- 0:06Speaker 1: your hands together for Jamison Welch. And in this corner,
- 0:09Speaker 1: standing at five foot ten, weighing in at pound and
- 0:13Speaker 1: coming to us from his super secret bunker with no
- 0:16Speaker 1: AC in Tucson, Arizona. Put your hands together for Luis Montemao.
- 0:27Speaker 1: All right, welcome back to the episode of Mixed Company Podcast.
- 0:30Speaker 1: I'm not sure that's gonna be a short one or not,
- 0:32Speaker 1: but it was a lot of box over the weekend.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Of course, I'm one half of the show. I'm Jamison,
- 0:38Speaker 1: joined by Luis as always, Luise, what's going on? Man?
- 0:41Speaker 2: What's up? Jameson Very happy to be back on the mic.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Here.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Yeah, sometimes we're like, we'll keep this sort of shorter,
- 0:46Speaker 2: but the conversation is so good it just we go
- 0:48Speaker 2: extra fifteen to twenty minutes. But hey, you know what,
- 0:51Speaker 2: as long as the vibe is right, we're gonna I
- 0:53Speaker 2: love doing the show, so you know, as long as
- 0:55Speaker 2: you don't bore people. But yeah, let's get right into it.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Over the weekend, a couple of fights that we wanted
- 1:01Speaker 2: to talk about, the main one being the return of
- 1:03Speaker 2: Earl Spence the final fight that he will be ever
- 1:07Speaker 2: having against Tim Zoo in Australia. H Man, let's just
- 1:11Speaker 2: say I'll start by saying this, that should have ended
- 1:14Speaker 2: with Earl Spence knocking out being knocked out based on
- 1:17Speaker 2: that performance. I think he was very tired, very sluggish
- 1:21Speaker 2: by you know, let's say, by the halfway mark, and
- 1:24Speaker 2: I think speaks more to Tim Zoo than he wasn't
- 1:26Speaker 2: able to knock Earl Spence out. But what's your take
- 1:29Speaker 2: on what happened on Saturday.
- 1:31Speaker 1: That's part of it. But I also think there's a
- 1:33Speaker 1: certain respect amongst boxers that they can tell somebody is
- 1:37Speaker 1: not what they used to be, or not out one
- 1:39Speaker 1: hundred percent, or not really a threat, and they cond
- 1:42Speaker 1: of take it easy on them, especially when the outcome
- 1:48Speaker 1: is not in doubt. When you know you're winning on
- 1:51Speaker 1: all the cards and the other person not really a
- 1:53Speaker 1: threat to hurt you, you kind of tend to take
- 1:56Speaker 1: it unless you have real issues with set of person.
- 1:59Speaker 1: There's not a lot of guys will let someone hang
- 2:02Speaker 1: around and it was obvious that was Spencer's last fight.
- 2:05Speaker 1: It was as a round one. Oh, he doesn't have
- 2:07Speaker 1: any like there's no peppitist in his step, there's no pop,
- 2:11Speaker 1: there's no pepitist, and his punches, the movements don't look right.
- 2:15Speaker 1: You could tell like, hey, this is he's on borrow time.
- 2:19Speaker 1: You you could tell from the first thirty seconds to
- 2:21Speaker 1: do like that. Nope, the same And we kind of thought,
- 2:23Speaker 1: we talked about this before. It was like, hey, Rumble's
- 2:27Speaker 1: boy his camp and also too, there's some health issues
- 2:32Speaker 1: he's ever recovered from and you could tell it's not
- 2:35Speaker 1: the same boxer pre COVID. It's not not a close
- 2:38Speaker 1: and unfortunately it ended on Saturday.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Yeah, we talked last episode about how we were kind
- 2:44Speaker 2: of concerned about Spence's health and safety in the ring.
- 2:47Speaker 2: You know, we made a long conversation about that based
- 2:50Speaker 2: on what you saw. Did that look like a guy
- 2:52Speaker 2: that was just you know, past his primate ready to
- 2:55Speaker 2: go or did that look a guy that should not
- 2:57Speaker 2: have been in that ring? Because I would back and forth.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Honestly, it's a good question, be honest with you. I
- 3:04Speaker 1: just think it was done. I think he's a shot
- 3:06Speaker 1: fighter at this point. Whether he should have been in
- 3:08Speaker 1: the ring or not, that's a whole different question. But
- 3:11Speaker 1: it's felt like a guy that was that was he's
- 3:14Speaker 1: been done, He's done, like and it's okay, like it's
- 3:17Speaker 1: it's all right, it happens, but it's stilt like a
- 3:19Speaker 1: guy I was at the end of the rope, at
- 3:21Speaker 1: the end of the road, that's all.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Yeah, And I do totally appreciate your take that, you know,
- 3:26Speaker 2: a boxer can respect the guy and across room from
- 3:28Speaker 2: the from the ring, especially when you know that you're
- 3:30Speaker 2: gonna win. You know, I don't think there was I honestly,
- 3:33Speaker 2: once the last bell rung, I walked up. It was
- 3:36Speaker 2: it was out Saturday, it was really hot. I was
- 3:38Speaker 2: sweating balls all day, so I just went to rinse
- 3:40Speaker 2: off and the you know, take a shake, a quick shower.
- 3:42Speaker 2: After the fight, I didn't even wait for the speeches,
- 3:44Speaker 2: and yeah, usually I'll hang out to you know, hear
- 3:46Speaker 2: what folks have to say. So I didn't even hear
- 3:50Speaker 2: Earl Spence saying on after the fight officially that he retired,
- 3:54Speaker 2: Like wasn't a surprise honestly for the best. Yeah, that
- 3:59Speaker 2: whole that whole event was weird because Stephen Fulton had
- 4:03Speaker 2: to pull out because I believe he didn't make weight.
- 4:07Speaker 2: And then Charlow, Jamal Charlow, he couldn't get into Australia
- 4:12Speaker 2: because of you know whatever ligal issues of these issues.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Uh So, I honestly I tuned in as the Spence
- 4:18Speaker 2: fight was starting. I didn't even see if they replaced
- 4:20Speaker 2: the fights before that. You know, it was very last minute,
- 4:22Speaker 2: so I don't even know what happened in the in
- 4:25Speaker 2: that event before, if people were in the ring or sorry,
- 4:27Speaker 2: in the stadium waiting for nothing. But yeah, just all around,
- 4:33Speaker 2: very disorganized situation. I understand that Australia has their you know,
- 4:37Speaker 2: strict guidelines for people coming over, you know, for events
- 4:39Speaker 2: this and that, which is fine, you don't have to
- 4:41Speaker 2: change them. But guess what, Australia, you don't get the
- 4:44Speaker 2: house big fights anymore.
- 4:45Speaker 1: I'm sorry.
- 4:48Speaker 2: That.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Nope, on the boxer. It's on the box and the organizers.
- 4:51Speaker 1: It has nothing to do with Australia. We know the rules,
- 4:54Speaker 1: we know the rules. It's not we can't keep making
- 4:57Speaker 1: the people are impacted by the room rules. Just innocent, naha.
- 5:02Speaker 1: We knew, we knew the situation everybody. It's like Canada.
- 5:05Speaker 1: If you are a felon, you cannot go to Canada.
- 5:08Speaker 1: It don't work. You just can't. There's no way around it.
- 5:10Speaker 1: There's no way like nah, the people who put the
- 5:12Speaker 1: fight together knew, good god damn well that the boxers
- 5:16Speaker 1: had issue with paperwork. They knew that, so you know
- 5:19Speaker 1: that going in. I can't fault the country. Now, if
- 5:21Speaker 1: you had a situation where the country was allowing them
- 5:25Speaker 1: to come in under a special thing and that didn't work,
- 5:28Speaker 1: totally different circumstances. But that was not the case here
- 5:31Speaker 1: at all.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Sure, And I'm not saying again, I'm not saying Australia's
- 5:35Speaker 2: changed the way that they they do things and they
- 5:38Speaker 2: have host events of this and that, but when it
- 5:40Speaker 2: comes to big fights, it's like we already had trouble
- 5:42Speaker 2: with I think was it Bill Haney a couple of
- 5:45Speaker 2: fights ago? Yeah, and it just keeps coming up. I'm like,
- 5:48Speaker 2: why how about this fine? We can say? The promoter
- 5:50Speaker 2: is if it's going to be that much trouble just
- 5:53Speaker 2: like skim it, I don't know.
- 5:54Speaker 1: You know, it was like why we have a fights?
- 5:56Speaker 1: And I was like, is there that much money to
- 5:58Speaker 1: be made in Australia? Is the places like that? My thing? Like,
- 6:02Speaker 1: why are we going to Australia? Every time we you know,
- 6:05Speaker 1: it's could have been too many, Like you mentioned, there's
- 6:07Speaker 1: been too many big fights over there over the last
- 6:09Speaker 1: ten to fifteen years, and you would think, but if
- 6:11Speaker 1: you can't let certain people in, something's up with that,
- 6:14Speaker 1: Like it's kind of odd.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just it's just kind of making things more
- 6:18Speaker 2: complicated for no reason. I mean, who the hell isn't
- 6:20Speaker 2: going to tune into Cero Spens fight at MSG or
- 6:22Speaker 2: you know, someplace in La Vegas. I mean, Jesus, any
- 6:28Speaker 2: any fight in Vegas is like it's a it's a
- 6:29Speaker 2: natural home for it. So it's cool, Like I can
- 6:33Speaker 2: you know, I can understand from time to time, you know,
- 6:35Speaker 2: changing the venue. I've watched fights that are said in
- 6:37Speaker 2: London and Riot and all that, et cetera. But yeah,
- 6:41Speaker 2: when it comes to major events like this, why I
- 6:43Speaker 2: put yourself a risk to I was sorry, I was
- 6:46Speaker 2: gonna say, losing two fighters, but again one of them
- 6:49Speaker 2: not making weight has nothing to do with with the
- 6:51Speaker 2: uh the rules, So but yeah, it's just kind of weird.
- 6:55Speaker 2: This is kind of what gets disheartening about boxing when
- 6:57Speaker 2: it's just like it becomes it looks like a shit show.
- 7:00Speaker 2: When it's a sport that you've been around for so long,
- 7:04Speaker 2: the rules have been in played for so long, Like,
- 7:05Speaker 2: how this is this still happening? You know?
- 7:08Speaker 1: Yeah? I mean here's the thing, man, I think a
- 7:11Speaker 1: lot of times these organizers put to put together the
- 7:13Speaker 1: event and then worry about everything else later. It feels
- 7:16Speaker 1: like they're in a rush to get a thing, or
- 7:18Speaker 1: they're getting so much money from a venue or a
- 7:21Speaker 1: country or a city or state that they just put
- 7:23Speaker 1: together and then worry about everything else as it comes.
- 7:26Speaker 1: I think that's a big part, because quie is it kept?
- 7:28Speaker 1: So here's the thing that I don't know if it's
- 7:30Speaker 1: out or not, but these promoters get paid by the city, county,
- 7:35Speaker 1: state to put these events on because you're bringing people
- 7:38Speaker 1: to a location. Whenever you're bringing like five hundred people
- 7:41Speaker 1: are more to a place you are, you're gonna get
- 7:45Speaker 1: paid by the county commission, Tourism board, et cetera, et cetera.
- 7:49Speaker 1: So if you're bringing thousands of people to to a
- 7:54Speaker 1: country unexpectedly and they're going to be there for more
- 7:57Speaker 1: than a week or whatever, yeah, you're gonna get something
- 8:01Speaker 1: on the back end that no one knows about. So
- 8:04Speaker 1: I get why these fights keep happening these locations. I'm
- 8:07Speaker 1: not dumb. You're not dumb. However, with that being said,
- 8:11Speaker 1: we gotta be very smart in who we have fight
- 8:13Speaker 1: in these places. So if the promotion company is getting
- 8:17Speaker 1: kicked down a five million dollars on the back end,
- 8:19Speaker 1: all right, that's cool, But we got to be very
- 8:22Speaker 1: smart about who can who's in these fights who's not, because,
- 8:25Speaker 1: like you mentioned, there shouldn't be a situation where a
- 8:28Speaker 1: fighter can't get into the country knowing good and goddamn
- 8:31Speaker 1: well his little situation was.
- 8:32Speaker 2: What it was, right, And there is such a thing
- 8:34Speaker 2: as burning bridges people. I mean, yes, of course promoters
- 8:37Speaker 2: are gonna get all this money and they're gonna set up
- 8:39Speaker 2: all these things, but you're gonna be the asshole that
- 8:41Speaker 2: doesn't deliver on you know, what you promised and what
- 8:45Speaker 2: I just don't. I just don't get the mindset, you know,
- 8:47Speaker 2: if if yeah, we'll figure it out later. There's been
- 8:50Speaker 2: enough enough big fights that had to be canceled. We
- 8:54Speaker 2: scheduled all that stuff enough time that why why don't
- 8:57Speaker 2: people know better by now? You know what I'm saying,
- 9:00Speaker 2: But that's neither here nor there. You know, it's just
- 9:02Speaker 2: kind of a personal gripe that I have. It's it's like,
- 9:05Speaker 2: what is it gonna take for the sport to get
- 9:07Speaker 2: a ship together after was boxing.
- 9:09Speaker 1: And they will never get a ship because you gotta
- 9:11Speaker 1: realize the people who aren't charged don't give a fuck.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Like fast the thing we talk about all the time,
- 9:16Speaker 1: there's no collective bargaining. There's no rules.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you've mentioned as well many times, which
- 9:21Speaker 2: I appreciate, is that there are no rules in terms
- 9:23Speaker 2: of like becoming a promoter, becoming a pr person, like
- 9:26Speaker 2: you can just there's no you know, if you have
- 9:28Speaker 2: to show a degree or anything like that, you can
- 9:30Speaker 2: just show up and get the job.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Other than that, even if you had to fuck that,
- 9:33Speaker 1: it's not that there's no oh, there's no commissioner, Like
- 9:36Speaker 1: there's no rule like box is the only sport where
- 9:39Speaker 1: there's no governing. There's no rules, Like there's none there's
- 9:44Speaker 1: literally no rules. You literally, oh, think about this. We
- 9:48Speaker 1: found out Charlo couldn't get in like last week this time, right,
- 9:51Speaker 1: like we know over the week last week we told
- 9:53Speaker 1: he wasn't gonna be able to fight. Let's just say
- 9:55Speaker 1: they found some random guy to replace him and that
- 9:58Speaker 1: random guy won. Now that guys a celebrity, he's popular,
- 10:01Speaker 1: he has action for the rest of his career based
- 10:03Speaker 1: off of that. Like, there's so many randomness that would
- 10:05Speaker 1: never happen in any other any other, any other industry.
- 10:09Speaker 1: It's insane. But it's been like this forever, is not
- 10:12Speaker 1: gonna change.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's fair. I guess see, there's no real
- 10:17Speaker 2: like you don't bring in a random you know, uh,
- 10:19Speaker 2: I guess kid who plays basketball in his neighborhood to
- 10:22Speaker 2: play for the NBA when a player is sick or
- 10:24Speaker 2: anything like that.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Right, yeah, I mean that. But also just in general,
- 10:27Speaker 1: more for safety reasons, right, Like, here's the thing. Boxing
- 10:31Speaker 1: is very tough because there's a lot involved when it
- 10:34Speaker 1: comes to safety and make sure both parts are safe.
- 10:37Speaker 1: You don't want no crazy person they're fighting a top
- 10:39Speaker 1: contender or also you don't want a random person in
- 10:41Speaker 1: there not knowing how to defend himself. So it's a
- 10:43Speaker 1: lot of state. But my thing is these promoters have
- 10:46Speaker 1: been around way too long, and we know people's paperwork,
- 10:49Speaker 1: you know, and also deep down inside as a person,
- 10:53Speaker 1: you know what your situation is. You know whether you
- 10:55Speaker 1: can get in places or not that's fair.
- 10:58Speaker 2: This should be a little bit more self awareness.
- 10:59Speaker 1: But to I mean.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Overall, I don't know. I can't say that. It's hard
- 11:04Speaker 2: to say how to describe how I feel about the fight,
- 11:06Speaker 2: Like was it a good fight? Not really? Was it exciting?
- 11:10Speaker 2: You know, I was, I was kidding. There was a
- 11:11Speaker 2: couple of times and I was like, all right, at
- 11:13Speaker 2: least Spence is still landing a couple of punches here
- 11:16Speaker 2: and there. But I don't know. It just felt like
- 11:19Speaker 2: a dud all around. But it probably should have happened
- 11:22Speaker 2: in the first place. Spence was a name and a draw,
- 11:26Speaker 2: and you know, I kept hyping up. It's like, well,
- 11:29Speaker 2: he's coming back. You know, fans want to see him
- 11:31Speaker 2: this and that. But maybe I should temper my excitement
- 11:34Speaker 2: a little bit when it comes to a guy that's
- 11:36Speaker 2: over the hill and really shouldn't be there.
- 11:38Speaker 1: So you right again, whenever you get those kinds of
- 11:41Speaker 1: car accidents that he got in, you're never going to
- 11:43Speaker 1: be right again. You're never going to be right. But also,
- 11:46Speaker 1: he didn't look good in the Crawford fight at all,
- 11:49Speaker 1: Like he didn't look close. He looked like a guy
- 11:51Speaker 1: that had been in accident and there's been issues. It's
- 11:55Speaker 1: been a while since he looked sharp. And it's interesting
- 11:59Speaker 1: because some I brought this up up and I'm not
- 12:01Speaker 1: necessarily saying I agree with it, but they said, like, hey,
- 12:05Speaker 1: Crawford's biggest, second biggest win is Earl Spence, and the
- 12:09Speaker 1: Earl Spence he fought an Earl Spence that had a
- 12:12Speaker 1: Hall of Famed career. So what does that mean for
- 12:16Speaker 1: two of Crawford's best performances or against guys on the
- 12:19Speaker 1: downward trajectory of their career. It makes you think. I
- 12:22Speaker 1: don't think any differently about I mean, he handled business,
- 12:25Speaker 1: but looking back at the Spence fight, before the fight
- 12:28Speaker 1: and after, I have a lot of different thoughts about
- 12:30Speaker 1: that one. Per Se Canelo was still a really good
- 12:33Speaker 1: fighter when he fought. He dominated that one. So I'm
- 12:35Speaker 1: not gonna that's likely go there per Se. But the
- 12:38Speaker 1: Spence one, I don't judge the same as I would
- 12:42Speaker 1: have three years ago.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Okay, that's fair. I go back and forth on it.
- 12:47Speaker 2: In my mind. I think if you isolate just Bud's
- 12:50Speaker 2: performance period and how would he looked in the ring,
- 12:53Speaker 2: you know, I'll put it in this way. I think
- 12:55Speaker 2: Bud would have beat the shit out of Spence even
- 12:57Speaker 2: without the car accident play.
- 13:00Speaker 1: That's why I vary. That's where I think there's literally
- 13:02Speaker 1: physical injuries, and I think there's limitations involved that weren't
- 13:06Speaker 1: there in twenty seventeen. In twenty eighteen, that's where I differ. However,
- 13:10Speaker 1: I do think Budd probably wins the fight. I think
- 13:13Speaker 1: it's closer. I think there's an actual when a guy's
- 13:17Speaker 1: not able to use his reflex or the reflex are
- 13:20Speaker 1: a second art, slow, it ain't ain't gonna work. But again,
- 13:24Speaker 1: I can't discredit Bud because he took care of business.
- 13:27Speaker 1: But looking back at that fight, I'm like, oh, this
- 13:30Speaker 1: guy's like looking back over, he's been he's been watched
- 13:33Speaker 1: for a minute, Like because the same issues happened three
- 13:36Speaker 1: years ago, that happened last Saturday or last Saturday, that
- 13:40Speaker 1: was the teles I like, oh, he's don't have it
- 13:42Speaker 1: like there's no there's nothing there. And when there's nothing there,
- 13:48Speaker 1: it's like, Okay, he's either he's either out of shape
- 13:52Speaker 1: or he's injured, or he's just done. And that was
- 13:57Speaker 1: his payday. That the off or fight was the pay
- 14:01Speaker 1: the and I get that he did what he had
- 14:03Speaker 1: to do for his family and make sure, I totally
- 14:05Speaker 1: get that, but man like, for a guy that had
- 14:09Speaker 1: the resume and career he had, the way his career
- 14:12Speaker 1: ended is very wild. I don't know if we've ever
- 14:15Speaker 1: seen a career in like this, like of a Hall
- 14:18Speaker 1: of Fame guy, like a guy that's a really good boxer,
- 14:21Speaker 1: a guy being that that good, and then crumbling down
- 14:24Speaker 1: like this, right.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Well, and I think that two fights in which he
- 14:30Speaker 2: is very clearly dominated one. I'd have to go back
- 14:33Speaker 2: and watch the both this and Saturday fights and the
- 14:36Speaker 2: Crawford fight again, but in my mind, based on my memory,
- 14:41Speaker 2: the spence that fought Bud was way better than the
- 14:43Speaker 2: spence that fought this weekend. Uh, you know, again not
- 14:46Speaker 2: having watched that in a minute, but I think those
- 14:49Speaker 2: two fights, I think, and you're retiring is good, Like
- 14:52Speaker 2: let's not keep going, let's not say, well, I got
- 14:54Speaker 2: a little bit more in the tank. So I'm actually glad,
- 14:56Speaker 2: you know, it's it's uh, you know, he saw the sign,
- 14:58Speaker 2: he saw the light. We don't need him signing up
- 15:01Speaker 2: for another fight next year, and then looking even worse
- 15:04Speaker 2: for awhere uh and and actually getting knocked out and
- 15:07Speaker 2: possibly you know, being permanently injured or anything like that,
- 15:10Speaker 2: but uh, yeah, I mean really I think also as
- 15:14Speaker 2: back when I was fit or not fat, but there
- 15:17Speaker 2: are times when your body does straight up to say
- 15:19Speaker 2: like I got nothing left. Like, of course, there's always
- 15:21Speaker 2: dig deep and push the motivation you know there, your
- 15:24Speaker 2: your gym coach, your boxing coach tells you like, keep
- 15:26Speaker 2: moving blah blah blah. But at some point there is
- 15:29Speaker 2: a thing where you just don't have it and you're
- 15:30Speaker 2: not there yet. Sure you can build up and get stronger,
- 15:32Speaker 2: et cetera, but there I've had times where I'm like, dude,
- 15:35Speaker 2: my foot is not.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Gonna do that.
- 15:36Speaker 2: I'm sorry, Like, it's just not I will not be
- 15:39Speaker 2: able to I literally am not physically capable of jumping
- 15:41Speaker 2: rope anymore or whatever it is. And when that sucks,
- 15:44Speaker 2: when you reach that point and you realize, like I
- 15:47Speaker 2: gave it all everything I had, and I think Earl
- 15:48Speaker 2: Spence did so. But you know, I'm good for him
- 15:52Speaker 2: for choosing to retire. I think it's the best option
- 15:55Speaker 2: for him. And uh, let's uh, let's see what the
- 15:58Speaker 2: next big name is going to be that takes over, right, right,
- 16:03Speaker 2: So moving on, from Saturday to Sunday. I actually watched
- 16:06Speaker 2: a good chunk of the zoofa boxing event. How much
- 16:09Speaker 2: of that did you actually watch?
- 16:11Speaker 1: I watched more than I wanted to. My paramount plus
- 16:13Speaker 1: wasn't working all the way right though, Like I had
- 16:14Speaker 1: some buffering issues. I don't know if it was my
- 16:17Speaker 1: WiFi or there. I don't know what was going on,
- 16:19Speaker 1: but it wasn't as sharp as I thought it would be.
- 16:21Speaker 1: But I did watch the actual main event, not the
- 16:24Speaker 1: one that they tried to tell us was the main event,
- 16:26Speaker 1: but the real main event. But then after I kind
- 16:30Speaker 1: of left because I don't like the guy who was
- 16:33Speaker 1: the actual main event. And I know why the main
- 16:35Speaker 1: event I tember the fight was. I get it, but man,
- 16:39Speaker 1: the guy's rough watch man like, and I know we
- 16:41Speaker 1: won the fight. He's a rough watch and he thing
- 16:44Speaker 1: that I don't like about him is he's not that good,
- 16:47Speaker 1: but he carries himself like he's very good. That's what
- 16:50Speaker 1: problems that works my soul. But he fights a fighter
- 16:55Speaker 1: that's really good. He gets humbled, so we know the deal.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Like the guy he fought me got dropped by the
- 17:01Speaker 1: guy on the first round. What will we doing? What
- 17:04Speaker 1: we do.
- 17:05Speaker 2: I mean, I guess we could start there. There's a
- 17:06Speaker 2: bunch of things I wanted to talk about, but yeah,
- 17:08Speaker 2: we're talking about Edgar Berlanga versus this. His name is
- 17:12Speaker 2: Stephen Butler, I believe a Canadian dude. His last name
- 17:15Speaker 2: is Butler. I don't know it's Steven.
- 17:16Speaker 1: But yeah.
- 17:17Speaker 2: The thing about Berlanga, Okay, I had something occurred to
- 17:20Speaker 2: me while I was watching that made the quote unquote
- 17:22Speaker 2: main event is that he is very much like a
- 17:25Speaker 2: Deontay Wilder. Undeniable power, not enough boxing talent, draws people
- 17:31Speaker 2: in because of the knockout stuff, this and that. Definitely,
- 17:33Speaker 2: I don't think he's as charismatic as as the weather,
- 17:37Speaker 2: but but that's kind of it. He's he's like big punches,
- 17:41Speaker 2: big knockouts, big knockout guy, and definitely that's not uh yeah,
- 17:47Speaker 2: when he fights a decent fighter with some real skills,
- 17:49Speaker 2: he can avoid that because he's just trying to get
- 17:50Speaker 2: that knockout with the same punch over and over.
- 17:53Speaker 1: There's no adjustments. He's not that fast defense ain't right.
- 17:58Speaker 1: It's just he's just a guy. He's a guy that
- 18:00Speaker 1: looks cool on a fight on a fight night, you know,
- 18:04Speaker 1: you know the name, so okay, but in terms of
- 18:07Speaker 1: like headlining events like hopeless the last eventy headlines because
- 18:10Speaker 1: the guy that fought perform is way better than him.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Why the guy that fought perform can actually be the
- 18:15Speaker 1: face of boxing. He has that talent. I don't believe
- 18:17Speaker 1: he will be well, he actually has that kind of talent.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Yeah. The problem with Berlanga is that, or sorry, with
- 18:24Speaker 2: Stephen Butler the opponent, is that he kept getting caught
- 18:27Speaker 2: with those exact same shots over and over, those hooks,
- 18:30Speaker 2: which I'm like, have you got larned?
- 18:33Speaker 1: B I.
- 18:33Speaker 2: You know, I talk a lot of shit for a
- 18:34Speaker 2: guy just sitting on the couch, you know, drinking a
- 18:36Speaker 2: beer watching the fight. But you've seen better fighters against him,
- 18:40Speaker 2: and you've seen people with defense and what they could
- 18:42Speaker 2: do against those punches, And it's just like, why why
- 18:45Speaker 2: is it the other guy justin either you know what
- 18:46Speaker 2: I mean?
- 18:47Speaker 1: Why where's the fight prep at? Like, honestly, you dropped
- 18:50Speaker 1: dude in round one, So you did some fight preparation.
- 18:53Speaker 1: You did to watch some tape. There's something you found
- 18:55Speaker 1: that you could attack. Why didn't you do more of that?
- 18:58Speaker 1: Like you mentioned, why you keep getting hit with hooks.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Why you keep getting hit with the same punch over
- 19:03Speaker 1: and over for five more rounds. That was my issue
- 19:07Speaker 1: with that being said, though for longer than what he did.
- 19:10Speaker 1: He was in New York. It's good for you know,
- 19:13Speaker 1: the brand. I get it. It's cool. He'll be in
- 19:15Speaker 1: the mix for some other fight, you know, co headline
- 19:18Speaker 1: all that. It's just cool. But man, it's I'm just
- 19:23Speaker 1: not a fan of, you know, of what he does
- 19:26Speaker 1: in the ring. I'm just not And I against him,
- 19:29Speaker 1: I'm not, you know, I don't. I'm not you know,
- 19:31Speaker 1: I don't. As a person, I don't really cared either way.
- 19:34Speaker 1: But at a XER I am not a fan. And
- 19:37Speaker 1: when he gets a step in compete and competition it's
- 19:41Speaker 1: going to be you know, different level. Yeah.
- 19:46Speaker 2: I the way I describe it is for somebody that is,
- 19:48Speaker 2: you know, has very powerful punches and can knock out
- 19:52Speaker 2: dudes pretty well, how are you still completely sauciless as
- 19:55Speaker 2: a fighter. I just don't get it.
- 19:57Speaker 1: But that's the best way to put it.
- 20:01Speaker 2: Another thing too, that I remember when you talked about
- 20:03Speaker 2: Earl Spence reacting to punches you know, a second too late. Uh,
- 20:07Speaker 2: you know, during the corver fight that Steve Butler. Dude
- 20:10Speaker 2: was reacting but three seconds too damn late to those
- 20:12Speaker 2: hooks like people.
- 20:14Speaker 1: And couldn't see them. And as always, it's always a
- 20:16Speaker 1: tailtale song when a boxer is not in get shape
- 20:19Speaker 1: and when they're just reacting way late or they're getting
- 20:22Speaker 1: out the way a second or two too late, it
- 20:25Speaker 1: always tells you like, hey, this fight is not gonna
- 20:26Speaker 1: go on much longer because you just can't, you know,
- 20:29Speaker 1: the energy you need to get out of dodge. You
- 20:32Speaker 1: need energy. And if you don't have energy and your fought,
- 20:34Speaker 1: you're behind your hurt. It's knocking in will. Yeah.
- 20:38Speaker 2: But actually, and let's let's say this though, I will
- 20:43Speaker 2: still say that I haven't been that impressed by zoof
- 20:46Speaker 2: of boxing at all and what they've been doing so far,
- 20:49Speaker 2: but I will I like to give credit where credit
- 20:51Speaker 2: is due. On Sunday evening, I went out and we
- 20:54Speaker 2: have this Arizona franchise called Cold Beer and Cheeseburgers. I
- 20:57Speaker 2: don't know if you've heard of it, Jamison six Sports
- 20:59Speaker 2: Bar Sports Far. Yeah, it's weird that it's like in
- 21:01Speaker 2: Arizona and in Dallas, according to the website, which is
- 21:04Speaker 2: like a weird place to why but whatever. So I
- 21:07Speaker 2: was there. I was like, oh, let's sit down and
- 21:09Speaker 2: have a beer. And then I realized, wait a second,
- 21:11Speaker 2: this looks like the kind of place in my play UFC,
- 21:13Speaker 2: which is on Paramount plus. Right, So I asked the bartender, you, guys,
- 21:17Speaker 2: do you have paramun plus. There's boxing right now that
- 21:18Speaker 2: I wanted to watch. And the guy's like, oh, let
- 21:20Speaker 2: me you know. He brought another guy over. They checked
- 21:22Speaker 2: the menu. The guy was like, well, yeah, we signed
- 21:24Speaker 2: up for UFC, but I don't think we're signed up
- 21:26Speaker 2: for the boxing thing. And I'm like, it's all one
- 21:28Speaker 2: thing if you have Paramount plus, right, right, Yeah, so
- 21:31Speaker 2: a lot of people shows that a lot of people
- 21:33Speaker 2: don't know that boxing is up paramount, which kind of sucks,
- 21:36Speaker 2: but I explained to him. He put it on and
- 21:39Speaker 2: I got to watch one of the fights out drinking
- 21:42Speaker 2: the beer, you know, with a crowd of people, and
- 21:45Speaker 2: that's cool. Like I've said before, I love doing that.
- 21:47Speaker 2: That's the thing that's been hard to do since uh
- 21:49Speaker 2: top Rank has not been on ESPN. Yeah, so I
- 21:53Speaker 2: gotta say if there's to be able to go up
- 21:55Speaker 2: at some places and say if you're playing. If you
- 21:57Speaker 2: played UFC last night, can you please put on boxing
- 22:00Speaker 2: for me two night Sunday. So that's kind of cool.
- 22:04Speaker 2: I will I will say that that that's a point
- 22:07Speaker 2: in Zoofa's favor that they're available and they're sort of
- 22:11Speaker 2: bringing in that sense, they're sort of bringing up boxing
- 22:13Speaker 2: alongside the UFC since they made that deal, since Dana
- 22:15Speaker 2: White made that deal. So right, I will, I will
- 22:18Speaker 2: say that. But but yeah, the fight that I saw
- 22:21Speaker 2: was this guy, uh Jalil Hackett, who is unknown to me,
- 22:25Speaker 2: fighting the Ukrainian guy, uh Sergei Dervachenko. Did you did
- 22:30Speaker 2: you catch any of that fight? Jimson?
- 22:32Speaker 1: I cast some of it. But also I've heard of
- 22:34Speaker 1: the second guy you mentioned before. I've seen him in
- 22:37Speaker 1: other fights, and I've heard the name before.
- 22:39Speaker 2: I don't think i've I've seen him. I forgot, but
- 22:42Speaker 2: Jelo Hackett uh awesome dominating performance. Absolutely just beat the
- 22:47Speaker 2: ship out of the ukrating guy. His face was super
- 22:49Speaker 2: bloodied afterwards, respected Dervachenko, though he went the distance. Around
- 22:54Speaker 2: round seven, I was like, somebody's gonna stop this. The
- 22:57Speaker 2: ref is gonna stop this. The corner of the doctor
- 22:59Speaker 2: because he looked fucked up, but he kept going. Not
- 23:02Speaker 2: only did he stay on his feet, he kept throwing punches.
- 23:04Speaker 2: So that very clear, one sided fight, but very very exciting.
- 23:10Speaker 2: So Jalil Hackett his his nickname is Negro Mexicano, which
- 23:16Speaker 2: means the black Mexican and in Spanish negaro just means
- 23:20Speaker 2: black and it's not but and he had like the
- 23:25Speaker 2: American flag on one glove and the Mexican flag on
- 23:27Speaker 2: the other. So I'm like, is this guy part of Mexican,
- 23:29Speaker 2: Like like he's a black, He's a black man. But
- 23:32Speaker 2: I was very like, I really want to learn more
- 23:34Speaker 2: about this guy, like what's your dear, Like, why why
- 23:36Speaker 2: are you? Why's your nickname? The black Mexican?
- 23:38Speaker 1: Right right?
- 23:40Speaker 2: Apart from being in you know, obviously very talented fighter,
- 23:42Speaker 2: So it was cool that I got to see him
- 23:45Speaker 2: and you know, definitely be checking out his next fight.
- 23:49Speaker 2: But yeah, the big thing that we were both interested
- 23:52Speaker 2: is Richardson Hitchens and that one another very very solid performance.
- 23:57Speaker 2: H absolutely dominating just every round, excellent boxing talent. You
- 24:03Speaker 2: know they call it, you know, the sweet science for
- 24:06Speaker 2: a specific reason. But I wanted to get your take
- 24:08Speaker 2: on how you felt about seeing Richard's detensions back on
- 24:10Speaker 2: the ring, it was cool.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Like it was good to seeing. I mean, the talent
- 24:13Speaker 1: was there. I mean it's obvious didn't really learn much
- 24:17Speaker 1: because of the opponent was such a disadvantage, so you know,
- 24:20Speaker 1: it really not much really learn or show from that.
- 24:22Speaker 1: It was good sceneing back in the ring. I hope
- 24:24Speaker 1: we get him up for the end of the year.
- 24:27Speaker 1: He gets a quality opponent. But by the time the
- 24:29Speaker 1: end of the year happens, if there's enough time, there's
- 24:31Speaker 1: five months left, so there's made no excuse. With that
- 24:34Speaker 1: being said, I hope he stays active because he's an actual,
- 24:38Speaker 1: really talented fighter. He's a guy that really has the
- 24:41Speaker 1: goods but huge But I don't know what's gonna happen
- 24:47Speaker 1: with all these different contracts being sided with different people,
- 24:52Speaker 1: Like you got Hani and others signed to disown. You
- 24:56Speaker 1: got guys on a ZUFA, you got people on Amazon,
- 24:59Speaker 1: you got people, we're kind of a little bit of everything.
- 25:01Speaker 1: I don't know if we're gonna get certain fights. It
- 25:03Speaker 1: feels like we're getting Hany and Keishawn Davis soon, so
- 25:06Speaker 1: that's gonna be cool. But with that being said, ideally,
- 25:11Speaker 1: in a perfect world we get two ZUFA guys against
- 25:13Speaker 1: each other, Chakor and Hitchens. But we'll see, we'll see,
- 25:18Speaker 1: we'll see. But there's definitely some big fights to be made,
- 25:21Speaker 1: and Hitchin's gonna be one of the guys that's a
- 25:23Speaker 1: part of it.
- 25:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I would. That's the kind of fight
- 25:27Speaker 2: that I call. Nothing super exciting, that like blew my
- 25:30Speaker 2: mind throughout the fight. But it was just consistently great
- 25:33Speaker 2: boxing all throughout. And that's cool too. You know, I'm
- 25:36Speaker 2: not criticizing the fighter. There's a lot of people to
- 25:39Speaker 2: do that that I don't like, whether they're like, oh,
- 25:41Speaker 2: but there's no knockouts, like yeah, but you just saw
- 25:42Speaker 2: an amazing fighter, or do his stick in the ring
- 25:44Speaker 2: for twelve rounds, you know, consistently. But Richardson, Hitchins called
- 25:49Speaker 2: out Devin Haney called out Tank. He called it Brian Garcia.
- 25:54Speaker 2: Do you think he's at a point now where he
- 25:55Speaker 2: could take on a fight with either of those two
- 25:57Speaker 2: guys based on what you saw?
- 25:58Speaker 1: We asked, we have to see it. That's the thing.
- 26:00Speaker 1: We need to see it because right now we don't
- 26:02Speaker 1: know how we have a measuring and stick for him.
- 26:04Speaker 1: He hasn't fought anyone that's like, oh my god, that's
- 26:07Speaker 1: a super serious fight where he's in danger or there's
- 26:09Speaker 1: even any doubt, like, we need to see him versus
- 26:12Speaker 1: a quality opponent, but we have to. If not, then
- 26:14Speaker 1: we're kind of wasting our time here. I hope. I
- 26:17Speaker 1: hope ZUFA doesn't do is have him been another fight
- 26:20Speaker 1: similar to this one where they're just milking it to
- 26:23Speaker 1: where it's just, oh, he fought again, but is not
- 26:26Speaker 1: a no name person. I hope they don't do that.
- 26:27Speaker 1: I hopefully he does fight a name person. Even if
- 26:30Speaker 1: he took the rest of the year off and fought
- 26:32Speaker 1: somebody in January, I'd be cool with it. But we
- 26:34Speaker 1: got to see him fight somebody of calary because we're losing.
- 26:38Speaker 1: We need we need bigger fight and more. We need
- 26:40Speaker 1: to see guys fight each other to the point where
- 26:43Speaker 1: if there's a close fighter's rematch, we need to get
- 26:45Speaker 1: back to that. It's been a while since we've gotten
- 26:47Speaker 1: that kind of fight and we need that. That helps
- 26:50Speaker 1: the sport. So we shall see.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the thing that worried me about him signing
- 26:54Speaker 2: with ZUOFA. They just kind of keep stretching things out,
- 26:56Speaker 2: kind of putting you know, oh, it's a name that's popular,
- 26:59Speaker 2: and of course we're gonna into watch like obviously, but
- 27:02Speaker 2: at some point you're like, if this guy's the real deal,
- 27:04Speaker 2: he has to prove himself and you got to put
- 27:06Speaker 2: him in the ring with somebody that you know will
- 27:08Speaker 2: definitely get show him some adversity, and yeah, I we
- 27:14Speaker 2: can't be dilly deallying on all of these things, you know.
- 27:16Speaker 1: I I don't.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Know how long typically like after signing a Chakur that
- 27:21Speaker 2: you know, a fight of his should be announced. But
- 27:24Speaker 2: I've already like a patient. I'm like, why haven't we
- 27:26Speaker 2: heard a name?
- 27:27Speaker 1: You know? And the or fighting is not like a
- 27:31Speaker 1: name name, So it's like, I like, what's going on?
- 27:35Speaker 1: So we'll see, we'll see. I mean, here's the thing.
- 27:38Speaker 1: As long as there's ansistent fights and they're on, they're watchable.
- 27:42Speaker 1: I can live with that for the time being. But
- 27:45Speaker 1: this year is I keep hearing these boxes talk and
- 27:47Speaker 1: they're talking more than they're fighting, especially the quality opponents.
- 27:50Speaker 1: That's what bothers me a bit. But you know, it's
- 27:52Speaker 1: it's cool. We got guys fighting the last like six weeks.
- 27:56Speaker 1: We've got to fight damn every weekend. I appreciate that
- 27:58Speaker 1: we got another one coming up. This you can't sell
- 28:00Speaker 1: if it's really good. It's really good to see.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely, And I'm happy to have more fights. Here's
- 28:07Speaker 2: the thing. I'm happy to have a fight every weekend,
- 28:09Speaker 2: even though it's with you know, guys that are less
- 28:11Speaker 2: lesser known names and that obviously. I saw Julil Hackett
- 28:14Speaker 2: and it was awesome. I didn't know who the hell
- 28:15Speaker 2: he was. What I don't want is for specifically the
- 28:19Speaker 2: promotion companies like Suit the same. We're gonna we're gonna
- 28:22Speaker 2: be the best. We're gonna show you the best fights
- 28:25Speaker 2: you've ever seen. It'll knock your socks off. And I'm like,
- 28:29Speaker 2: stop be apping, give me name versus name and an
- 28:32Speaker 2: eight right right? So uh yeah, that's what bothers me.
- 28:36Speaker 2: That bothers me more than fighters talking, because you know,
- 28:40Speaker 2: fighters always can say what they want to do and
- 28:42Speaker 2: things fall through. But it's not like the names aren't there.
- 28:44Speaker 2: It's like, uh yeah, getting Devin Haney and Keishan will
- 28:48Speaker 2: be awesome. Ryan Garcia is already you know, scheduled, but
- 28:54Speaker 2: if you got hitches into, you gotch court. And nothing's
- 28:56Speaker 2: been announced for their next event, Like, come on, guys,
- 28:59Speaker 2: let's let's make something happen here. Let's go let's chick
- 29:00Speaker 2: a leg.
- 29:02Speaker 1: It don't work that way, though. There's a lot of
- 29:04Speaker 1: reasons why things get done the way they do. Like
- 29:08Speaker 1: I get if I'm a zufa, I'm not trying to
- 29:11Speaker 1: put anyone in danger unless I have to rabbin a milk.
- 29:15Speaker 1: So think about like this real quick. If you have
- 29:18Speaker 1: Skoro's probably the best boxer in your company. He's the
- 29:22Speaker 1: biggest draw right you can put you can put main
- 29:27Speaker 1: events around him two or three more times without him
- 29:31Speaker 1: facing someone that can beat him or even challenge him.
- 29:35Speaker 1: That's just from the business. I'm not saying it's right.
- 29:36Speaker 1: I'm saying business wise, you can feature him, main event him,
- 29:40Speaker 1: et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. Same thing with Hitchins.
- 29:43Speaker 1: You can kind of do the same thing where he
- 29:45Speaker 1: fights maybe an older veteran guy that don't have anything
- 29:48Speaker 1: left whatever, whatever, before you get him in the in
- 29:51Speaker 1: the ring with somebody that can challenge him enough. So
- 29:53Speaker 1: I get what they're doing. I know what they can do.
- 29:55Speaker 1: Business wise, however, I think is baby steps, cause I
- 29:58Speaker 1: think everyone's kind of learning as we go with this
- 30:01Speaker 1: new structure. It's not h field, is not a showtime.
- 30:04Speaker 1: A lot of the older promoters are not the same,
- 30:06Speaker 1: So I think right now they're looking at how to
- 30:08Speaker 1: maximize how much money resources out of everything while also
- 30:13Speaker 1: putting together fights. So I'm going to get the benefit
- 30:15Speaker 1: of it out for now because I know it's a
- 30:16Speaker 1: lot going on. But I do feel with way the
- 30:19Speaker 1: money is going, we're gonna see bigger fights eon later.
- 30:24Speaker 2: Yeah, and I totally get what you're saying about kind
- 30:27Speaker 2: of setting somebody up, you know, and getting more fights
- 30:30Speaker 2: out of somebody. My thing is that I'll be tuning
- 30:35Speaker 2: into some course evens this next fight. But give me one,
- 30:38Speaker 2: you know, like I said, give me a name, give
- 30:39Speaker 2: me a date, even if it's not the greatest, you
- 30:41Speaker 2: know thing ever, I just want to see. I just
- 30:44Speaker 2: want to see some movement.
- 30:45Speaker 1: You know.
- 30:45Speaker 2: There's a lot of talking, not enough movement, especially specifically
- 30:48Speaker 2: from ZUFA. So, like I said, I'll give credit credits.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Due Is had some good fights on the event, but
- 30:55Speaker 2: there's still a lot more to be said before I
- 30:57Speaker 2: can say that they're an impressive enterprise that makes sense.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, definitely definitely.
- 31:02Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I always I always try to be
- 31:04Speaker 2: fair but also being very realistic. You know, there's a
- 31:07Speaker 2: lot of data white fanboys that are just he can
- 31:09Speaker 2: do no wrong, and I'm like, well, yeah, you gotta
- 31:12Speaker 2: you gotta give you a reason here.
- 31:14Speaker 1: How much influence does he have on these fights?
- 31:18Speaker 2: I mean, that's the thing we'll never know because money talks,
- 31:20Speaker 2: and he's back by the Saudi So like, why why
- 31:22Speaker 2: does he have all of it?
- 31:23Speaker 1: Is he involved in the making the fights? He just
- 31:26Speaker 1: there as a face of the situation, like that'd be
- 31:30Speaker 1: My question is like how involved is he Because he's
- 31:33Speaker 1: not a boxing guy and he's a money you know,
- 31:37Speaker 1: he's a promoter. He doesn't do boxing, and it feels
- 31:40Speaker 1: like the money comes from the Saudis, So I don't know.
- 31:43Speaker 1: His role is very odd to me.
- 31:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean his role is there to make money
- 31:50Speaker 2: off of the sport.
- 31:50Speaker 1: But no, I get that probably help with the paramount
- 31:52Speaker 1: plus deal, So I get all that. So I trust
- 31:55Speaker 1: to understand. It's more of a like when you look
- 31:56Speaker 1: at the equation everything right, you uh al sheik who
- 32:01Speaker 1: puts the money in venues together at times you are
- 32:04Speaker 1: got paramount plus together, you have the some of the
- 32:07Speaker 1: promoters on the same page. It is not a promoter
- 32:09Speaker 1: for boxing, so he doesn't have It's like UFC incas
- 32:13Speaker 1: throwing boxers now all of a sudden. So it's just
- 32:15Speaker 1: interesting to see his role while we look at it.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Where does he really come to play it now? If
- 32:19Speaker 1: he's just in the on the board of zoof, all right, cool,
- 32:23Speaker 1: that's fine. But it's interesting, see because he doesn't really
- 32:26Speaker 1: do anything with boxing. If you look at like that.
- 32:29Speaker 2: Well sure, but I guess I don't see that as
- 32:31Speaker 2: being as much of a problem because it's not hard
- 32:33Speaker 2: to find out, especially these days, like who the big
- 32:36Speaker 2: names are, who's got hype and who's got popularity because
- 32:38Speaker 2: we don't have as many you know, yeah, on this show,
- 32:42Speaker 2: we keep bringing up the same deb guys. Devin Haiti, right, Garcia,
- 32:44Speaker 2: you know what I mean? I was so fucking stoked
- 32:47Speaker 2: and learn it. There was a guy named Jalil Hackett
- 32:49Speaker 2: who fights who's talented, right, so I can follow? So yeah,
- 32:53Speaker 2: I mean, and then Turkey La Shik you know what again,
- 32:55Speaker 2: whatever you want to say about his motives for getting
- 32:58Speaker 2: into sports, I mean, he also seems to know which
- 33:01Speaker 2: fights are popular and which fighters would make money. You know,
- 33:03Speaker 2: he put together beef all better be you know, Crawford Canelo.
- 33:08Speaker 2: I don't think it's hard to really. I also put
- 33:11Speaker 2: it to you this way. If somebody really wants to
- 33:13Speaker 2: learn about boxing and doesn't know much about it, first
- 33:16Speaker 2: things they should do is make sure they follow this show.
- 33:19Speaker 2: But you can do enough research and talk to enough
- 33:20Speaker 2: people where you can get like top tier names, you
- 33:22Speaker 2: know what I'm saying.
- 33:23Speaker 1: And yeah, yeah, I agree there.
- 33:27Speaker 2: So even if they told they know I put together
- 33:29Speaker 2: a really a very important fight with big names that'll
- 33:33Speaker 2: be a big draw. Like you got people, you can
- 33:36Speaker 2: figure it out. You know, it's like a scene you
- 33:39Speaker 2: can kind of get your bearings in. Again, that may
- 33:43Speaker 2: not be the best thing to say about boxing because
- 33:46Speaker 2: we don't have that many bixars, that many big names,
- 33:50Speaker 2: But yeah, that's we'll see. I mean, I I'll say
- 33:54Speaker 2: this as long as paramoun Plus isn't shitty. Lagging has issue.
- 34:00Speaker 2: You know, all tuned into our Zua fights on Sundays.
- 34:02Speaker 2: You know now that I actually sat down to watch one.
- 34:05Speaker 2: I just needed to get my brain around the fact
- 34:07Speaker 2: that boxing was on Sunday night, which is not it
- 34:09Speaker 2: wasn't clicking for a while.
- 34:10Speaker 1: It was because there's nothing else on, Like, that's the thing.
- 34:13Speaker 1: It actually makes way more sense than the summer because
- 34:15Speaker 1: the baseball games in early except for one, and there's
- 34:18Speaker 1: nothing else on, so it actually makes total sense. Now,
- 34:21Speaker 1: if you're on the East Coast, you're probably pissed because
- 34:24Speaker 1: I've got work the next morning. A fight coming on
- 34:26Speaker 1: at seven eight pm our time is you know, damn
- 34:29Speaker 1: near midnight their time. But by the time it ends,
- 34:32Speaker 1: I could be a bit frustrated by that. Before us
- 34:34Speaker 1: on the West coast seven eight o'clock, there's nothing else
- 34:36Speaker 1: on else going on, so it all works out.
- 34:40Speaker 2: Actually, that reminded me something too that I noticed watching
- 34:43Speaker 2: Sunday night is that the vibes were off. The crowd
- 34:46Speaker 2: wasn't as like rowdy or excited. I really thought it's
- 34:49Speaker 2: because of Sunday night. People can't get wasted because they
- 34:51Speaker 2: got to get up early the next day, right, that
- 34:53Speaker 2: is even in the summer. That you're correct, Yeah, I definitely.
- 34:57Speaker 2: It definitely stuck out to me. I was like, nobody's
- 35:00Speaker 2: you know, sitting here like you know, just yelling, screaming,
- 35:02Speaker 2: you know, like we would see on a typical Saturday
- 35:05Speaker 2: night fight.
- 35:05Speaker 1: People get we're more.
- 35:08Speaker 2: Lively for the berlanga thing because you know, they started
- 35:10Speaker 2: throwing but that was to be said, but I just mean, overall,
- 35:14Speaker 2: it seemed kind of tame. It's like when you watch
- 35:17Speaker 2: now yeah in a way fight in Japan, and the
- 35:18Speaker 2: Japanese crowds are more reserved, you know, polite, and they're applauding,
- 35:22Speaker 2: but nobody's like, you know, just like throwing beer everywhere
- 35:26Speaker 2: because they're so jumping up and down, you know what
- 35:27Speaker 2: I mean. But that's just something I noticed anyway, just
- 35:32Speaker 2: really quickly again, because we've been talking about this fight
- 35:34Speaker 2: for god, it feels like a month now. I want
- 35:37Speaker 2: to say this is probably my one of my most
- 35:39Speaker 2: anticipated fights this year is Lamont Roach coming back to
- 35:42Speaker 2: fight William Tibda for two reasons. One because I really
- 35:46Speaker 2: really want Lamont Roach to get his due and get
- 35:49Speaker 2: a w and be a star. Plus this fight is
- 35:52Speaker 2: another one of the monthly TNT fights, which will be
- 35:55Speaker 2: on regular ass TV, basic cable, and I'm already kind
- 35:59Speaker 2: of trying to figure out where I'm gonna go Saturday
- 36:01Speaker 2: night and ask a bartender to change the channel for
- 36:03Speaker 2: me if they're if that's not on. So yeah, for
- 36:07Speaker 2: me personally, you can say whatever lamont Roach to pay
- 36:10Speaker 2: the you know, mid name guys, nobody cares. I've kind
- 36:13Speaker 2: of put a lot of stock in this fight. I've
- 36:15Speaker 2: become very personally excited about it, especially because the mount
- 36:19Speaker 2: Roaches was like the underdog to end all underdogs this
- 36:22Speaker 2: last year. And also I feel I do feel a
- 36:26Speaker 2: bit bad for saying Tank versus Roach man who gives
- 36:29Speaker 2: a shit and just yeah talking about that fight.
- 36:34Speaker 1: But good thing, But no, that's how it goes. But no,
- 36:37Speaker 1: it's I like to see Roach put together a solid fight.
- 36:39Speaker 1: I mean it's one of those fights where if he
- 36:41Speaker 1: wins this one, he gets he's in talks getting other fights.
- 36:43Speaker 1: So it's gonna be interest to see what happens. I mean,
- 36:46Speaker 1: this is the guy that could fight at Richard Hitchin's
- 36:49Speaker 1: or whoever likes. It's just good to see you know
- 36:53Speaker 1: guys figure it out, put it together. Having back to
- 36:56Speaker 1: back draws versus two different fighters is interesting though, so
- 37:00Speaker 1: we'll see hopefully he can avoid a third one. But
- 37:02Speaker 1: this was a very interesting last Well.
- 37:06Speaker 2: The thing isn't just that he had back to back draws,
- 37:08Speaker 2: is that he had back to back draws draws against
- 37:11Speaker 2: very aggressive knockout artists who can who dominate most of
- 37:16Speaker 2: the time, and that to me, you know, I shouted
- 37:20Speaker 2: out Jelly Hackett for having an amazing performance, you know,
- 37:23Speaker 2: consistently kicking asses and that. But I guess, like emotionally,
- 37:26Speaker 2: like I said, it's cool to see Lamont Roach as
- 37:29Speaker 2: the underdog could hold his own and hopefully learn from
- 37:32Speaker 2: these two. Like if he, you know, gets at l
- 37:35Speaker 2: and or gets another draw and just doesn't step up
- 37:37Speaker 2: his game, I'll be like, all right, Roach, we tried,
- 37:39Speaker 2: we everybody tried to hype you up, and we really
- 37:43Speaker 2: wanted to see you, you know, succeed. But but like
- 37:46Speaker 2: we have always said, with the greats, they adjust, they learn,
- 37:48Speaker 2: and they come back better. So he definitely he set
- 37:51Speaker 2: himself after the fight with Pipole Cruises. What's next, he said,
- 37:55Speaker 2: back to the drawing board, and you know what, good good.
- 37:59Speaker 2: I want to see what he learned, and I want
- 38:01Speaker 2: to see him fighting Ah Williamsabette, who's a Mexican, who
- 38:04Speaker 2: is who fights in the Mexican style, you know again
- 38:06Speaker 2: very aggressive. Uh so, yeah, I want to see what
- 38:09Speaker 2: his defense looks like. And I just I would say
- 38:14Speaker 2: Lamont Roach is the fighter that I'm most curious to
- 38:18Speaker 2: see in the ring next, if that makes sense, Like
- 38:19Speaker 2: most curious about what he's going to look like after
- 38:21Speaker 2: the last two fights. But maybe maybe I'm overselling it.
- 38:25Speaker 2: Maybe I'm overhyping it, but like I said, that's me.
- 38:27Speaker 2: That's kind of one fight of hitch my wagon too,
- 38:30Speaker 2: so to speak. But but we've talked about the fact
- 38:33Speaker 2: that it's going to be on T and T, which
- 38:35Speaker 2: is very good for boxing, and I don't think is
- 38:39Speaker 2: there any other Jamison any other like sports going on,
- 38:42Speaker 2: the other events going on to this, like this Saturday,
- 38:44Speaker 2: this time of year.
- 38:45Speaker 1: Like baseball, Like baseball is the other sport that's in
- 38:49Speaker 1: full swing right now. College football starts in August, in
- 38:54Speaker 1: NFL starts in September, so right now, that's why we've
- 38:57Speaker 1: had events every weekend because there's nothing else on, and
- 39:01Speaker 1: then the rains are gonna do better because there's literally
- 39:03Speaker 1: nothing else on. So even on Saturday nights when most
- 39:07Speaker 1: of the baseball games end by seven pm our time's
- 39:11Speaker 1: it makes way more sense to have all these events.
- 39:13Speaker 1: This should be the blueprint going forward for boxing, from
- 39:16Speaker 1: Memorial Day to Labor Day. There should be Evince every Saturday,
- 39:20Speaker 1: every Saturday, but you know, hopefully don't get their own way.
- 39:23Speaker 1: But it's been a really good thing for boxing this summer.
- 39:27Speaker 2: Yeah, it's been amazing to watch as a fan. And
- 39:29Speaker 2: you know, like I've said before, you know, we didn't
- 39:32Speaker 2: even talk about the fact that Anthony Joshua came back
- 39:34Speaker 2: and you know, knocked it out. Yeah, we don't have to.
- 39:36Speaker 2: But the point is that, like that was another thing
- 39:39Speaker 2: that happened this weekend. You know, we had a lot
- 39:41Speaker 2: of things going on, and for the boxing world, the
- 39:43Speaker 2: more news, the more things to talk about, the better.
- 39:46Speaker 2: So I kind of hope that things don't slow down
- 39:50Speaker 2: to a crawl after this.
- 39:52Speaker 1: I mean, no, there's gonna be more fights because there's
- 39:55Speaker 1: more promotion, companies involved, and guys have gotten signed. Why
- 39:58Speaker 1: we still have roly and to your female fighting. We
- 40:02Speaker 1: got Ryank coming up fighting in September like that that
- 40:05Speaker 1: things ain't flowing down like and there's gonna be more announcements
- 40:08Speaker 1: coming on, so it's not necessarily slow down. This is
- 40:10Speaker 1: more of when they come on. There's any other events on,
- 40:13Speaker 1: so you come on in the fall, you got to
- 40:14Speaker 1: go audience college in the NFL, Like that's how it goes.
- 40:17Speaker 1: There's no way around that. But it's still cool because
- 40:20Speaker 1: Saturday Night is you know, for the most part, you're
- 40:24Speaker 1: still gonna get a pretty You have a pretty good
- 40:26Speaker 1: viewing lane when it comes to boxing, so you're good.
- 40:30Speaker 1: But yeah, I think we're on the path for the
- 40:33Speaker 1: rest of the year of fights getting set up, guys
- 40:35Speaker 1: staying active and going from there.
- 40:38Speaker 2: Yeah. And there was someone on Twitter talking about how
- 40:41Speaker 2: sales for Ryan Garcia versus Connor Ben we're already through
- 40:43Speaker 2: the roof for September twelfth.
- 40:45Speaker 1: I believe it was Ryan cheat code. Ryan is Mexican
- 40:49Speaker 1: and he is popular on social media as a cheat
- 40:53Speaker 1: code of boxing. You have those two, you're gonna do
- 40:56Speaker 1: very well numbers wise.
- 40:58Speaker 2: Well, And I'm wondering, you know, we were talking talking
- 41:00Speaker 2: a lot about like David bit Deavidez could be like
- 41:02Speaker 2: the new sinking to my guy, this and that. But
- 41:04Speaker 2: if they position Ryan Garcia in there as to be
- 41:07Speaker 2: the guy to take over the best events, like is
- 41:10Speaker 2: that going to work out? It seems it seems to
- 41:12Speaker 2: be working well for September.
- 41:13Speaker 1: I don't know. You gotta trust Ryan and Ryan's not
- 41:15Speaker 1: trustworthy because you'll win. Like being about to holiday fighters,
- 41:20Speaker 1: they're normally winners. The guys that usually have seven to
- 41:23Speaker 1: my ms and fens weekend, the usually winners. They win
- 41:27Speaker 1: and dominate their fights. Ryan don't do that. Ryan's don't
- 41:30Speaker 1: for sanni an more than winning. That's the problem. So
- 41:33Speaker 1: we got to see him get better as a boxer
- 41:36Speaker 1: if that matters to him. Now, selling out seats is cool,
- 41:40Speaker 1: but once you have a couple of losses, everybody's watching,
- 41:43Speaker 1: it's all slow down a bit. So we'll see, we'll
- 41:45Speaker 1: see what happens.
- 41:47Speaker 2: That's fair. That's a that's a really good point. I guess.
- 41:49Speaker 2: You know, being the draw and selling tickets can only
- 41:52Speaker 2: get you so far. If kind of the same thing,
- 41:53Speaker 2: if you're burning bridges and people are just showing up
- 41:56Speaker 2: to watch you get your asking. Uh. We also have
- 41:59Speaker 2: to remember too, Ryan won decisively and had a very
- 42:03Speaker 2: good performance against Mario Bodrios. But we talked about it
- 42:05Speaker 2: on the show before that. It was two losses in
- 42:07Speaker 2: a no contest right before that, So you can say
- 42:12Speaker 2: Ryan is back and yeah, and hey, I'm gonna tune in.
- 42:14Speaker 2: I'm excited for the fight. Don't get me wrong. But
- 42:17Speaker 2: you can't say that, like, we can't forget that that's
- 42:19Speaker 2: one fight away from that, you know, disastrous year that
- 42:22Speaker 2: he had, right, so let's let's uh, let's all, let's
- 42:25Speaker 2: all remember you know, what's what's going on with Ryan Garcia?
- 42:27Speaker 2: And yeah, I think to be able to bestow the
- 42:31Speaker 2: King of the Mexican Holidays, you have to expect him
- 42:35Speaker 2: to show up.
- 42:35Speaker 1: And you know, you gotta be you gotta be good,
- 42:38Speaker 1: like that's the thing you gotta be. You can't be mediocre,
- 42:41Speaker 1: Like I think that's what his issue, Like Cano was
- 42:43Speaker 1: one of the best ever. It was always one of
- 42:45Speaker 1: the best ever. Like those two are you know, they
- 42:49Speaker 1: do what they did for so long? Cool you live
- 42:52Speaker 1: with them. Even Paster prompts to having those days. But
- 42:55Speaker 1: Ryan Garcia is not the air parent for that unless
- 42:58Speaker 1: he gets way better than the ring and has more
- 43:00Speaker 1: sinnature wins and.
- 43:03Speaker 2: Uh, you know, if he does and he takes this
- 43:04Speaker 2: seriously and he takes the news, yes, we'd love to
- 43:08Speaker 2: have you, We'd love to be fans. But yeah, I was.
- 43:11Speaker 2: I wasn't praying for his downfall, but I was kind
- 43:13Speaker 2: of hoping that him losing the mound of bodies was
- 43:16Speaker 2: like kind of expose what this whole situation is with Brian.
- 43:19Speaker 2: But but then keep in mind too, that's his first
- 43:21Speaker 2: World championship, so now he has something to you know,
- 43:24Speaker 2: kind of fight for to to live up to. So
- 43:28Speaker 2: fingers crossed. But uh yeah, that's uh, that's a little
- 43:31Speaker 2: bit of ways away. So we're getting our head of ourselves.
- 43:33Speaker 2: But in the meantime, let's all tune in this Saturday,
- 43:38Speaker 2: August first on TNT to watch Lamont Roach fight Williamsbela
- 43:43Speaker 2: and you know, we'll have full coverage of that next episode.
