- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Hey guys, welcome to the Almost Famous podcast. Today is
- 0:09Speaker 2: one of those episodes. Are Ben and I are just
- 0:10Speaker 2: doing a little chat. We want to talk to you
- 0:13Speaker 2: guys about the new Year. I hope you guys have
- 0:16Speaker 2: a very safe and happy New Year. And now Ben
- 0:21Speaker 2: and I will reveal how we are spending our New year. Ben,
- 0:26Speaker 2: I don't ever make plans for New Year's Eve. I
- 0:28Speaker 2: don't remember when I ever had a plan for New
- 0:30Speaker 2: Year's Eve. The best New Year's Eve I've ever had,
- 0:33Speaker 2: besides ones of like my childhood teen years, which is
- 0:38Speaker 2: like always fun with your friends and doing crazy things
- 0:41Speaker 2: like going into Times Square at eleven thirty pm and
- 0:46Speaker 2: getting let in by coops and seeing the Jonas brothers
- 0:48Speaker 2: and all that when I was nineteen. It's great new
- 0:50Speaker 2: Year's put it as an adult New Year's My favorite
- 0:53Speaker 2: ones I've probably just been with a few close friends
- 0:56Speaker 2: in sweats playing games. What about you?
- 0:59Speaker 3: You know how I know I'm lame.
- 1:02Speaker 2: You've never seen it back into Times Square at eleven
- 1:04Speaker 2: thirty pm.
- 1:04Speaker 3: Well, no, I've definitely never done that. I I'm lame
- 1:09Speaker 3: because in my twenties.
- 1:11Speaker 4: Oh you fell asleep. You always fall asleep.
- 1:13Speaker 3: I really tried hard. There was two New Year's distinctively
- 1:18Speaker 3: that I remember. I tried hard going into him, being
- 1:22Speaker 3: like I'm going to party, Like I'm getting out there
- 1:26Speaker 3: on the town. I'm gonna like kind of get dressed up.
- 1:29Speaker 3: We're gonna go to a nice dinner, and then we're
- 1:32Speaker 3: gonna go to the clubs or the bars or whatever.
- 1:34Speaker 3: We're gonna like, I'm gonna put down the money, We're
- 1:37Speaker 3: gonna buy a table. We're gonna like do it up right. Yeah,
- 1:41Speaker 3: those are two of the worst like night memories I
- 1:43Speaker 3: have in my life. It sucks. It's awful. Everything's so expensive,
- 1:48Speaker 3: it's packed. It's like butt to hump throughout the whole bar.
- 1:55Speaker 3: You can't get a drink, you can't get food. Everybody
- 1:59Speaker 3: is like either like mad that they're there or going
- 2:02Speaker 3: one thousand miles per hour forward. It's busy. And here's
- 2:09Speaker 3: the part that just drives me crazy. You the party
- 2:12Speaker 3: doesn't start till that ball drops. Really, this is how
- 2:17Speaker 3: much I've gone out on New Year's. It's like it
- 2:20Speaker 3: picks up. I guess that when the ball drops. If
- 2:22Speaker 3: you're not like getting like it'd be. I think both
- 2:26Speaker 3: those nights, you're coming in at like three o'clock in
- 2:28Speaker 3: the morning, which is just outrageous to me. And it's
- 2:31Speaker 3: been outrageous to me, not because I'm thirty six years old.
- 2:34Speaker 3: When I was twenty one years old, it was outrageous
- 2:36Speaker 3: to me that that was a thing in this world
- 2:39Speaker 3: where you would give up a whole next day of
- 2:42Speaker 3: your life for a three hours of more like whatever.
- 2:47Speaker 3: I don't even want to call it fun because it's
- 2:48Speaker 3: not fun to me. Uh So, here's what we're gonna do,
- 2:52Speaker 3: which what we've done. Jessica and I have both very
- 2:56Speaker 3: similar in this manner. We're going to go or cook
- 3:00Speaker 3: in or go out to a great dinner. We're gonna
- 3:03Speaker 3: have a drink, and we're gonna talk about the year.
- 3:05Speaker 3: And this is one of the traditions that we have.
- 3:08Speaker 3: We also on New Year's we have this thing that
- 3:11Speaker 3: I've talked about before where we share our top five
- 3:14Speaker 3: favorite meals from the year. Those can only be two
- 3:17Speaker 3: meals that have been cooked at home. The other three
- 3:19Speaker 3: have to be out like at a dinner. And they
- 3:23Speaker 3: are not based on the best food, but they're based
- 3:26Speaker 3: on not only good food, but the good vibe and
- 3:30Speaker 3: memory and feeling that we had around them. But we
- 3:33Speaker 3: don't share them with each other until we sit down
- 3:35Speaker 3: at dinner. You don't make it.
- 3:38Speaker 4: You just remember the meals.
- 3:41Speaker 3: No, we don't make them. We remember them and we
- 3:43Speaker 3: do our top five and she makes hers and I
- 3:46Speaker 3: make mine, and then we share them with each other.
- 3:49Speaker 3: And so sometimes the two of them align. Sometimes we
- 3:52Speaker 3: have crossovers. Sometimes we don't.
- 3:53Speaker 4: How do you hide each other from the kitchen?
- 3:55Speaker 3: No, we don't make them. These are like meals that
- 3:57Speaker 3: we had previously throughout the year. This could be a
- 4:00Speaker 3: dinner in New York City that we had in February
- 4:03Speaker 3: of this year. This could be the dinner but we
- 4:04Speaker 3: had before the night before Whennie was born. And we
- 4:08Speaker 3: write down, like, oh, this is one of my top
- 4:10Speaker 3: five meals from the year, and we just talk about
- 4:13Speaker 3: the meal. We don't remake it.
- 4:16Speaker 4: You just talk about it.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Okay, we talk about it.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Something I could never do with Jared because he does
- 4:21Speaker 2: not care about food this much.
- 4:23Speaker 4: I would love to do it now. I'm thinking about
- 4:26Speaker 4: it time.
- 4:27Speaker 3: And it's fun because we've done it since two thousand
- 4:31Speaker 3: and eighteen, and so we have this list that goes
- 4:36Speaker 3: back since twenty eighteen of all of our best meals
- 4:39Speaker 3: from the year. Yeah, my parents do it. It's fun,
- 4:44Speaker 3: it's enjoyable, and it gives us these memories to look
- 4:48Speaker 3: back on, Like a lot of those meals were in
- 4:49Speaker 3: Italy when Jess's parents and my parents and Jess and
- 4:52Speaker 3: I went to Italy and that one year we can
- 4:54Speaker 3: look back and say, oh, my goodness, like remember that
- 4:57Speaker 3: dinner and remember that time, and maybe one day we
- 5:00Speaker 3: can go back to that restaurant when we're visiting, if
- 5:03Speaker 3: we're ever visiting that certain area. So that's what we
- 5:05Speaker 3: do on New Year's and then we go to bed.
- 5:07Speaker 3: We watch the ball drop on the East Coast and
- 5:10Speaker 3: we say, hey, happy New Year, I love you, good night.
- 5:14Speaker 3: And that is the best way to do New Year's.
- 5:18Speaker 2: I like it, you know what I do that. This
- 5:21Speaker 2: will be my third year. This is our tradition. Dawson
- 5:24Speaker 2: and I. We get burger king and we sit and
- 5:27Speaker 2: we watch people do the what's the dip? You know
- 5:30Speaker 2: when people are crazy like you would be, they run
- 5:33Speaker 2: in the water the ocean.
- 5:35Speaker 3: Oh, the polar plunge.
- 5:37Speaker 4: The polar plunge. Yeah, we get burger king and we
- 5:39Speaker 4: watch people do the polar plunge from the car.
- 5:42Speaker 3: Oh you don't New.
- 5:43Speaker 4: Year's Day, that's New Year's Day. No, I'm doing it.
- 5:46Speaker 3: I could see Jared doing it.
- 5:50Speaker 2: I could see Jared doing it too, but this has
- 5:53Speaker 2: just been Dawson in my tradition thus far.
- 5:56Speaker 4: Okay, and then Jared.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Loves the jaw the ball drop. He just loves Ryan
- 6:02Speaker 2: Zeacress rocke Andy. Heves like that is his classic nostalgic thing.
- 6:06Speaker 2: So we will probably usually do like dinner out to
- 6:09Speaker 2: We'll go out to dinner but early, be home by nine,
- 6:12Speaker 2: nine thirty. And then last year we stayed up with
- 6:18Speaker 2: we had both boys up at midnight. Don't know how
- 6:21Speaker 2: that happened with Hayden and Dawson. I don't know how
- 6:25Speaker 2: that happened with Dawson, but there they were in bed
- 6:28Speaker 2: with us and it was kind of adorable and I
- 6:30Speaker 2: don't hate it. I don't know that we'll do that
- 6:33Speaker 2: again this year, but you know, if they happened to
- 6:35Speaker 2: be up, then they happen to be up, and that's
- 6:36Speaker 2: totally fine.
- 6:37Speaker 3: I think there's special Like I don't want to say
- 6:39Speaker 3: New Year's is like terrible, because I think there's a
- 6:41Speaker 3: really special ways to do it, and I enjoy my
- 6:44Speaker 3: New Year's now because Jessica knows that if any of
- 6:47Speaker 3: her friends or any of my friends say, hey, we're
- 6:49Speaker 3: throwing a New Year's party, it's just a no, like
- 6:52Speaker 3: we're not.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Really. If it was a friend's house, I would totally
- 6:55Speaker 2: do it, but not like a New Year's Eve party,
- 6:57Speaker 2: but more like a New Year's Eve get together where
- 6:59Speaker 2: you can we're you don't have to wear a skin
- 7:01Speaker 2: by sparklay dress because the thing is it's too cold
- 7:05Speaker 2: for a sparklay dress.
- 7:06Speaker 3: It just is Ashley, I'll be honest with you. This
- 7:11Speaker 3: time of the year is so wonderful for so many reasons.
- 7:14Speaker 3: There's celebrations, there's gatherings, there's work commitments where people get
- 7:19Speaker 3: together to party. All these things and they're wonderful things.
- 7:23Speaker 3: I don't want to not say they're wonderful. I am
- 7:26Speaker 3: an advocate for getting together with people and connecting with
- 7:29Speaker 3: people and sitting with people in person. I think they're fantastic. However,
- 7:33Speaker 3: there is a line where I become over socialized because
- 7:37Speaker 3: most of my life is being out with people at
- 7:41Speaker 3: events and conferences and gatherings. So that's my whole year.
- 7:45Speaker 3: All I want for a day off for me where
- 7:48Speaker 3: I know nobody's working and I'm not going to get
- 7:49Speaker 3: any emails and I'm not going to have to make
- 7:51Speaker 3: any phone calls. All I want at some point in
- 7:54Speaker 3: the year is for there to be no expectations for
- 7:57Speaker 3: me to have to be around anybody other than my family,
- 8:00Speaker 3: because it just doesn't happen very often. So for me,
- 8:03Speaker 3: New Year's is always that excuse where I'm like, everybody's
- 8:06Speaker 3: going to be hungover, everybody's going to be tired, everybody's
- 8:10Speaker 3: getting together. What does that mean for me? I don't
- 8:13Speaker 3: have to.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Do you get mad Sunday scaries like I do after
- 8:28Speaker 2: New Year's is over because you had the whole week off,
- 8:31Speaker 2: and really you and I will have days off for sure,
- 8:35Speaker 2: but like a whole straight week where there's no work
- 8:39Speaker 2: coming up because it's all kind of closed.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a little different for me because I work
- 8:45Speaker 3: the weekends during the holidays because of Generous it's a
- 8:48Speaker 3: big time for us, and so I don't get it. Yeah,
- 8:51Speaker 3: my break is the break after like the first week
- 8:54Speaker 3: of January is when I can out take a break,
- 8:57Speaker 3: and yeah, I definitely will, but I look forward to it,
- 9:01Speaker 3: so that's how I utilize it. It's kind of those
- 9:04Speaker 3: it's like the It's one of those moments for me
- 9:06Speaker 3: where I'm like, I'm going to treat myself and I'm
- 9:08Speaker 3: going to do nothing because that just sounds good, and
- 9:13Speaker 3: I know it sounds good every year. Call me lame Ashley.
- 9:19Speaker 4: No, it's not lame at all.
- 9:20Speaker 3: Like I wouldn't.
- 9:21Speaker 4: I would absolutely do it too.
- 9:22Speaker 3: It works.
- 9:24Speaker 4: You guys should figure out how to have your favorite
- 9:26Speaker 4: meals during your little tradition too.
- 9:29Speaker 3: I'd be good. Some of these are like Michelin Star restaurants.
- 9:32Speaker 3: I don't know how to do that. Besides that, i'd
- 9:35Speaker 3: be smart, though. It'd be fun. Spend the whole day
- 9:38Speaker 3: just cooking up cool, cool stuff. I am it will
- 9:42Speaker 3: be Funhi, it is a wonderful New Year's We wish
- 9:47Speaker 3: you the best in twenty twenty six. Make sure you
- 9:49Speaker 3: go out there and grab your three month gym memberships
- 9:51Speaker 3: that you'll use twice. Make sure that you make all
- 9:55Speaker 3: of your plans for healthy eating. I'm not a New
- 9:59Speaker 3: Year's resolution guy because I.
- 10:00Speaker 4: Just don't keep on Nope, nope, nope.
- 10:03Speaker 3: But here's something fun. Here's my only thing this is
- 10:06Speaker 3: what I do and I don't know yet. Every year
- 10:08Speaker 3: I pick a new word. This year's word was connection,
- 10:13Speaker 3: and twenty twenty six will be a different word, and
- 10:15Speaker 3: I'll kind of pray over it, think about it, look
- 10:18Speaker 3: back at some of my journaling and writing from the year,
- 10:20Speaker 3: and say, okay, what in twenty twenty six is one
- 10:22Speaker 3: word that when I wake up in the morning, I
- 10:25Speaker 3: say it. I don't know what it's going to be,
- 10:29Speaker 3: but that's what I do. And then every I try
- 10:31Speaker 3: to keep it, you know, on top of mind for
- 10:33Speaker 3: the whole year.
- 10:34Speaker 2: I think mine, when you asked me last year, was
- 10:37Speaker 2: present or like enjoying the moment that you're living in. Yeah,
- 10:42Speaker 2: I have been more thoughtful about it, for sure.
- 10:45Speaker 3: Hey, you have been because you've had a big year.
- 10:48Speaker 3: Twenty twenty five has been a big year for you,
- 10:50Speaker 3: full of a lot of different balls tossing in the air.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Yet you are still saying.
- 10:55Speaker 4: Ashley, thanks, I think so. I think that's a good job.
- 11:02Speaker 3: I've told you when I think you're not clicking thanks, Ben,
- 11:07Speaker 3: you're crushing it.
- 11:08Speaker 4: Yeah. So I don't know what am I going to
- 11:11Speaker 4: do this this year? Yeah, let me think about it.
- 11:13Speaker 2: I'll get back to you in the New Year on
- 11:15Speaker 2: that and you do the same with me and your
- 11:18Speaker 2: word and all that. Hey, Ben, before we go, I
- 11:21Speaker 2: do want to say, remember the one New Year's where
- 11:24Speaker 2: we kind of spend it together the New Year's Eve
- 11:27Speaker 2: or we had to wake up at like four point
- 11:29Speaker 2: thirty in the morning on New Year's Day to be
- 11:31Speaker 2: in the Rose Bowl parade together.
- 11:34Speaker 3: That was That was awesome.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Oh.
- 11:35Speaker 4: I got to send.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Her our producer pictures of that. That is so cute,
- 11:41Speaker 2: such a good memory. I just thought, you know, I
- 11:43Speaker 2: was like, oh my god, I'm on a float with
- 11:44Speaker 2: Ben Higgins. Ben Higgins is so cool and such a celebrity,
- 11:47Speaker 2: and I can't believe I've included with this guy.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Yeah, that's I mean, that was a wildly fun day.
- 11:54Speaker 3: It is a day I'll never forget because it was
- 11:56Speaker 3: so magical.
- 11:58Speaker 4: Turn twenty sixty. It was turning twenty sixteen.
- 12:01Speaker 3: Right, probably twenty seventeen.
- 12:03Speaker 2: No, I don't know you were about to be the
- 12:05Speaker 2: twenty sixteen Bachelor.
- 12:07Speaker 3: Oh it was pre bachelor. Yeah, okay, that makes sense.
- 12:11Speaker 4: Well, Ben, look at this, Oh send it. Do you
- 12:15Speaker 4: know what that means?
- 12:16Speaker 2: That'll be ten years this New Year's Day it's been
- 12:20Speaker 2: ten years.
- 12:22Speaker 3: My goosh, oh my god, Ashley.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Goodness, Ben, and that's so crazy. You've been friends for
- 12:28Speaker 2: ten years, for real, for real, Look good us.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Now we're still doing.
- 12:32Speaker 4: It anyway, keep going on and on. You know we're
- 12:34Speaker 4: gonna bore the audience because they weren't there.
- 12:36Speaker 3: We'll make sure to post this picture. Happy New Year
- 12:39Speaker 3: to everybody. Happy twenty twenty six and there are great
- 12:44Speaker 3: things ahead, believe it. Until next time, I've been Ben.
- 12:48Speaker 4: I've been Ashley. See you, guys, Love you.
