  Speaker 1: That makes the Old Angel Inn one of the oldest

  Speaker 1: operating inns in Canada. Over the years, it welcomed soldiers, politicians, explorers,

  Speaker 2: Then one of the most important settlements in Upper Canada.

  Speaker 1: But to understand why this place is said to be haunted,

  Speaker 1: you first need to understand Niagara-on-the-Lake itself. Long before it

  Speaker 1: became known for the wineries and tourism and beautiful historic streets,

  Speaker 1: Niagara-on-the-Lake was the first capital of Upper Canada, what would

  Speaker 1: eventually become Ontario. During the War of 1812, this area

  Speaker 1: sat directly on the front lines between British North America

  Speaker 1: and United States. The battles were fought here, soldiers died here,
• 1:19
  Speaker 1: and in 1813, the town was invaded.

  Speaker 2: And largely destroyed.

  Speaker 1: It was during that conflict that the legend of Captain

  Speaker 1: Colin Swayze was born. According to local lore, Captain Swayze

  Speaker 1: was a Canadian militia officer stationed in Niagara in May
