Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:04Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus, powered by Seahawks dot Com.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Now here's your host, NASA Chobie.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Welcome into another edition of Hawk Talk. The Seahawks get
- 0:14Speaker 1: it done in dominating fashion twenty six nothing beating the
- 0:18Speaker 1: Minnesota Vikings at Loominfield. Bump, it was all about the
- 0:21Speaker 1: Seahawks defense on Sunday, a style nobody wants to play through,
- 0:25Speaker 1: not around, decisive, relentless, shocking. Mike McDonald preaches that every
- 0:29Speaker 1: single week. I like to repeat those because we keep
- 0:31Speaker 1: seeing each and every week, Bump, And I don't care
- 0:33Speaker 1: who you are. When you shut a team out in
- 0:35Speaker 1: the National Football League, you're doing something.
- 0:36Speaker 3: You shut a team out WIAA high school football, you
- 0:40Speaker 3: have having a day, let alone the NFL. First time,
- 0:43Speaker 3: this is what two thousand and seven that the vik
- 0:45Speaker 3: has been shut out. First shutout for this defense is
- 0:46Speaker 3: twenty fifteen. Good day for the defense.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Yeah and yes it was the most pretty game. Offensively,
- 0:51Speaker 1: who cares? This team is nine to three, time for
- 0:53Speaker 1: the best record in the NFC. And again defensively, five takeaways,
- 0:57Speaker 1: four sacks, first time since Baltimore and twenty seventeen when
- 1:00Speaker 1: a team had a five takeaways, four sacks in a
- 1:03Speaker 1: shutout in the same game. This defense was bad, and
- 1:05Speaker 1: let's jump right into it.
- 1:06Speaker 4: What did happened? See what had happened was what had
- 1:11Speaker 4: happened at first was what had happened was on Hawk Talk.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Well, we talked about this a little bit in the
- 1:16Speaker 1: postgame show. The Seahawks have found different ways to win
- 1:19Speaker 1: football games, and I think you brought this up where
- 1:22Speaker 1: this is the first time all year, I think where
- 1:23Speaker 1: they have solely really relied on the defense to get
- 1:26Speaker 1: this team completely jump started.
- 1:27Speaker 4: They took control.
- 1:28Speaker 1: They've won in blowouts, they've won with special teams like
- 1:31Speaker 1: in New Orleans, make it a ton of plays. This
- 1:33Speaker 1: was on the defense and they came after it. They
- 1:35Speaker 1: were absolutely amazing. The game started off with five straight punts.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Both defenses were cooking. Minnesota also came to play defensively
- 1:41Speaker 1: as well, getting that a little bit lots of pressure
- 1:43Speaker 1: causing all kinds of problems. The Seahawks got on the
- 1:46Speaker 1: board first with a fifteen play fifty three yard drive
- 1:48Speaker 1: which ended with a thirty three yard field goal from
- 1:50Speaker 1: Jason Myers that made the score three to nothing. That
- 1:53Speaker 1: was kind of head up set up by Cody Whiteman.
- 1:54Speaker 1: The big time put a one yard reception.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Cody white big els Cody white Man twenty one yard reception.
- 1:59Speaker 3: On the next drive, the Hawks would force a punt
- 2:02Speaker 3: out to four plays, but then disaster would strike. On
- 2:04Speaker 3: first and ten from the Seahawks twenty two yard like
- 2:06Speaker 3: Sam Darner was hit from the blind side from Dallas Turner.
- 2:09Speaker 3: He fumbled the rocket was covered by the Vikers in
- 2:11Speaker 3: a thirteen yard line, but the Seahawks defense would come
- 2:13Speaker 3: up big four plays later when DeMarcus Lawrence with pressure
- 2:16Speaker 3: the young man Max Welcome to the NFL, Max, Yeah,
- 2:18Speaker 3: forcing him to make a horrible decision on fourth down,
- 2:20Speaker 3: like what what are you doing?
- 2:21Speaker 5: Just take the sack, throw it away, tosses.
- 2:23Speaker 3: It up one hand, and our guy, Ernest Jones to
- 2:26Speaker 3: the house eighty five yards, his first touchdown in the NFL,
- 2:30Speaker 3: in his first pick of the day.
- 2:32Speaker 1: At Ernest were talking about him. He had an absolute day.
- 2:34Speaker 1: We're gonna break the play. Just talked about down a
- 2:36Speaker 1: little bit in the plays of the game. After that,
- 2:38Speaker 1: the Seahawks would force another punt on the next drive.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Seahawks will take advantage of a goodield position, they would
- 2:42Speaker 1: kick another field goal. Big theme with that in this game.
- 2:44Speaker 1: With eight seconds left, Seahawks going to the locker room
- 2:47Speaker 1: up thirteen to nothing. You feel good at that point. Yeah,
- 2:49Speaker 1: Minnesota is proven. They cannot do anything offensively. They cannot
- 2:52Speaker 1: move the football. Seahawks offense wasn't flashing on all cylinders,
- 2:56Speaker 1: you know, but they were still moving the football. Third
- 2:59Speaker 1: quarter was dominant by the Seahawks, even though it wasn't
- 3:01Speaker 1: necessarily in the score. They only kicked two field goals
- 3:04Speaker 1: in that quarter. About the Hawks at an eight play
- 3:06Speaker 1: forty four yard drive with a fifty four yard field
- 3:08Speaker 1: goal by Jason Myers that made it sixteen zero. Then
- 3:11Speaker 1: the Vikings next drive, Seahawks will get a huge play
- 3:13Speaker 1: from Marcus Owns again forcing a funball on Aaron Jones,
- 3:15Speaker 1: which were recovered by Tyo Katta tay Ookata.
- 3:18Speaker 3: It was nice see him out there. We were skeptical
- 3:20Speaker 3: if he was going to play now with that old league,
- 3:21Speaker 3: but he did a say. The Seahawks will get three
- 3:23Speaker 3: points off that turnover. Going nine plays forty se yards
- 3:25Speaker 3: in with a forty yard figure goal for Myers that
- 3:27Speaker 3: will make the score at nineteen zero. Then Kobe Bryan
- 3:30Speaker 3: Ernest Jones will get interceptions on the next two Viking possessions.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Love to see Kobe Bryant making plays as usual, and
- 3:37Speaker 3: then Ernest Jones once again second ty for second in
- 3:39Speaker 3: the league when it comes inter sessions at linebacker's that's wild.
- 3:43Speaker 4: Love what he's doing there.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Seahawks take advantage six plays, thirty two yards, seventeen yard touchdowns,
- 3:47Speaker 1: Zach Sharbonney making twenty six and nothing.
- 3:49Speaker 4: That was the end.
- 3:50Speaker 1: That will do it for the Seahawks. And I love
- 3:53Speaker 1: that you mentioned. You know, Kobe Bryant making plays. Drake
- 3:56Speaker 1: Thomas had another play. He set ten TFLs on the season.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Everyone on the defense is balling out. They're all part
- 4:01Speaker 1: of it. Seahawks win the turnover battle five to two.
- 4:03Speaker 1: They outgained the Vikings two nineteen to one sixty two.
- 4:06Speaker 1: So not a high yardage day offensively, one time in
- 4:08Speaker 1: possession and they were on fire. Four interceptions, four sacks,
- 4:11Speaker 1: seven QB hits. It was a belts to you know what.
- 4:14Speaker 1: On Sunday, Max Brosmer, he had one hundred twenty six
- 4:17Speaker 1: stars passing one hundred and twenty one yards, four interceptions.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Now if the Seahawks defense were quarterback and they had
- 4:23Speaker 1: four completions for one hundred and twenty one yards and
- 4:25Speaker 1: a touchdown on thirty attempts, they would have had a
- 4:28Speaker 1: better passer rating fifty five than Brossler's actual passer rating
- 4:32Speaker 1: of thirty two.
- 4:33Speaker 5: Poor guy. I mean, he's a rookie. He's a rookie.
- 4:36Speaker 1: We said it coming in in the preview podcast. If
- 4:39Speaker 1: you are someone in your rookie coming into Lumenfield in
- 4:42Speaker 1: your first start against that defense, that defensive line, it's
- 4:45Speaker 1: been a huge topic of conversation. This might be the
- 4:47Speaker 1: best defensive line in the Seahawks history and a team
- 4:49Speaker 1: that's had a ton of great defensive lines, that's your
- 4:52Speaker 1: first start.
- 4:52Speaker 4: Man, God bless you.
- 4:53Speaker 3: I mean after his interception, the coaches weren't even mad
- 4:58Speaker 3: after the first one, awa on patam On back to like,
- 5:00Speaker 3: we know what we're in we're getting into and Kevin
- 5:02Speaker 3: O'Connell has to know the quarterback whisper has to know
- 5:05Speaker 3: that Max is he wasn't ready for that defense.
- 5:07Speaker 1: No, and it was. It was a tough day out.
- 5:09Speaker 1: I mean, wow, that's one of those you turn on
- 5:12Speaker 1: the film. We're gonna go ahead and not watch this
- 5:13Speaker 1: one deleted on to the next ye on to the
- 5:15Speaker 1: next Bump. It was a beat down, obviously, But what
- 5:18Speaker 1: you learn from this game from a Seahawks perspective, I.
- 5:20Speaker 3: Think we touched on it already that they can win
- 5:21Speaker 3: in different ways. We've seen the offense be explosive. We've
- 5:24Speaker 3: seen the offense and the defense get it done. We've
- 5:25Speaker 3: seen special teams be on point. Yesterday was a testament
- 5:29Speaker 3: to that two four four when it comes to to Myers.
- 5:31Speaker 3: But you just gotta win, just win ball games. They
- 5:34Speaker 3: did it in a different way. This defense. I was
- 5:36Speaker 3: looking up the stats obviously, and it's weird to not
- 5:40Speaker 3: see this defense top five when it comes to total
- 5:42Speaker 3: yards giving up right, because they feel like a top
- 5:44Speaker 3: three type of defense.
- 5:45Speaker 5: But they've shown that this defense is ready to go.
- 5:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:48Speaker 1: I think the defensive numbers will help after Sunday again
- 5:50Speaker 1: and try to get back in the top five. But
- 5:52Speaker 1: what I learned, Bump is that when you look at
- 5:55Speaker 1: this team, I like the adjustments. While the offense didn't
- 5:57Speaker 1: play their best game of the season, we know that
- 5:59Speaker 1: they've had games they scored on every single possession. I
- 6:02Speaker 1: liked how they came out of halftime because in the
- 6:03Speaker 1: second half they were able to run the football.
- 6:05Speaker 4: They got a couple of field goal drives.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Sharpennay with that touchdown drive, so wild Minnesota was causing
- 6:09Speaker 1: all kinds of havoc. Blitz Sam Darnold the most he's
- 6:11Speaker 1: ever been blitzed in his career. I believe it was
- 6:13Speaker 1: sixty three percent according to Next ten Stats. To come
- 6:16Speaker 1: out there and still take care of business second half,
- 6:18Speaker 1: I love it. And it's like in baseball, right if
- 6:20Speaker 1: you don't have your fastball, you're still in your starting pitcher,
- 6:22Speaker 1: you're the ace. You still got to find a way
- 6:23Speaker 1: to go five innings, give your team a chance to
- 6:25Speaker 1: win that ball game.
- 6:26Speaker 4: That's what the Seahawks offense did and it was cool
- 6:28Speaker 4: to see.
- 6:29Speaker 1: But let's get into playmakers because that was happening all
- 6:32Speaker 1: over the field.
- 6:34Speaker 5: Touchop playmakers to them?
- 6:40Speaker 2: What time it is?
- 6:41Speaker 4: Hoa Ernest Jones bump? Are you kidding me?
- 6:45Speaker 5: Come on now.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Ernest led the Seahawks with twelve tackles, two interceptions, two
- 6:49Speaker 1: passes defended, eighty five yard pick six, third longest in
- 6:52Speaker 1: the NFL this season, first career touchdown, team leading five interceptions,
- 6:56Speaker 1: second in the national Football League. We've talked about how
- 6:58Speaker 1: much or a leader he is, but when your leader
- 7:00Speaker 1: is also one of your best players, man, it is
- 7:02Speaker 1: it's hard not to follow that man and run through
- 7:04Speaker 1: a wall for him.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Man, Ernest step into the podium last week, had Sam
- 7:09Speaker 3: Donald's back, and then back up his play this weekend,
- 7:11Speaker 3: and it was It's cool to see thirteen out there
- 7:13Speaker 3: doing his thing. He has an old soul. He got
- 7:16Speaker 3: an old name, Ernest. You know, he got an old soul.
- 7:18Speaker 3: But he's young, and he's young. He what twenty six,
- 7:20Speaker 3: les just turned six? Twenty five up? Yeah, man, Ernest
- 7:23Speaker 3: is the clear cut leader. And this defense has several
- 7:26Speaker 3: leaders every level. I think they have a leader Jay
- 7:29Speaker 3: Leve in the back end, Earn a second level, then
- 7:31Speaker 3: Leo on that defensive line.
- 7:32Speaker 5: But he's running the show man. It's fun to watch
- 7:34Speaker 5: him play.
- 7:35Speaker 3: And uh probably one of the more underappreciated signings this
- 7:39Speaker 3: offseason in the NFL's DeMarcus Lawrens.
- 7:42Speaker 5: Two sacks, one U, one TfL two quarterback kids.
- 7:45Speaker 3: It calls that eighty five yard picks is for Ernest
- 7:48Speaker 3: dragging Max down to the ground, pulling him by his arm.
- 7:50Speaker 3: I watched him play and he doesn't move like a
- 7:52Speaker 3: twelve year veteran. He's moving like this is his third
- 7:55Speaker 3: or fourth year in the league.
- 7:56Speaker 1: I wasn't exactly sure. I knew he could still play
- 7:58Speaker 1: when the Seahawks acquired him, and I remember medium in
- 8:01Speaker 1: the first ay who's here at the vMac. But he
- 8:03Speaker 1: is absolutely blown expectations out of the water. Because I
- 8:06Speaker 1: remember it was back when we lost to the Seahawks,
- 8:08Speaker 1: lost to the Buccaneers earlier this year. We really that
- 8:11Speaker 1: was the first time We're like, oh wow, we felt
- 8:13Speaker 1: his absence out there. He brings it each and every
- 8:15Speaker 1: week and he's such an important piece from his play
- 8:18Speaker 1: on the field to his leadership. He's a dog. The
- 8:20Speaker 1: way the guys respect him on the field level. We're
- 8:21Speaker 1: seeing from DeMarcus Lawrence as he continues to show. But yeah,
- 8:25Speaker 1: I might be an older guy out there about I
- 8:26Speaker 1: don't play like it, Yeah for sure. Byron Murphy, he
- 8:30Speaker 1: we talked about sophomore jumps. He has been absolutely consistent
- 8:33Speaker 1: each and every week. Three tackles, one SAD, one QB
- 8:35Speaker 1: hit and we were talking. I think you brought this
- 8:37Speaker 1: up on your show today. We interviewed Quinn Mohanna on
- 8:40Speaker 1: the huddle, he talked about he was the best in
- 8:42Speaker 1: the middle. Yeah, straight up, straight up, and he's been
- 8:45Speaker 1: playing like that all year.
- 8:46Speaker 3: And the way he's moving like he's adding stuff to
- 8:49Speaker 3: his game. I know I shouldn't be surprised because it's
- 8:51Speaker 3: his second year, you should be getting better. But I
- 8:54Speaker 3: mean this, I want to talk to his trainer, like,
- 8:56Speaker 3: who have you been working with? Because last year it
- 8:58Speaker 3: was just the bull rush, right, gonna take on this
- 9:00Speaker 3: double team to be good. He's setting guys up with
- 9:03Speaker 3: his movement, his shoulders, his hands. Byron Murphy less good.
- 9:06Speaker 3: He is the best a gap defender and you team
- 9:07Speaker 3: him up with Leo, that has to be the best
- 9:09Speaker 3: combo when you talk about in tier defensive linean in
- 9:12Speaker 3: THET Murphy got that dad strength. I think that's what
- 9:14Speaker 3: it was. Right, I had a baby girl. Now he's
- 9:16Speaker 3: good to go. Drake Thomas maybe the biggest surprise on
- 9:19Speaker 3: the defense this year. Five tackles, half sack, one CFL,
- 9:23Speaker 3: two quarterback hits, ten TFLs on the season. Drake Thomas
- 9:28Speaker 3: plays like he's an underdog because that's exactly what he is.
- 9:31Speaker 5: He's out there just thriving.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Though he also doesn't play like his size. He's talked
- 9:35Speaker 1: about it throughout the season. No one said he could
- 9:37Speaker 1: play inside linebacker the NFL. He's proven them wrong each
- 9:40Speaker 1: and every week. And there's at least one or two
- 9:42Speaker 1: plays where you're like, oh my goodness, a flash boom. Yeah,
- 9:44Speaker 1: when Drake just like Spoon, you wouldn't think I'd be
- 9:47Speaker 1: comparing those two, right, but when they pull the trigger
- 9:50Speaker 1: and go, it's right now. He's made unbelievable collisions, big
- 9:53Speaker 1: hits in the backfield. I mean, to be an off
- 9:55Speaker 1: ball defender and have that many tackle for losses, he's
- 9:57Speaker 1: obviously doing something good.
- 9:58Speaker 3: I feel like if Mike McDonald worre football player, he'd
- 10:00Speaker 3: beat Drake Thomas.
- 10:01Speaker 4: Yeah, I can see that.
- 10:02Speaker 5: Uh huh.
- 10:03Speaker 1: And just not taking nothing from nobody, but letting everybody. Yeah, No,
- 10:06Speaker 1: I love that you mentioned Leonard Williams.
- 10:09Speaker 4: We could.
- 10:09Speaker 1: I mean, we're a broken record at this point with
- 10:11Speaker 1: the consistency from this side of the football. Two tackles,
- 10:13Speaker 1: one sack, one TfL, one QB hit, and I get it.
- 10:16Speaker 1: There should be momentum why this could be the best
- 10:18Speaker 1: defensive line in Seahawk's history, let alone football today, because
- 10:22Speaker 1: it's the depth what was really good in twenty thirteen.
- 10:24Speaker 1: They called the NASCAR packages because you had Cliff April,
- 10:27Speaker 1: Michael Bennett coming off the bench, you had you know,
- 10:30Speaker 1: Clemmens and Red Brian, all those guys. Is because of
- 10:32Speaker 1: the depth, but made that group so special. Every single
- 10:35Speaker 1: person on this defensive line is killing it. Whether it's
- 10:37Speaker 1: Brandon Peely, you name it. And they might add Riley
- 10:39Speaker 1: Mills to this group. Goodness gracious. Oh and I forgot
- 10:42Speaker 1: Sharon Reed is not playing?
- 10:43Speaker 5: Are you kidding me?
- 10:44Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 10:45Speaker 4: It scary.
- 10:46Speaker 3: Ken Walker thirteen cares for fifty six, three receptions for
- 10:49Speaker 3: eighteen yards. Just steady. I think I've come to terms
- 10:52Speaker 3: of what this running game is going to be. Right,
- 10:54Speaker 3: It's gonna be a combination. You're gonna get some Zach
- 10:56Speaker 3: Sharbonne who had fourteen for fifty two in a touchdown.
- 10:58Speaker 3: You gotta get some kN Walker. Ken Walker's being more
- 11:00Speaker 3: involved in the pass game. Now he has a quiet
- 11:03Speaker 3: seven hundred yards this year too. Like ken Walker's having
- 11:06Speaker 3: us off a decent season.
- 11:07Speaker 4: Yeah, without question.
- 11:08Speaker 1: And his running back mate Zach s Charbonnay fourteen carries
- 11:11Speaker 1: fifty two yards one touchdown.
- 11:13Speaker 4: We know how good he is in the red zone.
- 11:14Speaker 4: They've shown that.
- 11:15Speaker 1: And you know, just because the running game is not
- 11:18Speaker 1: putting up amazing numbers does not mean they're not effective.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Right.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Ray brought this example up on the huddle a couple
- 11:23Speaker 1: of weeks ago. I forgot what it was talking about.
- 11:24Speaker 1: How the year the Colts won the Super Bowl, they
- 11:26Speaker 1: could not really run the ball all season, and they
- 11:28Speaker 1: have their best running games in the playoffs each and
- 11:30Speaker 1: every week. So I think at some point we will
- 11:32Speaker 1: see that performance just enough to keep teams honest. But
- 11:35Speaker 1: even if we don't, I think it's fine because they're
- 11:37Speaker 1: doing their job. They're part of this offense and things
- 11:39Speaker 1: are rolling in it.
- 11:40Speaker 3: Then we just last year we were just asking the
- 11:42Speaker 3: run game to be middle of the pack, and that's
- 11:44Speaker 3: what they are, and them being middle of the pack
- 11:46Speaker 3: allows everything else to open up. This is the first
- 11:48Speaker 3: week we did playmakers, no JSN on this thing. Still
- 11:51Speaker 3: got it done though.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Yeah, that's I mean, it almost feels like a type,
- 11:54Speaker 1: almost feel like you're doing wrong. He also set some
- 11:56Speaker 1: Seahawk records on Sunday. But yeah, Jaysn, I don't want
- 12:00Speaker 1: to call him human because you could talk about it.
- 12:03Speaker 4: You're a receiver. Sometimes you can do everything right and
- 12:05Speaker 4: not get the football.
- 12:06Speaker 5: Just be like that, Just be like that one is day.
- 12:08Speaker 5: But you know what, ninety three, that's what I mattered.
- 12:10Speaker 4: We'll take that receiver route up.
- 12:11Speaker 3: What you see, all right, we got an agent, not
- 12:12Speaker 3: a lot. You got aj Barner four for thirty five.
- 12:16Speaker 3: He got Cooper Cup three for twenty four. He had
- 12:18Speaker 3: a nice little run after the catch to start.
- 12:20Speaker 4: Yeah, juke somebody on.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Jason had two for twenty three, Cody White one big
- 12:24Speaker 3: one on third down, one for twenty one, Ken Walker
- 12:26Speaker 3: three for eighteen, Rashid and we still haven't seen Rashid
- 12:30Speaker 3: really get unlocked yet, neither him they had one for
- 12:32Speaker 3: seven or Royo didn't have a catch on two targets.
- 12:35Speaker 3: So there's still things to be seen with this team.
- 12:38Speaker 3: And I think that is what keeps me just optimistic.
- 12:41Speaker 3: I mean, obviously ninety three you gotta be optimistic, but
- 12:43Speaker 3: there's still some things they need to do.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Yeah, and not being one dimensional the way you win
- 12:47Speaker 1: football games, like we mentioned, whether it's offense, even special
- 12:50Speaker 1: teams doing it. Love what we're seeing diverse there, but
- 12:53Speaker 1: I'm excited for this to get to the plays of
- 12:55Speaker 1: the game.
- 12:55Speaker 4: Ernest Jones.
- 12:56Speaker 1: We talked about how instrumental he's been in to the
- 12:58Speaker 1: Seahawks since he walked in this lock room. Last season,
- 13:01Speaker 1: he had an eighty five yard pick six of Max Brosnan.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Jones stays in the backfield.
- 13:07Speaker 6: Fourth down and one at the Seattle four handoff, playfake
- 13:12Speaker 6: Brosno being chased.
- 13:13Speaker 2: Brother, it's gonna go down to the drows.
- 13:15Speaker 7: Get there, fifteen, coming back to your sad far side,
- 13:19Speaker 7: fifty down the forty being chased.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Twenty ten. HiT's Jones, who.
- 13:25Speaker 6: Is in a sentiment, gets full path of the here
- 13:28Speaker 6: and this one goes to the house.
- 13:32Speaker 2: From back near the ten yard line. Ernest Jones. It's
- 13:40Speaker 2: channel with the pressure.
- 13:42Speaker 7: Jones with a.
- 13:43Speaker 6: Pick six, and just like that, the rookie QBS gets war.
- 13:49Speaker 6: He is chased by Lawrence who makes what would have
- 13:54Speaker 6: been a great sack, but instead Brosber just tries.
- 13:57Speaker 2: To fling it. And there is Joe right there.
- 14:02Speaker 3: All right, So the design of this play isn't great
- 14:06Speaker 3: for the vikings, right, And I think you're dealing with
- 14:08Speaker 3: a rookie, a rookie quarterback. So he doesn't sell the
- 14:12Speaker 3: playfake the way you should. I think he's trying to
- 14:14Speaker 3: sell it to the full back. Therefore, that will entice
- 14:17Speaker 3: DeMarcus Lowres to bite down. It looks like he's he's
- 14:21Speaker 3: actually faking it to the to the running back. So
- 14:23Speaker 3: because his angle is improper, it doesn't entice DeMarcus Lawrence
- 14:27Speaker 3: to do anything but get up. Feel so welcome to
- 14:29Speaker 3: the NFL, rookie, you better do exactly what you're supposed
- 14:32Speaker 3: to do.
- 14:32Speaker 5: This is just DeMarcus Lawrence. They're trying to sell that
- 14:34Speaker 5: zone left.
- 14:35Speaker 3: You typically leave the n un block there to get
- 14:38Speaker 3: him to bite down so you can boot off of that.
- 14:39Speaker 3: That's what they do. The playfake. This isn't great. I
- 14:41Speaker 3: think the angles all jacked them. And DeMarcus Lawrence just
- 14:44Speaker 3: gets after that quarterback and is relentless. I mean he
- 14:46Speaker 3: would have. He almost pulled his arm out out of
- 14:49Speaker 3: the socket, you know what. I man like, he was
- 14:51Speaker 3: all over that man. And then this is just guys
- 14:53Speaker 3: flowing to space. You get to the right place at
- 14:56Speaker 3: the right time. Or de Jones picked that thing off
- 14:58Speaker 3: and let me pick ups. Ernest Jones that form his
- 15:00Speaker 3: own point. My man got the knees up, got the
- 15:02Speaker 3: nice arm pump looking good. Yeah no you you you
- 15:05Speaker 3: said it right off top.
- 15:06Speaker 1: The thing that got me was I said the exact
- 15:09Speaker 1: same thing I've written down here at the playfake. It's
- 15:10Speaker 1: a wordless play, fake because you do nothing to influence
- 15:13Speaker 1: the Marcus Lawrence, I think something got messed up. You're
- 15:15Speaker 1: right as well, because the full the other back is
- 15:17Speaker 1: nowhere near they're on the same level. There's no way
- 15:19Speaker 1: he can get the football there. The back isn't helping.
- 15:21Speaker 1: You're not influencing anyone in the secondary. So that's the starter.
- 15:24Speaker 1: And then Ernest Jones, we call it just finding work. Yep,
- 15:27Speaker 1: you find the work, you finish it. He talked about
- 15:28Speaker 1: how tired he was. Anyone who's ever been that situation knows,
- 15:31Speaker 1: so towards the end is when you get tired.
- 15:32Speaker 5: Oh yeah.
- 15:33Speaker 1: And then while we're giving casual shoutouts, if anyone wants
- 15:36Speaker 1: to know how fast requilling is, watch this play.
- 15:39Speaker 4: He looks like he's out for a.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Stroll and he he's like twenty yards not even in
- 15:43Speaker 1: the picture, and all of a sudden, who's escorting Ernest
- 15:46Speaker 1: Jones in the end zone recoling.
- 15:47Speaker 3: It's ridiculous. His stride, he gets about two strides every
- 15:50Speaker 3: five yards. It's ridiculous. Is a beast man.
- 15:54Speaker 1: And again though what I love I love seeing guys
- 15:56Speaker 1: run to celebrate, but it's also this defense is trained
- 15:59Speaker 1: get to the football, heeriot, Yeah, point blank gets to
- 16:01Speaker 1: the football when you runner the football.
- 16:03Speaker 4: Good thing happened.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Nice job Ernest Jones, DeMarcus Lawrence causing that pick six.
- 16:07Speaker 1: The next player looking at zach Scharbonay gets in the
- 16:09Speaker 1: end zone on a seventeen yard touchdown.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Hand off to Charbona on the left side. Two tight
- 16:14Speaker 2: end for lineup every breaks a tackle.
- 16:16Speaker 7: Ten touchdown Seahawks and so the Seahawks a seventeen yard touchdown,
- 16:27Speaker 7: make it.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Twenty five zip.
- 16:30Speaker 6: And the Seattle offense, I think here in this second half,
- 16:34Speaker 6: has finally gotten the best of a good Minnesota defense,
- 16:39Speaker 6: just battering them the eighth rushing touchdown of the season.
- 16:43Speaker 6: Both those tight ends got great blocks on the left side.
- 16:46Speaker 6: In Charbonay takes it in.
- 16:49Speaker 3: When you talk about outside zone, this is what Kobeak imagines.
- 16:52Speaker 5: I'm going to start from the right.
- 16:53Speaker 3: Sim you got Abe Lucas, And who's that sixty four?
- 16:57Speaker 3: Is that? That's Christiannane's Haines. Okay, Hans, I'll see your baby,
- 17:01Speaker 3: all right. You got a Blocus and Hanes, you got
- 17:03Speaker 3: the double team. You got Oulu climbing to that second level,
- 17:06Speaker 3: great angle on the backer. You get Zable doing just enough.
- 17:08Speaker 3: Sometimes you just got to do just enough with the
- 17:10Speaker 3: guy in front of you. He does, Zach, you got
- 17:12Speaker 3: cross climbing to that second level. But where this thing
- 17:15Speaker 3: pops the tight ends, you got aj Barner on the edge.
- 17:18Speaker 3: You got Cala rep who helps him out. And then
- 17:20Speaker 3: it gets to that dB Zach Sherburney follows, and let's
- 17:24Speaker 3: not sleep on Cooper Cup getting to his guy as well.
- 17:26Speaker 3: If you want these big runs, bodies on bodies and
- 17:30Speaker 3: let your running back do his thing.
- 17:32Speaker 1: There's almost never a big run by running back where
- 17:34Speaker 1: either tight end or receivers and blocking downfield.
- 17:36Speaker 4: Yeah, and you.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Love what you saw from Cali up and uh Barner
- 17:40Speaker 1: on the play side, and just Es Gordon bier Murphy
- 17:42Speaker 1: in Adianzo.
- 17:43Speaker 4: Yep, you're not gonna be a part of this play,
- 17:44Speaker 4: thank you very much. Get out of there.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Coopering up comes across and then I just love Also,
- 17:48Speaker 1: just a side note, the presence of JSN Harrison Smith.
- 17:51Speaker 4: I believe he stays on that side.
- 17:52Speaker 1: He barely even moves he doesn't go anywhere, and then
- 17:55Speaker 1: it's run away from me, okay, because it's like I'm
- 17:58Speaker 1: not gonna get bet by eleven on my side, but
- 18:00Speaker 1: just a great play. That's what the Seahawks want to do,
- 18:02Speaker 1: and it's finishing at the end of a game when
- 18:04Speaker 1: you need to. We want to run this clock out.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Leave no doubt love what we're seeing from this offense
- 18:09Speaker 1: and Clink coubeback. Even on a day where they didn't
- 18:11Speaker 1: have their fastball, they still were able to get it done,
- 18:14Speaker 1: finish it. Setting up our favorite formation, victory formation.
- 18:19Speaker 6: Here comes the Seahawks offense on to the field and
- 18:22Speaker 6: the Vikings defense trutching out there knowing that one kneel
- 18:27Speaker 6: down and the Seahawks are gonna line the clock down.
- 18:30Speaker 2: And win this one.
- 18:32Speaker 4: It's the victory formation on Hawk Talk.
- 18:34Speaker 1: We set it throughout the podcast today. The Seahawks can
- 18:37Speaker 1: win in a multitude of ways. Okay, they can win
- 18:39Speaker 1: an explosive offense, big plays on special teams, dominant defense. Sunday,
- 18:44Speaker 1: no question about it, it was about the defense. They were relentless.
- 18:46Speaker 1: First shutout Seahawks defense hats is twenty to fifteen. Also
- 18:49Speaker 1: against the Chicago Bears, and it was the first time
- 18:52Speaker 1: the Vikings missoutouts in two thousand and seven. You mentioned
- 18:54Speaker 1: it doesn't matter what level you play at, you're shutting
- 18:56Speaker 1: a team out in the Nation Football League.
- 18:57Speaker 4: Yeah, everyone on the Vikings gets paid. They get paid
- 19:00Speaker 4: this game.
- 19:00Speaker 1: That is their job to not allow him to score
- 19:02Speaker 1: one point, you know, field goal. Nothing shows you how
- 19:05Speaker 1: well this defensive played.
- 19:06Speaker 5: And playmakers on this defense.
- 19:08Speaker 3: Ernest Jones twelve tackles, twin exceptions eighty five yard pick
- 19:11Speaker 3: six at the house to get DeMarcus Lawrence. You got
- 19:14Speaker 3: big cat Byron Murphy, Drake Thomas, Chenn and Wolsu all
- 19:17Speaker 3: had at least a half sack. Kobe Bryan and Rigwooling
- 19:20Speaker 3: each had interceptions. I don't think Kobe Bryant gets the
- 19:23Speaker 3: love that he deserves on this team too, because and
- 19:26Speaker 3: it's almost a blessing because you got so many other
- 19:28Speaker 3: ballers on this defense that Kobe Bryant kind of gets
- 19:31Speaker 3: lost in the mix.
- 19:31Speaker 5: But nice to see him would have picked too.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Yeah, No, love what Kobe's doing. He's almost like what
- 19:36Speaker 1: kJ Wright was to the Legion to Boom.
- 19:38Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Absolutely, anyone looks at him, know, he's an absolute baller,
- 19:41Speaker 1: but he's not making the headlines because he's not one
- 19:43Speaker 1: of those other names. I love what we're seeing from Kobe.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Seahawks are standing there street to twenty one straight games
- 19:47Speaker 1: without allowing one hundred yard rusher. Offensively, Seahawks ran for
- 19:51Speaker 1: one hundred and twenty five yards in a touchdown from
- 19:52Speaker 1: sharber Day. But I said it before the game, Seahawks
- 19:55Speaker 1: didn't have their fastball on offense, but they found a
- 19:57Speaker 1: way to continue to put points on the board and
- 19:59Speaker 1: get the job done.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Yeah. Hawks approved to nine and three on the season.
- 20:02Speaker 3: The best starts is twenty nineteen. The Hawks also proved
- 20:05Speaker 3: to four and two at home, three wins in a row,
- 20:08Speaker 3: already have more home wins than all of last year.
- 20:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I kind of want to shot that up for
- 20:12Speaker 4: a quick second.
- 20:13Speaker 1: I mean, obviously the Seahawks, you know, Mike McDonald on
- 20:16Speaker 1: this organization knows how important it is to win at home.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Things didn't work out the way they did last year.
- 20:20Speaker 1: You won on the road, couldn't win at home. Three
- 20:22Speaker 1: and you know three to five isn't good enough. This year,
- 20:24Speaker 1: the Seahawks had a couple games that they should have won. Yeah,
- 20:27Speaker 1: but four and two. Love it three in a row,
- 20:28Speaker 1: and they're starting to build momentum. So right now, any place, anywhere, home,
- 20:32Speaker 1: on the road, wherever it is, the Seahawks team's going
- 20:34Speaker 1: to get it done. Back on the road next week
- 20:36Speaker 1: taking on the Atlanta Falcons, the Seahawks team is rolling.
- 20:39Speaker 1: We'll get into it on the preview pod. Seahawks are
- 20:42Speaker 1: tied for the best record in the NFC.
- 20:43Speaker 5: Let's go.
- 20:45Speaker 4: I'm not We can look forward, but you know, cause
- 20:47Speaker 4: that's where my mind goes. I don't know, man, you
- 20:49Speaker 4: run the table.
- 20:50Speaker 5: Good things last, You control your own destiny. Good rams
- 20:53Speaker 5: went down, Baby, Let's go.
- 20:54Speaker 4: Things will happen. We'll see what happens.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Tacyhawks second on those Falcons on Sunday, Well, tell everything
- 20:58Speaker 1: you know about that matchup on third, say he's Michael
- 21:00Speaker 1: Bumba some nasachoby. Seahawks shut out the Vikings twenty six
- 21:03Speaker 1: to zero. This has been Hawk Talk.
