Transcript
- 0:00You know, everything I do is just fun.
- 0:01I just I just go and try to have the most fun I can and it seems
- 0:04to be working out. Today on that car show, it's our
- 0:08pal Phil Morris. Phil's an LA based automotive
- 0:11enthusiast with both a 9/11 and AV10R8 in the garage, and he's a
- 0:16familiar face each Friday morning at Newcomb's ranch for
- 0:19good vibes. He's a familiar face, too, from
- 0:22film and television, and he, of course, played the iconic Jackie
- 0:25Chiles on Seinfeld. He shares what it was like
- 0:28growing up as the son of a famous Hollywood actor and
- 0:31forging his own fame in TV and movies.
- 0:34This one's real and it's spectacular.
- 0:37It's Phil Morris and it's that car show.
- 0:40Welcome to this week's episode of That Car Show.
- 0:43I'm Lindsay and I'm here with Ryan and we have a guest that we
- 0:47are so excited to share with everybody this week, my good
- 0:50friend Phil Morris, and he's a friend of the show.
- 0:51We've all had the chance to hang out together in person, which is
- 0:55not always the case with Instagram.
- 0:58And we're all scattered around. You know, Phil's in Southern
- 1:01California, I'm usually in Seattle, Ryan's in Colorado.
- 1:04But we have actually all met in person at the Peterson at a
- 1:07Ferrari event a few years ago. And now we're making it happen
- 1:11virtually getting together on the podcast.
- 1:14So Phil and I first connected on Instagram through Good Vibes,
- 1:19Good Vibes Breakfast Club, which was founded by all of our
- 1:22friends, Jay and Nicole Ryan up at Newcomb's Ranch in LA.
- 1:26And then there was one Friday morning a little bit after that
- 1:29where we were both there up at Newcomb's for Good Vibes on
- 1:32Friday morning. And my dog happened to jump on
- 1:34Phil's leg to say hello. And we realized we're connected
- 1:38on Instagram. But then we actually got to say
- 1:40hi in person. And you know, it's always fun to
- 1:43put a face to the Instagram handle.
- 1:45And we've been friends ever since.
- 1:48We know Phil for his ready smile, his sense of humor, how
- 1:53genuine and present he is when you are with him.
- 1:56But he has a prolific career as an actor and a voice actor, and
- 2:03many of our listeners will probably know him for his
- 2:05portrayal of arguably one of the most iconic characters on TV,
- 2:09Jackie Chiles on Seinfeld, Who is such a favorite.
- 2:16In addition to Seinfeld, Phil has been on The Young and the
- 2:19Restless, and he actually acted in the new Mission Impossible,
- 2:23playing his father's character's son.
- 2:26His father, of course, was Greg Morris, who was on the original
- 2:29Mission Impossible TV show in the 60s and I think maybe early
- 2:3470s. And so suffice it to say, Phil
- 2:38has lived an incredible, unique life, and he's a TrueCar
- 2:41enthusiast and a pretty good driver, if he does say so
- 2:45himself. So are so excited.
- 2:47Just ask me. Just ask him, right?
- 2:50So we are so excited to have you with us tonight and hear some of
- 2:53your stories. Welcome to the show, Phil.
- 2:56Well, thank you. What a what a humbling
- 2:59introduction. I really appreciate that.
- 3:01Gosh, I can't wait to hear what I have to say.
- 3:04You sound like a great dog. It's been a long year.
- 3:06I can't wait to meet me. This is this has been a long
- 3:09time in coming. But you know, we've met over a
- 3:12shared passion, which is really terrific.
- 3:13And you mentioned something, Lindsay, that is really very,
- 3:15very common and that a lot of us in the car world know each other
- 3:19from our our handles. And it was great to put a face
- 3:22with that and Ryan as well. And, and the Peterson was a
- 3:26great event. I mean, I'm a huge Ferrari.
- 3:28I'm a huge car fan, but I'm a real huge Ferrari fan.
- 3:31And to meet you guys over that was was terrific.
- 3:34It was definitely, yeah. Thank you for joining us.
- 3:37I mean, that was that was such a great way to kick off like sort
- 3:40of your relationship to our show.
- 3:43And we got to meet, you know, your lovely wife, Carla, who's
- 3:45just so effervescent and just really added to the whole
- 3:49morning. I know we all had a great time
- 3:51together and just you know, you're, you're a true family man
- 3:55and car enthusiast and we just were happy to have you with us.
- 4:00Thank you. Thank you.
- 4:02And so I know I've gotten to hang out with you at multiple
- 4:05car events. One of them, my dad was with us
- 4:09and you were telling us some really interesting stories
- 4:12because you grew up, obviously, as the son of a working actor.
- 4:16And so we wanted to hear sort of how did you get into cars?
- 4:22But also, can you share because you had said there were some
- 4:24unique experiences that your family got to have growing up?
- 4:29Yeah. I mean, just being, being in, in
- 4:33that celebrity world, you know, just get to it.
- 4:35There's access that just, I guess regular folk don't have or
- 4:40people who aren't in that world, they just don't have that
- 4:42access. It's like full on VIP behind the
- 4:45curtain stuff. And my dad became famous in
- 4:471966. Mission Impossible started in
- 4:5066. I was 7, so I was very young.
- 4:53So a lot of the things that we did which were amazing, I, I'm
- 4:58not sure if they're real memories or if I kind of
- 5:01highlighted them because you little kids, you know, they tend
- 5:04to embellish their memories. So I actually went back and
- 5:08people would say to me, ask this question, how, why are you so
- 5:10under cars? My dad used to be the Grand
- 5:13Marshall and VIP at many of the California races, California
- 5:18500, the Riverside 500, the Long Beach Grand Prix.
- 5:22So we went to all of those races and of course I was enamored.
- 5:26We're in the pits. We met like like everybody.
- 5:29So because those memories were so vivid and those the people
- 5:32were so illustrious, I went back and looked at who was at the
- 5:3719721971 Riverside Grand Prix California 500.
- 5:42So at they think it was the Riverside 500.
- 5:44I believe there were two races that went on that day.
- 5:46One was a Formula One race. 1 was a Formula 3000 race, both
- 5:50won by Mario Andretti. AJ Foyt was second in the
- 5:53Formula 3000 race. The flag man was Paul Newman.
- 5:57The special guests were the special guests were Greg Morris,
- 6:00Steve McQueen, Muhammad Ali. The Supremes sang the national
- 6:04anthem. I mean, that was just.
- 6:06You can't write that. I, I, I'm just here to tell you,
- 6:10even I was was like taken aback by how deep that dive was.
- 6:15And I remember being on the roof of the Long Beach Grand Prix and
- 6:19talking with Paul Newman about the race.
- 6:21I remember seeing Muhammad Ali and meeting him and, and you
- 6:25know, he was a huge fan of my dad at the time.
- 6:27They were just, you know, they were gargantuan figures in
- 6:30sports and entertainment. So to have that access, to be in
- 6:34the pits, to smell the smells, to do the thing, it just it man,
- 6:38it hooked me. It hooked me.
- 6:39So I've been a an exotic car lover primarily ever since.
- 6:43Yeah, yeah. I can't imagine that story.
- 6:45I mean. Yeah, that's it sucks.
- 6:48Did you know how special it was then?
- 6:50Always. I always did.
- 6:51We were always very grateful. And when we got a little bit too
- 6:54big for Bridges, we thought we were too much.
- 6:56Our parents were right there to go, hey, look, you know, I just
- 6:58come from Ohio. Your mom's from West Virginia.
- 7:00This is special stuff, you know so.
- 7:03Right, like this isn't normal? Yeah, I mean, you can see here
- 7:08in my house I have Wheaties boxes and they're Snoopy and
- 7:10they're thing. I mean, my whole life is like
- 7:12magical. It's just I have Le Mans,
- 7:14Ferrari, let's go cult. I've got comic books everywhere.
- 7:17I mean, it's it's this world, this life I've lived has been so
- 7:21full and fantastic and I just keep going.
- 7:23I lean right into it. I mean, you got to grab on with
- 7:26both hands, right? If that's is that people are are
- 7:31including you in, you'd be crazy not to say yes.
- 7:35I'm not going to lie, I did not expect a Supremes mention that
- 7:39early in the show. I mean, I mean, it's almost.
- 7:41Unbelievable, Phil. Yeah, well.
- 7:43That like. Yeah, how far we've fallen is
- 7:47the people. Right.
- 7:47Yeah, really. I'm really Really.
- 7:49Incredible. That's a journey out, so and on
- 7:52it goes. Even even.
- 7:53Go ahead. Sorry, go.
- 7:54Ahead. Well, dude, so how old were you
- 7:55when you were chatting with Paul Newman?
- 7:57I mean, that just blows me away. 8-9 you know. 10 you know.
- 8:03So the The show was on for seven years, from 66 to 73.
- 8:07I went from 7 to 14 very formative years.
- 8:11Every year there was something amazing.
- 8:13You know, there's a special golf tournament or a special, you
- 8:16know, the Philip Morris Company sponsored the show the first two
- 8:20years. And as a kid, I thought.
- 8:22All the merch. Well, well, I, I, I just thought
- 8:25I own the show, you know? You know, You know what I mean.
- 8:28You're a kid. What do you know?
- 8:30It's called Philip Morris. And he's right.
- 8:32Yeah, like this is me. Not kidding.
- 8:34Yes. It's just so it's kind of neat.
- 8:37It's kind of neat, yeah. I mean, I'll say that's yeah.
- 8:40And so did your did your whole family go, 'cause you have two
- 8:44sisters, correct? All of us, all of us went.
- 8:46We all went. We all loved it.
- 8:48Yeah, we were. We were a big kind of amoeba
- 8:51that would go from one event to another.
- 8:54We'd go to the Emmy events, the Emmy Award events.
- 8:57We'd go. My parents took us everywhere.
- 9:00We were really well behaved kids.
- 9:02We really appreciated it. We were enamored with the whole
- 9:05world as well. So it was exciting.
- 9:07Each one of us, my sisters and I would have like a day, a month
- 9:11that we would be able to go and get out of school and go to the
- 9:13studio and watch our dad film. So we each had a day that we
- 9:17went with him and then we spent the whole day at the studio.
- 9:20And you know, meant it was just like crazy because the Brady
- 9:24Bunch was shooting, then The Odd Couple was shooting them.
- 9:26You know, Bonanza was shooting. I mean, it was it was pretty
- 9:29special. So I guess that's, you know,
- 9:32some mystery why I do what I do. Well, that's I was going to say,
- 9:36you know, you've, you've met my dad.
- 9:38And right before we were recording, I said, hey, do you
- 9:40have any questions for Phil? And I think I told you after we
- 9:46met you and we had all gone home from the event, all of a sudden
- 9:49it hit him and he went, Oh my gosh, Greg Morris, wait, hold
- 9:53on. And he looked at my mom.
- 9:55He said, you're not going to believe this.
- 9:56I met Greg Morris's son. This is unbelievable.
- 9:59So tonight I said, do you have any questions for Phil?
- 10:01And he said, yeah, I would love to hear.
- 10:04And you've talked about it a little bit.
- 10:05Now, you grew up with your dad doing what he did.
- 10:09And so can you talk about, like, how you were exposed to, you
- 10:13know, obviously he got up and went to work.
- 10:15What was that like being exposed to that?
- 10:17And what made you want to follow in his footsteps career wise?
- 10:22Well, I, I for a long time I didn't, you know, I was the only
- 10:25boy and I was so young. You know, you're trying to
- 10:29figure out who you are and find your own identity.
- 10:31And every time somebody said, you know, little Greg to me, I'd
- 10:33like no, it's Phil. You know, I would 8th.
- 10:36I would definitely push back. I am pretty strong personality,
- 10:40always have been, and I wanted to find my, my way myself.
- 10:44And and so for a long time I was just an, an actor, an an athlete
- 10:48and and a dude. And then I, I got into
- 10:50automotive design early. Really.
- 10:52Yeah. And I, I went to Arts Center for
- 10:54about 6 months studying automotive design.
- 10:58Yeah. I wanted to from the inside out.
- 10:59And I had kind of a, an idea to go to kind of the Fisher body
- 11:02plant and work there as a design.
- 11:04Honestly, that's what I wanted to do.
- 11:05And my grades weren't good enough.
- 11:10My art was good, but my math sucked.
- 11:13And and you know, you have the cars have to run and they, you
- 11:16know. Feels like nitpicking, I'll be
- 11:19honest you. Know unless you're a Swedish car
- 11:21manufacturer, I don't know. Not a bad bad Oh, sorry, oh.
- 11:26So woke up and chose violence today.
- 11:28I know exactly. I'm so sorry.
- 11:30Phil. We had to beat them while
- 11:31they're down. Phil.
- 11:32God, they're losing them right, left and center.
- 11:35But yeah, I really wanted to be that, that guy.
- 11:37And then my dad took me on location 11 summer, and it was a
- 11:42movie that had some pretty amazing people.
- 11:44Yeah. I'm going to tell you stories.
- 11:45You guys are like, really? So my dad was doing this movie
- 11:49with Billy Dee Williams and Henry Fonda and Chad Everett and
- 11:53Merle Haggard and Buck Henry. And I mean, just crazy.
- 11:58And it was an Army picture. I'm 17 years old, playing Army,
- 12:01running around, acting like a fool.
- 12:03And my dad had an accident on the movie and they came to me
- 12:08and they told me they didn't know if he was going to be able
- 12:09to finish it. And they wanted me to take over
- 12:12the role that was an an actor. I mean, I had a pretty expanded
- 12:17PA role wrangling up these these extras from Bakersfield, but
- 12:22they felt like my energy was leadership material and my dad
- 12:25was playing a leader and, you know, maybe I could swing it.
- 12:28Long story short, he got better. But that got me into acting for
- 12:32real, for real, for real, for real.
- 12:33And I came back to LA and I started studying and I've been
- 12:35doing this ever since. That's incredible.
- 12:37I love it. What?
- 12:37Was in your garage growing up? I'm just curious.
- 12:40My dad had a 280 SE 3.5. He was really into that classic.
- 12:44It was like his dream car. Yeah, he and Peter Graves, who
- 12:47was the white yard guy on Mission Impossible, were the
- 12:51first celebrity voices of cars in the States.
- 12:55Like my dad and he were the Mercedes-Benz voices.
- 12:58And then my dad was the Chrysler voice for years.
- 13:01So there were a lot of Mercedes-Benz, a lot of 450
- 13:04SELS, and my first real car, like my own car was a Chrysler
- 13:09Cordoba. Wow.
- 13:12Horrible. So I know horrible cars.
- 13:14So I'm sorry, Sweden. I know.
- 13:16Horrible. I just know.
- 13:17Don't, don't be mad at me. Because I love you.
- 13:19Because I'm one. Of the reality, I believe for
- 13:23you at any rate, that was it's going to be a running joke.
- 13:27I'm telling you that that was my introduction.
- 13:31But cars have been around my whole life.
- 13:33Yeah, you know, yeah. Well, and you have had quite a
- 13:37collection over the years and I know we've talked about it said
- 13:40I'm, I'm not selling any anymore.
- 13:43Like if I get them, they're sticking with me because I mean,
- 13:46we've all felt the pain of like, oh, the one that you had to sell
- 13:49or the one that got away. And so when you get to the point
- 13:52where you can alleviate that pain or start to, you know.
- 13:58We are addicts, yes. Yeah.
- 14:00But so can you share like some of ours that you've had over the
- 14:05years because you know? Yeah, it's cool.
- 14:09And it's because you know what, I I was bad with cars when as a
- 14:12kid, I was terrible. I didn't want to spend money on
- 14:14the cars. I want to spend my money on my
- 14:15girlfriend, other stuff. I didn't see the benefit.
- 14:18I just, I was not good. And so I, I got the cars that I
- 14:21deserved. I literally I had a Pinto, I had
- 14:23a Vega, I had, I had like bad cars, which in hindsight it was
- 14:29perfect because now I am so responsible.
- 14:32I am so grateful. I'm so thankful to have the
- 14:36vehicles that I have and I'm so, so I'm prideful that I take such
- 14:40good care of them now because I was such a irresponsible lout
- 14:43before. I have something like a Pinto.
- 14:46You do appreciate you can only go up, right?
- 14:50Kind of kind of my my personalized license plate was
- 14:53IIN 10 two and people would say, Phil, are you going to get
- 15:02another car and go look at my license plate?
- 15:05I intend to it's. Right there.
- 15:07I intend to. Yeah, it was.
- 15:09I was manifesting even then. My first real kind of car was
- 15:14A1982911 SC Wonderful Root Beer Brown, which I put Gahi wheels
- 15:21on three wheels. Perfect.
- 15:23Such a baller tinted the windows brown tint.
- 15:27I mean, it was, it was, it was cool.
- 15:29It was cool. That's a commitment.
- 15:31Like we are going full. Yeah, I was there.
- 15:34I was there working brown to. Do everything, everything.
- 15:37It was a pretty cool looking car.
- 15:38I really like that car. And then I got an 88 Carrera,
- 15:43which is perfect. Like that's just a perfect
- 15:46sports car. And then I got a 1995993 Carrera
- 15:53S and then I got a 2004 GT 3 and I have a 2012 9911 Carrera SI
- 16:04have and then an R8 Audi 2018 rear wheel series.
- 16:09So those. Are and that one?
- 16:10Is and I only have the R8 and the 9911 now.
- 16:13Everybody else is like. That that's all.
- 16:15Yeah, I know. Well, I saw a black R8 the other
- 16:18day and I thought of you because.
- 16:21And this one, it was black like yours, but this one happened to
- 16:24have ski racks on the rear window did.
- 16:27You send me that? It's you.
- 16:29Just in case you ever want to take the R8 skiing, you can.
- 16:34Yeah, It was insane. I could see this thing coming
- 16:37from behind me and I was like, what's sticking up over the top?
- 16:40And then it passed us and I went, oh, of course, ski racks,
- 16:44obviously. Yes, yes, what an option.
- 16:47Like, you know Linds, you can do that in 911 as well.
- 16:50Technically speaking, I've. Seen you know what's funny?
- 16:52I think this one I've seen that a lot and I think it looks great
- 16:56on 9/11. This was, I mean, and maybe
- 16:58there's a reason they didn't put it on the roof on this RA, but
- 17:01it was on the back window. And so it was an odd, yeah, it
- 17:06was just an odd proposition. And it stuck up over like if you
- 17:09were looking at the car from the front, you saw part of one of
- 17:11them. It just.
- 17:12Right. It was a conversation piece,
- 17:14clearly, yeah. Yeah, well, the jumper fell off.
- 17:18Exactly. In mid flight they probably put
- 17:20it on the rear because the top of an R8 is very fragile.
- 17:23You know, they don't have sunroofs and so the construction
- 17:27on the roof is not very durable. So maybe there is more support.
- 17:32In that area, that would make sense.
- 17:34Yeah, weird though I I wouldn't do it.
- 17:37No, So Phil, why Porsche? I mean, it's it's I feel like
- 17:40it's it's it's something that we all kind of end up going to.
- 17:45But but, but what what was what was your story with?
- 17:48Porsche. Why Porsche?
- 17:49It was easier than the Ferrari again to #1 Ferraris are my
- 17:53first love. And that's just the my real, my
- 17:55real love. My great, my, my favorite car in
- 17:57the whole world is a 365 GTD 4 Daytona in the whole world.
- 18:02I used to work at a place called the Beverly Hills Car Company
- 18:04and I was the wash delivery boy, at least 16-17 years old.
- 18:08So I would drive, you name it, we drove everything, D12 Jags,
- 18:12everything. I had to deliver to the valley
- 18:14to this. I mean, I drove them everywhere
- 18:16and I washed all of them. So whenever there was a a
- 18:20Daytona that came in, just the sound of it, the styling of it,
- 18:24the IT was so sleek and sexy. And then I saw a movie called
- 18:29Gumball Rally, and it was a big time star in that movie.
- 18:33And I've been wanting one ever since.
- 18:36So Ferraris have always been on my radar.
- 18:38And I kind of love the mythos of Enzo Ferrari and the whole, you
- 18:42know, Italian craziness. And but they're hard to get into
- 18:46now, especially they're very expensive.
- 18:49And I found that Porsches were better engineered, quite
- 18:51honestly, as a sports car for what I wanted him for, which was
- 18:55to drive them. You know, I'm a driver of my
- 18:57cars. They're not garage Queens.
- 18:59I put them on the highway. So Porsches are more durable.
- 19:03They're they're a little bit more fun to drive seated the
- 19:05pants wise and that you get a real feedback from them that you
- 19:10you just don't get from the Ferraris.
- 19:13Not in my estimation anyway. Not in the older ones.
- 19:16The new ones, maybe I haven't driven a lot of the real new
- 19:18ones. I feel like we could fix that.
- 19:22We probably know. Can we?
- 19:24I would love that, yeah. And the design of Porsche is
- 19:28perfect. It's a perfect car to me.
- 19:30Yeah, yeah. So is that you mentioned, you
- 19:33know, you wanted to be a designer, car designer, and
- 19:35that's something that you and I have talked about up at Newcomb.
- 19:37I I think Byron showed up in a new Porsche at one point and I
- 19:42went, oh, I love it. And you're like, well, no, but
- 19:43here's the design elements. This is where they and it was
- 19:47fascinating. So do you find, you know, you
- 19:51obviously didn't do that as a career, but is that something
- 19:54that's sort of a thread through your daily life?
- 19:57Oh yeah, I think I'm an aesthetic person.
- 20:00And I like the visual of things and, and how they're put
- 20:04together. I think I like cars because of
- 20:07the man machine element, you know, how man and machine come
- 20:10together. And I mean, and that's why I
- 20:12love racing. You know, it's another element
- 20:14of the man and the machine come together.
- 20:16How do you channel these forces and, and, and, and make them do
- 20:20your bidding? I'm a race.
- 20:22I'm a racing, you know what I mean?
- 20:24As a, as a race driver, I'm talking about on the street, of
- 20:26course, I'm talking about on a track.
- 20:28And I'm going to skip graduates so that I'm enamored with the
- 20:31philosophy and the ability of a driver to, to put a car on the
- 20:35limit, the absolute limit. And that takes a a marriage of
- 20:39of man and machine and engineering and sentient being.
- 20:42And that's pretty interesting to me.
- 20:44Well when you think about it like 1 can't do that without the
- 20:47other on either side. So how did you get into like
- 20:52high performance and track driving?
- 20:54You know, I was first exposed to racing, you know, like I said,
- 20:58at a young age, I was exposed to the highest levels of racing at
- 21:01a very young age. And the people that I was, come
- 21:03on, man. My dad was friends with Gene
- 21:04Hackman and Clint Eastwood and they were both gentlemen
- 21:07celebrity racers. And he was a good friend of Mike
- 21:11Connors, who played manics on the.
- 21:13Ocean. He was a big sports car guy.
- 21:15So you mean that there were always exotics around?
- 21:19There were always Ferraris and Rolls Royces and from Mercedes
- 21:22Benzes and some Aston's and and Jags around.
- 21:27So I was always enamored with those stylings as well.
- 21:31I mean, they were just, they're exotics.
- 21:32They're called exotics for a reason, not just because of how
- 21:35they drive. It's because of how they look,
- 21:37how they make us feel, you know? All right, so we know you like
- 21:39Porsches and you like Ferraris. Is there anything that you just
- 21:42can't stand like a car you see and just recoil?
- 21:47Did someone say British? Did we say no, those are cool.
- 21:50I actually love them. It's just, it's just a joke.
- 21:54Tesla trucks, number one, number one on the on the hate parade.
- 21:58Yeah #1 on the hate parade. And that's Yeah.
- 22:05Wow. What was the other one I didn't
- 22:07like? It was a, it's a Honda.
- 22:08It's like a, it's like a modular thing.
- 22:10It's not great. The.
- 22:12Element, yeah. That's it, the element.
- 22:15That's a love it or hated preposition.
- 22:17Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 22:19See, that's why I'm on the show with you.
- 22:21Exactly. Yeah.
- 22:23What else did I not like? There's not, you know, I, I
- 22:26here's the here's the thing, like you go up to Newcomb, so
- 22:28you go any really good car show. Yeah, I might not like that.
- 22:32Like if I'm not into that car, unless the truck, probably not
- 22:36going to talk to you about that, but if you're into it, I'm into
- 22:39you. I'm into you because you're so
- 22:42into what you like, even though I may not buy it, it may not be
- 22:45something that would be in my garage.
- 22:47I, I, I just love the energy that they come, that we come
- 22:50with when it comes to our favorite steed.
- 22:53And, and so I'm, I'm all ears. I'm like, I'm your audience,
- 22:57baby. Talk to me about the M3 or the
- 22:59B4 or whatever it is you got that you're into, I mean.
- 23:02Vintage Corolla that you've brought up the mountain.
- 23:05The vintage? Yeah, well, who did that?
- 23:08It wouldn't be. I want to hear about this.
- 23:10No, I didn't bring. No, I think somebody did at one
- 23:13point. It wasn't a day that I was
- 23:15there, but there was a picture of it.
- 23:16And I was like, like you said, and I think we talked about that
- 23:19on the show too. It's like, I think that's one of
- 23:21the most interesting things about the car world is that
- 23:23there's an enthusiast for every model, which is so fascinating
- 23:27when it's not your thing and you're like, OK, so this is the
- 23:31car that has grabbed you and just taken hold and you're like,
- 23:36I'm all in. So like you said, you're like,
- 23:38OK, tell me your story. How is this the one that grabbed
- 23:42your heart when it's not something that one of us has
- 23:45connected with individually? I think that's what keeps it so
- 23:49fascinating. And you mentioned, you know, I
- 23:52mean, the the mix of cars that go to good vibes is always
- 23:56interesting. It's so eclectic.
- 24:01Yeah, it's a Porsche centric world in California.
- 24:03Admittedly, it's it's a very adaptable car for for our
- 24:07climate and, and how we drive and, and our roads and so forth.
- 24:12So there's a lot of Porsches, a lot of nine elevens that that,
- 24:14that, that show up there. But there's a lot of everything,
- 24:17you know, vets and BMWs and Nastens and Mclarens and what
- 24:23Civics and, and Toyotas and, you know, Fiats and it's a, it's a,
- 24:28it's a come on up, man. Well.
- 24:30And there's what you got. I think there's an Outback wagon
- 24:34that's like a. It wasn't one that came to the
- 24:36US. Maybe.
- 24:37I mean, there's all these unique.
- 24:40Yeah. And like my.
- 24:40Buddy Dom is a 300 SD. You know, there's this badass
- 24:44300 diesel he calls blue. You know, it's just, it's just
- 24:48it's that, but that's it, right? It's it's, it's our love for
- 24:52these things we give them like. Well, and you never know what
- 24:55you're going to. See, Phil, how'd that all start
- 24:57for you? You know the whole good vibes
- 24:59thing And you know that's. Right.
- 25:01No, Ryan, you did good. It's a good story.
- 25:03It's a good question. I had bought this RA, right.
- 25:06And and I was looking for a community.
- 25:10OK. I'm not a club guy.
- 25:12I'm not a joiner of things. I'm I just I just.
- 25:16But I was looking for people who were into exotic cars and I
- 25:19could drive somewhere and it was cool.
- 25:21So I go online and it's on Instagram and a buddy of mine,
- 25:25Bentley, Kyle Evans, who's a producer I've worked with on
- 25:27Martin and the other shows, Jamie Foxx show, He's a great
- 25:30producer. I love the guy.
- 25:31He is showing a picture of him and his drop top 911 leaving
- 25:35good vibes. And he goes, you know, everybody
- 25:37knows on a good nice day, I like to drop the top on my 911 and
- 25:40drive and blah, blah, blah. And I'm like, where is that?
- 25:44And he told me and I said I will meet you Friday.
- 25:47I went that Friday and they will go well.
- 25:49Yeah. Well, where you driving?
- 25:50I said you don't worry about it. I'll bring in some.
- 25:51I'll bring up then. I got that.
- 25:53That's what I showed up. I got that.
- 25:55Don't worry about it. Don't you worry about it.
- 25:57And I showed up in the R8 and we drove up and I love that road.
- 26:01So I mean, I ripped that road from day one, loved every inch
- 26:06of it, got up to good vibes. And you know, you guys are going
- 26:10to you get them around turn and you come on just like tree
- 26:13lined. Yeah, those are.
- 26:15It's like you're in idle wise. You're like, I'm doing The Sound
- 26:18of Music's happening. And I grew up and this entire
- 26:22phalanx of 150 cars super cool. I'm like, I have found my
- 26:29people. Yeah, I've been going ever
- 26:31since. Angel singing birds.
- 26:34Flying Butterfly. Things were sweeter, smells were
- 26:40beautiful. I mean.
- 26:43Yeah, it's a little bit met Jan Nicole and and, you know, kind
- 26:46of the beauty of, of, of, of my journey is that I forget that
- 26:50I'm kind of the dude I am on TV. So.
- 26:52And that's great because then I can walk places and people.
- 26:55Hey. And I think like, do I know
- 26:56you're from high school? Do we know somebody from
- 26:58college? You know, I don't, I don't put
- 27:00it together. Yeah, I, I meet somewhere else.
- 27:06So there's so many people up there, car journalists that I
- 27:08really admire and they admire my work.
- 27:10And so it's like all love and it's really, really refreshing.
- 27:14You know, we talk cars, we don't talk about the business.
- 27:17It's just, it's just nice, you know?
- 27:19It's become bigger than LA. You know, I, I live out.
- 27:23Here it's international. Yeah, yeah.
- 27:25Like you go to LA, you make a pilgrimage, you know, to good
- 27:27vibes. It's, it's right up there with
- 27:29the Peterson or, you know, anything else.
- 27:32It's probably something magical. Depending on the weekend, it can
- 27:35be overwhelming. Yeah.
- 27:37You know, Yeah. Oh my gosh, Just love cuckold
- 27:40and they're in town. Yeah, you know, or people, but
- 27:43week before Monterey Week or Yeah, man.
- 27:46Well, and like you said, it's become like a pilgrimage.
- 27:50I know. What is it?
- 27:52Air water? I think Haggerty has coordinated
- 27:54a cruise from the garage and social in Van Nuys up to Good
- 27:58Vibes. And then they go to, you know,
- 28:00Air water the next day. And so it's and like, how many
- 28:02times does Matt Ferris say people reach out to him and they
- 28:04go, OK, where do I need to go in LA?
- 28:06I'm obviously going to the Peterson.
- 28:08I'm obviously going to Good Vibes.
- 28:09What are the other places like? It's a standard pub if you're in
- 28:13the car community. And I think you hit on a really
- 28:16important point and we talk about this a lot of like, I
- 28:20think one of the most beautiful things about the car community
- 28:22is it's the great equalizer because we're so focused on
- 28:25this, you know, hobby and some might even say sickness that we
- 28:29are so obsessed with these cars that it does.
- 28:32Like even when you and I first met, I didn't realize
- 28:35immediately that you were Jackie Chiles, who I obviously knew the
- 28:38character. I put it together later.
- 28:41But I think that's the best part is we all just, we're all just
- 28:43people. Right, right.
- 28:45That's the best point. Ryan, you were going to say
- 28:48about something about that? No, I just, I had that same
- 28:49experience when I met you at the Peterson and your lovely wife
- 28:52Carla. We just, we got along, you know,
- 28:54got on famously. And then I had that moment where
- 28:57I said, damn, I, where do I know you're from?
- 29:00And you know, and then, you know, I mean, I think this must
- 29:03be a regular occurrence for you. But, you know, but, you know,
- 29:07car enthusiasts, we just all kind of kind of get along,
- 29:10right. I mean, that's.
- 29:11Just so we speak the same language.
- 29:14Yeah, we speak the same language, you know, and, and,
- 29:16and I think we're looking for more community, honestly.
- 29:19And, and this is an easy end. You know, whenever I'm up there
- 29:23and I do a post from up there, I'm like, it doesn't know what
- 29:25you drive. You know, if you're cool, come
- 29:27people, they ask me all the time because I see the sticker on my
- 29:29car. They're like, well, what time
- 29:30does it start? I said whenever you get there,
- 29:33you know, what do I drive? Whatever you got, you know, you
- 29:36want. It's not really about that, you
- 29:38know, because when you get there, it has its own charm.
- 29:41It has its own energy and has its own vibe.
- 29:44And as long as you bring a good vibe, I think you come away with
- 29:471. And that's that's been my
- 29:50experience 100% of the time I had it.
- 29:53I have. I've had so many wonderful
- 29:54experiences. There's so many people who do
- 29:56come up there and it's a destination spot.
- 29:57I know NFL players, yeah, who fly their cars in right, drive
- 30:02them up the mountain for the day, drive them back to the
- 30:06airport and fly them home. I love that now they're medical
- 30:09players, so they're multi millionaires, but that's their
- 30:11vibe. That's their jam.
- 30:13I remember seeing the guy who owns.
- 30:16He owns it's. Going.
- 30:19To be good. Alpena, Alpena, the owner of
- 30:21Alpena came up. Oh yeah, that's good.
- 30:25And he came over to me and he's like, I've seen your posts and
- 30:28da, da, da. And we came in from New York.
- 30:29We were in New York yesterday. We're in California today.
- 30:31We're in California because we're here at Newcombs, he says.
- 30:35Because this is the quintessential California car
- 30:37culture culture. And we want to talk to you and
- 30:39we want to know what it's all about and what you guys are
- 30:42interested in and blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 30:43And I said, you got to meet Jay immediately took the owner of
- 30:48Alpena and his guy over to meet Jay and Jay, this is so and so
- 30:54from Alpena. This is Jay Ryan and Nicole,
- 30:57blah, blah, blah. And that I let him talk.
- 30:59I let him talk. I let him talk.
- 31:00And I come back and Jay's like, why'd you stick me with those
- 31:02guys? I'm like, wait, wait, Jay, Jay.
- 31:04No, no, that was the owner of Alpena.
- 31:07Alpena. Oh, oh, I just thought he was
- 31:11some German dude. That is funny.
- 31:14But that's. That as well.
- 31:17Yes, that as well. But that's the thing, you know?
- 31:19You don't think it's nobody. Don't care.
- 31:21Don't care who you are. You didn't care who he was.
- 31:24Just are you a good person? Are you cool?
- 31:26Yeah. Yeah.
- 31:26Yeah, well, it's. Become such a thing.
- 31:29Yeah, Sorry, Lindsay. You say It's become such a thing
- 31:32that it's become parodied by friends like Angela's Death
- 31:36Highway, who was on the show a couple of weeks ago.
- 31:41Have you had the have you been lucky enough to have been
- 31:43featured in one of, you know, in his body of work, Phil?
- 31:46Or no, I, I have not, I have been on other things like Oyster
- 31:51King or some of the guy and he's like, let's see if we can catch
- 31:55up with the RA, you know, and he's driving some M3 and his,
- 31:59his followers are all like, oh, you're going to smoke him.
- 32:03And I just, you know, I just just disappeared to the into the
- 32:06distance. Yeah.
- 32:07And then he hits me up and he goes, it was it was very
- 32:10difficult. You were very hard to keep up
- 32:12with. I said thank you.
- 32:13It's it's quite the honor. But I, you know, I only have
- 32:17good involvement with with people like that.
- 32:19Yeah. And the ones that I like, I
- 32:20watch and the ones that I don't just stay away from.
- 32:23Yeah. Yeah, easy as pie.
- 32:25Change the channel. Exactly.
- 32:27That's the beauty of it. Well, so you wanted Martin and
- 32:32you know, but you said, as you said, you started acting when
- 32:35you were 17 and you've been like, you've had the unique
- 32:38distinction to be a working actor all of that time, which is
- 32:43pretty incredible. But can you share like just some
- 32:46of the projects that you've worked on?
- 32:48Sure. Yeah, absolutely.
- 32:52You know, I kind of, I, I, I started, right, like in the
- 32:55middle of all the good stuff. You know, the TV was really cool
- 32:58back then. I I, I mean, I literally guessed
- 33:01it on a two-part Webster episode with Ben Vereen.
- 33:06Yeah, cliffhanger. It was crazy.
- 33:08It was really, it was crazy. It was like he played Webster's
- 33:12uncle who's trying to get into the business.
- 33:14I play a studio executive at Paramount and he comes to my
- 33:18office to to get a job. I've, you know, and I'm, I don't
- 33:22know, I've been too old. I was, I might have been 2726,
- 33:27you know, 25. And here I am playing opposite
- 33:30Ben Bereen and, you know, just having a great time in a comedy
- 33:34and it just went on from there for me.
- 33:35I did. I mean, I'm going to mention
- 33:37shows that nobody knows except maybe you guys.
- 33:39Heart to Heart was with. Yeah.
- 33:42That was a loyal viewer of heart to heart, right?
- 33:44I mean, great car show, really. A really good car.
- 33:48Show. And it was a show.
- 33:49It was an episode with Tippi Hedren and they use her actual
- 33:54wild. You should have has a wildlife
- 33:56preserve. That's right.
- 33:57And yeah, and so they use her actual animals on it.
- 34:02And I played her assistant with David McCallum, who you know who
- 34:06was Ilya Kuriakin in a show called The Man from UNCLE.
- 34:10I'm going to go deep here for you people and.
- 34:14And and yeah, and they killed me in the show and they.
- 34:17They kill you with animals. No, it's awesome.
- 34:21They stick a spear in me and they put me in a boat and I'm
- 34:25floating down the river in the boat and that's how the hearts
- 34:28see me is so good. I did Murder She Wrote with
- 34:32Angela. Oh, yeah.
- 34:33I got some cool stories. Yeah.
- 34:35David McCallum going. To be amazing.
- 34:37Wasn't David David McCallum, wasn't he on NCIS with Marco?
- 34:43OK, He's he was OK. He was the doctor or the the,
- 34:47the, the, the. And they called him Ducky.
- 34:49OK, that's exactly right. That's Dave Mckell.
- 34:52Yeah. And Ian Bannon was in.
- 34:54The I think it's continued, it's just back.
- 34:56Back then in TV, stars were guest stars on television shows.
- 35:03You know, I mean, they polled them for the major shows and I
- 35:08did them. My dad did a show called Vegas
- 35:10with Robert Ehrich. It was a short loop show.
- 35:13I went on that show and guested on that show as a as a
- 35:15basketball player who is shaving points.
- 35:17I mean, really. Yeah.
- 35:19Yeah. I mean, I've, I've had some
- 35:21pretty fun. Interesting.
- 35:23I did diagnosis murder with Dick Van Dyke.
- 35:26No kidding. Yeah. 2 episodes of that, as a
- 35:28matter of fact, where I was the killer.
- 35:30And it was with Barbara Bain. And I mean, just so many
- 35:35fabulous experiences that I've had doing the new Mission
- 35:38Impossible with Peter Graves, who was my Uncle Peter.
- 35:41You know, I grew up with him and his kids and then we're working
- 35:44together in Australia together on the show that he and my
- 35:47father made famous. So that's it's.
- 35:50Talk about. Magical.
- 35:52You played your father's character's son like your
- 35:57character was his character's son.
- 35:59What was that like? Mission Impossible.
- 36:02My version was born of a writer's strike at the time, so
- 36:08no one could write anything and the student executives who still
- 36:13needed to kind of create projects felt that Mission
- 36:16Impossible could be done again, not change a word and be just as
- 36:22modern. So in fact, when I got the job,
- 36:24I got my father's character's job.
- 36:26I was Grant, I was Barney Collier, which was my father's
- 36:28character in Mission Impossible. I got cast as Barney Collier.
- 36:32And then before we left for Australia, the Reich's the
- 36:36writer, the writers strike ended.
- 36:38And so then they made me Grant Collier, the son of and yeah, it
- 36:43was surreal. It was Wolf.
- 36:45It was beyond surreal. And then we shot in Australia,
- 36:48which was, was pretty crazy because we, I'd never been
- 36:51there. So to go there like full stop
- 36:53for eight months at a time was, was pretty well.
- 36:55And my dad came down and guested on a few episodes.
- 36:57So that again was surreal. This year, he's coming to my
- 37:00show to play his character right.
- 37:04My heart starts pumping and just just thinking about.
- 37:06It well, yeah, I mean, So what was it like acting with?
- 37:09Because obviously you said you got to go to set.
- 37:12It was tough. Did it was tough.
- 37:14I mean, it was tough, you know. I mean, we could, we could play
- 37:16it two ways. I could play it the Hollywood
- 37:18way and go. It was so terrific.
- 37:19My dad was so great to do. That was so amazing.
- 37:21Or I can tell you the truth, which was my father was in a bad
- 37:23shape physically. He just wasn't in good shape.
- 37:25So I wasn't that excited to have him come down because I knew he
- 37:28wasn't in good shape. The producers did not.
- 37:31So yeah, I knew the real story. So I didn't know what version of
- 37:35him we were going to get. And this just being, you know, I
- 37:38mean, I like we let's talk real, real stuff here, right?
- 37:41We're here for the truth it. All it all worked out.
- 37:44It was wonderful, but it was daunting.
- 37:47And, and and then we're playing a scene where at the end of the
- 37:50second episode is he did 2 parter for us.
- 37:52He dies in my arms. So we're playing a scene where
- 37:56he literally dies in my arms. And that didn't necessarily
- 38:00happen in real life, but it was pretty close.
- 38:03So. So what do I want to say about
- 38:06this? This journey has been
- 38:09unbelievably fruitful and incredibly eye opening as a life
- 38:13experience for me. And it couldn't have happened
- 38:16any other way. And I love every minute and
- 38:18minute of it. And I look forward to every
- 38:20moment. More honest with you.
- 38:23I mean, that's like if we can say that we're all way ahead of
- 38:27the game, right? Yeah.
- 38:28Yeah, yeah. That's the dream, right?
- 38:29That's. Right, that's what we're doing
- 38:32here. How has the business changed in
- 38:34recent years? You know, I hear from people and
- 38:36you know, it seems to. Is it tougher than ever to be a
- 38:40working actor? I think so.
- 38:41I mean, it's, it's changed. It's both.
- 38:43I mean, they're streaming, so a lot more content that's needed.
- 38:45There's a lot more streaming services than than there were
- 38:48networks. Yeah.
- 38:49So, so that's changed. It's changed the, the pay scale
- 38:52quite a bit because you kind of, you know, distill the, the pie a
- 38:57bit. But because I've been around for
- 39:01so long, you know, I've seen my father go through what he's gone
- 39:03through. There's always change.
- 39:05It's, it's ever changing. It's never not.
- 39:08It's fluid, as fluid as all get out.
- 39:09It's what entertainment is. When it doesn't change, it's no
- 39:11longer interesting. And so it's no longer painting,
- 39:14so it has to change. And we've seen it.
- 39:15I've seen it go from, you know, straight TV where you had to be
- 39:19there every night. You couldn't you couldn't tape
- 39:21it. You know, you had to watch a
- 39:23rerun in the summertime and reruns what went?
- 39:25And then there was this incredible thing called
- 39:28videotape blew everybody's mod. And now you could record things.
- 39:33You can watch them later. Then there was the VHS and then
- 39:35there was the DVD and then there was, you know what I mean?
- 39:37So right the way along this thing has changed and morphed
- 39:41and I have just been right there for it.
- 39:42And I think I did AI did a seminar called Phil Morris gives
- 39:46you the business meaning. I'm just name.
- 39:49Yeah. I'm giving you the business, the
- 39:52good and the bad and the well. Double on top right here.
- 39:54Tell you it was so good. He's like, you look at a ditch
- 39:57digger, right? And the dudes like sweating and
- 39:58he's like, hey, man, how you doing?
- 40:00He's like living the dream, you know?
- 40:03So yeah, the business. And it was about this very
- 40:06thing, how do you handle yourself on a set?
- 40:08How do you deal with when you go to a set like you're, you're a
- 40:12young actor, you're a student of acting.
- 40:14You've never had a professional job.
- 40:15You get a job on a show, on a commercial.
- 40:16What do you do the first day? You don't have a clue.
- 40:19You know, you show up to the set, you go see the AD, you tell
- 40:22them your name, you check in. So I would, it was like a, a
- 40:24seminar like that. It wasn't an acting workshop.
- 40:27It was how to be a professional. Actor how to conduct?
- 40:29Yourself. What I, what I wish somebody
- 40:31would have told me, have less ego, you know, be more of a team
- 40:36player, hang up to your wardrobe, always be on time,
- 40:39know your lines, which are things that you probably should
- 40:41know. But as a professional, you can't
- 40:43get away with not knowing it, right?
- 40:46So I'm doing this seminar and I tell one of my friends who's
- 40:49who's my age, I'm like, I'm doing the seminar.
- 40:51Oh, thank goodness. Because you know, because this
- 40:53new business, I can't stand it. You know, it's a self tape this
- 40:56and a self tape that. And I can't, I can't go in and I
- 40:59can't share my nuance with the casting people.
- 41:01It's always on the tape and this and I hear this like Charlie
- 41:05Brown's teacher. And I say as a Christopher, I
- 41:11love you. I just love you and I hear you.
- 41:14But I'm going to ask you a question.
- 41:17What if we started our careers today?
- 41:19What would we know to do? Only what we know to do today?
- 41:24We wouldn't think about all. Back in my day, I would go in at
- 41:263:00, we're going to put my 8 by 10 and I'll be out there by 3:30
- 41:29on my hamburger drive by 7. No, we wouldn't be doing that.
- 41:32We would just do what was required of us to do today.
- 41:35And my point was, shut it. If you want to be, if you want
- 41:40to be in the game, you got to play the game.
- 41:42If you don't want to play the game, get out of the game.
- 41:45But the game's always going to be bigger than you.
- 41:47I mean, I don't care who you are.
- 41:50I remember on them, but you guys answer your questions.
- 41:53Y'all talk forever. I remember Christian Bale saying
- 41:58all of us at this level of success are just taking the jobs
- 42:03that Leonardo DiCaprio turned down.
- 42:06So no matter how high you fly, there's always somebody who is a
- 42:11bigger gorilla, bigger something, you know, in the
- 42:13studio, in the game, is always bigger than us.
- 42:16I love that. Well, it's, I mean, something
- 42:18I've heard in different areas of life, but it applies here is
- 42:23like, like you said, if you started today, it would be what
- 42:26it is. It's like you can like this is
- 42:30what it is and you are welcome to keep going or you can decide
- 42:34not to do it, but it's not going to change the nature of the
- 42:38game. Like you can change, you can
- 42:41change your careers, but if you agree to be here, this is how it
- 42:45is now. Right, you can change your
- 42:48approach so it works better for it, but you got to know what it
- 42:51is too anyway. Yeah, Phil, I had to stop myself
- 42:55the other day. I was talking to someone.
- 42:56They asked, you know, how long I've been doing podcasts.
- 42:58And I started going down this route of, you know, when we
- 43:01started doing this, there was a lot less competition.
- 43:04And, you know, you couldn't just go into the Guitar Center and
- 43:07buy the equipment. You had to kind of know it was
- 43:09you got to, you got to stop, man.
- 43:10You're going to stop. You became that guy, Yeah.
- 43:18You. Become a has been, you know.
- 43:21At some point, we all go. To anything I guess is what?
- 43:24Absolutely anything. We just happen to be talking
- 43:26about this. You know, we talk about cars.
- 43:28He's like Porsche, right? Their growth, their change is
- 43:31incremental, just increasing enough, just enough.
- 43:35If it ain't broke, don't fix it. You know, just enough because
- 43:38the itch I the market changes, the people change.
- 43:41They want to have more stuff that's easier to drive the thing
- 43:43and whatever, whatever it is, right.
- 43:45But they're also going to dial in the Porsche signature.
- 43:47Yeah, so you don't. You can walk and chew gum at the
- 43:50same time I guess is my point. Those guys know what they're
- 43:52doing, you know? Yeah.
- 43:56Well, that one thing that you think like right before we
- 43:58started recording, you were talking about kind of the
- 44:01dichotomy of being an actor and what the nature of your job is
- 44:05as an actor and playing a variety of characters, but also
- 44:08what the industry would prefer to, which is being consistent.
- 44:13So can you talk a little bit more about that and like how
- 44:16you've handled that to have the career that you've had?
- 44:20Yeah, I, I, I think you have to make a choice, you know, are you
- 44:23a brand or are you an artist? Artist.
- 44:25I mean, some artists can be brands and, and you know, that's
- 44:28an extension of their artistry and then they're branded, right?
- 44:31And then there's people who, who work from this is who I am.
- 44:35This is what I do. And I take this everywhere I go.
- 44:38And you know, and, and a lot of people, it's good enough, It's
- 44:41good enough. That's, that's, that's their
- 44:42choice. That's their process.
- 44:44My process has been one of I look at the material, I look at
- 44:48this character. Can I love this human being?
- 44:50How are they, what do they want? What do they love?
- 44:53What do they hate, blah, blah, blah.
- 44:55Now I can do this person as I continue to do that, I am
- 44:59accepting them as opposed to putting myself in there.
- 45:05I'm trying to, I already know myself.
- 45:06I know what I am. I know who I am.
- 45:08I got to figure out who they are.
- 45:09And the more I do that, like Jackie Childs isn't me, you
- 45:12know, it's a very different energy than I am.
- 45:14But I know a lot of preachers and a lot of hustlers.
- 45:16I know a lot of, you know, street corner cats and and you
- 45:19know, my dad is a rapist Trump personality, a lot of him in
- 45:21there. So you steal from people that
- 45:23you know and things that you're aware of.
- 45:26That's my process and I think it's worked for me.
- 45:29Other people, even though they may say they are fine actors,
- 45:32you see them portraying the same energy from roll up to roll.
- 45:37It's not easy. It's not easy to lose yourself
- 45:39like a Daniel Day Lewis or Christian Bale or you know,
- 45:42there's a lot of actors that are amazing.
- 45:44Meryl Streep and, you know, some of the younger actors are
- 45:47terrific. Almost.
- 45:48I mean some of the. Informative stuff, yeah.
- 45:50Almost unrec. They go there, they go there,
- 45:53man. And it's, it's unbelievable to
- 45:56consume, to see. But I always like, I think you
- 46:00just alluded to this. I always am curious what that
- 46:03means for them on the back end, in their personal life or even
- 46:07just as an individual, because that's an intense commitment.
- 46:12Yeah, I read that Benicio del Toro for years took lesser money
- 46:17to play more interesting, diverse characters in in movies
- 46:20that didn't have the financing. But he wanted to play those
- 46:22characters because he needed to as a as an artist, you know, and
- 46:25I don't use the word artist like, you know, we're all
- 46:27artists. No, we're not.
- 46:29We're not all artists. You know, some of us are just
- 46:31representational people and we're not transformative.
- 46:34And to me, art is transformative.
- 46:36Can you can, you can. I can't walk.
- 46:39It's not to break my arm off, pat myself in the back.
- 46:42But it took guys a while to figure out who I was because I'm
- 46:45not trying to be that person. I'm me.
- 46:47I try to transform the best that I can.
- 46:49I'm not a sociopath, so I know I'm always me into this
- 46:53character that lives and breathes.
- 46:55When I go home, I embody or I envision that they are walking
- 46:59around. And when I come into work doing
- 47:01this show, I'm doing Fire Country right now and I'm
- 47:03playing a rancher and he's very different than me and he has a
- 47:06very difficult relationship with his daughter.
- 47:08I have a wonderful relationship with my daughter and my kids.
- 47:10So it's very difficult for me to play.
- 47:12It's counterintuitive. So I really have got to find him
- 47:16and, and slip into him, right? And so I feel like my, what I do
- 47:20was I, I see that these people, when I leave and I sign out,
- 47:23they're still at the ranch, man. They're still trying to put out
- 47:26the fire. They're still dealing with their
- 47:28daughter. I go home, I go to the hotel and
- 47:30I have a nice dinner and I go, no, no, come back and have a
- 47:33breakfast sandwich. And then I try my best to shake
- 47:35and fill off and then put on this character.
- 47:40And to the degree that I can do that, then I'm satisfied.
- 47:43And I have to be the one who's satisfied.
- 47:46And it's taking a long time to get there, you know, because
- 47:48you're trying to serve the industry, you're trying to serve
- 47:50your agents, you're trying to serve the producers, you're
- 47:52trying to serve the piece, you're trying to serve your
- 47:53fellow actors, trying to serve the director, You're trying to
- 47:55serve the lighting guy and the camera guy and the prop guy.
- 47:57I got a gun and I got a horse and I got a ring.
- 47:59You know, it's taking a long time to to collate all that
- 48:03information and and allow this person to live his life.
- 48:08That's transformative. Well, I love the idea of like, I
- 48:13think that's such a healthy sort of approach and tool to look at
- 48:18it as like, no, their timeline goes on while I go do my stuff
- 48:22and then I'm just going to come back and we'll link back up.
- 48:24I love that. It's, it's, it's really kind of
- 48:27spiritual to me. I love it a lot.
- 48:29I have good friends who watch this character.
- 48:31The first time they saw him, they're like, I don't like you,
- 48:33I love you. And then they wrote about it.
- 48:36They were like, you know, it's really difficult to see somebody
- 48:38that you love and not like them, you know?
- 48:41But I would imagine that's a high compliment because you're
- 48:44like, that means I did it well. Yes.
- 48:47Because these are people that are predisposed to love you,
- 48:50they already have affection for you and they're like, Despite
- 48:52that, not a fan. Yeah, that's exactly.
- 48:56I'm not trying to do it to win you.
- 48:58I'm trying to do it to be truthful.
- 49:00Yeah. I love that.
- 49:01I know you do a lot of voice over work in addition to all the
- 49:05on screen stuff. I've long thought that voice
- 49:08over work must be like the sweetest gig there is because
- 49:11you don't have to, you know, burden yourself with a lot of
- 49:13that, I suppose. Are you telling me is it?
- 49:16Yeah, you're right. You're not wrong.
- 49:17You know, it is much more difficult to do the
- 49:19three-dimensional representation of a performance.
- 49:23You know, admittedly, in voice, you're just using your voice,
- 49:26but you have to be so well versed in your reference points
- 49:30as a human being so that you bring the references that then
- 49:33we all respond to, right? You resonate based on my ground
- 49:37of being. And it has to be so nuanced just
- 49:39because it's only a voice, you know, and they're rendering the
- 49:42physical behavior. So I have to have that nuance in
- 49:45my voice to the degree that you as an audience, there's no
- 49:48scene, you know what I mean? You just dive right into it.
- 49:51So some of the most talented people I've ever worked with in
- 49:53my career are voice over actors. They're able to affect so many
- 49:58different dialects or even animals, you know, got him.
- 50:00This is a guy named Frank Welker.
- 50:02Frank Welker is known for animals.
- 50:05He was Dino in The Flintstones and he's played scooby-doo.
- 50:10He's played, I mean, he's amazing.
- 50:13The guy's insanely wealthy because he does so many
- 50:17different things and he's done so many different episodes and
- 50:19they rerun them all the time. And he gets paid like
- 50:21ridiculous. But he's so sweet and he's a
- 50:24nice guy. He's like this little Patricia,
- 50:26the old man, grandfathery guy. And you'd be like Frank.
- 50:30And he just starts this day and does his thing and turns his hat
- 50:33around and, you know, comes in in a Pendleton shirt.
- 50:36And it's pretty amazing how these people can just transform
- 50:40into these incredible characters.
- 50:42Corey Burton is an I mean, I, you know, I'm only signaling,
- 50:46singling these people out because they're coming to mind.
- 50:49Fred Tata show are incredible, incredible artists, but we won't
- 50:53get them like this. I don't have to dress like a
- 50:56Chinese bus driver, but I could blame 1, you know, I, I don't
- 50:59have to be from London to play a cockney mobster, you know what I
- 51:03mean? So it's, it's, it's, it's for
- 51:07me, it's, it's kids stuff. It's like, that's what we do as
- 51:09kids, right? We would do all kind of crazy
- 51:11voices and see things and talk real weird and we'd see the
- 51:14cartoons and try to affect that, right?
- 51:16It's just an extension of that. The more you keep that alive,
- 51:19the better you are at your job as far as I'm concerned.
- 51:21Voice over. When you when you, when you see
- 51:22someone that just works in an office, right?
- 51:26Do you want to grab them and shake them and say, you know,
- 51:30although I mean, not everyone has the gift that you have
- 51:32granted I. You know, I don't think anybody
- 51:35just does anything, do they? Yeah.
- 51:37I think that's, that's how I look at it.
- 51:40We just talked about it doesn't matter What Car you drive.
- 51:42You know, you have a, you have a, you have a Gordon Murray
- 51:46special, you know, one of 1/2 of 2, whatever the hell.
- 51:50You know your, your, your diary. Frank, Katie, you roll up.
- 51:53Are you more interesting than the dude who's got the Fiat 129
- 51:59who's like, restored it from the ground up?
- 52:02No, you're not. So it's that, it's that it's who
- 52:05you are, right? That person who's working in the
- 52:07office, maybe they're doing it because, man, they got the thing
- 52:09I got to do. So I don't ever look at it like
- 52:12that. I appreciate the question and I
- 52:14know what you're getting at. I know what you're getting at.
- 52:16I mean, yeah. Do I feel like you need to
- 52:18maximize your life? And I think some of us are not
- 52:21processing it the best that we can.
- 52:24Yes, I do. And I do feel that we need to
- 52:27get out of our comfort zone to appreciate other people, other
- 52:31cultures, other endeavors and other interests.
- 52:34And a great way to do that. Is it what we've been talking
- 52:37about for the last hour? Cars are one of the places
- 52:40where, I mean, you know, I'm an African American too, you know,
- 52:43this is a white female, white male.
- 52:45But we're all talking the same language.
- 52:46We all want to hear each other and be heard.
- 52:50And I think the more places we find that, if it's in the office
- 52:53and you find that camaraderie in that village there, I just think
- 52:57that we're missing it. I think here's what I think.
- 52:59I think that we think it has to be something.
- 53:02And it it, it just is right now. If this is it, you know?
- 53:07This is it. This is it, isn't it?
- 53:09Yeah, that's a great point. You know, I'm just so which, how
- 53:12you gonna play it? Yeah.
- 53:13You're gonna wait. You're gonna wait.
- 53:14You're gonna wait for the moment.
- 53:16So then you wait for those moments.
- 53:17All these moments are going by, which could be the moments
- 53:20they're freaking waiting. For, that's it.
- 53:22Right, we keep going like well, when XYZ and you're like, but
- 53:26no, the moments are all the moments.
- 53:27It's how you. I'd never have a you do it.
- 53:29I'd never have one if it was like, oh, it has to be the right
- 53:32thing and I have to have enough money and I, you know, I got the
- 53:34first kid and I got to own my own first house and.
- 53:36Right. Well, it's like what they say
- 53:38about having kids, right? Like, you can't.
- 53:40There's no perfect time to have kids.
- 53:42We all can relate to that. We're never ready.
- 53:44I'm not. Ready.
- 53:47Now I know. Yeah, it's funny.
- 53:50I got into a Miata for the first time in years and within the 1st
- 53:53500 feet I was laughing out loud.
- 53:55You know, isn't that a an analogy, right?
- 53:59I mean, it's just I don't have ever laughed in my Porsche,
- 54:01right? It's different, you know, it's.
- 54:03Porsche, take note. Kind of all I need to.
- 54:05Do no, it's so good. Our buddy Jay Ryan, he has he
- 54:09would call it dumbed down. He's dumbed down his his 997
- 54:12because he wants the feel of an old air cooled Porsche.
- 54:17So he wants to feel the same thrill at 35 miles an hour that
- 54:21I feel it. You know, whatever in my RA, we
- 54:23had this debate this week and and we're going to see him
- 54:27Sunday at at the Scots in Malibu.
- 54:29So I will tell him that you guys that I do this show.
- 54:32But we talked about he does that to feel exactly what you're
- 54:36talking about, Ryan and the Miata in his Porsche.
- 54:39And he's he's detuning it so that it's not so user friendly
- 54:46and it's more ergonomic and it's more seat of the pants.
- 54:49And so yeah, that that what brings a smile to your face is
- 54:55really what you need to go for. I mean, that brings a smile to
- 54:58his face. And I told him, look, man, I get
- 55:00a smile on my face AT5560007000 RPMS in my 911.
- 55:06That's just crazy fun. And it's I had a blast coming
- 55:11off the on ramp from the Marina Freeway under the four O 5.
- 55:14I'm not going that fast but I'm just feeling I'm hearing this
- 55:17V10 in my RA going bomb bomb bomb.
- 55:21That's all I need. That's.
- 55:22All I need. I'm good.
- 55:23That's a great. Yeah.
- 55:25Good. Yeah.
- 55:27Because it's the experience, right?
- 55:29It's like we've all had the experience of I'm going to turn
- 55:32the radio off so I can just experience my car.
- 55:35And that's one of those moments where you're like, yes, like
- 55:38this is that's the actualization lines up.
- 55:42It is it really is one of the things that we just for fun, we
- 55:47like to ask our guests because Haggerty does something called
- 55:50the bull market list where they talk about cars that are about
- 55:53to start appreciating in value. So here at that car show, we
- 55:58have something called the BS market list.
- 56:00So we would love to hear your two or three suggestions for the
- 56:05BS Market list. And it can be the same criteria
- 56:08as the Haggerty list if you like cars that you think are
- 56:11underappreciated. Or it can be whatever period you
- 56:15like that you feel fits the title of the BS Market list.
- 56:19Oh, that's so wild. And there goes that sponsorship.
- 56:22But you know. Exactly.
- 56:24We love you, Haggerty. Haggerty Yeah, yeah, sorry.
- 56:26I there's, well, I don't know the Haggerty list well.
- 56:30But that's OK, we are creating what?
- 56:32Do I think is the BS list? Yeah, cars you think will go up
- 56:36this year, cars you think we should all be buying, You know,
- 56:38like I I've said, we should all be buying, you know all the
- 56:41clean first Gen. boxers we can find, right, because they don't
- 56:44make cars like that anymore, right?
- 56:45And they can be found for for relative, you know, pennies,
- 56:48right. So that that I guess that's kind
- 56:50of the thought here, like what? What are we missing a mode on?
- 56:53Well I'm an R8 guy so I think people need to get the 1st Gen.
- 56:56R8 gate shift V8. They keep saying they're going
- 57:00to stop the R8 and then they start it again.
- 57:02So I think R8 can be on both lists where that's a great.
- 57:07Key. That's a great answer.
- 57:08They keep cutting the production so then everybody like me thinks
- 57:11my car is going to go up because it's going to stop and then they
- 57:14go, Oh no, but we're going to make a hybrid R8 or they're
- 57:18going to one more year for the twin turbo 660 horsepower, right
- 57:21well. We had Brian, we had that
- 57:22experience with the GT4. What did we have like 24 hours
- 57:26where they were like no more GT Fours and we all went we're like
- 57:30we're not set and then. You were like for the evening,
- 57:33Yeah. And then they're like hybrid,
- 57:37I'm like, yes, whatever they said they cancelled, they
- 57:40retracted their like you guys have the only ones that we're
- 57:43making. So yeah.
- 57:45What now? They're retrofitting the the gas
- 57:47engines, But yeah. No, see, because they know that.
- 57:49Well, I don't know what they know, but what I feel is that
- 57:52the EV it's not ready, not ready yet.
- 57:54We're not ready yet. We don't even know the knock on
- 57:56effect of it. You know, we don't know the
- 57:57knock on effect of storage, battery storage.
- 57:59We just don't, you know, we didn't know the knock on effect
- 58:02of leaded gasoline free the generation, you know what I
- 58:06mean? Yeah.
- 58:07So, so we have to, you know, slow your roll.
- 58:09I mean, all of a sudden, you know, it's, it's just the, the
- 58:11placebo effect. And so everybody's switching to
- 58:14EVs. Audi's going to turn around, You
- 58:17know, Porsche's like, wait a minute.
- 58:19My sure. So I think we got to wait on
- 58:22that stuff. I think cars like the RSGT, the
- 58:27Audi, which I like a lot, but I think they're going to go down
- 58:30like the Ticon. Unfortunately, I don't think
- 58:33people are going to, you know, they're going to turn around on
- 58:37it. I'm going to tell you right now,
- 58:40Audi's going to wish they made that gas version of that the
- 58:42same way Porsche, which is they made a gas version of the Ticon
- 58:46because I'd buy one if there was a gas version of the Ticon now.
- 58:49Do you think it's going to be like a bit of a valley and they
- 58:52will eventually recover? So they might be they.
- 58:55Always do. Future BS list.
- 58:58They always do and they'll come out with some technology that'll
- 59:02like make it easier for us or more palatable or hopefully it
- 59:06won't be just a marketing ploy and it really be with the
- 59:08technology that that moves us forward.
- 59:10I just don't think the EV is moving us forward like they want
- 59:13it to. My opinion Hybrid, What else?
- 59:16What's your perfect automotive day?
- 59:18You get up, it's, you know, the Saturday morning weather's
- 59:21beautiful. You live near the ocean, if I
- 59:22recall. So you know, where do you head
- 59:25from there? Do you go up the coast?
- 59:27Do you? Yeah.
- 59:27Well, now it's kind of sad because the coast is tough, you
- 59:30know, going up the coast is tough drive.
- 59:32I've lived here my whole life, basically.
- 59:34And most of my friends who did well, they moved to the
- 59:36Palisades where they moved to Malibu.
- 59:38So a lot of my friends were showing pictures of their houses
- 59:40gone in front of properties are no longer right.
- 59:42So it's kind of it's a little difficult on my spirit going up
- 59:46the coast sometimes Now it's getting easier and easier, but
- 59:48it's still a bit of a a slog because you can't really drive
- 59:51it. They want you to go 25.
- 59:53So it's not as unpalatable when you get north of like Pepperdine
- 59:58University then then it, then it opens up and it's an amazing and
- 1:00:02then the coast of. Well, and it's the same.
- 1:00:04Coast is so insane. That that section of it has not
- 1:00:07changed. That's all the same.
- 1:00:08It has been affected, you know, it's.
- 1:00:10Yeah, in your. Areas to the South.
- 1:00:12The shock of it is not as much as it was initially, but it's
- 1:00:16still just sort of because it's such a change.
- 1:00:20But what's going to happen with all that?
- 1:00:22It's going to be incredible. The development's going to be
- 1:00:24weird. It's never going to be the same.
- 1:00:26Your houses, you cannot rebuild the way they were built.
- 1:00:28You know, developers will come in and they'll kind of cookie
- 1:00:31cutter a lot of stuff because it'll be easier to build that
- 1:00:33way. Cheaper insurance companies will
- 1:00:35go for that. So that's what will happen.
- 1:00:38It won't be as as as quaint as it was.
- 1:00:42Malibu was quaint, believe it or not.
- 1:00:43Palisades even more quaint, believe it or not.
- 1:00:46Yes, exactly. But my favorite car day is
- 1:00:49honestly going up to Newcomb's. It's going up Angela's Crest
- 1:00:51Highway. I, Jay and I say it all the
- 1:00:54time. We kind of almost don't need to
- 1:00:55go to the track anymore. Not because we're, we're not
- 1:00:59racing. We drive spiritedly.
- 1:01:01We do not race. I do not race.
- 1:01:03You know, if there's somebody comes up behind me, I have
- 1:01:05Johnny Lieberman's law, which is pull over.
- 1:01:07Yeah. Doesn't matter how fast you are,
- 1:01:09you weren't going fast enough. Just pull over.
- 1:01:11Don't now start going faster because they're up on you and
- 1:01:14you woke up or whatever. Just pull over, you know, and
- 1:01:18don't hammer them if they're not getting out of the way.
- 1:01:20That's not your business to do. So I have a really nuanced
- 1:01:23etiquette about the mountain and I love it and I can drive it
- 1:01:27just for flow. I can drive it just to work on
- 1:01:30my left left foot braking. I can drive it for a lot of
- 1:01:34different disciplines that I can't get anywhere else in the
- 1:01:36city, just can't It's. An objectively great Rd.
- 1:01:40Like it's got a little bit of every, I mean, you know, better
- 1:01:43than than I. Yeah, you know, it's just a
- 1:01:44great Rd. And Nine mile if you try.
- 1:01:47Yeah. If you go up on upper to Honda
- 1:01:49and you go up 9 mile that you know that you really want to
- 1:01:51drive a road that's like that's it.
- 1:01:56Yeah, that's that's it. That's one of that.
- 1:01:58And 198 Highway 198, two my favorite roads in the.
- 1:02:02World and I think one of the things that is hard to put into
- 1:02:04words when people maybe aren't from Southern California or
- 1:02:07haven't had the chance to come and visit and go up there to
- 1:02:10truly understand you're not that far like time and distance.
- 1:02:15You're not that far from downtown LA or other areas of
- 1:02:18LA, but you are so far, you know, environmental.
- 1:02:23I mean, you're up in the mountains.
- 1:02:25And that was one of the things that struck me the first time I
- 1:02:27went up where it's like, you know, if you squint really hard
- 1:02:29on a couple places you can find downtown on the way up.
- 1:02:33But you get up there and it really is like birds singing.
- 1:02:37It's quiet, you can smell the pine, it's mountain air.
- 1:02:41And then you can drop right back down into the city.
- 1:02:43And I think that's one of the things that's been such a draw
- 1:02:46for so many people because it is such a reset.
- 1:02:49And that's an amazing Rd. getting there.
- 1:02:52No, all of that is true. It's so accessible and, and
- 1:02:56there really is, you know, respect the Crest is, is very
- 1:02:58important for all of us. And you know, no matter who we
- 1:03:01are, no matter what your skill level, no matter what you drive,
- 1:03:03anything can happen at any time. You just have to have your head
- 1:03:05on a swivel and eyes wide open. And when you do that, then
- 1:03:08you'll have a great time. And did I show you the video of
- 1:03:13the, the rattlesnake? Yes.
- 1:03:15So talk about wildlife. So you know, it's it's nature up
- 1:03:19there. No bathrooms up there.
- 1:03:20So just say then you're put in the bathroom.
- 1:03:22You know, the bathrooms open-ended, the VIP rooms always
- 1:03:25open. So I'm to use in the VIP
- 1:03:26bathroom and, and I, I hear this sound and I, I look over and it
- 1:03:31looks like a squirrel like is looking at me.
- 1:03:33And I look up. No, it's not a squirrel.
- 1:03:35It's a rattlesnake, and it's 10 feet from me.
- 1:03:40And, you know, I kind of handle it and I take out my phone and I
- 1:03:43film it. And this rattlesnake is 10 feet
- 1:03:46long, huge. And as it passes my camera, you
- 1:03:49see the rattle just out of frame.
- 1:03:52And that was like, that's Newcomb's man.
- 1:03:54You're going to see deer are going to run across the road at
- 1:03:57any time. So be careful.
- 1:03:59You know, you can go up there. It can be snowy up there.
- 1:04:01It's it's nature. Phil, I love that your first
- 1:04:05thought was to take out your your phone and I.
- 1:04:08I couldn't believe it. I was like, I knew I was safe
- 1:04:11because it had turned around. I'm like, Oh my God.
- 1:04:12I got it. Yeah, nobody.
- 1:04:14That's intense. I'd want to share you.
- 1:04:18Know you know I I posted it immediately I was like look what
- 1:04:21happened up there they're. Like listen, this is what I do
- 1:04:23for you guys for the gram. Like I've put my life at risk to
- 1:04:27capture the rest. Yes, you're welcome.
- 1:04:30We appreciate the effort. And cell phone doesn't work up
- 1:04:33there, can't call anybody. Right.
- 1:04:35I think that adds to it. Yeah, that's that's amazing.
- 1:04:39Yeah, well, and there, I mean, there's been so many stories
- 1:04:41where something has happened farther down the mountain.
- 1:04:43I think there was one where the road was shut down and a handful
- 1:04:46of people had come up and they couldn't figure out why nobody
- 1:04:49else was arriving. They're like, gosh, it's a
- 1:04:51really light morning. Until they tried to get down the
- 1:04:53mountain and realized people had tried but couldn't because like
- 1:04:57you said, stuff happens. Stuff happens.
- 1:05:01It's crazy. Well, we have loved having you
- 1:05:05on. We will not keep you longer
- 1:05:08tonight, but we'd love to have you come back but.
- 1:05:10Can we This is? Great.
- 1:05:12What are what do you have coming up where people can see you in
- 1:05:16action? I am on The Upshaws, which is on
- 1:05:20Netflix with Wanda Sykes, Mike Epps and Kim Fields.
- 1:05:24So that's running right now. We finished that last season,
- 1:05:27but the new they hadn't run it yet, so it's brand new season.
- 1:05:30And then I'm also doing Fire Country for CBS, which is great.
- 1:05:34So I get comedy in the drama, which is wonderful.
- 1:05:37I'm doing a couple of NDA things that we'll talk about at a later
- 1:05:41date, but they're very cool. Oh my gosh, I love them.
- 1:05:44I do. I do another show which is not
- 1:05:46NDA called Phineas and Ferb, which is a cartoon that's been
- 1:05:49on forever. And I do what's called a wheel
- 1:05:51of voices. So I'll play any of a number of
- 1:05:54fun, crazy voices on there. And I just love those creators.
- 1:05:58You know, everything I do is just fun.
- 1:06:00I just I just go and try to have the most fun I can and it seems
- 1:06:03to be working out. Well, we all want to grow up.
- 1:06:05And you got to figure it out, yeah.
- 1:06:07A little bit, a little bit, a little bit, a little bit.
- 1:06:10So tell us where people can find you on social media in addition
- 1:06:15to obviously. The Phil Morris at D Phil Morris
- 1:06:18everywhere Facebook, Meta X Instagram, every all that I'm at
- 1:06:23D Phil Morris. So check me out.
- 1:06:26I'm not conventions. I've been doing a lot of
- 1:06:27conventions. I was just in Washington state
- 1:06:28last weekend, Rewind Washington and I like to talk to the fans
- 1:06:31and meet them. A lot of what I do is over the
- 1:06:34air, so I don't get a chance to really hear or feel the
- 1:06:36resonance of the performances. So conventions are a good way to
- 1:06:40do that. And to meet this people who
- 1:06:43literally pay my salary because they turn on the TV or go to the
- 1:06:46movies or buy the video games or buy the audiobooks.
- 1:06:49And that's lovely. I love it.
- 1:06:51I love it. I, I, I, I'm worn out every day
- 1:06:53because I just, I don't sit down.
- 1:06:55I talk to whoever comes over, you know, I go walk around to
- 1:06:58see my friends and hang out with, you know, other artists or
- 1:07:01celebrities or sports people. So that's pretty prominent right
- 1:07:05now on my journey as the convention circuit.
- 1:07:07I love that. Well, I think that that
- 1:07:09illustrates kind of what it's like to be friends with you as
- 1:07:12you are so enthusiastic and you give everything and then, yeah,
- 1:07:17we're not at the end of the day. Yeah, go to sleep.
- 1:07:21Yeah, good. Tired.
- 1:07:22Yeah. Good time, guys.
- 1:07:23I appreciate you so much. Appreciate it.
- 1:07:25Thanks so much, Phil. This has.
- 1:07:27Been really fun and you know, thank you to everyone for tuning
- 1:07:31in. I hope you've enjoyed the
- 1:07:32conversation with Phil. Obviously, he's got some amazing
- 1:07:35stories and you can come back and share more.
- 1:07:38And we'd love to hear about the new projects as soon as you can
- 1:07:40talk about them. For the meantime, thank you
- 1:07:43everybody for joining us. Please remember to like and
- 1:07:46subscribe and tell your enthusiast friends and until
- 1:07:49next week where that car show and remember always be driving.
