- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop and I am in the
- 0:31chicken coop today. Rain, rain, rain, rain and more
- 0:34rain. So we are inside and it's really
- 0:37actually nice in here with the sound on the metal roof.
- 0:40It's pretty cool. Anyway, today we are talking
- 0:43about how you define yourself. This is always a fascinating
- 0:47question to ask somebody, or even yourself for that matter,
- 0:51because most of the time we don't think about defining
- 0:53ourselves. We just think about, you know,
- 0:56what we have to do and the chores of the day and what has
- 0:59to get done. And we rarely take the time to
- 1:01pause and say, wait, how do I define myself?
- 1:05Because we have so many different areas of ourselves.
- 1:09Most of us have relationships, whether we're children to
- 1:13somebody or we're parents to somebody or we're grandchildren
- 1:16to somebody. We're partners, we're wives,
- 1:19we're husbands, we're, you know, an employee, a business owner, a
- 1:26leader. All these different roles
- 1:29actually are used in the definitions of ourselves.
- 1:33But I'm not just talking about the big role portion of this.
- 1:36I'm talking about the humanness of you.
- 1:39How do you define the humanness of yourself when you get down to
- 1:42it, the phrases I am, whatever that I am might be.
- 1:47I am creative. I am loving.
- 1:49I am, you know, abundant. How do you think of yourself?
- 1:54How do you define yourself? And typically, this isn't
- 2:00something that anyone teaches you.
- 2:02This isn't something that you sit there in school and you say,
- 2:05OK, I'm going to figure out how now, how I define myself, what
- 2:08happens. It is it comes out in the
- 2:11moments. I am frustrated, I am sad, I am
- 2:14overwhelmed. We use that phrase so readily
- 2:18when it comes to certain things, but not typically the healthy
- 2:22things. It usually shows up with the
- 2:25unhealthy aspects of stuff, and before you know it, we're in a
- 2:30place where we are actually really like embedding this into
- 2:35our subconscious that this is who we are.
- 2:37I I am broke. I am out of money.
- 2:41I am whatever language you want to use on it.
- 2:44Lots of times this shows up with money.
- 2:46So it's important to pay attention to that piece because
- 2:49it's a very sensitive spot as you've heard me mention before.
- 2:52But this I am phrase tends to show up in the negatives and you
- 3:00know, I am out of, I'm out of ideas, I'm starving, I love that
- 3:06one. When people say that I'm
- 3:07starving, I'm not starving, we're hungry.
- 3:10It's that simple. But we always over exaggerate
- 3:13and then we put ourselves in this place of lack.
- 3:15And once you start that again, the phrase I am many teachers
- 3:21will talk about the fact, especially especially if you're
- 3:24in in, you know, religious teachers or spiritual teachers.
- 3:28The I am phrase is the closest phrase that you can use to the
- 3:34holy ground, if you will, because it's talking directly
- 3:38and at to whatever you might believe, to God, to the
- 3:41universe, and it speaks to how you view yourself in the world.
- 3:45So when you start using it, and you use it haphazardly, it is a
- 3:50dangerous, dangerous pond of thin ice, my friends.
- 3:55So the first step in this is asking yourself, well, how do I
- 3:58define myself? Grab a piece of paper, sit down
- 4:02and start to ask yourself, well, what else?
- 4:04What are the other things you you'll start, you'll get a few
- 4:07off that your head right away. Like was when I start mine, one
- 4:09of the very first things that comes up for me is I'm creative.
- 4:13It's part of my identity that I developed early on in my life.
- 4:16And I am very, very blessed that I had a grandmother who really,
- 4:21like, poured into that part of me and talked about it all the
- 4:24time. Any time I drew something for
- 4:26her or any time I painted something, she would always say,
- 4:29Oh my gosh, you're so creative. You're so creative.
- 4:32You're so creative. So I believed her.
- 4:35And it was fortunate for me that she was putting in something
- 4:38really wonderful because very easily she could have been
- 4:41putting in something not so wonderful, You know, And that
- 4:45happens all the time. You know, it happens all the
- 4:47time where somebody doesn't realize what they're doing, you
- 4:51know and boom, before you know it, what their view of you
- 4:55becomes your belief and your I am's.
- 4:58But when you sit down and you start asking the question, who
- 5:02am I? How do you define yourself
- 5:04across the board? I am organized.
- 5:07I am full of love. I'm kind.
- 5:10I share readily with my friends. These definitions are the road
- 5:18map to defining yourself, yes, but redefining yourself?
- 5:23Really. So if there are things on there
- 5:26that you don't feel are accurate about yourself, when you look
- 5:31back at the list and you say, well, you know, I I I am like,
- 5:36especially around the negative ones.
- 5:37If you look back and you say, well, this is here, but I don't
- 5:40want this to be here, you can redefine this, but you've got to
- 5:43be honest with yourself when you start to write the list.
- 5:46So the first thing you're going to notice is you'll come up with
- 5:50a few right away. And they may be positive, they
- 5:53may be negative, they may be a mix, mix, mix of both.
- 5:55But it's not important that you sit there and say, OK, these are
- 6:00negative, these are positive. What's important is that you
- 6:03nail the list down and get that first wave, then there'll be a
- 6:07second wave. So I suggest what you do is you
- 6:09kind of keep it out. That's really loud right now
- 6:12because he's right above my head.
- 6:14You get you the second list will show up, or the second part of
- 6:18the list, and it will flow out of you over the course,
- 6:22typically of 24 to 48 hours, where you'll start to get more
- 6:26and more clarity. You'll have more and more things
- 6:28that pour out of you. You'll have a thought and write
- 6:30it down. You'll have a thought and write
- 6:32it down. So some people find that doing
- 6:34this on paper with a pencil is great.
- 6:36Some people will keep notes on their phone.
- 6:38But whatever. Whichever way you decide to do
- 6:40it, allow yourself enough time to get a full list of things and
- 6:44a full identity that you know you feel is pretty accurate of
- 6:49how you see yourself currently. Then you can go back and say
- 6:53which ones of these do I want to keep, and which ones of these do
- 6:57I want to reshape. And the reshaping process is
- 7:01simply taking those negatives, moving them off the list, or
- 7:05rewriting them, in other words. So if you think I'm poor, I'm
- 7:09broke. If that's on your list, a
- 7:11positive would be I'm abundant, I have more than enough money.
- 7:15I'm a money magnet. You can start doing the flip the
- 7:19opposite. Will these feel right in the
- 7:21beginning? No.
- 7:22But this is part of the re identification that you're going
- 7:25through, the redefining if you will.
- 7:27So you just have to be patient with yourself and start the
- 7:29process off. So right now that's what you're
- 7:32going to focus on. That's what you're going to do.
- 7:33And I hope you guys have a fabulous day defining who am I.
- 7:38I'll see you guys tomorrow. Bye.
