- 0:52Speaker 1: I'm Jeff Warren. I'm here at my co host, my
- 0:54Speaker 1: buddy Eric Leonard. How are you, my man?
- 0:57Speaker 2: Good? Uh?
- 0:58Speaker 3: Basketball practice tonight? Your typical Wednesday, yes, but yeah, but
- 1:03Speaker 3: but not a typical week.
- 1:07Speaker 4: Ah.
- 1:08Speaker 3: In between AI and Doc, there's there's Sylvia.
- 1:11Speaker 1: That there you go if you're watching on YouTube, Eric's
- 1:14Speaker 1: daughter who is probably going to be one of the
- 1:17Speaker 1: best dancers in the world when it's all said and done.
- 1:20Speaker 1: She's been doing it ever since she was a little girl.
- 1:23Speaker 1: And she's going off to college soon, graduating from high school,
- 1:26Speaker 1: going to college for dance as well. Folks, you're gonna
- 1:29Speaker 1: see her on Broadway probably music videos. And this is
- 1:34Speaker 1: a congratulations to her right now, right here on the
- 1:36Speaker 1: PST podcast show.
- 1:37Speaker 3: Yeah, attending University of Buffalo and the fall dance scholarship
- 1:41Speaker 3: and academic scholarship. I don't know whose kid she is
- 1:46Speaker 3: even close to any of that, but yeah, graduates Friday
- 1:49Speaker 3: night and she's just turned eighteen. And dude, it's such
- 1:53Speaker 3: a cliche, like it goes so fair, It really does.
- 1:56Speaker 3: It goes so fucking faculus just telling I was telling
- 2:00Speaker 3: there the other night, like I remember holding her two
- 2:03Speaker 3: thousand and seven when she was looking out at the
- 2:05Speaker 3: river she was born in Harrisburg, looking into the Susquehanna
- 2:08Speaker 3: River and just being like, it's a beautiful day, and
- 2:10Speaker 3: like that does not seem that long ago.
- 2:14Speaker 5: That's really crazy.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Yeah, and she I think we've mentioned it before.
- 2:18Speaker 1: I mean she was a baby at my wedding fifteen
- 2:21Speaker 1: years ago and in my gosh, just that was one
- 2:25Speaker 1: of those.
- 2:26Speaker 3: It was one of those weddings where no one else
- 2:28Speaker 3: had a kid except for us there. Yeah, it was
- 2:30Speaker 3: just like everyone's having fun and you know, we're going
- 2:32Speaker 3: back to the room and pumping dump and yeah I
- 2:39Speaker 3: had a full cart of just baby crap. Yes to
- 2:42Speaker 3: take four months. I think your wedding are three. She
- 2:45Speaker 3: was really tiny.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Yeah, it was. It was like yeah, yeah, July, so
- 2:54Speaker 2: we're old. We really are. Jesus God.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Yeah she's graduating.
- 2:59Speaker 1: I know now she's graduate, but it's it is a see.
- 3:02Speaker 1: I remember the I remember my twins' first birthday party.
- 3:06Speaker 1: It wasn't necessarily a celebration of them it's a celebration
- 3:09Speaker 1: of the parents, this graduation from high school. This should
- 3:13Speaker 1: also be a celebration for you and Sarah as well
- 3:16Speaker 1: at the end of the day, like it's a celebration
- 3:18Speaker 1: for the parents too. We actually did it. We made it.
- 3:20Speaker 1: She's going to be going off to college. We actually
- 3:23Speaker 1: were able to raise a human being, and that human
- 3:27Speaker 1: being is going to go off and do some great things.
- 3:29Speaker 2: So hats off to you and Sarah.
- 3:32Speaker 3: And doing better than what we did. Yes, right, isn't
- 3:35Speaker 3: that the whole goal?
- 3:35Speaker 2: Much better? Yes?
- 3:36Speaker 3: Yes, she's such a better person than I am.
- 3:38Speaker 5: Yes, not close.
- 3:39Speaker 2: So oh, just whistling Dixie.
- 3:45Speaker 3: All right, that's I'm going to notch that one down.
- 3:47Speaker 2: There you go, There you go.
- 3:48Speaker 3: That's number one, Shase Jeff one.
- 3:52Speaker 1: All right. We got a great show, got some really
- 3:56Speaker 1: really interesting topics and very topical topic to get into
- 4:01Speaker 1: Eagles in their offseason moves. We're going to get into
- 4:05Speaker 1: a discussion, of course, on the Bryce Huff trade, Bryce
- 4:09Speaker 1: Huff heading to the San Francisco forty nine ers after
- 4:11Speaker 1: Howie Roseman Wheelham deal and as he usually does, and
- 4:15Speaker 1: we're also going to talk about in terms of the
- 4:17Speaker 1: Eagles offseason here. This underlying storyline about how the Eagles
- 4:22Speaker 1: now have thirteen draft picks next year and the weakest
- 4:26Speaker 1: unit heading into this regular season is probably the safety
- 4:29Speaker 1: position after losing CJ. Gardner Johnson, is how he actually
- 4:33Speaker 1: going to make another move, possibly whether it's in training
- 4:35Speaker 1: camp or right before the regular season, starts utilizing these
- 4:39Speaker 1: assets in order to bring in some high caliber or
- 4:43Speaker 1: veteran talent perhaps at the safety position. From there, Eric
- 4:47Speaker 1: and I are going to dive into some NBA talk.
- 4:49Speaker 1: We're going to get into the Nick's baffling decision, in
- 4:52Speaker 1: my opinion, to fire Tom Thibodeau. My goodness, can't believe
- 4:57Speaker 1: he's not there anymore after what he did for that
- 5:00Speaker 1: organization and team after these few years. Here, we're also
- 5:03Speaker 1: going to get into a discussion about the NBA Finals
- 5:05Speaker 1: and give some predictions there. And then before we get
- 5:09Speaker 1: to what we're throwing down on the table this week,
- 5:11Speaker 1: which is going to be a ton of Phillies talk,
- 5:13Speaker 1: Eric and I are going to dive into a story
- 5:15Speaker 1: that we saw in The Athletic this past week where
- 5:18Speaker 1: an unruly sports fan, actually a horrendous human being, was
- 5:22Speaker 1: actually making threats against Astro's pitcher Lance McCuller Junior's family
- 5:29Speaker 1: after an outing last month, and we're just going to
- 5:31Speaker 1: talk about some unruly fan behavior and just how crappy
- 5:35Speaker 1: fans are and can be from time to time. So
- 5:38Speaker 1: that's our agenda, that's what we're getting into, and like
- 5:41Speaker 1: I said, we are going to be thrown down on
- 5:42Speaker 1: the table some Phillies talk. We've got first time guests
- 5:46Speaker 1: Michael Fisher from that Balls out of here dot com.
- 5:48Speaker 1: He's going to join us to dive into some Phillies storylines.
- 5:51Speaker 1: But Eric, Buddy, let's start off with some Eagles talk here,
- 5:55Speaker 1: specifically Howie Roseman trading Bryce Huff to the San Francisco
- 5:59Speaker 1: for nine ers for some future draft capital.
- 6:03Speaker 3: The I.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Said, I always say with Howie, it's like I can't
- 6:08Speaker 1: believe he did it. I should start believing it at
- 6:10Speaker 1: this point. I just didn't think that somebody was going
- 6:13Speaker 1: to take Bryce Huff after the season he had last year.
- 6:17Speaker 1: And yes, he is being reunited with Robert Sala where
- 6:20Speaker 1: he saw success when both of those gentlemen were in
- 6:23Speaker 1: New York playing for the Jets. But the fact that
- 6:26Speaker 1: Howie was really able to offload him as a talent
- 6:30Speaker 1: on the team, if you want to call him that.
- 6:31Speaker 1: He was an active for the Super Bowl and just
- 6:34Speaker 1: did nothing down the stretch for the team. But the
- 6:37Speaker 1: fact of the matter is this is going to result
- 6:39Speaker 1: in the Eagles taking on four point nine million in
- 6:42Speaker 1: dead money this year. They're going to defer sixteen point
- 6:46Speaker 1: six million to next season, and there's a lot of
- 6:50Speaker 1: chatter about the Eagles now creating over fifteen million dollars
- 6:53Speaker 1: in space this year. The reality is Huff's original cap
- 6:57Speaker 1: number was just seven point four million, so really the
- 6:59Speaker 1: team is only about two point four million better off
- 7:02Speaker 1: than originally expected.
- 7:03Speaker 2: So it's gonna be about four or about.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Five million dollars worse off in twenty twenty six than
- 7:09Speaker 1: his original contract salary cap number. And I think they're
- 7:13Speaker 1: gonna get something like the Eagles will about a two
- 7:16Speaker 1: hundred and fifty thousand dollars cap credit in twenty twenty
- 7:19Speaker 1: six for a guaranteed workout bonus workout bonus. So after
- 7:24Speaker 1: all that gibberish, folks that I just said, end of
- 7:26Speaker 1: the day, no, Josh Huff, Yes, they're gonna have to
- 7:30Speaker 1: eat some money. It's not gonna be as terrible as
- 7:32Speaker 1: what this contract initially was, and they're gonna end up
- 7:36Speaker 1: getting a twenty twenty six conditional fifth round pick that
- 7:40Speaker 1: could turn into a fourth round pick with conditions tied
- 7:42Speaker 1: to Bryce Huff's performance. So again, I was surprised by
- 7:47Speaker 1: it that it actually got done, Eric, I shouldn't be
- 7:50Speaker 1: surprised at this point, because Howie Roseman has gotten to
- 7:52Speaker 1: a point where he's able to offload contracts, talent, he's
- 7:56Speaker 1: able to get deals done, and I mean that's really
- 7:59Speaker 1: the theme of what we're going to be talking about
- 8:01Speaker 1: here in terms of our Eagles discussion. So were you
- 8:03Speaker 1: surprised at all by this or was this something where
- 8:05Speaker 1: you were like, you know, what part of the course
- 8:07Speaker 1: here with how he.
- 8:10Speaker 3: I think we have to start just recognizing it's just
- 8:14Speaker 3: part for the course for this organization as long as
- 8:16Speaker 3: how He's running it. Two thoughts. One, I'm really I
- 8:22Speaker 3: think it's kind of kind of fitting that you unknowingly
- 8:26Speaker 3: name dropped another Eagles disappointment, Josh Houff.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Oh did I say Josh Hoff?
- 8:30Speaker 3: Yeah? Yeah, But it made sense because Josh Huff wasn't
- 8:34Speaker 3: very good and we thought he was going to be Yeah,
- 8:37Speaker 3: and Bryce stuff was a higher level of what we thought,
- 8:40Speaker 3: you know, it was going to be really good for
- 8:42Speaker 3: this team. They moved on from their sack leader of
- 8:46Speaker 3: twenty twenty three to get to get Huff, Yeah and Huff,
- 8:51Speaker 3: Like Huff literally did nothing besides taking our money. I mean,
- 8:55Speaker 3: if you added up, it was a seventeen million dollars
- 8:57Speaker 3: guaranteed pay day for him for the with the Eagles,
- 9:02Speaker 3: some dead cap money, some savings there. But I can
- 9:05Speaker 3: just speak to like I can just speak to his
- 9:08Speaker 3: performance on the field. There's not much to say. He
- 9:11Speaker 3: started six games. I looked up his stats for the year,
- 9:14Speaker 3: pretty pretty brief, pretty brief examination.
- 9:17Speaker 1: There wasn't much, no, not at all, and just how
- 9:21Speaker 1: many games, how many snaps was he just on his
- 9:24Speaker 1: ass or on the ground, And You're like, what is
- 9:27Speaker 1: happening here with this guy? He only played in twelve
- 9:30Speaker 1: total games, started six, had two sacks, and I think
- 9:34Speaker 1: eleven tackles total for a guy that you know was
- 9:38Speaker 1: supposed to come in and kind of shore up the
- 9:41Speaker 1: edge position for the Eagles.
- 9:43Speaker 3: Didn't need him. Thank God, I still want a Super Bowl.
- 9:46Speaker 3: My other thought is, you know how when players retire
- 9:50Speaker 3: or leave a city after like a long time, Like
- 9:51Speaker 3: I'm just thinking like when Reese Hoskins left the Phillies
- 9:54Speaker 3: for the Brewers, I think he took out a full
- 9:56Speaker 3: page ad or like a like a something in city saying, hey,
- 10:00Speaker 3: thank you so much. Yep, this I'm just gonna call it.
- 10:04Speaker 3: This asshole should have done the same thing for us
- 10:07Speaker 3: and said, Hey, Philly, thank you so much for a ring.
- 10:10Speaker 3: I didn't deserve it. I didn't do shit, but thank
- 10:13Speaker 3: you anyway. Because he was kind of a douchebag this
- 10:15Speaker 3: past season.
- 10:15Speaker 5: Yeah, he was.
- 10:16Speaker 3: He was the one guy I kind of lost my
- 10:18Speaker 3: shit on because not only did he suck, didn't perform
- 10:22Speaker 3: at all for the for the money we paid him,
- 10:24Speaker 3: he was also moaning and groaning on Instagram over it.
- 10:26Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, and it's like, what are you upset about? Yeah,
- 10:29Speaker 3: you suck. We gave you money and you're not good,
- 10:32Speaker 3: and you're upset with us every other player on the
- 10:36Speaker 3: ground in the franchise, Like, go fuck yourself with me.
- 10:42Speaker 3: He's one of my least favorite Eagles of all time.
- 10:43Speaker 3: Thank god he's gone. But like, it's hard to even
- 10:47Speaker 3: think of a comparison of disappointing stars that were also
- 10:53Speaker 3: kind of jerks at the same time, Like I remember
- 10:55Speaker 3: when they fit the Philly sign Lance Parish back in
- 10:58Speaker 3: the day in the early nineties, and everyone's like, oh,
- 11:00Speaker 3: here we go. I think he got hurt like almost immediately,
- 11:03Speaker 3: or there was another guy too, I think I can't
- 11:06Speaker 3: think of it now, but he's he's one of those
- 11:09Speaker 3: like all time top ten, like came in, got paid
- 11:13Speaker 3: a ton of money, was a jerk, left, got a ring,
- 11:17Speaker 3: and he's in a classes of his own because no
- 11:19Speaker 3: one has rings on that list except for him.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Right right exactly.
- 11:24Speaker 1: It really, it really is amazing though at the end
- 11:26Speaker 1: of the day, how how he was really able to
- 11:28Speaker 1: get this get this deal done. But you know it
- 11:32Speaker 1: leads into the next part of the discussion about what
- 11:37Speaker 1: else how he is going to do for this Eagles
- 11:39Speaker 1: team During this offseason, OTAs have started, and again, as
- 11:43Speaker 1: I mentioned at the top, that underlying storyline. Now, with
- 11:47Speaker 1: the Eagles having their thirteen draft picks, the weakest link
- 11:50Speaker 1: on the defense, the quote weakest link on the team
- 11:55Speaker 1: is probably at the safety position, and you have to
- 11:58Speaker 1: wonder if how he's going to make a deal and
- 12:00Speaker 1: trade to bring in some solid veteran safety presence, perhaps
- 12:05Speaker 1: using some of those draft picks. This year, Eric, and
- 12:08Speaker 1: I think it's I think it is very possible that
- 12:10Speaker 1: we will see that. I think that it's possible. It
- 12:13Speaker 1: may not be the safety position, but I think he's
- 12:15Speaker 1: going to The Eagles are not picking thirteen players next year.
- 12:19Speaker 1: You know, he is going to constantly look at how
- 12:21Speaker 1: to make this team better, How and what ways, whether
- 12:24Speaker 1: it's weak length, whether it's depth as well at certain positions.
- 12:28Speaker 1: How am I going to make this team better? Of course,
- 12:31Speaker 1: there are rumors about Kyle Pitts and him possibly getting
- 12:35Speaker 1: traded from the Falcons to the Eagles. We've seen those rumors.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Who knows if they're true or not. Something like that.
- 12:41Speaker 1: It wouldn't surprise me, like we're saying, nothing surprises us anymore.
- 12:45Speaker 1: With Howie, if he's going to get the upper hand
- 12:48Speaker 1: in some way, he's going to do it. I think
- 12:51Speaker 1: we're going to see something like this. Honestly, I think
- 12:53Speaker 1: we are going to see a veteran safety coming in
- 12:56Speaker 1: probably during training camp.
- 12:58Speaker 2: You know.
- 12:58Speaker 1: It's like kind of how they acquired CJ. Gardner Johnson
- 13:01Speaker 1: the first time around, and when he just kind of
- 13:04Speaker 1: came out of the clear blue, we had no idea
- 13:06Speaker 1: what was going to happen how we used some assets
- 13:08Speaker 1: to get him and bring him to the Eagles and
- 13:12Speaker 1: it ended up working out the second time. For sure,
- 13:15Speaker 1: I can see how we doing this again, probably around
- 13:18Speaker 1: training camp, using some of these draft picks in a
- 13:20Speaker 1: package to bring some veteran presence to this team at
- 13:23Speaker 1: the safety possession.
- 13:24Speaker 2: I don't know what are your thoughts here, Yeah.
- 13:27Speaker 3: You going back to what I said earlier about how
- 13:29Speaker 3: he like nothing everything's on the table with him. Yeah,
- 13:31Speaker 3: that's kind of part for the course. I'm hoping to
- 13:36Speaker 3: shore up that position we have kind of I hope
- 13:39Speaker 3: he tries to go the route of an acquisition. There
- 13:43Speaker 3: are some players out there that have not been signed yet.
- 13:45Speaker 3: I was looking through the list, Marcus Williams, Justin Simmons.
- 13:49Speaker 3: I think the guy's name is some older late twenties,
- 13:52Speaker 3: early thirty safeties that were good for a small period
- 13:56Speaker 3: of time but kind of busted out of of the league. Yeah.
- 14:02Speaker 3: I mean, the fact I'm not signed right now is
- 14:04Speaker 3: not a great sign. But you know they've also signed
- 14:07Speaker 3: some players off the quote scrap heap, and look what
- 14:10Speaker 3: happened with some of them, right, Yeah, So those I
- 14:14Speaker 3: think guys like that are a possibility, but again I'm
- 14:16Speaker 3: hoping they go the acquisition route. You know, I gotta
- 14:21Speaker 3: say CJ. Garner Johnson, He's the opposite of Huff for me,
- 14:27Speaker 3: Like has two runs with the Eagles. Both were really
- 14:30Speaker 3: damn good one year each, by the way, one each,
- 14:34Speaker 3: and we got rid of him both. Yes, for both
- 14:37Speaker 3: of them, I got us a ring.
- 14:38Speaker 5: He was.
- 14:39Speaker 3: It was a key contributor throughout the season, not so
- 14:41Speaker 3: much in the Super Bowl. But I know it was
- 14:43Speaker 3: a cap casualty kind of situation. But I'm hoping they
- 14:49Speaker 3: can find not just a scrap heap kind of player
- 14:52Speaker 3: and where you're rolling the dice, maybe someone more of
- 14:54Speaker 3: like the caliber of a CG. Maybe Garner Johnson comes
- 14:56Speaker 3: back again by the beginning of season. Who they held knows,
- 15:02Speaker 3: but yeah, I think you know, heat football money's so weird.
- 15:08Speaker 3: Like I know they're probably like, this is how much
- 15:10Speaker 3: cap space they have. It's like, no, they don't. They
- 15:13Speaker 3: have more. They don't have They're not like the Cowboys
- 15:16Speaker 3: where it's etched in stone like this is how much
- 15:18Speaker 3: these four guys make. Yeah, and we're right up against it.
- 15:21Speaker 3: The cap goes up every year. The Eagles somehow always
- 15:23Speaker 3: have like oh, we have twelve million dollars now, yeah, okay, magic, Well.
- 15:28Speaker 1: I mean that's what then and I talked about last
- 15:29Speaker 1: week and I talked about it with BLG two from
- 15:31Speaker 1: Bleating Green Nation dot com just about how the NFL
- 15:34Speaker 1: is actually going to be investigating the salary cap system itself,
- 15:38Speaker 1: and it's because of the Philadelphia Eagles mainly that Goodell
- 15:43Speaker 1: is going to be looking into. Okay, certain teams are
- 15:46Speaker 1: manipulating just putting their guaranteed money right out of the gate,
- 15:50Speaker 1: restructuring contracts because of guaranteed money and you know backed,
- 15:56Speaker 1: you know, the backload some of the contract and just
- 16:00Speaker 1: keep doing that over and over. So is the cap
- 16:04Speaker 1: system the spirit? Is it working?
- 16:06Speaker 5: Like?
- 16:06Speaker 1: That's what they're going to be looking at. And the
- 16:08Speaker 1: Eagles do it better than anybody else out there.
- 16:11Speaker 3: I think it's hilarious that the NFL is going to
- 16:14Speaker 3: investigate something they created. Yes, I know because with them
- 16:19Speaker 3: and the owners and the players union, Yes, they created this.
- 16:23Speaker 3: But we're going to do an internal investigation. What you
- 16:26Speaker 3: don't have to You did it, You made it, yes,
- 16:28Speaker 3: So what the hell's the investigation for you already created?
- 16:32Speaker 5: It makes sense?
- 16:33Speaker 3: God, that's funny I mean, the NFL just prints money,
- 16:38Speaker 3: so it doesn't really matter, right, it doesn't, but it's
- 16:41Speaker 3: just it just the level of the feels of incompetency.
- 16:47Speaker 3: But yet they just print. They just there, They're sitting
- 16:50Speaker 3: on a mint at all times.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Eric, Eric, we'renard late forties and something I've realized in life,
- 16:56Speaker 1: and it's taken me a while that as rich as
- 16:59Speaker 1: folks are, and because of that rich richness, because of
- 17:03Speaker 1: that wealth, it doesn't matter who you You can be
- 17:05Speaker 1: the most incompetent individual or group of people and you
- 17:10Speaker 1: can still have the authority, the power, the wherewithal to
- 17:15Speaker 1: be able to do just about anything you want if
- 17:18Speaker 1: you have so much money, and you can still run
- 17:21Speaker 1: things such so incompetently.
- 17:24Speaker 3: And I will add, you can also be a fucking idiot,
- 17:27Speaker 3: oh yes, and come out on top financially, Yes, a
- 17:32Speaker 3: complete dunderheaded moron, and you could be rich as hell,
- 17:38Speaker 3: and it does it doesn't matter how stupid you are.
- 17:42Speaker 3: You know, there's just there's there's there's certain situations you're
- 17:46Speaker 3: born into and you just kind of keep rolling. You know,
- 17:49Speaker 3: you step in ship, you start smelling like roses exactly exactly.
- 17:52Speaker 3: I'm not referencing anything you know specifically, right right.
- 17:56Speaker 2: I mean we've heard the phrase before.
- 17:57Speaker 1: You know, people are born on third base, you know, man,
- 18:00Speaker 1: they think they're born on first.
- 18:02Speaker 3: But no, look, can I okay, here's a great example.
- 18:06Speaker 3: I don't know the guy. I don't know if he's intelligent.
- 18:07Speaker 3: I don't know if he want the Harvard but Al
- 18:10Speaker 3: Davis's kid, Oh Raiders. He looks like Humpty dumpty. His
- 18:16Speaker 3: haircut is really bizarre. It is billionaire.
- 18:19Speaker 2: It's horrendous.
- 18:20Speaker 3: He looks. He looks like if you looked up idiot
- 18:24Speaker 3: in the in the dictionary online, his face would come
- 18:27Speaker 3: up in his dumb hair Hairdo I think he's stupid?
- 18:31Speaker 3: I think because his name is Al Davis Junior or whatever.
- 18:33Speaker 3: I think that's why he's rich. Yeah, he's a he's
- 18:36Speaker 3: a good example. I think of what we're discussing here.
- 18:38Speaker 2: All right, very good? All right, Well, I think I
- 18:40Speaker 2: think I think we're gonna need to take a break here.
- 18:44Speaker 3: It turned into making one of the looks of the
- 18:46Speaker 3: Raiders exactly that.
- 18:48Speaker 2: His dumb haircut.
- 18:50Speaker 3: It drives me crazy. It's the worst he could pay.
- 18:54Speaker 3: He could pay ten thousand dollars for the greatest barber
- 18:57Speaker 3: in the world to come to his office and do it.
- 18:59Speaker 3: He doesn't have to leave. And that's what he came
- 19:01Speaker 3: up with, Like, you could be stupid, you could beat
- 19:05Speaker 3: my trash and you still have tons of money. It
- 19:08Speaker 3: doesn't matter, doesn't Yeah, So.
- 19:11Speaker 1: We can keep going on about this. I can keep
- 19:14Speaker 1: going and going and going. But yeses where we are
- 19:18Speaker 1: gonna have to take a break, folks.
- 19:19Speaker 2: But before we do.

- 21:11Speaker 1: at gmail dot com love to read your email here
- 21:13Speaker 1: on the show and respond to it. Let's dive into
- 21:17Speaker 1: some NBA talk here. The Knicks, my gosh, Eric, the
- 21:21Speaker 1: Knicks decided, and it was just so baffling when I
- 21:25Speaker 1: saw the breaking news come by to my phone via
- 21:29Speaker 1: notification they fire Tom Thibodeau, and I was like, is
- 21:34Speaker 1: this I'm like, is this real?
- 21:36Speaker 2: Okay?
- 21:37Speaker 1: He just took the New York Knicks to their first
- 21:41Speaker 1: Eastern Conference Final appearance in twenty five years. He led
- 21:45Speaker 1: the Knicks to the playoffs in four of his five
- 21:48Speaker 1: seasons at the Helmets head coach, and won fifty plus
- 21:52Speaker 1: games in consecutive seasons for the first time since the
- 21:55Speaker 1: nineteen nineties. And they were like, you know what, sorry,
- 21:59Speaker 1: not good enough. Off you didn't get to the finals.
- 22:02Speaker 1: See you later, Tom. I I genuinely, I was genuinely, like,
- 22:08Speaker 1: had feels of being upset for Knicks fans, even though
- 22:12Speaker 1: we are not Knicks fans at all. You know, our
- 22:14Speaker 1: buddy Dave certainly is. But my gosh, I was utterly
- 22:19Speaker 1: shocked by this. Not we're not shocked by Howie Roseman anymore,
- 22:22Speaker 1: utterly shocked by this that James Dolan could make a
- 22:25Speaker 1: decision like this.
- 22:26Speaker 2: I don't know. Were you shocked?
- 22:29Speaker 3: No, it's not because of the performance or anything. If
- 22:34Speaker 3: you're if you're aware of the Knicks front office dynamics.
- 22:38Speaker 3: It's not it's not crazy that it happened, because, like
- 22:42Speaker 3: the writing was on the wall very soon after game
- 22:45Speaker 3: the game six loss. Yeah, multiple articles reports came out
- 22:52Speaker 3: about the Knicks demise, and the two biggest things that
- 22:56Speaker 3: were mentioned in every article were uh uh Towns, Caro
- 23:02Speaker 3: Anthony Towns and Thibodeau the coach. And like I said,
- 23:06Speaker 3: if you know anything about dynamics of the front office world,
- 23:09Speaker 3: why West is the head of basketball operations for the Knicks.
- 23:13Speaker 3: He is part of the Villanova creue. He's been around
- 23:17Speaker 3: for a long time. He is Jalen Brunson and all
- 23:21Speaker 3: the villain of the guys on that team. He's he's
- 23:23Speaker 3: part of that crew. Jalen Brunson's dad is an assistant
- 23:28Speaker 3: coach under Tom Thibodeau. I doubt that was Tom Thibodeau's decision. Uh,
- 23:34Speaker 3: I don't think. I'm sure. Jalen Brunt is a good man.
- 23:37Speaker 3: Senior is a good man. Or Brunt's dad is a
- 23:38Speaker 3: nice man and he knows basketball. But kind of bizarre
- 23:41Speaker 3: that he all of a sudden got an assistant coaching job,
- 23:43Speaker 3: you know in the NBA. Yeah, uh, just there were
- 23:48Speaker 3: like two outsiders in this entire breakdown of the Knicks franchise.
- 23:54Speaker 3: You know that they were expected to go to the finals.
- 23:56Speaker 3: I think they go to the finals. Tom Thibodeaux and
- 23:59Speaker 3: Towns are just fine. The way they blew the first
- 24:02Speaker 3: two games and then lost in game six and just
- 24:05Speaker 3: got blown out, somebody has got to pay the price.
- 24:08Speaker 3: And it certainly wasn't going to be anyone from the
- 24:10Speaker 3: Villanova gang. You know, wasn't gonna be a word. Why
- 24:13Speaker 3: wes none of the players? You had two outsiders, Thibodeau
- 24:18Speaker 3: and Towns. You can't fire Towns because you as a contract.
- 24:21Speaker 3: Tom Thibodeau gets the acts. I think it's as simple
- 24:25Speaker 3: as that.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Towns and the accountability. I think that he needs to
- 24:31Speaker 1: go through and show at least Knicks fans with his
- 24:35Speaker 1: play in the playoffs. And what I mean by that
- 24:38Speaker 1: is if you go back and you watch some of
- 24:41Speaker 1: those games, the irresponsible fouls constantly, you know, and that's
- 24:47Speaker 1: a storyline coming.
- 24:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:49Speaker 1: I mean, he's he's thirty feet away from the ball
- 24:52Speaker 1: and and he's being called for a foul. You know
- 24:57Speaker 1: it's and of course that's not Tom Thibodeaux. I completely
- 25:00Speaker 1: get what you're saying it's not Tom Thibodeau's fault though
- 25:04Speaker 1: that you have you have a player that you brought
- 25:06Speaker 1: in this past year playing that irresponsibly. There needs to
- 25:10Speaker 1: be some sort of repercussion for that. There needs to
- 25:12Speaker 1: be accountability at some at some level for for Karl
- 25:17Speaker 1: Anthony Towns. Because of that, you can't you can't have
- 25:21Speaker 1: that going into this next season if they want to
- 25:24Speaker 1: try to get back to the Eastern Conference finals, which
- 25:26Speaker 1: is gonna be it's gonna be tough to do in
- 25:28Speaker 1: this Eastern Conference.
- 25:31Speaker 3: Yeah, unless your honest has treated the Western Conference things, Mike,
- 25:34Speaker 3: for your Tatum's done for next year. Two. The Sixers
- 25:37Speaker 3: are a shithole. So that's that's out of the question.
- 25:41Speaker 3: We'll see you keep seeing. I think I know where
- 25:47Speaker 3: I'm at. Ask yourself this question though, like what what if?
- 25:50Speaker 3: What if Jay Wright was the head coach and this
- 25:53Speaker 3: went down and they didn't lose in quite a powerful fashion.
- 25:58Speaker 3: I doubt Jay Wright gets fired because he's part of
- 26:01Speaker 3: the whole. Yeah, yeah, they, I mean, the Knicks just
- 26:07Speaker 3: have some issues, Like so they just fired the coach,
- 26:10Speaker 3: who they hell knows who the next coach is. You
- 26:12Speaker 3: have Karl Anthony Towns who you just said, if I
- 26:16Speaker 3: had a player foul a guy thirty feet from the ball,
- 26:21Speaker 3: my team's up and I'm coaching twelve year old boys. Yeah,
- 26:24Speaker 3: get listen, get your ass on the bench. I will
- 26:28Speaker 3: talk to you later. You will go into second half.
- 26:32Speaker 3: I have to calm down because I want to scream
- 26:34Speaker 3: at you because that's stupid. Yeah, this is an NBA
- 26:36Speaker 3: player making fifty millions somebody, somebody. I'm sure there's YouTube
- 26:41Speaker 3: clips out there as someone like compiled together of his dumb, irresponsible,
- 26:46Speaker 3: shitty fouls off ball. I've never seen a player that dumb,
- 26:51Speaker 3: Like maybe in the late seventies when Coch Cat the
- 26:53Speaker 3: players took cocaine and we're just doing crazy shit on
- 26:55Speaker 3: the court right and after games. But this guy, like,
- 26:58Speaker 3: I don't know what the hell goes on in his head.
- 27:01Speaker 3: He's he's, he's, he's. They're on the hook for like
- 27:03Speaker 3: four more years of this dude. Yes, I don't know
- 27:05Speaker 3: who's going to take his contract on, So you probably
- 27:07Speaker 3: have him next year. You're the same team next year,
- 27:11Speaker 3: and I you're gonna have to bring in another villanova
- 27:15Speaker 3: guy as the coach because if I'm if I'm a
- 27:19Speaker 3: potential head coach. I'm coming in, Like, am I get.
- 27:23Speaker 5: Fired two years?
- 27:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't make this if I don't turn this
- 27:26Speaker 3: around because I'm not part of the crew. I don't know.
- 27:29Speaker 3: It's it's amazing how they made the Eastern Conference finals.
- 27:32Speaker 3: God bless them. I wanted them to win. I would
- 27:34Speaker 3: love to see either Minnesota Okay see played them in
- 27:38Speaker 3: the finals.
- 27:38Speaker 2: Yeah, but.
- 27:41Speaker 3: They got to the finals two wins away from going
- 27:43Speaker 3: there and now it's a Now it's a disaster.
- 27:48Speaker 2: It's incredible.
- 27:49Speaker 3: It really feels like it did because they're they're totally
- 27:51Speaker 3: capped out. They have to resign Bridges somehow. He's going
- 27:56Speaker 3: to cost like the the second Apron. Like all that
- 27:58Speaker 3: tax crap in the NBA money is just as crazy
- 28:01Speaker 3: as the NFL money. Like they're going to be on
- 28:03Speaker 3: the hook for like James Dolan and his lose band.
- 28:06Speaker 3: I'm gonna be on the hook for like one hundred
- 28:07Speaker 3: and fifty million just in tax money there some crazy number, yeah,
- 28:10Speaker 3: because of the how it works. But like it's just funny,
- 28:13Speaker 3: like how one look at the Sixers this year had
- 28:16Speaker 3: a great season before we're going in and we're going
- 28:19Speaker 3: to this season coming up I was like, man, I
- 28:20Speaker 3: got PG thirteen, this is it? Yeah, and whoaf like
- 28:25Speaker 3: down for the count like so fast. And then that's
- 28:28Speaker 3: how quickly the NBA can switch, because now the Knicks
- 28:30Speaker 3: looks like they're in like in turmoil, even they just
- 28:32Speaker 3: almost went to the finals.
- 28:34Speaker 1: Yes, and by the way, the semifinals, you're thinking, wow,
- 28:37Speaker 1: this team, I don't know if they can be stopped,
- 28:39Speaker 1: you know, when they were in the semifinals, and then
- 28:41Speaker 1: like you said, all of a sudden just turns on
- 28:44Speaker 1: a dime.
- 28:45Speaker 2: And because they were going.
- 28:46Speaker 3: To beat the Celtics even if Tayden didn't get hurt. Yeah,
- 28:48Speaker 3: like they had that game. They came back in the
- 28:50Speaker 3: first two games. And when they lost that first game,
- 28:55Speaker 3: I was like, oh this ain't good. Yeah, like yeah, yeah.
- 29:00Speaker 2: All right, and fuck them they're in the way of
- 29:02Speaker 2: the sea exactly.
- 29:04Speaker 5: All right.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Well, let's now get into some quick NBA Finals predictions here,
- 29:10Speaker 1: as the Oklahoma City Thunder had taken on the Indiana Pacers,
- 29:14Speaker 1: a matchup that the the NBA front offices probably didn't
- 29:18Speaker 1: want to happen. But hey, we're here right now at
- 29:21Speaker 1: this point. I think for me, when when you know,
- 29:24Speaker 1: when this series starts when this finals starts. I think
- 29:29Speaker 1: the one matchup to really watch is Indiana's turnover avoidance
- 29:35Speaker 1: that they have had for much of this season regular
- 29:39Speaker 1: season and postseason against the Thunder's turnover creation. So I
- 29:45Speaker 1: was reading on Yahoo Sports about this a little more
- 29:48Speaker 1: thought it was really interesting. So in both the regular
- 29:51Speaker 1: season and playoffs, no team has forced turnovers on a
- 29:55Speaker 1: higher share of opponents possessions than the Thunder. Who's you know,
- 29:59Speaker 1: we know how intensely physical they play, and the ball
- 30:04Speaker 1: pressure has produced one of the best defenses in recent memory.
- 30:08Speaker 1: But in both the regular season and playoffs, the Pacers
- 30:11Speaker 1: have owned the NBA's third lowest turnover rate. It's a
- 30:15Speaker 1: massive reason why that when they got healthy back in December,
- 30:19Speaker 1: they've also owned one of the five or so best
- 30:22Speaker 1: offenses in the league. You've got a strength here with
- 30:26Speaker 1: the Pacers and a strength here with the Oklahoma City
- 30:28Speaker 1: Thunder that is going to be clashing, and I think
- 30:31Speaker 1: that is a major matchup for us to watch. And
- 30:34Speaker 1: I think at the end of the day, for me,
- 30:37Speaker 1: I think the Thunder are going to end up winning
- 30:39Speaker 1: this in six games. That's my prediction here, and a
- 30:42Speaker 1: lot of it is going to be based on turnovers.
- 30:45Speaker 1: I really think it's going to be their turnover creation
- 30:48Speaker 1: that the Thunder has. I don't know if Indiana, as
- 30:50Speaker 1: well as they've done throughout this season, are going to
- 30:53Speaker 1: really be able to match up too too well against it.
- 30:55Speaker 1: So I'm going Thunder in six games. What are your
- 30:59Speaker 1: thoughts here in terms of what you're going to be
- 31:00Speaker 1: watching for.
- 31:04Speaker 3: I mean, it's a great match and number one whenever
- 31:08Speaker 3: too small club like too small town or you know,
- 31:12Speaker 3: smaller franchises meet up on the finals and you see
- 31:15Speaker 3: people online like I'm sure the league's not happy about that,
- 31:18Speaker 3: Like they don't care. Come on, man, the league makes it.
- 31:21Speaker 3: You had a ton of money. It's on TV. They
- 31:24Speaker 3: have a new television deal coming. And as a fan,
- 31:28Speaker 3: I can't stand those people just to me that you
- 31:30Speaker 3: don't watch the games. You're just all who like just
- 31:33Speaker 3: wants to make fun of two smaller franchises. If you
- 31:36Speaker 3: watch basketball, you know these two teams are really fun
- 31:38Speaker 3: to watch, really highly talented, smart teams too. They have
- 31:44Speaker 3: two phenomenal head coaches and and and they have really
- 31:49Speaker 3: smart players and they're super duper talented. So screw those people.
- 31:54Speaker 3: I don't like that at all. Well, it reminds you
- 31:58Speaker 3: like when the Bengals played they play the Rams in
- 32:01Speaker 3: the Super Bowl. Yeah yeah, and you know we're people
- 32:05Speaker 3: like Cincinnati who small town.
- 32:08Speaker 2: Yeah, this rule is gonna suck now, right.
- 32:10Speaker 3: Like right, they only they only do it with like
- 32:13Speaker 3: baseball and other It makes no sense, but whatever, And
- 32:18Speaker 3: you're you're dead on right about the Pacers and the turnovers.
- 32:20Speaker 3: I can't but like I think it was game three
- 32:22Speaker 3: or game four. That was game game three when Haliburton,
- 32:26Speaker 3: Haliburton for the Pacers had thirty two points, I think
- 32:29Speaker 3: fifteen assists, zero turnovers, and eight rebounds.
- 32:32Speaker 5: Yes, that's like.
- 32:33Speaker 3: Hall of Fame level numbers. Crazy, Yes, but not have
- 32:37Speaker 3: a single turnover and the Knicks readjusted and if what
- 32:42Speaker 3: what what? What Okay, he's going to have to do
- 32:44Speaker 3: is just play them. It's going to be a full
- 32:46Speaker 3: court game for both teams. Like okay, see's force pressure
- 32:49Speaker 3: full court to make Haliburton uncomfortable, Nie Smith uncomfortable and
- 32:54Speaker 3: then vice versa, like the Pacers did to the Knicks
- 32:57Speaker 3: and made Jalen Brunson uncomfortable, is they're going to do
- 32:58Speaker 3: the same thing to shake I think the cream of
- 33:02Speaker 3: the crop. The top three of each team. Okay See
- 33:05Speaker 3: has the better three obviously, Yeah, I think Chet Holmgren's
- 33:08Speaker 3: gonna have He's gonna be the key to the whole
- 33:10Speaker 3: series because he's basically Hal Burton, Pascal Siakam and then
- 33:17Speaker 3: who's your third, Like, right, is it? Miles Turner? Is
- 33:21Speaker 3: is it? Nie Smith? Okay Se has a lockdown top
- 33:25Speaker 3: three with Shay Williams and and Chet, And I think Chet,
- 33:30Speaker 3: I think Chet's gonna have like kind of a coming
- 33:32Speaker 3: out party kind of thing where he's blocking shots. They
- 33:35Speaker 3: don't have a lot of im protection. They did some
- 33:37Speaker 3: smaller guys for the Pacers, but don't don't think the
- 33:40Speaker 3: Pacers are gonna like just back down and lose, like
- 33:44Speaker 3: get swept. That's not gonna happen. But here's the difference.
- 33:48Speaker 3: Like Okaysee's defense, I'm kind of liking to like the
- 33:50Speaker 3: two thousand Ravens or like just some of those incredible defenses,
- 33:55Speaker 3: like the two thousand and three Bucks defense, where I've
- 33:58Speaker 3: never seen a team this athletic, this big on the
- 34:01Speaker 3: wing and and have rim protection download with Hartenstein and
- 34:05Speaker 3: and home Grin like they they're they're just they perfectly
- 34:10Speaker 3: built franchise, and they have case On Wallace who comes
- 34:14Speaker 3: off the bench of fifteen minutes and hit threes and
- 34:16Speaker 3: he's built like a shitthead whatever the term is. He
- 34:20Speaker 3: is ripped. Lou Dord is ripped, and they're awesome. Defensively.
- 34:25Speaker 3: I've never seen I've not seen a team this good,
- 34:27Speaker 3: probably like the Pistons twenty fourteen. It is probably the
- 34:30Speaker 3: last great defensive team that I've seen. This is in there,
- 34:33Speaker 3: and they were nearly, not even nearly as athletic as okay, see,
- 34:36Speaker 3: so I'm honestly thinking, okay, see in five games, Okay,
- 34:41Speaker 3: the gambling numbers kind of favorable, like you said, okay,
- 34:44Speaker 3: see in six that's plus four to ten on on on,
- 34:49Speaker 3: sorry fansabi plus two twenty five okay, see in five
- 34:54Speaker 3: games if you want to get risky Pacers and seven
- 34:57Speaker 3: is like plus twenty five hundred, Like yeah, but I yeah,
- 35:00Speaker 3: I think I think overall, I think the Pats have
- 35:03Speaker 3: a good showing, but just not enough horsepower to be
- 35:07Speaker 3: okay see who again, thank god they didn't get our pick. Dude.
- 35:11Speaker 3: Could you imagine this team sweeps the Pacers when's the
- 35:14Speaker 3: title and goes, hey, we got your seventh pick of
- 35:16Speaker 3: the draft, Sixers exactly, you only have a treasure trove
- 35:20Speaker 3: of picks and caps base and like it just thank.
- 35:23Speaker 1: God, thank god. Well, look, real quick, stat on Haliburton.
- 35:27Speaker 1: Real quick, there are or over the last three seasons,
- 35:31Speaker 1: only three players who have played at least five thousand
- 35:34Speaker 1: total minutes have assisted on more than forty percent of
- 35:37Speaker 1: their team's baskets while turning it over fewer than fifteen
- 35:41Speaker 1: percent of their team's offensive possessions. You've got Yokick, Luca,
- 35:47Speaker 1: and Haliburton, who has the lowest turnover rate at eleven
- 35:51Speaker 1: point seven percent of the bunch.
- 35:53Speaker 2: Man, Okay, we're going to do this right here.
- 35:56Speaker 3: Yeah, it's Jokic.
- 35:58Speaker 1: I say it wrong all the time. I know that's
- 36:01Speaker 1: my big that's the correct you for the show. Cliche too,
- 36:06Speaker 1: for the show.
- 36:07Speaker 2: For the show.
- 36:10Speaker 3: It looks like Yokick, I agree with you, but no,
- 36:15Speaker 3: can I just remind you real quick? This came up
- 36:17Speaker 3: a whole bunch during the Eastern Conference Finals and Haliburton
- 36:19Speaker 3: was just torching the Knicks. The Kings at the time,
- 36:24Speaker 3: who had him, came to the Sixers and said, how
- 36:28Speaker 3: would you like to get Halliburton for Ben Simmons. Yeah,
- 36:32Speaker 3: it was Halliburton. It was Haliburton to other players and
- 36:37Speaker 3: two first round draft picks for Ben Simmons, Tobias Harris
- 36:40Speaker 3: and mattifstible cry and the Sixers turned that down.
- 36:44Speaker 2: Yes they did.
- 36:45Speaker 3: I'm just I just want to remind you of that.
- 36:47Speaker 3: They The man just took his team, Indiana, team that
- 36:51Speaker 3: is really really talented and not great. Yeah, dragged him
- 36:54Speaker 3: to the finals. And we could have had them.
- 36:56Speaker 1: We could have we could have, folks, I'm going to
- 36:59Speaker 1: go let us exactly. We're done, not even the last story,
- 37:03Speaker 1: forget it. Oh my gosh. Well, speaking of this final
- 37:07Speaker 1: topic that we're gonna get into before we get to
- 37:10Speaker 1: our interview and discussion about the Phillies this week, we
- 37:14Speaker 1: really wanted to dive into something that you know, every
- 37:19Speaker 1: now and again we talk about on this show, and
- 37:23Speaker 1: basically what it is is awful fan stories, and in
- 37:27Speaker 1: the Athletic this past week they specifically talked about and
- 37:31Speaker 1: I have it on the screen for our YouTube viewers,
- 37:35Speaker 1: but I'm gonna be reading this excerpt as to what
- 37:38Speaker 1: happened by an awful fan and we're gonna just talk
- 37:43Speaker 1: about this real quick and dissect it. So Houston police
- 37:47Speaker 1: this past week they identified an overseas man as the
- 37:50Speaker 1: culprit behind death threats against Astro's pitcher Lance McCullers Junior
- 37:56Speaker 1: and his family after a bad outing that he had
- 37:59Speaker 1: last month. The man told authorities that he was frustrated
- 38:02Speaker 1: and inebriated when he posted the threats on social media.
- 38:07Speaker 5: Quote.
- 38:08Speaker 1: I understand people are very passionate, and people love the
- 38:10Speaker 1: Astros and love sports, mccullors said after the game, but
- 38:14Speaker 1: threatening to find my kids and murder them is a
- 38:17Speaker 1: little bit tough to deal with. No charges have been
- 38:20Speaker 1: filed yet, so we just wanted to bring this up
- 38:24Speaker 1: here and just talk about Eric. I'm not sure if
- 38:28Speaker 1: you remember. Back in January, some piece of human garbage
- 38:33Speaker 1: Eagles fan was actually banned from the link banned from
- 38:37Speaker 1: all home games because he went on a tirade and
- 38:41Speaker 1: just said some absolutely horrific things to a Green Bay
- 38:45Speaker 1: Packers fan and a female fan in a video that
- 38:48Speaker 1: went viral. I mean, this is nothing new that happens,
- 38:51Speaker 1: but we get these pieces of human garbage that do
- 38:54Speaker 1: this stuff every now and again. It makes certain fan
- 38:57Speaker 1: bases look look terrible, especially in Philadelphia, and these are
- 39:03Speaker 1: the type of people like this guy right here, this
- 39:06Speaker 1: quote fan, he should actually be banned from going to
- 39:10Speaker 1: any games, any sporting events in the future. I don't
- 39:14Speaker 1: know how that would happen, necessarily the coordination between all
- 39:17Speaker 1: the leagues and associations, But folks like this, you shouldn't
- 39:22Speaker 1: have the opportunity in our society to enjoy a professional football, hockey, basketball, baseball,
- 39:30Speaker 1: soccer game ever.
- 39:32Speaker 2: Ever.
- 39:32Speaker 1: Again, when you do stuff like this, it really just
- 39:35Speaker 1: it's pretty incredible to me that people just can't get
- 39:39Speaker 1: it together sometimes, you know.
- 39:43Speaker 3: Let's put it lightly, and that has putting it lightly. Yes, yeah,
- 39:47Speaker 3: I mean, you know, threatening to I'm sorry for laughing
- 39:50Speaker 3: when you read mccullor's quote. I only laughed because it's
- 39:55Speaker 3: just so absurd. He's less like all bad outings, But
- 39:58Speaker 3: to threaten to kill my kid, that's going a little far. Yeah,
- 40:03Speaker 3: I'd say so, man, Yeah, yeah, this piece of ship
- 40:06Speaker 3: should never be able to go to another game ever,
- 40:09Speaker 3: shouldn't it should be allowed to watch sports? Yeah, I
- 40:12Speaker 3: know that's not possible, but that is really weird. I've
- 40:16Speaker 3: been I've been that angry that that I've been very
- 40:20Speaker 3: angry at players and some kind of performance in my day.
- 40:23Speaker 3: But I've never thought once to go to Twitter and
- 40:26Speaker 3: be like, I'm going to add this dude and tell
- 40:28Speaker 3: them I'm going to kill you, kill your kids and
- 40:32Speaker 3: your kids too so they can't become athletes and ruin
- 40:35Speaker 3: my life too. Yeah, I'm gonna take like take care
- 40:38Speaker 3: of all family business. Now. What a piece of ship.
- 40:41Speaker 3: And it's one thing, you know, you talk about the
- 40:44Speaker 3: Eagles fans that that then that particularly Eagles fan at
- 40:48Speaker 3: the Packers game, like it's one thing fan on fan behavior.
- 40:51Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 40:52Speaker 3: I mean I've been to multiple Phillies six Ers, uh uh,
- 40:58Speaker 3: all four teams Flyers, and I've seen some horrific shit
- 41:02Speaker 3: fan a fan. You know. One of my favorites sometimes
- 41:06Speaker 3: I'll call it a favorite because it just made me
- 41:08Speaker 3: giggle because it was so absurd was two thousand and
- 41:11Speaker 3: four Monday night football game Packer Vikings Eagles. I saw
- 41:16Speaker 3: a bunch of Eagles fans in circle Vikings fan and
- 41:21Speaker 3: try to light his jersey on fire. God was with
- 41:24Speaker 3: a lighter. Yeah, and I remember it's going to I
- 41:27Speaker 3: think that I think that's gone too far. I don't
- 41:31Speaker 3: like that he's here. I don't like that that fans
- 41:32Speaker 3: here and he's walking around his jersey. But you know,
- 41:34Speaker 3: lighting him on fire has probably been anyway. But to
- 41:38Speaker 3: like to to threaten like a player and his family,
- 41:42Speaker 3: I know, the term fan the fanatics, the whole thing.
- 41:45Speaker 3: But like, yeah, these people just these dudes just want
- 41:49Speaker 3: to pitch and go home. They don't give a shit
- 41:50Speaker 3: about you. I know, exactly just but this this isn't new, Like, yeah,
- 41:56Speaker 3: Monica sell is getting stabbed in like what nineteen ninety
- 41:58Speaker 3: one or something on the court, Like a dude ran
- 42:02Speaker 3: in and stabbed her in the back. That yeah, insanity.
- 42:05Speaker 3: I even I was thinking of one when I saw
- 42:08Speaker 3: the topic, and there was, uh, there was one in
- 42:10Speaker 3: two thousand and two. The first base coach, uh Tom Gamba,
- 42:16Speaker 3: I think his name was, for the Kansas City Royals.
- 42:18Speaker 3: These these two toothless meth whiskey tango losers ran onto
- 42:24Speaker 3: the court. It was the dad and the son was
- 42:26Speaker 3: seventeen ran on or ran onto the field and pummeled
- 42:29Speaker 3: him and he actually lost hearing in his one ear
- 42:32Speaker 3: and never coached again.
- 42:33Speaker 2: Oh my god, I don't know about that. I need
- 42:35Speaker 2: to I look that one up.
- 42:36Speaker 3: When you and when you see the picture of the
- 42:39Speaker 3: dude that hit him first, You're like, yeah, okay, I
- 42:45Speaker 3: see it. No shirt on, skin tight jeans, maybe some
- 42:50Speaker 3: teeth missing.
- 42:52Speaker 2: What'd you would you like a myth? Would you say the.
- 42:57Speaker 3: Uh? I just cat it came out fat.
- 43:01Speaker 2: But the meth thing was good, all right if you
- 43:04Speaker 2: see it.
- 43:05Speaker 3: Obviously he's got some weird tattoos like that. Don't look right. Yeah,
- 43:10Speaker 3: his buddy, his buddy did him, you know, go to
- 43:13Speaker 3: the parlor.
- 43:13Speaker 1: Yeah, Oh my god, I got so emotional about this.
- 43:16Speaker 1: I forgot to put the freaking banner on here. We're
- 43:19Speaker 1: done done with the segment, and I just put it
- 43:21Speaker 1: on the heck.
- 43:24Speaker 3: That that guy sucks, like you. It's this the Packers guy,
- 43:29Speaker 3: the Eagles family, the Packers, I sucks. It makes all
- 43:32Speaker 3: of us look like shit.
- 43:33Speaker 2: Should be banned.
- 43:33Speaker 1: Yeah, should be banned for life going to any any
- 43:36Speaker 1: professional sporting event ever ever again, So again, folks, Philadelphia
- 43:40Speaker 1: Sports Table at gmail dot com. That's where you can
- 43:44Speaker 1: uh uh check. That's where you can send us an
- 43:47Speaker 1: email right here, right on our screen here on YouTube.
- 43:50Speaker 1: Philadelphia Sports Table at gmail dot com. We'd love to
- 43:52Speaker 1: read your email here on the show and respond to
- 43:54Speaker 1: it if there's any stories you want us to get into.
- 43:56Speaker 1: We'd love to hear from you. So that being said, buddy,
- 44:00Speaker 1: I'm gonna let you go. We're gonna get into some
- 44:01Speaker 1: Phillies talk in just a bit here, any final words. Yeah, yeah,
- 44:07Speaker 1: So two weeks ago, when I was on the show,
- 44:10Speaker 1: I dropped the image of my dad ironing his clothes
- 44:14Speaker 1: in his white boxers. Somebody left to comment, something left
- 44:18Speaker 1: to comment on YouTube, and I was praying that someone
- 44:20Speaker 1: out there like experienced that same thing. And that got
- 44:24Speaker 1: that guy who commented definitely did because he was just like, oh, dude,
- 44:28Speaker 1: I remember that.
- 44:29Speaker 6: Yes, so d I remember just looking back like, oh duds, dad,
- 44:35Speaker 6: why do you need to do it here, your gross,
- 44:39Speaker 6: middle middle aged harry chest.
- 44:43Speaker 3: You're drinking coffee at seven at night? The iron's on. Like,
- 44:50Speaker 3: I'm glad. I'm glad someone else like felt my pain.
- 44:53Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 44:54Speaker 1: Absolutely, feel free to comment on YouTube like and subscribe
- 44:58Speaker 1: to the podcast as well.
- 45:01Speaker 2: And uh yeah, we will be back in just a
- 45:04Speaker 2: bit here again.
- 45:06Speaker 1: When we come back, we're gonna be talking about this
- 45:07Speaker 1: Philadelphia Phillies team and a bunch of storylines.
- 45:11Speaker 2: We'll be back in just a bit.
- 45:14Speaker 5: And now on the table, it's.
- 45:19Speaker 1: Great to be back and it's great to see for
- 45:21Speaker 1: the very first time here on the Philadelphia Sports Table
- 45:24Speaker 1: podcast show. To get into this Philadelphia Phillies team and
- 45:27Speaker 1: some ongoing storylines. We've got our good friend from that
- 45:30Speaker 1: Balls out of here dot com. It's contributor and writer
- 45:33Speaker 1: over at that site. You know, we love our fans
- 45:35Speaker 1: aided sites. We love that Balls out of here dot
- 45:38Speaker 1: com as well, Michael Fish or Michael Buddy.
- 45:40Speaker 7: How you doing, man, Oh, I'm great, I'm great. Thanks
- 45:44Speaker 7: for having me on.
- 45:44Speaker 1: Jeff, It's great to have you on for the first
- 45:46Speaker 1: time here at the PST podcast show. And look, I
- 45:49Speaker 1: gotta say, you know, it's been such an interesting season
- 45:52Speaker 1: for this Philadelphia Phillies team. And I think to start
- 45:56Speaker 1: us off, you know, start the discussion off right off
- 45:59Speaker 1: the bat here. I really want to get into the
- 46:01Speaker 1: fact that this is a team that went from nine
- 46:03Speaker 1: straight wins in a row to four straight losses.
- 46:07Speaker 2: In a row.
- 46:07Speaker 1: And of course, a lot of folks within Phillies Nation
- 46:09Speaker 1: are like, of course, you know, this team, I don't
- 46:11Speaker 1: have consistency, blah blah blah. You we hear all the
- 46:14Speaker 1: crap and nonsense and whatever on social media. But of course,
- 46:20Speaker 1: as we know, this team did not have Bryce Harper
- 46:22Speaker 1: basically over the past week or so. We're certainly going
- 46:26Speaker 1: to get into Bryce Harper in a little bit here,
- 46:28Speaker 1: but what did you see with this team that led
- 46:32Speaker 1: to such a one eighty with regard to their performance,
- 46:35Speaker 1: going from such positive momentum too negative momentum? What are
- 46:39Speaker 1: your thoughts here, Michael.
- 46:43Speaker 7: Just just first off, overall, I don't I don't think there's.
- 46:46Speaker 5: A lot to worry about.
- 46:49Speaker 8: Yeah, you know this is you know, this is a
- 46:51Speaker 8: good team. Yes, it is right off the bat that
- 46:54Speaker 8: such a good team exactly. You know, every team has
- 46:58Speaker 8: their ups and downs, you know. I think just the
- 47:00Speaker 8: stark contrast of nine wins and then four losses just
- 47:04Speaker 8: through everyone for a bit of a loop there, and
- 47:09Speaker 8: you know there's always the underlying the bullpen as a concern,
- 47:14Speaker 8: but you know it was it was weird because it
- 47:17Speaker 8: was really the starting pitching that that kind of stop
- 47:22Speaker 8: momentum and weird it was Zach Wheeler. It was just
- 47:25Speaker 8: the weirdest thing, right Like he I don't think he
- 47:27Speaker 8: gave up a hit for the first three innings against
- 47:29Speaker 8: the Braves there in that second game of the doubleheader,
- 47:32Speaker 8: and then like the wheels fell off and I don't know,
- 47:37Speaker 8: like I it feels like that just kind of just
- 47:42Speaker 8: stopped everything in it in the tracks. And you know,
- 47:48Speaker 8: then obviously you have Walker on talk about Walker on Friday.
- 47:53Speaker 8: You know, he's like, I'm happy for him that he's
- 47:57Speaker 8: redeemed himself this season. It's been a great story, right,
- 48:01Speaker 8: but you know he you know, the last few starts
- 48:03Speaker 8: that he's had, the pitch count has gotten up quickly,
- 48:07Speaker 8: and you know, so that that game felt like, yeah,
- 48:13Speaker 8: they were behind from the start, and I think maybe
- 48:18Speaker 8: the best spot for him is the bullpen and see
- 48:21Speaker 8: how he can do there in shorter outings.
- 48:23Speaker 5: Yeah, and then I don't know if you can talk
- 48:26Speaker 5: with Saturday at all. Oh feel free absolutely, Like that was.
- 48:31Speaker 7: Spectacular, Uh not in a good way. Obviously, we all
- 48:35Speaker 7: know what happened there.
- 48:36Speaker 8: The WIZARDO just just destroyed, just destroyed the apostle any
- 48:42Speaker 8: possible cy Young considerations.
- 48:45Speaker 5: It was one out that was something else. I could
- 48:48Speaker 5: only watch the first fournings of that game.
- 48:50Speaker 7: Yeah, and so I saw the worst of it and
- 48:53Speaker 7: that was yeah, that was that was rough and that
- 48:55Speaker 7: you know, that's one of the games where it's just
- 48:58Speaker 7: it's a write off, right, So it's not it's not like.
- 49:04Speaker 5: It was just weird because the Pits started.
- 49:06Speaker 7: Pitching has been so good all season, and then obviously
- 49:09Speaker 7: the fourth game, I think that was the one that
- 49:11Speaker 7: hurt the most with the Ranger throwing, you know, another
- 49:16Speaker 7: quality start. We'ren run six innings. That's good enough, that
- 49:19Speaker 7: should be good enough for a win. But you know,
- 49:21Speaker 7: then you get the bullpen popping up, you get the
- 49:24Speaker 7: questionable defense popping up at the worst possible time. So,
- 49:30Speaker 7: you know, I, as I said, I don't think there's
- 49:33Speaker 7: a lot to worry about. And as we saw last
- 49:35Speaker 7: night first game in Toronto, right, you know, they've they
- 49:39Speaker 7: came out, you know, they they took advantage of a
- 49:42Speaker 7: of a pitcher not adjusting and having some poor location,
- 49:46Speaker 7: and they did what the Phillies do, especially in Toronto.
- 49:51Speaker 7: Seems to like hitting in Toronto. Yeah, so you know,
- 49:54Speaker 7: I you know, I think that last night made everyone
- 49:57Speaker 7: feel a little bit better and you know there, yeah,
- 50:02Speaker 7: they can be a streaky team.
- 50:04Speaker 1: And I think at the end of the day, yeah,
- 50:05Speaker 1: at the I think at the end of the day, Michael,
- 50:07Speaker 1: I mean, this is baseball, This is baseball. These things
- 50:09Speaker 1: happen the streakiness of teams, sometimes some inconsistencies that pop
- 50:14Speaker 1: up here and there. This is the game of baseball,
- 50:18Speaker 1: and I think what's what's great is that this team
- 50:21Speaker 1: finally has Bryce Harper back into the fold after taking
- 50:25Speaker 1: that pitch to the elbow from Spencer Strider last week.
- 50:28Speaker 1: I mean, he certainly had had a really nice Tuesday night.
- 50:32Speaker 1: You mentioned the game against the Blue Jays. It was
- 50:35Speaker 1: a really nice comeback game where hit home run really
- 50:39Speaker 1: shows that he's back ready to play ball. I did
- 50:42Speaker 1: want to get your thoughts though on something and a storyline,
- 50:46Speaker 1: a mind boggling storyline. I don't even know how much
- 50:49Speaker 1: of a huge storyline it is within Phillies Nation, because
- 50:52Speaker 1: I think it's pretty ridiculous. But I have seen here
- 50:55Speaker 1: and there on the interwebs out there where people are
- 50:58Speaker 1: saying that Bryce Harper may be the downslide of his career. Here,
- 51:02Speaker 1: I mean, I don't think that's accurate at all. I
- 51:05Speaker 1: do not think that's the case. I'm wondering what are
- 51:07Speaker 1: your thoughts on that narrative. And the narrative comes from
- 51:11Speaker 1: such a slow start to the season. We do know
- 51:13Speaker 1: that he starts usually every season quote slowly I mean,
- 51:17Speaker 1: do you think these are these folks out there who
- 51:19Speaker 1: are saying this are right? Should we be concerned? Are
- 51:22Speaker 1: they incorrect? What are your thoughts on Bryce Harper, his
- 51:25Speaker 1: return and just where he's at right now?
- 51:28Speaker 7: Yeah, well you can find anything if you look hard
- 51:30Speaker 7: enough online, right, so exactly, It's not something that has
- 51:36Speaker 7: even crossed my mind.
- 51:39Speaker 5: He's only thirty two years old.
- 51:40Speaker 2: Yep.
- 51:42Speaker 7: Sometimes, you know, we forget that because it feels like
- 51:44Speaker 7: he should be older because he's been around for so long. Yeah,
- 51:49Speaker 7: you know, and players, players of his caliber, don't just
- 51:52Speaker 7: fall off a cliff at thirty two, you know, for
- 51:56Speaker 7: the most part, Like he's he's.
- 51:57Speaker 5: Going to be playing for a long time. You know,
- 52:00Speaker 5: he's not.
- 52:01Speaker 7: He's not the twenty twenty one Bryce Harper likely never
- 52:06Speaker 7: will be that player again. But you know he's doing
- 52:12Speaker 7: he's doing everything right. Yes, he's you know, like his
- 52:18Speaker 7: you go to a stat cast page, you know, everything's
- 52:21Speaker 7: everything's red.
- 52:25Speaker 5: You know, It's just.
- 52:27Speaker 7: It feels like he's not just not getting as lucky
- 52:31Speaker 7: so far when he is making that contact, like his
- 52:33Speaker 7: expected stats, he's just not getting there and you can
- 52:38Speaker 7: see it, like you can see when he hits a ball, well,
- 52:41Speaker 7: it looks like it should be a home run and
- 52:43Speaker 7: it just doesn't quite make it.
- 52:45Speaker 5: And that's whether that's.
- 52:46Speaker 7: A a CVP factor. I actually saw a report that
- 52:52Speaker 7: there's more drag on the.
- 52:53Speaker 5: Ball this year.
- 52:54Speaker 7: I think Ino Serus the Athletic actually that came across
- 52:57Speaker 7: my feed the day that there's a bit more drag
- 52:59Speaker 7: on the ball all this year. That's obviously not just
- 53:03Speaker 7: a Harper problem, but something yeah, yeah, for sure. And
- 53:08Speaker 7: then there was the also the report over the off
- 53:10Speaker 7: season about how the wind at the Bank has taken
- 53:14Speaker 7: away a lot of a lot of home runs. So,
- 53:17Speaker 7: you know, not making excuses because he'll be fine. His
- 53:22Speaker 7: bat speed isn't slowed down at all, so I think
- 53:24Speaker 7: it's like a half a click faster than last year.
- 53:30Speaker 7: So you know, I don't think there's anything to it.
- 53:32Speaker 7: You know, it feels like empty empty panic.
- 53:36Speaker 2: Absolutely, Bryce Harper.
- 53:40Speaker 5: Yeah, he'll, he'll, he'll be okay. I think he knows
- 53:41Speaker 5: what he's doing.
- 53:44Speaker 7: I'm not going to be the one to criticize Bryce Harper.
- 53:46Speaker 4: Absolutely, absolutely, he he does have a bit more swing
- 53:50Speaker 4: and miss this year so far, but like he's being
- 53:52Speaker 4: pitched so tough, like teams are just not giving him
- 53:56Speaker 4: pitches to hit.
- 53:57Speaker 7: He's he's seeing way if you were fastballs, way more
- 54:01Speaker 7: breaking balls, like he's it's not it's not like shooting
- 54:06Speaker 7: fish in a barrel? Is it like it has been
- 54:08Speaker 7: for the last few years? Right?
- 54:09Speaker 5: Finally stopped? Yep?
- 54:11Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, so absolutely.
- 54:13Speaker 5: I don't think it's concerned.
- 54:14Speaker 1: No, I don't think. I don't think we should be concerned, folks.
- 54:17Speaker 1: I want to put that storyline to rest. But I
- 54:19Speaker 1: also wanted to talk about another gentleman on this team
- 54:21Speaker 1: with you, Michael Who I mean, I've I've just enjoyed
- 54:24Speaker 1: watching him for the most part this season, and that's
- 54:27Speaker 1: Nick Castianos. I mean, he's playing some very good baseball
- 54:30Speaker 1: this year. He's got a two to eighty one batting
- 54:32Speaker 1: average at this point, he's driven in thirty RBIs what
- 54:36Speaker 1: have you been seeing from Castianos this season that's really
- 54:40Speaker 1: helping him to propel this Phillies team in certain game
- 54:44Speaker 1: situations that we have seen him come up big here
- 54:47Speaker 1: and there, Like, what are your thoughts with Castianos and
- 54:50Speaker 1: really kind of how he's been how he's been tailoring
- 54:53Speaker 1: his offensive game here?
- 54:55Speaker 7: Uh?
- 54:56Speaker 5: Yeah, it's I what you mean?
- 55:00Speaker 7: He he seems he seemed we know what Nick Castianos is, like,
- 55:05Speaker 7: he's at this point in his career, right, And obviously
- 55:10Speaker 7: the big big storyline over the offseason and coming in
- 55:13Speaker 7: not just for him but for the whole lineup was
- 55:17Speaker 7: cutting down on the chasing, you know, not not just oiding,
- 55:21Speaker 7: you're gonna swing before the pitch has even left the
- 55:23Speaker 7: hand the pitcher's hands. So I don't think he's chasing
- 55:28Speaker 7: any less this year, but he's definitely striking out less.
- 55:32Speaker 7: He's he's swinging. He's got lower whiff rate, he's got
- 55:37Speaker 7: a lower strikeout rate, so you know he's he's going
- 55:41Speaker 7: to be, you know, putting more balls in play. It's
- 55:45Speaker 7: weird his is his numbers with runners in scoring position
- 55:50Speaker 7: aren't as good as they have been the last couple
- 55:53Speaker 7: of years. It feels like maybe he's had more timely hits.
- 55:59Speaker 2: Ye right, I think that's where like yeah.
- 56:02Speaker 7: Yeah, like the eye test is like, oh man, like
- 56:04Speaker 7: he just seems to, you know, have those clutch hits,
- 56:06Speaker 7: but you know there he's actually I think his runners
- 56:10Speaker 7: in scoring position average is like two thirty maybe okay,
- 56:13Speaker 7: And I think it was you know, to sixty last
- 56:15Speaker 7: year to eighty or ninety year sport's kind of dropped
- 56:19Speaker 7: every year a little bit while he's being with the Phillies.
- 56:22Speaker 7: But I was looking up his late inning numbers, like
- 56:25Speaker 7: from the seventh inning on, even the sixth inning inning on.
- 56:29Speaker 7: Over the last month, just his hitting over three hundred.
- 56:33Speaker 7: He's got a eight eighty something ops and you know
- 56:37Speaker 7: once once they get to the bullpens so late in games,
- 56:41Speaker 7: he's coming through with hits. But I think, yeah, I
- 56:45Speaker 7: think the only thing for him is just getting more
- 56:48Speaker 7: more of those hits when there are the runners on
- 56:52Speaker 7: in scoring position.
- 56:54Speaker 2: Yep.
- 56:54Speaker 1: Absolutely, Well, It's it's nice to see, uh, just certain
- 56:59Speaker 1: guys on this team. You want them to step up
- 57:01Speaker 1: in certain positions, as certain situations and when the team
- 57:04Speaker 1: is in certain positions, and I think we are seeing
- 57:07Speaker 1: that every now and again here with Nick Castianos.
- 57:09Speaker 2: And again, like you.
- 57:10Speaker 1: Said, like he is what he is, We know what
- 57:12Speaker 1: type of player he is, but there have been some
- 57:15Speaker 1: in game situations where he's he's come up big for
- 57:18Speaker 1: this team. And there's also another gentleman as we're moving
- 57:20Speaker 1: along here that has come up big for this team
- 57:23Speaker 1: as of late, and we need to talk about Alec
- 57:27Speaker 1: Bohm and his incredible researchence, Oh my gosh, Michael, since
- 57:32Speaker 1: the beginning of May, I mean since May first, he's
- 57:35Speaker 1: batting three thirty three. At this point, he's batting two
- 57:39Speaker 1: seventy seven on the year. Back May first, of like
- 57:43Speaker 1: I just mentioned, he was hitting two twenty. So, what
- 57:46Speaker 1: are your thoughts on Alec Boum's season and if he's
- 57:49Speaker 1: able to kind of ride this type of success long
- 57:52Speaker 1: term here maybe for the rest of the season. Again,
- 57:55Speaker 1: we know another streaky player, we know Alec Bohm who
- 57:58Speaker 1: he has been over these years. What are your thoughts
- 58:02Speaker 1: on him again? Can he ride this success out like
- 58:05Speaker 1: long term here?
- 58:08Speaker 5: Yeah? I don't.
- 58:09Speaker 7: I don't see why he wouldn't. I totally, I am.
- 58:13Speaker 7: I believe in Boom. You know, he he did it
- 58:17Speaker 7: most of last year. He was their best hitter most
- 58:20Speaker 7: of the last season until that that hand injury derailed it
- 58:23Speaker 7: at the end, and he just was like he came
- 58:26Speaker 7: back from that and he was just he was not
- 58:29Speaker 7: I don't think he should have even been playing.
- 58:31Speaker 5: He was so bad.
- 58:31Speaker 7: Yeah, Like there's something wrong, right, So I don't know,
- 58:34Speaker 7: Like and then the we're as fans were so fickle right,
- 58:39Speaker 7: like you see it all the time. You know, the
- 58:42Speaker 7: first impression can set the whole, our whole perception for
- 58:46Speaker 7: a player's season. It's a six month season. A lot
- 58:49Speaker 7: of players have a bad, slow first month. You know,
- 58:52Speaker 7: if he if he had that month in June, you know,
- 58:56Speaker 7: if he was hot for two months like last year,
- 58:58Speaker 7: and then he has a bad you know, has that
- 59:00Speaker 7: month in June. Yeah, it's a talking point, and you
- 59:02Speaker 7: know it's like, oh, what's wrong with Alec Boom now?
- 59:04Speaker 7: But he comes out of it and has a good
- 59:06Speaker 7: second half. You don't even you.
- 59:08Speaker 5: Forget that he had a bad month. By the end
- 59:10Speaker 5: of the.
- 59:10Speaker 7: Numbers at the end of the season are are good.
- 59:13Speaker 7: You know, he's I think he'll end up being a
- 59:16Speaker 7: two eighty hitter again. He's almost back there already with
- 59:20Speaker 7: his hot his hot month. And I don't think it's
- 59:22Speaker 7: just you know, I don't think it's just a streak.
- 59:25Speaker 7: I think this is this is Boom. He's never going
- 59:28Speaker 7: to be a thirty home run guy. It's just not
- 59:30Speaker 7: what his swing's cut out for. Yeah, but you know,
- 59:32Speaker 7: but fifteen home runs, lots of doubles, like we saw
- 59:35Speaker 7: last year, he can he can be a he can
- 59:38Speaker 7: be a run producer, and.
- 59:41Speaker 1: That's what I like, to be honest with you, Michael Like,
- 59:43Speaker 1: I like that aspect of his game for this team.
- 59:47Speaker 1: So a theme I've talked about a number of times
- 59:49Speaker 1: here at the PSD podcast show is that not every
- 59:52Speaker 1: single player on this Phillies team needs to have that
- 59:55Speaker 1: launch angle, needs to be hitting home runs constantly all
- 59:58Speaker 1: the time. That you know, when you get at singles
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: and you get doubles, you know, it's part of the
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: game of baseball. It's a good thing to see.
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: Every now and again.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: And when you have talent on this team that's able
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: to do it on a consistent basis, it makes for
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: fun baseball to watch.
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: And I'm glad Alec Bama is here because of that.
- 1:00:15Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:00:15Speaker 7: Yeah, And and uh, you know for a guy that was,
- 1:00:19Speaker 7: you know, hitting at the top of the order for
- 1:00:22Speaker 7: you know, hitting in the cleanup spot most of the
- 1:00:24Speaker 7: last year. Yeah, you know, there's there's plenty of RB
- 1:00:28Speaker 7: opportunities when you're hitting up there.
- 1:00:30Speaker 5: I think I don't think.
- 1:00:31Speaker 7: His his RBIs have caught up to how he's hitting
- 1:00:35Speaker 7: because he was hitting so far down in the order. Yeah,
- 1:00:39Speaker 7: so that you know, I don't know if his RBI
- 1:00:41Speaker 7: numbers will will be where they could be at the
- 1:00:43Speaker 7: end of the year. But you know, even when he
- 1:00:46Speaker 7: was slumping, he was doing everything right. He was hitting
- 1:00:48Speaker 7: the ball hard. He's he's only straight. He has sixteen
- 1:00:51Speaker 7: percent this year, like he's it was gonna it was
- 1:00:54Speaker 7: gonna turn for him, right.
- 1:00:55Speaker 5: He was just getting super unlucky.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: Right, absolutely, And we know that this game there's some
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: there's some luck in it for sure. Again, folks, we're
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: talking to Michael Fisher from that balls out of here
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: dot com. Here's on the Twitter slash x at by
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: Michael Fisher a great great follow and again that Ball's
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: out of here dot com. And if you are interested
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: in get in touch with us here at the Philadelphia
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: Sports Table PODCAS show, shoot us off an email. We'd
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: love to hear from you, Philadelphia Sports Table at gmail
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: dot com. We'd love to read your email here on
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: the show and respond to it. That being said, I
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: want to dive into the starting pitching next with you, Michael,
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: because you know you mentioned right at the top. You know,
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: sometimes we get a little nervous with the starting pitching,
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: especially when we saw those four losses in a row recently,
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: because It's one of the strongest aspects of this team
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: and one of the reasons why this team has been
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: so successful this season. But I do want to ask you,
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: you know, from a starting pitching standpoint, with this Phillies
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: team and within this rotation here, what is your biggest
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: concern here as a you know, we're just starting the
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: month of June.
- 1:02:02Speaker 7: Honestly, just health, health, right, Like I feel like they've
- 1:02:08Speaker 7: been fairly lucky h last season. You know, just some minor,
- 1:02:13Speaker 7: minor stuff with with Wheeler. You know, he's obviously the
- 1:02:17Speaker 7: most important guy out there. You know, I think Nola's
- 1:02:22Speaker 7: Nola's ankle injury maybe you know, it was a blessing
- 1:02:26Speaker 7: in disguise, Uh, get him, get him away and get
- 1:02:29Speaker 7: him some time off and hopefully he comes back.
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: Right to see the gable right and that first performance
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: from him, which was fantastic.
- 1:02:37Speaker 7: Yeah, So I think it's just if they can stay healthy.
- 1:02:41Speaker 7: That's that's what I'm That's that's the only concern. And
- 1:02:45Speaker 7: like they have, they have the horses, they they have
- 1:02:51Speaker 7: some intriguing depth, like you mentioned Mike Abele there. We'll
- 1:02:56Speaker 7: see how he does against the Jas tonight. And you know,
- 1:03:02Speaker 7: I don't I don't know if it'll be as good
- 1:03:04Speaker 7: as his debut, because that.
- 1:03:05Speaker 5: Was that was was impressive, that was special.
- 1:03:08Speaker 7: Yeah, but they you know, if he if he can
- 1:03:12Speaker 7: be a good fifth starter level, then you know, you
- 1:03:17Speaker 7: know the rest of the guys can carry the rotation.
- 1:03:20Speaker 5: Yeah, and let's not forget it.
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: I'm sorry, go ahead, go ahead, now.
- 1:03:24Speaker 7: I was just to say, it's just the rotation isn't
- 1:03:25Speaker 7: something that I worry about. There's a lot more a
- 1:03:28Speaker 7: lot of the things that you know, as a Phillies fan,
- 1:03:31Speaker 7: we worry about, And yeah, I don't think the rotation
- 1:03:33Speaker 7: should be should be it.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: I was also going to say, let's not forget that
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: Andrew Paynter is in the pipeline here as well. You know,
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: we cannot forget about that.
- 1:03:41Speaker 5: It's easy to forget sometimes. Yeah.
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: Yeah, And all of us were saying prior to the
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: season starting, even back in March April, saying, well, Andrew Paynter,
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: you know, he may be coming up in June or so,
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: I mean, we are here in June. Who knows what
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: will happen with it? But you know, I do have
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: to ask you though, too. We love talking about under
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: the radar story lies here at the PST podcast show
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: with all of our Philly sports teams that we talk
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: about on a weekly basis. So to close us out here, Michael,
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: I personally think there are some under the radar storylines
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: with this Phillies team, both from a positive and negative
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: perspective at this current moment. Like, for instance, I personally
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: think that Trey Turner, an interesting aspect of his game
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: is that he's twelve out of twenty six qualified shortstops
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: in field runs above average at this point, He's at
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: two point six here at the moment, I think that's
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: a pretty under the radar type of storyline here as
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: it pertains to Trey Turner. What's the biggest under the
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: radar storyline for you, whether it's positive or negative with
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: this Phillies team as we're here in the start of June,
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: what are your thoughts?
- 1:04:48Speaker 7: Like, I thought of a couple a positive positive guys,
- 1:04:52Speaker 7: So I'll start there.
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: There you go.
- 1:04:56Speaker 5: Brandon Marsh, Yes.
- 1:05:00Speaker 7: Was nothing specific you know about what he's doing except
- 1:05:05Speaker 7: for since he's come back from the injury, he's hitting
- 1:05:08Speaker 7: two ninety. You know, he plays solid center field defense
- 1:05:14Speaker 7: and it seems like, you know, obviously the first couple
- 1:05:17Speaker 7: weeks of the season, it was the biggest problem that
- 1:05:21Speaker 7: that we had was Brandon.
- 1:05:22Speaker 5: Marsh Right and how bad he was.
- 1:05:24Speaker 7: And then it seems it feels just like after his
- 1:05:27Speaker 7: initial you know, everyone's excited to have him back, and
- 1:05:29Speaker 7: it's just he's kind of just flying under the radar.
- 1:05:31Speaker 5: It feels like now like how good he has been?
- 1:05:34Speaker 7: Actually, yes, so you know I got to give him
- 1:05:37Speaker 7: his props for sure, And it was just the negative.
- 1:05:42Speaker 7: Is the leadoff spot Bryson Stott May was horrible for him?
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: Yes, it was for him.
- 1:05:52Speaker 7: And so that's just kind of what I'm watching, is
- 1:05:56Speaker 7: how and he came out last night first inning walk,
- 1:06:00Speaker 7: then first inning two run single, Like it's that's what
- 1:06:04Speaker 7: he's got to do. He doesn't have to hit home runs.
- 1:06:07Speaker 7: He's got to get on base, he's got to get
- 1:06:09Speaker 7: hits when he needs to get hits. And then uh,
- 1:06:13Speaker 7: just one more quick one off the field, off the field.
- 1:06:18Speaker 7: This this isn't Uh. This will get bigger as we
- 1:06:21Speaker 7: closer with the trade deadline. But which version of Dave
- 1:06:26Speaker 7: don Broski will we see? Will he pull a trigger
- 1:06:29Speaker 7: on a on a big, big trade, like actually move
- 1:06:32Speaker 7: some big prospects yeah, because I know they've talked about
- 1:06:36Speaker 7: building a dynasty and thinking long term with their top guys,
- 1:06:39Speaker 7: and you know there's guys that are n't touchable. But
- 1:06:42Speaker 7: with the state of the bullpen like, it feels like
- 1:06:44Speaker 7: he's gonna have to make a big swing.
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: Yeah, and so but how big will that swing? How big?
- 1:06:51Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 1:06:52Speaker 7: That's those are the from the on the field. It's
- 1:06:55Speaker 7: it's marsh and stought that I've been really keeping an
- 1:06:58Speaker 7: eye on, and then off the field is just waiting
- 1:07:03Speaker 7: for him to do something and.
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: We're going to see it sooner other than later for sure, right, folks, Again,
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: he is from that Balls out of here dot com.
