- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Whole Hearted Woman Podcast, a Christ-centered space where faith meets emotional healing and the quiet work of heart restoration.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: I'm Kristen Ray, and I'm really grateful you're here today.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Around here, we talk honestly about the places in life where our hearts have been shaped, sometimes by pain, sometimes by wounds, and how God gently restores us back into wholeness.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: This podcast is for the woman who loves God deeply but senses there is more, more healing, more freedom, and more life available in him.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: If you've ever felt like you were carrying wounds you didn't know how to name, or patterns you didn't know how to change, you're not alone.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: God cares deeply about the condition of our hearts.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: And today we're going to talk about something many women struggle with, boundaries.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Today we're going to talk about something many women struggle with, healthy boundaries.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: And if you're honest, this might be an area where you felt confused or even conflicted.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Maybe you've said yes when everything inside you felt like it should have been a no.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: Maybe you've carried responsibilities that were never really yours to carry.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Maybe you felt guilty for needing space from someone who has hurt you.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: And for many Christian women, the struggle can even feel deeper.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: Because somewhere along the way, we absorb the message that saying no makes us selfish, unkind, or even unchristian.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: But what if boundaries are not selfish?
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: What if boundaries are actually part of the wisdom God uses to protect the life he is forming within us?
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Jesus said in Matthew 5.37, let your yes be yes and your no be no.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: Those words sound simple, but living them out can be one of the most challenging things we learn to do.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: In our last episode, we talked about guarding the gates of the heart, learning to be mindful about what we allow to influence our inner world.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: And boundaries are one of the ways we live that out in real life.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: They help us discern what should be allowed through the gates of the heart and what should not.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: And when we look through scripture, something fascinating appears.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: Boundaries are not a modern concept.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: They are woven throughout the story of the Bible.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: In fact, we see this right at the beginning of creation.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: In Genesis, God separates light from darkness.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: He separates the waters from above the waters below.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: He separates land from sea.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: Creation itself is formed through separation and order.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Those separations were not restrictive, they were what made life possible.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: From the very beginning of Scripture, we see that God creates life through wise boundaries, and he invites us to live within that same wisdom.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: We see this again in the Garden of Eden.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: God created a place where Adam and Eve had everything they needed, a provision, a peace, relationship with Him.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Every tree in the garden was available to them except one.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: God established a boundary, not to restrict them, but to protect them.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: When that boundary was violated, God placed another boundary, guarding the entrance to the garden, so humanity would not live forever in a fallen state.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: Even that boundary was an act of mercy.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: From the very beginning of Scripture, we see God creates life through wise boundaries, and he invites us to live within that same wisdom.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: Have you ever felt like life became chaotic, overwhelming, or painful because boundaries were unclear?
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Maybe you've experienced what it feels like when too many expectations are placed on you.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: Maybe you felt responsible for keeping everyone else happy.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: Maybe you've struggled with saying no even when your heart was exhausted.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: If that resonates with you, you're not alone.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: We see this struggle even in the life of Moses.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: In Exodus 18, Moses was trying to carry the weight of his entire community by himself.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: People came to him all day long with their problems, disputes, and questions.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: From morning until evening, he was listening, solving, and carrying everyone else's burdens.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: Then his father-in-law, Jethro, watched what was happening and said something very important.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: He said, What you are doing is not good.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: You and these people will wear yourselves out.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: Jethro encouraged Moses to appoint others to help carry the responsibility.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: Moses had to learn something many of us struggled to learn.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: He could not carry everything himself.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: Sometimes boundaries are simply recognizing what God asked us to carry and what he did not.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: Maybe you can relate to that.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: Maybe you felt like the one everyone comes to, the one who solves problems, the one who carries the emotional weight of others.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: And slowly, without realizing it, you become responsible for more than God ever asked you to carry.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: We also see boundaries clearly in the life of Jesus.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: Jesus loved deeply, but he did not allow every demand, expectation, or request to determine his actions.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: There were times when he withdrew from the crowds to be alone with the Father.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: There were times when he walked away from environments that were not aligned with his mission.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: There was even a moment when the crowds tried to make him king by force and he withdrew from them.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: Jesus knew his purpose.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: His yes was yes, and his no was no, even when others wanted something different.
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: And sometimes that's where boundaries feel the hardest, because saying no can feel very uncomfortable, especially when people expect access to us, especially when these people are family, friends, or people we care deeply about.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: The Apostle Paul speaks about another important boundary principle in 2 Corinthians 10 13.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: He explains that God has given each of us a certain sphere or measure.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: In other words, each of us has areas of responsibility God has entrusted to us.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: But when we step outside that sphere and begin carrying what God never asked us to carry, we often begin to feel overwhelmed.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: Boundaries help us stay faithful to the responsibilities God has actually given us.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: And this is why boundaries matter.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: Boundaries are not barriers to love, they are wisdom that protects the life God is forming within us.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: They protect our peace, they protect our calling, they protect the healing God is doing in our hearts.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: Maybe the Holy Spirit is bringing something to your mind right now, a situation, a relationship, an expectation that has been weighing on you, not in condemnation, but in invitation.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: God may be inviting you to establish a boundary, not to push someone away, but to protect what he is doing in your heart.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: And if we follow God's lead, most of the time, I would say with God's lead, all the time, everything works out perfectly.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: As we walk through these past few episodes together, we've been looking at the heart, the place where so much of our life is formed.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: First we talked about how God restores the broken places of our hearts.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: Then we talked about guarding the gates of the heart, becoming aware of what we allow to influence our inner world.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: And today we've talked about boundaries, one of the ways we protect the work God is doing within us.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: From the very beginning of Scripture, we see that God creates life through wise boundaries, and he invites us to live within that same wisdom.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: When we learn to live within that wisdom, something beautiful begins to happen.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: We begin living from peace instead of pressure, from discernment instead of obligation, from alignment with God rather than expectations of everyone around us.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: And that is the kind of life God desires for his daughters.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: So I'd like to close with a prayer.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: Thank you for the way you restore our hearts, Lord.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: Thank you for teaching us how to guard the gates of our hearts and giving us wisdom to establish boundaries that protect the life you are forming within us.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: Help us walk in love and grace toward others, but also in wisdom and discernment.
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: Teach us to remain faithful to the responsibilities you have entrusted to us and to release the burdens that were never ours to carry.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: Give us discernment to see that.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: Guide us as we continue learning to live as women whose hearts are rooted in you.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: In Jesus' name, amen.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: If this episode resonated with you, I encourage you to follow or subscribe to the Whole Hearted Woman Podcast so you don't miss future conversations about healing, identity, and heart formation.
