- 0:48Put him in a bag.
- 0:49Laughing everywhere.
- 0:55Welcome to drive thru episode number 50.
- 0:59This is our monthly recap where we put together a menu of automotive,
- 1:02motorsport, and random car adjacent news.
- 1:04Pull up to window number one for some automotive news.
- 1:08Hello?
- 1:09Can you hear us?
- 1:10I can hear you.
- 1:11I can't see you.
- 1:12I'm assuming you guys are holding off until the big costume reveal.
- 1:16Well, we thought we would do the whole episode in darkness, right?
- 1:19And then we could sing, Hello darkness, my old friend.
- 1:23But I don't think our fans would enjoy the dark screen.
- 1:26I don't know.
- 1:27I've got a face for dark screens.
- 1:29All right, let's see it.
- 1:30This is awesome.
- 1:32Oh, my man!
- 1:34NEEE!
- 1:36By the way, I don't know where you got narwhal.
- 1:38Isn't it a narwhal?
- 1:39It's like a unicorn.
- 1:41I don't know what that is.
- 1:42No, it's just a unicorn.
- 1:43It's just a unicorn.
- 1:45For some reason, I had it in my head that you were a narwhal.
- 1:47Maybe you wished I was a narwhal.
- 1:50Woah, look at Tanya!
- 1:51You ready for this?
- 1:51This is gonna be like
- 2:14Eric, you're just you.
- 2:16It's like burning my I have to wear the sunglasses because I
- 2:19can't stand to look at this shirt.
- 2:21It's so freaking bright.
- 2:22I wear my sunglasses at night so I can, so I can watch you weave
- 2:29and breathe your storylines.
- 2:32Oh my god, ew.
- 2:33I thought it was keep track of visions in my head.
- 2:36Oh, that's like another verse.
- 2:37Yeah.
- 2:38This is the musical episode.
- 2:40You are Eric circuit 2022.
- 2:42I'm bringing back the days of SRO, man.
- 2:45I am a yellow flag.
- 2:47Tanya is a snowboarder who's trapped in Bloodborne.
- 2:52And I have a horn.
- 2:54You're a narwhal.
- 2:57Meanwhile, back at the ranch.
- 2:59Last time we talked about the 5.
- 3:000, but this is the big 5.
- 3:010 for us!
- 3:0250!
- 3:0350 drive thru episodes.
- 3:04You know there are podcasts out there that don't have 50 episodes?
- 3:08And we have 50 of just the drive thru.
- 3:10That is astounding.
- 3:12It's inception.
- 3:13What layer are we on?
- 3:15Because we are a podcast inside of the podcast?
- 3:18Inside of the podcast, inside of the network.
- 3:20Goodnight.
- 3:21What's more impressive that we have 50 episodes of just the drive-through, or
- 3:25that our listenership has not changed.
- 3:27It hasn't gone down.
- 3:28It's gone up.
- 3:29So that's a good thing.
- 3:30Adding one or two kids to the mix doesn't count for going up.
- 3:33They keep listening to that d and d episode of rpe.
- 3:36You know, I don't know what to say.
- 3:37Yeah, yeah.
- 3:38Yeah.
- 3:39Speaking of on repeat, we have done some Halloween episodes in the past, trying to
- 3:45be all spooky and drive through haunted houses in Florida and stuff like that.
- 3:49You know, we gave it some thought and said, why don't we talk about topics
- 3:53that I don't know if it's because of chat GPT or because of our computers
- 3:57or big brothers always listening, but topics and stories that have come back
- 4:00to haunt us in the month of October, right off the top from last month, we
- 4:05were literally talking about Chrysler.
- 4:07Where they were in the world no sooner did the episode publish and they're
- 4:12already saying off with his head So the CEO his contract is up Carlos.
- 4:19He's got open to work on his LinkedIn right now You know, it's all good.
- 4:23I get it.
- 4:24But who wants this job?
- 4:26Who wants to be at the head of Stellantis right now?
- 4:29Not that guy.
- 4:30As I dug into this a little bit more, yeah, he's 66, he can make all the
- 4:33excuses about, I'm leaving for family reasons and this and that and the other.
- 4:37Just go do something with your life.
- 4:39Yeah, right.
- 4:40I noticed there's been a little bit of restructuring at Stellantis
- 4:44over the last couple of years.
- 4:45So if you kind of go back to when all this got started, and we did an episode
- 4:50Way back in the drive through, we talked about the Stellantis family tree and who
- 4:55is connected to who and second cousins and all this kind of stuff going on.
- 4:58And now they got this new seal slide that they have on their website
- 5:01and I actually dug into this, make sure it wasn't somebody just, you
- 5:04know, rendering it themselves.
- 5:05And so they've actually kind of minimize the brands inside of Stellantis.
- 5:09What I discovered was.
- 5:10Ferrari was spun off.
- 5:12It's now its own company.
- 5:14It's got a Dutch backing and it's kind of back in the hands of the
- 5:16Ferrari family and stuff like that.
- 5:18So they got out from underneath the talons of Fiat.
- 5:21So I thought that was pretty cool.
- 5:22And that kind of explains why things have changed so much at Ferrari, even
- 5:26recently with the introduction of the F80 and some of the other cars that
- 5:30William's been talking about on his show.
- 5:32But I had to laugh when I saw the Lancia logo.
- 5:35Yeah.
- 5:36Okay.
- 5:36What cars are they making?
- 5:38Forget that noise.
- 5:39But also surprising was seeing the Vauxhall logo under Stellantis.
- 5:43And I'm like, when did that happen?
- 5:45That was a GM thing.
- 5:46Yeah, exactly.
- 5:47It was like GM of UK.
- 5:49It's always been Vauxhall.
- 5:50And I'm like, wait, what?
- 5:52I find that kind of interesting because through Vauxhall, you've also got.
- 5:57That weird relationship with Holden.
- 6:00So I'm wondering like, what other interesting muscle cars might Dodge end
- 6:04up with in the future as things progress.
- 6:07And then finally, I also read an article talking about how they might, and I'm
- 6:12going to put big air quotes around might, Sell off Maserati, which is something
- 6:17we've been angling at for a while now.
- 6:18It's like, well, what's the point who buys Maserati's if they sell off Maserati,
- 6:22who would they sell it to Ferrari got sold to a Dutch holding company.
- 6:26Does Maserati go to the Chinese like a Lotus or something like that?
- 6:29It bothered me a bit.
- 6:31But interesting to see the logos that are on this slide.
- 6:35Opal was surprising to me too, because they had ties to GM as well.
- 6:39I've also heard some rumors about, is the Chrysler brand still going to be around?
- 6:43And so some of this stuff happens quietly in the background, like Ford
- 6:47and GM pulling out of Australia was a big deal and everybody made us think
- 6:51about it, but Opal gets sold and.
- 6:54It's sort of like if a tree falls in a forest in this
- 6:56country, who here's that tree?
- 6:58No one.
- 6:58Yeah.
- 6:58Nobody cares.
- 6:59Exactly.
- 7:00Coming back to haunt me.
- 7:01Do you guys want to hear the latest in the Pacifica saga?
- 7:05I was wondering if we were going to get back to like things that have come
- 7:08back to haunt us, like personally.
- 7:10Cause I was expecting to hear about the 924, uh, and then the R32,
- 7:17you know, and things like that.
- 7:19As we were having the last drive through, it was talking about how
- 7:21the Pacifica went in for service.
- 7:23We were unsure if it was going to be the fourth transmission,
- 7:25you know, all this kind of thing.
- 7:26And by the grace of whatever omnipotent being you believe in, it
- 7:31wasn't a transmission for a change.
- 7:33It was related to the hybrid.
- 7:35And it was like the heating system that keeps the batteries
- 7:38at whatever optimal temperature.
- 7:39Now I will say, we had a moment the other day, I turned the car on, it hadn't been
- 7:44plugged in, the battery was depleted, and it threw up the big red wrench again,
- 7:48and it said, service charging system.
- 7:51I'm like, did somebody try to charge the van when we weren't looking?
- 7:54Like I'm not even parked in a place where there's electric chargers around.
- 7:57It hasn't been charged since last night.
- 7:59I did the it crap thing.
- 8:00I turned it off and I turned it back on again.
- 8:02All the errors went away and I kept driving and no issues there,
- 8:05but so far, so good, all of it was covered under warranty yet again,
- 8:09I can't throw too much hate at Stellantis product, ask for max care.
- 8:17So you've had the van for how long?
- 8:18We've had it since 2019.
- 8:20And how much of that time has it spent in the shop?
- 8:23If I tally it all up, I'd say six months out of five years.
- 8:27It's been in the shop six months, more or less.
- 8:30So it doesn't sound like it was six months out of five years.
- 8:33That's a month every year.
- 8:35That's a lot of time for your vehicle to be down.
- 8:38I've had my truck for seven years.
- 8:39It's been down one day.
- 8:42Yeah, but you drive.
- 8:43A Toyota Tundra that has been made the same way forever.
- 8:47She's driving a space shuttle.
- 8:48I understand.
- 8:49We've had our van for one year.
- 8:51It's been in the shop zero days.
- 8:53Yes.
- 8:54Toyota reliability.
- 8:55There's something to be said about it.
- 8:56But what I'm really interested in with the Pacifica is I was thinking about
- 9:00it the other day when I was driving it.
- 9:01We are finally over 100, 000 miles.
- 9:04I feel like it's a TMU car.
- 9:05And for those that don't know the acronym TMU is true mileage
- 9:08unknown because when you're in electric mode, it is clocking miles.
- 9:12But those are body miles.
- 9:13So I don't know how many miles the engine has on it.
- 9:16You know, when you sell a car, it's like, well, how many miles on it?
- 9:18You assume the engine and the body match.
- 9:21So if it has 100, 000 miles, everything has 100, 000 miles.
- 9:23But realistically, the way this thing operates, the motor doesn't
- 9:27run for a large portion of the time.
- 9:29And so I was like, how many miles does the van actually have?
- 9:32So I'm thinking it might have 60% Of the miles.
- 9:37And that might be too much.
- 9:39I don't think it's 50 50, but I think it might be 60%.
- 9:42So let's just say the van only has 60, 000 miles on the motor, which would make
- 9:46that stat of six months in the shop.
- 9:48Even worse.
- 9:49I was waiting for you to go there.
- 9:52Just saying.
- 9:53Speaking of Chrysler.
- 9:55Oh boy.
- 9:55Remember they sold negative one vehicles last year.
- 9:58Yeah, but then they sold another dot start.
- 10:00First of all, why does a dealer have a brand new dot start sitting on their
- 10:04lot in the year of our Lord 2024?
- 10:06See, this is why lost and found existed.
- 10:08Just when you thought they were all gone.
- 10:11You found another one, Brad.
- 10:12It was hand delivered to me.
- 10:14It's been sitting on the lot for eight years.
- 10:17Who wants an eight year old brand new car that isn't a collector car?
- 10:20I want to know what kind of loan the person got on this because they
- 10:23probably didn't walk in and pay cash.
- 10:25What do you think their payment is on this car?
- 10:27Is it like the Ford Escort?
- 10:28Is it like a 600 payment on a 30 year old Ford Escort?
- 10:32Well, as much as we joke about this, and we've talked about this before, it brings
- 10:35up a really interesting conversation about if a car sits on a dealership lot
- 10:39for, let's say, a year or two years, and in the case of Dodge Vipers and
- 10:43NSXs for like an eternity, how much does it depreciate just sitting there?
- 10:47Because the dealership can't ask Sticker For a 2016 Dodge Dart,
- 10:53which was, let's say it was 25, 000 to just pick a round number.
- 10:56That was 25, 000 in 2016.
- 11:00So with inflation, what is that now?
- 11:03Is that a 32, 000 car?
- 11:05It's not worth 32, 000.
- 11:07But at some point they hit a floor.
- 11:08I mean, my guess is they probably sold this car for 15.
- 11:11For 15, 000.
- 11:12That's my guess.
- 11:13Brand new eight year old car, but still zero, like very low miles.
- 11:17I'm sure, I'm sure nobody was test driving this thing.
- 11:19So then that begs the question, if they were using it to, let's say they got to
- 11:23run it eventually or take the battery out.
- 11:25I don't know, but you can't just let it sit there for eight years
- 11:27and rot in the parking lot.
- 11:28Is it sold as used at that point?
- 11:30Because it's got some, let's say demo miles on it.
- 11:33It's not used, but it's probably sold as a demo.
- 11:35If it was never titled to anybody else, it wouldn't be.
- 11:38And what kind of warranty do you get on a brand new eight year old car?
- 11:41Like how does that?
- 11:41Well, you just told everybody on any Solantis product, you
- 11:44get the max care warranty.
- 11:45That's true.
- 11:46They probably got the max care warranty thrown in.
- 11:48Would you want a brand new Dodge Dart today?
- 11:51I've never wanted a Dodge Dart brand new or otherwise.
- 11:56They're not that bad.
- 11:57I mean, they're better than the Chrysler 200s.
- 11:59Neon derivatives in some respects.
- 12:01The 200 and the, uh, Dodge Dart work.
- 12:04Alfa Romeo, I forget what chassis they were built on, but I rode in a couple.
- 12:08They weren't that bad.
- 12:09They weren't that good either.
- 12:11But anyway, talking about topics that have come back to haunt us,
- 12:14remember we were chatting a while ago about California and how they want
- 12:19to always keep up with the Joneses.
- 12:20Well, they wanted to keep up with European regulations to limit speed.
- 12:25They've actually passed their first bill in what I would assume
- 12:28is a series of bills yet to come.
- 12:30And I thought this ironic because the headline reads, how California
- 12:34plans to stop you from speeding 10 miles over the speed limit.
- 12:38Isn't one mile over the limit speeding like by the law?
- 12:43Why do we have this like, well, 55, but it's okay to do 65, obviously, they're
- 12:48going to use GPS and electronics and all this stuff to limit you based on whatever
- 12:52the speed limit is just like your garment.
- 12:54It beeps at you like we've talked about.
- 12:56Right?
- 12:56But now it's law that it's going to come into effect at 2030 that vehicles are
- 13:02going to start having this type of nanny.
- 13:04Built into their electronic systems to limit you from speeding.
- 13:08And it's not limiting you.
- 13:09All it is is flashing a warning on your dashboard telling you you've exceeded
- 13:1310 miles an hour over the speed limit, which would have to mean that your
- 13:16dashboard is connected to GPS to know what the speed limit on a road is.
- 13:21GPS and a front facing camera is what this says here.
- 13:24But you know what's funny?
- 13:25My very first 2001 Volkswagen, you could set a speed limit warning for
- 13:30other drivers and when anybody went over that speed limit, it would flash the
- 13:34dash doesn't match the speed limit, but whenever the car went over a certain
- 13:38number, it would let the driver know.
- 13:40Hey, don't do this.
- 13:41So this is not new technology.
- 13:43You can also turn it off, I think.
- 13:44Yeah, obviously you can turn it off, but it's really a law to institute
- 13:48a nanny that the manufacturers must comply with, but the rest of us
- 13:52can just ignore it and go about it.
- 13:54Well, the real question is.
- 13:55What does this lead to?
- 13:57It's almost like a gateway law.
- 13:59It's like, you crack the door open on this, and now, what does it become later?
- 14:04Because this isn't, who cares?
- 14:06It's like lane assist, where the car, like, shakes because it
- 14:09sensed you hit the paint line.
- 14:11It's like, okay, whatever, I can turn that off, keep going,
- 14:13drive on the line all I want.
- 14:15The first sign is it notifies you.
- 14:18The next sign or the next step in this evolution of notifies
- 14:23your insurance company.
- 14:24It notifies law enforcement Notifies the manufacturers to void your
- 14:28warranty and this that and the other and then all of a sudden nobody's
- 14:32driving That's the escalation.
- 14:34That's scary.
- 14:35You guys took it to that extreme and I see it the other way where
- 14:38Okay, this system is in the car.
- 14:40It's tested.
- 14:41It's vetted It's somewhat accurate and it adjusts with the road
- 14:44that you're on and this and that.
- 14:46I've made the comment before, we go back to like episode 42,
- 14:49I think it was, is that we're talking about the levitating eggs.
- 14:51Enjoy going at the speed limit because legally all these self
- 14:55driving vehicles are going to have to go at the posted speed limit
- 14:58because then it doesn't make sense.
- 14:59Auto driving Tesla run at 10 mile an hour over the speed limit,
- 15:02they're speeding regardless.
- 15:03What I think is going to happen is, to your point Tanya, if this is a
- 15:06gateway, Once it's tied into the MFI system and the MFI talks to the EFI.
- 15:13Why inform the insurance company?
- 15:15Why notify the police?
- 15:16That's all extra work and it's gonna take too long to even enforce it because
- 15:21they gotta dispatch and this and that and no, they don't have to dispatch it.
- 15:24Mail you a ticket, . That's just it.
- 15:26But what's to stop them from just.
- 15:28Slowing the car down, especially now that we have electric brakes.
- 15:32We have electric this and electric different than adaptive cruise control
- 15:35But you're insinuating that they actually care about safety when really
- 15:39I don't think they care about safety.
- 15:40They care about revenue Yeah, they care about the speeding ticket revenue
- 15:44insurance company care about their revenue because they have bottom lines
- 15:47They gotta adhere to they've got a board of directors that they've got
- 15:50to line their pockets with which is why our insurance costs are So high
- 15:53I don't think they care about safety.
- 15:54I think they care about money and this is a money generator.
- 15:57So the insurance company thing is always interesting because it can be very
- 16:00divisive when you talk about insurance companies, you know, they're when you
- 16:03need it canceled after you need it, you know, all those kinds of things.
- 16:06I often wonder it's in the insurance company's best interest for you
- 16:10not to get into an accident, not to speed, not to do not to this.
- 16:13If you think about it.
- 16:14Because basically they're sitting on their dirty criminal butts, collecting
- 16:18money, playing in the stock market or whatever they do with it, right?
- 16:21It's the reality of the situation.
- 16:23It behooves them to make sure that you follow the laws and you never get into
- 16:26an accident, the cars drive themselves.
- 16:28But when you get to that point, who's liable, right?
- 16:31Well, we talked about that before with self driving cars.
- 16:33Are you really driving?
- 16:34If the car is self driving, it's implied in that statement
- 16:38that you are not driving.
- 16:39The car is driving itself.
- 16:41So what the hell is the point of insurance?
- 16:42Why am I paying for it?
- 16:43So it's an interesting game.
- 16:45The further we look down this tunnel, when we start talking about insurance,
- 16:49you know, this reminds me of one of the top gear specials where Jeremy Clarkson
- 16:54was driving the R35 GTR in Japan.
- 16:58And I don't know if this was real or not.
- 17:00But again, it's.
- 17:00television entertainment, but he was saying that he could not go over a certain
- 17:04speed GPS, you know, electronically controlled until he got to the racetrack.
- 17:09And then the GPS knew when the car was on the racetrack
- 17:12and it released that limiter.
- 17:14I don't know if any of that was true, but I mean, it was part of the skit.
- 17:17And see, that's where my head was going.
- 17:19I was thinking exactly.
- 17:20That's what's going to happen on the roads where tried this trick
- 17:24in the seventies and eighties.
- 17:25We'll only make the gauge go to 85.
- 17:27So the car isn't faster than the 85, you know, that kind of thing.
- 17:30But yes, with GPS, with electronics, with the MFIs, talking to the
- 17:33efis, what's to stop them from just limiting the car to 55 miles an
- 17:38hour or whatever the speed limit is?
- 17:39Then why are we even bothering building B eights and V sixes and all this crap?
- 17:44Why don't we just make lighter weight, lower horsepower, more
- 17:47fuel efficient cars, then that only go to the speed limit?
- 17:49'cause I don't need a car that can go do 120.
- 17:51There's no speed limit.
- 17:52That's 120 except for that like one highway in Montana, right
- 17:55where there is no speed limit.
- 17:57I totally agree with your point.
- 17:58The horsepower wars are still out there too.
- 18:01You know, you've got the new ZO six Corvette is a thousand horsepower to do
- 18:06what in America, it doesn't make sense.
- 18:07Now, places in Europe where they've even started to kind of climb back.
- 18:12I heard about the Autobahn like, Oh, we might be putting speed
- 18:15limits on the Autobahn because things are out of control.
- 18:17They started doing that in Italy on the Alto Strada and other
- 18:20places where it's like, you know, it's not unlimited anymore.
- 18:23I guess unless you're in the middle of the United Arab Emirates or something where
- 18:27they got those, you know, massive highways that you could just go ballistically fast.
- 18:31What's the point?
- 18:32Go to the racetrack.
- 18:33Like Brad's saying.
- 18:34It's money.
- 18:34It's an ego thing.
- 18:35I'm going to pound my chest.
- 18:37I've got a Camaro this faster than your Mustang kind of thing.
- 18:39Even though the speed limits on the roads that we drive on are exactly
- 18:42the same and we can't go over them.
- 18:43My car still makes more.
- 18:45As the 57, 000 other ones that were made on the same assembly line that year.
- 18:49Okay.
- 18:50It doesn't matter.
- 18:50My car is my car.
- 18:51My car is special.
- 18:52Tell me I'm wrong.
- 18:53Tell me it's not about ego and it's not about money.
- 18:55Yeah.
- 18:55Yeah.
- 18:56I don't disagree.
- 18:57Everything comes down to the money.
- 18:58Well, this next one is right up Tanya's alley.
- 19:00We're still talking about nannies here.
- 19:03Cutting edge technology coming from Nissan.
- 19:06I love this.
- 19:09Nissan's latest driving assist feature encourages drivers to
- 19:11quit holding up the left lane.
- 19:13I like it.
- 19:14Get the hell out.
- 19:15Move.
- 19:16Over!
- 19:18On the East Coast, the slow lane is the left lane.
- 19:21I mean, I pass so many people in the right lane, it's not even funny.
- 19:24Just kind of trundling along.
- 19:26I just, again, I've witnessed so many things, like we talked about last episode.
- 19:29Driving in and out of the city for the last couple of months.
- 19:31There's only so much space in the right lane.
- 19:35So what does this do?
- 19:36Is this another like, Learning!
- 19:37Learning!
- 19:37You dumbass slowpoke!
- 19:40Get out of the left lane!
- 19:42Like, is that all it does?
- 19:43So, what I'm reading here is, if the car in front of you is moving too slow, it'll
- 19:48suggest that you overtake them, and then you move over, and then the car will
- 19:54retake control from you, because they're pro pilot, whatever, but if you're in
- 19:58that lane for too long and don't move back over, It will suggest, Hey, maybe you
- 20:02should move back over to the other lane.
- 20:04So it'll suggest one move and then it'll suggest another.
- 20:08This is so dumb.
- 20:09And what about that a hole that merges on and shoots four lanes across
- 20:13and then parks in the left lane?
- 20:15Is it still going to give a warning?
- 20:16What about the driver of a certain demographic that likes to make
- 20:19right turns from the left lane?
- 20:21In the middle of the highway, you get to their exit.
- 20:23Just like the speed limiter that California imposed, this
- 20:27can be turned off or ignored.
- 20:29Of course it can.
- 20:30What's the point?
- 20:31Just say they have it.
- 20:32If it helps move someone out of the left lane, then I guess it's good.
- 20:37It's useless, but I don't know.
- 20:40Maybe it could change behavior.
- 20:42So I don't usually read the comments, but this first comment here is pretty good.
- 20:46They're amazing.
- 20:48Hoping ProPilot 2.
- 20:482 will have a mechanical robot arm that pops out of the headrest and
- 20:53smacks the driver on the side of the head after ignoring the suggestions.
- 20:57Or the next one, maybe an electric cattle prod in the base of the seat.
- 21:04No, it's going to be like that scene from Ghostbusters where every time
- 21:07he gets the card wrong, it zaps him.
- 21:12Oh, man.
- 21:13Nissan for the comic release.
- 21:15I thought this was going to be an article about an indicator warning
- 21:18you that your bumper is falling off because every Nissan seems to not
- 21:23have appropriate bumper mounting.
- 21:26I feel like Tesla needs one of those and we'll probably talk
- 21:29about that later, right, Eric?
- 21:30Yes, we will.
- 21:31All jokes aside, this is what Nissan is devoting its attention to?
- 21:35They are so screwed.
- 21:37Why?
- 21:38What do they need to devote their attention to?
- 21:40They make one car with different names.
- 21:45They've got it down lock.
- 21:47They're good.
- 21:48So they have time to devote to stuff like this.
- 21:51If only that were true, maybe they wouldn't be in such trouble.
- 21:55Financially, if they just went through and did a rebranding and everything was
- 22:00Ultima based, but instead they've got these other vehicles and their profits
- 22:05are down 70 percent year over year.
- 22:09Has anybody yet seen a 400 Z on the road?
- 22:12I've yet to see one.
- 22:13I'm just saying no.
- 22:15But I see a lot of frontiers these days.
- 22:17Uh, I mean, I'm sorry, Altima Sports Altima Sports Altima,
- 22:21sports Ultima Sport Track.
- 22:24Yeah.
- 22:24There is a frightening number of Altimas on the road and old
- 22:27Centras, but none of 'em are new.
- 22:29Nobody's buying new Ultima's they're only buying used Ultima's.
- 22:33Well, I did see a new one on the road the other day and I thought it was a
- 22:36Maxima and then it passed us and it said Ultima Platinum or something.
- 22:40I was like, wow, that is big.
- 22:43It's gotten huge.
- 22:45They could have just changed the badge on the back of the Maxima too.
- 22:48Oh, but they don't make the Maxima anymore.
- 22:50The Maxima.
- 22:50Oh, new Nissan Maxima 2025 reveal.
- 22:53So it's all crap.
- 22:54I thought they discontinued it.
- 22:55Somebody go to Nissan's website and figure it out.
- 22:57Car and Driver 2026 Nissan Maxima.
- 22:59What we know so far.
- 23:00We're not even 2025.
- 23:02We've reported on this.
- 23:03We went the hokey pokey on this.
- 23:05It is, it isn't, it isn't.
- 23:06And then there was a report that they got rid of the Maxima.
- 23:09Whatever, who cares.
- 23:09Well, apparently they're already talking about 2026.
- 23:11So things that come back to haunt us.
- 23:14The Maxima.
- 23:14The zombie.
- 23:15Yeah, it is.
- 23:16It is.
- 23:16I'm B.
- 23:17It's the zombie Ultima.
- 23:19Alright, since we're naming Ultimas, I got a new one for you guys.
- 23:22All of us saw this because we were all driving in together into the city.
- 23:26Traffic was stopped on the other side because we were going so slow
- 23:29and I couldn't help but not look.
- 23:30I said, I'll be damned.
- 23:32If that isn't an Ultima being drenched by firefighters, because it was a
- 23:37blades on the other side of the highway.
- 23:40Or thing.
- 23:40Immediately I turned to Jess and I said, so what do you call that one?
- 23:43It's a blastema.
- 23:46Oh, that's better than what we came up with.
- 23:48Fire Baltimore.
- 23:51Ball, ball to our ball.
- 23:53It's just a Baltimore, Baltimore in Baltimore.
- 23:58Couldn't believe it.
- 23:58I was like, had to be an Ultima.
- 23:59Of course, it's an Ultima because what else is there on the road?
- 24:02They only make the Ultima.
- 24:05Everything else is a figment of your imagination.
- 24:08The holographic projection off an Ultima.
- 24:11It's only one car.
- 24:13That's why they can focus on whatever the hell that profiler thing was.
- 24:17I already forgot because it was that cool.
- 24:20Complete trash.
- 24:22All right.
- 24:23Well, speaking of other enforcement and you know, last time we talked about
- 24:27our run ins with the law, I am the law.
- 24:32Well, guess what?
- 24:33We had talked a bunch of drive throughs ago about how people
- 24:37were speeding in the District of Columbia and the district has no way.
- 24:41Of enforcing the speeding tickets, the red light cameras, parking tickets,
- 24:45whatever, because all of these folks are out of state because the DC is DC.
- 24:49But most of the people that are infringing upon the laws are from
- 24:52Maryland and Virginia and other places.
- 24:54But that's such bull, I'm sorry, you get a ticket in another state, you
- 24:58get the ticket and you have to pay it.
- 25:00So why is DC special?
- 25:02No representation.
- 25:03That's why it's special.
- 25:04Okay, because it's crap.
- 25:06You get a ticket in another state, you're paying that fine.
- 25:09So that brings up an interesting point because obviously the DMV, Maryland, D.
- 25:12C., Virginia, they're all very close to each other and, you know, there's a lot
- 25:15of interstate travel between the three.
- 25:18If I was a Maryland resident and I racked up a bunch of speeding
- 25:21tickets in Virginia, Would those show up in the Maryland DMV system?
- 25:26Yeah, there's reciprocity.
- 25:28So that's the problem.
- 25:29DC doesn't have an agreement with Maryland or Virginia to have reciprocity
- 25:33for that to happen for whatever reason, because they're not a state.
- 25:37And so there's no interstate relationship there.
- 25:40Think about that.
- 25:41They're not a state, but they still have a government.
- 25:44They have a mayor.
- 25:45They operate more like a city, I guess.
- 25:46Let's not get into a discussion about DC mayors because these
- 25:49things are surmountable.
- 25:52Oh, I know.
- 25:52I know.
- 25:53If they're high enough on your to do list, they are.
- 25:55If they can make easy pass work from Maine to Florida.
- 25:58I mean, come on, they can make this work too.
- 26:00Yeah.
- 26:01Let me put it in perspective.
- 26:02This is how bad It is in D.
- 26:05C.
- 26:05There was basically a group that got together and added up
- 26:08all of the outstanding tickets that were owed to the D.
- 26:12C.
- 26:12Public Works from all of the out of state tickets that were issued.
- 26:16This number is staggering, folks.
- 26:18Eight hundred and eighty nine million dollars of unpaid tickets in the year
- 26:252022 alone, almost a billion, 1 billion.
- 26:30You said a group got together and counted these.
- 26:33I'm picturing a group of like high school kids with little yellow
- 26:35slips, sitting at a table, counting them like they're counting ballots.
- 26:39Yep.
- 26:39Here's one, here's one, here's one up.
- 26:42This one was paid up.
- 26:43Here's one.
- 26:44Here's one.
- 26:44I hope they had some sort of scanning device that was just reading the numbers.
- 26:48And it was all Excel spreadsheets.
- 26:50But the point is that it's.
- 26:52Staggering amount of money, but then it ties back into this california thing
- 26:57We were just talking about because they call it the steer act strengthening
- 27:02traffic enforcement education and responsibility Amendment act of 2024.
- 27:06It's very long So the steer act the clever name the punch line to all this is is
- 27:11This is kind of at the far end of this.
- 27:12So anyone convicted of criminal and reckless aggravated driving, et cetera,
- 27:17et cetera, et cetera, an intelligent speed assistance system will be installed
- 27:21in their vehicles by the DMV, which will automatically limit their speed, that they
- 27:24can be traveled on the roads according to the steer act, yada, yada, yada.
- 27:27Again, to your point, Tanya, this California thing coming from
- 27:31Europe originally, Is it gateway to stuff like this happening?
- 27:35So I don't mind in the sense of our laws are pathetic sometimes.
- 27:42That someone who drives under the influence of whatever it is, can just
- 27:47go back out and get in their car.
- 27:49So if you wanted to institute some sort of restrictive device, well, first of
- 27:53all, they shouldn't be allowed to drive, but that's not how it works, apparently.
- 27:57I'd be for that kind of thing.
- 27:59Weren't they blowing into those kazoos on their dashboard?
- 28:02Well, there used to be those kind of interlocks where you'd like, you
- 28:04have to do your own breathalyzer.
- 28:06You can't drive unless you blow the appropriate level.
- 28:09For this, you need to be convicted of criminal reckless
- 28:13and aggravated reckless driving.
- 28:15I don't think this is going to work because I don't think the people that
- 28:18are actually doing the reckless and aggravated reckless driving are going
- 28:22to be convicted for various reasons I care not to share on this podcast.
- 28:28But I feel like could be seen as targeting and police abuse
- 28:32of power and yada, yada, yada.
- 28:34But anyway, I don't think this is going to be effective.
- 28:37No, of course not.
- 28:39So that number of 889 million is going to continue to climb because people are going
- 28:45to wipe their butts with these tickets.
- 28:47This goes back to We have all these asshats running around with the
- 28:52historic tags on their daily driver.
- 28:54Don't even get me started with that.
- 28:56Which I was observing yesterday, within about 30 seconds, two cars had
- 29:01expired registration because One was august of 24 and the other one was like
- 29:07september 24 But apparently I guess maybe that's the new thing is let me
- 29:11just not pay my registration Which is supposed to contact your insurance.
- 29:15We're supposed to cancel you.
- 29:16They don't contact your insurance if you don't have it Look at brad's face If you
- 29:21get a ticket and then you don't pay it Yeah, we don't have time to send the lien
- 29:27collector against you or whatever, right?
- 29:28Like the tax collector to come knock on your door and collect your thing
- 29:32But it could tie into your insurance or even your registration and then when
- 29:37you go to renew What although maybe not registration renewal because people don't
- 29:40do that and maybe not even insurance renewal because people probably don't
- 29:43renew that either Just keep driving on expired bullshit, but it's like
- 29:46you could tie it into those systems.
- 29:48It's like oh When I go to renew, guess what?
- 29:50My unpaid tickets are showing up.
- 29:52You can't renew your stuff or your license or whatever else
- 29:55until all this stuff gets paid.
- 29:57Like, there has to be a mechanism for it.
- 29:59That is possible in the year 2024 with artificial intelligence and computing
- 30:05power and all the crap that we have.
- 30:07There's no excuse for a billion dollars in unpaid tickets.
- 30:11I don't understand how that gets unpaid.
- 30:14It's crap.
- 30:14It's all crap.
- 30:15No wonder people are like, look it, I'm going to do 100 through DC because
- 30:19I have no penalty, no consequence.
- 30:21Yeah, of course.
- 30:22It's just bad behavior.
- 30:23Duh.
- 30:24So the moral to the story is where's the best place to do 120 miles an hour with
- 30:28that V8 Camaro you were talking about?
- 30:30Apparently through DC.
- 30:31Yeah, I hope you've got spare wheels lying around because as soon as you hit one
- 30:34of those potholes, you're replacing it.
- 30:36And see, this billion dollars of revenue, which is where it should go, Into the
- 30:40transportation budget for repaving and structural improvements to the road.
- 30:45You know what I think?
- 30:45I think the lobbyist for the intelligent speed assistance system has gotten
- 30:50the ear of somebody high up in DC and they're like, we've got a great idea.
- 30:55It's going to solve all your speeding ticket problems.
- 30:58We'll run the system and we'll install them and you can pay us a fee to do it.
- 31:02But yeah, we'll get your speeding tickets paid for you.
- 31:0510 cents on the dollar.
- 31:06It's just like the conversation my wife and I have been having the last
- 31:09couple weeks as we watch the guy who does the rounds in the morning changing
- 31:13the car batteries in the speed cameras.
- 31:16So you're like, how good are these batteries?
- 31:18How long do they last?
- 31:20Jokes about those things not actually working.
- 31:22They're not always on, because if you have radar, they go off.
- 31:26There used to be one.
- 31:27Occasionally it went off.
- 31:28Mostly it didn't go off.
- 31:29And then they actually removed it.
- 31:31So I don't know what that was all about.
- 31:32Because it didn't work because the batteries were dead.
- 31:34Well, Brad, we're talking about billions.
- 31:37And you were talking about roads in DC and how you would need a new set of wheels.
- 31:42Well, I got a call back.
- 31:44Hoonigan, you guys probably read in the news, they are in chapter 11 bankruptcy,
- 31:49which is restructuring, reorganization, trying to consolidate their debt.
- 31:53They have a projected total of 1.
- 31:558 billion dollars in debt, of which they declared 1.
- 32:002 is resolvable, so there's still like 600 million on the table.
- 32:03That they're dealing with and I had to scratch my head is pretty long video.
- 32:07The guy that breaks it down does a pretty good job.
- 32:09He actually goes through as much legal paperwork as he can find stuff like that.
- 32:12But what I didn't know and now begin to appreciate is the hoonigan
- 32:18that Ken Block started and built is not the hoonigan of today.
- 32:22Although the branding is the same.
- 32:23It's a umbrella for a larger company called Wheel Pros, which is backed by
- 32:28Clearlake Capital and this and that.
- 32:30So for those of you that those names don't mean anything to you, the following
- 32:34names might mean something to you.
- 32:37Rotiform, American Racing, Fuel, TSW, Borbay, a bunch of other wheel companies.
- 32:43I think there's like 30 of them that are part of this conglomerate.
- 32:46And one more that hits close to home for you, Brad.
- 32:48They own Smittybilt.
- 32:50So the debt that Hoonigan has because wheel pros took on the name and then
- 32:56restructured everything, they have almost 2 billion in debt that they're
- 33:00trying to figure out how to resolve.
- 33:02And more than likely.
- 33:04There's going to be a thousand or more people that are basically going
- 33:07to be unemployed here pretty soon.
- 33:09So it was kind of funny when we were reading and talking about those articles
- 33:13about that exodus from Hoonigan within the year of Ken's death, where people
- 33:17were just, we're leaving Hoonigan, we're done, you know, blah, blah, blah.
- 33:20What we didn't realize was all this other turmoil under the brand name that's been
- 33:25going on, I guess, for quite a bit now.
- 33:28Obviously inside of this consolidated debt, it's not just wheel related stuff.
- 33:32It's also the factories that they bought the properties and the
- 33:35back taxes and the property taxes.
- 33:37And this is the problem with mergers and acquisitions.
- 33:39You take on that company, you take on all their baggage, you take on all their debt.
- 33:44And now their debt is your debt.
- 33:45Sort of like getting married, I guess.
- 33:47But in that respect, I almost want to divorce the Hoonigan name from the
- 33:52Wheel Pros thing to not tarnish the cool memories of Gymkhana and all that
- 33:57other stuff that we associate with Hoonigan, and this is really a Wheel
- 34:01Pros problem at the end of the day.
- 34:05So speaking of wheels, And calling back the triple article that had
- 34:08come out a bunch of months ago about Ricaro and BBS in bankruptcy.
- 34:13Well, Fanatec was also on the brink and they got a parachute from Corsair.
- 34:19Another IT company.
- 34:21They've been buying up all sorts of manufacturers.
- 34:23You know, they make memory, they make chips, they make this, they make that.
- 34:26So they bought Fanatec, they've rescued Fanatec and you know, they're going
- 34:30to bring Fanatec back from shambles.
- 34:32I had a conversation with some guys in industry and I said, so
- 34:34what do you think about this?
- 34:35What do you think about Fanatec being bought by Corsair is
- 34:38not like a bad brand name.
- 34:40I think the consensus right now, at least from what I can tell, and I
- 34:44don't necessarily disagree, is that the reason they were sort of falling
- 34:47apart is the quality had gotten worse.
- 34:50If you had any exposure to the newer Fanatec stuff, It wasn't
- 34:54as nice as it used to be.
- 34:55It wasn't as robust as it used to be because it got super popular.
- 34:58They had to cut corners.
- 34:59They had to make things cheaper, typical business stuff.
- 35:01So Corsair sweeps in at this point in their manufacturing lifecycle.
- 35:05And so does Fanatec stay where it is, or does it slide back and become like
- 35:11a Logitech Thrustmaster where it's like, it's okay, it's not that great.
- 35:15In the sim world, there's still a ton of manufacturers out there.
- 35:18You start talking about Moza, you start talking about Simicube, you
- 35:19start talking about Asetek, and a bunch of them are still a little
- 35:24bit DIY in terms of fit and finish.
- 35:26So I'm really curious to see what happens.
- 35:29The ink is still pretty wet on this new deal here, but good to see that Fanatec
- 35:33didn't just get flushed down the tubes.
- 35:35Yeah, I hope they go back to just making quality wheels in a limited
- 35:40quantity rather than trying to serve the masses and make a wheel for everybody.
- 35:43I mean, that's my big gripe with, you know, not related, but with BMW,
- 35:47they used to make decent products.
- 35:49Same with Mercedes.
- 35:50And then all of a sudden they started dumbing everything down to try and
- 35:54get a larger footprint and ended up just watering down the entire brand.
- 35:58So just stick to what you're good at.
- 36:00Make good shit.
- 36:01People will pay for it.
- 36:02Grow that way.
- 36:03Don't grow too fast, too quickly by cutting corners.
- 36:06When I redid my rig, I invested in Moza and a lot of people were like, I
- 36:10don't know, you know, this and that.
- 36:12And Moza now, even guys like Jimmy Broadbent are using Moza.
- 36:16There's a lot of people that have Moza.
- 36:17In their sims and what's funny about it is when people actually mess with it and
- 36:23stop throwing shade because you know there were fan of tech fanboys or whatever they
- 36:27go this reminds me of the old fan of tech stuff you know rumors what they are that
- 36:31stuff was reverse engineered or whatever have you it is really nice quality it's it
- 36:35feels like stuff that comes out of a car you know this and that and what i thought
- 36:38was interesting is at the same time i'm reading this article about you know
- 36:42fanatics back in business they got all this money from corsair to bail them out
- 36:46you Moses sign in a deal with Lamborghini, talk about an upward swing to your point,
- 36:51Brad, what happens now you start hitching your horse to these bigger wagons.
- 36:56And it's like, does it stay the same?
- 36:58Can they maintain the quality?
- 37:00Or are we going to see, you know, future Moser products going down?
- 37:02So the auto sphere itself, it's business, right?
- 37:05These games are played over and over and over again.
- 37:08So be curious to see what happens in the next couple of years.
- 37:10But Sim is not dead by any stretch of the imagination.
- 37:13Not nearly the same fever.
- 37:15Or fire that there was during COVID where like, you couldn't
- 37:18keep the stuff in stock.
- 37:20That's the danger in why Fanatec ended up where it was too.
- 37:23The market got saturated and you're like, well, your gear's pretty good.
- 37:26It seems to last because you know, they built something tough.
- 37:29You're only going to replace it if it breaks.
- 37:31I wish some of the cars were like that though, but Hey, all right.
- 37:34Let's switch to formula one.
- 37:36Let's talk about shenanigans.
- 37:37What is this nonsense Verstappen is cutting his career short because of
- 37:42the whole cursing censorship thing.
- 37:44Oh, clickbait.
- 37:45He made comments of like, Oh, I don't need to be here for this stuff,
- 37:49blah, blah, blah, but whatever.
- 37:52Anybody really believes he's just going to walk away?
- 37:55No.
- 37:56So there has been speculation that he may be out in a year or two anyway, just
- 38:01to go do something different, you know, with all the regulation changes in the
- 38:04sport over the next couple of years.
- 38:06Didn't he also say that there was, like, nothing else is worth it after F1?
- 38:12Wasn't he the one who said that?
- 38:13Where it's like a lesser form of racing or something, and like, be beneath
- 38:18him to do anything other than F1?
- 38:20Possibly.
- 38:21But I mean, if he wants to stop, that's it.
- 38:23Breaking news, breaking news!
- 38:28Ricardo just signed with another team!
- 38:31No he didn't.
- 38:32Psyche.
- 38:33FBull is out.
- 38:34You know, maybe Verstappen can join Ricciardo wherever he ends up next.
- 38:38Doubtful.
- 38:38I don't think he's going anywhere.
- 38:40If anything, he sets himself up.
- 38:42If Red Bull's going down the toilet, he's got an excuse.
- 38:46Oh, I was leaving anyway.
- 38:49I don't know.
- 38:50Said it before.
- 38:51I'd like to see Verstappen.
- 38:52I'd like to see Hamilton.
- 38:53I'd like to see some of the other guys.
- 38:55Do an Alonzo, and go to Indy, or go to Lamar, or go to some of
- 39:00these other disciplines of racing.
- 39:01I don't think they're beneath them.
- 39:03I just think that the boys club of Formula One is what it is, and they don't have
- 39:09the same pull if they go somewhere else.
- 39:11They might actually have to drive.
- 39:13It's Adrian Newey's fault.
- 39:14That's all we know.
- 39:15Which is probably where all the speculation of him retiring
- 39:17early is actually coming from.
- 39:19Yeah.
- 39:20The fact that he's not winning anymore.
- 39:21And there's a whole bunch of drama around that too with him
- 39:23going to Aston or whatever.
- 39:25I want to see how that plays out, but that really doesn't
- 39:27really matter until next year.
- 39:28But there's a couple other things that matter next year.
- 39:31We know Audi's coming, right?
- 39:32They're taking over Sauber, Stake, Alfa Romeo, whatever the
- 39:36hell that team is, I don't know.
- 39:37The rumor, not so rumor, is that Toyota is coming back?
- 39:41Well, they're partnering with Haas.
- 39:43You don't think this is the perfect exit strategy for Gene Haas?
- 39:46To get out of this bleeding pig.
- 39:48If that's true, then what's his deal?
- 39:50Cause he could have handed it over to Andretti.
- 39:52So what's the drama there?
- 39:54The American team to quote another American team, right?
- 39:58Maybe his ego wouldn't let him.
- 39:59Well, did anybody watch the Gunther Steiner expose where he says that
- 40:03him and Jean never got along to begin with and blah, blah, blah,
- 40:06blah, blah, and all this BS.
- 40:08I don't doubt it.
- 40:09If you ever watched, which you haven't, Netflix's Drive to Survive.
- 40:12Never gonna happen.
- 40:13Every time there was a problem in Haas, which was like, Every race.
- 40:18He was on the phone getting like, scolded by Gene.
- 40:21So I don't think the relationship was very good when every time Gene's sitting there
- 40:25watching the race and another of his cars has crashed millions of dollars later.
- 40:29Steiner's the one that's gotta sit there and take that phone call.
- 40:32I'm pretty sure that relationship wasn't a good one.
- 40:36Don't believe everything you watch on YouTube, even if it's
- 40:38from the person that was there.
- 40:42If you look back, this is not the first time Toyota has Entered into Formula One.
- 40:46This was back in the early 2000s, back in the days when the U.
- 40:50S.
- 40:50Grand Prix was at Indianapolis.
- 40:52You had drivers like Alan McNish, Ralf Schumacher, all stars, right?
- 40:58I mean, sarcasm aside, Alan McNish went on to do great things for
- 41:02Audi at Le Mans, things like that.
- 41:04If you look at What Toyota did in the past, and I'm not saying they
- 41:08haven't advanced in 20 years, we know Toyotas can be reliable and they
- 41:12can be strong and they can be fast, especially in WEC and stuff like that.
- 41:15But if you chalk it up to what they did over those five years or
- 41:20so that they were in Formula 1, they didn't amount to anything.
- 41:22It was a complete failure, which I'm actually kind of surprised Toyota
- 41:26is coming back after such a disgrace to use the phrase losing face.
- 41:31In front of the world on the formula one stage, but I'm
- 41:33happy to see them come back.
- 41:34But on the same token, I keep saying Haas, what could go wrong?
- 41:38Do they really want that on their scorecard?
- 41:41So interestingly, it says that the new agreement doesn't include Toyota
- 41:46returning as an engine supplier.
- 41:48So there'll be branded Toyota Gazoo racing will appear on the cars.
- 41:53They're going to provide.
- 41:55Design, technical, and manufacturing services, while Haas will
- 42:00provide technical expertise.
- 42:03What?
- 42:03I'm not sure.
- 42:04Money.
- 42:04That means money.
- 42:05Basically, it's a Toyota with Haas written on it.
- 42:09Yes.
- 42:10Unlike a Honda with a Porsche crest on it.
- 42:13We'll leave that where it is.
- 42:14So yes, Toyota's coming back to Formula One.
- 42:16They're basically buying Haas is what's going to be the result of this.
- 42:20And I see it as a tit for tat.
- 42:21Audi's coming up.
- 42:22Toyota says we're coming back too.
- 42:23It's going to be an interesting 2025 Formula One season.
- 42:27Oh, very weird.
- 42:27I just don't know who's going to drive for Toyota.
- 42:30Verstappen.
- 42:31Tim Yellow, Ricardo.
- 42:34Justin, he's back.
- 42:35Ricardo and Mazepin.
- 42:37Oh my God.
- 42:38Don't they already have the drivers?
- 42:40I'm sure they do.
- 42:40I don't know.
- 42:41I haven't been keeping up with it.
- 42:42Yeah.
- 42:43I think one of the new young kids, at least, I think is
- 42:46going to be a driver for Haas.
- 42:48And I'm not sure who the second driver is.
- 42:51So memorable.
- 42:52Oh, you know what it is?
- 42:53I think I saw this the other day.
- 42:54I think Ocon is going to Oh, come on.
- 42:58That's a recipe for disaster.
- 43:00Well, he got kicked out of, uh, Alpine.
- 43:03Yeah.
- 43:04So I think it's Ocon and it's the new British kid, Beerman.
- 43:08Ali, they'll be the Haas drivers because, not Magnusson.
- 43:12'cause I think he's out, basically lost his seat.
- 43:15Holberg.
- 43:15Holgenburg.
- 43:16Thank you.
- 43:16He's going to Audi because we must have a German team with German drivers is good.
- 43:22I don't think they've named the second Audi driver yet.
- 43:25And I think there's been some rumors like Schumacher, his
- 43:28name has sort of surfaced again.
- 43:30But whether that actually comes to fruition or not, I don't know.
- 43:34I mean, there's a couple drivers that don't have seats, so to speak.
- 43:37Like, I don't know that Botas or Joe Guanyu have anywhere to
- 43:42go now that Sauber's dissolved.
- 43:44Does that mean they go to Audi?
- 43:46Probably not.
- 43:47But there's also a number of other young drivers I guess they could pick up.
- 43:51Well, speaking of probably not, We gotta switch gears
- 43:57and talk about a subject within the drive thru that just continues to haunt us.
- 44:01Once you think you have it under control, it's like a bad rash, and
- 44:05it comes back, and it scratches, and it itches, and it smells weird,
- 44:08and it's pussy, and it's gross.
- 44:10It's overly dramatic.
- 44:11Is it really coming back to haunt you when it's par for the course that anytime
- 44:17Tesla says, Something's going to happen.
- 44:19It doesn't according to their timeline.
- 44:21Like, I mean, it's not haunting at this point.
- 44:24It would be haunting if it actually delivered something they
- 44:27said, according to a schedule.
- 44:29So what are they delayed this time?
- 44:31Is it the semi truck?
- 44:32Because we know it's not the cyber truck that was rushed to production as we've
- 44:35already touched after major delays.
- 44:38It was rushed to production.
- 44:39I don't even know what's been happening with the Tesla semi truck, actually.
- 44:42It doesn't matter, but no, it's the, the roadster.
- 44:47The biggest Ponzi scheme in the Tesla Donation Foundation ever.
- 44:51They need to generate those pre orders so that they can fix the Cybertruck.
- 44:56They gotta get the pre orders in for the Roadster and they can keep
- 44:59dragging that out for like 10 years.
- 45:01The only thing I can say about the Roadster is I like the way it looks.
- 45:05And I noticed that too on the road the other day with the Teslas.
- 45:08Minus the Cybertruck.
- 45:09The Teslas look better when they're self driving away from
- 45:13you, than they do coming head on.
- 45:15Like from the front, they're all like duck billed platypuses.
- 45:18But the back of the Teslas are not bad looking at all.
- 45:21Like it's got a nice derriere.
- 45:23Minus the Cybertruck.
- 45:24Got a nice butthole.
- 45:27Such childish nonsense.
- 45:29Open butthole.
- 45:30Yeah, I mean they look good from behind.
- 45:32I just wish they would fix the front.
- 45:34Now I have seen a couple of the remodeled Model 3s on the road.
- 45:38But I'm not convinced.
- 45:40It's way too angular, and then they left the back the way it was.
- 45:44When I saw it for the first time in person, there was a guy sitting
- 45:47at a traffic light, so I was walking, so I was able to really
- 45:50kind of like, absorb the look.
- 45:52At first glance, I was like, is that the new Prius?
- 45:54Because the Prius has that kind of angular with the drawn out lights.
- 45:58And then I went, oh no, that's the new Model 3.
- 46:01And so, I don't know, they're doing something funny with the design there.
- 46:04It's better, but worse, but better.
- 46:06I don't know how to describe it.
- 46:08But the Roadster's cool.
- 46:09I gotta bring this up.
- 46:10And I said we were gonna do this.
- 46:12It was gonna happen.
- 46:13We needed to stay tuned.
- 46:15We're talking rocket launchers.
- 46:16We're talking ridiculousness.
- 46:18We're talking explosions.
- 46:19Fall guy level stupidity.
- 46:22Remember when I brought up our favorite internet idiot, Whistlin Diesel, and how
- 46:26he was gonna battle test a Cybertruck?
- 46:29Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 46:30Did you guys watch the video?
- 46:31It's out!
- 46:32I did.
- 46:33I watched that video and the follow up update about the trailer hitch.
- 46:37Well, I didn't watch that one, so you'll have to tell me about it.
- 46:39But let's talk about the big It's a long video.
- 46:43It's like a half hour.
- 46:44I never watched anything from that guy other than maybe like five seconds.
- 46:50Is he the one that did like wagon wheels on a Charger or something?
- 46:54Yes.
- 46:54He's also the one that took a hacksaw to a Ferrari.
- 46:57Oh yeah.
- 46:58So I've seen like 20 seconds.
- 46:59So I watched the whole thing though.
- 47:01It was very enlightening.
- 47:03And that's his shtick, right?
- 47:05Some of the tests were just ludicrous, meaningless.
- 47:09I'm like, okay, so you backed a vehicle off of a flatbed truck
- 47:15without lowering the flatbed.
- 47:18One of those vehicles has a completely flat underpan that's reinforced because
- 47:24of the batteries it's protecting.
- 47:26The other vehicle has an exposed drivetrain that you dropped the
- 47:31weight of itself on and then ripped itself off the back of a metal plate
- 47:37and then were like shocked that the central drive axle, uh, broke.
- 47:43But okay, but let's take that the other direction and say the cyber truck split in
- 47:47half and then caught on fire and you could look at the F 150 and go, well, the draft
- 47:52shaft was the only thing I was impressed that there wasn't that we know of.
- 47:56Structural damage to the batteries good on them that they made a really, really thick
- 48:01skid plate under there, protect them.
- 48:03They make aftermarket skid plates that would fix that issue for people
- 48:07that all the roads and stuff for, call it 1, 500 protect the drive
- 48:10shaft, protect the entire drive train, oil pan engine, everything you can
- 48:14front to back skid plates, the diff.
- 48:16I mean, You can reinforce that stuff to where it would pass
- 48:20that stupid test if you had to.
- 48:21So the ludicrous part is, who's driving the vehicles in this manner?
- 48:25Like, it's an unrealistic test that really proves nothing kind of thing.
- 48:29Like, that doesn't tell me that the Cybertruck is more superior than an F 150.
- 48:34It's a dumb test.
- 48:35It does point out like, okay, good.
- 48:37I feel good about the skid plate on that Tesla.
- 48:39They abused the hell out of both of these trucks.
- 48:42Let's just talk about some of the other tests.
- 48:44I thought were kind of interesting.
- 48:46I cringed with the frunk thing.
- 48:49I can't believe he stuck his hand in there.
- 48:51Oh my God.
- 48:52I wanted to see the Ford version of that test.
- 48:56He didn't show it because the Ford most certainly would have cut off
- 48:58his fingers because it's mechanical.
- 49:01It's not, there's a manual.
- 49:02There's no electronic control.
- 49:04The hood is just the hood.
- 49:05You slam the thing is modern cars have been designed so that even if
- 49:11you were to close the door, like on a kid's hand, the way it goes
- 49:14in and closes, there's that cavity.
- 49:16And the hoods are the same way.
- 49:18Yeah.
- 49:18An old like Pontiac Bonneville from the seventies would cut your fingers off.
- 49:22Right.
- 49:22But new cars are actually kind of design where.
- 49:25It'll stop, but the Tesla, that frunk just kept closing because it's electronic.
- 49:30And it was like, and you could see him.
- 49:32I don't know how he didn't bust his hand because that looked way painful.
- 49:36It was bleeding.
- 49:37Yeah, it was awful.
- 49:38I was like, I would have done that with something else.
- 49:40I would have done that with like a carrot assistant.
- 49:44His assistant.
- 49:45Yeah, exactly.
- 49:46A lot of the video was very jackass to me.
- 49:48Yes.
- 49:49I've never seen jackass, but yes.
- 49:53I know enough of it, but yes.
- 49:55Well, nobody was stapling themselves to other selves and things like that, but.
- 49:59So the aha moments that lead to the end conclusion.
- 50:04I thought so when they did the slamming of the doors.
- 50:07Okay.
- 50:08So they were
- 50:10We give credit where credit's due we want to start there.
- 50:13So a the skid plate underneath is pretty strong.
- 50:17So his apocalyptic proclamations Apparently seemed to be accurate
- 50:23because they ignited c4 on the body panels And like, they've only dented.
- 50:30Okay.
- 50:31The stainless steel is pretty strong.
- 50:33To that point, Ford made the change a few years ago to aluminum body panels, but
- 50:39GM and Dodge, Poyota, and like other big truck, they still use steel body panels.
- 50:45So I think had it been another manufacturer, it may have
- 50:48been a different result.
- 50:49Ford is the one that went to aluminum.
- 50:52It would be interesting to see.
- 50:53What that same test would be on, not that Ford truck.
- 50:57Right.
- 50:58What was the other one?
- 50:58The beating of the car on the glass?
- 51:01When they brought out all the other YouTube jabronis,
- 51:04I thought that was stupid.
- 51:05So even though he said, I do all the exact same tests on both the cars, they
- 51:08didn't do that one on the Ford truck.
- 51:10They didn't do the same beating.
- 51:12They couldn't because the windows were already destroyed.
- 51:15Whatever, they could have gotten another door and done it.
- 51:17We've seen other videos where, oh, you threw, like, a brick at a glass
- 51:22of, like, a Volkswagen, and it didn't break, and they threw the brick
- 51:24at a glass of, like, a Cybertruck or something, and it did break.
- 51:28So, like, what's the story here?
- 51:30Illusion.
- 51:30So those were, like, the good things of it, I guess.
- 51:32Like, wow, impressed.
- 51:34Now the horrific things, which was insane, was, like, The second thing they did,
- 51:39I don't even remember what it was, but they drove it off the side of the hill
- 51:43and then it got implanted in the mud.
- 51:45He used a ford to tow it out.
- 51:47Tow it out?
- 51:48Or no, he got stuck, they pulled him out, and then he went and
- 51:50repeated the same thing and ended up implanting the ford or something.
- 51:54Oh, no, no, no.
- 51:55That's not when he did it.
- 51:56It was when he was doing that pothole test and they had those
- 51:59big like six foot diameter.
- 52:01Yeah, they drove over the cylinders.
- 52:03And they drove the Ford up, beached itself basically like
- 52:06it hit in between the wheels and then didn't have traction to go.
- 52:09So they backed the Tesla up to pull it down like off the ramp off these things.
- 52:13And in doing so, they ripped the frame, like, you even can call it a
- 52:18frame, but it just ripped the rear end, and he was beside himself, and
- 52:23rightfully so, because it was like, how can you tow with this thing?
- 52:26It was held together like caca underneath.
- 52:30There was no reinforcement.
- 52:33It was like, it all goes downhill from there on build quality.
- 52:36Yeah, and he said himself, he's like, it's rated for 10, 000 pounds.
- 52:39He's like, this is just normal truck stuff.
- 52:42Truck pulling another truck that got stuck like you're off roading.
- 52:44I don't know how it passed any of these towing tests if it couldn't even
- 52:48pull a truck off a ramp or whatever.
- 52:51It's an aluminum frame and it probably cracked during one of the other tests.
- 52:55And then that test just, that's maybe fair, but still that's what
- 52:59the second video was about because he received a lot of hate mail from
- 53:03Tesla fan people cultists about, Oh, the Ford's frame would crack in half.
- 53:08It would break in half and the truck would destroy itself.
- 53:10Blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 53:12So they did a repeated, like they had an excavator.
- 53:15Lift the rear end of the Ford truck up and they dropped it on
- 53:19concrete bricks, like 50 times.
- 53:21It did eventually bend the frame.
- 53:24They just dropped some real heavy concrete on top of it to
- 53:27straighten the frame back out.
- 53:28It never broke though.
- 53:29It just bent the frame and you could still drive the truck away.
- 53:33But again, this is another issue between steel, which now in this
- 53:37particular test, the Ford has the steel and the Tesla has the aluminum.
- 53:41Well, here's where I'd call bullcrap on these people.
- 53:43They got up in arms about it.
- 53:45He did the exact same stunts with both of them and the Ford
- 53:49was able to tow the Tesla.
- 53:51When it got stuck.
- 53:52So they both came off the back of that flat bed without pulling the ramp down.
- 53:56They both shot off the side of a thing.
- 53:59They, they both did the same thing and the board could still tow.
- 54:02It didn't rip its rear end out.
- 54:03Exactly.
- 54:04And that's what the second video kind of was about.
- 54:07This is a very important lesson.
- 54:09Both trucks use a mixture of both types of materials in different ways.
- 54:15And I feel like the Ford.
- 54:17Used the appropriate materials in the appropriate places, right?
- 54:22Much rather have a hole in my tailgate than my 10, 000 pound load going down the
- 54:27road next to me because the hitch came.
- 54:29Well, it wouldn't be going down the road next to you because the battery charging
- 54:33system was a complete farce as we saw.
- 54:35Also, how much time did he spend at the charger?
- 54:38Oh my goodness.
- 54:39And then how many times did it brick itself that he had issues and he's
- 54:42on the phone with Tesla support?
- 54:44Well, I'm sure a lot of that was due to whatever sensors and
- 54:47whatnot going absolutely bonkers by the abuse that it was taking.
- 54:50It had no idea.
- 54:51I probably thought it was like upside down and you know, God knows where.
- 54:54So the other highlights just go back to the build quality.
- 54:58We've already heard about the tonneau cover.
- 55:00Oh my gosh.
- 55:01The duct tape.
- 55:02Oh my God.
- 55:03Yeah.
- 55:03The washers, the duct tape.
- 55:04The fact that he could just pull trim pieces off because they
- 55:07were like hot glued on basically.
- 55:10Yeah.
- 55:10It was just glue holding all these trim pieces on.
- 55:13It was so hilarious when he's rips like the fender off.
- 55:16He's like, let me see if I can rip the fender of this Ford off.
- 55:19Oh, wait, I can't.
- 55:21It's one piece.
- 55:25And then when he slammed the doors.
- 55:27And the interior came off.
- 55:29That was wild.
- 55:29The interior panels came apart.
- 55:31That was wild.
- 55:31That is not a test I would do to any car.
- 55:34That's also like, really aggressive because nobody's
- 55:37gonna slam their door that hard.
- 55:39I don't know, I've been pretty mad.
- 55:42I've broken many a window regulator in a Mark IV Volkswagen from my anger.
- 55:47So at the end of the day, again, we're talking about the hate, there's a second
- 55:51video now, all this kind of stuff.
- 55:52So we fast forward to the end.
- 55:53We talked about at the beginning with this driveshaft and the, you know, the Ford
- 55:57fails right away, but the fix was what?
- 55:59700 bucks or something with labor?
- 56:02900.
- 56:03Yeah.
- 56:03To change the driveshaft.
- 56:05But at the end of all that abuse, a Ford drove away and the Cybertruck
- 56:09was brought in on a trailer, bricked.
- 56:12And I'd love to see what happened behind closed doors when they brought that
- 56:15Cybertruck into the Tesla facility because At some point they did talk about The
- 56:20current repair bill for the cyber truck.
- 56:23And I think it was like 15, 000 or something like that.
- 56:26That seems low.
- 56:27No way.
- 56:28But if they also weren't done with it yet.
- 56:30Although glue doesn't cost that much, maybe duct tape and glue.
- 56:34You get a lot of duct tape.
- 56:36I just want to bring up one more thing.
- 56:38Gas pedal test.
- 56:40There was no rivets that was going to fix that problem.
- 56:44That was also ludicrous and wildly aggressive.
- 56:48That's what they mean, ludicrous mode.
- 56:50It's like meaningless test.
- 56:52It's not a meaningless test though because the Ford could take the abuse.
- 56:56That's what the point is.
- 56:57But you don't need, it doesn't need to take that abuse.
- 57:01On the one hand, it's not that Ford did anything special because
- 57:04pedal technology is how old?
- 57:10When your pedal assembly is made by Logitech, and that's part of the criticism
- 57:14and the problem with Tesla to begin with, is they're trying to reinvent
- 57:17the wheel when if it ain't broke.
- 57:19You don't need to fix it just for the sake of fixing it.
- 57:22Things have been a certain way for a certain, for a really long time
- 57:26because they just, it just works.
- 57:27Well, they've been proven to work in that way.
- 57:30And that's why I say Tesla is a software company, not a car company,
- 57:34even though they're making cars.
- 57:35I get that.
- 57:36You don't have to explain it to me.
- 57:37But the point is that thinking that reinventing of a new way of
- 57:42doing something is very critical.
- 57:43Software minded.
- 57:45Instead of hitting ctrl p to print you hit ctrl lock screen upside down
- 57:50triangle and then bounce on your nose three times and then it prints.
- 57:54Well what was wrong with ctrl p?
- 57:55The pedal design in the ford is very robust.
- 57:59I would be curious if you did that same test in something say a mini.
- 58:04It has the pedal mounted to the floor.
- 58:06Would it hold up or would it do the same thing that Tesla did?
- 58:09I guarantee it'll hold up.
- 58:10Probably, because it wouldn't be made out of cheap plastic.
- 58:13Your mom has a Mini.
- 58:14You should go test this theory.
- 58:15Yeah, let's go break mom's uh, Mini.
- 58:17Make your own YouTube video and go test this.
- 58:19Sam's got a Mini.
- 58:20Yeah, go down the road to Sam's house.
- 58:22Instead of watching the second Cybertruck Whistle and Diesel video, what I watched
- 58:27instead was Tanya's recommendation of Top Gear's James May reviewing and driving
- 58:33the Cybertruck for the first time.
- 58:34Oh, do you mean his, uh, what was it, whiskey?
- 58:36Or what was he selling?
- 58:37James Gin.
- 58:38Yeah, James Gin.
- 58:39His gin commercial?
- 58:41Self promotion, yeah.
- 58:42He had nothing but positive things.
- 58:45To say about the Cybertruck and this and that it was very top gear esque.
- 58:49Well, I was surprised how like positive it was.
- 58:51Yeah.
- 58:52Well, he's a bit of a, a techie kind of person.
- 58:55Well, he also owns a Tesla now.
- 58:57So for him, so he's, it was a bit biased.
- 58:59It was, but it wasn't biased when he started talking about the panel
- 59:03gaps and the panel alignment.
- 59:06And the finish, it was just like, wow, the straight edge thing, right Tanya?
- 59:12Yeah, the ruler measuring.
- 59:14But then he tried to say that they did that on purpose because of the glare
- 59:17and the angles and all that stuff.
- 59:19So he tried to play it off as that it was done on purpose.
- 59:21No, and then the hilarious part when he put the bottle on it the one time
- 59:24and then he put it on the same spot and then it would move and then it
- 59:27was like, what a joke, what a mess.
- 59:29I didn't give too much credit to that.
- 59:30No, because he didn't stress test it in any way.
- 59:33You know, that was a press car.
- 59:34He's driving around.
- 59:35He's just giving his opinion.
- 59:36Rah, rah, rah, Tesla.
- 59:37Okay, fine.
- 59:38Sure.
- 59:39So it was, it was interesting to see like the other end of the pendulum swing.
- 59:42I didn't expect James to be so kind because he can be very direct.
- 59:47I would have expected a lot more if it was Jeremy Clarkson, he probably
- 59:50would have ripped it to shreds, not literally like whistling diesel did.
- 59:53But, you know, he would have had not so kind things to say about it.
- 59:56Then again, that's why he stopped doing the Grand Tour, right?
- 59:59He's not interested in electrofecals.
- 1:00:00He doesn't want to talk about them.
- 1:00:01They're blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:00:02The excuses that he gave for leaving.
- 1:00:04That's that.
- 1:00:05I just thought it was good to go back because we said we were going to watch it.
- 1:00:08I wanted to get your guys opinion.
- 1:00:09This is the first time I've sat through a Whistle and Diesel video in its entirety.
- 1:00:14And I was hooked because I think what he did, it was truth.
- 1:00:18So we're still talking about Tesla.
- 1:00:20Which would be haunting, I guess.
- 1:00:22You had one of these pull up behind you with the red and blue flashing, right?
- 1:00:26We're in California again.
- 1:00:28So there's police department there that unveiled a cyber truck cruiser.
- 1:00:33I don't think they're actually going to use it.
- 1:00:35It's more, I think maybe just promotional type police vehicle, not
- 1:00:39one that's actually going to be used to actually go out and fight crime.
- 1:00:43So to speak like the Wraith.
- 1:00:46Nonetheless, California's taxpayer dollars went to getting this
- 1:00:50Cybertruck at their local precinct.
- 1:00:52Outfitted as a police interceptor.
- 1:00:55It's only being used for community outreach.
- 1:00:57Yeah, because they're afraid if they got to do a pit maneuver in
- 1:00:59this thing, it's going to fall apart and crumple like a soda can.
- 1:01:02Right?
- 1:01:03The risk to the officer would be quite high if they were involved in a high
- 1:01:08speed chase that ended in a crash.
- 1:01:10We've all seen those Florida Man videos and chases.
- 1:01:13I don't think you could do that with a Cybertruck.
- 1:01:15You could do it with an Ultima.
- 1:01:16Yeah, damn right.
- 1:01:18As we saw in the Whistling Diesel video, it'll get itself in like, planted in mud.
- 1:01:24Just don't go off road with it.
- 1:01:27What was the other thing he had to like, activate his subscription
- 1:01:29for the four wheel differential?
- 1:01:32For the Diff Lock, yeah.
- 1:01:34Oh yeah, that was insane.
- 1:01:36It's insane.
- 1:01:37Ugh.
- 1:01:38At least you know when you're being shot at, after a drug bust goes
- 1:01:41bad, you're going to be protected.
- 1:01:43That is true.
- 1:01:44That is true.
- 1:01:44They could use it as a riot vehicle is what we learned.
- 1:01:47So.
- 1:01:48A riot with some very poor attempts to destroy it.
- 1:01:53Well that rounds out probably our episode.
- 1:01:55Longest showcase, but I don't think we're done with haunting topics as we
- 1:01:59go along here But we are gonna switch to our regularly scheduled ranting and
- 1:02:02raving and bring you some new stuff.
- 1:02:04Porsche, Audi, and Volkswagen Redefining literally reinventing the engine.
- 1:02:10I rank this six stroke right up there with the Wankel also known
- 1:02:14as the rotary All the RX 7 people know what I'm talking about.
- 1:02:17I watched this video.
- 1:02:19It was In lightning and all I came away from it after half an hour was intake
- 1:02:24compression combustion compression combustion exhaust That's how it works.
- 1:02:29So it's got this weirdly spirograph system where it does a double compression
- 1:02:34combustion stroke, supposedly, you know, the benefits of a two stroke with
- 1:02:39the benefits of a four stroke, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:02:42And the punchline is why is Porsche reinventing the wheel?
- 1:02:45Or the engine in this case, when Europe is pushing to have all EVs
- 1:02:50by like 2035 or whatever it is.
- 1:02:52So I think they're betting the farm on this new engine, has some really
- 1:02:56interesting techniques in it that would take advantage of the new
- 1:02:59synthetic fuels that they're creating.
- 1:03:02But.
- 1:03:03If you are not into math and science, I don't recommend watching this video, but
- 1:03:09I found it fascinating because I'm a nerd.
- 1:03:11So that's that.
- 1:03:12Why is he spending five minutes telling us how to say the word?
- 1:03:14Oh yeah.
- 1:03:15I was so turned off by that.
- 1:03:19I was like, who cares?
- 1:03:20But I do like how he ended it.
- 1:03:21He goes this way.
- 1:03:22I put to bed all of your comments about how I pronounce it and we can move on
- 1:03:26with life, but that was pretty good.
- 1:03:27All right.
- 1:03:28So Asian domestic news, Honda is putting out their GR 86
- 1:03:33competitor, also known as Quaalude.
- 1:03:35I mean the prelude, but isn't it going to be electric?
- 1:03:38Isn't it going to be front wheel drive?
- 1:03:39Yeah, it's hybrid front wheel drive.
- 1:03:41Isn't it going to be the size of an accord?
- 1:03:43Basically it's going to be the replacement for the two door Accord they used to make.
- 1:03:46That's what it looks like to me.
- 1:03:47I think you hit the nail right on the head.
- 1:03:49It's just an Integra with the Honda badge instead.
- 1:03:54Blasphemer!
- 1:03:54But it's two door.
- 1:03:56It's a two door Integra.
- 1:03:57Integra.
- 1:03:58It's ugly.
- 1:03:59Which they used to make.
- 1:04:00That weird grill.
- 1:04:01What is that?
- 1:04:02That's like the Prius thing.
- 1:04:03No, when you said it's a CR Z.
- 1:04:06That's the front end of a CR Z.
- 1:04:09That little weird nub nose.
- 1:04:11No, but then it's got like a dual lip.
- 1:04:13It's got fish lips like the new Ferraris, right?
- 1:04:16They have that kind of thing going on there.
- 1:04:17That's what they're doing.
- 1:04:18But it looks good on a Ferrari.
- 1:04:19It doesn't look good on this.
- 1:04:20This is ugly.
- 1:04:21Oh, it doesn't.
- 1:04:22Whatever.
- 1:04:22I mean, Honda fans are going to go nuts.
- 1:04:24The Prelude is coming back.
- 1:04:25I mean, Brian Schott will buy one right away, right?
- 1:04:27But I don't get it.
- 1:04:28If we do see one going down the road, we're going to be like, Oh, that's nice.
- 1:04:31You're not going to know what it was.
- 1:04:32No, you're not.
- 1:04:33And then the thing is you're never going to see one because who's buying
- 1:04:36two door sports coupes anymore.
- 1:04:37Nobody.
- 1:04:38So, I don't understand why Honda's even bothering with this.
- 1:04:41If you really want it to be something awesome, it shouldn't be an EV.
- 1:04:44It should have a manual.
- 1:04:45It should have the same power plant as the Honda Type R Civic.
- 1:04:49It should just be that with two doors.
- 1:04:50It should be a two door Civic, but instead it's whatever this thing is.
- 1:04:54Moving on.
- 1:04:55Toyota.
- 1:04:55We haven't talked enough about Toyota, right Tanya?
- 1:04:57Nope.
- 1:04:57So they have revealed that they will be joining TC America Series.
- 1:05:03SRO baby!
- 1:05:04With their 2025 GR Corolla.
- 1:05:07They're gonna kick butt with this thing.
- 1:05:09It's gonna be awesome.
- 1:05:10Should be interesting.
- 1:05:11This car is the hotness.
- 1:05:13I kind of wonder what the balance of performance is gonna be like for this.
- 1:05:16As we know, Brad, BOP is all over SRO.
- 1:05:19This is gonna be competing with the HPD civics.
- 1:05:22This is gonna be competing with the Hyundais, the smaller BMWs, all that
- 1:05:25kind of stuff in GT America series, the GR three cylinder turbo 300 horsepower.
- 1:05:30I think they're gonna have to detune that 'cause a lot of those cars are running
- 1:05:34under 300 horsepower in that class.
- 1:05:36Or they would add weight.
- 1:05:37They'd add weight.
- 1:05:38Yeah, exactly.
- 1:05:39It's exciting for next year to see the hatchbacks out there
- 1:05:42kicking butt in touring car.
- 1:05:43So they haven't said what the horsepower will be on the 2025s.
- 1:05:47They haven't unveiled that yet.
- 1:05:48The only thing they've said is they'll make 290 foot pounds of torque.
- 1:05:51Out of a three cylinder.
- 1:05:52Damn.
- 1:05:53I'd take one of these left over after a couple years of
- 1:05:56being beat on the racetrack.
- 1:05:57I'm good with it.
- 1:05:58And they're only 150, 000 when they're used.
- 1:06:01Yeah, and they haven't announced the pricing of it either.
- 1:06:04So we'll see what the production version comes out to be.
- 1:06:08We know what the Maritzo version or whatever is like 50 grand.
- 1:06:13Race cars open your wallet.
- 1:06:14I mean, there is just That's not even this level because this is
- 1:06:17already, you know, a step above that.
- 1:06:19No, what you do is you find a sponsor.
- 1:06:21Well, this is not street legal.
- 1:06:22So 100 percent right.
- 1:06:25Still kind of in the camp of Asian domestic news.
- 1:06:28Remember when we used to do that wheel segment for a while there, you know, it
- 1:06:32kind of popped its head up the other day because I was again in the city walking
- 1:06:35around, I get to see a bunch of different cars that you just wouldn't normally
- 1:06:38see from the headquarters office, right?
- 1:06:40I had made a statement on a previous drive thru that all Hyundais and
- 1:06:44Kias, they have the ugliest wheels on the road, like full stop, right?
- 1:06:47They're just heinous looking.
- 1:06:48But I stumbled across.
- 1:06:50What I didn't realize was basically the end of the line of the previous
- 1:06:55generation Hyundai Santa Fe.
- 1:06:57And so it's a Hyundai Santa Fe Sport.
- 1:06:59I looked at these wheels and I said, man, these are absolutely inspired.
- 1:07:03These are GTI quality wheels.
- 1:07:06I think they'd look really good on something else because that's a, you
- 1:07:08know, a CUV, SUV or whatever have you.
- 1:07:11But then I realized because that was the end of the Santa Fe line, I had to kind
- 1:07:15of take back my statement and say, Okay.
- 1:07:17They do have a good looking wheel, they don't have the ugliest wheels, but now
- 1:07:21they have one of the ugliest SUVs on the road because the new Santa Fe is heinous.
- 1:07:26Have you guys seen this thing?
- 1:07:27I think they have like a basketball personality doing like this commercial
- 1:07:30like, uh, he's got his brown Hyundai Santa Fe running around.
- 1:07:33It's very square, very digital looking, like very 80s.
- 1:07:36But the wheels are nice.
- 1:07:38Yeah.
- 1:07:38The new Santa Fe reminds me a lot of the old Azuzu Axiom.
- 1:07:44Ooh.
- 1:07:45If you remember what those look like.
- 1:07:47I do.
- 1:07:47Those were not nice either.
- 1:07:49No, it's they look identical.
- 1:07:51You would see that meme of Jenna Fisher from the office sitting in the
- 1:07:56boardroom saying it's the same vehicle.
- 1:07:58It's the same picture.
- 1:07:59It did send me down a little bit of a weird rabbit hole, kind of looking
- 1:08:02at Hyundais and trying to understand what car this was and the wheel
- 1:08:06package and all this kind of thing.
- 1:08:07Although I saw the badging on the back of the car, it didn't really dawn on me until
- 1:08:10I was yet again inside the configurator.
- 1:08:13As you guys remember, that was a fun experiment too.
- 1:08:16The Santa Fe had a 1.
- 1:08:176 turbo for a while, then it had a two liter turbo.
- 1:08:20Now it's got a two and a half liter turbo and that exists
- 1:08:23on the new ugly one as well.
- 1:08:25I was like, wow, when did Hyundai step up their four cylinder?
- 1:08:28And when is that motor going to get dropped into more stuff?
- 1:08:31It's making 277 pound feet of torquems.
- 1:08:36And I know it didn't make our 50, 000 millennial grade challenge, but it doesn't
- 1:08:40come with all wheel drive standard.
- 1:08:42It only comes with fun wheel drive for all those 311 torquems.
- 1:08:46So that's not fun.
- 1:08:47If you do add all wheel drive to a Santa Fe.
- 1:08:50Going back to that list, it comes in around 40k.
- 1:08:53So it's another contender on our list of under 50k.
- 1:08:57What would you buy with almost 300 horsepower?
- 1:09:00I was like, that's not bad.
- 1:09:01So good job Hyundai for stepping up your four cylinder game.
- 1:09:03Now put that in a Veloster.
- 1:09:07Now for some random new EVs and concepts.
- 1:09:09So in the spirit of Halloween, apparently Rivian's feeling a little bit fun and
- 1:09:15they have a software update that you can do for all the consoles inside that give
- 1:09:19you an option for three different themes.
- 1:09:22One being Kit's theme from Knight Rider.
- 1:09:25So cool.
- 1:09:26Another being the Back to the Future DeLorean interior theme.
- 1:09:31Still cool.
- 1:09:32And the third is the most Halloween y one, I guess.
- 1:09:35It's this kind of bizarre, spooky ish color haze thing that it does.
- 1:09:41And then this silhouette of like a Yeti going across your screens or whatever.
- 1:09:44That one was okay.
- 1:09:46But the Back to the Future one with the time all in the center console,
- 1:09:50like when you set the date and all that, like it was really cool.
- 1:09:53And even like, you know, the old school Knight Rider, very Audi digital dash.
- 1:09:58Yeah, it was.
- 1:09:59Oh my god.
- 1:10:01It was bringing memories back.
- 1:10:02I love it though.
- 1:10:03I think this is cool.
- 1:10:04This is the kind of stuff if you're going to have screens in the car, give me
- 1:10:08these kinds of options and then put Mr.
- 1:10:10Feeney's voice in there.
- 1:10:11Right?
- 1:10:12Hello, Michael.
- 1:10:13That's pretty cool.
- 1:10:15Not that garbage we got from Volkswagen where it's like, make your
- 1:10:182024 GTI feel like a 1963 beetle.
- 1:10:21Like why?
- 1:10:22I don't care.
- 1:10:22That's lame.
- 1:10:23This is cool.
- 1:10:24This is what our generation wants.
- 1:10:26Now I would like the L cars Version dashboard from Star Trek.
- 1:10:31That'd be cool with the sounds too.
- 1:10:32When you hit the beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, switch it to Cardassian.
- 1:10:36Really cool.
- 1:10:36Deep space nine action there.
- 1:10:37I like Rivians.
- 1:10:38Yeah, they're pretty neat.
- 1:10:39I see a lot of them down here.
- 1:10:41You see a lot of them.
- 1:10:41If you see Amazon delivery trucks.
- 1:10:43Well, speaking of seeing things, anybody been watching Emily in Paris?
- 1:10:48I know it's a stretch, not the latest season.
- 1:10:50I haven't seen the latest season yet.
- 1:10:52Okay.
- 1:10:52Well, I took a screenshot for you guys and then we'll have it up on our website.
- 1:10:56I'm not giving any spoilers away.
- 1:10:57It's just sort of like a thing that they did on one of the episodes.
- 1:11:01There's this photo shoot.
- 1:11:02Everything Mazar, Who some of you might remember from Entourage.
- 1:11:08She was also Medusa in Chaos, if you watched that, and a bunch of other stuff.
- 1:11:12So she has a very 1930s look to her, right?
- 1:11:16Especially when she puts her hair up and they dress her up
- 1:11:18and all those kinds of things.
- 1:11:19So they did this very cool Inception commercial inside of the show.
- 1:11:24And because it's Paris, it was Renault, and it was shot in black and white.
- 1:11:27You know, you always see those, like, Dior commercials are like this, where they're
- 1:11:31in black and white, and then something suddenly pops in color, and there you go.
- 1:11:35So she comes out and there's all this paparazzi and da, da, da, da, boom.
- 1:11:38The only shot of color is a bright yellow, like my shirt, brand new Renault
- 1:11:45R5 EV, I stopped, soaked it all in.
- 1:11:48I took a screenshot of it.
- 1:11:49As you guys can see, this is not just fire.
- 1:11:52This is hot fire.
- 1:11:53This thing is so cool.
- 1:11:55Please Renault, make this car.
- 1:11:58Make this car and only sell it in your country.
- 1:12:01Stop, why did, why did you have to do that to me?
- 1:12:03That way Eric can buy one in 25 years.
- 1:12:05That's the reality that we live in.
- 1:12:08I urge you guys, if you watch Emily in Paris and you get to that episode,
- 1:12:12it's towards the end of the season.
- 1:12:13Again, I don't want to give any spoilers away.
- 1:12:15Just rewind it, watch it again.
- 1:12:17I did that several times.
- 1:12:19It's really cool.
- 1:12:20This thing is really, really neat.
- 1:12:21And she gets in it and she drives away.
- 1:12:23So you get to see it from all the different angles and I mean,
- 1:12:26obviously it's whisper quiet, but still just this modern retro R5 with
- 1:12:32big wide haunches and everything.
- 1:12:34It just looks really, really epic.
- 1:12:36Talking about more retro designs from Renault, last month we talked about
- 1:12:40their idea of calling back the R17.
- 1:12:43Which, there's a couple Datsuns that look like that, and the Saab, Saab
- 1:12:47Sonnet, and a bunch of other cars that have a similar shape to the R17.
- 1:12:51Well, as much as there was a big hub a loo about it on the internet, Renault
- 1:12:55officially came out with a statement saying, for those who remember the
- 1:12:59R17, we've given you everything that you love, and for those who could
- 1:13:03care less, it's just a nice car.
- 1:13:05And what they mean by that statement, all kind of wrapped up in that sentiment, is
- 1:13:08that they're not going to make the R17.
- 1:13:11Again, the big question is, if that's your attitude with your retro
- 1:13:15cars, are you going to make the R5?
- 1:13:17No.
- 1:13:17Yeah, probably not.
- 1:13:18Even says that they're going to move away from retro designs.
- 1:13:22It's killing me.
- 1:13:22And by the way, the Alpine version of that R5 is freaking awesome too.
- 1:13:26And there's a couple of new Alpines coming out the three 90.
- 1:13:29Now we talked about the two 80 before that.
- 1:13:31And obviously the a one 10 GTs and awesome cars, stuff like that.
- 1:13:35There's a lot of motion and commotion going on at Renault.
- 1:13:37And the funny part is Renault parent company of Nissan.
- 1:13:41One of these things is not like the other.
- 1:13:44So Brad, lost and found.
- 1:13:45We got something on the pile here.
- 1:13:47This car speaks to me.
- 1:13:48What do we got?
- 1:13:49First CNC Motorsport Sierra RS500 was delivered.
- 1:13:53Just look at that.
- 1:13:54That is 80s at its finest right there.
- 1:13:57So imagine, you know, there's been a bunch of these, what do you want to call them?
- 1:14:00Tribute cars or halo cars, whatever it is, you know, like the whole singer effect.
- 1:14:05Take an old car, do everything you could possibly ever imagine you could
- 1:14:09do with it, with modern technology.
- 1:14:11We've seen this with Porsches.
- 1:14:12We've seen this with launches.
- 1:14:14We've seen this with other brands.
- 1:14:15And now there's a company CNC Motorsport getting into the Sierra RS500S Cosworth.
- 1:14:22And this thing's awesome.
- 1:14:24Right down to the gold basket weave BBS wheels.
- 1:14:27I mean, what is there not to like?
- 1:14:29I love the fact that it's got 575 horsepower from a two liter.
- 1:14:33Yes.
- 1:14:34Yes.
- 1:14:34Excellent.
- 1:14:35I didn't see a price, but I can only guess that it's six figures.
- 1:14:39I found a price.
- 1:14:40Uh oh.
- 1:14:41Prices for these cars start at 185 British pounds.
- 1:14:46Ah!
- 1:14:46I knew it.
- 1:14:48It was a hundred thousand plus dollars.
- 1:14:50Yikes.
- 1:14:51Tanya, would you buy one of these?
- 1:14:52Would you drive one of these?
- 1:14:53I mean, would I buy one?
- 1:14:56You don't buy anything.
- 1:14:57So what would you drive one?
- 1:14:58I mean, I would buy something else over this, but I would drive
- 1:15:01one if I had the opportunity.
- 1:15:03So cool.
- 1:15:04I'm not like in love with the aesthetics of it.
- 1:15:07Seeing that article kind of drove me down a rabbit hole on YouTube.
- 1:15:11And I was watching a bunch of videos about Delta integrales and I was doing
- 1:15:15some research for a rally project anyway, then group a and all that stuff.
- 1:15:19And so many different versions of the Delta HF Chris Harris bought an
- 1:15:23eight valve and Ben Collins bought a 16 valve turbo, and then he bought a
- 1:15:27Evo one and all this kind of thing.
- 1:15:29And then you learning the differences between all the variants
- 1:15:32of the HF and stuff like that.
- 1:15:33I'm like, I would love to import one of those.
- 1:15:37If we didn't talk about them enough, we would be remiss.
- 1:15:39Are we going back to Thesla?
- 1:15:44We got one more article.
- 1:15:46Oh my gosh.
- 1:15:47And it's a bit the hokey pokey.
- 1:15:49I don't even care or know what's real.
- 1:15:53I don't have a Cybertruck.
- 1:15:54I'm not trying to insure it with Geico.
- 1:15:56I'm never gonna have a Cybertruck.
- 1:15:59I'm never gonna try to insure it with Geico.
- 1:16:01So I honestly don't care if Geico wants to insure them or not.
- 1:16:06And that's the problem we've been seeing a lot lately.
- 1:16:09And it's not just this article.
- 1:16:10It's other ones where let's say Jalopnik says one thing and then
- 1:16:13motor one says the exact opposite.
- 1:16:15It's like on the same day and you're like, wait, what?
- 1:16:18And in this case, how much do you trust things you read on Reddit?
- 1:16:22That article starts Geico drops coverage for the cyber trucks.
- 1:16:24And then on the other side, the verge is saying, well, maybe not.
- 1:16:28Geico is not going to drop your cyber truck.
- 1:16:30We're going to continue to cover it.
- 1:16:32I guess buyer beware, do your homework first, figure out how much it's going
- 1:16:35to cost to insure one of these things.
- 1:16:37And if they're going to cover it, I think there's still a lot of changes yet
- 1:16:41to come in the insurance world when it comes to EVs, because I think there was
- 1:16:45a lot of unexpected consequences with these cars, how long it takes to fix
- 1:16:49them, how expensive they are to fix them.
- 1:16:51This isn't new.
- 1:16:52A few years ago, didn't Tesla come up with their own insurance Policy for
- 1:16:57their cars because other insurance companies were having a hard time pricing
- 1:17:02insurance policies for other Tesla models.
- 1:17:04So this isn't something that's new Geico is probably just the first to outright
- 1:17:08deny coverage, then just go to Tesla.
- 1:17:11I mean, if Tesla has an insurance company, that's going to insure it, then just
- 1:17:15do everything in the Tesla ecosystem.
- 1:17:18You buy the Tesla vehicle, you get the Tesla loan with the Tesla interest rate.
- 1:17:22You do the Tesla insurance.
- 1:17:24That's it.
- 1:17:24And you do the Tesla electricity.
- 1:17:26That's the Apple model.
- 1:17:27It's a software company model.
- 1:17:28And it keeps the money flowing internal to Tesla.
- 1:17:32Oh, shocking.
- 1:17:33How that works.
- 1:17:35This reminds me of the old coal towns where they paid you in chips.
- 1:17:40And then you use those chips at the coal company owned store and you
- 1:17:44lived in coal company owned housing.
- 1:17:46Robber barons.
- 1:17:47It's not what they were called.
- 1:17:49So anything else on the.
- 1:17:50Tesla docket there, Tonya?
- 1:17:52Well, for those who've been tracking, and they're super interested, they
- 1:17:56recently unveiled, earlier this month, the RoboTaxi and RoboVan.
- 1:18:02Autonomous.
- 1:18:03Johnny Cab.
- 1:18:05Speaking of which, they unveiled that, and now are being sued
- 1:18:11by The Blade Runner movie.
- 1:18:14Oh.
- 1:18:15Brilliant.
- 1:18:16Did he call it Johnny Cab on stage?
- 1:18:18Is that why?
- 1:18:19No, the production company is suing them, alleging that they created a lot of the
- 1:18:26stills and photos, basically generative AI taken from Blade Runner, essentially.
- 1:18:32So if you think it looks like something from Blade Runner, I
- 1:18:35think that's pretty intentional.
- 1:18:39Well, that's unfortunate.
- 1:18:40Did you guys see this about how Fisker abandoned their headquarters
- 1:18:44and left it in complete disarray, allegedly with hazardous waste and
- 1:18:49clay models and a bunch of other stuff just laying strewn about?
- 1:18:52Is that like when people get evicted out of their house and they're
- 1:18:55like, fuck you, I'm gonna take a sledgehammer to all my walls and I'm
- 1:18:58gonna shit in the middle of the floor.
- 1:19:00Bye!
- 1:19:01Was all this stuff put on the front lawn?
- 1:19:04I just want to know where all these Fisker Ocean people are going
- 1:19:10to get their EVs taken care of.
- 1:19:13They're going to take them to the scrapyard.
- 1:19:15It's a shame.
- 1:19:16I mean, we've seen it before with Fisker where it's like, well, this and
- 1:19:20that and the other thing, and are they going to make it in the solar roof?
- 1:19:22And didn't they collapse once and then came back and all this kind of thing?
- 1:19:26They've had a bit of a storied past, but it's like, Even when they came
- 1:19:31out with the Ocean, which is not a bad looking vehicle, it's just like,
- 1:19:34you kind of look at it and go, they're not going to be here in five years.
- 1:19:37There's just no way, they just don't have the infrastructure.
- 1:19:40I was sort of hoping that they would have gotten swallowed up by somebody else.
- 1:19:44They still have a website.
- 1:19:46What does that cost in them?
- 1:19:4720 bucks?
- 1:19:47You can save up to 24, 000 on a My 2023 Fisker Ocean.
- 1:19:52Go get your ocean right now.
- 1:19:53It's a 24, 000 discount.
- 1:19:56All sales final.
- 1:19:57Well, a little bit of racing.
- 1:19:59We know where to put this, right?
- 1:20:00Is this lowered expectations?
- 1:20:02Possibly.
- 1:20:03We all know rich people gonna do what rich people do.
- 1:20:07And Keanu, he knows Kung Fu, but did you know he knew how to drive?
- 1:20:11I feel like this is not news race car.
- 1:20:14Drivers spin out in the middle of a race all the time.
- 1:20:18He didn't cause a collision.
- 1:20:19He didn't crash.
- 1:20:21He just spun out and reentered the race surface and finished the race.
- 1:20:26I don't understand why this is.
- 1:20:27He's also 60 years old.
- 1:20:29The guy, a fucking break.
- 1:20:30But he's not the first Hollywood star to turn towards racing.
- 1:20:35Now we've got Frankie Munez making his official announcement that he's a NASCAR.
- 1:20:39Now we have these Hollywood stars that I guess they're bored.
- 1:20:42They've done everything that they can do with the umpteen trillion
- 1:20:45dollars that they've made.
- 1:20:46And they're going to go racing.
- 1:20:47I mean, not uncommon.
- 1:20:48You've got the Paul Newman's of the world and the Steve McQueen's.
- 1:20:52The Tom Cruise's.
- 1:20:53McDreamy.
- 1:20:54A bunch of people that were from Hollywood have gone racing in the past.
- 1:20:58Well, Frankie Munez isn't.
- 1:20:59necessarily a good example because he's been racing for like 20 years actually
- 1:21:04and he's only like 38 so he's got into the racing scene pretty young he's
- 1:21:10just he's finally I guess going pro officially now yeah He's been involved
- 1:21:17in motorsports for a long time, but I guess finally he's officially there.
- 1:21:20Keanu, I don't know, isn't he known for doing like motorcycle stuff?
- 1:21:23Correct.
- 1:21:24Yeah.
- 1:21:24It's not a stretch I guess to get into a car.
- 1:21:27Good for him.
- 1:21:27Maybe he is bored.
- 1:21:28I think it's more news just because it's Keanu.
- 1:21:31It says professional auto racing debut.
- 1:21:33What makes this a professional?
- 1:21:36Auto racing debut.
- 1:21:37He's an SRO.
- 1:21:38He's in the Toyota GR cup.
- 1:21:40Yeah.
- 1:21:40If I had enough money, I could go do SRO too.
- 1:21:43Would that make me a professional race car driver?
- 1:21:44No.
- 1:21:45He's a bronze level driver like anybody else, right?
- 1:21:47Especially because of his age and his experience.
- 1:21:50I feel like this is just, it's not news.
- 1:21:52It's clickbait.
- 1:21:52It's kind of not worth beating.
- 1:21:54Well, he's done a couple races since this too.
- 1:21:57So, I mean, obviously he's following the SRO schedule.
- 1:21:59So good for him.
- 1:22:01He knows Kung Fu and now he knows how to race.
- 1:22:03So good job, Keanu.
- 1:22:05Tom Cruise was the last samurai.
- 1:22:06Right.
- 1:22:07Since we're talking about rich people things, sponsored by Garage
- 1:22:10Style Magazine, because after all, what doesn't belong in your garage?
- 1:22:13How about some limited edition prints that are now up for grabs?
- 1:22:17Signed by the man himself, Juan Fangio.
- 1:22:21How many?
- 1:22:21Thousands of dollars of these costs.
- 1:22:23So what it says here, they're in the hands of the guy that did these original
- 1:22:27prints and got them signed or whatever.
- 1:22:28I don't know how many he has.
- 1:22:30And this is over on Exotic Car Marketplace.
- 1:22:32It was valued $500 10 years ago.
- 1:22:34So, and not $500 today.
- 1:22:37So now they're two grand, three grand each.
- 1:22:38Okay, let's say it's a thousand.
- 1:22:40That's still Fangio.
- 1:22:42Put his Sharpie.
- 1:22:43On it.
- 1:22:44That's history right there.
- 1:22:45So to get a signed print, now granted it's going to cost you
- 1:22:48500 to ship it from Australia.
- 1:22:50500 bucks for a piece of artwork signed by Fangio?
- 1:22:53That's not bad.
- 1:22:54Add that to your Christmas list.
- 1:22:56If you're interested in getting one of these, the contact information
- 1:22:59to reach Kevin Waite in Australia is at Exotic Car Marketplace.
- 1:23:03Just search for limited edition prints signed by Fangio.
- 1:23:07So other rich people thangs, and this is a spoiler alert for an upcoming episode.
- 1:23:11We sat down with David Beattie from Slot Mods Raceways, and he talks about
- 1:23:15his whole story about building custom slot car tracks and all the other things
- 1:23:19that he is into over at Slot Mods.
- 1:23:21And he's working with William Ross from the Exotic Car Marketplace
- 1:23:24to auction off a Hot Wheels track.
- 1:23:26You can get in on that for the low, low price of 25.
- 1:23:301, 000.
- 1:23:31It's actually kind of cool.
- 1:23:32There's all sorts of pictures of it on the exotic car marketplace website You
- 1:23:35can check out and I know that William and David are working on a project for next
- 1:23:40year and there will be a track being built to be auctioned off for Charity and you'll
- 1:23:45be able to read more about that and more of its details on exotic car marketplace
- 1:23:49as well But if you haven't seen the work that slot mods has done some of these
- 1:23:53tracks that they've built for Audi that they've built for private collections
- 1:23:57for Zach Brown Brown of McLaren, you know, all these kinds of things that Dave
- 1:24:00goes into on the episode is pretty cool.
- 1:24:02I highly recommend people check out the video painting coconuts on YouTube.
- 1:24:07And you'll see David about 10 years ago or so that video actually won a
- 1:24:11Clio award and it's produced by Audi.
- 1:24:14And it has to do with the Quattro experience, and he built this
- 1:24:16really cool track for the debut of, at the time, the new A7.
- 1:24:21So if you haven't seen that, check out Painting Coconuts on YouTube, and then
- 1:24:25you get more of an idea of what Slot Mods is all about, the quality of their work.
- 1:24:29And, on top of that, William just did a behind the scenes.
- 1:24:31Facility tour of slot mods.
- 1:24:34And you get to see Dave and he shows you the tracks that he's building and
- 1:24:36all this stuff that they're working on.
- 1:24:37There's some really, really cool stuff there.
- 1:24:39And so for me, reignited a passion about slot car racing.
- 1:24:43So if you're looking to have something commissioned to fill up a big empty
- 1:24:47space in your house and you're into racing slot mods is definitely
- 1:24:49something you should check out.
- 1:24:51Speaking of big money, Zuckerberg and his Porsche.
- 1:24:54I take exception to this being called a minivan.
- 1:24:58It's more like a limousine.
- 1:24:59I don't know what makes this a minivan other than it's long because
- 1:25:02I don't think it shares the correct architectural qualities of a minivan.
- 1:25:07Like a minivan doesn't have a sloping rear pillar.
- 1:25:11They're flat.
- 1:25:12Right.
- 1:25:12They're straight up and down.
- 1:25:13I mean to say in the back, they don't slope down like this.
- 1:25:16Like you just stretched an SUV.
- 1:25:19Yeah.
- 1:25:19It's a shooting brake with sliding doors.
- 1:25:21Sliding doors equal minivan.
- 1:25:23Basically that's what they're saying.
- 1:25:24So a Yukon XL that has four rows.
- 1:25:30Yes.
- 1:25:30And if I put sliding doors on it.
- 1:25:32I could call that a minivan and not rolling house.
- 1:25:36Yes, sliding doors equal minivan.
- 1:25:38That's it.
- 1:25:39So I could put sliding doors on a Volkswagen Beetle
- 1:25:42and it would be a minivan.
- 1:25:44But you would have to extend said beetle to accommodate sliding doors because
- 1:25:48your sliding doors cannot be your feet.
- 1:25:50front doors.
- 1:25:51They are rear sliding doors in the place of standard opening rear doors.
- 1:25:55So I can take a mini Cooper.
- 1:25:58How are we even arguing this?
- 1:26:00Because I think this is the dumbest thing.
- 1:26:02Brad, is that a van?
- 1:26:03No, it's a abomination.
- 1:26:05Is a Camaro a hatchback?
- 1:26:06It's a liftback.
- 1:26:07That's a whole nother.
- 1:26:07Yeah.
- 1:26:08Okay.
- 1:26:08I get your point.
- 1:26:09Yes.
- 1:26:10Who gives a shit?
- 1:26:12But hey, she was happy.
- 1:26:13So I guess that's all that counts.
- 1:26:14Apparently it fits a seven foot statue.
- 1:26:17That he commissioned in the likeness of his wife.
- 1:26:19Is that why he needed to transport that statue home?
- 1:26:22So he had to build a longer.
- 1:26:24No, no, I don't think that's it.
- 1:26:25I think those are two independent stories.
- 1:26:27For his army of zucks.
- 1:26:29Yeah, zuck army.
- 1:26:31Rich people things, baby.
- 1:26:32Good for him.
- 1:26:36Well, it's time we go down south.
- 1:26:40About alligators and beer.
- 1:26:56Couldn't really find any stories, but there is apparently a new HBO show out.
- 1:27:01It premiered just a couple days ago, October 18th.
- 1:27:03It's called, It's Florida, Comet Man.
- 1:27:06Oh, God.
- 1:27:09And so, it's different than like the Netflix.
- 1:27:12Florida man, which I enjoyed.
- 1:27:13So I think it's less episodic.
- 1:27:15It's apparently it's going to have like a slew of cameos of
- 1:27:20different well known people now.
- 1:27:23And it's apparently it's part documentary, part dramedy, part whatever.
- 1:27:28So I don't know what this is exactly.
- 1:27:30I haven't checked it out yet, but apparently there's
- 1:27:32episodes available on HBO.
- 1:27:34All right.
- 1:27:35It's time to watch.
- 1:27:36It's Florida, man.
- 1:27:38It's Florida, man.
- 1:27:41Well, it's time we go quickly behind the pit wall.
- 1:27:45So we've talked all about Formula One earlier, but there is a little
- 1:27:49bit of shakeup in the IndyCar world.
- 1:27:51I hear there's a new racetrack coming.
- 1:27:53IndyCars are not going to Koda, but they might be going to
- 1:27:57Arlington, Texas's street course.
- 1:27:59Sure.
- 1:28:00So if you guys watched the video that we've attached in the show notes,
- 1:28:03basically what I tell from this very poorly Xbox 360 graphic video that
- 1:28:09they did is that You're driving around the Dallas Cowboys stadium and at
- 1:28:13the end it says coming March 2026.
- 1:28:16Sure.
- 1:28:17Yeah, so we're still like two years away, year and a half away
- 1:28:19from whatever this racetrack is.
- 1:28:21It looks like every other street course, kind of tight and Long
- 1:28:25straightaways and slow down.
- 1:28:27So the crowd can see the cars and then speed away and slow down and see the cars.
- 1:28:30Does Indy do a lot of street courses?
- 1:28:31They do more than anybody.
- 1:28:33I think really, yeah, there's still all the Memphis and St.
- 1:28:36Petersburg and Detroit and all that stuff.
- 1:28:39They're all street courses.
- 1:28:40AMSA does all of those as well.
- 1:28:41Similar ones.
- 1:28:42Yeah.
- 1:28:43But I, I don't know why anybody would want to do city courses anymore.
- 1:28:46I mean, it makes life miserable for everybody.
- 1:28:50It's hard to get any good seating because there's so many crash barriers and gates
- 1:28:53and you know, all that kind of stuff.
- 1:28:55It's just, I don't know.
- 1:28:56When we went to Memphis a couple of years ago, I was like, that's cool.
- 1:28:59You couldn't get to all sections of the track because of the
- 1:29:01way the roads were blocked off.
- 1:29:03And unless you lived in one of the buildings, which
- 1:29:05you were either trapped in.
- 1:29:07Or you had the best vantage point of the race.
- 1:29:10It was kind of weird.
- 1:29:11So for me, city courses, I'm like, yeah, that's cool.
- 1:29:13That's fun.
- 1:29:13I'll watch it on TV.
- 1:29:14You know, I promised you guys I wouldn't talk about rally because we got a
- 1:29:18whole rally special coming spoiler.
- 1:29:20And we mentioned Hoonigan earlier, Leah blocks.
- 1:29:23WRC Subaru debut.
- 1:29:25Not so good.
- 1:29:26No, I think her day ended when she ended up sideways wedged in between two trees.
- 1:29:31Oopsies.
- 1:29:32She was just trying to get on the Zach Galifianakis show.
- 1:29:34She's trying.
- 1:29:35Poor thing.
- 1:29:36I mean.
- 1:29:36I mean, it's Rally.
- 1:29:37Shit happens, right?
- 1:29:38A hundred percent.
- 1:29:39I mean, it's just it.
- 1:29:39It's not if, it's when stuff happens in Rally.
- 1:29:42Rally is so unpredictable.
- 1:29:43It's so risky and dangerous, but to be at the front, you gotta be
- 1:29:47fast and you gotta be able to push.
- 1:29:49But yeah, I saw that picture and I was like, Damn girl, like, that sucks.
- 1:29:53You know, hopefully she dusts herself off and gets back on
- 1:29:56the horse and keeps at it.
- 1:29:58Interesting though, with all the hub a loop, this is why I bring
- 1:30:01it up, with Audi, she's driving a Subaru, she's not driving an Audi.
- 1:30:05I don't get it, I don't understand, right?
- 1:30:06That whole thing was really strange, you know, we speculated, talking about
- 1:30:10ghosts of the past coming back to haunt us, you know, was that a, gotta
- 1:30:13fulfill the contract, you know, all those legendary Michel Mouton and Lea
- 1:30:17Block and this and that, Here we go.
- 1:30:20She's driving a Subaru and it's like, I don't understand, but maybe it's
- 1:30:24not our place to, Oh, and I mentioned virtual stuff earlier, Jimmy Broadbent
- 1:30:29did a two and a half hour review of test drive silver crown, which I don't
- 1:30:32recommend watching the TLDR the too long.
- 1:30:35Didn't read is I might still buy it.
- 1:30:37Anyways, our motor sports news is brought to us in partnership

- 1:37:21I have mine here, but I haven't put it on yet.
- 1:37:24Cause I didn't have time after bedtime.
- 1:37:25You could just put the top part on, like, just put it over your head.
- 1:37:28I could wear it like a cape because nobody can see you from the chin down anyway.
- 1:37:32Well, I'm not wearing pants now anyway.
- 1:37:33Oh, you're doing the Dan Rather thing.
- 1:37:35Yes, the burgundy.
- 1:37:38I mean, my costume's not that impressive, but Hold on, let me put mine on.
- 1:37:41Your pants or your costume?
- 1:37:45He's going to be so hot.
- 1:37:46Well, not if he does it like you said, like a cape.

- 1:38:06Your pants are your costume.
- 1:38:09I told you, no pants.
- 1:38:11Can you tell me the difference between a unicorn and a narwhal?
- 1:38:13Yeah, one's a horse.
- 1:38:14One swims in the sea and one doesn't exist?
- 1:38:18One's a horse.
- 1:38:19Yeah, one is of the horse variety, the other is of the whale variety.
- 1:38:23They are both mammals, though, so you are correct in that sense.
- 1:38:26I'm a narwhal that looks an awful lot like a unicorn.
- 1:38:29Well, I'm that bombshell.
- 1:38:31Dónde están mis pantalones?
- 1:38:45There's a midi
