- 0:16Speaker 1: And good morning, welcome to one on one with a
- 0:20Speaker 1: professional Nathan Tomson here pushing all the wrong buttons all
- 0:24Speaker 1: over the place for today, and of course it has
- 0:29Speaker 1: to be my interview premiere with Becky Gaily at Truity
- 0:33Speaker 1: Credit Union where I push all the wrong buttons and
- 0:36Speaker 1: all that great stuff.
- 0:37Speaker 2: It's okay, it's spring break, you know.
- 0:39Speaker 1: My brain is on spring break.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Yes, the weather is getting nicer, so we should be outside.
- 0:45Speaker 1: We should be outside, and it's not very warm here
- 0:49Speaker 1: in the studios fifty two degrees outside. It feels like
- 0:50Speaker 1: it's about forty two here in the studio today. But Becky,
- 0:55Speaker 1: you are the senior mortgage development Officer for Truity Credit Union,
- 0:59Speaker 1: and you guys do such a great job. I've been
- 1:02Speaker 1: a member of Truity since nineteen seventy seven nine sixty
- 1:07Speaker 1: six Federal Credit Union back in the day, and my
- 1:12Speaker 1: family started that little savings account for me right after
- 1:16Speaker 1: I was born. I love it, and it's been a
- 1:19Speaker 1: lifelong fan of all things Truity, even through the multiple
- 1:23Speaker 1: name changes and all of those different things. So again,
- 1:27Speaker 1: you know, Trudy is a great it's very well known
- 1:31Speaker 1: here in Bartlesville, and you know, you really kind of
- 1:36Speaker 1: are a one stop shop for all things financial, right.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Yeah. I love Truity just because most everybody that works
- 1:45Speaker 2: there lives here, lives close by. We're all active in
- 1:49Speaker 2: the community. We were just we just had a meeting
- 1:52Speaker 2: this morning and through the credit union wide, so all
- 1:56Speaker 2: of our branches, just in the month of February, our
- 1:59Speaker 2: employeoyees volunteered over one hundred hours in the community, which
- 2:04Speaker 2: I think is special that all of us, I mean, Kansas, Houston,
- 2:09Speaker 2: Bartlesville were all active in the community. It's important.
- 2:12Speaker 1: It really is important. And one thing that since since
- 2:16Speaker 1: you're founding, was it the nineteen fifties, is that right
- 2:19Speaker 1: before then, I think something like that. We're there whenever
- 2:23Speaker 1: a group of Phillips patroying company ladies came together, yes,
- 2:28Speaker 1: and made the decision to help out with a low
- 2:33Speaker 1: interest of financial services and that type of thing, and
- 2:36Speaker 1: just having a home grown financial institution that still to
- 2:42Speaker 1: this day takes care of members decades later. I mean,
- 2:47Speaker 1: just the legacy that Truity has here in this community.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Yeah, and just to take it to mortgages because that's
- 2:55Speaker 2: what I do. It's special too because with Truity, you
- 3:00Speaker 2: get your loan here like underwriters processing, all of it
- 3:04Speaker 2: is here in house. We're all on the same floor
- 3:07Speaker 2: in Bartlesville. We all work together, and so I just
- 3:10Speaker 2: think it makes the mortgage process more seamless and easier.
- 3:15Speaker 2: And you know, we're not like checkbox underwriters. You know,
- 3:19Speaker 2: we can we are common sense underwriters. You know, if
- 3:22Speaker 2: it makes sense, then we can do it. And also
- 3:25Speaker 2: after closing, so we retain the servicing. And what that
- 3:29Speaker 2: means is that you're always going to make your payments
- 3:31Speaker 2: to Truity. If you have questions about your mortgage, you're
- 3:35Speaker 2: always going to talk to somebody at Truity always.
- 3:38Speaker 1: You know, And that's that's an important distinction because you know,
- 3:42Speaker 1: you see all these things. Of course I'm not going
- 3:44Speaker 1: to name any you know, national competitors or anything like that,
- 3:47Speaker 1: but you know, easy do it all online. You know
- 3:51Speaker 1: that good stuff. And I mean that's fine. It makes
- 3:53Speaker 1: it makes it quick and easy to get a yes
- 3:56Speaker 1: or a no. And but you know, I think what
- 3:59Speaker 1: what what I'm attracted to more so is that relationship
- 4:05Speaker 1: that you're able to build with your banker, with your lender.
- 4:09Speaker 1: I mean, you are, you're involved in this community. You know,
- 4:12Speaker 1: an hours of community service that you were just talking about.
- 4:16Speaker 1: You're involved in the community, your kids are going to
- 4:19Speaker 1: school and in churches together. I mean, we really are.
- 4:26Speaker 1: I think it brings a better aspect of service. Yeah,
- 4:30Speaker 1: to those customers as well.
- 4:32Speaker 2: And trust. Yeah, whenever you see them in the community,
- 4:36Speaker 2: when you're eating at the restaurant next to them, you know,
- 4:38Speaker 2: it's like, oh, yeah, that's Becky. I just saw her
- 4:41Speaker 2: and she's taking care of my mortgage or my account
- 4:44Speaker 2: or whatever. It's just it's another level of trust in
- 4:48Speaker 2: this untrustworthy world we have.
- 4:51Speaker 1: That is very true. Again, we're talking with Becky Gaily,
- 4:54Speaker 1: Senior Mortgage and Development Offices there for Truity Credit Union
- 4:57Speaker 1: right here in town now, Becky. Right now, interest rates
- 5:03Speaker 1: have been kind of in flux and ye kind of
- 5:06Speaker 1: kind of all over the place definitely. So what what
- 5:11Speaker 1: are the are the best types of mortgage services that
- 5:15Speaker 1: you could be doing. It's now a time to get
- 5:17Speaker 1: into a new mortgage. Is now a time to refine
- 5:21Speaker 1: or just really keep a service that you have right now?
- 5:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's always a good time to invest
- 5:28Speaker 2: in real estate. Rates are still low. They are kind
- 5:32Speaker 2: of fluctuating with everything that's going on, but it's still
- 5:36Speaker 2: a good time to buy home always. I would never
- 5:39Speaker 2: shy away from that, of course, if it makes sense,
- 5:42Speaker 2: you know, but that's when you have your conversation with
- 5:45Speaker 2: your lender and the same with So the grass is
- 5:48Speaker 2: turning green right now, so it's warming up and all
- 5:51Speaker 2: the spring projects are getting high on your priority list,
- 5:55Speaker 2: So it might be good to talk about a home
- 5:57Speaker 2: equity line of credit or he lock that might be
- 6:00Speaker 2: something that would work for you, or even refinancing. I
- 6:04Speaker 2: don't mean it just depends if refinancing is the right time.
- 6:08Speaker 2: That would be a conversation that we could have to
- 6:11Speaker 2: go through all the numbers and sure.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Yeah, and first time home buyers, I know a lot
- 6:15Speaker 1: of the time they get so nervous about about making this,
- 6:20Speaker 1: you know, huge investment in their future. You know, what
- 6:27Speaker 1: kind of advice would you give if I were to
- 6:30Speaker 1: come into your office Becky and say, I am I'm nervous.
- 6:33Speaker 1: I know I kind of want a home, but what
- 6:37Speaker 1: do I need? You know, that one on one service
- 6:40Speaker 1: that you guys are able to offer. What would you
- 6:43Speaker 1: say to a first time homeowner or a first time borrower.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I would always encourage to use a local lender.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Always don't ever go to the online lenders because you
- 6:55Speaker 2: don't know them, and I don't know. I guess it
- 6:59Speaker 2: just makes it easier for me when you can see
- 7:01Speaker 2: them and talk to them on their cell phone in
- 7:04Speaker 2: the evenings, you know, and when there's so much information
- 7:09Speaker 2: around mortgage leans and it can get overwhelming. But if
- 7:12Speaker 2: you talk to somebody locally that can sit down with
- 7:15Speaker 2: you and explain the process and talk about what's right
- 7:19Speaker 2: for you, it makes it so much better. Just having
- 7:23Speaker 2: a conversation is your first step to see the down
- 7:28Speaker 2: payment requirements and your credit score and your debt ratios
- 7:31Speaker 2: and all of that the main things having an initial
- 7:35Speaker 2: conversation instead of just googling what do I need to
- 7:39Speaker 2: buy a home? Because that can get way overwhelming quick right.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Well, And I think a lot of folks don't understand
- 7:46Speaker 1: that the process behind everything, especially when you have a
- 7:49Speaker 1: locally based company like Truity. I mean, you have all
- 7:51Speaker 1: the connections with the local realtors, definite rokers, you know
- 7:56Speaker 1: what's hot in the market. We have those relations built in.
- 8:01Speaker 1: I mean brokers opens happen all the time. Yeah, where
- 8:04Speaker 1: you can come in and you were actually to see
- 8:07Speaker 1: a property itself. And you know, I know there is
- 8:09Speaker 1: a very important distinction between a realtor and a mortgage lender.
- 8:13Speaker 1: But you know, from what I have seen in this business,
- 8:18Speaker 1: you're going to assist on the financial side. When it
- 8:20Speaker 1: comes time for closing. You're going to be there with
- 8:24Speaker 1: muscle men or whomever it is that you to do
- 8:27Speaker 1: the abstract behind it. And you know it's just for you.
- 8:31Speaker 1: I'm sure. It's just a rewarding experience to see people
- 8:35Speaker 1: making that first time change.
- 8:37Speaker 2: One hundred percent. It's so fun to see young people
- 8:42Speaker 2: that have that are getting into their home, you know,
- 8:46Speaker 2: like I mean, buying a home is the biggest financial
- 8:49Speaker 2: decision of your life, absolutely, and being able to help
- 8:53Speaker 2: somebody do that is so rewarding, so special, it really is.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Becky Gaily, Senior mortgage Development Officer for Truity Credit Union. Becky,
- 9:01Speaker 1: how can somebody get in contact with you?
- 9:03Speaker 2: They can call me my numbers nine one, eight, three, three, seven, seven,
- 9:08Speaker 2: six two five. That's the best way.
