• Brothers in the Box: And with even more energy this week, welcome back to the Brothers in the Box. I am Ishan here with Elias. And we have had one of my favorite weeks the summer in my entire lifetime. I don't think that's crazy. Okay, so ⁓ to me why this was ⁓ because of the amazing Stanley Cup finals we've had, ⁓ also I feel like I've gotten more into NBA now. It's been very exciting to watch the next win. But also at the same time, it's also the Knicks winning, so who knows? ⁓ no, I think ⁓ both. I I mean I will agree and and disagree with you. I'm actually very dialed on the fitness right now. I ⁓ I see that. Yeah, I'm very proud of you. It's it's a it's a good place to be. Mm-hmm. It's I I'm enjoying myself. seventeen hundred calories is no joke though. it's rough though. It's rough. Yeah, no, I feel like you just have to live with hunger, I feel like I'm gonna I'm gonna try and get on the ground soon. Soon enough. ⁓ Soon enough. ⁓ One day or day who knows? about how about you start in September? ⁓ No, no no no. We go now. realistically Realistically. The summer's here now, almost. very, very close. We're we're almost there. And then Ishan, let's go here and let's get this food and let's get that food. It's true. And then it's just like Maybe maybe we won't start tracking, but I I do want to go consistently in the gym. I feel like that's that's but he went three days and then said, ⁓ yeah, back I've not been locked, but that starts tomorrow. Well, actually you didn't even go three days, did you? I have, yeah. I did every single workout except for legs, because who works legs? I do. Yeah, congrats. It's actually my I was looking today at my my stats for working out and it's currently my most worked out muscle per week. Which is crazy, right? Yeah, congrats. Yeah. Mm. Really ⁓ really relying on those hip thrusts to bring up those numbers though. Yeah. The amount of volume I do is actually insane. I'm sure it is. ⁓ and then I don't know why, but for the last few weeks I'm also playing soccer. Like you know. And the last few weeks I've hit a leg day before playing soccer. Which is a horrible idea. And it is not the play. It is not I don't know. I don't know who gave you that idea to begin with. No no, it's just it's just that every leg day has also fallen on the same day as soccer. So they're not gonna switch the plan. I would be insane to do that. That's craziness. Why would you be insane? Just switch up the days. No, it doesn't work like that. No it doesn't. You it's not like you get to decide. No, I don't. No, my app tells me and I don't do the the workup. This is why AI is gonna take over the world. I'm not changing I'm not changing for ⁓ for no soccer game. Who do you think I am? No. hockey pro I was telling Ishan and we were talking about this last night as we were watching double overtime. Unfortunately it did not end in the way that we wanted it to, but ⁓ goal. I think this is d the best finals that I've seen twenty twenty two. At least. Yeah, I would agree. I mean Just in terms of of ⁓ level of hockey. Each game being just ⁓ really great. I mean, I would say that that twenty twenty four final was definitely they had a lot of close games. I mean the first game was a little bit worse like four one. I don't think that that The games in twenty twenty four were that close though. Game two was like four three then ⁓ three was close and then game four they blew them out. Game five, game six were relatively close. here I'll tell you right now. Okay, so game one was three ⁓ yeah they showed us out. Game two was four one. Game three was four three. Game three was the four three game. Okay. And then game four was eight one. Yeah. Spoilers. Game five was five three. And game six was five one. And then game seven was two one. So in terms of in terms of entertainment value and staying glued to your T V screen the whole game, this series has provided the most watch value in my opinion. Yeah. I would say ⁓ I mean, I don't know, like I I don't fully remember all the all the series, but y even last year there was ⁓ I mean there was like that one for game one Dresselad the overtime winner that's still talked about to this day is a beautiful play. but yeah I think it was I last year it was four three for game one, five four for Florida in game two, six one, five four, then five two, then five one. It's ⁓ it's like it's still I I think that this it's every goal Every game has been a one goal game. It has. Two out of the three games have gone to overtime. Currently Vegas has home, I said man. It's just like many ⁓ things have happened, and then also two crazy records were set in in game three last night. Yep. With Mitch Marner recording the fastest hat trick ever in in Stanley Cup history. Shout out Eric. and the Hurricane scoring three goals in thirty nine seconds. Yeah, like that's That's insane. It's absurd. It's absurd. ⁓ I've seen so many I've seen so many clips of it like on on Instagram and stuff where it's like these people just re like reenacting what they were thinking during the game. They're like, Okay, four ⁓ like ⁓ yeah, this game is over. I'm gonna go run to the store or whatever and grab some food. ⁓ they scored. Yeah. ⁓ okay, maybe they're setting the tone for next game. ⁓ they scored again. Yeah. ⁓ wait, one more time. Are they are they gonna do this? Here here, let me ⁓ let me read you ⁓ this this group chat. ⁓ because I was I was fully out of the game. And then ⁓ who scored that first goal? Was it was it Taylor Hall? Then then I saw four two. So then I I added him and I said, Don't go to bed yet, four two now. In twenty eight seconds. And then in all caps I say, Eric, it's four three Three and thirty nine seconds. It's insane. he did not wake up, but ⁓ I mean yeah it's a good thing because they ended up losing, but no, just a crazy series overall. ⁓ enjoyed it. Mitch Marner has been on something different. were talking about this and like obviously a big part of the The entire finals is the Consmith trophy and who performs the best. a lot of people are comparing Marner's performance to the way McDavid played in 2024. Like, yes, he is carrying his team a little bit, but there's still I feel a lot of other players that have been contributing. I don't know if it's up to the same level as McDavid, but hat trick and an assist, four points, that's similar to what McDavid did. Yeah, I I mean, okay. ⁓ I don't think that you can give him the consmite either way. Yeah. I feel like there are many contenders on Carolina if they do end up winning. If they go if they go seven games, Maybe either way. ⁓ But he has to play like he's been playing for the next four games. No, no, If it has to be this pace for Carolina to win, then he still gets the consmite. What I expect out of out of Marner if if he wants the consmite, at least one more four point game. And a consistent consistent point per game, obviously. No two point per game. Yeah. I I would say I would say two or three points each game. Yeah. ⁓ and that's and it's still s not even I wouldn't even say that's confirmed. Because 'cause you look at other candidates on the other side. You look at a player like Jordan Stahl, who is old, but he's been scoring in every single game. He's leading his team. ⁓ And he's been amazing in the face off circle as well. Like let's not forget that. There are many other aspects to this game other than just putting points on the board and there are a lot of candidates for this trophy. So I'm excited. I I know if Vegas does win then I think it's And he gives him a shutout they play him for the rest of this maybe he gets two shutouts. I don't think it's crazy that you give him the concept. No, it's not. It's not. Especially because if if a shutout does happen, then Marner has zero points. Exactly. So It it's still it's still up in the air. I don't think it's confirmed or anything like that yet. but I could I could see it as a possibility. It's it's definitely a huge possibility of of Marner Marner having a con Smite and a big, a big rub in ⁓ Toronto fans' face ⁓ ⁓ Austin Matthews. Yeah. ⁓ yeah, if even if they don't win the con even no, this is this has just been absolutely from him and and ⁓ To go from where they were in the regular season to how they have been in the playoffs is just unbelievable. It is. And I don't think that they'll keep Tortorella this season, and I know that you think that's crazy. I think I think they do, but I think maybe the challenge project is just a one and done. Yeah. I think we've seen him overstay his welcome with a lot of teams it's ended in a poor result. Yeah. And I think Vegas would rather not pay him a contract and have to fire him and then pay something else with similar to what has happened and transpired with Bruce Cassidy and just get over him bring in a new coach. I don't know who. ⁓ depend probably depends on what happens at the end of next week. Mm-hmm. I definitely can see this going well it's def it's definitely going to go six or seven because Carolina is winning this I I would completely I I don't have I haven't lost faith. The the second period though yesterday, and if any Carolina fans are listening to this, that was the worst hockey your team has played all season long. Yeah, and it was it was so disappointing to see. Horrible. It was just complete collapse every single system. The the defense I I think it started with the defense. I the the The move to pull Freddie Anderson, yes, maybe he he he lost it a little bit, but I don't even think that it's massively his fault. I think it was more of a defen a mindset change. Yeah. For for for Rod and the team. that defensive the defensive work for that team in that second period was absolutely atrocious. Yeah. really lucky that they were able to to bring it back. Together for the third period 'cause it would have been a really embarrassing loss if if they ended up losing four nothing or four one. Yeah. Also Carter Hart just l absolutely lost it in the third. Like letting in three goals in thirty nine seconds is very impressive. I think I think not in a good way. The thing that the thing that Carolina they do have a little bit of a break because today or yesterday was Saturday. they play on Tuesday. So they do have a little bit to, come back together. watch more film. And the main thing is I I I know that ⁓ the Oilers struggle with this as well, but going down early in games and then coming back is it's a nice thing to have, but it's it's not gonna win you. You can't rely on it. You can't you can never rely on that because if you go down it's so much more difficult to fight your way back. You have to you have to play a different way. ⁓ and we saw this in the second period. They were playing more aggressive, their D men were pinching a little bit more. And that led to rush opportunities where guys like Marner capitalized. Yeah, and I think Carolina plays a type of way that's we talked about this in game two as well, where you have Carolina has a system where they're pushing and they like to push. And once they're ahead, they like to park the bus. They're a defensive minded team and they're they're when they're ahead because they'll still go for those opportunities. They play a little bit of haram pak, if you will. They will. They will. And their defense sits back a little bit more. They don't rush up and find those opportunities. Yeah, they lock it down because that's what their team was made to do and that's what their forwards their forward core is made to do and especially their defensive structure is made to do. Their defense doesn't give up as many shots. Freddie Anderson has it a little bit easier for himself as well and that's why they've shined in the last two series and against the Haves. Yeah, I think it's interesting to see what will happen and what decision ⁓ Brindemore will make in terms of either playing Bussy or playing Anderson. I think it'll depend on who he feels is gonna give them a better chance to win. But this Canes team has prided themselves and now has two losses in the whole finals or three three now, right? No no two two losses. ⁓ in the Stanley Cup finals? No in the in the sorry in the playoffs. three losses so three losses in the finals But this team all season has prided themselves on the ability to play a certain system, their system, whether that's at home or away, and they don't change at all. And yesterday in the second period, you saw them change drastically. So my one thing for game four, and it's a must win in my opinion, for Carolina, play your system and don't falter. Because if you falter, you will lose. And this Vegas team will pounce on every opportunity that you give them. Yeah, I think that's it's a very it's a very simple statement. And I really wish like we could just talk to these players and like actually tell them what's what's going on. And I want to hear what they are thinking as well. Because I'm sure it's very similar and they understand what's going on, but sometimes, I'm watching the screen and I I don't know exactly what they're thinking in their heads. Yeah. Like you see Nichishkin pinch ten feet Off the blue line and you're and there's nobody back and you're you're looking and you're thinking to yourself, what is this guy doing? Like has he ever played hockey in his life? and it is difficult, making those split second decisions in game, but but some of these days like especially when watching the Oilers, ⁓ my god, both defensemen going behind the net. We saw the for with Carolina as well. Like you can never you can never do that. no, to switch to NBA though. Mm-hmm. Knicks are up two ⁓ Going back to MSG. It's gonna be crazy. Tomorrow's gonna be electric. Yeah, I'm I'm unfortunately not gonna be able to watch the game and have work. Mm-hmm. But yeah, I I can't imagine what's gonna happen. Yeah, I think the arena is gonna be absolutely insane. The the lowest ⁓ cost. I know we talked about this before, but I gotta ⁓ final number on Instagram I saw it was like nine thousand three hundred US dollars for a very full upper boat price you can you can barely see the court like it's it's it's up there and it's just it's really just to be a part of the atmosphere and hopefully see one a bucket to go in or something. ⁓ I think a reporter a couple days ago asked Trump about how absurd the ticket prices are at MSG? He's like, Well, if fans wanna watch the game they can watch it at home. Fair, but also nine thousand dollars just to get in the door? Yeah. It's it's it's nine thousand dollars to get in the door. Like are we what are we doing? And ⁓ floor seats, like if you want to sit like quartzide or something. I don't know if it's exactly quartzide, but it's like behind quartzide 'cause I think quartzide is reserved or something for a bunch of celebrities, I'm guessing. But it's like a hundred and ninety thousand. That's insane. Yeah. That's insane. So who has that kind of money? A bunch of celebrities and that's why they're playing in New York. Yeah. we went to game two. Well, we didn't go to game two, but I wish we went to game two. ⁓ we went to go watch game two with a couple of our buddies. Ishan and I are both cheering for the Spurs. ⁓ so it was a tough tough loss. a couple of mistakes that Wemby made Wemby, what are you doing dog? no, I was talking to Dad the other day and he was ⁓ he just reminded he was like, Wemmin Yama is twenty two years old. He's young. Most of that team is really young. it's it's it's literally what OKC it's literally the next OKC where everyone's gonna hate them because they're such a young team and there's there's so many stars. If you think if you think that Wem and Yama is doing this at twenty two, Dylan Harper is what twenty? Something like that. Maybe maybe even nineteen. Stefan Castle is in the in the draft one of Wemby. Yeah. Like that's their big three. That's their core right now. And and they're all in their twenties. They're all in their early twenties. So they're just gonna terrorize the league for the next ten years. I mean, you look at it's it's very similar to we're looking at with like the Ducks. Exactly. ⁓ or if we're looking at the Sharks. Mm-hmm. Obviously. I think the Sharks are more of a Yeah. They haven't had as much of playoff phase success yet, but they're they're still a younger team. They're still their star players are still very, very young. And they have a pick in this draft. So it's still like very up there. I think there's a lot of young teams and a lot of teams that have done a very good job and the Spurs are one of those teams. And and I would say And I would say that although Wemby has gotten a lot of criticism this series, he's played amazing. He's played phenomenal. Like I I r I strictly remember us going to the game and somebody at the end of the game, he missed he missed the game winner, and somebody said that ⁓ Wemby didn't have a good game. This guy dropped twenty nine points, nine rebounds, and four blocks and And you're telling me that he didn't have a good game? No. Just because he missed the game Just because he was it's just it's just mind boggling to see when you do something and it's the same thing with maybe you it's it's unfair to compare Wemby and McDavid, but when you do something so consistently people expect you to do it. And then when you fall short of those expectations, people think that you're bad and you're just you're still unbelievable. Yeah, like he had I remember seeing the stat he had seven in the first half. And then he came out, he had twenty two in the second half. Like, what are you like that's exactly what you need from star player? You you had a horrible second quarter, and you b you come back and you start hopefully start to bounce back. Not the greatest third quarter, but that fourth quarter, they were pushing. They eventually got it back. And then they fell short again. Yeah. But there's still lots of there's still lots of games left. They obviously have to have a big game three. And if they do shut down New York in their hometown, then I do think it's a possibility they c they could win too straight there. I I think it definitely is. Ishan and I talked about this, but New York playing in the garden gives me similar vibes to Montreal playing at the Bell Center. Mm-hmm. Because it's so loud. It almost is harder to play with all that pressure of the fans compared to Playing away where there's no noise. Yeah, everyone is a different type of player and maybe the star players feed off energy. ⁓ Who knows? But I know for certain there are some that are gonna fall short of their expectations because of that pressure of the fans and playing in a crowd that is very pretty toxic. Yeah. But also believes in their team. No, extremely toxic. Extremely toxic. ⁓ The this ⁓ This fan base is is insane and they've been wanting this for years. and I I'm excited for them. I know I know it's it's very exciting to see your team ⁓ in the finals. But don't know what's gonna happen, but I'm very excited to see what happens tomorrow. Yeah. And to all of the people who have h ⁓ hopped the next bandwagon, you're fake. Yeah. I was okay. ⁓ sh I don't know if I want to share this with everyone, but I will I will anyways. It is because of one reason and one reason only. I bought a hat in grade eight. It was an OKC hat and I thought it was very cool. It was it was a team that I wasn't I wasn't very invested in. All I knew about them is that Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden and Paul Jordan all used to play for that team and they did pretty well. So I was excited to ⁓ support a team that was not as great. I'm an OKC fan, It is because of one reason and one reason only. Requests a trade. Is asking for an out. And took me by surprise. Very, very, very surprising. I was not expecting such a very talented, amazing captain to be How will you glaze him some more? To be to be asking out. How how will you tell me he's one of your favorite players without telling me he's one of your favorite players? but no ⁓ player. was amazing for the US ⁓ And also has been exceptional for the wings. They haven't gotten what they've wanted to over the last couple of years, and I'm sure that's frustrating for Dil Narkin, and that's where this trade request is coming from. But who who are the conte who are the contenders to get him? In my mind right now, I think that Minnesota is a huge target. Yeah. I think Montreal is a possibility. Montreal is a possibility. I I think he'd rather play in an American market, if I'm being completely honest. Most likely. I don't think. The Oilers, everyone, there's been talks about like, ⁓ maybe we'll get Dylan Mark and No, we're No, we're not. There's no way. If you're an Oilers fan, we're not getting Dylan Mark. We're barely we barely my trainers. not hope for too much. But ⁓ place that I was really interested in, I only saw one one or two posts about it. What if you went to San Jose? I just I don't see it. Because If he did go to San Jose, they would be trading a hundred percent be trading the second overall pick for Dylan Larkin. And to me, it just doesn't make sense. What okay, what if it deal what if what San Jose needs is a is a star studded young defenseman that can develop around the same time as Celebrini. But if they have if they have the second round pick they they're gonna have to trade down then because why would they take Stenberg then? Well they could take Stenberg and then trade him. It's true. But actually they I I saw something on Twitter that said that they took Virhof out for dinner. Interesting. Yeah. So I mean Canucks fans would love it if Stenberg dropped to them. Probably won't but the reason that I I thought Larkin and San Jose was so interesting because when ⁓ originally when I thought putting a bunch of like veteran ish guys on the ducks was the wrong move. Mm-hmm. But it's worked out so well for them. You look at Chris Kreider and ⁓ and like John Carlson even, they're not having the most amazing seasons. No, but they have that presence and they're able to exactly and like players like Radko Goodis, Truba, all those players that are have gone through experience and have been like for some of them have been in the playoffs. It is important to have that experience and time in the league and bringing in Another captain from another team takes probably a little bit of the pressure off of Celebrini to lead. But the thing the thing with Celebrini is I think he does want to lead this team and I think he will get the seat. This is this is Celebrini's team. I I think that Larkin still would like to be a captain somewhere. So do you think he gets this? I don't think he gets to see in Minnesota, but I think he could do you think it's a possibility he gets to see it in Montreal. No No, ca feel like Suzuki Suzuki has to keep it. I don't think you could strip Suzuki. No, because I don't think he'll get to see anywhere he goes then. Unless he goes unless he goes to like a a horrible, like not not a like a small market team. Yeah, like a not a great team like what about like St. Louis? What about Utah for him? I don't think he gets to see there, but No, I don't think he gets to either. Yeah, I mean it it's interesting. I think that the front runner is the wild just because of his relationship with ⁓ Billy G. Yeah, they'll find a way to get it done. Yeah, ⁓ just like they made Quinn Hughes like they got Quinn Hughes done. But it'll be interesting to see. I think it also opens up a lot of talk about what other players are unhappy with their team's playoff performance. If a captain is asking out, then who else is asking? I think it opens the door for other players to start asking questions. Not just on the Red Wings, but also around the league. Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if the a lot of players on the Red Wings, like you look at like Alex De Brincat, Lucas Raymond will most likely stay. but someone like Alex De Brincat who hasn't seen the most success. He was on Ottawa, there wasn't success there, he moved to Detroit, still not a lot of success. There's possibilities where those some of those players get moved. Yeah, and I think it opens the door for players who play for teams like the Senators. Maybe the devils? Maybe. maybe the Jets. Maybe. I mean, Ealers ⁓ didn't with Winnipeg. He went to Carolina and that's probably been one probably the best move of his career. A hundred percent. He's he's been thriving over there in Carolina. But yeah, I think it it opens up a lot of a lot of questions for this off season, and I think this ⁓ this offseason gonna be a lot of fun to watch and ⁓ I hope lot of moves get made, especially around the Oilers organization. Yeah, there's been talks about Darnell Nurse parting ways with the organization now. So I mean we'll see if that ends up actually happening because I swear there's talks every year about him. think Stan Bowman was supposed to talk to Nurse about his expectations of the team and because Nurse has a no movement, he has full capability to choose what he wants to do. He can wave his claws, he can choose to stay. I I hope I hope for the betterment of McDavid's well being, he he chooses to leave. Yeah. But I could see a possibility where he knows that it's most likely a one and done season for the Oilers. it's literally a cup or bust. We've been saying this for years, but literally that's exactly what's gonna happen. Yeah. And he most likely wants to be here. Yeah. okay, Ishan, let's get into World Cup, which is starting June 11th. Very, very soon. Four days. ⁓ Very, soon. Exciting stuff. Yeah. So ⁓ tell ⁓ Who you think has the has the team to win it all? ⁓ I it's most likely the favorite going into it. a little bit of a bandwagon move, but They have a good opportunity to have a young player who has been thriving. Some may call it generational talent. But ⁓ Spain, I think, is gonna be your twenty twenty six World Cup winners. Yeah, they they do have a very easy group. Yeah. If I will say myself. They drew Cabo Verde, Saudi Arabia, and Uruguay. Yeah, really Saudi is like the only other No, I'd say Uruguay is the only Team that would give them a little bit of a I mean sh Saudi shocked Argentina la last time. That's true. It's true. and it is World Cup, so anything can happen. It's true. My team. Well, I mean, is that is that your team you're cheering for though, or is that just the team that you think is gonna win? Obviously, we're cheering for Canada. We're hoping that they do the best. But I think yeah, that's that's the team that I'm cheering for. Wow. You're so fake. I that France has a really good shot of winning. ⁓ they drew a pretty easy group as well, to be honest. Other than the fact that they are gonna be playing Erling Holland in their in their group play. So they they drew Senegal, Iraq, and Norway. think they they'll still go three and ⁓ in their group match play. but the team I'm cheering for other than Canada obviously is going to be England. The motherland. ⁓ Yeah. is my city. ⁓ they drew Croatia, Ghana, and Panama. So another easy group for them. I think it's gonna be really cool to see the integration of the tournament throughout ⁓ three countries and that plays into what games being played and but it's it's gonna be an all day ordeal. It's gonna be a lot of fun to watch. There's gonna be lots of watch parties around ⁓ the city and there's There's a lot of stuff happening to commemorate this this crazy festivity. I I just I know like I'm very thankful that there's so much sports now. it's actually such a blessing you have the NBA finals, you have the NHL finals, and those are both exciting things. And on top of this, there's an extended World Cup that we get to watch all summer. Well, not all summer ⁓ until mid July, but until mid July. But then but then there's even more sports that that continue, like MLB, there's WNBA. Yeah. And ⁓ sh we Ishan and I just b before recording this watched the Memorial Tournament ⁓ shout out JT Poston. Yeah. Didn't even know your name before that, but yeah, congrats. Congrats on winning ⁓ the tournament almost sold. Yeah, like the US Open is on June eighteenth to June twenty first. It's just ⁓ it's just a crazy run for sports and then before you know it, NFL will start again. My LA Rams are having a perfect season. are we losing to? I don't think there's anyone.
