- speaker-0: Hey, welcome in Average Home Theater. I am Nelson. speaker-1: Hey, what's up everybody? Producer Nick. speaker-0: And we are here to give you a great show of we have no idea what to talk about. speaker-1: Yeah. it's gonna be kinda like a catch up, but kinda just like a like a hangout. Yeah. There wa there was something that I wanted you to watch that you were too busy to watch. I'm just joking. speaker-0: Here's the thing. Whenever you're a major Hollywood ⁓ you you you have time for a little else. speaker-1: Filmmaker. ⁓ You have to focus on on the craft. You have to focus on the project. Yeah. Which has ⁓ speaker-0: So ⁓ my headspace has been like all of that, you know. speaker-1: Yeah. Which has been ⁓ so we you worked on it I mean, I guess production wise you worked on it a couple of nights. I unfortunately and very, very regrettably could not participate this past weekend but I was able to participate on the first night of ⁓ of shooting and that was that was a lot of fun. We had a we had a lot of fun with it and I saw some stills and some some some behind the scenes footage. From night two and that looked like a lot of fun. I was very, very disappointed that I had to miss it, but such is speaker-0: Go ahead and ⁓ I'm gonna go ahead and put some pictures from behind the scenes on top of this so folks can kind of see what we were doing. ⁓ if you haven't heard, I am making a movie called the Landry Incident, and that's all we'll say. But yeah, it's been a lot of fun. I've it's it's been way more fun than I thought. I was very nervous, but through this process, even though it's not easy and it's only gonna be about a thirteen minute at the most movie. ⁓ it's it's it's hard, but man, it's it's fun. Like I'm really enjoying it more than I thought I would. speaker-1: And I've seen I've been privileged to see some some rough cuts and some some trailers and all this other stuff and it's looking looking very good. Very impressive. Very impressed. speaker-0: So and that means a lot, but it's not the same, you know, because I know that even if it was crap, you wouldn't want to tell me, ⁓ man, it's terrible, right? speaker-1: I've no speaker-0: So I let my wife watch it. She and Jamie hadn't seen any anything about it, right? Other than the the original teaser trailer. speaker-1: Right. And she's couple. speaker-0: And she's coupons, she's scared of everything. So I let her watch the rough cut and it made her jump. ⁓ and she put her she put her hands. So I was like, yes. Now I know she's a little sensitive, but the fact that I got some type of reaction out of it makes me feel comfortable that people are engaged in what's going on. Whenever something happens, you know, it it has an effect. speaker-1: Really? You're on the right channel. speaker-0: So yeah that made me feel good. speaker-1: Yeah. So and i if I would've I would I don't think I would tell you that it's crap, but I've ha I've had some notes. I've given a couple of notes and suggestions and offered a couple of little changes and things. So but I mean it's it's it's coming together, man. The the stuff that you sent me ⁓ the other day was it's good stuff. I like speaker-0: And then that that's I've made progress since then. So it's it's only gotten better. speaker-1: I was I was just about to ask, ⁓ you still still shooting for a Octoberish release? Maybe soon. speaker-0: It's a little trickier than than that. If I want to submit to a film festival, then you cannot have had released it before the f it has to go in the festival circuit before any type of major release. So if I release it on YouTube or something like that, then I wouldn't be able to submit film festivals, right? So I have to make the decision if I want to do that or not. speaker-1: Disqualifying. Yeah. speaker-0: So if I don't want to do it then I can release it whenever, you know. speaker-1: Is there a kind of a deadline for that or is it just speaker-0: But yeah, each each there's literally hundreds of film festivals. Okay. And they all have a deadline to submit for the festival date. So the one that I was really interested in, the deadline is July thirty first and there's just no way I'm gonna speaker-1: Yeah. Yeah, it's it's a couple of weeks. speaker-0: And that festival is in November or December. So it looks like it's probably about a six month deadline prior to whenever. So if I want to go to the same festival, I'll have to wait until next year, I guess. We'll just see. I I we'll see. I didn't know all of this. Whatever I said, I would release it in in the fall, but we'll just have to see. speaker-1: Okay. Well, and that gives you more time to fine tune and maybe do some adding and yeah, it's not not necessarily a bad thing. speaker-0: I'll show it to a few people and see what they say. If it looks like I'm gonna embarrass myself at a film festival, then I'll just release it on YouTube. I embarrass myself enough here so it doesn't matter. speaker-1: I having seen what you have, I do not see that it would be an embarrassment on any level. Like I think it's I think it's pretty good. speaker-0: It's the sound design for the first half, for some reason the it was the audio was just crisp. speaker-1: Whoever was holding that boom mic for that first session that we did, who was it? ⁓ it was speaker-0: Me. It was producer Nick. speaker-1: You'd swear I was born with a boom mic in my hand. speaker-0: ⁓ by the way, if anybody's still listening, if you go on IMDb, we have a page, it's the Landry Incident. So you can see a few behind the scenes pictures there and get a little synopsis of what the movie's about. speaker-1: Yeah. So it's it has it has been ⁓ it's been exciting to be a part of it. It has been a lot of fun. So I think you do. speaker-0: If it's a success and people like it, then I'll consider maybe doing more. But ⁓ this one the way you know, I I know I've explained it before, but this was very rushed. I just decided to do this what? Not even two months ago. speaker-1: I think in like May. ⁓ you did the interview with the ⁓ with Film Squatch. Yeah, and that kind of was your inspirado. speaker-0: The film's quatre. Well that was I had already had an idea for a movie, which was this, but I didn't really have that push to it until I interviewed those guys and until Jamie Ray was being a smart ass when we were talking about directors and Jamie goes, Well, what's the last movie you ever directed, Nelson? And then it gave me the motivation. I was like, you know what? I'm I'm gonna direct a frickin' movie. And then after that nobody can ever say, ⁓ well, what movie have you ever directed? Because I have. I think that's enough about the Landry incident. What ⁓ what have you watched recently that you'd like to talk about? speaker-1: Well, recently, the worst thing I've watched recently is Revenge of the Sith. so my son Jacob, who has been on the show briefly before, he's never seen ⁓ the prequels, so I decided to bite the bullet and watch the prequels with him and I was not excited for the first two because they're hot steaming doo-doo garbage. I was kind of excited about Revenge of the Sith. It still is the best of the the three. But having watched it again, it it's just just not good. That's all I really wanted. The only time I want to devote of ⁓ on that. ⁓ the the best thing the best things I've watched lately. So I watched Project Hail Mary. It's on ⁓ yeah. It's on Prime and it was great. ⁓ Ryan Gosling is my new best friend. I've always kinda liked him. ⁓ but he was he was really good in this. It was it was funny without being overly like jokeful. You know, and when every other line is a joke. speaker-0: Without trying to be intentionally funny. speaker-1: Yeah, but this the this there w it was humorous. ⁓ the humor was well placed and it was it was a really good movie. if you've seen The Martian, which I believe you have, this is based on a book the guy wrote the same ⁓ he wrote The Martian, he wrote the Hail Mary Project. ⁓ it's a lot like that. It's science fiction, but it's very sciencey, like, man, this could maybe happen kind of thing. ⁓ don't want to give too much away or say too much about it other than I I really, really enjoyed it. ⁓ it's long, it's it's two and a half hours long about. maybe could have cut some stuff out, maybe to shorten the the the runtime, but it was it was really good. It it never got boring. ⁓ but at the same time like you kinda you kinda felt the length of it. ⁓ Yeah. But anyway, it was it was really good. Every everyone loved it. Everyone that saw it loved it. Got all kind of rave reviews. After watching it, I understand why. so that was that. And then I also watched ⁓ an older movie. It was the one that I that I suggested to you also was Eden Lake. ⁓ two thousand thirteen British speaker-0: I I dude I seriously I do want to watch that. speaker-1: Horror movie. It's it's good. so when I first it's got ⁓ Michael Fassbender's in it and Kelly Riley. Kelly Riley is ⁓ Beth, I think her name is Beth from Yellowstone. Yeah. The daughter. Crazy I really The Crazy Crazy One Who I really I really like her. she's fun to watch in speaker-0: The crazy dog. speaker-1: Television shows and movies. Actually, this is the only other thing I've ever seen her in. ⁓ it started off kinda like what is this gonna be? It started off kinda funny and you gotta get used to the accents and all that stuff. ⁓ it's basically this couple are going on a little a little weekend retreat to this place called Eden Lake, and some things happen. ⁓ it's ⁓ I've I've recently become a big giant fan of the horror comedies. Catch me if you can, the second catch me if you can, Abigail, those types of things. Ready ready or not, not catch me if you can. I'm sorry, ready or not. ⁓ well catch me in if you can is a second one, but yes, you're right, ready or not. this is not that. This is a straight up horror movie, and it just gets worse and worse. Not the movie gets worse and worse, but the the situation just gets worse and worse. And it was speaker-0: You mean ready or not? speaker-1: It was really good and again, I don't want to say too much for the people who haven't seen it. Th this one I don't want to give away spoilers. that would ruin the experience of watching the movie. Right. But it was ⁓ it was r I liked it more and more as it as it went on. It just very, very good. watch it as soon as you can. Okay. As soon as as soon as you have the mental ⁓ the mental power left. speaker-0: I should be able to watch it this weekend. Yeah. ⁓ I am shooting some stuff on Friday evening, but I gotta wait till it gets dark to sh so I I work, you know, half days on Friday, so I probably will have some time tomorrow afternoon to watch it. speaker-1: She Okay. Yeah, check it out. It's I I believe it's also on Prime. and I I heard about that's how I I learned about it actually. I was just browsing stuff to watch, trying to find something. I had never heard of it, didn't know it existed. ⁓ I I came across it, I saw like the the little icon, thumbnail, whatever on Prime. It's her. ⁓ so I Yeah. Right. So I immediately ⁓ it's her. speaker-0: Okay, so you had never heard of it? Like h she's like hiding on the side of a shed or something, yeah. It's pretty popular in the horror community and it's been on my list for quite some time. I've just never sat down and watched it. So now you've given me some motivation to go ahead and and give it a whirl. speaker-1: You're gonna you're gonna like that one. and then the only other thing, not a new movie but something new that I hadn't seen before. I watched this movie called The Messenger. ⁓ I found it on Tubi. It's something that I had heard of and wanted to see. Ben Foster. Ben Foster and Woody Harrelson, whom I love. Ben Foster plays. Now I would I would say that I want you to wa I do want you to watch this one, but I don't know if you will. This one's a hard one. ⁓ Ben Foster plays he's in the army, he gets injured and he's got PTSD and all this stuff, and he gets assigned to Woody Harrelson and their job is to notify next of kin of the soldiers who were who were KIA overseas. And it's it's rough. I watched it like like the whole speaker-0: I don't know man. I don't I don't do well with movies like that. speaker-1: I know, I know. it was great. I will never watch it again. Ben Foster is was Ben Foster. He was awesome. Woody Harrelson was fantastic. Steve Buscemi has a small part in it. He was great. And then Samantha Morton was also in it, who I really like. She was in the biggest thing I can remember, she was in ⁓ Minority Report. She was the pre the one that they that they rescued and took out of the whatever. she was in it and she was really good. ⁓ Jenna Malone had a had a part in it. Really, really good movie that I will probably never watch again. speaker-0: The movies that I've watched recently, ⁓ I'm just gonna run through a couple of ⁓ Michael. The Michael Jackson movie. ⁓ speaker-1: Yeah, we all went to the to the to the show to watch that. speaker-0: The my 4K copy just came in yesterday, so I redeemed the digital digital copy and Mia has already watched it like twice. But anyway, ⁓ very good movie. I wouldn't say like awesome and like you want to keep rewatching it, but very good. Acting and directing, phenomenal. It's directed by ⁓ what's his name? ⁓ Antoine Fug Fu the one that did The one with Denzel Washington, where he's the dirty cop. speaker-1: Trading day. speaker-0: Pretty sure that's who it is. That directed training day, like you said. speaker-1: Training Day. Okay. So which I've only seen training day once. I remember Yeah. speaker-0: Yeah, me too. Me too. But so the movie's great, right? Or are good. I don't want to say great. It's just very good. But the performance by the dad, the guy who played Joseph Jackson, if he is not at least nominated, it's a crime. He was phenomenal as Joseph Jackson. speaker-1: And from the little bit that I know about that story and the Jacks the family and all that stuff, like he was the reason for Yep. W for for better or for worse, he was the reason right. Yeah. speaker-0: success. His name is ⁓ Coleman Domingo, who is also in The Running Man, which he's the the host in the running man. speaker-1: I remember looking the cast up and and seeing that he was in something that I had seen but I I couldn't remember what it was. That's what it was, the running. speaker-0: Right. So phenomenal and Michael. Okay the movie is worth watching to watch him more than anything else. Jafar Jackson did great as Michael, but ⁓ and you learn a few things that I didn't know. speaker-1: J now Jafar Jackson is he related to speaker-0: He's like a nephew or something. Yes, he's ⁓ is it Jermaine's son? It's one of the one of the brothers' sons. But ⁓ he did he did excellent as Michael, but to me, Coleman Domingo stole the show as Joseph Jackson. He was he was great. Yeah. So but anyway, it's Michael Jackson movie, so there's nothing else to really say. But speaker-1: And isn't this one that you kinda got dragged to but you were pleasant? speaker-0: Yeah, I didn't really want to go watch it because I knew we'd end up owning it, but ⁓ I went anyways. Not too often Mia asked me to go watch a movie with her. So I did. And I and I enjoyed it. It was fun. So I watched The Running Man finally after saying I was going to boycott it because I was upset at the tone of the movie with the lots of action scenes and whatnot. So I was not interested in watching it because the book is not an an action story at all. speaker-1: Yeah, you it was it was billed as more like the book and then you could tell kind of from the previews that no, it wasn't some it's I think some I didn't read the book, but from what I could tell some aspects were but not not as advertised. speaker-0: Yeah, and the ending they they pull the rug under you where they look like they're going to do the ending that's in the novel and I was like, ⁓ cool. Yeah. But then nope. Takes these backseats and then the old switcheroo happens and they don't do what happens in the end of the book 'cause they had no balls. But anyway, so the movie gets a six out of ten from me because they had an opportunity to do the right thing. speaker-1: The old switcheroo. speaker-0: And they didn't. And I'm sure it it almost looked like there was some reshoots at the end for them to change their mind. And if when you watch the movie, you'll know what I'm talking about. I don't want to give away or you've seen it, right? You just don't know the ending to the nine. And I don't want people who haven't seen it. But what they you thought was gonna happen and what you thought happened to his family, that happens in the novel. Okay. And he goes through with what he was gonna do. speaker-1: Yeah, I've seen it. I don't know the ending of the book. I remember Yeah. Okay. Okay. speaker-0: before they go, ⁓ but is that really what happened? And then they rewind it and then the So I was pissed off that they didn't have the balls to do it. So ⁓ but I was on board for most of the movie until then. And then I was like speaker-1: I was I remember when ⁓ first of all I remember watching it thinking I did not like the beginning, I did not like the end, but I liked it I liked the middle. Like the middle was they had some good stuff, was a fun ride. But I speaker-0: I find it interesting that someone who can't aff barely afford he can barely afford food and can't afford medicine for his daughter, but he can afford ⁓ creatine, protein drinks, and a gym membership. It just doesn't make sense to see Glenn Powell swole and looking probably the best he's looking in his life, but he's supposed to be playing someone who can't afford medicine for his dying daughter. It just completely takes you out of it, man. Like, look, if y'all are gonna commit, do it. speaker-1: Yeah. Yeah. speaker-0: Do like Christian Bale in the Machinist and lose some weight. You don't have to look that bad, but look the part, man. You know. speaker-1: Maybe ⁓ maybe he was just a a big jerk and got all the stuff for himself but didn't really care too much. speaker-0: Can't give my daughter medicine, but I could let me get some vitamin S. speaker-1: You know? Yeah. And I but I remember I remember thinking you would not like it at all and when you after you watched it, I remember you like maybe texting me during like, Yeah, this isn't that bad. speaker-0: No, I so i i look. It is what it is. It's it's just you can't control Hollywood. They think they need explosions and yeah and and humor in everything. And that's what they do, so you know, whatever speaker-1: You know what? Why don't you try directing in your own movie th ⁓ wait. speaker-0: Yeah ⁓ wait, I have. speaker-1: ⁓ good stuff. Good times. speaker-0: And then ⁓ as far as what I've watched recently, the Return of the Living Dead trilogy. So there's Return of the Living Dead, then there's Return of the Living Dead part two, and then Part Three. I recently watched all three of them because the first one takes place, it's a 4th of July movie, right? Right. It takes place on July 3rd. And then ⁓ so I just went ahead and watched the others. And the first one is one of the best zombie movies ever made. ⁓ the second one, in my opinion, is just They almost try to do the same exact thing to a point where they have the same two main characters at the beginning, who both die in the first one, by the way. But they're back in completely different roles, but it's the same two actors playing on the same it's it's weird. I don't know why. It's almost like Evil Dead one and two. I'm not sure why they did it that way, but I I just didn't like it. I didn't think it was very good. It wasn't horrible, but it seemed like a to be movie, you know? Yeah. ⁓ and then the third one. speaker-1: Miracle. speaker-0: Which had the lowest budget, for some reason, was better than the second one. This movie looked like something that I could have filmed if I had some people who knew how to do makeup. But it was better to me than part two. speaker-1: Better than the second, not better than the first. speaker-0: ⁓ no no no I mean there's Return of the Living Dead is probably in my ranking the s second or third best zombie movie that I've ever seen. Of course, I've only seen a select few. So I can't claim like there's a lot of hardcore zombie people out there that'll probably just punch me in the face. But of course, this is a beloved movie. But and it is number one on a lot of people's lists. But I don't have the street cred, in my opinion, to really rank zombie movies because there's so many of them that I haven't seen. Yeah. Or I've only seen ⁓ once or twice. But this Return of the Living Dead, Day of the Dead, and Tom Savini's Night of the Living Dead are like my top three. Not in no particular order. speaker-1: The Tom Savini, that's the only one of those that I've seen, so I got I got no ⁓ skin in that game. I don't have a right to have an opinion on that. speaker-0: Yeah. Yeah. So okay. So I I'm gonna have to edit this and put it back to the front. I completely forgot to talk about obsession. Completely forgot to talk about it. We we started talking other stuff. Dude, that movie is awesome. You need to watch it. speaker-1: I accidentally saw a short I didn't know what it was. There was a little clip, a little YouTube short, and I accidentally watched it and I watched it like this. Which part? ⁓ but she was obviously emotionally ⁓ emotionally toying ⁓ with him. speaker-0: No, no, no. That part? speaker-1: Maybe, maybe. I I I'm serious. 'Cause you had said don't see anything about it and I saw it and when I realized what it was, I was like, Holy crap. So look then I immediately tried to forget what I saw. speaker-0: Don't go into it thinking this is like fatal attraction or something like that. This poor girl is not crazy. Okay? Something happens that makes her obsessed with him. There's a supernatural element, and through no fault of her own, she becomes obsessed with him. But holy crap, dude. I was so speaker-1: Yeah. Say no more. Say when is it a coming soon? speaker-0: Yeah, check my Amazon deliveries. speaker-1: So that's kinda how I was with Eden Lake. Mm-hmm. So I'm wondering if it's like the same the same sport, different ball pork, but maybe ⁓ maybe a the same sport. 'Cause that's how kinda how I was with Eden Lake. Like it's just very, very unsettling. speaker-0: So it says July twenty eighth to August second is whenever it's coming in. So as soon as it comes in speaker-1: Okay. Is this something I just need to pre order? Is this something I just need to get? Maybe speaker-0: Know how much if it's gonna be worth a buy for you. speaker-1: Okay. Okay. That's good. I can I can watch it and determine after speaker-0: And look, I don't know how often I'm gonna rewatch it. It's just it was just so good and the fact that this director did a YouTube movie or a couple of movies or whatever and then gets his shot and makes one of the highest grossing horror films of all time. Right. I have to support the dude. speaker-1: Yeah, didn't you say they they spent like seven hundred fifty thousand dollars? speaker-0: $750,000 is the guess of the budget, and it made over four hundred and like fifty million. Like that's insane, dude. Yeah. So he has been hired to do the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre. speaker-1: Yeah. Pretty good investment. New was in reboot or new as in sequel? speaker-0: No, they're I from what I understand it's a reboot. It's a it's a another reboot of it. Another imagining, you know. speaker-1: Okay. Damn. speaker-0: So yeah, I'm going to ⁓ so you f you people are gonna see this out of order 'cause I'm gonna speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: This portion right here we actually was at the end of the conversation I had to put in the front. speaker-1: The the way the way that you speak about this movie makes me excited to watch it. speaker-0: Just on a just you know, going into it knowing how it was low budget, what they were able to accomplish, the point that he got across, his cinematography and all of that on a seven hundred and fifty thousand dollar budget to me is just like that it's almost like I play Rocky, right? Like how Sly got to make Rocky, this guy got to do this at you know, twenty-five years old or whatever. And then backrooms I haven't watched it yet, but it's almost the same type of deal. That kid is only twenty years old. speaker-1: So Jacob went to watch backrooms at the movie and talked about how how good it was. And the when you were describing it the other day and talking about a YouTube guy, whatever, that's what I thought you were talking about. Backrooms. Or maybe it might have been someone else that was talking about it. It was like, Yeah, it's the the YouTube guy. But so it's it's both of them. It's same, similar, okay. Yeah, I know. Jacob ⁓ Jacob went to see it and then af immediately after said he wanted me to take him to see it again. So ⁓ we'll have to I'll have to check both of those out. I'm I'm excited about obsession though. speaker-0: But now I want to talk about what are you looking forward to? So you know let me let me let me set you up. Let me give you a look, look, look. A little a little so I'll toss I'll toss you a little a little lob, okay? speaker-1: Yeah, it tossed me a little softball. I hope I hope it's the one thing that I'm looking forward to. Okay. speaker-0: No, it's not. How how are you looking forward to the Odyssey? speaker-1: I don't wanna see it. ⁓ people that have seen it say it's great, but I'm just I just I just don't know. It looks ⁓ what you said earlier about everyone just wants explosions and stuff, it seems like it's just gonna be a little over the top. It might be great. I don't know. I'm I'm not gonna and this this may be very, very wrong, but I don't think I'm gonna go pay to see it. I'll watch it. Eventually but speaker-0: Look, you and I learned our lesson with him. ⁓ what's his name? ⁓ Christopher Nolan with Oppenheimer. I thought it was gonna be just this awesome movie, and it was very disappointing. On a technical level, all of his movies are awesome. Yeah. On a technical level to a point, I don't like his quick edits, and we know that his quick his he does a lot of quick cuts and he he shrinks ⁓ conversations to a point they don't look natural. And I don't like that, including the Dark Knight people. Watch the Dark Knight and just don't think about Heath Ledger, okay, because that's what everybody wants to go to. Just look at the technical aspect of the Dark Knight and the editing, not how he shoots the movie and the IMAX cameras and all of that. His editing is just it drives me bananas. speaker-1: That's something that we agree on. I think the Dark Knight just in general is overrated. Batman Begins is much better. ⁓ Yeah. speaker-0: Correct. It's a still a great movie. And and that's something else. People love to tear apart the term overrated. It's like would they think you're saying a movie's bad or something is bad when you say it's overrated. No, I'm saying it's overrated. I'm saying I don't believe it's as good as most people say it is. If most people think it's a ten, I think it's more like a seven. speaker-1: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I agree. I agree. On on out of those three movies movies, the the first one is definitely yeah, I I just I'm just not when I first heard about the Odyssey, I like that period of history. ⁓ I like the the Greek mythology and all that and I love Troy. that that subject matter is interesting to me, but I speaker-0: ⁓ Batman begins the best. Yeah. speaker-1: Can't put my finger on why I'm just not super excited about this one. There's some there's some choices. There's some choices casting choices that I've speaker-0: That I'm some casting choices that you can say what you want. You know the casting choices are dumb. Okay. ⁓ people that are defending it are only defending it for just because they defend everything and they l just love everything. ⁓ but the casting choices are bad for a couple of them and speaker-1: Very very, very curious, yeah. And and we think we think we know why some of those choices were made. speaker-0: Well, look, you wanna win an Oscar, you gotta be diverse. You have to have X amount of minorities, you gotta have X amount of females, you gotta have blah blah. And he did, in my opinion, he's chasing an Oscar. Yeah. Because there is no reason for those casting choices. No none. speaker-1: Does he have I think he has Oscars for writing, but I don't think he has a best picture Oscar, is that right? Mm. speaker-0: Did Oppenheimer get nominated or something? speaker-1: Oppenheimer would have been the one, huh? Maybe Oppenheimer did win. speaker-0: Or it was nominated, but he's chasing an Oscar because that it just doesn't make sense. And now on a technical level, I'll get back to that. I guarantee you it's gonna be something to see. speaker-1: Yeah, it's it's no doubt. No doubt a spectacle. Right. speaker-0: I'm sure the acting is probably going to be top notch for the most part. Yeah. it's just some things are gonna look out of place. It's gonna look stupid. speaker-1: People are and people are complaining about the costumes and that's not, you know, accurate for the period and that just goes that just goes to the bigger, better, more explosions, you know. It's gotta be it's gotta be, you know, visually stunning and all that other stuff, which I feel like he could a we're also talking about I mean, this is what, seventeen hundred BC or whatever, so who really knows? speaker-0: I've never read The Odyssey. I've never seen any adaptations or anything of it. I know nothing about it. speaker-1: Yeah. I I read it. I read The Odyssey and The Iliad in high school. and I remember now that was a long time ago, but I remember really, really liking it. The Cyclops and the Sirens and the and all this other stuff. I was really into that and I liked that kind of movie. I just I I'm just not I don't know. Maybe way off base. Look, we didn't want to go see Masters of the Universe and we went see Masters of the Universe and we loved speaker-0: The difference is though, I really thought Masters of the Universe was going to be a bad movie. I don't think this is going to be a bad movie. I just think we're going to eye roll a couple of times. And when you know the reason why decisions were made, it it it pisses you off, quite frankly, because that was not an artistic choice. I know for there is no way Christopher Nolan is too smart of a person to honestly believe that those were the best choices. speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: And that's what he had in mind for this. No, it was people in his ear saying, If you want to win an Oscar, you're gonna have to do something like this. And that's what he's doing. speaker-1: Yeah. I I tend to agree with that. I think that's probably ⁓ speaker-0: I can't prove any of this, people, so before you start the comments. speaker-1: It's all just opinion and conjecture. speaker-0: Correct. This is just what we believe and we may be totally off base. And when we watch the movie, we will come back on this show and we will eat crow. If we're wrong. If we watch the movie and it's awesome and we were totally off base, but it's still not gonna change the fact of a couple of things are just historically inaccurate. But speaker-1: Yeah. I think it's gonna be one of those where it depends on what mindset we go into it with. Yeah. ⁓ for for me anyway, 'cause I'll do that a lot. I'll go in thinking I'm gonna see one thing and then it's something different, and I don't really like it at first, but then I'll watch it again. Always go back to history of violence. I didn't like that the first time I watched it because I was expecting an action movie. It's not that, but it's awesome. ⁓ so i I think it might just depend on on the mindset going into it. I don't know. Okay. speaker-0: Okay, well, I just wanted to, you know, get us get a little controversy going, you know, because I'm sure there's a lot of people who are like, ⁓ yeah, yeah, just y'all they'll say we're bigots or whatever they'll they'll want to say, but also Roland is white. ⁓ Roland of the Shane is white. Yeah, gunslinger's white. And when you change him to a black character, you completely change everything about the story because then he cannot have that love hate relationship with another character who's black yeah and doesn't like him because he's white and then they're they they grow to love each other as like brother and sister. So you cannot just change character races and genders willy-nilly and not expect backlash. Yeah. Period. Idris Elba's a fine actor. He's great. But he's not Roland. speaker-1: And you're referring to the Dark Tower, which definitely will not be watching ever. ⁓ you did? Okay. I didn't realize you had watched it. speaker-0: ⁓ no, I did watch it. No, we talked about it on one of the other episodes. It was a horrible piece of crap. It was terrible. So setting a speaker-1: Okay. I forgot you had I forgot the that you pulled the trigger on that. speaker-0: Setting aside the poor ⁓ casting choice, the movie sucked. Right. As well. So it was both. But anyway, so speaker-1: Okay. Something that I am looking forward to as you take a a pugilist stance. ⁓ definitely looking forward to I Am Rocky. Saw the trailer for that what yesterday, day before yesterday. ⁓ it looks like it's gonna be good. speaker-0: So did you know it was they were they were doing something like this? 'Cause I did. I just kinda forgot about it. speaker-1: Same. I remember months and months back seeing something online about they were recording someone was recreating and filming the the run up the steps in Philadelphia. ⁓ when he you know had and he I remember seeing something about that. speaker-0: And running down the street where they were throwing apples at him or whatever. speaker-1: And this is apparently what that was for. ⁓ so I watched the trailer. I would have sworn to you that that was that ⁓ was Jeremy Allen White, the guy playing the Sylvester Stallone. It's not him. I looked at the cast list, it's not him. I thought it was him. ⁓ speaker-0: It's some kid who's done he's got a few acting credits, but he doesn't have a whole lot. He's relatively new. speaker-1: Yeah. I I I think it's gonna be pretty awesome. November? Is that come out in November? Yeah. That'll be a that'll be a a movie a movies movie. We'll go see that. speaker-0: November, yep. I watched the trailer with my wife and she was like crying watching it. Of course. And I started doing a little speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: Because you know, I love Rocky. You know that. I mean I for years I was after you to watch the movies, right? 'Cause you had seen like a few of ⁓ or maybe you only saw part four. speaker-1: Mm-hmm. I had only seen I had only seen like the fifth one. which is the worst one. And yeah, you had gotten me into ⁓ and I I ended up I got the collection somewhere which ⁓ now I'm gonna be re watching soon. ⁓ but yeah, I I watched them and and really enjoyed ⁓ The first speaker-0: Yeah. Which is the worst one. One is just a great movie. Then the second one is still a great movie, but he started to because ⁓ slide directed the second one, so it you know, a little bit of a Hollywood twist. Then by part three, it's just like, let's just have fun and go crazy. You know, three and four are just like why and they're so much fun to watch. But the the first one is just a great movie, and I mean it won Best Picture for a reason, you know. speaker-1: Yeah. You can you can kinda feel that one better than the speaker-0: Think about the first script he ever wrote in his life. Yeah, he wins an Oscar. That's wild, dude. speaker-1: And I and I really hope that the movie is true to life. It's not Hollywooded up. I hope it's the actual story as accurate as it can be. Now That was I was just about I was just about to ask that. Is he did he have any kind of consulting or did he help write it or anything like that? speaker-0: Not saying he didn't, but according to IMDB, his name is nowhere in there. So I don't know. I yeah I find it hard to believe that he didn't, but his name is nowhere in there. And the it's directed by Peter Fairley. speaker-1: Some nuts. The Fairley brothers? Yes. Like me, myself and Irene? Yes. Why? speaker-0: Peter Fairley is the director and the writer is ⁓ some unknown guy. He's only written a few things. So but it looks ⁓ how awesome would it be for them to to win some type of Oscar based on a movie of this subject matter about him about Sly winning an Oscar for speaker-1: Okay. Yeah. Yeah. And because that's crazy. I mean that's what it's about. It's not a life story. It's about him writing that movie and getting it made. Right. Yeah. Yeah. When he was no one. Yeah, not taking no for an answer kind of thing. Yeah, it's ⁓ I I've I've watched the trailer a couple of times and I kinda want to leave it at that and just wait for it to come up because I like speaker-0: It's about him. Correct. He was no one. Like I don't wanna see any more trailers. That's a trailer enough for me. Yeah. Let's watch it and see. speaker-1: Yeah. Yeah. So other than that, that's really the only thing that I know of. ⁓ un speaker-0: Okay, well how about this? My last thing. How about ⁓ did you watch the trailer for Crystal Lake? speaker-1: ⁓ yeah. Yeah yeah. That's right. That's right. We did share that with each other. yeah. That looks that looks like it'll be pretty interesting. A little prequel story, origin story. speaker-0: Yeah. Look, I I would be skeptical, but the reason why I'm hopeful is because of the success of Bates Motel. Bates Motel was a good show. Now it was a little different. They did a it was like a prequel, right? But it was set in present day. So it was like resetting the timeline of ⁓ what's his name? ⁓ Norman Bates. speaker-1: Norman Bates. It's Norman Bates. speaker-0: So it it's a contemporary reboot type thing. I thought maybe that's what they were going to do with this, but it doesn't look like it. It takes place in fifty speaker-1: I didn't realize it was that that early. I thought it was like in the seventies or eighties. speaker-0: No no, ⁓ the first movie was filmed in nineteen eighty, but it had been but he drowned in Crystal Lake when he was eleven. He died when he was eleven. So he died in nineteen fifty five, but she had been basically kind of I guess terrorizing since then. But speaker-1: Okay. speaker-0: Yeah, he his his birthday is July thirteenth, nineteen forty six. That's his birthday. speaker-1: That was was that a Friday? ⁓ speaker-0: ⁓ what's it So yeah. I'm I'm looking forward to it and your girl is in it. speaker-1: Linda Lini. speaker-0: It was ⁓ what Velma? speaker-1: She was Velma. She was in Legally Blonde, which I'm not ashamed to admit I enjoy Legally Blonde. And she was in ⁓ another maybe considered a a girl show, whatever, but ⁓ Dead to Me on Netflix. She was I liked her in that too. She was really good in that. speaker-0: I don't mind it. Yeah, she was in a show with Ray Romano. He did a show on Netflix like two years ago. And she was in that and she was actually really good. Okay. Well, I think that's it. You have anything else? I mean, we've rambled on for almost an hour. speaker-1: We've bone we've been going an hour. speaker-0: I have directed a movie so I can talk about movies. speaker-1: You can you c yeah, I mean you can speak from experience director Nelson. speaker-0: All right, man. Well, with that, like, subscribe, tell your friends, and we will catch you on the next one. speaker-1: See ya.
