Transcript
- 0:06Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to No Dribble, the podcast where we
- 0:09Speaker 1: talk about netball, but we talk about so much more.
- 0:12Speaker 1: And we have done it. We have made it through winter.
- 0:14Speaker 1: It is not spring. Yes, it is good. It's also bad, though,
- 0:18Speaker 1: isn't it, because netball happens in winter. So we have
- 0:22Speaker 1: to wait. We have to suffer through summer, although not
- 0:25Speaker 1: very far into summer next year to get back to
- 0:27Speaker 1: sun crops, supernetbwl. But fortunately we do have the diamonds
- 0:30Speaker 1: in spring. My name's Carolyn Swindle.
- 0:33Speaker 2: I'm kath Cox. Rabbits everyone, what does that mean?
- 0:36Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 0:36Speaker 2: We just always say rabbits. If you say rabbit's the
- 0:38Speaker 2: very first thing that comes out of your mouth at
- 0:40Speaker 2: the start of the month, it's good luck for the month.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Oh.
- 0:42Speaker 1: We just like to slam each other with pinch and
- 0:45Speaker 1: a punch at our house.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that's good. Yeah. I don't know about the
- 0:48Speaker 2: rabbits thing anyway, I got it out this morning.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Oh well, sometimes I forget you. Have you tracked it
- 0:52Speaker 1: to see whether it works?
- 0:53Speaker 2: Do you know? But I will from now. Well I'm
- 0:55Speaker 2: sitting here with you too, so that's a great start.
- 0:57Speaker 1: I was about to say and excellent, good luck. We
- 1:00Speaker 1: have someone with a voice back.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Oh look, I've thought I've got a voice back. Rabbits, rabbits.
- 1:04Speaker 3: Pinch and a punch to both of you, no returns.
- 1:06Speaker 3: It's Liz on the North coast Gold. It's cold where
- 1:10Speaker 3: I am, and look, I thought my voice would be
- 1:13Speaker 3: back by now, and it's not. And that's as much
- 1:17Speaker 3: a function of the fact that I've been to six
- 1:19Speaker 3: sporting or training events in the last four days, none
- 1:22Speaker 3: of which I was participating in, than it was about it,
- 1:26Speaker 3: like as much about that is about being six. So
- 1:28Speaker 3: I'm feeling much better, but I still sound like I've
- 1:31Speaker 3: been on the Whiskeys and Cities all weekend, which I haven't.
- 1:34Speaker 2: That makes me think that Liz is quite vocal on
- 1:36Speaker 2: the sideline.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Absolutely, would you expect any less.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Though, well, I thought she might.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Be a little bit more reframed, although she was telling
- 1:43Speaker 2: us a story about GONEF and seas.
- 1:47Speaker 3: Well I did. I didn't go to any F and
- 1:49Speaker 3: c's on the weekend, but no. Everyone had her Rugby
- 1:52Speaker 3: Grand Final Friday night, which didn't go as planned for
- 1:55Speaker 3: her ones planned for the other team. But I like,
- 2:00Speaker 3: all I cared about was that she got through it,
- 2:02Speaker 3: because really, who cares about rugby? I just care about netball.
- 2:05Speaker 3: So I was like, I don't care what the score is, sweetheart,
- 2:07Speaker 3: as long as you're not injured. Anyway, she didn't get injured,
- 2:09Speaker 3: so that's a win in my book. And then Saturday
- 2:12Speaker 3: was Nettie. It was our last round game. So now
- 2:14Speaker 3: semi finals this week, I know, which is exciting. And
- 2:19Speaker 3: so now I've turned into you know, sending lots of
- 2:22Speaker 3: messages on the WhatsApp group one need everyone at training
- 2:24Speaker 3: this time got to be ready to go. And one
- 2:26Speaker 3: of the dads set me back a gift that had
- 2:29Speaker 3: just someone saluting saying yes sir.
- 2:33Speaker 2: And that's exactly as it should be.
- 2:35Speaker 3: That's exactly right. What else did you expect? And then
- 2:38Speaker 3: yesterday was like a gala day and cricket training and
- 2:40Speaker 3: then today I've just got back from taking Austin to
- 2:43Speaker 3: Zone Athletics where he was in the discus.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Oh how did he go in the discus?
- 2:50Speaker 3: Well he came third, and that means we've got to
- 2:52Speaker 3: go to Coffs Harbor next week I think for regional
- 2:55Speaker 3: or whatever it is. Then you know, you have that
- 2:57Speaker 3: moment of on the one hand, you're like, oh, I
- 2:59Speaker 3: hope they go well. On the other hand, and you're like, oh,
- 3:01Speaker 3: hope not that well that we have to drug cross, haven't.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Oh do you know what I did to my dad?
- 3:05Speaker 2: So I still hold the shot put record at Cherrybrook
- 3:08Speaker 2: Public School. That's a long record. Anyway. I made it
- 3:12Speaker 2: through to whatever regional or whatever comes after that. For
- 3:16Speaker 2: the shop port. Dad drove me all the way to Campbelltown,
- 3:19Speaker 2: took the day off. We had to go to Campbelltown
- 3:21Speaker 2: for the thing. I did three fouls. We got back
- 3:25Speaker 2: in the car and drove back.
- 3:29Speaker 3: But do you know what he was wrapped because you
- 3:31Speaker 3: didn't qualify for the next part of it. So he
- 3:33Speaker 3: did have to take you anywhere after that exactly exactly.
- 3:37Speaker 2: But that's your point, isn't it. I'm so sorry dad.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Three fouls and go home. Well, it was all over
- 3:43Speaker 2: in a matter of minutes. Failed anyway, That's why I
- 3:46Speaker 2: played netball, not athletics.
- 3:48Speaker 1: So I've done some homework.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Oh oh gosh.
- 3:51Speaker 1: We asked Daryl to watch Greece too, and he refused.
- 3:56Speaker 1: I think we'll sack him from his unpaid job for insubordination. No,
- 4:00Speaker 1: I think it's fair enough that he refused, but I've
- 4:01Speaker 1: done a bit of research. I didn't watch it either,
- 4:04Speaker 1: but I've gone to Wikipedia. So Greece too, it is
- 4:07Speaker 1: said at the same school, Rye Ell High, three years later,
- 4:10Speaker 1: so it's Michelle Pfeiffer, so that was correct. And Maxwell
- 4:13Speaker 1: Porfield who plays clean cut British student Michael Carrington, who
- 4:18Speaker 1: was a cousin of Sandy Olsen, the character played by
- 4:21Speaker 1: Livia Newton John Right. Returning actors. There were some returning actors,
- 4:26Speaker 1: so Eve Arden who was principal McGee, Secretary Blanche Dodie
- 4:29Speaker 1: Goodman came back Frenchie. Deede conn came back as still
- 4:35Speaker 1: as Frenchie, and she was trying to promote her Beauty
- 4:38Speaker 1: school to students.
- 4:40Speaker 2: But like she wasn't a student.
- 4:42Speaker 1: No, she didn't come back as a student. If you
- 4:44Speaker 1: remember in Greece, she dropped out. She was Beauty school.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Drops so bad? Is it? Frankie Avalon? Is that who?
- 4:52Speaker 3: Or Frankie who sang that song? Frankie Frankie Avalon. I
- 4:55Speaker 3: just kept looking at his hair the other night when
- 4:57Speaker 3: I was.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Watching the movie forward that part.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Would that haircut survive the test of time? If you
- 5:03Speaker 3: read did Greece now you wouldn't You wouldn't allow that
- 5:05Speaker 3: here do There's just something I didn't like about it anyway,
- 5:09Speaker 3: So are you saying that friendship eventually went back to
- 5:11Speaker 3: beauty school and graduated.
- 5:13Speaker 1: I guess so been how old at school? You are
- 5:17Speaker 1: drilling so far down into my quick perusal of.
- 5:20Speaker 3: A Wikipedia entry about Greece, And that's a problem with
- 5:24Speaker 3: using Wikipedia to research.
- 5:26Speaker 1: There's more. This is interesting. Remember creative face, he was
- 5:31Speaker 1: the guy. Yeah, came as the same character. That's right.
- 5:36Speaker 1: So I couldn't work out like I think he might
- 5:39Speaker 1: have been in high school. So yeah, remember he went
- 5:42Speaker 1: out with Church. She was thirty five, God's sake, come on,
- 5:47Speaker 1: So there we go. Job. Also, interestingly, Eugene Felsnick came back.
- 5:52Speaker 1: I thought he was a student, so maybe he was
- 5:55Speaker 1: in year nine or something in Greece.
- 5:57Speaker 2: So in Greece, Eugene that got the pie in the face. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 6:02Speaker 2: Jeene fells Oh can you please watch it?
- 6:04Speaker 1: Well? Can you watch?
- 6:05Speaker 2: It's rabbit's touching my nose. It's great research. Appreciate that
- 6:13Speaker 2: word on you.
- 6:13Speaker 1: And Liz, I'll see your daughter not knowing that Greece
- 6:18Speaker 1: isn't about the country Greece and I will raise you.
- 6:20Speaker 1: This morning, Pete's been up at his parents place and
- 6:23Speaker 1: brought back a whole bunch of records, including the best
- 6:25Speaker 1: of Abba, which they bought me. This is the nineteen
- 6:27Speaker 1: seventy seven one they had, and my daughter picked it
- 6:31Speaker 1: up this morning and looked at it and she went,
- 6:34Speaker 1: they've got a lot of the same songs as in
- 6:36Speaker 1: Mamma Mia.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Oh God, love her.
- 6:38Speaker 1: I know what am I doing. I've failed.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Well, if you ask me, you haven't failed. I don't
- 6:46Speaker 2: like Abba. I think that's a win.
- 6:48Speaker 1: But if she should know that Mama Mia, she's seen
- 6:51Speaker 1: all three Mumma Mea movies, she should know that that
- 6:54Speaker 1: is based on the music of Abba. I would have
- 6:57Speaker 1: thought that is a fairly basic kind of piece of
- 7:00Speaker 1: cultural knowledge to hold.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Well. Maybe so she's had the education this morning, though, obviously.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. I had this similar experience
- 7:09Speaker 1: maybe fifteen years ago, when remember they re released They
- 7:12Speaker 1: brought out a new Footloose movie which was terrible, No
- 7:15Speaker 1: one should watch it, And my stepdaughter said, oh, I
- 7:18Speaker 1: didn't know that there was an original Footloose movie.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Well, she thought the second one was yeah, the yeah good,
- 7:26Speaker 2: Maybe you should watch the second Grease and I'll watch
- 7:28Speaker 2: the second Footloose. Oh god, okay, should we just both know? Watch?
- 7:32Speaker 3: Well?
- 7:33Speaker 1: Life for sure, isn't it? You know? Do you really
- 7:35Speaker 1: want to squander several hours of it on that? But yes,
- 7:38Speaker 1: I was. I was gobsmacked this morning at the Muma
- 7:41Speaker 1: mea thing so fail mother, Well.
- 7:45Speaker 2: My child hasn't done anything silly like that recently.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Well, mother's shaming.
- 7:50Speaker 2: But but girlfriend is the most uncoordinated person I think
- 7:56Speaker 2: I've ever come across. If anyone is injured, it's always
- 8:01Speaker 2: her or because of her. So we had our netball
- 8:05Speaker 2: pre lim on Friday night and it was an unreal game.
- 8:10Speaker 2: They were down by like four or five at halftime
- 8:12Speaker 2: to this team we'd never been before, and I was
- 8:14Speaker 2: a bit like, it's all over, red Rover. It's been
- 8:16Speaker 2: a great season. They got it back to level with
- 8:19Speaker 2: minutes remaining in the game and the other team got
- 8:22Speaker 2: up by one. So it was a very exciting real game.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Or so proud of them. Anyway, we turtled off to
- 8:29Speaker 2: the after.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Partans are probably having a little PTSD at the moment, though.
- 8:34Speaker 2: The Dixon got a bit active. Anyway, we went to
- 8:37Speaker 2: one of the player's houses for a little after party,
- 8:40Speaker 2: and the kids were so full of beans. It was
- 8:42Speaker 2: great to see. They had the tunes up, they were dancing,
- 8:44Speaker 2: they were eating pizzas whatever. Parents were all inside having
- 8:47Speaker 2: some champagne, chatting away. Great night. You know when you're like,
- 8:51Speaker 2: should I have one more drink or should I go home? Yeah,
- 8:54Speaker 2: next time I get to that point, I'm going to
- 8:55Speaker 2: go home, because it seems to be if you hang around,
- 8:59Speaker 2: you give the kid's, the tired kids, more opportunity for
- 9:03Speaker 2: something to go around. Anyways, we're all sitting there having
- 9:06Speaker 2: a great time. Next minute, one of the girls comes
- 9:09Speaker 2: in holding her nose, balling her eyes out, couldn't speak,
- 9:15Speaker 2: takes this is to the parents, so she's left the
- 9:17Speaker 2: kids in the other room, takes her hands away. It
- 9:20Speaker 2: was claret for days. And then in comes a very
- 9:25Speaker 2: sheepish harper right behind her. So they were doing handstands
- 9:29Speaker 2: and old mate, who's nearly cleaned me up a thousand
- 9:32Speaker 2: times because she doesn't look where she's going before she
- 9:34Speaker 2: flicks he legs in the air, clocked her best friend
- 9:37Speaker 2: in the nose and it's safe to say it's broken.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Oh no, the amount of blood and it got a
- 9:44Speaker 2: lump and a big bruise on it straight away. I
- 9:47Speaker 2: saw this kid yesterday. She's got black eyes. Like it's
- 9:50Speaker 2: not good anyway. Harper's like, oh, mama, just it was
- 9:55Speaker 2: an accident. I'm like, it's an accident, yes, buddy, but
- 9:59Speaker 2: you've got to appreciate the length of your limbs. You've
- 10:02Speaker 2: got no idea. So she cleaned up another kid yesterday
- 10:05Speaker 2: at the zoo too, because she was running in their legs.
- 10:08Speaker 2: She fell down, took the skin off her.
- 10:11Speaker 3: I feel like, Catherine, there is no surprise, and that
- 10:13Speaker 3: she's wearing the goalkeeper big.
- 10:15Speaker 2: But she's coordinated when she plays keeper. What's that about?
- 10:18Speaker 2: Can't play attack because we'll trip over our own feet,
- 10:22Speaker 2: but can play keeper? Well, I feel like I feel
- 10:25Speaker 2: like that's the story of your life.
- 10:29Speaker 3: Sometimes I'll make a comment to people I'm so clumsy,
- 10:31Speaker 3: and like you blame nball for astro. I'm like, no, no,
- 10:34Speaker 3: you don't understand the moment I got caught on the klutz. Yes,
- 10:38Speaker 3: slash things and I hurt people, and I mean I've
- 10:41Speaker 3: done the same to you, Catherine, post grade final, I
- 10:43Speaker 3: break your nose once, So I feel like it's just
- 10:46Speaker 3: half an eight like, maybe my spirit.
- 10:48Speaker 2: Out of his house.
- 10:49Speaker 3: My god, you're telling this story and I'm like, I've
- 10:54Speaker 3: heard this story before. Was after the two thousand ten
- 10:58Speaker 3: Grand Vinyl or something hasn't old retired by then two
- 11:01Speaker 3: thousand and four Grand Final.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't know when you're as much blood that day,
- 11:06Speaker 2: this kid, I'm still standing at the end and these
- 11:11Speaker 2: are to No, this is someone else's house. So that's
- 11:14Speaker 2: when the party kind of wrapped up at that point,
- 11:16Speaker 2: when there was blood all over their floor and time
- 11:18Speaker 2: to go home now everyone, it was not good anyway.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Well, maybe she'll go to his own and foul out
- 11:26Speaker 1: three times and you can turn around and drive her
- 11:28Speaker 1: home one day.
- 11:29Speaker 2: I think she's probably more likely to throw the shot
- 11:31Speaker 2: put at somebody and hurt them.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Don't give her a javelin. No, Okay, so you mentioned
- 11:46Speaker 1: spirit animals. I did ask last week for the Dribblers
- 11:50Speaker 1: to nominate some spirit animals. Thank you. Darryl had come up.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Did you see Darryl asked chat gpt to do his job. Frankly,
- 11:58Speaker 1: now come on, get chat Cheep to watch Grace too
- 12:01Speaker 1: for you, Daryl. But he asked chat gpt to anthropomorphize
- 12:05Speaker 1: that photo of the three of us, and you were
- 12:08Speaker 1: a draft Liz, you were a kangaroo and I was
- 12:12Speaker 1: a Tasmanian devil.
- 12:13Speaker 3: I felt like my kangaroo looked a little bit like
- 12:15Speaker 3: a donkey?
- 12:20Speaker 1: What's that telling us?
- 12:22Speaker 3: I don't know what. I love that you two wouldn't
- 12:24Speaker 3: touch it.
- 12:29Speaker 1: So have you guys had to think about what your
- 12:31Speaker 1: spirit animal might be? Or have any of your family
- 12:34Speaker 1: or friends given you any helpful feedback?
- 12:37Speaker 2: Well, I asked the kid. She looked at me for
- 12:39Speaker 2: a while. I think she thought it meant what you
- 12:41Speaker 2: look like? Yeah, she goes, I can see seal.
- 12:45Speaker 1: I I don't know what as in kiss from a rose,
- 12:48Speaker 1: seal or as Either.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Way, it's not good, is it? Lighty? Kloan? I'll take it.
- 12:53Speaker 2: But I'm not at Rex's husband. I reckon. I'm a
- 12:56Speaker 2: bit I reckon. I'm either I'm a labrador because you know,
- 13:00Speaker 2: excited to see people and whatever, but I'm also a
- 13:02Speaker 2: bit of a mere cat. I'm thinking, boys, what's coming on?
- 13:04Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 13:06Speaker 2: What are we doing now?
- 13:08Speaker 3: I don't know that one.
- 13:09Speaker 2: That was a hard one for me to answer. What
- 13:11Speaker 2: did you come up with?
- 13:12Speaker 1: Well? I asked my family again, Well, it's quite fun
- 13:17Speaker 1: to give them an opportunity to get some stuff off
- 13:20Speaker 1: their chest. My daughter immediately said ferret, which I which
- 13:26Speaker 1: I sort of. I said, if you got something nice,
- 13:28Speaker 1: so she said that is nice. So remember, not so
- 13:30Speaker 1: long ago, we met the ferret named cath. Oh, yeah,
- 13:33Speaker 1: this is her cousin's pet. And she quite she quite
- 13:36Speaker 1: liked Kat the ferret. You know, you're small and you're busy,
- 13:40Speaker 1: my son said a snapping turtle. So he said, you know, small,
- 13:45Speaker 1: you look kind of cute, but don't get too close.
- 13:48Speaker 1: And my husband was much more complimentary, and he said,
- 13:51Speaker 1: I think you're like a hummingbird. And it's like, yeah,
- 13:53Speaker 1: probably like just small and like I just busy, busy. Yeah, yeah,
- 13:58Speaker 1: I would have thought Jack. So mom was going to
- 14:00Speaker 1: say Jack Russell, because that's just yes, what.
- 14:03Speaker 3: Are we doing?
- 14:04Speaker 1: Hey, what are we doing? Let's go, let's go.
- 14:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I can see that. I can see that. Yeah,
- 14:08Speaker 2: I like that one. What about you, miss Elizabeth?
- 14:10Speaker 3: Well, I've been shit at my homework. I forgot to
- 14:12Speaker 3: ask my family, maybe mainly because my third and year
- 14:15Speaker 3: old didn't like me on the weekend, so I was
- 14:16Speaker 3: a bit scared of what response I might get. And
- 14:19Speaker 3: I've just literally been in the car for an hour
- 14:21Speaker 3: with my son and my husband, and I forgot to
- 14:23Speaker 3: ask them because I was talking about other things, and
- 14:25Speaker 3: I was going to say a mere cat, So that
- 14:27Speaker 3: just ruined Eavoro. I sort of put herself up as
- 14:30Speaker 3: a mere cat, but I don't actually, that's not really
- 14:33Speaker 3: my spirit animal. I just like them, think they're funny.
- 14:36Speaker 2: But that's why we're mates. See.
- 14:37Speaker 1: We went to the three years ago and we stayed
- 14:40Speaker 1: in the glamping tent things, and we got a tour
- 14:43Speaker 1: by one of the zookeepers there and took us down
- 14:45Speaker 1: to the meer cats and they've got you know, they
- 14:47Speaker 1: have a glass fence at the front, and he said,
- 14:50Speaker 1: at about three o'clock every day, the sun hits that
- 14:52Speaker 1: and turns it into a mirror. So all of the
- 14:54Speaker 1: mere cats every day stand up to fight, and what
- 14:57Speaker 1: they do they just sort of bounce their ready to fight,
- 15:01Speaker 1: and then of course the warring meer cats who've come
- 15:03Speaker 1: to oppose them, well they're bouncing at exactly the same time,
- 15:08Speaker 1: and then so the meer cats are like, well, no,
- 15:10Speaker 1: we've just got to stay firm bouncing, and then the
- 15:12Speaker 1: sun moves and the others run away. So the opposing
- 15:16Speaker 1: meer cats run and this happens every day, and the
- 15:19Speaker 1: meer cats have never worked out. Hey, that's just us.
- 15:21Speaker 2: In the mirror, a mere cat. It is all making perfect.
- 15:28Speaker 2: I go to fight.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Myself to it.
- 15:31Speaker 3: They run away. We'll go a little blue ren at
- 15:33Speaker 3: the moment that every morning does that on our door.
- 15:36Speaker 3: And he fights himself and he hits it. But it's
- 15:38Speaker 3: funny that he hits. He flies into the glass, flies
- 15:41Speaker 3: into the glass. He sits on the chair and he
- 15:43Speaker 3: flies up and pecks at the glass. And I just
- 15:44Speaker 3: don't understand why nothing of his brain goes that. Feel
- 15:48Speaker 3: like another bird.
- 15:51Speaker 1: We are perfectly in sync, this enemy bird and I.
- 15:55Speaker 2: One day that's not going to work out for him.
- 15:57Speaker 2: You might have to go.
- 15:58Speaker 3: He doesn't hit it with any great force, just sort
- 16:00Speaker 3: of picks at it. So yeah, so look, I don't
- 16:03Speaker 3: know that we've got coming in closer to figuring out
- 16:05Speaker 3: my spirit animal. I should go away and do a
- 16:07Speaker 3: bit more sort of homework.
- 16:09Speaker 1: I ca until you come up with a better suggestion.
- 16:13Speaker 2: You're a donkey, yeah, a half donkey, half kangaroo donkey roo.
- 16:18Speaker 3: I gave you because I could jump and I sometimes
- 16:20Speaker 3: sound like I'm braining particular in the moment. Maybe if
- 16:23Speaker 3: Donkey Roo is it?
- 16:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I like it. Can I tell you a story?
- 16:40Speaker 2: So last week I had two days in Melbourne doing
- 16:43Speaker 2: net set Go stuff with Netball Australia. It was so
- 16:46Speaker 2: much fun, Pst Australia stuff. Liz such awesome people and
- 16:52Speaker 2: so lovely, so switched on. So the whole thing just
- 16:56Speaker 2: ran so smoothly and I just had to rock up
- 16:59Speaker 2: and basically on some drills with these fabulous kids that
- 17:02Speaker 2: they called in, so there was about thirty kids. Anyway,
- 17:05Speaker 2: the very first session, I was demonstrating some warm up stuff,
- 17:09Speaker 2: so I was doing high knee kicks and all this,
- 17:11Speaker 2: and I'll tell you what I was getting off the ground.
- 17:14Speaker 2: I'm like, I have not lost this, I've still got core.
- 17:17Speaker 2: This this is looking good. I actually felt really good,
- 17:21Speaker 2: I kid you not. Within an hour my hips had
- 17:24Speaker 2: shut up shop and I was in so much pain.
- 17:28Speaker 2: And this was like a It was seven point thirty
- 17:31Speaker 2: to probably four pm that were at the courts. I
- 17:34Speaker 2: was on the ground stretching within a couple of hours.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Like that's how bad it was, Like how can he
- 17:40Speaker 2: go from hero to zero so quickly? But it put
- 17:43Speaker 2: me back in my place. So the next day, when
- 17:45Speaker 2: I had to do the warm up again, I was like, oh,
- 17:47Speaker 2: just I'll just do the jogging part.
- 17:52Speaker 3: Myself. Oh God, did you go into wool worst and
- 17:56Speaker 3: get some neuropan do you know what?
- 17:58Speaker 2: I actually contemplated it, but there wasn't one close by
- 18:01Speaker 2: that I could get the ante in flame. So I
- 18:02Speaker 2: did go home though, and just lie still and not move.
- 18:05Speaker 2: But funny because I saw yesterday all this fast five
- 18:09Speaker 2: not fast five? Is it? What's the competition that Maria
- 18:11Speaker 2: Tutare and to broader and doing five five? Yeah, it's
- 18:15Speaker 2: like it, but it's a version of fast five I think. Anyway,
- 18:17Speaker 2: Kat tou of Art's agreed to play in one of
- 18:19Speaker 2: the teams, and she posted something on socials yesterday she
- 18:22Speaker 2: was going for a run and she's filming herself smiling
- 18:26Speaker 2: and then she pulls this face. What am I doing?
- 18:31Speaker 2: And I just text her and I was like, what
- 18:33Speaker 2: are you doing? For real? When she goes, yeah, I know,
- 18:35Speaker 2: I'm so regretting saying yes to this decision. So I'm like,
- 18:38Speaker 2: she's exactly like me. I think at the idea that
- 18:40Speaker 2: the idea of it at the start seemed like a
- 18:41Speaker 2: good idea, but.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Then particularly fast five. It's like it's fits first the
- 18:46Speaker 1: normal netbook exactly.
- 18:48Speaker 2: But I guess she's hanging a hat on the fact
- 18:49Speaker 2: that she's just going to get the ball and drain
- 18:51Speaker 2: long shots and hopefully not have to do anything.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Yep, she can get I don't, I say, yep, like
- 18:55Speaker 1: I know what that's like FIRSTA I don't know.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Yeah, you could do it.
- 18:58Speaker 3: So I've agreed to play other daughter team for Twilight
- 19:01Speaker 3: Netball for a fast five. No, not a fast five,
- 19:04Speaker 3: but ballot a Twilight netball.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Oh no, but is it like a super shots and stuff.
- 19:09Speaker 3: No, no, there's the fast five component, but I'm not
- 19:12Speaker 3: playing in that competition. It was funny normal netball.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Oh I can't love it.
- 19:15Speaker 3: Yeah, just normally Twilight. And I'm just doing it because
- 19:20Speaker 3: on Ashfelt. No, well it's not Ashfelt. It's the you know,
- 19:22Speaker 3: the old weather surface.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Which can I just say on behalf of all of
- 19:27Speaker 1: the opposition teams piss off Lizzellis you know, come on, Carolyn.
- 19:33Speaker 3: I'm fifty two. I think I think, I think I'm
- 19:36Speaker 3: not a threat. Well I know I'm not a threat,
- 19:37Speaker 3: but there's well, one of my options right, there's a
- 19:41Speaker 3: Everyone was like, oh, there's a couple of girls in
- 19:43Speaker 3: her REP team and their mums are playing. And I
- 19:45Speaker 3: was like, oh, did she ask me? I'm not yea,
- 19:47Speaker 3: I'd like to play. We've been talking about putting in
- 19:49Speaker 3: a team, and I thought I'd like to play with
- 19:51Speaker 3: my daughter.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Did you have to ask your daughter to ask you
- 19:54Speaker 1: to play?
- 19:55Speaker 3: Maybe?
- 19:55Speaker 1: I just heard no.
- 19:57Speaker 3: So her and I have been talking about playing together,
- 19:59Speaker 3: and then and then there was a discussion about a
- 20:01Speaker 3: mother daughter's team and there we are.
- 20:04Speaker 2: So what position are you going to play?
- 20:06Speaker 3: I don't know, but would you whatever.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Do something other than defense or are they gonna stick
- 20:10Speaker 2: you there?
- 20:11Speaker 3: I just you know what, I don't know. I haven't
- 20:13Speaker 3: even thought that far. I just scared thinking more about
- 20:17Speaker 3: getting the physio and speeder. Yes, I wonder.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Actually, I'm really keen to see how you pull up
- 20:23Speaker 2: after the first game. When is that spring?
- 20:25Speaker 3: Spring?
- 20:26Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 20:26Speaker 3: I play tennis every week, so you know similar. I
- 20:30Speaker 3: don't have the change ofer coord.
- 20:32Speaker 2: No, I know, but I feel like it as I
- 20:34Speaker 2: discovered doing this warm up, which was literally ten minutes.
- 20:37Speaker 2: It's all the it's the hit movement and the like
- 20:41Speaker 2: your pelvis movement but if you're playing tennis, it's probably similar,
- 20:45Speaker 2: isn't it Like it's not going for a run in
- 20:46Speaker 2: a straight Line's yeah.
- 20:47Speaker 3: It's a bit similar. And I do pilates and stuff,
- 20:49Speaker 3: so I feel like that's okay. I'm just more worried.
- 20:51Speaker 3: A just had general sauness. I'm going to have or
- 20:55Speaker 3: channeling my inner half heart? How many times I'm going
- 20:57Speaker 3: to fall over and hurt myself? That's what's really No,
- 20:59Speaker 3: I hurt other people.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Just take someone else down with you when you go.
- 21:04Speaker 3: Why would I change?
- 21:05Speaker 2: Now, you've got a great base, you'll be fine.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Well, we'll see. I don't know, but I'm a shooter.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Yeah, so when is that? And when we when? Can
- 21:13Speaker 1: we look forward to updates?
- 21:15Speaker 2: I'll get the let's get up there and watch it.
- 21:17Speaker 3: That'd be great. I think I'll them that. Yeah, look,
- 21:19Speaker 3: I think you should come up and watch. I think
- 21:20Speaker 3: it's October sometime.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Get your gin, sit on the sideline. Are we allowed
- 21:24Speaker 2: to heckle? Can't tell us.
- 21:26Speaker 1: This, cath. You have been looking for this opportunity to
- 21:29Speaker 1: sit to watch some high quality sport drinking a can
- 21:33Speaker 1: of gin.
- 21:34Speaker 2: It's true.
- 21:35Speaker 1: I feel like we need to do this a high
- 21:37Speaker 1: quality sport entertainment. I reckon, But there is other netball
- 21:45Speaker 1: news of the week, isn't there. So the draw has
- 21:47Speaker 1: been released which is very exciting, and.
- 21:50Speaker 2: A head coach being announced for the Vixens that hadn't
- 21:53Speaker 2: happened for Yeah, that's true.
- 21:55Speaker 1: I still think that's the worst job on the planets.
- 21:59Speaker 2: But I think if it's going to go to anyone
- 22:01Speaker 2: going to die is good. Yeah, because she knows them
- 22:05Speaker 2: in that environment for a long time. She was assistant
- 22:06Speaker 2: coach when I.
- 22:07Speaker 3: Was assistant coach when you were there, so Cya.
- 22:10Speaker 2: She's been at the club thirteen years as well.
- 22:15Speaker 3: I love die honey. She's funny and she's naughty, and
- 22:18Speaker 3: she's also very naughty. Yes, So what she like as
- 22:22Speaker 3: a coach? Do you think she'd be different to Simone?
- 22:25Speaker 3: The same as Simone? Is it continuous? Like what do
- 22:28Speaker 3: you assess?
- 22:29Speaker 2: I don't know. I think it's always difficult to determine
- 22:32Speaker 2: what they're going to be like because they haven't done
- 22:34Speaker 2: you don't see them in that capacity. So certainly she
- 22:37Speaker 2: would put her two bobs worth in and take certain
- 22:39Speaker 2: parts of training. Obviously no dramas there, but it's a
- 22:42Speaker 2: big step up isn't it to go from supporting someone
- 22:45Speaker 2: to them running the show. But as I said, like,
- 22:46Speaker 2: I think she knows the players so well, she knows
- 22:49Speaker 2: the environment so well, Netball Victoria, all the people that
- 22:52Speaker 2: she's going to be dealing with. So I think she's
- 22:54Speaker 2: the best person for the job. And yeah, a lot
- 22:57Speaker 2: of pressure on it.
- 22:58Speaker 1: She can certainly take a lot of it for as
- 23:01Speaker 1: that they've had in twenty twenty five, correct, and.
- 23:04Speaker 3: I like them by the Giants and Vixen's have promoted
- 23:07Speaker 3: their assistant coach, right that you would think of the
- 23:09Speaker 3: good succession planning, right, you do your time as the
- 23:12Speaker 3: assistant coach and then you step up. But for Mavericks,
- 23:16Speaker 3: Nick Richardson didn't step into that head coach role, so
- 23:21Speaker 3: she said, the will I don't know, But so they
- 23:23Speaker 3: are the one team that's left without a head coach.
- 23:27Speaker 3: So I guess all lies on them now to see
- 23:29Speaker 3: what they do. They've been really Masie.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Slaw will say that as soon as we stop recording
- 23:34Speaker 1: this podcast today the first of September, that they will
- 23:36Speaker 1: announce the Mavericks head coach, you know, absolutely as soon
- 23:40Speaker 1: as we go off here. So, which is part of
- 23:43Speaker 1: the reason that we were not speculating too much about
- 23:46Speaker 1: what was going on during the signings period because it's
- 23:48Speaker 1: like it was just so quickly out of date. But
- 23:51Speaker 1: I think it would be very interesting now that we've
- 23:53Speaker 1: got the teams finalized to sort of talk about, you know,
- 23:57Speaker 1: who won the signing season.
- 24:01Speaker 2: I don't know. I reckon there was some. I think
- 24:03Speaker 2: there's two things, right. There's been some teams that have
- 24:06Speaker 2: had great signings, no question, But for me, which signings
- 24:12Speaker 2: combine best with the rest of the team would be
- 24:16Speaker 2: the ones that have won the signing period. To me, like,
- 24:18Speaker 2: if you talk about who wins the signing period, you
- 24:20Speaker 2: go Queensland because they've picked up three silver Ferns.
- 24:24Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 24:26Speaker 2: You could also say the MAVs. But then if you
- 24:28Speaker 2: look at the MAVs, they've combined some big names like
- 24:33Speaker 2: your bacheldor your Henschliff with some great you know, Jamie
- 24:37Speaker 2: Lee Price, but also Pallavi and Grenvold. They were in
- 24:41Speaker 2: the system, they weren't in the ten, so they've brought
- 24:43Speaker 2: those girls in. And I reckon there's some real great
- 24:46Speaker 2: combinations of experience and youth, but also positional wise, what
- 24:50Speaker 2: they've done there they've only got four from last year's ten.
- 24:53Speaker 1: So I was astonished to realize that because it's when
- 24:57Speaker 1: I looked at the Firebirds, I thought, oh man, this
- 25:00Speaker 1: is a whole new team, and how will the membership
- 25:03Speaker 1: base connect with them? But actually that got seven out
- 25:06Speaker 1: of ten and the MAVs have only got four. But
- 25:08Speaker 1: then it sort of begs the question do people follow
- 25:11Speaker 1: the team or do people follow the players? So I
- 25:14Speaker 1: think it's just it's an interesting one. I will be
- 25:17Speaker 1: really interested to see how fans connect with the Firebirds,
- 25:23Speaker 1: you know, whether this is and I don't know how
- 25:24Speaker 1: we're going to bloody measure it or whatever. I don't
- 25:26Speaker 1: know what, but you know, it strikes me that a
- 25:29Speaker 1: lot of the players who are coming into the MAVs,
- 25:32Speaker 1: that Super Netball fans will already be very familiar with,
- 25:35Speaker 1: so Jamie Lee Price, Tara Hingecliffe, Riley batchldor it's like
- 25:40Speaker 1: they're new to my team, but I know them, Whereas
- 25:43Speaker 1: I think there'll probably be a lot of Firebirds fans
- 25:46Speaker 1: who don't know the Silver Ferns as well, and I'm
- 25:49Speaker 1: not sure, you know, will they feel that connection. You know,
- 25:52Speaker 1: we've still got the rump of you know, Ruby, Bakweldor
- 25:55Speaker 1: and Sheer Gardner, Dunkley, you know, Emily Moore. It's like,
- 26:00Speaker 1: so there is there is a lot that they will
- 26:02Speaker 1: already have emotional attachments too, But I just yeah, it's
- 26:07Speaker 1: it's interesting and I don't know how you measure it,
- 26:09Speaker 1: but certainly for me as a Swift's member and also
- 26:13Speaker 1: a Giant's member now knowing I feel more comfortable going
- 26:16Speaker 1: into next year. But there's also part of me with
- 26:18Speaker 1: Swifts going, oh, I wish we had some more big, new, sexy,
- 26:22Speaker 1: exciting changes, but then I don't want that. I like
- 26:25Speaker 1: the familiarity of it.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:26Speaker 2: Oh, I mean you've got to be happy though, having
- 26:28Speaker 2: Muddy Proud back your leadership, particularly a light of Page
- 26:31Speaker 2: Haddeley's announcement recently that she's pregnant. I know she wants
- 26:34Speaker 2: to be back for the start of the season, so
- 26:36Speaker 2: they've kept her in there. But I mean, haven't we
- 26:38Speaker 2: all made those grand statements, you know, before you have we.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Have a shower for like six months after that, you.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Mall these grand statements like I'll be back playing and
- 26:50Speaker 2: I'll be fine, and.
- 26:51Speaker 1: It's mathematically possible that Page could you know, toutch out
- 26:54Speaker 1: a baby and then get back on court too. But
- 26:56Speaker 1: I'm not going to hold my breath for it, and
- 26:58Speaker 1: nor do I think that there should be any pressure
- 27:00Speaker 1: on that.
- 27:00Speaker 2: Correct. Yeah, but I reckon if you talk about signings,
- 27:03Speaker 2: Lightning for me have got a good.
- 27:06Speaker 3: Route?
- 27:07Speaker 2: Can I say that? Probably well rounded side? And I
- 27:10Speaker 2: think they've recruited the gaps they needed really well. Like
- 27:14Speaker 2: if you think of Danelle Wallam with Gabby Sinclair in
- 27:17Speaker 2: the circle whe with Kara Conan, Wow, such a good
- 27:21Speaker 2: mix up and then Karen Berger another silver Fern to
- 27:24Speaker 2: mix in there defensively with your Courtney Bruce and yash
- 27:27Speaker 2: Ev and like how good. So there's I reckon the
- 27:30Speaker 2: season is going to be spectacular because the teams have,
- 27:34Speaker 2: in my opinion, even out a lot more. Do you
- 27:36Speaker 2: think in terms of skill?
- 27:37Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 27:38Speaker 2: I reckon.
- 27:39Speaker 3: The interesting thing is so I think Vixent's won the
- 27:41Speaker 3: signing period because keeping it, keeping the team right that
- 27:45Speaker 3: won the Grand Final, And like when you look at
- 27:48Speaker 3: teams when they have changes, I think it always takes
- 27:51Speaker 3: a season or two bed everybody in and you need
- 27:54Speaker 3: to play like super netball is like no other netball
- 27:58Speaker 3: competition and the thing that is really different from state
- 28:02Speaker 3: league or anything else you play to super netbrot is
- 28:05Speaker 3: the speed and you don't have a lot of time
- 28:08Speaker 3: in the season. It's only fourteen weeks long, so you
- 28:10Speaker 3: don't have time to make mistakes and work things out.
- 28:14Speaker 3: You've almost got to do it season to season, and so.
- 28:17Speaker 1: No team girls cut either.
- 28:19Speaker 3: No team girls cut right there because of the earliest start,
- 28:22Speaker 3: that sort of has been squeezed out. So there's no
- 28:26Speaker 3: time to bed unless you're going to do it like
- 28:28Speaker 3: you can do it through your practice matches, but your
- 28:30Speaker 3: practice matches aren't super netball, right. So for Vixen's they've
- 28:34Speaker 3: managed to keep that whole team together, which is unbelievable
- 28:37Speaker 3: because and we see it more in other sports, but
- 28:40Speaker 3: you see it occasionally in our sport that a team
- 28:42Speaker 3: wins a grand final and suddenly everyone's like, oh, I
- 28:45Speaker 3: want a piece of that player. I want that player,
- 28:47Speaker 3: I want that player. So I think them keeping it
- 28:49Speaker 3: together is amazing. And having animatics come back in, yes, totally.
- 28:53Speaker 2: But can I add to that too Aussie players, so
- 28:56Speaker 2: you're not worrying about players that are internationally in their
- 29:00Speaker 2: own countries finishing international series and they delayed coming over,
- 29:05Speaker 2: which I think we saw with the Firebirds too, Chollock
- 29:07Speaker 2: I got in town like three weeks before the TGC
- 29:11Speaker 2: and stuff like that, which always makes it hard, doesn't it.
- 29:13Speaker 2: So it's spot on Liz.
- 29:15Speaker 3: Yeah. So and then I think Lightning are really interesting
- 29:18Speaker 3: because they had that big recruitment drive a couple of
- 29:21Speaker 3: years ago and they still haven't fined. But this year
- 29:24Speaker 3: might be the year they fire just adding a couple
- 29:27Speaker 3: of players, but the players who they've added already know
- 29:30Speaker 3: the Australian style of play. They're really familiar. You know,
- 29:33Speaker 3: Danelle Wallam has familiarity with Liz Watson and with Cara
- 29:36Speaker 3: Cone and yes, they sort of all know each other.
- 29:39Speaker 3: So and the Swifts were a bit the same and
- 29:42Speaker 3: it was interesting just watching the socials at the end
- 29:45Speaker 3: the signing period. People were a little bit disappointed that
- 29:47Speaker 3: Swift didn't add a big name to the team, but
- 29:50Speaker 3: they did that last year, right, and they're like Graceweckey
- 29:54Speaker 3: has had the year in and we saw that she
- 29:56Speaker 3: started off like a house on fire. And then other
- 29:58Speaker 3: teams did their work and they they worked out what
- 30:01Speaker 3: they had to do. I think keeping that rump of
- 30:04Speaker 3: the team together is really important for them and then
- 30:08Speaker 3: like as you go through them all you can see
- 30:10Speaker 3: what people have picked up. I think you're right, Catherine
- 30:12Speaker 3: about MAVs. I think they'll be really exciting next year.
- 30:15Speaker 3: I think having you know the players that they've picked up,
- 30:18Speaker 3: they've been really smart about them. And you know, Tara
- 30:22Speaker 3: Hinchliff comes down, she's already got that combination with Kim
- 30:26Speaker 3: Brown from the years at fire Birds together, So you're
- 30:30Speaker 3: sort of got to look at combinations rather than who's
- 30:32Speaker 3: got the big names. I think the interesting one will
- 30:34Speaker 3: be the Firebirds because they've picked up these overseas players,
- 30:38Speaker 3: these three key wing imports who they got Selby, rick
- 30:40Speaker 3: At Gordon and Jackson, and they're really big signings. And
- 30:45Speaker 3: the key for them will be how quickly they settle
- 30:47Speaker 3: into the speed and the intensity of super netball. Now
- 30:51Speaker 3: they're all internationals, right, so they've all got plenty of
- 30:53Speaker 3: experience of that, so they might do it really quickly.
- 30:56Speaker 3: But that will be to me the really interesting thing.
- 30:59Speaker 3: You know, do you, and this is what administrators all
- 31:01Speaker 3: over the country are weighing up. Do you sit with
- 31:04Speaker 3: the team that you've got and you try and get
- 31:07Speaker 3: more out of what you have, or do you sign
- 31:10Speaker 3: some players from overseas who are available in the hope
- 31:13Speaker 3: that that takes it to the next level too. And
- 31:14Speaker 3: there's no right or wrong. You know, we might get
- 31:16Speaker 3: at the end of the year. We might go, my god,
- 31:18Speaker 3: didn't five Birds win the signing season because they've picked
- 31:20Speaker 3: up those athletes and they're you know, they've gone gang
- 31:23Speaker 3: buses or you know, or we might go well Thunderbirds
- 31:27Speaker 3: actually one. You don't know to the end of the year.
- 31:28Speaker 3: But based on just the knowledge that I have from
- 31:31Speaker 3: the outside looking in, I think the more you stay
- 31:34Speaker 3: with the players that you have over the years and
- 31:36Speaker 3: bill gradually, the more you're likely to do well in
- 31:39Speaker 3: a current season.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Yeah, it's exciting for Fever though.
- 31:44Speaker 1: It's well for Fever to get session right. Glasgow back, yeah.
- 31:48Speaker 2: Big time. And that was the one blatantly obvious part
- 31:52Speaker 2: of the Grand Final for me that they struggled was
- 31:54Speaker 2: not having a goal attack that could stand up in
- 31:57Speaker 2: those moments and deliver the long shots and all of
- 31:59Speaker 2: the above, and Glasgow Paul will do that amazing.
- 32:06Speaker 1: So I mentioned last week, I am a little bit
- 32:08Speaker 1: worried about the departure of Sophie Fawn's because I do
- 32:11Speaker 1: think that so Helen's the only one who can really
- 32:14Speaker 1: reliably shoot super shots and they shut her down like
- 32:17Speaker 1: the Vixen shut her down very effectively. So yeah, I mean,
- 32:21Speaker 1: I would like to have seen Sophie used more in
- 32:24Speaker 1: the super shot period during the season. But maybe Grace
- 32:27Speaker 1: is just working on her supershots too, I would imagine
- 32:30Speaker 1: she is. Now that's my good coaching advice there.
- 32:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm sure Brian is taking notes. And the other
- 32:37Speaker 3: team we haven't mentioned at Giants and I think they're
- 32:39Speaker 3: pickups again. They've gone their three big pickups have been
- 32:44Speaker 3: from Silver Ferns players and given how well just bringing
- 32:48Speaker 3: in case In Corporal was this year, that was a
- 32:50Speaker 3: really good moment for them to bring the young players
- 32:53Speaker 3: through to be really interesting to see what a player
- 32:55Speaker 3: like Jane Watson does to their back line. And I
- 32:58Speaker 3: mean I'm really actually looking for just seeing Matisse, leather
- 33:01Speaker 3: Barrow and Sophie Dwyer sort of run out of season together.
- 33:04Speaker 3: That Joe Harten's retired, I think that's really exciting for
- 33:07Speaker 3: Australian Netbull.
- 33:08Speaker 1: But they've also got Lucy Austin, so who do they
- 33:11Speaker 1: start with there? Like they have an embarrassment of riches
- 33:14Speaker 1: in the shooting circle.
- 33:15Speaker 2: I think and feel like for Matisa it's going to
- 33:17Speaker 2: be another season of maybe sitting on the pine. But
- 33:20Speaker 2: the good thing with the three of them is they
- 33:21Speaker 2: are very interchangeable. Lucy Austin probably not going to play
- 33:24Speaker 2: goal attack, but you can see the other two doing
- 33:27Speaker 2: that and going back into shooter if they need to,
- 33:30Speaker 2: So they can go a number of ways. But how
- 33:32Speaker 2: Whitney Sooners too, silver firm got a great pick up
- 33:34Speaker 2: in the mid court for them. If you think about Hope,
- 33:36Speaker 2: White Sliger Sooner, they're all very similar, very punchy through
- 33:42Speaker 2: that middle. That'll be really exciting.
- 33:44Speaker 3: Yep, sorry I said. I think I've said three Silver fans.
- 33:46Speaker 3: We've got the two Silver Fans and jod Am Woard,
- 33:48Speaker 3: don't they Yep? Yeah?
- 33:50Speaker 1: What's do And is she looking likely to be able
- 33:53Speaker 1: to come back from this injury?
- 33:55Speaker 2: I would think so because it was midway through the season. Oh,
- 33:59Speaker 2: I don't know, they're talking.
- 34:02Speaker 3: Donald Yeah, so either way, Like, I think you're right, Cats,
- 34:06Speaker 3: I think, you know, looking across the teams, I think
- 34:08Speaker 3: the whole competition is evened up, which is great.
- 34:11Speaker 2: Okay, here we go. Who's in your Grand who's in
- 34:13Speaker 2: your top four guys based on signings? Put it out
- 34:16Speaker 2: there now. I'm going definitely Lightning Fever Swifts will be
- 34:21Speaker 2: better for it, isn't it?
- 34:28Speaker 1: It is very tough yep.
- 34:30Speaker 2: Anyway, there you go. Have to think about that, Dribblers.
- 34:32Speaker 2: Let us know. The draw though, is so exciting that
- 34:36Speaker 2: that's out, because it gives us a chance now to
- 34:38Speaker 2: just get pumped about the season already. But the Grand
- 34:41Speaker 2: Final remages until round seven.
- 34:44Speaker 1: I love that the drawer is out this early as
- 34:46Speaker 1: I can plan things. But looks like the Grand Final
- 34:49Speaker 1: is going to be during school holidays, which is good
- 34:52Speaker 1: and bad. But so I just want to know where
- 34:54Speaker 1: to plan my family holiday. Don't know where we're going
- 34:58Speaker 1: for the Grand Final next year.
- 35:00Speaker 3: I'm to seve Aspen if the government in California akain,
- 35:03Speaker 3: because you know, surely we could just head off.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Well, it's winter. I did say to you that I
- 35:07Speaker 1: thought it could be nice if we could go to
- 35:09Speaker 1: Hamilton Island please of course, yes, Hamilton Greek Islands. Greece
- 35:13Speaker 1: is the word.
- 35:14Speaker 2: Yeah, that's on topic.
- 35:17Speaker 1: That's quite the carbon footprint for that event though, if
- 35:19Speaker 1: we go it is that's ridiculous. Catherine, let's go with
- 35:23Speaker 1: my idea of Hamilton Island. So so, Liz, what happens
- 35:26Speaker 1: now with with that? You know, I'm rapidly changing the
- 35:29Speaker 1: subject because I don't want to nominate who's going to
- 35:31Speaker 1: be in my top four at this stage because I
- 35:34Speaker 1: could bloody say anyone couldn't I it's going to be wrong.
- 35:36Speaker 1: So yes, So can you give us any type of
- 35:39Speaker 1: update as to what's happening with the grand final location
- 35:42Speaker 1: or when we might.
- 35:43Speaker 3: Know or I do note that you two both asked
- 35:47Speaker 3: me in the WhatsApp WhatsApp group, could I give you
- 35:50Speaker 3: a bit of a scoop so you can plan your holidays?
- 35:52Speaker 3: And it was Carolyn, and I came back and I
- 35:54Speaker 3: think I mentioned every capital city in Australia. You did.
- 35:57Speaker 1: It was so good, It was so good to think
- 35:59Speaker 1: I am tapped into the source of netball in Australia
- 36:03Speaker 1: and you mentioned five cities that it could possibly occur
- 36:08Speaker 1: in and you know they're the only five cities that
- 36:10Speaker 1: you would think that they might be. And so thank
- 36:12Speaker 1: you for that, I felt, really.
- 36:19Speaker 3: And the reason is, I don't know. So the reason
- 36:21Speaker 3: is there are ongoing discussions with just about every state
- 36:25Speaker 3: and territory government to see yeah, he's a.
- 36:30Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, everybody bring their bag of cash.
- 36:33Speaker 3: Yes, exactly right. So and it's not just like the cash.
- 36:37Speaker 3: Obviously the money is important, but it's also the commitment
- 36:41Speaker 3: of the government to the event. You know, you want
- 36:44Speaker 3: to you want the town, you want to feel like
- 36:46Speaker 3: the city is behind the event, that there's street dressing,
- 36:49Speaker 3: that you know, the Premier is going to be there,
- 36:51Speaker 3: that you know it's it's a big event. And so
- 36:54Speaker 3: you want the government of whoever it is that your
- 36:56Speaker 3: partner with to be really committed to make it more
- 37:00Speaker 3: than just a netball game. So you know, we saw
- 37:02Speaker 3: that in Melbourne. It was fantastic that the whole precinct
- 37:05Speaker 3: was all decked out and on fire, so that was great.
- 37:07Speaker 3: So yeah, it's exciting. I love the fact that I mean,
- 37:11Speaker 3: I know there was some sort of conjecture around this,
- 37:14Speaker 3: particularly from Fever fans, and I do understand that that
- 37:17Speaker 3: they had to travel, but I think the fact of
- 37:20Speaker 3: the matter is that you just get a much better
- 37:22Speaker 3: event when you can plan for it for a few
- 37:24Speaker 3: months or several months in the month. So I think
- 37:26Speaker 3: we're just going to keep on having great events, and
- 37:29Speaker 3: you know, the last four Grand finals have all been
- 37:31Speaker 3: sold out, So that says something, doesn't it.
- 37:34Speaker 2: Sure, it does.
- 37:35Speaker 1: And I will say, as someone who went along to
- 37:37Speaker 1: the game and paid for my ticket and was a
- 37:40Speaker 1: member of two clubs night, of which were represented in
- 37:43Speaker 1: the final, I had the best time Like this. You
- 37:46Speaker 1: don't have to It doesn't have to just be about
- 37:48Speaker 1: your team winning the Grand Final. It was just it
- 37:51Speaker 1: was so great to be there. It was such a
- 37:54Speaker 1: fun event and in many ways it's much nicer of
- 37:57Speaker 1: your team's not there. Frankly, going to that preliminary final
- 38:01Speaker 1: at Kudos Arena, that was just stressful and unpleasant.
- 38:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I hear speaking of stressful and unpleasant. I know
- 38:08Speaker 2: this isn't a visual medium, but there is something sitting
- 38:11Speaker 2: in front of us. Yeah, that I'm a little disturbed by,
- 38:15Speaker 2: but very intrigued.
- 38:16Speaker 1: Well, I'm very worried about something that's going on in
- 38:20Speaker 1: the Smith's Chips organization. I think Twisties are having some
- 38:25Speaker 1: type of identity crisis. Now. My lovely neighbor, who was
- 38:29Speaker 1: a dribbler, shoved a packet of these in. We have
- 38:32Speaker 1: some beautiful plum blossoms out the front of the house,
- 38:35Speaker 1: and it's a riot of pink, and then he has
- 38:39Speaker 1: shoved here a packet of Twisti's the zuper duper fairy
- 38:44Speaker 1: floss flavor Twisty. Now you look at Ellis's, I know
- 38:49Speaker 1: you will remember that six months ago Twisties had a
- 38:53Speaker 1: sour blueberry flavor.
- 38:55Speaker 2: Did we try that?
- 38:56Speaker 1: No? I put my dissatisfaction on social media about it.
- 39:01Speaker 1: But twists are seventy five years old this year. I
- 39:03Speaker 1: think they should know better than this. But cath Wegg
- 39:06Speaker 1: and I'm into it.
- 39:07Speaker 2: I'm until I'm very key.
- 39:08Speaker 1: You know, in Europe twisties are called bonsis, which I love.
- 39:13Speaker 2: Like out a Happy Days. Are you jealous?
- 39:15Speaker 3: No? Oh fuck, that's revolt. Wait on, all I can
- 39:23Speaker 3: think about is what your poo's going to be like?
- 39:24Speaker 3: If you.
- 39:26Speaker 1: I don't mind it.
- 39:28Speaker 2: The first bet gets you in places that you're not expecting.
- 39:31Speaker 2: It's quite sour. I know, I quite like those.
- 39:35Speaker 1: I will need this whole one large twisty.
- 39:38Speaker 2: Though, because you're expecting savory right?
- 39:42Speaker 3: No?
- 39:42Speaker 2: This?
- 39:43Speaker 3: Are they sweet?
- 39:44Speaker 2: No? It's not bad. I wouldn't buy them. Well that's discussed, Okay,
- 39:47Speaker 2: I'm done.
- 39:47Speaker 1: Oh God, caught diabetes.
- 39:49Speaker 2: You know how it gets you at the back.
- 39:51Speaker 1: Oh, I just want to cheat. What is the.
- 39:56Speaker 3: Oh, is there anything in all that used to be
- 39:59Speaker 3: food that's in that? Or is it all chemical?
- 40:01Speaker 1: It's only twelve percent sugar. I would have thought it
- 40:04Speaker 1: was forty five percent sugar. So ingredients cereals, corn and rice,
- 40:10Speaker 1: canola oil, sugar, salt, food acid, citric acid, natural color, beet,
- 40:15Speaker 1: red maltodextrin, natural flavors, antioxidant, rosemary, extra shit.
- 40:23Speaker 3: My god.
- 40:25Speaker 1: Anyway, So no, cannot recommend that, but do appreciate my neighbor.
- 40:31Speaker 1: So Pete got this, and there's a best before date
- 40:33Speaker 1: up the top, and Pete wrote best before never, because
- 40:36Speaker 1: I would tend to agree that this is not something
- 40:39Speaker 1: that and I like to I like to try everything
- 40:42Speaker 1: that I regret not eating the Cheetos KFC combo burger
- 40:46Speaker 1: when I was in Hawaii, so you know, have the
- 40:49Speaker 1: experiences when you're traveling. This has a three star health rating,
- 40:53Speaker 1: which is also something that I'm a little bit skeptical of.
- 40:55Speaker 2: SKA. Right, I'm going to bring you some fancy other two.
- 40:58Speaker 1: So if any dribblers work in the Smith's organization, tell
- 41:01Speaker 1: us what's going on with twisties, because I'm very worried
- 41:05Speaker 1: we've loved you cheese twisties and chicken twisties and.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Or do you give the chicken a decent run? Though?
- 41:11Speaker 2: Cheese is the winner, right Jesus, We're the winner.
- 41:14Speaker 1: But I think chicken is a very valid occasional substitute.
- 41:19Speaker 1: I can't find it anymore.
- 41:20Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I can't.
- 41:21Speaker 3: Do you like chicken chips?
- 41:23Speaker 1: Yes, again, as an occasional. Don't look, it's not Liz.
- 41:27Speaker 3: That's how I look that to my face, that's my face.
- 41:30Speaker 1: Well, maybe maybe use that face when you're asking your
- 41:34Speaker 1: family to nominate spirit animals for you. Okay, my four, Liz,
- 41:39Speaker 1: what are your four teams for the finals? Cas? We
- 41:42Speaker 1: got you Lightning Fever Swifts.
- 41:44Speaker 2: I think I said Mads, but then I was reminded
- 41:47Speaker 2: about the visits. I don't know. Oh god, I don't
- 41:52Speaker 2: want to. It's too hard.
- 41:53Speaker 3: As you know. I can't at the moment either that.
- 41:57Speaker 2: It's what tea birds.
- 42:03Speaker 1: I'm going to go, Oh look, it might be the
- 42:06Speaker 1: same four for me. I don't know.
- 42:08Speaker 2: But this is going to be great, though, isn't it?
- 42:10Speaker 2: Because I don't think we're going to see a season
- 42:12Speaker 2: like we have with the Sweets undefeated in the first round.
- 42:14Speaker 2: That's not going to happen with anyone.
- 42:16Speaker 1: Surely I wouldn't have thought, So bring it on, Bring
- 42:20Speaker 1: it on. Yeah, I think it's going to be an
- 42:21Speaker 1: absolutely great season. So we're just going to abandon this
- 42:24Speaker 1: whole notion of us trying to pick the top four.
- 42:27Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, because there's the top four.
- 42:29Speaker 1: Well, the beauty of it is no one can be
- 42:30Speaker 1: cursed by winning the Team Girls Cup. Next year, the
- 42:34Speaker 1: Team Girls Cup isn't occurring because the season has to
- 42:36Speaker 1: start earlier because of the Commonwealth Game. So it's all.
- 42:40Speaker 1: I love it. I love it all. I love the
- 42:42Speaker 1: draw being out early, I love the season starting earlier.
- 42:45Speaker 1: I love being able to plan my life better. So
- 42:49Speaker 1: it's good. It's a shame to not have a Team
- 42:51Speaker 1: Girls Cup, but I think that we get the Commonwealth
- 42:53Speaker 1: Games instead, so that's exciting.
- 42:55Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll take that. We'll take a gold medal instead.
- 42:57Speaker 2: Easy done.
- 42:58Speaker 1: Well, well, I need to have you, yes, words of wisdom,
- 43:01Speaker 1: the words of wisdom from the foolish words.
- 43:05Speaker 3: Hang on before you do that, can I just ask
- 43:07Speaker 3: a question? I saw that we've had a question on
- 43:09Speaker 3: our socials about off season activities for kids.
- 43:13Speaker 2: You haven't struggled to find those.
- 43:15Speaker 3: No. I well, the first answer there is no off season.
- 43:19Speaker 3: But I thought it was interesting and we're running out
- 43:22Speaker 3: of times. Might I think we should talk about that
- 43:24Speaker 3: next week? There you go, that's a it's called a teaser.
- 43:26Speaker 3: That's what in the bees you call a teaser. I'm
- 43:29Speaker 3: teasing to next week's show.
- 43:31Speaker 2: Well done. You have to remember to talk about it
- 43:33Speaker 2: next week because we will forget. Yes, write that down someone.
- 43:36Speaker 1: So, just with reference to the Zooper Duper fairy Floss
- 43:41Speaker 1: favor twistis, I've gone to foolish words, the most stupid
- 43:44Speaker 1: words ever spoken. A book I found in my office
- 43:47Speaker 1: Samuel Goldwyn, who was of course from Metro Goldwyn Mayor
- 43:50Speaker 1: the movie Jim Yep. He said, go see that turkey
- 43:54Speaker 1: for yourself and see for yourself why you shouldn't see it.
- 43:58Speaker 1: So I would like to paraphray that and say, try
- 44:01Speaker 1: these terrible twisties yourself, and see for yourself why you
- 44:05Speaker 1: should not be trying the terrible twisties. Beautiful.
- 44:09Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, all.
- 44:11Speaker 1: Right, Well, I think that's all we've got time for now.
- 44:15Speaker 1: So Liz has got a lot of jobs this week.
- 44:17Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, let's put them on the list.
- 44:19Speaker 1: So Spirit Animal.
- 44:21Speaker 3: God, okay, I'm writing it down. I'm writing this down.
- 44:23Speaker 1: Because you are the donkey until you get an alternative
- 44:26Speaker 1: spirit animal. I think I'm the caangarrass, the cass.
- 44:30Speaker 2: Oh, the caan garrass. Love it? The meat train that caangaras.
- 44:34Speaker 1: Yeah, grand final, finalize that this week for us and
- 44:37Speaker 1: then let us know that'll be handy again. Hamilton Island
- 44:40Speaker 1: would be my nomination. We have any other jobs for
- 44:42Speaker 1: Liz that'll do.
- 44:44Speaker 2: I've always imagine there's a few on there already.
- 44:47Speaker 3: Oh look, I have to coach my team in the semifinals.
- 44:50Speaker 1: Oh yeah, very nice.
- 44:51Speaker 2: So when when is that? Is it a Saturday?
- 44:53Speaker 3: Saturday? Yep? So you know. I did have a quick
- 44:56Speaker 3: look through the stats. At the end of the regular season.
- 44:59Speaker 3: We are the best defense team by a long shot.
- 45:01Speaker 2: Oh is anyone surprised by that?
- 45:03Speaker 3: No? Can we shoot? Not really?
- 45:05Speaker 2: No, of course you can't.
- 45:06Speaker 3: We can shoot for a special Well, I know you
- 45:09Speaker 3: do need to come up and do some work with I.
- 45:10Speaker 2: Know, twist my arm just before and then I can
- 45:15Speaker 2: drink some gin and watch them perform and nail it.
- 45:18Speaker 2: Have you beaten this team before that you're playing in
- 45:21Speaker 2: the semi Yes?
- 45:23Speaker 3: Like both Yes, we have, yes, but finals no, nothing's
- 45:28Speaker 3: ever in the bad castroom. Finals are a different kettle
- 45:31Speaker 3: of fish. So so and it's sudden deck. We've got
- 45:35Speaker 3: to win. It's not like you don't get the second
- 45:38Speaker 3: bite of the cherry. Yeah, so it's one v.
- 45:41Speaker 1: And just to reminder that our maybe we just need
- 45:44Speaker 1: to go to the pub. T shirts are now on
- 45:46Speaker 1: sale from the first to the fifteenth of September via
- 45:49Speaker 1: the No Dribble dot com dot au website. Go to
- 45:52Speaker 1: No Dribble Merchant and remember, five dollars from the sale
- 45:56Speaker 1: of every item in that range goes to the Confident
- 45:59Speaker 1: Girls Foundation to help marginalize girls through netball. So a
- 46:04Speaker 1: great cause there, So get around that. They will go
- 46:08Speaker 1: off sale at midnight on the fifteenth of September, probably
- 46:13Speaker 1: never to return. So this is.
- 46:16Speaker 2: The next coach there's something completely.
- 46:18Speaker 1: Yea this and again thanks to Simone for letting us
- 46:22Speaker 1: use her wisdom here. This is called our coaching Wisdom range.
- 46:26Speaker 1: And yes, so get around there. I have seen a
- 46:28Speaker 1: few orders come in for seven so I'm assuming that's
- 46:32Speaker 1: some social teams getting twitch curent so they're training top's there,
- 46:36Speaker 1: so so get around that. Please invite your friends to
- 46:39Speaker 1: enjoy this podcast. Please make sure that whatever you are
- 46:42Speaker 1: listening on, you are subscribing give us a five star review.
- 46:46Speaker 1: If you don't want to give us a five star review,
- 46:48Speaker 1: don't bother. That's fine, Go about your busy day. No, well,
- 46:53Speaker 1: I was going to say I didn't mean that, but
- 46:54Speaker 1: of course I actually do mean that, so but yeah,
- 46:57Speaker 1: please please share this podcast and invite your friends to
- 47:00Speaker 1: join the Facebook group. And ye, we'll be back next
- 47:03Speaker 1: week to talk about netball and netball adjacent things.
- 47:09Speaker 2: What netple are we talking about next week?
- 47:11Speaker 1: Oh, there's Diamonds coming up, I believe. Have people bought
- 47:14Speaker 1: their tickets?
- 47:14Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 47:14Speaker 2: And Liz Ellis's semifinal.
