- 1:47Speaker 1: straight into the episode of Today. Hello, beautiful beans, and
- 1:53Speaker 1: welcome to the podcast episode off Today. This episode is
- 1:58Speaker 1: five steps to declutter your life, life and your mind
- 2:02Speaker 1: before twenty twenty six. I've really wanted to do one
- 2:05Speaker 1: of these episodes before the end of the year because
- 2:09Speaker 1: it's even if you're not gonna I mean, ideally I
- 2:11Speaker 1: want you to action these things before the end of
- 2:12Speaker 1: the year, but even if you don't, you have it
- 2:15Speaker 1: in your mind to be able to action them in January. Now,
- 2:18Speaker 1: I've said this before, and I'm going to say it again.
- 2:20Speaker 1: You don't need the end of the year to start
- 2:23Speaker 1: something new. You don't need a Monday, you don't need
- 2:25Speaker 1: the first of the month. You don't. However, I will
- 2:28Speaker 1: always always capitalize on the end of the year and
- 2:32Speaker 1: the start of the year for a reset and a refresh,
- 2:34Speaker 1: because firstly, why not. Secondly, I do believe that there
- 2:38Speaker 1: is something in this idea of this collective energy around us.
- 2:42Speaker 1: It's easier, it's not crucial, but it's easier to do
- 2:46Speaker 1: something when a lot of other people are doing that
- 2:48Speaker 1: thing at the same time. Okay, if everyone is doing
- 2:52Speaker 1: a reset, it's easier to just go along and do it.
- 2:55Speaker 1: As well, if everyone is doing a challenge or this
- 2:58Speaker 1: difficult thing or running a marathon or whatever. It's always
- 3:01Speaker 1: easier to do it when other people are doing it,
- 3:03Speaker 1: even if you're not even talking to them about it.
- 3:05Speaker 1: I feel like there's an energy of a refresh and
- 3:07Speaker 1: a restart. It's also where most people do take time off.
- 3:12Speaker 1: You take time off. A lot of people hopefully celebrate
- 3:16Speaker 1: this time with people that they love. They spend quality
- 3:18Speaker 1: time with people they love. It's a time to kind
- 3:20Speaker 1: of switch off, decompress, and kind of start the new
- 3:25Speaker 1: year with fresh eyes. So I'm going to capitalize on this.
- 3:28Speaker 1: You absolutely can do this at any point in your life.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Just make that clear. I'm not saying, oh my god,
- 3:33Speaker 1: it's different now than any other time of the year.
- 3:35Speaker 1: It's not. It's just a fun time to do it,
- 3:36Speaker 1: so why not lean into that fun. It's kind of like,
- 3:39Speaker 1: you know when people put up a Christmas tree in
- 3:42Speaker 1: November and other people get shitty, like, why the fuck not?
- 3:44Speaker 1: Can I not put a fucking Christmas tree up in November? Okay, anyway,
- 3:48Speaker 1: let's get into it. Also, life update, Life is epic, okay,
- 3:53Speaker 1: Loving the children, loving having twins. Every twin parent that
- 3:57Speaker 1: I've bumped into, we're like, how good is to twins?
- 4:00Speaker 1: Twins are so good? How good are twins?
- 4:01Speaker 2: Like?
- 4:01Speaker 1: It's just I don't know. I don't know if it's
- 4:03Speaker 1: because you expect it to be so intense with twins,
- 4:06Speaker 1: you almost prep yourself for you really prepare, and then
- 4:10Speaker 1: it's I don't want to say, like it's it's. Yeah,
- 4:13Speaker 1: it's a lot of work, but it's it's easier than
- 4:16Speaker 1: I thought it would be. It really is. Anyway, I've
- 4:19Speaker 1: also got a great support network. I'm also loving my
- 4:21Speaker 1: plans for the podcast in twenty twenty six. I've got
- 4:24Speaker 1: new management with the Fordham Company. It's just all happening
- 4:27Speaker 1: and I'm very excited and I feel like next year
- 4:29Speaker 1: it's going to be a really great fulfilling year emotionally,
- 4:34Speaker 1: family wise, work wise, massively. I feel like it's kind
- 4:39Speaker 1: of a new wind for the podcast. I've just got
- 4:41Speaker 1: a good vibe for it. And there's other exciting things
- 4:43Speaker 1: on the horizon that we'll just kind of get to
- 4:46Speaker 1: when we get to them. Okay, now let's get straight
- 4:49Speaker 1: into the episode of today. There are going to be
- 4:52Speaker 1: five steps or five different avenues that we're going to
- 4:56Speaker 1: hit as far as decluttering, because we're decluttering our life
- 5:00Speaker 1: and our mind because I think they go hand in hand.
- 5:03Speaker 1: We're talking about the physical, we're also talking about the
- 5:07Speaker 1: mental load and the emotional as well. I think if
- 5:09Speaker 1: you can tackle all these things, you're going to feel
- 5:11Speaker 1: a lot lighter in the mind coming into the new year.
- 5:15Speaker 1: And when you do this decluttering physically and in the mind,
- 5:20Speaker 1: it allows for you open up space for other things.
- 5:24Speaker 1: I think we just think, oh, it's just going to
- 5:26Speaker 1: reduce stress, or it's going to be or it's going
- 5:28Speaker 1: to that you will do all of that, but it's
- 5:29Speaker 1: also going to do a whole lot more. When you
- 5:32Speaker 1: have less stress in your life, you're able to be
- 5:34Speaker 1: more creative. Your mind flows a whole lot freer, you
- 5:38Speaker 1: can get into the flow state a whole lot better.
- 5:40Speaker 1: You're going to find your focus is better, your attention
- 5:43Speaker 1: is better. The same as when you get rid of
- 5:45Speaker 1: like when you cut the dead weight dud x or
- 5:50Speaker 1: situationship in your life. Not only have you gotten rid
- 5:52Speaker 1: of a stressor in your life, but you've also opened
- 5:56Speaker 1: it up for new fresh energy to come into your life.
- 5:59Speaker 1: You unin intentionally are cock blocking good things coming into
- 6:03Speaker 1: your life because you are, you know, hoarding bad relationships,
- 6:08Speaker 1: bad thoughts, bad behavioral patterns, shit in your life, digital clutter.
- 6:12Speaker 1: You're just hoarding unnecessarily things that you don't need to
- 6:15Speaker 1: be there, and when they're there, it blocks the ability
- 6:19Speaker 1: for other things, people, thoughts, believes, everything, to come in.
- 6:22Speaker 1: So this is very important that you do this before
- 6:25Speaker 1: and alongside when you're trying to create new things for
- 6:29Speaker 1: your future. All right, So this intentional decluttering begins. Number one.
- 6:37Speaker 1: We're going to clear the invisible noise first, all right.
- 6:42Speaker 1: So this is kind of unfinished decisions, cognitive clutter that
- 6:47Speaker 1: we're going to pay attention to and clear. Now, this
- 6:50Speaker 1: is one of those episodes where I really would love
- 6:51Speaker 1: for you to get a notebook and a pen and
- 6:54Speaker 1: or your fucking laptop whatever. I want you to write
- 6:58Speaker 1: it down. I want this to be a like an
- 7:00Speaker 1: interactive episode if possible. So I want you to kind
- 7:04Speaker 1: of think of everything that's unresolved in your mind, because
- 7:08Speaker 1: when you have these unresolved things, tasks, thoughts, even when
- 7:15Speaker 1: you're not doing them, you want to think of them
- 7:17Speaker 1: as open tabs in your brain. Okay, there's all these
- 7:20Speaker 1: open things. Now, you might not be doing anything towards
- 7:23Speaker 1: it actively, but they're always playing in your subconscious mind,
- 7:27Speaker 1: whether you realize it or not. It's kind of like
- 7:29Speaker 1: when you give your brain a task to remember a
- 7:32Speaker 1: name and you think, I can't remember that person's name.
- 7:35Speaker 1: So then you're like, oh, whatever, like it is what
- 7:37Speaker 1: it is, And then you switch tasks and you start
- 7:39Speaker 1: doing something.
- 7:39Speaker 3: I say, think that's the person's name, your mima, that's
- 7:43Speaker 3: the person's name. Right, Your subconscious was given the task,
- 7:48Speaker 3: your conscious mind couldn't do it. You subcontracted that task
- 7:51Speaker 3: to the subconscious mind.
- 7:52Speaker 1: And then when you thought your mind wasn't working on it,
- 7:54Speaker 1: it actually was and it comes into action. Now that's
- 7:58Speaker 1: a good thing when you want a good thing, but
- 8:00Speaker 1: it's a bad thing in the sense of when you've
- 8:02Speaker 1: got all these open tabs and you're not making sure
- 8:06Speaker 1: you close them off or get closure or finish off
- 8:08Speaker 1: that thing. So when we've got all these open tabs
- 8:11Speaker 1: in our mind, it actually leads us to have more
- 8:15Speaker 1: cognitive load, more stuff. And you'll hear a lot of
- 8:18Speaker 1: mothers talking about this, the cognitive load. They're always thinking
- 8:21Speaker 1: around all the background things because other people aren't going
- 8:25Speaker 1: to think about it. Other people aren't going to do it.
- 8:27Speaker 1: So even if they're not doing that thing right now,
- 8:29Speaker 1: it's in the back of their mind, back of their mind,
- 8:31Speaker 1: and whether you realize it or not, it's adding stress
- 8:34Speaker 1: to you. It's using up cognitive energy and cognitive space
- 8:37Speaker 1: that could be used for something else. Okay, so this
- 8:41Speaker 1: is where you're going to look at things like particular
- 8:45Speaker 1: conversations that you're having. You're looking at decisions that are pending,
- 8:49Speaker 1: bills that need to be paid even if they're not
- 8:52Speaker 1: due yet, but you could actually pay them now. If
- 8:54Speaker 1: you have the ability to do so. Appointments that need
- 8:57Speaker 1: to be made and locked into the diary, things that
- 9:01Speaker 1: are broken that need to get fixed, any kind of
- 9:05Speaker 1: life admin that needs to be done, Emails that need
- 9:08Speaker 1: replying to that maybe aren't urgent, but you eventually need
- 9:11Speaker 1: to get to messages, all of that. Okay, that's all
- 9:15Speaker 1: this invisible noise that we need to get to first.
- 9:17Speaker 1: So this is you're either going to do it, do
- 9:19Speaker 1: the thing. You're going to schedule it so it's locked
- 9:22Speaker 1: in and you don't have to think about it ever again,
- 9:23Speaker 1: like an appointment, for example, or like a meeting with
- 9:26Speaker 1: someone that you've known we're gonna meet up. We're gonna
- 9:27Speaker 1: met up, but you haven't. You're gonna delete it, or
- 9:30Speaker 1: you're gonna delegate it. So it's do it, schedule it,
- 9:32Speaker 1: delete it, or delegate. Those are your options. Okay, write
- 9:38Speaker 1: it all down, write it all the fuck down now.
- 9:41Speaker 1: I'm not saying you've got to do it all now.
- 9:42Speaker 1: I'm going to give you a little way to break
- 9:43Speaker 1: everything down at the end of this episode. But they're
- 9:45Speaker 1: the key points that we want to be focusing on.
- 9:48Speaker 1: So this step one, the invisible noise, all the little
- 9:52Speaker 1: random life admin things that you need to be giving
- 9:55Speaker 1: your attention to, whether it's urgent or whether it's in
- 9:57Speaker 1: the near future. That physio appointment book, the fucking physical
- 10:02Speaker 1: appointment that and I'm saying this because it's what I
- 10:05Speaker 1: actually need to do. But actually claim that thing from
- 10:09Speaker 1: your private health insurance that you couldn't claim at the
- 10:12Speaker 1: time because your card wasn't working. And now you've got
- 10:14Speaker 1: all these things that you need to claim. Do the claim.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Do the fucking claim. Get your money's back. Okay, that's
- 10:20Speaker 1: number one. Number two is your physical space reset. This
- 10:26Speaker 1: is huge for your nervous system. I highly recommend that
- 10:28Speaker 1: you do it often, not just at the end of
- 10:30Speaker 1: the year, not just on your birthday when you're doing
- 10:32Speaker 1: birthday resolutions, which I love doing, but often. Okay, this
- 10:38Speaker 1: physical clutter will equal clutter in the mind. I can
- 10:43Speaker 1: guarantee you that if you ever try and do work
- 10:46Speaker 1: in a really messy room. Let's say you work in
- 10:48Speaker 1: your bedroom. Okay, your beds unmade, You've got a pile
- 10:52Speaker 1: of clothes on the floor there. You haven't really done
- 10:54Speaker 1: your laundry in a couple of days, and you probably
- 10:56Speaker 1: could do a couple of loads of laundry, but then
- 10:58Speaker 1: even the clean clothes, and it's kind of bunched over there.
- 11:01Speaker 1: You know that if you were to open the wardrobe,
- 11:03Speaker 1: it's a fucking shit show in your wardrobe. Then you've
- 11:05Speaker 1: got that box of stuff that you need to give
- 11:07Speaker 1: away to Vinie's donate. Then you've got so already. Your
- 11:10Speaker 1: desk is a shit show. And then you open your
- 11:13Speaker 1: emails and there's three thousand unread email that, my friends,
- 11:17Speaker 1: is physical clutter, which is going to equal mental clutter.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Your mind is like, holy fucking shit, And even if
- 11:24Speaker 1: you're trying to ignore it, it's playing on your mind.
- 11:27Speaker 1: It is. It is clutter in your mind. Even if
- 11:30Speaker 1: you're not actively acknowledging it, you are feeling. It's adding
- 11:34Speaker 1: this stress. It's stuff that you know needs to be done. Subconsciously,
- 11:38Speaker 1: you're like, oh, I've got to do that. I'm gotta
- 11:39Speaker 1: do that. It's a mess. Okay. If your bed was made,
- 11:43Speaker 1: the wardrobe was cleared out, you had donated everything you
- 11:45Speaker 1: needed to donate, your laundry was up to date, your
- 11:47Speaker 1: desk was cleared, and it was just a pen, a
- 11:49Speaker 1: notepad and your computer, how would you feel, genuinely think
- 11:53Speaker 1: about it, you'd feel on top of the world. You'd
- 11:56Speaker 1: feel clear, you'd feel decluttered mentally as well, feel fresh.
- 12:01Speaker 1: You'd feel like, well, now I've got all this mental bandwidth.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Now I can do whatever I want. I can work
- 12:05Speaker 1: on this task, this assignment, this creative thing. I can
- 12:07Speaker 1: start writing, I can do whatever it is that I
- 12:09Speaker 1: need to do. I feel like I've got so much
- 12:11Speaker 1: free time just because you've cleared up physical clutter. Your
- 12:15Speaker 1: time feels like it's been cleared up because you're not
- 12:18Speaker 1: thinking about the shit that's there. Okay, So when it
- 12:22Speaker 1: comes to this physical space reset, you do it slowly, Okay.
- 12:29Speaker 1: I personally like to think off different categories for my clutter.
- 12:35Speaker 1: I've got a whole list in my notes. Actually, this
- 12:37Speaker 1: is what I've done in my notes, and it's you know,
- 12:39Speaker 1: where you have the circle that you tick off and
- 12:41Speaker 1: then it goes to the bottom, and then when you
- 12:43Speaker 1: unticket it kind of I think it stays at the bottom,
- 12:45Speaker 1: but then like the list resets, I have a big
- 12:47Speaker 1: list and it will be broken down. I was obviously
- 12:51Speaker 1: very bored this time this one time, but I break
- 12:54Speaker 1: down all the different sections of the home that and
- 12:58Speaker 1: it doesn't have to be daily, but that in order
- 13:01Speaker 1: I tackle, so it could be maybe three times a week.
- 13:03Speaker 1: And one of them is the draws of my bathroom
- 13:06Speaker 1: versus the cupboard behind the mirrors of my bathroom. So
- 13:08Speaker 1: I don't do them both in the same day. That
- 13:09Speaker 1: takes up too much time, so I do separate days.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Then I do you know my you know, these first
- 13:14Speaker 1: two draws of my wardrobe, then the bottom two draws.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Then there's one that it's just bedside table and under
- 13:19Speaker 1: the bed, then there's you know, and you go down
- 13:21Speaker 1: and they're like all when you know, when you look
- 13:23Speaker 1: at them, they're all between ten to twenty minute tasks.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Sometimes it's going to be even less. The fucking draw
- 13:28Speaker 1: in the kitchen where you throw the shit in, Okay,
- 13:30Speaker 1: So it's all bang ba And then every time that
- 13:32Speaker 1: I do it, I tick it off bang bang man.
- 13:35Speaker 1: And then once they're all done, I untick them as
- 13:37Speaker 1: I go bang bain. So you're going round that loop
- 13:40Speaker 1: again and again and again and again, and before you
- 13:42Speaker 1: know it, it's maybe three times a week. If you're
- 13:44Speaker 1: really like caen Bean, it's every day. If you're just
- 13:48Speaker 1: over eager when it comes to life, being declutted and
- 13:52Speaker 1: you're just going through that again and again. There's probably
- 13:54Speaker 1: like forty things on there because I really break it
- 13:56Speaker 1: down into small, bite sized pieces. But then every month
- 13:59Speaker 1: and I half, you're hitting that same thing again, hitting
- 14:02Speaker 1: it again. Right, it's amazing. You also want to think
- 14:06Speaker 1: of visible order. You don't want things piling up. You
- 14:11Speaker 1: want to think of clean surfaces, visible order, things that
- 14:13Speaker 1: are not going to do your head in and going
- 14:16Speaker 1: to add to the mental load. Okay, so of course, donate,
- 14:22Speaker 1: throw away, sell store something properly. But what I don't
- 14:26Speaker 1: want you to do is relocate clutter that actually doesn't
- 14:29Speaker 1: really help in the long term. You can help in
- 14:31Speaker 1: the short term if you're like I just need this
- 14:33Speaker 1: space to look cleaner, but in the long term, you're
- 14:35Speaker 1: gonna know that there's a bunch of fucking shit unfolded
- 14:38Speaker 1: laundry that's now going to crinkle, that now probably have
- 14:41Speaker 1: to iron or wash again because it's so crimpled. I
- 14:43Speaker 1: can't get the craise that shoved in that spare closet. Okay,
- 14:46Speaker 1: so you need to actually see to it eventually. I
- 14:48Speaker 1: don't want you to just shift clutter from once best
- 14:50Speaker 1: to the next to the next, and the next to
- 14:52Speaker 1: the next because that doesn't actually solve the problem. The
- 14:54Speaker 1: next one is digital declutter. This is a big one.
- 14:57Speaker 1: This is probably the biggest one. Okay. This is where
- 15:00Speaker 1: so much of our stress resides in our digital clutter.
- 15:03Speaker 1: This is your email inbox. For me, I've got like
- 15:06Speaker 1: literally five emails, so it's my five email inboxes. This
- 15:09Speaker 1: is your camera roll. This is just how you've set
- 15:14Speaker 1: up all your apps in your phone, apps that you
- 15:17Speaker 1: don't even use storage, always having to clear storage, messages,
- 15:21Speaker 1: all the shit. Okay, so and also subscribing to shit newsletters.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Knew all these things. So this is what we're gonna do.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Camera roll purge. You're gonna set aside. Let's say you
- 15:35Speaker 1: care about purging your camera roll and it's something that
- 15:36Speaker 1: matters to you. Some people don't need to do it,
- 15:38Speaker 1: some people do. If you do, you just set aside
- 15:41Speaker 1: timed ten minutes a day, or like I said, just
- 15:44Speaker 1: a couple of times a week, doesn't have to be
- 15:45Speaker 1: every day ten minutes, and you do whatever you can
- 15:47Speaker 1: of those ten minutes. After that time it goes off,
- 15:49Speaker 1: you're done. Okay. When you do it like that, it's
- 15:52Speaker 1: not this insurmountable task that you're like, oh my god,
- 15:54Speaker 1: I've got to wait till I have a whole day off,
- 15:55Speaker 1: and I'm going to ruin my day and waste a
- 15:58Speaker 1: whole day purging my There's also apps that apparently can
- 16:02Speaker 1: like cull heaps of like duplicate photos and shit like that.
- 16:05Speaker 1: But if you want to do it on your own,
- 16:06Speaker 1: just ten minutes, ten minutes, okay. The same goes for emails.
- 16:12Speaker 1: I set fifteen minute timer and within a week ish
- 16:17Speaker 1: week and a half, I've kind of got rid of
- 16:19Speaker 1: all the emails that I don't want in my inbox anymore,
- 16:21Speaker 1: and I've sorted them into their folders. Okay, mass unsubscribe,
- 16:27Speaker 1: Start unsubscribing to things that you don't need, you know,
- 16:31Speaker 1: like being like, what do you call it? Fucking advertising
- 16:34Speaker 1: material constantly coming into your inbox? Unsubscribe? Okay, apps that
- 16:39Speaker 1: you haven't used in over two months, call it two months.
- 16:43Speaker 1: You choose the timeline, get rid of them, delete them
- 16:46Speaker 1: if you're not sure if you're going to delete them
- 16:48Speaker 1: or not, move that app into a little folder. And
- 16:50Speaker 1: then when it's not visible, if you don't need to
- 16:53Speaker 1: use it because it's not in front of your face,
- 16:55Speaker 1: then maybe you actually never needed it, and you can
- 16:57Speaker 1: get rid of it. Okay. Another thing that's really is
- 17:00Speaker 1: look at all the apps that are on your home screen.
- 17:02Speaker 1: And this is one thing that I do. I'll put
- 17:04Speaker 1: the apps that I mainly use on the main screen
- 17:07Speaker 1: and on the second page. Then I keep like a
- 17:09Speaker 1: gap page and then the other one, and then it
- 17:11Speaker 1: makes me realize how little I use the apps that
- 17:13Speaker 1: are further down. And then that's when I can go
- 17:15Speaker 1: and delete them because they haven't used them in like
- 17:16Speaker 1: two months, So get rid of them. Get rid turn
- 17:19Speaker 1: off notifications. Turn off notifications on your emails. The only
- 17:23Speaker 1: notifications that I like to have coming through a text
- 17:25Speaker 1: and phone calls. That's it. I don't even have the
- 17:28Speaker 1: little number on my Instagram thing, nothing like, get rid
- 17:30Speaker 1: of that, because you're gonna check, like, don't don't kid yourself,
- 17:33Speaker 1: don't fucking kid yourself. You are going to check your
- 17:36Speaker 1: Instagram often enough. You don't need a notification saying someone's
- 17:41Speaker 1: send you a message. You're gonna be on there in
- 17:42Speaker 1: three months time anyway, babe. You don't need the fucking
- 17:45Speaker 1: little red circle. Okay, get rid of it. So you
- 17:48Speaker 1: want a home screen that supports a clear mind, Okay,
- 17:51Speaker 1: only the bare necessities on that home screen. You don't
- 17:53Speaker 1: want the little red bubbles. You don't want unnecessary notifications. Okay,
- 17:57Speaker 1: you don't want to your mind to be where you
- 17:59Speaker 1: don't want to be, So set yourself up for success,
- 18:03Speaker 1: and then also pay close attention to what you are
- 18:07Speaker 1: choosing to keep as well. Like when you move something
- 18:09Speaker 1: that I haven't used for like two months into a
- 18:11Speaker 1: new folder, call the folder time wasting, right, and then
- 18:14Speaker 1: put it in there, so that way you're like, this
- 18:17Speaker 1: actually is a time wasting I don't even need to
- 18:18Speaker 1: put in this fold I'm going to delete it straight away,
- 18:20Speaker 1: all right. So that is number three digital d clutter.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Number four, we're going to do emotional clutter. Audit. This
- 18:29Speaker 1: is huge. The other ones are more superficial, important, but superficial.
- 18:35Speaker 1: This one is the shit that basically what my podcast
- 18:38Speaker 1: is primarily about. This is really moving from the old
- 18:42Speaker 1: you into the new you. This is you doing something
- 18:44Speaker 1: about the negative things in your life or leaving it
- 18:46Speaker 1: there all together in the past. It's not kind of
- 18:48Speaker 1: dredging something along more than it needs to be. This
- 18:52Speaker 1: is unprocessed endings where you're able to find a bit
- 18:54Speaker 1: of closure and provide that for yourself. This is old
- 18:57Speaker 1: identities where kind of the old you does need to
- 18:59Speaker 1: dine in order for the new you to come through.
- 19:01Speaker 1: You can't have both at the same time. This is
- 19:04Speaker 1: things that you're attached to that don't serve you but
- 19:07Speaker 1: maybe represent safety of security. This is resentment, need for revenge, anger, jealousy, comparison,
- 19:19Speaker 1: that kind of shit. So you're gonna ask yourself for
- 19:21Speaker 1: these things. You can pause, write it down. You can
- 19:23Speaker 1: listen to this and then re listen and write it
- 19:25Speaker 1: down the second time. Whatever what's for you? Ask yourself?
- 19:28Speaker 1: What am I still carrying? That genuinely no longer applies
- 19:32Speaker 1: because obviously there's a reason why we hold something. You're
- 19:36Speaker 1: not like, We're not stupid, right, There's a reason why
- 19:39Speaker 1: we would carry something with us. But is that reason
- 19:41Speaker 1: valid enough? Okay? What no longer really applies to me anymore?
- 19:46Speaker 1: What more so applies to the old me that I
- 19:49Speaker 1: don't want to be anymore? So? Given that I'm going
- 19:52Speaker 1: to be this new me with you know, fresher beliefs,
- 19:54Speaker 1: healthier processing like ways of processing things, what doesn't apply?
- 19:59Speaker 1: Next question? Who am I resentful at but I'm avoiding
- 20:05Speaker 1: resolving that thing, because if you're never gonna resolve this thing,
- 20:10Speaker 1: this resentment that you carry, we need to find ways
- 20:13Speaker 1: of eliminating that resentment. And this episode isn't about that.
- 20:16Speaker 1: I've got all these episodes that talk about, you know,
- 20:18Speaker 1: like not needing revenge or resentment and all of that.
- 20:21Speaker 1: So just type in resentment and the episode should come up.
- 20:24Speaker 1: So God and look at that. But I think it's
- 20:26Speaker 1: important that you say, if I'm not willing to resolve
- 20:29Speaker 1: this with someone, but I'm carrying the resentment, the only
- 20:32Speaker 1: one who's going to suffer is Mete. You're holding a grudge,
- 20:34Speaker 1: go and listen to my holder Grudge holding a grudge
- 20:36Speaker 1: episode and how why we shouldn't do that and how
- 20:38Speaker 1: to get rid of it. Okay, if I am willing
- 20:41Speaker 1: to resolve it, I need to get that shit sorted soon.
- 20:45Speaker 1: And if I'm not sure if it's possible to resolve it,
- 20:47Speaker 1: then I need to decide is it worth putting my
- 20:49Speaker 1: energy too trying to resolve it or is this a
- 20:51Speaker 1: chapter that I need to close altogether because I'm scared
- 20:53Speaker 1: to try and put the energy into it and this
- 20:55Speaker 1: person's going to reject me and I'm not gonna be
- 20:57Speaker 1: able to resolve it with them, Okay, because you can
- 20:59Speaker 1: always resolve something either with the person or you resolve
- 21:02Speaker 1: it on your own, in your own head, and you
- 21:04Speaker 1: create the closure for yourself. Next question, which narratives have expired,
- 21:10Speaker 1: but I'm still living by it. Inadequacy, imposter syndrome, things
- 21:15Speaker 1: like that, things that you've told yourself, I'm a failure,
- 21:17Speaker 1: I'm this, I'm not this, I'm not this kind of person,
- 21:19Speaker 1: not a morning person, I'm not whatever. How much of
- 21:22Speaker 1: that actually needs to be part of your identity and
- 21:24Speaker 1: how much of that is actually really really flexible and
- 21:26Speaker 1: you could change it if you put your energy towards
- 21:29Speaker 1: changing it? Okay, because I need to stop using this
- 21:32Speaker 1: language if I actually want to change it. If you
- 21:34Speaker 1: love sleeping in and no aspect of your life would
- 21:36Speaker 1: be improved by getting up early, then you don't need
- 21:39Speaker 1: to change it. You can genuinely say I'm not a
- 21:41Speaker 1: morning person and I hope to never be one, then
- 21:43Speaker 1: that's great. But if you're someone that's like, God, I
- 21:45Speaker 1: fucking I wish I had that, but it's just not
- 21:47Speaker 1: me and I'm just not a morning person, then that's
- 21:49Speaker 1: something we need to look at changing Okay, then we've
- 21:52Speaker 1: got this another thing about what Okay, let's look at
- 21:56Speaker 1: the confrontation thing. This is separate to the questions I
- 21:58Speaker 1: want you to If you are looking for closure, if
- 22:02Speaker 1: you need closure, this is a few exercises that you
- 22:05Speaker 1: can do that's going to help you feel better. Number
- 22:09Speaker 1: one is write a few statements. Closure statements, things like
- 22:13Speaker 1: this chapter doesn't need me anymore. Things like there's nothing
- 22:16Speaker 1: that person can give me that I can't give myself.
- 22:18Speaker 1: There's nothing that person can say that I can't say
- 22:21Speaker 1: for myself. Things like I don't need to hear it
- 22:24Speaker 1: from them, I've seen it from them. All these statements
- 22:27Speaker 1: help us start to create our enclosure. But then there's
- 22:30Speaker 1: also things that you can do, such as like write
- 22:33Speaker 1: the letter, but you don't have to send it. Just
- 22:36Speaker 1: the simple act of putting your emotions and your thoughts
- 22:38Speaker 1: and your feelings on paper or typed out and like
- 22:40Speaker 1: everything you feel in saying everything you said. Then when
- 22:43Speaker 1: it comes to the actual sending it, you're like, you
- 22:44Speaker 1: know what I just needed to then I just needed
- 22:47Speaker 1: to get that off my chest. And now that it's
- 22:49Speaker 1: off my chest and on paper, I have no need
- 22:51Speaker 1: to send it anymore. That was my therapy, and it's
- 22:54Speaker 1: really helpful to do that. Sometimes when we bottle it up,
- 22:57Speaker 1: we carry it and we carry it and we carry
- 22:59Speaker 1: it right and fuck. You might write it and be like,
- 23:02Speaker 1: this is brilliant, this is the masterpiece. I'm fucking sending it.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Then send it if you want, if it makes it
- 23:07Speaker 1: feel good, but write journal the letter and you don't
- 23:11Speaker 1: even have to send it. Okay, that's your therapy. Then
- 23:13Speaker 1: we're also going to look at letting go of concepts
- 23:16Speaker 1: that are outdated, like I'm the one who has to
- 23:19Speaker 1: hold everything together. You don't. You don't have to be
- 23:21Speaker 1: the one that holds everything together in order to be
- 23:24Speaker 1: a strong person. You can be a strong person and
- 23:26Speaker 1: be like, I can't do this on my own, all right.
- 23:30Speaker 1: You don't have to be the one that says I
- 23:32Speaker 1: can never let anyone down. I can never disappoint people.
- 23:35Speaker 1: You know, if I did this, it would disappoint someone.
- 23:37Speaker 1: If I did this, it would disappoint So start looking
- 23:40Speaker 1: at these self concepts that really hold you back from
- 23:43Speaker 1: doing things. If you say to yourself, God, I'd love
- 23:45Speaker 1: to try that thing, or I'd love to move here,
- 23:46Speaker 1: or I'd love to start this random form of exercise
- 23:50Speaker 1: or this hobby. But I can't because I would let
- 23:54Speaker 1: someone down, disappoint this person. People would laugh at me.
- 23:56Speaker 1: I would then, how can we look at that. Let's
- 23:58Speaker 1: bring that to the surface and re re establish what
- 24:02Speaker 1: that self concept could look like, re establish how we're
- 24:05Speaker 1: going to approach it, how much power that thing is
- 24:08Speaker 1: going to have over us. Yes, they're going to laugh
- 24:10Speaker 1: at me, but they also aren't going to spend much
- 24:15Speaker 1: time thinking about me because they're probably thinking about themselves
- 24:18Speaker 1: and their own dramas and other gossip and other things.
- 24:20Speaker 1: So while I'm worried about someone laughing at me because
- 24:23Speaker 1: I've decided to start this new thing that might be
- 24:25Speaker 1: embarrassing this person, Okay, yeah, they might laugh, but it's
- 24:28Speaker 1: only going to take up zero point zero zero one
- 24:30Speaker 1: percent off their day laughing at me. Then they're on
- 24:32Speaker 1: to the next thing. Is that enough for me to
- 24:34Speaker 1: not follow through with this thing? Can I live with
- 24:36Speaker 1: the fact that someone's behind.
- 24:37Speaker 2: My back being like Luels's just trying to start a
- 24:39Speaker 2: new Instagram and it's trying to I probably can live
- 24:42Speaker 2: with that because it's not gonna and even if it
- 24:45Speaker 2: did consume their life isn't that more telling about how
- 24:48Speaker 2: boring their life is than it is about mine?
- 24:51Speaker 1: Really, so good on them if they want to laugh
- 24:55Speaker 1: about you know that for days, that just shows how
- 24:58Speaker 1: boring their life is. Pity them if anything. Okay, so
- 25:02Speaker 1: those are the things you want to start working through
- 25:04Speaker 1: with your emotional clutter order. Another thing you could do
- 25:07Speaker 1: is just take a long scroll through my podcast history
- 25:09Speaker 1: and look at the episodes and you're like, yeap, I
- 25:11Speaker 1: need to revisit that one, that one, and that one
- 25:13Speaker 1: because they're the main things that I'm working on right now. Bang,
- 25:15Speaker 1: listen to them, write it all down and start taking
- 25:17Speaker 1: action sense sense. And then lastly, we have number five.
- 25:29Speaker 1: This is declutter your time and commitments. This is big,
- 25:33Speaker 1: This is important. Okay. You don't necessarily need to have
- 25:37Speaker 1: all this new shit in the new year. Sometimes your
- 25:40Speaker 1: new year is just less. Less is more. When I'm
- 25:44Speaker 1: doing less, I actually get to properly enjoy the things
- 25:47Speaker 1: that I am enjoying or that I am good at,
- 25:50Speaker 1: or that I should be investing my time in, you know,
- 25:52Speaker 1: whether it be with people, relationships, family, this hobby that
- 25:55Speaker 1: I want to do, or my career that I actually
- 25:56Speaker 1: love that I'm spread too thin and I never get to,
- 25:58Speaker 1: you know, really sink my teeth into Okay, so we
- 26:02Speaker 1: need to do a bit of an audit on social
- 26:04Speaker 1: obligations that really drain you. I don't have to hang
- 26:07Speaker 1: around with these people anymore. And maybe I'm telling myself
- 26:10Speaker 1: that I need to hang around with these people because
- 26:12Speaker 1: I think I've got no friends. But if they drain you,
- 26:14Speaker 1: are they really a friends? Can you look for friends elsewhere?
- 26:16Speaker 1: Maybe we need to cull before we start to expand. Okay,
- 26:19Speaker 1: So order social obligations that drain you. I don't care
- 26:22Speaker 1: what they're going to think of me. Work habits that
- 26:25Speaker 1: don't really move the needle. There might be certain things
- 26:27Speaker 1: that you're like, I've been doing this and it's wasting
- 26:30Speaker 1: so much time, and it's because people have told me
- 26:32Speaker 1: that I should be doing it, but I don't see
- 26:34Speaker 1: it benefit me. Maybe I need to trust something else
- 26:36Speaker 1: that would benefit me. Okay, Meetings that you don't need
- 26:40Speaker 1: to be in, or that you you know, maybe you
- 26:42Speaker 1: could re rehash how a meeting is done, and if
- 26:46Speaker 1: you don't think that you're going to benefit from the meeting,
- 26:48Speaker 1: speak up about that. Okay, this is talking about just
- 26:51Speaker 1: like work, related things, but you know, friendships all together
- 26:56Speaker 1: that you're investing time into and you're like this is
- 26:58Speaker 1: killing me. Or you could be like, you know what,
- 27:01Speaker 1: I could still go to this event, but why do
- 27:04Speaker 1: I have to? What do I feel like I've got
- 27:06Speaker 1: to be there for hours? Why don't you be like,
- 27:08Speaker 1: you know what, I'm still going to invest some time
- 27:09Speaker 1: into these people, but I'll tap out early, or I
- 27:12Speaker 1: don't have to go to every single one of these things.
- 27:14Speaker 1: You know, let's say you don't love your in laws.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Do you have to go to every single event with
- 27:19Speaker 1: your in laws? Why don't you just go to a couple,
- 27:21Speaker 1: You show your face, you put in the effort, and
- 27:23Speaker 1: then you're like, you know what, I don't have to do.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Or you go to all of them, but you only
- 27:26Speaker 1: go for a couple of hours and then you leave
- 27:27Speaker 1: and then your partner can stay there if they want. Right,
- 27:30Speaker 1: whatever it is, we want to simplify this to what
- 27:32Speaker 1: are our core priorities? Where should my time? Where is
- 27:35Speaker 1: my time best spent? Because it's something I'm never going
- 27:38Speaker 1: to get back, so where is it really best spent?
- 27:40Speaker 1: What are my non negotiable values? And do these things
- 27:43Speaker 1: align with those values? Do they align with this new
- 27:46Speaker 1: kind of energy that I want to provide for myself
- 27:49Speaker 1: coming into the new year, and then making sure that
- 27:55Speaker 1: you're not constantly being like, oh, I'm trying to fit
- 27:57Speaker 1: it all in. I'm trying to fit it all in.
- 27:58Speaker 1: I'm trying to prioritize. Priority, has prioritized some things I'm
- 28:01Speaker 1: not going to be able to happen, but then you're
- 28:02Speaker 1: going to be able to really expand to grow in
- 28:04Speaker 1: other things. Now, something that I haven't added in to
- 28:07Speaker 1: all of this, but it should fit into the like
- 28:11Speaker 1: it should fit into declutter your time and commitments, and
- 28:13Speaker 1: it should also fit into your invisible noise, and your
- 28:18Speaker 1: digital deal fits into most of them. But basically, it's
- 28:21Speaker 1: really get clear on how you want to be using
- 28:24Speaker 1: social media and how much of that time it's eating
- 28:27Speaker 1: up of your time versus not. Okay, so I want
- 28:30Speaker 1: you to kind of reapproach how you're going to look
- 28:33Speaker 1: at social media. One thing that I found that I
- 28:36Speaker 1: did so when breastfeeding, you're kind of they're stuck in
- 28:40Speaker 1: the one location and you're on your phone often. Okay,
- 28:43Speaker 1: So one thing that I thought that I would do
- 28:46Speaker 1: so I'm not just scrolling scroll and scrolling. When I
- 28:48Speaker 1: would breastfeed would be I would have like these really
- 28:51Speaker 1: cool vision boards that I would have on my Pinterest.
- 28:54Speaker 1: So if it's late at night, instead of having that
- 28:56Speaker 1: stimulation off like being on Instagram scrolling, I could be
- 29:01Speaker 1: looking at a vision board that I had for work
- 29:04Speaker 1: and I start getting work ideas and whatever. So it's
- 29:06Speaker 1: still kind of you know, you still scrolling, you're still
- 29:09Speaker 1: getting that like fix, but it's a little bit more
- 29:12Speaker 1: you know, productive, or it's something that's not going to
- 29:15Speaker 1: be like a doom scroll. You can switch out of
- 29:17Speaker 1: it quite quickly. It's this it's not as addictive. That's
- 29:20Speaker 1: just a personal thing that I've done and it helped
- 29:22Speaker 1: me shift into something that's a bit more like brainstormy
- 29:25Speaker 1: or creative and things like that. All right, So in
- 29:27Speaker 1: summary or not in summary, before we summarize, let's go
- 29:32Speaker 1: into these micro raset actions that we can be doing.
- 29:36Speaker 1: So the first one is ten minute kind of power
- 29:40Speaker 1: sweeps throughout the day of things that you're doing with
- 29:43Speaker 1: you know, around of like physical clutter like one drawer day,
- 29:47Speaker 1: one thing, like I said, like have that list and
- 29:49Speaker 1: just spend ten minutes or fifteen minutes towards it. Do
- 29:51Speaker 1: that daily until January first, and see how that goes
- 29:54Speaker 1: through until you go away on holidays. And then if
- 29:56Speaker 1: you've like I'm loving this, then you carry it on
- 29:58Speaker 1: into the new year. Fifteen minut at ten to fifteen
- 30:00Speaker 1: minute digital declutter sessions. You do this at night in
- 30:04Speaker 1: the morning, whenever you're able to do it. Something that
- 30:08Speaker 1: you know, like you do every night for seven days
- 30:11Speaker 1: and then you just drop down to three days a week,
- 30:12Speaker 1: or you do whatever it is. But something that you
- 30:14Speaker 1: know that you're going to be able to stick to
- 30:16Speaker 1: and that feels good and it feels productive. And then
- 30:19Speaker 1: something that I'd like you to do is maybe tick
- 30:21Speaker 1: off five to ten lingering tasks that are in the
- 30:25Speaker 1: back of your mind that you need to do before
- 30:27Speaker 1: the end of the year, and you're going to get
- 30:29Speaker 1: them done. Book the appointment. It only takes you fifteen minutes,
- 30:31Speaker 1: but you've been avoiding it. Go and claim that thing back.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Go and you know, lock in that catch up with
- 30:37Speaker 1: that person that you actually want to catch up with.
- 30:39Speaker 1: Things like that. Okay, those lingering tasks, you're going to
- 30:41Speaker 1: get at least five of those done before the end
- 30:43Speaker 1: of the year. Okay, you're doing this as a neurological raceset.
- 30:48Speaker 1: This is for your mind, This is for your sanity.
- 30:51Speaker 1: This is for your to lower anxiety, to increase your happiness,
- 30:54Speaker 1: to increase this feeling of satisfaction in your life where
- 30:58Speaker 1: you feel like your life has purpose, it's got you know, like,
- 31:01Speaker 1: it's not this. You're not on this hamster wheel the
- 31:04Speaker 1: whole time. You can actually pause, reflect, enjoy your life. Okay,
- 31:10Speaker 1: And this is another thing. It's not about becoming a minimalist.
- 31:14Speaker 1: You can still have the things that you love, You can
- 31:15Speaker 1: still do all these things. It's about getting rid of
- 31:18Speaker 1: the stuff that doesn't serve you. That's a waste of
- 31:20Speaker 1: your time, energy, and money and attention. You're just getting
- 31:24Speaker 1: rid of things that are no longer relevant to you. Okay,
- 31:27Speaker 1: that's what we're doing. And we're just tidying it up,
- 31:29Speaker 1: organizing it, organizing it because the more organized you are,
- 31:33Speaker 1: less clutter, more tidy thoughts that you want to be
- 31:35Speaker 1: thinking versus the ones that don't. Using what serves you,
- 31:38Speaker 1: not using what doesn't serve you. The more you open
- 31:41Speaker 1: it up to feel good about yourself, to feel like
- 31:43Speaker 1: you are on track, to feel satisfied with your life
- 31:45Speaker 1: to feel like you're growing in the right direction, and
- 31:48Speaker 1: to bring in more creativity. You're going to have way
- 31:50Speaker 1: more ideas, way more creativity. You're going to really start
- 31:52Speaker 1: to enjoy the moments within your day a whole lot more.
- 31:56Speaker 2: So.
- 31:56Speaker 1: To summarize the five points, Number one, we've got clear
- 32:00Speaker 1: the invisible noise first, So this is the mental tabs
- 32:04Speaker 1: that are open. Number two your physical space reset, number
- 32:08Speaker 1: three digital declutter, Number four emotional clutter. And number five
- 32:13Speaker 1: it's decluttering your time and your commitments. So go through
- 32:17Speaker 1: all of that. Listen to the episode again if you
- 32:19Speaker 1: need to write it all down. This is like a
- 32:21Speaker 1: fun homework task to do before the new year, and
- 32:23Speaker 1: I'm very excited I'm doing it. I'm going to do
- 32:25Speaker 1: this on myself for the record, and I'm very excited
- 32:28Speaker 1: for it. So I'm going to do that this week anyway, guys,
- 32:32Speaker 1: that is all for the episode of today. I really
- 32:35Speaker 1: hope that you can take a lot away from today's episode.
- 32:39Speaker 1: Love you guys so much. That is all for today.
- 32:42Speaker 1: As always, remember be kind to yourself, be kind to
- 32:44Speaker 1: your brain by doing all these five points, by doing
- 32:47Speaker 1: it all, don't take shit from anyone, and especially don't
- 32:49Speaker 1: take shit from yourself. Dun't s.
