- 1:40Speaking of the Hammer, well, he doesn't need an ovation.
- 1:45And if he does, ladies and gentlemen, I can give it to him.
- 1:48He's a first time caller, first time guest on the show.
- 1:53Ladies and gentlemen, we are now talking to former Seattle
- 1:56Seahawks and Dallas Cowboy safety Ken the Hammer.
- 2:01Hamlin. Ken, what's up, buddy?
- 2:02I'm good, I'm good. How you doing?
- 2:04Like like. Shit happens, you know I.
- 2:06Mean. Yes, indeed.
- 2:08Like in Forrest Gump, you know, I don't know if that I trust
- 2:10that story to be true, but hey, if it's true, you know, he's
- 2:14made himself a lot of money. But Speaking of making yourself
- 2:17a lot of money, somebody on the Cowboys did not make himself a
- 2:21lot of money. As a matter of fact, he's no
- 2:22longer with that the Cowboys. Why do you think the Cowboys
- 2:26have not really found any cornerback help?
- 2:30I mean, they had digs. He was there for a what, a
- 2:33significant amount of time? He got a lot, a lot of money
- 2:36from the Cowboys. Had one good season.
- 2:38I think he had how many interceptions 7.
- 2:40Interceptions 11/11 in that one year.
- 2:43That one year, 11 interceptions, he was the one of the best
- 2:46corners and and ball Hawks in the in the NFL and then after
- 2:50that he was horrible. Well, he gambled on himself.
- 2:54He took a lot of chances. If you look at that year, he he
- 2:58gambled in in, in route, like just guessing routes and he
- 3:03guessed right a lot. But at the same time he gave up
- 3:05a lot of yards as well. So it's going to look good when
- 3:08you when you make the Pro Bowl, you're all pro and everything
- 3:10because you get the interceptions, but you know,
- 3:13when you're playing that position it, it was a lot more
- 3:16of the the downside than it was upside for him.
- 3:19You know, especially moving forward past that year, he got
- 3:21the payday which he gambled. Well, he got the payday got got
- 3:25got 90 + 1,000,000, which you know, of course you want to do
- 3:30at that position, you want to get that payday because you
- 3:32never know if it's going to come back around.
- 3:34And in his case it might not come back around again because
- 3:38because of the gamble. So he he gambled and won, but it
- 3:42definitely didn't look good on on him being, you know, having
- 3:45longevity on that squad well. Speaking of longevity, and he
- 3:50gambled as his brother Stefan Diggs with him and Cardi B.
- 3:53I'm just kidding. I'll throw myself, I'll throw
- 3:55myself off that one. I don't want to get myself into
- 3:58trouble, but. Yeah, speaking.
- 4:00Speaking of corners right now in the NFL, who do you think is the
- 4:03best corner in the NFL and why do you think he's the best
- 4:06corner in the NFL? That's, that's kind of you, you
- 4:09got, you got the corner in Denver, in Denver, who is
- 4:15probably the most elite? Patrick Chen, right, Sir Tan,
- 4:21Sir Tan, Young Sir Tan, who's probably the the most elite
- 4:26young talent. You got another one in in New
- 4:29England. Gonzales, who is he, has proven
- 4:32that he can be in that conversation a little bit.
- 4:37Stingley. Guys like so.
- 4:39Stingley. Stingley.
- 4:41Stingley's in that conversation too, I think.
- 4:43I mean, of course, I put I think Stingley, he has a little lapse
- 4:47here and there, but his game is, is is up there with Gonzales and
- 4:52with certain I I certain I think that they you got a good four or
- 4:56five that are in that elite status.
- 5:00And then you got some younger ones that are, you know, that
- 5:03are that are making their name, that their their their name is
- 5:06starting to ring a little bit more than you have to sort of
- 5:08see is a is a is a sauce coming back to.
- 5:11I was just going to say that what what what's going on with
- 5:14Sauce Garner? I mean, The Jets traded them for
- 5:16two first round draft picks. I think they robbed the
- 5:18Indianapolis Colts because as soon as he got traded, The Jets
- 5:22got two first round draft picks and he was out after three games
- 5:25and really did nothing for Indianapolis as they really they
- 5:29they bet on themselves. They were felt.
- 5:31Yeah, they were in that situation where they were like,
- 5:34all right, we're we're looking at possibly making a run for the
- 5:36playoffs. And everything went downhill
- 5:39after that because Sauce got hurt, Dana Jones got hurt.
- 5:43They had a lot of bad things happening for their squad.
- 5:47Plus the offense didn't really produce outside of, you know,
- 5:50you got a running back that you can get it to and JT, but
- 5:54everything else wasn't as elite, especially later on in the
- 5:57season. So they had a lot of things go
- 5:59against them, you know, right after that trade.
- 6:00So I think a healthy sauce in that in that defense, they got a
- 6:04pretty good defense over there. So I think a healthy sauce next
- 6:06year in that defense, you'll be able to see if they really got
- 6:10something for what they gave up now for two first round picks.
- 6:14That's tough, but you helped out a jet squad that needed a lot of
- 6:21pics. They need a lot of help, so you
- 6:23helped them out. So it's almost like you gave you
- 6:25gave your guy a little a little tip whatever to be able to get
- 6:28some assistance because they needed it.
- 6:30So you're bad. You're.
- 6:31Hammering me in right now, as as you know or you don't know, I'm
- 6:34a Jet fan. So keep hammering me in.
- 6:36As we know, we call you Ken the Hammer Hammer.
- 6:39If it's true. You might as well use me as a
- 6:41nail and just hammer me in, you got.
- 6:44Me, hey, I mean, they, they made something about it.
- 6:47I mean, outside of outside of who knows who's, who's going to
- 6:50be the quarterback, you know, I mean, they, they, they, they got
- 6:55some, got a great stock. Now I don't know what they're
- 6:58going to do with it, but with the draft picks they, they've
- 7:00received, they, they have an opportunity to really swing it a
- 7:04different way, But you have to make a big decision.
- 7:07Aaron, Aaron Glenn is my guy too.
- 7:09So I mean, I, I want him to make a, a great move on this next one
- 7:13because your quarterback, whoever you're bringing in to
- 7:17sort of hold on until you bring that draft pick.
- 7:20It has to be the right one because this past year it just
- 7:23didn't fit with who you brought in with, who was actually
- 7:26organizing everything, the coordinators, everything didn't
- 7:29fit well with the Justin Fields situation.
- 7:32And that was, it was bad to watch.
- 7:34The same. At least it was.
- 7:36It was definitely bad to watch, Yeah.
- 7:37I want to go to your time with the Cowboys.
- 7:39You play with a easily Hall of Famer DeMarcus Ware.
- 7:42You play with another good safety and Roy Williams over
- 7:44there with the Cowboys and Wade Phillips.
- 7:46Over there. As a as a head coach, maybe
- 7:48wasn't the most amazing head coach, but amazing defensive
- 7:50coordinator. Obviously his father was great
- 7:51head coach too. What was that that experience
- 7:54with the Cowboys like in those NFC East rivalries, when the NFC
- 7:56East was probably at its peak? It was, it was, it was
- 8:00definitely tough. I mean, you think about at that
- 8:02time Washington wasn't a slack. You had the Giants who always
- 8:06bringing it and then the Eagles. I mean, so if you had, you had
- 8:10constant competition. And then Wade was a guy that was
- 8:14quiet. But when it came to defense, he
- 8:17knew. He knew how and what to put, you
- 8:19know, put guys in position to win and guys in in positions to
- 8:23make plays. Of course D Ware, I want to say
- 8:25during that time, me and D Ware probably played the most steps
- 8:28on defense. We didn't come out in my 3 years
- 8:32there on the defensive side, Roy Williams.
- 8:35I, I mean, when I signed, when I, when I got the opportunity to
- 8:38actually join the Cowboys, that was the one big plus.
- 8:42Like I get to play with, you know, alongside Roy Williams.
- 8:45And I've, I've seen him from college at Oklahoma to, you
- 8:49know, his early days in Dallas and then be able to join him.
- 8:53It was amazing. Then you have you add in a
- 8:56Terence Newman on one side, you you add in we had young guys who
- 8:59had just drafted a year after with Mike Jenkins, Orlando
- 9:02Scandrick, Anthony Henry was a veteran cornered a big corner
- 9:06that we had as well. Greg Ellis, another guy that was
- 9:11older guy, veteran, knew how to play the position and make
- 9:14plays. Then the younger guys on the
- 9:16inside, Marcus Spears. So you know, we had we had a
- 9:22very talented team. It was a young team though,
- 9:24regardless of experience wise, regardless of you know how much
- 9:28talent they said, well, we made it to the playoffs.
- 9:30I want to say that first year, you know, I want to say that I
- 9:34might have been one of the few that actually had long playoff
- 9:38experience and I was in my fifth year.
- 9:41So so it was it was tough to see a team like that not exceed, you
- 9:46know, a lot of the you know, where we ended up, you know,
- 9:50when we get to the playoffs and in the season, because we could
- 9:53have been a team that made a long run for it.
- 9:56But but we seen it during the game certain certain time.
- 10:00We didn't have that lasting peace to really put people away
- 10:06and and make the next move to the next level.
- 10:08So it was it was it was a great, great time and great experience
- 10:12with some great guys. But we definitely left left some
- 10:15games on the on the field that we should have been, we should
- 10:18have been in. We are talking to former
- 10:19Seahawks and Cowboy safety Ken the Hammer.
- 10:22Hamlin. Kenny, you were drafted by the
- 10:25Seattle Seahawks in the second round, 42nd overall in 2003.
- 10:29Tell us a little bit about the Seahawks organization.
- 10:32What was it like playing over there for the three years?
- 10:35What type of fans are there out there with the Seattle Seahawks
- 10:39fans? Listen, you you have to they're
- 10:42going to be if you can find me another another fan base that is
- 10:46that is on that level, then then we can we can have that
- 10:49conversation. But I think that the Seahawks
- 10:52from from back when I played even to today, they still hold
- 10:56true to being one of the one of the stadiums that is a real fan
- 11:02favorite type of stadium. They they come with it.
- 11:05This is not one of them where you got a whole bunch of
- 11:07corporate people sitting in the stands and they're just sitting
- 11:09back enjoying some drinks and watching the game.
- 11:11They're they're there to, to, to, to make a difference.
- 11:14They're there to to cause havoc and to cause confusion for for
- 11:18the other team. So it, it, it is an exciting
- 11:22stadium to play in. The fans are definitely
- 11:26committed to the team and to the players.
- 11:28And you know, it was, I mean, it was amazing.
- 11:31My first, my first year going there and sort of seeing the guy
- 11:36from Arkansas who's who's been who's from Memphis and then
- 11:39coming to the Northwest and then seeing just the just the the
- 11:43crowd appreciation of what they they felt I could bring to the
- 11:47table for, for the Seahawks was amazing. 2007 was a big year for
- 11:51you. You, you went to your first and
- 11:53only pro ball. What type of season was that
- 11:55with the Dallas Cowboys and why did you play at a top level from
- 12:00all the other years that you you you did play at a level that was
- 12:03sensational, but not at that kind of level at a pro ball
- 12:06style game. Well, I think it was I think it
- 12:08was a prove it season. You know, I I came off of some
- 12:12craziness that happened to me in Seattle and and almost where my
- 12:18career was over with very short. So this this was my my year to
- 12:25prove it to myself, prove it to the coaches, the owners, Jerry
- 12:29and everybody that I that I could play this game and play
- 12:32it, you know, play it longer than then.
- 12:35Then you know what people that some had expected, because just
- 12:38a year prior to that, I mean, I was almost I was told that I
- 12:41wouldn't play again. So it was a lot leading into
- 12:44that, that that first year in Dallas to where I'm like, OK, I
- 12:49have an opportunity to prove that, you know what, I belong
- 12:52here. I belong in the game.
- 12:53I belong a starter. I there's a lot of different
- 12:55things. And so that year was just a
- 12:58grinded out. It was a fun year because of
- 13:01course you got all these, it's almost like, you know, you get a
- 13:04new car, you got all the new toys.
- 13:06So you had all these other guys you could play with and, and to
- 13:10play alongside. Like I said, a guy like Will
- 13:12Williams, where I can, I can see where he can add value to my
- 13:15game. I can add value to his game.
- 13:17And we could play it a certain way with the corners that we had
- 13:21and the communication that we had on the back end.
- 13:24And then, of course, the, the, the biggest, I guess bonus was
- 13:28having Todd Bowles in my, in my, in my office, in our room, in
- 13:31our meeting room, him being our DB coach, you know, the tidbits
- 13:36that he would give us, the different tips and different
- 13:38things that he would give us from a guy that's coming from a
- 13:40player player, you know, background.
- 13:44He knew certain things that we would be looking for.
- 13:46He knew certain things that would give us keys in the game
- 13:49to really take it away from now. Now we're not thinking anymore.
- 13:53Now we're not out here waiting for this to happen that once we
- 13:56see our keys, we're gone. And that made that year.
- 14:01I mean, it made it fun because now you can play a little bit
- 14:03more free. Now it's just not, you're just
- 14:05not just a free safety. You're, you're back there able
- 14:08to make plays and, and go and, and sort of cause 'cause chaos
- 14:12in certain areas. So that that year was very
- 14:16exciting and it was just a, a loose year of and let's show it
- 14:20like let's go like it's, it's everything's on the line.
- 14:22Let's go get it and and it proved in the stats defensively
- 14:27as a team, we were we were better.
- 14:30You know, I got I made plays we had in that year we had I want
- 14:35to say it ended up being like 11 guys in the Pro Bowl on that
- 14:39team. I'm.
- 14:39Looking at him so. Yeah, Yeah.
- 14:43So so to think like, you know, all the guys from all these
- 14:48different, you know, areas, I mean on the offensive side in
- 14:51every level, on the defensive side, in every level, you know,
- 14:54guy stepped it up and we made we made plays.
- 14:56Both of our safeties, me and Roy were in the Pro Bowl.
- 14:58You had D wearing Greg Ellis, both of our ends, they're in the
- 15:01Pro Bowl. You, I mean, so it was, it was
- 15:04exciting to sort of see Terrence Newman in the Pro Bowl.
- 15:08I mean, we had we had a lot of guys on the defensive side alone
- 15:12that, you know, they were making, they were making some
- 15:15great plays and and, and helping me on front end, Greg and
- 15:18DeMarcus Ware helping me make plays on the back end.
- 15:21The same thing vice versa. So it was an exciting year, so.
- 15:24I'm going to go to the Super Bowl run you had in Seattle in
- 15:27O5O6, or actually my first full year watching football that
- 15:29year. Your secondary probably not
- 15:32getting the same level of hype that the last two have, but you
- 15:34still have some good players. Well, Dion Grant was your
- 15:37partner on the other side who later came to the Giants and
- 15:39played very well over there at older age.
- 15:40And then a guy that was supposed to come on our show last year
- 15:43and gave me his e-mail and then ditched us was Marcus Trufant as
- 15:47one of the corners. So.
- 15:48So what was that season like as a whole for you at that
- 15:50defensive core? If we're talking about the O 6
- 15:54O7 Super Bowl against Pittsburgh, are we talking about
- 15:58an elderly one where I was? Because so I was a part of the,
- 16:03the Pittsburgh Seattle year of Super Bowl and that was the year
- 16:09I had my injury and it ended up missing the remainder of the
- 16:13season. So that was, that was a very
- 16:18tough one because you, you saw how they, how they, I'm on the
- 16:22sideline watching how they're attacking us and in the position
- 16:26that I would have been, you know, and you know, we had a
- 16:30younger guy we had at that time, we were down to Super Bowl week.
- 16:35We were down to our practice squad safety and one of the
- 16:38safety positions. He never played all year.
- 16:41He was a practice squad all year.
- 16:42And he was, he prepared the week of he's preparing for the
- 16:45biggest game of anybody's career and to never have played all,
- 16:50all year. So that was a tough one to watch
- 16:52and sort of see how they, they took advantage of that
- 16:55opportunity a little bit. But but again, that that just
- 16:59shows, you know, you got to have you got to have everybody ready
- 17:02to go. You got to have everybody
- 17:03regardless of first string, second string, third string,
- 17:05everybody has to be ready to go because the opportunity might be
- 17:08there and you have an opportunity to really make a
- 17:11name for yourself in that type of moment.
- 17:12So, but yeah, we came up short. It it, it, it sort of stuck in
- 17:17me a little bit because of me not being there.
- 17:20So he put another chip on my shoulder.
- 17:24We are talking to former Seahawks and Cowboy safety Ken
- 17:27the Hammer Hamlin, Kenny Seattle goes all the way to the Super
- 17:31Bowl this year and made an unbelievable run.
- 17:33Sam Darnold, who was seeing ghost in New York, he's jump
- 17:37shift on quite a few other organizations before he landed
- 17:41in this spot, signed a three-year, $100 million
- 17:43contract. And boy, oh boy.
- 17:45McDonald, who I thought was coach of the year of the team,
- 17:48defense, offense. I mean, this team was completely
- 17:52the most dominant team in the NFC and I think throughout the
- 17:55league went really just drove right to the the Super Bowl and
- 17:59ran over the the New England Patriots.
- 18:02When you look at this team and you try to compare them to the
- 18:05Legion of Boom, that team, the Russell Wilson team when they
- 18:09just went into New York and knocked off the Broncos and and
- 18:13probably the best offensive team at that point the NFL has ever
- 18:16seen. How do you compare these teams
- 18:18and who do you think would win if they played against one?
- 18:21Another he tried to cause some chaos.
- 18:26You know what defence. So let me say defensively,
- 18:32that's tough because you think about, you know, I think that
- 18:36the one thing about that that LL that that legion of legion of
- 18:40both that that team had a full secondary.
- 18:43Now this team, this this current Seahawks team has a hell of a
- 18:47hell of a secondary as well. But I mean, you think about
- 18:51having you, you got, you got 2 all pro safeties, you know, one
- 18:58if not 2 all pro corners on that squad.
- 19:01And then you, you look at this current team, they, they are,
- 19:04they are close. I wouldn't say they're close.
- 19:07They're very, very simple defensively, very similar.
- 19:10I think that this current squad has a more dominant front 4, But
- 19:16but that squad, it is where they had a dump like the defensively.
- 19:19I can't even say that one or the other.
- 19:21I, I, I think that they, they showed up this, this current
- 19:24Seahawks defense, I mean, they literally I, I got to see it
- 19:27first hand on they are, they are very dominant.
- 19:31They, they can play it a lot of different ways.
- 19:34They can stop the run. They definitely on the back end.
- 19:37You don't want to take too many chances in the past game because
- 19:39they have speed and skill. So defensively, I, I, it's
- 19:43almost, I'd have to say a wash, but I would give the older the
- 19:46the veterans a a little edge offensively got rust.
- 19:51And then you have Sam Donald who who's coming in on a he had to
- 19:55prove it because because of last year and how he didn't really
- 20:00put see it all the way through through the playoffs, But he
- 20:02came in. You have you use your weapons,
- 20:05you got JSN, you have a tight ends, the tight ends that you
- 20:08can use the big body receivers that you have a running game.
- 20:13And that was the one thing that I said about.
- 20:15Especially going into these playoffs with, with the a
- 20:18quarterback that you know has played great, but you still, you
- 20:22still got to wonder what's going to happen in the playoffs.
- 20:25You lean on your running game. I mean, listen, nobody takes it
- 20:29away from you that that you didn't have 304 hundred yards
- 20:32passing. If you win the Super Bowl, you
- 20:35still win the Super Bowl. But if you go out there and try
- 20:37to prove people wrong and making bad decisions as any other and
- 20:40throw a couple picks and lose the Super Bowl, then that's a
- 20:43whole other thing. They led and they they went
- 20:46behind a great running, running attack.
- 20:48You got the offensive line making, making holes for this
- 20:51guy. I mean, Kenneth Walker was
- 20:53running like he had to run. You didn't have your back up.
- 20:57He didn't have Charbonnet with it to to really do that 1-2
- 21:00tandem. He took it on his back and he
- 21:02went, we went with it and that's why he got the MVP.
- 21:05But I think that this these teams are similar in a lot of
- 21:08ways, but I'd hate to compare them and try to match one or the
- 21:12other. Come on, Ham, it would come on.
- 21:15Come on. It would be a hell of a game.
- 21:16OK, you know what I'd have to say?
- 21:18The elder. The elder team would beat the
- 21:20younger. Team all right, all right.
- 21:22That's fair. I had to say that all.
- 21:24Right. I, I disagree with you.
- 21:26I, I think that this younger team and I, I think McDonald is
- 21:30a younger Pete version. I mean, they're very similar.
- 21:34Marshawn Lynch and Walker, I mean, he, he made his best
- 21:37impression in the Super Bowl running all over that defensive
- 21:40line, probably the second best defensive line in football.
- 21:43Walker ran all over them and and he did his best version of
- 21:47Marshawn Lynch, who has done it. But is he Marshawn?
- 21:51Not yet is. He not OK, so so so if we're
- 21:54talking about they're playing this week, then they would.
- 21:57They, they never had a guy, they never had a guy like JSN.
- 22:02So no, they've never had a dominant force like that.
- 22:05And Cooper? Cup.
- 22:07Cooper cups pretty damn good too.
- 22:09Exactly. And I wanted to see that game,
- 22:11so I went to the. I was able to go to the game
- 22:14against the Rams and I wanted to see JSN up close.
- 22:19I wanted to see and of course I wanted to see Puka up close too,
- 22:23but I wanted to see what the challenge will be for that that
- 22:25defense against Puka. But I wanted to see what it
- 22:27looked like up close. So I'm like this guy makes it
- 22:30look easy. I mean, JSN makes it look easy.
- 22:34It's not like he's like overstretching and you know,
- 22:38pushing it and everything is in rhythm.
- 22:41It's a it's a smooth it is, I mean, it's almost poetic the way
- 22:46that he sit there and runs his routes and and knows when to put
- 22:49his hands up and knows how to how to move his body this way
- 22:52that it's it's great to see and it's great that he is a young
- 22:56talent that they're going to have on that squad for quite
- 22:59some time. Because of course they're going
- 23:00to show him up early. They're going to get him out of
- 23:04the way early, which they need to a couple of guys they got to
- 23:08get done early to get him out of the way.
- 23:09But that's going to be, that's going to be an amazing team
- 23:13that's going to be able to make another run for it in the very
- 23:16near future. Speaking of future Jerry Jones,
- 23:21this is a guy that I think has saved football.
- 23:25I don't care what anybody says about Jerry.
- 23:27I know he he's run the organization down to the ground,
- 23:30some people say, but this is a guy that saved football.
- 23:33He's the one who brought football new sponsorships and
- 23:37and pretty much try to sell the NFL.
- 23:39This is what I'm going to do. I'm going to bring a sneaker
- 23:41deal into the NFL and you can't stop me.
- 23:44If you try to stop me, I'm going to sue you back.
- 23:47And that's what he did. And if you never checked out the
- 23:49Netflix documentary, there's a great documentary, Ken, I know
- 23:53you checked it out because you were you were a cowboy at that
- 23:57time and and you actually know who Jerry Jones is.
- 24:00What type of owner is Jerry Jones?
- 24:02Tell the fans what type of personality is he off the field.
- 24:07I've been knowing Jerry ever since I was at University of
- 24:09Arkansas, so it's been quite some time, but he is it it.
- 24:16Most people don't understand it because they've been accustomed
- 24:19to seeing owners who never played the game actually played
- 24:24the game at a high level. Like, I mean, he was, he's a
- 24:27national champion in college football.
- 24:29Like he played the game, was a starter for multiple years.
- 24:33Like, so this guy has a different type of motive behind
- 24:37it. He has a different type of
- 24:38motive behind it. He, he actually wants to and
- 24:41feels like wanting to be out on the field.
- 24:43I think so many people are like, Oh, well, he, you know, he, he,
- 24:47he's too involved and he's just any other.
- 24:49Well, I would say sometimes whatever, that's a good thing.
- 24:53Because I mean, and, and again, there's some decisions that
- 24:56could be made here and there that that, you know, taking a
- 25:00back seat on. You can see it at a different
- 25:02view. And he could possibly do that at
- 25:04times to where it could make it a better thing.
- 25:06But I think that Jerry has done a lot for the game leading up to
- 25:12these last whatever 5 or 10 years to where his legacy is, is
- 25:16definitely it's definitely written now what he does with
- 25:21the remainder and how he's trying to live it out and and
- 25:24push to get another title if possible.
- 25:27Who knows what strings he's going to pull now.
- 25:29But I think that what he's done for the actual game of football
- 25:33and for the for the you think about the ownership, I mean, and
- 25:36what they what they have, they have, you know, maybe not even
- 25:40taking credit for, but what they get behind what he's done, they
- 25:45definitely, even if it might be quietly, they definitely they
- 25:48definitely do throw one of them a little fist up or fist pumps
- 25:52up for Jerry because of what he's done for the game and how
- 25:54he's moved it along. So I.
- 25:56Want to go to the safety position, which I think when you
- 25:59played it wasn't you and I are seeing a little more of those
- 26:01hybrid types now in today's game.
- 26:02For one, you play you obviously, yeah, you were, you were playing
- 26:06an arrow with a lot of the zone coverage.
- 26:07I think your scheme especially was like that, that Tampa 2 type
- 26:10style safety. Now you're seeing a lot more of
- 26:12those more versatile types of safeties.
- 26:14What are you, what are your thoughts?
- 26:16The way the safety position has developed really in this newer
- 26:19era of football? Well, I mean you can call it the
- 26:22left developed. The biggest thing is that, you
- 26:26know, offenses are going heavier, you know, 3434 wide.
- 26:32So you have to have, you know, now you're putting a lot of your
- 26:36corners who who would be true corners at the time, whatever.
- 26:39Now you're working them in at safety.
- 26:41You're playing them at that position because you know, the
- 26:43game is not what it was. I mean, you, you don't have to,
- 26:48you know, these, all these big hits that were once happening
- 26:51aren't happening like that anymore.
- 26:53It all the all the different physicalities of the game is a
- 26:56little bit different now. It's more about having the range
- 27:00and the speed and the, and, and the quickness to be able to do.
- 27:03Let me put you out here on on this third receiver.
- 27:05Let me put you out on this fourth receiver.
- 27:07Let me let you play this zone area.
- 27:09But it's what quicker receivers now.
- 27:11So there's different schemes in it.
- 27:15I think that we, we, you know, we look at the game now and and
- 27:18just see it at a different there.
- 27:20There isn't that one back that's running for, you know, 262730
- 27:24carries and he's your bell cow and just going to get it.
- 27:27There's a 2-3 back system. You got 3 to 4 wides non-stop.
- 27:33And then and then it's a quicker game as well.
- 27:35Guys are are moving, are moving the ball a little bit faster.
- 27:38So there's different things that has changed the game to make it
- 27:41more appeasable for the offense for sure.
- 27:45And it it it sort of handicaps the defense, especially on the
- 27:48back end a lot more because you can't you can't jam multiple
- 27:52times. You can't hit past the five.
- 27:56You can't, I mean, even the little the little tugs of war,
- 27:59the defense is going to lose. So there's certain things that
- 28:02that has changed. But I would say the skill, the
- 28:06skill of the corner has to be better, the skill of of the guy
- 28:09that's covering it, it has to be way better because of the
- 28:12limitations that you have. You have to be dialed in 100%.
- 28:16Your footwork has to be great and your hand placement has to
- 28:19be great because you you have to be precise with everything.
- 28:23All these guys are making a catch.
- 28:25You can't hit them as soon as they as soon as they catch the
- 28:27ball because of the defensive defensive this rule.
- 28:31So which I still don't get how to hell somebody's on the field
- 28:35and you get involved on the and you defenseless.
- 28:38But I mean, hey, it is what it is.
- 28:40The game has moved on past me and past that time, so you got
- 28:44to adjust with what's going on right now.
- 28:46Ken, Speaking of the game, I mean, a lot of people were
- 28:49shocked and and tell me if you can give me a hammer so I can
- 28:52nail this in to why the committee knows or doesn't know
- 28:57what they're doing. How does Bill Belichick not be
- 29:00inducted into the Hall of Fame as a first ballot Hall of Famer?
- 29:03The greatest I would argue, I can't stand Bill Belichick.
- 29:06He he coached the Patriots. I'm a Jet fan.
- 29:08I couldn't stand up. He chose 24 hours to leave The
- 29:12Jets to go and sign with the Patriots.
- 29:15And then we see this 2223 year, just absolute dominance of the
- 29:20New England Patriots and is all because of this guy.
- 29:22He's the one who drafted, yeah, Tom Brady.
- 29:24He's the one who built these teams and built these rosters.
- 29:27And this guy should be a first ballot Hall of Famer.
- 29:29How does the committee decide? Well, he's not good enough for
- 29:32us. Let's wait until next year does
- 29:34does this. Make any sense to you?
- 29:35It makes zero sense. You have guys who never put a
- 29:38jersey on, who never, who never coach played.
- 29:41Umm, you have guys who are making this decision that that
- 29:45shouldn't be making a decision not for, not for this.
- 29:49I look at the Hall of Fame and I, I might look at it
- 29:52differently than some of the other guys too.
- 29:53I, I feel like if you, if you are the elite of the elite in,
- 29:58in your group for a certain span of time, then yes, you get the
- 30:02nod and you get the nod quickly. Because right now when you make
- 30:05a move like that and don't put Belichick in, then you're
- 30:07basically telling me that Tom Brady's not a first Battle Hall
- 30:09of Famer because of whatever the reasoning behind that squad.
- 30:15And, and, and Belichick not getting it then then then he
- 30:19can't get in. Then the owner can't.
- 30:21So nobody should be getting in from, from, from this team,
- 30:24especially not first ballot. Owner shouldn't get first ballot
- 30:27coach, not first ballot player, not first ballot because of
- 30:31whatever the reasoning behind it.
- 30:33But there there's question marks on so many people in the league
- 30:37on different legal and, and, and, and field type and, and off
- 30:41the field. There could be.
- 30:43You can sit there and look at a lot of people and say, you know
- 30:44what, they shouldn't be in. But if we're talking about what
- 30:47they did for the game, how they impacted the game, how they were
- 30:51the elite of the elite at a certain span of time in the
- 30:54game, then you have to say that Belichick was that craft.
- 30:58Is that Tom Brady? Is that so Gronk is not first
- 31:01batter you'll be like this. Then you have to basically
- 31:03tilter it all the way down to all of them.
- 31:06Now everybody gets affected from that because you saying that
- 31:09this guy isn't, but this guy was in the same regime as, as, as
- 31:13the one you say is the greatest of all time.
- 31:16So you got to be careful with that and and these personal
- 31:20vendettas of, of why you don't want to bring him in.
- 31:23I had the same situation. Not for me, but when, when I
- 31:28look at Terrell Owens and Terrell Owens and you know, him
- 31:32not getting first ballot, but you have a guy, you have a guy
- 31:35like Calvin Johnson that gets first ballot.
- 31:37I mean, are we not looking at, you know, just the body of work,
- 31:40the, the, the and then just what he it just it just it just
- 31:44didn't make any sense or whatever.
- 31:45And this is what you'll get when you have people who when you
- 31:49don't even have a say as a player or or as an organization
- 31:53that so they should have it to where maybe you have the media
- 31:55to do it, but you've got the the current Hall of Fame guys should
- 31:59be able to have a say as well. You played against a lot of
- 32:01great wide receivers and I'm sure a lot of them spoke and and
- 32:06spoke like really like to talk on the football field.
- 32:09Tell me the guy that spoke the most as far as wide receivers
- 32:12that. Pissed you off?
- 32:13One and #2 Who's the best wide receiver one-on-one you ever
- 32:17played against? Well, I think the one, the one
- 32:20person that most would say that I had the most problems with
- 32:25when it comes to just on the field after the play, it would
- 32:30be, it'd be Isaac Bruce. We had our beefs, we had our
- 32:36prob, we had our during the play, after the play, all
- 32:39ongoing, year after year to the point where every week, and of
- 32:44course in Seattle, we play them twice a year, but every week
- 32:48they're they're they're, they're on our schedule.
- 32:52Our equipment guys would put his pictures up in my locker, all
- 32:55this different stuff. So I show up to work with all
- 32:57this stuff because they knew what was about to happen in the
- 32:59game. And so I would say that's one
- 33:03that became a problem and then the toughest to face.
- 33:09One-on-one, who was the. Guy, I would say early in my
- 33:12career, oh man, that's tough to say.
- 33:16That's a tough one. I could go young Larry
- 33:20Fitzgerald, I could go middle of his career, Steve Smith, Santana
- 33:29Moss, little guy, of course, the the Holt and the Tory, the Tory
- 33:34Holt and and Isaac Bruce combination with the Rams.
- 33:38And then you add Marshall Faulk into that situation.
- 33:43You're about to give me PTSD, but I'm about to get PSTD,
- 33:47whatever the crazy is, whatever, because I'm starting to think
- 33:49about all these different PTSD, think about all these different
- 33:53guys that I had to face. I'm surprised nobody's asked you
- 33:55that question. That's crazy.
- 33:57I think about it that that is AI mean.
- 34:00We we've had quite AI mean. Sheesh.
- 34:04I have run insurance with AI mean and then just the
- 34:07combinations, you know, the the Reggie Wayne, Marvin Marvin and
- 34:13Marvin Harrison in in in Indianapolis.
- 34:17Of course, the Rams situation is already documented.
- 34:19But then you think of, then you think of big boys, Gonzalez,
- 34:24Tony Gonzalez, you know, at Kansas City and in Atlanta, My
- 34:29man at good Lord, I just lost his name that played for the
- 34:33Chargers, Antonio Gates, tight end.
- 34:36Antonio Gates. Yeah, Antonio Gates, it's
- 34:39another guy, the younger, you know, you think of like Jeremy
- 34:44shocking those guys. Whatever.
- 34:45You had a favor. But we had, I mean, I had
- 34:46combination of players where it's like, you know, all right,
- 34:49this is gonna be a problem. Tori Holt, not in the Hall of
- 34:52Fame, Reggie Wayne, not in the Hall of Fame, All these guys
- 34:56that you mentioned, not in the Hall of Fame.
- 34:58How does this make sense? I mean, it just Larry, Larry
- 35:02just got in on his first on his first ballot.
- 35:05Well, just got in, no question, no question.
- 35:11But it's going to be it's going to be hard.
- 35:17And, and because now they're they're doing this where they,
- 35:20they've cut the numbers of how many are going to go in.
- 35:23So I don't know what makes them decide that that's the number of
- 35:28people per year, but it's a lot, it's a lot of deserving and it's
- 35:31a. How about I go to the Hall of
- 35:32Fame? I mean, who, who, who cares?
- 35:35I I mean, they don't know who I am.
- 35:36I'll just go as a, you know, a broadcaster that nobody knows or
- 35:41hasn't heard of yet. Hey, I should go into the Hall
- 35:44of Fame, right? Now you're on your way, but
- 35:47you're on your way. I want to tell you something so
- 35:49you know, Ken, we were ranked 56th in the country, in all of
- 35:54the country when it comes to shows on Apple and Spotify
- 35:57today. Just so you know, hey, I'll give
- 35:59you a pound. I'll give.
- 36:01You a pound? Yeah, Yeah, it's pretty.
- 36:04Fun. It's pretty.
- 36:05Crazy, So you are on your way. We're on our way.
- 36:07Yes, we're on our way. There we go, there we.
- 36:09Go I don't want to sing anything song.
- 36:12We're all for the rainbow. I don't want to scare anybody
- 36:16with that, but you know if I'm over the rainbow yet, Yes, there
- 36:20is a light at the end of the tunnel, but we are right.
- 36:23There, yeah, there is a light. Yeah, there is a light.
- 36:24And Speaking of the light, I need a hammer and we've got you.
- 36:28So if you need anybody to knock somebody out because I'm, you
- 36:32know, I could do it myself, but I, I need a bodyguard.
- 36:35I'll go to Kenny the Hammer. Hammer.
- 36:37Or either hammer or knock Rick D Pietro on the head.
- 36:39I mean, I think I think that's true.
- 36:42That's true too. But as, as far as my I'm
- 36:45concerned, when when Woollen was doing the stupid stuff on on the
- 36:48field when it when it came to the Rams, I'm sure you wanted to
- 36:51give him the hammer because he almost cost the Seattle Seahawks
- 36:54an opportunity to play in the Super Bowl.
- 36:56So let me tell. You something?
- 36:57Yeah. Woollen needs to keep himself,
- 36:59you know, and he's going to make himself a lot of money this
- 37:01offseason, if it's not from Seattle, from somebody else.
- 37:04But Seattle's going. To no for sure.
- 37:06Yeah, he's going to make himself a lot of.
- 37:07Money they they got to pay Witherspoon, so it's going to be
- 37:11tough to pay both of them. But Witherspoon, he's going to
- 37:14get probably the bigger, bigger deal.
- 37:16I mean, that's first three years in the league, 3 Pro Bowls
- 37:19back-to-back to back. Yeah, you're going to you're
- 37:22going to get a you're going to get some attention with that
- 37:24one. So we're going to see how they
- 37:25can work it all the way out with all the guys they have to sign.
- 37:28Isaac Bruce did get it in 2020, but.
- 37:30Isaac got in Tori Tori. Tori Holt didn't get it.
- 37:33Honestly, if you were to ask me who was better, Isaac Bruce or
- 37:36Tori Holt, I'm telling you, Tori Holt.
- 37:38No offense to Isaac Bruce, Tori Holt was the better wide
- 37:41receiver and with those championship teams, he was
- 37:44impossible to defend. So he was that guy that you just
- 37:48told Tori go out there and get the ball and he would go out
- 37:51there and get. The ball, it was a problem, yes.
- 37:53So. It was a problem.
- 37:54I couldn't stand watching the Rams in those times and they got
- 37:57robbed. Obviously, Spygate, this team
- 37:59should have won multiple championships with Kurt Warner
- 38:03and the type of talent that they had over there, so it was
- 38:07horrible. It was horrible to.
- 38:08See. Yeah, I mean, come on, man.
- 38:11I I think that Rams team could have competed against anybody of
- 38:14this time and even pastime type of teams and and that offensive
- 38:19line, I mean, ridiculous. That's good.
- 38:21Orlando Pace, remember him? I mean that guy.
- 38:24Was yes, he was a wall. He was a wall.
- 38:27Incredible. So, but Kenny, we enjoyed your
- 38:31interview. Let's get you on again.
- 38:33Let's let's interact with you. And I love your takes with the
- 38:38Bill Belichick and, and obviously pastime.
- 38:40I'm Jerry Jones. I, I stick up for Jerry Jones on
- 38:42the show all the time because I don't think people understand as
- 38:46much as you want to hate the Cowboys, you of course you're
- 38:48going to point the organization at Jerry Jones.
- 38:51But this is a guy that saved football.
- 38:53He changed football with endorsements and, and money.
- 38:56All the football endorsements that the NFL and sponsorships
- 38:59the NFL is getting. It's all because of Jerry.
- 39:02It's all because of Jerry. Nobody else, just like baseball
- 39:05was saved by George, George Steinbrenner.
- 39:07George Steinbrenner should be in the Hall of Fame, but he's not.
- 39:10But, but silic is after him throwing people under the bus or
- 39:14not sticking up for the steroid era.
- 39:16So I, I don't understand it. I don't get it.
- 39:19But guess what? That's why I talk.
- 39:21That's why I speak about sports, and that's why I'm a
- 39:23broadcaster. And that's why I handle it in
- 39:26many different ways. And I give them a nice hammer.
- 39:29And if I had a hammer, a big enough hammer.
- 39:31There we go. I'd.
- 39:33Be beating them all up. Beating them all up because they
- 39:36deserve a nice little nail in their coffin.
- 39:39What I mean it was. Funny.
- 39:40It was funny last year we actually had a guy who also
- 39:42played for the Seahawks and Cowboys after Your time and
- 39:44Robert Turbid and this was before Errol saw the
- 39:47documentary. He but he was trying to defend
- 39:49Jerry Jones and Errol actually attack you at that time.
- 39:51Couple bucks later, he saw the documentary.
- 39:53I didn't realize how important Jerry Jones was to the NFLII.
- 39:58Really didn't know. I mean.
- 39:59I was young, so I was a football fan and I I was a Jet fan and
- 40:04and I watched football. I also rooted for the Eagles
- 40:06because I was a Donovan McNabb fan.
- 40:07So I didn't really see what Jerry.
- 40:10Did behind the scenes and then when I got a chance to watch the
- 40:12documentary and see how he and yes, he ran Johnson out and
- 40:17maybe if Johnson was still there, they win more
- 40:19championships that quite possibly could have happened.
- 40:22But nevertheless, he is the one that redefined what the league
- 40:27has become these days. Take it, take whatever shot you
- 40:31want of him. He is the reason why football is
- 40:34where it is today. So Kenny, we really appreciate
- 40:37the time as always and we're looking forward to getting you
- 40:40on once again. Kenny the Hammer, Hamlin, ladies
- 40:44and ladies and gentlemen, give him a golf clap.
- 40:47Ladies and gentlemen, he was fantastic as always.
- 40:50We always get great guests. Speaking of fantasticness, we
- 40:54got Speedy 6 Pack of the Week. Let's have a sixer.
- 40:59Hey, who wants to play? Drink the beer.
- 41:01It's time for the Speedy 6 Pack of the Week.
- 41:07That was great. Kenny Hamlin is great.
- 41:09He really is. Yes, indeed, and.
- 41:12Thank you Nif, he was fantastic. Fish, you got a chance to bring
- 41:17up your your graphic for one more time.
- 41:18I know how much you. Busy all day today.
- 41:21You did like this graphic, so yeah, if we talk about the men's
- 41:24hockey, obviously the biggest gold medal.
- 41:26Earlier, I am a legend. US, like Errol saying in the
- 41:28Golf Club today, had a lot of other ones.
- 41:30One that we saw on Thursday. We'll start with in Alicia Lou
- 41:33with first woman's individual gold medal since Sarah Hughes
- 41:35back in 2002, someone that would just retired in 2022 after their
- 41:40the Beijing. Story by the.
- 41:42Way an amazing storyline fending off a couple really tough high
- 41:46scores in that individual program for the women's, but
- 41:49Alicia Liu really making Olympic history and seems to be one of
- 41:51the most likable Olympians on on that team as well.
- 41:54Special Think about it. She had to be perfect in a short
- 41:58program and her long program to win because there were so many
- 42:02good you young skaters and and she was up there and she wasn't
- 42:06even out of all three American skaters, she wasn't really the
- 42:10best one. I think Morgan was.
- 42:12I think she was supposed to win the gold if it was any American,
- 42:16but Lou really stood out. She she just really put on a
- 42:20show and she was perfect. Every one of her jumps, it was
- 42:23fantastic. And her artistry on On the Ice
- 42:27was sensational. She was sensational to watch.
- 42:29Yeah, the Blade Angels was. That was a trio that was trying
- 42:31to get all the hype, but the other two did not medal.
- 42:34Amber Glenn was fifth and I think the other one, the other
- 42:36Young 1 was. It was Amber Glenn.
- 42:38That's who they thought Glenn was supposed to be.
- 42:41The gold. Medal and that was the hype with
- 42:43the blade Angels. But Alicia Luke coming through
- 42:45congratulations to her. It wasn't amazing story too,
- 42:47like she didn't even want to. It's funny, she didn't even want
- 42:50to skate at certain points when she was at UCLA as well.
- 42:53She was. She just got back, got back into
- 42:56it even before that 2022 year as well.
- 42:58It was just fun to watch. I love when it comes to the
- 43:01Olympics, you love figure skating.
- 43:02Brittany was telling me the other day.
- 43:04She's like when she was a kid, that's all she used to watch
- 43:06with her grandmother. When the Olympics, Winter
- 43:08Olympics came around and even the Summer Olympics, she watched
- 43:11gymnastics. And then when the Winter
- 43:13Olympics, she watched skating, figure skating, because that's
- 43:16like the gymnastics of the Winter Olympics.
- 43:19And it was just fun to watch. Unfortunately, the men's gold
- 43:23medal, you know, gold medal, gold medal.
- 43:25What's his name again? Malin.
- 43:27Malin falls and he finishes an eighth.
- 43:29He was expecting to absolutely win the gold medal by at least
- 43:3340 points and he fell. He he fell on 2 quad jumps in
- 43:38the long program, which cost him a chance to win a gold medal.
- 43:41He'll be back in four years. We'll see if Luke comes back.
- 43:44She retired to come back. She won the World Championships
- 43:47and then wins the Olympics. 20 years old.
- 43:50She's still, she's actually younger than Malinin and she's
- 43:54she's a year younger than him. Does she come back to try to
- 43:56defend the gold medal? We'll see.
- 43:58But it's a great story. And, and, and I, I believe the
- 44:02ice dancers, they got absolutely, absolutely ripped
- 44:05off. Oh my God.
- 44:06Their final Olympics as a tandem married couple and and to fall
- 44:11short and only when the silver when they were by far the best
- 44:14skating team as far as the ice dancers are concerned.
- 44:17It was horrible to watch. And it just shows you that even
- 44:20being perfect, it doesn't seal the deal.
- 44:23And, and that's why the Olympic Committee needs to look at these
- 44:26these men and women that are voting and make sure that
- 44:29they're not going to be taking sides if they're.
- 44:33Respectable countries, yeah, I saw another graph on that too,
- 44:36which was funny. Obviously they showed this big
- 44:38skew and then the French judge that was part of the
- 44:41investigation, there was just one other judge, I think it was
- 44:43the 4th judge that didn't vote anybody good too.
- 44:45So even if he just did a little something, they should have
- 44:47watched. It was horrible to watch, it
- 44:49really was. But again, this is the Olympics
- 44:52and you want to compete and that's what you want to see.
- 44:54And unfortunately, you didn't get a chance to see the two of
- 44:58the best skaters we've ever seen as far as ice dancers are
- 45:02concerned. And go check the documentary of
- 45:04ice dancing on Netflix. It's a sensational documentary.
- 45:07So check that out. It's just said that the two best
- 45:11in the world fall short and and their Olympic careers and
- 45:15they'll make themselves a lot of money through sponsorships and
- 45:18dancing for Disney and, you know, skating around the country
- 45:21and the world as professionals. But sad to go, sad to go.
- 45:25All right, Speaking of wealthy, let's move on to the the
- 45:27actually the highest earning Olympian who's not an American
- 45:30but was born in America and affected to China.
- 45:33That's Eileen Goo. She wins in the woman's halfpipe
- 45:36for China. Alex Ferreira though on the
- 45:38men's side, gets his first ever gold medal for the United States
- 45:40and X game winner. He's had a couple Olympic medals
- 45:43but never got the gold, finally getting it just edging out
- 45:46Canada, which actually the the Canadian candidate his name is.
- 45:48Macklin looked pretty good in that one too, but Ferreira does
- 45:52win it with a 93.36. Surprise.
- 45:55I mean, nobody thought that Ferreira was going to win.
- 45:58It was the Canadian kid, the Macklin kid who has been favored
- 46:02to win the half pipe and he it was Ferreira just pulled off an
- 46:07unbelievable jump, which one of the gold medal.
- 46:10So congratulations to Ferreira and all the gold medals, all the
- 46:14civil and silver and and bronze medalist that have competed for
- 46:18Team USA and all of the competitors from each and every
- 46:21country. It was fun to watch, it really
- 46:23was. Yeah, I'll comment on Ferreira
- 46:24too, because again, a lot of his hype came from the X Games, a
- 46:26lot like Shaun White in the beginning of his career, and I
- 46:29think now you're seeing it more him later in his career get that
- 46:32kind of recognition as well. And on the other side too, with
- 46:34Eileen Goose, she actually was bad her first two runs, but the
- 46:36way that run works, you get a third chance to just take the
- 46:39best score and rally back as well to win that one.
- 46:42Chloe Kim didn't compete in that one, but she got silver in one
- 46:44of the other ones too. So give her give her a shout out
- 46:47as well. All right, let's go to Michaela
- 46:49Schifrin. We talked about it last week.
- 46:50She didn't medal her 1st 2:00, but she dominated her last run
- 46:53in individual slalom, winning by almost 1/2 of a second.
- 46:57And now it's four medals, the most ever for an Olympic women's
- 47:01gear and only two behind Bodie Miller for the most all time.
- 47:03But she's the most gold. Is this her last Olympics too?
- 47:06I don't. I don't think it has to be
- 47:07because she's 30. I think she could still do one
- 47:09more. A lot of times with the
- 47:10endurance sports, you can still do that.
- 47:12Well, there are people that said that, that she might be thinking
- 47:15of retirement now, Lynn, Yvonne, she, she obviously wanted to, to
- 47:19jump on this again and, and at 41 years old and, and compete
- 47:23and hopefully she doesn't lose her leg.
- 47:25And she's been, as I've heard, she's got to go through like
- 47:28four or five surgeries and hopefully she she's OK, but
- 47:32horrible to see somebody go down like that.
- 47:34But yeah, like you said, Speedia, it's it's great to see
- 47:38and, and and what, she's 22 gold medals or two medals away from
- 47:42time. Bodie Miller. 2 total medals.
- 47:44One of the one of the greatest skiers of all time.
- 47:47And she said I think already better longevity too.
- 47:49She's the only one with 100 total wins, most World
- 47:52Championships already since she debuted, I believe, in 2012 in
- 47:56the World Championships of skiing.
- 47:57So I think she definitely has one more Olympics in her.
- 48:00All right, this one will definitely be the last Olympics,
- 48:02but one that finally she gets a gold in.
- 48:03It's the bobsledder, a lot of Myers Taylor, 41 years old, the
- 48:07oldest ever Olympian, Winter Olympian for the United States.
- 48:11There was her fifth Olympics. She debuted in Vancouver back in
- 48:132010. She finally gets her gold medal
- 48:16at 41. By the way, it was such a shock
- 48:19to her that after she won, she, she got up and she, she shocked.
- 48:25It's, it's fun to watch when you see their faces when their time
- 48:28pops up on the board and they know they're winning the gold.
- 48:31It was, it was sensational. And again, this is the most
- 48:34goals that Team USA has ever won in the Winter Olympics.
- 48:38Yeah, I think it was the highest percentage ever that was from
- 48:41the women's sports as well. I believe eight of the 12 that
- 48:43they had were from women's sports.
- 48:44And again, this is somebody that's I think has two kids
- 48:46already now at 41 years old. I mean, like I said, there's
- 48:49only certain sports you could do at that age.
- 48:51But she toughed it out. I didn't know if she had.
- 48:53It looks like she was kind of reeling down the stretch
- 48:55against, I believe there's a Switzerland one to beat it out,
- 48:59but congratulations to her. All right, two more left.
- 49:01We got speed skating on both sides.
- 49:03Jordan Stoll's for the men's got 2 golds and a silver.
- 49:06Kind of stumbled in his last race but they said he was a very
- 49:10worn out. Comparing the quads to Saquon
- 49:12Barkley with Jordan Stoll. Jordan Stoll is the fastest
- 49:17skater in the world, fastest Gator in the world, and to watch
- 49:20him dominate it this year and remember 4 years ago he was, he
- 49:24was a dominant force for Team USA as well, but didn't do as
- 49:28well last year, 4 years ago as he's done this year.
- 49:31So it was fun to watch. Finally, he's getting his
- 49:34recognition. Yeah, he got his, one of his
- 49:36goals was a huge distance event and he actually won it by a
- 49:38pretty good margin as well. Again, just kind of maybe didn't
- 49:41stretch enough down the stretch of that last one, but can't,
- 49:44can't discredit what he did for the rest of those races too and
- 49:46did very well with the team relay rallying them there.
- 49:49So that's on the men's side. And then on the women's side,
- 49:50kind of like I was saying with Ferreira before, Brittany Ball,
- 49:54a figure, a speed skater that was fourth place each of the
- 49:57last three times that she competed in the Olympics,
- 49:59finally gets a silver medal. Fun to watch.
- 50:02Like I said, it's always good to see somebody keep fighting,
- 50:06fighting, fighting and go into Olympic, you know, every four
- 50:09years try to compete and get that that big medal and get a
- 50:12chance to win a medal. And now she finally gets it at
- 50:15silver. I got a chance to watch her, you
- 50:17know, in the preliminaries. I didn't watch her win the
- 50:19silver medal, but fun to watch. Great.
- 50:22She's a great skater. And hopefully she'll be back in
- 50:24another four years. Yeah.
- 50:25She's 1. I don't think it's gotten as
- 50:27much hype because of Aaron Jackson and Aaron Jackson I she
- 50:30got a tough draw because she had she had to face the the Dutch
- 50:32one that got the world Olympic record, which that was a tough
- 50:35draw for her. But I think Bo just really
- 50:38rising up to that had that good sense of adversity.
- 50:40I think she dodged a lot of those tough crashes.
- 50:41That speed skating course was tough towards the end too and
- 50:45toughed it out. And I'll ride it out with this
- 50:47one with the with the women's hockey, because Brittany Bowe's
- 50:49fiance is actually Hillary Knights.
- 50:51They are a couple and she was the miracle maker for the US
- 50:54women's hockey under 10 seconds to goals tie it against ties it
- 50:57against Canada. And then it's a defenseman and
- 50:59Megan Keller who wins on a very impressive breakaway goal at the
- 51:03dangle in front of the night. You don't usually see from a.
- 51:05Defenseman and by the way, by the way, the United United
- 51:08States has never beaten Team Canada women's never beat Tim
- 51:11Canada in the Olympics. Never.
- 51:13I don't think they ever did. So this is the first time.
- 51:16And and to do it the way they did it, remember they scored
- 51:18with 10 seconds left and then went to overtime and beat Canada
- 51:21and it was 1 nothing throughout the game all the way 10 seconds
- 51:25into the 10 seconds left into the third period.
- 51:28It was fantastic. And congratulations to Team USA
- 51:32Women's Hockey for winning the gold medal and knocking off
- 51:34their nemesis Team Canada, which they've had problems with year
- 51:38in, year out in the championships and all that other
- 51:41stuff. So it was fun to watch.
- 51:42They always say in a rivalry like all these stats get thrown
- 51:45out the window and we talked about it like the US were
- 51:47dominating the 31 to one. They were being outscored.
- 51:49They'd a shot off streak going for a while with the with the
- 51:51goal goaltender. And then all of a sudden Canada
- 51:54gets the better of them in the first period.
- 51:56They kind of flat even the second period.
- 51:58But Hilary Knight, congratulations to her being the
- 52:01the closing ceremony flag bearer as well.
- 52:02A very well deserved honor for the she's 33 years old clutch.
- 52:05She's done. I think she's done with the
- 52:08Olympics. There's so many great young
- 52:11women hockey players coming up in the future and we're seeing
- 52:15them the the speed of Team USA and again Team Canada to their
- 52:20their captain could this could be their her last year as well.
- 52:22So who I think is 3233? Yeah, she, I guess she got hurt
- 52:26at the beginning of the term and played in this one.
- 52:27I believe she's also 33. So yeah, and have an error for
- 52:30both of those two in women's hockey in what was a very
- 52:33impressive showcase, like you said, for the women's.
- 52:35And congratulations. To women, Canada Hockey as well,
- 52:38Yes, they are sensational. They're always impossible to
- 52:42play against for Team USA Hockey and they just got the better of
- 52:45them this year and got lucky. But that's it's all about the
- 52:49luck of the luck of the bounce and congratulations to all our
- 52:53gold, silver and bronze winners throughout the Olympic Games.
- 52:57All. Right.
- 52:58All right, ladies and gentlemen, no King of the Hill tonight.
- 53:01We call this Tic Tac. No Tic Tac.
- 53:06Morris. Right in the butt.
- 53:09We get the prizes cheap because they're stolen.
- 53:12No, no. No, no, no, no, no.
- 53:23Let's go, let's go, let's flow. Lick it and stick it Patty cake.
- 53:28Patty cake Patty cake pickers man.
- 53:30Speedy dances like a trash can. I don't know how trash cans
- 53:35dance well. If you spin it around a little
- 53:37bit, it'll bounce. It'll do all the different
- 53:39things. Look, I'm in the background
- 53:40right there, yeah. Speedy, I hope you have
- 53:44something better than last time because if you didn't, watch
- 53:47last episode. You wanted to jerk me off.
- 53:50I had a perfect game in Tic Tac now answered all three straight
- 53:55questions for the. Dub.
- 53:58Speedy, what do you got for us this time?
- 54:01All right, so we're, you got 2 out of 3 Olympic hockey
- 54:04questions out of the way. So I was figuring the football
- 54:06would be too easy, but I guess we're not.
- 54:07We're going to start there. To start, I actually had one
- 54:09question prepared for our guest last week.
- 54:11I'm on green, so I'm going to let's go to that one first.
- 54:14Who was the only guy in 2003, the season Arrow mentioned that
- 54:17was his best season that finished ahead of him that
- 54:19season in rushing yards? Better, I'm sorry, one more
- 54:24time. So in 2003, I'm on green or a
- 54:27friend of the Show last week was second in the NFL in rushing
- 54:30yards. Who was the only guy that
- 54:32finished ahead of them? Come on Edger and James.
- 54:40Nope. Another guy that almost came on
- 54:43our. Show I got one.
- 54:44What do you got, Sean Alexander? Nope.
- 54:47I was thinking to him too. All right, so now Dom and Zoot,
- 54:54you guys get a guess each. Unmute yourselves.
- 55:01I'm. Trying to think what could.
- 55:07It be running back, I'll say Ladane Tomlinson.
- 55:10Nope. It's a good guess that.
- 55:12Was going to be my guess, Jerome.
- 55:14Bettis. Nope.
- 55:16All right, Tommy, up to you. 2003.
- 55:21Yes. Senior year of I have a.
- 55:25Football, I think I maybe I can guess here, I think, I think.
- 55:29Curtis Martin? Nope.
- 55:31You know what? Hold on.
- 55:32Let me see. I know.
- 55:33I'm. No, Curtis Martin, not Curtis.
- 55:34Martin. Sweetie, the folk. 1.
- 55:36No, it was Jamal. Lewis, is that the 2002 thousand
- 55:41yards? Was Baltimore right?
- 55:43No, that was his 2000 yard season.
- 55:45Yep. Was it Baltimore?
- 55:46Right with the Ravens. Ever, that was.
- 55:49His 2000 Yeah. All right, Speedy, I'm assuming
- 55:52you want the middle? Of course.
- 55:56All right, Fish, all right. We talked about University of
- 55:58Arizona earlier. So the last time they won a
- 56:01national championship, they had two point guards that both had
- 56:03long NBA careers, one playing 14 years and then the other playing
- 56:07nineteen. Name these two.
- 56:08Players I know this. Jason Terry and Mike Bibby.
- 56:11Good. Job.
- 56:13Fish. They're on a roll.
- 56:14Hey, look at that. You still are on a roll from
- 56:17last week. Four or five pretty good.
- 56:20All right, I'm just going to leave it up.
- 56:22I didn't even take the graphic down speedy.
- 56:24I got that one so fast. We're going to go this way.
- 56:29Love that team. That was a great team, all
- 56:32right. Speedy.
- 56:35All right, let's go to the NBA now.
- 56:36We'll go to some All Star Game trivia that I had saved from
- 56:39last week. 1997 was the last year in NBA All Star Game MVP
- 56:43was not won by a future Hall of Fame by a guy that's currently
- 56:47not in the Hall of Fame name. Name this Eastern Conference
- 56:51forward. 97 you said. In 1997, he's not a he's not a
- 57:00current or I guess maybe not a future Hall of Famer because
- 57:03he's not in right now. Well, if he's not from 97, I
- 57:06guess he ain't getting in now. OK, I think I know this one.
- 57:15Is it Sean Kemp? Nope.
- 57:20Is it Grant Hill? Nope.
- 57:25You know, I had a friend I used to play pick up basketball with
- 57:27Errol that every time he hit a shot, he said Grant Hill, drink
- 57:30Sprite in your face every single time.
- 57:34Andre Kerlenko. Commercial.
- 57:35Nope. Kerlenko.
- 57:38I don't even know. I don't.
- 57:41Obscure forwards from the late 90s.
- 57:43Boys, non hall of farmers that we're good enough to be an All
- 57:49Star game. Tim Hardaway.
- 57:51I got nothing. And not Tim Hardaway, that's a
- 57:54guard you. Could have another guess.
- 57:59I don't know, Pippin. He's in a hall of.
- 58:03Fame. Yeah, I don't know.
- 58:04Not, I don't know, not Hall of Famer.
- 58:06Zoot Last. Chance.
- 58:06I can't think of a normal computer.
- 58:09Go ahead, Speedy, I got another guess.
- 58:11Oh, I'm sorry, you already guessed so, Tommy.
- 58:13Yeah. No, I got nothing.
- 58:15I got nothing. I don't even know.
- 58:16All right, Speedy, who is it? It was.
- 58:18Glen Rice. He's not going to, man.
- 58:21I was not. Going to get.
- 58:23That no, he's not going to be in the hall.
- 58:24He also played for The Great. 3 point shooter.
- 58:26He also played for the Knicks. Yeah, he he wasn't any good by
- 58:29the time he got to the Knicks. Speedy, where are we going?
- 58:32Let's go top, top, right. Top right for Speedy.
- 58:38All right, we got to stop him here, guys.
- 58:41All right, let's go to our guest for tonight, Ken Hamlin, who had
- 58:44his first two interception game was against the Bills back in
- 58:472005. Which quarterback did he pick
- 58:49off? 2005, you say?
- 58:52When I was in College in Buffalo.
- 58:54Yep. 00 JP lossman. Nope, that's the other one.
- 59:11I have no. Idea it was whoever was before
- 59:13JP Lawsman. Can I get fish?
- 59:17My guess. Do you know who it is then?
- 59:19Fish. I don't know.
- 59:19I have no clue. No, I don't.
- 59:21I don't. I can't think of it, I mean.
- 59:232005 in the Bills. I'm drawing a blank.
- 59:30I have a guess but. Use Tommy's.
- 59:36Go ahead, have a. Guess yeah, you can use my guess
- 59:38whenever. I got like nothing I I'm.
- 59:42Yeah, I got a quarterback. Use mine too you.
- 59:46Guys, just not. We got to stop them all right?
- 59:51I had a name and now I forgot the name because I'm so
- 59:53flustered and speedy read the question to me one more time.
- 59:55So Ken Hamlin got his first multiple interception game in
- 59:592005 when they played against the Buffalo Bills.
- 1:00:03Who is the quarterback they picked off?
- 1:00:062005 so that would have been my sophomore year of college.
- 1:00:12Who did they have at quarterback before EJ Manual?
- 1:00:18No, that was wait, later. That was like what I was after.
- 1:00:22That was after all, right? I was at high school.
- 1:00:24That's the high school then. So then the other way, the other
- 1:00:29way in years. I'm really everybody.
- 1:00:38Everyone was just giving like random was.
- 1:00:40Wait, Fitzpatrick. No, it's actually not as random
- 1:00:44as you think. It's a pretty not maybe not a
- 1:00:47whole fame quarterback, but it's a well known quarterback.
- 1:00:49A well known Bills quarterback from back then.
- 1:00:56That's bad, Errol. You got nothing.
- 1:00:58I I can guess what? Do you got?
- 1:01:00Kelly Holcomb. Nope, that is not a well known
- 1:01:04Phil's quarterback. But you're right, he definitely
- 1:01:07was there. Shit.
- 1:01:12All right, you want a hint? I guess I I get one more guess
- 1:01:15I'll take a hint. OK.
- 1:01:17He actually has a connection with his quarterback later in
- 1:01:20his career. His quarterback?
- 1:01:23What do you mean his? Quarterback this quarterback.
- 1:01:25He's saying Ken Hamlin had a connection with his quarterback
- 1:01:28later in his career, right? Yep.
- 1:01:34I don't. Know who backed up the Cowboys?
- 1:01:42Oh no. Is it going to be when like he
- 1:01:44was on those like Speedy? That's a mean hint.
- 1:01:47If it was like his last year in the league when he was on two
- 1:01:50different teams, I'm going to guess Cowboys back quarterback.
- 1:01:55Was it like Kyle Warden? No, it was a much more, much
- 1:02:00bigger name than that. It was a guy who started before
- 1:02:02that with the Cowboys, and then Tony Romo took over for him.
- 1:02:05It was Drew Bledsoe. Bledsoe, that was the other guy,
- 1:02:08I was going to say. In his life, I believe it was
- 1:02:11only his only year with the pills.
- 1:02:13I was not perfect this time, Speedy.
- 1:02:17I was. I was like, I don't know if he
- 1:02:18was still around by then. I should have just went with it.
- 1:02:22All right, Speedy, you got us Tic Tac.
- 1:02:24No, you get your revenge. Congratulations.
- 1:02:29Drove bones back in my ass. I get more girls than scoops.
- 1:02:37In Niffen's words, he can. Thumb up my ass.
- 1:02:41Shove a thumb up his ass. Thank you to all the fans tuning

- 1:03:15Instagram, Facebook, all the the platforms, YouTube, we have a

- 1:03:23York, a job in the mouth New York.
- 1:03:25So check that out. It is up.
- 1:03:27All our New York takes will be up there moving forward.
- 1:03:30And also we still have the job in the mouth, you know, channel.
- 1:03:34We also have worldwide sports radio network channel if you
- 1:03:37want to check that out as well. Who do we have on on Thursday?
- 1:03:41Nobody yet, Nothing yet. And if it's working on something
- 1:03:43I should I'm. Going to reach out to Neil Smith
- 1:03:45as well, try to get him on. Yeah, I definitely like to hear
- 1:03:47Neil Smith's take on Team USA hockey.
- 1:03:49And Neil Smith is a Canadian, so I'm sure he didn't like the fact
- 1:03:54that you're not. USA won the Olympic gold medal.
- 1:03:57But by the way, what Team USA did with Goudreau and Johnny
- 1:04:02Goudreau and his family for him and his brother was sensational.
- 1:04:06It shows the heart and soul of this a United States hockey team
- 1:04:10and how how much and how important the Goudreau family
- 1:04:13meant to every single player from, you know, from top to
- 1:04:16bottom, the youth and and and the future of Team USA Hockey
- 1:04:20stands for something. When you see Johnny Goudreau's
- 1:04:24United States 15 jersey being held up while they're skating
- 1:04:28around the ice and celebrating. So it was sensational.
- 1:04:32It really was. And seeing his kids get a chance
- 1:04:34to be on there. It is speedy.
- 1:04:36I mean, not speedy Fish is posting up on a social media.
- 1:04:40All the kids are on the ice, but the players taking pictures with
- 1:04:43the team. So it was nice to see and shout
- 1:04:46out to Bill Guerin, John Van Beesbrook and Team USA Hockey
- 1:04:50for doing and, and really doing something special like that and
- 1:04:55inviting the Goudreau family to celebrate this unbelievable
- 1:04:59feat, which took 46 years to do. So a long, long time.
- 1:05:03And hopefully it doesn't take that long again because we do
- 1:05:07remember 1994 for the New York Rangers and it's been a long 1A
- 1:05:10long one for you Ranger fans. Neil Smith knows all about it.
- 1:05:13Yes, he. Does.
- 1:05:15Because he's the one that built that team and the Rangers pretty
- 1:05:18much threw the Wolves, threw them to the Wolves and he was
- 1:05:22the one that traded John Van Biesburg.
- 1:05:23And we had our conversation. So I love Neil now.
- 1:05:26He kind of made me feel good about why he traded John Van
- 1:05:29Biesburg and he gave me his his take on it.
- 1:05:31So thank you to Neil, Thank you to all the fans.
- 1:05:33We will be back on Thursday. Until then, this is Arrow and
- 1:05:37the the clan of job in the mouth saying good night and we'll talk
- 1:05:41to you then. Good night, everybody.
- 1:05:42You're you're listening to the Worldwide Sports Radio Network.
