- 0:00Speaker 1: There's something remaining. It's ominous. After that he must be
- 0:07Speaker 1: released for a little while. I don't like that. I
- 0:17Speaker 1: don't like that. After that he must be released for
- 0:20Speaker 1: a little while. We've read on a number of occasions
- 0:23Speaker 1: about this great battle that is to come. About how
- 0:27Speaker 1: nations are going to be deceived. Deceived. And as these
- 0:30Speaker 1: nations are deceived, they rise up against God and against
- 0:34Speaker 1: the people of God. And there is this great outpouring
- 0:37Speaker 1: of persecution against God's people. We've seen that on a
- 0:41Speaker 1: number of occasions in Revelation. That has not been hidden
- 0:45Speaker 1: from us. John has not hidden that from us. But
- 0:48Speaker 1: because we've read that all these times, when you see
- 0:52Speaker 1: this phrase, it's even more ominous because you know what
- 0:54Speaker 1: he's talking about. That right now, we're in the midst
- 0:59Speaker 1: of that time where the gospel is going forth. Right now,
- 1:03Speaker 1: we're in the midst of that time where we're seeing
- 1:05Speaker 1: this rule and reign of Christ in and through his church.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Right now, we're in the midst of that time where
- 1:10Speaker 1: entire cultures have been transformed by the gospel. Do you
- 1:14Speaker 1: realize that? entire cultures, entire parts of the world have
- 1:20Speaker 1: been transformed by the gospel. And much of it you
- 1:23Speaker 1: absolutely take for granted. But the world has never been
- 1:26Speaker 1: the same. And the spread of the gospel impacts cultures
- 1:32Speaker 1: and has impacted cultures and continues to impact cultures. We're
- 1:36Speaker 1: seeing it right now. But he must be released for
- 1:44Speaker 1: a little while. It won't always be like this. Before
- 1:52Speaker 1: the end of the age there will be a great
- 1:57Speaker 1: reversal of fortune if you will. Before the end of
- 2:02Speaker 1: the age there will be a rising up against God
- 2:08Speaker 1: and God's people. And yet Jesus reminds us, do not
- 2:19Speaker 1: lose heart, because I've overcome the world. Amen? We've seen
- 2:27Speaker 1: it before. In fact, John saw it and has alluded
- 2:33Speaker 1: to it earlier. On next week, we're going to look
- 2:37Speaker 1: again at this idea of martyrs and people who have
- 2:39Speaker 1: refused to take the mark over the years. There have
- 2:44Speaker 1: been these periods of history where we've seen martyrs Little
- 2:48Speaker 1: pictures of this where the people of God have been
- 2:52Speaker 1: persecuted in mass and yet Christ is victorious. And yet
- 3:00Speaker 1: he will have the fullness of the reward for which
- 3:02Speaker 1: he died. So, so what do we do with this? First,
- 3:14Speaker 1: we recognize that That there is an open door for
- 3:17Speaker 1: the proclamation in advance of the gospel. And we take
- 3:20Speaker 1: advantage of it. There is an open door for the
- 3:24Speaker 1: proclamation in advance of the gospel. And we need to
- 3:27Speaker 1: take advantage of it. The gospel is being preached all
- 3:32Speaker 1: over the world. The gospel is bearing fruit all over
- 3:35Speaker 1: the world. There are countries that never ever would have
- 3:41Speaker 1: thought about being open to the gospel. That are open
- 3:44Speaker 1: to the gospel now. All over the world it's happening.
- 3:48Speaker 1: And it oftentimes is accompanied by great persecution. But great
- 3:53Speaker 1: persecution doesn't necessarily mean the gospel is not flourishing. Sometimes
- 3:58Speaker 1: the opposite is true. Sometimes great persecution is the evidence
- 4:03Speaker 1: that the gospel is beginning to flourish. And people have
- 4:06Speaker 1: to rise up against it to try to stamp it
- 4:08Speaker 1: out by persecution. Which inevitably... leads to even greater increase
- 4:14Speaker 1: of the effectiveness of the gospel as God's people endure hardship.
- 4:22Speaker 1: There's a great open door. Secondly, this door won't always
- 4:26Speaker 1: be open. The end is coming. And when Christ returns,
- 4:34Speaker 1: he won't return to bring a great thousand years second chance.
- 4:41Speaker 1: When he returns, he will judge the world in righteousness.
- 4:47Speaker 1: And it will be over. Which means there needs to
- 4:52Speaker 1: be an urgency about us. An urgency to see the
- 4:58Speaker 1: gospel go forth. Not just amongst those closest to us,
- 5:03Speaker 1: but amongst all those in the world. By the way, why?
- 5:08Speaker 1: Why would we do that? See, the natural tendency is
- 5:11Speaker 1: for me to be selfish. The natural tendency is for
- 5:13Speaker 1: me to say, I got mine. But when I understand
- 5:18Speaker 1: who Christ is, when I understand that he is Lord,
- 5:22Speaker 1: when I understand that he saved me in order that
- 5:25Speaker 1: he might exercise his reign in and through me, now
- 5:29Speaker 1: all of a sudden I can't be satisfied with just
- 5:31Speaker 1: me being saved. when I realized that the one who
- 5:37Speaker 1: rescued me and saved me is about the business of
- 5:44Speaker 1: rescuing and saving the nations, then all of a sudden
- 5:48Speaker 1: I too have to be about the business of proclaiming
- 5:52Speaker 1: the gospel among the nations. Nothing else makes sense when
- 5:57Speaker 1: I understand this. And here's the good news. We are
- 6:02Speaker 1: guaranteed success. Amen. Why? Because he will save his people.
- 6:11Speaker 1: That's why his name is Jesus. Amen. You should call
- 6:14Speaker 1: his name Jesus. Why? Because he'll save his people. His
- 6:18Speaker 1: name is not Jesus because he might kind of have
- 6:20Speaker 1: a chance to maybe save some people if that. No,
- 6:24Speaker 1: his name is Jesus because he saves his people. He
- 6:28Speaker 1: will save his people. He will. Amen. And he hasn't
- 6:32Speaker 1: returned yet, which means he's still about the business of
- 6:34Speaker 1: saving his people. And the gospel is still bearing much fruit.
- 6:37Speaker 1: So when we preach the gospel, the gospel will bear fruit.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Our success is guaranteed. Amen. It may not look like
- 6:44Speaker 1: we want it to look. That doesn't mean we get
- 6:47Speaker 1: everybody we want. But that means he gets everyone for
- 6:52Speaker 1: whom he died. But there's another thing. This goes straight
- 7:02Speaker 1: to the heart of our own personal holiness. If Christ
- 7:11Speaker 1: is ruling and reigning, you remember how he taught us
- 7:13Speaker 1: to pray? Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
- 7:19Speaker 1: your kingdom come, you're connected to that, will be done
- 7:25Speaker 1: on earth as it is in heaven. His kingdom is
- 7:27Speaker 1: the place where he rules and reigns. if I believe
- 7:30Speaker 1: that his kingdom is here, that his kingdom is now,
- 7:32Speaker 1: if I believe that his kingdom is being expressed in
- 7:35Speaker 1: and through his church, that I believe that his rule
- 7:37Speaker 1: and his reign must be expressed in and through his church,
- 7:41Speaker 1: which means that I believe his rule and reign has
- 7:42Speaker 1: to be expressed through me, which means that I seek
- 7:47Speaker 1: to live in obedience to my reigning king. And I
- 7:57Speaker 1: ask myself, Am I living like I believe Christ is reigning?
- 8:03Speaker 1: Forget whether or not I believe Christ is reigning out there.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Do I believe Christ is reigning in here? Do I
- 8:15Speaker 1: believe that? My life, my life will bear evidence to
- 8:22Speaker 1: that effect. Let me say something to those of you
- 8:31Speaker 1: who have loved ones, family members who are not saved.
- 8:38Speaker 1: That's all of us in this room. That's every last
- 8:41Speaker 1: one of us. There is hope because there is a
- 8:50Speaker 1: gospel to preach because there is a king who reigns
- 8:58Speaker 1: Because there is a season for the gospel to flourish.
- 9:03Speaker 1: And we must hold out hope. We have to. We
- 9:08Speaker 1: have to. Because that's the age in which we live.
- 9:11Speaker 1: I don't know who that person is to you. They
- 9:16Speaker 1: may be seated next to you today. My prayer for
- 9:20Speaker 1: you is that you will hold out hope. And that
- 9:23Speaker 1: more importantly, you will hold out the gospel. Because the
- 9:26Speaker 1: gospel is the power of God and the salvation. Christ
- 9:32Speaker 1: will have the fullness of the reward for which he died.
- 9:36Speaker 1: We know that. We can hope in that. We can
- 9:40Speaker 1: hold on to that. We can believe that. And praise God,
- 9:44Speaker 1: if we open our eyes, we can see that. If
- 9:50Speaker 1: you are here today and you have not Come to
- 9:56Speaker 1: repentance and faith in Christ. I beseech you, bow the
- 10:02Speaker 1: knee to him. If you are here today and you're
- 10:09Speaker 1: depending on something other than the finished work of Christ
- 10:14Speaker 1: to see you through what we're about to look at
- 10:17Speaker 1: in the rest of this chapter, help you There is
- 10:23Speaker 1: no hope for you apart from Christ. Run to Him.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Receive Him. Repent of your sin. Repent of your independence.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Repent of your trust in yourself. Repent of your feeble
- 10:45Speaker 1: attempts to find sufficient righteousness in doing the right thing.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Repent in holding out hope that somehow God will grade
- 10:57Speaker 1: on the curve and that you'll get by because you
- 11:01Speaker 1: were better than somebody. Repent. Christ died for sin once
- 11:08Speaker 1: for all, the just for the unjust that he might
- 11:11Speaker 1: bring us back to God. If you believe anything other
- 11:14Speaker 1: than that death will suffice for you, that is blasphemy.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Because you believe you can do a work that is
- 11:22Speaker 1: more significant in the sight of God than the death
- 11:24Speaker 1: of his only begotten son. You know better than that.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Turn from that. Receive Christ. Rejoice in him.
