- 2:56Speaker 7: because it is Friday, our good friend, Angie Gillenwater from
- 2:59Speaker 7: the Cannaal Charleston New Association with this week's Adopt Me
- 3:01Speaker 7: Please Pet of the Week. Angie, good morning, Welcome to
- 3:05Speaker 7: the show.
- 3:06Speaker 8: Good morning, even though it's kind of dreary.
- 3:09Speaker 7: It is kind of dreary, and that's the first thing
- 3:10Speaker 7: I wanted to ask you about is you know, we
- 3:12Speaker 7: got high water issues around the valley here, and I
- 3:16Speaker 7: know that you folks have struggled with that sort of
- 3:18Speaker 7: thing up on Greenbriar Street.
- 3:20Speaker 5: Everything okay up here this morning, so.
- 3:23Speaker 8: Far, so good. We took some precautionary measures yesterday and
- 3:26Speaker 8: any dogs that we're in what we call the danger
- 3:29Speaker 8: zone where the water gets fairly high, we went ahead
- 3:31Speaker 8: and move them up to higher waters or higher at
- 3:34Speaker 8: ground temporarily, so hopefully we stay that way.
- 3:38Speaker 7: Well, it's we certainly hope that, and we hope that
- 3:41Speaker 7: we can also get you guys at a new home
- 3:43Speaker 7: at some point so you don't have to deal with
- 3:45Speaker 7: this every time that we get more than a couple
- 3:47Speaker 7: of inches of rain.
- 3:49Speaker 8: Yeah, we're packing our boxes. We're ready to go to.
- 3:52Speaker 7: I can imagine. All right, let's talk about our adopt
- 3:55Speaker 7: me please pet of the week. Her name is Melanie.
- 3:57Speaker 7: Melanie's picture has always posted on my social media. It's
- 4:00Speaker 7: on Dave Allen Radio and at Dave A seventy on
- 4:02Speaker 7: ex a Beautiful Dog.
- 4:04Speaker 5: Tell us all about Melanie.
- 4:07Speaker 8: So I'm bringing Melanie this week. She's a four month
- 4:09Speaker 8: old puppy that's been in our care since January. And
- 4:12Speaker 8: when I figured that out, I mean, it's so hard
- 4:15Speaker 8: to believe, because it's super unusual for a puppy to
- 4:18Speaker 8: stay with us that long. But Melanie, she's fully vaccinated.
- 4:23Speaker 8: She's great with dogs of all shapes, all sizes, all colors,
- 4:27Speaker 8: all breedes. She does great with everybody, and I where
- 4:31Speaker 8: she is still a puppy. I don't see her having
- 4:33Speaker 8: any issues with cats either.
- 4:35Speaker 7: And you told me her story. There were how many
- 4:39Speaker 7: of these siblings that because that they were abandoned on
- 4:41Speaker 7: I think were dropped off on someone's porch. Tell them
- 4:43Speaker 7: to tell us a story, and how many of them
- 4:45Speaker 7: were there?
- 4:46Speaker 8: So there were five puppies abandoned on somebody's porch. She
- 4:50Speaker 8: got them to us. We name them all after the
- 4:53Speaker 8: spice girls. So they were a little small when they
- 4:57Speaker 8: first got to us. They went to foster care for
- 4:59Speaker 8: about a week to fosters took great care of I'm
- 5:02Speaker 8: got am big and strong, ready for an option, and
- 5:05Speaker 8: everybody has been adopted, but for Melody.
- 5:08Speaker 5: And what kind of dogs they were we talking about here?
- 5:11Speaker 8: So all of them were solid black. Some of them
- 5:14Speaker 8: had like white patches on their chests, but all of
- 5:18Speaker 8: them were solid black. I would say that they're going
- 5:20Speaker 8: to be just large mixed breeds, but yeah, they all
- 5:23Speaker 8: look the exact name as well.
- 5:24Speaker 7: Well, she's a beautiful dog, I mean, And again I
- 5:27Speaker 7: urge you to go over to my Facebook page Steve
- 5:30Speaker 7: Allen Radio on Facebook or at dave A seventy on
- 5:32Speaker 7: x the artists formally known as Twitter, and you can
- 5:35Speaker 7: check out the pictures because Melanie is absolutely a beautiful dog.
- 5:39Speaker 7: And you know, shout out to some of you folks
- 5:41Speaker 7: from the nineties that you named them after members of
- 5:43Speaker 7: the Spice Girls.
- 5:45Speaker 8: The Yeah, our person that named them also named the
- 5:49Speaker 8: puppies that were named after all the nineties wrestlers as well.
- 5:52Speaker 7: Okay, okay, all right, all right, so let's we'll get
- 5:57Speaker 7: back to Melody in the moment. How are the numbers
- 5:58Speaker 7: looking up there, Angie.
- 6:00Speaker 8: Uh, we're back to you being very critical capacity this
- 6:04Speaker 8: time on everything, cats, kittens, puppies, adult dogs, everywhere. We
- 6:10Speaker 8: need help, right on time.
- 6:14Speaker 9: Right on budget.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Come on, cheri'sn chuction.
- 6:28Speaker 7: It is nine twenty big Ley Piggly Wiggly Hotline three

- 6:33Speaker 7: the Taylor Text three zero four nine three five five
- 6:36Speaker 7: zero zero eight. But Ave Allen Show and five eighty
- 6:38Speaker 7: Live brought to you in part by Bridge Valley offering
- 6:40Speaker 7: custom tailor training supplies, killed graduates and apprenticeships for your company.
- 6:44Speaker 7: Visit Bridge Valley dot edu. And I understand we're having
- 6:46Speaker 7: some transmission issues this morning. When you have this stormy
- 6:49Speaker 7: weather like we've gotten, it's gonna happen, and we are
- 6:53Speaker 7: aware and they're they're working on it. I know there's
- 6:55Speaker 7: issues with the app. I understand it's also down. So
- 6:59Speaker 7: hope full of eight people are able to hear me.
- 7:01Speaker 7: If not, well, I'll just entertain myself. I'll sing. That'll
- 7:04Speaker 7: get people to call him. Uh So, big event going
- 7:08Speaker 7: on up in Morgantown tomorrow. And I want to welcome
- 7:10Speaker 7: to the show mouth and their legend. Avon Coburn, Good morning,
- 7:13Speaker 7: Welcome to the show, sir.
- 7:15Speaker 10: My friend, thank you for having us, Thank you for
- 7:16Speaker 10: having me, and then introduce your guests.
- 7:18Speaker 11: So with me today is my dance partner Natalie Robinson
- 7:22Speaker 11: from well Point, West, Virginia. She is the my liaison
- 7:26Speaker 11: to this United Way Dancing with the Stars.
- 7:29Speaker 7: Explain what it is that you're doing with this Dancing
- 7:32Speaker 7: with the Stars, because I mean it's a huge event
- 7:34Speaker 7: every year. Uh why did you decide to get involved
- 7:37Speaker 7: in this?
- 7:37Speaker 10: Well?
- 7:37Speaker 11: I decided because I'm from Camden, New Jersey. You're from
- 7:40Speaker 11: Camp New Jersey. Not not with a whole lot and
- 7:43Speaker 11: these type of organizations, you know, United Way, YMCA, y W,
- 7:48Speaker 11: those type of organization, So those nonprofits always give back
- 7:51Speaker 11: to those that don't have access. And I wanted to
- 7:55Speaker 11: be able to put my foot and in this and
- 7:57Speaker 11: see see how much.
- 7:58Speaker 5: Access access we can give. Now, are you a good dancer?
- 8:02Speaker 5: Fantastic dance?
- 8:02Speaker 7: Okay, all right, because not everybody that says they can
- 8:05Speaker 7: dance can dance, But you're saying you can dance fantastic?
- 8:09Speaker 5: Is he a good dancer?
- 8:10Speaker 12: I will say his footboss skills did transfer to the
- 8:13Speaker 12: dance floor. So we are grateful for that, okay.
- 8:15Speaker 7: Because sometimes, I mean with a lot of athletes, there
- 8:18Speaker 7: are a lot of similarities between the two. You know
- 8:20Speaker 7: that if you can get the fancy footwork on the field,
- 8:23Speaker 7: you can have it on.
- 8:24Speaker 5: The dance floor.
- 8:25Speaker 7: I guess right, tell us about you about Evon's partner,
- 8:28Speaker 7: Go ahead, sure.
- 8:28Speaker 12: I'm Natalie Robinson. I am the whole Health director for
- 8:31Speaker 12: well Point West Virginia, and I also serve on the
- 8:34Speaker 12: United Way Board, so I see firsthand the impact that
- 8:38Speaker 12: these dollars make on our community. Just last year alone,
- 8:42Speaker 12: they served one hundred lives. And that's just not a number, right.
- 8:46Speaker 12: Those are families, those are children, seniors, our neighbors, and
- 8:51Speaker 12: so it's a big deal to raise the money for this.
- 8:54Speaker 12: And it's not just about dancing. It's about, you know,
- 8:57Speaker 12: using that joy to fuel fuel the community to raise
- 9:00Speaker 12: this money for people in need.
- 9:02Speaker 5: I want to talk.
- 9:03Speaker 7: I want to go to you and talk a little
- 9:04Speaker 7: bit about your your playing career up in Morgantown. You
- 9:07Speaker 7: mentioned you came from Campden, New Jersey. Talk about arriving
- 9:10Speaker 7: on campus for the first time in Morgantown.
- 9:13Speaker 11: I was excited because I was away from home. But
- 9:16Speaker 11: at the same time, it was, uh, it was. It
- 9:18Speaker 11: was a little different because you wasn't surrounded by, you know,
- 9:21Speaker 11: the people that love you. You know, you want surrounded
- 9:24Speaker 11: by your your surroundings that you're used to. So Morgantown
- 9:28Speaker 11: was was a little bit different for me. But at
- 9:30Speaker 11: the same time, I felt I felt like it was
- 9:33Speaker 11: comforting because even though there weren't a lot of people.
- 9:36Speaker 5: That that I know, but there were about five people
- 9:38Speaker 5: from a.
- 9:39Speaker 11: High school on the team, so it made it it
- 9:41Speaker 11: made it seem like homeless, but you.
- 9:42Speaker 5: Got to know everybody.
- 9:43Speaker 7: And I mean, you've become a big part of West
- 9:46Speaker 7: Virginia because if I'm wrong, you can grant me you
- 9:50Speaker 7: live here, right you are? Yeah, I mean so it's
- 9:53Speaker 7: not often in the world of college sports that people
- 9:57Speaker 7: that go play wherever they go play decide to stay
- 10:00Speaker 7: where they where they had their career. What was it
- 10:03Speaker 7: about Morgan about West Virginia. I should say that that
- 10:06Speaker 7: said I want to I want to make my life here.
- 10:09Speaker 10: So one the first thing is my wife is from
- 10:12Speaker 10: West Virginia.
- 10:13Speaker 11: She's from Charleston actually, and we were actually living in
- 10:17Speaker 11: Canada and I was just I was tired of football.
- 10:20Speaker 11: I was trying to trying to do something different, and
- 10:24Speaker 11: I told my wife, I said, you know, let's let's
- 10:26Speaker 11: go back to Charleston, because one, we have some help
- 10:29Speaker 11: with with her parents. You know, when we want to
- 10:31Speaker 11: go on a date, it's it's easy to drop them
- 10:33Speaker 11: off with the grandparents and they welcome it. But two,
- 10:37Speaker 11: you know, I had a good name. I have a
- 10:40Speaker 11: good name. I mean, I've done the things correctly. I
- 10:42Speaker 11: haven't made those mistakes that some athletes make. And West
- 10:46Speaker 11: Virginia just show so much love, like it is just
- 10:49Speaker 11: one of those places I don't I don't know, you
- 10:52Speaker 11: know any other place. I mean, I've played in Detroit,
- 10:54Speaker 11: I've played in Miami, I played in Canada and.
- 10:58Speaker 5: All of those places.
- 10:59Speaker 11: You know, when I come back here, people are are
- 11:01Speaker 11: always still happy to hear from me or.
- 11:03Speaker 7: Receiving Yeah, and they kind of we do that in
- 11:05Speaker 7: West Virginia. We kind of adopt people, you know. And
- 11:08Speaker 7: the old saying has heard a lot of people say this,
- 11:10Speaker 7: and I'm not sure who came up with it. I'm
- 11:12Speaker 7: not from here, but I got here as quick as
- 11:13Speaker 7: I could. You know, you decided to stay here. So
- 11:15Speaker 7: let's talk about this event that you got going on,
- 11:18Speaker 7: because tomorrow up in Morgantown, it's the they don't call
- 11:22Speaker 7: it the Spring Game anymore. It's the Blue and Gold Showcase,
- 11:25Speaker 7: I think, or something that Blue Cold Showcase. So you
- 11:28Speaker 7: decide to put together an opportunity for people that are
- 11:31Speaker 7: going up and hopefully the.
- 11:32Speaker 5: Weather will be a little bit better than what it is.
- 11:34Speaker 7: Now, but to hang out with some mountaineer legends. Talk
- 11:36Speaker 7: about that, Yeah I did, I did so. So the
- 11:38Speaker 7: goal the goal is to is to give people access. Again,
- 11:42Speaker 7: That's that's kind of like my theme is access I
- 11:44Speaker 7: want to have. I wanted to get everybody access.
- 11:46Speaker 11: But and doing that, I wanted to make sure that
- 11:50Speaker 11: it was it was to the point where we are
- 11:52Speaker 11: we're helping and and we're able to give back to
- 11:57Speaker 11: the community, and you know, like Natalie said, you know
- 12:00Speaker 11: we are you know, United Way has helped over one
- 12:03Speaker 11: hundred thousand people last year. So so when doing that,
- 12:07Speaker 11: this is a great springboard to help people get back.
- 12:10Speaker 11: But then also people that love the sport donate a
- 12:13Speaker 11: little bit. I mean, it's it's where the tickets are
- 12:15Speaker 11: one hundred and fifty bucks. But who's going to be there.
- 12:18Speaker 5: Uh. I'm kind of mad at him.
- 12:20Speaker 11: But Grant Willy just just called me the other day
- 12:22Speaker 11: and said he's coming, And I asked him like a
- 12:24Speaker 11: month ago and he's like, yeah, I'm coming. So I'm
- 12:27Speaker 11: upset him, but he said he was going to be there.
- 12:29Speaker 11: Quincy Wilson's going to be there. Coach Bob Huggins. Huggins
- 12:32Speaker 11: is going to be there. Angel Stratt is going to
- 12:35Speaker 11: be there. It's one of my best friends. Lance Fraser
- 12:39Speaker 11: is going to be there. We call him ETO. So
- 12:40Speaker 11: if you you guys don't know who Lance Fraser or
- 12:43Speaker 11: when you see Lance Fraders, just call him ETO, you know, noted, noted. Yeah,
- 12:47Speaker 11: and uh, Tory Johnson is going to be there. He's
- 12:50Speaker 11: got a son that's on the team, and he's got
- 12:53Speaker 11: another son that's like a five star recruit who's you.
- 12:55Speaker 5: Know, hopefully we get him too, But he's going to
- 12:57Speaker 5: be there.
- 12:59Speaker 10: Uh.
- 13:00Speaker 5: Dussey Quincy, he's going to be there. Jos is gonna
- 13:03Speaker 5: be there. Jo is gonna be there.
- 13:05Speaker 7: He's a regular on the show. Brian and I've done
- 13:07Speaker 7: several charity events together in the past, and Brian and
- 13:09Speaker 7: I become really good friends, and man, you talk about
- 13:12Speaker 7: a larger than life personality. I mean Josiak what Josiak
- 13:16Speaker 7: was when he was playing in the early eighties and
- 13:17Speaker 7: we all still remember the mohawk and the whole deal.
- 13:20Speaker 7: And he has done really well for himself. He's like you,
- 13:24Speaker 7: he's not a West Virginia guy, but he kind of adopted.
- 13:27Speaker 7: I think he lives in Florida most of and now.
- 13:29Speaker 5: But man, what a super individual. Joid.
- 13:32Speaker 11: Yeah, Joe's he you know, he does the josephe Kids.
- 13:35Speaker 11: I think it's in July every year. And he actually
- 13:39Speaker 11: donated around a golf for for us to auction off
- 13:43Speaker 11: for this event as well. So you know, Joe's to
- 13:46Speaker 11: stand up. I mean, he's a mountaineer. He's a mountainer
- 13:49Speaker 11: through and through.
- 13:50Speaker 7: Now, so where is the event taking place tomorrow? So
- 13:52Speaker 7: it's going to be in touchdown terrace.
- 13:54Speaker 11: We're gonna have food, drinks, everything is going to be available,
- 13:57Speaker 11: and you get you know, it's supposed to be like
- 13:59Speaker 11: ninety degree, so it's going to be air conditioned even
- 14:03Speaker 11: if it's raining. You know, you have you have cover
- 14:05Speaker 11: that way, So it's gonna be in touchdown terrors and
- 14:08Speaker 11: you know, we have tickets available, we have about fifteen
- 14:10Speaker 11: tickets left, so not very many. So if if you
- 14:14Speaker 11: want to get there, if you want to have access,
- 14:16Speaker 11: you have to hurry up because they're they're they're moving
- 14:19Speaker 11: pretty quick.
- 14:20Speaker 5: And how do people get tickets?
- 14:21Speaker 11: So there's several different ways for them to get it.
- 14:24Speaker 11: First one, they can go on to United Way website
- 14:27Speaker 11: and uh, go on a couple number two and you know,
- 14:31Speaker 11: purchase it right there.
- 14:32Speaker 5: Facebook, we have a.
- 14:34Speaker 11: Facebook on it's called a Golden Blue I think Golden
- 14:37Speaker 11: Blue Showcase. They can go on to that and buy
- 14:40Speaker 11: tickets there, or they can text. Turn my phone off.
- 14:46Speaker 11: They can text too, because I didn't want I heard
- 14:48Speaker 11: I heard it if I left my phone on David
- 14:50Speaker 11: yell at us, so I said, I'm not doing that.
- 14:52Speaker 11: They can text, uh dance two to seven one seven
- 14:57Speaker 11: seven seven uh and get to.
- 15:00Speaker 7: And I've got a flyer that's actually it posted on
- 15:03Speaker 7: my social media that you sent me last night and
- 15:04Speaker 7: Dave Vland Radio, so we got information about that and
- 15:08Speaker 7: and to just have an opportunity to go and hang
- 15:11Speaker 7: out with these folks and the stories that even though
- 15:15Speaker 7: and like I said, I've done a lot of events
- 15:17Speaker 7: with Jozwiak in the past, and when and when he
- 15:20Speaker 7: has this good when he has this golf tournament up
- 15:22Speaker 7: there and I've been a part of it, when he
- 15:23Speaker 7: brings all these players in, there's always these different stories,
- 15:27Speaker 7: even though they're in different eras. You know, you'll have
- 15:29Speaker 7: a guy from that played in the nineties that's got
- 15:32Speaker 7: stories about things going. And then you go back and
- 15:34Speaker 7: you got a guy like Joziac who was playing there
- 15:35Speaker 7: in the early eighties and he's guestsworth. But the common
- 15:38Speaker 7: theme is is the Mountaineers and the gold blue and
- 15:41Speaker 7: that and that and that shield, you know, the symbol
- 15:44Speaker 7: that's what brings everybody together. But man, just to be
- 15:46Speaker 7: I enjoyed when I went to events like that, just
- 15:49Speaker 7: sitting back and listening, you know, not even participating, just
- 15:53Speaker 7: listening to the stories.
- 15:55Speaker 5: And being a guy that that has played.
- 15:57Speaker 11: I like listening to their stories too, because they're they're
- 16:00Speaker 11: they're different than ours, because I mean, we kind of
- 16:02Speaker 11: got into it where the social media started to happen.
- 16:05Speaker 11: They didn't have any social media, so their stories.
- 16:07Speaker 5: Thank god so much.
- 16:08Speaker 10: Thank god they didn't.
- 16:09Speaker 5: Have social media.
- 16:10Speaker 7: Some of those guys, some of the stories that I've
- 16:12Speaker 7: heard so much, talk a litt I'm gonna go back
- 16:14Speaker 7: and talk about your career just a little bit. We
- 16:17Speaker 7: talked about you being a kid from Cambda, New Jersey
- 16:19Speaker 7: and you came into Morgantown and you were quite a player.
- 16:24Speaker 7: Look like you could still play by the way, uh
- 16:27Speaker 7: and and so, and to talk.
- 16:29Speaker 5: About your career after after WVU.
- 16:32Speaker 11: Yeah, so so after after WVU, I actually it's funny.
- 16:36Speaker 11: I actually went onto the Combined website last night to
- 16:40Speaker 11: see what, you know, what the stats were, and I
- 16:42Speaker 11: looked myself up and they lied.
- 16:44Speaker 5: They said I ran like a four to seven.
- 16:45Speaker 11: I was like, I didn't even run into the combine,
- 16:48Speaker 11: Like how did they put that on there? So but anyway,
- 16:51Speaker 11: so after that, I went to the Detroit Lions. I
- 16:53Speaker 11: played there for two years, and then after that I
- 16:56Speaker 11: wasn't smart enough. I was one of those young and
- 16:58Speaker 11: mature people that were you had a whole bunch of money,
- 17:00Speaker 11: you couldn't tell me anything. When you come from come
- 17:03Speaker 11: from money, it's a little bit easy. I didn't come
- 17:04Speaker 11: from it. So I was like, you wasn't with me
- 17:06Speaker 11: shooting in the gym, So I'm gonna go ahead and
- 17:08Speaker 11: do what I went with my money. So then after that,
- 17:10Speaker 11: I just was not very smart. Went to Miami. My wife,
- 17:14Speaker 11: she was my girlfriend at the time. She was like,
- 17:16Speaker 11: you need to stay. I'm like, they're not letting me
- 17:18Speaker 11: play like she like, they like, who's the.
- 17:20Speaker 5: Coach of Miami at the time when you were there?
- 17:22Speaker 11: So Nick Saban it was Nick Saban and just became
- 17:24Speaker 11: the coach. And you know, they didn't have a running back.
- 17:27Speaker 11: So I thought, there's gonna be an opportunity there. And again,
- 17:31Speaker 11: young and dumb and Miami and pocket full of money.
- 17:35Speaker 11: You don't, you don't, you don't make the right decisions.
- 17:37Speaker 11: I was coming in meetings late and they were like, okay, yeah,
- 17:40Speaker 11: you're you gotta go. So so after that, I mean,
- 17:44Speaker 11: I got back together. I learned my lesson, went up
- 17:46Speaker 11: to Canada and stayed in Canada for for seven years playing.
- 17:51Speaker 11: We won two Great Cup Championships up there, won won
- 17:56Speaker 11: MVP of one of the Great Cups, and uh, it
- 17:59Speaker 11: was crazy.
- 18:00Speaker 10: Had a goal to do that and it actually came true.
- 18:03Speaker 11: It's it's rare, but it's you know because when you
- 18:06Speaker 11: see it, and I was like, that's all I want
- 18:07Speaker 11: to do this year is win MVP of the Great Cup.
- 18:09Speaker 11: I mean, I want to win a Great Cup obviously,
- 18:11Speaker 11: but I want an MVP.
- 18:12Speaker 5: So that happened.
- 18:13Speaker 11: And then after I transitioned out of out of playing,
- 18:17Speaker 11: I started coaching up there. So I coached up there
- 18:20Speaker 11: for three years. So I was total in Canada for
- 18:21Speaker 11: ten years. And then I left and my wife is
- 18:25Speaker 11: still mad at me from leaving.
- 18:28Speaker 7: We're talking to avon Kilburn and again, this event's going
- 18:31Speaker 7: to be in Morgantown tomorrow. Talk about the current state
- 18:34Speaker 7: of Mountain AEIR football. I mean, there's a lot of excitement,
- 18:36Speaker 7: uh with with rich Rod coming back and uh, and
- 18:41Speaker 7: there's a lot in the world of college sports.
- 18:43Speaker 13: Man.
- 18:43Speaker 5: You know, it has changed so much. I mean we.
- 18:46Speaker 7: Talked about that with a new basketball coach yesterday, Coach Odge.
- 18:49Speaker 7: It's like you have a different different team every year.
- 18:52Speaker 7: Not so much on football because it's such a big roster,
- 18:55Speaker 7: but people changing, nil comes into it.
- 18:58Speaker 5: Stuff. None of that stuff was around when you were there.
- 19:01Speaker 7: But to talk about the talk about the whole spirit
- 19:05Speaker 7: of Mountaineers going into the upcoming season.
- 19:07Speaker 11: I mean, it's so much excitement right now, Dave, Dave,
- 19:09Speaker 11: we are we former players are super excited because one
- 19:14Speaker 11: they got one of us. Like regardless if if you
- 19:17Speaker 11: played for rich Rod, if you he welcomes everybody. And
- 19:22Speaker 11: when I was previous to him, we come in, the
- 19:24Speaker 11: doors were locked. People act like they didn't care who
- 19:27Speaker 11: you were, even though they wouldn't be there if you
- 19:29Speaker 11: wasn't there, if you didn't come and do what you
- 19:31Speaker 11: did to bring to get the program to where it is.
- 19:34Speaker 5: But now I mean no locked doors. You know what
- 19:36Speaker 5: I mean.
- 19:37Speaker 11: It's you have access. You know, obviously within reason, you
- 19:40Speaker 11: have access to the facilities. And I mean I haven't
- 19:43Speaker 11: I haven't talked to a guy that wasn't excited about
- 19:47Speaker 11: you know, the the what's coming. And one thing that
- 19:50Speaker 11: he always says is which I truly believe, if we
- 19:53Speaker 11: don't win, we you will not see a lot lester
- 19:56Speaker 11: performance like if we if we're regardless from the first
- 19:59Speaker 11: place to the last play, they will play as hard
- 20:02Speaker 11: as and I believe that because that's what we that's
- 20:04Speaker 11: who we are, that's what we do, and we're gonna
- 20:07Speaker 11: play as hard as we can for as long as
- 20:08Speaker 11: we can. And you know, if we don't win, it's
- 20:11Speaker 11: because of you know, we ran out of time. It's
- 20:13Speaker 11: not because we didn't play hard enough. So that's the
- 20:15Speaker 11: one thing that I'm super excited about. That's the one
- 20:17Speaker 11: thing that in the past, you know, these kids are playing,
- 20:20Speaker 11: they they started getting paid in the performance. You know,
- 20:23Speaker 11: the product on the field did not translate to what
- 20:26Speaker 11: their bank accounts, especially former guys that that you know,
- 20:29Speaker 11: we're stars and didn't get that bank account that these
- 20:32Speaker 11: kids have now and they go out and not play hard.
- 20:36Speaker 11: It's just it's very, very, very tough to watch. But
- 20:41Speaker 11: now the excitement that we have with you know, Rich
- 20:44Speaker 11: Rock coming back with the no nonsense.
- 20:46Speaker 5: He wants to coach the players.
- 20:47Speaker 11: He wants players that wants to be coached and play hard,
- 20:50Speaker 11: just just you know, because West Virginia is a different place.
- 20:53Speaker 11: It's not a place that is We're blue collar. We're
- 20:55Speaker 11: blue collar people that expect, you know, greatness, And I'm
- 21:00Speaker 11: I mean, I'm not on the side that we want
- 21:01Speaker 11: to we wanna you know, we don't have time to
- 21:03Speaker 11: find out, you know, we want to win now. And
- 21:06Speaker 11: you know, with this nil and the opportunity to go
- 21:09Speaker 11: get great players. I mean, the excitement on the players side,
- 21:13Speaker 11: I can speak for everybody. We are excited that we
- 21:16Speaker 11: have a guy that's going to make these kids play hard.
- 21:18Speaker 7: All right, Avon Cobourn, I appreciate you being here. Let's
- 21:20Speaker 7: give us all the details about the event. And I
- 21:22Speaker 7: feel like I haven't spent a whole lot of time
- 21:24Speaker 7: talking to you. I apologize, but I'm such.
- 21:25Speaker 5: A football nerd. It's like I come in, I'm not
- 21:27Speaker 5: I'm talking to Avon Cobra and you know what I mean.
- 21:29Speaker 7: But but what you do, uh, talk about the event, talk,
- 21:33Speaker 7: just talk about everything that you do.
- 21:34Speaker 12: Sure, so the main event for Dancing with the Stars
- 21:37Speaker 12: is May second.
- 21:39Speaker 14: Uh.
- 21:39Speaker 12: Tickets are very low, so if you're interested in going.
- 21:43Speaker 5: Uh, and where is where's the event held?
- 21:45Speaker 12: It's going to be at the Chrston Cossia.
- 21:46Speaker 5: The Consume Commissioner. Okay, go ahead, Convention Center.
- 21:49Speaker 12: So we're really excited.
- 21:51Speaker 5: Uh.
- 21:51Speaker 12: There are six teams, six couples. Again, we're a couple
- 21:55Speaker 12: number two. So get out there and vote for us.
- 21:58Speaker 12: And it's just so great to to work with, not
- 22:01Speaker 12: just Avon of course, but just a group of people
- 22:04Speaker 12: who really care about the community, and we all have
- 22:06Speaker 12: one goal in mine is to raise this money. So
- 22:10Speaker 12: even if you're not able to go to the event,
- 22:12Speaker 12: you can always donate to our campaign and you can
- 22:16Speaker 12: find the information at United Way CWV dot org and
- 22:22Speaker 12: vote for a couple number two.
- 22:23Speaker 7: All right, and the event in Morgantown tomorrow, Yeah, event
- 22:26Speaker 7: more Morgantown tomorrow is gonna be a touchdown Terrorist you know,
- 22:29Speaker 7: it started a game.
- 22:30Speaker 5: Get there a little earlier. Tickets.
- 22:32Speaker 11: We have about fifteen tickets left and we want to
- 22:35Speaker 11: make sure that we get this place filled up and
- 22:38Speaker 11: all donations one hundred percent of it is going to
- 22:40Speaker 11: United Way. And we're doing this just to raise money.
- 22:43Speaker 11: We have this event and we may have one other one.
- 22:47Speaker 11: It is pending, depending on if we can get Coach Rod.
- 22:50Speaker 11: That's a teaser. We can get Coach Rod down here.
- 22:53Speaker 11: We have one other one that is pending. But next
- 22:56Speaker 11: tomorrow Touchdown Terrorists the Blue and.
- 22:58Speaker 5: Goal of View.

- 27:12Speaker 14: Good to see you again.
- 27:13Speaker 5: Welcome to the show.
- 27:14Speaker 7: And it's interesting because the picture that we posted on
- 27:18Speaker 7: the social media to promote you being here was the
- 27:22Speaker 7: last time that you were here, and that's when you
- 27:23Speaker 7: were running for the office. And we were in the
- 27:25Speaker 7: old studio and I walked in. I said, changed a
- 27:28Speaker 7: little bit since the last time you were here.
- 27:30Speaker 14: Yes, very sure, has Man. This is state of the art.
- 27:33Speaker 7: Yeah, and like I said, once we learn how to
- 27:35Speaker 7: operate a little bit even better, little even better. Talk
- 27:38Speaker 7: about you were appointed to the matter position out of
- 27:42Speaker 7: District eight. So for this was the point we came
- 27:45Speaker 7: from a Judge Ballard. For people that don't know about you,
- 27:50Speaker 7: just tell us about Harry Carpenter.
- 27:51Speaker 14: Well, I worked for the Sheriff's office for almost twenty
- 27:55Speaker 14: five years, spent my last twelve years there as the
- 27:59Speaker 14: chief of the Home Confinement Division, and up until yesterday
- 28:05Speaker 14: I was still working part time doing background checks for
- 28:08Speaker 14: concealed carry permits. I got three grandchildren, and I love
- 28:17Speaker 14: ridding my motorcycle and traveling.
- 28:19Speaker 7: Okay, so you were appointed to the position by Judge
- 28:22Speaker 7: Kenneth Ballard.
- 28:23Speaker 5: What led to the appointment.
- 28:25Speaker 14: Master Jack Polly retired about a week or so ago,
- 28:30Speaker 14: and congrats to Jack. He's a great guy man. I
- 28:33Speaker 14: worked with him for many, many, many years. And when
- 28:38Speaker 14: the magistrate retires or leaves or what have you, then
- 28:42Speaker 14: the chief Judge, the sitting chief judge at the time,
- 28:48Speaker 14: has to make the replacement. And Judge Ballard, I've known
- 28:52Speaker 14: him for a number of years and straight up guy.
- 28:56Speaker 14: And he went through the process, took applications, reviewed them,
- 29:01Speaker 14: did interviews and I was fortunate enough to get the NOD.
- 29:07Speaker 7: I'm talking with Harry Carpenter, who has just been appointed
- 29:10Speaker 7: as the new magistrate in Canawa County District. The The
- 29:13Speaker 7: Dave Allen Show and five eighty Live brought to you

- 29:28Speaker 7: You talked a little bit about your experience, Harry. What
- 29:31Speaker 7: do you think that all that experience brings to the
- 29:34Speaker 7: table for you as a magistrate?
- 29:35Speaker 14: Well During my career, I spent virtually every day in
- 29:40Speaker 14: the judicial building, working with the magistrates in the circuit
- 29:44Speaker 14: judges and defense attorneys and the prosecutors. So it's not like,
- 29:49Speaker 14: you know, I'm going in with my eyes wide and shut.
- 29:53Speaker 14: And so I'm sure the transition will be very smooth
- 29:57Speaker 14: and I'm fairly confident. That's what Judge Ballard saw also.
- 30:03Speaker 14: And again I can't thank him enough for, you know,
- 30:07Speaker 14: making me the appointed e. But my history with the
- 30:12Speaker 14: Sheriff's Office, I think will will prepare me for what's ahead.
- 30:18Speaker 7: Of course, And here you've been in this for a
- 30:20Speaker 7: long time, and you know, and anyone that's in a
- 30:22Speaker 7: courtroom or out on the streets or the hollers in
- 30:25Speaker 7: West Virginia, Knawah County, no matter where you are, a
- 30:28Speaker 7: majority of your crimes are overwhelming majority are going to
- 30:32Speaker 7: involve drugs. I mean, whether it's larceny, whether it's robberies
- 30:36Speaker 7: or some type shootings, whatever it's rough out there.
- 30:40Speaker 14: Yeah, and you know, I experienced all that, uh, you know,
- 30:44Speaker 14: working with the Sheriff's office, and you're right, you know,
- 30:49Speaker 14: most of the time, whatever the crime is goes back
- 30:52Speaker 14: to drugs or alcohol and that's unfortunate, but you know,
- 30:59Speaker 14: Knall County has taken steps, you know, to try to
- 31:03Speaker 14: help with that. You know, Judge Jennifer Bailey has her
- 31:07Speaker 14: adult drug Court and it's been very successful for the
- 31:12Speaker 14: last number of years, and they have a juvenile drug
- 31:16Speaker 14: Court and the day Report program. So the Court's been
- 31:20Speaker 14: progressive about trying, you know, to help people that want
- 31:26Speaker 14: and need help.
- 31:27Speaker 7: I remember when we I brought you in here on
- 31:31Speaker 7: a previous campaign and you you talked about that drug
- 31:34Speaker 7: court and how you were a big proponent of it.
- 31:37Speaker 14: Well, I was one of the original board members when
- 31:39Speaker 14: it started, and you know, we had some speed bumps
- 31:43Speaker 14: and trip a little bit, but it's uh, you know,
- 31:48Speaker 14: the people that were involved with it stayed true to
- 31:52Speaker 14: it and didn't give up, so you know that's uh.
- 31:58Speaker 14: I don't know so much about the details of it
- 32:00Speaker 14: now because I haven't been involved with it, but I
- 32:04Speaker 14: know it still continues and it's these drug courts.
- 32:08Speaker 7: I know over in the Putnam County where I live,
- 32:12Speaker 7: it's been a huge success over there and in other
- 32:14Speaker 7: areas of the state too.
- 32:15Speaker 14: Right, And you know, and the judge has to believe
- 32:18Speaker 14: in it, and Judge Bailey she's a believer. I mean,
- 32:23Speaker 14: you know, she's been with it from day one. As
- 32:26Speaker 14: a matter of fact, I think Judge Ballard, if I'm
- 32:29Speaker 14: not mistaken, was over the juvenile drug court program. I
- 32:34Speaker 14: don't know if he still is or not, but I
- 32:35Speaker 14: think at one time he initiated that program. So you know,
- 32:40Speaker 14: Kennall County is being you know, progressive and trying to
- 32:44Speaker 14: fight this epidemic, and you know, I just hope to
- 32:48Speaker 14: be another part of that.
- 32:50Speaker 7: Talking to Harry Carpenter who was just named as magistrate
- 32:53Speaker 7: out of district A disappointed to that position of a
- 32:55Speaker 7: day valence show on five eighty Live brought to you

- 33:08Speaker 5: So you are officially on the job now or I mean, yeah,
- 33:11Speaker 5: it's our waiting period where.
- 33:12Speaker 14: We all yeah, it's kind of a learning experience. I
- 33:17Speaker 14: guess yes, I have been appointed. The order has been entered. Monday,
- 33:22Speaker 14: I started a four day session over at the Embassy
- 33:25Speaker 14: Suite with all new magistrates that came.
- 33:29Speaker 5: Magistrate school, so to speak.
- 33:30Speaker 14: Yes, yeah, well yeah, yeah, but it's with all the
- 33:34Speaker 14: new masts that came in in January. So I'm really
- 33:37Speaker 14: I'm looking forward to that. I've already reached out to
- 33:41Speaker 14: Jack's assistant and assured her that, you know, she's if
- 33:46Speaker 14: she's willing to stay, I'd be more than happy, happy
- 33:49Speaker 14: for to be with me because we all know that.
- 33:52Speaker 14: And Carrie's been doing this for fifteen years, okay, and
- 34:00Speaker 14: i'd really like to average day and she's going to okay,
- 34:03Speaker 14: and she's very very confident and does a great job
- 34:06Speaker 14: over there, and we worked together in the past.
- 34:08Speaker 7: Well, I think sometimes people forget that when you're in
- 34:12Speaker 7: a job like that, that your assistance and your team.
- 34:16Speaker 5: Without without there, without.
- 34:17Speaker 7: Them, you don't get a whole lot done, you know,
- 34:19Speaker 7: because you've got to have that team behind you.
- 34:21Speaker 14: Well, you're only as strong as your weakest link, and
- 34:23Speaker 14: going in with her, I'm the weak link.
- 34:26Speaker 5: Okay, I'm sure you'll get there though.
- 34:27Speaker 14: Yeah it is uh uh. And again, you know, and
- 34:32Speaker 14: I've said that and to anybody that'll listened for my
- 34:36Speaker 14: whole career. You know, you can't put a number on
- 34:39Speaker 14: a good assistant and We've had several of them around
- 34:43Speaker 14: the Sheriff's offices that are invaluable.
- 34:46Speaker 7: Before we let you go, probably would be remiss if
- 34:48Speaker 7: we didn't give you an opportunity to thank some people
- 34:51Speaker 7: in your life that you know that you got to
- 34:53Speaker 7: this position again. You were appointed yesterdays the new magiss
- 34:56Speaker 7: in industrict day. But if you want to thank anybody
- 34:59Speaker 7: in your family or anything, now's your time.
- 35:01Speaker 14: Well, you know, first and foremost, I'd like to thank
- 35:04Speaker 14: Judge ken Ballard for having the faith in uh and
- 35:08Speaker 14: appointing me. And uh, you know that without that, we
- 35:11Speaker 14: wouldn't be sitting here. And my daughter and son in
- 35:14Speaker 14: law Cassie and Quentin Davis that stood beside me through
- 35:18Speaker 14: this whole, this whole thing and work their butts off,
- 35:22Speaker 14: and and uh, you know the multitude of people that
- 35:27Speaker 14: have supported me. I really don't want to mention any names.
- 35:30Speaker 14: I'm afraid I'll leave something.
- 35:32Speaker 5: Then you get in trouble and you're not even there yet.
- 35:34Speaker 14: Well, and you know, my Facebook and my phone yesterday
- 35:39Speaker 14: just was gone crazy. So I'll probably have to do
- 35:44Speaker 14: just a one post thing and think every everybody, yeah,
- 35:47Speaker 14: because there's no way I can hit them all.
- 35:50Speaker 7: All right, Harry, congratulations. I'm sure you'll do a great
- 35:53Speaker 7: job in that position.
- 35:55Speaker 14: Well, thank you, Dave, and I appreciate you having me
- 35:57Speaker 14: in here. And as always, of course this time particularly, man,
- 36:01Speaker 14: I feel like I'm really in a professional environment.
- 36:04Speaker 7: Well, I'm still hosting, so it's only going to be
- 36:06Speaker 7: so professional here yet.
- 36:07Speaker 14: That's why I keep looking the other way.
- 36:09Speaker 5: I get you.

- 40:51Speaker 7: which news station was trying to film children without parental consent,
- 40:54Speaker 7: but they got run off by a school employee. Do
- 40:58Speaker 7: better news stations. I hadn't heard about that, but I
- 41:01Speaker 7: appreciate them. Bring the bat on my ten.
- 41:03Speaker 10: Yeah, you can't.
- 41:03Speaker 5: That's that's something you can't do.
- 41:06Speaker 7: Dex says, good morning day for another day of Donald
- 41:08Speaker 7: Trump's sebestos tariffs. Israel has more tariffs than Iran. Some
- 41:13Speaker 7: island with peing ones has more terrorists than Russia and Iran.
- 41:17Speaker 7: Where who were exempt? And it's being said by a
- 41:19Speaker 7: lot of smart, intelligent people that the terrorists were written
- 41:22Speaker 7: by AI. This would be hilarious if it wasn't turning
- 41:26Speaker 7: the country into an embarrassment. DJ Meadows will be in
- 41:31Speaker 7: the house to do talk line today.
- 41:33Speaker 10: I want to hear your Johnny Kirshon Carson impresonation.
- 41:36Speaker 5: No No, it was.
- 41:37Speaker 7: I didn't plan on doing it. It just it just
- 41:39Speaker 7: kind of came off, and it just it wasn't good.
- 41:41Speaker 7: I was talking about all this stuff and I hear
- 41:43Speaker 7: it off the how Johnny used to do in the
- 41:45Speaker 7: wow and wacky stuff, and it's a truly bad. It's
- 41:47Speaker 7: a it's a truly bad. Where's your coffee cup and
- 41:50Speaker 7: your cigarette? I got my coffee cup here. I don't smoke,
- 41:52Speaker 7: but I do have a pin. How's that that don't work?
- 41:54Speaker 5: All right? I'm more likely to have a slim gem
- 41:56Speaker 5: in my hand that I have nothing wrong with the
- 41:58Speaker 5: slim chin that I am to have a.
- 42:01Speaker 7: Cigarette. So the texture was asking about tariffs. You were
- 42:05Speaker 7: on the Metro News midday show with me yesterday and
- 42:08Speaker 7: also you were on talk On of course, as you
- 42:10Speaker 7: are every day with Wilson, so I know you've always
- 42:12Speaker 7: got a lot on your mind about tariffs.
- 42:14Speaker 10: So I think the Wall Street Journal editorial this morning
- 42:17Speaker 10: probably captured at best. The Financial Time is another one,
- 42:20Speaker 10: but the gist of what they said was the worst
- 42:23Speaker 10: self sabotage of the economy in US history.
- 42:27Speaker 5: And why do they say that?
- 42:29Speaker 10: Because we're inflicting this on ourselves. We started it. This
- 42:32Speaker 10: thing about retaliatory tariffs, I think that's a false narrative. Frankly,
- 42:39Speaker 10: We're always going to have some level of tariff against us.
- 42:42Speaker 10: We're always going to have some level of trade deficit.
- 42:44Speaker 10: That's what you get when you're a rich nation. That's
- 42:47Speaker 10: what you get when your economy is more services focused
- 42:53Speaker 10: and innovation focused, because that's what we do best. So
- 42:56Speaker 10: we let somebody else make stuff. And the market bears
- 43:01Speaker 10: me out on that. We're down again. What at the
- 43:03Speaker 10: open today and of the twelve hundred points yesterday, Dave,
- 43:05Speaker 10: the market lost three point one trillion dollars in value. Well,
- 43:11Speaker 10: what would you say to those that say, I'll play
- 43:13Speaker 10: devil's advocate here? What would you say to those that say, well,
- 43:16Speaker 10: it's temporary, it's a correction. We're not where we're going
- 43:20Speaker 10: to be yet, we got to have a little bit
- 43:22Speaker 10: of We got to inflict a little bit of pain
- 43:23Speaker 10: to get a little bit of pleasure, so to speak.
- 43:25Speaker 5: What would you say to that.
- 43:26Speaker 10: There's nothing temporary about it unless the president walks it back,
- 43:29Speaker 10: And so far he's showing no signs that he's willing
- 43:32Speaker 10: to do that, And frankly, I think he has one
- 43:34Speaker 10: more trading day to be able to walk it back
- 43:37Speaker 10: before you've lost a lot of value that you're not
- 43:39Speaker 10: going to be able to regain. If he walks it
- 43:42Speaker 10: back today, there's a good chance the market could rebound,
- 43:46Speaker 10: in my opinion, and regain a lot of the value
- 43:48Speaker 10: that we lost yesterday and what we're losing today.
- 43:51Speaker 7: Well, let's be honest, what are the chances of him
- 43:53Speaker 7: walking back? No, when has Donald Trump ever walked in Hell, it.
- 43:57Speaker 10: Would be a loss. China's now back with thirty four
- 44:01Speaker 10: percent today. That's what's dragging the market down. They said, Okay,
- 44:03Speaker 10: we'll throw thirty four percent tariff on everything that you
- 44:06Speaker 10: guys send over here. This is not a president that
- 44:09Speaker 10: will walk that back, because this is not a president
- 44:12Speaker 10: that likes to lose. Here's the fallacy in his thinking.
- 44:15Speaker 10: They talk about on shoring of manufacturing jobs again. Number one,
- 44:19Speaker 10: takes a long time to get a factory back open here.
- 44:22Speaker 10: There'll be some exceptions. Right, even if you get it
- 44:25Speaker 10: open again, even if you manufacture here again, it's not
- 44:27Speaker 10: going to be human capital that does that job. It's
- 44:29Speaker 10: going to be roboticized and it's going to use AI.
- 44:31Speaker 7: So that doesn't the only people that you're going to
- 44:34Speaker 7: get are the people that repair those things when they
- 44:37Speaker 7: go down. And that's not as many as I having
- 44:39Speaker 7: actual workers.
- 44:40Speaker 10: What is on the big show today, Sir so WVU
- 44:43Speaker 10: economist John Deskins joins us. Coming up at ten oh six,
- 44:47Speaker 10: we'll talk about tariffs from a West Virginia angle. Will
- 44:49Speaker 10: get his perspective as an expert academic, longtime student of
- 44:55Speaker 10: economics and find out exactly what he thinks about what
- 44:58Speaker 10: is happening. Coming up at ten thirty. Hot beat Kerchieval
- 45:02Speaker 10: jamazs us in studio eleven oh six. Chris Steierwalt stops
- 45:06Speaker 10: by at eleven thirty. It's Friday, it is steam release.

- 45:10Speaker 10: I am about all of this, and I can't say
- 45:12Speaker 10: a thing about it.
- 45:13Speaker 7: It's not say not nary word as we would say
- 45:16Speaker 7: in southern West Virginia.
- 45:17Speaker 5: DJ Meadows, I appreciate you being here. Hey, folks, serious biz.
- 45:20Speaker 5: Let's keep an eye on the creeks and streams. We've
- 45:22Speaker 5: gotten reports that some.
- 45:23Speaker 7: Of them are nearly out of their banks here in
- 45:25Speaker 7: the Kenawk County area. Uh So, what please use caution
- 45:28Speaker 7: and keep your radio on because our news team will
- 45:31Speaker 7: give you the updates as we get them. I'll be
- 45:33Speaker 7: back with Metro News midday with Amanda powered by Selango Law.
- 45:36Speaker 7: Coming up at noon today Monday Show, Amy Goodwin is here,
- 45:39Speaker 7: the Mayor and folks from the Alburn Theater in St.
