- 1:43Speaker 3: you can get in touch with us. I'm your host
- 1:45Speaker 3: bo Bounds straight funk with me. The Dancing Rabbit Golf
- 1:49Speaker 3: text line is six oh one eight eight five three
- 1:53Speaker 3: seven seven six. You can find us on x at
- 1:58Speaker 3: bow Bounds tweet to us and the Stella Artois collar
- 2:04Speaker 3: Lina six oh one seven zero seven thirty seven fifty.
- 2:10Speaker 1: I thought Mike d was fantastic.
- 2:13Speaker 3: Again some more insight on Drew Brees and his speech
- 2:17Speaker 3: and how spectacular and powerful it was, and how much
- 2:21Speaker 3: fun it was for y'all to relive the dynasty and
- 2:25Speaker 3: the greatness of the New Orleans Saints under Drew and
- 2:27Speaker 3: Shawn and Mickey Loomis, who Drew gave credit to also,
- 2:35Speaker 3: and then.
- 2:35Speaker 1: We switch gears.
- 2:36Speaker 3: This LSU defensive line class they're going to have to
- 2:39Speaker 3: rely on. I mean, they've got some upperclassmen, but they've
- 2:43Speaker 3: got these three freshmen that they're talking about. What can
- 2:46Speaker 3: they do? How good will they be? Can they stay healthy?
- 2:49Speaker 3: What kind of impact will they have? Will one of
- 2:51Speaker 3: them start? Two of them are from Louisiana, one of
- 2:54Speaker 3: them are from one of them is from Georgia. Two
- 2:58Speaker 3: of them were five stars, the other was a four star.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Lowest rated was ninety six, all right, the other two
- 3:06Speaker 3: were ninety nine to ninety eight, and you know you've
- 3:11Speaker 3: you there. Look, I don't want to call them necessarily
- 3:15Speaker 3: undersize because you can come in all shapes. Yeah, we
- 3:18Speaker 3: saw Drew Brees go the Hall of Fame. Uh, but
- 3:26Speaker 3: we've had some defensive linemen go through Oxford and start
- 3:31Speaker 3: Bull who have not necessarily been six foot four two
- 3:35Speaker 3: ninety and have still been incredible, and some have gone
- 3:40Speaker 3: on to play in the NFL. So you don't ever
- 3:45Speaker 3: know where you're going to be. How you know what
- 3:48Speaker 3: scheme and so on they're going to use you if
- 3:51Speaker 3: you're two sixty to two eighty. Now the other dudes
- 3:54Speaker 3: maybe down to three twenty.
- 3:57Speaker 1: We'll see. He started pretty pretty heavy.
- 3:59Speaker 3: His name's rich Dan Anderson out of Edna Carr, which is,
- 4:04Speaker 3: according to Mike Dettillier, the number one high school football
- 4:07Speaker 3: program in the state Louisiana, which is saying something holy smokes.
- 4:14Speaker 3: As much improved as our high school football is m
- 4:17Speaker 3: AI S and MHSAA, Louisiana high school football is filthy.
- 4:22Speaker 3: And so we'll see and we get they get tested early.
- 4:27Speaker 3: Clemson week one, ole Miss Week three and A and
- 4:31Speaker 3: m Week four for LSU. We've talked about ole Miss
- 4:34Speaker 3: and Mississippi State. Three of their first four games are nasty.
- 4:38Speaker 3: You know, ole Miss doesn't get to start off with
- 4:40Speaker 3: a cupcake stretch. Louisville neutral field, could be will be challenged.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Week three, LSU at home at Florida. That's a tough deal.
- 4:51Speaker 3: Three or first four, Right, you get to give me
- 4:54Speaker 3: in week two where you get to kind of play
- 4:57Speaker 3: everybody and have fun and leave it halftime, go do
- 5:01Speaker 3: whatever you want to do, Go get some food or tailgate.
- 5:04Speaker 3: H But week one, week three and week four brutal
- 5:08Speaker 3: for all miss for Mississippi State. Week two, Week three,
- 5:13Speaker 3: week four will decide a lot or maybe you know who, what,
- 5:18Speaker 3: where and why with Jeff Levy at Minnesota at South Carolina,
- 5:22Speaker 3: Missouri at home. And I'm not saying any of those
- 5:24Speaker 3: are great teams, but for where you are or where
- 5:27Speaker 3: you're not or where you may be, that that stretch
- 5:32Speaker 3: horse Bamas next and for ol miss they get they
- 5:36Speaker 3: get an off week and then they go on a
- 5:39Speaker 3: gauntlet Bandy Missouri, Texas, Auburn, Georgia, Oklahoma, So y'all get it.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Adding adding a ninth game we're not ready for. We're
- 5:50Speaker 3: trying to be ready, but we're not ready for. And
- 5:53Speaker 3: it's going to be more losses for you know, teams,
- 5:58Speaker 3: and I don't we'll just see how how we adjust.
- 6:02Speaker 3: You know, we can't wrap our brain around. We won't
- 6:04Speaker 3: allow our brain to really absorb that. The Indiana Hoosiers
- 6:09Speaker 3: won the national championship in this weird kind of nuclear
- 6:16Speaker 3: engineering professor and Kurt Signetti runs their team quirky, weird, smart,
- 6:26Speaker 3: and didn't get didn't get a powerful job till after
- 6:29Speaker 3: he was sixty years old. Most people are they're not done,
- 6:35Speaker 3: but any stretch. But and they people are having insane
- 6:39Speaker 3: success sixties, seventies and even eighties. But to wait, I mean,
- 6:45Speaker 3: to have to wait that long because of your journey.
- 6:49Speaker 3: All in his twenties, no, all in his thirties, no
- 6:54Speaker 3: forties no, Okay, So think about this. You're plodding through
- 6:59Speaker 3: your going through your journey. You're going through your career. Okay,
- 7:04Speaker 3: you're you're thirty years out and you're at IUPA and
- 7:12Speaker 3: that's fine. But I mean you've been at Alabama. Everybody's
- 7:17Speaker 3: getting hired off the staff in O nine, ten eleven
- 7:20Speaker 3: while you're there. Now you can pour gatorade on the sideline.
- 7:24Speaker 3: I mean, we all got silly with it, right, Oh
- 7:27Speaker 3: my god. That means he's going to be great. But
- 7:29Speaker 3: as a good friend of mine in the football business said,
- 7:32Speaker 3: when they leave Belichick's nest and Saban's nest, Belichick and
- 7:36Speaker 3: Saban don't go with them, And for some reason, as
- 7:39Speaker 3: sports fans, we can't wrap our brain around that. And
- 7:43Speaker 3: so at fifty two years old, I mean, he's got
- 7:49Speaker 3: to make the run to IUPA. Elon and James Madison.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Y'all have never watched any of those games. It wasn't
- 8:01Speaker 3: even worth watching James Madison the College Football Playoff this year,
- 8:06Speaker 3: and not that they didn't do an amazing job to
- 8:08Speaker 3: have a good season. And the deal is what it is.
- 8:12Speaker 3: They're not going to clim it. We're allowing G five
- 8:15Speaker 3: teams into the college Football Playoff. Hey, more power to
- 8:17Speaker 3: what James Madison did, and Bob Chesney parlayed that into
- 8:21Speaker 3: the job at UCLA. But my point is, Kurt signety
- 8:26Speaker 3: three decades into his career, I'm the head coach at LUPA,
- 8:31Speaker 3: which none of y'all had ever heard of. And then Elon,
- 8:38Speaker 3: who SEC teams beat like seventy to three on a
- 8:44Speaker 3: September tenth game, and then he goes to James Madison.
- 8:49Speaker 3: He doesn't get his dream job or that's the same
- 8:52Speaker 3: his dream job. He doesn't get a power for he
- 8:55Speaker 3: gets the worst power for job. Or yeah, at post
- 9:01Speaker 3: sixty years old and now he's making thirteen million a
- 9:04Speaker 3: year with a one hundred million dollar contract and he's
- 9:12Speaker 3: a national championship coach. And I don't think we would
- 9:16Speaker 3: be surprised if they're in the college football I think
- 9:18Speaker 3: we'd be surprised to go back to back, but I
- 9:21Speaker 3: don't think we'd be surprised if he's in the college
- 9:23Speaker 3: football playoff, which, by the way, it looks like they
- 9:27Speaker 3: are meeting with the ESPN. Did you see Ross Dellenser
- 9:30Speaker 3: what he dropped yesterday or the day before. They're meeting
- 9:34Speaker 3: to try to figure out a way to get to
- 9:36Speaker 3: sixteen teams? No way, Dancing Rabbit, golf tax line six
- 9:41Speaker 3: zho one eight eight five three seven seven six Chas
- 9:45Speaker 3: Lindsey with Polito's and Rowans at nine thirty.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Look what's on before We're all gonna die?
- 10:28Speaker 3: Okay, hey, hey, out of bounds one oh five down

- 11:03Speaker 1: Down to the zone and.
- 11:05Speaker 3: We get closer and closer. I can feel the excitement.
- 11:09Speaker 3: I met with someone yesterday and this guy was so
- 11:14Speaker 3: fired up.
- 11:14Speaker 1: I didn't even know what to do.
- 11:16Speaker 3: And I got fired up over the weekend watching Drew Brees,
- 11:19Speaker 3: Larry Fitzgerald, Luke Keighley, Adam Vine Terry and Roger Craig
- 11:24Speaker 3: plus all the other people who presented for them or
- 11:27Speaker 3: were a part of it. It was really cool to
- 11:30Speaker 3: see the Hall of famers that go every year to
- 11:33Speaker 3: welcome in the new class too. I'm trying to figure
- 11:37Speaker 3: out if Warren Moon is my favorite player of all time.
- 11:41Speaker 3: If not, he's in the top you know less than
- 11:44Speaker 3: a handful, you know what I'm saying. Yeah, we're live
- 11:47Speaker 3: in the Bank plus Studio. We're streaming live on the
- 11:50Speaker 3: Out of Bounds radio app. Yes, you can find the
- 11:53Speaker 3: out of Bounds Hats and Whiskey sixty one hats on

- 12:03Speaker 3: We are gonna do the microphone. I'm not sure why
- 12:07Speaker 3: I didn't do it. We couldn't keep that was years ago,
- 12:12Speaker 3: but they looked great and so.
- 12:16Speaker 1: You know.
- 12:17Speaker 3: And then on top of that, Luke Avenue at the
- 12:18Speaker 3: Rogue Men's Store, who has all the old miss and
- 12:21Speaker 3: Mississippi State Peter Malar gear for you right now, he
- 12:26Speaker 3: did about a dozen Peter Mallar pieces for us with
- 12:29Speaker 3: the microphone on the left chest and the Whiskey sixty
- 12:32Speaker 3: one logo on the left sleeve. They are absolutely electric
- 12:39Speaker 3: in caps. You can find all the Peter Malar gear
- 12:45Speaker 3: Old miss and Mississippi State at the Rogue Men's Store
- 12:49Speaker 3: in Jackson. And then you can hit Masa Mesa in

- 12:57Speaker 3: That place is delicious. Bow Bounce, We're gonna have the

- 13:04Speaker 3: a piece of Peter Peter Malar gear around it throughout
- 13:07Speaker 3: the season. Plus we're gonna add some things to Straight
- 13:10Speaker 3: Funk agreeing to do the tease of the Week.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Of course, he I mean.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Straight Funk would bet on like what our next text
- 13:21Speaker 3: is gonna say on the Dancing Rabbit golf text line,
- 13:24Speaker 3: or what it you know, what that person's name would be,
- 13:27Speaker 3: or what what area code? Because we get all these
- 13:29Speaker 3: different area codes. He would bet well six oh one
- 13:33Speaker 3: would be the overwhelming favor, but we get all kinds
- 13:35Speaker 3: of two two eight's and this and two five ones
- 13:39Speaker 3: and two o fives and so on. By the way,
- 13:41Speaker 3: we love you for hitting us up on the Dancing
- 13:44Speaker 3: Rabbit Golf text line. So we would love to hear
- 13:46Speaker 3: from you this morning. Eight eight five three, seven seven
- 13:50Speaker 3: six Can I can I go over this? I was
- 13:53Speaker 3: watching h Kurt Signetti because as dry as he as,
- 13:58Speaker 3: he's must watch in that weird of course.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Lanes really dry too.
- 14:03Speaker 3: I know Lane's a little more out there or you
- 14:06Speaker 3: feel like he is, but Signetti's quotes are incredible.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Can y'all?
- 14:11Speaker 3: I know I keep saying this, but have we reset
- 14:15Speaker 3: to the point where can we really believe that Indiana
- 14:21Speaker 3: won the national championship? And does it really open it up?
- 14:26Speaker 3: I mean there They were ranked in the thirties in talent,
- 14:31Speaker 3: that's where they were ranked high school.
- 14:33Speaker 1: In portal.
- 14:34Speaker 3: They were ranked in the thirties in talent. Now they
- 14:38Speaker 3: were in the top three in offensive and defensive scoring efficiency.
- 14:43Speaker 3: You know, is this guy who didn't get a shot
- 14:48Speaker 3: until sixty Everybody wants everything by the time they're twenty five.
- 14:53Speaker 3: This guy didn't get a job that he really like,
- 14:57Speaker 3: really coveted at a high light until he was sixty
- 15:01Speaker 3: two years old, sixty one, sixty two years old.
- 15:06Speaker 1: The whole story.
- 15:07Speaker 3: You know, it's Netflix, Hallmark, whatever the hell you want.
- 15:09Speaker 3: I mean, big cinema.
- 15:12Speaker 1: He coached.
- 15:15Speaker 3: At places that draw a few hundred people a game
- 15:21Speaker 3: with no budget. The Indiana Hoosiers, who are known for basketball,
- 15:26Speaker 3: are the national champs. And they embarrassed Oregon and Alabama
- 15:30Speaker 3: on the way and beat Miami in the now. And
- 15:32Speaker 3: I know Miami's been down for twenty years, and I
- 15:36Speaker 3: know Mario Cristobal the head coach at Miami, and it
- 15:42Speaker 3: had some embarrassing moments along the way, but they got
- 15:45Speaker 3: but they they've been in the portal heavy. He found
- 15:48Speaker 3: the billionaire, and then the billionaire recruited another billionaire, and
- 15:50Speaker 3: then they found some other one hundred millionaires and Miami's like, okay, fine,
- 15:54Speaker 3: we're all in. And some of them aren't even Miami alums.
- 15:57Speaker 3: They just lived down there and want to be a
- 15:59Speaker 3: part of something cool. They've got more money than God
- 16:01Speaker 3: and already bought houses and planes, and their wives aren't
- 16:04Speaker 3: really interested in them anymore, and so they're like, Oh,
- 16:06Speaker 3: I've got a new club, so I'll just I'll give
- 16:09Speaker 3: Mario all the money that he needs to possibly buy
- 16:12Speaker 3: a good team. Well he did buy a good team,
- 16:14Speaker 3: but to buy a national championship. Kurt Signetti and Indiana
- 16:19Speaker 3: Jackson Meadows were the national champs. If I would have
- 16:23Speaker 3: said that a couple of years on the a few
- 16:25Speaker 3: years ago on the show, people would have seriously we
- 16:30Speaker 3: would have had like law enforcement knocking on the door
- 16:35Speaker 3: because people would have called nine one one on me. Yeah,
- 16:39Speaker 3: like even three seasons ago, if I'd have just said
- 16:41Speaker 3: over and over for five shows in a row, Indiana's
- 16:45Speaker 3: gonna win the national championship. This place is gonna turn around,
- 16:51Speaker 3: people would have been like, what in the hell is he?
- 16:53Speaker 3: They can't even win in basketball anymore. I mean, Bobby
- 16:58Speaker 3: Knight didn't win the last few years of his career,
- 17:00Speaker 3: and then they made a bunch of batan. Now, Calvin
- 17:01Speaker 3: Sampson was a good hire, but he got caught. I
- 17:04Speaker 3: don't remember what he did. He text outside of the
- 17:07Speaker 3: time frame that you can like nine hundred and forty
- 17:09Speaker 3: two times, and so they ran him out and he
- 17:12Speaker 3: had to go to the NBA before going to Houston
- 17:14Speaker 3: and winning not And now he goes like thirty and
- 17:17Speaker 3: three every year at Houston and he's a number one
- 17:19Speaker 3: or number two seed. He just absolutely boat races the
- 17:23Speaker 3: Big Twelve. Well, I mean he's still got Kansas, Iowa
- 17:29Speaker 3: States been freaking those dudes can ball.
- 17:32Speaker 1: I don't know how they can ball.
- 17:36Speaker 3: Anyway, Kurt Signetti and it does this have the floodgates?
- 17:41Speaker 3: I think we're all skeptical, especially in the SEC. But
- 17:46Speaker 3: if Ole Miss can make the final four in Indiana
- 17:48Speaker 3: can win, it are the floodgates open? Can forty teams
- 17:53Speaker 3: if they get their act together? Because everybody has money
- 17:55Speaker 3: in the Big twelve and SEC. It's all attainable for
- 17:59Speaker 3: every every single school in the Big twelve and SEC.
- 18:04Speaker 3: Everybody has money. All those teams can do forty forty
- 18:07Speaker 3: five if they want to, if they have the willpower
- 18:10Speaker 3: and commitment quottion, all those teams can do thirty eight million,
- 18:15Speaker 3: forty two million, forty six million, for a roster. So
- 18:20Speaker 3: my question, and I'd like to ask the listeners, where
- 18:24Speaker 3: are you now that we have had Indiana win the
- 18:27Speaker 3: national championship? It sounds ridiculous, and I get that. Where
- 18:32Speaker 3: are you I'd like to hear your thoughts on Indiana
- 18:35Speaker 3: winning the national championship and what that means for college.
- 18:38Speaker 3: Do you consider it a fluke or do you consider
- 18:42Speaker 3: it this is where we are now?
- 18:45Speaker 1: Can it be a little bit of both?
- 18:49Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 18:49Speaker 3: But boy, I really I'm really hesitant to say that
- 18:53Speaker 3: it was a fluke at all when you go undefeated
- 18:55Speaker 3: and have to win that many games. And they went
- 18:58Speaker 3: through Oregon and they went through Bama, I mean, and
- 19:02Speaker 3: they went through Miami. Yeah, they didn't pull too later
- 19:05Speaker 3: James Madison, good god.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Yeah, they had a number one pick.
- 19:12Speaker 3: Yeah, And you know, Todd mcshae said, Todd mcshae was
- 19:15Speaker 3: the only person I heard last summer that was talking
- 19:18Speaker 3: like that about Fernando Mendoza. By the way, I mean,
- 19:21Speaker 3: I wasn't. I'm not gonna claim what cal Berkeley to Indiana.
- 19:26Speaker 3: It sounds like two crappy football teams to me. Joke
- 19:29Speaker 3: was on me Dancing Rabbit Golf text line six ZHO
- 19:32Speaker 3: one eight eight, five, three, seven, seven six. Hey, we're
- 19:38Speaker 3: trying to hit a number by Labor Day. We would

- 20:48Speaker 3: Well, happy summer football on the horizon. You're about to
- 20:52Speaker 3: welcome in all your amazing students back to campus. Some
- 20:56Speaker 3: of them have been here this summer taking summer school.
- 20:59Speaker 3: I've follow y'all and social media. I love the post
- 21:04Speaker 3: on what your students are doing as far as internships
- 21:07Speaker 3: around the country. I mean you dropped one that was
- 21:10Speaker 3: out in California, another one I think was in Alabama.
- 21:14Speaker 3: I love seeing that, and I know how proud you
- 21:17Speaker 3: are of your students. And I think it was like
- 21:19Speaker 3: sixty five percent of them are will do interns at
- 21:23Speaker 3: some point over the course of their career, and I
- 21:26Speaker 3: know that's got to be exciting for you and your
- 21:29Speaker 3: team to see them go get that kind of experience
- 21:32Speaker 3: while they're still here at the Bagley College of Engineering.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Absolutely. Yeah, we have such great relationships with our employers,
- 21:39Speaker 2: you know, and my partners across the country that give
- 21:41Speaker 2: these students this opportunity, and it is really, you know,
- 21:44Speaker 2: a bigger and bigger part of their education, right sure.
- 21:47Speaker 2: You know, there's only so many hours in a day
- 21:49Speaker 2: and so many credits you know that we can offer here,
- 21:51Speaker 2: and so being able to offer programs like that where
- 21:54Speaker 2: students are learning on the job in the context of
- 21:57Speaker 2: what they're going to be doing is critical and we
- 21:59Speaker 2: continue to try to grow that. We have a new
- 22:01Speaker 2: Associate Dean for Research and engagement. Adam Smith who's joined us,
- 22:05Speaker 2: and engagement is an intentional part of that, right, So
- 22:08Speaker 2: he's going to grow research, but he's also going to
- 22:10Speaker 2: grow the corporate partnerships and part of that it leads
- 22:13Speaker 2: to the internships and the co ops that our students do.
- 22:16Speaker 3: All right, speaking of learning on the job, Space Cowboys
- 22:21Speaker 3: with another championship.
- 22:23Speaker 1: All right, So doctor.
- 22:25Speaker 3: Dave Ford, what was your reaction when you heard that
- 22:30Speaker 3: the Space Cowboys won another championship.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Yep, well, bo I read the first part first, which
- 22:35Speaker 2: is that they won their division again. They're Commercial off
- 22:38Speaker 2: the shelf thirty thousand foot division, and I thought, that's fantastic,
- 22:41Speaker 2: a repeat championship. And then I read the next part,
- 22:44Speaker 2: which is they won the whole thing. So this is
- 22:47Speaker 2: the International Rocket Engineering Competition or IRAQ in Midland, Texas,
- 22:52Speaker 2: and no matter what division you're competing in, you get ranked,
- 22:55Speaker 2: you'll compared to all other teams. And our team won
- 22:58Speaker 2: the championship over all for this year, and so I
- 23:01Speaker 2: just couldn't be prouder. I mean, it's great for them.
- 23:04Speaker 2: It comes on the twentieth anniversary of the founding of
- 23:07Speaker 2: the Space Cowboys, and so this is kind of a
- 23:09Speaker 2: nice you know, kind of kind of bow to put
- 23:11Speaker 2: on that, you know, twentieth anniversary as well.
- 23:14Speaker 3: How big of a compliment is that to the Bagley
- 23:16Speaker 3: College of Engineering.
- 23:17Speaker 2: Yep. I think it really goes to the quality of
- 23:19Speaker 2: our students and our faculty. I mean, it just really
- 23:22Speaker 2: our students are the best. They're they're book smart, but
- 23:26Speaker 2: they're also hands on smart and they're able to build things.
- 23:29Speaker 2: And their faculty advisors are just awesome. So, you know,
- 23:31Speaker 2: kudos to Schreus and our support. Who is the faculty
- 23:34Speaker 2: advisor for that team, you know, of really bringing them along.
- 23:38Speaker 2: He's only in his first couple of years of advising
- 23:40Speaker 2: that team, and he's doing a wonderful job.
- 23:42Speaker 3: And look at all these companies our institutes that are
- 23:47Speaker 3: tied in and collaborate or partner with your Space Space
- 23:52Speaker 3: Cowboys team in the Baggley College of Engineering. That's an
- 23:55Speaker 3: impressive lineup.
- 23:56Speaker 2: It is. I mean, we're so grateful for our research
- 23:59Speaker 2: centers are co located here in Starkville on our research campus.
- 24:03Speaker 2: So in particular, our Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems or CALVES,
- 24:07Speaker 2: provides a lot of equipment and a lot of support,
- 24:09Speaker 2: and then specifically for Space Cowboys, the Advanced Composites Institute,
- 24:13Speaker 2: which is you know here supporting research mission but also
- 24:16Speaker 2: supporting student missions like this, and then our great industrial partners.
- 24:21Speaker 2: The team just added Blue Origin last year as an
- 24:23Speaker 2: industrial sponsor, Aurora Flight Sciences, which is local and tied
- 24:27Speaker 2: to Boeing, Northrop Grumman and Mississippi Space Print Consortium and
- 24:33Speaker 2: all sorts of local partners as well.
- 24:35Speaker 3: That's a world class group right there.
- 24:37Speaker 2: It is, it is they're really getting, you know, and
- 24:39Speaker 2: again they're working with those engineers. They're getting that experience
- 24:42Speaker 2: and it's paying off for sure.
- 24:44Speaker 3: Bagleyd dot ms State dot edu. We're visiting with Dean
- 24:49Speaker 3: Dave Ford and his crew twenty twenty six International Rocket
- 24:54Speaker 3: Engineering Competition. First overall, the Space Cowboys do it again
- 25:00Speaker 3: in all Right show, Doctor Ford talk about this. Got
- 25:05Speaker 3: everybody fired up in the spring when you all released
- 25:09Speaker 3: this and y'all posted this on social media. Talk about
- 25:13Speaker 3: Matt Ramsey Okay, graduate of Mississippi State University and mission
- 25:18Speaker 3: manager of Artemis two.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Yep. So Matt is is a wonderful example of just
- 25:24Speaker 2: really you know, our students going world class after they graduate.
- 25:27Speaker 2: Right So, a mission manager for NASA for a program
- 25:30Speaker 2: like Artemis two is just an incredible accomplishment that we're
- 25:33Speaker 2: really proud of him for. So he's a two time
- 25:36Speaker 2: graduate of our Aerospace Engineering department bachelors and Masters, and
- 25:41Speaker 2: he was also a baseball pitcher here for the bull Dogs.
- 25:44Speaker 2: So he's got you know, leadership experience and you know,
- 25:48Speaker 2: knows how to kind of motivate people and work with
- 25:50Speaker 2: people as well as being technically excellent. So he was
- 25:53Speaker 2: back on campus in spring and talking with our faculty,
- 25:58Speaker 2: talking with our students, telling what it's like to be
- 26:00Speaker 2: you know, on the hot seat. You know that you know,
- 26:03Speaker 2: an incredibly important, you know, world recognized mission like Artemis two,
- 26:08Speaker 2: and he's continuing, you know, to the next phases of
- 26:11Speaker 2: that program as well. So we're going to have him
- 26:14Speaker 2: back often, you know, to be talking with our students
- 26:16Speaker 2: and our faculty and sharing his wisdom.
- 26:19Speaker 3: Doctor ford Hall. Important is that for successful alums to
- 26:23Speaker 3: come back and visit and engage with your students and
- 26:28Speaker 3: your faculty.
- 26:28Speaker 2: It's critical. It's all part of that learning process, right.
- 26:31Speaker 2: So we you know, we talked about internships and co
- 26:33Speaker 2: ops and they're going to learn on the job. But
- 26:36Speaker 2: you know, you only have time for a handful of
- 26:38Speaker 2: those you know during your your school career as well,
- 26:40Speaker 2: so being able to interact with people who come back,
- 26:43Speaker 2: you know, and share what they're doing in smaller bits, right,
- 26:47Speaker 2: rather than committing for a whole semester or you know,
- 26:49Speaker 2: the summer, to be able to learn from their wisdom
- 26:52Speaker 2: and their experiences and kind of smaller bits coming back
- 26:55Speaker 2: to the classroom. So I put a call out there.
- 26:57Speaker 2: You know, we we can all be Artemis to mission man.
- 27:00Speaker 2: And I'm not you know so so, but you know,
- 27:04Speaker 2: everybody has has really a story to tell and I
- 27:06Speaker 2: think something to contribute. And so I put a call
- 27:09Speaker 2: out there to folks who are interested in coming back
- 27:11Speaker 2: and sharing their wisdom, you know, with our students too.
- 27:13Speaker 3: And if somebody's listening, we want them to go to Bagley,
- 27:16Speaker 3: dot m S State, dot ADU. If we have an
- 27:18Speaker 3: alum on.
- 27:19Speaker 1: The West coast, east coast.
- 27:20Speaker 3: Wherever they are and they have had success and now
- 27:25Speaker 3: they're they're like, oh, I'd like to give back, yep,
- 27:28Speaker 3: then the floor is theirs.
- 27:31Speaker 2: Exactly, like yep. A lot of ways to give back.
- 27:34Speaker 2: People tend to think about money or you know, a
- 27:36Speaker 2: check or whatever of course that's great too. But but
- 27:39Speaker 2: but you know, just sharing your time with our students
- 27:41Speaker 2: coming back, you know, and you don't even have to
- 27:42Speaker 2: come back these days, right, it's remote. You know. You
- 27:44Speaker 2: can do zoom, you can do all these sorts of things,
- 27:46Speaker 2: and you can do a session with one of our
- 27:48Speaker 2: student chapters or with one of our competition teams. Be
- 27:52Speaker 2: highly valued.
- 27:54Speaker 3: Matt Ramsey undergrad and grad Bagley College of Engineering, also
- 28:00Speaker 3: played baseball UH mission manager of Artemis two unbelievable and
- 28:06Speaker 3: he was back on campus this past spring. We're visiting
- 28:08Speaker 3: with Dean Dave Ford, Mississippi State University Dean Bagley College
- 28:14Speaker 3: of Engineering. Now is the time to go ahead and
- 28:18Speaker 3: schedule a tour of the Bagley College of Engineering. Go
- 28:21Speaker 3: to Bagley dot msstate dot edu. That's Bagley dot msstate
- 28:27Speaker 3: dot edu. We'll be dropping some dates MSU preview days
- 28:32Speaker 3: set for October twelfth, November ninth, and November twenty third. Again,
- 28:37Speaker 3: this is a world class College of Engineering, Bagley dot
- 28:42Speaker 3: MS State dot edu. All right, doctor Ford astronaut scholars,
- 28:48Speaker 3: this is super cool. Tell our listeners about this.
- 28:52Speaker 2: Yep. This is a program that's right up there with
- 28:54Speaker 2: some of the others they might have heard about, like
- 28:56Speaker 2: Goldwater Scholars and Udall Scholars and National Science Foundation and
- 29:00Speaker 2: Graduate Research Fellowship. So this is a prestigious organization, the
- 29:03Speaker 2: Astronaut Scholars Foundation. Basically it's former US astronauts who've gotten
- 29:08Speaker 2: together and raised funds for scholarships for outstanding students. So
- 29:12Speaker 2: you don't have to be an aerospace engineering student or
- 29:15Speaker 2: even working in that field in order to be named this.
- 29:18Speaker 2: So there's just this. So it's a it's kind of
- 29:21Speaker 2: an interesting tie in, right, we're kind of on the
- 29:23Speaker 2: space theme. So we had two students astronaut scholars last spring,
- 29:27Speaker 2: Sloane Berry and Alex White. You know, Sloan is in aerospace,
- 29:32Speaker 2: but Alex is in biomedical engineering and so you know
- 29:36Speaker 2: kind of you know, complementary fields there, but they've got
- 29:39Speaker 2: They were two of seventy nine astronaut scholars that were
- 29:42Speaker 2: chosen nationwide that year, so two out of eighty basically
- 29:46Speaker 2: across the country.
- 29:47Speaker 3: This is prestigious. I mean, it is seventy nine. We
- 29:52Speaker 3: get to that. That's a prestigious accomplishment.
- 29:55Speaker 2: Yep, absolutely, yeah, and actually we have but we that's
- 29:58Speaker 2: another thing that's great about Bagley is We've got a
- 30:00Speaker 2: great partnership with the Honors College here. In factult I
- 30:03Speaker 2: would say a large fraction of the Honors College. It's
- 30:06Speaker 2: comprised of engineering students, and we have now an Office
- 30:10Speaker 2: of Prestigious External Scholarships that basically works with our students
- 30:14Speaker 2: and our faculty to position them to have the best
- 30:17Speaker 2: possible applications for these things. So not only are we
- 30:20Speaker 2: you know, you know, not only are our students great
- 30:22Speaker 2: and our faculty providing great opportunities, but you know, we
- 30:26Speaker 2: are plugged into how to help our students succeed in
- 30:28Speaker 2: this environment too.
- 30:29Speaker 1: All right, that's exciting.
- 30:31Speaker 3: Bagley dot M S State dot ed U, Bagley dot
- 30:36Speaker 3: M S State dot Edu.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Oh, this is cool.
- 30:39Speaker 3: I love anything with CAVS Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems.
- 30:42Speaker 3: This is fascinating to me. All right, EcoCar, again, your students,
- 30:48Speaker 3: your faculty have had a tremendous amount of success in competitions,
- 30:52Speaker 3: which means a lot to you and it should. All right,
- 30:55Speaker 3: walk me through what just happened and what's about to
- 30:58Speaker 3: happen in the future with the new vehicle.
- 31:02Speaker 2: YEP, this is an exciting time. Bo. So the the
- 31:06Speaker 2: four year competition, these competitions come in four year blocks. Basically,
- 31:10Speaker 2: it's kind of a year at a time in four
- 31:12Speaker 2: year batches with different vehicles that are provided by GM.
- 31:16Speaker 2: So the students work on actual real road vehicles doing
- 31:20Speaker 2: you know, working with the engineers at GM, working with
- 31:23Speaker 2: our staff and our faculty at CALVES to basically do
- 31:26Speaker 2: all sorts of modifications to them according to the rules
- 31:28Speaker 2: of the competition. So the students just finished up on
- 31:32Speaker 2: the Cadillac Lyric EV. That competition closed back in May.
- 31:36Speaker 2: Our team finished seventh overall and they had first place
- 31:40Speaker 2: finishes in eleven different deliverables there as well. And the
- 31:43Speaker 2: one I'm particularly proud of is they won an Outstanding
- 31:46Speaker 2: Collaboration award from the organizers, and that was for them
- 31:49Speaker 2: being generous with their time with their practice sessions that
- 31:52Speaker 2: we got at Columbus Air Force Base. And again kudos
- 31:55Speaker 2: to the Air Force for you know, letting us use
- 31:57Speaker 2: their runways on a couple of off days in order
- 32:00Speaker 2: to test our vehicle, which we really appreciate. So and
- 32:03Speaker 2: we invited teams from the region you have to come
- 32:05Speaker 2: down and join us there and we shared that and
- 32:07Speaker 2: we also shared our Dino at CAVS with these teams
- 32:10Speaker 2: as well, so that that could help them tune their vehicles,
- 32:12Speaker 2: because not every facility at these different universities has access
- 32:16Speaker 2: to that. So I think, you know, not only are
- 32:18Speaker 2: we not only can we win first place, but we
- 32:21Speaker 2: can win with class yeah, and we can win with
- 32:24Speaker 2: some some you know, some sportsmanship, which I really think
- 32:27Speaker 2: is important you know as well.
- 32:29Speaker 3: So and then the the new car so to speak,
- 32:34Speaker 3: will be a Chevy Blazer EV yes pursuit vehicle.
- 32:38Speaker 2: Yep, we are already on board to start. Were accepted
- 32:41Speaker 2: for the next four year competition. So we're committed for
- 32:44Speaker 2: the next four years. And we're really excited because this
- 32:47Speaker 2: is a Chevy Blazer EV police pursuit vehicles, almost five
- 32:52Speaker 2: hundred horsepower, one hundred and thirty miles per hour top speed,
- 32:55Speaker 2: and incredible AMOUNTORQ right, so it's a EV. So it's
- 32:58Speaker 2: off the line really quick. This will be a fun
- 33:01Speaker 2: four years. So now is a good time to sign
- 33:04Speaker 2: up and then get on board and join the team.
- 33:07Speaker 3: Bagley College of Engineering students and faculty winning again in
- 33:12Speaker 3: the EcoCar EV Challenge. So your students competing all over
- 33:17Speaker 3: the country and winning, sometimes winning at all or in
- 33:21Speaker 3: eleven different deliverables Bagley dot MS State dot edu. Okay,
- 33:27Speaker 3: so this is exciting right here, doctor Ford. You've got
- 33:31Speaker 3: applications are now open for fall of twenty twenty seven
- 33:37Speaker 3: to this world class College of Engineering at Mississippi State. Now,
- 33:43Speaker 3: you know, y'all go after the best and the brightest,
- 33:46Speaker 3: and so I know this is exciting for you and
- 33:49Speaker 3: your team to host high school students and parents. So
- 33:53Speaker 3: because you've got a long list of things that you
- 33:56Speaker 3: can show, results matter here at Bagley College of Engineering.
- 34:00Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, yep. And you can call, call and set
- 34:03Speaker 2: up or email and set up an appointment anytime. So
- 34:06Speaker 2: Marley Robinson is basically in charge of the recruitment for
- 34:10Speaker 2: the Bagley College of Engineering. She's assisted by a set
- 34:13Speaker 2: of Bagley Ambassadors, about two dozen students representing all different
- 34:17Speaker 2: majors you know, from across the college, several different you
- 34:20Speaker 2: know places in their you know, in their academic career,
- 34:23Speaker 2: from freshmen all the way up to seniors. And we
- 34:27Speaker 2: are standing by ready to host a visit for you.
- 34:30Speaker 2: So just email visit Engineering at Bagley dot m S
- 34:35Speaker 2: State dot edu. So that's visit Engineering at Bagley dot
- 34:39Speaker 2: m S State dot edu. And you can set up
- 34:41Speaker 2: an appointment where you can come and visit. Then we
- 34:44Speaker 2: also have you know, University Days where they're you know,
- 34:47Speaker 2: doing recruiting kind of more broadly across the university that
- 34:49Speaker 2: you can coordinate with those as well. And you mentioned
- 34:52Speaker 2: our Preview Days coming up in October and November and
- 34:55Speaker 2: the Engineering Discovery Day coming out November tenth as well.
- 34:59Speaker 2: So registration for MSU Preview Days is going to open
- 35:02Speaker 2: later this month, and registration is already open now for
- 35:06Speaker 2: Engineering Discovery Day.
- 35:08Speaker 3: Visit Engineering at Bagley dot ms state dot edu. Applications
- 35:14Speaker 3: are now open for fall of twenty twenty seven. Come
- 35:18Speaker 3: on in campus visits. You get to see everything that's
- 35:21Speaker 3: happening here at the Baggley College of Engineering.
- 35:25Speaker 1: All right, Oh this is cool.
- 35:27Speaker 3: All right, I like this Mississippi Golf Coast Engineering on
- 35:30Speaker 3: the Mississippi Golf Coach. Some people may go, well, doctor Ford,
- 35:34Speaker 3: what are you talking about? Yeah, so you have the floor.
- 35:37Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, So this is an incredible option for our
- 35:39Speaker 2: friends down on the coast, right, folks who maybe are
- 35:42Speaker 2: a little bit more geographically tied to that area, or
- 35:45Speaker 2: just you kind of want to be there. You can
- 35:47Speaker 2: get a full engineering degree from Bagley College of Engineering,
- 35:50Speaker 2: the same ones we give out from main campus by
- 35:53Speaker 2: participating on the coast. So our campus is co located
- 35:57Speaker 2: on the campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast commun Unity
- 36:00Speaker 2: College so MGCCC in Goshet. As somebody who came here
- 36:05Speaker 2: from the north, I had to learn how to pronounce Gastet,
- 36:08Speaker 2: so I think I'm there. But at any point in time,
- 36:11Speaker 2: we've got about one hundred students down there studying one
- 36:15Speaker 2: of three majors. So we don't offer every single major,
- 36:18Speaker 2: you know, unfortunately down there. But electrical engineering, industrial engineering,
- 36:22Speaker 2: and mechanical engineering are all offered down there. They're absolutely
- 36:25Speaker 2: identical degrees to what we offer on main campus, and
- 36:29Speaker 2: because of our accreditation process, we have to ensure that
- 36:31Speaker 2: you really do get the same experience in terms of
- 36:34Speaker 2: sure the theory and the hands on piece down there
- 36:37Speaker 2: as you get, you know up here on main campus.
- 36:40Speaker 3: That's an asset. So again, electrical, industrial, and mechanical are
- 36:46Speaker 3: offered on the Mississippi Gulf Coast at Mississippi Golf Coast
- 36:50Speaker 3: Community College campus in Gschet. Absolutely okay, again, you can
- 36:54Speaker 3: find so much information Bagley dot ms State dot edu.
- 36:59Speaker 3: Let me say this again. Applications are now open for
- 37:03Speaker 3: fall at twenty twenty seven. Campus visits have started and
- 37:07Speaker 3: they will continue to go through the last half of
- 37:09Speaker 3: the summer and then the fall will be crazy September
- 37:13Speaker 3: in a good way. And you want to see parents
- 37:15Speaker 3: and students and welcome them because you have so much
- 37:18Speaker 3: to show and offer. You're like, come on in.
- 37:21Speaker 2: Absolutely yeah, and we'll get you hooked up with the
- 37:23Speaker 2: department that you're interested in. Talk with the department head,
- 37:26Speaker 2: talk with the faculty, see the facilities. Yeah. So whether again,
- 37:29Speaker 2: whether you know what you really want to do and
- 37:31Speaker 2: you want to check it out, or whether you want
- 37:33Speaker 2: to explore you know, a couple of different things. We
- 37:35Speaker 2: can come up with a tour plan right that basically
- 37:39Speaker 2: sitch points.
- 37:40Speaker 3: So you may think you want to go on biomedical engineering,
- 37:43Speaker 3: which is great, but you may come up here and go, oh,
- 37:45Speaker 3: aerospace engineering is my jam Yep, absolutely yep, all right,
- 37:50Speaker 3: Dean Dave Ford Bagley College of Engineering, Mississippi State University. Again,
- 37:56Speaker 3: world class students, world class research, and world class faculty.
- 38:01Speaker 3: Go ahead and get online today Bagley dot ms state
- 38:04Speaker 3: dot edu and schedule your campus visit. All right, dum
- 38:10Speaker 3: oh current numbers. This is exciting. So what did Kristen
- 38:16Speaker 3: tell me? Over twenty eight thousand living alums? Right, that's correct, Yeah, unbelievable.
- 38:22Speaker 3: All right, So this this new freshman class for I mean,
- 38:26Speaker 3: they're all excited that, you know, they're chomping at the
- 38:28Speaker 3: bit right there at home right now. They can't wait
- 38:32Speaker 3: to move in the dorms and start experiencing, you know,
- 38:36Speaker 3: campus life. Both my kids, my daughter just graduated here
- 38:39Speaker 3: in May, had an unbelievable experience. My son will be
- 38:41Speaker 3: a senior. I can remember the excitement and anticipation going
- 38:46Speaker 3: into August. So you're about to welcome in a new
- 38:50Speaker 3: class at the Bagley College of Engineering. Talk about that
- 38:53Speaker 3: excitement and share the numbers with us.
- 38:55Speaker 2: Yep, absolutely, you know, this is one of the great
- 38:57Speaker 2: parts about this job, is it, you know, the the
- 39:00Speaker 2: cycle that you have in an academic year, right, So
- 39:02Speaker 2: it's you know, you kind of enjoy that that kind
- 39:05Speaker 2: of freedom and a little bit of you know, kind
- 39:08Speaker 2: of calmness in the summer. But then just about when
- 39:11Speaker 2: you get bored to that, you're like, it's time for
- 39:13Speaker 2: them to come back. So we're super excited about them
- 39:16Speaker 2: coming back, and the numbers are going to be bigger
- 39:19Speaker 2: than ever, we think, right, So official numbers don't get
- 39:21Speaker 2: published until November, when we should you know, kind of
- 39:24Speaker 2: account for everybody who's sort of maybe transferred in laid
- 39:26Speaker 2: or left or you know, whatever it might be. But
- 39:29Speaker 2: you know, projecting forward, it looks like we're going to
- 39:31Speaker 2: have about somewhere between ten and fifteen percent more freshmen
- 39:35Speaker 2: as compared to last year's class, and again kind of
- 39:38Speaker 2: accounting for all the other years as well, that's probably
- 39:41Speaker 2: going to push us up about two to three percent.
- 39:43Speaker 2: And the undergraduate enrollment over last year, it's going to
- 39:45Speaker 2: represent a new high. It should be somewhere around forty
- 39:49Speaker 2: four hundred I think graduate students. Yeah, so with our
- 39:52Speaker 2: graduate students being over six hundred, that's going to you know,
- 39:55Speaker 2: put us well over five thousand, you know, total students.
- 39:59Speaker 2: I think. Yeah, we're the biggest college by numbers of enrollment.
- 40:03Speaker 2: In fact, we even now have the biggest program by enrollment.
- 40:06Speaker 2: So mechanical engineering is the number one major by enrollment.
- 40:11Speaker 2: We passed business and we passed kinesiology, which are the
- 40:15Speaker 2: other traditional members of the top three. So we're really
- 40:19Speaker 2: excited about that. I mean, ensuring is really drawing here,
- 40:23Speaker 2: and our mechanical engineering department has been doing a wonderful
- 40:26Speaker 2: job on some things, including ID lab, which we'll talk
- 40:29Speaker 2: about at a.
- 40:29Speaker 3: Futures You all gave me those notes and we've been
- 40:32Speaker 3: talking about that on the show. That's impressive.
- 40:35Speaker 2: We're going to expand that in a big way across
- 40:37Speaker 2: the college in the next six months to a year.
- 40:40Speaker 2: So I think that's you know, maybe maybe six months
- 40:42Speaker 2: or a year from now when we're talking, we'll have
- 40:44Speaker 2: some things to talk about there as well. So that's cool.
- 40:48Speaker 3: Dean Dave Ford and we are here at the Bagley
- 40:53Speaker 3: College of Engineering, Mississippi State University. Now is the time
- 40:57Speaker 3: to go ahead and schedule a campus is it visit
- 41:01Speaker 3: Engineering at Bagley dot m S State dot edu now
- 41:06Speaker 3: real quick. MSU preview days are set for October twelfth,
- 41:10Speaker 3: November ninth, and November twenty third. Applications are now open
- 41:15Speaker 3: for fall of twenty twenty seven. And again that's Bagley
- 41:19Speaker 3: dot M S State dot e d U. Okay, I
- 41:23Speaker 3: love this part, especially as a parent. I mean, wow,
- 41:27Speaker 3: this gets you up and makes you dance around the room.
- 41:30Speaker 3: Student outcomes. I'm gonna I'm just going to say, ninety
- 41:34Speaker 3: four percent, and then I'm gonna let you have the
- 41:36Speaker 3: floor again.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Yep, thanks Bo. So, yeah, we're this is for the
- 41:40Speaker 2: twenty twenty four twenty five cohort. So we graduated about
- 41:43Speaker 2: almost nine hundred students in that time undergrads with a
- 41:47Speaker 2: bachelor's degree, and you know, following the rules of the
- 41:52Speaker 2: organization that we work with to track employment, we have
- 41:55Speaker 2: to wait until six months out, you know, to get
- 41:58Speaker 2: sort of firm numbers on that. So we're looking that
- 42:00Speaker 2: the cohort that graduated last year, ninety four percent were employed,
- 42:04Speaker 2: you know, in a job in their field, or had
- 42:06Speaker 2: gone on to graduate school, professional school, or military service,
- 42:10Speaker 2: you know, within six months of graduation. So the market
- 42:14Speaker 2: is still there for engineers. They love our engineers. We
- 42:18Speaker 2: had two hundred and ninety five unique organizations higher from
- 42:23Speaker 2: that cohort, so, you know, nine hundred students going out
- 42:25Speaker 2: there almost three hundred organizations involved in hiring them. Our
- 42:29Speaker 2: average salary was seventy six thousand and the high was
- 42:33Speaker 2: one hundred and ten thousand, which which was really good. Yeah,
- 42:36Speaker 2: it was a really good number. And about a quarter
- 42:41Speaker 2: of the employers we saw were offering signing bonuses you know,
- 42:44Speaker 2: somewhere a couple thousand all the way up to ten
- 42:46Speaker 2: thousand dollars to sign with the company. So so again
- 42:50Speaker 2: that those numbers are are a little bit older, but
- 42:53Speaker 2: they have to be because we have to track, you know,
- 42:55Speaker 2: six months out. But the feedback we're getting now, I mean,
- 42:58Speaker 2: I think the twenty six cohort is going to be another,
- 43:02Speaker 2: you know, another big one, and so we're excited about that.
- 43:05Speaker 2: And the fact is, you know, four or five years
- 43:08Speaker 2: down the road when some of your listeners are would
- 43:10Speaker 2: be graduating, right, you just you never know. But the
- 43:12Speaker 2: truth is, we just do well at all times, right,
- 43:15Speaker 2: I mean Badley it's a it's a it's a combination
- 43:18Speaker 2: of theory and hands on practice. And you of course
- 43:21Speaker 2: we've told these stories you know earlier here in the show.
- 43:24Speaker 3: Yeah, but it's fast star, it's prestigious, yep. And basically
- 43:27Speaker 3: what you're saying, and you've got the numbers to back
- 43:30Speaker 3: it up, is the demand is there for Bagley College
- 43:34Speaker 3: of Engineering.
- 43:35Speaker 2: Graduates exactly exactly, yep.
- 43:37Speaker 3: And I think that's why you and your team get
- 43:39Speaker 3: up exactly exactly.
- 43:40Speaker 2: That's what we do. That's what we do, right, and
- 43:42Speaker 2: it gets reflected in this
- 43:48Speaker 1: Hey this is BO I'm calling all
