- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Hello, friends, and welcome to episode 46 of the Friends on Football Podcast.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: I'm one of your co-hosts, Brandon Johnson.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: And join with me as always is my other co-host.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: I'm also I'm gonna change his nickname.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna give you a new nickname tonight.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: Sean Boyle, as you all know.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna call him the predictor.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: The predictor, Sean Boyle, is with me.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: This man is on fire, absolute fire with his predictions.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Sean, how are you doing?
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: Brandon, I'm doing well, and I do appreciate the nickname.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: I have to say, I don't think I did that great overall with my predictions, but my best bets are I mean, I just can't miss.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: It's just, I'm just seeing the field really well.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: Kind of like a creative, a luxury player, like a creative midfielder.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: I just see the whole game.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: I keep it flowing.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: Tiki tack a one touch, two touch.
- 1:05SPEAKER_01: We're on.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: That's kind of how I'm seeing the board.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: I hope to keep it continuing for the listeners.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: I am a little bit disappointed with the rest of my performance, but I'm excited to talk about this weekend's action because boy, there was a lot of it.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, a lot of action, Sean.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: And yeah, we're all I'm only judging you on the best bet.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: But the other bets, that's that's just free play.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: If those hit, they hit.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: If not, nah, no big deal.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: But yeah, your your best bets have been hit.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: And Sean, before we get into the Premier League results, uh, we'll continue our number journey here.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: And for this one, number 46, we have a little bit of a different story.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: Uh, so I went to the women's game this episode, and I picked Lindsay Haran or Lindsay Heaps now.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: She's now married.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Uh, she wore the number 46 while she was playing for PSG.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Uh, she actually played for PSG for four years right out of high school from 2012 to 2016.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: And I highlight that because it's pretty uncommon for a women's soccer player to skip college.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: Nowadays, it's a little bit more common, but there really wasn't an academy system in most teams back in 2012.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: So a pretty big leap of faith from her to go straight to PSG after graduating high school.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: She actually ended up with 46 goals in 58 appearances for PSG, uh, which is pretty solid numbers.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: And she was playing a little bit higher up on the pitch.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: Uh, she now plays more of a central midfield role.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: I think she was playing more of like a center attacking mid, almost like a second striker.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: But pretty cool stuff.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: Also funny how she ended up with 46 goals at the end of her PSG career.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: But 46 goals in 58 games.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: I mean, we'll take that.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: It's damn good.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: That's a damn good return.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: I like you taking a little bit of a shift there to the women's game.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: That's appreciated, Brandon.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: I've always liked Lindsay, the personality.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: She was frustrating for me sometimes in the US camps.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: Sometimes I get a little bit frustrated by her play.
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: But I will say, when she plays deeper, I do appreciate her game even more.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: So I'm with you on that.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: I also think an interesting idea, too.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: If you ever get hurt for numbers and you can't figure something out, you could take it in the direction of goals or something.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: That's a decent idea you might have just stumbled upon.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: So as we as we work our way, it could just be a key number journey.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: I like that.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: I like the idea, like a little bit of flexibility.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: But uh it was funny when I was doing research, I saw a couple other guys and I was like, eh, nothing crazy.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: And I actually, it's funny, I stumbled upon an article written by it was like a Penn State student for Thon.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: So the big cancer fundraising.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure, and I do apologize what the number 46 means to Thon, but it isn't a very important number, and they encourage people that are attending Thon to wear jerseys that are number 46.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: So there was a list of all different players NBA players, football players, baseball players.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: And she was actually on the list.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: And I was like, wow, that's really cool.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: So then ended up doing some research that way.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: So a little bit of a long cut to get to the end, but sometimes you gotta dig into the archives, Sean.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: And I'm gonna dig into the archives for this niche joke here.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: Than is the only good thing that comes out of Penn State.
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: So we appreciate their work on Thon.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: Everything else you you could keep.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna guess 46.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: Is that the number of hours it goes on?
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: I know it's a multiple weekend, so maybe it's 46 hours.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: That's true.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: Either way, keep it up with Thon, and we're gonna that'll be it for Penn State talk here.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's the end of the Penn State conversation.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: But yes, it's probably 46 hours.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: That's a great shout from you.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: Sean, let's get into the football now.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: We had 10 games, a lot of football, a lot of results.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: Starting off with the Friday game, Sean, this was my best bet.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: It did not hit, so I am now one and two on my best bets.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: Not looking hot.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: Ipswich Town, Nottingham Forest, 1-1 draw.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: What did you see from this game from these two teams?
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was kind of a stinker, Brandon.
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: We we teased that yes, we got some football on Friday evening, and it also might not be the best football.
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: It was indeed not the best to watch.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: Nico Williams scored for Forrest, that was good to see.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: Plays as a left wing back.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: Sometimes he's right footed, but he plays as a left wing back usually.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: And he he takes his goal well, but then an error from the Forest back line leads to the NCSO goal for Ipswich.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: I don't think you were too far off in taking this as your best bet.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: It was a difficult week to try to pinpoint which which game to take.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: This game just reeked of a draw once you saw the ball kicked.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: I was on Forest in this one, and then instantly I was like, this is gonna end either 0-0 or 1-1.
- 5:19SPEAKER_01: It was just back and forth, kind of sloppy the whole time.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: And I've come up with a new nickname, Brandon.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: You know, I give this guy a lot of guff each week.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: I have nicknamed Liam De Lap.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: Liam DeLump.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: He is an absolute lump.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: That's all he is.
- 5:36SPEAKER_01: Liam DeLump moving forward on this very channel.
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: I like that.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: Also, Sean, I should have prefaced this before we talked about the Ape Switch game.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: Was this the first weekend where wind was discovered in England?
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: Because the way the announcers talked about the wind and how windy it was, you would have thought they never played outdoors before.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: And rain, Brandon.
- 5:55SPEAKER_01: Gary Neville in Manchester United.
- 5:57SPEAKER_01: I was listening to a bit of the sky commentary for this match because I was just I was just rolling around as Man United were getting battered, which we'll get to.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: But Gary Neville was like, well, he slipped because it was raining.
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: It's raining for both teams, Gary.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: It's raining everywhere.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: What are we doing?
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, you're right.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: The element certainly played a factor, and teams were not prepared.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: No, not at all.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: But yeah, it that game, the Forest Ipswich game, yeah, not fun football, but Forrest probably maybe even was a little bit disappointed to not get all three points.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: Giving up a goal on a mistake, and I really think they were on the front foot for most of the game, uh, which was definitely not what I predicted.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: But glad to see Forrest maybe starting to turn the screws a bit, still have issues in the final third, which we know, and it's probably gonna haunt them until January when they can make it make it.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: As long as the lump's up top, it's not looking good.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: So I agree with you on that front.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: Forrest, yeah, that it's just a sloppy goal to concede, which is unlike what I thought we'd see from them this year.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: I thought they'd be very tight, like a bank vault.
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: And they've kind of been anything but recently.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: So I do think this is a step in the right direction.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: It was just really one moment that cost them.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: So moving forward, there's definitely some positives to take for them.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: It's just you really want to start getting three points as opposed to losing and drawing, especially against teams that don't project to be very good this season.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: Yep, absolutely.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: Moving into the next game, Saturday morning, Aston Villa beating Manchester City at home two to one.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: This one, Sean, it's funny.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: I was at a wedding on Saturday, but Saturday morning I was like, let me go get a workout in.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: So I went to the gym, I was on the treadmill, I had this game streaming, and Nicholas Jackson, man, this guy, I mean, prime, prime baller.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, oh my god.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: I I I wanted Spurs to sign him this summer.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: They they stuck their nose up at him.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: He's a really good player, and he's been a frustrating player in the past at Chelsea and at Bayern with some of the chances that he doesn't convert.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: But I always kind of felt like his technique's good and he puts himself in the right position so many times that eventually he's going to start scoring some more of those.
- 8:12SPEAKER_01: But even if you take the goals out of it, just what he does in terms of running in behind and holdup play, he transforms this Villa side.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: I think he's far better than what they were getting last year at this position.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: I think we're really starting to see Villa settle in and take those strides with this new look roster under Unay Emery.
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: And I think it's an exciting time to be a Villa fan, honestly.
- 8:32SPEAKER_01: They're really rounding into form.
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: They've played well in the Champions League, which we talked about last week.
- 8:37SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of positivity in the villa camp right now, and that led me to believe that they would give City a game this weekend.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: I thought it was going to be a close one in the draw.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: I did not see them getting the win here in all three points.
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: So it certainly a hiccup for City, but I think the real story is just how good Aston Villa were.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, agreed.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: They really showed no fear.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: They went right after it.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: And even when they were up 2-1, you worry that City's gonna start to develop, start to get into the game more and more and get a lot of chances, and they really didn't have that.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: Early Holland does score.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: I we talk about how he scores every week and he does it again, but it's just incredible to me how he doesn't touch the ball in the game, hardly at all.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: Like these guys talk about rhythm and flow and getting their first touches in the goalie.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: He always wants his first save to get his hands on the ball.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: Early Holland touches the ball maybe three times before he gets that header and scores a goal.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: And it's just it's it's insane.
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: And kudos to Villa for shutting them down for the rest of the game.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: But he gets a half moment and bang, it it's a it's a close game again.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: Like it's it never gets out of hand when he's on the other side.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: No, you're 100% right.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: And it it's long stretches where it looks like he's just getting cardio.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: And he's making the runs and hoping for the ball, but it doesn't find him for long periods, and somehow City are still able to get him goals each match with those limited touches.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: And it's a complete juxtaposition, too, from how Manchester City used to play.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: It used to be when Pep Guardiola took over, it was an all-encompassing, all 11 guys are gonna play with the ball, and then it was a big shift for Pep when Holland arrived to try to work him in, and Pep hadn't been utilizing a striker like that in his past.
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: And they found a way for it to work.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: And Morasco's doing the same, but I think Holland will be looking at his teammates like closely in this one because it just feels like they failed them a bit.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: The midfield, it wasn't, they weren't at their best.
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: Enzo was kind of a ghost in this match.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: I thought the back line, which is usually pretty solid from City Mark Gaye had a stinker, yeah.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: And that's what it ended up costing them in the long run.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: And I just think there's we've talked about it a little bit.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: It was a little bit too unpredictable for Manchester City.
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: Their style of play, they're conceding too many goals to be a bulletproof team each weekend, and this is the first time it's caught up to them.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you you did hint at that, so I'll definitely give you credit there, Sean.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: I also think maybe we ask Donaruma a couple questions about Jackson's second goal.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: He hits it hard, but it's kind of right at Donoruma.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: GG had a stinker.
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: And people talk about him as the best keeper in the world.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: I just see too many instances of this from him.
- 11:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: And this isn't one where he tosses it in his own net, but if you're the best keeper in the world, you save that ball.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: Probably 10 times out of 10.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: You know, or at least nine times out of ten, and he really wasn't even close.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: So I'm with you.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: I would definitely ask some questions about him as well.
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: Overall, a definitely disappointing performance from City, and then you pair that with some of the other results this weekend, and they're all of a sudden feeling a little bit of pressure.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 11:46SPEAKER_00: Moving into the next one, and this is a great segue.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: Arsenal.
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: Arsenal beats Everton 2-0 at home.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: Arsenal just, again, it does, it's not overwhelmingly dominant, but they are in control of the game, and you kind of just knew that they were gonna end up getting three points out of this one.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: There's still questions, I would say, about their forwards, as both their goals came from their center backs, uh, which I did enjoy because they are both on my fantasy Premier League team.
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: So big week, big week for Team Brandon.
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: We'll talk about that later.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I just Sean, I don't know what it is.
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: It's good.
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: I I can't hate because they win every week, so it's it's there, and they don't concede very much.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: So the strategy is there, but are they gonna need forward production to win this league, or can they win the league playing the way they're playing?
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: Unfortunately, Brandon, the answer is they can win the league playing the way they're playing.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: I feel like Aaron Paul and Breaking Bad, he can't keep getting away with this.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: It's every weekend for me with Arsenal.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: I hate the way they play, and some of that may be because of the like a little bit of tinted colored glasses I'm wearing.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: It's not as obscene as I'm alluding to, but I don't think it's a beautiful brand of football by any means.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: And they just keep getting away with it because they're so sound defensively.
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: They're difficult to break down, they don't toss goals in their own net, they don't have mistakes from Raya, as we saw from Donaruma, and their center backs are pretty good at not making mistakes like we saw in the Forest match.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: So it's just a really well-put-together team in terms of they understand the first priority is keeping the other team out.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: And if you go into each weekend with that, it's just a very predictable formula, and they find ways to score these scrappy goals.
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: And none of them are beautiful 30-pass sequences, but each week they're able to score goals from a variety of different ways.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: They don't need that out-and-out striker because they signed Victor Yokarez last year, and he's been kind of a flop for them.
- 13:39SPEAKER_01: He was, I guess, fine last season, but he wasn't blowing anybody away, and this season he's been kind of a ghost.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: They have Kai Havertz, who's pretty good for them, but he's not an out-and-out number nine.
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: And each week they kind of just find ways to dink and dunk goals in.
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: It's never pretty, it's annoying, it doesn't seem like it should be repeatable, but it's been happening for over a year and a half now.
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: And even two years ago, when they finished second, they were doing the same sort of thing, and they were kind of unlucky not to win the league then.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: So it's unfortunate for me as a very, very big hater of this club, but it is repeatable, and I would still peg them as favorites to win the league.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: I really haven't wavered on that this year.
- 14:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: It's it's not fun to watch, but it's effective and it works.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: And look, I'm that way about goalkeepers.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: You know that.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: You want the pretty goalkeeper.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: I just want the goalie that makes the saves and kicks the ball out of bounds.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: I don't care.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: So Arsenal, I guess theoretically, I should be a fan of them.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: Obviously, just like you, I do have tinted glasses on, so I can't like it or appreciate it at all, but it's effective and it works.
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: So kudos to them.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: Everton really didn't show many signs of scoring at all in this game.
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: So it really was just on Arsenal.
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: Hey, if you can figure out how to get it in once, you're probably you're probably alright, and that's all they needed.
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: And they end up scoring two, but probably could have easily won this one 1-0 and just walked away from that.
- 14:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Everton would have needed to play really, really good football for a 10-pass sequence to get a goal, or to have a flash of brilliance in one of those half chances that they had.
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: And I just don't think Everton or a squad built like that.
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: They don't have players capable of doing those things.
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: And that's why I agree they never really threatened in this match.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: I always felt like it was going to be Arsenal.
- 15:21SPEAKER_01: From the it was another one from the opening kick.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: I was just kind of like, yeah, we know what's happening here.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: Let's just get to the end of it.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: The other 10 a.m.
- 15:28SPEAKER_00: match, Sean, we had Coventry and Fulham.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: Fulham taking all three points at Coventry.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: Huge, huge win for Arbelo and his boys.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: They're starting to play a little bit better overall.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: I'll give them that.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: I don't think either team really looked great.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: And it was an 80th minute winner from Oscar Bob.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: But if you're Fulham, you go on the road and you take away three points, you have to be satisfied.
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: If you're Coventry, I think the questions are still there.
- 15:53SPEAKER_00: And we they know they're gonna be towards the bottom of the league.
- 15:57SPEAKER_00: But you get a team like Fulham in your stadium, you probably gotta get a point out of that one.
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: I agree with you, especially when you left it so late in the game, too.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: It was anybody's game up until that 80th minute, and Fulham a really good performance just in terms of continuing to row in the right direction.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: We pointed to this stretch of games for them as being very important because if they didn't show something here, they were probably going to be moving into a new manager, and it could get really scary for Fulham really quickly.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: Instead, they've kind of answered the bell.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: They've won the matches they're supposed to win.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: This was a really good performance away from home just because they got it over the line.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: Was it pretty?
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: No.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: This game was an absolute snooze to watch.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: It was another ugly one, Brandon.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: We had a few of these, and especially when you compare it to some of the brilliant games we saw, which we'll get to, but Fulham do enough, and that is such a big deal to get yourself just far away.
- 16:50SPEAKER_01: You don't want to be in the same sentence as Coventry.
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: And winning this match gets you to a place in the table that you're really not.
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: So I give Fulham credit, they deserved the three.
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: If it were up to me, I thought they were the better team on balance.
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: I think that, like you alluded to, the questions of Coventry are starting to rear their head again.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: They came out in the season, we were really worried about them.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: Then they won a couple, and we're like, oh, okay, they're settling in.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: I think there's some real big question marks, and it might be sink or swim time for old Frankie Lampard there too.
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: Speaking of Frank Lampard, our 1230 game, Sean, our Tottenham Hotspur.
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: Boys march into Chelsea, into West London, and take down Chelsea 2-0.
- 17:34SPEAKER_00: In my notes here, I put signature win for Roberto DeZerby.
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: It's crazy that Spurs have won their, I believe that was the second time in 40 years, winning at Stanford Bridge second time in the Premier League era.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: First time since 2018.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: Just absurd numbers because you play there every season.
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: But they the Spurs came out on the front foot and they dominated.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: They really dominated Chelsea for much of this match.
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: It was great to watch.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: And we've said it every week.
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: They've been coming out on top, and it just hasn't been put together.
- 18:05SPEAKER_00: And it didn't for a while.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: Until our lovely corner kick and goalkeeper Mike Penders, the backup goalkeeper for Chelsea, literally puts this one in his own net, Sean.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: A great, great goal to see.
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: If you're a Spurs fan, you appreciate it.
- 18:20SPEAKER_00: And and then Mateus Tell, the second goal, an individual brilliance.
- 18:26SPEAKER_00: I mean, he picks the ball up behind midfield, he dribbles through three or four guys and slots it home in the corner.
- 18:31SPEAKER_00: Something that I don't know if I knew that was in his locker.
- 18:35SPEAKER_00: I think he's shown flashes of it, and he played really well.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: I'll give him that.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: But even before the goal, he was running wild on that wing, and it was great from him.
- 18:45SPEAKER_00: And then to see him come out with a goal and Spurs was able were able to just hold out Chelsea for the rest of the game.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: Cole Palmer gets a second yellow card, he gets sent off.
- 18:53SPEAKER_00: But all in all, Sean, you you have to be thrilled with that result.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: Oh Brandon, I I canceled plans the rest of the day.
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: I I was absolutely lapping it up.
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: I watched the Rory Jennings, who's a diehard Chelsea supporter, and he is the most unbearable smug prick in the creator space.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: But he knows he is.
- 19:13SPEAKER_01: I actually, one of the podcasts I follow, The Fighting Cox, my favorite podcast in the world, Flav is friends with Rory, and he says behind the scenes he's a really good guy.
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: So I trust that he is a good guy, but the persona he plays is this unlikable, detestable human.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: And I watched his rant three times.
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: It was a 12-minute video.
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: I watched it three times.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: I could not get enough, Brandon.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: It was amazing.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: And this, I talked about it before the match, these Darbies are matches that I typically don't enjoy watching because they're just stress tests the whole time.
- 19:41SPEAKER_01: It's oh God, please, please, please.
- 19:43SPEAKER_01: They're not really enjoyable.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: This from the first moment, we took it to Chelsea.
- 19:48SPEAKER_01: I think at one point we were dominating possession 71 to 29.
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: It was as thorough a performance as I can remember from Tottenham, away from home in the Premier League, especially at Stanford Bridge, a place where, like you alluded to, we never win two times in 40 years.
- 20:05SPEAKER_01: It was probably the best performance in my lifetime since I've been a Spurs fan there.
- 20:10SPEAKER_01: I think it just tops the Easter Miracle, which was the win in 2018 that you talked about.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: And it was brave, they dominated, and just being on the edge of fierce and competitive, but keeping their heads about them.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: I thought was a really key point.
- 20:25SPEAKER_01: It's really important in Darby's to not lose your head, which we saw that petulant prick Cole Palmer do.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: And I don't know.
- 20:33SPEAKER_01: The first incident from Cole wasn't a red.
- 20:36SPEAKER_01: Because let me tell you this: if Kuti Romero did that, he would have been shot dead.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: He literally would be an Azkaban.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: He'd be in jail for years if he did that to an English player.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: But uh English player Cole Palmer, this Chelsea guy who he plays dumb and all this.
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: He he that's a scumbag move.
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: That bony prick hip thrusts Matias Fernandez as he's on the ground completely after the whistle.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: It should have been a sending off then.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: I'm glad he got what was coming to him.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: And then after that, Brandon, you talk about the Matisse Tell goal.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: Just such a cruel moment for Matisse Tell.
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: He's a guy who it hasn't really clicked at Tottenham in the way you want it to when you pay a large sum for a young, exciting player.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: You he goes and plays for the France U-21s and he captains them and he scores four every international break, and everybody in France says, Oh my god, he's this unbelievable talent.
- 21:29SPEAKER_01: And we've seen flashes of it at Spurs, but it's never been against elite competition.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: And in this game, he had Aki Yam Pong on his back foot the whole game, and then he finally gets his moment with that goal.
- 21:41SPEAKER_01: He does his trademark celebration where he covers his mouth and points to his head.
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: I was really happy for him.
- 21:48SPEAKER_01: And it just reminded me this was Chelsea's Super Bowl.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: Chelsea don't have another rival that they care about as much as Tottenham.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: We are people's Super Bowl.
- 21:59SPEAKER_01: Say you were Small club, say what you want.
- 22:01SPEAKER_01: Arsenal, what fixture do they look for when their list comes out?
- 22:04SPEAKER_01: They look for Spurs.
- 22:05SPEAKER_01: Chelsea, what fixture do they look for?
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: They look for Spurs.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: West Ham, what do they look for?
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: They look for Spurs.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: Not anymore because you're in the Jampo.
- 22:11SPEAKER_01: But I just want to tell people we are back.
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: Spurs are back.
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: I am so happy.
- 22:17SPEAKER_01: I'm ready to be heard again.
- 22:19SPEAKER_01: Roberto Ball is here to say.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: A brilliant performance.
- 22:23SPEAKER_01: I'm still buzzing.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: It's the type of feeling after the game when you just feel like you're on top of the world.
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: Like nothing can go wrong.
- 22:32SPEAKER_00: You're like, you know, you're making your lunch afterwards and the food burns.
- 22:35SPEAKER_00: You're like, ah, it's fine.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: I'll eat it still.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: It doesn't even matter.
- 22:37SPEAKER_00: Still tastes good.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: Everything's just brighter.
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: The sun's a little bit brighter outside.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: The birds are a little bit louder, chirping.
- 22:44SPEAKER_00: It's it's incredible, Sean.
- 22:45SPEAKER_00: It's a great, great deal.
- 22:50SPEAKER_01: Like, I was just smiling throughout the day.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: It was like, oh wow, I caught myself smiling again.
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: I was so happy.
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: I watched so many videos of both Tottenham fans rejoicing and the away end, the Tottenham away end.
- 23:01SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 23:01SPEAKER_01: It's away end in the Prem from the first minute before we knew we won.
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: We were the ones making noise.
- 23:07SPEAKER_01: It's the Tottenham boys making all the noise.
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: And oh, they're such a special group.
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: I wish I could have been there.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: They would have had to remove me forcefully because I would have just been standing there taking the piss.
- 23:17SPEAKER_01: When they started, is there a fire drill?
- 23:18SPEAKER_01: Is all the Chelsea fans are heading for the exit?
- 23:20SPEAKER_01: That was just great, Brandon.
- 23:21SPEAKER_01: It was just great.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna rewatch that game probably 10 times in my life.
- 23:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that that's fantastic.
- 23:26SPEAKER_00: And I'm glad you hinted at the away end.
- 23:29SPEAKER_00: I texted my wife this morning and I was like, we need to find a way to go to a Spurs game and say in the away end because I need those limbs in my life.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: It was absolute scenes.
- 23:38SPEAKER_00: Tottenham away, Olay Olay, for the last 15-20 minutes of the game.
- 23:42SPEAKER_00: You just hear it on the TV and taking the piss right out of them, Brandon.
- 23:47SPEAKER_01: It was so funny.
- 23:49SPEAKER_00: It was so funny.
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: I saw so many videos.
- 23:52SPEAKER_01: I was just my whole for you page was just limbs in the away end.
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: And then I saw Deli Alley was there sitting next to John Terry and he posted a cheeky little video.
- 24:00SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: I love it, Deli.
- 24:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I just couldn't get enough.
- 24:03SPEAKER_01: We could spend we can cancel the rest of the uh games and just talk about this one if you want.
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: But no, no, honestly though, it's it's great, and you want to see it continue.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: I believe they play Crystal Palace next week and you have to take care of business again.
- 24:15SPEAKER_00: But this is the type of performance, Sean, that you need to take, bottle it, and build on it, because if Spurs want to be a European level contending team, these are the performances you need.
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: So you take that and you love it, but you need to now repeat it again.
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: I'm 100% with you, and we will.
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: Moving on to Spurs' next opponent, uh Crystal Palace, I just hinted at.
- 24:38SPEAKER_00: They hosted Newcastle this weekend.
- 24:41SPEAKER_00: Newcastle with a 2-0 win went into Crystal Palace and took all three points.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: Two goals straight after halftime.
- 24:48SPEAKER_00: It was like new it was like Crystal Palace was still in the dressing room.
- 24:51SPEAKER_00: Newcastle comes in, scores two goals, and basically that was the end of the game.
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: My question to you, Sean, you already know.
- 25:01SPEAKER_00: Is this it for Pier Sage at home?
- 25:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's a chance that people are listening to this and he's been sacked.
- 25:08SPEAKER_01: And and there's another manager who we're gonna talk about very shortly that that could be the same case for.
- 25:12SPEAKER_01: It's truly one of those situations where I don't know what the club's thinking is if they're trying to get to that November fall break, international break that I alluded to, it's a couple weeks off.
- 25:23SPEAKER_01: That may be the case where you either stack the guy now and have an interim in place until then, or you stack in the week of that and you have two weeks to find the replacement and get things situated.
- 25:34SPEAKER_01: This performance from Crystal Palace was not good enough.
- 25:36SPEAKER_01: And it was against a side in Newcastle that isn't super impressive or super scary if you look at it on paper and in practice.
- 25:44SPEAKER_01: One of my buddies, Joe Zweibel, who's a Newcastle fan, he just complains every week that Joe Willock and Harvey Barnes are still out there starring for him.
- 25:51SPEAKER_01: And they were able to get the job done against Palace because that's how poor Palace were.
- 25:56SPEAKER_01: It seems to be a sinking ship in Palace.
- 25:59SPEAKER_01: I'm worried for them.
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: I don't know what the answer is, and if they have those answers in the squad currently.
- 26:04SPEAKER_01: One of my notes in this game, I used to appreciate John Phillip Mateta.
- 26:08SPEAKER_01: I thought he was a pretty good player.
- 26:10SPEAKER_01: I think he might be a lump.
- 26:13SPEAKER_01: I hate to call him a lump.
- 26:15SPEAKER_01: But because of that French association, the French tag next to him, I think he's got a bit more to his game than old Liam Delap.
- 26:22SPEAKER_01: Sorry, Liam Delump.
- 26:24SPEAKER_01: But he might not.
- 26:25SPEAKER_01: He indeed might just be a French lump.
- 26:28SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure I've been very unimpressed by him recently.
- 26:31SPEAKER_00: We'll be workshopping his nicknames next week, Sean.
- 26:34SPEAKER_00: But yeah, Newcastle, we've said they've been kind of all over the place, I feel like, this season, but uh a win for them in this situation.
- 26:43SPEAKER_00: They started to finish those chances.
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: They were getting the ball in decent areas, getting really good opportunities, and just not that final pass or that finish.
- 26:52SPEAKER_00: Comes out at halftime and they score two back to back pretty quickly.
- 26:55SPEAKER_00: It's it's good to see, and they're able to just pretty much hold Crystal Palace off because Crystal Palace, there was a lot of finger pointing after that second goal in it.
- 27:03SPEAKER_00: And I think it just deflated Sellers Park.
- 27:06SPEAKER_00: There was nothing left, and Newcastle said, Alright, cool, we'll just take these three points and go back up north after this one.
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: So a good win from them, but more questions and answers at Crystal Palace following that game.
- 27:18SPEAKER_03: For sure.
- 27:20SPEAKER_00: Here's one for you.
- 27:21SPEAKER_00: Before we get to what I know you want to talk about, we gotta talk Liverpool Brighton, Sean.
- 27:27SPEAKER_00: Liverpool, did we get our 90-minute performance we've been asking for?
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: We might have.
- 27:33SPEAKER_00: I don't know, but regardless, a 2-0 win at home versus a team in Brighton that has looked incredible to start this season.
- 27:42SPEAKER_00: Liverpool really managed the game, I think, after they got those two goals.
- 27:48SPEAKER_00: Uh before it was a little, I think it was a little chaotic, honestly.
- 27:51SPEAKER_00: But I called them out.
- 27:52SPEAKER_00: I said Liverpool need a statement win, and I think this was really it.
- 27:56SPEAKER_00: Brighton's probably not super upset with this loss.
- 27:59SPEAKER_00: I think they had a lot of chances.
- 28:01SPEAKER_00: They give up a weird, fluky own goal, but I I do think they need to do maybe a bit more if they want to be in that upper echelon of teams in the Premier League this season where they've been to start.
- 28:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think that's a good point.
- 28:13SPEAKER_01: They kind of had a decent amount of chances in this game and just struggled to make the right decision in the final third.
- 28:19SPEAKER_01: It was a little panicky, and sometimes you'd be like, oh, I don't know if that was the right ball to play, or ooh, I don't know if that was the right time to shoot.
- 28:25SPEAKER_01: Things like that.
- 28:26SPEAKER_01: And they just got a bit flustered, they fell behind in the match.
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: And I don't want to sit here and say Liverpool have figured it out and they're back.
- 28:32SPEAKER_01: I'm still gonna reserve that.
- 28:34SPEAKER_01: I do think they're starting to trend in the right direction, and I think the most important thing for Liverpool, they're starting to figure it out up top.
- 28:41SPEAKER_01: Barkola looked good, ESAC is looking good, Verts is looking a lot better, and they're starting to figure out what their strike force looks like and how they're going to score goals consistently.
- 28:51SPEAKER_01: That's been the biggest thing for me these last couple of weeks with them.
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: I was impressed that they were able to keep a clean sheet in this match.
- 28:57SPEAKER_01: Brighton had been one of the best attacks in the Prem.
- 28:59SPEAKER_01: And I think some of the decision making that Brighton was making, some of those poor decisions, were down to the fact that Liverpool were kind of comfortable in playing with their backs against the wall and blocking shots and then making them pay on the counter.
- 29:13SPEAKER_01: So I thought they did a good job of balancing the game, especially when they went up to, like you said, it was a very good win for Areola in front of the home faithful because they did need a performance like that against a good side just to get people to reaffirm their belief.
- 29:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 29:28SPEAKER_00: They'll they'll be happy with that.
- 29:30SPEAKER_00: Maybe there's some questions in Brighton's camp, but I don't I don't think they're as bad as maybe the result was.
- 29:41SPEAKER_00: I I think they played pretty well.
- 29:42SPEAKER_00: Liverpool did just capitalize on their chances, and sometimes that's all it takes, similar to kind of how Arsenal plays.
- 29:50SPEAKER_00: Here we go.
- 29:51SPEAKER_00: Now, here we go, Sean.
- 29:53SPEAKER_00: United and Bournemouth.
- 29:55SPEAKER_00: Now Bournemouth go into Ultra, take all three points with a 3-0 win.
- 30:01SPEAKER_00: Around this game, Bruno Fernandez doesn't start, doesn't even appear off the bench.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: Michael Carrick, signature calm, handover face, just kind of standing there, doesn't know what to do.
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: Is it it, Sean?
- 30:15SPEAKER_00: Is that the last game Michael Carrick coaches as Manchester United manager?
- 30:19SPEAKER_01: I think it is, Brandon.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: And I unfortunately for Mr.
- 30:22SPEAKER_01: Carrick, I have another nickname, and it will be going to any manager who looks utterly clueless and puts his hand to his chin moving forward.
- 30:29SPEAKER_01: I will be calling that the Carrick.
- 30:31SPEAKER_01: It's just every time they cut this guy, man, he looks so clueless.
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: He's never spoken a word.
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: He's never said a damn word.
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: He gets people whispering in his ear what's going on as assistant coaches or a trainer, and he doesn't even, he just gives a subtle nod.
- 30:46SPEAKER_01: Oh, this guy, he's a broken man.
- 30:48SPEAKER_01: He did a two-hour press conference about the history of Manchester United and how proud he was to be a part of this club.
- 30:53SPEAKER_01: I think that says enough.
- 30:55SPEAKER_01: I think from that moment forward, he was probably sacked.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: He benches Bruno because Bruno basically questioned his tactics after the last game publicly, which you can't do.
- 31:03SPEAKER_01: And I actually agree with the move from Carrick to bench him.
- 31:06SPEAKER_01: You can't allow that.
- 31:08SPEAKER_01: You would have completely lost contain, so to speak, if you allowed that madness to happen.
- 31:13SPEAKER_01: But it didn't necessarily help him on the pitch either.
- 31:15SPEAKER_01: So you were kind of hoping that, okay, maybe bench the bad egg and the rest of the group rallies behind, galvanizes them.
- 31:21SPEAKER_01: That was far from the case.
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: Some really good born with goals in this one.
- 31:25SPEAKER_01: The first goal set piece, Kloivert whips in a beautiful ball.
- 31:30SPEAKER_01: Ryan scores right off the, I guess, volley.
- 31:32SPEAKER_01: I don't know if that ball hit the ground.
- 31:33SPEAKER_01: It was almost perfect.
- 31:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: So that was that was cool to see.
- 31:39SPEAKER_01: It was also a weird free kick that was conceded, Brandon.
- 31:42SPEAKER_01: I don't know if you remember how they got that free kick, but Aiden Heaven kind of went two feet studs up.
- 31:48SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 31:49SPEAKER_01: But he just completely won the ball.
- 31:51SPEAKER_01: He didn't touch the opponent.
- 31:52SPEAKER_01: It was a reckless challenge.
- 31:54SPEAKER_01: And listen, he could have been sent off that nick to the opponent, but he didn't.
- 31:58SPEAKER_01: So I was it was a weird one for me.
- 31:59SPEAKER_01: I was like, oh, I didn't really realize that you could give the free kick there for not making contact.
- 32:04SPEAKER_01: But that started the downward spiral.
- 32:06SPEAKER_01: And from there, it was it was really bad.
- 32:08SPEAKER_01: Evan Nielsen, really quality touch around the keeper because of the wind.
- 32:14SPEAKER_01: That was the third goal.
- 32:16SPEAKER_01: The second goal was because of the rain.
- 32:17SPEAKER_01: That's when Gary Neville brought up the slipping from Lenny Oro.
- 32:20SPEAKER_01: One of my notes actually was Lenny Oro looked brilliant early.
- 32:23SPEAKER_01: He cleared a chance off the line, as he did against Spurs a couple of times.
- 32:27SPEAKER_01: He played a brilliant ball from deep on the right-hand side, a crossfield switch.
- 32:32SPEAKER_01: And I was like, oh, he's such a good player.
- 32:34SPEAKER_01: And then of course he gets done for the second goal.
- 32:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's just old Trafford's falling down, is my main takeaway.
- 32:40SPEAKER_01: They've got real issues at United.
- 32:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the the fans didn't seem thrilled.
- 32:45SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of questions there.
- 32:47SPEAKER_00: They're captains on the bench.
- 32:49SPEAKER_00: I mean, maybe, maybe it's time to rip the band aid for them.
- 32:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, where do you go?
- 32:54SPEAKER_01: Some of the some of the people have been saying Eddie Howe or Julian Random.
- 32:58SPEAKER_01: I think both of those are more exciting proven managers than Michael Carrick is.
- 33:02SPEAKER_01: So that's a good step.
- 33:04SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 33:04SPEAKER_01: They've done more at the managerial level than Carrick has, for sure.
- 33:08SPEAKER_01: And that was some of my concern with United coming into the year.
- 33:11SPEAKER_01: It's like, yes, he he did a good job as that interim manager last season, but a lot of that was just kind of simplifying things and being a guy who galvanized a group, who was downtrodden, not having European football, he's a club legend.
- 33:24SPEAKER_01: You're able to quickly turn those feelings, you get good vibes in the camp, and you finish third.
- 33:29SPEAKER_01: I didn't know that he's proven enough in his managerial career to take that job full-time and run with it exactly.
- 33:34SPEAKER_01: I thought he'd do better than this, but it's now got to a point where I don't think it's tenable for much longer.
- 33:40SPEAKER_01: If they hire one of those two guys, I think long term I'd be way more interested in the Manchester United project.
- 33:46SPEAKER_00: Okay, fair enough.
- 33:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, definitely will be interesting to see.
- 33:49SPEAKER_00: And it's funny because, like you said, as we're recording this and as people listen to this, it could already be done.
- 33:56SPEAKER_00: So we'll see in the coming days what happens in the United camp.
- 34:00SPEAKER_00: Two more games to recap Sean.
- 34:04SPEAKER_00: The first one we'll talk about is Hull and Brentford.
- 34:07SPEAKER_00: Hull Brentford, a 1-1 draw.
- 34:10SPEAKER_00: I think Brentford maybe looked a little bit better in this one.
- 34:14SPEAKER_00: Not a super fun watch.
- 34:16SPEAKER_00: Uh, I don't think it's a bad result for either team.
- 34:19SPEAKER_00: Hull don't really get the win that they could don't get the win that they really could use, uh, but a point's still good at home.
- 34:24SPEAKER_00: And I think they seemed like they held on more than they earned it.
- 34:28SPEAKER_00: But interested to hear what you what you felt about this one overall.
- 34:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I thought the more likely winner was gonna be Brentford as the game went on.
- 34:37SPEAKER_01: I thought there was a good chance Brentford found a way to win that one late.
- 34:40SPEAKER_01: Ended up just being the points shared, which overall might be fair.
- 34:44SPEAKER_01: I would edge the game in Brentford's favor, but I thought Hole did enough to get a point there.
- 34:49SPEAKER_01: And at home, against a a competent, well-drilled side, I think that's nothing to scoff at for Hole.
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: You're continuing positive momentum.
- 34:56SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 34:57SPEAKER_01: So anytime you're getting a point in this league and some of those people that you came up with didn't, or some people like Crystal Palace can't sniff a point, I think it's a good thing.
- 35:07SPEAKER_01: And it was it came from a penalty, their goal, Ollie McBurney gets a goal.
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: It was a well-taken pen.
- 35:13SPEAKER_01: I I don't necessarily think they created the whole ton outside of that moment, you know.
- 35:17SPEAKER_01: It wasn't like they were beating down the hatches trying to get in, but sometimes that's all it takes.
- 35:23SPEAKER_01: Would wouldn't it be nice for your club to get a pen?
- 35:26SPEAKER_01: I don't even know what they look like.
- 35:27SPEAKER_01: I don't even remember what they look like.
- 35:29SPEAKER_01: A dream.
- 35:30SPEAKER_01: I don't know who our penalty takers.
- 35:32SPEAKER_01: We haven't had one since Kane left.
- 35:34SPEAKER_01: Well actually been sunny, but it it's it's been a good question.
- 35:37SPEAKER_00: It's a good question.
- 35:38SPEAKER_00: I don't I don't know either.
- 35:39SPEAKER_00: But you're right.
- 35:40SPEAKER_00: We could use a a penalty sometimes here.
- 35:43SPEAKER_00: Uh I'll take that.
- 35:44SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I think it's it's fair.
- 35:46SPEAKER_00: Both points, both teams share the points in this one.
- 35:49SPEAKER_00: And again, on a windy, rainy game, not super fun to watch, but it's gonna happen, and and that's the nature of the Premier League.
- 35:58SPEAKER_00: Another the last game, another game that was a little weird, a little awkward, not much football being played.
- 36:04SPEAKER_00: Zero zero draw.
- 36:05SPEAKER_00: Sunderland holds off.
- 36:07SPEAKER_00: It's neither team scores.
- 36:10SPEAKER_00: I think both I think honestly though, and I know I've hated on Sunderland, it's been public, and I still hate Sunderland.
- 36:17SPEAKER_00: I I will say they did get a lot of half chances.
- 36:19SPEAKER_00: And I think they probably if I had to if I had to you know pick one or the other, I think Sunderland probably deserved to win this one a little bit more than Leeds, but because they're Sunderland and they suck, they don't score.
- 36:33SPEAKER_00: So it's a weird one.
- 36:34SPEAKER_00: If you're Leeds, I think you're fine with the point.
- 36:36SPEAKER_00: But Sunderland, you may be a little upset actually, not getting three out of this one.
- 36:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, based on the performance, it did feel like Sunderland were going to squeak a late goal.
- 36:44SPEAKER_01: I I thought they were, I thought Nilsen Angula was really good for Sunderland.
- 36:48SPEAKER_01: He he had some moments where you're like, ooh, that was that was nice.
- 36:50SPEAKER_01: And he's a player that has that little quality that I like.
- 36:54SPEAKER_01: And they just weren't able to get one through.
- 36:56SPEAKER_01: I think a draw is probably fair, but if you were to edge it, it would probably be in Sunderland's favor.
- 37:01SPEAKER_01: I think this was important for Sunderland to not lose this match.
- 37:05SPEAKER_01: A loss at home really starts to spiral things.
- 37:08SPEAKER_01: This draw felt like it settled things just a bit.
- 37:11SPEAKER_01: It buys LeBris some more time to try to figure things out.
- 37:14SPEAKER_01: It's not a band-aid that's gonna fix their wound, but it it buys them some more time and a little bit of composure as things were starting to get a little bit hot and heavy with the Sunderland talk and their performances recently.
- 37:26SPEAKER_01: Leads have been a good side.
- 37:27SPEAKER_01: A draw against them is a fine result.
- 37:30SPEAKER_01: This game, though, Brandon, it's like if a tree falls in the woods, does it make a sound?
- 37:34SPEAKER_01: I mean, 12 30 on a Sunday, there's a million sports hun.
- 37:38SPEAKER_01: It's like, alright, I I cannot be locked into this.
- 37:42SPEAKER_01: It was just it was garbage going back and forth for most of the match.
- 37:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, not a fun one to watch, but LeBrie maybe saves off being the first Premier League manager fired.
- 37:54SPEAKER_00: So kudos to him.
- 37:55SPEAKER_00: Maybe he gets a couple more weeks.
- 37:57SPEAKER_00: If if he's fired before Carrick, something's really wrong.
- 38:01SPEAKER_01: Really wrong.
- 38:03SPEAKER_00: No, very, very, very true, Sean.
- 38:06SPEAKER_00: Just quickly running through sort of my best and worst of the week.
- 38:10SPEAKER_00: Best I had we we mentioned him earlier, Nicholas Jackson from Aspen Villa.
- 38:14SPEAKER_00: He had the brace, but just great football from him.
- 38:17SPEAKER_00: You hinted at it when you were recapping this match as well.
- 38:21SPEAKER_00: But the channels he's running into, the balls he's playing, he's just in and around it.
- 38:26SPEAKER_00: Like we say, we like to get amongst it, Sean.
- 38:29SPEAKER_00: Nicholas Jackson gets amongst it.
- 38:31SPEAKER_00: He's there.
- 38:31SPEAKER_00: He he's there when he needs to be, he's not when he doesn't need to be there.
- 38:35SPEAKER_00: And he's become a really reliable target forward for Villa.
- 38:39SPEAKER_00: In a team with a lot of new players, a lot of new faces, he's been that sort of that solid base for them.
- 38:46SPEAKER_00: And it's gonna be interesting to see as these new players get acclimated even further, if they can really push it and maybe clinch another European place uh following this season.
- 38:58SPEAKER_00: My worst uh I hint I said him earlier, the the Chelsea goalkeeper, Mike Penders.
- 39:04SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry, he played a decent game overall, but he truly you always say, Sean, toss it in your own net.
- 39:11SPEAKER_00: He literally threw it in his own net.
- 39:13SPEAKER_00: I mean, he punched the corner kick directly into the goal.
- 39:16SPEAKER_00: It was odd.
- 39:17SPEAKER_00: And of course, I do appreciate look, we talk about VAR and we don't like it.
- 39:21SPEAKER_00: They got the watch ball line crossing system down quick.
- 39:25SPEAKER_00: There's there's hardly any delay on that.
- 39:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that technology's good.
- 39:29SPEAKER_01: That technology's been around a while.
- 39:30SPEAKER_01: We've had time to refine it.
- 39:31SPEAKER_01: That technology's quick.
- 39:32SPEAKER_01: I have no issues with that technology.
- 39:34SPEAKER_01: We need to keep that in place.
- 39:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:39SPEAKER_01: He stunk the whole match.
- 39:40SPEAKER_01: He stunk.
- 39:41SPEAKER_01: He was awful, dreadful.
- 39:43SPEAKER_01: He was not fit for a game of that stature.
- 39:45SPEAKER_01: And it showed when the decision to send Palmer off came and he didn't even almost he almost even gave him a yellow.
- 39:51SPEAKER_01: It was shocking what he did.
- 39:53SPEAKER_01: But he wasn't gonna give that goal.
- 39:55SPEAKER_01: No, he he unless that watch buzzed, Brandon, he was saying nope, play on.
- 39:59SPEAKER_01: And I would have two-footed him if I was on the pitch.
- 40:01SPEAKER_01: So thank goodness that technology is in place.
- 40:04SPEAKER_01: I've always been a believer more technology in the game, more technology, more replays.
- 40:08SPEAKER_01: Make sure we get it right.
- 40:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's that's not true.
- 40:12SPEAKER_00: I'll let you I'll let you I'll let you slide there.
- 40:15SPEAKER_01: That was big facetious.
- 40:16SPEAKER_01: You can hardly say that with most of most of what we have technology-wise in football.
- 40:21SPEAKER_00: That is one thing I like.
- 40:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you can hardly say that with a straight face.
- 40:25SPEAKER_00: But uh, yeah, that that technology is great.
- 40:27SPEAKER_00: My best and worst team, quickly, I mentioned Fulham earlier.
- 40:31SPEAKER_00: I think they've been playing better.
- 40:32SPEAKER_00: Squeaked out another big win or below us.
- 40:34SPEAKER_00: Again, probably saves himself from being first manager fired as well.
- 40:38SPEAKER_00: And then my Tottenham Hotspur.
- 40:40SPEAKER_00: Look, I'm biased, I don't care, I'll show it.
- 40:43SPEAKER_00: The boys went to Stanford Bridge, got three points.
- 40:45SPEAKER_00: How many other teams have done that this season?
- 40:47SPEAKER_00: Not many.
- 40:48SPEAKER_00: So gotta shout out my boys Tottenham.
- 40:51SPEAKER_00: Worst, and Sean, you know where I'm going with this.
- 40:54SPEAKER_00: Manchester United and Crystal Palace.
- 40:56SPEAKER_00: Just disappointing, disappointing performances from both teams.
- 40:59SPEAKER_00: They just look uninspired.
- 41:01SPEAKER_00: And I think that's really what worries me the most.
- 41:04SPEAKER_00: It's it's okay when you lose a game, you're not playing, you're not on top of it.
- 41:08SPEAKER_00: But when you aren't going into tackles, you aren't challenging plays, heads go down, fingers start pointing, that's when I think you really need to worry.
- 41:16SPEAKER_00: And we saw a lot of that from both of these teams and managers that are in the hot seat.
- 41:21SPEAKER_00: So that's that's really for my reasoning, reasoning why they're the worst teams, not just because of the performances, but also the reaction to when bad things happen to their teams on the field.
- 41:31SPEAKER_01: I think that's a good shout, Brandon.
- 41:34SPEAKER_01: I I agree with you completely, and I don't want to like just exactly echo, copy and paste your statements there, but a lot of my best and worst awards are gonna share some overlap.
- 41:45SPEAKER_01: I gave my gold star performer to Nicholas Jackson.
- 41:48SPEAKER_01: I he's he's been on my list a few times this year already.
- 41:52SPEAKER_01: Like you said, he he's just really good, and he's starting to turn those into actual tangible goals, aside from just the whole up play and the runs and things of that nature.
- 42:01SPEAKER_01: He's doing it, he's scoring, and he's winning his club games.
- 42:03SPEAKER_01: So he gets my gold star.
- 42:05SPEAKER_01: My silver star was the best player on the pitch for Tottenham, Mateus Fernandez.
- 42:08SPEAKER_01: Thought he was absolutely brilliant.
- 42:11SPEAKER_01: It was the first match we saw Fernandez and Tonale play next to each other in the pivot.
- 42:16SPEAKER_01: That's the stuff of dream.
- 42:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it might have cost 190 mil.
- 42:20SPEAKER_01: I don't care.
- 42:20SPEAKER_01: I'd spent I'd spend it twice, Brandon.
- 42:24SPEAKER_01: It's not my money.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: I oh my god.
- 42:26SPEAKER_01: It was it was Dreamland.
- 42:28SPEAKER_01: And then Madison in the first half, before he, of course, got injured again.
- 42:33SPEAKER_01: He was unplayable.
- 42:35SPEAKER_01: Yes, it was so nice to see the boy when Madison plays for Spurs, we're just a different side.
- 42:40SPEAKER_01: He is the number 10 we need and should always have in the squad.
- 42:42SPEAKER_01: I wish we could clone him so we always had one for it because it makes a huge difference, but we can't.
- 42:48SPEAKER_01: And then my uh my bronze star, I I don't I haven't given one of these out yet, but in the name of honesty and fairness, I'm gonna give one to the Arsenal backline.
- 42:59SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna give it to all them because it's just kind of assumed that they keep a clean sheet on most weeks.
- 43:04SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna name them.
- 43:05SPEAKER_01: They get on the goal sheet like you alluded to.
- 43:07SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna name them, but they they put in a good shift and they deserve some credit.
- 43:12SPEAKER_01: Uh in terms of best team, obviously, Tottenham Hotspur.
- 43:16SPEAKER_01: In terms of best performance, we covered it.
- 43:19SPEAKER_01: Worst performance, Brandon.
- 43:22SPEAKER_01: Now the team's easy.
- 43:23SPEAKER_01: It it's Manchester United Crystal Palace, you said it.
- 43:25SPEAKER_01: My worst performer of the week, and there was a litany of places I could have gone here.
- 43:29SPEAKER_01: Could have been Cole Palmer, could have been his whiny bitch teammate Morgan Rogers, it won't be.
- 43:34SPEAKER_01: It could have been Mike Penders for tossing one in his own net.
- 43:37SPEAKER_01: It could have been Mark Gahey for basically tossing one in his own net, or GG Doroma.
- 43:41SPEAKER_01: It's none of them.
- 43:42SPEAKER_01: It's Michael, the statue, Carrick.
- 43:45SPEAKER_01: He didn't do a thing this whole this whole day.
- 43:48SPEAKER_01: His back was against the wall, jobs on the line, did nothing.
- 43:52SPEAKER_01: He was out of clues, out of ideas.
- 43:54SPEAKER_01: He was downtrodden heading in.
- 43:56SPEAKER_01: He was even more downtrodden headed out.
- 43:58SPEAKER_01: It was just an uninspiring performance.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: I don't know what I'm looking for in a manager, but I'll get to what I saw in El Classico from one Jose Mourinho.
- 44:05SPEAKER_01: It's closer to that than it is what I saw from Michael Carrick.
- 44:08SPEAKER_01: And yes, he didn't have anything to celebrate.
- 44:10SPEAKER_01: I'm not even sure he would have celebrated the goal one.
- 44:12SPEAKER_01: I think he's crazy numb.
- 44:14SPEAKER_00: I think he's just a statue.
- 44:16SPEAKER_00: Those are fantastic.
- 44:17SPEAKER_00: Best and worst, and I agree.
- 44:19SPEAKER_00: We might not know what to look for in a manager, but we know that it's not that.
- 44:22SPEAKER_00: It can't be that.
- 44:24SPEAKER_00: Just go, just go down with the ship.
- 44:25SPEAKER_00: Get a yellow.
- 44:27SPEAKER_00: Get a yellow.
- 44:29SPEAKER_01: Show a little a little passion.
- 44:31SPEAKER_01: Lay into the fourth official.
- 44:33SPEAKER_01: Tell him, tell him, hey, I'm gonna fucking I'm gonna light you up here just for my team, just to try to win them over.
- 44:40SPEAKER_01: And then light them up.
- 44:41SPEAKER_01: And they're like, all right, they're gaffers fighting.
- 44:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's all you need.
- 44:46SPEAKER_01: He did this the whole match.
- 44:48SPEAKER_00: He's the first it's almost like in Major League.
- 44:51SPEAKER_00: It's like in Major League Baseball when the the coach goes out and argues with the umpire, and he just kind of whispers to the umpire, yo, toss me, toss me.
- 44:58SPEAKER_00: Get me up, yeah.
- 44:59SPEAKER_00: You need the you sometimes you gotta invigorate the squad.
- 45:02SPEAKER_00: Like they need some juice.
- 45:03SPEAKER_00: There's just no juice in this.
- 45:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's what you need to do sometimes.
- 45:07SPEAKER_01: Something kick up a fuss.
- 45:09SPEAKER_01: You see what is there, but he's living and dying with what happens on the pitch.
- 45:13SPEAKER_01: That's my gaffer.
- 45:14SPEAKER_01: Yes, have fun with yours United.
- 45:16SPEAKER_01: I hope you keep them.
- 45:17SPEAKER_01: I hope you keep them.
- 45:18SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 45:20SPEAKER_01: The statue.
- 45:21SPEAKER_00: I literally do like the name Statue Carrick.
- 45:24SPEAKER_00: It's got a ring to it.
- 45:25SPEAKER_00: It does.
- 45:26SPEAKER_00: No, we'll we'll definitely we'll adopt that one moving forward, Sean.
- 45:30SPEAKER_00: You mentioned El Classico.
- 45:31SPEAKER_00: Fill me in on that and fill me in on maybe any other games I missed in Europe this weekend.
- 45:37SPEAKER_00: I will say I did not, I know the result of El Classico.
- 45:40SPEAKER_00: I the only highlight I saw was Jan Diamante Megging Laminia Mall.
- 45:45SPEAKER_00: Oh lord.
- 45:46SPEAKER_00: He caught him good.
- 45:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he did.
- 45:49SPEAKER_01: He did.
- 45:51SPEAKER_01: I'm glad you didn't see it, honestly, because I get to fill you in.
- 45:54SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna go into some detail.
- 45:55SPEAKER_01: This wasn't the best El Classico.
- 45:58SPEAKER_01: This game is usually just absolute scenes, yellow cards, goals flying everywhere, but it was still a great game.
- 46:04SPEAKER_01: And it would you could feel the stakes and the magnitude of it.
- 46:07SPEAKER_01: It was a really fascinating tactical battle.
- 46:09SPEAKER_01: That's what stood out.
- 46:10SPEAKER_01: Madrid were completely cool, giving Barcelona the ball, as you would expect.
- 46:15SPEAKER_01: And since Barcelona played that ridiculously high line, the pace that Real Madrid have up front gave them so many problems throughout.
- 46:22SPEAKER_01: And Mbappe would just sit where that line was and be ready to run in behind at a moment's notice.
- 46:28SPEAKER_01: And that was something that Barcelona struggled to balance.
- 46:31SPEAKER_01: In the first half, Barcelona are trying to figure out how to break down Madrid.
- 46:35SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure how Cucareya didn't get a yellow card.
- 46:38SPEAKER_01: Lamin had the better of him a few times, and he just he had four fouls in the first half.
- 46:43SPEAKER_01: And each one, they're like yellow, yellow, no yellows.
- 46:46SPEAKER_01: He ended up getting one in like the 90th minute, but he did not get one in the first half, which could have changed how he defended throughout the game.
- 46:51SPEAKER_01: But aside from that, he toes that line brilliantly.
- 46:54SPEAKER_01: He's an absolute pest to go up against.
- 46:56SPEAKER_01: I thought he was really good in this match.
- 46:57SPEAKER_01: Gerard Martin for Real Madrid's first goal.
- 47:00SPEAKER_01: He tries to clear the ball and he just passes it right into a running Mbappe.
- 47:04SPEAKER_01: And Mbappe doesn't know anything about it.
- 47:06SPEAKER_01: It just deflects off of him and into the net.
- 47:08SPEAKER_01: He doesn't shoot it or kick it.
- 47:09SPEAKER_01: It just deflects off of him.
- 47:11SPEAKER_01: It's 1-0 Madrid.
- 47:12SPEAKER_01: Barcelona are able to get back into the game.
- 47:16SPEAKER_01: They equalize from a really, really gross, disgusting reverse pass from Pedri, just quality, and then Rafinha slots at home.
- 47:24SPEAKER_01: I thought Pedri was actually pretty sloppy in this match, especially for his standards.
- 47:27SPEAKER_01: Like several times he passed the ball the other team.
- 47:29SPEAKER_01: I was like, that's not my Pedri.
- 47:31SPEAKER_01: He doesn't do that.
- 47:32SPEAKER_01: But he did in this one.
- 47:33SPEAKER_01: I don't think he was great.
- 47:34SPEAKER_01: The game goes on.
- 47:35SPEAKER_01: It's looking more and like more and more like a 1-1 draw.
- 47:38SPEAKER_01: It looks like both teams are going to get out of there, which would favor Madrid.
- 47:41SPEAKER_01: That they needed to not lose this game given their place in the standings heading in.
- 47:45SPEAKER_01: But then Madrid have a beautiful sequence that is capped off by an unbelievable job from Eduardo Camavinga.
- 47:52SPEAKER_01: He makes a run in, he plays it around Kubarsi, and then he cuts it back to Mbappe for the winner.
- 47:58SPEAKER_01: Absolute scenes at Camp New.
- 48:00SPEAKER_01: No yellow card for Jose, but his celebration for that second goal, he did a knee slide, Brandon.
- 48:07SPEAKER_02: He did a knee slide.
- 48:10SPEAKER_01: You should have saw him.
- 48:11SPEAKER_01: Brandon, the first goal, he didn't react.
- 48:13SPEAKER_01: He looked like Carrick.
- 48:14SPEAKER_01: He was just sitting down talking to his assistant, no reaction.
- 48:17SPEAKER_01: Second goal, knee slide, almost like a Harry Kane low fist bump.
- 48:21SPEAKER_01: It was great from Jose.
- 48:23SPEAKER_01: And uh Jose's quotes after the game were also phenomenal.
- 48:28SPEAKER_01: He said the ref was great, but VAR was asleep on minute 60.
- 48:33SPEAKER_01: He said that Jan Diamante should have had a red card challenge on him.
- 48:37SPEAKER_01: Jiao Cancelo kind of raked the back of his calf with his studs.
- 48:41SPEAKER_01: Could have been a red on the replay.
- 48:43SPEAKER_01: I didn't see it too well live.
- 48:45SPEAKER_01: It was a weird one because Diamante plays on for 50 yards.
- 48:50SPEAKER_01: He makes a run and then plays the ball and then goes down.
- 48:53SPEAKER_01: So I was like, oh what?
- 48:54SPEAKER_01: And it looked like he pulled his hamstring, honestly.
- 48:57SPEAKER_01: But then they show the replay and it duh Cancelo does catch him pretty lucky to get off without a red there.
- 49:03SPEAKER_01: That's what Jose was referring to.
- 49:05SPEAKER_01: But then he had a really interesting quote that I think speaks to the genius of Jose.
- 49:09SPEAKER_01: He said you can't attack Barcelona with your attackers, which sounds crazy because Mbappe scores both their goals.
- 49:18SPEAKER_01: But he said, because of the high line in Juan Garcia, who's Barcelona's keeper, you have to use those attackers to create space with those runs.
- 49:26SPEAKER_01: And then you have to attack with the midfielders.
- 49:29SPEAKER_01: And that's what he did with Jude and Camavinga for the winner.
- 49:32SPEAKER_01: And it was a brilliant piece of tactical knowledge.
- 49:35SPEAKER_01: And I almost think he put it out on purpose after he played Barcelona because now he's giving teams the recipe.
- 49:40SPEAKER_01: Like you want to utilize that.
- 49:42SPEAKER_01: So I thought that was brilliant.
- 49:44SPEAKER_01: And it was a really good result for just La Liga in general.
- 49:47SPEAKER_01: If you're a neutral fan of the league, the title race is on.
- 49:50SPEAKER_01: It's on and popping.
- 49:51SPEAKER_01: We've got Barcelona sitting top, still with 27 points, Atletico with 25, and now Madrid only three points behind with 24.
- 49:59SPEAKER_01: So that result really put a lot of faith back into there being a really good title fight in La Liga this year.
- 50:06SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 50:07SPEAKER_00: Thank you for summarizing.
- 50:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I it's funny.
- 50:10SPEAKER_00: I did not get to see the game at all.
- 50:12SPEAKER_00: And I went on Instagram and I saw 2-1.
- 50:15SPEAKER_00: I saw the result, but I didn't see any highlights.
- 50:17SPEAKER_00: And for whatever reason, on my just scrolling through Instagram quickly, and I saw the the Meg, and I was like, all right.
- 50:24SPEAKER_01: Jude also had a ridiculous one.
- 50:26SPEAKER_01: A ridiculous Meg through through like a bat, it was a sick move.
- 50:30SPEAKER_01: And then I mentioned Brandon, he had a two-on-one with Mbappe.
- 50:33SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 50:34SPEAKER_01: It was only those two, and Gerard Martin.
- 50:36SPEAKER_01: And Jude had the ball, and the whole time he's looking for the angle to play the pass to Mbappe, and he ultimately doesn't even get a pass off.
- 50:44SPEAKER_01: He kind of just runs out of.
- 50:45SPEAKER_01: It was, I've never seen Jude be so indecisive on what to do.
- 50:49SPEAKER_01: Gerard Martin really made up for the goal there in that moment because almost any other situation, that's going to be a goal for Madrid with those two guys barreling down on any defender.
- 50:58SPEAKER_01: I thought he did a really good job with his positioning, but it wasn't enough for Barcelona to get anything out of the game.
- 51:04SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 51:05SPEAKER_00: No, that's a great result for them.
- 51:07SPEAKER_00: And like you said, the title race is on.
- 51:09SPEAKER_00: And that's a fun, fun league to follow, especially if you're only going to pick a couple teams to watch.
- 51:14SPEAKER_00: Those two, Atletico, maybe throw Villarreal in there or Betis.
- 51:19SPEAKER_00: The top of that league is fun.
- 51:20SPEAKER_00: It's definitely fun to watch.
- 51:21SPEAKER_01: For sure.
- 51:22SPEAKER_01: And then quickly, I'm only going to talk about a couple games in Serie A, the ones I previewed.
- 51:26SPEAKER_01: Enter, they snatch a victory from the Jaws of Defeat, Brandon.
- 51:30SPEAKER_01: Down 2-1 late at home to Fiorentina, and they find a way to get all three points.
- 51:35SPEAKER_01: Turam scores the equalizer, and then Zelensky wins a penalty in the eighth minute of added time for a 2-1 victory.
- 51:42SPEAKER_01: Absolutely nutty.
- 51:43SPEAKER_01: It was a nutty, nutty game.
- 51:45SPEAKER_01: And the best game in Serie A this weekend was Napoli and Roma.
- 51:48SPEAKER_01: 3-3.
- 51:49SPEAKER_01: Fantastic match.
- 51:50SPEAKER_01: Goals flowing.
- 51:52SPEAKER_01: Dropped points for Roma, but they usually really struggle with Napoli.
- 51:55SPEAKER_01: I thought they'd be able to get the job done, but they're still battling so many injuries away from home.
- 52:00SPEAKER_01: I thought that was a pretty good result.
- 52:02SPEAKER_01: They have they signed a center back, Leo Ballardi, from Marseille.
- 52:06SPEAKER_01: They signed him for 25 or 30 million this year, and he was pretty widely available.
- 52:09SPEAKER_01: He was being shopped by Marseille because they needed money.
- 52:12SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure how Roma landed him.
- 52:14SPEAKER_01: He is unbelievably good.
- 52:15SPEAKER_01: He scored two goals in this game, and that's not why he's good.
- 52:18SPEAKER_01: He's just a great player.
- 52:19SPEAKER_01: He was the captain there.
- 52:20SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's just a weird transfer that was so cheap.
- 52:23SPEAKER_01: I feel like every Premier League club should have been jumping up for a player like him because he has the athleticism to fit in the league as well.
- 52:29SPEAKER_01: So that was, of course, the game of the weekend in Serie A.
- 52:32SPEAKER_01: Lazio went again to keep pace with Inter at the top of the table.
- 52:35SPEAKER_01: They're both on 22 points.
- 52:37SPEAKER_01: Lazio just keep finding a way.
- 52:39SPEAKER_01: It's not as pretty as some other clubs, but they've turned a corner under the new manager and it's working for them.
- 52:44SPEAKER_01: So that's the good news for them.
- 52:46SPEAKER_01: I hate to see it.
- 52:47SPEAKER_01: But also some good American news in Serie A this weekend.
- 52:50SPEAKER_01: Milan and Juve both pick up wins, and both the American boys get on the score sheet.
- 52:55SPEAKER_01: So West scores a goal and Polisic scores a goal.
- 52:58SPEAKER_01: Assisted from Luka Modric.
- 52:59SPEAKER_01: It's a pretty cool moment for CP at AC Milan, and both of those teams pick up wins that were much needed.
- 53:05SPEAKER_01: So that's the Serie A roundup.
- 53:07SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 53:07SPEAKER_00: Thank you for the Serie A roundup.
- 53:09SPEAKER_00: I love hearing about these other leagues that I really don't get enough time to pay attention to.
- 53:15SPEAKER_01: Um we've got like MLS for this program, so that that's you.
- 53:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's you.
- 53:21SPEAKER_00: Speaking of, quick, quick update and MLS because we have three games left now.
- 53:26SPEAKER_00: Midweek games this week, Sean, weekend games this weekend, and then next week, and that's it.
- 53:31SPEAKER_00: Uh so yeah, decision day is November 7th.
- 53:35SPEAKER_00: All the teams in the East will play, I believe they play earlier, and then all the teams in the west play at the same time in the evening.
- 53:41SPEAKER_00: So it's like two windows.
- 53:43SPEAKER_00: But this weekend, Nashville won the supporters shield as expected.
- 53:47SPEAKER_00: A 2-0 win at Montreal.
- 53:50SPEAKER_00: Uh Montreal's pretty bad.
- 53:52SPEAKER_00: Nashville's fantastic, obviously.
- 53:54SPEAKER_00: Philadelphia lost Sean.
- 53:56SPEAKER_00: They finally took that first loss, two to one.
- 53:58SPEAKER_00: Kevin Sullivan did not play.
- 54:00SPEAKER_00: Uh he was out with an injury.
- 54:01SPEAKER_00: They went down 2-0 and basically scored in.
- 54:04SPEAKER_00: I believe it was like the 92nd minute, another Neil Pierre header off of a cross.
- 54:08SPEAKER_00: Pretty much a signature staple union goal, but unfortunately, uh, they did lose to New England, uh, which pretty much the union technically have not clinched a playoff spot yet, but it's looking more and more like they'll be in the 5-6, 5-6 spot.
- 54:23SPEAKER_00: So, so not not bad from them, but at the same time, they wanted to, of course, get points at home.
- 54:28SPEAKER_00: Out west, Dallas, huge win over San Jose.
- 54:32SPEAKER_00: They are now one point behind Vancouver for first place in the West, which is now up for grabs.
- 54:38SPEAKER_00: Vancouver just has not been great, and Dallas has been on fire.
- 54:42SPEAKER_00: They're actually redoing their stadium shots.
- 54:45SPEAKER_00: I had the opportunity to go there last season, and only 50% of the stadium was open.
- 54:50SPEAKER_00: Truly, one half of the stadium was all under construction.
- 54:52SPEAKER_00: It was so weird.
- 54:53SPEAKER_00: He felt like you were at like a high school game.
- 54:55SPEAKER_00: But they they've redone it, and I think it's still being finished, but they had to play a ton of their games uh early in the season away so they could do most of the construction, and now they're integrating back their home games as well.
- 55:08SPEAKER_00: Uh big from Dallas, huge, huge in the West to potentially take first place.
- 55:14SPEAKER_00: And like I said, we have midweek games this week, weekend game Saturday and Sunday, and then next weekend, uh the final game, well, three games for pretty much every team left.
- 55:23SPEAKER_00: It's still a lot to play for, and we'll see where the playoff playoff standings end up shaking up because there's gonna be some really good matchups in round one.
- 55:33SPEAKER_00: And unlike I feel like the NBA or or maybe baseball, a two beating a seven or a three beating a six is not I'm sorry, a seven beating a two or a six beating a three is not unlikely.
- 55:44SPEAKER_00: It's a three-game series, so obviously the better seeds have more home games, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple of upsets, especially because a team like Philly is gonna most likely be a a higher seed having to play two away games, but I think the the quality in some of these these lower level teams in both the east and the west could shock a team if they're they're asleep.
- 56:07SPEAKER_00: So a lot to play for the MLS, and I'm excited to keep bringing it to you.
- 56:12SPEAKER_01: I am excited to keep hearing about it, Brandon.
- 56:14SPEAKER_01: I'm very excited for the playoffs.
- 56:16SPEAKER_01: I I kind of feel like the last couple of weeks I'm just yearning for the playoffs.
- 56:20SPEAKER_01: I want them to get here.
- 56:21SPEAKER_01: I wish your season had more emphasis.
- 56:23SPEAKER_01: I wish there was no playoffs, but since there is, I am excited for them.
- 56:27SPEAKER_01: Uh shout out to Nashville because they really were a dominant team this year.
- 56:31SPEAKER_01: And the supporter shield, I like to talk about the supportershield because it truly reflects who the best team was.
- 56:36SPEAKER_01: Clearly, clearly, actually season to win it with three games to go is impressive.
- 56:41SPEAKER_01: Brian Callahan, I think, is their coach.
- 56:42SPEAKER_01: If he's Callahan, yeah.
- 56:44SPEAKER_00: Former Philly guy.
- 56:46SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 56:46SPEAKER_01: And that I he's he's a good manager.
- 56:49SPEAKER_01: He just got away.
- 56:51SPEAKER_01: Like he that's that's an impressive job by him.
- 56:53SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't say they're the most talented roster, they're a good roster, just looking at it.
- 56:56SPEAKER_01: But if you look at intra Miami, you're gonna say, oh yeah, that squad has a lot more talent.
- 57:00SPEAKER_01: And they won the supporter shield with three games to spare.
- 57:04SPEAKER_01: So shout out Nashville.
- 57:05SPEAKER_01: Tough one for Philly, but it kind of comes with an asterisk with no Caffan.
- 57:09SPEAKER_00: So yeah, and and Philly actually they actually get Nashville uh this week, they gotta go to Nashville on Wednesday.
- 57:15SPEAKER_00: So a big hopefully.
- 57:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, BJ, BJ Callahan.
- 57:18SPEAKER_00: That's a good shout from you because he was a Philly assistant.
- 57:20SPEAKER_00: He actually was interim US MNT manager for like three games, I believe.
- 57:26SPEAKER_00: I was there.
- 57:30SPEAKER_00: But yeah, great guy.
- 57:31SPEAKER_00: I'm glad Nashville gave him a shot.
- 57:33SPEAKER_00: I believe this is his first MLS head coaching job.
- 57:36SPEAKER_00: He was he coached at Villanova for for a bit as well.
- 57:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's um I learned about him a little bit when he got the US interim job.
- 57:42SPEAKER_01: And I remember he was he was a very good coach at Nova.
- 57:45SPEAKER_01: And then now it's cool to see him doing well in the MLS.
- 57:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we crossed we crossed paths when I worked for the union.
- 57:51SPEAKER_00: Really, really good guy in the office.
- 57:53SPEAKER_00: Like truly as an assistant, of course, his role was a little bit different, but he's the he's the kind of guy the players could go to, talk to, just a good, good locker room guy as a manager, as a coach, and it's cool to see him now thriving as a manager for an MLS team.
- 58:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, of course.
- 58:09SPEAKER_00: Calhan sounds like an Irish American, probably a great locker roy.
- 58:12SPEAKER_01: Just like that.
- 58:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 58:14SPEAKER_01: That in the mix.
- 58:16SPEAKER_00: Exactly, Sean.
- 58:17SPEAKER_00: Anything else you want to end with tonight?
- 58:19SPEAKER_01: No, no.
- 58:20SPEAKER_01: I think this was an appropriate celebration of Tottenham, but also just a good roundup.
- 58:26SPEAKER_01: We didn't just spend all our time praising our Tottenham hotspur.
- 58:30SPEAKER_01: We we bounced around, we covered everything we needed to.
- 58:32SPEAKER_01: It was an action-packed weekend, and until that next international break, it's going to be the same.
- 58:37SPEAKER_01: So no Champions League this week at least, but there is League Cups happening across all of Europe.
- 58:42SPEAKER_01: So we have that and MLS to look forward to midweek, and then we'll get together and talk about it and preview the weekend.
- 58:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, can't wait, Sean.
- 58:50SPEAKER_00: A lot on the horizon, a lot of games.
- 58:53SPEAKER_00: Get amongst it.
- 58:54SPEAKER_00: Get out to a game if you can.
- 58:56SPEAKER_00: MLS is finishing up.
- 58:57SPEAKER_00: Probably get a ticket for a little bit cheaper before the playoff prices hit.
- 59:00SPEAKER_00: So if you can have a chance to see a team that you want to see, now would be the time.
- 59:05SPEAKER_00: They probably have three games left, maybe one at home, two on the road, or vice versa.
- 59:10SPEAKER_00: So yeah, get out and see some see some quality football as the playoffs begin.
- 59:14SPEAKER_00: Sean, thank you as always.
- 59:16SPEAKER_00: Listeners, we appreciate the support.
- 59:19SPEAKER_00: Tell a friend to tell a friend.
- 59:20SPEAKER_00: Thank you for listening.
- 59:22SPEAKER_00: And until next time, take care.
