- 0:06Speaker 1: All right, Hello and welcome back to Twin City's Territory,
- 0:10Speaker 1: our Minnesota Twins podcast here on the Foul Territory Network.
- 0:14Speaker 1: I am Zach Pierce, the Athletics NASCAR editor here for
- 0:18Speaker 1: some reason, alongside as always Dan Hayes and Tyler Duffy.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Dan is the Minnesota Twins beat writer for the Athletic, Tyler,
- 0:26Speaker 1: of course, a longtime Major leaguer and Minnesota Twins guys.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Welcome back for members of the four point three percent club.
- 0:34Speaker 1: As we are, it's an uplifting podcast today. The Twins
- 0:38Speaker 1: coming off two wins over the Tigers to start this
- 0:41Speaker 1: four game series, most notably Tuesday night, beating Trek Scooble,
- 0:45Speaker 1: the two time defending Cy Young Award winner. So a
- 0:49Speaker 1: great start in Dan Hayes, you were there along with
- 0:51Speaker 1: five hundred or so other people. Curious what you took
- 0:55Speaker 1: away from from this solid start to the series.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Hey, there were like there were a thousand and Hey,
- 1:02Speaker 2: kudos to everybody in that ballpark the last two nights
- 1:04Speaker 2: because that weather is miserable. We were joking with Derek
- 1:10Speaker 2: Shelton before the game that we're going to open the
- 1:11Speaker 2: press box for one inning that did not happen that
- 1:15Speaker 2: was never going to happen. I sat downstairs for a
- 1:17Speaker 2: VP on Monday and it was like, just I'm glad
- 1:21Speaker 2: I sat on the bench for BP. It was awful. Anyways,
- 1:24Speaker 2: enough of that, but look, I think there's a good fight.
- 1:27Speaker 2: I think that we've seen good fight from this team
- 1:30Speaker 2: in most of their games. It's nice to see it
- 1:33Speaker 2: be rewarded like the last two nights. There's a lot
- 1:36Speaker 2: of standout performances over those last two nights to get
- 1:39Speaker 2: into that we'll talk about later. But I think there's
- 1:42Speaker 2: more that's here then people maybe give it a credit
- 1:46Speaker 2: for We've talked about payroll a bunch. It doesn't mean
- 1:50Speaker 2: that the Twins don't have some talent mixed in and
- 1:54Speaker 2: that there's not enough to get some nice victories like this.
- 1:58Speaker 2: There's plenty of young town. It's trying to find itself
- 2:01Speaker 2: on the field right now, and we've seen it like
- 2:04Speaker 2: those guys step up the last couple of days, and
- 2:06Speaker 2: what a difference it makes when you have a Taj Bradley,
- 2:08Speaker 2: when you have Luke Keishall going with the offense, and
- 2:13Speaker 2: I you know, it's just cool to see them get
- 2:16Speaker 2: rewarded because I hate the the effort was there. But
- 2:20Speaker 2: I mean, like this team has been in a lot
- 2:22Speaker 2: of games and and here they are five and six
- 2:26Speaker 2: and it's a lot better than three and eight or
- 2:29Speaker 2: two and nine, and maybe where people thought they'd be.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Yea, being close to five hundred goes a long way.
- 2:36Speaker 1: I mean, you can right a wave of all year,
- 2:39Speaker 1: you know. And like you said, it's having guys kind
- 2:42Speaker 1: of get their feet under him and get rolling. You have,
- 2:44Speaker 1: like said Keishall, I keep seeing Buston that catches the
- 2:48Speaker 1: track if he made like that's stuff has to happen.
- 2:52Speaker 1: But things, once you get started depending on them, that's
- 2:55Speaker 1: when stuff starts rolling. You know. It's no one TODs
- 2:58Speaker 1: Brattle's going to roll out of bed and he's gonna
- 3:00Speaker 1: give you six strong. You know. It's stuff like that
- 3:03Speaker 1: over the course of the season, where you show up
- 3:05Speaker 1: to the ballpark as a a leiever or as a
- 3:07Speaker 1: position guy, like a little more, little less stress going
- 3:11Speaker 1: into your day knowing you know, at the time, for me,
- 3:13Speaker 1: it was like Jose Berrios when he was rolling, it
- 3:16Speaker 1: was like, all right, he's going seven to night. I'm
- 3:18Speaker 1: going to thirty eighth. Roger soon throw the ninth you know,
- 3:20Speaker 1: and that was just kind of the way it went.
- 3:23Speaker 1: And so it's a settling in. You know, it's a
- 3:26Speaker 1: comforting thing. No on, I'm sure for the coaches too,
- 3:29Speaker 1: for shelting though, I'm like, all right, I got a
- 3:31Speaker 1: guy to go on, you know, leaving off for pitching
- 3:33Speaker 1: that I can just know that this is going to
- 3:35Speaker 1: work today and not think twice about and hovering around
- 3:39Speaker 1: five hundred, Tyler in a division where low eighties I
- 3:45Speaker 1: might do it is is certainly it's certainly a little
- 3:47Speaker 1: bit more uplifting too. And like I can imagine, yes,
- 3:50Speaker 1: when you have starting pitching like the Twins that had
- 3:52Speaker 1: so far from the top end guys, that's that's a
- 3:55Speaker 1: that's a huge benefit. Also, Tyler, you are the podcast
- 3:59Speaker 1: number Onejosh Bell fan who yeah, had himself game but
- 4:03Speaker 1: yeah Texas boy. Yeah, I mean it's you know, like
- 4:06Speaker 1: we talked about, he's got ten years in the big
- 4:08Speaker 1: leagues or whatever it is, and you know, he's he's
- 4:11Speaker 1: guy's got talent, he can hit, He's seen enough to
- 4:14Speaker 1: know what not to do at the wrong time. You know,
- 4:17Speaker 1: you hear all these guys talking about him in post game.
- 4:19Speaker 1: It's you know, Josh Bell said this or this or this,
- 4:21Speaker 1: and you know it's one of those guys. They probably
- 4:23Speaker 1: brought him in just to be a good vet. And
- 4:26Speaker 1: he is hitting every nail on the head right now.
- 4:29Speaker 1: You know, you switch hit or with some thump. Like
- 4:31Speaker 1: I said before, if he gets hot, he can kind
- 4:34Speaker 1: of make guys comfortable, you know, saying as tas you know,
- 4:37Speaker 1: doing his thing for the bullpen. You know, things like that.
- 4:39Speaker 1: It's like things can settle in when you have some
- 4:42Speaker 1: sort of stability, you know. And as the weather gets up,
- 4:46Speaker 1: guys tend to get going a little more, and you know,
- 4:48Speaker 1: we'll try and ride the wave while he's on it. Dan,
- 4:53Speaker 1: it was it was very cold again, right, How cold
- 4:55Speaker 1: was it yesterday?
- 4:57Speaker 2: Yesterday was actually like forty four, but the wind show
- 5:01Speaker 2: was thirty seven. The day before the wind show was
- 5:03Speaker 2: twenty seven. Yeah, it's been cold, you know what we
- 5:08Speaker 2: can go with. It's been but ass cold out there.
- 5:11Speaker 2: At the last.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Bris our last show was recorded prior to the Monday
- 5:20Speaker 1: night baseball intro that kind of made a little buzz
- 5:24Speaker 1: on the internet with a drone camera or whatever, wire
- 5:27Speaker 1: cam whatever it's called, Yeah, showing a very empty stadium
- 5:32Speaker 1: and then of course the fight began online. Is it
- 5:35Speaker 1: the weather? Is it that? Oh it hates the poll
- 5:38Speaker 1: Aut family, which I know Dan is your favorite topic
- 5:40Speaker 1: to talk about.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, definitely. It's funny how little I spend on
- 5:46Speaker 2: social media now responding to things because it's just so
- 5:51Speaker 2: ugly out there, and that debate is right at the
- 5:54Speaker 2: But we have this debate every year in April. I mean, look,
- 5:57Speaker 2: there's no question that fans are down the team, and
- 6:01Speaker 2: there were a paltry number there on Monday, you know,
- 6:06Speaker 2: like there there was more of a buzz last night
- 6:08Speaker 2: those fans on Monday night. There was one group of
- 6:11Speaker 2: I don't know, they looked like they were about twenty one.
- 6:14Speaker 2: They had a suite. I think they showed them on
- 6:16Speaker 2: the scoreboard a few times, these eight to ten dudes
- 6:19Speaker 2: and may have only been six to eight guys, but
- 6:22Speaker 2: they were definitely having fun and staying warm through liquid courage.
- 6:27Speaker 2: But they were loud and it was just it was funny.
- 6:31Speaker 2: But TODG. Bradley got a nice ovation that you wouldn't
- 6:35Speaker 2: have expected as much noise as there was last night
- 6:38Speaker 2: seeing the group that was there as far as the fans,
- 6:41Speaker 2: But April is always this way it's always empty. We
- 6:44Speaker 2: always have this. It'll go upon awful announcing or something,
- 6:47Speaker 2: they'll show shots of just full sections of the stadium empty.
- 6:52Speaker 2: That's how it always is in April. This one's gonna
- 6:56Speaker 2: be even Let's see how long that extent is, because
- 7:00Speaker 2: I do expect there will be fewer fans in the
- 7:03Speaker 2: seats this year. I just that's just how it's going
- 7:05Speaker 2: to be. But I don't really look at attendants until
- 7:10Speaker 2: we get to those first couple of weekends when the
- 7:13Speaker 2: weather turns because school's in. That's something that every team
- 7:16Speaker 2: deals with. That's why nobody wants to be home at April.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Not no single team, even the good weather teams, they
- 7:22Speaker 2: don't want the April games because kids are in school
- 7:25Speaker 2: and that natural crowd, the crowd, the exact that you represent,
- 7:29Speaker 2: the bring the kids out when it's like nice weather
- 7:32Speaker 2: and like just take the kids to the game. No
- 7:35Speaker 2: team wants April games typically, like the attendance is down.
- 7:39Speaker 2: So that said, there's not a lot of butts in
- 7:43Speaker 2: the seats. The announce the figures that we've heard are announced,
- 7:47Speaker 2: tickets distributed, and there was like twelve, six hundred and
- 7:51Speaker 2: seventy and then twelve, three hundred and forty one. That
- 7:54Speaker 2: if that's the bottom number, if that's the floor, that
- 7:59Speaker 2: is higher than last floor. But that means, just my guesses,
- 8:03Speaker 2: that means the Twins sold a lot of those Twins
- 8:05Speaker 2: passes that you know, like maybe more than they have
- 8:09Speaker 2: in the past, because like, yeah, it's gonna be interesting.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Let's just say that the attendance will be something we
- 8:17Speaker 2: monitor all year.
- 8:19Speaker 3: With over thirty five million downloads. What is the number
- 8:23Speaker 3: one rated ticketing app, todd Father.
- 8:25Speaker 4: It's simple, man, see Geek. As we know, man, they
- 8:28Speaker 4: have a lot of things that helps you out along
- 8:30Speaker 4: the way. They have green dots meaning good and red
- 8:33Speaker 4: dots meaning bad. And it's on a scale of one
- 8:34Speaker 4: to ten showing you, Scott, how good the seats are.
- 8:38Speaker 4: And sometimes you want to sit in the nosebleeders, sometimes
- 8:40Speaker 4: you want to sit in really good seats and Scott,
- 8:42Speaker 4: you know the code.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Right, yeah? I do.
- 8:43Speaker 3: And also I know that you always like a good deal.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Oh, so Seek.
- 8:46Speaker 3: Helps you out all the time with that. They also
- 8:48Speaker 3: help you out with the exclusive FT code which is
- 8:52Speaker 3: Territory ten for ten percent off your next set of
- 8:55Speaker 3: tickets at Sea Geek. That's ten percent off any tickets
- 8:58Speaker 3: with promo code t E R R I R Y
- 9:02Speaker 3: one zero. Make sure you click the link in the
- 9:04Speaker 3: description to download the app and you can have that
- 9:06Speaker 3: code automatically added to your account so that you can
- 9:08Speaker 3: use it later. There are regular season MLB games going
- 9:12Speaker 3: on right now. There are hot tickets across the country,
- 9:15Speaker 3: so make sure you go to seat geek. They will
- 9:17Speaker 3: take care of you.
- 9:20Speaker 1: I was going to ask why we can't you know,
- 9:22Speaker 1: there's like eighteen teams depending on your definition, that play
- 9:25Speaker 1: either in warmer areas or in domes or both. So
- 9:30Speaker 1: is that the reason why they can't just host all
- 9:32Speaker 1: the April games? Because nobody wants to host April games,
- 9:35Speaker 1: even if I.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Mean, yeah, that is that is a big driving factor
- 9:39Speaker 2: with teams, is that they know that there's just less
- 9:42Speaker 2: natural crowd in April, and also the weather is more
- 9:45Speaker 2: spotty in April, and like, yeah, it would be great
- 9:48Speaker 2: if the Twins open in Houston and then went to
- 9:53Speaker 2: San Diego and all those, but there's a solid request
- 9:58Speaker 2: from teams not to play too much at home in April.
- 10:02Speaker 1: All right, Well, there you have it. So we will
- 10:04Speaker 1: continue to debate pollad hatred or whether.
- 10:08Speaker 2: It's still strong. Come on. The Hope of Meter says it.
- 10:10Speaker 2: And by the way, it was really funny the one
- 10:12Speaker 2: thing I did go online last night and I did
- 10:15Speaker 2: look and it was funny because those four point three
- 10:17Speaker 2: percenters were like, if you're not in the four point
- 10:19Speaker 2: three percent, you can't enjoy this quite as much.
- 10:22Speaker 1: True. So, I mean, it just takes contention, right if
- 10:26Speaker 1: they're contending in August and September, like for real, right,
- 10:30Speaker 1: the fans will be there. Maybe not every game, but
- 10:33Speaker 1: that's what it'll take. And maybe not everybody will come back,
- 10:37Speaker 1: but I imagine, right.
- 10:38Speaker 2: I bet we'll still only be at sixty percent of
- 10:40Speaker 2: everybody coming back. To be honest, I do think it's real.
- 10:46Speaker 2: I mean, I do think it's real. I do think
- 10:48Speaker 2: the fan anger is real, and I'm definitely not downplaying
- 10:53Speaker 2: it at all because you can sense it everywhere. It
- 10:56Speaker 2: was a miserable off season for that reason, so it
- 11:00Speaker 2: is very real. And I don't think some people will
- 11:02Speaker 2: come back till the pull AADs are gone, but there
- 11:06Speaker 2: will if this team contends, like if they play the
- 11:09Speaker 2: way they have, there will be fans out there because
- 11:12Speaker 2: it is an enjoyable team more than maybe people wanted
- 11:16Speaker 2: to give a credit for.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Back to the Game's a big one yesterday, as we
- 11:23Speaker 1: mentioned as the Twins took down Trek Scouble and the
- 11:26Speaker 1: Tigers two time defending Cy Young winner, and a big
- 11:29Speaker 1: game for Tag Bradley as well. By the way, but
- 11:31Speaker 1: if you if you notice we've added fancy graphics to
- 11:34Speaker 1: the podcast. That is because Dan Hayes is no longer
- 11:37Speaker 1: running the podcast. Yes, so please please send any feedback
- 11:43Speaker 1: our way as we play around with m's possible here
- 11:46Speaker 1: anyway toaj Bradley, another strong outing six point one any
- 11:50Speaker 1: why do I say six point one? Six and the
- 11:52Speaker 1: third innings pitched ten strikeouts, one run loud and an
- 11:55Speaker 1: outdueled the best pitcher in the game and the team
- 11:58Speaker 1: that can't hit lefty pitchers. Guys decided to go in
- 12:01Speaker 1: and do it against the best picture in the game. Yeah, yeah, man,
- 12:05Speaker 1: But I mean we're texting last night. You know there's
- 12:09Speaker 1: those teams sometimes that can just get to starters, you know, mine,
- 12:14Speaker 1: I remember vividly watching Chris Saale. You know, we were
- 12:16Speaker 1: talking about that. It's happening the other Daybody's whacking himself
- 12:19Speaker 1: with the baseball in the first inning and you know,
- 12:22Speaker 1: one year the Twins just had his number.
- 12:23Speaker 5: And you know maybe this year, I'd say two years,
- 12:27Speaker 5: two years, two years, sixteen.
- 12:30Speaker 1: And that one. But yeah, sometimes you just got a guy,
- 12:34Speaker 1: you know, and the and the beauty of that is
- 12:36Speaker 1: if you do, whether it's real or not, every time
- 12:40Speaker 1: you come into town and match up with him, he's
- 12:42Speaker 1: going to be thinking about this game now, you know,
- 12:44Speaker 1: and it's it may make him angry, but that may
- 12:46Speaker 1: also backfire for him, you know. And it's just one
- 12:49Speaker 1: it's a huge lift for the team to go and
- 12:51Speaker 1: beat that guy. We just wanted to sey young. That's
- 12:53Speaker 1: a team we're gonna play all year, Like, that's a
- 12:55Speaker 1: big one to get out of the way early and
- 12:57Speaker 1: know like, hey, this isn't you know some odd we're facing.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Like yes, he's very good, but he can't be beaten.
- 13:03Speaker 1: And you know, I'm just limit the mistakes and put
- 13:06Speaker 1: up a couple of runs. You never know what's gonna happen.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Yeah, it's h It is a very good win. And
- 13:13Speaker 2: just to tell you, over the last three years, going
- 13:17Speaker 2: into last night, Scooble was four and one two thirty
- 13:20Speaker 2: nine y RA, fifty strikeouts and thirteen walks against the
- 13:24Speaker 2: Twins in forty eight or forty nine innings. They had
- 13:29Speaker 2: only one win there and it was three years ago
- 13:31Speaker 2: and I didn't even look that up, but I mean, like,
- 13:34Speaker 2: this is a confidence building win, without question, and he looked.
- 13:41Speaker 2: I think it's funny because early in the day we're
- 13:44Speaker 2: joking the press box. Triple A Saint Paul got a
- 13:47Speaker 2: hit in the ninth inning against Toledo to break up
- 13:50Speaker 2: a no hitter. Gabby Gonzalez parachuted a ball. They lost one, nothing,
- 13:54Speaker 2: and we were joking earlier in the day like, hey,
- 13:56Speaker 2: has a team ever, has an organization ever had it's
- 13:59Speaker 2: Triple A and it's major league team no hit by
- 14:02Speaker 2: the same other organization on the same day, because you know,
- 14:06Speaker 2: that's just how And by the way, those school numbers
- 14:09Speaker 2: aren't amazing, like against the Twins, those aren't like those
- 14:12Speaker 2: are those are just what he is, right, They're not
- 14:14Speaker 2: super electric, they're not like justin Verlanders hold over the
- 14:18Speaker 2: Twins for twenty years that you know he's always had.
- 14:23Speaker 2: They're really really damn good, but like it's not like
- 14:27Speaker 2: he becomes a lead against them. We saw one performance
- 14:29Speaker 2: last summer in Detroit in June on Sunday Night baseball
- 14:34Speaker 2: where the Twins had no chance that that was one
- 14:37Speaker 2: of those days. I think this is a good stepping stone,
- 14:40Speaker 2: but even more so for Toaj Bradley. Toash Bradley had
- 14:46Speaker 2: the rough first inning in Baltimore but got through it
- 14:48Speaker 2: and then pitched four and a third and was really
- 14:50Speaker 2: good the rest of the way. He pitched, really I thought,
- 14:54Speaker 2: very inspired baseball in Kansas City on when Thursday and
- 14:58Speaker 2: got six innings and got the win. But this was
- 15:01Speaker 2: even more of a step forward. This was Detroit. You
- 15:04Speaker 2: have no shot. His fastball wasn't as good as it
- 15:08Speaker 2: has been, like it topped out in ninety eight, but
- 15:10Speaker 2: his command was a little spotty with it last night,
- 15:12Speaker 2: and you could see that they were getting some hits
- 15:13Speaker 2: off of it. And what the problem was last year
- 15:16Speaker 2: when he came over was when the fastball was not great,
- 15:20Speaker 2: he didn't have the secondary to pair with it because
- 15:23Speaker 2: he had lost field for a splitter. And he talked
- 15:25Speaker 2: about that after the game last night, saying, you know,
- 15:27Speaker 2: you wonder if it's gonna come back. You spend time
- 15:30Speaker 2: thinking about that. He worked crazily on it, crazily on
- 15:34Speaker 2: it this offseason, trying to find that grip again. And
- 15:37Speaker 2: he found it, and you know, I mean they were
- 15:39Speaker 2: doing metrics dives, they were doing everything they could last
- 15:42Speaker 2: year to find it and it was just gone. But
- 15:44Speaker 2: when it's there and you compare it with the curve
- 15:46Speaker 2: and a cutter, he had fifteen swings and misses last
- 15:50Speaker 2: night and his one hundred and four pitches. One was
- 15:53Speaker 2: with the fastball. We've had some starts from him where
- 15:55Speaker 2: eight or nine are from the fastball. He had fourteen
- 15:57Speaker 2: between the split got nine the and I wrote about
- 16:02Speaker 2: that today at the Athletic pretty heavily. The split got
- 16:04Speaker 2: nine in the curve and the cutter got him another
- 16:06Speaker 2: five combined. So he got fourteen of his swings and
- 16:10Speaker 2: misses on fifty six off speed pitches and one on
- 16:13Speaker 2: a fastball. For him to do that, that's a great
- 16:15Speaker 2: blueprint for success. When you don't have your best stuff
- 16:19Speaker 2: with one pitch, you can rely on others. And oh,
- 16:23Speaker 2: by the way, his others. I mean you can speak
- 16:25Speaker 2: to this tyler that pitch quality that he has across
- 16:28Speaker 2: the board, like, yeah, I don't think it's a joke
- 16:30Speaker 2: When Ryan Jeffers says that there's a guy that has
- 16:33Speaker 2: clear ace potential in him just because those other pitches too.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Yeah, no, out of the gate he went, I think
- 16:39Speaker 1: first pitch the game, like ninety seven or whatever, and
- 16:41Speaker 1: then let splitter splitter for the punch out, and like
- 16:45Speaker 1: I can't remember who let off, but they weren't near
- 16:47Speaker 1: any of them, And it was like, well, that's that's
- 16:50Speaker 1: how you want to start a baseball game, you know.
- 16:52Speaker 1: And it's like you said, it's he is electric with
- 16:56Speaker 1: his fastball alone, but then having multiple other offerings that
- 16:59Speaker 1: are like legit pitches, like it makes going out to
- 17:03Speaker 1: start every fifth day a lot more fun than you know,
- 17:06Speaker 1: going out there hoping to throw some smoking mirrors at
- 17:09Speaker 1: some people and get some outs. You know, it's it's
- 17:11Speaker 1: here comes and you're not gonna hit it. You know,
- 17:13Speaker 1: there's there's nothing better that He wasn't exactly I should
- 17:19Speaker 1: say this wasn't necessarily a surprise. I think a lot
- 17:21Speaker 1: of people saw the good things coming from Bradley this season.
- 17:24Speaker 1: But even still, Tyler like, how big a boost is
- 17:27Speaker 1: that to a team when when expectations are met in
- 17:30Speaker 1: a way like that to kind of help bolster It's huge, Asian,
- 17:33Speaker 1: it's huge. It's you know, like I said Shelty. I know,
- 17:37Speaker 1: I'm sure he's taking a good temperature.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Of that room.
- 17:39Speaker 1: You know, he's got his coaches working at doing that
- 17:41Speaker 1: as well.
- 17:41Speaker 2: I'm sure.
- 17:42Speaker 1: But it's one you know, like I said, it's a
- 17:44Speaker 1: team we're going to face the rest of the year.
- 17:46Speaker 1: It's going to be a team that wants to be
- 17:48Speaker 1: in the playoffs. They were in the playoffs. You know,
- 17:50Speaker 1: they're they've made moves. We get to see Framberg go
- 17:52Speaker 1: for them tonight, like that's a big piece they added,
- 17:55Speaker 1: Like this is a team no matter what, they're going
- 17:57Speaker 1: to be coming down the other end of the road.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Then you're gonna have to get through them at some point.
- 18:02Speaker 1: So you might as well. You know, I had just
- 18:04Speaker 1: circled last year kind of as a gut check series,
- 18:07Speaker 1: like these are guys you're gonna have to be so
- 18:09Speaker 1: you might as well do it now and figure out
- 18:12Speaker 1: what you're gonna be able to maintain and you know,
- 18:15Speaker 1: take notes on this series, you know, figure out if
- 18:17Speaker 1: something goes wrong, you know, for each guy like hey,
- 18:20Speaker 1: so and so got me here, you know, or this
- 18:22Speaker 1: guy took an extra bag or whatever. It is, like
- 18:25Speaker 1: this is where that stuff starts to add up. And
- 18:27Speaker 1: you know, when you're gonna be the team without the
- 18:29Speaker 1: ten Hall Stars in your lineup, you got to take
- 18:32Speaker 1: every little advantage you get and and run with it.
- 18:35Speaker 1: And so I think, you know, this is a good
- 18:36Speaker 1: first two days. At least, it's a good start to
- 18:39Speaker 1: is Zach Just.
- 18:40Speaker 2: I want to know in your perspective, they trade the
- 18:42Speaker 2: Griffin Jackson to get this guy that when we talk
- 18:44Speaker 2: about the bullpen being torn down, you gave up your
- 18:48Speaker 2: second best reliever to get him, and just I imagine
- 18:52Speaker 2: on your end seeing something this tangible comeback has to
- 18:56Speaker 2: be nice when you when when you give up so
- 19:00Speaker 2: much between that bullpen at.
- 19:02Speaker 1: The end of the year, I didn't give up anything
- 19:04Speaker 1: Dan and the team did. But no, like as as
- 19:09Speaker 1: a Minnesota sports fan in general, very used to seeing
- 19:12Speaker 1: good players traded away for promise and it doesn't always
- 19:18Speaker 1: work out. So yeah, it's it's early yet, of course,
- 19:22Speaker 1: but it's uh. You know, this is what we talked
- 19:26Speaker 1: about on the first show and then your Your Kind
- 19:28Speaker 1: of Season preview article Dan on the Athletic about if
- 19:31Speaker 1: the if everything goes right, well, this was one of
- 19:33Speaker 1: those things that needed to go right for this team
- 19:36Speaker 1: to be interesting, especially with Pablo Lopez going down. So yeah,
- 19:41Speaker 1: you know, yes, the fan base will take it. I'm sure,
- 19:44Speaker 1: after all, it's here, and so well the Twins social
- 19:48Speaker 1: media account which decided to have some fun with the
- 19:54Speaker 1: team social media accounts. You know, God bless them. They
- 19:58Speaker 1: have to deal with all of the crap when the
- 20:01Speaker 1: team is bad and they're still trying to tweet through it.
- 20:04Speaker 1: So last night, you can't blame them for having a
- 20:05Speaker 1: little fun. They earlier in the day they had posted
- 20:09Speaker 1: the tweet on the on the right side of the
- 20:11Speaker 1: screen there pimping up the matchup between Schooball and Bradley
- 20:15Speaker 1: and then calling it a pitching duel. And then and
- 20:18Speaker 1: then they posted this sarcastic apology later when it was,
- 20:22Speaker 1: as they say, indeed not a pitching duel. It was.
- 20:24Speaker 1: It was pretty good for a while there, but certainly
- 20:28Speaker 1: the Twins had the last laugh against Schooble and then
- 20:31Speaker 1: the game. But a big reason why is because Luke Keishel,
- 20:37Speaker 1: who only had two hits the last two nights but
- 20:38Speaker 1: they were the biggest hit in each game, delivered again
- 20:41Speaker 1: so game winning home run on Monday to make it
- 20:45Speaker 1: five to three. Twins inventially one, seven to three, but
- 20:47Speaker 1: his homer kind of provided the winning margin. And then
- 20:50Speaker 1: Tuesday night Againstcooball, the Twins had had put two runners
- 20:53Speaker 1: on I believe in the second, third and fourth inning
- 20:55Speaker 1: and and not through and then Kishel finally in the
- 20:58Speaker 1: fifth inning delivered the hit with you on to get
- 21:00Speaker 1: the run. The rally started and what ended up being
- 21:04Speaker 1: a fore run inning. But guys, a huge breakthrough for
- 21:09Speaker 1: him so far in the season.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Yeah, he talking to him before the game Monday. I
- 21:19Speaker 2: wanted to gauge. I told you, guys, I think that
- 21:21Speaker 2: he maybe on the Monday show. I said, I thought
- 21:24Speaker 2: that he'd come off the field and gone straight to
- 21:27Speaker 2: the cage on Sunday because I saw him come in
- 21:30Speaker 2: about the same time we did. No, that was inaccurate.
- 21:33Speaker 2: Lukeishiel had taken a picture on the field with his
- 21:35Speaker 2: fiance and had a baseball bat with him, so well,
- 21:39Speaker 2: it was a little more fun than extra work in
- 21:42Speaker 2: the cages. But he so I went over there with
- 21:45Speaker 2: the premise of, hey, did you take some extra swings
- 21:47Speaker 2: after the game yesterday? And he's like, no. We're talking
- 21:49Speaker 2: after VP on Monday, and you could tell like I
- 21:53Speaker 2: was asking, like, look, this weather sucks. You guys had
- 21:58Speaker 2: in their first nine games had played it seven different
- 22:01Speaker 2: start times, so there's like no natural rhythm. This was
- 22:04Speaker 2: two games in a row at the same time, Monday
- 22:06Speaker 2: and Tuesday, six forty but they've had seven different start times,
- 22:10Speaker 2: which is just so weird. But it always happens at
- 22:12Speaker 2: the start of the year. And I was like, hey,
- 22:13Speaker 2: is that a problem. He said no, And I asked
- 22:16Speaker 2: about just cold weather in general and the rest of
- 22:20Speaker 2: the team, and like, it just became very clear he
- 22:23Speaker 2: is a mind over matter guy. He was like, I
- 22:26Speaker 2: don't make excuses. I don't like excuses, he said, talk
- 22:30Speaker 2: to me on game one sixty two, He's like, this
- 22:32Speaker 2: is nine games. And I totally went in understanding that
- 22:35Speaker 2: it's nine games and it's a wonky schedule. Early it
- 22:39Speaker 2: was like, you never take April into account. April historically
- 22:42Speaker 2: is the worst hitting month in baseball. But at the
- 22:45Speaker 2: same time, it was funny because he said he was
- 22:48Speaker 2: frustrated a little bit. How could you not be We'd
- 22:51Speaker 2: seen him just leg out every infield ground ball to
- 22:55Speaker 2: try and reach and you know, not be successful, and
- 22:59Speaker 2: so he he said, in spring I felt electric. I
- 23:02Speaker 2: was on firing on all cylinders. It's not happening right now,
- 23:05Speaker 2: but also not worried and I don't know suh. Derek
- 23:09Speaker 2: Shelton mentioned this the home run the other night, being
- 23:12Speaker 2: you know when you check that first off, how much
- 23:15Speaker 2: it can just mean because he had two walks that
- 23:19Speaker 2: night and the homer and then the single last night
- 23:22Speaker 2: was definitely just a huge breakthrough a moment against Scooble.
- 23:25Speaker 2: But but it does you know, does getting that first
- 23:29Speaker 2: big moment out of the way build some confidence for
- 23:32Speaker 2: young players? Is that something you've experienced stuff?
- 23:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it's for every guy, you know, even
- 23:38Speaker 1: the most tenured vet. I would sure that first time
- 23:42Speaker 1: running out onto the field, you know, that first step
- 23:44Speaker 1: at the whatever, that that what if moment still kind
- 23:48Speaker 1: of happens, you know, not that it's like, you know,
- 23:50Speaker 1: the most negative thing in the world, but it is like,
- 23:52Speaker 1: all right, I know what I'm capable of. I wanted
- 23:55Speaker 1: to happen when I wanted to happen. And you know,
- 23:57Speaker 1: I joke a lot about like the ball's not doing
- 24:00Speaker 1: what I'm telling it to kind of thing. When you're pitching,
- 24:02Speaker 1: you know, it's like finally you know the bat, the
- 24:04Speaker 1: bat starts listening, you know, the glove starts waking up,
- 24:07Speaker 1: you know, things like that, and it is it's a
- 24:09Speaker 1: you know, like you said this between the schedule, the weather,
- 24:13Speaker 1: the travel, you know, getting getting your life settled into
- 24:16Speaker 1: you know, like I mentioned the other day, these guys
- 24:18Speaker 1: are like trying to move into an apartment, like yeah,
- 24:22Speaker 1: setting up cable like that stuff. I like, these guys
- 24:26Speaker 1: without wives. I'm not sure how they maintained because I
- 24:29Speaker 1: would have just been living at the field, I think,
- 24:31Speaker 1: rather than setting up and dealing with people. You know.
- 24:34Speaker 1: So besides all of that, then you go play baseball,
- 24:38Speaker 1: you know, and getting that first hit out of the way,
- 24:39Speaker 1: the first homer, you know, that first punch out in
- 24:41Speaker 1: the big leverage spot. Like that's the stuff that you know. Now, okay,
- 24:45Speaker 1: we're ready to go, you know, and you look up
- 24:48Speaker 1: in a month's past and you know good things are happening. Yeah.
- 24:51Speaker 2: No, I think that attitude will benefit him very well.
- 24:55Speaker 2: I mean he just stands out as a ball player
- 24:57Speaker 2: to me, and every team needs a ball player, just
- 25:00Speaker 2: a guy that wants to be out there all the time.
- 25:02Speaker 2: They have that in Buckston too. There's no question to
- 25:05Speaker 2: have another guy like that on the position side where
- 25:08Speaker 2: they're going to be out there and they're fighting all
- 25:09Speaker 2: the time, and they just they if they're there.
- 25:13Speaker 1: He said, if I'm out there, I'm ready. I don't
- 25:15Speaker 1: care what the temperature is. My body is ready.
- 25:17Speaker 2: And that was that's good, good mindset to attack.
- 25:21Speaker 1: A miserable month of home games ahead. Absolutely of the
- 25:29Speaker 1: many question marks, uh surrounding this team, Well, there's my
- 25:33Speaker 1: first graphical mistake.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Oh man, wow, Zach, Yeah, all right, yeah, your war
- 25:39Speaker 2: is down.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Your minor blip will be all right. Yes, that's a
- 25:45Speaker 1: that's a rough one, struck out looking of the many
- 25:49Speaker 1: question marks surrounding this team this year, the bullpen was
- 25:52Speaker 1: probably the biggest couple of very strong games. And the
- 25:57Speaker 1: next graphic that I was trying to get up before,
- 26:00Speaker 1: has those stats for you? Six point two? I did
- 26:02Speaker 1: it again, six and two thirds innings pitched or it's
- 26:05Speaker 1: only one run allowed? What's that? Six point six to six?
- 26:10Speaker 1: Six point six repeating the Monday obviously a little more
- 26:16Speaker 1: cushion seven to three win, but I guess they had
- 26:19Speaker 1: a four run lead as well in on Tuesday too,
- 26:22Speaker 1: But either way, a solid encouraging game. A couple of
- 26:26Speaker 1: games for the Twins bullpen Dan.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Yeah, and with the exception of two, they've they've done
- 26:31Speaker 2: this the whole way. The overall group the area is
- 26:35Speaker 2: four three five. They've allowed twenty runs on the season,
- 26:39Speaker 2: or twenty earned runs on the season. Nine of those
- 26:42Speaker 2: came in the between the Mickabel Piggyback and then the
- 26:45Speaker 2: ugly weather game in Kansas City. I think that was
- 26:48Speaker 2: eight runs and nine innings take that away. And I
- 26:51Speaker 2: know going into yesterday before they allowed to run, it
- 26:53Speaker 2: was like two nine for the other games. I know
- 26:56Speaker 2: that doesn't count. I know your your reliever era shows all,
- 27:00Speaker 2: but I do think that like we've seen more out
- 27:03Speaker 2: of this group. I you know, there's there's definitely moxie,
- 27:07Speaker 2: there's there's a ways there like getting guys. I mean,
- 27:11Speaker 2: like you look at Taylor Rodgers and how many swings
- 27:13Speaker 2: and misses he's getting on not fastballs, on off speed stuff.
- 27:17Speaker 2: He's a totally reinvented pitcher. And that's that's a lot
- 27:20Speaker 2: of these guys. I like a lot what I've seen.
- 27:24Speaker 2: I think Cody Vunnerberk and Cody Aaron Glehman wrote a
- 27:27Speaker 2: stat the other day Cody Vronerberk's seven appearances in the
- 27:32Speaker 2: first ten games tied to twins record. Essentially, there's a
- 27:38Speaker 2: lot there that I like, Cole Sands has been good.
- 27:43Speaker 2: I still there's it's weird when you see it, like
- 27:46Speaker 2: last night justin Toeba got to save the night before
- 27:48Speaker 2: Cody Loris and got the save. There's not a guy
- 27:52Speaker 2: it's all being funneled to, which we shouldn't be surprised
- 27:54Speaker 2: at because they traded five guys. There's no Durand to
- 27:58Speaker 2: funnel it to. There's no Joe Nathan, there's no Actually,
- 28:02Speaker 2: you're your Penn in nineteen was like all three of
- 28:05Speaker 2: you guys were super talented and there was actually a
- 28:07Speaker 2: lot of hard throwing fastballs there between you, Rogers and May,
- 28:12Speaker 2: but there was no guy that was being funneled to.
- 28:15Speaker 2: Like you guys were all developing. There's similarities in that,
- 28:18Speaker 2: but but it's definitely something where it's definitely something it's
- 28:26Speaker 2: that was that was you pulling me off stage. That
- 28:29Speaker 2: was the guy with the cane pulling me off stage.
- 28:33Speaker 2: But I feel like you look at the group and
- 28:37Speaker 2: they're they're doing it, but there's part of me the
- 28:41Speaker 2: wonders how long they can do it for and because
- 28:44Speaker 2: just because there's not the guy, they're funneling it too.
- 28:46Speaker 2: That said, I really like what I've seen just collectively
- 28:50Speaker 2: because there is a lot of guys that can get out.
- 28:53Speaker 2: It's just not in the blow you away type manner.
- 28:58Speaker 1: So it is I kind of compared it in my
- 29:01Speaker 1: head at one point, which granted, you know, Trevor May was,
- 29:05Speaker 1: you know, on the road to throw in his hundred.
- 29:07Speaker 1: You know, Rodger started training it. We'd all trended in
- 29:09Speaker 1: bet a little bit. But for a minute there we
- 29:11Speaker 1: had kind of the funk factor out of the bultpen
- 29:14Speaker 1: where it's like, yeah, at the me kind of the
- 29:17Speaker 1: low slot, right, you had Trevor over the top, you
- 29:19Speaker 1: had Roger from the left side. You had like Hilldy
- 29:22Speaker 1: mixed in there. How we had Camember the other left eat,
- 29:25Speaker 1: but we had like different looks. So it's like, if
- 29:28Speaker 1: you're not gonna have just raw, here it comes stuff
- 29:32Speaker 1: you give guys that they can't keyhole anybody because it's
- 29:34Speaker 1: literally coming from a different slot every time, right, And
- 29:37Speaker 1: I think that if you're gonna do it, like that's
- 29:40Speaker 1: the way to do it other than just here comes
- 29:42Speaker 1: one hundred. Uh, yeah, and it works like it definitely,
- 29:47Speaker 1: especially like I used to think about it because I
- 29:49Speaker 1: followed them so many times, Like I would follow Urban,
- 29:52Speaker 1: Santana and Barrios out of the bullpen like I'd be
- 29:55Speaker 1: the fireman, first one out in some games. I'm like, guys,
- 29:59Speaker 1: I'm kind of like the w or down version of them,
- 30:01Speaker 1: Like could we put somebody else in the spot? You know,
- 30:03Speaker 1: IRV was ripping ninety seven one day with this, you know,
- 30:06Speaker 1: Slider Burryos is doing his thing. I'm like, they've kind
- 30:09Speaker 1: of seen this already, you know, but you know, you
- 30:11Speaker 1: just got to go in and do it. But to
- 30:12Speaker 1: that point, having the different look and being able to
- 30:15Speaker 1: mix it up, and there's definitely you know, the funk
- 30:18Speaker 1: factor with a few of those guys out there, and
- 30:20Speaker 1: I think that's gonna, you know, be able something that
- 30:22Speaker 1: can be maintained throughout the year, just mixing and match it.
- 30:26Speaker 2: I think of Cleveland's bullpens and they always, you know,
- 30:30Speaker 2: usually have one or two guys that can blow you away,
- 30:34Speaker 2: but then they have the Jeff or Jeff manships. Dan
- 30:38Speaker 2: Otero's like these guys they're like doing it and tricking you. Like,
- 30:43Speaker 2: I really like what I've seen from Eric Orsey so far,
- 30:46Speaker 2: and he gave up one of the runs last night,
- 30:50Speaker 2: but it was Kevin McGonagall hit a pitch that might
- 30:52Speaker 2: have been six inches off the plate. That was a
- 30:56Speaker 2: nasty pitch. Is the same as that Junior cam and
- 30:58Speaker 2: Arrow home run there to day where it's like, how
- 30:59Speaker 2: did this guy do that? It was a really good
- 31:02Speaker 2: piece of hitting. But Ors, he's had some nice moments
- 31:05Speaker 2: early on. And and Cody Funderburk, like I said, Bonda
- 31:09Speaker 2: has been fighting it the whole way. You can see it,
- 31:11Speaker 2: but he's still got a low era so far, and
- 31:14Speaker 2: kind of I feel like that's the kind of stuff
- 31:16Speaker 2: this group is going to have to get by on
- 31:18Speaker 2: is just moxie and and and getting like funk and
- 31:25Speaker 2: you know, LaTroy. Latroy's got his hands full, but I
- 31:28Speaker 2: think he's also got a solid group to work with
- 31:31Speaker 2: that just doesn't on paper blow people away. And so
- 31:33Speaker 2: I understand where skepticism comes from. That said, it would
- 31:37Speaker 2: be awesome to have you on Duran at the back
- 31:40Speaker 2: of the bullpen right now, so.
- 31:43Speaker 1: Being able to slam that door as an underrated thing
- 31:45Speaker 1: to have, and you know, it's a hopefully you know
- 31:48Speaker 1: at that point, like, hopefully it just keeps working out.
- 31:51Speaker 1: You know, it's you know, it's one you get to
- 31:54Speaker 1: get your three run lead or win by ten. It
- 31:56Speaker 1: doesn't matter how many win by. Like, we don't even
- 31:58Speaker 1: need to get said. It's just when the ball, you know,
- 32:00Speaker 1: it's blow somebody out.
- 32:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:04Speaker 1: We Uh, we keep meaning to get to this and
- 32:07Speaker 1: we forget or get caught up in other things. But
- 32:09Speaker 1: I don't want to forget today, So we're gonna call
- 32:12Speaker 1: this uh and sorry, those last two blips were because
- 32:15Speaker 1: I was trying to get too fancy. I apologize. I
- 32:17Speaker 1: will learn from my mistakes. Don't worry everybody, but we're
- 32:21Speaker 1: gonna call this story time with Tyler.
- 32:24Speaker 2: Uh.
- 32:25Speaker 1: Last week in Kansas City. Actually, Dan, why don't you
- 32:27Speaker 1: set the context here?
- 32:28Speaker 2: I yes, two things. One, what really was great about
- 32:34Speaker 2: that pitcher's duel tweet from the Twins? The the apologizing
- 32:38Speaker 2: is earlier in the week the Twins got in some
- 32:41Speaker 2: serious trouble they were on TMZ because last week we
- 32:47Speaker 2: didn't know it at the time. We didn't know it
- 32:49Speaker 2: when we recorded that Carter Jensen had overslept the Royals
- 32:53Speaker 2: Catcher and that's why Salve played in the game and
- 32:56Speaker 2: Salvey had that throwing air and it was Salve's third
- 32:59Speaker 2: day in a row, so we didn't know that it
- 33:02Speaker 2: was because he had overslept and like was like it
- 33:05Speaker 2: was a bad situation for him in the Royals, Like
- 33:08Speaker 2: but the Twins. Because opening day was the next day,
- 33:11Speaker 2: their social media team had this pre scheduled tweet of
- 33:15Speaker 2: an alarm clock saying wake up, it's opening day. And
- 33:20Speaker 2: I saw the receipts that the social media team sits
- 33:23Speaker 2: right behind us in the press box. I saw the receipts.
- 33:26Speaker 2: They literally planned that on February eighth. They were like, hey,
- 33:30Speaker 2: you know, it's opening day, so like, let's it's natural thing.
- 33:33Speaker 2: The timing of it is horrendous. It makes you go okay,
- 33:36Speaker 2: Also somebody yeah, well yeah, someone might have wanted to
- 33:40Speaker 2: catch that. Because you preschedule things on social media. I
- 33:43Speaker 2: understand that someone would have an edit, a last minute
- 33:48Speaker 2: check that might have been helpful. But they ended up
- 33:50Speaker 2: on TMZ for that, so they had to be They were.
- 33:53Speaker 2: They were contrite about it. They were pretty upset themselves
- 33:56Speaker 2: that they were getting called out for because it was
- 33:58Speaker 2: just a random idea they had an offseason and it
- 34:01Speaker 2: lined up with that moment. But Tyler, I believe that
- 34:05Speaker 2: you yourself, your is your clock on your phone? What's
- 34:10Speaker 2: your phone set to these days?
- 34:12Speaker 1: So military time only for my I got a you know,
- 34:15Speaker 1: like a lilttle garment watch in my phone, like it is,
- 34:17Speaker 1: you know, it's thirteen fifty five or whatever it is.
- 34:21Speaker 1: This is my first I think it was my first year.
- 34:24Speaker 1: I think it was because Tory was there and that's
- 34:26Speaker 1: why I was so terrified. So, you know, Tory, Hunter, Joe,
- 34:30Speaker 1: the whole creeze there. We're in Detroit, which not everybody knows,
- 34:35Speaker 1: but we don't stay downtown. We stay in Birmingham, which
- 34:38Speaker 1: is oh thirty minutes like pretty much, so it's not close.
- 34:44Speaker 1: So keep in mind this is twenty fifteen, so there
- 34:47Speaker 1: isn't you know, uber you can't just like call a ride.
- 34:51Speaker 1: So I wake up without alarm to see the bus
- 34:56Speaker 1: leaving from my wisdow. You know, you can hear the
- 34:58Speaker 1: kind of emotion outside. Kind of opened my eyes like okay,
- 35:01Speaker 1: it's it's not time yet. My alarm didn't go off.
- 35:04Speaker 1: Well the bus is leave it. So I proceed to
- 35:08Speaker 1: you know, full panic, you know panic, pack throw all
- 35:11Speaker 1: your just everything into a bag. You don't know what's
- 35:13Speaker 1: going on, razors buzzing in there, Like I don't care,
- 35:16Speaker 1: I have to leave, so run downstairs the bellman, which
- 35:20Speaker 1: they have. Luckily, I was like, hey, I need a
- 35:22Speaker 1: cab now, so poppas cat yellow cap. You know a
- 35:28Speaker 1: lot of people probably never taken on those sport watching this.
- 35:31Speaker 1: It's like I'm white knuckling in the backseat. I'm like,
- 35:34Speaker 1: please get there, Please get there. Thank god. Luckily the
- 35:38Speaker 1: bus is like right in front of me, so I'm like, hey,
- 35:40Speaker 1: just follow them and then we'll we get there. Just
- 35:44Speaker 1: hang back for a minute because I don't want them
- 35:46Speaker 1: to know that I wasn't on the bus. So, you know, luckily,
- 35:50Speaker 1: thank god, there's no I didn't like, I wasn't an
- 35:53Speaker 1: hour late or like had people calling worried about my
- 35:55Speaker 1: general health, which you know, glad, everyone's okay. You know,
- 35:59Speaker 1: I know Carter and it's like, you know, it's kind
- 36:01Speaker 1: of a tough deal for a rookie, but you know
- 36:02Speaker 1: you'll only do that once. So got in and you know, no,
- 36:06Speaker 1: sweet off in bad, you know, drenched through my dress clothes.
- 36:08Speaker 1: We had to wear suits back then too, so it's
- 36:10Speaker 1: a whole another layer but yeah, I made it to
- 36:13Speaker 1: the field, thank god, and kind of just got dressed
- 36:16Speaker 1: because I could got outside. It's like I wanted no
- 36:18Speaker 1: part of Anyone asked me where it was, what happened?
- 36:21Speaker 1: So yeah, from then on, I set a couple of alarms,
- 36:24Speaker 1: make sure it's on the right time, and if I'm
- 36:27Speaker 1: in a hotel, I will still call the front desk.
- 36:29Speaker 1: That is fortue.
- 36:30Speaker 2: Oh wow, Hey, one thing I've learned. One one trick
- 36:33Speaker 2: I've learned because I have overslept a few times. But
- 36:37Speaker 2: it doesn't matter for us nearly as much because our
- 36:39Speaker 2: bosses aren't there are there's no Paul Maltor. Uh my
- 36:43Speaker 2: editor is not on the field. Zack's at home with
- 36:45Speaker 2: his kids waiting for my story. He is not there.
- 36:50Speaker 2: But I put the I have it on vibrate on
- 36:53Speaker 2: the phone, and I put it on the bed now.
- 36:56Speaker 2: And there's no way I can sleep through the mattress
- 36:59Speaker 2: because you can hear the coils rumbling. Yeah, there's Have
- 37:04Speaker 2: you ever been in a hotel room where the AC
- 37:06Speaker 2: just non stop runs because it's so hot out that's
- 37:10Speaker 2: like louder if your rumble is on the night stand
- 37:13Speaker 2: next to you, I sleep through that all the time, Like,
- 37:16Speaker 2: so that happened to me. That happened to me on
- 37:18Speaker 2: the first day of spring training with White Sox coverage
- 37:21Speaker 2: one year, and the PR director had to call me
- 37:23Speaker 2: and be like, Dan, David Robertson's talking like twenty minutes
- 37:26Speaker 2: you need to be here. Where are you? And I'm like,
- 37:29Speaker 2: oh my goodness, So, uh yeah, I've it sucks for
- 37:34Speaker 2: the kid. He's hit two home runs since then. It
- 37:37Speaker 2: looks like it's pretty good player, and maybe it's good
- 37:39Speaker 2: the Twins missed him on Wednesday.
- 37:41Speaker 1: Yeah, so Tyler, there's like just enough people on the
- 37:44Speaker 1: bus that it's possible to not go to go unnoticed
- 37:47Speaker 1: if you're not off these mornings. Yeah, because it's earthly.
- 37:49Speaker 1: You know, it's like a day game. So you know,
- 37:51Speaker 1: you play a bunch of night games, especially again Detroit.
- 37:54Speaker 1: You get back later because it's a long bus ride
- 37:55Speaker 1: things like that, and those buses are like nine am normally.
- 37:59Speaker 1: There maybe like an eight thirty four coaches, but it's
- 38:01Speaker 1: a nine am player bus normally, and so it's like,
- 38:05Speaker 1: you know, me, I try to sleep as mush as
- 38:07Speaker 1: I can, So it's like send alarm break fifty, like
- 38:09Speaker 1: get up, go, So once I miss it, like all
- 38:13Speaker 1: bets are off and you know, it's uh, it was
- 38:16Speaker 1: one like thinking about it still kind of gets me
- 38:18Speaker 1: a little on cheer, but uh yeah, and it's still
- 38:23Speaker 1: you still miss buses. Like I said, Now, it's just
- 38:25Speaker 1: the beauty of it. It's like, oh, I can have
- 38:27Speaker 1: an uber here, you know, right in my own suburban
- 38:30Speaker 1: in three seconds, you know. But back then it was
- 38:33Speaker 1: literally call you a cab, you know, and it's uh,
- 38:36Speaker 1: you get to the field, you look at the other
- 38:37Speaker 1: young guys, you're like, oh my god, can you believe? Yeah,
- 38:40Speaker 1: it's just.
- 38:41Speaker 2: It's wait, how much time to how much time did
- 38:44Speaker 2: it take you to if you caught up to the bus.
- 38:47Speaker 2: And I know buses are slow, right, I get that,
- 38:50Speaker 2: But what I mean are we talking like did it
- 38:52Speaker 2: take you like six or like eight eight nine minutes
- 38:54Speaker 2: to get out of that room?
- 38:56Speaker 1: Made it's when that kind of adrenaline spike hits in.
- 39:00Speaker 1: It's like you don't know what's coming because this is
- 39:02Speaker 1: back when you know, hazing you could still like mess
- 39:04Speaker 1: with people a little bit, and so I was just petrified,
- 39:08Speaker 1: like what what's going to happen there? And luckily, like
- 39:10Speaker 1: Tory was incredible, Like Joe Mauer wasn't going to cut
- 39:13Speaker 1: my clothes up or anything, you know, so I wasn't
- 39:15Speaker 1: too concerned. But at the same time, I was like,
- 39:18Speaker 1: you know, Eddie Gordotto's bullpink coach. You know, he might
- 39:21Speaker 1: do something. It's a little a little less stable. So
- 39:26Speaker 1: but it was all great, you know. And I survived it,
- 39:28Speaker 1: you know, And now I will never be late, except
- 39:32Speaker 1: for when I take my kids to school.
- 39:35Speaker 2: I had one more story time with Tyler request here
- 39:37Speaker 2: because we I wrote, so Cody Lewis and when he
- 39:41Speaker 2: got to save their night, got a beer shower and
- 39:46Speaker 2: great effort from Cody Lewson, and and like came in
- 39:50Speaker 2: and got got out of the jam in the eighth
- 39:52Speaker 2: and got the two outs and then when Vic Cartini
- 39:55Speaker 2: got the two runs single to extend the lead to
- 39:58Speaker 2: seven to three, Cole sam got to sit down. Cole
- 40:01Speaker 2: Sands has worked at tany work two innings on Sunday,
- 40:04Speaker 2: So him getting to sit down huge deal. Loris and
- 40:06Speaker 2: gets to save afterwards, asked him because his hair looked,
- 40:11Speaker 2: you know, a little suspect and yeah, And I said,
- 40:17Speaker 2: did you get a beer shower? And he said yes,
- 40:20Speaker 2: And I so when I wrote it, I said beer
- 40:24Speaker 2: and other substances, and people freaked out on the internet,
- 40:28Speaker 2: and like a few guys freaked out on the internet,
- 40:31Speaker 2: and I said, well, look, I didn't want to ask
- 40:33Speaker 2: him everything that's in there, but can you give us
- 40:35Speaker 2: an idea of everything that's in there in a beer shower?
- 40:39Speaker 1: Yeah, it's what It kind of depends where you are,
- 40:42Speaker 1: and they happen on the road and you get kind
- 40:44Speaker 1: of whatever's in the bathroom. You know, it could be
- 40:47Speaker 1: things which I see again that's not helping the call.
- 40:51Speaker 6: Okay, Yeah, like hang out a second. There's lots of
- 40:55Speaker 6: there's a lot of soup. There's just endless supplies him
- 40:57Speaker 6: soap because there's you know, hundreds of people showering throughout
- 41:00Speaker 6: the course of the season. So you know, so things
- 41:03Speaker 6: like that at home. On the other hand, the kitchen
- 41:06Speaker 6: in Minnesota is very close to where the showers are,
- 41:11Speaker 6: a lot of easy access to.
- 41:12Speaker 1: Other products, and so I've seen like the big tubs
- 41:16Speaker 1: of mayo, like the gallon that you get at Costco,
- 41:20Speaker 1: mustard ketch up. I remember snow one time I think
- 41:24Speaker 1: he grabbed a bottle of like chocolate milk baby powder,
- 41:29Speaker 1: like just what it ends up doing. It just gets
- 41:32Speaker 1: caked on whoever the poor soul is at the bottom
- 41:35Speaker 1: of the pile, and it's just and the smell. Honestly,
- 41:38Speaker 1: I'm so because then it's like a steamy shower and
- 41:41Speaker 1: there's like mustard and like wooshchre sauce on the ground
- 41:44Speaker 1: and it's just like it smells like vomit. And but
- 41:47Speaker 1: it's still worth it because you want a game in
- 41:49Speaker 1: the Big League. So there's a it's the ultimate ride
- 41:52Speaker 1: of passage. And you know, then you get the The
- 41:54Speaker 1: baby powder is the worst because it ends up getting
- 41:56Speaker 1: at everyone's eyes and like you're breathing ast coughing. It's
- 42:00Speaker 1: just it's a but it's such a fun thing, man,
- 42:03Speaker 1: Like that's there's only one of those, and you get
- 42:05Speaker 1: to experience that with the group of guys you know that.
- 42:08Speaker 1: You know, I say it a lot the teams that
- 42:11Speaker 1: circulates so much that one group of guys may only
- 42:14Speaker 1: be together for that stretch, you know, and then those
- 42:17Speaker 1: faces will change from week to week. And so that's
- 42:20Speaker 1: a memory that go have forever. It's it's pretty cool.
- 42:23Speaker 5: He has a bull head of hair, He has a
- 42:25Speaker 5: bull he's got a big beard, like that is a
- 42:28Speaker 5: guy that that was not going to be an easy
- 42:31Speaker 5: he said. It took him a few extra minutes because
- 42:33Speaker 5: and I bet you had the shower again when we
- 42:35Speaker 5: got home found some.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Well you know that's like ketchup gets on you even
- 42:39Speaker 1: at dinner or something like you smell it the next morning,
- 42:41Speaker 1: you're you know, it's like on your finger. It's nothing. Yeah,
- 42:45Speaker 1: it's Chris Lean well like catching it all that's see
- 42:50Speaker 1: if you're just hitting it. But uh, I think we're
- 42:55Speaker 1: done here. We're not going to top that today, So
- 42:58Speaker 1: thank you for the story style. Two more games against
- 43:02Speaker 1: the Tigers. Wednesday night it's Bailey ober And against Franbur Valdez,
- 43:06Speaker 1: another tough one for the Twins, and then Thursday afternoon
- 43:09Speaker 1: to get away game Mick Abel and Jack Flaherty for
- 43:13Speaker 1: the Tigers. Twins have not won the series yet, but
- 43:17Speaker 1: they won't lose it for the first time this season.
- 43:20Speaker 1: Can't lose it split at worst. We'll see what happens,
- 43:22Speaker 1: and then they head on the road to Toronto on Friday,
- 43:25Speaker 1: which I believe is when we will be back with
- 43:28Speaker 1: you next. Thank you everybody for listening and watching. For
- 43:32Speaker 1: those of you on the podcast, version, you will never
- 43:34Speaker 1: know what I'm talking about with my technical errors, which
- 43:36Speaker 1: hopefully will be fixed by the next show, and we
- 43:39Speaker 1: look forward to seeing you next time. Please, if you
- 43:41Speaker 1: like what you heard, subscribe and listen again, and we'll
- 43:45Speaker 1: see you next time on Twin Cities Territory. Thanks everyone,
- 43:49Speaker 1: see it later, many thinking of as cover to
