Transcript
- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey, everybody, Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a bonus episode
- 0:14Speaker 1: of Long Story Short the podcast. I'm Megan Wendy, and
- 0:18Speaker 1: today we are doing a quick preview of the original
- 0:22Speaker 1: movies coming in May. Hallmark is doing a full month
- 0:25Speaker 1: of bonus originals, and I think this is new.
- 0:29Speaker 2: I don't think we've.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Ever seen a month in our ten years Hallmark movie
- 0:33Speaker 1: reviewers where they don't roll them into spring, or they
- 0:37Speaker 1: don't roll them into summer.
- 0:38Speaker 2: There's sometimes like a bumper movie or two, right, right,
- 0:41Speaker 2: But this is unusual to me. Why aren't why aren't
- 0:44Speaker 2: these themed? Like, why aren't we put these under a
- 0:47Speaker 2: banner of something you want to know? Why? Why? I
- 0:50Speaker 2: think we got a month of stinkers? I absolutely hot
- 0:54Speaker 2: take it is going to be. I'm like, so not
- 0:57Speaker 2: looking forward to once one of the movies at all
- 1:00Speaker 2: because I think they're all gonna be terrible.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Well, let's start with one I know you're not looking
- 1:04Speaker 1: forward to, and that is the kickoff of May. That
- 1:08Speaker 1: is Warming Up to You, which premieres on Saturday, May
- 1:10Speaker 1: seventh on the Hallmark Channel. It stars Cindy Busby and
- 1:15Speaker 1: Christopher Russell and Latanya Williams. Do you recall another movie
- 1:21Speaker 1: that Cindy Busby and Christopher Russell start alongside each other.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Yes, Chasing Waterfalls, which was one of the worst movies
- 1:29Speaker 2: I've ever seen. Terrible. Now Christopher Russell, Harry.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Anson definitely a Wowiezowie. I want to like Cindy Busby
- 1:38Speaker 1: so badly. I have a soft spot in my heart.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Girl's gone Hallmark Listeners. We've said it a million times.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Wendy and I Want hosted a pre show for a
- 1:48Speaker 1: show called Date My Dad on UpTV. Cindy Buzzy was
- 1:52Speaker 1: one of the stars of that show. That moment in
- 1:55Speaker 1: time holds a special place in my heart. Yes, she
- 1:59Speaker 1: has since they were to a run of stinkers.
- 2:05Speaker 2: I hate every movie she's in. Heart's down under, garbage, terrible,
- 2:10Speaker 2: Chasing Waterfalls truly bottom three of twenty twenty one. I
- 2:13Speaker 2: know I can't get hyped for her. I'm so sorry.
- 2:17Speaker 2: And I know I think there are a lot of
- 2:19Speaker 2: Cindy Busbee fans. They think she's adorable, she mimorable, but
- 2:23Speaker 2: these movies that she's terrible in them, and the movies
- 2:27Speaker 2: are terrible, and.
- 2:28Speaker 1: It almost looks like, I mean, the premise is different.
- 2:31Speaker 1: The synopsis from the Hallmark Channel is. Kate is a
- 2:35Speaker 1: fitness instructor who leaves Los Angeles to take a job
- 2:38Speaker 1: at her best friend's wellness retreat. To her surprise, a
- 2:41Speaker 1: list actor Rick is assigned by the studio to come
- 2:44Speaker 1: and train with her to get ready for his new
- 2:46Speaker 1: feature films.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Stop you're telling me that Christopher Russell needs to get
- 2:50Speaker 2: in shape for her film.
- 2:54Speaker 1: They don't have that much time for a transformation, so
- 2:56Speaker 1: they got to start with him already hot.
- 2:58Speaker 2: They need to put him in one of those, like
- 3:00Speaker 2: you know, rene Ze, highly offensive fat suits. Yeah, exactly,
- 3:04Speaker 2: those are the worst I was looking for. Yes, not
- 3:06Speaker 2: only does the duo make a breakthrough athletically, but they
- 3:10Speaker 2: equally break through some personal walls and find an unexpected
- 3:14Speaker 2: friendship that is put at risk when Rick's co star
- 3:16Speaker 2: Liza is also sent to train with Kate. Ooh misunderstanding.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Coming in hot. Now, this wellness retreat looks a little
- 3:26Speaker 2: bit like the set of Chasing Waterfalls.
- 3:28Speaker 1: It's like they just I don't think it is, but
- 3:30Speaker 1: it's you know a little bit wilderness y, and so.
- 3:33Speaker 2: I look, it wouldn't take much to be better than that.
- 3:37Speaker 2: I just need more. I need more I hear you.
- 3:40Speaker 2: I give me Christopher Russell in anything else without Cindy Busby.
- 3:47Speaker 2: If there is a Christopher god, I can't even say
- 3:49Speaker 2: his name. If there is a Christopher Russell movie out
- 3:52Speaker 2: there that you loved that he was yeah, yeah, yeah, asman,
- 3:57Speaker 2: please email us Megan and Wendy at gmail dot com.
- 4:00Speaker 2: I will watch it, but I just feel like them
- 4:02Speaker 2: two together is just so, they're not good together. I
- 4:05Speaker 2: don't think like I sorry not watching it. Oh, actually,
- 4:10Speaker 2: I guess I am gonna have to watch it because
- 4:12Speaker 2: we're gonna review it. That's the timer for when he's
- 4:16Speaker 2: COVID test. I knew it would be, so I have
- 4:27Speaker 2: not seen you got to push the timer off, but
- 4:32Speaker 2: your pants are falling. I'm leaving this all in.
- 4:36Speaker 1: I have never seen any of the movies listed in
- 4:40Speaker 1: his Hallmark resume. On the Hallmark Channel app Love Again,
- 4:45Speaker 1: Midnight Masquerade, Where Your Heart Belongs. I think we've seen
- 4:48Speaker 1: that all summer long.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Love Unleasened.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I think that's supposed to say love on There's that's
- 4:57Speaker 1: not a word unleashed, but it says unleasened and Mary matrimony,
- 5:01Speaker 1: among others. Look point me to a Christopher Russell movie
- 5:05Speaker 1: that we should watch up next, road Trip Romance. This
- 5:10Speaker 1: stars Natalie hall Corey Sevier. It premieres Saturday, May fourteenth
- 5:17Speaker 1: on the Hallmark Channel.
- 5:19Speaker 2: They go to a Renfaradam Nope, Nope. An escalating series
- 5:25Speaker 2: of unfortunate events delay a young woman's journey to her
- 5:28Speaker 2: sister's wedding, a journey she is forced to take with
- 5:31Speaker 2: the guy who was her biggest rival in high school.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Always do that. It's the same story. It's somebody's ex
- 5:38Speaker 2: boyfriend or your biggest rival or whatever like, And now
- 5:44Speaker 2: you have to walk down the aisle with this dude, right.
- 5:47Speaker 2: I have two different, two different synopsies.
- 5:50Speaker 1: That first one was from the Hallmark Channel countdown, the
- 5:55Speaker 1: other is from a Hallmark Channel press release. And I'm
- 5:58Speaker 1: gonna skip the part that I red. But meanwhile, in Wichita,
- 6:04Speaker 1: Blair goes through the steps of preparing for marriage without
- 6:07Speaker 1: her sister there to act as made of honor. Blair's
- 6:09Speaker 1: friend Della steps in and increasingly falls in love with
- 6:12Speaker 1: the idea of being made of honor for real? Will
- 6:15Speaker 1: Megan and Alden make it to Wichita in time? The
- 6:19Speaker 1: destination is Wichita, I mean no offense to Wichita. But
- 6:22Speaker 1: come on, will Della be willing to step aside, take
- 6:25Speaker 1: the journey and find out? You know why I'm not
- 6:28Speaker 1: looking forward to this movie. Tell me you know what
- 6:30Speaker 1: a road trip movie means. Lots of green screen, breaking
- 6:33Speaker 1: green screens.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Yeah, it's gonna be a ton of green screen. No thanks,
- 6:37Speaker 2: And all their photos for this movie, the like cast photos.
- 6:40Speaker 2: They're all wearing like Renaissance fair garb. I just can't
- 6:45Speaker 2: you know they gotta have fun quirky stops along the
- 6:47Speaker 2: way muster the energy to watch this stuff. Sorry, I'm
- 6:51Speaker 2: telling you guys now that these are gonna be low
- 6:54Speaker 2: rated movies from Wendy. Are you ready for what's up next?
- 6:58Speaker 1: No, we have a Hallmark Movies and Mysteries movie Heart
- 7:04Speaker 1: of the Matter, premiering on Sunday, May fifteenth. This movie
- 7:08Speaker 1: stars Amy T. Garden, Gaal O'Grady, and Chandler Massey. Now
- 7:13Speaker 1: tell the people your journey with Amy T.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Garden. Well, I love Amy tea Garden from Friday Night Lights.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Julie Taylor forever I hated her in a New Year's Resolution,
- 7:26Speaker 2: which was from twenty twenty one? Is that right? Yeah?
- 7:30Speaker 2: It was because twenty twelve Okay, I thought that movie
- 7:34Speaker 2: was such a stinker, but honestly, it probably wasn't that bad.
- 7:38Speaker 2: And I said I was gonna go back and watch it,
- 7:39Speaker 2: and I haven't. Then she was in my Christmas Family
- 7:45Speaker 2: Tree and I love that movie and I liked her
- 7:47Speaker 2: in it too, So I mean, I just think I
- 7:50Speaker 2: hated that first New Year's Resolution movie. Yeah, great, I'm
- 7:56Speaker 2: looking forward to an Amy T Garden movie. So will
- 8:01Speaker 2: we watch this one? Because you know, Homewark Movies and
- 8:04Speaker 2: industry was never really on our not on our radar,
- 8:07Speaker 2: but like it wasn't in our lineup usual. Yeah, we
- 8:11Speaker 2: did like the last two movies that they put out,
- 8:13Speaker 2: So is this movie going to be one that we
- 8:16Speaker 2: will review? I have a prediction. Okay, let me tell
- 8:20Speaker 2: you the synopsis before I tell you my prediction. Okay.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Andy is devastated by an accidental death of a patient,
- 8:26Speaker 1: but as she and the grieving mother overcome their sorrow
- 8:29Speaker 1: through forgiveness, they learn that acceptance leads to hope. Now again,
- 8:34Speaker 1: that's the synopsis from the Countdown app Okay, from the
- 8:38Speaker 1: press release. With a malpractice lawsuit looming and potential sanctions
- 8:42Speaker 1: from the medical Review Board, Andy begins to rethink her
- 8:45Speaker 1: loving relationship with Patrick, who's played by Andrew Zakhar from
- 8:50Speaker 1: also from Eight Gifts of Hanukah, who has been understanding
- 8:53Speaker 1: and supportive of her. But as Andy and Gladys learn
- 8:55Speaker 1: to overcome their sorrow through forgiveness, they learn that acceptance
- 8:58Speaker 1: leads to hope.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Here is my prediction.
- 9:01Speaker 1: After all of that, Chandler Massey plays the dude who dies.
- 9:07Speaker 1: He's listed as one of the stars. That's not a prediction.
- 9:09Speaker 1: That's in the press release. Chandler Massey. You may know
- 9:12Speaker 1: his will from Days of Our Lives we're big fans
- 9:14Speaker 1: of in this house.
- 9:15Speaker 2: I think this might be a movie that is not
- 9:17Speaker 2: necessarily based on a romantic storyline. She's in love with
- 9:21Speaker 2: a ghost. Is that what you're suggesting?
- 9:23Speaker 1: No, no, no, no. She has a relationship. She has
- 9:26Speaker 1: a romantic relationship with Patrick played by Andrew zaccarr, But
- 9:31Speaker 1: I think the heart of this movie is around her
- 9:34Speaker 1: contentious relationship with her dead patients mother.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Oh okay, I I'm interested in that story, and I,
- 9:45Speaker 2: as we know, Hallmark Movies and Mysteries is more likely
- 9:48Speaker 2: to go with the movie without a love story at
- 9:52Speaker 2: its heart. Got it? Okay?
- 9:54Speaker 1: Next step number four out of five on the Hallmark Channel,
- 9:58Speaker 1: premiering on Saturday, May twenty. First, we have Romance to
- 10:01Speaker 1: the Rescue, which I immediately assumed was another dog rescue movie.
- 10:06Speaker 1: We skipped last week's dog rescue movie Wendy was traveling.
- 10:10Speaker 1: I hear we didn't miss much. Thank you to the
- 10:13Speaker 1: folks in our Hallmark Facebook group for bringing us up
- 10:16Speaker 1: to speed.
- 10:17Speaker 2: On that one. To impress a potential love interest, Kira
- 10:21Speaker 2: enters her dog in an agility show. The problem is
- 10:25Speaker 2: she has no dog, so she needs to find and
- 10:27Speaker 2: train one and quick. Now why is she entering the
- 10:30Speaker 2: agility dog show if she doesn't have a dog? To
- 10:32Speaker 2: impress the potential love interest? Now this stars go out
- 10:36Speaker 2: for coffee and Brooks my goodness, Marcus Rossner, Nathan wit
- 10:42Speaker 2: and it has this really scary guy in the picture,
- 10:44Speaker 2: like he's like a drill sergeant type dude. Is he
- 10:47Speaker 2: like the dog drill sergeant agility master? I don't know, guys.
- 10:53Speaker 1: I'm gonna give you a hint right here. You cannot
- 10:56Speaker 1: train your dog to be an agility master in weeks,
- 11:00Speaker 1: especially not a rescue unless they were an agility dog
- 11:04Speaker 1: in their past life.
- 11:06Speaker 2: They're probably gonna get like a beagle.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Guys, this is going to be so unbelievable because beagles are.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Like the dumbest dogs.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Just god, you're so me They are real cute, real dumb.
- 11:16Speaker 1: I was in a dog training class with a pair
- 11:18Speaker 1: of beagles, and the trainer every week was like, dumbest
- 11:21Speaker 1: dogs ever, seriously.
- 11:22Speaker 2: And they had owners who were like frigging clueless, send
- 11:29Speaker 2: your hate emails to Meghan, And they're so cute. But
- 11:32Speaker 2: every beagle owner I know will attest to the fact
- 11:34Speaker 2: that beagles are real cute and real dumb. I love
- 11:37Speaker 2: all dogs. I didn't say I didn't love them. I
- 11:40Speaker 2: said they're dumb. You you can love a dog and
- 11:43Speaker 2: think they're not very smart. I don't know any of
- 11:47Speaker 2: these actors. Oh what he looks familiar? Oh, Marcus Rossner. Nope,
- 11:53Speaker 2: he's an unreal Oh my gosh.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Really, Andrew Books is a Hallmark actress who has been
- 12:02Speaker 1: on When Calls the Heart, Okay, when Kevin learns why
- 12:06Speaker 1: Kira adopted Sam and needed to train him in a hurry,
- 12:08Speaker 1: they're budding romance hits a new obstacle that may throw
- 12:10Speaker 1: them off course. Why Kevin, why do you.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Not like the fact that Kia wanted to get to
- 12:15Speaker 2: know you so badly that she adopted a dog and
- 12:17Speaker 2: trained him just to be near you. She lied about it, Okay,
- 12:22Speaker 2: off the relationship with a big fat lie, and they're
- 12:25Speaker 2: just gonna get so upset now.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Hallmark threw a curveball at us because as about a
- 12:29Speaker 1: week ago we only knew four bonus originals, we got five.
- 12:34Speaker 2: How many weeks in May are there?
- 12:36Speaker 1: Well, you know this is a Hallmark Movies and Mysteries movie,
- 12:40Speaker 1: so we can double up. This movie is called Ripin'
- 12:45Speaker 1: Time on Sunday, May twenty second, again on the Hallmark
- 12:51Speaker 1: Movies and Mysteries channels, starring Tory de Vito and ne
- 12:54Speaker 1: All Matter. And I'm sorry to say that we have
- 12:58Speaker 1: maligned the good name of Neil Madda because he was
- 13:01Speaker 1: in a real stinker of a movie called Never Kiss
- 13:02Speaker 1: a Man in a Christmas Sweater And It's not you.
- 13:06Speaker 1: It was the material, you know, I'm sorry. He's he's
- 13:10Speaker 1: nice to look at it, yeah, and he's real charming,
- 13:12Speaker 1: like if you heard him interviewed. You know, Ashley Williams
- 13:15Speaker 1: is that movie too. So it was the movie, not
- 13:17Speaker 1: the act.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Outdoors definitely when organic farmer. Sarah meets a man who,
- 13:24Speaker 2: wait for it, claims to be from seventeen eighty seven
- 13:26Speaker 2: named Rip Van Winkle Junior. She soon discovers old fashioned
- 13:30Speaker 2: romantic feelings that might just be as crazy as his story.
- 13:34Speaker 2: This is another one where like a present day person
- 13:37Speaker 2: falls in love with a time traveler. Is he a
- 13:40Speaker 2: time traveler? Is he just a little bit crazy? They
- 13:44Speaker 2: don't know. I don't care either. That May is gonna
- 13:48Speaker 2: be a hard month for me. It's going to be
- 13:50Speaker 2: a real hard month, throwing, especially coming off of Spring.
- 13:54Speaker 2: I loved so many Spring movies, and then here are
- 13:57Speaker 2: all these dumpster fire of movies that we're gonna be watching,
- 14:00Speaker 2: Stinker after stinker after stinker.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Well, this is not a summer preview episode, but I
- 14:06Speaker 1: will tell you that summer already feels much more promising
- 14:09Speaker 1: than Spring.
- 14:10Speaker 2: What we're seeing coming. I mean, we got Ashley.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Williams movie, we have a Holly Robinson Pete move, We've
- 14:16Speaker 1: got lots of movies coming our way. But I just
- 14:19Speaker 1: we have really sung the praises of Hallmark this year
- 14:22Speaker 1: that they've there have been some stinkers if you look back,
- 14:26Speaker 1: not stinkers, but not all winners.
- 14:28Speaker 2: If you look back to the.
- 14:29Speaker 1: New Year, New Movies, that was not a lineup of winners,
- 14:32Speaker 1: with the exception of the oddly placed wedding veil.
- 14:35Speaker 2: But they should have known they couldn't hold on to it. No,
- 14:38Speaker 2: I know. I think. I think sometimes they feel like
- 14:41Speaker 2: they just have to fill the schedule with something. They
- 14:45Speaker 2: have to give the viewers something. Yeah, even if it's terrible.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Do two movies a month, Hallmark and make them all
- 14:52Speaker 2: better exactly. Yeah, but you know we're gonna watch these.
- 14:56Speaker 2: We will be here for you.
- 14:57Speaker 1: We would love it if you would join our Facebook group,
- 15:00Speaker 1: which is also titled Girls Gone Hallmark. You can find
- 15:03Speaker 1: a link in our show notes. You can also search
- 15:05Speaker 1: girls Gone Hallwark on Facebook.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Join the group. We'd love to have you. We'd love
- 15:10Speaker 2: to hear your opinions. Do we want to talk about
- 15:12Speaker 2: the email received? Yeah? Okay.
- 15:15Speaker 1: We often ask for your emails. We always ask for
- 15:17Speaker 1: your emails. I want your emails. We don't love every
- 15:21Speaker 1: movie Hallmark makes, as evidenced by the past fifteen minutes
- 15:23Speaker 1: where we've basically told you you could take a knee
- 15:27Speaker 1: on this month. Yes, and so if you want to
- 15:31Speaker 1: email us and tell us that you hated a movie,
- 15:33Speaker 1: even if we loved the movie.
- 15:34Speaker 2: I'm here for that. Yeah, that's what this is about.
- 15:38Speaker 1: We received an email with the subject lying totally ruffled
- 15:43Speaker 1: viewer five exclamation points.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Oh and uh, you know, I think listeners could guess immediately.
- 15:52Speaker 2: They wouldn't need all three guests to guess what movie
- 15:54Speaker 2: this person's talking about. Tell us though, this totally ruffled
- 15:59Speaker 2: viewer is very upset at love Classified, y'all. This email
- 16:07Speaker 2: talks about the fall of Rome, Hallmark's lack of moral standards,
- 16:14Speaker 2: And I'm just here to tell you that if you
- 16:20Speaker 2: do not want to watch television that reflects the world
- 16:23Speaker 2: in which you live in, there are channels that will
- 16:26Speaker 2: allow you to do that. But I'm not really interested
- 16:31Speaker 2: in your emails about the moral failings of a network
- 16:35Speaker 2: that displays real cute love stories. Honestly, this email was
- 16:40Speaker 2: should have been addressed to someone at Hallmark. Yes, Like,
- 16:43Speaker 2: I don't know what this person wants us to do
- 16:46Speaker 2: about it. And it's funny because I didn't know the
- 16:49Speaker 2: subject of the email until you just said it right now,
- 16:52Speaker 2: and I was like, that sounds very familiar. So I
- 16:54Speaker 2: pulled up our blog posts that we have on it
- 16:57Speaker 2: and it says love Classified has ruffled a few feathers
- 17:01Speaker 2: for its storyline and content. We're yours ruffled, email us
- 17:04Speaker 2: and tell us wo. So this person was obviously just
- 17:09Speaker 2: googling and because I like to pat myself on the
- 17:13Speaker 2: back for my good SEO practices, came across ours and
- 17:19Speaker 2: wanted to tell us about it. Now, I don't think
- 17:22Speaker 2: she listened to our episode at all. No, no, no, no, no,
- 17:24Speaker 2: I would agree with that.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Yeah, she doesn't know that we're not the right We're
- 17:29Speaker 1: not the right audience for this email, right right, right,
- 17:32Speaker 1: right right, Because if you heard us talk about our
- 17:34Speaker 1: good friends over at GHAK Family, you know that our
- 17:38Speaker 1: feelings about that channel and it's quote family friendly programming
- 17:43Speaker 1: are they can go poundsand so look, you did not
- 17:47Speaker 1: have to agree with us about our opinions about these movies.
- 17:51Speaker 1: You can think Cindy Buzzby makes great movies. We still
- 17:54Speaker 1: like you, but uh, I think you know, move along
- 17:59Speaker 1: with your hot takes about lack of vetting moral standards
- 18:03Speaker 1: three exclamation points.
- 18:05Speaker 2: I just see this person was just pissed and wanted
- 18:07Speaker 2: somebody on her side, but she was just reaching out
- 18:10Speaker 2: to the wrong people. Yep, so we're gonna miss miss
- 18:14Speaker 2: that's hilarious goodness. All right, Well that was just a
- 18:21Speaker 2: quick little peek at what's coming next week because there
- 18:25Speaker 2: wasn't a movie this past weekend. When he got a break,
- 18:27Speaker 2: I got a two week break. Guys, I would like
- 18:29Speaker 2: to invite you to listen to our regular Tuesday episodes.
- 18:33Speaker 2: If you like us, that's what you're gonna get more of.
- 18:36Speaker 1: There's not a lot of Hallmark talk on Tuesdays, but
- 18:38Speaker 1: we're fun. This week was all about pop culture, other
- 18:41Speaker 1: things we are watching, reading, listening to.
- 18:44Speaker 2: So if you skip over those episodes and you just
- 18:46Speaker 2: listen to Homemark, give one a try. I think this
- 18:49Speaker 2: week's would be a good place to start. Julius styles
- 18:53Speaker 2: in a Hallmark Yes, it is from twenty thirteen The Makeover.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Oh God, she's a terrible actress too. Save the Last Dance.
