- Greg: Welcome, it is Monday, May 18th. I'm your host, Greg Miller, and this is Beliefs, Ballots and Bets. Today we're going to talk about the sacred mundane, how we can turn our day-to-day task into opportunities for worship by just working for Christ in all that we do and not for the applause of the world around us. We're going to look at a couple of small things we can do to reframe our approach to things to hopefully lead to some durable change. The word of the day in the scripture verses Colossians chapter three verses 23 and 24 tells us whatever you do, work at it with all of your heart as working for the Lord and not for human masters. Since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward, it is the Lord Christ you are serving. ⁓ It's simply asking us to put Christ first in all that we do in our ordinary work, our daily chores, everything we do can have divine worth as we can serve Him in all things. We find a tendency sometimes, we often like to kind of split life into and compartmentalize our life into the sacred, our church time, our prayer time, our Bible time, our faith time. And then we separate that from our secular time where we're working. leading task, running errands, whatever it is. And Paul here is basically telling us to try to collapse that divide and that all tasks, everything we do should be done with all of our heart as if it is ultimately an act of service to Christ, not to human supervisors or whatever metrics you're being judged by. This reorientation, putting him back at the center of all things. It changes our motive. changes our posture. It gives us a ⁓ greater sense of resilience to get through some of those mundane things. You know, we tend to kind of rush through some of the menial jobs to get to the next thing. Just check off the box, get approval, say you did it, get whatever visible results you need or whatever. And then everything just becomes spiritually irrelevant. the result of that is we're not fulfilled. We're exhausted and we have this brittle identity because none of what we do is really true to our core. And this often creates a scenario where we just routinely miss opportunities to embody His love and to embrace that feeling that comes from putting Him at the center of all things. You know, before you before you start a task, just just a simple task. It can be anything you do each and every day. Just say quietly, Lord, I do this for you, Lord. Let let me do this in a way that glorifies you or honors you. Identify the person that you're working for, that you're looking to serve, whether it's a client, a child, a neighbor or whoever. and name Christ as your ultimate boss. Say, Lord, I'm going to help this person as a way to glorify you or to honor you. And this will kind of reorient your motives and help you continue to make sure you're doing things for the right reason. And then sometimes after you complete a task, know, after you have finished something at work or finished something off your checklist, you know, say, Lord, I offer this to you. Please use it for good, Lord. I have done what you've called me to do. Please use this. And this turns your completions of some everyday basic acts into ⁓ an act of worship and creates a feeling of stewardship that can benefit you down the road. You know, when frustration... creeps in and we feel that sense of comparison and when we feel pulled in all these different directions, just recall the promise that God makes and what Paul is telling us here that your work is seen by Christ. All that we do is seen by him and we'll receive its due one day. You know, say to yourself, I serve Christ. That shifts the focus from the immediate praise and the things of this world that we're trying to get those dopamine hits and whatnot. And to remember that ultimately the everlasting reward is what we're after and that all we do is seen by him. Our society and our economy reward this instant visibility and hot takes and all these things, likes and metrics and at work, it's titles and performance bonuses and all this just breeds ⁓ a self-worth that is based off performative things and... worldly metrics and that's going to lead to a spiritual burnout because none of that stuff is going to sustain you long term. Colossians is telling us to kind of flip that ledger here to where everything we do, our primary audience is Christ, not algorithms and applause from here on this earth. So, you know, this week maybe Maybe pick one thing you do, one kind of hustle thing that you do. can be something you're proud of. It can be something, an accomplishment at work that maybe you would normally like to brag on or make a social media post to highlight. But instead of doing that, instead of putting it out there for public consumption and public applause, just practice the Lord-facing approach and just say, Lord, I give this to you. This is not for the crowd. This is for Christ. Because what we have to remember is when we, when we, when we shape and when we recenter that, that sense of worth and peace that, that, that, puts us in a position to where we can truly embody and embrace the feeling of all things being done for him. All right, guys, let's get to the, to the car today. We got four baseball plays. ⁓ we didn't have a, didn't have a good day Friday. Our last day of posted plays, we were one in three. ⁓ I believe the record's still pretty strong though over the last week, week and a half. Today we got three plays, actually four plays on the books. We've got the Braves money line, minus 110. We've got the Blue Jays plus one and a half. I got that at minus 120. The Twins money line, minus 115. And the Giants money line, minus 120. So those are the four plays today and hopefully we'll get back on track and have a winning day. So as we wrap up and as we get ready to close out guys, let's, the apostle Paul in the epistle here for Colossians, it's basically just trying to help us reframe everyday work as a service to Christ. So try that Lord facing start to whatever, when you're gonna get into something, before you start something, immediately give that to God, say I'm gonna do this in a way that glorifies you. or after completion of something, instead of you trying to seek the glory or the recognition, give that to Him. Say, Lord, I want to honor you with this. And remember that ultimately, all that we do is for Him and His glory. As always, guys, get in your Bible, say your prayers, love one another, and tell the truth. God bless.
