Speaker 1: Hey, what's up, everybody? Welcome into another edition of the
• 0:12
Speaker 1: check O Daily. Andrew deiceco here, Eagles beat reporter for
• 0:16
  Speaker 1: Insidethbirds dot Com.
• 0:17
Speaker 2: Be sure to check out.
• 0:19
Speaker 1: The latest WBCB Pro Football Reports show. It was myself
• 0:24
Speaker 1: I hosted it and I was joined by Eagles on
• 0:27
Speaker 1: Sports Illustrated's Ed Kratz, who's been covering the Eagles for
• 0:31
Speaker 1: quite some time, fellow beat reporter.
• 0:33
  Speaker 2: Great conversation there.
• 0:35
Speaker 1: Ed is someone who I've gotten to know quite a
• 0:37
Speaker 1: bit over the past couple of years, and typically somebody
• 0:40
Speaker 1: that when we're on the road, the Eagles are on
• 0:42
Speaker 1: the road, we like to get together and grab dinner,
• 0:45
Speaker 1: and just a great guy with a lot of really
• 0:47
Speaker 1: good stories and perspective. And it's a good show, So
• 0:50
Speaker 1: be sure to check that one out. So the Eagles
• 0:53
Speaker 1: kick off their week Wednesday. The coordinator spoke on Tuesday,
• 0:57
Speaker 1: Vic Vangio, Michael Clay, and Kevin Patulo. Vic Vangeo today
• 1:01
Speaker 1: mentioned that he expects linebacker Nikobe Dean to play Sunday,
• 1:05
Speaker 1: So that's going to be a huge boost to an
• 1:07
Speaker 1: Eagles defense that's really rounded into form over the past month,
• 1:12
Speaker 1: and maybe even more than that, and I think that
• 1:15
Speaker 1: they're going to have a really good opportunity to get
• 1:17
Speaker 1: after a forty nine ers offense, especially with the Kobe Dean,
• 1:21
Speaker 1: because let's not forget their offense runs through Christian McCaffrey.
• 1:24
Speaker 1: They're doing it all running back, catches a ton of passes,
• 1:27
Speaker 1: really good running the football as well, obviously one of
• 1:31
Speaker 1: the better backs in the league. And so having someone
• 1:33
Speaker 1: like the Kobe Dean, who of course is a depth
• 1:35
Speaker 1: at playing the run and just experience, he knows how
• 1:39
Speaker 1: to play the position. I think when you look at
• 1:41
Speaker 1: Christian McCaffrey in space, someone like Nikobe Dean alongside Zach Bond,
• 1:46
Speaker 1: they are going to be able to handle that well.
• 1:48
Speaker 2: And won't be caught off guard.
• 1:49
Speaker 1: The moment won't be too big for them, and I
• 1:51
Speaker 1: think that's going to be huge when you look at
• 1:53
Speaker 1: what McCaffrey means to that offense, and Nikobe Dean is
• 1:57
Speaker 1: just such a tone setter, I've said it so many times,
• 2:01
Speaker 1: just a natural born leader and somebody who I believe
• 2:04
Speaker 1: just radiates energy and swagger.
• 2:07
Speaker 2: Throughout the whole defense. So that will be a welcome addition.
• 2:10
Speaker 1: They also are expected to have Lane Johnson back on
• 2:12
Speaker 1: the practice field Wednesday, so two huge additions. Will also
• 2:17
Speaker 1: be keeping an eye on the attendance of tight end
• 2:21
Speaker 1: Dallas Goddard who missed Sunday's game with a knee, Jayalen
• 2:25
Speaker 1: Carter who missed the game with a hip injury, safety
• 2:28
Speaker 1: Marcus EPs who missed with a concussion, and Jayalen Phillips
• 2:33
Speaker 1: who missed the game with an ankle injury. So those
• 2:35
Speaker 1: will be some of the names that I'll be keeping
• 2:37
Speaker 1: an eye on going into Wednesday's practice. It's slated for
• 2:42
Speaker 1: I believe two o'clockish, and we will certainly be taking
• 2:46
Speaker 1: attendance as to the statuses of those respective players.
• 2:51
Speaker 2: And the forty nine ers are really banged up.
• 2:53
Speaker 1: They lost their linebacker Tatum Bethune for the season. Of course,
• 2:57
Speaker 1: fred Fred Warner there, they're all pro linebacker. The best
• 3:05
Speaker 1: off ball linebacker in football is on injured reserve. De
• 3:08
Speaker 1: Winters and other linebackers hurt. Luke Gifford, he's also banged up.
• 3:13
Speaker 1: And they just signed Kaizer White, former Eagles linebacker Kaiser White,
• 3:17
Speaker 1: and they have Eric Kendricks who they brought in. So
• 3:20
Speaker 1: it's a patchwork linebacker situation for the forty nine ers.
• 3:23
Speaker 1: Kind of reminds me a little bit of the Chicago
• 3:26
Speaker 1: Bear situation. When the Eagles played them on Black Friday,
• 3:29
Speaker 1: they were down to their fourth or fifth linebackers, if
• 3:33
Speaker 1: I remember this correctly. The Eagles weren't able to really
• 3:36
Speaker 1: take advantage of that. But maybe this time they're able
• 3:40
Speaker 1: to get some things going over the middle. With Dallas
• 3:42
Speaker 1: Goddard again, we're gonna have to wait and see about
• 3:44
Speaker 1: his injury status, maybe they're able to take advantage in
• 3:48
Speaker 1: the run game and try to get things going there.
• 3:51
Speaker 1: I think a week of rest, especially for that offensive
• 3:54
Speaker 1: line that has been really banged up all season, is
• 3:57
Speaker 1: going to serve them well. And I'm expecting to see
• 3:59
Speaker 1: an offense that's going to unveil or make a much
• 4:03
Speaker 1: more conscious effort to run the football with Saquon Barkley
• 4:07
Speaker 1: and get behind that offensive line. I'm curious to see
• 4:10
Speaker 1: if they look a little bit more spry this week,
• 4:13
Speaker 1: having a week off, a built in by week, and
• 4:15
Speaker 1: maybe they're even able to get Tank Bigsby into the mix,
• 4:17
Speaker 1: because that's something that I have noticed over the past
• 4:23
Speaker 1: month or so that when Tank Bigsby's in the game,
• 4:26
Speaker 1: he runs with what I call desperation like he will
• 4:30
Speaker 1: not and cannot take a loss and has the juice,
• 4:34
  Speaker 1: an explosiveness.
• 4:34
Speaker 2: Kind of creates his own holes.
• 4:36
Speaker 1: An unorthodox runner, but he brings juice and he compliments
• 4:40
Speaker 1: Saquon Barkley ideally in my opinion. And I'm curious to
• 4:45
Speaker 1: see if the Eagles are able to find four to
• 4:48
Speaker 1: six carries to get him into the mix, because I
• 4:51
Speaker 1: think he does present it a different type of runner
• 4:54
Speaker 1: that the defense will have to account for. And I
• 4:56
Speaker 1: look at the forty nine ers defense and they are
• 4:59
Speaker 1: probably the most underwhelming group based off of the sample
• 5:03
Speaker 1: size that we have to go off of, which is
• 5:05
Speaker 1: pretty significant in the playoff field, the NFC playoff field.
• 5:09
Speaker 1: And I like their secondary because there are a lot
• 5:15
Speaker 1: of younger players that I liked in the drafts, such
• 5:17
Speaker 1: as Malik Mustafa, one of their safeties who flies around.
• 5:20
Speaker 1: He's a pretty good hitter, Jaiir Brown from Penn State.
• 5:23
Speaker 1: The two safeties I do like, the Amador leonor one
• 5:26
Speaker 1: of their corners is a feisty, competitive type of player
• 5:29
Speaker 1: who I think is really gonna get after it. Though
• 5:32
Speaker 1: I like aj Brown all day long in that matchup.
• 5:34
Speaker 1: And then they have an interesting nickel defender in Upton Stout,
• 5:38
Speaker 1: who is a smaller guy about five foot eight, but
• 5:41
Speaker 1: he is instinctive, he's sticky in coverage and he's willing
• 5:45
Speaker 1: to lay a hat in there and mix it up
• 5:47
Speaker 1: as a tackler. So their secondary is okay. They don't
• 5:50
Speaker 1: allow a ton over their heads. But there will be
• 5:53
Speaker 1: some moments in this game that I believe and the
• 5:56
Speaker 1: tape reflects it, that there should be opportunities for SHO.
• 6:00
Speaker 1: But I look at this matchup in particular, and you
• 6:03
Speaker 1: would like to see the Eagles and Kevin Patulo find
• 6:06
Speaker 1: a way to get Jalen Hurts into a rhythm passing
• 6:09
Speaker 1: the football, short completions, dump offs to God, or maybe
• 6:13
Speaker 1: get Aj Brown going.
• 6:15
Speaker 2: On those bang eight routes.
• 6:16
Speaker 1: And I think when you're an offense and you have
• 6:18
Speaker 1: a lot of three and outs, especially in the postseason,
• 6:21
Speaker 1: that could lead to a little bit more pressure you
• 6:24
Speaker 1: don't want to have that. I think the best way
• 6:25
Speaker 1: to combat that would be to getting the ball out
• 6:28
Speaker 1: of Jalen's hands quickly, get some easy completions.
• 6:30
Speaker 2: And build off of that, but also running the football.
• 6:33
Speaker 1: And I think Saquon Barkley is primed for a big postseason.
• 6:38
Speaker 1: The evidence this season wouldn't suggest that, but I just
• 6:42
Speaker 1: get the sense that the Eagles stars are going to
• 6:45
Speaker 1: play like stars under the bright lights of the NFL postseason,
• 6:48
Speaker 1: and I can't wait to cover this week. I'm glad
• 6:50
Speaker 1: the game's on Sunday. That means more time for coverage.
• 6:53
Speaker 1: Their week won't be truncated, and it's business as usual. Wednesday, practice, Thursday, practice, practice,
• 7:00
Speaker 1: locker room, all of those days and the ordinary availability.
• 7:04

Speaker 1: You have Bears Packers the night before, so we get
• 10:38
Speaker 1: the chance to see how that game plays out.
• 10:40
Speaker 2: I love Wildcard weekend.
• 10:41
Speaker 1: That might be my favorite weekend of the playoffs because
• 10:44
Speaker 1: there's a lot of games, for one, but they tend
• 10:47
Speaker 1: to go different ways. And you look at a team
• 10:49
Speaker 1: like the Panthers going against the Rams. You think the
• 10:51
Speaker 1: Panthers have no shot, and that's probably correct, but you
• 10:55
Speaker 1: just never know the Packers and the Bears, and just
• 10:58
Speaker 1: seeing how all the pieces fall and the domino effect
• 11:02
Speaker 1: it could be on the horizon is something that I
• 11:04
Speaker 1: most enjoy about Wildcard weekend, but we'll have plenty of
• 11:08
Speaker 1: time to get into all of that throughout the week
• 11:10
Speaker 1: on Inside the Birds, on the Checkodaily, and on Inside
• 11:13
Speaker 1: the Birds dot com, So make sure you're staying plugged
• 11:16

Speaker 1: to sharing that with you.
• 11:22
Speaker 2: But for now, that's going to do it for this
• 11:23
Speaker 2: edition of The Checho Daily.
• 11:25
Speaker 1: I am Andrew Decheco, and I'll catch you all on
• 11:27
  Speaker 1: the next one.
