- 0:54Speaker 1: for one last deep dive into the Bengals twenty twenty
- 0:57Speaker 1: six draft class with Assistant GM Steve Ridissivik. Steve, did
- 1:03Speaker 1: your view of this year's draft have any impact on
- 1:06Speaker 1: the decision to trade for Dexter Lawrence?
- 1:10Speaker 2: Yeah, we felt like, obviously Detackle was going to be
- 1:12Speaker 2: thin going into the draft, and when Dexter was available
- 1:17Speaker 2: for trade, we felt like that was the right move
- 1:19Speaker 2: and that was the move that was going to make
- 1:21Speaker 2: our team better immediately, not only this year, but for
- 1:25Speaker 2: future years. So we felt like as a group, that
- 1:30Speaker 2: was the smartest decision to make.
- 1:32Speaker 1: So a lot of us did the Okay, who would
- 1:35Speaker 1: have still been there at number ten game? After the
- 1:38Speaker 1: first round of the draft it turned out that Caleb
- 1:40Speaker 1: Downs and Reuben Bain were both available.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Did you think they would be?
- 1:45Speaker 4: You never know.
- 1:45Speaker 2: It's always a crapshoot really going into it.
- 1:50Speaker 4: You know, we stacked.
- 1:51Speaker 2: We stacked the players one through ten. We knew there
- 1:54Speaker 2: was going to be a good player available there at ten. Again,
- 1:57Speaker 2: we felt like Dexter Lawrence was the best fit for
- 2:01Speaker 2: our team and what we needed to do on that
- 2:04Speaker 2: side of the ball at with the tenth pick. So
- 2:08Speaker 2: that's why we felt comfortable enough doing the trade with
- 2:10Speaker 2: the Giants.
- 2:12Speaker 1: I know you're not going to tell me who you
- 2:13Speaker 1: would have taken if you were still at number ten,
- 2:16Speaker 1: But would it have been one of those two guys?
- 2:19Speaker 2: They definitely would have been in the in the conversation,
- 2:21Speaker 2: and I don't want to say which one we had
- 2:25Speaker 2: stacked over the other, but they definitely would have been
- 2:27Speaker 2: in our mix of mix of ten guys that we
- 2:29Speaker 2: were talking about.
- 2:30Speaker 1: There, you wound up making seven picks, were most of
- 2:33Speaker 1: them roughly where you had them graded.
- 2:36Speaker 2: I would say for where we took the players in
- 2:40Speaker 2: this year's draft, we felt like we got great value
- 2:44Speaker 2: to where we had them graded. I did not feel
- 2:48Speaker 2: like there were players that we had to reach on.
- 2:51Speaker 2: I feel like we got players that we had either
- 2:54Speaker 2: around or too higher and than where we took them
- 2:57Speaker 2: in this year's draft. And it doesn't always fall that way.
- 3:01Speaker 2: There are years where, again, let's just say we're talking
- 3:04Speaker 2: d tackles and you're looking at this year's dtackle group
- 3:08Speaker 2: and you're sitting there in the second round and you're
- 3:10Speaker 2: looking at a group of players that we had third
- 3:13Speaker 2: round grades on, but that's a significant need for your team.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Then you end up reaching for players like that. This year,
- 3:19Speaker 2: I feel like the draft kind of hit us in
- 3:21Speaker 2: a bunch of sweet spots to where there were players
- 3:23Speaker 2: there available that we had a round or in that round,
- 3:28Speaker 2: and that's where we selected them.
- 3:30Speaker 1: So at the end of the first round, typically you'll
- 3:32Speaker 1: kind of reorganize the board going into Day two based
- 3:36Speaker 1: on who has taken in the first round. When you
- 3:38Speaker 1: did that this year, how close was Casius Howell to
- 3:41Speaker 1: the top of your day two board.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Cash just was at the top of our Day two board,
- 3:47Speaker 2: And you know, there was talks of when you have
- 3:51Speaker 2: when you have a player that's stacked that high, do
- 3:53Speaker 2: we try to go up and get them. We kind
- 3:56Speaker 2: of highlighted the teams that were in that mix.
- 3:59Speaker 4: Look for defensive ends.
- 4:01Speaker 2: And you know, when you're looking to try to trade up,
- 4:05Speaker 2: there's teams that may ask for too much, or you know,
- 4:09Speaker 2: the draft comp isn't enough for you to want to
- 4:13Speaker 2: to take a swing at it, or things just don't
- 4:15Speaker 2: end up working out.
- 4:15Speaker 4: Our teams just want to stay on the clock.
- 4:18Speaker 2: But yeah, Cashius was definitely at the top of our
- 4:20Speaker 2: board going into Day two, and he was a player
- 4:22Speaker 2: that we were extremely happy to get there.
- 4:24Speaker 1: So you added him to the defensive line after trading
- 4:27Speaker 1: for Dexter Lawrence, signing boy A Mafe, and signing Jonathan Allen.
- 4:31Speaker 1: In last year's Super Bowl, Seattle's defensive line tied the
- 4:35Speaker 1: Super Bowl record with seven sacks. The year before, the
- 4:37Speaker 1: Eagle sack Patrick Mahomes six times, hit him eleven times,
- 4:41Speaker 1: didn't blitz at all in that Super Bowl. Did you
- 4:44Speaker 1: go into this offseason saying we must build a deep
- 4:49Speaker 1: and dominant defensive line.
- 4:51Speaker 2: That was definitely the plan going into free agency. We
- 4:54Speaker 2: knew we needed to get better on the D line.
- 4:56Speaker 2: We knew we needed to get.
- 4:57Speaker 4: A more pass rush.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Obviously started with with Boyer in free agency and just
- 5:03Speaker 2: as what he was able to accomplish with his time
- 5:06Speaker 2: in Seattle. He's obviously a very active pass rusher and
- 5:11Speaker 2: has the ability to move the quarterback off the spot,
- 5:14Speaker 2: and not only that, we think he's a really good
- 5:17Speaker 2: run player.
- 5:18Speaker 4: And then next with Jonathan Allen.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Obviously we feel like he can still win at a
- 5:23Speaker 2: high level when he's matched up one on one on guards.
- 5:26Speaker 2: He's a difficult player to stop as a pass rusher,
- 5:29Speaker 2: and we had it. We felt like he was going
- 5:31Speaker 2: to add great value there for us as in the
- 5:33Speaker 2: pass rush. And then they trade with for Dexter. Obviously
- 5:38Speaker 2: we know what he is as a player in terms
- 5:39Speaker 2: of what he's able to do creating, creating pressure and
- 5:43Speaker 2: taking on double teams. So yeah, again we knew, we know,
- 5:48Speaker 2: we knew we need to get better there. And we
- 5:50Speaker 2: feel like we attacked it as much as we could
- 5:53Speaker 2: this offseason.
- 5:54Speaker 3: His cash is different from the other guys you have.
- 5:57Speaker 4: He's a different style of player. I would say he's
- 6:00Speaker 4: more similar.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean he's the One thing about Cashius is
- 6:06Speaker 2: his ability to get off the ball, win in one
- 6:10Speaker 2: on one situations, and we do think he has versatility.
- 6:13Speaker 2: He's a guy that you can drop back and coverage.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Maybe not someone you want to, obviously with his skill set,
- 6:18Speaker 2: do that on a consistent basis, but he does bring
- 6:20Speaker 2: a lot of versatility to his game.
- 6:23Speaker 1: In the third round, he selected cornerback Takario Bobo Davis,
- 6:26Speaker 1: who's got crazy measurables. He's nearly six', four incredible. REACH
- 6:32Speaker 1: i was stunned WHEN i met him face to face
- 6:35Speaker 1: after you guys flow him into, town just how big he.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Is he was the eighth corner selected in this year's.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Draft were you reaching the point or getting close to
- 6:44Speaker 1: that point where there was kind of a drop off
- 6:46Speaker 1: For day two.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Corners, YEAH i mean we knew what he was or
- 6:52Speaker 2: what he is as a. Player we felt like he
- 6:54Speaker 2: Would he has starter upside in him and obviously the
- 6:57Speaker 2: traits that he, has the, height, weight the speed the,
- 6:59Speaker 2: land his availability to play press, man and the stickiness
- 7:05Speaker 2: that he has at the top of. Routes his ball
- 7:06Speaker 2: disruptions his ability to play in zone, coverage and just
- 7:10Speaker 2: again like you hit, on like the size of, length
- 7:12Speaker 2: his ability to just take up space in zone coverage
- 7:16Speaker 2: makes it very difficult for. Quarterbacks so, yeah you, know
- 7:20Speaker 2: we felt like in the third, round you get a
- 7:23Speaker 2: guy like that who you feel like is going to
- 7:25Speaker 2: be a starter for you and develop into. That you
- 7:28Speaker 2: take the swing and you take. Them but, yeah we
- 7:30Speaker 2: felt like there was a dip after the group of
- 7:34Speaker 2: third round corners that we kind of had evaluated in that,
- 7:37Speaker 2: pocket And tacario was up there for.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Us at the start of day. Three you traded, down
- 7:42Speaker 1: moving back eighteen spots in the fourth round in order
- 7:45Speaker 1: to move up fifty nine spots later from the sixth
- 7:48Speaker 1: to the end of the FOURTH i looked at a
- 7:50Speaker 1: lot of those trade value charts to see how that,
- 7:52Speaker 1: looked and.
- 7:53Speaker 3: It was pretty.
- 7:53Speaker 1: Even most of them favored The bengals by a little.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Bit why did you make that?
- 7:58Speaker 2: Deal when we went into it in the fourth, round
- 8:02Speaker 2: there were you, KNOW i hit kind of hit on it,
- 8:05Speaker 2: earlier like there was thirty something players that we felt
- 8:08Speaker 2: comfortable with in the fourth round that we felt, like
- 8:10Speaker 2: we're players that are going to come in and be
- 8:12Speaker 2: able to make an impact their rookie. Season so when
- 8:16Speaker 2: you have, that obviously like, that you can wait and
- 8:20Speaker 2: kind of you can stay with it the fourth round,
- 8:22Speaker 2: pick take a, player and then we were going to
- 8:24Speaker 2: have to sit around and wait wait a while for
- 8:26Speaker 2: our sixth round, pick so you just never know are
- 8:28Speaker 2: those players going to get picked. Over so we had
- 8:29Speaker 2: the opportunity to swap our fourth our sixth round pick
- 8:34Speaker 2: and move it up into the fourth round and get
- 8:37Speaker 2: those two players that we felt very comfortable coming in
- 8:40Speaker 2: and being able to make an impact as a.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Rookie the first of those guys Was auburn Center connor
- 8:45Speaker 1: Lou he was the one hundred and twenty eighth. Pick
- 8:49Speaker 1: would he have been your guy at one ten if
- 8:51Speaker 1: he kept that?
- 8:51Speaker 2: Pick he definitely was in the mix of guys that
- 8:55Speaker 2: was in The they were in the conversation when you
- 8:58Speaker 2: when you get to, that when you actually get on you,
- 9:02Speaker 2: know two or three picks before then you start talking
- 9:05Speaker 2: through the different players through what they bring to the,
- 9:07Speaker 2: club and he was definitely in that conversation the guys
- 9:11Speaker 2: that we were talking, About so we felt comfortable where,
- 9:15Speaker 2: again you have a handful of players that you're talking
- 9:17Speaker 2: about when you're on the, clock can you slide back
- 9:20Speaker 2: and take take a player there that you feel comfortable.
- 9:24Speaker 4: Being able to come in and contribute as a. Rookie
- 9:26Speaker 4: and we.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Did we, did and we ended up getting two of
- 9:30Speaker 2: those players that we were talking about with.
- 9:32Speaker 1: That connor TOWARDS acl In october of last. Year if
- 9:36Speaker 1: that didn't, happen how high do you think he would have?
- 9:39Speaker 3: Gone you never.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Know, obviously teams evaluate players, differently but we felt confident
- 9:46Speaker 2: with his ability before the, injury and we feel confident
- 9:51Speaker 2: to where he's going to be when he returns from
- 9:52Speaker 2: the injury that we feel like he has ability to
- 9:55Speaker 2: ascend on our. Club and you, KNOW i kind of
- 9:59Speaker 2: hit on this earlier with, you but just what he
- 10:03Speaker 2: brings to the locker room in terms of the, personality the,
- 10:06Speaker 2: leadership his football, iq the juice that he's going.
- 10:09Speaker 4: To bring to the locker.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Room, obviously all those traits are very important for the center,
- 10:14Speaker 2: position and you, know we're we feel fortunate that we
- 10:17Speaker 2: were able to get him there in the fourth.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Round with the extra fourth round pick you got from The,
- 10:21Speaker 1: jets you Took georgia wide Receiver Colby. Young does he
- 10:25Speaker 1: add something that you don't have in the wide receiver?
- 10:27Speaker 2: Room they're all different style of, guys you. KNOW i
- 10:32Speaker 2: would say he is probably more similar to t just
- 10:36Speaker 2: in terms of physical.
- 10:38Speaker 4: Traits different style.
- 10:41Speaker 2: THOUGH I, mean the one thing with him like that
- 10:44Speaker 2: sticks out is WHEN i watch his tape is the
- 10:47Speaker 2: toughness that he brings in his run after, catch his
- 10:52Speaker 2: ability to, bounce bounce through, tackles, bounce you, know bounce
- 10:56Speaker 2: off of, tackles keep the keep the play. Going and
- 11:00Speaker 2: then his ability to block in the run. GAME i
- 11:02Speaker 2: think we're things that's that stood out to me the.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Most on top of his you, know the, height, weight his,
- 11:08Speaker 2: speed his ability to win and contested. Situations but, YEAH
- 11:11Speaker 2: i think that room is a good mix of different
- 11:15Speaker 2: traits that they all bring to our.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Club when we look at wide receivers going into the,
- 11:20Speaker 1: DRAFT i think fans and media to a lesser extent
- 11:23Speaker 1: never even consider their blocking.
- 11:25Speaker 3: Ability how big of a deal is.
- 11:27Speaker 4: THAT i think it's.
- 11:28Speaker 2: HUGE I, mean you have to have guys on the
- 11:30Speaker 2: outside that are going to block corners give them given
- 11:34Speaker 2: enough time for running backs to break through. It you,
- 11:38Speaker 2: KNOW i think it's, huge especially you know what we you,
- 11:41Speaker 2: KNOW i think we're big, on you, know trying to
- 11:43Speaker 2: be a physical, team and you have to have receivers
- 11:46Speaker 2: that are able to.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Block in the sixth, round you took a local, kid
- 11:49Speaker 1: a versatile offensive, Lineman Brian parker out Of duke he
- 11:52Speaker 1: played At Saint Xavier High school here In. Cincinnati Between
- 11:56Speaker 1: Connor loo in the fourth round And Brian parker in the,
- 11:59Speaker 1: sixth do you think you Found Ted karras's successor at
- 12:02Speaker 1: center Whenever ted's career is.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Done, oh it's, hard hard to, say and it's you Know, Ted,
- 12:08Speaker 2: TED i think the world of and he's an unbelievable
- 12:11Speaker 2: player and an unbelievable. Person so, yeah you just those
- 12:17Speaker 2: guys are going to have to. DEVELOP i think they
- 12:19Speaker 2: are coming into a great room with great veterans that
- 12:22Speaker 2: will show them the. Way but they are going to
- 12:26Speaker 2: have to, develop and there's gonna be a good competition
- 12:29Speaker 2: in the.
- 12:29Speaker 4: Room we need a depth in.
- 12:31Speaker 2: There but, YEAH i Mean Ted TED i think can
- 12:34Speaker 2: play as long as he wants to. PLAY i thought
- 12:36Speaker 2: he had one of his best seasons last, year so
- 12:39Speaker 2: so you never. KNOW i mean, again these, guys these
- 12:42Speaker 2: guys are just going to have to come in, work,
- 12:43Speaker 2: compete and learn from some of the greats in that.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Room brian has been compared to my broadcast Partner Dave
- 12:50Speaker 1: lapham in the sense that you talk about him as
- 12:52Speaker 1: a guy who theoretically could play every. Spot lapp did
- 12:55Speaker 1: that twice in a single game in His bengals. Career
- 12:59Speaker 1: Ken Bryant park could truly do.
- 13:00Speaker 4: That he can.
- 13:01Speaker 2: PLAY i, mean he's he's played at a high level at,
- 13:05Speaker 2: duke at. TACKLE i thought he showed very well at
- 13:09Speaker 2: The East west game at center for having not you,
- 13:13Speaker 2: know having he really hadn't done. IT i think he
- 13:15Speaker 2: played something college or in high. School BUT i thought
- 13:18Speaker 2: he played well at The East west. Game and he
- 13:20Speaker 2: definitely has the athleticism and the skill set to play
- 13:25Speaker 2: the guard. Position so he and the football cues, there
- 13:27Speaker 2: he's you, know that part's not going to be an
- 13:29Speaker 2: issue for. Him so he definitely has the physical ability
- 13:33Speaker 2: and the mental ability to play all five. Spots and,
- 13:37Speaker 2: YEAH i don't think he's a wash at ANY i
- 13:38Speaker 2: think he could do any position and play it at
- 13:41Speaker 2: a high.
- 13:41Speaker 3: Level you had two seventh round.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Picks the first was tight End Jack, andres who finished
- 13:46Speaker 1: his college career At. Texas he was ranked number one
- 13:49Speaker 1: twenty eight on the consensus Big. Board you got it
- 13:51Speaker 1: would pick number two twenty, one so that's pretty. Significant
- 13:56Speaker 1: there were twenty two tight ends picked this, year that's
- 13:58Speaker 1: the second most ever in a normal. Year Does Jack
- 14:01Speaker 1: endries go much?
- 14:02Speaker 2: Higher, YEAH i actually got it was there was a
- 14:05Speaker 2: lot of good depth at that. Position maybe not high end,
- 14:08Speaker 2: talent but very, good like middle of the round type.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Talent where if, yeah like you, said if it's a normal,
- 14:15Speaker 2: draft he definitely goes. Higher and he brings a very
- 14:20Speaker 2: good skill set to what we do in the past,
- 14:22Speaker 2: game really good. Hands it's funny BECAUSE i, actually you,
- 14:27Speaker 2: KNOW i watched him when he was At cow With
- 14:28Speaker 2: mendoza just going into the. SCHOOL i didn't go to
- 14:32Speaker 2: his school this, year but, YEAH i mean he's he's
- 14:35Speaker 2: a guy where if he is if he has a
- 14:37Speaker 2: good quarterback like we, do he can really. Excel so,
- 14:41Speaker 2: yeah we're fired up to get him.
- 14:43Speaker 1: There your final draft pick Was navy defensive Tackle Landon.
- 14:46Speaker 1: ROBINSON i became interested in him With cincinnati Face navy
- 14:50Speaker 1: and The Liberty. Bowl seems like an incredible. Kid defensive
- 14:54Speaker 1: line Coach Jerry montgomery coached him in The East west.
- 14:57Speaker 3: Game what Was jerry's? Feedback loved?
- 14:59Speaker 2: HIM i mean he was raving about him after the
- 15:04Speaker 2: Lost oar game and just his ability to not only
- 15:10Speaker 2: affect the quarterback as a pass, rusher but his ability
- 15:13Speaker 2: to be stout in the run game and split the double.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Teams and THEN i think one of the main things
- 15:18Speaker 2: that stuck out stuck out about him With jerry was
- 15:21Speaker 2: just his FOOTBALL iq and his ability to RETAIN i
- 15:25Speaker 2: think he's got high FOOTBALL, q high football. Character, so,
- 15:29Speaker 2: yeah another guy that we're really excited.
- 15:31Speaker 1: About you're asked about this a few days. Ago you
- 15:33Speaker 1: didn't sign or draft a.
- 15:35Speaker 3: Linebacker is that.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Just the way it went or is that a strong
- 15:40Speaker 1: statement about the guys you?
- 15:42Speaker 2: Have, yeah, well we drafted to last year and there
- 15:46Speaker 2: are they're still, young you. KNOW i think as a,
- 15:49Speaker 2: group we all feel like they started to ascend as
- 15:51Speaker 2: the season went. On maybe a little bit shaky early
- 15:54Speaker 2: in the, year but they did play better as the
- 15:56Speaker 2: season went. On it takes time for that, position just
- 16:00Speaker 2: because there's so much going on as a rookie to
- 16:02Speaker 2: throw out a rookie linebacker out there and produce it's not.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Easy but both guys did and they played very well
- 16:09Speaker 2: towards the end of the. Season so we did invest
- 16:11Speaker 2: in them in that room last. Year but, yeah going
- 16:15Speaker 2: into free, agency we have linebackers. Stacked we. Had we
- 16:18Speaker 2: talked about linebackers and free. Agency we talk about adding,
- 16:21Speaker 2: them but when you have other holes that you need to,
- 16:24Speaker 2: fill like we talked about on THE d, line we
- 16:26Speaker 2: wanted to get better. There maybe you prioritize different position.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Groups obviously THE d, line the better you are up,
- 16:34Speaker 2: front the better the linebackers. Play so we felt like
- 16:38Speaker 2: we get better up front and if we can try
- 16:40Speaker 2: to get a, linebacker we Would and so, yeah again
- 16:43Speaker 2: we talked about the free agency in line and we
- 16:45Speaker 2: talked about the linebackers and free.
- 16:46Speaker 4: Agency it just did not align.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Properly and then in the, draft we have linebacker stacked
- 16:53Speaker 2: and we're.
- 16:54Speaker 4: Talking about them throughout the.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Draft, definitely you know there are players in the mix
- 17:00Speaker 2: that may have gone ahead or you, know ahead of our,
- 17:04Speaker 2: picks and it just didn't fall that. Way so, again
- 17:08Speaker 2: are you would you rather take a linebacker or would
- 17:11Speaker 2: you rather take cash As. HOWE i think we'd all
- 17:13Speaker 2: rather take cash As, howell who improves our pass Us and.
- 17:17Speaker 4: You, know so it just it's just the way it.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Fell last, year you picked Up Noah fant at the
- 17:23Speaker 1: start of training. Camp he Signed Dalton reisner just before
- 17:26Speaker 1: the start of the. Season there's still some free agents
- 17:29Speaker 1: out there right. Now but do you figure that that
- 17:31Speaker 1: pool will improve based on roster, cuts salary, cap, casualties et.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Cetera, Yeah we're we are not done just because the drafts.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Done we are still working and we're still going to
- 17:44Speaker 2: look to add. Players we're still going to look to
- 17:47Speaker 2: try to get better and improve.
- 17:48Speaker 4: The roster in any way we.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Can we'll bring guys in for, Workouts we'll keep monitoring
- 17:53Speaker 2: the ready, list and again there's there's still plenty of
- 17:57Speaker 2: time before we get going here and training. Camp AND
- 18:01Speaker 2: i think no offense was what some sometime in a
- 18:04Speaker 2: couple weeks in the training camp maybe last. Year so,
- 18:07Speaker 2: YEAH i mean there's there's guys that will become available
- 18:11Speaker 2: as the rookies get, signed and we'll try to find
- 18:15Speaker 2: players that will improve our auster.
- 18:17Speaker 4: As we go.
- 18:17Speaker 1: Here final, thing big picture, question what stands out to
- 18:21Speaker 1: you about this draft class as a.
- 18:23Speaker 2: WHOLE i think the character of the players that we brought.
- 18:28Speaker 2: In they're all wired the right, way they all love,
- 18:30Speaker 2: football they all want to, win and they're they're eager
- 18:34Speaker 2: to get going.
- 18:35Speaker 3: Here So steve really appreciate your. Time thanks so, much
- 18:38Speaker 3: you got.
- 18:38Speaker 4: It thank. You up, Next.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Barrett carter And Demetrius knight react to The bengals not
- 18:44Speaker 1: drafting or signing a veteran free agent. Linebacker but, first
- 18:48Speaker 1: here's a quick reminder that The Bengals booth podcast is
- 18:51Speaker 1: brought to you by Pay, corps proud to be The

- 19:12Speaker 1: you let out a yell or said holy bleep when
- 19:15Speaker 1: The bengals traded For All pro defensive Tackle Dexter. Lawrence,
- 19:19Speaker 1: well just so you, know second year Linebacker Barrett carter
- 19:23Speaker 1: did the same. THING i.
- 19:25Speaker 5: SCREAMED i was on the pickle ball.
- 19:26Speaker 6: COURT i screamed my.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Asshole fellow second year Linebacker Demetrius knight explains Why Dexter
- 19:32Speaker 1: lawrence makes their job.
- 19:34Speaker 6: Easier that's a guy that's going to take up a
- 19:36Speaker 6: bunch of blacks for you where we can play faster
- 19:38Speaker 6: and more, downhill having a year under our. Belts we
- 19:41Speaker 6: can notch that up under a year and being more
- 19:44Speaker 6: comfortable into a new, system learning different positions and things like.
- 19:47Speaker 3: That so that allows us to play.
- 19:49Speaker 6: Faster but a guy that can you fill up a mcdonald'
- 19:52Speaker 6: drive through also allows you to play a little bit
- 19:54Speaker 6: faster as. Well so, yeah he makes us better by
- 19:57Speaker 6: not worrying about offensive lineman climbing up to you, fast
- 20:01Speaker 6: making game scheme a lot more you, know wreckable because
- 20:03Speaker 6: when Office lemon try to, move they're gonna have to
- 20:06Speaker 6: think twice because he's gonna have somebody's guard or tackle
- 20:09Speaker 6: in the backfield and.
- 20:09Speaker 3: Missing it the whole.
- 20:10Speaker 6: Place so he's gonna make it a lot easier to you,
- 20:12Speaker 6: know read the game a lot. Faster just just get.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Off And Stephen radissivik pointed out in our, interview The
- 20:18Speaker 1: bengals considered signing a veteran linebacker and free agency and
- 20:22Speaker 1: or taking a linebacker in the, draft but ultimately they
- 20:26Speaker 1: decided to roll with the duo they selected in the
- 20:29Speaker 1: second and fourth rounds last. Year it's clearly a vote
- 20:33Speaker 1: of confidence For carter And.
- 20:35Speaker 5: Night you, know it feels. Great you, KNOW i know
- 20:37Speaker 5: that they trust they trust what we have in this.
- 20:39Speaker 5: Building they trust, me D, Night Ob, joe all the, Guys.
- 20:43Speaker 5: Shaka so it means the world of me and it
- 20:45Speaker 5: stills a lot of confidence to. Me So i'm suady
- 20:47Speaker 5: to just keep, working keep stack in.
- 20:48Speaker 3: Days you bring a championship back To, CINCINNATI i believe
- 20:51Speaker 3: it shows a level of.
- 20:52Speaker 6: Trust but it also you, know kicks us into a
- 20:55Speaker 6: little bit, more just to show them, that, hey they
- 20:57Speaker 6: trust us even more going to, year going into year
- 21:00Speaker 6: two and have helped us out a ton until you'll
- 21:02Speaker 6: be able to get the job down.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Upfront one of the reasons why The bengals are banking
- 21:05Speaker 1: On barrett And demetrius is the improvement they showed last.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Season if you look at THEIR pff, Grades knight's top
- 21:13Speaker 1: two games were the final two games of the, year
- 21:16Speaker 1: and six of his top eight grades came in the
- 21:19Speaker 1: bengals final eight games of the.
- 21:21Speaker 6: SEASON i would be able to mow myself, into you,
- 21:24Speaker 6: know a begger that they can put, everywhere a beg
- 21:26Speaker 6: of that they don't have to take off the, field
- 21:28Speaker 6: right WHICH i you, Know i'll most definitely be able
- 21:30Speaker 6: to do a lot more this year with everything calming,
- 21:32Speaker 6: down AND i believe this would be definitely a bit
- 21:36Speaker 6: a big, jump not just for, me but for the
- 21:38Speaker 6: entire defense because it's got it, real LIKE i said,
- 21:40Speaker 6: upfront and it brings a ton of ton of, help
- 21:44Speaker 6: a ton of stress off off of our bones having
- 21:46Speaker 6: to plug gas and having to you, know play your
- 21:48Speaker 6: get football where now we can we can hit it
- 21:51Speaker 6: and get.
- 21:51Speaker 1: It, Similarly Barrett CARTER'S pff grades took a big jump
- 21:55Speaker 1: after the bye. Week six of his nine highest graded
- 21:58Speaker 1: performances came in The bengals final seven.
- 22:01Speaker 3: Games it definitely did not happen.
- 22:03Speaker 5: Overnight you, know we definitely worked worked our asses off
- 22:05Speaker 5: to get to this point and it's still to what
- 22:07Speaker 5: we're trying to achieve in the.
- 22:08Speaker 3: Future so you, know we're in there.
- 22:10Speaker 5: Satisfied you, know we have to show we have to
- 22:12Speaker 5: show each, other show the world and why they have
- 22:15Speaker 5: this confidence in. Us so, definitely definitely it stills a
- 22:18Speaker 5: lot but ready to just you, know go to work
- 22:20Speaker 5: and bring a ship back.
- 22:21Speaker 1: To this back a, sense and now with a year
- 22:23Speaker 1: of experience under their, Belts carter And knight are eager
- 22:26Speaker 1: to show that The bengals were right in believing in.
- 22:29Speaker 5: Them i'll, say is, that you, know we're both in
- 22:32Speaker 5: the fires, together if that makes. Sense you, know usually
- 22:34Speaker 5: if you have a rookie out, there you're with A
- 22:36Speaker 5: vet or you're playing alongside A. Vet but we were
- 22:39Speaker 5: both really just trying to like we're like learning at
- 22:41Speaker 5: the same. Time LIKE i can speak for the both of,
- 22:44Speaker 5: us like we never saw a. Fullback we never saw
- 22:47Speaker 5: A qb under, center like in. College that's just like
- 22:49Speaker 5: not where the game is right. Now so you, know
- 22:51Speaker 5: come into the, league you see that so. Frequently SO
- 22:54Speaker 5: i think we were both just trying to lean on
- 22:55Speaker 5: each other with that and just try to get in
- 22:58Speaker 5: the film them and you, know try to get ahead
- 23:00Speaker 5: of anything anything we possibly can to give us the
- 23:03Speaker 5: edge Come. Sunday So i'll, say it's just what we
- 23:06Speaker 5: were exposed to and the lack of what we were exposed.
- 23:08Speaker 3: To coming up playing. Football but you, know doing.
- 23:11Speaker 5: A lot of film study from this past, year like,
- 23:13Speaker 5: well whatever we're gonna see this, year, like we're gonna
- 23:15Speaker 5: be prepared for because we've seen it in the, past
- 23:17Speaker 5: and we're gonna we're gonna prepare accordingly to make sure
- 23:19Speaker 5: that those sim sits last year don't happen this.
- 23:21Speaker 6: Year there were things that were okay in my, mind
- 23:24Speaker 6: but there's incredible room for. Improvement so the good things
- 23:28Speaker 6: in my mind, are you, KNOW i kind of pass
- 23:31Speaker 6: those along and chuck those up and hang those on
- 23:34Speaker 6: the code, rack And i'm, like, okay where CAN i focus?
- 23:36Speaker 6: On which is pretty much every every. Way so if
- 23:38Speaker 6: you're not a complete, linebacker who are you? Really so
- 23:41Speaker 6: that's that's What i'm trying to work.
- 23:42Speaker 1: On of, course there are veteran linebackers on the roster
- 23:45Speaker 1: who should benefit from playing behind an improved defensive line
- 23:49Speaker 1: and having a year of experience in Al golden, system
- 23:53Speaker 1: namely Or In, Burke's Shaka hayward And Joe Giles. Harris
- 23:57Speaker 1: they also added a rookie linebacker to the practice squad
- 24:00Speaker 1: Last november Named Antoine Powell, ryland who is a sixth
- 24:05Speaker 1: round draft pick by The. Eagles it's also been reported
- 24:08Speaker 1: that The bengals have reached agreements with two undrafted linebackers this,
- 24:12Speaker 1: Year Jack dingle from The university Of cincinnati And Eric
- 24:16Speaker 1: gentry FROM. Usc those deals won't become official until they've passed.
- 24:21Speaker 1: PHYSICALS i saw every game That dingle played to The,
- 24:24Speaker 1: bearcats and he certainly has the athleticism to play in THE.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Nfl his relative athletics score of nine point eight two
- 24:32Speaker 1: ranked sixty fifth out of three, thousand four hundred and
- 24:36Speaker 1: sixty linebackers measured since nineteen eighty. Seven that would Put
- 24:41Speaker 1: dingle in the top two. Percent jack was a three
- 24:44Speaker 1: year starter AT. Uc gentry was a Freshman All american
- 24:48Speaker 1: At Arizona state before spending his final three seasons AT,
- 24:52Speaker 1: usc and he has a unique frame for a. Linebacker
- 24:56Speaker 1: he's six seven with thirty five and three quarter inch.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Arms that crazy length helped him deflect fourteen passes and
- 25:05Speaker 1: force eight fumbles in his college. Career it seems like
- 25:09Speaker 1: every year at least one new undrafted player winds up
- 25:13Speaker 1: playing a significant role for The, bengals Like Mitch tinsley
- 25:16Speaker 1: did last, Year Ryan rico the year. Before who, knows
- 25:20Speaker 1: Maybe dingle Or gentry will be that guy this year
- 25:25Speaker 1: that's going to do. It for this episode of The
