- 0:39Speaker 1: What are you thinking about the heavy size? Yeah, a
- 0:44Speaker 1: lot of heavy size with some matter. Argue with myself
- 0:47Speaker 1: because that's what I do. Oh, I got a personal
- 0:49Speaker 1: issue to deal with. You and that head talked about
- 0:51Speaker 1: a yelly day in Indiana. You guys were splitting a
- 0:55Speaker 1: cookie skill of a ice cream too spoons. Are you're
- 0:57Speaker 1: gonna be a big guy? You gotta you were splitting
- 1:05Speaker 1: in two spoons? What are you giggling about? Because I'm
- 1:07Speaker 1: just thinking, I'm all ridiculous. It was that we should Yeah,
- 1:10Speaker 1: we were, you know, we were ahead of our time.
- 1:12Speaker 1: We probably also had, you know, ten beers each And
- 1:15Speaker 1: how you ended up in the same hotel room. Is
- 1:20Speaker 1: this my key? Oh sorry, that's not a pillow. The
- 1:24Speaker 1: This is Patriots Unfiltered, fueled by dungcan. All right, welcome
- 1:31Speaker 1: to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Thursday here at Gilette Stadium.
- 1:34Speaker 1: If you joined us right away, you heard Bill Belichick. Um,
- 1:39Speaker 1: mac Jones is going to be starting. We knew that
- 1:41Speaker 1: yesterday because of a report by Field Yates. Uh he's
- 1:45Speaker 1: uh one of the sources here. Uh go to uh
- 1:49Speaker 1: distributor of information, Uh you know at times family friend.
- 1:54Speaker 1: But anyway, Um, we knew yesterday that mac Jones is
- 1:57Speaker 1: going to be starting, as we suspected and as we
- 2:00Speaker 1: hoped the information would get out earlier, you know, and
- 2:05Speaker 1: when Bill kept saying yesterday, we'll see how it goes.
- 2:08Speaker 1: I think that you and I talked about it on
- 2:12Speaker 1: the show yesterday. This is kind of how we felt, like, Yeah,
- 2:15Speaker 1: I think he's just making sure physically he's okay after practice,
- 2:20Speaker 1: and then he's he'll yeah, let it out there, you know.
- 2:24Speaker 1: So I'm happy about it. I didn't think the identity
- 2:28Speaker 1: of which one he picked was the most important part,
- 2:31Speaker 1: but I did think it was important that he identified
- 2:34Speaker 1: one to go with now. I'm sure Mac is it's
- 2:37Speaker 1: important to Max. Oh no, no, no no, obviously it's important
- 2:39Speaker 1: to the two guys. But yeah, I wanted it to
- 2:42Speaker 1: be Mac, I said yesterday, you know that would be
- 2:44Speaker 1: would have been my pick. But I do think it's
- 2:47Speaker 1: important that the team is on the same page and
- 2:50Speaker 1: you know, they move forward. I would have liked him
- 2:52Speaker 1: to have heard him today be a little stronger with it,
- 2:56Speaker 1: you know, kind of in that Brady mold from from
- 2:58Speaker 1: two thousand and one. Not that Mac Jones's played to
- 3:01Speaker 1: that level as Alex Watson um, but just you know,
- 3:05Speaker 1: kind of like, well, he's he's he is our starting quarterback.
- 3:08Speaker 1: He's he's ready to go him and he said clearly
- 3:10Speaker 1: he's ready to go physically. So I would have liked
- 3:12Speaker 1: to have seen maybe a little bit of a stronger
- 3:14Speaker 1: commitment moving forward, you know, like the whole foreseeable future
- 3:17Speaker 1: kind of thing. Yeah. We got a little insight into
- 3:20Speaker 1: the psyche of Bill today, did we. Yeah. I always
- 3:23Speaker 1: like when you explain things to me. There was a moment.
- 3:26Speaker 1: It was a moment when one of the writers, I
- 3:27Speaker 1: don't know who it was, was just simply trying to
- 3:30Speaker 1: get information. Bill goes look, you know, you're not going
- 3:32Speaker 1: to trap me. In Bill's mind, the question was in
- 3:36Speaker 1: order to trap him. It really wasn't. It's just to
- 3:39Speaker 1: get information. But that's how Bill is thinking, is that
- 3:42Speaker 1: they're trying to trap me. They're not. Yeah, they're not.
- 3:46Speaker 1: They're just trying to get info. Yeah, that's it. And
- 3:49Speaker 1: so I think we got a little insight there into
- 3:52Speaker 1: Bill's psyche when it comes to dealing with the press. Yeah.
- 3:56Speaker 1: And like I said, I like I like this turn
- 4:00Speaker 1: of events. I like the fact that we know now
- 4:03Speaker 1: and it has nothing to do with trying to keep
- 4:05Speaker 1: the identity, you know, a secret for the other team
- 4:08Speaker 1: and all that stuff that always, uh, you know, comes
- 4:11Speaker 1: up at these times. I just like the fact that
- 4:14Speaker 1: Bill let it out there yesterday and he didn't back
- 4:18Speaker 1: away from it today when when asked about it. We
- 4:22Speaker 1: go forward, you know, I think that's the only thing
- 4:24Speaker 1: you can do. You got to pick out the pieces
- 4:26Speaker 1: and move forward. Yeah. Yeah, right, because it was turning
- 4:29Speaker 1: into a situation, right, yeah. I mean I know that
- 4:32Speaker 1: a lot of people in the media said it wasn't
- 4:33Speaker 1: a situation, but it is still is and certainly was
- 4:38Speaker 1: you know, leaning in and if it wasn't any anything
- 4:41Speaker 1: to worry about. You wouldn't hear Bill and Alex. You
- 4:44Speaker 1: were at the press conference, so you were actually there
- 4:46Speaker 1: to hear the questions and whatnot. Fred and I were
- 4:48Speaker 1: listening so many like parsing of words and where we
- 4:52Speaker 1: are now as opposed. You know, there's no commitment here
- 4:56Speaker 1: beyond the the absolute present. Like Mac it through practice yesterday,
- 5:02Speaker 1: fully ready to go. He's physically ready to go and
- 5:05Speaker 1: up to speed, but you know nothing about like, oh, yeah, no,
- 5:08Speaker 1: he's our quarterback the rest of the way. I think
- 5:10Speaker 1: that's what it is. But yeah, bottom line, he's not
- 5:13Speaker 1: as certain about Mac in year two as he was
- 5:16Speaker 1: in Brady and Brady's first should he be? But you know,
- 5:19Speaker 1: I was just there's there's like back and forth, there
- 5:23Speaker 1: were there were things going on, like it's not just
- 5:25Speaker 1: a full gone conclusion that Mac is the quarterback. Well,
- 5:27Speaker 1: the quote you guys just brought up. The funniest part
- 5:30Speaker 1: of it to me was Bill saying, don't try to
- 5:33Speaker 1: trap me into something that's going to happen in the future, right,
- 5:37Speaker 1: So like totally leaving the future open ended. We're focused
- 5:41Speaker 1: on today. The Jets max here and then it was
- 5:44Speaker 1: very much. Just I don't know, you're right, Like when
- 5:47Speaker 1: it was Brady, it was like a question about the
- 5:49Speaker 1: starter going forward would just be scoffed at, And now
- 5:52Speaker 1: he's like, yeah, no, don't trap me, right, I don't
- 5:54Speaker 1: know what's going to happen in the future. Well, I
- 5:56Speaker 1: mean it's recently as two years ago a question about
- 5:59Speaker 1: the quarterback was Cam Newton is the quarterback? Right? You know? Yeah,
- 6:02Speaker 1: like so like there was no controversy two years ago
- 6:06Speaker 1: because Cam Newton was unequivocally the starting quarterback because Bill
- 6:09Speaker 1: said so, right, and he's not saying that like Mac
- 6:13Speaker 1: Jones is starting Sunday, he's gonna be ready to go
- 6:15Speaker 1: against the Jet unequivocally the quarterback on Sunday. I think
- 6:18Speaker 1: that he is the quarterback, you know. I think he'll
- 6:21Speaker 1: be the quarterback for the for the future. But will
- 6:22Speaker 1: you be surprised if you know, maybe things don't improve
- 6:28Speaker 1: dramatically for Mac Jones on Sunday and they lose to
- 6:31Speaker 1: the Jets, that we're in the same situation next week.
- 6:34Speaker 1: All the questions are about who started your quarterback. No,
- 6:36Speaker 1: they're gonna come up again if Mac doesn't play well
- 6:39Speaker 1: and they lose, right, yeah, whereas in the past the
- 6:42Speaker 1: guy was the quarterback, win, loser, draw. Yeah, here's to
- 6:45Speaker 1: Matt playing well and winning. Yeah, I mean I think
- 6:48Speaker 1: that's how you and I feel. Yeah, what's up, Alex?
- 6:51Speaker 1: Not too much. How have you guys been managing without you,
- 6:54Speaker 1: without me? Without Mike? Well Mike, Yeah, Mike's still under
- 6:58Speaker 1: the weather. He's on the injury report. Uh, he did
- 7:01Speaker 1: not participate. He's got a suck it up. I mean,
- 7:03Speaker 1: what are we doing here? We're season no, no, nothing.
- 7:07Speaker 1: He did give me his pet he sent he sent
- 7:09Speaker 1: his picks in. Oh, that's good. We have that, so
- 7:12Speaker 1: we'll be able to rifle through picks now because he
- 7:15Speaker 1: takes a little time sometimes, you know, taking shots at
- 7:18Speaker 1: how long it's maybe you should take Maybe you should
- 7:21Speaker 1: take a little more time. Oh, based on your record
- 7:24Speaker 1: another bad week for me or a week when you're
- 7:28Speaker 1: looking Oh, it's just your baseline now, Yeah, I just
- 7:32Speaker 1: it's just I'm only up from here. No, I'm simpatico
- 7:37Speaker 1: with the Patriots, so I as they go, so do I.
- 7:39Speaker 1: I have a little uh thing that's still bugging me
- 7:43Speaker 1: a little bit, and it's you know, Evan, I think
- 7:47Speaker 1: we'll be coming by after practice right here to give
- 7:49Speaker 1: us the hope. So right, so confirmed. So you know,
- 7:54Speaker 1: Evan we talked about, you know, some of the subtle
- 7:57Speaker 1: differences and play calling, you know, when guys in the
- 8:00Speaker 1: game to the other. And you know, I think Evan
- 8:02Speaker 1: made a lot of good points with that. There's there's
- 8:06Speaker 1: still this groundswell of sabotage to Mac. Yeah, I heard,
- 8:12Speaker 1: like not just Greg Bdard like he's on board with that,
- 8:16Speaker 1: but like national people and Chris Simms. Now I do
- 8:22Speaker 1: find it funny. Like Chris Sims, a guy who we
- 8:24Speaker 1: never ever listened to, never took seriously since he left
- 8:27Speaker 1: the organization several years ago. Now all of a sudden,
- 8:29Speaker 1: he's he's a fact. That's fact, you know. So Chris
- 8:32Speaker 1: Sims says it's so it's important. But I just I'm
- 8:37Speaker 1: not telling you about the different plays. I think it
- 8:40Speaker 1: makes sense to have different plays for different players, like
- 8:43Speaker 1: you accentuate strengths and weaknesses whatnot based on who's actually playing.
- 8:49Speaker 1: But you're telling me that Matt Patricia and Joe Judge
- 8:51Speaker 1: have it out for Mac Jones. That's what the that's
- 8:53Speaker 1: what they're that's what they're They're not implying it they're
- 8:55Speaker 1: coming out and saying it, yeah, and I'm sorry if
- 8:58Speaker 1: I can't get on board with it, I can't. I
- 9:03Speaker 1: that would be fireable if I was Robert Kraft and
- 9:06Speaker 1: I found out that my quarterbacks coach an offensive coordinator
- 9:10Speaker 1: were purposely putting a play a first round you know,
- 9:13Speaker 1: forget about where he's draft but he was a first
- 9:15Speaker 1: round pick. In jeopardy, You're gone. Just inconceivable. I don't
- 9:19Speaker 1: need you to with a fan base, at least I
- 9:24Speaker 1: don't know about internally. Obviously he's in good standing internally
- 9:28Speaker 1: because he's here, But like with the fan base, that's
- 9:31Speaker 1: the easiest, low hanging fruit target for people to go after.
- 9:34Speaker 1: So I don't see Patricia trying to like further sabotage
- 9:38Speaker 1: himself by losing games or not putting the offense in
- 9:41Speaker 1: what he thinks is the best position to win. I agree,
- 9:44Speaker 1: it's inconceivable. It's because to do that, like, these coaches
- 9:48Speaker 1: know how hard it is on these players. You know,
- 9:51Speaker 1: they're playing a sport that these coaches wanted to be
- 9:53Speaker 1: good at, but none of them, most of them weren't,
- 9:56Speaker 1: you know, so they know what kind of me. But
- 9:58Speaker 1: it's true, right, you know, those who teach those who
- 10:02Speaker 1: can't teach teach Jim. You know, oh, Um, I thought
- 10:06Speaker 1: it was just those who can't do teach those He
- 10:09Speaker 1: took a whole nasty level. Who can't teach teach right,
- 10:14Speaker 1: those who can't do teach those who can't teach, teach Jim. Um.
- 10:18Speaker 1: But a lot of these coaches wanted to be players
- 10:22Speaker 1: and played at a certain level, but we're never as
- 10:24Speaker 1: good at and they know how hard it is. Borderline
- 10:27Speaker 1: it would be borderline evil for a coach to do
- 10:30Speaker 1: that to a player, and I think it's right. I
- 10:33Speaker 1: think it. It doesn't make sense, and I think you know,
- 10:38Speaker 1: people can speculate all they will, but you know they're
- 10:41Speaker 1: just trying to make headlines. It. I can't believe that
- 10:44Speaker 1: would happen. Well. The other part is it's sort of
- 10:49Speaker 1: letting Mac Jones off the hook, Isn't it like they're
- 10:53Speaker 1: sabotaging him now, I will has nothing to do with
- 10:56Speaker 1: the fact that Mac Jones is not protecting the football,
- 10:58Speaker 1: Like I can be sympathy with Mac Jones because I
- 11:01Speaker 1: think he's been sort of targeted in a little Yeah,
- 11:04Speaker 1: I thought the way they handled Monday night was unfair
- 11:07Speaker 1: to Mac Jones and so that I'll give him some credit,
- 11:09Speaker 1: but I'm not giving him credit for throwing the interception
- 11:11Speaker 1: when he's in there, right. But I will say this.
- 11:14Speaker 1: There was a defensive lineman that used to play with
- 11:16Speaker 1: the Patriots pre dynasty who told me this is not hearsay.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Told me one on one that a certain defensive line
- 11:25Speaker 1: coach told him, you know, unless you give if you
- 11:29Speaker 1: make the Pro Bowl and you get your bonus, unless
- 11:31Speaker 1: you give me a cut of that, I'm gonna limit
- 11:34Speaker 1: your snaps. Should I say it? Oh? No, okay, but
- 11:41Speaker 1: you know so I have affery. There's like a paper
- 11:47Speaker 1: trail with everything you do. Now, you can't just tell
- 11:49Speaker 1: someone something face to face in the game. But I
- 11:55Speaker 1: have a good to say that Max is being sabotaged
- 11:59Speaker 1: by the play calling allows him to be off the
- 12:03Speaker 1: hook for not playing well. Right, Like, why is it
- 12:06Speaker 1: that on the second play of the game and the
- 12:09Speaker 1: first pass that he attempted the other night, he throws
- 12:11Speaker 1: a twelve yard out over the head of the receiver
- 12:14Speaker 1: who was open, right? Like? Is that because Matt Patricia
- 12:17Speaker 1: called a twelve yard out and he's you know, he's
- 12:19Speaker 1: trying to make him look bad? No, and I said,
- 12:21Speaker 1: I think you said it right. Like different players, different
- 12:25Speaker 1: quarterbacks are good at different things, so you called different plays.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Now the thing about now, I'll I'll do a Paul
- 12:31Speaker 1: and I'll argue against myself here. What they've been calling
- 12:35Speaker 1: for Mac hasn't been working and they don't seem to
- 12:37Speaker 1: have changed that yet. But they only had three series, right,
- 12:40Speaker 1: I mean, you really don't have a chance to see anything.
- 12:43Speaker 1: But but and I would agree with that. I would
- 12:44Speaker 1: start all of my analysis of Mac Jones by by saying,
- 12:47Speaker 1: I don't think Mac Jones has played very well in
- 12:49Speaker 1: twenty twenty two. Like, I'm not trying to be a
- 12:52Speaker 1: mac apologist. People will say, oh, he's doing the Feldger thing,
- 12:55Speaker 1: he's being a contrarian. He was. He was critical of
- 12:58Speaker 1: Mac Jones all year last year when he played well.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Now that everybody's against him, he's trying to defend him.
- 13:03Speaker 1: That's not what I'm trying to do because I don't
- 13:05Speaker 1: think Max. You wouldn't defend any But I don't think
- 13:07Speaker 1: he's played well. Do you think he's played well? No? Yeah,
- 13:10Speaker 1: And he's had he's had moments. Yeah. I think the Baltimore,
- 13:13Speaker 1: the first first two and a half course against Baltimore.
- 13:15Speaker 1: I think he did have some moments, but I think
- 13:17Speaker 1: for the most part this year he's been sporadic. We
- 13:20Speaker 1: haven't seen in a progress and too many turnovers. Yeah, yeah,
- 13:24Speaker 1: that's the thing. That's just the turnout. Like even when
- 13:26Speaker 1: there's a good drive that he's had, it's just marred
- 13:29Speaker 1: in our memory because of a turnover penalty. You name
- 13:32Speaker 1: it yea now, But but I I also look at
- 13:36Speaker 1: it and say, yeah, like Dani Rolosky says, I challenge.
- 13:39Speaker 1: I think he had a tweet. I challenged them to
- 13:41Speaker 1: call the same place. I know Mac Jones can run
- 13:44Speaker 1: those plays. I saw him do it all last year. Yeah,
- 13:47Speaker 1: and I know that that offense will only get you
- 13:49Speaker 1: so far. That offense will only allow you to beat
- 13:52Speaker 1: bad teams. Right, So I couldn't use that against the Bears. Yeah,
- 13:56Speaker 1: I got to step out for a quick second. I'll
- 13:58Speaker 1: be right back, Okay. Yeah. So no, but like Paul said,
- 14:02Speaker 1: this is now taken on a national narrative, you know,
- 14:07Speaker 1: and I just I just like you said, it's inconceivable
- 14:11Speaker 1: that any coach would do that to one of their players,
- 14:14Speaker 1: because you know, even if you hate the player, and
- 14:17Speaker 1: I'm sure, everyone's human. I'm sure there's personality conflicts and
- 14:20Speaker 1: teams and coaches don't like players, vice versa. But you're
- 14:24Speaker 1: also hurting the rest of the team. Yeah, yourself. Patricia
- 14:28Speaker 1: has been the media scapegoat since before the preseason, right
- 14:32Speaker 1: even right, so it's like, that's not That's the one
- 14:36Speaker 1: question I want to ask is how does this benefit
- 14:38Speaker 1: to anyone that has that conspiracy theory? Where does Patricia
- 14:42Speaker 1: win in this if he's sacrificing this integrity potentially hypothetically.
- 14:48Speaker 1: And again, I don't really understand that was a quick
- 14:51Speaker 1: step out. I don't really understand why. To Alex's point, Matt,
- 14:56Speaker 1: Patricia wants Mac Jones to fail, Like what's fort right
- 15:01Speaker 1: if that happens? Right? And again, regardless of the play call,
- 15:06Speaker 1: isn't the idea when you call the play the eleven
- 15:08Speaker 1: guys on the field, isn't the idea to execute it
- 15:11Speaker 1: to the best of your ability? And this is where like,
- 15:14Speaker 1: I'm not letting Mac Jones off the hook. I think
- 15:17Speaker 1: he has seven turnovers. Now, I'd argue that the guy
- 15:20Speaker 1: who replaced him doing all the safe plays has six
- 15:23Speaker 1: turnovers and roughly the same amount of playtime. Now, yeah, yeah,
- 15:27Speaker 1: three games, right, yeah, you know, one guy has six
- 15:30Speaker 1: picks and a fumble. The other guy has you know
- 15:33Speaker 1: whatever it is, three picks and three fumbles, right yeah,
- 15:37Speaker 1: I mean there's a lot of turnovers. The biggest problem
- 15:39Speaker 1: right now with the Patriots offense is they cannot protect
- 15:42Speaker 1: the football. And I'm gonna do what unprecedented back to
- 15:45Speaker 1: back weeks. I'm going to use the same key damn
- 15:49Speaker 1: this week. I forgot to fill out Mike's round table.
- 15:54Speaker 1: I just haven't had a chance. I saw the email,
- 15:57Speaker 1: and I protect them all very busy. Yeah we should
- 16:00Speaker 1: mentioned and it's just a report, and who knows what
- 16:02Speaker 1: the sources are and why they gave him the info.
- 16:05Speaker 1: But do Doug Kide is reporting that, uh, four receivers
- 16:09Speaker 1: and two other players Patriots have been getting called trade
- 16:13Speaker 1: calls for well, everybody's had the receivers. Phil Perry I
- 16:16Speaker 1: think was first on the receivers. Yeah, but he was
- 16:18Speaker 1: the first to include m Jacoby Byers. Yeah that people
- 16:22Speaker 1: are calling on Jacoby Myers. But I think had Damian
- 16:25Speaker 1: Harris h. And there was one Jabrill Peppers and Jabrill
- 16:28Speaker 1: Peppers and I hadn't seen those two names, so yeah,
- 16:32Speaker 1: I mean, but you know, i'd add those two to
- 16:34Speaker 1: the lists. Like if I was a reporter and I
- 16:36Speaker 1: got that call, it's probably like depending on who's calling,
- 16:41Speaker 1: Like if it's a Patriots source, I'm like, are you
- 16:44Speaker 1: just using me to drum up interest here? You know,
- 16:47Speaker 1: like telling other teams that these guys are available? Um,
- 16:50Speaker 1: you know, like I would question, why are you telling
- 16:53Speaker 1: me this? Well? You knowell, you do want me to
- 16:56Speaker 1: give you Like, you know, one hundred years ago, I
- 16:59Speaker 1: used to be doing this stuff. Right, we were banging
- 17:01Speaker 1: the drum and you know when I worked at The Herald,
- 17:03Speaker 1: and then you know, when I started here, I was
- 17:06Speaker 1: calling the agents and trying to work sources and whatnot.
- 17:09Speaker 1: We're more analytical now than we were way back then.
- 17:13Speaker 1: But I'll tell you what I mean. Jabrill Peppers last
- 17:16Speaker 1: year of his contract, Damien Harris last year of his contract,
- 17:19Speaker 1: Jakobe Myers last year of his contract. So what is
- 17:21Speaker 1: it in the best interests of their representative representation to do? Yeah? Yeah,
- 17:27Speaker 1: they're they're highly sought after, these guys, right, they're going
- 17:30Speaker 1: to be free agents next year, but people don't want
- 17:32Speaker 1: to wait for them to be free agents. So right, Hey,
- 17:34Speaker 1: Alex I don't know. David Canter here, agent for Jacoby Myers. Yeah,
- 17:42Speaker 1: a lot of interests, a lot of interest Alex. You
- 17:44Speaker 1: get the Patriots getting a lot of calls on Jaco,
- 17:46Speaker 1: on my client. That's how it works. They're they're they're
- 17:50Speaker 1: they're they're talking to agents and the agents are telling them,
- 17:54Speaker 1: oh yeah, they're getting calls. But the team doesn't want
- 17:56Speaker 1: to move on from them because the team likes what
- 17:57Speaker 1: they say, what they have, team likes what they what,
- 18:00Speaker 1: you know, what the what they've seen in the production.
- 18:03Speaker 1: But a lot of people are interested in in in Uh.
- 18:06Speaker 1: You know, Jabrill Peppers, Damien had all guys in the
- 18:09Speaker 1: last year of their contract. It makes sense marketing one
- 18:12Speaker 1: on one create a scarcity, and so now around the
- 18:16Speaker 1: league people are looking at it. You know, maybe someone
- 18:19Speaker 1: in Carolina is looking at that and saying, oh wow,
- 18:21Speaker 1: Jabrill Peppers, he's having a good yuarrope in New England. Huh,
- 18:24Speaker 1: people people are chasing after him. Now. Could the other
- 18:27Speaker 1: reason to do that would be to cause unrest with
- 18:31Speaker 1: the Patriots. No, no, what is the unrest? Like? You
- 18:34Speaker 1: would be doing that like other teams. Yeah, other teams
- 18:38Speaker 1: are saying, yeah, you know, I heard that the Patriots
- 18:41Speaker 1: are getting calls on all these players. I don't see
- 18:43Speaker 1: how that causes unrest, though, well, like players are like,
- 18:46Speaker 1: oh they're gonna trade me. You know that type of thing.
- 18:48Speaker 1: It starts to cast. You know. I used a long
- 18:51Speaker 1: time ago, back when you were probably before the Herald,
- 18:54Speaker 1: I used to be an editor of a recruiting magazine
- 18:56Speaker 1: for HR. And this one professional recruiter told me he
- 19:00Speaker 1: would call the R and D department of a high
- 19:02Speaker 1: tech company on Friday and he gets somebody on the
- 19:06Speaker 1: phone in the department say, man, I was looking at
- 19:08Speaker 1: the salaries in your department, and boy, they're all over
- 19:10Speaker 1: the charts. He goes, by Monday, I'd be able to
- 19:14Speaker 1: recruit anybody I wanted out of there, because everybody's now
- 19:17Speaker 1: talking about where do I fall on the chart? You know,
- 19:20Speaker 1: so they cause unrest. I just don't think that the
- 19:24Speaker 1: agents are looking to cousin unrest of No, I'm not
- 19:27Speaker 1: saying the teams aren't talking to I don't want to
- 19:29Speaker 1: be disrespectful, but teams aren't talking to the people in question.
- 19:33Speaker 1: I'm sorry, no, but the writers could be talking to gms.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Yeah they're not not You don't think that one not
- 19:40Speaker 1: not here. I'm talking about other teams, gms, talking about
- 19:42Speaker 1: the writers that are reporting it. Oh, Paul's disdain for
- 19:46Speaker 1: the local media, Well he's not local. Do you hate
- 19:49Speaker 1: more of the fans of the media media by fox um?
- 19:55Speaker 1: But my point is, like, yeah, a guy like Isaiah Wynn,
- 19:58Speaker 1: who's constantly he gets moved to right tackle, his name
- 20:01Speaker 1: is constantly brought up. Yeah, that's probably wearing on him
- 20:04Speaker 1: a little bit. But for a guy like Jabrill Peppers,
- 20:08Speaker 1: it's a one year rental, you know, he's got to
- 20:12Speaker 1: he's trying to like increase his value, so he's probably
- 20:16Speaker 1: on board with it. He's he's fine with it, you know. Yeah,
- 20:21Speaker 1: So there's guys are in different positions. But my guess
- 20:26Speaker 1: is in general, and I'm not telling you what you're
- 20:28Speaker 1: saying never happens. I'm sure it does. But my guess is,
- 20:31Speaker 1: for the most part, when you hear you know, six
- 20:34Speaker 1: names are brought up, that's to me an example of
- 20:37Speaker 1: the writers are talking to agents, and agents are saying, oh, yeah,
- 20:40Speaker 1: a lot a lot of interest in my client, right,
- 20:43Speaker 1: a lot of interest because it serves their clients well
- 20:46Speaker 1: to be to be brought up like that. Yeah, especially
- 20:49Speaker 1: if they know they're not going anywhere. Yeah, Whereas I
- 20:52Speaker 1: think Isaiah Win might be one of those guys and
- 20:54Speaker 1: be like, I don't think I am going somewhere. If
- 20:57Speaker 1: the Patriots lose this game and look bad doing it,
- 21:00Speaker 1: do you think the Patriots could become sellers? And say,
- 21:02Speaker 1: I like, there's a much bigger chance of them selling
- 21:04Speaker 1: than buying it. That's what I'm talking about. We win,
- 21:07Speaker 1: loser draws some day. Well, if they co out and
- 21:09Speaker 1: kick butt, maybe you know, Okay, we there's a piece
- 21:12Speaker 1: that we could bring in. Would you do that? Depends
- 21:15Speaker 1: on it all depends, Paul. I can't talk about hypotheticals.
- 21:19Speaker 1: You know, I'm not going to get trapped. Okay, Bill,
- 21:23Speaker 1: good for you. What are you doing? Why can't you sepping?
- 21:26Speaker 1: This stupid plug keeps coming out of the laptop? I'm sorry, Matt.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Can you come in and hold mister Cursh's hands. Grandpa
- 21:35Speaker 1: is having a hard time with the technology. Got it?
- 21:37Speaker 1: The light went on? Okay, thank goodness. Um My my
- 21:41Speaker 1: feeling is and the rest of the lights went off.
- 21:47Speaker 1: Um my feeling is. If they lose, you could you
- 21:53Speaker 1: could definitely see a higher percentage chance of someone going
- 21:58Speaker 1: if they win. I think it's status. Quote. I wouldn't
- 22:00Speaker 1: want to give up any any assets, any resources whatsoever
- 22:04Speaker 1: to acquire anything. No, no, even receivers. We got a
- 22:07Speaker 1: lot of We have a lot of receivers. Know what
- 22:10Speaker 1: I'm saying. I would trade a receiver if I if
- 22:12Speaker 1: I could acquire right now, you wouldn't I'm saying, Yeah,
- 22:15Speaker 1: I'm not interested in losing. I consider the player's assets too.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Oh no, well they do not. I mean, like for
- 22:21Speaker 1: the guys that we're talking about, are all all have
- 22:23Speaker 1: a half a year left as Patriots? I know, Like
- 22:26Speaker 1: that's what I'm like. I wouldn't be like, no, if
- 22:28Speaker 1: I'm not looking to deal Taekwon. That's an assets. If
- 22:30Speaker 1: somebody wants to give me a third round for win,
- 22:32Speaker 1: I'll do it. Well, yes, I would do that. The
- 22:40Speaker 1: conditional seven that you're gonna get when you trade them,
- 22:42Speaker 1: I wouldn't do that. Screw, that's like a third round
- 22:46Speaker 1: pick for a guy who's like lost his job. Foreborghini
- 22:53Speaker 1: is floor as a Pro Bowl guard. But anyway, um, yeah,
- 22:57Speaker 1: so that that's something to watch because the deadline is
- 23:00Speaker 1: next week Tuesday, Tuesday. Yeah. So yeah, when I said
- 23:04Speaker 1: I don't want to lose any assets. I mean, I don't.
- 23:07Speaker 1: I'm not looking to deal like a fourth round pick
- 23:10Speaker 1: to acquire you know, some linebacker who may or may
- 23:14Speaker 1: not factor into the equation. Yea. You know, now if
- 23:18Speaker 1: I could get something for nothing, you know, every once
- 23:21Speaker 1: in a while at the trade deadline, and Bill has
- 23:22Speaker 1: done this in the past, you know, you require someone's disgruntled,
- 23:27Speaker 1: talented play like a NIKEEP to leave. Is always the
- 23:29Speaker 1: guy uses the example. Yeah, if something like that fell
- 23:33Speaker 1: into my lap, I wouldn't mind something like that I
- 23:36Speaker 1: could use, you know, going forward, but in terms of
- 23:39Speaker 1: a rental for the rest of the year, which is
- 23:42Speaker 1: generally the guys that are available at this time of year. Now,
- 23:44Speaker 1: I'm not really interested in giving up a mid, mid
- 23:46Speaker 1: to late round pick for a guy who's not really
- 23:50Speaker 1: going to make a difference. Ye did I hear correctly
- 23:56Speaker 1: probably that the Patriots are favored in this game. Yes,
- 23:59Speaker 1: I find that very surprising. I think it's hit hard
- 24:03Speaker 1: by those two injuries. I think I think that's true,
- 24:06Speaker 1: and I think it's largely. It doesn't mean I'm right,
- 24:11Speaker 1: but this is what I've been saying about the Jets
- 24:13Speaker 1: all year, is like I don't understand how they keep winning.
- 24:17Speaker 1: They're like, they don't throw the ball that you don't
- 24:20Speaker 1: have rainy success. They have a good defense, they have
- 24:23Speaker 1: a good defense, they do, but they're just not very good.
- 24:27Speaker 1: And now they have a rookie quarterback who has been
- 24:30Speaker 1: pretty well protected to this point. They're missing a pretty
- 24:34Speaker 1: prominent linemen. This kid's going to be under pressure now. Yeah,
- 24:38Speaker 1: I mean they have like three linemen out now. Well
- 24:40Speaker 1: they say that like he's the most splitz guy in
- 24:42Speaker 1: the league so far, has been something Yeah, yeah, I
- 24:45Speaker 1: mean I just look at it at number three or
- 24:48Speaker 1: something like that. They only, you know, they only have
- 24:50Speaker 1: one way to win, and that's a low scoring, mucket
- 24:54Speaker 1: up kind of game and get the breaks at the
- 24:56Speaker 1: end and find a way. Now, to their credit, they've
- 24:59Speaker 1: won four a row doing that. Yeah, they deserve credit.
- 25:02Speaker 1: I also think it's I know, the parcels thing, but
- 25:07Speaker 1: that's not always true. The whole Your record is what
- 25:10Speaker 1: you know you are, what your record says you are.
- 25:12Speaker 1: Sometimes you really can get fortunate and the path and
- 25:18Speaker 1: I think that they are making the Patriots seven game
- 25:22Speaker 1: winning streak last year far more impressive than what the
- 25:26Speaker 1: Jets have done this year. I mean, they scored twice
- 25:29Speaker 1: in the last minute to beat Cleveland, and a fluke
- 25:32Speaker 1: of all flukes where if Nick Chubb just takes a
- 25:36Speaker 1: knee they lose. And even though I think he did
- 25:38Speaker 1: the right thing whatever, they played the Dolphins, and not
- 25:43Speaker 1: only they're without Tua, but on the first play of
- 25:45Speaker 1: the game, the backup quarterback has to go out and
- 25:49Speaker 1: they still needed the missfield goal in the fourth quarter
- 25:51Speaker 1: to hold on. They would have fallen behind in the
- 25:52Speaker 1: fourth quarter if Jason Sanders didn't miss a field goal. Right.
- 25:57Speaker 1: They play the Broncos last week in Denver. No Russell Wilson. Like,
- 26:04Speaker 1: I know, Russell Wilson hasn't played well, but this is
- 26:07Speaker 1: a guy who, right, would you rather play Brett Rippon
- 26:11Speaker 1: or Russell Wilson? Right? Like, I think they've been extremely
- 26:13Speaker 1: fortunate in the way everything is sort of unfolded for them.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Are they better? Yep? They have good young talent, They've
- 26:20Speaker 1: gotten better. They've had a good draft. They've had a
- 26:21Speaker 1: couple of good drafts. Now I just don't think they
- 26:25Speaker 1: had that good. Yeah. Now, you could just pencil and
- 26:28Speaker 1: everything I just said about the Jets and the race
- 26:30Speaker 1: Jets and put in Chicago, and it would all be
- 26:33Speaker 1: kind of the same, right, And we saw what happened
- 26:36Speaker 1: last month coming out before this game, and I'm not
- 26:39Speaker 1: gonna say there's no chance I did last week. I'll
- 26:42Speaker 1: tell you that. Yeah. You know what a weird thing
- 26:45Speaker 1: I noticed about the Jets kind of a like a
- 26:47Speaker 1: schedule quirk. The first four games of the year, they
- 26:50Speaker 1: played AFC North teams. They got it all out of
- 26:53Speaker 1: the way. Yeah, like you know, we the AFC East
- 26:55Speaker 1: lined up with the AFC North this year, so you know,
- 26:57Speaker 1: we played Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Cincinnati, and balt More. They played
- 27:00Speaker 1: those four teams week one, two, three, and four, Baltimore, Cleveland, uh,
- 27:06Speaker 1: Cincinnati and then Pittsburgh. You find that interesting, don't you
- 27:11Speaker 1: think that's kind of odd? It's a schedule quirk. Yeah,
- 27:14Speaker 1: well that's what I called it. Yeah, quirk. Yeah, I
- 27:16Speaker 1: just said it was. But now they're now they're hitting
- 27:18Speaker 1: the meat of their schedule, right, Uh. I don't know, Like, yeah,
- 27:24Speaker 1: they don't have the whole thing. You know, they went Baltimore, Cleveland,
- 27:28Speaker 1: since Pittsburgh, and then they went Miami, Green Bay, Denver. Yeah,
- 27:32Speaker 1: you know, and and the Green Bay win. I give
- 27:34Speaker 1: them full points for I think Green Bay's a mess.
- 27:36Speaker 1: But they went to lambeau Field and Blue Doors. I mean,
- 27:39Speaker 1: I give them credit for that win, but I think
- 27:42Speaker 1: there was a lot of good fortune otherwise. Well, I
- 27:46Speaker 1: don't know. Well, I mean, listen, when we went to
- 27:49Speaker 1: the Jets last year, the game ended up not being closed,
- 27:54Speaker 1: but it was. But it was much more competitive than
- 27:56Speaker 1: it looked. And I kept throwing interception. I would agree
- 28:00Speaker 1: with you on that. Yeah, they would move the ball
- 28:02Speaker 1: a little bit and he'd he'd give it to us
- 28:04Speaker 1: and set up a touchdown. And then they move the
- 28:06Speaker 1: ball a little bit and he'd throw it to us
- 28:08Speaker 1: and set up another touchdown. That's how that game went.
- 28:10Speaker 1: And even then it was like twenty four to six
- 28:12Speaker 1: or something like that. Yeah, twenty five to six maybe,
- 28:14Speaker 1: I don't know, ye, So the game wasn't doubt for
- 28:18Speaker 1: a little bit. Um. So, I been a long time
- 28:21Speaker 1: since the day. I'm just praying, you know, I got
- 28:25Speaker 1: my rosary beads out. I'm I'm I'm hoping that Mac
- 28:29Speaker 1: has a good game, because you know what, if I'm
- 28:32Speaker 1: the Jets fans, I'm yelling zappy every time he's out
- 28:36Speaker 1: in the field, it's going to be bus. That's the chance. Well,
- 28:39Speaker 1: who do you who would you rather face? No, but
- 28:42Speaker 1: I'm just to get into Max's head. I'm saying, yeah,
- 28:45Speaker 1: but I'm asking you if you want to call for Zappy,
- 28:47Speaker 1: careful what you wish for. Well, okay, but I'm I'm
- 28:51Speaker 1: doing that as a mean spirited thing. That's what Chicago was. Like.
- 28:55Speaker 1: Chicago came out on the radio, like I don't think
- 28:57Speaker 1: it was from the Bears specifically, but they said they
- 29:00Speaker 1: would rather have Mac come back in before the game. Yeah, Like,
- 29:05Speaker 1: I don't think that was from the Bears themselves, right,
- 29:07Speaker 1: that was the talk on talk radio. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 29:10Speaker 1: when we had our our guest on on. Because they
- 29:14Speaker 1: think because they think Zappy's better or that Max's not
- 29:17Speaker 1: I think I think they felt like Zappy was hot. Yeah,
- 29:22Speaker 1: you know, let's get the guy who hasn't played it
- 29:24Speaker 1: is supposed to the guy who's who's coming in on
- 29:26Speaker 1: a on a hot streak. Now, it turned out they
- 29:28Speaker 1: played them both, and they both The dissection of this
- 29:31Speaker 1: game is going to be brutal, like what plays were
- 29:34Speaker 1: called for Mac, you know, the whole thing. I leave
- 29:37Speaker 1: that to the smart people. No, but the smart people
- 29:41Speaker 1: are gonna have a field day with this one. Yeah,
- 29:43Speaker 1: you know whatever. But but the thing is, and like
- 29:47Speaker 1: I said before, it's important that we on this show
- 29:52Speaker 1: are objective and don't come at it from a certain angle,
- 29:56Speaker 1: you know. So if the plays look like they're the
- 29:59Speaker 1: same plays that have always been called for Mac, we
- 30:01Speaker 1: need to be honest about that and say, what if
- 30:04Speaker 1: people disagree? What do you mean I think this? I
- 30:08Speaker 1: think there's some disagreement on that. Like I but I'm
- 30:11Speaker 1: listening like Rant and Rave, you know, why don't you
- 30:14Speaker 1: you know, why don't you let him go under center?
- 30:16Speaker 1: Like Zappy doesn't? Then Zappie comes in the game in
- 30:18Speaker 1: the first three plays in the shotgun, like, right, what
- 30:21Speaker 1: he's complaining about is not actually happening. Well, that's what
- 30:24Speaker 1: I'm saying. It's like, but it's it's over now, forget it.
- 30:27Speaker 1: It's fact. Yeah, it's out there. I mean. So it's
- 30:29Speaker 1: not only that they're calling all different plays, they're trying
- 30:32Speaker 1: to do it on purpose. Right, So I think the
- 30:36Speaker 1: horses left the barn. It's like, but you know, great
- 30:39Speaker 1: Badard and Dan Orlovsky, Chris Simms is he's another cat.
- 30:44Speaker 1: But I mean these guys like, you know, they're professionals, right,
- 30:49Speaker 1: Why would they think that an offensive coordinator in a
- 30:52Speaker 1: quarterbacks coach would trying to sabotage their own player clicks?
- 30:57Speaker 1: Really a views? But but isn't that like diminish their credibility? Yeah?
- 31:03Speaker 1: I mean it's it's not necessarily clicks and page views
- 31:06Speaker 1: for guys like Ulowski and Chris Simms who don't really
- 31:08Speaker 1: have pages to click. They're just on TV. Yeah, but
- 31:11Speaker 1: they need a narrative, so they're looking at our local
- 31:14Speaker 1: guys see what's being written about. Oh, this will maybe
- 31:17Speaker 1: move the needle on TV. I don't know, everyone's like,
- 31:20Speaker 1: I don't think anyone really maybe like Mike Greaves and
- 31:24Speaker 1: Karen Like, who's going through this with Like, Okay, I'm
- 31:27Speaker 1: gonna have integrity. I'm gonna like use journalism ethics. Like
- 31:31Speaker 1: it's all how can I how can I tweet out
- 31:34Speaker 1: this one quote in a way that'll get me the
- 31:36Speaker 1: most retweets and likes and will look a certain way.
- 31:39Speaker 1: It's it's always the motive. But what they're accusing or implicate,
- 31:43Speaker 1: you know, implying, is to me is sports treason. It's treason, right,
- 31:47Speaker 1: And that's it's like it's like at the end of
- 31:49Speaker 1: the day, we're on a team and you may not
- 31:51Speaker 1: like the guy, but you're you gotta go in it
- 31:55Speaker 1: to win it, and that it's treason that you know.
- 31:58Speaker 1: And that's my problem. Yeah, it's not the plays, because
- 32:01Speaker 1: if you want to tell, like Daniloski knows more about
- 32:04Speaker 1: football than I like forgotten, more than I'll ever know,
- 32:06Speaker 1: he got the guy played in the NFL. He played quarterback, right,
- 32:09Speaker 1: So I'm not telling you that he's wrong that the
- 32:11Speaker 1: plays aren't different. I'm sure they are different, but yeah,
- 32:15Speaker 1: I don't care that they're different. I wanted them to
- 32:18Speaker 1: be different because I know what Mac Jones did last
- 32:20Speaker 1: year with that offense wasn't good enough. And I know
- 32:23Speaker 1: he could have done what Bailey Zappy did if they
- 32:25Speaker 1: if he was given the same opportunities. That's not my question.
- 32:28Speaker 1: My question is can the offense get to a different level?
- 32:31Speaker 1: Can they do can they do some things differently? And
- 32:34Speaker 1: can Mac do that? Now? Maybe he can't. This is
- 32:37Speaker 1: why I said, I'm not letting Mac off the hook
- 32:39Speaker 1: for turning the ball over just because they're calling different plays.
- 32:43Speaker 1: But I think you cross into a different area when
- 32:46Speaker 1: you say that they're setting Mac up to fail, so
- 32:49Speaker 1: Zappy looks yeah, and you know, so people could say, well, okay,
- 32:52Speaker 1: you know Mac can do what Zappy did, do it
- 32:55Speaker 1: because Zappi won with it. But Bill might be thinking,
- 32:58Speaker 1: in Patricia, we've got to get this offense better. We're
- 33:02Speaker 1: not just thinking about today. We're thinking about how in
- 33:05Speaker 1: the hell are we going to compete with Kansas City
- 33:07Speaker 1: and Buffalo. And if we don't start now, if we
- 33:11Speaker 1: don't start now and move from offense one oh one
- 33:15Speaker 1: to two oh one, we're never gonna get there. Right.
- 33:19Speaker 1: You know, we can't start that in December. You don't
- 33:21Speaker 1: want we have to start second year quarterback playing like
- 33:25Speaker 1: he would a first year quarterback. There's no evolution there, right,
- 33:28Speaker 1: we have to, like Paul said, we have to get
- 33:31Speaker 1: better than we were last year. And that might be
- 33:34Speaker 1: part of the problem, is it's not there. Yeah, like
- 33:37Speaker 1: Max not better with these you know, alterations to the offense.
- 33:41Speaker 1: That might be part of the problem. It could be
- 33:43Speaker 1: I just I'm not saying that that's what Matt Patricia wants. Yeah,
- 33:47Speaker 1: Like I can't go there. He wants them to fail, right,
- 33:50Speaker 1: he wants to sabotage him, like and that's the word
- 33:52Speaker 1: that I keep hearing it's it's a fireball offense, and
- 33:54Speaker 1: I can't believe he would do that. I just I
- 33:56Speaker 1: just refuse, and it's just like totally illogical, like think
- 33:59Speaker 1: it out. Yeah, yeah, we got uh close to speaking
- 34:04Speaker 1: of thinking it out practice up. Yeah, so incomes Evan.
- 34:09Speaker 1: So now we're gonna find out Mac Jones wasn't that.
- 34:11Speaker 1: I'm just kidding. Guess where Evan was practice? All right, Evan,
- 34:28Speaker 1: what do you got? Same practice attendance as yesterday? Not
- 34:31Speaker 1: really much new more to report than that. No David Andrews,
- 34:36Speaker 1: no Christian Barmore, no Kyle Dugger at practice today. We
- 34:40Speaker 1: only got stretching, So I cannot tell you much more
- 34:43Speaker 1: than that because there are, you know, some big pieces
- 34:49Speaker 1: there obviously, and I think, look with with Belichick naming
- 34:53Speaker 1: Mac the starter this morning at least for Sunday, the
- 34:58Speaker 1: center situation is really interesting because obviously we know, on
- 35:01Speaker 1: top of just physically playing the position, the mental side
- 35:06Speaker 1: of playing center, making the calls, helping the quarterback out
- 35:09Speaker 1: pre snap and things like that is a big part
- 35:12Speaker 1: of what makes David Andrews extremely valuable. Now, I assume
- 35:16Speaker 1: would be James Ferrens, who has probably just as much
- 35:19Speaker 1: knowledge at this point of the Patriots protection schemes as
- 35:22Speaker 1: David Andrews does. So hopefully penalties, so hopefully that won't
- 35:27Speaker 1: be as big of a transition wow mentally there. But
- 35:31Speaker 1: I like David Ferrens, but he's good for at least
- 35:33Speaker 1: a penalty against James. But that's okay, a close friends,
- 35:38Speaker 1: I can see this guy. I worry about Cole Strange
- 35:41Speaker 1: a little bit because I do think David Andrews has
- 35:43Speaker 1: really helped Cole Strange. Yeah, I do think. You know, Look,
- 35:46Speaker 1: I don't think that there's one hundred percent a pattern
- 35:51Speaker 1: with it, but I do think that in situations where
- 35:54Speaker 1: they are in five man protect and they are trying
- 35:56Speaker 1: to get the ball down the field, more times than not,
- 36:00Speaker 1: I would say that David Andrews is opening left right
- 36:02Speaker 1: like he's snapping the ball and he's going to help
- 36:05Speaker 1: Cole Strange versus go snapping the ball and going to
- 36:08Speaker 1: help Mike on WHENU right. I don't think it's one
- 36:11Speaker 1: hundred percent of the time or no, you know, completely calculated,
- 36:15Speaker 1: but I do think that there are instances for sure
- 36:17Speaker 1: on the tape where Cole Strange is getting help from
- 36:20Speaker 1: the center where Mike on WHENU is taking the majority
- 36:23Speaker 1: of the one on ones, and in a week that
- 36:25Speaker 1: you know, you sort of I don't want to say
- 36:28Speaker 1: under fire, but you know, there's been a lot of confusion,
- 36:34Speaker 1: the lack of a better word, offensively, I would say
- 36:37Speaker 1: that the voice of your offense is David Andrews. He
- 36:40Speaker 1: was the guy who stepped up in the summer when
- 36:42Speaker 1: things we're not looking so hot out there, and he
- 36:45Speaker 1: was on the field. We saw him do it off
- 36:48Speaker 1: the field with us. We saw him talk passionately about
- 36:51Speaker 1: things like that. I think his presence will be missed. Yeah,
- 36:54Speaker 1: I don't think that. You know, the Jets are not
- 36:57Speaker 1: a big blitzing team. Their zone team a Seattle three
- 37:02Speaker 1: type of system, so it's not a big blitz system. Obviously,
- 37:05Speaker 1: they could game plan and blitz and blitz more this
- 37:08Speaker 1: week than maybe they have in past weeks, but just
- 37:11Speaker 1: on the whole, it's not really known to be a
- 37:12Speaker 1: big blitzing system. But what they do will do upfront
- 37:15Speaker 1: is stunt a lot. So there's a lot of post
- 37:18Speaker 1: snap recognition and post snap communication, maybe more so than
- 37:22Speaker 1: pre snap in a game like this, so that that'll
- 37:25Speaker 1: be something to monitor as well, the Patriots has done
- 37:27Speaker 1: a decent job of picking up stunts so far this year,
- 37:30Speaker 1: but that'll certainly be something that the Jets will try
- 37:33Speaker 1: to do against them on Sunday. And then you also
- 37:36Speaker 1: have to worry about you know, Quinnin Williams, John Franklin
- 37:38Speaker 1: Myers two really good rushers, but this is a rush
- 37:41Speaker 1: four type of team, but they do scheme it up
- 37:43Speaker 1: a little bit with the pass rush. Okay, what else
- 37:48Speaker 1: was going on out there? What was you know now
- 37:50Speaker 1: that it's known that Mac is going to be the starter,
- 37:53Speaker 1: did that affect the mood at all? I wouldn't say
- 37:57Speaker 1: it affect the mood at all. Idea affect a mood?
- 38:00Speaker 1: I was a little bit A little bit, Yeah, I
- 38:03Speaker 1: think that as well. The biggest thing is and look,
- 38:05Speaker 1: I know that Belichick wouldn't commit to it being a
- 38:08Speaker 1: long term designation, which I'm sure I heard you guys
- 38:12Speaker 1: talking a little bit about before I went out to practice.
- 38:15Speaker 1: But I think the biggest thing is is now I
- 38:19Speaker 1: would I would move on from all of the Monday
- 38:23Speaker 1: night comparisons between Bailey Zappy and Mac Jones and looking
- 38:26Speaker 1: at it like okay and Max eleven drop backs he
- 38:29Speaker 1: had ex plays under center and ex play action calls
- 38:33Speaker 1: and Zappy had X play action and X under center
- 38:36Speaker 1: and like going back and forth about how exactly they
- 38:39Speaker 1: called the game on Monday night and look at it
- 38:42Speaker 1: from a more bigger picture sense of, Okay, how do
- 38:45Speaker 1: we get Mac back on the tracks now? Exactly? Because
- 38:48Speaker 1: he's the starting quarterback and I think that Belichick made
- 38:50Speaker 1: that clear today when he named him the starter for
- 38:53Speaker 1: Sunday and then also said that this was basically always
- 38:58Speaker 1: injury related, like once they felt like Mac was a
- 39:00Speaker 1: full go, which he is now off the injury report.
- 39:03Speaker 1: In Belichick use those exact words full go. There's really
- 39:07Speaker 1: no conversation for the head coach. It's it's Mac. So
- 39:10Speaker 1: now we have to turn the page to what are
- 39:13Speaker 1: they doing that has led to this statistical regression for
- 39:17Speaker 1: Mac and how can they fix it moving forward? Yeah,
- 39:20Speaker 1: we were talking just before you came on that. You know,
- 39:24Speaker 1: we know that Mac can run the plays that Zappi's
- 39:27Speaker 1: running or ran, but are those plays going to get
- 39:31Speaker 1: this offense better to a point where you can compete
- 39:33Speaker 1: with the big boys? Yea? And if the answers no,
- 39:37Speaker 1: then the time to start the next progression of This
- 39:40Speaker 1: offense is now, not December, not next year, it's now,
- 39:45Speaker 1: and that could be part of the issue. You know,
- 39:47Speaker 1: what we're seeing is like, Okay, so Mac comes in there,
- 39:51Speaker 1: and we want to run offense two oh one. We
- 39:53Speaker 1: don't want to run offense one oh one, Right, And
- 39:56Speaker 1: that's why they're doing That's why it looks different. Yeah,
- 40:00Speaker 1: definitely an argument to be made that quarterback with over
- 40:03Speaker 1: seven hundred drop backs in the NFL is going to
- 40:06Speaker 1: be more comfortable opening up the playbook a little bit
- 40:08Speaker 1: more or pushing the ball down to feel a little
- 40:10Speaker 1: bit more than the quarterback that has one hundred and
- 40:13Speaker 1: twenty or whatever it is that Zappy has under his
- 40:15Speaker 1: belt at this point. But I think the biggest thing
- 40:17Speaker 1: for me is they've gone from like A to Z
- 40:21Speaker 1: in one off season. Right. They were at a last
- 40:24Speaker 1: year with an offense that looked similar, had similar roots
- 40:28Speaker 1: to what they were doing with Bailey Zappy, and now
- 40:30Speaker 1: they're in a completely different offense with Mac Jones this
- 40:33Speaker 1: season that's very heavily vertical based. And you look at
- 40:38Speaker 1: the percentages, just to like put tangible evidence into this.
- 40:42Speaker 1: Last year, Mac Jones is deep passing rate, how many
- 40:45Speaker 1: times he was throwing the ball twenty plus yards in
- 40:48Speaker 1: the year was eleven point eight percent, twenty first in
- 40:50Speaker 1: the NFL. This year it's twenty point four percent, almost double,
- 40:55Speaker 1: and now he's second in the league in the NFL.
- 40:56Speaker 1: So can we get fifteen percent right? Can we get
- 41:00Speaker 1: a middle ground here? And I think that's the biggest
- 41:03Speaker 1: thing for me is that, Okay, they've basically eliminated a
- 41:07Speaker 1: quick game, which is like you know, slant flat or
- 41:10Speaker 1: like a curl or a hitch route where the ball's
- 41:12Speaker 1: just coming out of his hands. He's reading is it man,
- 41:15Speaker 1: is its zone, and he's making a throw based off
- 41:16Speaker 1: of where the open guy is almost instantly. It's quick
- 41:19Speaker 1: call quick game for a reason because the ball is
- 41:21Speaker 1: supposed to come out quickly. They've basically eliminated that. They've
- 41:24Speaker 1: cut down screens. They don't run as many screens, and
- 41:27Speaker 1: McDaniels was a screen guy, so they don't run as
- 41:29Speaker 1: many screens as they did last year. So everything that
- 41:32Speaker 1: he's throwing now is down the field. It's vertical based.
- 41:36Speaker 1: And I'm not necessarily saying that that's not about it's
- 41:40Speaker 1: a good idea to have more of that, I guess
- 41:42Speaker 1: is what I'm getting at but why are we going
- 41:45Speaker 1: from you know, not as much of it to all
- 41:48Speaker 1: of it? You know, there has to be some sort
- 41:50Speaker 1: of balance between the two things. And I asked Mac
- 41:54Speaker 1: about it yesterday, just was this were you consulted about
- 41:59Speaker 1: making this chance? Was this something that you're happy that
- 42:02Speaker 1: they've changed and morph the offense into. And he said,
- 42:05Speaker 1: good offenses can throw every type of pass, short, medium, long,
- 42:11Speaker 1: That's exactly what he said. And I look at the
- 42:13Speaker 1: way that they're breaking it down right now, just based
- 42:16Speaker 1: off of the numbers and off of the tape, and
- 42:19Speaker 1: it's way too much of one type of pass. And
- 42:22Speaker 1: when you play like that, as we've seen other offenses
- 42:25Speaker 1: play like that, you know, I keep going back to
- 42:27Speaker 1: Bruce arians right, and like Jameis Winston in the thirty
- 42:29Speaker 1: thirty season, like you're gonna make big plays, you're gonna
- 42:32Speaker 1: have good moments, but you're also going to have turnovers.
- 42:34Speaker 1: And that's exactly what we've seen so far from Mac
- 42:37Speaker 1: and the games that he's played. So I'm not saying
- 42:39Speaker 1: that they have to go all the way back to
- 42:42Speaker 1: square one, but you know, they've went from one to
- 42:45Speaker 1: five or one to one hundred, real fast here, like,
- 42:47Speaker 1: can we go from one to fifty, right, and maybe
- 42:50Speaker 1: save some of these deeper plays down the field for
- 42:53Speaker 1: better situations in the game, all right, And I don't
- 42:56Speaker 1: I don't have any any fact to back this up up.
- 43:00Speaker 1: I guess is to Evan's point, they probably would have
- 43:03Speaker 1: moved to that as they started off the season. They were,
- 43:07Speaker 1: you know, turning the ball over a ton, and then
- 43:09Speaker 1: he got hurt, you know, and they didn't really get
- 43:11Speaker 1: a chance to evolve into Okay, what do we do best?
- 43:14Speaker 1: We went from this and now we're going to this
- 43:17Speaker 1: extreme the way Evan talked about it. Let's see if
- 43:19Speaker 1: we can find some middle ground and figure out what
- 43:22Speaker 1: are the players downfield that Mac is actually comfortable with,
- 43:25Speaker 1: and then what are the things the staples that he
- 43:28Speaker 1: had success with last year that we want to continue
- 43:30Speaker 1: maybe to incorporate a little bit more often. And then
- 43:33Speaker 1: they didn't really get a chance to do that. It
- 43:34Speaker 1: was kind of a working out process, and then he
- 43:36Speaker 1: got hurt in the third game. Yeah, I guess, I think,
- 43:39Speaker 1: you know, I was hoping the same thing, right, I
- 43:41Speaker 1: was hoping that when he came back from this injury
- 43:43Speaker 1: that they were going to recognize and it's not just
- 43:47Speaker 1: it's not just max skill set, right, it's also the
- 43:50Speaker 1: players on the team and what the other receivers are
- 43:53Speaker 1: best at, and the fact that you have these two
- 43:55Speaker 1: tight ends that you want to incorporate, and you have
- 43:58Speaker 1: an offensive line that quite frankly has some question marks
- 44:01Speaker 1: on it right now. You have a rookie starting at guard,
- 44:04Speaker 1: you have some tackle issues that have come up over
- 44:06Speaker 1: the last couple of weeks. So I don't know if
- 44:08Speaker 1: Mac Jones holding the ball for three seconds waiting for
- 44:11Speaker 1: the plays to develop down the field is fitting their
- 44:14Speaker 1: offense the best. And I was hoping for that. But
- 44:18Speaker 1: in the eleven dropbacks that we did see from Mac
- 44:20Speaker 1: on Monday night, it was the same offense that they
- 44:22Speaker 1: were running in weeks one through three. So and that
- 44:26Speaker 1: is in a zero zero game, you know, opening drive,
- 44:28Speaker 1: opening script, and you're still scripting these downfield plays. So
- 44:33Speaker 1: maybe they come to Jesus eventually with and what you
- 44:35Speaker 1: don't know is what would have happened had he stayed
- 44:37Speaker 1: in right, Like did they like was that part of
- 44:41Speaker 1: the script? What they did? Not taking Mac out? But
- 44:44Speaker 1: I'm talking about the play calls, like the sequence because
- 44:47Speaker 1: it was two three and ounce, you know, like I
- 44:52Speaker 1: don't know again and I before you came on't like,
- 44:56Speaker 1: I'm not like absolving mac Jones in this right he
- 44:59Speaker 1: has a play, well, yeah, like neither of mine, you know.
- 45:01Speaker 1: And I think that that's kind of getting lost because
- 45:05Speaker 1: it's just such a knee jerk to say, well, they're
- 45:08Speaker 1: setting them up to fail. It's sabotage. And you know
- 45:11Speaker 1: you're hearing it like from from Morelovsky and Chris Simms,
- 45:15Speaker 1: you know, as well as Bodard. But that to me
- 45:19Speaker 1: is completely ignoring the fact that the guy is turning
- 45:21Speaker 1: the ball over it in alarming rate. I don't care
- 45:23Speaker 1: what play is called, you're supposed to execute it, and
- 45:26Speaker 1: they're not executing them often enough. The response, and I
- 45:29Speaker 1: hear you, I think the response I'd have to that
- 45:32Speaker 1: is is what they're calling from just a fundamental standpoint.
- 45:38Speaker 1: Fit the quarterback right, because you know, I think there's
- 45:42Speaker 1: throws that are going around Twitter, right and obviously the
- 45:44Speaker 1: interception was a bad one. The interception it's post wheel like,
- 45:48Speaker 1: it's two vertical routes on that side of the field.
- 45:50Speaker 1: They're trying to flood the zone and get a ball
- 45:52Speaker 1: down the field. Him fitting the football into between two
- 45:58Speaker 1: zone defenders twenty five yards down the field. Is he
- 46:02Speaker 1: built for that? No? Also, it was a pass under
- 46:04Speaker 1: duress and he just shouldn't have made it. It wasn't
- 46:07Speaker 1: he was a bad decision. You could set his feet.
- 46:08Speaker 1: He threw it off the back foot like it was
- 46:11Speaker 1: almost like one of those gotta have it plays in practice,
- 46:14Speaker 1: you know, And it wasn't a gotta have it play.
- 46:15Speaker 1: You could throw it away. But that's second down, right,
- 46:19Speaker 1: It's second down, and they're calling plays for him to
- 46:22Speaker 1: push the ball down the field and fit it in
- 46:24Speaker 1: between two zone defenders. And you know there's another play
- 46:27Speaker 1: that's going around where Jacoe Myers puts his hand up
- 46:30Speaker 1: and he doesn't see him down the sideline. It's a
- 46:33Speaker 1: thirty five yard whole shot against cover two. Right. You
- 46:36Speaker 1: had said that yesterday, and I talked about that a
- 46:37Speaker 1: little bit with some some other people would Scott Zolak
- 46:40Speaker 1: is strongly in agreement with you on that particular part.
- 46:43Speaker 1: Are you kidding like Josh Allen, like why why do
- 46:46Speaker 1: you think he's going to be able to make that?
- 46:48Speaker 1: He said he might hit that one out of ten, right,
- 46:50Speaker 1: And regardless of how you know his tools and all
- 46:54Speaker 1: that kind of stuff. It's it's just a low percentage
- 46:56Speaker 1: throw to begin with for him to be able to
- 46:58Speaker 1: hit that throw and the arm straight that it takes
- 47:01Speaker 1: to make that type of throw, especially given the fact
- 47:04Speaker 1: that it's not your first read in the progression, so
- 47:07Speaker 1: you're basically coming off the seam and then getting out
- 47:09Speaker 1: to the vertical and then you're a little bit late
- 47:12Speaker 1: to it and everybody's like, oh, well, the safety's you know,
- 47:15Speaker 1: shaded inside. That's Jaquan Brisker, the guy that picked him
- 47:19Speaker 1: off later in the game by making a ridiculous one
- 47:21Speaker 1: handed catch on the ball after Matt kicked him in
- 47:24Speaker 1: the NaNs. Yeah, so that's a safety. That's ultra athletic.
- 47:28Speaker 1: Eddie Jackson and Jakuon Brisker a really rangy players. And
- 47:31Speaker 1: I had made that comment the other night too in
- 47:33Speaker 1: the post games. Like, for all the things that we
- 47:35Speaker 1: sort of criticize the Bears about heading into the game,
- 47:38Speaker 1: the one thing that no one really talked about. I
- 47:41Speaker 1: don't know if it was circumstantial with all their games,
- 47:43Speaker 1: but the secondary has good numbers. Yeah, Like they were
- 47:47Speaker 1: like the third game has defense in football. Yeah, and
- 47:49Speaker 1: it's a sound scheme that gave them trouble last year
- 47:51Speaker 1: when they were in Indianapolis. So I just think that
- 47:54Speaker 1: there's which no one also talked when you look at
- 47:57Speaker 1: the big picture now of moving on from this quarterback
- 48:02Speaker 1: saga and with Mac being the starter at least for Sunday,
- 48:06Speaker 1: and I think that that really is beyond until he
- 48:10Speaker 1: loses the job. I think, right, let's set but ask
- 48:14Speaker 1: me again, I had about four thirty on Sunday. Right,
- 48:17Speaker 1: Let's get him playing well again. Yes, And if you
- 48:21Speaker 1: think that's the key to the rest of this season
- 48:23Speaker 1: is to get him back right. And if you think
- 48:25Speaker 1: that him trying to hit the cover two hole thirty
- 48:28Speaker 1: five yards down the field to Jacobe Meyers on his
- 48:30Speaker 1: second read or third read in the progression is the
- 48:34Speaker 1: best way to run an offense for the quarterback that
- 48:37Speaker 1: you drafted, then we just disagree because I just don't
- 48:40Speaker 1: see how that's what's best for him. I you know,
- 48:42Speaker 1: what's best for him is getting the ball out quickly,
- 48:45Speaker 1: using play action to create bigger passing lanes and more
- 48:48Speaker 1: open receivers down the field, like calculated shots down the
- 48:52Speaker 1: field like they used to do with McDaniels, And it
- 48:53Speaker 1: wasn't just with with Mac. You know that that was
- 48:56Speaker 1: the Brady offense for a lot of years too. It
- 48:58Speaker 1: was never you know, except for Randy Moss and I
- 49:01Speaker 1: guess you know times with Brandon Cooks, Like it was
- 49:03Speaker 1: never an aired out offense to begin with back then, either.
- 49:06Speaker 1: So I just I don't see how they evaluated it
- 49:11Speaker 1: and said, you know, a vertical based offense where Mac
- 49:14Speaker 1: is gonna lead the league in deep passing rate and
- 49:17Speaker 1: be near the top of the league and average depth
- 49:19Speaker 1: of the target, like this was the best thing for
- 49:21Speaker 1: us to do with this type of quarterback. Like you're
- 49:24Speaker 1: just making you know, you're shoving a round hole into
- 49:27Speaker 1: a square path. To that point, David and Bethlehem writes
- 49:30Speaker 1: in a web radio atpages dot com, Guys, with respect,
- 49:33Speaker 1: you are using the investigating scope backwards. Teams should start
- 49:37Speaker 1: with the skills your players have and grow them. Trotters
- 49:40Speaker 1: are not thoroughbreds at gallopers, not an ambler scheme without
- 49:43Speaker 1: respecting players' abilities is what we have seen. Patricia is
- 49:47Speaker 1: a neophyte offensive coordinator, offensive line coach, schemer and has
- 49:51Speaker 1: retarded Max's development and who has said Judge is going
- 49:55Speaker 1: to is going great guns, stop the progression, peatree, dish stuff.
- 50:00Speaker 1: Please look at the skills of the guys you have.
- 50:04Speaker 1: That's what I'm trying to do. Well, That's exactly what
- 50:07Speaker 1: I'm trying to do. I'm trying to figure out if
- 50:09Speaker 1: I have a guy worth investing in moving forward. No,
- 50:11Speaker 1: but I said that if they're trying to go from
- 50:13Speaker 1: offense one oh one to two oh one, that might
- 50:15Speaker 1: be what he's talking right. And if he can't do it,
- 50:18Speaker 1: he thinks he can't do it. Clearly d David thinks
- 50:20Speaker 1: he can. We don't have a quarterback so exactly. And
- 50:23Speaker 1: I want to find that out now, not three years
- 50:25Speaker 1: from now when I'm deciding on his fifty year option
- 50:27Speaker 1: and the future and getting Baker Mayfield. I don't want
- 50:30Speaker 1: to do because I'm gonna bang this point home. Last year,
- 50:33Speaker 1: the Patriots were an easy team to defend, So they
- 50:37Speaker 1: have to get half dollar for every time Fred said
- 50:39Speaker 1: that on this show. Well, I've never heard a team
- 50:41Speaker 1: I've actually been making a reasonable salary. It Obviously it
- 50:44Speaker 1: affected me because I'm just getting reminded of but that
- 50:48Speaker 1: and that's and I totally agree, and I don't disagree
- 50:50Speaker 1: with David. I think there are some signs. Like Evan
- 50:53Speaker 1: just said on that Jacoby Myers play, I don't think
- 50:56Speaker 1: that's a throw we can make, not consistently, and now
- 50:59Speaker 1: it's not a lot of it's to a lot of
- 51:00Speaker 1: quarterbacks can make consistently. And I just think that, you know,
- 51:05Speaker 1: there are some quarterbacks and like you know, just give
- 51:08Speaker 1: example like Patrick Mahomes. He sits for a year, but
- 51:11Speaker 1: once he gets on the field, he's an MVP. Right,
- 51:13Speaker 1: He's just got that type of raw physical you know,
- 51:17Speaker 1: he's a specimen. Okay, But then there's other quarterbacks that
- 51:21Speaker 1: even with all the physical tools, let's Josh Allen that
- 51:25Speaker 1: it takes three or four years, two full years of mess. Right.
- 51:31Speaker 1: So the Patriots with Mac Jones, of what are fast
- 51:36Speaker 1: forwarding through his development? For some reason, we have we
- 51:40Speaker 1: have sped it up and instead of playing the long game,
- 51:45Speaker 1: which to their credit, is what Buffalo did because they
- 51:47Speaker 1: knew that Josh Allen had some mechanical flaws, and they
- 51:50Speaker 1: knew that he had some maturing and just growing as
- 51:53Speaker 1: a quarterback to progress into the player that he is now.
- 51:57Speaker 1: The Patriots are trying to take Mac Jones from year
- 52:00Speaker 1: one to year four, but we're only in year two,
- 52:03Speaker 1: it could be all right. In other words, you know,
- 52:07Speaker 1: we have to get a little bit more tread on
- 52:09Speaker 1: his tires. But speaking of tires, Brigstone is the official

- 1:03:35Speaker 1: when Cam and Mac were competing, the logic on this
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: show was that you go with the rookie over the
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: VET if they're playing at a similar level, and Mac
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: won the job because of this. I know Mac is
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: in his second year and not an established VET as
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: Cam was, but still Cam is at least was a
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: highly respected player in the league, so it would be
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: harder to move him off than Mac. I believe it's
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: unlikely either Mac or Zappi is the long term guy,
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: but I've seen enough from Mac to know he is
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: not the guy. Zappy on their other hand, maybe haven't
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: seen enough to say with certainty he isn't the guy.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: Just because Mac costs a first round pick doesn't entitle
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: him to the job. In Bilby, Trust, yes it does.
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: I don't think he's entitled to the job. I just
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: think he's better. Yeah, right now, I think he's bad,
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: that's all I think. Pulling the plug on a first
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: round pick twenty two games into his career just because
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: it's been sloppy for four games is yeah. I would.
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: We haven't seen enough, you know that. I know it's
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: They're totally different types of quarterbacks. But I'll use the
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: Buffalo example again. What if the Bills had said, after
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: two seasons of Josh Allen being terrible, quite frankly, he's
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: never going to get it. He has all the skills,
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: he's not going to get it. Figured it out. Right now,
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: they probably have the second best quarterback in the league.
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: Bill and DC glad to see that Mack has been
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: named the definitive starter on Sunday. I also hope that
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: privately Bill told Mack that, barring injury, he'd be in
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: for the entire game and wouldn't get pulled. If there's
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: an inner reception or a couple of bad series. I
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: think both Mac and the rest of the team need
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: to know that he's the guy on Sunday, so there's
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: no looking over the shoulder to see if zapp he's
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: warming up after a three and out on Sunday. I
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: think that's the case. But I don't think he committed
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: to anything beyond that. No, but even with Sunday, like,
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: I think, it's not a bad point that Bill. I
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: hope that Bill has told him it's your game, you know,
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: don't you know? That was the impression I got. I mean,
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: he said he was a full go. Yeah. And then
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: when he was asked of you know, was this injury
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: related last week versus this week? And he said yes.
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: I think the impression that he gave was they just
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: didn't feel like he was physically ready to play a
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: full game last week, and this week they do. So
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: he's starting and he's playing in the game. I'm with Evan.
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: Let's go to the Ace ticket hot line. We'll start
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: with Eric in New Jersey. Thanks for holding on, Eric,
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: what's up? I Hey, guys, I'm just kind of glad
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: we got some clarity now, as you know, to who
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: the quarterback is to do within the best interest of
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: the team, and I'm gonna stand behind mac here, But um,
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: what do you guys think? Where's the leisha? Where's obviously
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: you know, throw eight picks. He's gonna pull Peterman out there,
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: But what do you think is the leash moving forward?
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: Because if you pull him again, I think he's toast. Mentally,
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: he'll be toast. And I'll take that off the line.
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: Thank god. Okay, thanks sir, Eric took the question out
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: of my mouth. I'm just like, how long is the leash? Yeah?
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: If he goes out there and it's it's pretty terrible,
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: much of the same of what we saw the first
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: three drives last week? What do you do just you
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: keep him in the whole game? I think he stays.
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: No pulling him out this game unless he gets hurt.
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: I think injury would be yeah, unless he gets hurt.
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: But which is easy for him because yeah, he can
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: just say, well the angles started, ball aren't. Yeah. But
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: but I think it's it's what happens the next game.
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: But I think that if you take him out against
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: the Colts and you put Zappie in, he's toast. I
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: mean you might as well keep Zappy in the rest
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: of the season. I think the leasha's nine games, you can't.
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: So you think there's no amount of poor play that
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: he can put forth that they would make a change, No,
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: because I think if you're making that kind of change
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: at this point of the season, it's kind of like
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: the Cam Jared Stidham thing, right, It's I think at
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: this point you're you're on a path and you stick
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: to it, and switching the quarterback in week fourteen, you know,
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: when you're when you're I don't know, four in seven
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: or whatever the record would be. I don't. I can't
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: do math off the top of my head, but whatever
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: the record is, I mean, like, what's the point, right,
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: I mean, I think if that's true, and I don't,
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: I don't necessarily disagree with you, guys. I think it
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: might be him for the nine games whatever ten games left.
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: That makes the decision to me Monday night even stranger, Like,
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: it wasn't health related that he came out of the game.
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: It wasn't. That's what they want you to believe. But
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: he had said we didn't think he could play the
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: whole game due to health reasons. He didn't say he
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: came out of the game at the time he came
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: out for health, and in fact, he said no, that
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: wasn't why, and he said it wasn't pretty planned that
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: he came out after the third series. And I know
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: that they're not saying, you know, he got he bristled
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: when Phil Perry said it kind of looked like there
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: was performance. Well, you can write whatever you want. I
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: think that was him saying, yeah, I know why you said.
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: I can see why you're saying it that way, and
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: like he didn't have like the strength to just say no, well,
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: yeah he's gonna because he's not gonna. He's not gonna
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: tell you. And I personally think he didn't say it today.
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: But what Evans said is right. I think that he plans.
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: Bill's thought process right now is he's healthy, he's back,
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: he's the starter. We don't have questions going back and
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: forth now, but I think that that could change based
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: on his play if he continues to turn it over
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: at an alarming rate. I don't think it's gonna happen son,
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: and I think I think he would have to do.
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: And that's what he was talking about. You know when
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: you said, don't trap you can't predict the future, right,
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: could there be a situation in which we Mac is yes,
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: of course, you know, and I'm talking about other than injury, Like, yeah,
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: I mean right, And that's why I think he didn't
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: say it, and that's why I don't think it's a
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: g I'm just like, he just yeah, he just can't commit.
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: I just think it's shortsighted. Like if you're gonna, let's
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: say he plays three more bad games and then you're
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: gonna like, do you really think Bailey's Appy's gonna come
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: in and save the season. No, But do you think
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: that if they play, if he played three more bad games,
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: that he might think this guy isn't the guy. Maybe
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: he doesn't, maybe he thinks that. But I just think
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: at this point, you ain need to sink or swim
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: with Mac. But b I think more importantly, you need
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: to let Mac work through the struggles that he has
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: because a lot of quarterbacks struggle early on in their careers,
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: and I think that's what will happen. And I think
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: even if he does struggle, he'll work through it and
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: they'll they'll try to get through it. If he's like
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: shoulder the whole time, it's not gonna be a Nathan Peterman,
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: he out there until it was four picks in the
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: first five play. You know that's the other quarterback might
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: do that. Sorry, who let's go to the phones. Pat No, no,
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: I didn't. I didn't mean Bailey, Zappy and then Zach
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: Wilson just yeah, yeah, oh oh yeah. I don't see
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: that happen. They don't. They don't let him throw the
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: ball enough to throw that many picks. What's up, Patty,
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: I'm here, Freddy, Yeah, yeah, I gotta have the side
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: with them. And well, most of you guys, all of
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: you guys pretty much you don't know what a quarterback
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: is until a few years into his into his career.
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: And I mean all this talk of I've seen enough
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: in Mack. I mean, have you He's played one full season,
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: a rookie season. And kind of to touch on what
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: Evan was saying, not everybody is a Tom Brady or
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: a Pat Mahomes or even like a Justin Herbert who
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: comes into comes into the league. It's their chance and
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: just completely runs with it. I mean, this, what you're
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: seeing right now with Mac Jones is not the exception.
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: That's the rule. I mean, you're not going to really
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: know what the guy is until pretty much the end
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: of next season, going into his fourth year, when you're
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: getting ready to decide whether you're going to pick up
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: the fifth year option on him or not. I would
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: I see, I'm going to push back a little bit, Patty,
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: and I think he needs more time. I think he's
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: lost injury time this year and whatnot that I agree with.
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: I think the more the exception is the guy that
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: you need to figure out four years and then you're like, oh,
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: he is really good four or five years. Oh, I
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: didn't think he was that good, but year four, year five,
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: he really showed why everybody was so high on him.
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: I think that's the exception. I think if a guy's
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: really really good, you see enough early on to say
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: this guy can do something. And I think Josh Allen
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: might be one of those outliers where it was really
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: bad for a couple of years and then turn done
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: a dime. I think that's an outlier. I don't think
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: there were that many guys like that. I think the
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: best quarterbacks in the league showed you they were pretty
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: good pretty quickly. How about Drew Brees, He was really
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: good in San Diego before he ruined his shoulder. He
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: was good in San Diego, but it took him two
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: or three years to be good in San Diego. Yeah,
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: I think it was a second year he was. He
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: was a Pro Bowl and beat the crap out of
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: us as a rookie. I think, didn't he I mean,
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: I'm not saying that they were in flashes. I mean
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: they were flashes with Mac. I'm just saying that Drew
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: Brees being when he retired the all time leader in
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: passing yards. If you told somebody in San Diego back
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: in two thousand and one that that would have been
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: the case, well, I think I think you mentioned Drew Brees.
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: He's an exception to a lot of rules. You know, uh,
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: six foot yeah, the height, everything, arm strength, you know.
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: And that's the thing, that's the thing that Josh had two,
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: which is why people were willing to kind of wait
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: because it's like, look at this athletic freak the right
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: and it's like, you can't really compare Mac in the
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: same way to say, like, wait, but look at the skills,
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: look at the athleticism. Let's wait and see if that translates,
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: because it's a different That's why I brought up Drew Brees,
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: not because I think Mac is going to be the
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: all time leading passing yards when he retires, but because
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: Drew Brees is not a toolsy quarterback, right right. You know,
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: So I do think that there are guys and I
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: think with Breeze until the shoulder injury and then you know,
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: obviously things got murky for him. But for Drew Brees,
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: it was a lot of physical development once he got
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: in the league. He was one of those guys along
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: with Brady, who I think is the other perfect example
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: for this, along with Brady, that really worked on arm strength,
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: their their physical makeup to maximize their god given DNA
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: whatever they had to worry, right, And I would argue
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: that Brady immediately upon entering the starting lineup showed you
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: what he was capable of. That that's all I'm saying.
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: I think more often than not, you see but I'm
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: not saying signs of greatness. Right, But you didn't. You
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: don't think you've seen in the last year and a
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: half any signs that Mac Jones could be a long
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: term starter in the league. You haven't seen anything that
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: makes you think that a long term starter or a
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: frontline starter. Those are two different things. I think he
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: could be Kirk Cousins, right, I think he could be
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: Andy Dalton, But I don't think he can be Patrick Mahomes. Well, no,
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: Joe Joe Burrow. I think Burrow is a good example.
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: I don't think he could be those unicorn You know,
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: there's not too many guys, No, there are, I mean,
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: but but Joe Burrow is a guy who you know,
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: he's a pocket passer for the most part, but like
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: you can just tell he's got it, you know, like
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: what if you take he's just what if you take
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: a better arm, for one, what if you take Jamar
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: Chase and put him on the Patriots? I think it
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: helps because because I honestly, if you're one for Joe
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: Burrow was rough. I know you had the injury, but
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: before the injury, year one for Joe Burrow was not perfect.
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: Also with a terrible organization and a terrible, terrible team
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: no offense. But right now the Patriots offensive coaching staff
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: and and what's going on around Matt Owns as well. Wow, Fred,
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: I don't know. Well, listen, I think what what Evan
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: is basically saying is that he thinks Matt can be
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: a good quarterback. In this league, right, That's what I think.
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: I've seen moments where I believe that, and until I
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: see him in a solid foundation and then fail, I'm
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: just not ready to give up on it. Good I
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: would I would agree with that. I think he could
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: be good. I don't think he could be great, that's all. Yeah.
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: I think there are twenty good quarterbacks in the league.
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: I think there are probably ten that's that's sucking, ten
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: that are really good. There's just I think he's in
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: the mid quarterbacks that maybe maybe you know, obviously the
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: math doesn't work there, but work, you know, work with me.
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: There's just a few quarterbacks in the league now. I
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: mean I think that, you know, you can kind of
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: sum it up by some of the names we've already
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: thrown out, like Mahomes and Josh Allen that are truly
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: transcendent of what's going on around them. I mean, look
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: at Brady and Tampa right now, right, I mean, Tom
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: Brady's the greatest quarterback of all time. What do you
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: think the problem is with Brady and Tampa right now?
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: I mean maybe him mentally you know now you know,
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: but but can we sort of say, but if Brady
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: would be fine if he wasn't going through what he's
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: going through, because clearly he is a guy it's potentially,
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: but what I'm clearly a man in turmoil. When you
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: see he also didn't want to go back to Tampa Bay.
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: So no, that's but this is what I'm saying. This
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: is not because he can't do it anymore because of
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: those that the talent around him is eroded. This has
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: nothing to do with that. It's the same receivers that
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: he excelled with the team that his team is not
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: as good. He's a complete disarray he him. I mean,
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: I watched a lot of that game of a guy
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: who puts up the numbers despite the team being bad
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: was Deshaun Watson. You know, you could tell this guy's
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: a good quarterback. He's just done a bad team. You know,
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: there was just no doubt about that. Um well, I
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: think a lot of people, Yeah, they don't win enough,
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: but even he, even Deshaun for most of his career
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: in Houston, had the un Hopkins. The Patriots don't have
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: to Hendre Hopkins walking through that door right now. And
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: it's no offense to the receivers that they have because
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: I think they've gotten better there. I think that they've
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: made improvements. I think DeVante Parker, Kendrick Bourne, Kobe Meyers,
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: Taekwon Thorton is much better than what it was in
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: twenty twenty for Cam Newton, or even probably in nineteen
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: and Bradies last year. But they still don't have the guy.
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: You know, they still don't have a superstar receiver that
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: he's throwing too. I look, I just think that if
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: you look across the league in general, a lot of
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: what's going on with quarterbacks that are playing well versus
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: quarterbacks that are not playing well is what their infrastructure is,
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: who are their receivers, what's the offensive line play look like,
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: what's the scheme looks like? He's calling the plays right?
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: And all of a sudden, when guys that have all
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: those things all buttoned up, like Josh Allen, now he's
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: a perennial MVP candidate, and then guys that are not
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: in as great situations are struggling, even guys that I
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: think are good quarterbacks. I mean, I think everything you're
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: saying makes sense. I just am not a believer in
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: the skill set. I mean, that's that's my bottom line.
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: I don't think he's special in any Way, I don't
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: think he does anything at a plus level, and I
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: think to be great you have to be have plus skills.
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: So you can give him better players and that will
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: elevate him. But I don't think it's going to get
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: you where you want to go. Let's go to Sean
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: and Vancouver. What's up Sean. Well, I'm happy they're going
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: with Mac Jones this week. All that said, I am too. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: for sure. Well I won't be happy though, if the
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: Patriots are insane and stick with doing the thing that
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: doesn't work. Over and again, I'm completely on board with
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: what Evan insane. I want to see him run an
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: offense where he's got max protection, he's understanding with the
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: play action, hitting the short and immediate passes give him
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: something easier to do in this to at least to
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: start the game. And then when bring the safeties downs,
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: then you can go downfield when when it's it makes
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: sense like you're not playing on your heels, make the
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: defense play on their heels, make them react to what
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: you're doing. Yeah, no, that what you say makes sense.
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: It all starts with that line. Though. That line's got
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: to play better. They've got to play better. They've got
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: to get rid of the mistakes because they're just max
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: gonna look terrible. If the line looks terrible, it's just
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: the way, Mr Chase. We gotta get better offensive line.
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: Wouldn't you agree, I'm not even talking about bringing into
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: I think they have an average offense. I don't think
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: that they have a special offense. I would agree. But
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: I just feel like a lot of the stuff we
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: say right now is stuff that I used to say
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: about Bledsoe. I loved bled Soo. I what Bledsoe footy pajamas?
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: And I used to say, well, if they just did
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: this and just did that, and they helped him with this,
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: and they got him at and you know what, he
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: was always good. He was never great. I just don't
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: know how many quarterbacks in the league or that exists
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: on planet Earth are transcendent of the situation, right Like,
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: I just want a god that's good enough to that
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: I can win it all with. And I don't think
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: he is. That's all. Do you know? I think that
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: he is individually like, because I guess the point I'm
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: getting at is, you know, I don't know how true
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: this is, but the narrative of always that you know,
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: Bill Belichick thinks that if he's got at least an
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: above average quarterback, that he'll be, you know, able to
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: compete for a super Bowl, right or whatever I think
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: he thinks or whatever. Right, So I agree with you that,
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: you know, is Mac the type of quarterback that's going
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: to put the whole thing on his shoulders and carry
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: the Patriots to a super Bowl? Now, and I'm not
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: suggesting that you're saying that, I'm not being unfair about it.
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: But here's the thing about getting to as getting to
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: a super Bowl, you need a quarterback who throughout the
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: season at times does put the team on his shoulder
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: in order to get that win that you weren't supposed
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: to get to get that comeback that gets you the buye.
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: You know, um, you know you need a playmaker at
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: that position in order to get to the super Bowl.
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: You know, I totally I think you just articulately better
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: than I than I did. That's how I feel. And
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: I don't think he's that guy. I mean, we we've
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: I've showed the Paul the stats that I had pulled
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: after the game on Monday night of you know, they're
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: o and nine when the opponents scores more than twenty
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: five points. They have yet to win a shootout with
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: Mac Jones as the quarterback, like like Brady won a
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: game when allowing more than twenty five points in his
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: third start, right like, and I totally unfair, Okay, I'm
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: not comparing him to Brady, but just the good quarterbacks.
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: I'm just using it as an example of like, sometimes
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: you see something and I'm not saying, well, he's not
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: Brady Paul, No, no kidding, Yeah, he's not, and I
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: no one else is either. But what I'm saying is
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: I saw something quickly and again coming from a Drew supporter.
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: I saw something very quickly now Drew had that Drew
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: was excellent coming from behind, but he wasn't Brady. Yeah,
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: And I think that the fact that we're gone now
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: ten games or so in those situations and they haven't
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: really come close to winning any of them, you know,
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: like when they fall behind by two scores, like they've
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: never really even come close to winning one of those games,
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: I think that you'd see some signs of hit. Well, yeah,
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: you know it's coming, it's coming. He's getting that he's
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: doing this still time. And the worst thing that happened.
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: You know, as bad as Monday night was for Mac Jones,
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: the worst thing that happened was him getting hurt, period,
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: because he would have just kept playing and then we
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: could have seen a little bit more of this. Yep,
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: A couple of quick phone calls and we've got to
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: turn to the picks. H Williams and Philam, what's up?
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: William pay for what's going on? Hey? Hey, just wanted
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: to just want to pologize to y'all yesterday for my outbirth.
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: I was just just frustrated with the team, that's all,
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: and the coaches and stuff. That's all right, apologize passion
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: never apologized as being passionate. Okay, understood. Start it's gonna
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: dropping that far. I'm real back. Um, So the trade,
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: damn mine is coming up or not? And can the
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: city just made a trade? Also? So I mean, I
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: know y'all want to see where Mac is that when
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: I why not just give him give him the um,
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: just give him the challenge and whatnot, you know, and
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: just make a move. I mean did Uh there's receivers
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: that's on the block and whatnot, you know. Uh, Brandon cooks,
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: Brandon Cooks, Um Jerry Judy, h and many others and whatnot.
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: I'd be interested in Jerry Judy, but like Brandon Cooks,
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: like we're interested in bringing him back at this stage,
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: Like you know, we're complaining about the vertical game. I mean,
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: that's but he's a piece for He's a piece for
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: a really good team. I also think I like both
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: of those clas. I like both players, but I think
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: that they're in different stages of their career. I'm thinking
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: in terms of I'm acquiring someone now that I can
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: be I can have with me going forward. Jerry Judy's
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: that I love the idea of Jerry Judy. I just
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: I do think that you know, you got two guys
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: in Jakobe Myers and Kendrick Bourne that overlap a lot
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: with how you're gonna use Judy. So basically, if you
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: make it, if you give up a lot of assets
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: to get Jerry Judy, I think it's a great player,
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: then you're basically saying that Jacoby and Kendrick are not
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: gonna be Yeah, Okay, it's real quick, Paul. You say
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: they have enough receivers. Okay, we all did it, but
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: none of those receivers are none of the names that.
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: I just mean, you know what I'm saying. I mean, like, yeah,
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: I just don't. I like both of those players, but
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: you're gonna tell me that Brandon Cooks is gonna like
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: I think we got to take Brandon Cooks out of
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: it because dramatically change the equation of what their passing
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: game looks like. Is Jerry Judy, I'm not saying it,
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: but he's better than all of them, and any of
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: them better than the pictures receiver. Okay. I think I
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: was told. I was told all summer how they have
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: all these receivers and all the depth and and all
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: sorts of calls about all of them, and I still
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: think that they are good. I really do, you know, Matt,
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: I think the offense, you know, hit a speed bumps.
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: Let's see what happens here now. But I you know,
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: I think I think we've got we don't have, you know,
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: elite receivers, but I think we've got a room full
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: of good receivers. I really do the rest of the
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: LEA agrees with you. I mean, they're getting calls left
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: and right for Agalore, Kendrick Bourne, DeVante Parker, like the
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: people of Jacoby, like everybody's calling the Patriots because they
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: see this log jam that they haven't receiver agents are
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: saying anyway, the problem those guys are going to be
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: free agents and they're drumming up up interesting. The problem
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: is more so, like we talked about with Jamar Chase,
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: it's like, you don't have that bona fide stud. You
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: don't have that number one guy. You know, you don't
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: have Gronk, you don't have Randy Moss, you don't have
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: Wes Welker, Like you don't have that number one guy.
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: But I don't. I don't know if Jerry Judy as
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: good of a player as I think he is. I
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: don't know if he moves the needle like that, Like
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: I think he's marginally better than the guys that if
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: you were if you were another team and you could
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: pick a Patriots receiver to trade for, let's just say
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: that for argument's sake, the price was the same for
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: all of them. Who would you take, Well, probably Jacoby. Yeah,
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: I was gonna say, if I already have a one,
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: I would take Myers. Yeah, I would take Tekwon Thornton.
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: He's the only guy to be interesting. He's the only
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: one we're not trading right, because he's the only guy
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: that I don't know about yet. Yeah, right, and I
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: would like I think that's kind of what Kansas City did.
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: I'm gonna take the first round draft pick to Darius
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: Tony and I'm gonna roll the dice that he can
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: come to my team with Patrick Mahomes and he can
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: maybe fit better like otherwise I have those guys I have.
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: Green Bay might be a team that would take a
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: like like an Agalore and say, oh, he could make
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: a difference on my team because hey have nothing. TJ's
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: in Atlanta. Hey, TJ, Um, I think it was gonna
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: be dead. I am really disappointed in the band. I've
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: been the band for twenty years. Millennials like the first
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: to watch them. Blue the quarter in this light, in
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: this bowl, and I go men to collect narciss system
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: who block whatever quarter back and do something don't see hog. Okay, sorry, TJ. Sorry,
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: I have to cut you off. The phone is not
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: it's cutting in and out. We can't really figure out
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: what you're saying. All right, Um, it's that time of
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: the week, Matt Paul. What happened last week? I'm afraid
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: to ask. Okay, so last week even nine and five.
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: Look at that, Mike and Paul eight and six, Fred
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: seven and seven with the spread, it's not good with
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: the spread. Paul nine and five continues to do better
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: with the spread than he does overall. Fred eight and six,
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: it's an improvement. Evans six and eight, Mike five and nine,
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: go nine and five and then six and eight against
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: As we say many times in this show, with the
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: spread is where we separate. Fred is right the wheat
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: from the chief. Fred is right. I mean it's much
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: more difficult. Um tells me that you probably pick a
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: lot of favorites. I have to go back and check.
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: But Um, I picked the good teams to win. That's
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: what I do. So season standings are as follows. Evan
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: is thirty eight and twenty two overall, far fewer games
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: played than the rest of us. With the three of
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: us that have picked every game, I am sixty six,
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: forty one and one, Mike is sixty one forty six
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: and one, and Fred is fifty seven fifty and one.
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: Alex is thirty eight and twenty four. With the spread.
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I know that I'm obnoxious about this, but
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: I'm sixty four, forty two and two picking every single
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: game by the spreads. Good for you. That's over sixty percent,
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: and it's it's it's insane. And I'm telling you I
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: have a couple of three and elevens common. I can
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: feel it. I'm gonna give you a treat. Uh, Mike
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: fifty one, fifty five and two, Fred forty three, sixty
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: three and two and Evan twenty seven, thirty one and two. Alex,
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: you're still thirty thirty one and one's still time. So um,
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: that's the that's the numbers as they stand, all right.
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: A lot of room for improvement, especially for you. That's
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: what I'm talking About's all I care about. Um. Tonight
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: eight fifteen on Prime Video tonight, the four and three
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: Ravens are at the three and four Buccaneers. People say, oh,
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: this is a good game. What is it? Is it? Yeah?
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't think any Thursday night games
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: are good. But anyway, Tampa by one and a half. Tampa.
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: Throw myself on the ground. There too a point and
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: ahead of the thing that I don't like about him,
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: I'll go first. I guess yes, the Duce seat. All right,
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: I will tell you that Duce took Baltimore both ways. Okay,
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: I'm also gonna take Baltimore. I Like we were talking
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: about earlier, some something going on with bro We'll we
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: all know it's going on with Brady, and I just
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: I can't trust the Bucks right now, Alex, would you
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: like to pick this week? Would you? Uh? Yeah, Okay,
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: all right, let's go. I'm I'm taking Tampa Bay both ways. Yeah,
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: I tend to take the home team on Thursday night. Um,
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: but I'm gonna I'm gonna take Baltimore. I'm gonna play
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: a hunch. I just think until I see a turnaround
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: with with Tampa, I have a hard time predicting it.
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: I'm gonna I'm gonna. I'm going with Tommy. Uh. He
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: spent a week with Tony Robbins and Oprah and Alex
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: and all his friends and they got him right. And
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: I think Buccaneers turn it around. He actually hang out
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: with Tony Robinson Robbins. Oh, he did a whole event
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: with him, right, Tony Robbins, you're motivating. Yeah, and here
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: in Boston, remember Tony Robbins came, Oh no, but she's
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: meant this week. I'm just kidding about this fun see
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: I thought I thought you were being in sight. I
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: thought you were being soon enough. But that's he's I
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: thought he just had like this intervention coming ready. Well,
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: that's that's the joke that you know, Tony Robbins and
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: the actual joke. And they were all you'd be quiet,
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: and they were all in the room and they helped him.
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: That's the joke, so I hope. So yeah, all right,
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: I'm sticking with Tommy um for you getting up early
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: Sunday morning, nine thirty in London. It's the two and
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: five Broncos at the host two and five Jaguars, Jacksonville
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: by two and a half. Mister limit, I may not
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: be able to play. Oh he's playing. He was doing
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: high knees on the plane. He's playing hard. And this
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: is true when I read that, like he's able to
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: control his poops, so he only he only does it
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: once a week. That's some illumina. That's not good. You
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: need to it's actually it's actually twice week, twice Tuesdays
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: and Thursday. Yeah, said, he's not pooping every day. I'm not.
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: I thought it. Yeah, like you figure out like what
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: to eat, like the types of food, so it all
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: gets made into energy and he only has to poop
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: twice a day a week. Can you just imagine get
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: rid of those talks in stole. Alex may know more
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: about nutrition than anyone I've ever met. Yeah, can you
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: just imagine, Like, and he's doing subway commercial on an
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: eight hour plane ride, and the quarterback of the team
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: while everybody else's dozing, offer watching movies or whatever, is
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: working out in the aisles of the plane. Right, I'd
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: be like I was another Yeah, yeah, I'd like hard
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: sit down. If I was a flight attendant, I'd real
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: like I have I have no I'm gonna pull a
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: Fred and make a spie pick here, and I'm taking
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: the Jaguars. I have no reason to agree with that,
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: learning I just I can't do it. This is why
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: I don't really make fun of Fred that much about
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: the picks, because half the time he loses on purpose,
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: just just for the sake of now Mike. In the past,
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: Mike is with um, Mike is with Evan. He takes Jacksonville.
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: I'm gonna go with Jacksonville. I will not bet on
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: a constipated quarterback. Oh oh yeah, that too. Because it's
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: it's Tuesdays and Thursday so by the time you get
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: this Sunday having in London. Um, I agree with that.
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: I will take I will take Jacksonville as well. I
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: don't like this pick though. I just Jacksonville finds a
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: way to lose this. Listen, not only am I taking Jacksonville,
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: it's a lock. It's a lock. Um. I'm really good
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: for me because I took jackson I just really liked
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: Trevor Lawrence. I think he's a good quarter I think
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: he I think he played well last week. But they
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: you know, they come up like a half a yard short.
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: I know it's just like now he has a problem
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: with touch. He's got to get a little bit more touch.
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: But I just I really hope he has a good career.
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: What a waste if if Jacksonville doesn't get its act together. Um,
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: one o'clock on Fox two and five, Panthers at the
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: three and four Falcons Falcons by four and a half.
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: Mike has Atlanta winning and Carolina covering. Huh, Carolinas, they're frisky.
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: Last week's Wow, that was it. That's their super Bowl.
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: They're done. Yeah. I tend to agree. I do really
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: wonder in Atlanta if we're going to see Desmond ridder
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: this year, though, I would I'd like to see that,
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: but I'm gonna go Falcons as well. I'll take the
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: I'll take the Panthers though to against the spread three
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: point game Alex I took Falcons both ways. Oh. I
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: like how she has to do the eric and look
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: up to see who she took up. Um. Yeah, I
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: will take Atlanta both ways too. And the dead has
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: been ritter thing I find interesting. You know what's kind
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: of hurting them is even though they don't have a
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: good record, but that division is so bad they could
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: win the division they could have. It's not that Mariota
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: is playing badly. You can just tell the way they
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: call the game that they just don't trust Mariota to
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: do anything right. Really, you know. Oh, like it was
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: amazing last week they would down like twenty one points
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: in Mariota had had attempted like two passes. Yeah, it's like,
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: what are we doing? Yeah? But like, if Tampa was
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: having the kind of year that they should have had
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: and they had a three game lead over at Lanta,
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: now I think that you're desperate litter thing would be
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: in play for the second half of the year. But
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: if you're Arthur Smith winning the division matters. It's just
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: back to back years. You take Drake London and Kyle
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: Pitts and they work like and it's not like they've
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: been busts. They both lived shown flashes of ability. Yeah,
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: I'll take Atlanta both ways me too. One o'clock, the
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: three and four Bears, coming off a huge win, huge win,
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: are at the five and two Cowboys. Despite that huge win,
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: the cow Boys are still favored by nine and a half.
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: That's a huge spread. I do like the Cowboys in
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: this game. I think you said it was the Panthers
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: super Bowl last week. I think that might have been
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: the Bears super Bowl on Monday night. So I'm gonna
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: take the Cowboys. But that's a huge spread, So I'll
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: take the Bears to cover that spread. Mike took the
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: same thing Dallas with Chicago to cover. Alex has to
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: look at her notes. Yeah, I'm looking at it deciding
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: if I want to go back, but I don't. I'm
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: gonna take Dallas against the spread and Dallas, well, obviously
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: Dallas to win, but both ways. Yeah, I'm taking Dallas
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: both ways too. I think they slowly worked back back
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: into the mix. Last week he was a little erratic.
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: I think he'll be more comfortable this week. I'm gonna
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: short week on the road for the Bears as well.
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: I'll take the points. I'll take the points. Cowboys win,
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: but they don't cover one o'clock four and three Dolphins.
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: Two was back at the one and five Lions, Miami
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: by three and a half. Mike has Miami both ways.
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: This is this is another tough one. I'm gonna take
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: Miami too. Two is still a question mark to me outside.
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: This is one of those you know, situation versus how
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: good is the quarterback? Actually, they started off right and
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: then they didn't score another point right well, largely because
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: he got really erratic. He started getting lover. He was
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: very lucky he didn't throw three or four picks. And
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: that's what I'm saying. I just don't know how he
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: picked the lines to win anything right now. So I'm
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: gonna take Miami. Miami Detroit covers. Okay, I'm gonna take
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: Miami both ways. Um. I think that they get a
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: little of that same kind of deal to his first
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: game back. I think he was a little erratic at times.
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: I think he's better this week. He definitely got lucky.
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: Some of those Pittsburgh defensive backs had some place to
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: make that they failed. Alex Is correct, Dolphins win, but
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: they don't cover one o'clock three and four. Cardinals are
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: at the five and one Vikings Vikings by three and
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: a half. Interesting future scouting game here for the Patriots.
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: Both teams are on the schedule. M Mike likes Minnesota
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: both ways. I'm gonna take the Cardinals flat out. I'm
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: gonna take the Cardinals, folks. As Fred likes to say,
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: that's your upset special of the week. Yeah. So last
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: week they play on Thursday night, right, and DeAndre Hopkins
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: comes back, but it's a short week and they don't
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: really have an opportunity to get him acclimated. We had
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: ten for one h three. I have my fantasy team.
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: Those are better numbers than I thought. They were, just
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: no Touchdow'm not changing my mind now. I think that
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: they figure it out a little bit. I still don't
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: like the Cardinals overall, but I think I think they
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: got to get some wins here soon. I have Minnesota
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: both ways. Yeah, I am gonna take Minnesota, but I
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: am with evan Um. I think Arizona found a little
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: something last week had ten days off. They get Hopkins
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: a little bit more up to speed. I think they cover.
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: I wouldn't be surprised if they win, out right, I
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: think I like Evans pick. I'm not going to go
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: all the way. I'll just I'll middle it. But I
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: could see an upset coming here. I think Arizona probably
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: has as much, if not more, talent than Minnesota. Paul,
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: you are correct, that's the right pick Minnesota with Arizona
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: to cover. That's right. I also know there's some new
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: maps and Call of Duty that came out recently, though,
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: so that also hurts me with Kyler. Now, okay, one
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: o'clock on the two and four Raiders are at the
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: two and five Saints. The Raiders by one and a half. Interesting. Interesting,
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: I can't take the Saints. What say Mike said, Vegas
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: both ways? Yeah, I'm with Mike. I can't take the
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: Saints right now. After watching the Dalton last week was
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: just and he's playing. Oh yeah, he's started. Yeah. Nick
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: Underhill does a great job covering the Saints. He used
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: to cover the Patriots. Yeah, and he he's you know,
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: that's their guy right now. And even I think he said,
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: even if everybody's healthy, they're still rolling with that. We've
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: used Nick on the pregame show when we I think
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: we've used some last year a matter of fact, when
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: we played the Saints. Good guy. Yeah, that's a tough one.
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: Alex Raiders to win, Raiders to cover. Yeah, I'm gonna
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: take the Raiders both ways. I think the Raiders are
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: one of those teams that has a bad record that
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: isn't a bad team. Yeah, I'm gonna go with the
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: Raiders as well. One o'clock two and five, Steelers are
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: at the undefeated Eagles at six and zero, Eagles by
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: ten and a half. Mike Mike takes Philadelphia and lays
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: the points the Eagles are. I think the Eagles are
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: the most fun team to watch in the NFL right now.
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: I love watching the Eagles. They offensively, they're like everything
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: that you know us New ag people that like to
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: study the film want them to be right there. Rpo
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: Field Like it's just great. It's like, Okay, this is
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: exactly athletic quarterback, Like this is exactly what offense in
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: twenty twenty two is supposed to be designed. Like, I'm
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: taking the Eagles. I think they even cover this guy.
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: I think Pittsburgh's in trouble. This spread scared me. I
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: took Philly to win, but I gave the Steelers a bone,
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: let them cover. I did too. I think that they'll
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: put up a fight. I thought they played hard Sunday
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: night on the road in Miami. I thought they had
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: an opportunity in that game. Backdoor cover. Yeah, the Battle
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: for Pennsylvania. I think the Sharps know what they're talking about.
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: Eagles cover. Now we skip over the Patriots at one
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: o'clock and we go to four oh five. The four
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: and two Titans are at the one four and one Texans.
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: Titans just do it every year, don't they. They look terrible,
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: and then they just find a way to scratch off
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: some wins and kept keep themselves relevant. Tennessee by two
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: and a half. It's also bizarre because I don't even
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: think their roster is that good anymore. No, and yeah,
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: they look like they're on their last legs with Derrick
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: Henry too. Tennessee both ways from Mike. By the way,
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: I'm gonna take Tennessee both ways too. I mean, they're
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: still better than the Texans, even if I don't think
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: they're as good as their record indicates. But yeah, that's
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: it's a wacky situation down there every single year. Maybe
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: it's just the division. I mean they play some cupcakes
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: in that division. Tennessee, Tennessee. Yeah, I'll take the Titans. Um.
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: I liked the video of Vrabel with Ben Jones. Did
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: you happen to see that? Evidently Ben ben Jones was
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: like a hair away from the hospital. Yeah, and he
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: somehow made it through the game. And I don't know,
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: I fall for that corny kind of football stuff like
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: it gets me Tennessee like I yeah, I wouldn't go
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: far as far as say I shed a tear, but
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: I like that kind of stuff like that that resonates.
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: But I know, I know with these guys, I think
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: that's where having a coach who actually played the game
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: at that level, yeah, like football like and I was
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: gonna say something stupid like I know what it. No,
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: I don't know what it coach, but but I just
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: can appreciate what it takes to play a game like
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: that and not have it physically. And Fred again articulated
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: it better than I did. A guy who played knows
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: what Ben Jones went through. And I think that was genuine.
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: That was that was cool? Uh the you like the
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: Tennessee both ways? Yeah, me too. Teen Titans um, teen
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: Titans go? Is that what it goes? How it goes?
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: Four twenty five, the three and four Commanders are at
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: the three, three and one Colts. Nobody has to watch
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: this game. I promise no one's going to be upset.
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: I gotta tell you, this is a four o'clock game.
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: Don't watch it. Is that what you say? Yeah? I
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: will be watching this on red Zone for two reasons. No, No,
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: that will not be one of the reasons. Not one
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: of the reasons. No. First of all, it's the Patriots.
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: Opponent next week is the Colts. And I don't know
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: about you guys, but I like to try to be prepared.
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: I like to try to work. But secondly, you got
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: a new quarterback plan. I want to see what he
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: looks like. Yeah. So Sam Ellinger, somebody described him n
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: Solac I think it was he writes for The Ringer
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: described him as Jalen Hurts. If Jalen Hurts was bad, okay,
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: right like that, that's that's sort of what we're samer
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: For the seventeen years that he played for Texas. I
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: always said to myself, this kid's a really, really good
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: college quarterback, and there's no there's no shame in that.
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: He's gonna be remembered forever as he was a really
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: good sounds like somebody who should be low budget western
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: movie Colts by three. But I and Mike likes Washington outright.
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: I don't even know who to pick him this game.
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: Washington's not starting, Carson Wentz right, all right, I'm gonna
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: take the Commanders. Then I think Taylor Heineke is not
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: not He's not He's like Bailey's appy, right, like he's
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: just got some energy about him. No, I didn't, but
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: it's similar. Someday he could be right, Like, it's just
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: the energy that you get with him in there. I
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: just I have more confidence than that than Sam Ellener. Yeah,
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: I'm gonna go with the Commanders to the Colts. Pissed
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: me off? Can we let other people pick? Oh? Oh, thanks, Alex.
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: We gotta get going ways, It's really not like it is.
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: It's not nine minutes for like three games no more.
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: I will take Indianapolis to do a read and then
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: you have Washington. I have Washington both ways. Four twenty five.
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: One of those games is why I separate from three
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: and four forty nine ers are at the three and
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: three Rams? Uh, the forty nine ers on the road
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: by one and a half. Wow. So this is the
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: one where the forty ninety nine ers on the Rams
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: on the Rams stepping the playoffs last year. Correct, It's
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: kind of like the Saints owned Tampa Bay except for
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: in the playoffs. But didn't they play already this year
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: and the Rams and beat them? No, soundly, no way
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: the other way around. I'm taking the forty nine ers again.
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: I just think the Rams are something like they have
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: some players on there that might just be told the
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: Rams are a bad example of what I always rail against,
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: Like it doesn't matter how about your offensive line. Is
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: the Rams can't win because their offensive ones. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: that's because you're a Stafford, you know. But that's like
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: I would say the same thing about Joe Burrow a
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: couple of years, like you can't win like that, like
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: all the time taking the Niners. Mike took the Niners
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: as well, Alex, I haven't watched as much Rams as
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: you guys have. Apparently I took the Rams both plays. Yeah,
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: I'm taking the Rams both ways too, and I know
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: that the Niners absolutely own this thing. There's something wrong
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: with Jimmy g he did. He looks like a guy
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: who didn't have anyways, something wrong. But he looks like
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: a guy who didn't have any training camp because oh,
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: by the way, he didn't have any training camp. He
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: just looks off to me. I also don't for I
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: know Debo didn't practice yesterday. I didn't know that strength.
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: He's on my team, so I know Devo didn't practice yesterday.
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: We'll see if he if he practices today, I'm going
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: with the Rams both ways. UM four twenty five, the
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: six and one Dables are at the four and three Seahawks.
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: A great game Seattle by three. Who who had this
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: one as one of the few games of the week
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: involving winning teams. This was a great game. Um. I've
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: been picking against the Giants like all year, and I've
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: been every time. I think I'm one and six picking Giants.
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: So I don't know if I should continue to pick
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: against the Giants because eventually it will break my way,
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: or if I should pick the Giants and come off
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: of it. I'm gonna pick the Giants and uh DK
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: is not playing in this game for Seattle, which I
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: think is a big difference. And I think that looked
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: they're six and one like they obviously got something going
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: over on over there. Yeah, Mike like Seattle both ways. Wow,
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: without day. I like Seattle both ways too. It's partly
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: just I'm so blown away by Russell Wilson not pooping
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: that I want him to just suffer like complete misery
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: this weekend. I want for Denver now, I want old misery.
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: Why don't you listen? Couldn't need you to listen. I'm
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: gonna take Seattle as well. Um, I'll just continue to
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: be wrong with the giants. Yeah, I'm gonna go with
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: the gents both ways. Um, eight twenty on Embry Sure, uh,
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: three and four Packers are at the five and one Bills.
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: What was thought to be a marquee game has not
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: turned up that way. Buffalo by ten and a half.
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: Ten and wow, how the Mighty have fallen? Wow, Bills roll. Yeah.
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: I like the Bills in this game. I like the
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: Bills to cover. The Bills are good. Mike doesn't go
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: I said it. I know you guys always get on
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: my case about that. I have Buffalo to win. This
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: is the biggest spread of the weekend. Freaked me out.
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: So I have Green Bay covering. Oh okay, I'm gonna
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: take Buffalo both ways because that's what I'll be rooting
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: for when I'm watching you. Because I hate Aaron Rodgers. Well,
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: I'll be rooting for the Packers by a run. The
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: red Ass McDermott's cover eight fifteen. On Monday Night, the
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: four and three Bengals are at the two and five
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: Browns Cincinnati by three and a half the Poop Bowl.
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: These well, I don't think either one of these teams
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: are particularly great, honestly, but I'm gonna take the Bengals.
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: I think Cincinnati's been playing better. I think Cincinnati is
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: this close. I think they're close this clo. Yeah, the
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: defense is pretty good. I understand they made the Super
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: Bowl last year. I just I don't think they're a
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: super Bowl team. I'm not convinced about the head coach. Still,
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: I'm not either. I still think that there's just something
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: about that operation that seems not like a finely tuned machine.
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: But I do think they have a lot of talent.
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: I think they're much better than the Browns as well,
- 1:49:24Speaker 1: So I'm going to take the Bengals, and I think
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: three and a half is kind of disrespectful. Ones. I
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: think this is a lock. Yeah, Mike, like Cincinnati both ways, Alex,
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: I like Cincinnati both ways. Yeah, I will take Cincinnati.
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: But division game, I'll take the home team getting the hook.
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: So I'll take Cincinnati and Cleveland to cover lose by
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: a field goal. Like every other AFC North game, they're
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: all decided by a field goal, So both ways for me, Cincinnati.
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: All right, Now we go back to one o'clock, just
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: in time. The three and four Patriots are just so
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: you know, you only have five minutes, so make this
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: pick fast. I have a read, I have to introduce
- 1:49:59Speaker 1: John Rook. I have a lot of things to do.
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: Patriots are at the five and two Jets. So this
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: game Patriots by two and a half. Sorry I jumped
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: the gun there. This game is an old school comes
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: down to the trenches. Which team can protect the quarterback better?
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: Can't wait to watch this one because both quarterbacks statistically
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: are the two worst quarterbacks in the league while under pressure,
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: Mac Jones and Zach Wilson. So which quarterback can be
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: protected better? Which offensive line do you have more faith
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: in both of them are gonna be missing well, Jets
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: are missing several offensive line with the Patriots probably gonna
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: be missing David Andrews right sad. Yeah, it is already
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: truly a trench's battle. I have the Patriots twenty to sixteen,
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: and I ultimately came to that conclusion because I just
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: I still think that Zach Wilson's skill set, I don't
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: think that he's mobile enough that that's part of the
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: equation here. I agree, and I still think that Bill
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: Belichick is gonna scheme it up with Zach Wilson and
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: have Zach Wilson hand him the game. I just can't
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: I can't see. I can't get over that it's not
- 1:51:11Speaker 1: just in fields where he's gonna turn it into a
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: track meet and run around, you know, the playground, like
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: this is going to have to be an efficient game
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: for Zach Wilson. I don't see it. Mike is a homer,
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: so he took the Patriots both ways as well. Alex
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: I took the Patriots both ways. My score is kind
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: of similar to Evans two. I had twenty seven sixteen.
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: I also like the Patriots both ways a little bit
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: lower scoring sixteen thirteen. I think there'll be a lot
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: of field goals. I agree with Evans point. I think
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: Zach Wilson is very mobile, but he's not a design
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: run mobile kind of quarterback. He'll scramble for some yards
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: and maybe avoid some sacks, but I don't see him
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: controlling the game the way Fields was able to last
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: week with his legs. I don't think he's that kind
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: of player. I think he's too small to just minutes
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: fields in Lamar, right, Like, you know, I know Week
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: one was Week one, but I think Week I threw
