- 0:00Alright folks the final countdown begins. Okay, the trade deadline is not even right around the corner
- 0:07It's on our street and we have a lot to talk about with it
- 0:11Okay, as well as last night's game between the Texas and the Jets
- 0:15We might there might be some red flags that are starting to pop up with a certain quarterback that we need to talk about
- 0:21Okay, as well as a
- 0:23controversial topic that needs to be addressed with all the you know conundrum that is going on with this Anthony
- 0:29Richardson
- 0:31Situation which is why aren't quarterbacks not being allowed to develop?
- 0:36I think it is a topic that you know for quite a while
- 0:40We've probably put off and I think this is probably the perfect opportunity to talk about this
- 0:45Okay, we're gonna try to keep this thing light and right. Okay, all of this in more. Okay on the
- 0:5346th episode, that's right 46. We are not too far away from being 50 episode cast game
- 0:59Okay, 46 podcast. I am your host with the most just know this
- 1:05I'm gonna drop this junkie bomb for you right now to
- 1:08Two big major trades are going to happen before the trade that line you heard it here first on the football junkies podcast
- 1:14I am your host your GM who currently is not on the team right now, but don't you worry about that?
- 1:21Okay, I'm all these things and more. Okay. I'm your chief
- 1:25Bag road dominance. Okay. I'm your chief
- 1:27Meteorologist for the bag. Okay. I am all these things and more but best believe the most important title that you must know
- 1:35And remember is I'm your host kale. You already know what I'm getting ready to say. Okay, so guess what?
- 1:42Now you're probably driving. You're probably cleaning. You're probably doing something, but guess what?
- 1:46Well, if you're driving keep on driving. I don't just just just keep on driving. Okay focus on the road
- 1:52But for everybody else guess what?
- 1:54Stop what you're doing and on three one two three. Let's lock in
- 1:59All right folks, let's get into the meat and potatoes of everything that is going on in the
- 2:29League right now and
- 2:31Everyone is talking about the trade deadline now me personally you would have thought that you know
- 2:36We would have had some more trades, you know popping up very small trades popping up at this point
- 2:41But you know, I guess not I guess everybody is waiting till after the slate of games that are gonna happen on Sunday
- 2:47well, hopefully that is the case because
- 2:51Yeah, so far it really hasn't been a whole lot of movement
- 2:53I mean sure you've had Josh Uche being traded and dee-hop getting traded and cam Robbins and getting traded
- 3:00But it's like we need more. Okay. There's a whole bunch of speculation. There's a whole bunch of rumors and this and that and whatnot
- 3:06I need to hear something. I need to see something because why that allows me to give the fix that you guys love and or need
- 3:15Okay, so will you know what do we really want to talk about? Let's talk about the game first
- 3:19Let's talk about last night and then we'll go into everything else again. I'm letting you guys know right now
- 3:25This episode is going to be fairly light. Okay, it is going to be light. I'm just letting you guys know now
- 3:34last night's game it was
- 3:37Anybody's game the jets needed this more than the text simply because the jets have been on a dry spell for the for the last few games
- 3:45Now and they needed to get into the wind column and they finally were able to do it
- 3:49So let's just get into the stats first and then we'll dive into all the deep analysis and all those different types of things
- 3:56So CJ strout was 11 for 30 191 passing yards
- 4:016.4 yards per attempt in a 36.7 completion percenters. Okay, and a 46.7
- 4:08Quarterback pressure rate. Okay now remember that number and that metric. Okay, I'm gonna go deep into that
- 4:14Okay, Joe mixin 24 attempts for 106 rushing yards 4.4 yards per carry one touchdown three rushes of 10 plus yards or more
- 4:22Okay, Tink Dell nine targets for six receptions
- 4:26126 receiving yards 21 receiving yards per reception. Okay, Aaron Rogers 22 for 32
- 4:33211 passing yards three touchdowns 6.6 yards per attempt a
- 4:3768.8 completion percentage in a
- 4:3926.5 quarterback pressure rate. Okay, Garrett Wilson 10 targets for nine receptions 90 receiving yards two touchdowns and
- 4:4810 receiving yards per reception breeze hall 15 attempts for 74 rushing yards
- 4:534.9 yards per carry and three rushes of 10 plus yards or more now when we look at last night's game, you know, I
- 5:00Definitely thought that the Texans were definitely going to win simply because they were better equipped to beat the jets on both sides of the ball
- 5:08Okay, the offense is
- 5:10Playing very well their run game is very solid and that defense sharks in the water. Okay, and clearly
- 5:19That's not, you know, that's not what happened now
- 5:21Can we say, you know, maybe this was just a bad game for CJ Stroud?
- 5:25Yes, you probably could could allude at that
- 5:28But you know, I think something that that definitely needs to be talked about is, you know
- 5:32This offensive line didn't didn't look that good last night. The pass protection was not good and in granted
- 5:39The jets were going after CJ Stroud every single time he was hiking that ball
- 5:45They were going after him and most of times Quentin Williams was leading the charge. Okay him matching up with whoever that guard was
- 5:55barbecue barbecue chicken alert
- 5:57barbecue chicken alert, okay
- 5:59He just kept on getting through every single time every single time putting CJ Stroud on the ground put him in the ground put him in the ground
- 6:06And then you have a son reddit doing his thing and then you have Solomon Thomas doing his thing Michael Clemens doing his thing
- 6:12You had that defensive line was eating glass night. They were creating pressure pressure that I think CJ Stroud
- 6:21Could not handle and in doing so it costed them the game
- 6:25Because when we really look at things when you look at people like DJ Reed that that's doing his job
- 6:31by the way, DJ Reed is
- 6:33Definitely a sleeper of a cornerback that not a lot of people talk about he has shown a lot and man
- 6:40Oh man, if he becomes a free agent next year, I will love for the Steelers to get him
- 6:44But don't like his about that. Okay, I get back into the game. So this is what I will say
- 6:49It's a great win for the Jets because this puts them back in the winning column. They needed this win to
- 6:55Silence the naysayers the haters all of the doubters all of the people that said their season was over
- 7:03Okay, but at the same time this raises questions for the Texans because you know, do you think they should probably go after?
- 7:12You know an interior offensive linemen because again the interior offensive line was getting beat up
- 7:17They were getting beat up or four quarters straight and there was nothing they can do about now the secondary the secondary was doing their thing
- 7:26You know, they was holding their own against people like Devontae Adams and Garrett Wilson and company, but again that that line
- 7:34that line
- 7:36It just wasn't doing his job
- 7:38I don't know if they were still in Houston or what but they did not do well and it costed them the game
- 7:46That's just what it is now. This is a much needed win for Jeff Albrecht
- 7:50Just as much as a much needed win for Aaron Rogers
- 7:53Now the question is this can they continue to stack up more wins and could they possibly turn their season around?
- 8:01The answer is yes and the reason why I say that is because when you look at the the remaining part of their schedule
- 8:08Their schedule, it's not super difficult, but they could win, right?
- 8:13So their next opponent the card goes then after that then it's the Colts and then they're on a buy
- 8:19They have a late buy which late buys come in the clutch sometimes because that allows them to rest
- 8:27recover recuperate and
- 8:29Sort of like in the thick of things of the season because that's when you're really gonna need some rest because you're gonna be going through a
- 8:36Gondola you're gonna be most likely facing, you know at least two of your division rivals where that be in the middle part or
- 8:45You know the or the last two games of the season, right?
- 8:48So after their buy they go begin Seattle Miami
- 8:52Jacksonville the Rams
- 8:54Buffalo and then Miami again if we're being real here
- 8:59The toughest opponent that they will probably have to go up against is Buffalo Buffalo in in in Indianapolis
- 9:06Those are gonna be the toughest teams that the Jets are gonna really have to go after
- 9:11Well, maybe you could probably throw in Seattle as well
- 9:15Everybody else it's fair game if we're being real here everything everything else is fair game the Colts
- 9:21That's fair game at this point the Jaguars
- 9:24That's fair game a lot of these a lot of these teams are in situations where they're about to you know
- 9:32Either make a decision where they're either about to tank prepare themselves for next year or they're gonna try to see
- 9:38You know what what they can do with the remaining part of the season now when we shift things over to the Texans though
- 9:46The Texan schedule is a little bit difficult
- 9:50The only reason why I say that's because next week they have to go up against Detroit
- 9:56Then Dallas then Tennessee then Jacksonville then they're on their buy, which is even later. Okay week 14. They come back
- 10:05Face Miami then Kansas City then Baltimore then Tennessee if we're being real here
- 10:12The teams that they could probably beat is Dallas no disrespect to the Cowboys fans
- 10:17Tennessee
- 10:19Jacksonville and Tennessee again
- 10:22That's it. Those are only games that they could probably like you know really do their thing really impose their will
- 10:30But Kansas City late into the season. Oh, that's gonna be a that's gonna be a shootout
- 10:35That's gonna be a bar fight going up against Baltimore
- 10:39That's gonna be a bar fight in Detroit Detroit ain't no slouch either. So again
- 10:44This is we are hitting that part of the season
- 10:47I will continue to emphasize this and I will continue to say it until I can not say it anymore
- 10:52we are entering that part of the season where every game matters and
- 10:58especially your division rival games because they can be the equalizer and
- 11:04Either pushing you up for seed in the playoffs or put you down in the seed to where you're having to go
- 11:10Begins a tougher opponent that's on a hot streak and you don't want that so again
- 11:16this is
- 11:18It's a loss
- 11:19But at the same time this could be a loss for the Texas that's needed to get them
- 11:24refocused
- 11:25Relocked in and prepare themselves for you know for the remaining part of the season now the question is this
- 11:32With Stefan Diggs being out for the season
- 11:34Should the Texas probably go after a receiver as well, you know
- 11:40I I think it's something that they would have to probably consider at this point because
- 11:45Joe mixing, you know, he was doing his thing when Joe mixing was getting the ball
- 11:50He was doing his thing. They were getting first downs. They were extending, you know extending the field and whatnot, but again
- 11:58CJ Stroud just did not look like himself last night
- 12:01Some of the throws some of those routine throws. He just wasn't not making and you know, he was he was getting brute
- 12:09He was gonna beat up. He was gonna beat up pretty bad last night
- 12:12So hopefully, you know, he can have a turnaround game and you know silence a lot of the
- 12:17Critics and whatnot that are saying he's going through a sophomore slump and all those different types of things now
- 12:23Let's go into something that is a little bit more controversial
- 12:25That I think definitely needs to be addressed at this point with everything that is going on with Anthony Richardson
- 12:31and that is the lack of quarterback development and the lack of patience that is given to a lot of these
- 12:40Quarterbacks first, you know, I was definitely one of those people that was on the fence about this and I was like, you know
- 12:47What maybe he was tired. Maybe he just didn't like really, you know, maybe he just needed to catch his breath or something
- 12:53but it's like
- 12:54Sometimes when we say things publicly, they come back to haunt us, right?
- 12:59And there was a there was a there was a podcast that he was on
- 13:03I forgot what the podcast is my apologies to them. No disrespect to them and he basically said, you know
- 13:09Then the fell is easy. It's not really that hard and
- 13:13You know, that's that
- 13:16That's false. That's false my friend. That is very false
- 13:19Because when we look at things if the NFL was so easy, there wouldn't be a whole bunch of people fighting for roster spots
- 13:28There wouldn't be a whole bunch of people that are settling for being on the practice squad for two or three years and
- 13:34Never get a real opportunity to have a starting role
- 13:39Let's be real here. Let's really be honest here because
- 13:42You know, when you say things like that and then you come out publicly and then you say, yeah, man
- 13:48I was I was just tired. They're gonna eat you up, man
- 13:52they're gonna they are going to get you and
- 13:55You know, I understand the the Colts had had to make a decision because it probably did
- 14:01Create some friction in the locker room, but at the same time
- 14:05You knew what you were getting when you drafted Anthony Richardson
- 14:10You knew that you were getting somebody that did not have a whole lot of playing experience
- 14:15You know that he was a late bloomer. You knew that so if you knew that he was a late bloomer
- 14:21Why in the world did you commit to drafting him that high?
- 14:27Why because again a lot of times
- 14:31we as
- 14:33Fans and even people probably in front offices. We look at the ooze and eyes of various players
- 14:40Oh, they can throw the ball this far. Oh, they're super athletic. Oh, they're super fast. Oh, they're they're super strong
- 14:47all those all those different intangibles but not at the
- 14:51experience or the the
- 14:54Baggage or the time it's going to take in order to bring the best out of them
- 15:00That is why a lot of times people do not per you know progress
- 15:04Well when it comes to that transition from college to the pros we see it all the time a lot of those first round picks don't hit and
- 15:15By by year three. They're already being floated around for either being traded or being cut
- 15:21Just because they haven't been able to really show anything because people give up on them so quickly and in some ways
- 15:28It's like damaged goods, right?
- 15:31You get something and you know, you realize that it's a little bit damaged and you just get rid of it, right?
- 15:39Better yet
- 15:41Imagine yourself being a kid and you're going past a toy store and you see the toy store that you know and that you love it
- 15:50Before I go any further this probably shows you how old I am because you don't even have toy
- 15:54Toy stores anymore, but moving forward
- 15:57But imagine you're going past a toy store and there's a particular store
- 16:02There's a particular toy that you really like and it's in front. It's in the front part of the store
- 16:07I'm talking about they got it going off. You got it doing its thing and whatnot
- 16:12And then they got a big old sign over it come get this toy now
- 16:16That's what you're going to do. You're going to be interested in it
- 16:19You're going to see it before everybody else sees it before your parents see it before your other siblings see it
- 16:25All those different types of things and guess what you're going to get pulled into it
- 16:29And then you're gonna want to feel it you're gonna want to experience it and before you know it guess what?
- 16:34you're gonna want that toy and
- 16:36That is exactly what happens a lot of times when these quarterbacks are drafted into the first round you like the ooze and
- 16:44Oz you like the things that they do
- 16:47But you don't recognize
- 16:49The toll and the amount of resources that I have to allocate in order to bring forth their best potential and their best version of
- 16:58Themselves because the fact of the matter is when Bryce young was in Alabama and he was doing his thing
- 17:04Oh my god, there was a whole bunch of people saying oh, he's a franchise guy
- 17:09He's gonna change a franchise
- 17:11Look at look at you know the way that he runs look look at the arm
- 17:15You know that that big throw that he made all those different types of things
- 17:18But now that he's been in the league. Oh, I keep on hearing oh, he's washed. Oh, he can't play the NFL
- 17:24We can't fit in the league now. They got get him out of here. They got to do something with him
- 17:29Where where was this when he was in Alabama? Where was this? Where was this?
- 17:34I didn't see it
- 17:35I didn't see a whole lot of people identifying the various red flags and you know the things that he may have to
- 17:41Overcome when he comes into the league. I didn't see that all I saw was a whole bunch of people praising
- 17:46He has a big arm. He's athletic
- 17:49He can roll out the pocket and he can do this and he can do that. That's not what it is
- 17:55Okay, and Mel Kuiper said this best and you know, this is a pretty long quote
- 18:00But you know, we are going to get through it. Okay. He said this on the Chris Canty
- 18:06Podcast is on ESP and shout out to Chris Canty. So this is what he says. Okay, and I quote develop doesn't exist
- 18:14They don't develop quarterbacks anymore. They force feed them. They expect them to be great
- 18:19They don't like them to work through struggles
- 18:22Struggles are not tolerating anymore from a young quarterback bad reads and accurate throws
- 18:28Interceptions mistakes aren't allowed anymore. You're expected to play at a seven-year level when you're a rookie
- 18:35second-year quarterback the development
- 18:38Okay, this is important the development the growth of a quarterback to work through make progress
- 18:43You're not allowed to do that anymore. You're not allowed to because mentally and physically you're destroyed
- 18:50You're destroyed by getting beat up because you're out
- 18:53Maybe some of these quarterbacks behind a bad offensive line or they're getting beat up mentally by everybody
- 19:00Media fans everybody saying you stink. You shouldn't you shouldn't have drafted this guy
- 19:04Let's draft this guy this year get him out of here
- 19:07It wasn't like that back in the day and now we're chewing them up and spinning them out early
- 19:12So the development of a quarterback doesn't exist
- 19:15That's why I get down to who needs to go back
- 19:18Gives as much time in college as you're allowed to get get as many starts in college as possible
- 19:24Eli did it Peyton did it others have done it go back and get those extra dozen
- 19:30Extra doesn't excuse me extra dozen plus starts and that'll help you deal with the scrutiny and the expectations
- 19:37That are there for a rookie second-year quarterback in the national football league now
- 19:42He is right
- 19:44He is right for once there is something that I can agree with on Mel Kuiper
- 19:49Which is a lot of quarterbacks now
- 19:52Do not have a whole lot of playing starts and do not have a lot of experience under their belt
- 19:57We see on a on a yearly basis at least three three quarterbacks that are drafted in the first round
- 20:05They do not succeed now
- 20:08Some of that is because of the situation that they are you know put into some of that is because of a
- 20:14Lack of attention that the front office, you know gives them some of that is because of you know
- 20:19Them not having the right coaches and whatnot, but a lot of times they get thrown away like what damaged goods
- 20:27Case in point Sam Darnall and the Jets got rid of Sam Darnall
- 20:30Everyone was labeling Sam Darnall as a bus everyone saying he can't be a starting quarterback in the national football league
- 20:38He can't do it. He can't do the basic necessities to be a quarterback and then guess what?
- 20:44He went through a little bit of a little bit of you know turbulence went to the Panthers
- 20:49Okay, cool, then work out the best then he goes to the 49ers
- 20:54Spends a year under there. Okay, cool goes to the Vikings
- 20:58Has an opportunity to compete with JJ McCarthy. Unfortunately, JJ McCarthy gets hurt
- 21:03He becomes a starting quarterback and now we are seeing the best version of Sam Darnall that we have ever seen
- 21:10This was the version of Sam Darnall that everyone thought that that the Jets were going to get
- 21:16But a lot of times when you are put into bad situations
- 21:21Like a lot of these quarterbacks are
- 21:23The expectation is you are the game changer. You are the person that changes everything that creates a culture and
- 21:31Exceeds all expectations when it's like no you can't do it and a lot of times
- 21:35It's even more difficult for quarterbacks who are who are coming from well not coming from but who are coming after a
- 21:44Legendary franchise quarterback is
- 21:46Instantly what's going to happen is there's going to be a comparison
- 21:49Everything that that quarterback does in the first year of their career
- 21:54They're always going to compare it to the legendary quarterback
- 21:56And if they do not hit certain thresholds or if they do not do certain things that that legendary quarterback did
- 22:03Guess what's going to happen? Oh, they're instantly going to throw them another bus
- 22:05They're gonna say get them out of here. We should have kept that legendary quarterback for one or two years
- 22:10I've seen it and it does not end well and a lot of times some people can persevere through it
- 22:16And you know they have successful careers and then there are then there are others who crack under it and they can't handle it, right?
- 22:23Case in point a lot of times when we look at quarterbacks
- 22:27They want to be put into stable organizations stable environments
- 22:33Because if you don't put them into stable environments guess what's going to happen
- 22:37You are not going to see the best out of them case in point
- 22:40Bryce him going to the Panthers that was probably the worst place that he could possibly go to because why you have a
- 22:48dysfunctional owner you have a dysfunctional front office that has not given you the
- 22:55The supporting cast that you need in order to be successful, right?
- 23:01Sir you got Xavier Leggett. Cool. He's a rookie, but you really don't have a good offensive line
- 23:08You have a running back, but you really don't use him as much because Trevor Hubbard is doing more than what he's doing
- 23:15You don't have a productive tight end
- 23:17You didn't have a defense so exactly how in the world can you expect them to be?
- 23:24What they were in college if you don't surround them with talent a
- 23:30lot of times
- 23:31quarterbacks are kicked to the curb because a
- 23:34lot of times GM's are in the mindset that you know
- 23:39College always produces at least three to five starting caliber quarterbacks a year and so some people they'll just say you know
- 23:47What we'll just chop it up to the game
- 23:48We realize that we messed up will try again and keep trying again and keep trying again and keep trying again
- 23:54Waiting to see for one quarterback to hit and by the time they do that they don't wasted years of
- 24:01Prime players careers we see it all the time and even then when we go back to to this Anthony Richardson situation
- 24:09You have to allow him to go through
- 24:12The the bumps and bruises that is to be a franchise caliber quarterback
- 24:18You're going to face backlash
- 24:20You're going to upset some people in your locker room in the front office in the organization of your team
- 24:26You're going to but guess what?
- 24:28This is how you learn this is how you become better
- 24:32This is how you grow and if you don't do it now guess what you'll never have a chance to do it
- 24:37But let's get into some some comparisons
- 24:40Okay, because I was able to do a comparison of three different quarterback classes. Okay, so we're going to do the quarterback class of
- 24:472023 with Anthony Richardson was was in we're going to do the
- 24:512004 quarterback draft class great a very great
- 24:55quarterback draft class and then we're going to do the
- 24:592018 quarterback draft class. Okay, so in 2023, right?
- 25:04Anthony Richardson had only started 13 games in college
- 25:0913 games Bryce young started 27 games in college CJ Stroud
- 25:16Started 25 games in college, right now. You're probably saying, you know
- 25:21You probably have to factor in COVID and those different types of things and you probably can you most likely gonna have to
- 25:28But the fact of the matter is
- 25:31Anthony Richardson has the least amount of college starts
- 25:35Then the other first round quarterbacks and both Bryce young and CJ Stroud
- 25:41That's not good. That's not good. I get it. Your draft stock may be high. I get it
- 25:48You know, you may see that you're being mocked super high and with you being mocked super high
- 25:53That means you make more money than everybody else. I get all that but there's at some point
- 25:58Sometimes it's just best to just spend that one more or two more years
- 26:03Just so you can get more starts because again
- 26:07the old saying goes
- 26:09Experience is his best teacher and how in the world can you be better equipped?
- 26:14better experience to go to the next level of
- 26:18Playing football if you don't have a whole lot of experience, right?
- 26:23That's like giving somebody who has no experience a
- 26:28Supervi a man and a manager job to
- 26:32Oversee, you know 30 people when they don't have no experience doing it. They're not gonna. They're not gonna succeed
- 26:38They're not it's instantly going to be a fail now when we look at the 2004 quarterback
- 26:46Draft class Eli Manning have 43 big Ben had 38 Philip Rivers had 49 college starts
- 26:5549
- 26:56now that
- 26:58Transitioned over to when they were drafted and they got into the league because a lot of the things
- 27:04That they saw and that they experienced in college. They can now take that with them, right?
- 27:10They were there wasn't a whole lot of
- 27:13Teaching that that these teams had to do for these quarterbacks because why they were seasoned
- 27:18They know what to do. They know different cadences formations all those different types of things
- 27:24Even then if you wanted to come back even a little bit more recent 2018
- 27:29Lamar had 38 college starts Josh Allen 27 Sam Donald 27 Baker Mayfield 48 Josh Rosen 30
- 27:39You're seeing a pattern here, right a lot of these quarterbacks are
- 27:45Prepared not only mentally, but they are prepared physically
- 27:49For the toll that is you know that is expected of them when they go into
- 27:54You know the NFL compared to Anthony Richardson who's only had 13 college stars and he's and he's young
- 28:02So he's still trying to understand all of these, you know all of these things now
- 28:08Compared to a lot of these quarterbacks who they've already gone through
- 28:12You know various different things and they know this and they know that and all those different types of things, right and
- 28:20You know when we look at it
- 28:22There is a lack of
- 28:25development
- 28:26Case in point the 49ers the 49ers when the when trade lands was coming out of North North Dakota State University
- 28:36Oh my god, they were head over heels for him. They moved
- 28:40All the way up they move past five spots
- 28:45to get trade lands and as soon as train lands got hurt and then once he started to
- 28:50Not really to to struggle a little bit and then you had various, you know people
- 28:57Various, you know hall of fame players they used to play for the 49ers like Joe Montana Steve Young
- 29:02Say certain things about trade lands. Oh, it was over
- 29:06That experiment was over. They shipped him. They shipped him off to Dallas
- 29:10Never to be seen from or heard from again. Now. He's a backup. I don't even know what I don't even win
- 29:15He'll get another opportunity to play again. That is just one of the just a few well not even few but many examples of
- 29:23Teams who just completely just give up on a quarterback and I get it
- 29:29You want you you want them to you know be the face of the franchise and you want them to win games and you're in the business
- 29:35To win games and I get all that I really do but I feel like we don't give quarterbacks
- 29:41Enough grace to go through, you know the bumps and bruises of being a franchise quarterback because a lot of times
- 29:48These quarterbacks are being thrusted into the leadership role
- 29:53You are now the face or one of the faces of this team, right?
- 29:58And so that is a lot to tack on for a rookie regardless of how old they are regardless of
- 30:04You know, whatever compliment accomplishments that they have
- 30:07That's a lot to take on right and even then this goes back to a stat that I pulled up
- 30:15In previous episodes of God, I think was the episode with the curse of the first
- 30:19But basically him bow if you don't know who him bow is he's one of the people for for ESPN for for get up
- 30:27He did he so he compiled some stats and so basically he found
- 30:32Basically 20 drafts spanning from 2000 to 2018, right and basically
- 30:39Here is the percentages of hit or miss rates based off of the position, right?
- 30:46quarterback quarterback
- 30:4926 hits
- 30:5130 misses a
- 30:5346% hit rate a
- 30:5646% hit rate
- 30:59That is not good
- 31:01That is not good and of that 46% you could probably
- 31:06Flex it a little bit simply because again
- 31:08It's also really based off of what situation that they are put into
- 31:13Because sometimes some quarterbacks are lucky enough to be drafted into a stable organization
- 31:19Like the Ravens like the 49ers like the Patriots
- 31:24Like the Steelers and whatnot
- 31:27stable organizations that are going to give them
- 31:30You know not only time but also going to try to surround them with weapons just to see okay
- 31:38What do we have in this quarterback, right?
- 31:41Perfect example, can you pick it?
- 31:43Can you pick it was supposed to be the you know the leader of the team?
- 31:48but because of his actions and not wanting to suit up
- 31:53You know to be the backup quarterback for Mason Rudolph that ruffled the feathers within the locker room and then
- 32:01To even put more fuel to this flame
- 32:06They tell him we're gonna bring in competition
- 32:09They told him that they told him that before they made any of the decisions that they made
- 32:13Prior to getting Russell Wilson and whatnot. They said we are going to bring in competition
- 32:18So we can try to bring the best out of you because we still believe in you and guess what he didn't like it and he left
- 32:25He wanted out because he couldn't handle it
- 32:29again
- 32:30quarterback
- 32:32It's not it's not what people think it you know what people think it is it really isn't if you are a quarterback next year and next year's draft
- 32:41You sort of have to consider. Hey, do I want to wait another year and you know build up more reps?
- 32:48And you know get myself better prepared or do I want to just say you know effort and then just go because when if you have that mindset
- 32:57Most likely you're going to be put into a crappy situation. You're gonna be put into a team that is
- 33:03Going through a rebuild that has lost a lot of their star players that has limited cap space and a dysfunctional front office and ownership
- 33:13That's what you're gonna walk into now to some people. They're probably say
- 33:17I know it'll straighten yourself out and in my second or third year
- 33:21It's no problem, but a lot of times it doesn't and a lot of times that carries that that carries with you
- 33:28You know at least the first half of your of your career
- 33:31And then by the second the second half of your career when you start making some real money
- 33:36you want to go into you want to go into a place that's stable that you don't have to worry about the owner looking over your shoulder or
- 33:42You know your your head coach being in the hot seat or you know your office of coordinator not being the best and whatnot
- 33:51Again, I get it. It's hard, but again, there are certain things
- 33:59Not even certain things, but we have to give quarterbacks time
- 34:04Not everybody grows the same some people are late bloomers and take a little bit longer to
- 34:10Really, you know bring out their best potential some people are a little bit early
- 34:14You know you just put them in and you know, they're guns blazing, you know the first game of their career
- 34:20Not everybody is the same and so, you know when you have that on top of
- 34:26Not surrounding them with the right weapons and the right offensive coordinator and putting them into the rights
- 34:33You know the right system to be successful if you don't do those small little things
- 34:38It's gonna have a major effect on the quarterback. It really is case in point
- 34:45Look at the Ravens the Ravens realize that okay
- 34:49We have this dual threat quarterback who can beat you with his legs as well as his arm
- 34:54We have to surround him with talent and what did they do?
- 34:59They started to
- 35:00Get him better receivers. They started to get him, you know a better offensive coordinator and what and now look it's paying off
- 35:07You have to invest into your quarterback like how you buy a house
- 35:12When you buy a house, you don't just buy a house and then you just don't put no furniture in it
- 35:17and you don't put no no good China and
- 35:20No good plates and spoons and you know knives and whatnot
- 35:25You don't put up no TVs no beds or anything like that. No, you got to put that stuff in there
- 35:30You got to make sure that the grass is cutting you got to invest into this thing because if you don't invest into it
- 35:36You're not gonna get anything out of it and that's what happens a lot of times with these quarterbacks
- 35:42They they throw them into crappy situations. Let's say okay fix it and a lot of times they can't it's not a fix it type of thing
- 35:49It's a thing where the front office has to realize. Okay, we need to rewrite this wrong right here
- 35:55We need to you know draft this player to fix this we need to you know
- 36:00Fix the offensive line or whatnot look at Andrew Luck
- 36:04Andrew Luck is a perfect example of what happens when the team and the organization
- 36:10Does not invest into the quarterback the right way
- 36:13They allowed Andrew Luck to get beaten up for a majority of his career
- 36:20And by the time that he was done taking all all that abuse he was done with it
- 36:26He had mentally checked out. He didn't want to do it anymore because why they took too long to invest
- 36:32Into protecting him and surrounding him with the right weapons
- 36:36It happens we see it more and more and more
- 36:41Even there even times where there are quarterbacks who don't want to listen who don't want to take the advice RG3 for example
- 36:48Kyle Shanahan and Mike Shanahan were telling him listen if you want to survive in this league
- 36:54You're gonna have to slide they brought in baseball players and experts to show RG3
- 37:01How to slide he didn't want to listen and guess what happened?
- 37:05Shortly after he didn't last that long in the league. So again moving forward. I think we
- 37:11We as fans have to be a little bit more grateful with these cornerbacks. Yes, it's not fun losing
- 37:18Yes, you want to have bragging rights when you go in the barbershop when you go to school when you go to work
- 37:24When you're spending time with your family, but again, they are human just as much as we are now
- 37:30I'm gonna end this episode with the trade talk because yes, we have to end it with trade talk because why I mean
- 37:37And we're only a few we're only a few days away, you know before the trade that that line is over
- 37:41So these are just a few names that I thought of you know, and they're probably they'll probably will be more and hopefully will
- 37:47Have a very active trade that line
- 37:49You know season so I have Bryce young Buddha Baker today. This white David got child Mike Williams
- 37:56Coral and Sutton Jacobi Mars Greg Newsome adori Jackson Darius Layton Mike Edwards and Zadaria Smith
- 38:02Now for Bryce young and Buddha Baker, I left them blank simply because I don't know
- 38:08Where exactly they would go. I really don't especially for safeties safeties are
- 38:14are very
- 38:16It's very rare to see a safety like really get you know traded to you know a better situation
- 38:24Even when you when you really break it down
- 38:27Where could someone like a Buddha Baker go?
- 38:29Because everybody else has a pretty good solid safety
- 38:33Honestly speaking here like where could you really go same thing for Bryce young?
- 38:37You wouldn't be the third string quarterback
- 38:39You probably be the fourth string quarterback or practice squad quarterback, right?
- 38:43Tredavious white me personally I would say either the chiefs or the commanders just because he is a veteran corner
- 38:50both of those teams are winning teams and
- 38:54You know, they would have him
- 38:56Probably unlimited reps. Honestly speaking here now
- 39:01Does does Tredavious white does he feel like he can still play?
- 39:04You know outside corner like how he used to who knows right?
- 39:09They even got you I would say 49ers Steelers and Ravens and the reason why I have those three teams is because all three of those teams
- 39:17You know probably need to add more depth at a defensive line, especially interior defensive line
- 39:23So, you know, you want to you want to try to?
- 39:27capitalize and reinforce that line because you're about to hit that point where the run game is going to be more
- 39:34You know more efficient is going to be used more
- 39:37You know in various offenses
- 39:39So you want to make sure that that line is not only creating pressure, but is limiting the run
- 39:45Okay, Mike Williams Texan Steelers 49ers and commanders the commanders do need another receiver
- 39:52The Steelers do need another receiver the 49ers definitely need another receiver and the Texans need another receiver
- 39:59Especially with Stefan Diggs, you know going down and especially for the for the 49ers with you know
- 40:05brand-new being out for the season so
- 40:09You know, could he possibly you know be moved soon?
- 40:12I really don't know
- 40:14Especially, you know with Alizarre going down last week and being and being put on IR not last week
- 40:20But yesterday and him being put on IR
- 40:24That you know shifts the focus of Mike Williams now being more involved and you know in the offense
- 40:30Same thing with Coral and Sutton Coral and Sutton is going to be looking for more for more money
- 40:35So, you know the Broncos are winning right now
- 40:38So I don't think the Broncos would want to give up, you know, Coral and Sutton if they do it would have to be something
- 40:44Significant I don't think it would have to be you know something like a 4-4-5 round pick like you would have to talk
- 40:49About almost maybe your first round pick for maybe Coral and Sutton. So Kobe Myers. That's very unique
- 40:55He's very unique simply because you know the Raiders
- 40:59I don't know if the Raiders will be willing to get rid of Jacobi Myers. I don't know and if they do the question is
- 41:08what would be the asking price for it because
- 41:11You can't demand more than what Devonte Adams, you know went for you can't simply because he still has a few years left on his deal
- 41:20He has a pretty fairly high cap hit. I think around 10 million if I'm not mistaken
- 41:25So, you know, you have all those different types of things Greg Newsom. That's a very unique one
- 41:30the commanders do need another corner and
- 41:33You know you you add a young feisty corner and Greg Newsom to that commander's defense. That's a problem
- 41:40That's a big problem. That is a very big problem same thing, you know with the Chiefs the Chiefs
- 41:46You know, they want to bolster up that defense a little bit more
- 41:49So, you know, what what better person than to do it with you know, Greg Newsom
- 41:54Same thing with the Dory Jackson. He's not really being utilized as much with that Giants defense
- 41:59So maybe it's time for him to you know to be put into a different situation
- 42:04Darius Layton, I don't I'm skeptical with Darius Layton simply because you know
- 42:11Are the Giants going to try to extend him before the season is over?
- 42:14Are they, you know, you know keeping him for the next quarterback that they draft?
- 42:19What exactly are they going to do for Darius Layton because again outside of Malik neighbors?
- 42:24He's the second best receiver on that team Jalen Hyatt. I couldn't tell you the last time that he's done something
- 42:31Honestly speaking here Mike Edwards
- 42:34Again, I don't know because he's a safety and you know safety's
- 42:39safety's really aren't traded as much and if they do they're put into
- 42:43either worse situations then you know, then what they were previously in or
- 42:48You know, they're just simply released and then Zidarius Lyons Ravens 49ers all three of those teams need
- 42:56Pass rushers immediately. They need somebody that can plug and play right now
- 43:00But hopefully we see something crazy happen
- 43:04Who knows you may you may see something after after this episode because remember
- 43:08every time that we are getting ready to start
- 43:12Start the episode or doing the episode or the episode is getting ready to
- 43:17Get ready to be published guess what something happens before I end this episode
- 43:22I do have to break some news unfortunate news guard Kenyon green for the Texans is out
- 43:28For the season with a shoulder injury
- 43:30My guess is probably a torn peck or something like that
- 43:33But prayers to him and whatnot. Hopefully he makes a speedy recovery. The question is what are the Texans going to do now?
- 43:41Because I know they have Kendrick green
- 43:43The question is are they going to move forward with him for the rest of the season?
- 43:46Are they going to try to bring us somebody else to possibly, you know add reinforcements in?
- 43:50I don't know who knows just have to wait and see but in this episode here for you guys like what you're listening
