- 0:00SPEAKER_03: In this episode, Brendan and Yup and me are back for the first time in a long time.
- 0:08SPEAKER_03: We're talking um some trade rumors.
- 0:11SPEAKER_03: We're talking uh a new game format more or less than LST.
- 0:15SPEAKER_03: We're talking about Yupe's recent trips to South Africa and Argentina and uh rounding up the HIL tour coming next.
- 0:42SPEAKER_03: Let's stick together.
- 0:44SPEAKER_03: I think it's episode six.
- 0:46SPEAKER_03: We're back a really short time later, which I really didn't think would happen.
- 0:50SPEAKER_03: And for the first time ever.
- 0:52SPEAKER_03: No, not the first time.
- 0:53SPEAKER_03: What the hell are you talking about, Phil?
- 0:56SPEAKER_03: Brendan and Yupe are here.
- 0:58SPEAKER_03: We're we're all here.
- 0:59SPEAKER_03: Brendan, it's 6 a.m.
- 1:00SPEAKER_03: his time.
- 1:01SPEAKER_03: He's annoyed us uh because he should be playing pickup basketball.
- 1:04SPEAKER_03: We've tracked you down, he's no longer got the shits.
- 1:08SPEAKER_03: Um he's back from South Africa.
- 1:10SPEAKER_03: And um we've just jumped straight on and pressed record and we're we're we're kind of cracking on.
- 1:15SPEAKER_03: What's going on, boys?
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: Well, to be to be honest, uh it's good to be back.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: It's also good to be back with the three of us.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: It feels very um good.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: I I don't appreciate you now for the for the fourth time in in two episodes and telling everyone I had to shit.
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: Did you or did you not?
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: It was horrendous though.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: But other than that, I'm completely fine.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: Um South Africa was pretty really good and uh uh going to uh Spain in a couple days, so um what a life.
- 1:49SPEAKER_05: Oh, whereabout whereabouts in Spain?
- 1:51SPEAKER_05: You and where are you staying?
- 1:52SPEAKER_05: Because if you stay at the same hotel as us, do not eat the chicken.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: Uh I'm staying in uh Valencia.
- 2:00SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah, so we don't even know.
- 2:02SPEAKER_05: We've just come back from Valencia, and um we I think as a USA men, I think we had nine people survive, and 21 out of 30 uh shit some vomiting, which we think was salmonella.
- 2:15SPEAKER_05: So there's one for you, heap.
- 2:18SPEAKER_03: If you got a trip advisor for that hotel, do you want to shout them out?
- 2:22SPEAKER_05: Olympia hotel and spa.
- 2:25SPEAKER_05: I can tell you for free, it is not a spa whilst you are there.
- 2:27SPEAKER_05: It is high stress, high alert, pacyremodium, the works.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: To be honest, I'm quite surprised that you guys got the shit with all the amount of shit you eat in America and the processed food and uh well that's the thing, right?
- 2:41SPEAKER_05: Everything's nuked in America, so that's a bit different.
- 2:44SPEAKER_05: Whereas this cook, this this chicken was severely undercooked.
- 2:48SPEAKER_05: I think I'm pretty sure it was still clucking when it came out of the kitchen.
- 2:52SPEAKER_03: Brendan, how was your before we go to you, how was your trip to Spain apart from that?
- 2:57SPEAKER_05: Uh yeah, really good, apart from everybody getting ill for pretty much the like actual game part.
- 3:04SPEAKER_05: Um we had a four nations with Japan, Ireland, and Spain.
- 3:10SPEAKER_05: Um, so yeah, really good opportunity for the guys to get some games under the belt.
- 3:14SPEAKER_05: Um yeah, it was good fun, apart from illness.
- 3:18SPEAKER_05: Um yeah, nice weather result.
- 3:24SPEAKER_05: Uh three games, three losses.
- 3:28SPEAKER_05: Um, but when you're nine rankings below the bottom team, it's not really surprising.
- 3:34SPEAKER_05: So actually, for us, this was more learning, and for some of the guys, it was the first time.
- 3:37SPEAKER_05: Well, for quite a few guys, it was their first time with USA men.
- 3:40SPEAKER_05: So it's actually a pretty good opportunity for guys to get games and as I say, just games under the belt.
- 3:45SPEAKER_05: And for others, it's some haven't played internationals in two, three years.
- 3:48SPEAKER_05: So for them, it was also pretty important.
- 3:50SPEAKER_05: So yeah, it was a good trip.
- 3:51SPEAKER_03: Like him, look at him, you do you feel like a proud guy, like right now, like he's the assistant coach of an international hockey team, and he's talking like you know, it's good for the guys to get games under their belt.
- 4:02SPEAKER_03: What does that make you think?
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: Well, it's almost like he's like he's like it's been like 15 years since he's done international hockey and shit.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: Like, that's how it sounds.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: Well, it's only been like a year and a half or something.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: Um, and you get media training over there because it's like um you sound very politically correct.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: It is like you to be very politically correct, but like it's it's also not.
- 4:30SPEAKER_05: I've just shouted out a hotel for giving everyone salmonella, and you're telling me I'm being PC.
- 4:35SPEAKER_05: Yeah, okay, fair.
- 4:38SPEAKER_05: I know my balance.
- 4:39SPEAKER_03: You um you were in Argentina, then you were in um South Africa.
- 4:44SPEAKER_03: How was how is the South Africa trip?
- 4:47SPEAKER_03: Like, this is something that every team should do.
- 4:49SPEAKER_03: In January, you seem to go to South Africa or warm weather and and go and get some good games in.
- 4:55SPEAKER_03: Like, can you talk us through uh how it was?
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was good.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: Um been to Stellenbos and um Cape Town.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: It was a two-week trip.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: Um, first week was uh mostly uh training, like twice a day.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, the gig.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: Um did actually some cool stuff.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: It was also a bit like our um like it was the first time in my life I did it like a team weekend with uh national team, uh, which is normally very uh like a club thing, and now it was uh with national team.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: So it felt quite cool.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: We had uh we rented like jeeps and we could sleep on top of the Jeeps if the if if you guys know what I mean.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: Like you have the tents on top of the Jeep.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: Um did like a like a tour around South Africa.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: I started South Africa, like around Cape Town and uh shit.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: Like, don't want to make it bigger than this, but that was really cool.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: Uh played twice against South Africa.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: Uh um yeah, it was a really good trip.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: Uh and now we're uh it it's it's just good to to train without worrying about uh whether you can train or not.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: Like I'm now I now have to train with orange road, and it's two degrees outside it, so I'm worried if I hit a ball or if I miss hit the ball, my one of my fingers will fall off, which is like not ideal.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: So um was really good.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: Happy we went and uh going to Valencia on Friday for pro league.
- 6:17SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you're I mean I've got a South Africa just looks so sick.
- 6:22SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it just looked so good.
- 6:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the games look good, they were actually uh people were watching and stuff as well.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was in uh Hartleville stadium.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: I think if you've ever been to South Africa, you kind of know it's like the with with the big stance on one side, and it was actually pretty packed.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: Um, and I didn't know hockey was such a big thing in South Africa, such a big thing, like was like uh a big thing in South Africa.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: People were very uh uh happy, very entertained, or um happen easily entertained, and um kids were on the pitch after the game.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: It felt a bit like a game in Holland, so uh was really cool and pretty sick.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: Shout out to South Africa.
- 7:02SPEAKER_03: Nice.
- 7:02SPEAKER_03: I've got to jump in because it's always a fun time to laugh at ourselves, isn't it?
- 7:06SPEAKER_03: I had um so like I said to Brendan last week, I was uh I've been out for like two months with a calf tear, and um I had my I've been like getting back into it, doing these rehab sessions with uh with other injured guys, and like we had our first week back in like proper training.
- 7:22SPEAKER_03: I was like pretty buzzing to get going.
- 7:24SPEAKER_03: I um so it's like a Monday morning, we have we have uh like some speed drills, then some hockey, and got going, was feeling pretty good.
- 7:33SPEAKER_03: Body was like accepting the fact that I'm playing hockey again, which when I'm as old as I am is is is a bit tricky.
- 7:40SPEAKER_03: Um within 10 minutes um I run into Stu Rushmere, which is something you shouldn't do often, and he managed to knee the same calf as I've just come back from rehabbing.
- 7:52SPEAKER_03: And straight away I'm walking to the sideline, can't walk.
- 7:56SPEAKER_03: Just you you can sometimes can't write it, I think.
- 7:59SPEAKER_03: When you just uh if anyone's done it, I think when I like broke my finger a few years ago and you just like first session back, just get whacked on the finger.
- 8:07SPEAKER_03: I should have been ready for it, I wasn't ready for it.
- 8:09SPEAKER_03: So I've got a few more days on the sideline uh with it with a with a pathetic little dead calf.
- 8:15SPEAKER_03: Um if anyone can relate to that, listeners, or or you do you pull boasts about not being injured now?
- 8:22SPEAKER_03: But I thought it was a nice little anecdote for for anyone who thinks we just uh we just have this life or Riley.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Brendan could probably uh relate.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: He's been injured most of his career, right?
- 8:36SPEAKER_05: Why why are you like this?
- 8:38SPEAKER_05: Why why why just because you're in fuck just because you're fucking miserable because you're looking outside and knowing that two degrees you've just been swanning around in the southern hemisphere enjoying the sun and now you're back to fucking reality.
- 8:50SPEAKER_05: Welcome to the world, brother.
- 8:52SPEAKER_05: Not all sunshine and fucking rainbows, mate.
- 8:54SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you say that he's going to spade next week.
- 8:57SPEAKER_05: Yeah, he is, he's swanning off again.
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: I I almost forgot how easy it was to get a nibble out of you with just a question.
- 9:07SPEAKER_03: Uh anyway, well, we are me and you're gonna hopefully, if I can actually make it on the plane, gonna see each other next week.
- 9:13SPEAKER_03: We're gonna play uh the some the some pro league games.
- 9:15SPEAKER_03: Um, Holland and England are going over to play uh little round robin with Spain in the next pro league little round robin.
- 9:22SPEAKER_03: Before we get to that, I was gonna um like round up the Hockey India League because it's officially finished.
- 9:28SPEAKER_03: Uh, we're recording this the day after the finals.
- 9:31SPEAKER_03: Um, if anyone tuned in on YouTube, it was pretty good.
- 9:35SPEAKER_03: Kalinga Lancers, who won the whole league, they ended up winning the whole thing.
- 9:40SPEAKER_03: Ranchi Royals came second, then the two fans came third with the HIL governing council, which is the most hilarious name ever, coming fourth.
- 9:50SPEAKER_03: Um, with their we didn't speak about it last week, Brent.
- 9:54SPEAKER_03: With the fact that they um such a shit name they couldn't get a buyer, so the uh basically the hockey India took over that team and gave them all actual India kit to play in, which was just absolutely hilarious.
- 10:07SPEAKER_03: Um, first of all, did uh you did have you watched any of that?
- 10:11SPEAKER_03: Have you been bothered about it?
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: Uh would not say I've been bothered about it.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: Uh, I would say I've watched a couple games uh to um um support uh like teammates of mine.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: So I watched uh a game like where uh Santiago had to for the Pipers, I think he was at, and uh slow uh the two fans uh watched it, watched the semi-final, they played against uh the Indian council team.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: Oh only India, only India.
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: You can just say, oh fuck it, we'll just give them our national team kit and let them play.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: Oh fucking fucking great.
- 10:51SPEAKER_01: I've I've fallen in love with the country.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: Uh but um yeah, uh Tom Bone uh kind of made his uh name um as the best player in the world.
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: Um uh he put it like a mark next to it because uh I think he scored 18 goals.
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: 19 in the end, I think.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: 19.
- 11:09SPEAKER_01: It was really cool to see uh this uh the what I saw today on Instagram.
- 11:14SPEAKER_01: That was like uh India never changed.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: Uh the award ceremony of best player, best upcoming player, and stuff were like the top score.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: They can't really do anything about it, but all the best players and shit um went to Indian players, which I thought was fucking great.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: Um uh and yeah, I think that I not too not that I predicted it, but I've I felt like uh the the Kalinga Lancers with the team they have, they were quite stacked.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: Uh wasn't like a big surprise that they won it, in my opinion.
- 11:44SPEAKER_03: No, they were they were they they messed up last year, they had a really good team last year and they messed up, and then I was looking at it, and the thing that I realized with the with the like general my general take from the Hockey India League was that like it was broadcast on YouTube, which was really good.
- 12:00SPEAKER_03: You could you could tune in.
- 12:01SPEAKER_03: It was mostly I think like good fun games to watch, and like you could actually get into it because there's a lot of chaos and you can generally see loads of like transition moments.
- 12:11SPEAKER_03: It's not like watching international hockey where it's like a game of cat and mouse and everyone's trying to break each other down.
- 12:16SPEAKER_03: That you've always got some kind of chaos where something goes wrong and it m makes the best players look really good, which I think was really cool.
- 12:24SPEAKER_03: Um, what I did realise, I think that like you need players who can play together and like the team that gels.
- 12:30SPEAKER_03: So obviously, we laughed.
- 12:32SPEAKER_03: I think that like the Kalinga they brought in the Aussie coach and he brought in four Australians, and then alongside uh like Keener and Arthur Van Doren, who obviously already play together, like they played really, really nicely and Hendrix.
- 12:47SPEAKER_03: Sorry, so you got you got three Aussies and four Australians, and automatically they probably don't need to work as hard on gelling.
- 12:54SPEAKER_03: And is it a surprise that that kind of worked out for them?
- 12:57SPEAKER_03: I don't think it is.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: Um whereas you can go on you and a good Indian goalie, also like I think Dead Tuck wouldn't say he's the best goalie in the world, but like he's a good Indian goalie, so you don't have to like swap players to get another like international player in, uh, which I think makes somewhat of a difference.
- 13:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I was watching like the two fans.
- 13:23SPEAKER_03: I think the two fans like uh on paper had some really really good players.
- 13:27SPEAKER_03: They've got you know uh Daneberg in goal, De Slover, Nick Woods are a good player, you know, the Tim Brand, Zach, uh Struthoff from Germany, but it's like so many different nations trying to work out how to play together, and it didn't look like completely combined.
- 13:44SPEAKER_03: It is and I think there's something in that is that like probably if if you want to have success in India, you probably need to have a a well-gelled team.
- 13:53SPEAKER_03: Um, my question to you both is like what what's the hockey India League like bringing to hockey?
- 14:00SPEAKER_03: Like, are you glad it's there?
- 14:02SPEAKER_03: Do you care about it?
- 14:03SPEAKER_03: Is it is it like listeners out there?
- 14:05SPEAKER_03: I'd love to know your opinion as well.
- 14:06SPEAKER_03: Do you actually care about the Hockey India League, or do you think it's just something that's gonna be fun for a few years, then it's just gonna disappear?
- 14:14SPEAKER_05: Brings money, yeah.
- 14:16SPEAKER_05: I was gonna say cash for players, right?
- 14:18SPEAKER_05: That's what that's what it's bringing in.
- 14:20SPEAKER_05: Like players are getting paid.
- 14:22SPEAKER_05: Um, I think there's like uh I think India will off the back of it do get like a benefit out of it from like a development of players.
- 14:30SPEAKER_05: Um, but do I care about it?
- 14:31SPEAKER_05: I couldn't give two fucks.
- 14:32SPEAKER_05: Like ultimately, there's a fucking team called the H IL Jedi Council or whatever.
- 14:36SPEAKER_05: Like, who who cares?
- 14:37SPEAKER_05: Jedi Council.
- 14:38SPEAKER_05: Like, like it's such a fucking like ridiculous scenario.
- 14:42SPEAKER_05: Like, who like really there's no affiliation to the teams, there's nothing like that.
- 14:46SPEAKER_05: Like, if someone like Jacob Draper, for example, like getting transferred, like I doubt he was really that bothered as long as there's still money coming in his pocket.
- 14:54SPEAKER_05: Do you know what I mean?
- 14:54SPEAKER_05: Like, I don't I don't think he's I don't think he's cut up that his team's no longer in the competition.
- 14:58SPEAKER_05: I think there's like for me, it's I don't really feel it's bringing much apart from just a bit of chaos to YouTube.
- 15:06SPEAKER_05: I mean, good fun, but it's nice to watch, it's free to watch.
- 15:10SPEAKER_05: There's some pretty good stuff on display at times.
- 15:12SPEAKER_05: There's also some calamitous stuff at on on TV at times, like but uh do I think it's bringing anything without all nations being available?
- 15:20SPEAKER_05: Not really.
- 15:21SPEAKER_05: I think it's kind of a bit of a much of muchness, it's just a another tournament where hired guns come in and play some hockey for a bit and get paid pretty well to put on a show.
- 15:33SPEAKER_05: It's probably the best way I can describe it.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: Brendan said.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: I think it's uh clip that.
- 15:47SPEAKER_03: Jesus Christ.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, but I think it's like everyone um I I do think if you're there, like the experience is also pretty cool.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: Like you've you've done it, Phil.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: Um uh I think it's a pretty fun experience, and uh you play a lot of uh games against uh cool players, the Indian you get a bit of a different Indian culture than you get when you're there with your national team.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: Uh but take away the money and no one goes.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: So um uh that's my that's what my effort like we also now have like a uh there's also players that say, Yeah, but it's such a cool experience, and I hope everyone wants to go, everyone should go, everyone should do it, wants to laugh.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, okay, I believe you, but it's a fun experience because you also know at the end of it you'll get a shitload of money for it.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: So that that that that's what makes it like bearable at times, in my I think.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: Uh again, I haven't done it, so I can't really speak out of experience.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: Uh, but don't think anyone, if they if they say hey there's an Indian competition, you get no money, but it's a really cool experience.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: Can you please come?
- 16:47SPEAKER_01: No one comes.
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: Um I think I'm hoping yeah.
- 16:52SPEAKER_03: My dream would be like in 10 years' time, they can go.
- 16:54SPEAKER_03: You can you can you could have like what they've created is like an actual product where you have affiliations to the teams, you have huge crowds going to the games, and like people are vying for them spots rather than it just being about the money.
- 17:10SPEAKER_03: I think that would be the dream.
- 17:11SPEAKER_03: That's my take on it.
- 17:12SPEAKER_03: Is that like if they can get the crowds coming in, if they can make it a product where like you could actually go around India and like seeing them places and seeing them crowds and seeing that like then the standard of hockey is unbelievably good, which I thought it was okay.
- 17:25SPEAKER_03: It was it's an okay standard.
- 17:27SPEAKER_03: It's I really wouldn't say it was like incredible, but yeah, I probably I probably do tend to agree more.
- 17:32SPEAKER_03: I would love to see it keep growing because it was an amazing experience to do.
- 17:36SPEAKER_03: It just needs it just needs more backing and more like support from uh from from the crowd, like from the Indian crowds that we know could be there.
- 17:44SPEAKER_05: Um I think if it I think I think just on that, if it like if the women's grows, I think that it gains a huge benefit, right?
- 17:51SPEAKER_05: But at the moment the women's is like it's not the best players in the world.
- 17:56SPEAKER_05: It's like older players come to the end of the career, younger players who just want to go have an experience.
- 18:02SPEAKER_05: So it's not like the same thing as what the men's is trying to do.
- 18:06SPEAKER_05: So it's like, well, until that point, I think it's kind of like it's a product that doesn't really make much sense because it's a bit, I don't know, it doesn't necessarily have like a real goal.
- 18:18SPEAKER_05: Whereas like if both products are trying to do the same thing, like the pro league, for example, they're trying to say it's like whatever it is, the best standard in the world, like it is across both genders, so it makes sense.
- 18:29SPEAKER_05: Whereas like the second you don't have that continuity between both, I think it becomes a bit confusing as to what it is.
- 18:35SPEAKER_05: It's like the super sixes for England hockey, right?
- 18:37SPEAKER_05: They constantly tell you it's like the best thing you can go and do in January, this, that, and the other, but they don't really give a fuck.
- 18:42SPEAKER_05: So it's like, right, well, then let's just just don't try, like, just don't, and then have it as a separate product or whatever.
- 18:49SPEAKER_05: But it's that kind of like conflictions.
- 18:51SPEAKER_05: Then people are like, Well, do you care or don't you care?
- 18:53SPEAKER_05: Well, if you don't really care, then we don't really care.
- 18:56SPEAKER_05: Do you know what I mean?
- 18:57SPEAKER_05: It's that kind of similar kind of time.
- 18:58SPEAKER_03: Brendan's come to play.
- 18:59SPEAKER_03: Nice.
- 19:00SPEAKER_03: Firing some shots, Brent.
- 19:01SPEAKER_03: Love it.
- 19:02SPEAKER_05: It's 6 a.m.
- 19:03SPEAKER_05: I told you, and you're eating into basketball time.
- 19:08SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, I think that's I think that's fair enough.
- 19:11SPEAKER_03: I'd love to hear any anyone who feels passionate about the hockey India League and you've got your thoughts.
- 19:15SPEAKER_03: Do you care?
- 19:16SPEAKER_03: Do you do you what do you think?
- 19:17SPEAKER_03: Do you agree with what the three of us are saying?
- 19:19SPEAKER_03: Um, you quickly on the pro league stuff, like you went to Argentina and played against Argentina and Pakistan.
- 19:26SPEAKER_03: Um, do you guys uh how was it playing against Pakistan?
- 19:31SPEAKER_03: Because I assume you haven't done that very often.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: Uh last time I played them, um was my worst nightmare.
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: Oh, Olympic qualifiers?
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: Olympic qualifiers in 2090, I think.
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: Uh where we where we almost shit the well, we actually shit the bed, but we we like now it was just like uh like a shard.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: Uh and uh instead of like full on duki.
- 19:58SPEAKER_01: Um uh that was the last time I played in them, so I still had like a trauma of seeing seeing them, even though none of the players who were there were probably in uh in uh uh Argentina.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: It's just it's it's like India on steroids.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: Uh India nowadays is like a pretty organized team, they know what they're doing.
- 20:19SPEAKER_01: Uh everyone kind of follows the thing, and you see sometimes hints of a player just going into chaos, but it's like India is a really high level at the moment.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: It's like no, you don't really know whether they play men to men, you don't know whether they play zone, uh, they don't really know what they do themselves.
- 20:37SPEAKER_01: But they have a couple players who are fucking incredible who can who can ribble left to right, who can like uh accelerate full speed and then make a 90-degree turn.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: I think I've got the worst uh left to right, like the inside drag, the worst ever seen like was in a full sprint, and I had he he backged it inside, and I had to take two more steps before I could actually turn, and he was already at the top of the D almost.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: Um, I was lucky it wasn't like a big chance, or he didn't hit him on goal because I think it would have made every highlight real.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: Um so yeah, it was quite the experience.
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, playing Pakistan, but and they had this right back, and there's always one at Pakistan who looks who looks like he wants to kill you.
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: He does, he's not there to play hockey, he's there to to hit a couple knees and and crack a skull.
- 21:28SPEAKER_01: Like it's uh it was the captain, Boot, I think was his name.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: Uh fucking scared of him.
- 21:33SPEAKER_01: I was lucky I was I'm more mostly centered on our right side and in defense, and he was their their right half, their right back, so I didn't really see him.
- 21:41SPEAKER_01: But I held my breath for a couple of teammates of mine who who I was happy they didn't put their glove on the ground at times.
- 21:48SPEAKER_03: Are they the are they the like the the one team that the coaches say, right?
- 21:54SPEAKER_03: When they line you up and they go to hit the ball through you, you have the license to maybe stand.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: A little bit taller.
- 22:01SPEAKER_01: I think the coach is happy if you don't if you don't put your hand on the ground at times.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: But they don't they don't see like there's like a three-meter span, they don't see it.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: If there's someone in their way, they're they're in their way.
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: But I don't care.
- 22:17SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 22:19SPEAKER_01: Especially with and there's certain players, but they yeah, it was it was fun to play them, and they were they were actually they were like nice guys and they were very friendly.
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: And uh um there was this rumor going round before the before before that the like the tournament part started, in which people said uh they're still not in Argentina, like two days before the game was played.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: So the classic Pakistan, but but no none of us were like surprised.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: I was like, Yeah, probably.
- 22:44SPEAKER_01: Uh but it was yeah, it was fun playing them.
- 22:46SPEAKER_01: Argentina was less fun to play them, um, but yeah, we kind of know that by now.
- 22:51SPEAKER_05: Do you um do you think so?
- 22:54SPEAKER_05: I like I had a I thought the other day, because I've obviously just Chris played against Spain, um played against Argentina in the summer.
- 23:01SPEAKER_05: Do you think the Latin teams are finally starting to defend?
- 23:04SPEAKER_05: It's a pretty like hockey specific question for you, Yuppie.
- 23:08SPEAKER_05: But like previously they've they've always kind of like sat deep and aren't really too bothered, and kind of just like they're pretty like they just basically want the ball and then they'll just play when they're on the ball.
- 23:17SPEAKER_05: But defensively, they've always been a bit like disinterested, is probably the best way to describe it.
- 23:22SPEAKER_05: Whereas like Spain now, like watching them this week and watching Argentina like over the summer, like they've suddenly started to like really focus on defense and start it to get a lot tougher to beat, which then means they just have the ball more, but they're like they definitely seem more interested.
- 23:37SPEAKER_05: I don't know what your thoughts are on it.
- 23:39SPEAKER_03: I don't know if that's a that's a that's a bad take, Brent.
- 23:44SPEAKER_05: As in previous because of previous, not because of recent.
- 23:46SPEAKER_03: No, because I think the Spanish and Argentina are always pretty good on defense, they just love dribbling as well.
- 23:52SPEAKER_03: Like Spanish, especially, like have been good at defense for for a while.
- 23:55SPEAKER_05: No, I I I mean, like you know, previously they're like dangler backhand, and like they're not like I think they're like different teams now.
- 24:01SPEAKER_05: I think Max has like changed them a lot.
- 24:03SPEAKER_05: And I think uh is it Mateus Rey or Lucas Ray?
- 24:06SPEAKER_05: I can't remember.
- 24:06SPEAKER_05: One plays, one coaches, but the biggest they're definitely now a lot more focused on like defense and forehand, and like it feels they're so much more defensively set up now than what they have been previously, rather.
- 24:19SPEAKER_05: But I mean on like a full pitch press rather than necessarily like just sitting deeper, like especially Argentina.
- 24:26SPEAKER_01: Uh for me, Argentina is like I feel like they've doubled down a bit on what they're good at.
- 24:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so they're like, we are a shit team to play against.
- 24:34SPEAKER_01: Everyone, no one likes to play Argentina.
- 24:36SPEAKER_01: Let's just make sure we make it even worse for them.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: So first half, they kind of press and they kind of make it.
- 24:42SPEAKER_01: It's I feel like they play they play mind games with you.
- 24:45SPEAKER_01: First half they press and then they make you feel like, oh, this you know what today might actually be the time it will be a fun game against Argentina, and then and then at a certain point they or it's like 1-1, or it's like 1-0, or they they're up, and then they think, no, that's been more than enough fun for now.
- 25:04SPEAKER_01: Let's second half, we're not gonna leave our round 23, and we'll have a couple, we'll have a couple really quick forwards who are really skillful, and we're gonna just make the field really big so everyone has a big one-on-one, and uh, we're gonna do a really deep zone, and we have the best goalie in the world right now, so come at us.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: So that's that's what they did, and they were fucking successful at it.
- 25:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Phil, I know what you want to say.
- 25:26SPEAKER_01: I I believe Toby Santiago's the best goalie in the world right now.
- 25:30SPEAKER_03: No, I wasn't biased.
- 25:31SPEAKER_03: I wasn't actually gonna nibble at that bit.
- 25:33SPEAKER_03: I was gonna I was gonna let that slide for the for the first thing.
- 25:37SPEAKER_05: I was saying he tried to defend himself though, suggests a lot though.
- 25:40SPEAKER_03: But we'll no, I thought it, I thought about it.
- 25:42SPEAKER_03: I thought I need to get stuck into you for that, but no, I wasn't.
- 25:50SPEAKER_03: Um if you watch Santiago in uh the any of the HIL, you might think differently, but that's that's a conversation for another time.
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: Um I think I think if you put if you put any goalie with those runners in, they would they would not have stopped the ball.
- 26:05SPEAKER_01: Absolute potato flingers.
- 26:07SPEAKER_03: Well all I was actually gonna say was I think Argentina have realized that 10 years ago they had this uh incredible DNA where they won Olympic goals, where it was effectively exactly that, which was like, we are gonna make it really hard to press us, we're gonna create these, give these forwards the complete license to do whatever the hell they want, and we're gonna just take away anyone's like rhythm, how they play, and we're gonna piss people off like that.
- 26:33SPEAKER_03: And and unfortunately, it's kind of working for them, isn't it?
- 26:38SPEAKER_03: Um, I yeah, anything on that, Bren?
- 26:43SPEAKER_05: No, I agree.
- 26:43SPEAKER_05: I think I think you're right.
- 26:44SPEAKER_05: I think it's it's probably me thinking it's been recent, but actually, yeah, you're right.
- 26:49SPEAKER_05: It's just like almost going back to that 2016 cycle and just going back to what they, as you said, doubled down on what they're pretty fucking good at.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: And probably you guys like USA can make every any team look good defensively, right?
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's like that, is it?
- 27:06SPEAKER_03: Hey, um, the USA have officially we should congratulate Brendan.
- 27:09SPEAKER_03: The USA have officially qualified for the for the Olympics, haven't they, Brent?
- 27:15SPEAKER_04: They have, they have both men and women.
- 27:17SPEAKER_04: How did you do that?
- 27:18SPEAKER_03: What what do you need to do to do that?
- 27:21SPEAKER_05: Uh what you're trying to infer, Phil.
- 27:25SPEAKER_03: No, I'm I I'm actually intrigued, mate.
- 27:27SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 27:28SPEAKER_05: They had to exist.
- 27:30SPEAKER_05: So the rule so no, the rule is that the rule is top 25 is is is the like a rule, and then your governing body have to not your governing body, but your uh Olympic team have to basically agree that it's worthwhile.
- 27:47SPEAKER_05: So do you remember like I think it's yeah, there's a few teams, but so every time you qualify, you could still technically your um Olympic association could say no.
- 27:57SPEAKER_05: So like South Africa had that with Tokyo.
- 28:01SPEAKER_05: I think where they had to like argue.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: Was it was it Tokyo where they had to argue with their um not Tokyo because Tokyo Tokyo was another nightmare of mine where they actually almost beat us and we almost missed out on the qualified.
- 28:14SPEAKER_05: But they had to but they had to argue with their own governing body to basically say that we should get it.
- 28:19SPEAKER_05: That could very well be.
- 28:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, um so so basically officially you've qualified via the FIH and your Olympic council has said yes.
- 28:30SPEAKER_05: Yeah, basically.
- 28:31SPEAKER_05: Um, but I think I think top 25 was the rule because I think that's how Brazil got in.
- 28:38SPEAKER_05: And what ranking are you at the moment?
- 28:39SPEAKER_03: Do you know?
- 28:40SPEAKER_05: 25th.
- 28:44SPEAKER_05: There's like a group of like four teams within like five points, but right and no, there's that's an argument for another day on ranking points because ranking points are bullshit.
- 28:54SPEAKER_03: You so happy right now, like well, no.
- 29:00SPEAKER_03: This is a congratulations moment, you know, not everyone gets to sit on the top of the tree.
- 29:05SPEAKER_01: Well, I no, I didn't think it's right.
- 29:07SPEAKER_01: I think it's really genuine.
- 29:09SPEAKER_01: I know it's very tough of you to come across J.
- 29:12SPEAKER_01: But I'm serious.
- 29:13SPEAKER_01: If you weren't laughing, I'd be like, Yeah, genuine, but you're laughing.
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: I'm honestly I'm very proud of you.
- 29:19SPEAKER_01: I think it's really cool what you do here.
- 29:20SPEAKER_01: Honestly, really, I mean it.
- 29:22SPEAKER_01: I'm really no, there's no blood.
- 29:24SPEAKER_01: Really cool.
- 29:25SPEAKER_01: Well done.
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: You're going to you're going to the Olympics.
- 29:27SPEAKER_05: That's pretty cool.
- 29:28SPEAKER_05: It's um, it'll be it'll be for some of the guys, it's like it's gonna be like a different world, but they're like the logistics, it'll be really interesting to see what every team does for the logistics of this tournament because the the village is so far away from the pitch.
- 29:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, let's hope the world has not been completely bombed by then and we can actually play them, and there's still countries that are welcome there.
- 29:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah, fuck.
- 29:54SPEAKER_01: Don't yeah, I can't say anything legally.
- 29:58SPEAKER_03: Why is why is Trump listening?
- 30:01SPEAKER_05: Can't afford to lose my visa.
- 30:04SPEAKER_05: Trump's an idiot.
- 30:06SPEAKER_05: Well, right, Brendan.
- 30:10SPEAKER_05: The grin on you's face right now.
- 30:14SPEAKER_03: So let's stick together, just turn political for a second.
- 30:16SPEAKER_03: Hey Brendan, what do you think of ice?
- 30:19SPEAKER_05: Oh god, that that I can actually say.
- 30:22SPEAKER_05: It's wild, it's crazy at the moment, some of the stuff that's coming out, right?
- 30:28SPEAKER_05: I was just do you have a gun, Brendan?
- 30:31SPEAKER_05: No, can you imagine me with a gun?
- 30:33SPEAKER_05: I I think I've got a higher percentage chance of shooting myself than someone else.
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: I will I I think if I would move to America, I would buy a gun.
- 30:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you have to have like it's it's you have to have a license by state as well.
- 30:48SPEAKER_05: So every time you like move house, you have to then go and register the same gun again, like over and over again.
- 30:54SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it doesn't seem that difficult.
- 30:57SPEAKER_05: It's more difficult than you think.
- 30:58SPEAKER_05: It's even like changing your like getting a driver's license is like not easy in America.
- 31:03SPEAKER_05: It's pretty like it.
- 31:04SPEAKER_05: I had to queue up outside the DMV for so like you have like different DMVs around the city.
- 31:11SPEAKER_05: I had to queue up at 5 a.m.
- 31:13SPEAKER_05: for a 7am opening time to be able to get in the queue to be able to be seen that day.
- 31:20SPEAKER_05: It's like it's I think that there's a family here from um Luton, the Rashids.
- 31:26SPEAKER_05: I think their son works at Wimbledon.
- 31:29SPEAKER_05: Um they said it's like a rite of passage that you just have to do, and if you're willing to get a driver's license, it's proof that you you can do it in America because it's that extreme.
- 31:38SPEAKER_03: You would recommend then America, yeah.
- 31:41SPEAKER_05: I would, yeah.
- 31:43SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I would, yeah, 100%.
- 31:45SPEAKER_05: Every single time.
- 31:46SPEAKER_05: It's a lot of fun.
- 31:48SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 31:48SPEAKER_03: Uh we'll we are gonna take a short break.
- 31:51SPEAKER_03: We'll be back in a in a second.

- 33:39SPEAKER_03: Right, we're back for part two.
- 33:41SPEAKER_03: Um, I wanted to try a little game out, and I don't know, it's called it's called like the game of more or less than LST.
- 33:49SPEAKER_03: So I've I've been on the uh interactive data hub um on the FIH, and I've got all of our caps, goals, and wins down.
- 34:01SPEAKER_03: Oh god.
- 34:02SPEAKER_03: Um, and then we can either compare to You's obviously gonna feel pretty good about himself, apart from if we talk about goals.
- 34:12SPEAKER_03: Um I would like I did a little bit of research here.
- 34:15SPEAKER_03: I I would like to state that you two are I would like you're kind of out there on your own.
- 34:22SPEAKER_03: I was desperately trying to find centre backs who have quite a lot of caps and hardly any goals, and they're really hard to find.
- 34:31SPEAKER_03: I feel like you two must be like you must be like trying to set this new standard of like being these centre backs who just don't score because turns out lots of centre backs either flick or they or they bag a few goals.
- 34:43SPEAKER_03: Is that fair?
- 34:45SPEAKER_05: I just feel Phil, as our job is to stop goals.
- 34:49SPEAKER_05: We're both runners, right?
- 34:51SPEAKER_05: If you had statistics for how many corners we ran down, we'd also be unique as well, you know.
- 34:58SPEAKER_01: Uh um I like the two centre backs I play with at national team is Lux Ballock and Justin Block.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and they both have three goals as well.
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: Lux is like 150 something caps, he has three goals.
- 35:10SPEAKER_01: I have three goals.
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: Justin has three goals or four goals, three goals.
- 35:13SPEAKER_03: I think I think Justin has six goals.
- 35:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I know.
- 35:20SPEAKER_03: Well, I also thought that you're both you're both pretty high up injectors, like in your like you're you're both you you and Brendan were both good injectors in your time, which meant that you would have seen a couple of rebounds come out and give it a go.
- 35:34SPEAKER_03: Because I was I was desperately trying to find you, yeah.
- 35:37SPEAKER_03: I mean, you you've already got one of them right.
- 35:39SPEAKER_03: I mean, uh, it's which is a bit annoying.
- 35:41SPEAKER_03: Um, Lars Balk is on three goals.
- 35:43SPEAKER_03: You P you're also on three goals.
- 35:45SPEAKER_03: I can tell you about Justin Block if you want, but um, yeah, I I I've been basically doing my digging, and you guys can guess.
- 35:54SPEAKER_03: I'll give you some tests, and you guys can guess um you know whether you've you've got more or less, or or we'll we'll we'll start off with I'll I just want to like pump up Yup's tires because he's always a bit low on confidence to start with.
- 36:10SPEAKER_03: Do you know your stats?
- 36:13SPEAKER_03: No.
- 36:15SPEAKER_03: He does, I'm sure he does.
- 36:16SPEAKER_03: Can you have a goal?
- 36:18SPEAKER_01: It's pretty easy to to to remember your amount of goals or the amount of caps.
- 36:23SPEAKER_01: Then I know how many caps have you got?
- 36:26SPEAKER_03: 179.
- 36:29SPEAKER_03: Brendan, how many caps you got?
- 36:31SPEAKER_05: I think I'm in the 140s, but I'm not sure.
- 36:35SPEAKER_03: Are you are you planning on it?
- 36:37SPEAKER_03: Sounds like you're planning on getting a few more.
- 36:40SPEAKER_05: I'd love to get to the one, I'd love to have got to the 150.
- 36:44SPEAKER_05: That was the dream.
- 36:44SPEAKER_03: I can't believe actually we haven't talked about this.
- 36:46SPEAKER_03: There's a wild rumour last summer that Brendan, I've got to bring this up.
- 36:51SPEAKER_03: This is too funny.
- 36:52SPEAKER_03: Is that Brendan appeared on the USA Instagram last summer running down, doing a number one running line, and so this got sent around our GB squad, and it quickly became absolute wildfire that Brendan has decided to his last game for for GB, I think was like June 2024.
- 37:11SPEAKER_03: And people very quickly worked out that if he had three years out, he gets a USA passport, he could be at the next Olympics as a as a USA player, and this went by wildfire.
- 37:21SPEAKER_03: And Brendan refused to answer my messages when I messed him multiple times, which obviously just added to the the the holy shit, he's actually doing this.
- 37:29SPEAKER_03: And then he finally said, No, I was just just had to join in because we had low numbers and blah blah blah.
- 37:35SPEAKER_03: I still think there's a you know at least a 25% chance that he's gonna rock up for USA in LA.
- 37:40SPEAKER_03: But Brendan, do you want to you plan on getting a few more calves just for USA?
- 37:45SPEAKER_05: That was that was the thing that Revs asked me when I said I was stopping.
- 37:48SPEAKER_05: Was he was like, Oh, so LA 2028?
- 37:54SPEAKER_05: I was like, no, Revs.
- 37:56SPEAKER_05: I can't no, uh the answer, Phil, is no, fuck.
- 38:01SPEAKER_05: My body is no, no, even if I wanted to, no, I don't think I could do it.
- 38:05SPEAKER_05: My body's you know when someone says no too many times, you know what I mean?
- 38:16SPEAKER_03: Again, if I could get the bookies and put a quid on it, I reckon I would.
- 38:20SPEAKER_05: It's a quid though, isn't it?
- 38:23SPEAKER_05: It's a quid, it's worth it.
- 38:26SPEAKER_03: So you're not having you're not having it, Brent.
- 38:28SPEAKER_03: You're definitely you're giving yourself a zero percent chance.
- 38:31SPEAKER_05: Fuck no.
- 38:31SPEAKER_05: I've also seen the running that these guys do here.
- 38:33SPEAKER_05: I haven't got that in me.
- 38:34SPEAKER_03: Fuck you, put what are you saying?
- 38:38SPEAKER_03: Do you reckon Brent's coming back for LA?
- 38:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, for that me too.
- 38:46SPEAKER_03: Um anyway, you in your games, so so for uh for for you guys, I I've got 232 caps at the moment.
- 38:56SPEAKER_03: Do you think who's got more wins out of me and you?
- 39:02SPEAKER_01: I think I do.
- 39:04SPEAKER_01: No, I think no, you play 50 caps more, or 60 caps more.
- 39:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, my money's on you.
- 39:14SPEAKER_01: I think I have a winning percentage of probably 66 percent of something.
- 39:19SPEAKER_01: I think uh we win, or like 60, we I think we win, and I think you're at like 4550.
- 39:27SPEAKER_01: So I think you should have a couple more.
- 39:30SPEAKER_05: I think 45 is a bit high.
- 39:32SPEAKER_05: I think Phil's is probably about 39 percent.
- 39:37SPEAKER_03: So you've got 99 wins, which is kind of cool.
- 39:41SPEAKER_03: Next next wins, 100 wins.
- 39:43SPEAKER_03: That's pretty.
- 39:44SPEAKER_03: I bet not many, not many international players have done it.
- 39:46SPEAKER_03: I've got 91.
- 39:49SPEAKER_05: Oh what's that as a percentage?
- 39:53SPEAKER_05: Am I close to your percentage?
- 39:54SPEAKER_05: I didn't actually look at the it's 910.
- 40:00SPEAKER_05: You know what?
- 40:02SPEAKER_05: You're such a dick.
- 40:04SPEAKER_05: What's he doing?
- 40:05SPEAKER_05: I don't know who's my turn to a child.
- 40:07SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I'm banging 390.
- 40:12SPEAKER_05: 39%.
- 40:14SPEAKER_05: So well done.
- 40:15SPEAKER_03: I didn't bother because of the England and GB thing is so annoying.
- 40:18SPEAKER_03: I have to keep going back on the data hub and adding my stuff up, which you have to do for all England and GB stuff.
- 40:24SPEAKER_03: So I didn't bother looking for the percentages, but yeah, you 99 wins.
- 40:28SPEAKER_03: So next one's 100.
- 40:30SPEAKER_01: But then I'm then it's uh 99 wins in on 179 caps.
- 40:35SPEAKER_01: I think I'm pretty then there's like 60 percent.
- 40:38SPEAKER_01: Brendan 55.
- 40:41SPEAKER_03: That's pretty yeah, that's pretty close.
- 40:44SPEAKER_03: Pretty good.
- 40:46SPEAKER_03: Okay, um Brendan.
- 40:48SPEAKER_03: I guess for you, let's start with you do you think you have more or less caps than Marco Milkow?
- 40:57SPEAKER_05: Oh, because he came in and out, didn't he?
- 41:01SPEAKER_05: That's what she said.
- 41:02SPEAKER_05: Uh I'll go less.
- 41:04SPEAKER_05: I reckon he's probably in I reckon he's about the 150.
- 41:09SPEAKER_03: You what do you reckon?
- 41:12SPEAKER_01: I think he has less.
- 41:17SPEAKER_03: He has yeah, he has 146 caps.
- 41:22SPEAKER_03: Two more than Brennan.
- 41:24SPEAKER_03: There you go.
- 41:26SPEAKER_03: So Brennan Brennan gets Brennan's one up.
- 41:30SPEAKER_03: Um does um Apple, is it Mark Apple, the German goalie?
- 41:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 41:37SPEAKER_03: Does he have more or less goals than you, Brennan?
- 41:41SPEAKER_03: Equal.
- 41:41SPEAKER_03: We're both on one.
- 41:45SPEAKER_05: Trick question.
- 41:46SPEAKER_05: Come on!
- 41:50SPEAKER_03: Oh, it's fun to just throw that one in there.
- 41:52SPEAKER_03: Um so so you for you Hardik Singh Indian Indian legend.
- 42:01SPEAKER_03: Does he have more or less caps and more or less wins than you?
- 42:09SPEAKER_01: That's a pretty good one.
- 42:10SPEAKER_01: I think Hardik is younger than me.
- 42:12SPEAKER_01: I think Hardik is like from the generation after me.
- 42:16SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 42:17SPEAKER_01: Hardik is probably 28, 27.
- 42:22SPEAKER_01: But I think I think he has just a bit more.
- 42:26SPEAKER_01: I think he's probably around 185, 186, 7, something like that.
- 42:31SPEAKER_01: And I think he's he has 97 wins.
- 42:41SPEAKER_03: So he has 166 caps for just under, and he has 94 wins.
- 42:49SPEAKER_03: Hey, you weren't bad, hey.
- 42:51SPEAKER_04: That's a good guessing.
- 42:54SPEAKER_03: Sorry, Brendan, I didn't even give you a chance then.
- 42:56SPEAKER_05: No, I didn't I was gonna go say the way that you went.
- 43:01SPEAKER_03: Um a question for for me.
- 43:05SPEAKER_03: Does uh Nicholas Fellon have more caps and more goals?
- 43:10SPEAKER_03: I'm not gonna ask about the wins.
- 43:13SPEAKER_01: Ooh.
- 43:15SPEAKER_01: I think he has he has less caps than you.
- 43:18SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and I think he has less goals.
- 43:20SPEAKER_01: And I also think he has less goals, otherwise you would not have asked it.
- 43:24SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 43:24SPEAKER_05: Arrogant fuck.
- 43:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because you're a very vague, arrogant guy coming from a game and takes one to no one.
- 43:33SPEAKER_03: He has he has less caps, he's got 208 caps, but he has more goals.
- 43:40SPEAKER_03: Oh he has uh six sixty-seven goals.
- 43:43SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's quite a lot.
- 43:45SPEAKER_03: I have sixty sixty-two.
- 43:51SPEAKER_05: Is that is that a lot of goals?
- 43:54SPEAKER_05: It's about one in three.
- 43:55SPEAKER_05: Is that a lot of goals for an international forward that is like so well?
- 44:00SPEAKER_03: renowned it's a good question I know his game's not I know his game's not you don't describe him as like an a natural like you wouldn't say he's like a goal scorer but you'd say he's a good player do you know what I mean so that's why I was kind of like working out like do you expect more from him or or yeah is that about the right number yeah I I think I I'd expect more from him how many goals does cherry bringman have that's a great question you're gonna he's known as like a goal scorer I do know that if you look up Tom Bones stats yeah I don't want to do that that they're ridiculous yeah you want to do that because that you'll be absolutely fucking mind blown I think someone looked it up and I think he has about 300 goals for Belgium that's not even kidding yeah he does he does um I I he he they celebrated it didn't they they they went into uh they gave him a big cello like last year because he hit 300 career goals so Thierry Brinkman actually that's a really good uh comparison is 206 games and so uh so Valen had 208 and Brinkman has 86 goals yeah see but Brinkman is the the difference is that Cherry is known as like a goal scorer that's like his forte yeah like he he he if you if you had to like sub describe him as a as a player you would say goal scoring like yeah but is that not surprising that you think he would have more than I think if you're almost one in two as a striker in international hockey you're doing quite well right yeah yeah yeah for sure without flicking without flicking like tombone also has a has a drag flick which adds a lot like let's say yeah I think I think if you score 86 goals in 200 taps you're doing quite well as a striker yeah for some reason I think in hockey I would think it would be higher but then it's because the drag flickers stats are so skewed yeah because you get so many so many chances the TMS is a bit annoying because it only starts from 2013 so tombo started way before that so it's the the it's not given his proper stats so I'll have to get them for next week I was gonna ask you like what do you think what do you think Blake Govers's goals to game ratio number is he also these go on sorry you he plays uh Papua New Guinea shit right so yeah yeah so that's so that's the question right so he's on 125 wins out of 175 games okay he's had 27 games where he's lost but the question is how many goals what's his goals to games ratio per game how many goals has he has 1.5 goals per game 1.5 goals so you you're saying over 175 games that he's got 200 and what is it crazy 280 goals roughly yeah okay 280 and I think he has 210 goals don't know that ratio Phil what's your what's your what are you thinking uh unfortunately mate I've seen it oh so I was just I was I was gonna I wanted to compare Tom Bones to Blake Govers's games to goal ratio because I reckon theirs is probably pretty close he's um Blake's on 162 goals so he's on 0.92 goals per game which when you actually break it down like yeah he's played against Papua New Guinea this that and the other but he still like scored some goals against some big teams yeah in 2022 he had more goals than games that's cool how many games did he play played 20 games and he scored 25 goals okay okay that's yeah not not like 40 goals not like the Tom Lugan season where he scored ridiculous amount but in 2020 I think I also scored same amount of goals as Gabs in internationally well I don't know this is good to listen to but this has been the first segment of of uh the game of more or less than LST what do you guys think I like it I'm all just like quite like there's going to be some niche stats around that we'll find and we'll stumble upon the more we play this what you're like maybe yeah maybe Brendan you can take the mantle on this because you love a good stat and percentage I do love a good stat.
- 48:24SPEAKER_03: I just went very basic with the uh with the uh wins caps and goals well I do think it's more impressive I don't want to keep banging on the you're drum but like I think for European teams it's so much more difficult to have like a good winning percentage and a good uh and a good amount of like um being able to do that against the best teams because I would say we hardly ever get these like chances to play against rubbish teams whereas you look at like the Argentinas and the and the um Australias and maybe even like the Asian teams when they're getting to play teams that are well below their rankings it's pretty hard to get your wins up there.
- 49:03SPEAKER_05: Just I probably my last remark on on that um in that like I was talking about that bracket of like ranking between 25 to 20 it's really really tight Chile went and played in a tournament against Bolivia Venezuela and someone else they won 35 nil this summer and gained ranking points off the back of it what world are we in where that's a fucking thing where you can go and play a team so shit win 35 nil and still get ranking points off it like what fucking world are we in that jumped them that win they won four points and they jumped three places in the rankings why they yeah why is the other team signing off on that because you why would you want that to be a cap game when you're gonna spanked because it was the Bolivian open invitational fill that's what it was it happens it happens it's sometimes it's tough to get invited to those tournaments yeah well we've got a little bit of time left you did you shall I jump in with the last thing or do you want to quickly pop up okay go ahead I also wanted to do this this very small thing it's called uh it's it's like a a mock trade machine and it's called who says no first so if you're the international coach and they give you this fake trade that suddenly you can swap players internationally we're just playing a bit of fun who who says no first okay so my first one is Jorick Krohn for Arthur Van Dessel so they have a the Belgians and Dutch have a chat who's who's saying no first to that Holland I get I get I get that because Van Dessel is younger and he's up and coming uh you would think um Holland but I think to be honest what has von Desso proven in on the international stage up until now fuck all to be honest like went to an Olympics and he went to a Euros and both they didn't make it past the quarters so like he's not proven yet he's he's uh I think he's a he's a he's an he can be an incredible player and he's really talented but I don't think he's in the same space as Joghurt right now Joghurt is only 27 he still has like four five six more year under years under his belt um I don't necessarily know if I agree with that um I think I would probably if I was Belgium I'd probably say no because I don't necessarily if I was looking at it from a Belgian point of view I think Arno suits their team and I don't necessarily know what Jorrit does because he's is he a defensive midfielder is he a is he a creative midfielder I don't know whereas Arno is their like one of their creative guys so I think it'd be like for them I don't think it makes sense bear in mind they're now rebuilding for the future whereas like Hollander are well old machine they don't necessarily need someone else coming in do you know what I mean that's like I think both teams are probably saying no if I'm honest.
- 52:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah I think so as well rather than one or the other well no because I agree it's a good it's a good trade though because it asks questions I do agree though that none of the teams would probably uh want it if that makes sense I think Belgium would say no but I think Holland would also say I I know Holland would say no but I don't think Belgium would want this trade to be honest.
- 52:25SPEAKER_01: You've spoken to the GM he knows I am the GM this also this might be an easy one Harman Priek and Hendricks India says no India says no a thousand percent I think Belgium would say yes in Harvey to be honest they would just put I think so they would put Artou de Slover on left back you have the best left back in the world they would have von Doren and Harman priet in the center and you have uh the that's I do think in in in in like practically it wouldn't work as well as you as you think so like in theory it looks really good but I don't know if it would be practical having like two of two of the like van Doren might still be the best free man in the world but he then it it had had to play have he he has to play like men marking yeah he has to change completely for Harman Freed going in I think Belgium is I think Belgium is saying yes but Arthur Van Doren's saying no but I think like how would that look like so Harman Prit is so good because he also has like he's like the president of of India yeah you know what I mean like he can do whatever the fuck he wants and he's he's he's he's the best player and he gets like if he doesn't want to run back he doesn't run back you know what I mean that wouldn't work in another team it only works in India mate that's not that's what I'm feeling yeah but he plays he rocks out for Belgium playing left wing and they're just like Harman you can't do that here mate get back to centre back get back mate oh that would be so good harmon at in Belgium like the most structured team in the world like or like Germany you know what I mean like a team that's so structured that's so set in their toe and then Harman brick just dribble through oh that would be great so good um Tom Grambush Nicholas della Torre it's also easy right yeah Argentina we should know okay I don't think there's much discussion on that one no I think I think like Della Torre is one of the uh he he all he always played striker and now he's like left back even center back sometimes he's one of the most unpressable guys uh uh in international hockey right now uh and Rambush I think is one of the most pressable guys in hockey there is because he doesn't want to run yeah he doesn't want to run he has he has the the best high ball by far in the whole all of international hockey is that since I yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah no but see no I'm seriously no firmly believe he has by far the best high ball in international hockey and it's not even close but I don't think if he if he gets pressed that he he he he thinks oh I'm just gonna run out of it you know what I mean yeah yeah yeah got no interest in moving those legs I think Germany would be a straightener as well you know they'd be no politically fast to disagree I think but you think the Germans would ship him off I think Germans would take that yeah because of the benefit of Della Torre not saying they don't rate Grambush but you you're gonna be tra you're gonna trade for an upgrade right yeah yeah yeah fair enough fair enough you might be sad to say bye but you're also happy that you're getting someone else who's coming in who's a bit of a baller maybe I'll start coming up with these where it's like who would say yes first make it really bitchy but like to be honest there is not a more just to think is there a more German player than Tom Grandbush true true is there a player who screams Germany more than Tom Grandbush I don't think there is yeah you're right okay yeah I mean yeah okay um yeah okay I'm not sure where to go with that all right I actually I've got one more brinkman Terry Brinkman or Tim Brand who says no first Holland I'd say Holland too I thought you're gonna go Terry Terry Brinkman to Tom Boone that would have been that would have thrown a cat amongst the pigeons yeah it's hard with you planning to probably stop putting Dutch people in there because he just no no you can you can't put Dutch people in but it's it's like also like it's uh like in in if you look at purely if you look objectively at it and you look purely from quality wise uh and you take away like he's also our captain he's he's the leader of our team he he he sets the tone in things and so I don't think Tim Brent could do that for us because he's Australian does speak our language and shit you know what I mean so that's why Holland would probably say no but like I yeah I tell you what this needs to be more become it's like what does a country need and like start making trades like that like you could actually come up with like a trade that would be like like like that's pretty efficient Tom Bone and Zach Wallace because then you get your drag flicker from for uh who can score goals for England but you lose your talisman but you lose the one who actually gets PC for you guys it's pretty it's pretty good but you you lose the fact that you're gaining a 35 year old and losing like a 26 year old so it'd be a I think it'd be a straight no from England.
- 58:04SPEAKER_05: But if you I understand your point maybe you could make maybe you could like tie that in better I know what you mean you know like like find someone who is like equal age groups because no one's getting rid of Z you say you say that you say that but like that that's the whole point of the trade right is there's got to be trade offs for it.
- 58:22SPEAKER_05: Like there's got to be like the positive side and the next like Della Toro for Zach would be an interesting one because he's a bit younger he's still got a bit of longevity.
- 58:32SPEAKER_03: He's the same age that's 37 just looks young it's the beard he elbows he elbowed Hendrix I think I don't think Delatolo would feel well in Belgium he he elbowed Hendrix or like uh or I think no he elbowed an Aussie he was getting into elbowed Henderson but he was fighting with uh Hendrix yeah it was funny that handbags man handbags right we are gonna I mean we've we've we've done a bit of a classic part two it's been a bit chaotic but it's been good fun um this has been yeah I mean we're gonna we're gonna end it there we'll hopefully be back for a little episode in a Spanish episode we can maybe get Brendan involved again Brendan it's been a pleasure to have you back um yeah it's been good to have you back Brendan fucking idiots we love you but this has been let's tick together brought to you by Y1 um we'll see you see you next time
