- 0:07Speaking to you once again from Cleveland's Municipal Stadium where we're just moments away from the opening kickoff of this game between the Cleveland Browns and the New York Jets.
- 0:15Right now, the Drum and Bugle Corps from Marion, Ohio, getting ready to raise the stars and stripes as we will have our national anthem in front of this capacity crowd of about 82,000, 83,000.
- 0:28They reached the standing room only sale sometime about four or five o'clock this afternoon, so they knew they had sold out and they started selling the standing room tickets then.
- 0:43And they should reach for the 13th straight time a crowd of 80,000 or more. It should number between 82 and 83,000.
- 0:51And among these 82,000 plus is the Commissioner of Football, Pete Rozell.
- 0:58While we have a moment here before our national anthem and before the teams are introduced, the referee is Norm Shackton. The umpire is Jerry Hart.
- 1:05The headlinesman is Roy Sonnenberg and your line judge is Jack Fetty. John Fouts is your back judge and your field judge is George Ellis.
- 1:13So we'll be ready with the opening kickoff in just one minute.

- 2:07It's as simple as that.
- 2:10Mercury makes better cars.
- 2:14At the sign of a cat.
- 2:17There is a certain amount of reaction from the crowd here as several of the New York Jetball players came out of the dugouts on the far side of the field.
- 2:32And when the fans saw them, they received the usual anything but a lot of reception.
- 2:40And now the introduction of the New York Jets and I imagine they will go with the offensive team since the Jets will take over first and receive the kickoff.
- 2:49And here comes John Smith, the center, number 52 in the seventh year from Hofstra.
- 2:55He's followed by the left guard Randy Rasmussen in his fourth year from Kearney State.
- 2:59Here comes the right guard Dave Herman, number 67 in his seventh year from Michigan State.
- 3:05Number 75, the left tackle is Winston Hill, eighth year from Texas Southern.
- 3:09The right tackle is Roger Finney, second year from Florida A&M.
- 3:13Here comes the split left end George Sauer, sixth year from Texas, number 83.
- 3:18Pete Lamons is the tight end, fifth year from Texas.
- 3:23Here comes Don Maynard, the flanker in his twelfth year from Texas Western.
- 3:27And here comes Emerson Boozer, the left half from Maryland State, one of the running backs, followed by Matt Snell.
- 3:33Here comes Joe Namath.
- 3:41Joe Namath on just about a... from the ten yard line up to the 40, took his time.
- 3:48You know the reception he got.
- 3:49Now there's a general introduction for the Cleveland Browns, and now they'll be introduced defensively and individual.
- 3:58Ron Snydall, eighth year from Oregon, the left end comes onto the field, followed by Walter Johnson, sixth year, Los Angeles State.
- 4:07Here comes the rookie Jerry Scherk, and he must have butterflies in his stomach.
- 4:11Oklahoma State and Jack Gregory, the right end from Delta State in his fourth year.
- 4:17He's followed by John Darlington, the left linebacker in his third year from LSU, and here comes Captain Jim Houston, eleventh year, Ohio State.
- 4:25On the right side of the linebackers is Dale Lindsey, sixth year from Western Kentucky.
- 4:33Here comes Air H. Barnes, left cornerback, this is Air H. Barnes, thirteenth year from Purdue, he gets a rousing reception.
- 4:40Any second year from Florida, Walt Sumner, number 29.
- 4:47Here comes Ernie Kellerman, the left safety, he is the strong side safety fifth year from Miami, followed by Mike Howe, sixth year, rambling, and here come the Cleveland Browns.
- 5:00Well sir, you can get an idea of the tempo, and right now with the Browns starting unit at the center of the field, the rest of the team coming onto the sidelines,
- 5:10we're going to have a choral group singing the national anthem, and then this ballgame will get underway.
- 5:18Ladies and gentlemen, here now is our national anthem.
- 5:22A song of the
- 5:32Following the
- 5:40following the
- 6:19O come, all ye faithful, in the name of the Lord.
- 6:30It's the Jam-packed House, ladies and gentlemen.
- 6:37We've had the Lord's Prayer played by the Marion, Ohio Drum and Bugle Corps.
- 6:41We've had the National Anthem is sung by the George Stone Singers,
- 6:45a popular male chorus out of Cleveland, Ohio.
- 6:48The director is Mr. George Stone. You just heard them.
- 6:51We'll have a reenactment of the flip of the coin with the referee Norm Schachter.
- 6:55And representing the New York Jets is their outstanding middle linebacker, Al Atkinson.
- 6:59Is their captain in the Browns, at least, at the initial flip of the coin.
- 7:03Had just two captains for tonight's game, Leroy Kelly offensively and Jim Houston defensively.
- 7:09Sometimes Blanton Collier, as you know, appoints a special teams captain.
- 7:13Tonight I think they will go out with just two of them.
- 7:16Those Jets did win the flip of the coin and they'll be moving away from the bleachers.
- 7:20As the Browns and the New York Jets get off on this first Monday night game,
- 7:25it's the first for the Browns as far as the old All-American or American football conference is concerned, I should say.
- 7:32And it's the first time the Browns have met the Jets.
- 7:34Although we mentioned earlier the Jets did show here two years ago in the first game of the doubleheader.
- 7:40And in that one Joe Namath played about a quarter and a half, as I recall.
- 7:44Joe came into camp late, even later than most of these striking veterans.
- 7:48But he has come on strong in games and looked very good against the Dallas Cowboys.
- 7:52He is completing about 50 to 51 percent of his passes.
- 7:56They had earlier behind Joe Namath, Dave Perilli, whom they let go.
- 8:01And Joe has behind him a quarterback from Duke by the name of Al Woodard.
- 8:07And Jim Turner is also a quarterback, but he hasn't had any experience or any action this year.
- 8:14He is their place kicker.
- 8:17He had the three field goals in the Super Bowl, an outstanding place kicker.
- 8:21And Tom O'Neill does their punning.
- 8:24As you know, this past week, Don Koffra, off the last of the Browns to be unsigned, he wasn't holding out.
- 8:30He was just unsigned, came to terms.
- 8:32Here comes Joe Namath across the field with Al Atkinson and out to greet them, Jim Houston and Leroy Kelly Norm Schachter,
- 8:38to do the usual introductions and the flip of the coin.
- 8:41I don't even think they flip it on this reenactment because they know what it is.
- 8:44This is for the benefit of the crowd that comes late.
- 8:48And the Browns are receiving their final instructions from Blanton Collier, who said hello to Weeb Eubank.
- 8:54Weeb Eubank on the far side now has split his huddle.
- 8:57He is wearing his coat now.
- 8:59Blanton Collier is in his shirt sleeves. The captains come back to their respective huddles.
- 9:03And the New York Jets line up with their kickoff return unit.
- 9:08When the Browns are receiving tonight, Homer Jones, this is a change in their previous games,
- 9:13Homer Jones will be on the kickoff return unit.
- 9:17Number 85, and as we mentioned, should Gary Collins go out of this ballgame because of his bad leg,
- 9:22Fairhooker goes to the right and Homer Jones to the left.
- 9:25The Browns are now taking the field and Don Cockroft has the ball on the 40-yard line.
- 9:30It's a muggy night. Temperatures at about 82, 83 degrees.
- 9:34There is a considerable wind, but you can't tell which way it's blowing because the one end of the field,
- 9:39it goes one way and on the other end it goes the other.
- 9:42That's what happens when you have stadiums built like this stadium and the wind swirls.
- 9:46We're all set for action. Don Cockroft, the 1970 season, getting underway for the Browns and the Jets.
- 9:52Here to call the game for you as usual is Gibb Shanley.
- 9:55Thank you, Jim Greiner. Good evening, everyone.
- 9:57Number 37, George Knox. Number 40, Mike Battle at the goal line.
- 10:00The kick by Cockroft, a little short, taken by Battle at the 5, to the 10, up the middle.
- 10:0415, putty. Gets away for one man. Hurls another at the 30 and gets knocked down at the 33-yard line.
- 10:09Mike Howell is one of the boys on the tackle.
- 10:11Juan Freddy Summers is the other. 28-yard return.
- 10:15Ball on about the 33 and a half.
- 10:17Jim gave you the starting lineups. That's the way they come out on the field.
- 10:24Joe Namath, the quarterback. Emerson Boozer, number 32. Matt Snell, number 41, the running backs.
- 10:30The wide receivers are George Sauer and Don Maynard and Pete Lamons is the slot in.
- 10:35We have Maynard flanked to the right. Sauer splits 5 yards at left end.
- 10:40Lamond's out about a yard and a half at right end.
- 10:44Snell now moves over, lines up right behind Namath.
- 10:48He gets the handoff, tries right tackle, cuts to the outside, is hit by John Garlington and slammed down on the 36-yard line.
- 10:56Mike Howell helped on it, but the left side of Snydo and Johnson fogged up any hole that was supposed to be there.
- 11:03Nose of the ball spotted on the 37-yard line. Gain of about 4.
- 11:09Snell tried to go off tackle to his right, then tried to go outside when he was stopped, but Snydo turned it in.
- 11:17Sauer has split about 7 to the left. Maynard now flanking out to the right.
- 11:21Lamond's out about a yard at right end, now moves in a half step.
- 11:25Handoff, Boozer, left tackle, hits the 40 to about the 41-yard line. Jerry Shirk hanging on, pulls him down.
- 11:32John Garlington and a sister on the stop. Ball is over the 40-yard line, about the 40 and a half.
- 11:37Randy Rasmussen, the left guard, led the blocking. Gain of about 3.
- 11:41We have about 3 and a half yards to go yet for a first down.
- 11:45Typical for a passing team, Gibb, that starts out running just to show the opposition that they can stay on the ground and move it.
- 11:52Maynard flank right. Sauer splits 7 to the left.
- 11:58Ground showing a six-man front. Namath throwing, screen left lap drop.
- 12:03By Matt Stahle, he goes back after, but it's an incomplete pass. Namath threw it in front of him, not a lateral.
- 12:10A hand for the Browns defensive unit as the Jets have to punt.
- 12:23And to do the punting is O'Neill.
- 12:26Leroy Kelly is going back and punt return here. Right, with Walt Sumner at the 20.
- 12:34Sumner now for around the 25. Both starting to drop back. A whistle blows as the ball is snapped. We'll do it again.
- 12:41Five yard penalty against the Jets.
- 12:56The illegal procedure.
- 13:01Sumner and Kelly now back between the 35 and the 25.
- 13:07Good snap. Kick is up. Not too good a kick. Short off the right side of his foot. Now it takes a New York bounce at the 30-20.
- 13:18But I believe somebody may have touched it up at the 30-yard line.
- 13:23Must have touched one of the Jets. That'll be a 35-yard punt.
- 13:29And the Browns, they're going to call it a flag. He originally dropped his hat, which you were right, but now a flag went down and they assessed a 15-yard penalty.
- 13:41Interference against the Jets and the Browns have it on the 45-yard line in New York.
- 13:47Originally his hat went down, yet. They don't call that very often.
- 13:52All right, the Browns of course have Nelson at quarterback. Gary Collins the flanker. Fair hooker is split in.
- 14:00Milt Moran is the tight end. They're in the eye and shift out of it.
- 14:04Hooker now moves out seven yards split to the left. Moran out about a yard at right end and Collins flank right.
- 14:09And the fake handoff. Nelson the throw. Grills one. It is bought.
- 14:14At the giant, the Jet 43-yard line, Milt Moran with W.K. Hicks hanging on his back.
- 14:22The Browns tackles are Dick Shafrath and Joe Taffoni, John DeMari and Gene Hickerson are the guards.
- 14:28Fred Hoagland's the center. That's a 13-yard pick-up ball spotted on the 42 of the Jets.
- 14:33The Jets up front have Mark Lomas, a rookie at left end, Steve Thompson at left tackle, John Elliott at right tackle, Verland Biggs at right end.
- 14:41We'll get the rest in a moment as the Browns are out of the huddle. First down and ten.
- 14:44High formation. They go from it. Both Scott over right guard. Not much of a hole.
- 14:49I doubt they even got back to the line of scrimmage. Steve Thompson on the stop.
- 14:54Along with Al Atkinson, the middle linebacker. They give him about a half-yard loss on the play.
- 15:01The linebackers left to right are Ralph Baker, Al Atkinson and Larry Grantham.
- 15:05The cornerbacks are rookie Steve Cannon at the left side, rookie Early Thomas on the right side.
- 15:10The safeties are W.K. Hicks and Jim Hudson.
- 15:16Second, about ten and a half to go. Browns in the eye. Both ends are in.
- 15:23Collins now moves out to the left. Split end. The slot left is Fairhooker.
- 15:29Handoff. Kelly over left tackle. Pick opener to the 40. He's to the 35. Close to the 34-yard line.
- 15:35Verland Biggs on the tackle. John Demare, the left guard, cleared the hole.
- 15:40That's good for... They'll mark it on the 35-yard line.
- 15:45It'll be third and about three. Seven-yard pick up.
- 15:50Nelson has come up with some nice play calling, although he's only called three plays.
- 15:54But that pass to Milton Moran was off the play action and it took the linebackers,
- 15:59kept the linebackers up and honest and then put him in his area.
- 16:02And then he put Gary Collins and Fairhooker on the same side and up the center of the seven-yard pick up.
- 16:07Hooker, blank left. Collins, split five to the right. And both cornerbacks right up on the line now for the Jets.
- 16:12Handoff. Kelly on the draw. Tafel over left tackle. He's to about the 31-yard line. First down.
- 16:18Biggs and Elliott on the tackle. Shafrath and Demare let's block it.
- 16:27Back the ball on the 31 of the Jets. 10-35 to play first quarter. No score. Jets had it for three and a punt.
- 16:36Bounce started at the room. Well, they got the punt on the 30. There was a penalty up at the 45-yard line.
- 16:41And a move from there. Actually, that ball would have been back on the 10-yard line.
- 16:45They gained 35 yards because of the man hitting the ball on the penalty.
- 16:50Running from the eye, give to Kelly and no gain on the play.
- 16:55Thompson, they left tackle on the stop. Bounds have not been able to move from the eye formation in two tries.
- 17:01But hardly is an indication of anything.
- 17:05Well, so far he hasn't tested the cornerbacks. Maybe they were expecting that because as we mentioned, they are the rookies.
- 17:11But so far, Bill Nelson has not tested either one of them. His one pass has gone over the medium center.
- 17:17And he stayed on the ground the rest of the time.
- 17:20Collins, split seven to the right. Hooker, flank to the left. Morin out about a half yard at left end.
- 17:27Take to Kelly. Screen to the left. The ball stopped. 35. He's got a convoy to the 25, to the 20, to the 15.
- 17:33He's to the 10. He's out of bounds on the nine.
- 17:42Early Thomas wrestling out of bounds with Al Atkinson's help.
- 17:46To Morin, Hickerson and Cofone, the convoy.
- 17:50Jets were completely full on it. They went for the fake to Leroy Kelly.
- 17:54Ball on about the nine and a half yard line. First down and goal to go.
- 17:59And actually the pass was thrown a little behind Scott. He almost lost it. Then almost stumbled.
- 18:04I think if he'd put his head down at the 10, he could have almost gone in for the touchdown.
- 18:09Bounds out, a huddle in the eye with Collins, split seven to the right.
- 18:13Shifting now, Collins flank right. Both ends in for the Browns.
- 18:19Give the ball, Scott hitting left tackle to the nine. That's it.
- 18:22Caught by Verland Biggs, the veteran of the Jets defensive line and right end.
- 18:28And Kelly, I doubt got a yard on it. No, about a half yard at best.
- 18:35Second and goal.
- 18:37Well, Jim, you talk about the cornerbacks, the Jets might be doubling up a little to help those rookies.
- 18:43And that may leave something else open.
- 18:45That could be very likely. And especially the linebackers can go over.
- 18:49Because as you mentioned, they're just like the rest of the cornerbacks in this conference.
- 18:53They're playing right on the line of scrimmage, nose to nose against those wide receivers.
- 18:57And they are right now as Collins flanks right.
- 19:00Hand off to Kelly, right tackle, cuts back into the eight, driven down hard.
- 19:04Beautiful tackle by Ralph Baker, caught him right in the midsection and slammed him down with Al Atkinson hitting low.
- 19:11Kelly gets a yard, third and goal. The ball on the New York eight.
- 19:15With eight and a half minutes to play in a scoreless first period.
- 19:23And traffic is still lined up for miles.
- 19:26Don Cockroft has his helmet on and he's exercising that foot.
- 19:30Undoubtedly at this stage of the game, if they can't pick it up now and they got good yardage on the third and goal, they would go for the field goal.
- 19:38All right, ends are in. As the eye, they shift out of it.
- 19:42Collins will be split about 10 yards left and Hooker is slot left.
- 19:46And then the ball to Warren, tied it right in. Nelson to throw. He looks, he throws. Touchdown to Gary Collins!
- 20:07Collins beat rookie right cornerback, early Thomas. Seven fifty-six remaining first quarter. Don Cockroft into attempt to point.
- 20:17Fifty-five yards and nine plays. The holder, Mike Fitz at the ten.
- 20:24The snap, the spot, the kick, it's good. There's an official timeout on the field to score the Browns seven, the Jets nothing.
- 20:33Nick Amster's clothing in Worcester is right on with the unsuit look, the latest clothing creations for you young men.
- 20:41The S.E.W.S. revolution has never been more relevant than right now with the opening of Barneys Inn at Nick Amster's.

- 21:08So do your own thing with your wardrobe at Barneys Inn. Choose from suede and cowhides, wool herringbones, denims, cotton velvets, corduroys, skinny rib nets, tweeds, tuck threads for you under thirty guys.
- 21:19Go funky formal with the unsuit look at Barneys Inn and Nick Amster's. Make it with a now scene in style.
- 21:24Today's new look geared to the young man who knows what's happening and where it's at. It's all at Barneys Inn at Nick Amster's in Worcester.
- 21:35Give on that touchdown. They put Gary Collins out as a flanker and they slotted Fair Hooker in the same area and then the free safety came over to help either one and Fair Hooker was going to the outside, Collins to the post.
- 21:47And the free safety, Jim Hudson, went with a double coverage on Hooker allowing single coverage on Gary Collins and no one can cover him on that post pattern by himself.
- 21:57So with seven fifty six remaining, the Browns go up fifty five yards and nine plays. Here's Don Cockleaw's first kickoff of the evening.
- 22:05Knock and battle are the deep men.
- 22:07Penalty on the kickoff. Knock has it at the five ten fifteen twenty right sideline. Oh did he get hit at the twenty five yard line.
- 22:17Good old face bar. Tom Guttler along with Billy Andrews and Bob Mathison. We may have the Browns offside.
- 22:31It was dropped at about the forty five. The Browns forty five. Joe Namath is.
- 22:41And some of the Browns kickoff team is coming back.
- 22:46It is offside against the Browns and the Jets have accepted the penalty. So Don Cockleaw will try it from this time the thirty five and they returned it to the twenty five.
- 22:55Let's see if it's wise. Sometimes these things pay off. Sometimes they don't.
- 23:02From up here the wind would be at Don's back. As I mentioned that might be different on the field.
- 23:08Although I do think the flags on the field are flying west.
- 23:16The Jets have had it just once tonight had two plays on the ground a pass in completion and they punted they're going to get it the second time right now.
- 23:27Knock and battle new up to the five yard line now.
- 23:32Well hit knock under it again at the five drops it picks it up at the five ten fifteen right sideline. He hit hard again on the twenty three.
- 23:42The Jets have it some of the Browns say the Browns recovered it but the referee is right on the spot.
- 23:48Bob Matheson is a man who made the tackle. Seventeen yard return ball on the twenty two yard line.
- 24:01Well they lost three yards on the second kick almost lost the ball.
- 24:06Maynard is the flanker to the right. Lamins out about a yard at right end and Sowers with five six seven yards of left in.
- 24:13Boozer and Snell the running backs give the smell left tackle breaks open at the twenty five thirty spins away to the thirty five yard line.
- 24:22Sumner and Howell made the tackle.
- 24:25Thirteen yard pick up as they split Gregory and Johnson.
- 24:30I'm sorry Gregory and shirt boy and all of a sudden give it looked like he was just going to hit the line of scrimmage as soon as he got there.
- 24:37He had that opening and it did open up big for 13 yards to the thirty five.
- 24:44Maynard flank right. Lamins out about a yard at right end. Sowers put five of the left name at the throw.
- 24:49The players it is caught at the forty nine yard line. It's Maynard and Ernie Kellerman drags him down.
- 25:00That'll be another first down. That's good for about 14.
- 25:03Ernie had real good coverage on Maynard on that play too.
- 25:06But remember you're up against Maynard you're up against name it Nathan.
- 25:09I was one of the faster ones that he throws and he spiked that right in there on the button which is an unusual for Broadway Joe.
- 25:17Now we have sour as a flanker to the left and Maynard split about five to the right and Lamins out about a yard at left end.
- 25:27And off Boozer left tackle no hole hit down at the line of scrimmage by Jack Gregory.
- 25:33Gregory was fighting off the block of Dave Herman and hit Boozer right at the ankle and upset him. No game second and ten.
- 25:43Five forty seven to play first period seven nothing Cleveland Maynard is flanked to the right.
- 25:51Sowers split seven at left in. Moves in now a couple of steps.
- 25:58I'll move back out again.
- 26:01Namath hands off on the draw to Snell. Shirk's got him at the 50 and hauls him down.
- 26:06Jerry Shirk former wrestling champion wrestled Matt Snell down. Walter Johnson had an assist.
- 26:14It'll be third and nine at the 50.
- 26:22Maybe it just looks it up here.
- 26:23Yeah but it looks like name it had that ball way out in front of him that which takes away the deception of a handoff like that.
- 26:28But maybe down on the field it's different.
- 26:30I don't know but it was obvious up here he stuck it way out.
- 26:37Maynard will flank right.
- 26:40Sauer out seven to the left. Lamans out of yard at right in name of the throw.
- 26:44That drills it. It is out of bounds and deflected out of bounds in a beautiful play by Walt Sumner intended for Sauer at the Browns 35 yard line and Sumner just got his hand up to flick it out of bounds.
- 26:56The Jets will have to punt. Boy and name of that download that because he got a great rush from Jack Gregory the defensive right end.
- 27:04Steve O'Neill will punt for New York.
- 27:07Walt Sumner back in single safety at the moment.
- 27:11I don't see.
- 27:13Reese Morrison this time is going back with him.
- 27:17Kick is up.
- 27:19Little short fair catch held by Sumner at the 16 yard line.
- 27:26There's an official timeout on the field with the score the Browns seven the Jets nothing.

- 28:53Get a break after this play Collins has split seven yards to the right now moves back as a flanker the Browns get out of the eye hookers split about five at left in and off the Kelly sweeping right and get the block from both Scott hits the 20 and down.
- 29:06About the 24 yard line joked a phony through another block.
- 29:09John Elliott made the tackle.
- 29:13Not too bad a block by both Scott.
- 29:17That'll be a pickup of about a second and two.
- 29:24Five carries 20 yards per Kelly.
- 29:32Four minutes five seconds to play first quarter seven nothing Cleveland Browns out of the huddle.
- 29:39Mr. Break didn't do that for this one.
- 29:42Booker is flank left Nelson to throw.
- 29:46By a little short to love a post got up at the 30 yard line incomplete Baker covering the linebacker 10 seconds for station identification.
- 29:54This is the Cleveland Browns football network.
- 29:56High School the College of Worcester Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns football on WWS T. F. M. stereo in Worcester.
- 30:10Yeah, both his running backs crossing on that when he had Scott coming the sideline tele going over towards the middle and both of them happen to be open he chose Scott and just overthrowing by a matter of a foot or two.
- 30:22They have a third down and still to go.
- 30:26Ends are in Collins a wing left.
- 30:30Kelly right tackle up and over and I believe he has it close to the 27 yard line.
- 30:36Steve Thompson and John Elliott the two tackles and Al Atkins in the middle linebacker on the stop center Fred Hogan helped clear out the path and we'll measure.
- 30:46Well if this series started on just about the 16 and looks pretty good from up here.
- 30:52Give us not exactly right opposite but enough that the first down.
- 31:02Couple of feet to spare and a timeout an official timeout on the field with the score around seven the Jets nothing.
- 31:13This area's most complete lumber yard is the Worcester Lumber Company.
- 31:17The big inventory there saves you a lot of time and money and the friendly folks at Worcester Lumber try their best to do both for you.
- 31:24Louie Carter has a couple of predictions which should interest anyone considering building this year.
- 31:29First of all it'll cost considerably more to build during the latter part of this year than it does right now.
- 31:34Another observation by Louie merits the thought should a housing boom develop but building materials will become very scarce and so it would seem the better plan of action will be to make your plans now for any building you plan to do this year.
- 31:47If you decide to save money by doing all or part of your building yourself then Worcester Lumber is the place to buy those materials.
- 31:53They'll help you select the correct materials and save you both time and money.
- 31:57If you need it for building Worcester Lumber Company has it. Store hours are 730 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. On Saturday they're open from 730 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon.
- 32:07Get those building supplies now and beat the price rise.
- 32:12Browns had four first downs including the one on the touchdown they just picked up one.
- 32:18For five for the evening they have the ball on their own twenty seven with three thirty seven remaining in the first period the eight yard pass from Nelson to Collins Cockroft conversion came at seven fifty six.
- 32:29When we give you time that is time left.
- 32:32And coming back into the head of the grand from a linebacker for the Jets he is the defensive signal caller.
- 32:41Down to the twenty seven their own twenty seven Collins with five to the right.
- 32:48Booker flank left no more and with a couple of yards left in.
- 32:55Give to Kelly left tackle.
- 32:57He's in at the 30 it's close to the 31 Ralph Baker left linebacker on the tackle along with Jim Hudson.
- 33:04Up from safety pick up three three and a half.
- 33:15That was with a seven nothing lead first quarter and we have three ten remaining in the period.
- 33:19Bill Nelson has had a third down situation three times in the period he's connected on all three of them.
- 33:25Jets have missed both of theirs.
- 33:29Collins.
- 33:34Now plank right as more and comes out of the eyes they slot in hookers with seven of the left.
- 33:40Give to Kelly trying to sweep right in.
- 33:43He is hit for a loss back on the twenty nine yard line by Al Atkinson who helped not only string out the play make the stop and Michael almost the defensive left end to held up most of the Browns blocking.
- 33:54The loss of almost two and it's third down eight to go.
- 34:02Nelson has thrown four times just four times out of 14 offensive plays as Kelly has carried eight or pick up a twenty five.
- 34:09Scott has rushed for two teams sort of probing here in the first period.
- 34:21Collins split forward to the right hooker flank left more and splits to the left.
- 34:26Nelson to throw.
- 34:29He drills in the middle.
- 34:32In appearance Collins was given an elbow at the 48 yard line by Hicks number 33 as he went behind him.
- 34:42The ball wasn't that close to Gary but of course the defensive back didn't see it but Hicks gave him an elbow in the back to knock him off stride and the ball was in the air at the time.
- 34:51So it's a first down at the Cleveland forty seven.
- 34:56Eighteen yard penalty.
- 35:08One fifty eight remaining first period.
- 35:12Hooker is playing to the left.
- 35:14Collins splits forward to the right more and out of yard at left end.
- 35:20They can't off Nelson rolling to the right drills one and it is another penalty.
- 35:25As Collins is upset again this time it is by Steve and in the rookie cornerback.
- 35:30That one is down on the jet thirty eight yard line.
- 35:34That time Gary was put as he made his turn.
- 35:38That was almost like a clip.
- 35:43Gary had faked over the middle and cut out toward the sidelines and that's when Shannon appeared to not knocking down and almost fell on the Gary and upset him.
- 35:55Another penalty officially.
- 36:04Downs out of the pedal.
- 36:05Booker blank left Collins out three to the right.
- 36:07Mourns puts the yard at left end.
- 36:15He's got it on the third eight of the twenty five with a twenty and down to the eighteen with Jim Hudson hanging on and Jim that time he only sent three receivers out kept his running back back to block and Milton Mourn was opened by about three steps on Hudson who is the strong side man and has the coverage of Milton Mourn and he is the veteran in that backfield.
- 36:38The ball spotted on about the 19 yard line.
- 36:45So it's a game of 18.
- 36:48Nelson has gone to Mourn as you know last year he went to Mourn a lot and some of your tight ends now are becoming the leading receivers on some of your ball clubs.
- 36:58Collins flank right Booker out forward to the left Mourn splits the yard at right end.
- 37:04Mourn.
- 37:09Numpire steps into wipe it off.
- 37:13Stops the clock and it starts again as Hogan's over the ball.
- 37:19First down and then they can't off screen to the right to both Scott gets a block at the 20.
- 37:24And the number four yard line Larry Granton the right linebacker Hickerson through the big block for him.
- 37:35That's good for almost 16 yards on the play.
- 37:42All is on about the three and a half yard line.
- 37:45Chip glass and now to help block the second slot in the lineup.
- 37:52And we have a minute remaining in the period Browns leading seven nothing trying to get another one.
- 37:58It is first down and goal to go.
- 38:02Mourn and glass are the ends they are in tight Collins is a flanker to the right.
- 38:09Give the Kelly sweeping right and five to add out of bounds at the two.
- 38:15Just couldn't get around the corner and then the cornerback helped get him out of bounds.
- 38:21A lot of traffic in that corner Baker the linebacker helped on it.
- 38:25It is second down and goal to go to two that stops the clock for what it's worth with 39 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
- 38:36I don't know if the Browns would like to score down on the grass part of the ballpark rather than in the quarter and go down into the baseball infield the dirt.
- 38:49They could care less as long as they score and they're in Collins now the wing back to the right.
- 38:56It's second down.
- 38:59Give the Scott gets a block from Kelly at the one touchdown.
- 39:14And right over early Thomas and Leroy Kelly through the block warm right at the line.
- 39:20Thirty six seconds remaining in the period.
- 39:25Mike Pipps holding down Cockroft to attempt the point.
- 39:36The kick is up.
- 39:44With 36 seconds remaining in the first quarter the Browns have had a just twice.
- 39:50And they've been able to drive for touchdowns on both of them.
- 39:53Fifty five yards and nine carries and eighty four yards and eleven plays on that one.
- 39:58They were aided considerably by two pass interference calls against the New York Jets with Gary Collins being the victim of both of them.
- 40:05But I think he was happy.
- 40:06Gary has one touchdown reception tonight.
- 40:08Scott in from the two on that one.
- 40:10Thirty six seconds remain the first period as the Browns are up 14 to nothing.
- 40:15And we'll get this return and probably one play and end the first quarter.
- 40:20Kelly has twenty seven yards and nine carries and Nelson is five out of six for seventy six yards.
- 40:26He has the one touchdown to Gary Collins.
- 40:28Don Cockroft kicks off for the third time tonight.
- 40:31Battle now back with Ed Bell kick by Cockroft battle at the one five ten fifteen right sidelines.
- 40:40Funny break the tackle.
- 40:42Twenty three hit at the 30 breaks another one.
- 40:44Thirty five still running and now gets down by the nine yard line.
- 40:49Some return the 38 yards and Joe Jones finally got him down like how helped on it.
- 40:57He almost broke that one open.
- 41:03You know how long he was running when he went from 38 seconds down to 20 took up 18 seconds on that one and now the clock is running down to 12.
- 41:12Maynard flank right.
- 41:13Here's Namath the throw.
- 41:15He said he fires.
- 41:17It is caught by Boozer at the forty five.
- 41:19He's to the 50 and he's pulled down on the Browns.
- 41:22Forty six by Ernie Kellerman.
- 41:25And there's the gun.
- 41:27That's the end of the first quarter with the score.
- 41:29The Browns 14 the Jets nothing.

- 42:26Mercury makes better cars.
- 42:30The sign of the cat.
- 42:32The Jets and Browns territory for the first time now as your name finally connects on one to his running back Emerson Boozer and they have the ball on the 46 yard line plays in the first quarter 18 for the Browns and 10 for the Jets.
- 42:50Browns dominated with their two drives.
- 42:55Jets out of the huddle with Maynard plank to the right side split about seven to the left. Lamins out a half yard and right in first and 10 starting the second period and off Boozer breaks over left tackle to the 40.
- 43:11Pick up about six.
- 43:13Shirt and Tellerman on the tackle John Schmidt the center.
- 43:29In the air.
- 43:30Nelson five out of six.
- 43:36Now we'll have sour again split left by about seven Maynard plank right.
- 43:43Lamins again splits about a half yard and right in name of the throw.
- 43:49He said he fires it deep.
- 43:51It is batted away down on the 10 yard line as Tellerman and how a double coverage on George Sauer.
- 44:02He was a summer and how not Tellerman.
- 44:07They were both in front of the ball.
- 44:10Name it put it up high enough that nobody could get it.
- 44:17They're down for to go.
- 44:25Maynard flanked right.
- 44:27Sauer out seven to the left.
- 44:32Lamins against what's about a half yard.
- 44:35Now moves directly behind name it.
- 44:37He gets the handoff it's left tackle he's got a first down with plenty to spare to the 30 to 28 yard line.
- 44:43Sumner making the tackle along with Walter Johnson.
- 44:53It's all time out.
- 44:58We have a flag up the official standing on against Cleveland.
- 45:08They have to do the 14 yard line from the 28th the personal foul.
- 45:14Now put the Jets in business.
- 45:21First threat by New York.
- 45:24Sauer split by the left Maynard flanked out to the right.
- 45:27Lamins put the yard at right in name it and the snail left tackle cuts inside of the 15 to the 10 to the eight.
- 45:36Sipped up by Sumner.
- 45:40Dave Herman the right guard pulled out and led the blocking ball on the eight and a half.
- 45:44The nose of it picked up about five 14 nothing Cleveland Jets threatening second quarter 1340 to play.
- 45:59Maynard flank right Sauer split five to the left.
- 46:04Second down.
- 46:09Name it gives the boos are right tackle.
- 46:14He's hit hard at about the eight maybe the seven and a half.
- 46:17Barnes and Houston on it.
- 46:19Lindsay.
- 46:22All placed at about the seven.
- 46:24Boy and on that play give Maynard was split wide to the right and he was covered by Airy Barnes and here it came off of Maynard right off the bat when he saw was going to be running.
- 46:34And got in halfway through that tackle third and three on the brown seven.
- 46:42Maynard flank right sour out five to the left.
- 46:46Lamins fight at the right side give the snow up the middle to the three to about the two and he has a first down.
- 46:53I think the brass smell pass instead and name of Fulgham with Matt smell getting the first down at the two.
- 47:00The Browns now send in Joe Jones and Bob Matheson shore up the line for the defensive unit taking out defensive backs Walt Sumner and Bernie Kellerman.
- 47:13Sauer now is playing for the left and Maynard splits five to the right.
- 47:24Namath and the boozer up the middle walks in for a touchdown.
- 47:32And the Jets score with 12 minutes seven seconds remaining in the second quarter.
- 47:39I will have Jim Turner to attempt the point and George Sauer will hold.
- 47:48Well those seven to play second quarter that's the opponent's first touchdown of the 1970 season.
- 48:02Waiting for the snap.
- 48:06Here's the spot kicks up.
- 48:08It's good.
- 48:09There's an official timeout on the field with the score the Browns 14 the Jets seven.

- 49:10As we mentioned earlier Homer Jones would be on the kickoff return unit.
- 49:22He is with Reese Morrison back there three touchdowns tonight all on the east end of the field as the Jets are back into this ballgame with a 62 yard drive in eight carries.
- 49:33The two were aided by an interference call a holding call personal file I guess it was of some 14 and a half yards.
- 49:41Now Reese Morrison and Homer Jones are deep.
- 49:43The Turner's kickoff is going very deep and it's eight yards in the end zone and Reese Morrison will stay there with us.
- 49:49Touchback in the Browns offensive unit will move out to start play at the 20 yard line.
- 49:55That's got to be the way the wind's going get her was on that one.
- 50:06Well the Jets back in the ballgame they weren't far out of it.
- 50:09Now just trailing by seven points and very early in this football game.
- 50:14The capacity crowd at the stadium again.
- 50:20The challenge now flank to the right.
- 50:25Booker's with seven at left and no one's out about three at right in Nelson back to throw that away and almost intercepted on the 10 yard line.
- 50:35It was deflected by Elliott deflected by Thompson and Elliott almost picked it off at the 10.
- 50:42You've been reading about that one you've been reading about their various defenses I think and on that when they that they extra tackles in on that and really must make it very confusing for the Browns offense.
- 50:57Defensive tackle dropping one of those.
- 51:00He's going to be furious the entire game inside the 15.
- 51:05That's their chance for immortality.
- 51:09The Browns. Switch to the right.
- 51:12I formation Nelson back to throw in the middle right behind no more than complete.
- 51:18We're behind no no turn right and the ball went zinging left.
- 51:23No I could be wrong but that might have been deflected to give.
- 51:30That's third and 10.
- 51:42Sounds out of the huddle Collins flank right slot left is Kelly with hookers split about 10 to the left.
- 51:52He's got it in the throat. He fires the morning he's got a 35 to the 40 and he's out of the 45 yard line Jim Hudson got him out of bounds first down.
- 52:04Let it is fair 25 yard pickup on another third and 10 situation.
- 52:17It was a great tackle by the Browns.
- 52:22The Browns are back and look so bad on two incompletions and then look so good on the long run.
- 52:26Fred Hoagland Jim peel back to get Elliott the right tackle who was starting to put pressure on Nelson.
- 52:33That helped get a lot extra second 11 48 remaining second period Browns now least out of the hole.
- 52:42Flip the Kelly flag down Kelly turning right in at the 50 and out of bounds by Ralph Baker referee threw it.
- 52:49It might be back in motion.
- 53:05The referee and Leroy Kelly are discussing it
- 53:19backfield in motion.
- 53:26The referee put the ball in the 39 and the umpire shoved it back where it belongs to the 40 being a democracy first and 15.
- 53:38Shifting out of the eye hookers a slot left with Collins left.
- 53:45Give the Scott can't get a hole at left tackle shop down for maybe a half yard loss Steve Thompson made the big play along with Berlin Biggs the right in
- 53:58second down 16 to go.
- 54:01They got Scott Holoman in there and safety give number 48 turned that play in.
- 54:10Well he probably will be taking care of the slot in now that was Jim Hudson's job and Hudson's gone.
- 54:18Collins flank to the right hooker out seven to the left more and splits a couple of right in Nelson to throw it is incomplete and 10 of the milk more on up at the 50 yard line and Mill hadn't turned around yet.
- 54:32All of them was covering him on the play. Jets had a pretty good rush on Nelson.
- 54:51The second play second period Browns lead 14 7 Jerry Collins blanks out to the right more and splits a couple of right in the booker out seven and left in long yardage Nelson to throw in the middle.
- 55:15He's going at the 50 not back to the 49 yard line of the Browns by Holoman.
- 55:21It is short of the first down by about five they'll mark it up to 50 yard line and the Browns will have to punt and Berlin Biggs the right defensive end put another big rush on Nelson and knocked him down after he got rid of the ball and Nelson is OK coming back to the sideline.
- 55:39The second half of the game is a tie.
- 55:45The first two to win are Ed Bell and Mike battle at the 10 cock off of the kicking into a slight wind.
- 55:53The first four catch call for by battle let's go to 10 takes a jet bounce picked up by Chip Glass for the Browns and he gets belted by on cops the rookie from Penn State the officials say nothing illegal.
- 56:07Nobody got hurt.
- 56:09So the Jets will start play at the 13 yard line on a 37 yard punt.
- 56:14And more important no return.
- 56:18Today second period an official timeout on the field with a score the Browns 14 the Jets seven.

- 57:45Get a break after this play Maynard is flanked to the right.
- 57:48The left hand splits about 10 at left end and off the booster right tackle. He's hit at the 15 yard line by Smido and chopped down for about a two yard pickup barns up on a 10 second for station identification.

- 58:23The second down and eight they have a slot left now Maynard in the slot name of the throw. Fires it is hot food a hard tackle on our at the 32 by Ernie Kellerman chopped him at the knees from behind the 17 yard pickup first and then that was a well grown football.
- 58:49I'll tell you there was a tremendous charge put on by Walter Johnson on that play but he had to have double coverage on him and he just kept turning away but they weren't about to let him get through to men.
- 59:01Maynard flank right sour out five to the left lamins out about a half yard at right in.
- 59:10Namath takes the handoff going to throw it drills one deep man open by sour and he fell down on the Browns funny yard line.
- 59:20He beat Sumner but Mike Powell made the tackle a 40 yard pickup.
- 59:29They're putting Walter Johnson right over the center and he's getting this double coverage from the center and the right guard and once again they had him out of there giving Joe just a little more time.
- 59:42Paying more attention to water than they are to Jerry on these particular two plays I just happen to have my eye on water on both of them.
- 59:50All of a sudden from their own 13 down to the 20 yard line of the Browns.
- 59:57Time out Cleveland.
- 1:00:00I don't know whether my college equipment problems or not but he was over at one time talking to the equipment manager now he's coming off and he takes his helmet off.

- 1:01:29It's awfully hot down there and Mike you know as the free safety does an awful lot of running around.
- 1:01:36He wanted to go back and he was on his feet. No. OK. But then they decided against it and the Jets break and their first and 10 on the 28th.
- 1:01:44See if Joe Namath does any picking now on Fred Summers. He has Maynard flank to the right. He's going to throw it sets up.
- 1:01:52Fires. It is infantly at the five yard line Summers broken up intended for sour.
- 1:02:02And a flag is dropped back on the 34. It apparently is holding 15 yards against the Jets back to the Cleveland 49.
- 1:02:16It is for holding.
- 1:02:22That's a 21 yard penalty because it's from the spot of the foul 21 yards from the original line of scrimmage.
- 1:02:31The infraction called against right guard Dave Harmon.
- 1:02:37But they hold on to the down but they've got to reach the 18 yard line there on the 49.
- 1:02:44The Jets have again Maynard flanked out to the right. Sour splits five now moves out seven yards.
- 1:02:52On the draw Boozer hit at the line of scrimmage and he's down for a yard pick up to the 48 yard line howl back in the ballgame on it.
- 1:03:00Lindsay helped on it.
- 1:03:04The yard at second down and 30 to go.
- 1:03:15We're halfway through the second period.
- 1:03:19Fourteen to seven Cleveland.
- 1:03:25Maynard flanks right sour out five to the left. Lamins out a yard at right in.
- 1:03:34Boozer and Snell the running backs.
- 1:03:38Namath back to throw.
- 1:03:41Fires right sidelines it is caught by Maynard and pulled down on the 32 yard line.
- 1:03:48By Erich Barnes.
- 1:03:5116 yard pick up on the play that brings up third down and about 14 to go.
- 1:03:59That's a typical Joe Namath call where he keeps his two running backs.
- 1:04:03In fact many times he will only send out three receivers is tied in and these two wide receivers.
- 1:04:09And this makes him more exceptional when he only has three out he's given a little more time from the back but he only has three down.
- 1:04:15They could usually be covered and he still hits them.
- 1:04:17Third down play sour flank left this time Maynard splits forward to the right.
- 1:04:22Now moves out another couple of yards.
- 1:04:24Lamins tied at the left handoff draw to Boozer at the 31 30 right sidelines 25 right to tackle at ease out of bounds.
- 1:04:33On about the 17 yard line that should be a first down by about a half a yard.
- 1:04:40And a great run by Emerson Boozer and a fine block by the split end on that play.
- 1:04:47Don Maynard first and 31 yards to go.
- 1:04:51They had it on the 49 and only one pass Boozer on two carries in the last 12 yards on that was all his effort.
- 1:04:58The Browns had several shots at him.
- 1:05:01That's a real heartbreaker when you have him back up to midfield when they get down to the 28 and then they still pick it up inside the 20.
- 1:05:09Maynard flank right sour out seven to the left.
- 1:05:14Lamins out about a half yard at right end.
- 1:05:17Give the snow trap no whole flag down as he hits the 16 yard line short on the tackle.
- 1:05:24Namath just almost did a backflip as he heard what the penalty was.
- 1:05:29I didn't know Joe could move that well.
- 1:05:32That's a Broadway Joe jump.
- 1:05:43Another big one 15 back to the 31 holding offensive holding.
- 1:05:56Now 24 to go six penalties 83 yards assessed against the Jets.
- 1:06:07Our flank left Maynard splits forward to the right.
- 1:06:14Now moves out another step.
- 1:06:18Namath to throw steps up drills one deep it is intercepted by one something to stick to the 10 15 20 25 30.
- 1:06:28He's a little bit of a 35 to the 40 and down on the 40 yard line by Herman.
- 1:06:49Thirty four yards returned by Walt Sumner.
- 1:06:52Joe Namath just had a better throw on his helmet out of bounds.
- 1:06:58He's of course angry with himself.
- 1:06:59He threw it too far.
- 1:07:02Five forty five to play in the half.
- 1:07:08And we have Homer Jones in the ballgame flank to the left.
- 1:07:11Give to Kelly try to sweep left and no whole chop down on the 39 a yard loss.
- 1:07:16Larry Grantham the right linebacker made the tackle.
- 1:07:19They'll mark it back on the 38 a loss of two.
- 1:07:23Homer Jones is in the ballgame replacing Gary Collins as far as a spot in the lineup.
- 1:07:30But on the field Homer's the split end and Booker moves over to flanker and Homer will always play the left side.
- 1:07:36As you know they flop their hooker back and forth but Homer will always be on the left side.
- 1:07:42And their high formation now is on the right because hooker also on the right hooker is a slot back.
- 1:07:47Homer splits 10.
- 1:07:50Give to Kelly try to sweep the left side.
- 1:07:52He's tapped again to the 33 yard line.
- 1:07:55Well the Jets really plugged that one up and again it was Grantham with help by early Thomas the right cornerback.
- 1:08:04That's about another five yard loss.
- 1:08:08That's third and 17.
- 1:08:11Verlonde Biggs is on the right side too. He's one of these that is supposed to be unsigned and unhappy.
- 1:08:18But he's got to be unhappy with the Browns the way he's playing.
- 1:08:22The right tackle is John Elliott a four year veteran from Texas.
- 1:08:31Booker flanks right.
- 1:08:33Homer Jones out five to the left and no more and splits a couple at right end.
- 1:08:40Blitz Nelson the throw he drills it flag down hooker drops the ball on the 45 of the Jets.
- 1:08:47We have a flag thrown however holding has been called against.
- 1:08:52I would assume it's against the Jets it was called way up in the defensive backfield not at the line.
- 1:08:58That's the call.
- 1:09:00That's an automatic first down which is more important.
- 1:09:03Five yard penalty.
- 1:09:06The linebacker blitzing was Baker and the Browns picked it up beautifully.
- 1:09:12All is up to the 38 first and 10 or 0 2 to play in the half and a fairly well played first half especially for the first game of the season.
- 1:09:22It's been a very exciting game for the fans on that one.
- 1:09:25The Jets had only three men back sending all their linebackers up on the line and that's unusual on this pass passing down from the eye.
- 1:09:34Nelson the throw pumps he throws the hookers open and it's over thrown on the 30 yard line.
- 1:09:40You break the post pattern and cut back out to the sidelines and had Holoman and 10 and both feet on the play.
- 1:09:46Nelson led him by about two yards too many.
- 1:09:54We're at the three fifty seven mark with the score 14 to 7 the Browns scoring two touchdowns in the first period and then the Jets getting one back in the early going of the second quarter.
- 1:10:07And now Fair Hooker is just now rejoining the huddle on the 25 yard line.
- 1:10:12It's a long trip back.
- 1:10:17Second and 10 Browns have connected six out of seven times on their third down situations.
- 1:10:24Namath has only hit two out of four.
- 1:10:27Hooker planks right.
- 1:10:28Homer Jones out five to the left.
- 1:10:31Warren tight on the right side.
- 1:10:33Second and 10 Nelson back to throw pumps he's going to run.
- 1:10:39Now he throws it is incomplete intended for a hooker at the Jets 48 yard line.
- 1:10:45He hit it with a 10 and broke it up Nelson through just a shade too late as he was dodging the Jets line.
- 1:10:56And then Bill did have some time on that given I think he was eyeing the Roy Kelly who was doing a zigzag pattern over the middle and finally shook loose.
- 1:11:07At that time Nelson had taken his eye off of him and headed towards the right side started to run then had to unloaded in a hurry and Fair Hooker couldn't catch it.
- 1:11:17Neither quarterback has been dropped for a loss yet.
- 1:11:21But both teams defensive lines are putting pretty fair pressure on the quarterbacks.
- 1:11:26Third and 10 hooker flank right.
- 1:11:29Homer Jones out five to the left.
- 1:11:31Warren splits a yard at right end.
- 1:11:33Nelson to throw.
- 1:11:35He's hit as he throws and it is incomplete that spoiled his throw and it fell harmlessly to the ground big as the man hit him the right end ball fell up at the 45 yard line the Browns will have to punt 345 to play first half.
- 1:11:51Ed Bell and George Ed Bell and Mike battle go back and double safety.
- 1:11:56And Mcdowell did not pick up his 21st win today.
- 1:11:59Sonny Seabird beating 2 to 1 on cock off the punt.
- 1:12:14The rush on that the kick is up and away.
- 1:12:16Fair catch called for and held by Bell on the 23 of the jet.
- 1:12:22Good. That's the first time they've had the punt but notice that this was pointed out to me at the beginning of the game.
- 1:12:29I guess the loss was charged the hand that McDowell beginning of the game on these punts.
- 1:12:33You know they put seven men over on the left side and they send Tannen and to block the front.
- 1:12:38They try to block every punt and the next time they punt notice that big jam up on the Browns right side their left and Tannen number 21 coming into the outside.
- 1:12:47That's why Don Koppel of awareness got it off in a hurry.
- 1:12:5249 yard punt Maynard flank right.
- 1:12:55Sowers with five to the left.
- 1:12:57Lamans tied on the right side.
- 1:12:59Name it back to throw screen on the left.
- 1:13:01Caught by boo.
- 1:13:03Flag down hit by knock and white are the two running backs.
- 1:13:06The one that caught that one was white and a flag down as he pulled down to the 32 yard line by Houston and Garlington.
- 1:13:13Against the Jets.
- 1:13:38Well I missed that signal Jim interference or pushing one or the other.
- 1:13:45Offensive interference 11 yards half of this ball back to the 12.
- 1:13:52First down still three 10 to play in the first half.
- 1:13:56Name it the throw up.
- 1:13:58Fire Maynard got it. 27 hit down to 31 almost lost the ball grabbed it again as he pulled down by Barnes pick up of 19 and it will bring up a second down in about two to go.
- 1:14:18There's a white going out of the ballgame.
- 1:14:21Now back in and Boozer is back in Maynard flank right.
- 1:14:30Sauer outside to the left.
- 1:14:31Lamans tied on the right side.
- 1:14:37Name it the throw left sideline.
- 1:14:39Sowers got it out of bounds on the 38.
- 1:14:41First down stops the clock.
- 1:14:43Seven yard pick up to 27 to play in the half.
- 1:14:46Browns lead 14 7.
- 1:14:49They have Mike Hall back in that is pretty safety position.
- 1:14:59Very few substitutions been that necessary one for the Browns Mike Howell and Fred Summers and the Jets have made one in their defensive backfield other than that I think that's about it.
- 1:15:11Change the two running backs for a couple of plays and that's it and then stuck them back in again Maynard flank right sour out five of the left Lamans out about a half yard at right in name it the throw.
- 1:15:22Fire is hard intercepted by Houston on the 48 of the ground 45 40 of the jet for the 30 he's down on the 27 yard line.
- 1:15:32The throw by Herman Jim Houston went way back in the hook area.
- 1:15:48On the 27 yard line of the jet this time name it isn't Tony's helmet but he's walking very slowly off the field.
- 1:16:02The left garden tackle no hold fights for about to Elliot Thompson Atkinson bigs all on the tackle timeout call the two minute warning there's an official timeout on the field the score the Browns 14 the jet seven.
- 1:16:22Our Mercury dealer would like you to consider one simple thought better ideas make better cars it's as simple as that better medium price car ideas like the 1971 Mercury marquee the marquee starts with the most dramatic styling in the medium price class.

- 1:17:05And this make better it's a symbol as that Mercury makes better.
- 1:17:22The second and nine as we go into the final two minutes of the first half the Browns trying to get in for their third score the evening they have not scored in the second period two interceptions off the path of the Joe Namath who has completed eight out of 13 for 130 yards.
- 1:17:38Their touchdown came on a two yard run by Boozer.
- 1:17:43The Browns huddle back in the 35.
- 1:17:46Three downs for the first down which they have to get to the 16 second down and eight Collins flank right hooker out five to the left.
- 1:17:55Lawrence what's about a yard and a half at right end Nelson back to throw screen to the right to both Scott he's in trouble he's chopped down back on the 35 yard line and a beautiful defensive play by Al Atkinson the middle linebacker Steve Thompson the left tackle.
- 1:18:13They really played that very well.
- 1:18:17It's a loss of 10.
- 1:18:18It is third down.
- 1:18:21Up to 18 to go impossible for you to expect anyone to think that far ahead but in that case I don't think the Browns would have been mad if Scott had dropped that ball saved him 10 yards.
- 1:18:38The hooker splits left almost 10 yards.
- 1:18:43Collins out to the right as they get out of the eye now hookers flank left Collins but seven to the right.
- 1:18:49More and out to the left Nelson backpedaling he fires flag down it is caught by hooker and he's down on the 20 yard line.
- 1:18:56Thomas there to make the touch on him but we have a flag drop way back at the forty four forty seven yard line.
- 1:19:04And that could be holding they mark the spot of the file the forty four that is going to put the Browns out of field goal range with a minute one remaining in the half.
- 1:19:20The Browns were down to 25 down to the 20 no 25 on the second down play now on the penalty they're back to the Cleveland forty one holding.
- 1:19:41That's the Browns fourth penalty for 39 yards 99 yards against the Jets in eight penalties.
- 1:19:51Let's work on the P.A. says 42 yards to go and I believe in third down.
- 1:20:05The hooker flank left Collins out seven to the right more not a couple of left in and Nelson to throw.
- 1:20:11There's a long bomb to Collins under throw and he comes back and he can't get the ball at the 22 yard line.
- 1:20:17Gary had to swing back after it made a lunge for it.
- 1:20:20He had 10 and beaten deep and he beat him coming back for it and he just couldn't quite hang on to the ball as he fell to the ground.
- 1:20:27The Browns will have the fun. Mr. Golden Chance on a half of the interception.
- 1:20:35They went field goal range and got themselves out of it.
- 1:20:39Fifty five seconds remaining. Cocker off the punt.
- 1:20:42Bell and battle in double safety.
- 1:20:46Linus Pimliger the Cleveland forty one.
- 1:20:54Good snap. Wobbly.
- 1:20:57Their catch held by a bell of the 20.
- 1:21:02A 39 yard punt no return and the Jets come on the field with 48 seconds remaining in the half.
- 1:21:20And the clock starts.
- 1:21:24Main and flank right sour out about five to the left.
- 1:21:28Boozer and smell the running backs give the smell heading outside left in twenty five twenty six down at the 26 yard line.
- 1:21:35Timeout called by the Jets Tom Butler who's in the game and middle line at the right linebacker.
- 1:21:43No wait a minute Billy Andrews fifty two at right linebacker who made the stop.
- 1:21:57Harry I bet you very bad at checkers aren't you.
- 1:22:04With 31 seconds left to play now and second down and about four.
- 1:22:09Apparently the Jets are just content to run out the clock even though they've called a timeout because they kept Boozer on the ground.
- 1:22:16But perhaps in this one or the next one as they break that Joe Namath will go for the bomb to try to get at least within field goal range.
- 1:22:24Thirty one seconds remaining first half.
- 1:22:26Boozer is a slot left. Sour split five to the left.
- 1:22:30Main and flank to the right handoff.
- 1:22:32Now right guard 30 35 38 close to the 39 yard line. Another timeout.
- 1:22:39Twenty five seconds remaining. That's another first down.
- 1:22:42They might just like to get it at least in field goal range.
- 1:22:45How made that tackle and they have one more timeout.
- 1:22:49The Browns took their time out about eight or nine minutes ago.
- 1:22:55Well they have Jim Turner who can kick him from the from the 50 and keep in mind that if there is a prevailing wind down there that means anything he has it behind his back.
- 1:23:11Jerry Collins has one of the touchdowns for the Browns.
- 1:23:14The other one on a two yard run by Scott Boozer from the two for the Jets and that's all you're scoring.
- 1:23:20And we haven't even had a field goal attempt yet but we may get one in the last 25 seconds of this first time.
- 1:23:27That's one timeout remaining and 25 seconds remaining.
- 1:23:31They're failing by seven Maynard will flank right sour out five to the left.
- 1:23:38Lamans out of the yard and half of the right end.
- 1:23:42Name it the throw that fire's middle drop by Boozer at the 48 yard line of the Browns.
- 1:23:55You were covering on the plate. Tom is now in the lineup.
- 1:24:01Browns are going with three linemen or linebackers at seven or defensive.
- 1:24:13Ron Snyder got to Joe name it but just seconds late as is often the case because most of the quarterbacks will unload it.
- 1:24:21But he did dump Joe name it and then helped him do his feet again.
- 1:24:25Second and 10 20 seconds remaining Maynard flank to the right sour out five to the left.
- 1:24:33Namath the throw drills in the middle.
- 1:24:36It is caught by Lamans flag down and he's pulled down at the 48 yard line.
- 1:24:42Two flags at the 10 yard pick up.
- 1:24:55Both captains name it and Jim Houston anxious to find out on which team it will be assessed.
- 1:25:01Looks like it's going to be against the Jets.
- 1:25:05Now name it this talking. Now they leave the ball right where Lamans went down and caught it.
- 1:25:16I wish the referee would talk a little louder so we can tell what's going on.
- 1:25:27Interference against both teams.
- 1:25:30Offsetting penalties. Oh wait a minute. They can't leave the ball where it is.
- 1:25:35They've got to start the ending. Well normally you'll put the ball back.
- 1:25:39And normally you discard the play and return.
- 1:25:43They're giving the they're giving the Jets a first down on the 40 at their own 40 yard line offsetting penalties usually means back to the line of scrimmage back to the line of scrimmage.
- 1:25:57Two officials have asked the referee and he's explained it to both of them.
- 1:26:02So I guess there's nobody beating 14 seconds remaining.
- 1:26:07Jets not quite in field goal range need about 10 15 more.
- 1:26:11Maynard is flanked to the right. Sauer out five to the left. Lamans puts a yard at right end.
- 1:26:17Namely the throw in the middle. Got it away by Houston at the 40 yard line he stepped right in front of Lamans and it's a good thing he got a hand on the ball on Lamans would have been off to the races.
- 1:26:31Well, we have 10 seconds remaining.
- 1:26:35But the Jets still have one timeout left.
- 1:26:38One time out and this is only second down Joe was a little short on that path.
- 1:26:43Lamans was down at about the 35 yard line and then looked like he stopped.
- 1:26:48Had he been able to have the ball been thrown a little longer and he'd been able to keep up his momentum and Joe been on target with that.
- 1:26:56He'd had a completed pass inside the 30 yard line he had to stop and then come back.
- 1:27:04Second down again Maynard flanked right name of the throw.
- 1:27:09Lamans beat to the right sidelines and this one goes out of bounds on about the 27 yard line intended for Maynard and here is Barnes was covering along the sidelines.
- 1:27:20Now the clock says four seconds remain.
- 1:27:25We still exceptional coverage on that but once again it was the same pattern we mentioned earlier that sending only three receivers down it's easy for a linebacker plus your four defensive backs to drop back and give almost every receiver double coverage.
- 1:27:39But name it kept his backs in there and got good protection because he wants to go long.
- 1:27:45Might be the last play of the period Maynard flank right sour out five to the left. Lamans out about a half yard at right end.
- 1:27:55There's a draw. Bozer and knocked down at the 47 yard line and there's the gun.
- 1:28:01That's the end of the first half with the score the Browns 14 the Jets seven will be back with halftime sports in the second half of the night's game after the news.
- 1:28:14Second half kickoff Turner on the approach Reese Morrison and Homer Jones are deep over Jones on the 610 right sidelines 1520 2530 3540 45.
- 1:28:25Turner missing. He's the midfield over Jones is going all the way for a touchdown.
- 1:28:45Ninety four yards.
- 1:28:59Homer Jones first time has returned the football for the Cleveland Browns.
- 1:29:04Can you imagine the people out of the hot dog stand saying I wonder what they're yelling about.
- 1:29:13This will hold Cockroft to attempt the point. The kick. It's good.
- 1:29:18There's an official timeout on the field to score the Browns 21 the Jets seven.

- 1:30:28The record for a Cleveland Brown on a kickoff return is one hundred and four yards by Carl Ward in 1967 Leroy Bowden one hundred and two in 58.
- 1:30:38You know the NFL record is one hundred and six by Al Carmichael of the Green Bay Packers.
- 1:30:43The Browns have set an attendance record for themselves tonight.
- 1:30:47Eighty five thousand seven hundred and three.
- 1:30:49That's a high for the Browns.
- 1:30:51Ed Bell and Mike Battle are deep.
- 1:30:53The kick goes to Bell.
- 1:30:54He's got a five yard deep and he's going to stay there with it and the Jets will take over the 20 yard line and the fans cheer about that.
- 1:31:22Here come the Jets out of the huddle.
- 1:31:24We have Sowers with seven to the left Maynard flank to the right.
- 1:31:28Lamond's out about a yard and a half at right end.
- 1:31:31Snell and Boozer the running backs name of the throw.
- 1:31:35Let's on he fires it's caught at the 30 Maynard breaks a tackle by Barnes hit at the 40 now and down at the 40 yard line.
- 1:31:43I Ernie Kellerman that's good for 20 yards and that's how Namath handles a blitz.
- 1:31:50The blitzer was the right linebacker.
- 1:31:52Dale Lindsey took Homer Jones 17 seconds officially to run that 94 yards after a lot of the zigs and zags thrown in and it's 21 to 7 as the Jets have first and 10 on their own 40.
- 1:32:11Sauer now flanks left and Maynard is split seven to the right.
- 1:32:15Namath to throw Rills one it is sour got it at the Browns 45 and pulled down at the 44 by Walt Sumner and Sauer had to go up in the air for that one at the 16 yard pick up first and 10 touchdown must have made Namath a little mad or angry.
- 1:32:46Jets out of the huddle.
- 1:32:50Blanker to the right is Maynard Sauer out five at left in Lammon splits a yard at right in Namath to throw six seven steps set fires overthrown at the 30 intended for Maynard and Barnes was covering on the play.
- 1:33:10Second and then the Jets in the first half did a fine job of shutting off the Browns running game.
- 1:33:16Kelly had 21 yards and 12 carries and both got in four tries picked up to net.
- 1:33:28Jets huddling 1306 to play third quarter 21 7 Cleveland.
- 1:33:38Jets taking a long time in the huddle now move out Maynard flank right Sauer out for the left name with gets the snap in a hurry.
- 1:33:48It is caught at the 31 at Sauer again and Sumner on the tackle again.
- 1:33:55That's good for 13 another first down.
- 1:33:59Well we've been talking about their cornerbacks and now Joe Namath has gone to work on the Browns cornerbacks just one incomplete at pass on this series and he is three out of four but he's been picking up 15 and 18 yards on each particular pass and he both times he's all three times he's gone to his wide receiver.
- 1:34:17Sauer will split five to the left Maynard flanks to the right Lammon's out of yard at right in.
- 1:34:26The Maynard moves out a couple more and off smell left tackle 30 25 spins off 24.
- 1:34:33Now he's down Jim Houston finally got a solid hit on him and helped by Lindsey and Garlington.
- 1:34:42Now was originally hit at the 30.
- 1:34:46It turns it into a seven yard game. Snell holds the jet record of close to a thousand yards in the 1960s and I believe it was he's their leading rusher also a good pass receiver.
- 1:35:00Second and three Maynard flank right sour out five to the left.
- 1:35:06Lamons out about a half yard right in Snell right side cuts outside Garlington hit at the 23 got about a yard maybe two on the play Mike how quickly up from safety to help on the tackle.
- 1:35:17And so did as we say Garlington and he reached Barnes.
- 1:35:22Now spot the ball the 23 yard line a yard pick up third down to go on the Cleveland 23.
- 1:35:29Well what are you going to call here and I'll give you're going to go for the two yards or you're going to go maybe for a pick up a 10 or 15 with the idea that even if you don't get it you have the field goal.
- 1:35:40So we'll see what Joe's going to do here.
- 1:35:43Now sour is the flanker to the left Maynard splits five to the right.
- 1:35:48Lamons out a half yard at the left end.
- 1:35:53And off Boozer left tackle first down fights inside the 20 to the 18 yard line.
- 1:35:59Houston on the stop picking on Jerry Shirk a little bit.
- 1:36:04I'm the right tackle Brown's rookie boy no no trouble with that one either when it was third and two you would expect perhaps they would jam up the center.
- 1:36:13But he didn't pick up his two yards he got five so now they're down to the 18 yard line.
- 1:36:19Having moved from their own 20 in just seven plays.
- 1:36:25Maynard flanking right now boozers a slot back to the left side as sour split about 10 to the left.
- 1:36:34Now Boozer comes back as a running back.
- 1:36:38Passing the left flat caught by sour the 12 to the 10 holds on and Sumner grabs him pulls him down at the five yard line.
- 1:36:4713 yard pick up first down gold to go the ball on the Brown's five yard line.
- 1:36:54This sour isn't particularly fast but he's awfully deceptive and has great moves.
- 1:36:59He had eight receptions in the in the Super Bowl if you'll recall a couple years ago.
- 1:37:07And sour is the flanker to the left now Maynard splits five at right end.
- 1:37:11Lamons out about a yard at left end first down and gold to go.
- 1:37:15This drive started at the 20 and off Boozer left tackle flag down he's tripped up at about the three yard line.
- 1:37:24I think the Jets were moving on the play a back.
- 1:37:44Five yard penalty to the 10.
- 1:37:48Back in motion first down and gold to go at the 10 yard line.
- 1:37:54Here comes a substitution in the Jets lineup.
- 1:37:59It was trapped who was going to replace Maynard Castor rather.
- 1:38:02But Maynard has the play and Castor goes back off the field.
- 1:38:05Maynard flanks right.
- 1:38:07Sour out five at left end.
- 1:38:09Lamons splits a yard at right end.
- 1:38:13Give the Boozer left tackle to the five touchdown.
- 1:38:22Ten yard touchdown run by Emerson Boozer.
- 1:38:29And the Jets are within eight and the extra point to come.
- 1:38:36Jim Turner will attempt and George Sauer will hold.
- 1:38:53Waiting for the snap.
- 1:38:56There it is.
- 1:38:57Kick is up.
- 1:38:58It is good.
- 1:38:59There's an official timeout on the field to score the Browns 21 the Jets 14.

- 1:39:58Today's new look geared to the young man who knows what's happening and where it's at.
- 1:40:02It's all at Barney's Inn at Nick Amster's in Worcester.
- 1:40:0580 yards and 9 plays and the Jets give it to their bread and butter runner, Anderson Boozer, who last year sat out 5 and a half games from an injury but still scored 13 touchdowns.
- 1:40:18It's a lot of TDs in 9 games.
- 1:40:20He's the one that usually carries it in. Turner all set for the kickoff now.
- 1:40:247 points separate these two. We're at 9, 22, 3rd period.
- 1:40:28Morrison and Homer Jones are waiting at the 2. Turner's approach, a little short.
- 1:40:32It's going to Morrison at the 7, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and down.
- 1:40:41Flag, he's hit after the tackle.
- 1:40:43Down on the 37.
- 1:40:45Dennis Onkots made the tackle. It'll cost the Jets 15.
- 1:40:58Well while we're waiting for them to step it off, let's pause 10 seconds for station identification.
- 1:41:02This is the Cleveland Browns football network.
- 1:41:07Listening now to WWSTFM stereo in Worcester. 52,000 watts of stereo power.
- 1:41:21Browns out of the huddle. Starting play on the Jets, 47.
- 1:41:26High formation, now they shift to the tee with Hooker, split left. Kelly's a slot right with Collins split 5 to the right.
- 1:41:33Long and out of yard at the left end. Nelson to throw. Left sideline. Hooker's got it. 42, breaks the tackle to 40.
- 1:41:3935 down on the 34 yard line. That'll be a first down.
- 1:41:44Hollerman made the tackle.
- 1:41:54Thomas is the man who missed him, the rookie right cornerback.
- 1:41:58I think that's Hooker's first reception of the night too.
- 1:42:02Just when you have a good preseason, the opponents know about it and give special attention to you.
- 1:42:09Now Collins will flank right. Hooker 5 to the left.
- 1:42:13Milton Warren's out about a half yard at right end. First and 10.
- 1:42:19Flags down on the draw. Kelly 30, 25 down to the 22 yard line.
- 1:42:25Got a flag on the play.
- 1:42:33Tannen's a man who made the tackle.
- 1:42:38It's against the Jets I believe. It is and it'll be declined.
- 1:42:44And it is a 12 yard pick up. First down.
- 1:42:50Ball, nose of the ball is very close to the 22 yard line. Started on the 34 on that play.
- 1:42:57821 to play. Third quarter. Browns lead by 7. Try to get another.
- 1:43:02High formation. Collins out 5 to the right. They shift to the tee.
- 1:43:06Hooker is flank left. Warren out of yard at left end.
- 1:43:10Nelson gives the bow. Scott over left guard to the 20 and that's about it.
- 1:43:15Elliott the right tackle. Atkinson the middle linebacker. Granton the right linebacker on the stop.
- 1:43:20Schaffrath tried to clear the hole. Pick up of 2. 2nd and 8.
- 1:43:28Bill Nelson speaks at the Charter House tomorrow night.
- 1:43:31And Erich Barnes will join me at Pat Joyce's at 5.30 at Sunchester.
- 1:43:41Collins flank to the right. Hooker out 7 at left end. Nelson back to throw.
- 1:43:46Drills it in the middle. It's patted away and almost intercepted by Atkinson the middle linebacker.
- 1:43:51Hooker I believe the intended receiver. 4 of the Jets had flooded back in the zone between the 10 and 5.
- 1:43:58Hooker went out and was shaking to the outside. But early Thomas had him covered to the outside.
- 1:44:04Was going to let him go inside and he had him beat going to the post. The pass was knocked down and almost intercepted.
- 1:44:13But early Thomas would not have gotten it. It took the linebacker.
- 1:44:18And once again that's the signal for Don Cockroft to loosen up his right leg.
- 1:44:23The Browns have hit 6 out of 9 out of these 3rd down attempts tonight.
- 1:44:28Nelson to try it again. Collins out 5 to the right. Hooker flank left. Nelson throwing. Hooker left corner.
- 1:44:34Open it just off his hand and out of bounds and out of the end zone incomplete.
- 1:44:38Early Thomas covering. But Hooker had him beat on the play. The Browns will go for 3.
- 1:44:45This will be the first field goal attempt of the night.
- 1:44:49He was going to curl around early Thomas on that one after tying the inside then going to the outside.
- 1:44:54He was going to curl right around him what he did but the pass was just, it wasn't on the left side or right side.
- 1:44:59It was just a little high directly over his head and Ferris made a one handed stab. Couldn't pull it in.
- 1:45:0427 yard field goal attempt by Don Cockroft. Mike Pipps holding. Slide angle at the right.
- 1:45:10Snap. Spot. Kicks up. It is good.
- 1:45:16There's an official timeout on the field. The score, the Browns 24. The Jets 14.
- 1:45:23Ever get caught short after regular store hours and need a prescription filled or want some packaged drug products
- 1:45:32or maybe cereal or milk or cold cuts for the next morning.
- 1:45:35Everyone has had this problem at one time or another and in this area it is solved by Stipes Drugstore opposite the Penn Depot in Worcester.
- 1:45:43Because Stipes is open from 9 a.m. until 11 p.m. seven days a week.
- 1:45:47There's always a registered pharmacist on duty at all times.
- 1:45:50Free delivery service is available when needed along with 24 hour emergency service on prescriptions.
- 1:45:56And you'll find Stipes registered pharmacist careful competent and anxious to be of help to you.
- 1:46:01Also Stipes offer a full package grocery dairy and cold cut line.
- 1:46:05They have a very complete baby department with baby foods and formula items and a brand new and more complete cosmetic department.
- 1:46:12Featuring complete customer lines by famous Dana, Max Factor and Corday as well as many others.
- 1:46:18Remember now Stipes Drugstore opposite the Penn Depot open from 9 a.m. until 11 p.m.
- 1:46:24The widest margin of a lead has been 14 points when it was 14 and I think 21-7.
- 1:46:32It's back up to 10 points now but the Browns must give the ball back to the Jets.
- 1:46:36The Jets did it with considerably easy 80 yards and 9 plays.
- 1:46:40The Browns came back and did it equally but couldn't push it over.
- 1:46:43But at least they got the three points on the scoreboard and here's Don.
- 1:46:47Kickoff with seven and a half minutes left to play in this third period.
- 1:46:52Ed Bell and Mike Battle back at the goal line.
- 1:46:57Kick a little short. Battle at the 7, 10, 15, 20.
- 1:47:02Hit at the 25 down at the 26. Tom Butler led the charge.
- 1:47:09Bob Matheson's on it. Joe Jones, Chip Glass.
- 1:47:13First and 10 Jets on the 26. 18 yard, 19 yard return.
- 1:47:29Jets moving out of the huddle.
- 1:47:32They will have Sauer flank left.
- 1:47:36Clean it up. Five to the right. Laman's out about a half yard at left end.
- 1:47:45Namath back to throw.
- 1:47:47Drills up in the middle. Too high and almost intercepted.
- 1:47:50Intended for Boozer over his hands and Mike Howell coming over.
- 1:47:56Saw it but couldn't quite get over it. We have a flag drop back on the 20.
- 1:48:03Apparently against the Jets. Jim Houston talking to the referee.
- 1:48:106.55 to play, third quarter.
- 1:48:13Fentanyl is against New York.
- 1:48:16Half the distance to the 10.
- 1:48:21Holding.
- 1:48:30The ball is first down.
- 1:48:3326 yards to go for the first down.
- 1:48:38No wonder they don't get to name it.
- 1:48:40The defensive line.
- 1:48:44Maynard is flank right. Sauer out seven to the left.
- 1:48:47Laman splits a yard at right end. Namath to throw again.
- 1:48:51Setting up. He fires. It's deep. It's overthrown.
- 1:48:55It's almost intercepted in midfield.
- 1:48:57He threw Sauer by a good 10 yards. Howell and Sumner were back chasing the ball.
- 1:49:02And another flag is down at the three yard line.
- 1:49:08I think this is against Cleveland by the looks of Jack Gregory with his hands on his hips.
- 1:49:1515 yards against Cleveland to the 25.
- 1:49:26The ball is thrown to roughing the passer.
- 1:49:29And it's called against Gregory.
- 1:49:34First and 10 at the 25 yard line.
- 1:49:43Sauer out five to the left. Namath has Boozer and Snell behind him.
- 1:49:48And Maynard flank right.
- 1:49:51To Snell over left tackle a gaping hole to the 30, the 35, the 40.
- 1:49:56Tripped up by Kellerman and Sumner.
- 1:50:0015 yard pick up. Rasmussen and Hill, the left side on the block to open the hole.
- 1:50:05Namath has all defenses so conscious of his throwing that it really opens up his running game.
- 1:50:11Dale Lindsay was ready to take a good shot at Snell but got a nice block from somebody and took him right out of the picture.
- 1:50:18Sauer now flanks to the left. Maynard splits five at right end. Center to the balls west.
- 1:50:26They'll get a dry one in.
- 1:50:31Six, 14 remaining. Third quarter. Browns lead 24-14.
- 1:50:41Namath throwing quickly left flat. Caught by Sauer. He's knocked down at the 45 by Walt Sumner.
- 1:50:49Five yard pick up. Second and five.
- 1:50:55It's been an exciting ball game.
- 1:51:00A few mistakes. A number of penalties. Still exciting.
- 1:51:05Sauer's a pretty big name in professional football. His father at one time was personnel director of the New York Jets.
- 1:51:11He himself wants to be an author and has written several articles and is working on a novel I think.
- 1:51:18Maynard flanks right. Sauer's out five to the left. Lammon's out about a half yard on the right side.
- 1:51:24Give to Boozer cutting outside right end. Hit at the 48 and hit. Stopped at the 50 by Barnes.
- 1:51:31I believe Darlington. No, it's Shirk.
- 1:51:37Well, it's going to be about a half yard short of a first down.
- 1:51:44Third down coming. Five minutes to play in the third quarter.
- 1:51:50Even though the Browns have outscored the Jets in this particular quarter, still the momentum is with the Jets. They've held on to the ball.
- 1:51:55The Browns touchdown came on a 94 yard kickoff return. Other than that, it's been pretty much a jet quarter.
- 1:52:02Sauer flanks to the left. Maynard out about five at right end.
- 1:52:06And off comes to Snell over left tackle. First down. Plenty to spare.
- 1:52:11All the way to the Browns. Forty-six. Kellerman and Lindsay on the stop.
- 1:52:17Jets have a very fine offensive line.
- 1:52:22Both opening holes for the passing game and protecting Joe Neiman.
- 1:52:32Jets out of the huddle. Maynard is flanked to the right.
- 1:52:36Sauer splits five at left end. Lamans out a half yard at right end.
- 1:52:40And off. Boozer. Check that at Snell over left tackle to the 45 to the 41 yard line.
- 1:52:47Houston and Lindsay on the tackle. I made that one sound like the stutter offense, didn't it?
- 1:52:55Three forty-nine remaining. Third quarter. Second and five.
- 1:53:02Snell's closing in on a hundred yard game. He's now up to eighty-seven and fourteen carries.
- 1:53:11Maynard is flanked to the right. Sauer out five yards at left end.
- 1:53:18Give to Snell. Right tackle. There's no hole that time. He's knocked down at the 41 yard line.
- 1:53:22Walter Johnson, Ron Snydo on that stop.
- 1:53:28Cut just about a yard. Third and four coming.
- 1:53:32Now this is almost an obvious passing play here, especially since he stayed on the ground for so long.
- 1:53:38He has four straight plays on the ground. Let's see what Joe calls now. See if the Browns can hold him.
- 1:53:47They could conceivably be in field goal range, but once again this is against the wind and I don't think they'd like to go for a forty-seven, forty-eight yarder.
- 1:53:55Maynard is flanked to the right. Sauer out five at left end. Lamans out about a half yard at right end.
- 1:54:03Namath to throw. Fires to the left. It's caught by Boozer and he's down on the 32 yard line.
- 1:54:11That's a first down. Sumner and Lindsay on the stop. Close to the 31.
- 1:54:18And George Knock has come in the ball game, replacing Boozer. And also Lee White has come in to replace Snell.
- 1:54:29The Browns must be tired.
- 1:54:35One thing about them, they mix up their runners. One doesn't carry twenty-five times to eight for the other.
- 1:54:40It's fifteen for Snell and eleven times for Boozer.
- 1:54:43Maynard flanks to the right. Sauer out about four yards now at left end.
- 1:54:49Namath to throw. He sets. Fires deep over thrown at the five yard line.
- 1:54:55Intended for Maynard. The Browns had a blitz on, but the Jets picked it up.
- 1:54:59Dale Lindsay was firing in from the right side.
- 1:55:02Here is Richard Castor coming in to replace Maynard who just had a long run.
- 1:55:07Castor is in for his first play now of the night.
- 1:55:10Started to come in earlier and was chased back off.
- 1:55:13Here is Jackie from Jackson State. Six-five, two-twenty and he flies.
- 1:55:26He will be New Ridge Barnes' responsibility.
- 1:55:30New Ridge just had a long run and stays on the field.
- 1:55:34Second and ten. Castor flank to the right. Sauer out four yards at left end.
- 1:55:39Lamond's out about a half yard on the right side. Namath to throw it again.
- 1:55:44He's hit. Down. Back on the forty-three yard line by Jack Gregory.
- 1:55:51That's the first time either quarterback has been spilled. It's an eleven yard loss.
- 1:55:58Make it ten yards. The ball back on about the forty-two.
- 1:56:08Namath is really fussing in the huddle.
- 1:56:17I'm glad we didn't pick up that one.
- 1:56:24A minute and a half remaining. Third quarter. Third down. Twenty to go.
- 1:56:30Sauer out four at left end. Castor is flank to the right.
- 1:56:35Maybe calling an automatic now.
- 1:56:39Namath back to throw. He fires. It is overthrown at the thirty-five.
- 1:56:45And nobody was covering. George Knot the running back.
- 1:56:48And the right tackle, Jerry Shirt, just unloaded on Namath.
- 1:56:52And he took the center. Schmidt right back into him.
- 1:56:55The good thing, nobody was on the ball. The ball was overthrown because nobody was covering Mr. Knot.
- 1:57:01And a big hand for the Browns defense.
- 1:57:07The Gats are going to try a long field goal.
- 1:57:15Make it an even fifty yards. Barnes back in single safety.
- 1:57:20Jim Turner to attempt. George Sauer holding. Barnes standing at the five.
- 1:57:27Minute and remaining. Third quarter. Browns lead by ten.
- 1:57:35Snap. The kick. It's up. It is short. And it goes to the left of the goal post.
- 1:57:40A touch back. The Browns will take over at the twenty yard line.
- 1:57:44Still leading twenty-four to fourteen. And the defensive unit is getting a big hand.
- 1:57:53Defense was out there for a long time.
- 1:57:59Of course the offense needs to play some ball control to let the defensive unit of the Browns get a rest.
- 1:58:05They were out there about six and a half minutes, Gibb.
- 1:58:13All right. The Browns out of the huddle starting at the twenty. Collins flank right.
- 1:58:18Booker splits eighth at left end. Morin out of yard at right end.
- 1:58:26Nelson fakes the handoff. Throws. It is dropped by Milt Morin at the thirty-two.
- 1:58:34Holliman covering. Milt seemed to be. Seemed as though he turned. He couldn't quite find the ball and fought it for a second.
- 1:58:42He looked like he was surprised when the ball hit him and he kind of did some sort of a reaction, a jerk, and all of a sudden he didn't have control of it.
- 1:58:56Down to fifty-nine seconds of the third period now.
- 1:59:00Most of the scoring was done in the first five minutes as we opened the second half with Homer Jones' ninety-four yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
- 1:59:11Browns having trouble lining up now. OK. Hooker's a slot left. Collins splits seventh to the left. Morin out of yard at right end.
- 1:59:19Handoff. Kelly on a dive over left tackle. Gets a yard to the twenty-one. Thompson knocks him down along with Atkinson.
- 1:59:25The middle linebacker. It'll be third and nine. Browns have had no luck running the football.
- 1:59:33Well, Blanton Collier said he thought one of the big reasons that they won the Super Bowl was their defense.
- 1:59:38He said it's always been a whale of a defensive ball club, but it always is in the shadow of a Joe Namer through Don Maynard, some of the more glamorous names.
- 1:59:46He said they had a tremendous defense and he thought that the defense won that big game and caused the upset against Baltimore.
- 1:59:52And the only one big on that line is Biggs at two seventy. The others are around two forty-five. Kelly now has a slot left. Collins flanked to the right.
- 2:00:00He's got a chance to throw the fire. It is clocked like down more than a thirty to the thirty five and he's down on the thirty six yard line.
- 2:00:08We have a flag drop back on the 13 yard line. Hallman made the tackle. They're going to call it back.
- 2:00:14Bill Nelson is mad as he kicks the dirt. They're back on the infield part of the stadium here.
- 2:00:20And if it's following a pattern, it'll probably be offensive holding.
- 2:00:27Bill Nelson after Milt Moore and dropped one went right back to him from the twenty one to the eleven half the distance holding against the Brown.
- 2:00:41The umpire usually calls the holding penalties if it's all by the umpire tonight. He's been busy.
- 2:00:47John Little, the new defensive left hand now another rookie replacing Mark Lomas. Third down for the Browns about twenty three to go for the first down.
- 2:00:59Eleven seconds remaining third quarter. Brown really backed up deep now.
- 2:01:04Collins split seven to the right. Hooker flank left. Nelson going to throw from the end zone.
- 2:01:08Drills it deep in the middle of the Kelly. He can't hang on to it as it's out of his hand at the twenty six yard line by Ralph Baker and he almost picked it off.
- 2:01:17They both took a swipe at the ball. Neither got it. Browns will punt now from the end zone.
- 2:01:24One thing about this punt, they only have four seconds left to play in this period and there is a rather strong wind and Don Cockroft is going to get that advantage.
- 2:01:33And going into this fourth period now the Browns will be facing that stiff win. And remember we're only ten points apart in this ballgame and that's seven and three for the Jets should they choose to and also get in a position to go for a tie.
- 2:01:49Jets probably will put a rush on now. Battle and Bell are the deep men. Snap to Cockroft. They do not put a rush on. Beautiful high spiral. Bell under it. Got it on the forty of the Jets. Right sidelines forty five. Hit hard on the forty nine and driven back.
- 2:02:05Hard, hard tackle by Al Jenkins. And there is the gun. That's the end of the third quarter with the score. The Browns twenty four. The Jets fourteen.
- 2:02:16A recent consumer study revealed the consumer knows very little about the kinds and grades of lumber on the market. If you happen to be one of those folks we have a solution for you.
- 2:02:25Deal with people in whom you have confidence. Some place like the Worcester Lumber Company. If you take their advice they'll make it right if a mistake is made.
- 2:02:33The Worcester Lumber Company carries Wayne garage doors. Louis Carter makes this interesting observation. Quote, once you have an electric garage door opener you wouldn't consider ever being without one.
- 2:02:42If you want one the Worcester Lumber Company will install it for you. It's about time to get that old storm door replaced too. It'll cost you just twenty nine ninety five for the door and for a small additional fee the folks at Worcester Lumber Company will install it for you.
- 2:02:54Yes if you have any questions at all about building or building materials we urge you to stop by the Worcester Lumber Company where the friendly folks will be more than glad to help you with any problems you may have.
- 2:03:05We suggest you stop at your earliest convenience and avoid the rush. Worcester Lumber Company opposite the fairgrounds in Worcester.
- 2:03:14Fifty four yard punt nine yard punt return the Jets now have the ball fifty one yards away from their third touchdown ten points separated in fifteen minutes to play in this ballgame. It's been a real fine fine opener for these two ball clubs as the Jets stay on the road for the next two games.
- 2:03:38The first two rounds hit the road for a single game. The next home game is two weeks from last Saturday October 3rd a Pittsburgh Steelers normal Saturday night visit and keep in mind the game is a nine o'clock kickoff time.
- 2:03:52That's to stay in the same area of kickoff time that these Monday nights are so they're going to be a night game. They're all at nine afternoons at one.
- 2:04:00They're going to be a real in as the flanker for the Jets. He's flanked to the right and sour is put up eight to the left. Give the smell now the whole the left tackle to the 40 35 down on the Browns 32 yard line Billy Andrews made the tackle.
- 2:04:16He's the new right side linebacker.
- 2:04:1819 yard pick up again for smell that puts him over 100. The Jets after three quarters have run 53 plays to the Browns 40 and the Jets control the ball now.
- 2:04:33Castor is split seven to the right. Sauer is flanked left. Lamans tied on the left side and off to Boozer left tackle 30 28 Lindsey on the not Lindsey Garlington rather on the tackle along with how smell is going out of the lineup.
- 2:04:53Lee White is coming in as one of the running backs loser stays in. That was a four yard pick up and Boozer is averaging four yards.
- 2:05:03As I mentioned he is the man that is before and five yard yard you to death and give it to smell for the long game.
- 2:05:11Castor flank to the right sour up five at left end and off Boozer on a dive down to about the 35 yard line. Walter Johnson on the tackle 25 yard line rather than up to 35.
- 2:05:28It'll be third down about three 13 30 remaining in the ballgame.
- 2:05:40Namath has connected one way or another four times out of the nine third down situations.
- 2:05:47Castor flank split to the right by seven sour is flanked to the left and off Boozer left tackle dives close to the 22 close to the first down Billy Andrews on the stop.
- 2:06:03He's a load isn't he. He is and how how often would you see a quarterback in this position stay on the ground and go with the same runner when you have a runner with smells capabilities but instead of giving it to him he gave it to Boozer for three straight carries.
- 2:06:16And here comes the chain gang looks like they may have it too.
- 2:06:24First down and Boozer has gone out of there. Knock is in the replace. You know Boozer only weighs 195 pounds. I don't believe that he looks like he's two oh five to 10 at least running back now are knock and white and five 11 the boo.
- 2:06:43Downs lead by 10 fourth quarter 1240 remaining jets out of the huddle. Castor flank to the right sour out five at left and lamins out a yard at right end on the draw knock is hit at the line hits now the 20 and down at the 19 yard line by Walter Johnson.
- 2:07:05I couldn't keep him in the back wheel and is it in first pick up a free second and seven.
- 2:07:13Namath keeping the bounce defense guessing.
- 2:07:19Third quarter he passed more than he ran one guy. Now he's staying on the ground.
- 2:07:25Castor flank to the right lamins out a yard at right end sour splits five to the left. Namath hands off to fight cutting outside the end 19 out of bounds about the 18 yard line Billy Andrews.
- 2:07:38Stung the play out to the sidelines. Walt Sunder then got him out of bounds and Sunder is hurt out of bounds on the far sidelines. His ankle I believe he's calling for some attention. The Browns see it and sent pretty summers out on the field but the Browns are going to have to take a time out.
- 2:07:57Walter hurt the ankle as he collaborated on the tackle. Now he's standing up.
- 2:08:06He's covering the right side and I believe it's it's the knee.
- 2:08:15Leo Murphy and Pippa Lido in between our line of sight and Walt Sunder but I think they're working on the right knee as Ernie Kellerman comes over to rejoin the huddle. Ready. Summers is in there ready.
- 2:08:40On the cabs brought Shane and Ben Davis.
- 2:08:50Well they're still standing on the far sideline and now is jogging back into the huddle. You know he tore some tape off his own knee and I wonder if maybe a little piece of tape didn't snap and that might scare.
- 2:09:08Well now Freddie was coming off but he's staying in there and here comes well out of the ballgame now there was some doubt Walt doesn't want to come out. Everybody wants to play of course but he's coming out now and put his in there at right corner back and the
- 2:09:25Brown Jets in this half have controlled the ball 26 plays to the Browns eight boos are in smell back into the running backs third down and seven for the Jets on the Browns 18 yard line.
- 2:09:38They have a slot formation to the left back the throw goes Namath.
- 2:09:41Incomplete and a flag called against the rich. I'm afraid that was obvious at the seven yard line. Not only that I think he was holding him to he had a hold of his hand as he tried to get around him and I don't think anybody's going to argue on that one.
- 2:09:57And that's a costly costly one because that makes it the same as a completed pass and even if you didn't make the yardage you would be first down it's down to the seven.
- 2:10:07The only thing is it might have saved a touchdown.
- 2:10:13Yes he had him beat get that Maynard is back in now as the flanker.
- 2:10:17He's flank right and sour split eight to the left.
- 2:10:21Lamans out about a half yard at right in.
- 2:10:25And off now.
- 2:10:41Jack Gregory got the football.
- 2:10:45I believe Jim that might not have been a good handoff. I don't think he had control. I don't either.
- 2:10:50Yeah. That ball was on its way out of his control before he even hit the line.
- 2:10:57I believe the interference was a big a big play there because as I say it probably saved a touchdown.
- 2:11:04Time will tell.
- 2:11:06I'm flying to the right. Look around five at left and more than about a half yard on the right side. Well 24 11 24 to play in the game give the Kelly right tackle he's jerked down at about the eight Baker the left line backer on it.
- 2:11:22And the defensive right tackle.
- 2:11:26He's got about a half yard at best.
- 2:11:32The Browns would like to first of all get out of the hole and keep the ball for a while and run out some of the time.
- 2:11:40A minute was taking this team up and down the field quite a few times tonight.
- 2:11:44Collins will flank right.
- 2:11:46Okay. After the left in the eye formation shifting out of it.
- 2:11:51One split about a yard and a half maybe two at right in Nelson's gonna throw it.
- 2:11:56It is caught by Collins on the twenty one yard line.
- 2:12:02That in traffic and ten and we're pinching on him and he grabbed it.
- 2:12:07One of the judges down. Collins is still down.
- 2:12:11Gary is hurt on the play.
- 2:12:13That'll be a Browns timeout again.
- 2:12:20That's one of the reasons you have Gary Collins in there whether he is injured slightly or not because he could sure catch it in traffic.
- 2:12:26He's a big muscle man and he just loves to have people hang on him because he just kind of shoulders them away.
- 2:12:32He is moving on the ground but the doctors are keeping him down.
- 2:12:36We cannot see what it is because the players are in our.
- 2:12:43One of the men who's tackling doesn't feel too well but he is up. I think Gary I would imagine from the type of collision might have been hit with somebody's knee in the helmet.
- 2:12:53Well I have his helmet off now and we're keeping him on the ground but as I say he is moving.
- 2:13:01Told you that Gary went in with a slight hamstring pull which happened 10 days ago.
- 2:13:07They kept him out of the giant game last Saturday night.
- 2:13:10Jim you swing your binoculars five yards to the left that can and the rookie cornerback is also down and being administered to by the jet stock.
- 2:13:18You're not even getting out. He's just getting up.
- 2:13:20And as we say Hicks was bending his shoulder for a while they're trying to flex his arm.
- 2:13:25So he was in the middle of that too. All three of them.
- 2:13:28Now Gary is sitting up. Now Gary is getting up.
- 2:13:31All three of them was quite a collision and here comes Gary accompanied by a couple of doctors and a couple of trainers.
- 2:13:43Gary got knocked out.
- 2:13:45What was it was that the double header a couple of games ago down in Memphis or somewhere that was the chief game right down in Memphis.
- 2:13:53All right. Hooker is now the flanker and Homer Jones becomes the split end.
- 2:13:59All on the 20 first down and 10 10 and 27 remaining ground with only one time out left now.
- 2:14:06Hooker blanks to the left. Jones blanks to the left. Hooker splits by the right end.
- 2:14:12There we go. Contact is made in the middle by Thompson the left tackle of the jet.
- 2:14:18Elliott also jumped and they're calling it against the jet five yards.
- 2:14:28The legal procedure. I always like the one they use in college.
- 2:14:34Coachman of the neutral zone. All right. That sounds very intellectual.
- 2:14:42I never put that down on this run down because I can't spell it.
- 2:14:46The only Homer Jones is flying to the left hookers out five at right in morons.
- 2:14:52What's a couple of left and give to Kelly left guard hits to about the twenty nine and digs for another yard to the 30 yard line.
- 2:14:58Thompson Elliott and Atkinson making the stop again a four that'll bring up second down in a yard to go.
- 2:15:07It was first and five after the penalty. John DeMare led the block and falls on the Cleveland 30.
- 2:15:14And we have 10 minutes remaining. Second in the yard to go.
- 2:15:28There are hooker blanks to the right. Homer Jones splits five six seven yards at left and more than a half yard at right end.
- 2:15:37Good to Kelly. He's close to the first down over left garden tackle at the 31 yard line. Atkinson the middle linebacker.
- 2:15:44Thompson the left tackle on the stop. Might have to measure.
- 2:15:49Pickerson leading the blocking. First down.
- 2:15:53No measurement. Well that's important to the Browns.
- 2:15:59Keeps the clock running. While the Jets don't have the ball and the Jets have been moving it as you mentioned they've moved it very very well in the second half and getting many more plays in the Browns.
- 2:16:12So as you mentioned the longer they can keep it the better.
- 2:16:15Homer Jones flank to the left there hooker up five at right end.
- 2:16:20Fake handoff Nelson rolls right. Fires upfield more and can't get it. It was reflected I believe by Hicks. Double coverage on more in that time the linebacker Atkinson had come back.
- 2:16:33And.
- 2:16:36Lucky for Nelson or fortunate I should say that he put the ball high in the air. Nobody could get it.
- 2:16:42Hicks is the defensive back with the Jets acquired from the Houston Oilers offseason. So we mentioned earlier that Jim Hudson was the only jet veteran as far as playing for the jet in that defensive back for their.
- 2:17:00Second and 10 Homer Jones flank to the left there hookers out seven at right end.
- 2:17:06Fake handoff screen to the left the both got he's hitting the backfield and he tries to get away. He's still fighting gets to about the twenty seven yard line picked up an extra yard after Grantham and hit him.
- 2:17:17Atkinson finally puts him down.
- 2:17:21Oh Scott is down on the ground now.
- 2:17:24That's a loss of four.
- 2:17:26Oh getting up very slowly. Matter of fact he is almost crawling toward the sideline and coming off with a decided limp and into the ballgame.
- 2:17:36Steve Engel is also carrying a shoe left shoe.
- 2:17:43The reason should be angle. It is angle angles in there. The Browns have only four runners but once again they have some on the cabs.
- 2:17:56The forty four remaining. I don't know why the clock stopped on that play was a completed pass. Boxer the running Jones with five to the left Nelson way back to throw he fires it's caught by more than a forty to the forty five to the fifty.
- 2:18:16All of it on the tackle first down Cleveland.
- 2:18:28This is becoming a favorite pattern of Bill Nelson to milk more than this is not. This is not a short one either. This is a deep pattern for the tight tight end came from lining up strong left over the middle.
- 2:18:50The former Jones is flanked to the left there hookers with five at right in no more than about a half yard at left in.
- 2:18:58The fifty feet to the forty five feet to the forty feet to the thirty six yard line another first down Thompson made the tackle. Fourteen yard pick up.
- 2:19:23The Browns are in a tough tough game.
- 2:19:39Both sides Jones flank left and off on the draw to Scott up the middle of the thirty four to the twenty five. He had for the left sidelines and pulled out on the 19 yard line by early Thomas.
- 2:19:54The Jets jumped off the matter whether they were pulled off or not. They were not. It's against the Jets it's declined first down Cleveland 17 yard pick up for both Scott the ball from the 19 yard line of the Jets.
- 2:20:09Six fifty eight remaining. All they have to do is get this one and despite the close to seven minutes left they get a touchdown here. You've got to feel reasonably comfortable.
- 2:20:24He moves his arms and an effort to silence the crowd here who is shouting go go go. First time I've seen him do that but I don't watch Blanton too often during a game hooker flank to the right Jones out for to the left more and splits to the right foot to Kelly trying to turn left and he's at the 15 yard line and pull down at the 15 by Hicks and by Grant and by Thomas.
- 2:20:49The Jets pick up a four more yard second down and six on the Jets 15 as he jumped into that group of tacklers there he just kind of squeezed the ball a little tighter to his chest.
- 2:21:01This is what you don't want to do down here when you're on the move and ready to take the game out of reach of your opponent. You don't want to crumble like the Jets did.
- 2:21:09That's the reason the Browns got another life here. Kelly's up now to 58 yards and most of them this half.
- 2:21:18Homer Jones flanks to the left more and up to the left hookers out seven at right in second down six to go Nelson hands off on the draw and both Scott is nailed as soon as he gets the ball by Elliott and by Baker and by Thompson at the 20.
- 2:21:36We have a flag on the play.
- 2:21:47Backfield in motion Cleveland declined by the Jets.
- 2:21:52Now it is.
- 2:21:55Eleven to go at the 20 down below Don Cockleff has his place kicking shoe on that's the square toe shoe and he now puts the helmet on in case he's needed.
- 2:22:06The Browns need 11 yards for the first down 20 for a touchdown 6 0 3 to play Browns lead by 10 points. Hooker flanks right more and up to the right.
- 2:22:18Homer Jones with five at left end Nelson the throw set by flag drop down holding on the play. It was thrown to a hooker and Steve Shannon was holding him so badly they got to put a saddle on in that guy.
- 2:22:37They'll call it interference first and goal on the seven yard line.
- 2:22:48That takes the jet penalties up to one hundred and fifty five yards they've had 16 of them for one hundred and fifty five they call it pass interference on the seven is good call for first and goal to go.
- 2:23:11The 11 to play the Browns come out of the huddle with Homer Jones blank to the left the ends are in Nelson gives the bowl Scott trying to turn the corner hit of the 10 he's going to be thrown out of bounds at the 11 by John Little the rookie defensive left
- 2:23:29and he just came in on that play in a second and goal at the 11 Browns sweet have not been working except on those quick flips and Scott on that one got too far behind his interference his interference was out in front of him about six yards and that's too much
- 2:23:47allowed the defensive man to come in between them and get to Scott before he even got the line of scrimmage but still in good shape second and 11 now.
- 2:23:57The real goal as you know you can add would be a 13 point margin it means they win for the Jets would necessitate to touchdown.
- 2:24:05Lookers good side to the right Jones flank left Nelson to throw set fire.
- 2:24:13It is over thrown at the goal line intended for milk more and Holloman was covering on the play Hicks was with him.
- 2:24:20I had an eye on both Scott at the time. Bill Nelson didn't say him though was wide open. Oh he was he was wide open at the 10 then he cut right in underneath the goal post that he was open but as we've observed so many times up here again it's real simple for us.
- 2:24:36You will notice that practice Jim standing behind the offense can't see anything to do.
- 2:24:45Terrible place to view a ball game is from down on the field when you're playing.
- 2:24:50It always amazes me why some people would who are close to ball clubs get field passes and go down there and watch it.
- 2:24:58I think that they'd rather be seen rather than watch the game themselves.
- 2:25:01Both ends split Jones flank left bird down Nelson throwing in the middle drop by milk more than the five yard line.
- 2:25:08Hicks was covering him. The Browns will go for the field goal. That would not have been a touchdown anyway.
- 2:25:16No. That he caught the ball at two men with him.
- 2:25:23Stopped at 544 give still lots of time the way Joe Namath runs it.
- 2:25:28Browns had it for over five minutes in that drive. We take something for granted he has to make this 18 yarder angle right at the hash mark.
- 2:25:39Mike tips holding snap spot kicks up. It is no good. It's off to the right.
- 2:25:47There's an official timeout on the field with the score the Browns 24 the Jets 14.
- 2:25:55Finally someone has built a small car a better way.
- 2:25:58One with all the best small car ideas like low price simple maintenance great gas mileage easy handling.

- 2:26:45Mercury makes better cars. It's the sign of a cat.
- 2:26:56Walt Summers on the sideline.
- 2:26:59Freddy Summers number 20 is in his position.
- 2:27:02And you can expect Mike Howell to shade himself over to the right to help out Freddy who hasn't had too much game action in that particular spot.
- 2:27:10Well seems to be all right but he's on the side.
- 2:27:19Get the bottle. Castor is backing the flanker. He is playing for the right.
- 2:27:22Sowers split the five six seven yards at the left end.
- 2:27:25Lamond's out a half yard on the right side.
- 2:27:28Name it back to throw.
- 2:27:31He fires it is caught up at the 30 boosers of the 35.
- 2:27:36I think Namath do that one almost sidearm to get rid of in a hurry.
- 2:27:40But it got there.
- 2:27:42Andrews in Houston on the tackle first down for the jet pick up about 14 yards.
- 2:27:47The market little over the 34 yard line.
- 2:27:50Five fifteen remaining jets trail by 10.
- 2:27:55Castor will flank right Sauer out five at left end.
- 2:27:59Lamond splits a yard at right end.
- 2:28:05Five minutes remaining.
- 2:28:07Namath to throw.
- 2:28:09Fire.
- 2:28:10It is caught by Castor at the 50 and he's pulled down by Kellerman on the Browns 48 yard line.
- 2:28:1717 yard pick up first and 10 for the jet on the move.
- 2:28:21They got to fight the clock to.
- 2:28:25How would you like to be tuned in on the conversation between Mo Julefsky along with Howard Drinker and the linebacker Eddie Ulymsky and all those men on defense trying frantically to stop this man who is now really showing that he is Joe Namath the man who is so accurate.
- 2:28:46Namath back to throw again.
- 2:28:48He fires it is caught.
- 2:28:51The 35 down on the 34 yard line by Fred Summers and by Andrews.
- 2:28:58Pick up 14 yards first down again for the jet at the 33 yard line of the Browns.
- 2:29:04Four minutes remaining.
- 2:29:06Namath hasn't scored yet and he still has to fight the clock.
- 2:29:10Taking them from the 20 down to the 33 in three plays all completed.
- 2:29:17Browns of course prefer to give him the short one.
- 2:29:21At least make him earn it.
- 2:29:23No no stop the clock to get a dry ball in.
- 2:29:29Three I think is informed in the clock going to start it does they did not get the clock stop except to change the ball.
- 2:29:37If this were asked to turn.
- 2:29:39Yeah but I think they'd be changing balls on every other play right.
- 2:29:43The right side of the left Lamond's out of yard and right in name of the throw.
- 2:29:49He fires deep.
- 2:29:51Touchdown to power.
- 2:29:57Thirty three.
- 2:30:07Three twenty two remaining thirty three yard touchdown pass from Namath to power.
- 2:30:15Boy if you're a jet fan that's about as pretty a series in four plays all passes to the power one to cast one to booze it from the 20 80 yards in four plays.
- 2:30:26Now turn it to attempt the point.
- 2:30:28Now holding at the 10.
- 2:30:37It's good.
- 2:30:38There's an official timeout on the field to score the Browns 24 the Jets 21.

- 2:31:53Unofficially he stands at 3 0 3 18 out of 30.
- 2:31:57Johnny United has 25.
- 2:31:59Joe hasn't been around nearly as long.
- 2:32:01So you know what that particular statistic means.
- 2:32:04Jim Turner now ready for the kickoff Willie on sighted or not.
- 2:32:08Nope he hit it.
- 2:32:11And it is Homer Jones at the goal line by 10.
- 2:32:15He hit once gets away to the 12 15 left sidelines out of bounds on the 20 two yard line.
- 2:32:23Jimmy Jones the man who got him out of bounds.
- 2:32:29The offense carries the load for the Browns trying to get at least one first down.
- 2:32:34Maybe we'll need to.
- 2:32:35And of course the Jets defense will try to prevent it.
- 2:32:40Right here the fact the Browns only have one time out as long as they hold on to the ball this is fine.
- 2:32:45They wouldn't they don't care about calling it.
- 2:32:48They will get the timeout in one minute 11 seconds down to the two minute the Jets have all three left.
- 2:32:54Booker planks right.
- 2:32:55Homer Jones out five at left then more and out a half yard at right end.
- 2:33:02Give the both got left guard no hole.
- 2:33:05He's hit hard by Atkinson boasting a little hesitant going through the hole.
- 2:33:09And Atkinson slammed into him.
- 2:33:13He got a half yard at best.
- 2:33:18Two fifty three remaining.
- 2:33:21Block is running Browns lead by three.
- 2:33:25It hasn't been this close since it was.
- 2:33:29It hasn't been this close since it started.
- 2:33:32Seven nothing.
- 2:33:34Jones out four to the left.
- 2:33:36Booker flank to the right to thirty four remaining.
- 2:33:40Give the Kelly right tackle to the twenty four.
- 2:33:43That's all Atkinson again on it.
- 2:33:45So is Lomas left and Thompson the left tackle.
- 2:33:49John Demare is coming to the sideline Jim Copeland and to replace him.
- 2:33:54John is losing his right shoe and it's off.
- 2:33:57I don't think he's injured at all.
- 2:33:58I think he just lost his shoe and he's coming back.
- 2:34:01I think he's going to take it back on.
- 2:34:03Jets have called a timeout.
- 2:34:04I don't know why two ten remaining.
- 2:34:06They're going to get a timeout in 10 seconds anyway.
- 2:34:10I don't know.
- 2:34:11I was surprised that the Browns desperately trying to pick up a first down here to hold on to the ball.
- 2:34:16Now they're faced with a third situation and still seven.
- 2:34:19You go to the air and you stay on the ground.
- 2:34:22Well the clock has stopped for the courtesy of the Jets.
- 2:34:25In a way of an opening 1970 season football game here tonight.
- 2:34:30A lot of action scoring back and forth 14 and nothing first period 14 seven half time and it was 24 14 now 24 21 Brown pretty much dominated the first half.
- 2:34:47Jets came back to dominate the second half but that doesn't make any difference whether you can put it in or you can put it through the upright.
- 2:34:54It stands now at the field goal by Don Cockroft that spells the difference on the 24 yard line third down and along seven.
- 2:35:06They're a hooker blank to the right.
- 2:35:08Homer Jones out three at left and now they shift out of the eye.
- 2:35:11Homer splits five at left in more and out to the right and big play third down seven Nelson to throw sets pumps.
- 2:35:20He can't find a man.
- 2:35:21He's going to run with it.
- 2:35:22He's got twenty six and twenty seven and that's all and that means the Browns will have to find Grantham made the tackle with Atkinson.
- 2:35:29The two minute warning is coming.
- 2:35:32Nelson is up and let's ease OK.
- 2:35:35Two minute warning there's an official timeout on the field the score the Browns 24 the Jets 21.

- 2:36:34Stipes Drugstore East Liberty Street across from the Penn Station in Worcester.
- 2:36:45On the bus with all the picked up by battle at the 10 yard line.
- 2:36:49He's hit a three and he's down on the two yard line.
- 2:36:51He made a bad decision to pick up the ball and let it bounce.
- 2:36:55He called for the fair catch and let the ball hit at the 30 and rolled all the way to the 10 battle picked it up at the 10 yard line and finally got nailed.
- 2:37:02He's got a four yard line.
- 2:37:05I'll tell you I think he thought that ball was going to go out of bounds because it was mighty close to the near sideline between the 25 and 20.
- 2:37:12That was definitely a Cleveland bounce and he picked it up on the pen and went back to the four sixty three yard front.
- 2:37:19Jeff starting at the four with a minute thirty eight remaining name it is running with a ball around the left sidelines and he's knocked down at the four yard line.
- 2:37:32It must be a mixed up on the play.
- 2:37:33I think Matt now looking to Emerson Boozer and holding his hands out as if to say what happened.
- 2:37:38That's a yard loss for name it.
- 2:37:40He turned around to hand it off and nobody was coming.
- 2:37:43Matt Boozer was just sitting there get a break after this play clock running a minute 20 jets are 97 yards away from winning it.
- 2:37:53Bounds lead by three points the jet huddling in the end zone.
- 2:37:57Second and eleven.
- 2:38:02Walt Sumner is back in at right cornerback.
- 2:38:06The flanker to the right power with five to the left lamb and got a yard at right and name it in the end zone.
- 2:38:13Drills that have batted away in the end zone by one of the Browns linemen.
- 2:38:19I think neither Gregory or I think it was.
- 2:38:25Let's take 10 seconds for a station identification.
- 2:38:27This is a Cleveland Browns football network.
- 2:38:29High school the College of Worcester Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns football on WWW ST FM stereo in Worcester.
- 2:38:43Not too bad an opening game is it.
- 2:38:46Fifty three seconds left third and eleven jets on their own three after a blank right slot back to the left.
- 2:38:56Is Boozer name it the pro fire.
- 2:39:01It is hot and it is a completed path.
- 2:39:05Then out of bounds goes George Fowler at the 18 yard line if they first down.
- 2:39:14Well nobody from the Browns defense griped at it.
- 2:39:17Some of the fans did.
- 2:39:19Maynard back in the ballgame replacing Castor at Blanker. Now they've got to be sorry they call that timeout.
- 2:39:27They still have two left but they can always use another one.
- 2:39:30And there's a forty seven second mark.
- 2:39:33The court will try not to allow the deep pass.
- 2:39:36I assume Maynard flank right our five to the left lamb is not a half yard at right end name it back to throw.
- 2:39:44Fires in the middle of the center by Billy Andrews on the twenty five yard line.
- 2:39:49Andrews to the point a fifteen.
- 2:40:18Billy Andrews intercepted a Joe Neiman pass and ran at twenty five yard through the Jets and through pandemonium to win the ballgame just now for the Cleveland Browns.
- 2:40:42Mike that's holding and Don Cockerock will pack on the point it's up.
- 2:40:46Good.
- 2:40:48Thirty five seconds remaining in the ballgame and the Browns lead thirty one to twenty one and a breather.
- 2:40:57Another one of those cakewalks.
- 2:40:59Yeah.
- 2:41:00We constantly refer to up there.
- 2:41:02Thirty one twenty one.
- 2:41:03Now Billy Andrews who is not among the starting unit in the defensive backfield.
- 2:41:11His position is backing up John Garlington as the left linebacker.
- 2:41:17He came through with the interception and I can't recall a Billy has ever intercepted one before.
- 2:41:22Make it they'll end it.
- 2:41:24He backed up on the right side.
- 2:41:26But I would have to assume that that is Billy's first touchdown as a member of the Cleveland Browns.
- 2:41:32But we'll probably have him we'll try to get him on the air.
- 2:41:35I'm sure he'll be surrounded by a gout of reporters that will try to have him as one of our interviewees on a locker room report which is going to follow in about 10 minutes.
- 2:41:43Thirty five seconds now.
- 2:41:45Don Cockerock giving it back to the Jets.
- 2:41:48Well and battle or deep it well hit battle taking a four yards deep drops it picks it up now stays there with it and the Jets will start at the 20.
- 2:41:58And that absolutely used up no time because in the last two minutes you wait for the ball to hit the receiver and for him to start running.
- 2:42:05He did not run.
- 2:42:07Didn't use up any time.
- 2:42:18And Al Woodall is the new quarterback Joe Namath is not on the field.
- 2:42:24And he's not going to be able to do any other things.
- 2:42:28There's no reason for the Jets to get Namath hurt because he can't win it with a very wise.
- 2:42:36So what all around the ball club the last few plays and he has the two new running backs with him also.
- 2:42:41Why did not Joe Jones hit all down.
- 2:42:45Gregory helped wrap him up.
- 2:42:47Joe Jones hitting first.
- 2:42:50Back on the 11 it is a good thing Namath was not in getting his knees banged up.
- 2:42:58Rock shows eight seconds.
- 2:43:03Now it shows 28 seconds.
- 2:43:05The Jets ready to play Namath on the sidelines as Woodall got back to throw fire in incomplete and almost intercepted by Walt Sumner on the 20 had it turned around and dropped it.
- 2:43:31The box shows four seconds.
- 2:43:42Well the fans are kind of giving it the name of now.
- 2:43:47Completely necessary.
- 2:43:49He's defeated that's not.
- 2:43:53All on the 11 yard line time for one more play.
- 2:44:02With all the quarterback.
- 2:44:06Back to throw at the two.
- 2:44:08Fires caught by Wayne Stewart.
- 2:44:23This area's most complete lumber yard is the Worcester Lumber Company.
- 2:44:27The big inventory there saves you a lot of time and money and the friendly folks at Worcester Lumber try their best to do both for you.
- 2:44:34Louis Carter has a couple of predictions which should interest anyone considering building this year.
- 2:44:39First of all it will cost considerably more to build during the latter part of this year than it does right now.
- 2:44:44Another observation by Louis merits the thought should a housing boom develop building material will become very scarce.
- 2:44:51So it would seem the better plan of action would be to make your plans now for any building you plan to do this year.
- 2:44:57If you decide to save money by doing all or part of your building yourself then Worcester Lumber is the place to buy those materials.
- 2:45:03They'll help you select the correct materials and save you both time and money.
- 2:45:07If you need it for building Worcester Lumber Company has it.

- 2:45:17Get those building supplies now and beat the price rise.
- 2:45:26Well the Browns open the 1970 season with a 31 21 win over the New York Jets and it went right down to the final minute before it was decided.
- 2:45:35So history has repeated itself as the Browns opened in the All-America Conference with a victory.
- 2:45:40Joined the National Football League in 1950 with a victory.
- 2:45:43And now in the new merged league as a part of the American Conference of the NFL open it with a victory.
- 2:45:49And it should be noted that we view bank the losing coach for the Jets walked out to midfield to shake hands
- 2:45:55and to exchange a few greetings with his old friend and the winning coach Blanton Collier after this game tonight.
- 2:46:01A record crowd for the Browns 85,703.
