- 0:35Speaker 2: you by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers ibe W
- 0:39Speaker 2: Local sixty eight.
- 0:40Speaker 1: You start with a job, you end with a career.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Oh, the road to the top one hundred has begun.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Jeff Legwald joining us. He is in the proximity of
- 0:51Speaker 2: the Senior Ball. This guy's about to get real scouty
- 0:55Speaker 2: out there.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Leggy. How you doing, man, I'm good?
- 0:58Speaker 3: Are you got?
- 0:59Speaker 1: We're doing all right, Leggy? Before we dive into the
- 1:01Speaker 1: Senior Bowl stuff.
- 1:02Speaker 2: I guess there were some football games yesterday of some
- 1:05Speaker 2: consequence that were played. Is it possible to beat those
- 1:12Speaker 2: guys without just playing an absolutely perfect game? Like the
- 1:18Speaker 2: Bills played well, but they didn't play perfect and just
- 1:22Speaker 2: the slightest crack of the door means that Andy Reid
- 1:26Speaker 2: and Mahomes are gonna kick it down and they're going
- 1:29Speaker 2: to win. Like, how in God's name does this just
- 1:32Speaker 2: continue to happen?
- 1:35Speaker 3: Said it?
- 1:36Speaker 5: We said it Friday. You cannot leave it a one
- 1:39Speaker 5: possession game. That I think that's you have to approach
- 1:43Speaker 5: it like, you know, your touchdowns have to be like
- 1:48Speaker 5: nine points, you know what I mean, You got to
- 1:51Speaker 5: you gotta just keep you know, you can't give them
- 1:55Speaker 5: the ball in the last five minutes of a game
- 1:57Speaker 5: with the opportunity to beat you as he is Tom Brady.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Like that, he will beat you.
- 2:03Speaker 5: And he doesn't necessarily need the best receivers or all pros.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Or you know, he's got Kelsey always.
- 2:11Speaker 5: But you know what I'm saying, you know his We've
- 2:13Speaker 5: talked a lot about how they haven't looked good or
- 2:17Speaker 5: you know, they played too many one score games. You know,
- 2:20Speaker 5: I think yesterday was their twelve. You know, it's it's
- 2:24Speaker 5: just you can't give them the opportunity to beat you.
- 2:28Speaker 5: And if that beings somehow being two scores ahead, that's
- 2:32Speaker 5: what it takes.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Leggy, the the the analytical part of your brain and
- 2:38Speaker 2: watching the Chiefs and what they do right now, because
- 2:42Speaker 2: they don't they don't pick up chunk plays. They don't
- 2:47Speaker 2: necessarily even just like ram it down your throat in fact,
- 2:50Speaker 2: and like you know, you know the metric, like they're
- 2:52Speaker 2: a success rate team.
- 2:54Speaker 1: They just they live.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Off of staying ahead of the sticks and nominal execution.
- 3:02Speaker 2: And when you watch it, like is that some code
- 3:05Speaker 2: that that Andy Reid has cracked or is it just
- 3:08Speaker 2: that he has the exact right players to be able
- 3:11Speaker 2: to play that way?
- 3:14Speaker 3: I think both.
- 3:15Speaker 5: You know, if maybe you know, if if Mahomes gets
- 3:18Speaker 5: Philadelphia Andy Reid, maybe it's not as perfect. But I
- 3:22Speaker 5: think time experience playoff disappointments, and and Andy Reid's honesty
- 3:29Speaker 5: is with himself as a coach to say what do
- 3:33Speaker 5: I need to do?
- 3:34Speaker 3: What's the best?
- 3:35Speaker 5: You know, he evolved a little bit and then he's
- 3:38Speaker 5: got the guy and that's you know, I think that's
- 3:42Speaker 5: I think Nick Saban has said many times that he
- 3:47Speaker 5: never coached a bad player to play good, and I think,
- 3:50Speaker 5: you know, you got to have the guy to do that.
- 3:54Speaker 5: Those kinds of things that they do at the level
- 3:56Speaker 5: they do. But I think one thing that strikes me
- 3:59Speaker 5: every time.
- 4:00Speaker 3: I see him.
- 4:00Speaker 5: And I know, you know, locally we don't like talking
- 4:03Speaker 5: about how this. You know, they're good for.
- 4:05Speaker 3: So long, but they're very patient.
- 4:08Speaker 5: They save the good stuff for the exact right time
- 4:12Speaker 5: in the game, whether it's a blitz.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Sending McDuffie off the edge fourth down.
- 4:18Speaker 5: It's just they have a knack, you know, they don't unlook,
- 4:21Speaker 5: they don't like so many teams, including the Broncos, unpacked
- 4:24Speaker 5: the suitcase on the first drive.
- 4:26Speaker 3: You know, it's like, here you go, this is all
- 4:28Speaker 3: this good.
- 4:29Speaker 5: Stuff we have, you know, have at it and they
- 4:34Speaker 5: you know, they're just patient.
- 4:36Speaker 3: They've matched the personnel.
- 4:38Speaker 5: And I've said it before, that's it's basically a draft
- 4:41Speaker 5: built team. And when you draft players and you have success,
- 4:46Speaker 5: both those players are invested in you, in your team,
- 4:51Speaker 5: in your franchise, in your culture. It just is, you know,
- 4:56Speaker 5: von Miller may have played for two other teams since
- 5:00Speaker 5: the Broncos, but in his mind, he's still invested in
- 5:04Speaker 5: the Broncos.
- 5:05Speaker 3: I mean, that's just the way it is. And you know,
- 5:09Speaker 3: you top all of that off with the quarterback.
- 5:12Speaker 5: I mean, he's he's in such rare air if they
- 5:15Speaker 5: win this game. You know, obviously the three peat would
- 5:18Speaker 5: be a first of the super Bowl era, but he
- 5:22Speaker 5: would also be in the Branshaw neighborhood of four super
- 5:26Speaker 5: Bowl wins in six years. He would be in the
- 5:29Speaker 5: Brady neighborhood of you know, three four super Bowl tighter.
- 5:35Speaker 5: You know, at least three titles in your first seven years,
- 5:38Speaker 5: eight years of the league.
- 5:39Speaker 3: That's that's Brady territory. I mean, he's they're in rare air.
- 5:44Speaker 3: If they pull off the win.
- 5:45Speaker 5: Now, it ain't gonna be easy because now they've they've
- 5:48Speaker 5: got a heavyweight across from now.
- 5:52Speaker 4: All right, explain to me how that wasn't a first down?
- 5:57Speaker 4: And how can they better measure whether it is or
- 5:59Speaker 4: not other than because look, Jeff, yeah it's but but
- 6:04Speaker 4: And I'm not getting all over the refs. You got
- 6:06Speaker 4: you got a thousand huge bodies pushing against each other.
- 6:09Speaker 4: There's camera angles everywhere. They make it look like he
- 6:12Speaker 4: made it to where he needed to go. What was
- 6:14Speaker 4: the final decider in that that that wasn't enough for
- 6:17Speaker 4: a first down?
- 6:19Speaker 5: Well, you know, I can only tell you what I've
- 6:21Speaker 5: been told and when I've done pool reports and all
- 6:24Speaker 5: the rest of it. That television doesn't have all the
- 6:29Speaker 5: angles that the officials do. I've always been told that.
- 6:33Speaker 5: I don't know if it's true. I've not stood in
- 6:37Speaker 5: the uh you know, I've not had a chance to
- 6:39Speaker 5: be in the replay booth in New York.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Or on site to see if that's actually true.
- 6:45Speaker 5: But it's always what I've been told, that there are
- 6:48Speaker 5: angles we don't get on television. I find that hard
- 6:52Speaker 5: to believe, but that's what I've been told. And you know, look,
- 6:55Speaker 5: they they hold major tennis tournaments with no lines people
- 6:59Speaker 5: now because they have lasers and hawkeye and all the
- 7:03Speaker 5: rest of it that you know, the technology is out there,
- 7:06Speaker 5: but the league is is that that's one place they've
- 7:10Speaker 5: not been willing to go, and no one really has
- 7:13Speaker 5: a good answer for as to why.
- 7:16Speaker 3: But the technology does exist. I mean, they got.
- 7:20Speaker 5: Cameras and the pylons right at the goal line and
- 7:23Speaker 5: all the rest of it, and they do on the
- 7:25Speaker 5: first down markers. But you know, again, to me, if
- 7:29Speaker 5: they can have you know, the Australian Open tennis tournament
- 7:34Speaker 5: with no lines people because the lasers, you know, the
- 7:37Speaker 5: hawk gys handling the business, I think that would work
- 7:40Speaker 5: in the NFL.
- 7:42Speaker 4: And by the way, I want to make it clear,
- 7:43Speaker 4: I mean Josh Allen had to play to James Cook
- 7:45Speaker 4: where he could make the throw. James Cook runs for
- 7:48Speaker 4: who knows how far if he does so. I'm not
- 7:50Speaker 4: putting this all on one four it down, but it
- 7:52Speaker 4: is frustrating to have yet any other call kind of
- 7:54Speaker 4: be part of the storyline of this thing. And then
- 7:56Speaker 4: there's the catch, and the catch was weird the dual
- 7:59Speaker 4: possession or did it at the ground or whatever. I
- 8:01Speaker 4: think we're getting used to some catch being contested. I
- 8:04Speaker 4: do want to ask you this, though, Jeff, I mean,
- 8:08Speaker 4: you go back with you always.
- 8:10Speaker 5: You know Andy, you know this. For centuries, we've always
- 8:13Speaker 5: felt like the good teams get all the calls. That's
- 8:15Speaker 5: just the way it is.
- 8:16Speaker 4: Well and again, they made all the plays. They continue
- 8:19Speaker 4: to make all the plays. They get a field goal,
- 8:21Speaker 4: and a field goal holds up, and like you said,
- 8:23Speaker 4: they're bringing blitz at the right time. Kansas City's just
- 8:25Speaker 4: that good. It makes me puke in my mouth, but
- 8:27Speaker 4: it is. How about Josh Allen, how does he get
- 8:30Speaker 4: over this? Have you ever come in an athlete that's
- 8:32Speaker 4: had to face this, because even what mating lost twice
- 8:35Speaker 4: in the playoffs before he finally beat Brady. But he
- 8:37Speaker 4: did finally beat Brady. Like they were talking about it
- 8:39Speaker 4: all over ESPN today. We have never seen one quarterback
- 8:43Speaker 4: own another quarterback four and oher in the playoffs. How
- 8:47Speaker 4: does Josh keep like? How does how do he keep
- 8:49Speaker 4: coming back for more? If you're Josh Allen.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Well, you know, part of the reason we haven't seen
- 8:54Speaker 3: it is this is the first time the number two
- 8:57Speaker 3: in the AFC has been so clearly the you know,
- 9:00Speaker 3: Burrow hasn't been able to get his swings at it
- 9:04Speaker 3: like Alan has.
- 9:05Speaker 5: Alan's team has been better, their organization's been better. So
- 9:10Speaker 5: it's kind of this weird confluence of things that makes him,
- 9:16Speaker 5: you know, the other guy so many times already because
- 9:20Speaker 5: you know, nobody else can get their act together enough.
- 9:24Speaker 3: To get a crack at it. But you know, I
- 9:26Speaker 3: was around the Bills.
- 9:28Speaker 5: I covered the Bills at the end of their run,
- 9:30Speaker 5: you know, and Jim Kelly had not one in four
- 9:33Speaker 5: consecutive cracks at the Super Bowl. And it does weigh
- 9:38Speaker 5: I told I said Friday, there there is an inherent
- 9:41Speaker 5: pressure in that town, and I don't think players can
- 9:46Speaker 5: simply ignore it. There's no way to avoid it, and
- 9:51Speaker 5: it will weigh on you at some point because guys
- 9:54Speaker 5: like playing there. That fan base is different. It is,
- 9:59Speaker 5: it's still he's got a different vibe. Ah, it's it's
- 10:03Speaker 5: almost like Green Bay and it's and it's sort of
- 10:07Speaker 5: cultural texture of where the team fits in the city,
- 10:12Speaker 5: you know. And I think that's gonna weigh on players.
- 10:17Speaker 5: And no more, you know, no player will have more
- 10:21Speaker 5: weight with that than Josh Allen And uh, you know,
- 10:26Speaker 5: I just don't think he got enough help. And I
- 10:29Speaker 5: just I don't know why they coaches continually go away
- 10:33Speaker 5: from things that are working.
- 10:34Speaker 3: It's like they don't want to have it be too
- 10:37Speaker 3: good for too long.
- 10:38Speaker 5: I just I live in the Shanahan world, where you know,
- 10:42Speaker 5: he would just say until they stop it, just keep
- 10:45Speaker 5: doing it. But James Cook should not have that few
- 10:48Speaker 5: carries in the first half. You keep building the lead,
- 10:53Speaker 5: you keep the ball, you do everything you need to
- 10:55Speaker 5: do if you just stick with that a little.
- 10:58Speaker 1: More six and a half yards carry. And he only
- 11:00Speaker 1: carried the ball thirteen times in that game.
- 11:03Speaker 5: I can't I can't wrap my It happens every week
- 11:08Speaker 5: in the NFL, Like you know, it's I'm I'm don
- 11:11Speaker 5: Quixote in the windmill.
- 11:13Speaker 3: I just don't get it.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Uh, he's our Sancho Panza, everybody, He's Jeff Legwald with
- 11:19Speaker 2: us here on a Monday afternoon, all right, like you,
- 11:22Speaker 2: let's talk about the other side of the bracket. Uh.
- 11:25Speaker 2: The Philadelphia Eagles just big boy the hell out of
- 11:27Speaker 2: the Manders yesterday. Again, Washington made the mistakes and when
- 11:32Speaker 2: they did, Philadelphia absolutely punish them. I rewatched the game
- 11:37Speaker 2: today and the thing that struck me was how well
- 11:41Speaker 2: Jalen Hurts played in that game yesterday, both both running
- 11:45Speaker 2: the football, operating outside of the pocket, and then twenty
- 11:49Speaker 2: to twenty eight for two forty six, like his best
- 11:52Speaker 2: passing game in quite some time. If the Eagles can
- 11:57Speaker 2: put that together with with Hurts playing in that way
- 12:00Speaker 2: and with Saquon doing the thing, is that enough to
- 12:03Speaker 2: overcome the dark magic of Mahomes and Reid.
- 12:07Speaker 5: Yeah, get up two scores. Yeah, going to the last
- 12:10Speaker 5: five minutes of the game. Up two scores and take
- 12:12Speaker 5: your crack. But when the Jalen Hurts has a very
- 12:17Speaker 5: definite line of demarcation, when he gets the ball out
- 12:21Speaker 5: of his hand and under three, he's a far different quarterback.
- 12:26Speaker 5: And if he can get that number down to two
- 12:28Speaker 5: five and even under that, he's a far different quarterback.
- 12:32Speaker 3: And that's the one thing I took away yesterday.
- 12:35Speaker 5: And look, we said Friday, turnovers will kill you if
- 12:38Speaker 5: you're Washington, and you know twenty one points off turnovers,
- 12:42Speaker 5: and the one before the half, that's that's a playoff
- 12:45Speaker 5: you know, backbreaker.
- 12:46Speaker 3: You know that you just can't have those in a
- 12:49Speaker 3: playoff game. But when it hurts.
- 12:50Speaker 5: Moves the ball and gets it out of his hand,
- 12:53Speaker 5: it's a totally different offense.
- 12:56Speaker 3: And the people who have succeeded have made him hold it,
- 13:00Speaker 3: have pinned him in there and made them hold the ball.
- 13:03Speaker 5: And that's what you gotta do because that that is
- 13:05Speaker 5: a gold gym team. They come out just to flex
- 13:08Speaker 5: on you and shove you around and see if you
- 13:12Speaker 5: can hold up.
- 13:14Speaker 3: And not many people do.
- 13:16Speaker 5: I mean that that goal line sequence was comical. I
- 13:19Speaker 5: mean they almost that's a very little known rule, but
- 13:22Speaker 5: it does exist. And they almost simply awarded a touchdown
- 13:26Speaker 5: because they were tired of penalties.
- 13:28Speaker 1: But that here's what annoys me about that rule though.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Did this drive you guys nuts when they're just like well,
- 13:32Speaker 2: if this behavior continues, we may have to award it.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Yeah, where's the line.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Shouldn't there be a like a specific line of demarcation
- 13:39Speaker 2: of when the penalty dry.
- 13:43Speaker 3: Welcome to the la, Welcome to the rule book. It's like, uh,
- 13:47Speaker 3: you know, whenever he feels like it. But he sounded
- 13:50Speaker 3: it sounded like such a substitute teacher. Behavior continues. Hey,
- 13:55Speaker 3: I got to ask you.
- 13:56Speaker 4: This is not really a big picture thing, but you
- 13:58Speaker 4: you like fake punts? Yeah, that was the most Like
- 14:01Speaker 4: I thought that was the most technically difficult fake punt pass?
- 14:07Speaker 3: Leggy?
- 14:07Speaker 1: What do you think of that? I was like, Wow,
- 14:10Speaker 1: I mean that was like it. That was you needed
- 14:11Speaker 1: almost like a real throw on that one.
- 14:13Speaker 4: That wasn't just some guy off in space and don't
- 14:17Speaker 4: mess up an easy pass because no one was around him.
- 14:19Speaker 4: He had a dude in trail.
- 14:21Speaker 1: That must be.
- 14:21Speaker 4: That might have been the most impressive fake punt pass
- 14:23Speaker 4: I've ever seen.
- 14:24Speaker 5: And then out of it there ask a lot of
- 14:28Speaker 5: tressway on that playable.
- 14:30Speaker 4: Yeah, all right, did you drink hold on the Leggy's
- 14:33Speaker 4: down there? Hey, Leggy, anybody in mobile we need to
- 14:36Speaker 4: keep our ears open for who are you most excited
- 14:38Speaker 4: to go peep eyes in.
- 14:40Speaker 5: You know, it's an interesting group of qbs because the
- 14:44Speaker 5: class is very top heavy, you know, the top two guys,
- 14:48Speaker 5: and they're a huge gap, and you know, somebody's getting
- 14:52Speaker 5: picked in the first round beyond the two quarterbacks, beyond
- 14:55Speaker 5: the top two quarterbacks, and they the guy's here can make.
- 15:00Speaker 3: A lot of hay and find their way, you know,
- 15:04Speaker 3: into that mix.
- 15:06Speaker 5: Uh, I think, because I find it hard to believe
- 15:08Speaker 5: only two quarterbacks are going in the first round of
- 15:10Speaker 5: a draft, but there's an enormous gap between Shadour, you know,
- 15:16Speaker 5: and and and the rest of these guys.
- 15:19Speaker 3: So uh, and this is an interesting group down here.
- 15:22Speaker 3: But we got uh, grab Leggy, we feel you fight info.
- 15:30Speaker 3: I'm three for us. But now you got on the
- 15:37Speaker 3: same team.
- 15:38Speaker 5: They did this when the Broncos were the staff here,
- 15:41Speaker 5: when Baker Mayfield is here and Jock Allen, but they
- 15:44Speaker 5: have stacked.
- 15:45Speaker 3: The one team.
- 15:46Speaker 5: Jackson Dark, Jalen Milroe, and Riley Leonard are all on
- 15:51Speaker 5: the same team here. So obviously people have want to
- 15:55Speaker 5: see these guys grouped together. It's like when they put
- 15:57Speaker 5: Pennix and bow Knicks together last year here.
- 16:01Speaker 3: So uh.
- 16:02Speaker 5: But That's what I'm really intrigued about because dark Dark's
- 16:05Speaker 5: an interesting prospect because he played in such a funky
- 16:08Speaker 5: offense and old Miss. But he's a big guy who
- 16:12Speaker 5: can really sling it and I think if he can
- 16:14Speaker 5: show like traditional dropback skills here, uh he he could
- 16:19Speaker 5: be the mover in this group.
- 16:21Speaker 4: Mmm.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Good stuff to keep an eye out.
- 16:24Speaker 4: They're addicting that that Dart will be the one everyone falls.
- 16:26Speaker 1: In love with.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Six Big Sills two yeah mm hmmm uh Leggy, last thing.
- 16:33Speaker 4: Ain't no Bracasweiler six eight.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Leggy, Who the hell is Declan Doyle.
- 16:39Speaker 2: That?
- 16:39Speaker 3: You know? That's a nice promotion, No kidding?
- 16:43Speaker 5: A group who death had very little production for two years,
- 16:46Speaker 5: so I'm not sure, but that's you know, coaches go
- 16:49Speaker 5: with who's recommended, you know, who gives him the right
- 16:54Speaker 5: you know sort of reference. They they roll with it,
- 16:57Speaker 5: and sometimes I think they don't even look as as
- 17:00Speaker 5: to what happened. But you know, more power to him, baby,
- 17:03Speaker 5: he's you know, that's a great promotion. And you're gonna
- 17:07Speaker 5: get a little runway, you know, in a rebuild, so
- 17:10Speaker 5: you're not gonna you're not gonna have to like you know,
- 17:13Speaker 5: uncork unbelievable seasons and you're not the play callers, so
- 17:17Speaker 5: you really gotta this is a game that's a game
- 17:20Speaker 5: planning position.
- 17:21Speaker 3: With the Bears. You know, he's he's in charge of
- 17:23Speaker 3: getting the details right. So the head coach can be
- 17:26Speaker 3: the head coach.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Hey is it he old?
- 17:28Speaker 3: Who is the guy outing? Is that?
- 17:30Speaker 4: Or he just basically is outing under our guy?
- 17:33Speaker 1: Right?
