- 0:04Speaker 1: Welcome back to Artists on Artists on Artists on Artists.
- 0:07Speaker 2: This week Bow Wow Wolf Wolf, Who Let the Dogs Out?
- 0:11Speaker 2: It's these directors of famous dog.
- 0:14Speaker 3: Movies Airbud Beethoven to list a few. Dog movies are
- 0:20Speaker 3: a huge part of American cinema. They bring families together
- 0:25Speaker 3: and cuddles forever.
- 0:28Speaker 4: These directors and showrunners and creators of these movies have
- 0:32Speaker 4: to make sure that their actors get on their barks,
- 0:38Speaker 4: and we got to see what it's like to actually
- 0:40Speaker 4: work behind the scenes of a dog movie.
- 0:43Speaker 5: So let's wag your tail, sit on down and listen.
- 0:47Speaker 5: In day.
- 0:51Speaker 4: It's really nice to see you guys. Altogether. We don't
- 0:54Speaker 4: ever get to get together, No, not at all, you
- 0:57Speaker 4: really don't.
- 0:58Speaker 3: It's actually incredible that we're all all here together and
- 1:00Speaker 3: we get to talk about so many of our films.
- 1:03Speaker 3: I love all of your guys, body of work.
- 1:05Speaker 1: And what we do is so niche.
- 1:06Speaker 2: What we do is so incredibly niche that it's it's
- 1:09Speaker 2: it's it's not common that we get to meet each
- 1:11Speaker 2: other and we're the we're.
- 1:12Speaker 4: The mount Rushmore of dog movies.
- 1:14Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:19Speaker 5: Working with kids hard. Try working with a dog. Try
- 1:22Speaker 5: working with a dog. He said that.
- 1:25Speaker 4: George n never worked with animals.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Animals are children?
- 1:28Speaker 4: Who said that?
- 1:29Speaker 7: I who said that?
- 1:30Speaker 1: Who said that?
- 1:30Speaker 4: I think?
- 1:31Speaker 5: Who said? Who did say George Vern?
- 1:34Speaker 7: Who said it?
- 1:35Speaker 1: Did anyone o them?
- 1:36Speaker 5: It was it Ridley Scott? Was it Ridley? I don't
- 1:38Speaker 5: have a phone.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Now it was William Shakespeare? You know who said that?
- 1:42Speaker 7: I think Margot Robbie.
- 1:45Speaker 4: She might have been quoting the original person who said so.
- 1:48Speaker 7: Then who said that?
- 1:49Speaker 5: Who's Jules Vern? Well?
- 1:50Speaker 2: Now I read it in a Quota Day magazine about Hollywood.
- 1:54Speaker 6: Okay, let's go around around, because I don't think they
- 1:59Speaker 6: might know what by the dogs in our movies they
- 2:02Speaker 6: might not notice by our faces.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Well, of course I am Tiffany Mickfadden, and I wrote
- 2:07Speaker 2: and produced and directed the film.
- 2:10Speaker 1: A Dog Searching.
- 2:12Speaker 2: It is about a lost dog a family who is
- 2:15Speaker 2: searching for their beloved dog, Pippin, and Pippin has actually.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Lost a dog of his own.
- 2:22Speaker 2: So it's about a dog searching for his own dog.
- 2:27Speaker 2: And the twist is that dog also has a dog
- 2:31Speaker 2: he's looking for. Now, just to clarify, these are not
- 2:34Speaker 2: puppies of the dogs. These are dogs that these dogs
- 2:37Speaker 2: own legally they went to the Humane Society and they've
- 2:41Speaker 2: actually legally filled out the paperwork to adopt these dogs
- 2:44Speaker 2: of their own. So they're absolutely distraught. I mean, can
- 2:47Speaker 2: you imagine being a human and losing a dog that's
- 2:50Speaker 2: so much more magnified as a dog.
- 2:53Speaker 1: For the dog that's such a strong emotional And I.
- 2:55Speaker 4: Loved your movie that you made a special web series
- 2:58Speaker 4: where the dog went to the Humane Society, so there's
- 3:01Speaker 4: a companion. I actually got the DVD, so I got
- 3:03Speaker 4: to see the web series. Yeah, and it was really awesome.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Yeah, and we're we worked closely with the Humane Society
- 3:10Speaker 2: on that. We uh we we had to work with them,
- 3:13Speaker 2: both both the Humane Society and a lot of really
- 3:16Speaker 2: talented animal trainers to actually physically get the pen into
- 3:20Speaker 2: the paws of the dog. We need to teach them
- 3:22Speaker 2: how to sign their own names, because the Humane Society
- 3:24Speaker 2: was really strict on this. They wouldn't legally let the
- 3:28Speaker 2: dog have the other dog unless they could provide a signature,
- 3:31Speaker 2: and they wouldn't take a paw prints.
- 3:37Speaker 3: And the poster of the dog holding a leash, and
- 3:41Speaker 3: the way the.
- 3:42Speaker 6: Pot confused, like dude, where's my car it is?
- 3:45Speaker 1: We take a lot of inspiration from Dude, Where's My Car?
- 3:48Speaker 2: The old title for this was dude, whar's my dog?
- 3:52Speaker 7: Oh? I'm glad you stuck with the other.
- 3:54Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, live action, right, it's a live action.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Oh yes, yes, yes, live action. Well except for that
- 4:01Speaker 2: one part at the end, but I won't spoil it.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Well we'll get to that credit sec Yeah.
- 4:07Speaker 4: Well that's just text.
- 4:09Speaker 5: You don't you don't have to. You don't usually in
- 4:11Speaker 5: a movie.
- 4:12Speaker 4: You don't have to mention that that that that the
- 4:15Speaker 4: the credits are not live action.
- 4:17Speaker 1: It's animated.
- 4:18Speaker 2: I mean, I think everything is so live action these days,
- 4:21Speaker 2: but it's such a it's so refreshing to return to
- 4:25Speaker 2: two D animation.
- 4:26Speaker 4: Sure you might get.
- 4:30Speaker 1: We're not celebrated anymore.
- 4:32Speaker 2: It really grinds my gears when we don't give credit
- 4:35Speaker 2: to the talented animation artists behind credit sequences.
- 4:39Speaker 4: I wouldn't consider them animation artists.
- 4:41Speaker 5: Let's move on, let's move on.
- 4:42Speaker 4: Let's don't have to. I don't have to turn over
- 4:44Speaker 4: that stone.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Dog greed to disagree.
- 4:46Speaker 7: Okay, Oh, I love that we're barking our way up here.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Oh so, hi guys, my name is Liza ben Simone.
- 4:55Speaker 3: I have been writing and directing dog movies since I
- 5:01Speaker 3: graduated n y U Film School. My newest film, Dog
- 5:07Speaker 3: Getting hit by a Train after drowning in an Ocean,
- 5:11Speaker 3: came out. It is dog getting train after drowning in
- 5:16Speaker 3: an ocean came out, and I wrote that one before
- 5:20Speaker 3: my first movie actually, which which is what really put
- 5:24Speaker 3: me in the dog filmmaking category. That was two dogs
- 5:29Speaker 3: hitting each other so hard they explode and one of
- 5:33Speaker 3: them cries himself to death.
- 5:35Speaker 7: That was the one.
- 5:36Speaker 1: What I love about your film is this.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Usually there is some sort of mystery of whether or
- 5:41Speaker 2: not the dog is going to pass away, and like
- 5:43Speaker 2: you always it's that that trope with dog movies where
- 5:45Speaker 2: you desperately hope the dog won't pass away, but you
- 5:48Speaker 2: tell us right away, this dog is gonna die in
- 5:52Speaker 2: a pretty rough and graphic way.
- 5:54Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 5:54Speaker 3: I'm working on another one right now where we're playing
- 5:58Speaker 3: with audience. Like the numbers were getting from audience reactions
- 6:03Speaker 3: and how they're feeling in the in the audience when
- 6:05Speaker 3: they're watching the movie. And I just love making my
- 6:08Speaker 3: audience feel something. I think that's why I got into filmmaking.
- 6:11Speaker 3: So my newest movie we're working on a dog death
- 6:15Speaker 3: every ten minutes.
- 6:16Speaker 4: Wow ratio.
- 6:18Speaker 3: Yeah, And we're doing that, and to do that and
- 6:20Speaker 3: introduce the audience to a new dog and then to
- 6:24Speaker 3: kill off that dog every ten minutes. We're really trying
- 6:27Speaker 3: to bring people together. And I think what brings people
- 6:31Speaker 3: together is dogs dying.
- 6:33Speaker 4: And is that an action film or is that some
- 6:35Speaker 4: sort of horror film?
- 6:36Speaker 7: So that we're doing a little bit. I'm pulling from
- 6:38Speaker 7: some inspiration.
- 6:40Speaker 3: Love actually is one of the polls.
- 6:47Speaker 5: Stories that are all tied.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Together, and the stories intersect and the way I would die.
- 6:52Speaker 5: That's their intersection, is that they all die.
- 6:54Speaker 7: Yes, that's what I'm doing.
- 6:55Speaker 2: They're all meeting together in the afterlife. I mean, we
- 6:58Speaker 2: don't see that well you know exactly.
- 7:00Speaker 3: Jennifer Gardner maybe is the niece, uh maybe of the
- 7:06Speaker 3: other beagles, mom who's lost her beagle. You know, it's like,
- 7:11Speaker 3: I'm still working, mom, I'm.
- 7:14Speaker 7: Still putting it all together.
- 7:15Speaker 2: To be honest, you know, I saw still of the
- 7:20Speaker 2: production that leaked. I don't know if you could confirm this,
- 7:22Speaker 2: but it's of a dog holding up a sign that
- 7:25Speaker 2: says you're about to get hit by a car written
- 7:28Speaker 2: in sharpie, and another dog looking on from a higher window.
- 7:31Speaker 3: That leaked right after Greta Gerwigg's Barbie film.
- 7:37Speaker 4: Same.
- 7:39Speaker 3: I can't get paparazzi away from my films because they're
- 7:42Speaker 3: going to ruin it. I don't want people to know
- 7:44Speaker 3: that those dogs will die.
- 7:45Speaker 4: Well, I want to bring this up. I think it
- 7:47Speaker 4: might be because I'm driving on Hollywood. I see those
- 7:49Speaker 4: yellow production signs with the arrows, and it always says
- 7:51Speaker 4: a dog's dying over here. So I think you should
- 7:53Speaker 4: change the name of the production.
- 7:55Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 7:56Speaker 4: I think that is just natural bait. People are gonna
- 7:58Speaker 4: want to go to.
- 7:58Speaker 7: Well, that's my escorp too, so I can't.
- 8:01Speaker 4: Yeah, quote from a movie, I'm walking here, what's that from?
- 8:05Speaker 7: Who said that?
- 8:06Speaker 5: Who said? Is that Jules Verne?
- 8:07Speaker 7: Who said that? Greta Gerwick?
- 8:10Speaker 1: Well, I heard Judy Garland said that in a way.
- 8:14Speaker 5: Okay, I did think she said. I don't remember her
- 8:18Speaker 5: saying that in a way she went, she sort of
- 8:22Speaker 5: alluded to it.
- 8:24Speaker 4: Well, time for me to introduce myself. My name is
- 8:27Speaker 4: Rudy Kunn. I am really nice. It's really nice to
- 8:30Speaker 4: be here.
- 8:31Speaker 5: I love you guys. Rudy absolutely maybe the most legendary
- 8:34Speaker 5: of us all.
- 8:34Speaker 4: Please please, Yeah, Rudy, I'm lucky to live the life
- 8:38Speaker 4: I live. Every day I wake up, I get my
- 8:40Speaker 4: my wife to pinch me and I and I get
- 8:42Speaker 4: her to say you're alive. Because I can't believe it's
- 8:44Speaker 4: such a she.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Has to do that every day. She won ever get
- 8:47Speaker 1: to sleep in she.
- 8:48Speaker 4: Wants to wait for if she's still sleeping, I'll wait
- 8:52Speaker 4: in bed awake. I'll do on my iPad or doing
- 8:55Speaker 4: the word or whatever, and then I'll and then I'll
- 8:58Speaker 4: wait for her to wake Come when she wakes up,
- 9:00Speaker 4: a letter, pinch me. I am the director and creator
- 9:05Speaker 4: of Working Like a Dog series, the Working Like a
- 9:08Speaker 4: Dog series. As you know, this dog, through some sort
- 9:12Speaker 4: of stipulation gets into some sort of intense job. So
- 9:15Speaker 4: working like a dog lawyer, Working like a Dog doctor
- 9:19Speaker 4: one of my favorite welder.
- 9:20Speaker 6: Yes, one of Working Like a Dog Lawyer was one
- 9:23Speaker 6: of my favorite movies I've ever seen.
- 9:25Speaker 7: Working like a Dog sex worker and incredible.
- 9:28Speaker 4: Was insane, and that one got me in a little
- 9:30Speaker 4: bit of trouble.
- 9:32Speaker 1: I do remember, but I mean I think you're validating.
- 9:35Speaker 1: You know, sex work is work.
- 9:37Speaker 4: It was pro work.
- 9:38Speaker 5: Yeah, it's work.
- 9:39Speaker 4: It was it was pro sex work.
- 9:40Speaker 6: It was.
- 9:40Speaker 4: It was also probcality in many ways.
- 9:43Speaker 2: It's got me in a little bit of a It
- 9:45Speaker 2: wasn't I mean, you had a limit. It was the
- 9:47Speaker 2: dogs on the dogs. It wasn't anything else like this
- 9:49Speaker 2: dog on dog.
- 9:50Speaker 4: And that's the first one we've ever done dog on
- 9:52Speaker 4: dog because all the other ones are. It's what's so
- 9:55Speaker 4: exciting is what's so exciting is you know they they
- 9:58Speaker 4: this is a dog in a human the worlds a lawyer, doctor, welder.
- 10:03Speaker 4: He can't do that for sex, No bounce house operator.
- 10:05Speaker 4: These were all really.
- 10:07Speaker 6: Every line every time your movie, there's that line, this
- 10:10Speaker 6: dog can't be a bounce house owner.
- 10:12Speaker 5: Yeah, this dog can't be a lawyer. Yeah, but that one,
- 10:16Speaker 5: uh dog sex worker.
- 10:17Speaker 4: It was changed to this dog can fuss exactly, and
- 10:20Speaker 4: then another dog said that.
- 10:22Speaker 7: Joan Rivers was in that right.
- 10:24Speaker 4: Joan Rivers her last film.
- 10:26Speaker 6: And man, can we talk about the lead dog that
- 10:28Speaker 6: you use for every film. I don't know if you
- 10:30Speaker 6: sub him out, but.
- 10:32Speaker 4: Chubby, his name is Chubby's a Rottweiler.
- 10:33Speaker 5: He is my dog.
- 10:35Speaker 4: He's my guy. Actually have four Chubby is number one,
- 10:39Speaker 4: Chico's number two, Regina's number three and spot is number four.
- 10:43Speaker 4: Are the siblings, They are siblings. Yeah, they all came
- 10:46Speaker 4: from the same litter.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Ah, that's nice. Yeah, congrats.
- 10:49Speaker 3: I saw on Veterinary, the veterinary magazine. Yeah, the Veterinary magazine,
- 10:54Speaker 3: Veternary Magazine.
- 10:55Speaker 1: When it dropped on Bedline, Yeah.
- 10:57Speaker 7: Vetline Animal of the Year, they did Shamoo and Chubby.
- 11:01Speaker 4: Yeah, Shamoo and Chubby.
- 11:03Speaker 5: Shamoo got again. What a comeback for Shamoo.
- 11:05Speaker 4: I'm having to come back this year that that whale
- 11:07Speaker 4: has been through a lot.
- 11:09Speaker 7: It was choppy.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Yeah, we're fine with that now. I think we're fine
- 11:12Speaker 1: with I.
- 11:13Speaker 4: Think we're good with SeaWorld.
- 11:14Speaker 3: And you've never had a problem with SeaWorld. I've never
- 11:18Speaker 3: had a fucking problem with SeaWorld. Those guys are making art.
- 11:21Speaker 3: And when I talk about guys, I mean those seals
- 11:24Speaker 3: and elephant seals, yes, all of them.
- 11:28Speaker 4: Yeah, Chubby has gone through a lot, Chubby. Uh. I
- 11:32Speaker 4: had a big moment in the public eye Rick Jennifer
- 11:36Speaker 4: Lawrence's dress off of her The people's choice was that staged,
- 11:40Speaker 4: That was not staged. That was not stage.
- 11:42Speaker 5: It looks stage to me. She was bleeding. I thought
- 11:44Speaker 5: it was stage.
- 11:45Speaker 4: No, No, that was real blood. That wasn't stage bleeding.
- 11:48Speaker 7: Well was it stage when he got slimed with Dwayne
- 11:50Speaker 7: the Rock Johnson at.
- 11:51Speaker 4: The staged because we you have to tell a dog
- 11:53Speaker 4: if you're going to put slime on him. It's union rule.
- 11:57Speaker 5: He understood it.
- 11:59Speaker 4: Yeah, my hands are tied on that one. I wish
- 12:00Speaker 4: I didn't have to tell him because I love to
- 12:01Speaker 4: see the surprise. So yeah, it's really really excited. We're
- 12:05Speaker 4: really excited about our newest of Working like a Dog movie.
- 12:08Speaker 1: It's coming out this year, which one.
- 12:11Speaker 4: Announcing it right here? Skydiving instructor, Oh, instructor, Yes, skydiving instructor,
- 12:19Speaker 4: Working like a dog. Skydiving instructor is gonna be really excited.
- 12:22Speaker 1: That's so exciting.
- 12:22Speaker 5: What's the plot there?
- 12:24Speaker 4: So he gets hired as a skydiving instructor?
- 12:27Speaker 5: Okay, and.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Does anyone ever tell the dog he can't be a
- 12:33Speaker 1: skydiving instructor?
- 12:34Speaker 4: You bet, you better believe the pilot does.
- 12:37Speaker 1: But he does anything?
- 12:38Speaker 5: Does it?
- 12:39Speaker 4: Anyways?
- 12:39Speaker 5: My God sense to me that he would not be
- 12:42Speaker 5: able to.
- 12:42Speaker 6: Out of all the jobs you've said, skydiving instructor seems
- 12:45Speaker 6: like the most unlikely dogs so.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Is the dog strapped to a person as he falls
- 12:49Speaker 1: through the sky and.
- 12:51Speaker 7: Telling what the person what to do.
- 12:52Speaker 6: Yeah, because he's not just a skydiver, he's a skydiving
- 12:55Speaker 6: instruck is he's an instructor.
- 12:57Speaker 4: He's he's mostly working with other skydivingst to teach them
- 13:01Speaker 4: how to skydive. And so and then you gotta see
- 13:04Speaker 4: there's Chubby pulls the cord. And that was a really
- 13:07Speaker 4: exciting trick for us to show him being in midair
- 13:11Speaker 4: with Chubby trying to teach him as we're flying to
- 13:14Speaker 4: pull a cord was so thrilling. And all the food
- 13:17Speaker 4: in my mouth that are usually keeping there as treats
- 13:19Speaker 4: definitely difficult.
- 13:20Speaker 1: To keep in You're keep it in your mouth.
- 13:24Speaker 4: Because it's warmer in there. What you guys don't when
- 13:28Speaker 4: you're training your dogs, you don't keep food in your mouth.
- 13:30Speaker 1: No, I keep it in my soft there's a warmer
- 13:32Speaker 1: in this.
- 13:32Speaker 4: This is a real thing that people do at dog shows.
- 13:34Speaker 4: They have little food in their mouth that they feed
- 13:35Speaker 4: their dogs.
- 13:36Speaker 7: This is what I do in their mouths.
- 13:37Speaker 4: They keep the food in their mouths.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Oh this isn't a weird thing.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Okay, Then I take back what I said, Okay, legend,
- 13:45Speaker 2: you introduce yourself.
- 13:47Speaker 5: Hi, guys, what's up.
- 13:48Speaker 6: I'm a Glen Army and I'm a Christian dog filmmaker. Recently,
- 13:55Speaker 6: you might have seen my movie Passion of the Dog.
- 13:57Speaker 6: It is a beautiful retelling of the story of Jesus,
- 14:01Speaker 6: but everybody is a dog, and it's a beautiful story.
- 14:05Speaker 6: And it's getting some it's getting some buzz, and I'm
- 14:08Speaker 6: really excited to talk about that. You know, it's coming
- 14:10Speaker 6: out in specific Christian theaters very very soon.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Would you say the buzz is positive or negative?
- 14:17Speaker 5: Yeah, the buzz is both positive and very negative.
- 14:20Speaker 7: Hey, good press is bad press.
- 14:22Speaker 5: Hey that's what I've been saying.
- 14:24Speaker 7: Who said that?
- 14:24Speaker 1: Who said that?
- 14:26Speaker 6: Margot Robbie, It's gotta be Jules Vern So anyway, yeah,
- 14:31Speaker 6: I'm getting some bad press. I mean, we'll just jump
- 14:35Speaker 6: to it. The crucifixion scene. People did not appreciate that.
- 14:38Speaker 6: People have not been liking it. And I'll go on
- 14:40Speaker 6: the record here it was not real. We did not
- 14:42Speaker 6: actually crucify that dog. But it does look like we
- 14:45Speaker 6: actually crucified that dogs.
- 14:47Speaker 5: Uh huh.
- 14:48Speaker 7: So the footage that was released on vetline wasn't it?
- 14:52Speaker 6: Was? It?
- 14:52Speaker 7: Didn't look good.
- 14:53Speaker 5: I'll be honest, it didn't look good.
- 14:54Speaker 4: It's controversial because you can't really get a dog display
- 14:58Speaker 4: their arms out like that. That's just you can.
- 15:00Speaker 5: You can, and we did.
- 15:01Speaker 3: You can, you can't, but it doesn't look natural, as
- 15:04Speaker 3: if a dog strapped to a human falling out of
- 15:06Speaker 3: a skydiving.
- 15:08Speaker 4: And that was natural.
- 15:09Speaker 2: Because I know your work, I know you care about animals.
- 15:11Speaker 2: I know that you don't cut corners on animal safety,
- 15:13Speaker 2: so I would imagine did you have to find a
- 15:15Speaker 2: double jointed dog to be able to do that?
- 15:18Speaker 6: We found a dog that could just stretch a little wider.
- 15:21Speaker 6: We didn't go full tea. We went more of a
- 15:23Speaker 6: y kind of a okay tough for the cross, and
- 15:29Speaker 6: then we did a couple of shots where we just
- 15:32Speaker 6: got the dog. We put fake prosthetic dog arms on
- 15:35Speaker 6: it to get the full teeth.
- 15:36Speaker 3: See, but that dog was a doxin and putting fake
- 15:39Speaker 3: arms on a docs and I find just an.
- 15:41Speaker 4: Appropriate its.
- 15:44Speaker 6: Well yeah, so the huge long arms I had to
- 15:50Speaker 6: match it. It felt like he had such a long body.
- 15:52Speaker 6: Wouldn't he also have long arms on the cross.
- 15:54Speaker 5: I don't know. It just worked for me, it worked.
- 15:56Speaker 4: I just can't imagine a docks and walking with long
- 15:58Speaker 4: arms like that normal dogs legs. I can't imagine it
- 16:01Speaker 4: ever getting off the ground.
- 16:02Speaker 5: Uh huh.
- 16:03Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's just a little old fashioned to me.
- 16:06Speaker 3: We don't tell a starlit actresses to get boob jobs anymore.
- 16:09Speaker 4: No, I keep my dog's naturally.
- 16:11Speaker 5: Well, I wasn't.
- 16:11Speaker 4: I wasn't.
- 16:12Speaker 5: I wasn't. It wasn't. It wasn't a surgery, it was prosthetic.
- 16:15Speaker 7: It was sure.
- 16:16Speaker 4: I just yeah, sure. I want to go on record
- 16:19Speaker 4: and saying, out of all the people here, I like
- 16:20Speaker 4: your films the least.
- 16:22Speaker 5: It just felt like that. It felt like that I do.
- 16:24Speaker 5: I don't know what happened. And this is the thing.
- 16:28Speaker 1: The discussion with like a base understanding of where.
- 16:30Speaker 6: We all yeah so, And this is the thing that's
- 16:32Speaker 6: been an uphill battle for me because I find the
- 16:34Speaker 6: power of Christ so compelling that I have to fight
- 16:38Speaker 6: for him.
- 16:39Speaker 5: And I find that the best way to tell that
- 16:42Speaker 5: story was through dogs.
- 16:43Speaker 7: Now, can I ask what makes it the best way?
- 16:47Speaker 6: I think you get rid of people and get to
- 16:50Speaker 6: see dogs, and that's why you get.
- 16:52Speaker 1: It, so you you just enjoy seeing the dog.
- 16:55Speaker 6: Well, I think it's stronger. Oh, what you're gonna get
- 16:58Speaker 6: a famous actor to play ponscious pilot? No, get a
- 17:02Speaker 6: pug to play ponscious pilot.
- 17:04Speaker 5: I did love that. Yeah, Puggy the pug.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Do you think the gospel isn't enough on its own
- 17:09Speaker 3: that you need to add puppies to it?
- 17:11Speaker 6: I think the gospel is more than enough on our
- 17:13Speaker 6: own that I don't need humans ruining the words. I
- 17:16Speaker 6: need dogs retelling the story.
- 17:18Speaker 4: I got a question because I can't stand to talk
- 17:20Speaker 4: about this an I got a good question for you guys.
- 17:25Speaker 4: So when it goes to writing, you know how musicians,
- 17:28Speaker 4: it's like the lyrics or the melody. When you guys
- 17:32Speaker 4: make a movie, is it the dog that comes first?
- 17:34Speaker 4: Or is it the story? Do you find the dog
- 17:36Speaker 4: for the story or do you find the story for
- 17:37Speaker 4: the dog.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Oh, I'm definitely dog first. I take generals with a
- 17:41Speaker 2: lot of dogs. So I'm taking I'm I'm you know,
- 17:45Speaker 2: I meet a lot of dogs, and I'm lucky to.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Have some like good relationships with a lot of doggs.
- 17:50Speaker 5: What dogs have you met? Because I also take I'm
- 17:52Speaker 5: sure we all do a lot.
- 17:55Speaker 1: I'm there's this up and cover. I'm really excited about.
- 17:58Speaker 5: Rudy Poodle mix Rudy Poodle mix Y.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Do you guys feel they came up through ASPCA, Yes,
- 18:03Speaker 3: came up through straight through the system.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Yeah, straight through the system.
- 18:07Speaker 2: And it is really really just like charisma, great personality
- 18:12Speaker 2: I think I have. I'm not ready to cast him yet,
- 18:15Speaker 2: but he's almost there.
- 18:16Speaker 5: And he trained it.
- 18:17Speaker 4: He trained it. I think he was at the petcoat classes.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, he's pet co trained. He's so valuable.
- 18:23Speaker 5: Yeah, is an institution. You know you're gonna get a
- 18:26Speaker 5: good dog.
- 18:27Speaker 1: You know you're gonna get a good Yes.
- 18:29Speaker 4: That's a great question for Tiffany. I think everyone wants
- 18:32Speaker 4: to know there. If you're a young dog actor, you
- 18:34Speaker 4: have a dog, what are some common mistakes that people
- 18:36Speaker 4: make in dog generals?
- 18:38Speaker 2: Oh, well, I would say, I mean, I I can't
- 18:41Speaker 2: tell you how many times that I have interacted with
- 18:44Speaker 2: a young dog like a puppy. You know, they're green,
- 18:47Speaker 2: they they're straight from the puppy farm and they come
- 18:50Speaker 2: and meet me. You know, it's sweet green, and they
- 18:54Speaker 2: try and pay for my fucking salad.
- 18:58Speaker 5: And so that's the wrong thing to do.
- 19:00Speaker 1: That's the wrong thing to you.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Are you generally offensive to me because it implies that I,
- 19:05Speaker 2: as the human with a check or a debit card
- 19:09Speaker 2: in my hand, that I can't pay my bills, and
- 19:11Speaker 2: that really, frankly grinds my gears in a way.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Also, wagging too much.
- 19:16Speaker 5: Are you is a little desperate for me, especially from
- 19:19Speaker 5: the puppy farms.
- 19:20Speaker 4: You can't wag too.
- 19:21Speaker 7: Much, frankly, it's an approachate good look on the tape.
- 19:24Speaker 4: On the tape, the wag is so frenetic. It doesn't
- 19:26Speaker 4: show up well on camera. You need to be able
- 19:28Speaker 4: to control the world.
- 19:28Speaker 1: No, Because it does.
- 19:29Speaker 2: It alters the auto focus of the lights and so
- 19:32Speaker 2: it's like a seizure effects.
- 19:34Speaker 5: It's a frame rate thing too.
- 19:36Speaker 7: Do you guys feel like all your generals right now
- 19:38Speaker 7: are golden doodles?
- 19:39Speaker 3: Because I want to talk about the golden doodle and
- 19:41Speaker 3: what that changed to our industry, and because I as
- 19:45Speaker 3: someone who's pitching movies to studios, I I just kept
- 19:49Speaker 3: hitting a wall lately where they said is the dog
- 19:51Speaker 3: a golden doodle? And I said, are you going to
- 19:55Speaker 3: finance it if I tell you it's a lab? And
- 19:58Speaker 3: they say, no, these guys want these golden doodles, And yeah, frankly,
- 20:03Speaker 3: I won't work with them.
- 20:04Speaker 6: Well, that's I was kind of forced to make Mary
- 20:08Speaker 6: the Golden Doodle, which was tough, you know, because it
- 20:11Speaker 6: doesn't really make sense that the gold.
- 20:14Speaker 1: And that was the studio.
- 20:15Speaker 5: That was the studio. Yeah, yeah, so the studio was pushing.
- 20:19Speaker 6: I'm I luckily got to make Jesus Christ awena dog
- 20:24Speaker 6: and Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ was a golden doodle.
- 20:26Speaker 5: That's the studio was down my throat.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Because that also implies that God is what kind of
- 20:32Speaker 2: dog when he impregnated Mary, because that's a that's what
- 20:37Speaker 2: it's a.
- 20:37Speaker 4: Docsin, It's a docson with great Dane arms. Let's make
- 20:41Speaker 4: it clear.
- 20:42Speaker 7: Golden and gold Palad's golden doodle mother.
- 20:47Speaker 5: So it makes sense to me.
- 20:48Speaker 6: I don't know what the problem is because for me
- 20:51Speaker 6: it makes sense because God and dog.
- 20:56Speaker 1: I'm not denying that God is a dog. I'm just
- 20:59Speaker 1: saying that the genetics of what kind of dog he is.
- 21:02Speaker 4: And also golden doodle themselves, they're so privileged, you said
- 21:05Speaker 4: Pacific Palisade. Exactly, I mean, they're they're so entitled. This
- 21:08Speaker 4: show privilege. They're not natural, they're not of this earth.
- 21:11Speaker 4: You know they were creative. They have these two animals,
- 21:14Speaker 4: you know, a golden retriever and a poodle. They should
- 21:16Speaker 4: never have cross paths.
- 21:17Speaker 2: And I can't tell you how many times, you know,
- 21:19Speaker 2: I hear this a lot actually from golden doodle actors.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Is, oh, I can't get a job anymore.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Like everybody like they're well, I guess that's a poodle
- 21:29Speaker 2: higher And it's like it's so it's like it's not true.
- 21:33Speaker 2: It's like they're coming from a place of privilege. They
- 21:36Speaker 2: have been dominating for so long, like it's time to
- 21:39Speaker 2: let somebody else in.
- 21:41Speaker 4: They need to get over themselves.
- 21:43Speaker 1: They need to get over themselves.
- 21:44Speaker 4: That's why I exclusively with Rottweilers. Rottwilers, I'll be it
- 21:48Speaker 4: the scariest dog on the world. I'llbit the scariest dog
- 21:52Speaker 4: on the whole world. But I like, I like saying, hey,
- 21:55Speaker 4: this guy's scary, but he does something fun, and he's
- 21:58Speaker 4: doing something a human could do.
- 22:00Speaker 5: I like to break the mold. Well, let's talk about
- 22:02Speaker 5: that for a second.
- 22:03Speaker 6: Because Rottweilers are also genetically modified, just like golden doodles.
- 22:07Speaker 5: I think any dog.
- 22:10Speaker 7: Speaking of God, rottweiler is from the creation of a guy.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Oh is that in the what?
- 22:15Speaker 7: In in what in the Bible or in in the
- 22:19Speaker 7: in the the dog wiki page.
- 22:22Speaker 5: Oh, so it's on the dog wiki page. It says
- 22:24Speaker 5: Rottweilers are from God.
- 22:26Speaker 1: I thought you were doing it quoting a religious thing.
- 22:28Speaker 4: Though I put that on the wiki. You didn't guilty.
- 22:32Speaker 4: I'm like Banksy of the wiki.
- 22:35Speaker 5: So I've got a question because.
- 22:40Speaker 6: I've got a question because I you know, I know
- 22:42Speaker 6: we are working with a lot of dogs, and sometimes
- 22:45Speaker 6: dogs on set can be divas.
- 22:48Speaker 5: What are you guys strategies to get around that. I'll
- 22:50Speaker 5: go first.
- 22:51Speaker 6: I'll go first because I know I'm kind of against
- 22:54Speaker 6: the fence here, like kind of what's happening to all
- 22:57Speaker 6: Christians around the world.
- 22:58Speaker 7: Don't make this.
- 22:59Speaker 4: About I don't have a problem with I'm also Christian.
- 23:02Speaker 4: I just don't like your attitude or your products.
- 23:03Speaker 7: Well, I'm also a Christian too.
- 23:05Speaker 5: Oh, I just don't know about that. I just don't
- 23:07Speaker 5: know about that. So what we do on our set
- 23:10Speaker 5: is what we'll.
- 23:11Speaker 6: Get into is if what happened unfortunately on our set
- 23:14Speaker 6: was because we had so many dogs at one time,
- 23:17Speaker 6: there was a lot of fights. Well, feeding time was
- 23:20Speaker 6: a mess every time a break for lunch, fighting, fighting, fighting, fighting, fighting, fighting.
- 23:26Speaker 6: What we ended up doing was doing a caste system
- 23:28Speaker 6: type of setup where certain dogs were elevated to royalty
- 23:32Speaker 6: and other dogs were kind of the servants of those dogs,
- 23:34Speaker 6: and it really worked well for the dogs.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Would you say that that is biblically supported?
- 23:43Speaker 5: Yeah, kind of in the Bible.
- 23:46Speaker 6: You can definitely get situations and feelings of like a
- 23:50Speaker 6: situation where some people were elevated, like Moses and his
- 23:53Speaker 6: family was much higher than all.
- 23:54Speaker 5: The people that he was.
- 23:55Speaker 4: You know, So what breeds are you putting on the
- 23:57Speaker 4: lowest rung and what breeds are put on the top wrong?
- 24:00Speaker 6: Well, obviously Jackson's and Wiener dogs are gonna be at
- 24:03Speaker 6: the top.
- 24:03Speaker 5: That's Jesus Christ. You gotta put that at the top.
- 24:06Speaker 6: And then mostly I'll give it to the pugs, anybody
- 24:11Speaker 6: that had a status in the movie.
- 24:12Speaker 7: I love working with pugs.
- 24:14Speaker 5: Yes, Pugs are so fun hard workers.
- 24:16Speaker 1: They're really fun.
- 24:16Speaker 6: They really dial in and they they memorize, they like
- 24:19Speaker 6: show up ready to work.
- 24:20Speaker 1: You know, they're really tough for.
- 24:24Speaker 2: I know my sound guy has a lot of trouble
- 24:26Speaker 2: with them because they breathe like.
- 24:29Speaker 7: Bulldogs.
- 24:30Speaker 5: You don't want to.
- 24:32Speaker 3: I don't want to specific boom hop when I work
- 24:35Speaker 3: with pugs or bulldogs, and the boom hop is like, like,
- 24:41Speaker 3: it's just it's a certain type of sound.
- 24:42Speaker 1: You gotta mic a pug from far away.
- 24:44Speaker 4: I won't even let a pug when I'm auditioning a
- 24:47Speaker 4: dog for a movie. I won't let pugs in because
- 24:49Speaker 4: I can hear them in the waiting room. It'll distract
- 24:51Speaker 4: me during the audition tape.
- 24:53Speaker 7: But they work hard.
- 24:54Speaker 4: They work hard, the work horses of dogs.
- 24:57Speaker 1: What dogg will you never work with?
- 25:01Speaker 4: Oh?
- 25:02Speaker 7: I will never work with.
- 25:05Speaker 5: Hmmm.
- 25:07Speaker 7: I will never work with a dog that doesn't have
- 25:09Speaker 7: a sparkle.
- 25:10Speaker 5: In its eye. So not a specific breed, No, it's
- 25:14Speaker 5: a thing.
- 25:14Speaker 3: It's a thing I look for. It's a I look
- 25:17Speaker 3: for something that will break my heart. And if you
- 25:21Speaker 3: are just glazed behind the eyes and there's not a
- 25:23Speaker 3: lot going on in there, that's.
- 25:25Speaker 7: Not going to cut it for me.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Well, that's interesting because you famously all of your dogs
- 25:30Speaker 2: tragically pass away in your movies, Like what what kind
- 25:34Speaker 2: of dog do we want to see pass away?
- 25:37Speaker 6: Like?
- 25:37Speaker 1: Is there something you look for in like, Oh, that
- 25:39Speaker 1: would be a good dog to die exactly.
- 25:41Speaker 7: It goes from story to story.
- 25:42Speaker 3: But no matter what the dog must be, it must
- 25:46Speaker 3: be an angelic like looking dog, right, it needs to
- 25:49Speaker 3: be the most full of joy and full of love,
- 25:52Speaker 3: because then we will get the most mileage out of
- 25:54Speaker 3: the death right.
- 25:56Speaker 7: And we're looking for dogs that connect with my actors.
- 26:00Speaker 3: Well, I always let's talk about chemistry reads, because I
- 26:04Speaker 3: I was looking for a dog got hit by a
- 26:07Speaker 3: train after he was drowned to death in the ocean.
- 26:10Speaker 3: I had a specific lab and he just was his
- 26:14Speaker 3: beautifully symmetrical snout and I loved him. He was such
- 26:18Speaker 3: a good listener, really great. We brought in Gerard Butler
- 26:22Speaker 3: and when they's.
- 26:25Speaker 5: Butler trying to save the dog or trying to drown.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Them, well, that no, that that's his dog in the movie.
- 26:30Speaker 3: And he loses the dog because he's a surfer.
- 26:32Speaker 5: And he took him out too far.
- 26:34Speaker 7: He took him out too far, and he feels awful.
- 26:36Speaker 3: Meanwhile, the lab I wanted to look like the ghost
- 26:40Speaker 3: of Gerard Butler's character's wife in.
- 26:43Speaker 7: The movie Who Died.
- 26:45Speaker 5: Oh you cast a woman who looked like so.
- 26:48Speaker 3: Then we had to bring in We first had to
- 26:49Speaker 3: do the chemistry read with Gerard Butler and the lab.
- 26:52Speaker 3: And then I had to bring in Mary on Coatyard
- 26:55Speaker 3: to see if she looked like this lab.
- 26:58Speaker 1: You brought her into the room to see if she
- 27:00Speaker 1: looked like the picture.
- 27:02Speaker 7: I wanted them to I wanted them to have the
- 27:05Speaker 7: same energy.
- 27:05Speaker 3: So I made maryon Coatyard run around, and I made
- 27:09Speaker 3: our lab at the time, Bunny. I made him run
- 27:13Speaker 3: And when I when I felt that both it was
- 27:15Speaker 3: between Mary on Courtyard and Linda Lohan.
- 27:18Speaker 5: And when I between those.
- 27:19Speaker 4: Two people doing those two and how did you get
- 27:22Speaker 4: down to those two? How did you get It's all
- 27:25Speaker 4: about Bunny?
- 27:26Speaker 3: Bunny was connecting and had the most I was like,
- 27:28Speaker 3: he this this dog in another life was either maryon
- 27:31Speaker 3: Courtyard or Lindsay Lohan.
- 27:32Speaker 7: And finally we put it together. I was like, it's Maryon.
- 27:36Speaker 5: But that makes sense to me.
- 27:37Speaker 4: Yeah, I checked out. I would say a lab in
- 27:40Speaker 4: Marion coats Yard, that is probably not who I would cast. Well,
- 27:43Speaker 4: it's energy, it's energy, it's energy, and that's interesting. That's
- 27:45Speaker 4: where you and I differ. You know, if I'm casting someone,
- 27:48Speaker 4: I'm going off eye to eye, nose to nose, mouth
- 27:51Speaker 4: the mouth I'm doing exactly the same type of face.
- 27:54Speaker 4: But did you put on a dog's body?
- 27:55Speaker 6: Do you?
- 27:56Speaker 3: What kind of actors do you like to work with
- 27:59Speaker 3: when you're when you're dealing with exclusively rottweilers.
- 28:02Speaker 4: I like to work with actors who aren't going to
- 28:04Speaker 4: pose any threat or move fast, so slow actors, cautious actors.
- 28:09Speaker 4: Michael Sarah, Michael Sarah, Stephen Root. I'm talking about Don
- 28:16Speaker 4: Delawi's rest his soul when he passed away.
- 28:18Speaker 5: Such a good actor for dogs, really really good.
- 28:21Speaker 4: Uh, there's a lot of Oh Jeff Bridges now really
- 28:25Speaker 4: great with dogs?
- 28:26Speaker 7: Oh young though, No, No.
- 28:29Speaker 4: If Jeff Bridges walked into a rottweiler office, I mean
- 28:32Speaker 4: he would, he'd he'd be walking out with his assen's hands,
- 28:34Speaker 4: that's for sure.
- 28:35Speaker 6: Well, my favorite was when you did a dog lawyer,
- 28:38Speaker 6: working like a dog, working like a dog lawyer.
- 28:40Speaker 5: Jeff Bridges goes into the.
- 28:41Speaker 6: Courtroom and goes, this is my lawyer, Yeah exactly, and
- 28:45Speaker 6: the judge drops their mallet.
- 28:47Speaker 4: Yeah. Chubby playing the character doofy at the time came
- 28:53Speaker 4: into the courtroom. You know, Jeff Bridges was accused of
- 28:56Speaker 4: murder and and he'm do horrible murder, a horrible, horrible murder.
- 29:00Speaker 4: He he killed, uh, the entire burn victim unit of
- 29:05Speaker 4: a hospital, killed allegedly and he didn't do it. You
- 29:11Speaker 4: know what's crazy?
- 29:12Speaker 5: How again did he hire the dog?
- 29:13Speaker 4: What was the reason? Because no one else will take
- 29:15Speaker 4: it because it was so clearly guilty, and the dog
- 29:18Speaker 4: saw something here he wrote on a whiteboard, I think
- 29:21Speaker 4: we can do this. Incredible and he went and we
- 29:24Speaker 4: won the case. What's crazy is that movie? Originally I
- 29:27Speaker 4: got that screenplayed from this really cool guy, Sandy Sandy Keen,
- 29:31Speaker 4: and he didn't write it for dogs. That was my
- 29:34Speaker 4: first working like a dog, and he went everywhere and
- 29:38Speaker 4: he tried to get it made with humans, and I said,
- 29:40Speaker 4: that's not working.
- 29:41Speaker 7: I think I got something because that just sounds like
- 29:43Speaker 7: a lawyer.
- 29:44Speaker 5: Yeah, you must have changed the script so much.
- 29:47Speaker 4: I should have changed it more. I should have changed
- 29:50Speaker 4: it more looking back on it, because it was so serious,
- 29:52Speaker 4: I should have changed it to more of a light crime.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:55Speaker 2: You know, now that I'm remembering, there was that scene
- 29:58Speaker 2: with with with Jeff Ridge's son where he's like, you
- 30:02Speaker 2: will never where he tried. He confronts the lawyer and says,
- 30:08Speaker 2: I think my dad might actually be guilty because and
- 30:11Speaker 2: then he talks about the abuse, about how he hits
- 30:15Speaker 2: him right, and that's like absolutely heartbreaking good but it's
- 30:20Speaker 2: a very human adult theme.
- 30:22Speaker 4: It was really human. And then there's I mean, there's
- 30:24Speaker 4: that love making scene between Doofy and his wife played
- 30:27Speaker 4: by Deborah Winger.
- 30:28Speaker 1: Course, and all the drug use. Ye, my god, the
- 30:32Speaker 1: drug use. I've never seen a dog rail cocaine that fast.
- 30:36Speaker 4: You know what, here's the trick that wasn't cocaine, that
- 30:39Speaker 4: was crushed up milk bone.
- 30:41Speaker 5: No, wow, I really.
- 30:46Speaker 4: Milk bone, you know?
- 30:46Speaker 1: Can I tell you?
- 30:47Speaker 7: No, go ahead, can I tell you?
- 30:50Speaker 3: My boyfriend and I we send that gift of my boyfriend.
- 30:55Speaker 3: I were trying to see a movie and I was like,
- 30:57Speaker 3: can we pick up takeout? Uh fast enough but for
- 31:00Speaker 3: the movie. And then he sent the gift of your
- 31:03Speaker 3: the dog lawyer saying I think we could do this.
- 31:06Speaker 3: When he wrote it on the whiteboard.
- 31:07Speaker 4: Let's I don't quite get what you're saying.
- 31:11Speaker 2: No, it's I get what you're saying. So it's one
- 31:13Speaker 2: of those No, it's one of those gifts. Maybe you're
- 31:15Speaker 2: not online.
- 31:16Speaker 4: What's a gift?
- 31:16Speaker 2: So a GIF is sort of a moving picture, not
- 31:20Speaker 2: almost like a movie, so halfway in between a photo
- 31:26Speaker 2: and a video.
- 31:28Speaker 5: So it's kind of like Harry Potter. Newspapers and people.
- 31:32Speaker 2: Will you use them to react to certain images so
- 31:35Speaker 2: or certain life situations to get them?
- 31:38Speaker 6: Do?
- 31:38Speaker 1: They sell them so online? And you can also actually
- 31:42Speaker 1: make one for yourself.
- 31:43Speaker 4: Really yeah, I could make one.
- 31:45Speaker 1: You could make one.
- 31:46Speaker 2: And they use your movies so much, I think we
- 31:50Speaker 2: can do it is a really common Oh yeah, I
- 31:53Speaker 2: gotta I.
- 31:53Speaker 4: Got to call my agents. I don't know.
- 31:55Speaker 7: You can't make money?
- 31:56Speaker 4: No, no, no, no, why not? They're using my stuff?
- 32:00Speaker 7: Well, gift residuals should be a thing.
- 32:03Speaker 1: They should be. But you know, we'll have to do
- 32:05Speaker 1: the world is really hard on internet creators right now.
- 32:08Speaker 5: Yeahs so hard, so hard.
- 32:12Speaker 4: I want to talk about how you're casting your dog's dogs?
- 32:16Speaker 5: Yes, that is yeah work.
- 32:19Speaker 2: So it is a lot of chemistry reads between the
- 32:22Speaker 2: dogs together. I have to see can the dog carry
- 32:27Speaker 2: the other dog on a leash in a way that
- 32:30Speaker 2: is convincing, in a way that looks like this dog
- 32:32Speaker 2: is owned by this dog. A lot of times if
- 32:35Speaker 2: I bring in you know, I'll bring in like a
- 32:38Speaker 2: pug to be the owner of a Chihuahua, and it'll
- 32:41Speaker 2: walk around with its leash in its mouth, and I
- 32:43Speaker 2: have a walk around the room.
- 32:45Speaker 1: But sometimes what will.
- 32:46Speaker 2: Happen is there's a power dynamic that switches where the
- 32:50Speaker 2: dog being walked thinks it's the one walking the other dog.
- 32:54Speaker 2: And so there has to be a very clear dominant
- 32:57Speaker 2: submissive relationship so that the dogs understand. Okay, no, do
- 33:02Speaker 2: you remember in the previous scene where I had you
- 33:06Speaker 2: walk up to the ASPCA receptionist and I had you say,
- 33:10Speaker 2: in human words, can I adopt a dog today?
- 33:13Speaker 1: And you had to wait for the receptionist to go away.
- 33:15Speaker 1: Do you remember that? And then she came back with
- 33:17Speaker 1: a cup of coffee And then she came back.
- 33:19Speaker 5: And she gave you the paperwork and what you're saying
- 33:21Speaker 5: to the dog?
- 33:22Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I said, And then you waited for fifteen
- 33:25Speaker 2: minutes and then said I'll check.
- 33:26Speaker 1: Your identification and then she went into the other room.
- 33:28Speaker 2: She photocopied it and she said this will take about
- 33:31Speaker 2: twenty four to forty eight hours to process.
- 33:33Speaker 1: And I said, do you remember that? And if they
- 33:35Speaker 1: can't remember that, then it's just not going to work.
- 33:38Speaker 7: How do you how do you how do you have
- 33:40Speaker 7: that conversation with the dog?
- 33:42Speaker 2: Well, so I sit him down and I say, do
- 33:45Speaker 2: you remember when we went into the ASPCA?
- 33:47Speaker 6: You say exactly that, don't you?
- 33:51Speaker 5: You say exactly that?
- 33:52Speaker 2: Well, yeah, I paint a picture for him, because sometimes,
- 33:55Speaker 2: you know, a dog, their brain's not quite as big.
- 33:57Speaker 2: They don't like if I tell you. Do you remember
- 34:00Speaker 2: what you when you went to the store the other day?
- 34:02Speaker 2: You remember how you walked up to the cashier and
- 34:05Speaker 2: you said, I can't find the lemons?
- 34:06Speaker 1: Where the lemons? And then she said, why don't you
- 34:08Speaker 1: go over here?
- 34:09Speaker 5: And how do you know that? How do you know
- 34:11Speaker 5: I did that?
- 34:12Speaker 2: Well, well, I mean I don't know. It's emanating off
- 34:16Speaker 2: your face. It's very clear. And then she helped you
- 34:19Speaker 2: with the lemons. And then you said, oh, this is
- 34:20Speaker 2: actually a pretty good deal. Four for three dollars. That's
- 34:24Speaker 2: not a bad deal on lemons.
- 34:25Speaker 7: A good lemon deal.
- 34:26Speaker 5: That's exactly what I wore.
- 34:27Speaker 4: Three that's under a dollar each.
- 34:32Speaker 7: That's a hot lemon deal.
- 34:33Speaker 1: And that's why you thought it was a good deal.
- 34:35Speaker 2: Then you brought it back and then you struck up
- 34:37Speaker 2: a conversation, and then it turns out you both went
- 34:40Speaker 2: to the same high school and you might get drinks
- 34:42Speaker 2: later this week.
- 34:43Speaker 5: Exactly what happened emanating off my face.
- 34:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I read people really well.
- 34:47Speaker 4: I have a question for you about working with the ASPCA,
- 34:50Speaker 4: working in these shelters when you're shooting.
- 34:51Speaker 5: Yeah, let's just move on from that.
- 34:54Speaker 4: I just said. If we started talking about that, I
- 34:57Speaker 4: don't know. I don't I don't understand. I understand, I understand,
- 35:01Speaker 4: my brain won't be able to fathom it.
- 35:03Speaker 1: No, we should get off it.
- 35:10Speaker 4: Please go ahead, and then we can get back to
- 35:12Speaker 4: your pretty severe psychic abilities. Is is it weird we're
- 35:17Speaker 4: going into these shelters? Uh? Do you feel like you're being,
- 35:20Speaker 4: for lack of a better word, hounded by these immateure
- 35:24Speaker 4: dog actors trying to get discovered? Is it annoying for you?
- 35:27Speaker 1: You can't walk down these aisles.
- 35:29Speaker 2: I cannot walk down because all of these dogs are
- 35:33Speaker 2: saying whoof, woof, whoff?
- 35:34Speaker 1: Notice me, notice me, notice me. I'm like, quit auditioning.
- 35:38Speaker 1: My god, It's like it's you know, it's desperate.
- 35:41Speaker 4: Yea, you have to.
- 35:42Speaker 2: And this is why it's so important to go through reps,
- 35:45Speaker 2: because you get dogs who are not gonna be scratching
- 35:49Speaker 2: at the cage, ready to get out.
- 35:51Speaker 4: I hate that. I hate walking down the street and
- 35:53Speaker 4: a dog rolls over for me tricks like it's just
- 35:55Speaker 4: doing tricks.
- 35:56Speaker 1: It's like, oh, you just happen to be doing that.
- 35:58Speaker 7: Imagine me if I imagine me if the amount of
- 36:03Speaker 7: dogs that play dead for me, Oh my god.
- 36:06Speaker 5: God funnily enough doesn't happen to me a lot that?
- 36:11Speaker 7: Oh you know, do you guys?
- 36:14Speaker 1: So I would like to find dogs are not Christian
- 36:17Speaker 1: these days?
- 36:18Speaker 6: What do you think the problem is? It is for me,
- 36:20Speaker 6: dogs have lost faith. Dogs have completely lost faith. It's
- 36:23Speaker 6: tough to see this new generation of dogs are not
- 36:27Speaker 6: going to church. They're not showing up. They're not they're
- 36:30Speaker 6: not coming, not like the old generation of dogs who
- 36:33Speaker 6: were there on Sundays.
- 36:36Speaker 1: My grandma used to.
- 36:36Speaker 2: Talk about a chapel full of barks. She couldn't even
- 36:40Speaker 2: hear the sermon because.
- 36:44Speaker 6: Part of the film too was reintroducing telling dogs they
- 36:48Speaker 6: can come back, They're welcome.
- 36:49Speaker 5: There are roles for you.
- 36:51Speaker 6: You know, Australian shepherds are going to be such good
- 36:54Speaker 6: Roman guards. They are going to guard the sarcophagus of
- 36:57Speaker 6: Jesus like they like they are supposed to.
- 37:00Speaker 7: You know, Australian shepherds are believers.
- 37:02Speaker 4: Yeah, shepherds in the title.
- 37:04Speaker 5: Yeah, exactly.
- 37:05Speaker 7: Can you guys go to parks anymore? I can't walk
- 37:07Speaker 7: into a park.
- 37:08Speaker 1: No, no, I can't think about what.
- 37:09Speaker 7: We're not getting hounded.
- 37:10Speaker 1: I just it's it's yeah, I can't think about work parks.
- 37:14Speaker 4: I can't go down to the dog food aisle. Do
- 37:16Speaker 4: you guys have dogs at home?
- 37:18Speaker 2: No?
- 37:19Speaker 4: Only cats?
- 37:19Speaker 5: Absolutely not.
- 37:22Speaker 4: I have a lizard bearded dragon, that's a pet.
- 37:28Speaker 1: I have a bit of fish.
- 37:29Speaker 7: Oh yeah, I have a cat with one leg.
- 37:35Speaker 6: Okay, okay, Well, you know what's interesting is the more
- 37:39Speaker 6: and more this episode goes on.
- 37:41Speaker 5: I'm realizing something. What Glenn Army very very specific about
- 37:46Speaker 5: our conversation.
- 37:47Speaker 1: Mister Army, go ahead, Well I don't know if.
- 37:50Speaker 6: You guys have armies, But does this conversation, this whole
- 37:53Speaker 6: day kind of feel like we're just lightly skidding around
- 37:56Speaker 6: the idea of eugenics, just slightly kidding around the idea
- 38:03Speaker 6: of eugenics with dogs, like trying to create the best
- 38:06Speaker 6: breed of dog?
- 38:06Speaker 5: What is the best breed? Don't work with dogs at
- 38:09Speaker 5: the pound.
- 38:09Speaker 6: You know, it's just It's just interesting to me that
- 38:11Speaker 6: this whole episode we've kind of been skinning and scurrying
- 38:14Speaker 6: around this whole idea of eugenics.
- 38:16Speaker 1: But you know, I guess that's something we could talk about.
- 38:22Speaker 4: So you're psychic, So I'm psychic.
- 38:27Speaker 1: Well, I'm always.
- 38:28Speaker 2: Psychic when I encounter certain people. I would say I
- 38:33Speaker 2: am psychic when it comes to filmmakers, I disrespect.
- 38:42Speaker 3: Do you ever feel like you know how your movie's
- 38:44Speaker 3: gonna do before it hits? Like, let's talk about box
- 38:46Speaker 3: office numbers, right, yeah? Yeah, because I feel like we
- 38:51Speaker 3: are used a lot with these big studios. I mean,
- 38:53Speaker 3: I have a movie coming out either Christmas Day, Thanksgiving Day.
- 38:56Speaker 3: I'm like, guys, can't we just have it come out
- 38:58Speaker 3: on a normal part of the year.
- 39:00Speaker 2: People have this obsession with dog movies.
- 39:03Speaker 1: They think they're family movies.
- 39:05Speaker 2: They think they're you know, it's something that's gonna pull
- 39:07Speaker 2: on the heartstrings, so they really want them to come
- 39:10Speaker 2: out around the holidays. Do you guys ever get pressured
- 39:12Speaker 2: to put Christmas trees in the back of scenes just
- 39:15Speaker 2: to give it that feel, just to pluw them in.
- 39:18Speaker 2: And I'm like, my movie, A Dog Searching is not
- 39:23Speaker 2: about Christmas. It very specifically takes place in July, and
- 39:26Speaker 2: that's a very important plot point because one of the
- 39:29Speaker 2: dogs loses his dog at a public pool. You wouldn't
- 39:33Speaker 2: be at a public pool on Christmas Day.
- 39:38Speaker 1: You wouldn't be there.
- 39:39Speaker 7: Oh, don't get me started.
- 39:41Speaker 2: And that's a conversation I've had with executives nat nauseum.
- 39:46Speaker 1: I want to throw up the amount of times I've
- 39:48Speaker 1: had to say this.
- 39:49Speaker 3: The amount of times I'm at Video Village and we're
- 39:51Speaker 3: working and we got a good vibe going, and then
- 39:54Speaker 3: I see a Warner Brothers exec wave his hand at me,
- 39:57Speaker 3: and I go, if you're about to tell me the
- 39:59Speaker 3: Gerard Butler needs to put a Santa hat on this lap,
- 40:03Speaker 3: or God forbid. The amount of times I'm told when
- 40:07Speaker 3: the dog is at the dog hospital connected and we
- 40:09Speaker 3: have the beep, beep beep, they go, can we put
- 40:12Speaker 3: a Christmas tree back there? At the Veterinarian Clanic.
- 40:16Speaker 4: They made me turn working like a dog mall employee
- 40:22Speaker 4: into working like a dog Santa Claus. And honestly, when
- 40:26Speaker 4: I tell you, that was the most soul sucking movie
- 40:28Speaker 4: I've ever made in my life. This wasn't working like
- 40:30Speaker 4: a dog lawyer. This wasn't working like a dog doctor.
- 40:32Speaker 4: This wasn't working like a dog tour guide in Hollywood.
- 40:35Speaker 4: This was working like a dog Santa Claus and I
- 40:38Speaker 4: literally wanted to end my own life. I hated it.
- 40:41Speaker 4: I hated it.
- 40:42Speaker 6: They forced me when Jesus dog is curing the blind
- 40:46Speaker 6: child to make him visible again a puppy. They made
- 40:50Speaker 6: me cover that set with Christmas tree.
- 40:52Speaker 1: Yeah, so yours makes sense that they would want to
- 40:54Speaker 1: How does that make sense?
- 40:55Speaker 6: Okay, I was just wondering, chausse It's Christian, so this
- 40:57Speaker 6: is the thing, though, this is the thing. It's just
- 41:00Speaker 6: it's like we are being attacked from the inside. You know,
- 41:03Speaker 6: our dogs are being attacked and our people are being attacked.
- 41:06Speaker 2: So can you confirm the existence of working like a
- 41:10Speaker 2: dog gig worker?
- 41:12Speaker 4: Yes, I can confirm the existence. It exists as a script.
- 41:17Speaker 4: It doesn't exist as a movie.
- 41:18Speaker 5: Okay, it's out there.
- 41:20Speaker 4: Nobody wants to make it because it's a little too insider.
- 41:23Speaker 4: But it's cool. It's it's mostly uh, it's mostly my
- 41:26Speaker 4: dog Chubby playing goofy, filling out ten ninety nines and
- 41:31Speaker 4: driving Ubers, driving Ubers Postmates.
- 41:34Speaker 5: Oh my gosh, do they do wag?
- 41:35Speaker 4: They do wag and I do. That's a little like you,
- 41:38Speaker 4: because that's a dog, that's a dog walking a dog.
- 41:40Speaker 1: That is a dog walking a dog. And I was
- 41:42Speaker 1: I was hoping.
- 41:43Speaker 2: I was hoping that I wouldn't be the only one
- 41:45Speaker 2: in this game who's saving who's talking about dog ownership.
- 41:49Speaker 1: It's it's really exciting to see.
- 41:51Speaker 6: I was.
- 41:52Speaker 5: I was hoping.
- 41:53Speaker 3: I've had a dog walk the spirit of an old dog.
- 41:56Speaker 3: You and a dog walk the spirit of an oldld dog.
- 41:58Speaker 3: So it was a dog walking in dog, but the
- 42:00Speaker 3: dog was had died.
- 42:03Speaker 2: And was the dog physically dead? Was it being pushed
- 42:05Speaker 2: along or was it.
- 42:07Speaker 7: We shot it both ways. We shot it both ways.
- 42:10Speaker 3: It's good to have it both way, Yes, especially when
- 42:13Speaker 3: you were you have to just go for another one
- 42:16Speaker 3: just in case you never know.
- 42:18Speaker 6: I yeah, I had a lot of dogs walking actually
- 42:20Speaker 6: Jesus Christ dog to the actual crucifixion.
- 42:23Speaker 5: So that was powerful scene.
- 42:25Speaker 4: We got to wrap up. Is if anybody wants to
- 42:27Speaker 4: say one quick thing to camera, maybe the young dogs
- 42:30Speaker 4: out there hoping to get into the industry. You can
- 42:32Speaker 4: speak in human or you can speak to the dogs.
- 42:33Speaker 5: What you want.
- 42:35Speaker 1: First I just want to say out there. I know
- 42:40Speaker 1: I talked a lot about.
- 42:42Speaker 2: Mistakes that young dogs make when they're meeting with someone
- 42:46Speaker 2: like me. But if I had to say anything, it's
- 42:49Speaker 2: just be yourself. You know, don't bark when you're the
- 42:52Speaker 2: kind of dog who woolfs, don't yap when you're the
- 42:55Speaker 2: kind of dog who bites.
- 42:58Speaker 1: So just be yourlf. And for the pugs out there, well, I'll.
- 43:06Speaker 7: Say for me on behalf of my work and my
- 43:09Speaker 7: body of work.
- 43:10Speaker 3: I want to address that voyage La article about me,
- 43:16Speaker 3: and I want to address that article because I don't
- 43:19Speaker 3: like dog death.
- 43:20Speaker 6: I like.
- 43:22Speaker 3: What sadness and the passing of one does to know
- 43:28Speaker 3: what they meant. So that article saying that I monopolize
- 43:33Speaker 3: on dog death is not I want to turn that around.
- 43:37Speaker 2: I love so to clarify for everyone, voyage La is
- 43:41Speaker 2: an article that you write yourself and that is published
- 43:46Speaker 2: on my voyage La. So some voyage would have had
- 43:50Speaker 2: to contact you, you would have had to put that
- 43:51Speaker 2: information out there.
- 43:53Speaker 7: They wrote it. They wrote it.
- 43:55Speaker 2: You're the first person in history where voyage La has
- 44:00Speaker 2: written an article about without unprompted.
- 44:03Speaker 4: In the storied history of voyage La.
- 44:06Speaker 1: I mean something everyone knows about.
- 44:08Speaker 3: Why would I reach out to a publication and ask
- 44:11Speaker 3: them to write it for me?
- 44:15Speaker 7: I don't know anyway.
- 44:16Speaker 5: Thank you, Bark be with you.
- 44:20Speaker 4: This has been Artists on artists and artists on artists
- 44:22Speaker 4: answering the question on that's why they call it show business?
- 44:25Speaker 2: And if you are a dog interested in adopting another dog,
- 44:28Speaker 2: please contact the ASPCA.
- 44:30Speaker 1: Thank you so much.
- 44:31Speaker 4: Good night Hollywood.
