- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to another episode of Learn Danish with Fexingo. Luna: Hey Lucas, happy to be here. I've been practicing my Danish a lot since last time. Lucas: That's great to hear. Today we're going to talk about something very social – sharing a meal. Luna: Oh, I love food. And I love Danish food. Lucas: Perfect. So, let's dive into some phrases you'd use at a dinner table. The first one is: Vil du have salt? Luna: Vil du have salt? That sounds like asking if someone wants salt. Lucas: Exactly. It means 'Would you like salt?' Let's say it slowly: Vil du have salt? Luna: Vil du have salt? Lucas: Great. So if someone asks you that, you can answer: Ja tak, det vil jeg gerne. Luna: Ja tak, det vil jeg gerne. That's 'Yes please, I'd like that.' Lucas: You got it. Let's hear it again: Ja tak, det vil jeg gerne. Luna: Ja tak, det vil jeg gerne. Lucas: Perfect. Now, imagine you want someone to pass the potatoes. You say: Må jeg få kartoflerne? Luna: Må jeg få kartoflerne? That means 'May I have the potatoes?' Lucas: Yes, exactly. Slowly: Må jeg få kartoflerne? Luna: Må jeg få kartoflerne? Lucas: And when someone passes you something, they say: Værsgo. Luna: Værsgo. Is that like 'Here you go'? Lucas: Exactly. Let's practice: Værsgo. Luna: Værsgo. Lucas: Now, after you've tasted the food, you might ask: Smager det godt? Luna: Smager det godt? That's 'Does it taste good?' Lucas: Right. And you can answer: Det smager fantastisk. Luna: Det smager fantastisk. That means 'It tastes fantastic.' Lucas: Yes. Now let's put it all together in a little scene. Imagine we're at dinner. I'll ask you: Vil du have salt? Luna: Ja tak, det vil jeg gerne. Lucas: Værsgo. Luna: Må jeg få kartoflerne? Lucas: Værsgo. Luna: Smager det godt? Lucas: Det smager fantastisk. Luna: That was fun. I feel like I could actually use these phrases. Lucas: You definitely could. And that's the beauty of learning a language – you can use it in real situations.
