- 1:14Speaker 2: This is from Jess Dear Jessa, dear oh, podcasting like
- 1:19Speaker 2: it's nineteen ninety nine. Justice not a foreign concept has
- 1:22Speaker 2: never been so delightful. It always makes me laugh, and
- 1:24Speaker 2: I enjoy how much fun Brandon Dan seem to have.
- 1:27Speaker 2: I belong to the Double Deckers solely for this show
- 1:31Speaker 2: and the late history of his story RIP. I listen
- 1:34Speaker 2: to Yo Gavel Gavel as I fall asleep most every night.
- 1:36Speaker 2: I re listen a lot, and of almost every show saved.
- 1:39Speaker 2: There's something to be said about other people's petty problems
- 1:43Speaker 2: that makes my brain relax. Plus, I find Brandon Dan's
- 1:46Speaker 2: voices soothing. Apparently the downside is sometimes I laugh so
- 1:49Speaker 2: hard I wake up my husband. Anyway, this review is
- 1:52Speaker 2: circling the airport with no place to land. Thanks for
- 1:55Speaker 2: making a marvelously fantastic show and helping my ADHD brain
- 2:00Speaker 2: to shut up, Jesse, so kind, love it, And yes
- 2:05Speaker 2: I did go to Mathis's courtroom, as I am one
- 2:08Speaker 2: to do.
- 2:08Speaker 1: I love Judge Mathis.
- 2:11Speaker 2: What a wonderful court room, What a wonderful judge, What
- 2:14Speaker 2: a wonderful world, people are saying. Christine Chow Is suing
- 2:18Speaker 2: her former bff Janella Silva for five for five hundred dollars. Yeah,
- 2:27Speaker 2: for five hundred.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Yeah it is. There's some math that's a little wonky.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Janella is countersuing Christine for thirty five hundred dollars for harassment.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Christine, that's more than five hundred, way more.
- 2:39Speaker 2: You got it, Christine says, Listen, Janelle and I have
- 2:41Speaker 2: known each other for ten years, went to high school together.
- 2:43Speaker 1: I thought I could trust her.
- 2:45Speaker 2: She took advantage of me and and she used me
- 2:49Speaker 2: and it was no good. Math is like, what happened?
- 2:52Speaker 2: He's She's like, well, in July, I received a phone call.
- 2:54Speaker 2: He goes, no, no, no, I know it's gonna happen here.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Did anything else happen in your friendship in the ten years?
- 2:59Speaker 2: Or was it all amazing? And then this?
- 3:02Speaker 1: And Christine's like, it was all amazing until so ten years?
- 3:06Speaker 1: Is issu? Yeah?
- 3:08Speaker 3: He makes me feel like, I mean, I think we're
- 3:09Speaker 3: gonna be friends for everybody. Yeah, I can think about
- 3:11Speaker 3: one thing that can happen. Let's just let's just enjoy it.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Until that day, couscass, you know what I mean? Janella says,
- 3:18Speaker 3: we were really close. There was a friend group of six,
- 3:20Speaker 3: but in that six, Christine and I were the closest.
- 3:23Speaker 3: We told each other everything, and she goes, I told
- 3:25Speaker 3: her a lot of things in confidence because I thought
- 3:28Speaker 3: I could trust her, like personal things from my life.
- 3:31Speaker 3: And masis just like like what and Janelle is like, well,
- 3:35Speaker 3: there's secrets.
- 3:35Speaker 2: And he goes, so she kept the secrets and Jella
- 3:38Speaker 2: he goes, yeah, she kept the secrets. He goes, well, great,
- 3:40Speaker 2: so there was no issues there. He goes, if you
- 3:42Speaker 2: want to tell me, I won't. He does a weird bit.
- 3:45Speaker 2: I won't tell anybody if you want to tell me.
- 3:47Speaker 2: It was weird. It's a weird thing that he did.
- 3:49Speaker 2: He was like, it's on TV. But also it's kind
- 3:51Speaker 2: of creepy. Sorry, now he doesn't always hit home runs,
- 3:53Speaker 2: you know what I mean?
- 3:54Speaker 1: So uh.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Janella also says no problems or anything before this, So
- 3:57Speaker 2: both both are like friends for ten straight years than this.
- 4:00Speaker 2: I received a phone call from Janelle. She was like,
- 4:02Speaker 2: my car is being repossessed. I need six hundred dollars,
- 4:05Speaker 2: not five hundred.
- 4:06Speaker 1: So before and then the Demon case, yeah, they came back.
- 4:09Speaker 1: It was a double extracise. That's right.
- 4:10Speaker 2: It's very similar to a vampire reality show we watch
- 4:14Speaker 2: called re Emerged to Bite where the vampires were killed
- 4:17Speaker 2: and they come back and they live.
- 4:19Speaker 1: In the real world house. We don't have time.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Later we could talk about it. Emerged to Bite and
- 4:22Speaker 2: check it out. Six hundred dollars she needs so they
- 4:26Speaker 2: won't take her car. Yes, we can't do it right now.
- 4:31Speaker 1: We can't.
- 4:31Speaker 2: We can't, we can't, we can't do it. And so
- 4:34Speaker 2: Christine's like, I lent her the money. I lent her
- 4:36Speaker 2: the money. It was six hundred dollars so they wouldn't
- 4:38Speaker 2: repossess her car. And she didn't pay me at all. She
- 4:41Speaker 2: didn't have any money. But then she told me she
- 4:43Speaker 2: would pay me back. She told me she would pay
- 4:45Speaker 2: me back. I waited and waited from July all the
- 4:47Speaker 2: way to January. So for six straight months she doesn't
- 4:50Speaker 2: pay and in January she shows up and gives me
- 4:52Speaker 2: three hundred bucks, so half of it, no problems. And
- 4:56Speaker 2: then matthis goes, how much has she paid you to
- 4:58Speaker 2: this day? She says three fish fifty and he goes,
- 5:00Speaker 2: all right, six hundred minus three fifty is two fifty.
- 5:03Speaker 2: You're suing for five hundred dollars. Christine says, yes, two
- 5:06Speaker 2: hundred and fifty for what she owes me two hundred
- 5:09Speaker 2: and fifty for emotional distress. He's like, what's that about.
- 5:12Speaker 2: She said, well, I didn't need the money at the time.
- 5:15Speaker 2: I was happy to let her borrow it. But it's
- 5:17Speaker 2: been such a hassle. I've had to contact her numerous times.
- 5:20Speaker 2: It's been such a burden. It's really weighing on me
- 5:23Speaker 2: having to get this money back from a friend. And
- 5:25Speaker 2: to this point that Judge Matthis says, so emotional distress
- 5:29Speaker 2: by definition has to be an extreme or outrageous act.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Not paying your bills isn't extreme or outrageous. It's actually
- 5:37Speaker 2: common if people could get emotional distress payments because someone
- 5:40Speaker 2: didn't pay their bills, every bill collection agency would be
- 5:43Speaker 2: in court asking for emotional distress payments. You can't do that.
- 5:47Speaker 2: You're not suing for five hundred, you're suing for two fifty.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Christine says, okay, let's get to Janella's countersuit. Say, listen,
- 5:54Speaker 2: I did borrow six hundred because of my financial situation.
- 5:58Speaker 2: I just couldn't pay it ever, set a date. I
- 6:01Speaker 2: paid her three hundred and fifty dollars and then things
- 6:03Speaker 2: started to escalate. She started harassing me at work, He goes, well,
- 6:06Speaker 2: why didn't you, Like, when's the last time you made
- 6:09Speaker 2: a payment? She said may. She said well, why why
- 6:12Speaker 2: didn't you make any more payments? Janelle said, well, my
- 6:14Speaker 2: mom and I were dealing with their own situation and
- 6:17Speaker 2: then my mom finally paid off my cars. Who wouldn't
- 6:19Speaker 2: get repossessed again? He goes, do you work? She said, yeah,
- 6:22Speaker 2: I work. He goes, well, then why did the like
- 6:25Speaker 2: why couldn't you pay her? He's like, well, I just
- 6:27Speaker 2: had to get this money and they were going to
- 6:28Speaker 2: repossess the car. He said why they clearly you weren't
- 6:31Speaker 2: paying the car, like you weren't paying the money in
- 6:33Speaker 2: the car, And she got here's the money going that
- 6:35Speaker 2: she's ranking and so she said, no, I lost my job.
- 6:38Speaker 1: That's why they repossessed the car.
- 6:39Speaker 2: So she doesn't have a job, and he said, one,
- 6:42Speaker 2: they don't repossess the car when you lose your job.
- 6:44Speaker 2: They repossessed the car when you fail to pay. They're
- 6:47Speaker 2: hoping that you have a relative that will swoop in
- 6:49Speaker 2: and pay the car. They don't want to repossess the car,
- 6:51Speaker 2: they want your money. Just because you lost your job
- 6:54Speaker 2: doesn't mean they repossessed it. You weren't paying it. She
- 6:57Speaker 2: was like, well, I got my job back and then
- 6:59Speaker 2: I ended up paying it all. So I got my
- 7:01Speaker 2: car out. I have my car. He's like, but why
- 7:03Speaker 2: did they repossess it in the first place. He's trying
- 7:05Speaker 2: to get this information. She just keeps saying she lost
- 7:08Speaker 2: her job. It goes on and on his circle. He goes, or,
- 7:10Speaker 2: why didn't you pay her back? And she said, you
- 7:13Speaker 2: know what, I under two fifty. She started harassing me.
- 7:15Speaker 2: How did she rask you? Well, she was calling my job.
- 7:18Speaker 2: She wouldn't state who she was, but she's the only
- 7:20Speaker 2: person that calls me Janey, not Janella, and that's how
- 7:22Speaker 2: I knew who it was. Yes, okay, my boss in
- 7:27Speaker 2: fact had to come and tell me I couldn't receive
- 7:29Speaker 2: any more personal calls and she needed to stop. And
- 7:33Speaker 2: it was to the point where I almost lost my job.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Matthews says, Christine, did you call her job? Christine said,
- 7:39Speaker 2: I did call her work a few times. I was
- 7:41Speaker 2: never asked by anyone to stop calling. I more often
- 7:44Speaker 2: called her personal number. She was no longer responding. The
- 7:48Speaker 2: judge says, if you owed somebody a couple hundred dollars,
- 7:51Speaker 2: do you think it would be acceptable for someone to
- 7:54Speaker 2: call your work anytimes, any a single time, if you
- 7:58Speaker 2: owned somebody a couple hundred dollars. Christine says, yes, yes,
- 8:02Speaker 2: I do. A few times they call my work a
- 8:04Speaker 2: few times, that would be normal. He said, I don't
- 8:06Speaker 2: know if most people would agree with you. He's ready
- 8:09Speaker 2: to rule.
- 8:10Speaker 3: Ah, man, that's tough. Well, we're throwing out the countersuit.
- 8:14Speaker 3: Chuck says that I think it's clear that we're gonna
- 8:17Speaker 3: throw out the other one, the emotional distress, so we're
- 8:22Speaker 3: left to the two fifty. I'm gonna give it to her,
- 8:27Speaker 3: even though I think there's a chance that matthis says
- 8:30Speaker 3: that you harassing somebody at work voids your two fifty.
- 8:35Speaker 3: But I'm gonna give her the two fifty because it
- 8:37Speaker 3: seems pretty cut and dry that she has owed that money.
- 8:40Speaker 2: He does not throw out the counterclaim for thirty five
- 8:44Speaker 2: hundred dollars. What he says is you called her work
- 8:47Speaker 2: multiple times. That is harassment. He grants her the two
- 8:50Speaker 2: hundred and fifty dollars that she's owed, and then he
- 8:53Speaker 2: grants the defendant two hundred and fifty dollars for harassment.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Everybody walks away with nothing, and Mathis is as hard
- 9:01Speaker 2: as he's ever Mathist.
- 9:02Speaker 3: There you go, fair enough, fair enough, Judge Mathis. Let's
- 9:06Speaker 3: head over to America's Court show.
- 9:08Speaker 1: I would love justice.
- 9:09Speaker 3: No foreign concept there, Judge Ross Residing. We got Reggie
- 9:14Speaker 3: Hillson who was suing Taylor Hicks. Not that Taylor Hicks
- 9:17Speaker 3: for five hundred dollars. Another too close to home story
- 9:23Speaker 3: for us Dan. This is Reggie suing his ex business partner.
- 9:26Speaker 3: I got four and they were fifty to fifty partners.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Do you do you remember when we tried to get
- 9:32Speaker 3: on Judge Judy with us. Yeah, that was a fun time.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Well this is we should have gone to America's Court.
- 9:36Speaker 1: It's fun.
- 9:38Speaker 3: So Reggie issuing his ex business partner. There were roommates
- 9:40Speaker 3: for two years, then they went into business. When Reggie
- 9:43Speaker 3: had an idea, Reggie's cousin gave him a box of
- 9:47Speaker 3: collectible toys. His cousin was a big fan of collectible toys.
- 9:53Speaker 3: He was moving, didn't have room for all of them.
- 9:55Speaker 3: He gave him the ones that he didn't need anymore.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Little did he know Taylor was really into collecting and
- 10:02Speaker 3: flipping toys. Okay, cool, Taylor explains, that he once sold
- 10:07Speaker 3: some childhood toys for twenty five hundred dollars and he's
- 10:11Speaker 3: been chasing that high ever since.
- 10:14Speaker 1: That's the good stuff, exactly right.
- 10:15Speaker 3: So they get to talking about this, they start flipping
- 10:18Speaker 3: the toys and it's going well. So they decide to
- 10:20Speaker 3: start a business together, and they're gonna split the business
- 10:23Speaker 3: fifty fifty, got it, got it? Okay, So they both
- 10:29Speaker 3: say they got their fifty percent of the profits for
- 10:34Speaker 3: the first two months.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Okay, easy piece, easy peasy. Month three comes around and Taylor.
- 10:40Speaker 3: Hicks with holds the full amount of money for back
- 10:46Speaker 3: rent Ode.
- 10:48Speaker 2: What.
- 10:48Speaker 3: Yes, Reggie does admit to missing a month, but Taylor
- 10:56Speaker 3: agreed to pay him back.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Reggie agreed to pay him. Reggie him back. Reggie agreed
- 11:04Speaker 1: to pay Taylor back. That's right, you said, Taylor agreed
- 11:06Speaker 1: to Oh sorry.
- 11:06Speaker 3: Reggie agreed to play Taylor back two hundred fifty dollars
- 11:09Speaker 3: a month until.
- 11:09Speaker 1: He got paid.
- 11:10Speaker 3: Okay, okay, So he uh paid for two months and
- 11:15Speaker 3: then he stopped paying, so he wasn't five hundred dollars okay, okay.
- 11:20Speaker 3: So Taylor was fed up with this and just instead
- 11:25Speaker 3: of giving him five hundred of the one thousand dollars
- 11:28Speaker 3: that they made month three.
- 11:30Speaker 1: He just kept it, okay, And uh.
- 11:35Speaker 3: So Reggie is paying for is is suing for that
- 11:39Speaker 3: five hundred dollars that he just kept.
- 11:41Speaker 1: That's exactly right, that's exactly right.
- 11:44Speaker 3: So they're basically Reggie's like, I do owe him money.
- 11:49Speaker 3: I was paying and so I don't know what you
- 11:53Speaker 3: want me to do about this, and Taylor's like, well,
- 11:56Speaker 3: it just it made more sense to me to just
- 11:57Speaker 3: withhold it and then we can, you know, move full word,
- 12:00Speaker 3: because now I've I've got my money back.
- 12:03Speaker 1: I took it, took it out of the business. Yes, yes,
- 12:05Speaker 1: that's exactly. That's exactly would be.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Like if you owe me five hundred dollars and I
- 12:09Speaker 2: just it was like a fifty to fifty minus five
- 12:11Speaker 2: hundred dollars, yes, and I just took it.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Yes, Yeah, you can't do that. That's exactly. That's what
- 12:16Speaker 1: we have contracts and stuff that contracted.
- 12:21Speaker 3: They were because it's like they're basically just selling toys
- 12:24Speaker 3: and they're splitting the profits fifty to fifty.
- 12:27Speaker 1: You know, it's not like, you.
- 12:28Speaker 3: Know, they're not salary, they're not paying each other the
- 12:31Speaker 3: same amount, they're not holding anything in the business. It's
- 12:33Speaker 3: just whatever we make, we split it right down the middle.
- 12:35Speaker 3: And so Taylor decided that he's gonna just be but
- 12:38Speaker 3: he was paying.
- 12:39Speaker 1: He was paying, but he missed a month.
- 12:42Speaker 2: And then he So this is tricky because if they're
- 12:45Speaker 2: just taking the cash and split in the fifty to fifty,
- 12:48Speaker 2: but there's no written to green. Yes, Taylor Hicks cannot
- 12:51Speaker 2: just decide how he's getting paid.
- 12:53Speaker 1: The Soul Patrol needs a captain. You can't do that.
- 12:58Speaker 1: You gotta know. You got to give the d back
- 13:00Speaker 1: is five.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Hundred dollars back in order for him to make payments
- 13:03Speaker 2: in the manner that he wants to make them. Judge
- 13:05Speaker 2: Ross is right, rule, Yeah, yeah, yah, yeah, that's what
- 13:08Speaker 2: I was gonna say.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Jude Ross is ready to rule.
- 13:09Speaker 3: Judge Ross says, the gabble has to fall in favor
- 13:12Speaker 3: of the plaintiff.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Yeah, you have to. That's right, exactly what you thought.
- 13:17Speaker 3: He's like, you have to give him his five hundred dollars.
- 13:19Speaker 3: And then here's what you do, Taylor. You sue him, Yes,
- 13:23Speaker 3: for the amount of money. You should the countersuit. You
- 13:26Speaker 3: didn't do that, but he hasn't. He didn't he's not
- 13:30Speaker 3: paying you, so you can't sue him and get your
- 13:32Speaker 3: money back.
- 13:32Speaker 1: But in this case, you can't just.
- 13:35Speaker 3: Decide as fifty to fifty owners to just withhold money.
- 13:39Speaker 1: You can't do it? Can you do it? And there's
- 13:41Speaker 1: your case's case this week, A quick one this week?
- 13:44Speaker 1: And what can you do?
- 13:45Speaker 2: Sometimes you do sometimes the way that's the gooy the
- 13:47Speaker 2: gavel crumbs, the way the gavel crumbles is exactly right.
- 13:49Speaker 1: But come on back next week. Let's see what happens.
- 13:51Speaker 1: I love that for us. Until then, All.
