[upbeat rock music] Welcome to the fabulous one-year anniversary edition of the Weekly Dose of Fat with your hosts, Sven and Gomez.
• 0:32
Bienvenidos, amigos. Sitting down the way from me is Sven Hammer, here for our one-year anniversary show. Pretty exciting time. You know, that sure flies [laughs] When we're having fun.
• 0:48
[laughs] That exciting time, probably 'cause we're joined in the studio today by Mr. JK Livin'. Yeah, we're reenacting Wayne's World, but here in Chris Daisy's basement studio.
• 0:59
So it's my pleasure at this very moment to introduce to you all out there in radio land, Crispy Chris Sha-daisy. Yeah, baby. Thanks for the use of your basement studio, man- You are very, very welcome here...
• 1:14
for this one-year anniversary super show. Nice. [upbeat rock music] Thanks to Surly for sponsoring the show for the last year.
• 1:32
Surly makes bikes and parts that don't suck. Learn more at surlybikes.com. So Mr. JK Livin', why don't you tell us how we're gonna celebrate the show's first birthday? Celebrations on this week's show.
• 1:48
Our very, very special guest this week is the show. The show. The show. We delve into Beards and Beer. We talk about the Big Fish Beach Ride. We share links from all over the interwebs, and the aforementioned Mr.
• 2:04
Chris Daisy [upbeat rock music] Will be interjecting music throughout the program. Live music right here on the show. And now, magically we're trans- The first-... formed to-...
• 2:20
time in one year, the first live music was on- Uh-huh... the anniversary show. We've been talking about it. We can look back on this as the day it happened. We tried to lure him up to our studio- [laughs]...
• 2:30
but instead we came- Never left the lair... we came and rode bikes and drank beer and hung out and eaten cookies and making radio. [laughs] Some damn good cookies too.
• 2:43
So we've pulled the beer out of the ride cooler, or is... This might actually be out of Chris' personal, uh, collection here, but it's Revolution Brewing out of Chicago, and it's their Anti-Hero IPA.
• 2:59
[can opens] I like the label. It looks very revolutionary. This is a good... The Julio, this is julio.com approved. [can opens] Julio.com. Julio kind of turned us on weed.
• 3:09
One of the, one of the beers he tried to kill us with, with 10% alcohol was from Revolution. [laughs] Uh, but this one, uh, this one- Anti-Hero IPA And it rates a 92 on Beer Advocate, with 6.5 ABV
• 3:28
and 70 of those bitter, international bitters. It must be an Illinois thing, 'cause all these... Here everybody's pouring it in a glass. [laughs] Yeah, they all put their- [laughs] Julio would be proud... the aroma.
• 3:40
But it's, it's- Oh, it pours a nice, nice color. Ooh. Kind of like motor oil looking. And it is true. Even if you're n- even if you're not in Illinois, you should pour your IPA into a glass.
• 3:51
If you're sitting at a bar in Chris Daisy's basement. Yes. So the Anti-Hero IPA is an American hop assault for all the ambivalent warriors who get the girl in the end, or so says their website.
• 4:05
[laughs] It also- For girls that like to get it in the end. Right? [laughs] It also goes- Yes...
• 4:10
on to say it's an iconic ale that features a blend of four hop varieties which create a crisp bitterness and imparts massive floral and citrus aromas. What do you think, me hearties?
• 4:21
Well, I think that you guys have changed me, 'cause I started out this show l- being like a 30 IBU amber ale, scotch ale. Maybe I'd get a little crazy every once in a while and have a pale ale.
• 4:35
But now India pale ales are like, "Yeah, I like these." [laughs] Well, it's, it's like any beers. Even when you're 12, you know, you start drinking it and it's not that great, and then pretty soon you like that a lot.
• 4:48
[laughs] It's the one kind of beer that starts to taste decent when it gets warm, which not a lot can hold up to that. True that, yeah. I'm gonna- 'Cause it was designed to be warm I think originally, wasn't it?
• 5:00
It's from India. Isn't it warm there? [laughs] Yeah. [laughs] I think that was the story though, like the English, uh- I know we should, we should call julio.com. He would have a full story on this.
• 5:10
[laughs] But no, let's not. JK, thoughts? I'm not getting any apricot because it was pairing very well with the, uh, the apple- Oh... that's gonna go with the cookies. Yeah. I'm gonna get one of those apple cookie...
• 5:22
A Dutch, Dutch apple from Matt's. That's right here in Zion. Yeah, originally a Zion recipe. Yes. A recipe, a recipe, a Zion's recipe. And now for the beard segment of the Beards and Beer segment.
• 5:37
I'm gonna just say that, JK, I can't believe you're still rocking the full-on carnival professional- [laughs]... operator Fu Manchu, my brother. It, you, you must be scaring a lot of kids. He's a carnist.
• 5:52
Or scoring with a lot of kids. [laughs] Get out of the worm can. I didn't say it, I didn't say that out loud today. [laughs] Oops. It's just a radio program. [laughs] No- nobody, nobody's listening anyway.
• 6:02
Nobody's listening anyway. And Sven, Sven's got full on- Except for, except for a bunch of pissed off carnies now that are- [laughs] I am 10th generation carnie. And Sven's got the pro wrestler thing, man.
• 6:14
He's all, he's trimmed on the sides, but he's left almost full length- Loosen the belts or- It's hard to know what to keep [laughs] and what to get rid of, so I just get rid of little bits at a time. Yeah.
• 6:25
We've got a, we've got a new beard today on the show. Yeah, Dave. Dave's got his beard over there. Hey. How long you been rocking a beard for, Dave? Uh, about two years. Right on. Yeah. Well, it looks good.
• 6:35
And it looks like- I saw it going by so fast today. [laughs] Yeah, dude. That's the fastest I've ever seen anybody ride the bike on the beach. [laughs] Just ripped by us, like going 25,000 miles an hour.
• 6:48
It sounded like a motorcycle. It's all in the ankles. I think it's... [laughs] I heard, "I love this tailwind" [laughs] Yeah, we'll talk a little bit more about the ride later in the show. Right on.
• 7:05
This week's Beard and Beer segment was sponsored by Uncle Dick's Speed Slip. Thanks, Richard. You can learn more about Dick's products- [laughs] [laughs]... at uncledicksbikeshop.com.
• 7:17
[laughs] Hey, his name really is Richard. [laughs] Hey, everybody, we'll be back with a look at a whole year of radio shows. Our radio shows, not somebody else's. [laughs] Really? Ours?
• 7:33
Wouldn't other ones be a little more interesting? Uh, probably. [upbeat music] You're tuned to Fat Bike Radio.
• 7:47
This is Ned Overend, and I listen to the weekly dose of fat on Fat Bike Radio.
• 7:53
[upbeat music] We're back with the crew, and we're gonna look back at the last year's tale of internet spoofery, asshattery, and tomfoolery, and something other-y. Other- other -ery's.
• 8:11
Yeah. I don't know, man. If you want to have, uh... If you don't... If you have a lot of spare time on your hands, you might wanna go, uh, listen in to... Or if you want a good laugh, listen in to the first three shows.
• 8:23
Maybe show three. Maybe show number one and number two should actually be lost. [laughs] No, you know what, you know what I think about those shows? Deleted.
• 8:30
Is they show just how crappy you can start out, and then you can finally put out something decent with a little bit of practice and a little bit of, little bit of effort.
• 8:37
So- We've, we- For, for all you budding, uh, radio personalities out there, don't let those first three shows make you quit. Yeah. We...
• 8:47
I, I would think that if you start out with a show, you should a- actually expect the first show to be a little janky. Well, one thing that, uh, when we started the show, we committed to doing it every week, which I...
• 8:58
was a super ambitious commitment, because it takes a lot of effort to put it out every week, and I'm proud that we've been able to do it 52 straight weeks in some fashion or another. Yeah.
• 9:10
And I think the show, there's a lot of good ones out there, you know. Uh, show number four, we got a, our first actual color announcer in Mr. Colin Ford.
• 9:19
And he was, uh, sometimes quite colorful, and coming off of a, a full night of drinking and carousing and- [laughs] Is that, is that what brought you to think about having beer on the show too?- Maybe...
• 9:30
'cause it would kind of help Colin's hangover a little bit? [laughs] Maybe. I don't know, but it did actually happen on show four. I was driving to the show, 8:30 in the morning. I'm like- [laughs]...
• 9:40
"You know- Yeah, that's right. We used to do this in the morning... we should really do a beer segment. And I'm just gonna swing in here and grab some beer and let's do it."
• 9:50
So- I don't, I don't remember when we made the switch from recording in the morning to recording at night, but beer had something to do with that because those days got kinda wasted after the, the 9:00 AM beer start.
• 10:00
[laughs] Oh, man. Yeah, it was like, there was a mandatory nap every Thursday. [laughs] But, uh, after show number four, we started to invite guests and have contests.
• 10:12
So we started out, our first show guest, or in show number five, our first guest was Adam Blake, our buddy Adam Blake from Boo Bicycles. And then we moved on to other bicycle, uh, people.
• 10:25
Reeb Cycles, that was our first contest. We made all those guys famous by having them on our show. [laughs] Well, yeah, back then I think we had five listeners. [laughs] But they were an emphatic five. Indeed.
• 10:36
They were, they were hardcore fat bikers. And we s- we tried to have contests every week to get people to listen, and we gave away a lot of prizes. And, uh, we had Paul Ellis from Hed come on the show.
• 10:50
And then show number eight, we hit- I think that's when we doubled our audience. [laughs] Radio gold, Mr. Eric Sovereign from Surly Bicycles was on the show. Nomenclature. And, uh, he is just a,
• 11:05
he's just a good interview no matter what. Video, audio- It's like he did a r-... basement... he did a r- [laughs]... any of these interview spots. [laughs] Exactly. He did a radio promo, just
• 11:17
improvised the thing and it's, it's money. And we've had, from the very beginning, uh, just, uh, world champions and world record-holding fat bike racers on the show. Show number nine, we had Kevin Breitenbach.
• 11:29
Yeah, buddy. And not just big, small, and everywhere in between, uh, bike company owners, like Wyatt Hrdalka from- Hrd- Hrdka... Wyatt Bikes. Hrdka. Yeah, Hrdka. Sorry.
• 11:42
Yeah, he's, uh, he's, uh, on the other side of the state over there in La Crosse- Yep, and-... making, making some bikes.
• 11:48
And, uh, he's one of the, he's one of the several companies that started kind of in the fixie single speed space that has discovered fat bikes as another way just to keep on your bike.
• 11:57
And now you look all over and a lot of the, a lot of the urban companies have a fat bike because guys in the company actually ride them in the winter, so we might as well make our own. Absolutely. And we also had
• 12:10
Bill Fleming from 907 on the show. Do you remember having Skirts in the Dirt on the show? Like, that was show number 13, I believe. [laughs] I remember, I remember their radio promo.
• 12:20
And that- that's actually kind of a cool-... cool event that is going on. It's the second year. We should, we should find a way to get more ladies on Fat Bikes.
• 12:29
You know, actually, we have a contest going on right now, even during this show. Right, about radio promos. You should do a radio promo.
• 12:37
Call into 818-918-B-I-K-E and leave your radio promo, and you too could be a winner on Fat Bike Radio. David Gabrise from 45 North was on the show. He's always a good guest. He thinks- Dave's a cool cat...
• 12:53
he thinks about what they're doing a lot, that guy. [laughs] Dave's a smart guy. We had a Dog Days of Summer photo, video, word contest. We had, uh, Greg Mattis.
• 13:06
That's when I learned how to correctly pronounce his name- Yeah, he was gonna come at you-... on the show... with a sickle, I think. [laughs] Greg's a cool cat. Yeah, buddy. And we had the Cycle Monkey people.
• 13:16
We talked about belt drives and Rohloffs and, and monkeys- Oh, and that, and that-... flying monkeys...
• 13:22
and that was when that, I think, the Ventana, uh, you know, they were doing the collaboration with Ventana to make the Rohloff- Oh, right on... 170 bike. Yeah. That's how long ago that was already.
• 13:31
And then, and then, and then... There were... [laughs] And then, um- And then, hey, it was show 17. Oh, that, you kind of just- With Flavor Cycle hi... you know what? I, I'll tell you what happened on that show.
• 13:44
The Flavor Cycle guys are from Milwaukee, and we invited them in to, you know, come in and hang out, and somehow JK [laughs] was stuffed in one of their big knapsacks. And he popped out and said, "Hi, everybody."
• 13:54
Dancing for nickels. Yep, so- I knew we had- [laughs]... I knew we had something when you did my Texas Pete commercial. [laughs] Texas Pete. Texas Pete. One take. It was awesome. We good? All right.
• 14:06
Yeah, we continued the, uh, we continued the Milwaukee connection with Fixation's Nick Ginster, who, during the show, brought in some- something black that we weren't supposed to talk about.
• 14:16
[laughs] Yeah, like a black box. It was Hog Legs. Black bo- Hog Legs... bike. [laughs] Blackhawk Proto, and we actually- Oh, man... went on a ride. Today, what's your buddy's name who rides the Blackhawk?
• 14:27
The guy who ended up on his tuchus. [laughs] With a nice back play. [laughs] That's our friend, Brad. [laughs] Brad was m- a maniac, and he's- Yeah, he's a good rider... he's definitely got some, uh, some chops.
• 14:40
I almost, uh, saw him kill himself at Ray's one day, so. [laughs] Oh, man. Wow. [laughs] Brad was not there for the meeting that we had where we said, "Oh, yeah, let's just go from the bar directly back."
• 14:53
He's like, "Oh, no, single track." [laughs] And you know what? That was actually really good. Yeah. [laughs] 'Cause I was like, "Oh, this is the stuff that they don't want us to know that it's here." Yes.
• 15:03
[laughs] I recognize this. These are good Bendito trails. [laughs] We allegedly rode those trails. Allegedly. [laughs] Or did.
• 15:12
[laughs] It la- we, we, we shifted into an imaginary dim- dimension where there's secret single track. [laughs] You know, we've had a lot of- Lots of deer... uh, frame builders on the show, too. Joe Graham. Oh, yeah.
• 15:24
That was, didn't he have the hobbit houses? Yeah, the hobbit houses- [laughs]... and the chubby pony bike. Yeah, yeah. Which, uh, you know, people are always saying, "Fat cargo bike." Joe Graham makes one, man.
• 15:34
Chubby pony. Ch- the chubby pony. And then y- We had the-... your friend of mine, Ms. Amy Rowley from the, uh, Birkie- B-... talking about the Fat Bike Birkie... delightfully chipper woman.
• 15:44
Delight- she was a ball of energy at this week- at, at this year's Fat Bike Birkie. And then show number 21, it was, uh, like Fear and Loathing in, from Las- [laughs]... Las Vegas Airport.
• 15:56
Yeah, we were- My attorney, [laughs] my Samoan attorney, Laslo- [laughs] Uh, we retired... recorded in for me. Did it. And then kind of the new studio blossomed around, uh, show number 22.
• 16:07
This would've been, like, uh, oh, September of last year, September of '14, and, uh, our buddy, uh- Started, we started acquiring gear. Yeah. And, uh, s- s- Gear, gear acquisition syndrome...
• 16:20
Sven has been just putting together this kick-ass studio, and it started around September with our guest as our first repeat guest, our friend Adam Blake from Boo Bikes again. He joined us live in the studio.
• 16:31
Yeah, exactly, right there in Milwaukee. Milwaukee. We had Paul Price from, uh, Paul Components. I love those quick releases, Paul. Those are badass. [clicks tongue] And then we had Ned Overend, dude.
• 16:44
Yeah, that was a big one. We doubled our audience again on that one, for sure. [laughs] I, I think that's our most listened to show, I believe. I, I, I agree with that. 'Cause people go back and listen to...
• 16:52
What he, what he says on that show is still worth listening to. Absolutely. For sure. S- One of my heroes. 20 times. And then- And then, and then a show that wasn't worth listening to...
• 17:03
for something completely different- [laughs]... Chewy and Dirty from Drunk Cyclists. [laughs] Yeah, that's the 50-second dead air episode. You remember that one? [laughs] Really?
• 17:14
[laughs] There just was a random 50 seconds of dead air. The ghost of Richard Nixon- Yeah... came and erased. [laughs] Oh, just after all that banter, we had to put some silence so you could collect your thoughts.
• 17:26
[laughs] [laughs] Chewy's been on the show a bunch of times, another great guest, Chewy. Uh, those guys have the Decorah Time Trials coming up really soon,
• 17:35
maybe next weekend or the weekend after, which is one of the most kick-ass events in the Midwest. For those of you into mountain biking and/or fat biking, uh, Decorah's the place- Indeed... you wanna be. Check it out.
• 17:48
And- I'll try and get a link in the show notes if I remember. Yeah. Otherwise, it's on a Facebook event, Decorah Time Trials. DecorahTimeTrials.com. Ben and Tyler from Surly were on the show. Oh, yeah.
• 17:59
Those guys are- That was a good episode... that was another good episode, mm-hmm. That's s- those guys are funny. That's where they s- uh, we, money doesn't even exist. [laughs] And then- Time doesn't exist...
• 18:08
I think we had our first foreigner on the show after that. Bruce. We begged him. You begged him. You begged him to come on.
• 18:15
I implored him, and then- You, you, you implied that he might wanna come be [laughs] on the show. And he was a great guest, I just- Yeah, yeah He made fun of how we talk, we made fun of how he talks. We talked fat bikes.
• 18:27
He invited us to Scotland and then we just- And we accepted and then we had to- Reneg... we had to reneg. Yeah. We'll get over there, though. We will.
• 18:35
We had Scott Chambers from the Great Lakes, uh, Fat Bike Race Series, and he talked about all their awesome races. Uh, Wayne Chapman from the other side of the world. We are like a global enterprise.
• 18:47
Isn't he from Down Under? From Australia. However you say that. Yeah. I don't do the accent. Yeah. Wayne, Wayne is the king of fat and mountain biking. Gubbis- Yes... the size of tangerines.
• 19:01
[laughs] The size of tangerines. It's, it's a crocodile, not an alligator. No, that's not at all. [laughs] You gotta go Michael Caine from, Michael Caine from Dark Knight. There you go. Then you get that.
• 19:13
[laughs] Um, yeah, and Gary Shoquist, who's been one of the biggest advocates for not only mountain biking, but fat biking, he was on show 30. And then Travis Brown. Another super, super interview. What a g- cool cat.
• 19:26
Definitely one worth listening to. And Brent Gale, Brent Gale was a great guest. I just loved his answer to the, uh, Velma versus, uh, what's the other chick on- Daphne... Daphne versus Velma. He was totally into Daphne.
• 19:43
[laughs] A Daphne man. Ah. So am I, of course. And speaking of Daphne, Natalie Menen- Menendez, Men- Na- Menendez... Natalia Menendez. Natalia. She's from Milwaukee. Yeah. And now- She's not in Milwaukee anymore, though.
• 19:57
Yeah. And now she doesn't even work for Freewill, but she works for a very cool bike rack and bike tool company- Do you know why?... the name escapes me. Because she was on Fat Bike Radio.
• 20:08
[laughs] And she blossomed to her new job. George Kapitz was on our show. He runs probably the biggest fat bike dealer in Northern Wisconsin. He sells more fat bikes in Wisconsin, I think, than anybody, at least he did.
• 20:22
And then the perfect visit-- I'm just gonna make fun, 'cause if I had a lisp and if my name was Lance Sisson. [laughs] Lance Sisson. [laughs] Hey, you know- Sorry, Lance... Lance is an awesome guy.
• 20:36
He's one of those guys who's just thrown his own money at a dream, and that's to get full suspension fat bikes going.
• 20:42
He threw a bunch of development money at it to try and get a kick-ass bike to ride and put his son on one and sell a few to friends, and now it's kind of a company or something. And then we went into reruns. Oh, yeah.
• 20:55
Well- Over the holidays... you'll get that around the holidays. It's true. [laughs] Then, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, around sh- show number 38, we developed the technology to enable people to use the telephone.
• 21:12
[laughs] Like Alexander Graham Bell. We can- Exactly... to call in to the radio show. Exactly. Yeah. That's been kind of an interesting segment. Yeah. It, it's kinda cool when people call in.
• 21:24
I like when we have, like, five people all at once and they're just- Well, yeah-... going off at each other... doing a mosh pit... mosh pit, mosh pitting. [laughs] We have, we have, we have, I think,
• 21:34
five here in this fabulous- We're not mosh pitting yet. Chris, can you get on some mosh pitting music, please? [laughs] So we had Sonja Looney on the show. She's a serious woman. Serious. Serious racer.
• 21:50
Speaking of, Rebecca Rusch was shortly after there, too, on- Oh, yeah... show number 40. Although, you know, I have them mixed up. Sonja is the Looney one- [laughs]... and Rebecca is the serious one. The Ruschiest one.
• 22:02
[laughs] She rushes around at breakneck speed. And then, oh, this is when [laughs] I was on my, "I'm gonna get every championship female fat bike racer on the show," so we had the best,
• 22:16
the best, uh, uh, racer in the, in our area, the Great Lakes series champion, April Morgan, on the show. April Morgan. We had a return engagement with Mr. Nick Ginster. This time we could talk about the- Yeah [laughs]...
• 22:30
Blackhawk fat bike. [laughs] Okay, you remember that thing that I was riding before? Now we can talk about it. It's a bike. [laughs] Unbelievable. It has two wheels. It's, it's, uh, it goes forward. Uh, uh, whatever.
• 22:41
It's named after this kickass Native American guy. Chief Black Hawk, that guy. There's a Chief Black Hawk beer, too, which we've had on the show. Yeah. That was last week.
• 22:50
Oh, yeah, coming on down the list, show number 51. No doubt. And then Sean Coffey from Richie was on the show. Gave us some cool- He loved talking about working with Tom, didn't he?
• 22:57
Yeah, some really cool insights about working with Tom on that. Heather Best, again, with the female fastness. And, uh- Chewy darkened our doorstep once again on show number 45.
• 23:11
And we gave away two Fat Bike Birkie entries 'cause it was sold out. One of the entries, uh, was a guy from... Oh, no, I think he was from Rockford, not from Zion. Yeah. Good story. And then- [laughs] [laughs]
• 23:25
Some guy- Ob- um, obviously my memory is a bit perforated. [laughs] Some guy, but he had lost his leg or something. Yeah, he had a, he definitely had a prosthetic.
• 23:33
And he had tried to get on, and then found about the contest. It was like a Hollywood story. Yeah, and he actually called in, and he was not the third caller, so- Oh, [laughs] and he had to call back...
• 23:41
he waited, and he had to call back. Yeah. [laughs] We made him call back. And then a week after the ITI, we just had the, uh, world record holder and, uh, champion of this year's ITI, John Lackey, on the show. Yeah.
• 23:54
IT- [laughs] It's a big race up there in Alaska. I don't know if you folks have heard about it. Yeah. And speaking of other fast guys, we had Will Ross the next week actually join us in the studio.
• 24:03
It was a cavalcade of champions. Cavalcade of champions on his 907. John Lackey. Fat Bike Birkie championship bicycle. And then Fat Bike Birkie champion, Will Ross. That's right, Bill.
• 24:12
And then Pugsley- We're looking for sponsorship for next year's show... and again, going, uh, 180 degrees of, of [laughs] the US national champion, we had the Pugsley world champion, Jeff Ogera. Mr. Jeff Ogera.
• 24:26
With, with, with calls of dissension. [laughs] I, I'm, I'm telling you- Remember the Chad and Dave- We tried to start an internet radio fight... [laughs] oh, yeah. [laughs] Well, that, that, that was the mosh pit.
• 24:39
That was the mosh pit. It would've been a- That's when the fight would've gone... if it would've been a forum, it would've been more fun. But I tell you, I was at Fat Bike Birkie that weekend.
• 24:45
If I did not have that commitment, I definitely would've been at the Pugsley Worlds. It's a fantastic event. [laughs] It's our kind of thing. Yeah.
• 24:53
You get to ride all day and, and then do stupid stuff on your bike all night. [laughs] And to round things out, we had w- the nicest guy and one of the fastest racers ever.
• 25:04
This guy, when I go on the speedway, uh, shop rides, he always hangs back and rides with an old, fat guy like me, and this is guy that is just, like, ripping fast. [instrumental music] So we had- Yep, awesome...
• 25:18
Tim Berntson on the show, Tahketon Trio Champion, which makes him- That was Intergalactic Super Bubble Plastic Champion, wasn't it? Exactly. Exactly. And then we had our friend Tim Krueger on the show, um, last week?
• 25:32
Uh, no, a week- Well, no, two weeks ago... no, we had, we had Mike Hurlinger on last week. Mike Hurlinger. From Club Ride, and that brings us up to- And that brings us out to today... today.
• 25:41
We got, uh, more luminaries in the studio- Mm-hmm... for show number 52. Chris, uh, Chris Daisy owns Zion Cyclery. Probably you didn't know that. You probably did. We've only said it about 50 times on the show.
• 25:53
But, uh, it's a super shop in Zion that, uh, has a very strong fat bike following. Chris, uh, how'd you get into fat biking? Um, well, kind of just by, uh...
• 26:04
Well, we l- of course had a Pugsley in first, uh, as did everybody, and, um,
• 26:10
pretty much saw right away how much fun these things were and started to just kind of collect all the companies while they were still small and play- Yeah... well in the same sandbox, so- Right, right...
• 26:20
now I've got 907 and Borealis and Trek and, uh, uh, who else do we have, Dave? Felt. Felt, yes. [laughs] Oh, one of, one of the s- few Midwest Felt dealers. Yeah.
• 26:30
You guys have, like, just right out the door of the shop almost, uh, some really good conditions on the beach to ride- It-... which really- Yes... showcase fat bikes a lot.
• 26:40
That's why it was kind of the perfect match for us. It's like, oh, you know, wow, we're right here on a beach.
• 26:44
And actually, I remember reading a very early article on, on fatbike.com, uh, the Illinois Riviera, I think they called it. [laughs] Oh. [laughs] And I was like, "Hey, that's right in front of our shop, basically."
• 26:56
[laughs] Right. Yeah, that was more summery than today. Today was not- [laughs]... quite as summery as the Riviera day. Yeah. Today we, we all rode in the, uh, a group ride that, that Chris organized called The Big Fish,
• 27:07
and, uh, it was, it was a great ride. We did have fun, yeah. There's all kinds of different kinds of obstacles and terrain to conquer. I saw some people crash. [laughs] I was one of them. Oh, yeah, JK off the wall.
• 27:21
[laughs] [laughs] Well, I fell the right way. I didn't fall into the damn lake. I congratulate you on that. [laughs] Yes. Way to fall the right way. Good instincts. [laughs] I'm like popping right back up, "Yeah, thanks.
• 27:32
Feels- [laughs]... good. Good." That was Dave's idea to go play on the breaker wall. [laughs] That, that was, that was a brilliant idea, Dave. Well, it was, it was a cool ride. It was, it was a cool ride.
• 27:42
Until I just had a moment of biker freeze there. [laughs] You know if, if you're not, if there's not a threat of death, it's not fun. [laughs] Well, it's like death to the right- [laughs]...
• 27:51
and just moderate bruising to the left. [laughs] I fell, I fell to the moderate bruising point. [laughs] The moderate bruising portion of today's ride will be supplied by Mr. JK Living. [laughs] Well, it was a good ride.
• 28:04
Yes. It was, it was just right. It was, it was just right. And you know, the best rides are always a little bit hard. They push you- Yeah... past the limit of where you would ride by yourself- Absolutely...
• 28:15
and I think we got there. And make you ride by beers that you wouldn't normally stop at. [laughs] There was a few beer stops that we stopped at, yeah. There were a couple beer stops. Yes. Yeah, yeah, we actually stopped.
• 28:25
We had some food. We got... We stopped at the right time. Mm-hmm. Rained a little bit. Well, we got rained on a little bit on the way back, but- Yeah, slightly. It was very light...
• 28:34
which means we're all honorary Belgians. [laughs] There was a big threat of green and blue on the r- radar. It just dissipated. That didn't, that didn't happen. Thank the lake.
• 28:45
[laughs] But it was an excuses for- That's, that's the Riviera force field. [laughs] Yeah. Just spit a little bit on us. [laughs] So yeah, good ride. Uh, we won't- Thanks for coming...
• 28:56
we, we won't be riding in, uh, in Zion this coming week. We'll be out at Sea Otter. Do you wanna do a little quick preview since we'll be out there when this show actually posts? Right.
• 29:06
Actually, when this show posts, we will be in day two of, uh, of our trip out there to Sea Otter, and we are kinda, like, proud to announce Adam Miller, formerly of Borealis Bikes, is going to be our professional spokesmuppet- Yep...
• 29:25
and interview foes ab- about their, uh, Mutts dual suspension.
• 29:31
Um, and the, the cool thing is he's going to interview, and then he's gonna ride the bikes and hawk 'em, and then we're gonna interview him about how they ride.
• 29:41
So the foe is Mutts, the Turner King Khan, something big or bigger- Bigger...
• 29:47
from Hayes, SRAM, the B- the Boostin, uh, GX platform, and Rocky Mountain has something new that- I guess they're gonna- They're gonna, they're gonna-... actually advertise...
