- 0:08On October 1, 1936, the Chicago White Sox faced the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field for
- 0:14the annual Chicago City Series exhibition game. This event marked another chapter in
- 0:18the long-standing Cubs-White Sox rivalry, which had defined the city's baseball landscape
- 0:23for decades. The Cubs entered the series after finishing fourth in the National League while
- 0:27the White Sox, despite being a mid-tier team in the American League, had the upper hand
- 0:33in these intra-city showdowns. The White Sox were managed by Jimmy Dykes and the Cubs
- 0:38by Charlie Grimm. This rivalry had been one of baseball's most consistent postseason matchups
- 0:43since the early 1900s, with the teams competing in the city series almost every year that
- 0:48neither club was in the World Series. Although the Cubs had secured National League pennants
- 0:53in 1929, 1932, and 1935, their success did not translate into city bragging rights as
- 1:00the White Sox continued to dominate these matchups. This audio recording is from the
- 1:04radio broadcast featuring announcers Fred Palmer, Hal Totten, and George Watson.
- 1:32I highly recommend watching this program of these showσ
- 1:59But eating ladies and gentlemen, they've won.
- 2:02You know that contest, we can't tell them yet who's the winner because we don't know yet.
- 2:07There's four players so close to the top that they're having to go back and add every bit of a vote that's come in again.
- 2:15In other words, right from the start they're re-adding all the votes to make sure that one of these four players that are within 100 votes of each other on the unofficial standing is actually the winner.
- 2:26And that's to the who is going to win the other prizes, the prizes for those writing in.
- 2:31Well, we still hope to have it within a week, but I don't know.
- 2:35Those thousands and thousands of letters are bearing a lot of reading and a couple of the judges right now are out of town,
- 2:41so we've got to get them back in town so we can bear down on those.
- 2:44If the people of these stations, we will too, I hope.
- 2:48Anyway, I'm trying to because I sort of ain't just no one else.
- 2:51That's so high up.
- 2:52Yeah, I want to know who's getting all these automobiles and fur coats and...
- 2:55Radios, I mean, you and I can't get them, but nobody can.
- 2:59At least we can know who got them, maybe.
- 3:01Yeah, right.
- 3:02And we have the fun of presenting them.
- 3:04Well, the World Series opening game and some and gone, hasn't it?
- 3:09And the team went just about the way most people figured it would.
- 3:13A fellow named Carl Hubbell was just about two-tops for the boys.
- 3:18And he won that game six to one, being the Yankees in that fashion, holding the seven hits.
- 3:23Striking out eight of them by cracky and walking only one.
- 3:27In other words, the Yankees saw a great stop-fall with great stuff and control.
- 3:33They've seen a lot of great stop-falls in their league with good stuff.
- 3:37Some of them have got so much control.
- 3:40Of course, the veterans have like lefty-growl when he's right,
- 3:44mineral whitey-o, but the majority of them have them to control and the stuff that Hubbell had.
- 3:50And he showed it time and time again.
- 3:53Just from hearsay and what we know of the series, the game, we know several things that happened.
- 3:58The four of what was said before the series really got underway.
- 4:02The first head of the game went to Bill Terry.
- 4:05That was one of Bill Terry's two hits.
- 4:08Terry showed that he's the great money player he always was.
- 4:11However, another giant player who figured on being a great money player lived up to his reputation.
- 4:17That was Mella, the little rascal who plays right field.
- 4:20And it's one of the greatest young ball players in the major league than now already a veteran.
- 4:27But a couple of other boys bounced up with base hits.
- 4:31Eight of the nine hits made by the giant were made by four players.
- 4:37One of them was little Dick Bartell.
- 4:39You know Bartell is one of these fiery little players who may be very hot but very cold.
- 4:43He might be very dangerous and bad or very docile.
- 4:46Today he was very, very tough.
- 4:48Matter of fact, it was his home run that tied up the game after Paul had started rather a...
- 4:56...selkirk that put the Yankees ahead with a home run early in the game.
- 5:00And the other two hits you get.
- 5:03Uh-huh.
- 5:04Paul level himself.
- 5:05Boy, he's always been tough off at that dish.
- 5:07But when he was out there with that winning spirit, he was up with two more base hits.
- 5:12You know, that sort of gives an idea of what those giants have.
- 5:17Now, tomorrow may be a different thing.
- 5:19Freddy Fitzsimmons is going to pitch.
- 5:21Charlie Fitzgerald lefty Gomez.
- 5:23Gomez has been going erratically lately.
- 5:26He's pitched one good game.
- 5:28One good game at the end of a very erratic season is another question.
- 5:31The third inning again saw Hubble rise to the height.
- 5:34Selkirk opened the inning with a home run.
- 5:36That put the Yankees ahead.
- 5:38And after Hubble himself talked about roughing and close-editing pops to whitehead,
- 5:43we're open to margio's things.
- 5:45Well, there was one of those big Yankee innings in the making.
- 5:48Who was it, Matt?
- 5:50Lou Geary.
- 5:51What did he do?
- 5:52Hit a nice little boundary down to fellow named Carl Hubble and Hubble through about the first inning.
- 5:57I don't know.
- 5:58And Hubble was right in there all the time.
- 6:00More than a gunner was Hubble.
- 6:02It had started to rain.
- 6:03Fans didn't like it very much because he ball handling was bad.
- 6:07They were very proud.
- 6:08It was uncomfortable until they played the ball game in these conditions.
- 6:11So they went on.
- 6:12And the Dickey opened up looking at a fair strike.
- 6:15A total double collector was there he was.
- 6:17There was the real tough spot.
- 6:19They tried a double steal, figuring they were one run ahead.
- 6:22And that great little general back of the plate, who is to my mind one of the fellows
- 6:27that is completely not appreciated in baseball.
- 6:30A fellow who should have much more credit for what he's getting.
- 6:33Gussman Cusole put that ball down to Jackson and the fleet put it hard sliding and cutting
- 6:40and flashing and bike wielding.
- 6:43Hall was out.
- 6:45And then Delkirk, who had hit a home run early in the game, was struck out for the third out.
- 6:52Little Miller had bounced up in the sixth inning to hit a base hit, a two base hit in the back
- 6:58showing that he wasn't there and he doubled to left, showing that he had a good pitch ball.
- 7:02It was pitched outside to keep you from hitting it to right and into the fan.
- 7:06Ripple, the youngster, coolly stepped up there and laid down a sacrifice.
- 7:10If you think sacrificing against good pitching, such as Ruffing was showing and Ruffing did,
- 7:14they took part in the ball game.
- 7:16Do you think starting against that kind of pitching and under that strain of DZ,
- 7:20you're cool.
- 7:21So I was five, remember.
- 7:23And here was the proper trick.
- 7:26And so Ripple laid down the sacrifice and the same Gussman Cusole,
- 7:30the boy who bears down when it counts, single to left to drive in that run
- 7:35and puts the Cups ahead.
- 7:37So there, he drafted the Cups.
- 7:39He had the national in the team anyway.
- 7:41Seventh inning again was Hubble.
- 7:43After Powell, single to left, Larry turned around and struck off for the second time.
- 7:47Delkirk forced Powell and Terry, rather Terry Barkell, and Ruffing, banned.
- 7:53So there you had Mr. Hubble again.
- 7:55Giant Teddy, six runs, nine hits and one error, and the Yankees one run, seven hits, two errors.
- 8:00Batteries for the Giant Trouble and Mancucle, for the Yankees Ruffing, and six.
- 8:08The City Series game, clean the white dots, the Cups was called off on top of the very, very Islamic weather.
- 8:15It rained, it was cold, and just all together too bad.
- 8:19While that hurts the coffers of the ball clubs, I don't believe they're crying very much,
- 8:23because it adds the Sunday game to the player's pool.
- 8:27Players share in the first four games, and the games now are one game at Rikki Field tomorrow,
- 8:33games at Komiski Park on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and then back to Rikki Field.
- 8:39So the players now share in the Sunday game, which should come close to being at the Pasty House, weather permitting.
- 8:48The Brakes have started to play a part in the World Series.
- 8:55Brakes and Camperman are liable to play a big part in the City Series.
- 8:59I wonder if knowing these players intimately, having known them since most of them have been with the Chicago Gloves,
- 9:06and some of them before that, it wouldn't be sort of a good idea to go down these various line-ups,
- 9:10and picture the personalities of the men, whose personalities do play a big part in a short series,
- 9:18when everything depends on what's going to happen.
- 9:21Take Rip Rats, it's a white-stock lead-off man.
- 9:24There's a fellow who is much better than a 300-hitter.
- 9:27It's a fellow who may go through the first two or three times of bat in the ballgame, without getting on beat.
- 9:33And then all of a sudden, when the going gets tough, he comes up with that singular double-to-drive-in run,
- 9:38and he needs two runs this year.
- 9:40Or get on base to score runs, he scored 120 himself, makes a 207 hit.
- 9:45One of the two members of the white-stock was going over the 200-hit mark,
- 9:48half-way in the end, the other was 204.
- 9:51And you have a man who is dangerous right down to the last six.
- 9:55And a fellow who is very, very sure on a fly ball, although he has that trouble with ground ball.
- 10:00Larry Rolls with all of the youngsters who is just a little bit inclined to try too hard this year, his first year,
- 10:05and he might choke up in a clinch.
- 10:08On the other hand, if they let up for a minute, he's going to part of that ball and cause trouble.
- 10:12Mule Haft is a better.
- 10:14His record of only 46 runs batted in, 76 runs scored, and a batting average of 285 doesn't really tell what Mule can do.
- 10:22Because it's those tough runs that he drives in when the going gets tough, and that's the actual.
- 10:28Zeke Vanora is a big, happy-go-lucky guy who's rather hit than anything else in the world,
- 10:32and you can't get him down whether it's a city series, world series, or just a spring practice game.
- 10:38And with 138 runs already batted in this year, look out for Zeke under any circumstances.
- 10:44I don't believe I have to talk about Luke Gaffling and his temperament.
- 10:47A kid about the fact that he always is celebrating a sore arm or a sore ankle or something.
- 10:52That's in the clubhouse around the bench when he's talking about it.
- 10:55Out there in the field, he never quit.
- 10:57He's driven in 128 runs, scored 111, made 204 hits, let both leagues with an average of 388,
- 11:04and he's going to be funny tough.
- 11:06Hey, this is another fellow who drives in runs.
- 11:09It was a bat only 416 times this year and made 130 hits, but drove in 86 runs.
- 11:15That's what's tough.
- 11:16Jimmy Dykes is another fellow who is tough with men on bases,
- 11:19and Luke Zul is noted as a man to drive in tough runs.
- 11:22On the cup side, Golan can go on base, but unless he does, he's had a slightly bad year,
- 11:29why the cups don't post so well.
- 11:31Cat Ratt is a question.
- 11:32The last few games of the season, he went pretty well,
- 11:35but whether he can continue to do that in the short, the important series is a question.
- 11:39He didn't do it in the World Series.
- 11:40Billy Herman ended the season in a trippy slump, and it's more than due to come out of it,
- 11:44and if he's out of it, everybody better look out.
- 11:46I see the time has moved around again, so come in for a vision.
- 11:51Yes, and now just a word to all you folks who like to go out to the kitchen
- 11:55and raise the refrigerator for a bite to eat before going to bed.
- 11:58Most of us will be getting that urge a little later this evening, I know.
- 12:02Well, here's my tip.
- 12:04Remember to ask your go-to for Kellogg's corn flakes tomorrow.
- 12:08Enjoy them for breakfast, lunch or supper,
- 12:11but be sure that they're handy for a crisp and tasty snack at bedtime.
- 12:16Kellogg presents how tough his inside story on baseball.
- 12:20Each day at this time except Sunday.

- 13:17We leave our studios now as we take you to Wrigley Field
- 13:21for the first game in the city series between the Cubs and the Cubs.
- 13:28Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen.
- 13:29We're speaking here from Wrigley Field, the home of the Cubs in Chicago.
- 13:32We're going to bring you this afternoon the first game,
- 13:34which has supposedly the first game of the city series between the Chicago Cubs
- 13:38and the Chicago Right Cubs.
- 13:41We're going to start to turn the Cubs out onto the field,
- 13:43but before the Cubs take the field,
- 13:45we'd like to give you the lineup for the game to be played this afternoon.
- 13:48For the right side, for the first one to come to battle,
- 13:50throw the vests from the south side.
- 13:52The battery will be...
- 13:56Burn Kennedy on the mar and look to behind the bat, the battery.
- 14:00And the batting order, Rip Rackleith,
- 14:04Redfield, Barry Rosenfor,
- 14:07Vanderfield, Newhouse, Rightfield,
- 14:12Zeke Vanora, Third Base,
- 14:15Blue Caffling, First Cubs,
- 14:18Jackie Hayes, Second Base,
- 14:21Managé Jimi Dike, Third Base,
- 14:24Loop Two Catching and Burnham Kennedy pitching.
- 14:28There's a survival club.
- 14:30The battery, build the armament,
- 14:33get the hardness behind the bat,
- 14:35Burnham, Vanderfield,
- 14:37Joe Cabaretta, Third Base,
- 14:40Woody Herman, Second Base,
- 14:42Frank Demery, Rightfield,
- 14:45Stanley Hack, Third Base,
- 14:48Gabby Hartnett, Catching,
- 14:51Johnny Gil, Leftfield,
- 14:54Bill Jurgis, Shortstop and
- 14:56Bill Lee, the pitcher.
- 14:58The game is just about to start.
- 14:59The umpires are all going to their positions.
- 15:01And incidentally, we might remind you that the umpires saw this afternoon
- 15:04from the next morning.
- 15:05The umpires, Barr and Stewart,
- 15:07and all the American leagues are going and on.
- 15:10Today is right overcast and the wind is coming out of the
- 15:13northwest. Not a very strong wind,
- 15:15the very rugged wind.
- 15:17We will say that in the Grand Stamps,
- 15:20there are about 18,000 people.
- 15:23Just about 18,000 people.
- 15:25Now there at bat is Rip Racket.
- 15:27Rip Ball has been thrown right once.
- 15:29He swings and hits the second one,
- 15:31right down the right field line, and he is out.
- 15:34By a play at First Base,
- 15:36by Frank Demery taking the ball on the bat.
- 15:38Running over and cutting on First Base,
- 15:40retiring Rip Racket.
- 15:45And that brings Larry Rosenball to bat.
- 15:47Larry Rosenball is back.
- 15:50There's a wind up and a pitch.
- 15:52The first ball comes over.
- 15:54Ball's on.
- 15:55So the back is one ball on Larry Rosenball.
- 15:58There's a wind up.
- 16:00Big Bill Lee taking that blow wind up.
- 16:02And here's a pitch.
- 16:04Strike two, two strikes on Larry Rosenball.
- 16:06The second man at bat with one man out in the first
- 16:08and he's going to white shot.
- 16:10Now he's running up the ball out there on the mound.
- 16:12Big Bill Lee putting the pitch back on again.
- 16:14Here it is, that blow swinging wind up.
- 16:16And the pitch.
- 16:18Ball two.
- 16:20Ball two and strike one on Larry Rosenball.
- 16:22Two balls and one strike on Larry Rosenball.
- 16:24Watching for the time.
- 16:26Bill Lee gets his time.
- 16:28Here's the wind up, the cover and the pitch.
- 16:32And it is over the outside corner.
- 16:34Now it's left the outside corner.
- 16:36There's about an inch for ball three.
- 16:38So the count is three balls and one strike on Larry Rosenball.
- 16:40All of the white shots in the first half of the first inning
- 16:42of the first game of the city fair.
- 16:44A lot of firsts on Allen.
- 16:46Here is the pitch.
- 16:48And it is like two, two balls and three strikes.
- 16:51He's running the count out to the end.
- 16:54Here comes the big one.
- 16:56Watching for his time.
- 16:58Getting his time from Gaby Hartman.
- 17:00Here is the wind up and the pitch.
- 17:02And he is called out on strike.
- 17:04Called out on strike for Larry Rosenball.
- 17:06That makes two outs in the first inning for the white shots.
- 17:08And he was called out.
- 17:10He didn't even blink.
- 17:12He can't make any pitch unless you take that bad hold.
- 17:14And that brings Neal Hart to donkey to bat.
- 17:16Standing up there, left handed hitter.
- 17:18He's got the pitch.
- 17:20It looks good to get the ball out of the ballpark.
- 17:22He really caught a hold of it and he can.
- 17:24Neal Hart.
- 17:26And it is ball one.
- 17:28The first ball pitch, ball one from Neal Hart.
- 17:30Right fielder.
- 17:32How did you call this high shot?
- 17:34Here is the wind up and the next pitch.
- 17:36And it is ball two.
- 17:38Wide and low on the outside corner for Ball Two.
- 17:42Ball Two.
- 17:44So Neal Hart is at bat with two balls and no strikes.
- 17:46Two men out in the first half of the first half.
- 17:50They go winding up there again.
- 17:52And the pitch.
- 17:54And it is three balls and no strikes.
- 17:56Bigville needs to lock that control.
- 17:58Which is so foolish.
- 18:00Winding up again to make another pitch.
- 18:02See if we can't get it down the middle this time.
- 18:04And it is right one.
- 18:06So that's three balls and one strike.
- 18:08And Neal Hart.
- 18:10Neal waiting for a pair.
- 18:12All ready to crowd it over the fence.
- 18:14He hits the second one.
- 18:16Now the fourth stop, Luke Ehring.
- 18:18There he comes.
- 18:20And he hits from Bill Gurgis.
- 18:22That retired the side.
- 18:24Bill Gurgis.
- 18:26He'll feel capital letters first.
- 18:28Retiring the side with three outs.
- 18:30No runs.
- 18:32No hits.
- 18:34And no errors in the first half of the first inning for the White Sox.
- 18:40And now it seems we can't get into the start for the White Sox.
- 18:42White Sox coming to bat in the last half of the first inning.
- 18:44So they're coming to bat in the last half of the first inning.
- 18:46And they're on the mound now.
- 18:48Warming up here for in Kennedy.
- 18:50The pitcher for the White Sox.
- 18:52And behind the bat, Luke Stur.
- 18:54Luke Stur doing the catching for the White Sox today.
- 18:56The first man has got four of the cups in the last half of the first inning.
- 18:58Bring up Neal Oggy to land.
- 19:00Oggy to land.
- 19:02He'll hit right hand left.
- 19:04And against the right hand of pitching of Green Kennedy,
- 19:06we'll hit left hand.
- 19:08There goes the ball half the second play.
- 19:10So the fourth stop.
- 19:12Warming it around the infield and back to the pitcher,
- 19:14Green Kennedy.
- 19:16Green Kennedy is catching up the mound now.
- 19:18Getting a step for his particular side of pitching.
- 19:20And Oggy to land is in the
- 19:22batter's box
- 19:24to face Green Kennedy
- 19:26of the White Sox.
- 19:32There's his playing in the cuddle.
- 19:34Half the pitcher in the first ball.
- 19:36And it is high and wide for a ball one.
- 19:42Blinding up for the second pitch.
- 19:44Right down the alley for strike two.
- 19:46Strike one. Ball one and strike one.
- 20:10Second half of the first inning.
- 20:12Repiring Oggy to land.
- 20:14Applied to center field.
- 20:16Taken by Rose Sox
- 20:18of the White Sox.
- 20:20And that brings Neal Cabaretto
- 20:22to the first base of the bat.
- 20:24He'll be starting 273 this year.
- 20:26Left hand hitter,
- 20:28making 20 Kennedy.
- 20:30Kennedy looking around the field.
- 20:32Falling in his infield just a little bit.
- 20:34Taking their positions to entry hit.
- 20:36His main and there's a bit.
- 20:38Get out into left center.
- 20:42And Rip Rashid is waiting for it.
- 20:44And makes the catch for two outs.
- 20:46Two outs in the last half of the first inning.
- 20:48Gap made by Rip Rashid with the White Sox.
- 20:50So it's two outs.
- 20:52And that brings Billy Herman.
- 20:54After that, a right handed hitter.
- 20:56He's up there.
- 20:58Napping the plate.
- 21:00Getting himself adjusted.
- 21:02Waiting for the first pitch.
- 21:04Already for the first pitch.
- 21:06Here is the wind up.
- 21:08And the pitch.
- 21:10And he hits it.
- 21:12And he is out flying high like retiring a side.
- 21:14With no run.
- 21:16No hit.
- 21:18And no errors.
- 21:24So the White Sox comes about the first half of the second inning.
- 21:26With the floor tried.
- 21:28Nothing's in our thing.
- 21:30At the end of the first inning.
- 21:32The White Sox is all gone back down.
- 21:36And is there dug out over the first pitch over there.
- 21:38And certainly the White Sox looks very stressed.
- 21:40And they're very uniform.
- 21:42Sounded like a very white, whole uniform.
- 21:44Are also looking very stressed.
- 21:46This means the whole park is all messed up.
- 21:48For their first game of the City series.
- 21:50The field is as green as it can be.
- 21:52And it seems to be a very enthusiastic crowd out there.
- 21:54It's about 18,000.
- 21:56And we're going to get a little bit of a break.
- 21:58And we're going to get a little bit of a break.
- 22:00That's about 18,000.
- 22:02Bigville Lee is warming up out there with
- 22:04Gabby Hartman's mound.
- 22:06There goes the ball to
- 22:08Second Wave.
- 22:10Around the field, around the infield and back to the pitcher.
- 22:12And now
- 22:14stepping into the
- 22:16That is what is Bigville.
- 22:18First baseman of the White Sox.
- 22:20What did you take the first pitch?
- 22:22Barely winds up, throws.
- 22:24And it is Ball Rock.
- 22:26Ball one high and outside.
- 22:28Looking for a sign.
- 22:30Here's the wind up.
- 22:32And the pitch.
- 22:34And it is Strike Run.
- 22:36Bringing the count to one and one on Big Zeke's Inora.
- 22:38The first hitter in the first half of the second inning
- 22:40for the White Sox.
- 22:42Taking his position again.
- 22:44Barely watching for his sign.
- 22:46Has it.
- 22:48He hits it out into the center field.
- 22:50It's way high.
- 22:52Going out there and center field.
- 22:54All you go on makes the catch for the first half
- 22:56of the second inning.
- 22:58And the first half of the second inning
- 23:00is hitting the 388.
- 23:02The season record was 388.
- 23:04The first pitch he hits it out to right field.
- 23:06It's a high fly going out there.
- 23:08And Frank Demery, one bullet,
- 23:10makes the catch and it is two out
- 23:12in the first half of the second inning
- 23:14against the White Sox.
- 23:16Two out, which brings
- 23:18Blackie Hayes to the bat.
- 23:20And the first half of the second inning
- 23:22is the White Sox.
- 23:24Blackie Hayes to the bat.
- 23:26Second baseman of the White Sox
- 23:28who's been hitting this year.
- 23:30312.
- 23:32Hitting average of 312. The danger of hitter and any man, please.
- 23:36And the first pitch.
- 23:38And he hits it out to right field.
- 23:40And if Frank Demery is running in
- 23:42and he catches it out and it is three out.
- 23:44No run.
- 23:46No hit.
- 23:48And no errors in the first half of the second inning.
- 23:50No errors in the first half of the second inning.
- 23:52No errors in the first half of the second inning.
- 23:54For the Chicago White Sox,
- 23:56which brings the Chicago Cups to bat
- 23:58and the last half of the second inning.
- 24:00And the first run up, he is
- 24:02White Shielder Frank Demery
- 24:04who made the last out in the first half of the second inning.
- 24:06Frank Demery coming to bat.
- 24:08On the last now, the Black Sox
- 24:10has taken a field. The outfield is going out to their position.
- 24:12The infield is going out to their position.
- 24:14Going and going around.
- 24:16They're going to be running up to the school.
- 24:18And here comes the third pitch of the bat
- 24:20and the second half of the
- 24:22second inning. For the Cups
- 24:24Frank Demery White Shielder
- 24:26Frank Demery and Sadaf Lee has been hitting
- 24:28and his record this year
- 24:30has a percentage of 348
- 24:32348 a dangerous hitter.
- 24:34Now, ready for the first pitch?
- 24:36Now, ready for the first pitch?
- 24:38Now, ready for the first pitch?
- 24:40Kennedy getting his time from Luke Schultz.
- 24:42Here's the line up and the pitch
- 24:44and it is goal one high on inside
- 24:46to a right-handed hitter.
- 24:48One and no strike.
- 24:50The first hitter is the second half of the second inning.
- 24:52Here's the next pitch.
- 24:54Right down the heart of the plate for
- 24:56the Black Sox. The count is one and one.
- 24:58On Frank Demery, one goal and one strike.
- 25:00The pitch
- 25:02got away from Luke Schultz
- 25:04right side. The goal went all the way through
- 25:06for ball two. Goal far outside
- 25:08and even Luke Schultz couldn't catch him.
- 25:10Went all the way back to the screen for two goals
- 25:12and one strike. Down on Frank Demery.
- 25:14Frank Kennedy can't stay a little bit wild
- 25:16right now. Getting a sign
- 25:18out, tumbling the ball there.
- 25:20Wow, that one very nearly took a half
- 25:22out that time. He had to duck underneath
- 25:24and it got away from it.
- 25:26Frank Demery all looking in the peak of the cap
- 25:28for ball three. He's got three goals and one strike
- 25:30on Frank Demery.
- 25:32And on those faces, there's a little bit of dusting off going
- 25:34but on those faces, the first one that's been anywhere near
- 25:36a hitter. I don't think we can play that safe.
- 25:38The throwback from Luke Schultz
- 25:40was wide and
- 25:42as to Kennedy had to walk out awesome
- 25:44out of the most predictable left in the infield.
- 25:46Nobody's going to have to meddle. Here's the next pitch
- 25:48and it was right down the heart of the plate
- 25:50and Frank Demery letting go by a fourth strike
- 25:52two. So the string is right off at the end.
- 25:54Three goals and two strikes on
- 25:56Frank Demery. The next pitch he hit to
- 25:58a high fly into short center field
- 26:00run back first
- 26:02is the second baseman
- 26:04the second baseman
- 26:08Jackie Hay took the fly
- 26:10and maybe a third is
- 26:12one out in the last half
- 26:14of the second inning
- 26:18which brings
- 26:20Stanley Hatt to the back.
- 26:22Stanley Hatt coming to the back.
- 26:24The second hitter in the last half of the second inning
- 26:26for the Cubs. The Cubs
- 26:28did that.
- 26:30Stanley Hatt to left-hand hitter
- 26:32batting in 307 this year
- 26:34for the entire season.
- 26:36Here's the wind up by Kennedy on the fifth.
- 26:38He hit to the ground there, one into the box
- 26:40Kennedy takes it and goes to the sixth
- 26:42and then the second out
- 26:44in the second inning.
- 26:46So that was out from Kennedy
- 26:48to the newer
- 26:50the second out in the second inning
- 26:52which brings Jackie Hatt
- 26:54back up to the gap where the four will touch the back
- 26:56seems to have a few to tell me more about that
- 26:58top priority here in the south for Funderland
- 27:00and they must have been stopped by a little
- 27:02of a few of them from there and now they're in the cure.
- 27:04Here's the third pitch to Jackie Hay
- 27:06and then the four are inside
- 27:08and low to the right-handed hitter.
- 27:10Big Gary Hartnett to get the hold of the third
- 27:12trying to hold those leashes.
- 27:14The second pitch
- 27:16to the two.
- 27:18Kennedy is getting himself in a hole.
- 27:20Gary Hartnett this year in the bat play
- 27:22had a hitting average of
- 27:24307. Real seven Gary Hartnett batting at.
- 27:28Watch for his client. He has it.
- 27:30Blue stool. And here's the pitch.
- 27:32Sounded high into the first
- 27:34deck of the right field
- 27:36stand right down back a first base.
- 27:38Had a fight of straddle for the ball
- 27:40just to settle down now. Somebody got it.
- 27:42Two balls were thrown out by the umpire
- 27:44rubbing it up a little bit
- 27:46to get the shine off the ball and looking around the field.
- 27:48Incidentally no man on base. Two outs.
- 27:50Two balls and one strike on Gary Hartnett.
- 27:52Here's the pitch by Kennedy.
- 27:54Souted a swing at it
- 27:56but the shot goes back to
- 27:58going to go by for a ball high and up
- 28:00for ball three and strike one.
- 28:02Three balls and one strike on Gary Hartnett
- 28:04which is a pitch. He swings
- 28:06and goes down striking.
- 28:08Striking out for the third out in the second inning.
- 28:10Wow.
- 28:16Good try.
- 28:18He rides the next one out into right field.
- 28:20He'll have going back after
- 28:22and he makes the catch for the third out.
- 28:24So, Gary Hartnett went out after all.
- 28:26Flying out
- 28:28to Mulehouse in right field
- 28:30for the third out in the second inning
- 28:32making it no run.
- 28:34No hit.
- 28:36And that brings to that
- 28:38in the first half of the third inning.
- 28:40Jimmy Dikes
- 28:42third baseman for all they should call the white box
- 28:44and the third baseman is also the manager
- 28:46in the second inning.
- 28:48There's Big Bill Lee
- 28:50warming up
- 28:52with O'Day.
- 28:54O'Day warming up Big Bill Lee while Gary Hartnett
- 28:56who was the last man to hit gets on his catching frog
- 28:58chest protector in full force.
- 29:02He seems to be doing himself
- 29:04a very nice warm up out there.
- 29:06He hasn't missed the plate in five goals.
- 29:08There's a six throw right through the heart of the plate.
- 29:10There goes out the second brace
- 29:12over the shortstop
- 29:14over the third brace
- 29:16crossed the first and back through the pitcher.
- 29:18Here comes the bat for the
- 29:20white box in the first half of the third inning.
- 29:22Jimmy Dikes
- 29:24third baseman.
- 29:26Big Bill Lee gets his sign.
- 29:28Here's the wind-up and the pitch
- 29:30and he hits the first runner.
- 29:32O'Day hits out in the right field
- 29:34and he pulls out the first base.
- 29:36The right tambourine makes a quick throw
- 29:38in the second.
- 29:40So that puts
- 29:42Jimmy Dikes
- 29:44on first base
- 29:46and all out
- 29:48in the first half of the third inning.
- 29:50Bringing to that
- 29:52noob zero catcher for the Chicago White Sox.
- 29:54Getting the sign now.
- 29:56Jimmy Dikes on first base.
- 29:58Big Bill Lee winding up out there.
- 30:00Here's that stretch.
- 30:02That's the ball that's the first on the pitch.
- 30:04And it is
- 30:06right one, right down the heart of the plate.
- 30:08Looks as if
- 30:10the sacrifice that time to get Jimmy Dikes to
- 30:12second base.
- 30:14But it was a strike over the heart of the plate
- 30:16that he left go by for a call strike.
- 30:18So he looks at the first base.
- 30:20Pitches and
- 30:22the pitchers through the second
- 30:24and it's a fast double play.
- 30:26A fast double play from
- 30:28Big Bill Lee
- 30:30to Jackie Hayes
- 30:32to Phil Cabaretto to double
- 30:34Jimmy Dikes.
- 30:36So that makes it two off
- 30:38in the first half of the second inning.
- 30:40A fast double play by
- 30:42Big Bill Lee.
- 30:44Bringing to that
- 30:46grand candidate for pitchers.
- 30:48Wind up and the pitch
- 30:50is going to be
- 30:52the third.
- 30:54If the ground ball down to the shortstop
- 30:56and throws it across the first
- 30:58Joe Cabaretto stepping on first for the third
- 31:00out in the third inning for the white spot.
- 31:02That makes it no run.
- 31:04One hit.
- 31:06No run.
- 31:08Bringing to back
- 31:10in the last half of the
- 31:12third inning.
- 31:1412 of cups coming to back.
- 31:16This is the first game of the City Series
- 31:18and the first half of the
- 31:20third inning.
- 31:22The first half of the third inning
- 31:24for the white spot.
- 31:26Bringing to back
- 31:28Johnny Gill left fielder
- 31:30for the Chicago Cups.
- 31:32261
- 31:34261
- 31:36for Johnny Gill.
- 31:38He's a left handed hitter.
- 31:40He's knocking the mud out of his bike.
- 31:42Having cut out down the field.
- 31:44He's coming in and he is ready.
- 31:46He's going to be the first to run.
- 31:48High and outside to the left handed hitter.
- 31:50Can I get in his next signal?
- 31:52Bring it up and he throws.
- 31:54He hits a high fly over into the
- 31:56second net.
- 31:58How the left fielder stands.
- 32:00Everybody training around moving as one man
- 32:02but one ball and one strike
- 32:04on Johnny Gill.
- 32:06One ball and one strike.
- 32:08Here's the pitch.
- 32:10And it is high and outside for ball two.
- 32:12Running the count to two and one.
- 32:14Here's the pitch.
- 32:16Left fielder for the Chicago Cups.
- 32:18That's the last half of the third inning.
- 32:20Kennedy looking around the outfield
- 32:22calling his fielder in a little bit.
- 32:24Here's the pitch.
- 32:26Start of the swing.
- 32:28Stop and the ball is called.
- 32:30Throwing outside the ball three.
- 32:32Making the count three and one.
- 32:34Three balls and one strike on Johnny Gill.
- 32:36Here's the next pitch.
- 32:38And he hits it.
- 32:40A short bound in the infield.
- 32:42Scratch hit.
- 32:44Johnny Gill arriving at first base.
- 32:46So that puts the man on first.
- 32:48Nobody out.
- 32:50The last half of the third inning for the Chicago Cups.
- 32:52Bringing it back to Bill Durkin.
- 32:54Short top of the Chicago Cups.
- 32:56Already in the batter's box.
- 32:58With Johnny Gill holding first base.
- 33:00Walking up there
- 33:02tapping on the plate.
- 33:04Trying to be knocking him out of the line.
- 33:06Incidentally the fielder is very nice and dry.
- 33:08Here he is winding up.
- 33:10And the pitch.
- 33:12There's a high fly.
- 33:14Looks to the side of the pitch there.
- 33:16It goes down into the boxers.
- 33:18Back of third base.
- 33:20One strike on Bill Durkin.
- 33:22The last half of the third inning.
- 33:24One strike is the count.
- 33:26The man on first and nobody out.
- 33:28Putting it back on
- 33:30after on the mound.
- 33:32He sets on to the rubber.
- 33:34Here's the cover.
- 33:36Both of them are back in time very safely.
- 33:38Very close.
- 33:40Johnny Gill is a very fast man.
- 33:42Any kind of a hit will get him the strike.
- 33:44Taking his lead on.
- 33:46Right at the front and it was a strike.
- 33:48Nearly missing in quality.
- 33:50But just managed to hit it underneath the catcher's guard.
- 33:52And it was back to the screen.
- 33:54Two strikes on Bill Durkin.
- 33:56Two strikes and no balls.
- 33:58Looking around the field out there.
- 34:00Where's Johnny Gill holding first base.
- 34:02Very close.
- 34:04If you look over there.
- 34:06He's got a little bit of a pitch.
- 34:08And it's another ball up into the upper deck.
- 34:10Of the stand.
- 34:12Back of third base.
- 34:14The right field stand.
- 34:16That's all the way over the chair.
- 34:18It's almost cut out of the upper deck.
- 34:20Trying to get that ball.
- 34:22The ball game goes on.
- 34:24That's the almost hungover late that time.
- 34:26Trying to get down into the boxers.
- 34:28Nothing extra. Here comes the pitch.
- 34:30And he strikes out.
- 34:32Bill Durkin struck out.
- 34:36For one out. Leaving Johnny Gill on first base.
- 34:40And that brings about big goal lead.
- 34:42The cut pitcher.
- 34:44And he is hitting for himself.
- 34:50One out. Right hand the hitter.
- 34:52That's the pitcher.
- 34:54Kennedy is on the mound there.
- 34:56Stepping out of the rubber now.
- 34:58Here's the cuddle.
- 35:00The pitch.
- 35:02The ball one. The ball got away from Sewell.
- 35:04Backing up the plate.
- 35:06But he manages to hold Gill on first base.
- 35:08That's where the hit is going on.
- 35:10And that's that. Making out that he's thrown at the second.
- 35:14Kennedy back on the mound again.
- 35:16Hicking the dirt around.
- 35:18Watching for a base.
- 35:20See that Gill doesn't have the bigger lead.
- 35:22He's got some rubber. Gill takes his lead.
- 35:24And he throws back first.
- 35:26But Johnny Gill gets back in time.
- 35:28And get him off for the second out.
- 35:30Here's the pitch.
- 35:32And it's another foul.
- 35:34A foul up onto the screen back of home plate.
- 35:36Four strike one.
- 35:38So it's ball one and strike one.
- 35:40Our big goal lead. The pitcher is a ball cut.
- 35:42Another ball is thrown out.
- 35:44Kennedy wraps it up.
- 35:46One to first base.
- 35:48What does he try to kill as close as he can.
- 35:50I'm going to let him have any lead to get the second base.
- 35:52That's possible.
- 35:54And still leads.
- 35:56He's going to hit it. Right out of the center field.
- 35:58Hit it in the center field.
- 36:00Larry Rosenblum coming in fast and making the catch for the second out.
- 36:08So it's two out.
- 36:10In the third inning for the Chicago White Star.
- 36:12Leaving.
- 36:14Johnny Gill on first base.
- 36:16Only one hit so far.
- 36:20Johnny Gill on the left lead.
- 36:22The first hit also for Kennedy.
- 36:24The first hit also for
- 36:26one hit made off of
- 36:28the big goal lead. Here's Kennedy's first pitch
- 36:30to
- 36:32Alki Golan
- 36:34and it is ball one.
- 36:36Ball one. Low on outside.
- 36:38Will have to hand it in.
- 36:40Here's the pitch.
- 36:42And it is ball two.
- 36:44High on outside. Will have to hand it in.
- 36:46It's a ball to control.
- 36:48Pitching off to the land.
- 36:50Alki Golan up with two men out.
- 36:52Kennedy watching for his time from the mound up there.
- 36:56He has it. Looked at first base.
- 36:58Gill takes his lead.
- 37:00First very lift.
- 37:02Let's lay over to Zeke Van Nuura.
- 37:04And Johnny Gill has plenty of time to get back
- 37:06and not even throw.
- 37:08Watching it. Here's the pitch.
- 37:10And it is low.
- 37:12Ball three.
- 37:14Three balls and no strikes on Alki Golan.
- 37:16Center field.
- 37:18The Chicago cut. Who has an average of here.
- 37:20Two sixty five. Here's the pitch.
- 37:22And it is strike one.
- 37:24Let that one go by without even swinging at it.
- 37:26Hoping it might be a ball four.
- 37:28Going to lift it first.
- 37:30That's on the rubber. Here's the pitch.
- 37:32And it is ball two.
- 37:34No, correction. Ball four.
- 37:36And he gets the base on ball.
- 37:38Putting Alki Golan on first base.
- 37:42Moving Bill Turget.
- 37:44Or Johnny Gill, corrections.
- 37:46Johnny Gill to second base.
- 37:48Second base on that.
- 37:50Base on ball for Alki Golan.
- 37:52And that brings Bill Cavill at a first base.
- 37:54That's that.
- 37:56Then Kennedy on the mound.
- 37:58Getting his sign. Two men on. Two men out.
- 38:00Here's the pitch.
- 38:02And he swings at the high flight.
- 38:04Center field.
- 38:06Running in on it.
- 38:08And it was.
- 38:10The catch was made by Luke Thule.
- 38:12Also a strong force.
- 38:14No, Luke Cavill.
- 38:16And the line if we put him out there, it forced out.
- 38:18It was Luke Cavill out there.
- 38:20We made the catch for the third out. Retiring with us.
- 38:24So three out.
- 38:26No run.
- 38:28One hit. And no run.
- 38:34Two men left on the.
- 38:38And now ladies and gentlemen, at the end of the third inning.
- 38:40The cut.
- 38:42And the white socks are tied.
- 38:44Nothing to nothing.
- 38:46Nothing to nothing at the score.
- 38:48That brings the white socks to bat.
- 38:52First line at bat.
- 38:54In the first to the fourth.
- 38:56Here's Rip Bradford.
- 38:58Left fielder and leadoff man from the corner of the white socks.
- 39:00And an average to zero.
- 39:02335.
- 39:06Rip Bradford.
- 39:08Coming at the bat. Knocking the mud out of his bike.
- 39:10So the score nothing to nothing.
- 39:12He's out there.
- 39:14Stepping up there and big toe.
- 39:16Lee is on the mound.
- 39:18Here's the wind up for the first pitch.
- 39:20And he's rolled.
- 39:22And it is ball one.
- 39:24Over the plate but high for ball one.
- 39:26Hold on Rip Bradford.
- 39:28Rip Bradford steps out of the box for the minute.
- 39:30And it's back in again.
- 39:32Here's that swinging wind up on the pitch.
- 39:34He hits it.
- 39:36It's a ground ball down to field cab.
- 39:38Running over. Rolls at the ball.
- 39:40And it's out of the fourth inning.
- 39:42The average are taking the hit.
- 39:44Throwing to big bill Lee who covered first.
- 39:46So it is one out.
- 39:48First half to fourth inning.
- 39:52That brings to bat Larry Rosenclaw.
- 39:54Center field of the white socks.
- 39:56Left hand is hitter.
- 39:58Here's the wind up for the first pitch.
- 40:00And the throw. He hits it.
- 40:02It's a base hit out to right field.
- 40:04A base hit to right field.
- 40:06A quick throw in holding the first.
- 40:08The ball is out by.
- 40:10Gabby Hartnett in zero into the plate.
- 40:12When field cab ready.
- 40:14This is the throw that was made from Frank Demmerie.
- 40:16This is the throw that Gabby Hartnett
- 40:18retrieves quick enough to hold Larry Rosenclaw
- 40:20to first base. He didn't have time to advance
- 40:22to second all those. A very wild throw.
- 40:24So he didn't cost anything.
- 40:26With the cops on that wild throw from Frank Demmerie
- 40:28still cab ready which is backed up by Gabby Hart.
- 40:30So that puts one man on base.
- 40:32A single.
- 40:34Putting Larry Rosenclaw on first.
- 40:36With Neil Hartnett back.
- 40:38First run is strike run of foul.
- 40:40Foul to the left of the plate.
- 40:42And then I draw a lead out there.
- 40:44With that one.
- 40:46One out.
- 40:48Larry Rosenclaw on first.
- 40:50Neil Hartnett back.
- 40:52Here's the wind up for the next pitch.
- 40:54A base.
- 40:56Throw to second.
- 40:58And it's.
- 41:00Well we can't tell you how cold the thing is.
- 41:02Yes.
- 41:04On that hit.
- 41:06To stop the play.
- 41:08I throw to Jackie Hayes.
- 41:10At second.
- 41:12To cut down.
- 41:14For the second out.
- 41:16Neil Hartnett with a hit.
- 41:18Is on third base.
- 41:20That brings big spinor at that.
- 41:22First base is going to be White Rock.
- 41:24Here's the pitch.
- 41:26And it is high and inside.
- 41:28It wasn't inside.
- 41:30It's got the inside corner for strike one.
- 41:32So strike one.
- 41:34One strike on big spinor.
- 41:36Here's the wind up for the pitch.
- 41:38He hits it.
- 41:40And he's double play.
- 41:42Double out at second base.
- 41:46Neil Hartnett.
- 41:48Going down to second.
- 41:50Was caught by Jackie Hayes.
- 41:52When Jurgis caught that short in field hit.
- 41:56A look out for big spinor.
- 41:58And through to second.
- 42:02Getting hot as he went to second from first.
- 42:04So three out.
- 42:06No run.
- 42:10One hit.
- 42:12And no run.
- 42:16Last half of the fourth inning.
- 42:18That's coming to bat.
- 42:20Bring Billy Herman.
- 42:22Second baseman of the Chicago Cubs.
- 42:24First man out.
- 42:26Nice run in Kennedy.
- 42:32In Kennedy warming up.
- 42:34Still out there now.
- 42:36More out to second base.
- 42:38And back to the pitch.
- 42:40Already.
- 42:42Looking up a little bit out there in the field now.
- 42:44Kennedy looking around.
- 42:52Billy Herman.
- 42:54And that's the fourth inning.
- 42:56Kennedy walking first line.
- 42:58He has it. Here's the wall in the pitch.
- 43:00And it's a high five.
- 43:02He's caught center field.
- 43:04Center field.
- 43:06And makes the catch for the first half.
- 43:08So it's one out.
- 43:10Last half.
- 43:12I thought I'd get the right field.
- 43:14The right team out there in the field.
- 43:16It was Larry Rowe's fault.
- 43:18That made that catch.
- 43:20And that brings to bat.
- 43:22Black Dymarrie of bats.
- 43:26Here's a windup.
- 43:28And the pitch.
- 43:30And it's a strike one.
- 43:32Right down the heart of the place.
- 43:34Black Dymarrie.
- 43:36One strike.
- 43:38Here's a pitch.
- 43:40And it is strike two.
- 43:42Right in the same place.
- 43:44It's a strike down he's got to listen.
- 43:46Come on, about that. He's got a thousand more.
- 43:48Anyway, two strikes.
- 43:50He's swinging, it's a hit out in the front of field.
- 43:54Tyrone's coming in calling for it, and he makes the catch.
- 43:58Two outs, and the last pass is for the white for the cut. Two outs.
- 44:08That's how to hit her.
- 44:11I'm hitting 298.
- 44:13At the end of the season, that's here.
- 44:15He's up there waiting for the first pitch.
- 44:17Kennedy watching for his sign, he has his effect.
- 44:19He's swinging a pitch, he hits it.
- 44:21Going down the left field line,
- 44:23but back into the stand for a ball, for a foul.
- 44:26Strike one.
- 44:28Strike one on Stanley Hacks.
- 44:30There's a little ball thrown out by the school, and that's fine.
- 44:33Kennedy roughing it up,
- 44:35running on the mound, and watching for his sign.
- 44:37That's under the rubber, and the throw, the pitch is low.
- 44:40And outside, very low on the outside.
- 44:42Strike, this school has to get out of the dirt.
- 44:44Throwing a ball, one and strike one.
- 44:47On Stanley Hacks.
- 44:50Now the ball is going outside, for a ball too.
- 44:53Running a counter, two balls and one strike.
- 44:58On Stanley Hacks.
- 45:00Here's the wind at the game,
- 45:01the shuttle's the ball in front of the pitch.
- 45:03That was so high, the Luke had to jump in here to catch it,
- 45:05making it three balls and one strike.
- 45:08Kennedy walked far off the plate,
- 45:12and ran out of the game to the mound, for the school.
- 45:15Can't seem to hold that ball in that direction.
- 45:18Kicking the dirt out in front of the mound.
- 45:20Back up out of the mound, got it put on the rubber,
- 45:23watching for his sign.
- 45:25There's a wind up on the throw, and it is strike two.
- 45:28Running the count out to the end.
- 45:30Bring it run out to the end, three balls and two strikes.
- 45:33On Stanley Hacks with two outs.
- 45:35There's the pitch, and he hits it.
- 45:37Going out for the left field,
- 45:39back into the fans for the count.
- 45:44That's trying to catch it,
- 45:45and steps up onto the bar, protecting the seat.
- 45:47So right on his head, coming up with the ball, but he made it.
- 45:50Yes, he made the catch.
- 45:51Going to make Larry Rose go rip right through the hole.
- 45:53Hit up on their shows.
- 45:56Here's the next one,
- 45:57and it is ball four.
- 46:00And Stanley Hacks gets the base on ball.
- 46:02Putting him on first base with two outs,
- 46:04and the last half the fourth inning.
- 46:07Two outs, bringing Gabby Hacks.
- 46:10To the back, Gabby's getting an eye-to-eye on the fans,
- 46:12and the one thrown out to the plate.
- 46:16Just a peek on his tap, looking out there,
- 46:19makes a few signs,
- 46:20a little bit of crock into the very center of the...
- 46:24wrapping on the play there.
- 46:26It's about ready now.
- 46:28Steps into the batter's box.
- 46:30Kennedy roughs it around a little bit,
- 46:32gets a better flow of hole, and he's hooked onto the rubber.
- 46:34Watches first base, he throws,
- 46:36and it is ball one.
- 46:38Throwing inside through Gabby Hacks.
- 46:41Two outs, the last half of the fourth inning,
- 46:43it's going nothing to nothing.
- 46:44Stanley Hacks on first base.
- 46:46Last man on first, taking his lead off first bounce.
- 46:48Kennedy's hooked on the mound, he throws back to first,
- 46:50and Hacks gets back to the prime,
- 46:52so there's no count.
- 46:54Throw a count on Gabby Hacks,
- 46:56and now it's one ball and no strike.
- 46:58He throws it, and he's right through the box,
- 46:59back into the center field.
- 47:01First and Gabby is out.
- 47:03All the third outs, retiring inside.
- 47:05There's no run, no hit, and no error.
- 47:12At the end of the fourth inning,
- 47:14one man left on base.
- 47:17And now on base from the walk,
- 47:19that was Stanley Hacks.
- 47:21He's turned to the pass,
- 47:22and he walks right up the base.
- 47:26Just a little bit of a kickoff,
- 47:28looking out for a few times,
- 47:30and a little bit of traffic.
- 47:31Very Kennedy.
- 47:34That's a nice turn.
- 47:36It's about ready now.
- 47:38He's got some of the batters back.
- 47:40Kennedy rest up the mound a little bit,
- 47:42get a better grip on him.
- 47:43He's hooked onto the rubber,
- 47:44grab his first base,
- 47:45and it is well done.
- 47:48Slow on him, try to grab the Hacks.
- 47:50Two outs, the last half of the fourth inning,
- 47:52it's going nothing to nothing.
- 47:54Stanley Hacks on first base.
- 47:55Last man on first, taking his lead off first bounce.
- 47:58Kennedy hooked on the mound,
- 48:00he throws back the first,
- 48:01and Hacks gets back to the pass,
- 48:02so there's no count.
- 48:04No count on Gaby Hartman.
- 48:06Now he's one ball on no count.
- 48:08He throws the hit right through the box,
- 48:09back into the center field.
- 48:10He throws the first,
- 48:11and Gaby is off for the third outs,
- 48:13retiring the pass.
- 48:16With no runs, no hits,
- 48:18and no air.
- 48:22At the end of the fourth inning,
- 48:24one man left on base.
- 48:26And not on base from the wall.
- 48:28Now with Stanley Hacks,
- 48:30so far, Kennedy has allowed only one hit,
- 48:34whereas Big Del Lee has allowed two hits so far.
- 48:40Now Del Lee is out on the mound there,
- 48:41warming up with Guppy Drew.
- 48:44He's got the first half of the fifth inning.
- 48:47First man of the first half of the fifth inning
- 48:49is the batting captain of both leagues this year,
- 48:52Luke Atkinson.
- 48:54Shortstop, and he's called the right one.
- 48:57Del Lee wiring up.
- 48:59Picking out there for his warm-up.
- 49:02Taking a little bit of time as Gaby Hartman
- 49:04is back the last time,
- 49:05and that's when he takes time to get his
- 49:06catching cross on.
- 49:08There he comes out.
- 49:10Batting down behind the plate,
- 49:11as Luke Atkinson comes to bat.
- 49:14Now the first half of the fifth inning
- 49:15is four nothings and nothings.
- 49:18There's Del Lee at first hit.
- 49:19He winds up on the floor,
- 49:21and it is right one.
- 49:23Batting the inside corner.
- 49:26Strike one.
- 49:28One strike.
- 49:30The next 30th throw, and it is
- 49:34slow and inside,
- 49:35missing the inside corner this time for Del Lee.
- 49:37One ball and one strike.
- 49:39The count on Luke Atkinson.
- 49:41Shortstop.
- 49:42The right stop is the cover,
- 49:43and the 50th throw,
- 49:44the exit is the boundary of the shot.
- 49:47Oh, foul ball.
- 49:50Foul ball down the left field line,
- 49:53back to third base.
- 49:55Bringing Luke Atkinson back to
- 49:57resume his inning.
- 49:58Gaby Hartman's next minute of the bat
- 50:00is back to throw through the final mile.
- 50:02Hitting against Verne Gemini
- 50:03was he successfully mid-life time,
- 50:05but he was a lack of speed
- 50:06to the right first base.
- 50:08Got his family high-fives for third out of second.
- 50:11Luke Atkinson coming back now.
- 50:13He has his guy to step into the batter's box.
- 50:15So it's two strikes and one ball on Luke Atkinson.
- 50:17First man at bat in the first half of the fifth inning
- 50:19is four-nupting the nothing.
- 50:20Two strikes and one ball.
- 50:22Here's the wind-up, the cover and the pitch.
- 50:25The foul is at some high and back over.
- 50:27The loop of the second deck
- 50:30stands to the right of first base.
- 50:33So two strikes and one ball on Luke Atkinson.
- 50:38Loving up the new ball out there,
- 50:40lining up.
- 50:41Here's the pitch.
- 50:42And then low line inside.
- 50:44Had to jump right a bit away from that one.
- 50:46Here's the wind-up.
- 50:47Well, the foul is at an under the screen,
- 50:49back to the plate.
- 50:50Leaving about a two-and-two.
- 50:52Two balls and two strikes on Luke Atkinson.
- 50:54The ball is thrown in.
- 50:56Running it up a little bit.
- 50:58I think they're looking around the field.
- 51:00You can see everybody's in position in the middle.
- 51:02The foul is coming out very, very well now.
- 51:04And there's a very lift with wind going.
- 51:06And it's really bright.
- 51:07Here's the pitch.
- 51:08And it is ball three.
- 51:11Making a count.
- 51:12Three balls and two strikes.
- 51:13Running the string out at the end on Luke Atkinson.
- 51:16And then a pass.
- 51:17In the first half of the fifth.
- 51:18Here comes the next pitch.
- 51:20He draws.
- 51:21And in here, ball four.
- 51:24Ball four.
- 51:25Luke Atkinson gets the first base.
- 51:27Left the first base.
- 51:29Putting a man on first with nobody out the first half of the fifth.
- 51:32And that brings the match.
- 51:34Jackie Hayes, second base.
- 51:35Mr. Cole with that shot.
- 51:37Right hand is hitter.
- 51:40Big dirty getting his hands on the mound.
- 51:42Watching first base.
- 51:43He draws.
- 51:44He's got it.
- 51:46Right out of the left field.
- 51:48Luke Atkinson takes second base.
- 51:50Round up the first.
- 51:51That goes back.
- 51:53He's got it here.
- 51:54Make the last total third base.
- 51:56So it's a single.
- 51:57Our single to left field.
- 52:00By Jackie Hayes.
- 52:01Putting Jackie Hayes on first.
- 52:03And Luke Atkinson second base.
- 52:04The man on first and second.
- 52:05Nobody out.
- 52:06The first half of the fifth.
- 52:07And the four and nothing but up.
- 52:09And that brings the match.
- 52:10Jimmy Dye.
- 52:11Third base for the manager.
- 52:12The right side.
- 52:14Right hand is hitter.
- 52:15Round up to take it.
- 52:16Our lead off first and second.
- 52:18Big dirty.
- 52:19He gets his time from the catcher.
- 52:20He's got it.
- 52:21No wind up in the crowd.
- 52:22He's going to punch.
- 52:23Put it with a ball.
- 52:24High and...
- 52:27High and inside.
- 52:28So right hand is hitter.
- 52:29And one ball.
- 52:30Arm Jimmy Dye.
- 52:31Nobody out in the fifth inning.
- 52:33That's round to the rubber.
- 52:34Base can take their lead again.
- 52:36Lift around.
- 52:38Lift off the rubber again.
- 52:40Now they take too long of a lead.
- 52:42They run back.
- 52:43Drag up the base.
- 52:44That's your stretch.
- 52:46And the pitch.
- 52:48And it was higher and outside.
- 52:51But ball two.
- 52:53Ball two on Jimmy Dye.
- 52:56First man on first and second.
- 52:59Nobody out on the first half of the fifth inning.
- 53:01Four and nothing but up.
- 53:04Where's the final side?
- 53:05The first base right.
- 53:06Got one of them.
- 53:07One of them.
- 53:08And the second one is the last one.
- 53:10He's taking second.
- 53:11That's what the man is.
- 53:12And that's your two captain.
- 53:14With Jackie Hayes going to third base.
- 53:16And Jimmy Dye taking second base.
- 53:18When the one which was taken by third captain
- 53:20has thrown to Big Building.
- 53:23He's covered first base.
- 53:24Hitter runner in the arm as it was thrown in.
- 53:26So he's got the second base.
- 53:28Putting runners on second and third.
- 53:31Nobody out.
- 53:34Taking Jackie Hayes to third base.
- 53:37Jimmy Dye taking second.
- 53:39On that one.
- 53:41Might be an error on the ball.
- 53:45And that brings to that.
- 53:47It's true.
- 53:48That's it.
- 53:49Ball is ball one.
- 53:50Ball two.
- 53:51They're walking them on purpose.
- 53:52Ball two.
- 53:53Here's the next one.
- 53:54Ball three.
- 53:55And the next one will be.
- 53:58I am wide off.
- 53:59Ball four to throw the base.
- 54:00So this is the chance of a double play.
- 54:02One on home.
- 54:04Jackie Hayes on third base.
- 54:08Jimmy Dye on second base.
- 54:10And Luke Schurl on third base.
- 54:12Loading the base.
- 54:13That brings to that.
- 54:14Brent Kennedy.
- 54:15Brent Kennedy heading for himself.
- 54:20With nobody out in the first half of the fifth inning.
- 54:23One run home.

- 56:16Going one strike on Larry Rosenclaw.
- 56:17Strike one.
- 56:18One man out.
- 56:19Five runs home.
- 56:20A body on base.
- 56:21Fipping out of the bat.
- 56:22Everybody on base.
- 56:24Stepping out of the batters box for a minute.
- 56:26Get his instructions.
- 56:30Stepping back in now.

- 57:08Trying to get a time down there.
- 57:10That's going to be effective.
- 57:12Looking at Gabby Hartnett. Watching him.
- 57:14He has his time. He's swinging wind up.
- 57:16And the throw.
- 57:18He's hit.
- 57:20A lot of wasn't.
- 57:22He's out.
- 57:24That's the second out.
- 57:26Two men out.
- 57:28Two men out.
- 57:30Last half.
- 57:32The first half for the fifth inning.
- 57:34The white side runs home.
- 57:36That brings the bat.
- 57:38The white side hits the first one.
- 57:40Downs all the fishers head.
- 57:42The burgers catches it.
- 57:44Throws the first and have it.
- 57:46The red team is already out for the third out.

- 1:10:50One ball and one strike.
- 1:11:00One ball and one strike.
- 1:11:10One ball and one strike.
- 1:11:20One ball and one strike.
- 1:11:30One ball and one strike.
- 1:11:40One ball and one strike.
- 1:11:50One ball and one strike.
- 1:12:00One ball and one strike.
- 1:12:10One ball and one strike.
- 1:12:20One ball and one strike.
- 1:12:30One ball and one strike.
- 1:12:40One ball and one strike.
- 1:12:50Billy Herman walks from the last half of the big setting.
- 1:13:00Frank Demary is the bat.
- 1:13:04Frank Demary is the dangerous hitter and now is his chance to do something.
- 1:13:10The Cubs expect to get in his course to show these soft riders that this is a strictly field.
- 1:13:16The Cubs are getting a sign from Sue and the Fitch.
- 1:13:26One ball and one strike.
- 1:13:36One ball and one strike.
- 1:13:46One ball and one strike.
- 1:13:56One ball and one strike.
- 1:14:06One ball and one strike.
- 1:14:16One ball and one strike.
- 1:14:26One ball and one strike.
- 1:14:36One ball and one strike.
- 1:14:46One ball and one strike.
- 1:14:56One and one is the Count on Stanley Hacks.
- 1:15:06The Hacks get a nice right over third base out into left field.
- 1:15:16The Hacks get a nice right over third base out into left field.
- 1:15:26The Hacks get a nice right over third base out into left field.
- 1:15:36The one out and man on first and second.
- 1:15:46The Hacks are on the screen.
- 1:15:52Hacks on first, Demary on second and Gabby Hardman is bat with strike one.
- 1:16:00Strike one on Gabby Hardman. Kennedy watching for the sign.
- 1:16:04Definitely a satisfactory and here's the Fitch.
- 1:16:08Gabby follows one off to the right and is taken by Zeke Panora.
- 1:16:13And I'm catched by Zeke Panora right over in front of the shot sucker.
- 1:16:17So it's two out and Johnny Gill at bat.
- 1:16:22Two out, Johnny Gill at bat.
- 1:16:24Demary on second, Danny Hacks on first.
- 1:16:28Johnny Gill left hand is hitter.
- 1:16:30He's done some nice things with that bat at times. Now is his chance to show that it's still in good shape.
- 1:16:36Kennedy however, catching a very nice game today, getting out of the tight spot.
- 1:16:41So here we go, two out, man on first and second and the last half of the six.
- 1:16:45Where's the soft leading five and nothing.
- 1:16:49The Fitch and he swings for strike one.
- 1:16:55Strike one on Johnny Gill.
- 1:17:07Kennedy getting ready now. There's the Fitch.
- 1:17:10Johnny falls one back here into the lower deck and there's a man.
- 1:17:14There's some more mad scrambles with all balls out here today.
- 1:17:17I think Fred explained a few minutes ago about a jab over here to our left.
- 1:17:21I think a low dive right over the lower deck boxes there.
- 1:17:25But rather than that trying to hit a ball.
- 1:17:28There you are man on first and second. Two out, Kennedy catching and Johnny Gill at bat.
- 1:17:36And he right in through Luke Appling and Paul the third out.
- 1:17:43Two men left on bases. All the luscious Luke Appling had to do was just kind of bend down and it landed right next to him.
- 1:17:53So here we go into the first half of the seventh.
- 1:17:56Where's the right cross leading five and nothing.
- 1:18:02Tech thousand pitching now for the cuts. Debbie Hartnett still catching and of course all the other fans both south side and north side are standing up.
- 1:18:13Oh, oh, it's the George Government. It is the south side. Where's the north side?
- 1:18:21The other band of boys warming up talking about their first five runs. They're getting to look awfully, awfully big for the talks.
- 1:18:32One of the black talks in the first half of the seventh is Luke Stool.
- 1:18:36Stool at bat.
- 1:18:39Mr. Luke Stool who wears number 14 cleaning off his spikes.
- 1:18:42He's still just a little bit muddy out there although the guns in excellent condition for the rain that we've had.
- 1:18:48Any ready? There's a pitch and wow.
- 1:18:52He gets a hold of a nice one and it goes right in. This is the arms of Henry.
- 1:18:57The hands of Henry. I don't know what do we think this is for Paul.
- 1:19:04Nice hands of Ellen Kennedy. She comes to bat. He's playing a nice game today.
- 1:19:10It is close to close with a couple of Hootman Hollis. Nevertheless, that hands the Benin Kennedy who faces Tex Garden and the pitch.
- 1:19:18And he swings for strike one. Strike one on Benin Kennedy.
- 1:19:27And he hits one shot down to second base and he is out. They're being taken by Billy Hunter.
- 1:19:35So it's two out now. Stool and Kennedy both went out. Stool is flying out to Benin and Kennedy to Billy Hunter.
- 1:19:45That brings up Ripper Redcliffe the boy that's not hiding off the ball here not so long ago.
- 1:19:50And then Stennonfield leaches putting those four runs across.
- 1:19:59Ball two on Ripper Redcliffe.
- 1:20:02And he gets a hold of another one. It's a sharp one but it is being taken by Johnny Gill.
- 1:20:08So that requires a side. The first half of seventh inning.
- 1:20:11Now we're going to see how good a guest George is. Yes, he's right. Now comes the Northside strike.
- 1:20:17Well, well, well. Yeah, the Northside strike.
- 1:20:31In the last half of the seventh, Bill Jurgus is the first man of that for the Cubs.
- 1:20:38The Julian Jurgus. He plays a very nice game of shortstop.
- 1:20:45Kennedy warming up at Lucero. Ball going out at the infield.
- 1:20:49Ball is talking it up, right there. Leving their hands. Getting a little warm.
- 1:20:53The sun is not very warm today and it only comes out very stingily.
- 1:21:01Kennedy on the mound getting ready to pitch. The hitter is Bill Jurgus. Shortstop for the Cubs.
- 1:21:07And the stretch and the pitch. And it's strike one. Strike one on Bill Jurgus.
- 1:21:18And the strike went right through Kennedy and the man comes up with it and he is down.
- 1:21:24That was a nice ball taken by Epling on a very, very fast bounce since the end of the manure.
- 1:21:29Putting Bill Jurgus right out of the picture. And takes Cubs at that.
- 1:21:35Takes Cubs and a Cubs pitcher. That's left handed. I guess the right hand is pitching a Vernon Kennedy.
- 1:21:46Ball one on Cubs.
- 1:21:50Ball one.
- 1:21:58Throwing the ball out of the game. Passing a new ball and Soule is wrapping it up a little bit for Kennedy.
- 1:22:03And back it goes with the pitching box.
- 1:22:05Mr. Kennedy puts his mark of the train on it and the stretch and here it comes.
- 1:22:12Ball two. Ball two and takes Cubs.
- 1:22:21Ball three and looks to Cubs. Well, well.
- 1:22:25Oh, I'm shy. Ball two and strike one. I'm not that one.
- 1:22:30And takes it to hold it in the high ground. It goes out to left-shut-it and is taken by Redgate.
- 1:22:39And looted two out.
- 1:22:43W. Guilin is back for the Cubs. The last half of the step. Two outs.
- 1:22:48No runs, no hits. No errors.
- 1:22:54Kennedy is very stingy with his hits today. In fact, he's pitching a very, very swell game.
- 1:22:59And the last half of the step.
- 1:23:09And ball two. Not Ogie Guilin.
- 1:23:15Ball two.
- 1:23:22And two outs.
- 1:23:27Strike one. Strike one and ball two on Ogie Guilin in the last half of the step.
- 1:23:36Whoa! That one looked like a ball from here, but the unscalled hit the strike and it cut the inside corner of the blade.
- 1:23:44And Ogie Guilin made a people attempt at that last one. He just kind of wish he was in.
- 1:23:51It was the third strike. So it's three outs. And we're coming into the first half of the eighth inning and that score of five to nothing looks bigger and bigger all the time.
- 1:23:59Fred would have given me just a little sip of that coffee.
- 1:24:03Why? I guess not. Thanks. Hey, it's awfully nice of you. Coffee just gave out all of it.
- 1:24:11Next call round the mound. Yeah, it'd be hard to have that behind the plate. The ball is tossing the ball around and he cut a field. It gave me a little warm. That was a good one, wasn't it?
- 1:24:21What? No coffee.
- 1:24:24The score of five to nothing for the talks coming in the first half of the eighth inning and we find a fat Larry Rosenclaw.
- 1:24:31This boy used to do a lot of baseball for St. Paul. Do you know that, Fred?
- 1:24:38I've seen a lot of those in the back.
- 1:24:42I've been getting the sign and here's the pitch.
- 1:24:46And Larry gets a hold of one. It's a short fly. Oh, oh, oh. That's a single.
- 1:24:52And it's just...when he fooled them all that time, that was the kind of shit that Texas Ligaried dropped into left center.
- 1:24:58I don't know what was the matter with Johnny Guilin. He seemed to hesitate and just let that ball land right in front of him and it developed into a two-bagger burlary.
- 1:25:06And we have a man on second base with no outs. And New Halls is fat.
- 1:25:14New Halls is fat. That was a funny one.
- 1:25:25New Halls will try to lay down a punt now and get this man Larry over at Larry Rosenclaw over to third.
- 1:25:32And he's trying to strike two, not strike one and ball one. I can't get over that one, Fred.
- 1:25:38The little Texas Ligaried. Johnny Guilin just stood there and looked in and dropped in front of him and the man winds up to second base.
- 1:25:43Larry's off and he passed on the bags anyway.
- 1:25:46And he swung it up and it was a foul kick by the catcher. So two strikes and ball one on New Halls.
- 1:26:03Here's the stretch and the pitch. And Mr. New Halls goes right back to the dugout.
- 1:26:10I've heard you out there watching the third strike. Goodbye. One out.
- 1:26:19One out. Larry Rosenclaw on second. And we have Zeke Menorio at bat with one ball.
- 1:26:28Monty Stratton is over there in the right field full-time warming up for the socks. Zeke Menorio at bat.
- 1:26:34Ball one on Zeke. Ball two on Zeke. Larry Rosenclaw still on second base, taking a little lead.
- 1:26:43And it's one out and the score five to nothing for the Red Sox in the first half of the eighth inning.
- 1:26:52Ball two and strike one on Zeke Menorio.
- 1:26:54Stratton Menorio looks big enough to not just fall right out of the park.
- 1:27:00And the pitch from Zeke's garden and it is right through that little corner.
- 1:27:05And the forcing is a beautiful that one.
- 1:27:09South side is a quarter.
- 1:27:12And it's one out. Larry Rosenclaw in the corner and he is out.
- 1:27:17Texas got a little something on that pole. They're breaking very sharply over the outside corner.
- 1:27:21And they're still good. So it's now two out and you got to look at that.
- 1:27:29And the lead is at both leagues in batting this year.
- 1:27:32Larry Rosenclaw on second.
- 1:27:36Another one of those underhanded plants from McGarden.
- 1:27:39Ball four one on Luke Ebbling.
- 1:27:44And Luke gets a hold of one and follows it out to the right almost to the both ends.
- 1:27:51Right one and ball one on Luke Ebbling.
- 1:27:53Two out. Larry Rosenclaw on second.
- 1:27:55And two out and five to nothing for the white socks.
- 1:28:00Next garden. Pitching now replacing Bill Lee who started the game.
- 1:28:08And it is ball two and strike one.
- 1:28:13Ball two and strike one. I'll make it in.
- 1:28:18That was just lobbed over. A very slow ball.
- 1:28:24And it's eight to play.
- 1:28:26Thanks.
- 1:28:27Rubbing the rod and dragging the ball and getting ready to ball three and strike one on Luke Ebbling.
- 1:28:33And it's strike two.
- 1:28:35Well it's just got to be good. One way or the other.
- 1:28:37Larry Rosenclaw on second.
- 1:28:39And two out.
- 1:28:43Ball four on Luke Sewell.
- 1:28:47I mean Luke Ebbling. What am I talking about Luke Sewell?
- 1:28:53Jackie Hayes second base.
- 1:28:56The socks are bad.
- 1:29:01And it's ball one.
- 1:29:03Jackie Hayes has a rather big stand.
- 1:29:05And the white one is left leg stuck way out in front of the right.
- 1:29:09This is only going to wail a little bit out of it.
- 1:29:14Strike one and ball one on Jackie Hayes.
- 1:29:16Larry Rosenclaw still on second base.
- 1:29:19And Luke Ebbling on first.
- 1:29:21And he's going to go for it by virtual ball one.
- 1:29:23Man on first and second.
- 1:29:25Score five to nothing.
- 1:29:27First half lead, Vinny.
- 1:29:29Score five to nothing.
- 1:29:30The socks.
- 1:29:32The stretch and the pitch.
- 1:29:34And he gets a hold of one and right smack that in Vinny Herman's mitt.
- 1:29:42Five leads from Man on first and second.
- 1:29:44Three out.
- 1:29:45No runs. No hits.
- 1:29:46No errors.
- 1:29:48Oh, I'll take a part. Right one hand. I'll put that.
- 1:29:54Now we're going to the last half of the eighth inning with the top count to pass.
- 1:30:01With Bill Cabaretta.
- 1:30:03Bill Cabaretta, first base has had that.
- 1:30:08Kennedy pitching a very nice ball game on Saturday.
- 1:30:12And so is Tex Cobb.
- 1:30:19Oh, Fred Pollard tells me that Kennedy's only allowed four hits.
- 1:30:24Four hits in the ball game is not bad.
- 1:30:26With a lead of five to nothing, he's in a very nice spot.
- 1:30:32Cabaretta is back.
- 1:30:36Kennedy getting his time for Lucille.
- 1:30:38Cabaretta batting left-handed, of course.
- 1:30:40And here is the pitch.
- 1:30:42And Bill takes a hold of one and plans it right out here.
- 1:30:45The mitt of our friend, Bill Hart.
- 1:30:49So it's one out.
- 1:30:50And I said, Paul, the field just ran about 20 feet.
- 1:30:54Took it for the first out.
- 1:30:57One out.
- 1:31:01And Billy Herman at bat.
- 1:31:02Billy Herman right-handed hit it.
- 1:31:09And there it is.
- 1:31:10And it is strike one.
- 1:31:12Right over the heart of the plate.
- 1:31:20All one.
- 1:31:21All one on strike one.
- 1:31:22On Billy Herman.
- 1:31:26That's half of the eighth inning.
- 1:31:30And Billy takes a wicked swing at that one,
- 1:31:32but fouled it out to the left.
- 1:31:37And it's struck by manager Charlie Grimm,
- 1:31:39who is now on third base coaching.
- 1:31:43The correctness of care, that's a great change.
- 1:31:48There's the pitch.
- 1:31:49Strike one on Demary.
- 1:31:51Out over the heart of the plate, little to the outside.
- 1:31:55And the pitch.
- 1:31:57Strike two, right in the same place.
- 1:32:00Cut that plate, just a little to the outside,
- 1:32:02then about waist high.
- 1:32:05All one.
- 1:32:07Ball one on strike two on Frank Demary.
- 1:32:10Frank digging in with his strikes there to get a foot hold.
- 1:32:13As much as to say, well, boys, look out for this one.
- 1:32:17Yeah.
- 1:32:20Give me a good foot hold.
- 1:32:22Oh, he's digging out.
- 1:32:23He found something.
- 1:32:26Little rock, he's in his way.
- 1:32:27Well, that probably helped matters.
- 1:32:29I'm probably going to get a hold of this one.
- 1:32:31Demary at bat.
- 1:32:32Two strikes and ball one.
- 1:32:34And the booze is set up.
- 1:32:37Can't be completely crossing that time.
- 1:32:40Burned in a fast burn.
- 1:32:42Ball two on strike two on Frank Demary.
- 1:32:46The pitch.
- 1:32:49He's got a little bit of a backhand there.
- 1:32:52He's got a little bit of a backhand there.
- 1:32:54Burned in a fast burn.
- 1:33:05Ball three.
- 1:33:09Now we see a Frank by digging that little rock out of there.
- 1:33:12He did himself any good.
- 1:33:13Three and two now.
- 1:33:14Two out and the pitch.
- 1:33:16And he wails one.
- 1:33:18Now, went foul.
- 1:33:21Looks fair for a while, but went foul in the extreme.
- 1:33:25End of the left field boxers.
- 1:33:28Almost out to the wall.
- 1:33:30But still, two strikes and three balls on Frank Demary.
- 1:33:37Last half of the eighth inning.
- 1:33:39He's not leading the five.
- 1:33:41The score of five looks pretty big, doesn't it, Freddie?
- 1:33:46And the pitch.
- 1:33:48And he gets a hold of one and right back down into Billy Herman Smith.
- 1:33:56Five, eight and a half in first and second.
- 1:33:58Three out.
- 1:33:59No run.
- 1:34:00No hit.
- 1:34:01No error.
- 1:34:02Oh, I think he's right in front of one hit.
- 1:34:04I looked at that.
- 1:34:09Now we go into the first inning.
- 1:34:10Last half of the eighth inning was the club's time to pass.
- 1:34:16The first base was half past.
- 1:34:23Kennedy pitching a very nice ball game, not fair to be.
- 1:34:26And so is Tex Brown.
- 1:34:34Old Frank Muller tells me that Kennedy's only allowed four hits.
- 1:34:38Four hits in the ball game is not bad.
- 1:34:41With a lead of five to nothing, he's in a very nice spot.
- 1:34:47Got a letter of defense.
- 1:34:51Kennedy getting his time to loose a little.
- 1:34:53Got a letter of batting left-handers across.
- 1:34:55And here is the pitch.
- 1:34:57And Bill makes a hold of one and plans it right out into the nip of our friend, Jill Hart.
- 1:35:04So it's one out.
- 1:35:05Nice hit for all the duels.
- 1:35:07Ran about 20 feet.
- 1:35:09Took it for the first out.
- 1:35:12One out.
- 1:35:16And Billy Herman at bat.
- 1:35:17Billy Herman right-handed hit it.
- 1:35:24Kennedy gets the time and there it is.
- 1:35:26And it is strike one.
- 1:35:28Right over the heart of the plate.
- 1:35:35All one strike one.
- 1:35:41That's out of the evening.
- 1:35:45And Billy takes a wicket swing at that one, but fouled it out to the left.
- 1:35:52Where it was picked up by a manager Charlie Grimm, who is now on third base coaching.
- 1:35:59Just a red foot.
- 1:36:00Take care of that.
- 1:36:01That's a great change.
- 1:36:04And the pitch.
- 1:36:05Strike one on Demary.
- 1:36:07Out over the heart of the plate.
- 1:36:08Little to the outside.
- 1:36:11And the pitch.
- 1:36:13Strike two right in the same place.
- 1:36:16Cut that plate just a little to the outside, then the bat weighs high.
- 1:36:21All one.
- 1:36:23All one and strike two on Frank Demary.
- 1:36:27Frank digging in with his strike there to get a foothold.
- 1:36:30I just do say, well boys, look out for this one.
- 1:36:37He's getting me a good foothold.
- 1:36:39Oh, he's digging in.
- 1:36:40He found something.
- 1:36:43Little rock was in his way.
- 1:36:44Well, that would have helped.
- 1:36:46I'm glad we get a hold of this one.
- 1:36:48Demary at bat.
- 1:36:49Two strikes and ball one.
- 1:36:55He crossed about that time by throwing a very, very slow ball and Frank almost broke his back.
- 1:37:00And bounced it.
- 1:37:01Two outs.
- 1:37:02Two strikes and ball one.
- 1:37:04And the boos have set up.
- 1:37:08He completely crossed it that time.
- 1:37:11Burnt in a fast one.
- 1:37:12Four, ball two.
- 1:37:13Ball two and strike two on Frank Demary.
- 1:37:21A pitch.
- 1:37:22Ball three.
- 1:37:27Well, now we see a strike by digging that little rock out of there.
- 1:37:30Didn't stop any good.
- 1:37:31Three and two now.
- 1:37:32Two outs and the pitch.
- 1:37:33And he wails one.
- 1:37:36Now went foul.
- 1:37:39Look there for a while, but went foul.
- 1:37:41And the extreme end of the left field box is almost out to the wall.
- 1:37:48But still two strikes and three balls on Frank Demary.
- 1:37:55Last half of the eighth inning.
- 1:37:57Stock leading five.
- 1:37:59Four and five.
- 1:38:00Looks pretty big, doesn't it, Freddie?
- 1:38:04And the pitch.
- 1:38:08Four and four.
- 1:38:09Frank Demary walks.
- 1:38:11That life on a rather a poor throw by Kennedy, which almost hit the ground before reaching the plate.
- 1:38:19That brings up Stanley Hacks, where it's based.
- 1:38:22Stan Hacks, a left hand hitter.
- 1:38:26And Kennedy getting his time.
- 1:38:27And he burns the first one in.
- 1:38:29And it is ball one.
- 1:38:33Ball one on Stan Hacks.
- 1:38:37Kennedy watching, getting his time on the river.
- 1:38:41The stretch and the pitch.
- 1:38:43Strike one.
- 1:38:45Strike one and ball one.
- 1:38:54Strike two.
- 1:38:57Who's good over on that one?
- 1:38:58It seemed a little low, but nevertheless the upstone is very seasoned.
- 1:39:02And it's strike two and ball one.
- 1:39:05Stanley Hacks, two outs.
- 1:39:07Throw runs.
- 1:39:09And the stock's leading five and up.
- 1:39:13Stan got a hold of one of them.
- 1:39:15Slow founder, out the second.
- 1:39:16And the first stand, he is out.
- 1:39:18And so I went to Jackie A's, the two and out.
- 1:39:20That's where I say, Steve Madura.
- 1:39:23Throw, speeding, Stan Hacks, five, out of four.
- 1:39:27So it is three outs.
- 1:39:29Stock's come to bat in there.
- 1:39:30First half of the ninth inning.
- 1:39:32And again we repeat that score of five looks very, very, very big right now.
- 1:39:51Thanks, Tarzan.
- 1:39:53And Gabby Hartnett oneing up.
- 1:39:58Wind's blowing up here.
- 1:40:00And the coach's out here today and throws sweaters and blankets.
- 1:40:05Is that ready now?
- 1:40:10Jimmy Dyson is batting for the stocks in there.
- 1:40:13First half of the ninth inning.
- 1:40:15Score of five and nothing in favor of the stocks.
- 1:40:17Tarzan pitching.
- 1:40:19Strike one on Jimmy Dyson.
- 1:40:23Strike one on Jimmy Dyson, a foot shool.
- 1:40:27And he's ready to come to bat.
- 1:40:30Strike two.
- 1:40:33Jimmy didn't like that very well.
- 1:40:36Strike two, no bow.
- 1:40:39And Jimmy Dyson just swung and struck out and had to knock the empire as he goes over to duck out.
- 1:40:45And he found that second strike.
- 1:40:47So it's one out, nobody on.
- 1:40:51And the first half of the ninth inning.
- 1:40:54Score of five and nothing in favor of the stocks.
- 1:40:57Tarzan pitching.
- 1:40:59And two went to punt, but the ball went behind him over to the duck-dugout to our left.
- 1:41:03Go in strike one.
- 1:41:06Tarzan loose shool.
- 1:41:14Tarzan using the rod and bag, the stretch and the pitch.
- 1:41:18Ball one.
- 1:41:21And one and strike one.
- 1:41:26And Luke gets a hold of one and out into left center.
- 1:41:30Our left center, rather, which was taken by Augie Gillan.
- 1:41:37So it's out, two out, no one.
- 1:41:41And Kennedy coming to bat.
- 1:41:42Kennedy gets a very nice pass.
- 1:41:44It's only about four years, all day today.
- 1:41:48And on those days, Mr. Kennedy was playing.
- 1:41:54Kennedy at bat, two out.
- 1:41:56And he takes a cut at the first ball, which is a foul-tip back against the stand.
- 1:42:00The blue ball being thrown in.
- 1:42:02Tarzan gets the sign and the pitch.
- 1:42:07Ball one and strike one.
- 1:42:09Two outs.
- 1:42:11And the first half of the ninth inning, the white dog leading five to nothing.
- 1:42:18And Mr. Kennedy took a wild swing at bat one, which developed into strike two.
- 1:42:28Strike two on Kennedy.
- 1:42:32Ball one, the ball two at it.
- 1:42:34Ball two and strike two on Kennedy.
- 1:42:37Two outs.
- 1:42:40And the third foul of the batter's box, and out of clean off his strike.
- 1:42:43He's back again.
- 1:42:45Ready to go.
- 1:42:47Tarzan getting a time, the stretch, and here's the pitch.
- 1:42:51Get the hole to one and fouls it back to our left.
- 1:42:53Up on the top deck of the stand.
- 1:42:55Strike two and ball two.
- 1:43:03And Kennedy, the box, but to the bat.
- 1:43:06And he's back down.
- 1:43:08Next foul, from Burnham.
- 1:43:10Nice one in there on the last strike, it seems.
- 1:43:12They just kind of wobble a bit and then, boom, disappear.
- 1:43:16And the gentlemen go right back to the dugout.
- 1:43:18Third three out.
- 1:43:20And the first half of the ninth inning, the Cubs coming to bat for their last chance.
- 1:43:23They're sure about nothing for the talk.
- 1:43:25So now Fred, I think you've had enough, Fred.
- 1:43:27You have some air spread power, ladies and gentlemen.
- 1:43:30Back at George Watson.
- 1:43:32How about the last half of the ninth inning, the Cubs?
- 1:43:35And then Kennedy on the mound, with the school behind the bat, warming up out there.
- 1:43:40Kennedy warming up with a score of standing back to nothing in favor of the
- 1:43:43South side to the right shot.
- 1:43:45Nothing for the North side to the right shot.
- 1:43:47The last half of the ninth inning, the Cubs.
- 1:43:49Last one for the Cubs.
- 1:43:51They come to bat with the...
- 1:43:54They've got the hot, they've got the hot, they've got the first man of bat.
- 1:43:57They have to slowly up the plate as Kennedy completely warmed up to the north and through.
- 1:44:02They're backing it up with a little bit of energy.
- 1:44:06Kennedy must be around out there on the mound a little bit.
- 1:44:10To a fanciful set up.
- 1:44:12So, he's watching for time to make the first pitch to Gabby Hudson.
- 1:44:15Here's a wind up in the throw.
- 1:44:17Gabby's trying to make the half the count better.
- 1:44:19He's going down, foul, he's dug out, and looks to make the catch.
- 1:44:22There's the first half.
- 1:44:24One out of the ninth inning.
- 1:44:26One out of the ninth inning for the Cubs.
- 1:44:29That's the third one for the Cubs coming in.
- 1:44:32That's five run, we've looked bigger and bigger.
- 1:44:34One out, the green, Johnny Gilles to bat.
- 1:44:37Johnny Gilles, left field up in the Cubs, the left hand hitter.
- 1:44:40Standing up there at the plate now.
- 1:44:42Ready to take his.
- 1:44:44John has bat.
- 1:44:45As Ren Kennedy stands around the mound watching for his time on the move too.
- 1:44:49Doesn't like that one.
- 1:44:50Checked out that side.
- 1:44:51Now he has one that he likes.
- 1:44:52There's a wind up in the pitch.
- 1:44:54Again, he lines the second allowed in to right center.
- 1:44:56Rolls foul.
- 1:44:57He's going down for it on his way to second.
- 1:44:59The bats throw in.
- 1:45:00Coming in from right field from Newell-Hart.
- 1:45:02He rolls on standing up that second base.
- 1:45:04That's that there.
- 1:45:06By Johnny Gilles putting him on second base with one man out.
- 1:45:10The last half of the ninth inning.
- 1:45:15That brings the bats.
- 1:45:16They all jerk it.
- 1:45:17Four stops, normal Cubs, right hand hitter.
- 1:45:19That's the bats, one man out.
- 1:45:21Johnny Gilles on second base.
- 1:45:23Ren Kennedy pitching now.
- 1:45:25Side, here's the pitch.
- 1:45:27And it's a hit.
- 1:45:29Well, it is a hit though.
- 1:45:30He'll have to go back and make the catch.
- 1:45:32And after the catch, Johnny Gilles goes to third base.
- 1:45:36Only a man on third with two offs.
- 1:45:44Which brings the bats.
- 1:45:46And hitting four check carbon.
- 1:45:48Oday, Oday batting for carbon.
- 1:45:55Johnny Gilles on third base.
- 1:45:57Two men out.
- 1:45:58Oday batting for carbon.
- 1:46:00Left handed hitter, now for hitter.
- 1:46:05Batting up track.
- 1:46:06Ren Kennedy looking over third base.
- 1:46:08The whole Johnny Gilles is close to the chance.
- 1:46:10He starts to run from scoring.
- 1:46:13Here's the catch for a cutout.
- 1:46:14Here's the pitch.
- 1:46:15And it's right down the heart of the plate.
- 1:46:17Better high for strike one.
- 1:46:19One strike on Oday.
- 1:46:22Oday batting for tech call.
- 1:46:24Here's the pitch.
- 1:46:25And it is strike two.
- 1:46:27While also I found a high to play broad to knee.
- 1:46:30Strike two on Oday.
- 1:46:33Two outs.
- 1:46:35And it is a foul.
- 1:46:37He's won about once.
- 1:46:38Bowled about in the right field line over to the white stock dugout.
- 1:46:43Maybe in the cutout two strikes on Oday.
- 1:46:48Batting for carbon.
- 1:46:49The last half of the night,
- 1:46:50the white stock leaving five to nothing.
- 1:46:52Stand on third base.
- 1:46:54Johnny Gilles on third base.
- 1:46:55Ren Kennedy winding up.
- 1:46:57Here's the pitch.
- 1:46:58And it's right down the left field line.
- 1:47:01Give me a nice coming in to pick it up.
- 1:47:03The plan thrown in first.
- 1:47:05Bumble it.
- 1:47:08Open error on Jimmy Dive.
- 1:47:10Third base, the white stock.
- 1:47:12And that's what Oday on third base.
- 1:47:14And it's fourth.
- 1:47:16Johnny Gilles on third.
- 1:47:18Johnny Gilles on third.
- 1:47:20Oday makes first base on Mr. Dike Harris.
- 1:47:26As man on first.
- 1:47:28Two men out.
- 1:47:29First pitch to Odie Glam.
- 1:47:31He is lay and in five for ball one.
- 1:47:34Ball one on Odie Glam.
- 1:47:36Man on first base.
- 1:47:37Two men out.
- 1:47:38One run home.
- 1:47:39Four, five to one of David White.
- 1:47:41Here's the pitch.
- 1:47:42The last one.
- 1:47:43The higher five into left field.
- 1:47:46Red flag just coming in.
- 1:47:47Thanks to Katz.
- 1:47:48He will turn out.
- 1:47:50And the white stock wins.
- 1:47:52The last four hours.
- 1:47:54Five to one.
- 1:47:55The last inning.
- 1:47:57The last half of the ninth inning.
- 1:47:59One run.
- 1:48:00One hit.
- 1:48:02And one error.
- 1:48:04The white stock won.
- 1:48:06The last four hours.
- 1:48:07The last five to one.
- 1:48:10Not the last four.
- 1:48:11Ah.
- 1:48:12The last two weekend.
- 1:48:13Down the plate.
- 1:48:14The last seven to nine.
- 1:48:15Hans overview.

- 1:48:40The White Sox and the Cups will continue the city series to determine the Chicago
- 1:48:45Championship tomorrow afternoon from the Mississippi Park. The game is 4-4-2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon.
- 1:48:51That will be played in the South Side Park with the White Sox for home team
- 1:48:56with competition down there. We'll find out how the outcome of that game will be tomorrow afternoon.
- 1:49:00Once again, to the C-4 of the Sox, they have a mistake with the pole for the jam.

- 1:49:16To the Cups, 1 run, 5 hits, and 1 error.
- 1:49:22The time of the game this afternoon was an hour, 1 hour and 37 minutes.
- 1:49:29That can go to the afternoon, 4 game ladies and gentlemen. So this is the start of our speaking
- 1:49:34and on behalf of George Watson and George, we take you good afternoon and return to the studio.
- 1:49:41The game makers on Cornflake, Steve Sinclair, Ben Halvot, have been constantly and good people to come to Cornflake.
- 1:49:53You're joining with over 13 million people in their enjoyment of Kellogg's Cornflake.
- 1:49:59But leadership is a great source of pride for the Kellogg company.
- 1:50:02And each year at this time, when everyone is looking ahead, they again,
- 1:50:06themselves, that Kellogg's Cornflake shall continue to be today's big fan.
- 1:50:12Some morning soon, try Kellogg's Cornflake that take Europe as the world's largest record-staker.
- 1:50:18Kellogg's Cornflake, made and guaranteed by the Kellogg company of Saddle Creek, Michigan.
- 1:50:24And now, here's Halvot. Good evening ladies and gentlemen.
- 1:50:28Well, we got our city series underway today, didn't we?
- 1:50:31And the White Stock fans are very happy tonight because with Vern Kennedy pitching great ball,
- 1:50:37the White Stock beat the Cups 5-1.
- 1:50:39They made 5 runs, 6 hits, 1 error, which of 1 run, 4 hits, 1 error.
- 1:50:45The battery for the White Stock is Kennedy and Sewell with a couple of leads, Carlton and Hartnag.
- 1:50:52Down in New York, however, the second World Series game is postponed on account of wind,
- 1:50:57and bad weather, and they hope to resume down there tomorrow.
- 1:51:00Now, before I go into a little chat about things, of course you might be interested in knowing along with the other people,
- 1:51:05that's on Monday evening, we're going to name the ball player that won that big on the accident.
- 1:51:12On the evening, and this show has broadcast, they're going to have that.
- 1:51:17And we hope to announce the main prize winners.
- 1:51:20Well, they'll also be announced next week. We've got to try to announce them on Monday night too.
- 1:51:25But whether we can or not is another question. That might be a couple of days after that because everybody's getting a chance.
- 1:51:30But people might be interested in knowing that every single person who voted in this contest is going to receive by mail
- 1:51:38a complete list of all the prize winners. So there won't be any doubt about it.
- 1:51:42But of course we'll announce them first on this program.
- 1:51:45But the winner, the player, winning the sedan will be announced Monday night.
- 1:51:50The fan winning the sedan and the other main prizes will come a little bit later.
- 1:51:54How about that? Do you think it's going to wait that long?
- 1:51:56I think so, Al. But we've been waiting. It'll awfully act as we're less than two.
- 1:52:00Before I get into the City Series discussion,
- 1:52:04the DNA in today's game of the World Series may be just the thing the Giants have needed.
- 1:52:09No Hubble pitched the game that was expected yesterday and finished just three.
- 1:52:14The Yankees look rather tame against Hubble. That doesn't mean that he can tame them every time he walks off.
- 1:52:19But he has a very good chance of doing just about that because right at the present time Hubble is by far the greatest pitcher in baseball today.
- 1:52:27By losing out of today's game and having to wait over the greatest second game of the series,
- 1:52:32it means that Hubble can come back in the third game of the series with two full days of rest.
- 1:52:37The third game was played on Saturday in that case instead of on Friday.
- 1:52:41And with those two days back of him, Hubble should be ready to go right in again.
- 1:52:45Now of course the Schumacher should stop the Yankee tomorrow and give the Giants a two to nothing lead.
- 1:52:50In games they might decide to rest, have one more day and pitch him in the fourth game.
- 1:52:55But I don't know, unless the Giants do have that edge, even if they do,
- 1:52:59I'm almost sure that Hubs is going to come back to rest in the third game.
- 1:53:02Then he'll be ready for a sixth game with two more days of rest if the sixth game is the deciding game of the series.
- 1:53:09But if the sixth game isn't the deciding game, then he can take three full days of rest and be ready for that number seven.
- 1:53:16Boy, if you know what that means, to be able to have that kind of a pitch, you're ready to win there three times in a seven game series.
- 1:53:23For instance, one other day of rain would just about make it too bad because if Hubble can deliver three games,
- 1:53:29they might be able to take one other up between the rest of them and the Yankees, all in all, might have such a sub-time that it'd be just too bad.
- 1:53:36However, don't forget, the Yankee showing yesterday isn't the showing that they're allowed to make it almost any time during the rest of the series.
- 1:53:44For the simple reason that they have too much power and too much experience.
- 1:53:48The Yankee 35 series, the one that you won that first game and also the fifth.
- 1:53:53If there's been a day of rain in there, you might have come back in the fourth game and turned the tide of battle because the series was very close to the glove.
- 1:54:00So you can't tell the day like today may be the big break, the turning point in the entire series.
- 1:54:07Now for that city series game here in Chicago, many people weren't able to see it.
- 1:54:11And for that reason, I think I'll run right through the line-ups and what happened in the game so that the fans right now will know play by play with some comment just what it was.
- 1:54:20The line-up for this ball game for the White Stocks, we had Radcliffe and Lett, Rosenball Center, Hans Wright, Renoura first, Appling short, Hayes second, Dike's third, Sewell-Catching, Kennedy-Pitches.
- 1:54:35For the Cubs-Galand Center, Gevorettah first, Herman second, Gemery Wright, Hartz-Serd, Hartnett-Shawking, Yale-Lepth, Jurgers-Short and Glee, Pitching.
- 1:54:47The umpires were far behind the plate, Armsy at first, Stewart at second, and McGowan at third.
- 1:54:56Incidentally, it was a day without a squaw. Everybody was happy and the umpires had to call some very close ones at the plate,
- 1:55:02although not more than one or two close ones on the pages, and it was well conducted in a very bad time.
- 1:55:09In the first inning, Radcliffe went out, Gevorettah unassisted on the going after the first pitch.
- 1:55:14Rosenball was called out on strike and half bounced out by way of Jurgers.
- 1:55:19In the first half of the first inning, the landfly to Rosenball, Gevorettah fly to Radcliffe, Herman bounced out to Jimmy Dike.
- 1:55:27Nothing across in both those, no runs, no hits, no errors, nobody left on date.
- 1:55:32Second inning was the same way as far as that's concerned.
- 1:55:35Vanuera hit a long fly to Finnerfield, which was pulled in by the land, Affling, fly to Gemery,
- 1:55:42and Hayes also sent a rather ordinary fly out to Gemery for the third out.
- 1:55:46In the second half of the second inning, Gemery hit a short fly back at second base, which Jackie Hayes went back to pull down.
- 1:55:52The first inning had bounced out by way of the pitcher, and Hardnett hit a line drive to right field, but it was easy as it turned out for Mule Haak.
- 1:55:59The third inning for the White Shots saw the first hit of the game.
- 1:56:02Dike, the first man up, took a strike at the first pitch, and lined it sharply into right field for a base hit.
- 1:56:07Two while over hit one right back at Lee, who made a one-handed stab at the ball on the hop with his glove man.
- 1:56:12Two to Jurgers at second, and the relay throw to Kaverada turned into double play.
- 1:56:16Kennedy then bounced out by way of Haak, and it was no run, one hit in the first half of the third inning.
- 1:56:22In the coming half of the third inning, Gio hit a throw-bounder down the third base line, and it stopped the head and the spot tipped about a third of the way down there.
- 1:56:30Too far in for Dike to get. Kennedy went over, and on that rather wobbly knee that he had trouble with all through the last few weeks,
- 1:56:37and the soft serve, the serve was in marvelous condition considering the rain, but it was a little soft.
- 1:56:42He couldn't get a hold of that ball in time to throw the first hit, but the cup was the first hit.
- 1:56:46Jurgers then struck out. Lee got a hold of one pretty good, but Rosenthal dashed into left center to make the catch,
- 1:56:53and the land lost, but with runners on first and second, and two outs, Kaverada hit a short fly into left field, which was easy for Appling.
- 1:57:01No runs, one hit, and two men left on base.
- 1:57:03Fourth inning for the White Dot, Radley bounced off, also towards first base again, and was out when Kaverada got the ball and threw the lead cover.
- 1:57:11Rosenthal single to right, House Force, Golden ball, and Burnola force, the hot play going second to short, and the Burnola play just the opposite.
- 1:57:20And the cover half after the shot had no runs, one hit, and one left set happening.
- 1:57:25Simmons popped out to Jackie Hays, then when he flyed out to Rosenthal, I'd walk, but Hartnett was thrown out by Hays.
- 1:57:33No runs, no hits, and one left.
- 1:57:35Fifth inning was the beginning, and there was a bad break in the inning, although the way it turned out, it wouldn't have made any difference the way Kennedy was pitching that ball game.
- 1:57:43Appling opened with a walk, and Hays lined the first pitch into left field for a base hit, Appling stopping at second, then Jackie Hays,
- 1:57:50going just as he was, a lot of part of the team, and making those tough base hits.
- 1:57:54Sikes after missing one effort to front, Sids lay down in front towards first base, Kaverada came in and running almost into the run and grabbed the ball.
- 1:58:02I seemed upsetting for a moment because he hesitated, and then when he did throw the first,
- 1:58:06and then already there and making a good target for him, instead of throwing the ball just to the left of the runner and getting it to Herman,
- 1:58:12or even throwing it over his shoulder, he hit Sikes in the elbow, the ball came into center field, and while it was a sacrifice, it also was an error.
- 1:58:20One run scored, and the other runners went to second and third.
- 1:58:23Sturl was walked down to the surface to spill the bases, and Kennedy came to bat, and the infield played halfway instead of all the way in,
- 1:58:29playing for the double play and reasonably sure of getting it, there are hoping reasons to hope for it.
- 1:58:34But Kennedy topped one, and they went so slowly towards Jurgis that by the time Bill dashed in to grab it,
- 1:58:39he didn't have a chance to make a play at the plate, and had to throw the man out of first allowing another run to score.
- 1:58:44That sets the stage for that grand little fellow that's caused so much excitement all year.
- 1:58:48Rip Ratcliffe, who lined one into the right field, feet for a home run.
- 1:58:52It was not an easy out like he was the first two times, but it was a home run all the way, scoring Dyches and Sula ahead of him,
- 1:58:58and that was the ball game.
- 1:59:00Dogen Fallon, half-foot out, with five runs, two hits, and one error.
- 1:59:04Come half, he'll fly it out to short, Jurgis is out, pitch it to first, Lillard batted for Lee and Watt.
- 1:59:09The landline to single to right center, Lillard going to third, and Cavalry had a slide out to the cage for the third out.
- 1:59:17No runs, one hit and two men left on base.
- 1:59:19Stick to the right shot, Carlton went in to pitch for the Cubs, and the Vanuara Watt.
- 1:59:24Hardnett called for a pitch out on hit and run, as Appling tore for, came to play together, and Vanuara tore for second,
- 1:59:31and Vanuara was out easily on the throw to Jurgis.
- 1:59:33Appling then came through with a single past second base, and just to show that it could be done, he stole second.
- 1:59:40A's was then called out on strikes, and Dyches struck out, which meant the Cowboys really took things in his own hands.
- 1:59:46No runs, one hit, one man left on base.
- 1:59:48Stick to the right for the Cubs, Silly Herman opens with a walk.
- 1:59:51A Demery four, Sherman from Vanuara to Appling.
- 1:59:55Hack then singles to left, Demery stopping at second.
- 1:59:58Hardnett followed out to Vanuara, and Gil, hitting a ball pretty hard, hit it right into Appling's hands for the third out.
- 2:00:03No runs, one hit, two men left.
- 2:00:05Devon's innings for the White Sox, two fly to right, Kennedy was out short to first, and Radcliffe fly to left.
- 2:00:11Devon's innings for the Cubs, Appling made a nice pick up, while Jurgis' subbounder near second, and threw him out,
- 2:00:17and Carlton's left to left, and Gillan struck out. No runs.
- 2:00:21A's innings for the White Sox, Rose and Paul hit a little loopy fly to left,
- 2:00:25but Gil slipped coming into fielded and a fell for a two base hit.
- 2:00:28Then again Carlton got checked, A's was called out on strikes, Vanuara struck out, Appling walked,
- 2:00:34but Hayes lined one right into Billy Herman's hands for a hard hit ball, but an easy out, no runs, one hit.
- 2:00:40A's innings for the Cubs, Cavalry out of line to right, Herman was out second to first, Demery walked,
- 2:00:45Hayes also threw out, and no runs.
- 2:00:48A's innings for the White Sox, Dyches struck out, two will fly to center, and Kennedy struck out.
- 2:00:53A's innings for the Cubs, Hardnett followed up to catcher, they really had to get him stopped there.
- 2:00:57Gill doubled the right, Jurgis hit a long fly to right center, which was gathered in by Haas, Gill going to third after catch.
- 2:01:04Well, Bayes added for Carlton, hit a slow roller down the third base line.
- 2:01:08Dyches came in, tried to field it to his right, so it was in better position to throw, the ball took a low enough,
- 2:01:13and all Jim could do was knock it down, he was charged with an error, and the Cubs only run scores.
- 2:01:18And then Gillan ended it with a fly to short left, which Appling was best to get.
- 2:01:22One run, one hit, one error, and one man left on base.
- 2:01:25They hit the total, the White Sox got five runs, picked it one error and four left,
- 2:01:29he cut one run, four hits, one error, and nine men left on base.
- 2:01:34They hit, off Kennedy, four and nine innings.
- 2:01:37Off Lee, four and five innings, off Carlton, two and four innings.
- 2:01:41Struck out by Kennedy, two by Lee, one, and by Carlton, six.
- 2:01:47He really went in there and breezed and passed the ball.
- 2:01:49Well, bases on balls, off Kennedy, five, off Lee, two, and off Carlton, two.
- 2:01:54Two base hit, Rosy, and Gill.
- 2:01:57Home runs, Radkiff, runs out again, Radkiff, three, Kennedy, one.
- 2:02:02Burned runs, off Lee, four.
- 2:02:05Winning pitcher, Kennedy, losing pitcher, Lee.
- 2:02:08Time of the game was one hour and 37 minutes.
- 2:02:13The batting averages tonight after the opening game,
- 2:02:16these Rosenthal, half-ling, leading the shot-slip with a percentage of 500 feet.
- 2:02:25And followed by Dijkers, 3-30 feet, and Radkiff and Hayes, 2-50 feet.
