- 0:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that Uh, Chuck Norris was chasing the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
- 0:05Speaker 1: The rex was not chasing the jeep.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Murray, Murray, you there.
- 0:09Speaker 1: You love sandwiches. Huh, Let's go to uh eighty.
- 0:13Speaker 2: It was.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Wow that Prime time. Maybe I had a crush on
- 0:18Speaker 1: Betty Rubbell. I honestly, until after the segment ended and
- 0:22Speaker 1: we went to commercial break, had no idea that Jonathan
- 0:24Speaker 1: Coachman was black. He caught them the game last night,
- 0:27Speaker 1: although they won the game. You're listening to to goatsen
- 0:31Speaker 1: Company our money. T Bob is with us. He was
- 0:33Speaker 1: in the deep woods of Michigan on vacation because of
- 0:37Speaker 1: course he goes his tea Bob. Check him out every
- 0:39Speaker 1: morning Wake Up Barstool. You can check him out on TV.
- 0:41Speaker 1: You can check him out on the podcast wherever you
- 0:44Speaker 1: get your podcast. How was the trip to Michigan? My friend?
- 0:47Speaker 2: So so not exactly vacation, not not not not a vacation.
- 0:52Speaker 2: So it was hm, it was it was a it
- 0:55Speaker 2: was a church camp, daddy daughter retreat.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Oh nice.
- 0:59Speaker 2: So I have recently started attending a mega church, which
- 1:05Speaker 2: I never really thought back in January, I never really
- 1:07Speaker 2: thought I would, but I got like the messages. Right,
- 1:09Speaker 2: it appeals to me. Whatever, right, I understand, I'll think
- 1:11Speaker 2: it's cool. It's cool. But they've had this camp for
- 1:16Speaker 2: fifty years up in the deep upper peninsula of Michigan Woods.
- 1:23Speaker 2: I'm talking like. It was like an eight hour drive
- 1:26Speaker 2: from Chicago, six hours out dirt roads and the fucking
- 1:30Speaker 2: woods to get there. GPS doesn't work, avenues, handwritten directions. Wow,
- 1:35Speaker 2: And you got to get there by boat. Then at
- 1:36Speaker 2: the end, okay, and we're talking off the grid. No,
- 1:39Speaker 2: we're onnning water, no electricity, no no service whatsoever.
- 1:45Speaker 1: So how long have you traveled? How long have you
- 1:46Speaker 1: traveled before you get to the boat?
- 1:48Speaker 2: Just about eight hours?
- 1:51Speaker 1: Ok wow?
- 1:52Speaker 2: Boat? The boat rides only a couple of minutes, but
- 1:53Speaker 2: right takes you across the river and up the river
- 1:55Speaker 2: a little bit. And then there's this random camp. But
- 1:58Speaker 2: but the but the whole point of it is the
- 2:01Speaker 2: Daddy darg camps. The whole point is you bring one kid,
- 2:05Speaker 2: not allowed to bring multiple kids. You bring one kid,
- 2:06Speaker 2: and you spend four days fully present, learning about God,
- 2:11Speaker 2: learning your kid like one on one time. Bro. It
- 2:14Speaker 2: was the best four days of my fucking life.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Wow.
- 2:19Speaker 2: I have never felt so loved than I did by
- 2:23Speaker 2: my eight year old daughter. We are so like and
- 2:26Speaker 2: of course with your daughter, you're already close like I.
- 2:28Speaker 2: If you're a dad out there listening to this, and
- 2:30Speaker 2: I'm sure it doesn't be church whatever like there is,
- 2:35Speaker 2: there's gotta be something near you that's similar. I could
- 2:37Speaker 2: not recommend enough taking just one kid and doing this.
- 2:41Speaker 2: I can't wait. I got two little ones, Like, when
- 2:43Speaker 2: they get older, we're gonna go like it was. It
- 2:45Speaker 2: was unreal, dude.
- 2:46Speaker 1: It was real.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Also also being unplugged, like no service or anything for
- 2:52Speaker 2: four days, no enter for four days. There, that feels
- 2:55Speaker 2: pretty fucking good, dud. Yes, yes, I'm not like And
- 2:58Speaker 2: it led to a very fun moment where, uh, there
- 3:02Speaker 2: was a climbing tower and at the top of the
- 3:03Speaker 2: climbing tower you could get service. So about day three,
- 3:07Speaker 2: me and my daughter went to the top and went
- 3:09Speaker 2: to call her mom checking at home and everything, and
- 3:12Speaker 2: her mom gives me the news, and my wife gives
- 3:17Speaker 2: me the news that Lebron had signed in Philadelphia.
- 3:20Speaker 1: That's how you heard. Wow.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Then I did, like like Moses, from the top of
- 3:25Speaker 2: the mountain, I descend down and I walk into the cafeteria.
- 3:29Speaker 2: You have the good Yes, my fellow father's dad's I
- 3:36Speaker 2: have news from the mountaintop. Lebron has signed in Philadelphia,
- 3:41Speaker 2: and everybody's like freaking out. Everybody's talking about Oh my god,
- 3:45Speaker 2: no way, chopping it up. It was. It was one
- 3:47Speaker 2: of the funnier life experiences I have ever had, been
- 3:50Speaker 2: the bearer of the news.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Mikey, I gotta be honest. It sounds like t Bob
- 3:54Speaker 1: regrets he had to return from the trip.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, it's I would say this. It's a bit
- 4:03Speaker 2: of both, right. It was unbelievable. You're so connected. It's
- 4:06Speaker 2: so great that said, tiny ass cabin, no ac or anything.
- 4:11Speaker 2: It's cold to night, hot during the day. The mosquitoes
- 4:14Speaker 2: there are unbelievable. I've been shitting in porta potties and
- 4:18Speaker 2: pissing in the woods for days now. For showers, you
- 4:22Speaker 2: would pump the water out and then you would fill
- 4:25Speaker 2: up this thing that was heated by a fireplaces and
- 4:27Speaker 2: pour the hot water into a bucket and hang it
- 4:29Speaker 2: from the ceiling and like get it underneath. It so
- 4:32Speaker 2: very fun, very fun. But by the end of three days,
- 4:36Speaker 2: I was ready to get back to my bed and
- 4:40Speaker 2: a pillow and running on the first time that I
- 4:43Speaker 2: hit a restaurant in the toilet flushed, I don't want
- 4:46Speaker 2: to leave. It was a scrolling YouTube shorts and they
- 4:49Speaker 2: kicked me out. It sounds an awful lot like a
- 4:52Speaker 2: trip to Vegas. Like it's four.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Days, you don't know where you are. You come out
- 4:56Speaker 1: and you're like, oh my god, it's back to reality.
- 4:58Speaker 2: I kind of smell. It's a little bit yeah. Time.
- 5:03Speaker 2: In many ways it is. It is like the complete
- 5:06Speaker 2: inverse because instead of just like cause you're right like
- 5:09Speaker 2: core feeling the same, but instead of hedonism, it's all
- 5:13Speaker 2: like good, like soul filling stuff. So yes, it is
- 5:16Speaker 2: like you know how you have like a negative image
- 5:18Speaker 2: where like all the colors are flipped. Yes, Vegas is
- 5:21Speaker 2: like the negative version of this. I would look Vegas
- 5:24Speaker 2: is fun. Get it out in your twenties, guys, whatever
- 5:27Speaker 2: you got. Yeah, and then when you have kids, look
- 5:29Speaker 2: forward to this because again, I just it's awesome and
- 5:33Speaker 2: now I can't wait for brother kids. Dude, you get
- 5:35Speaker 2: to know these kids man in such a way.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Cool.
- 5:38Speaker 1: If you want to go to a place with your
- 5:39Speaker 1: kid where you can be disconnected but you don't have
- 5:42Speaker 1: to deal with the woods and all that stuff. You
- 5:43Speaker 1: have bathrooms and everything. Just go to Augusta. I mean,
- 5:45Speaker 1: there you go. I mean four days, yes, four days.
- 5:49Speaker 2: It has it has made me. I mean that's definitely
- 5:52Speaker 2: like a bucket list item, but it has made me
- 5:55Speaker 2: really appreciate anywhere we're like in no cell phones rule
- 5:59Speaker 2: or or something is in place, it is. It's just
- 6:03Speaker 2: so nice, dude. It's just so we don't realize how
- 6:05Speaker 2: much of a fucking and and like my kids on
- 6:08Speaker 2: that phone, so like they haven't been infected by the
- 6:11Speaker 2: algorithm yet, they're still pretty pure. My brain at this
- 6:14Speaker 2: point is just fucking much. But you know what I
- 6:16Speaker 2: did bring. What I brought my college football preview magazines
- 6:21Speaker 2: and my NFL preview magazines. So when I was in
- 6:24Speaker 2: the porta potty or during some of the downtime, I'm reading.
- 6:28Speaker 2: I'm establishing the foundation of knowledge. And then the takes
- 6:32Speaker 2: are starting to bubble up out of the ether.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Oh I love it. We'll get to your takes in
- 6:37Speaker 1: just a second. What restaurant did you go to? Did
- 6:39Speaker 1: you eat at that restaurant or you just use their bathroom?
- 6:43Speaker 2: No, we did eat at it. We had it the
- 6:44Speaker 2: way up and the way down. It's called the Three
- 6:46Speaker 2: Season's Cafe and Manistique man of Stique, Michigan. It uh
- 6:52Speaker 2: just a little roadside diner on the on the side
- 6:55Speaker 2: of the lake. Uh. We stopped there on a whim
- 6:58Speaker 2: because they had a bear statue out front, you know.
- 7:00Speaker 2: And so we sit down to order the dinner on
- 7:02Speaker 2: the way up there, and uh, I got I can't remember,
- 7:06Speaker 2: I've just got some dinner food. My daughter loves steak.
- 7:08Speaker 2: She got a fucking twelve ounce ribbi. Again it's a
- 7:11Speaker 2: shitty diner steak, and she took down the entire thing
- 7:14Speaker 2: absolutely loved it.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Yes, all right, loved it. That is so good. So
- 7:19Speaker 1: you climb this tower to call your wife and she
- 7:22Speaker 1: tells you Lebron James. I love the visual of this.
- 7:24Speaker 1: You in the middle of the woods, climbing a tower
- 7:27Speaker 1: with your daughter, your eight year old daughter h to
- 7:30Speaker 1: call mom to say hi, and mom reveals that Lebron
- 7:33Speaker 1: is signed in Philadelphia. And what is your reaction on
- 7:36Speaker 1: top of the tower.
- 7:38Speaker 2: I was shocked, dude, I mean I didn't think so
- 7:40Speaker 2: we once feel guys here at work and we're always
- 7:42Speaker 2: fucking with him because they were like trying to say
- 7:44Speaker 2: it's like, I didn't think they had a chance, right thought,
- 7:46Speaker 2: I thought this story was gonna be one of the
- 7:48Speaker 2: homecomings either Cleveland or Miami. But kind of throughout the
- 7:54Speaker 2: entire thing, we did say that in terms of championship relevance,
- 8:00Speaker 2: Philly made the most sense, of course, which, to be fair,
- 8:03Speaker 2: Lebron sat there and told us that, like, you know,
- 8:06Speaker 2: that's kind of what Well, well, maybe it's more clear
- 8:10Speaker 2: in retrospect. Now. My question you would be this, so
- 8:13Speaker 2: so at first, I'm like, oh, all of a sudden,
- 8:14Speaker 2: I think the first thing you do is you run
- 8:15Speaker 2: through the starting lineup right, and you're like, Okay, whoa dude,
- 8:18Speaker 2: that's kind of a fucking squad. A little bit, my
- 8:21Speaker 2: question would be this, I guess it's twofold. First, are
- 8:27Speaker 2: we dealing do we take Lebron at his word? Are
- 8:30Speaker 2: we dealing with an evolved Lebron? Is this someone who
- 8:33Speaker 2: really doesn't care about the money, doesn't care about like
- 8:37Speaker 2: the friends or family or anything. I wonder like, does
- 8:40Speaker 2: he not care about the front office? Right?
- 8:42Speaker 1: Like?
- 8:42Speaker 2: Is he willing to is he willing to take it
- 8:44Speaker 2: back seat in the front office and let them make
- 8:46Speaker 2: the decisions and is he willing to be that kind
- 8:48Speaker 2: of support role, veteran player that is going to to
- 8:52Speaker 2: try to help them get over the championship hump? And
- 8:55Speaker 2: then I stole this off of Twitter or one of
- 8:57Speaker 2: my producers, did, I'm stealing it from him?
- 8:58Speaker 1: That's okay?
- 9:00Speaker 2: Who gets announced last the game?
- 9:03Speaker 1: Yes?
- 9:03Speaker 2: Who comes out last? Dude?
- 9:05Speaker 1: I mean first game, it's got to be Lebron, I
- 9:06Speaker 1: would think, right, I mean I.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Would think first game, yes, yes, but past first game?
- 9:12Speaker 1: Wow, that is a great question. I know it's because
- 9:17Speaker 1: in b thinks it should be in bid Jalen Brown
- 9:20Speaker 1: went there, so it would be Jalen Brown, and now
- 9:22Speaker 1: Lebron's here. I think it's gonna be Lebron every single time,
- 9:26Speaker 1: and it probably should be, you know.
- 9:28Speaker 2: And then like MAXI might be the best out of all.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Of the right, but he's going first.
- 9:31Speaker 2: And then yes, he's still there, dude, and he's getting child.
- 9:34Speaker 2: And the Jalen Brown thing is interesting too, because Jalen
- 9:39Speaker 2: very much on the record as having talked shit about
- 9:42Speaker 2: Joel Embiid after they knocked the Celtics out, very much
- 9:45Speaker 2: on the records having talked about Bronni when he was saying,
- 9:48Speaker 2: you know, this is a G league guy got caught
- 9:50Speaker 2: court side and everything. And we just had Tatum over
- 9:53Speaker 2: the weekend talking to me of that basketball camp he
- 9:56Speaker 2: was at talking about how there's no worse guy in
- 9:58Speaker 2: the room than the guy that thinks he knows that,
- 10:00Speaker 2: to which I I think it's like one in my
- 10:04Speaker 2: opinion that he's talking about Jalen Brown there. So it
- 10:07Speaker 2: is a fascinating dynamic in Philadelphia.
- 10:11Speaker 1: I think it's a very quick in terms of how
- 10:13Speaker 1: they announced this team. It's Edge Comb and it's very quick,
- 10:15Speaker 1: and he's first right, and then and then it's Maxi,
- 10:19Speaker 1: and then it's Embiid and then it's Jalen Brown, Holy
- 10:23Speaker 1: bleeped their good and then it's Lebron James. You know,
- 10:27Speaker 1: I think that's the order in which you have to
- 10:30Speaker 1: do it. Uh, what do you more? Mature? Lebron? I
- 10:32Speaker 1: think the proof is in the pudding. In terms of
- 10:34Speaker 1: he was willing to take less. He took less. I mean,
- 10:36Speaker 1: he's playing for four million dollars a year. I think
- 10:39Speaker 1: he saw an opportunity that he didn't think was going
- 10:41Speaker 1: to be available to him, and that opportunity is, Hey,
- 10:43Speaker 1: I could just slap myself into this Philadelphia team and
- 10:46Speaker 1: I can win a fifth and maybe a six championship
- 10:49Speaker 1: and why not? And so good for Lebron. He made
- 10:51Speaker 1: the right decision for the right reasons, that's all.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Do you think he's I mean, and that is like,
- 10:57Speaker 2: that is something that I think it's so easy to
- 10:59Speaker 2: gloss over it. I'm not entirely sure why, but it
- 11:02Speaker 2: really is worth it's and you know what, I think
- 11:05Speaker 2: I do know why, but it really is worth taking
- 11:08Speaker 2: a second to appreciate how rare this choice is. Right, Yes,
- 11:14Speaker 2: like for a guy to actively take that much less
- 11:17Speaker 2: money than he is worth and to have his kind
- 11:20Speaker 2: of soul pursuit be the team, and I'm gonna be
- 11:24Speaker 2: here to see how it translates on the court and
- 11:25Speaker 2: kind of what he what he views his his role as.
- 11:28Speaker 2: But I think I think the reason why we gloss
- 11:30Speaker 2: over it is probably just because he has like so
- 11:32Speaker 2: much money that to the average person, you're like, well
- 11:35Speaker 2: what the fuck dude, Like it's like, yeah, four million
- 11:37Speaker 2: or fifty million actually doesn't matter to him. Yes, well
- 11:40Speaker 2: he's not like all these other guys sitting around like, well,
- 11:43Speaker 2: one hundred millions, not actually one hundred million, shut the
- 11:46Speaker 2: fuck up. Get the fucking like, what are we doing? Guys,
- 11:50Speaker 2: read the fucking room. Hyper inflation. Everybody's fucking struggling, and
- 11:56Speaker 2: you fucking chuckle focks are sitting here with a microphone
- 11:59Speaker 2: in front of your face. A hundred million isn't actually
- 12:01Speaker 2: one hundred million? Fuck my dick on behalf of just
- 12:06Speaker 2: an average American.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Yeah that's crazy, Yes, yeah, it's okay. We also forget
- 12:12Speaker 1: in some tangential way, he'll be making money off of
- 12:15Speaker 1: Nick nurses, his clients, of Clutchborts, and he'll be making
- 12:18Speaker 1: money off of Maxie as well.
- 12:21Speaker 2: The guy's gotta figured out the stugatts.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Yea strong in him. Yeah, he's done.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Also, there's like, there's like almost the conspiracies that like
- 12:33Speaker 2: Michael Rubin is maybe like like you know, who knows
- 12:36Speaker 2: how much he paid him for Fanatics Fest and he
- 12:39Speaker 2: used to be minority owner in Philly, and but I
- 12:41Speaker 2: mean I don't really Again, I don't think. I don't
- 12:44Speaker 2: find it too hard to believe that money not the
- 12:46Speaker 2: biggest motivating factor for Lebron At this point. He's firmly
- 12:50Speaker 2: in legacy mode as a Knicks fan. Are they better
- 12:54Speaker 2: in the next so.
- 12:55Speaker 1: This is funny because I didn't know what it was
- 12:58Speaker 1: gonna think, what was gonna feel like when I arrived
- 13:01Speaker 1: at this place of the Knicks winning a championship. But
- 13:04Speaker 1: I gotta tell you, I am sitting back and I
- 13:06Speaker 1: am laughing, and I am enjoying and I am yawning
- 13:10Speaker 1: because look at what all these teams are trying to
- 13:12Speaker 1: do to catch our team. And I gotta be honest
- 13:15Speaker 1: with you, that feels fantastic. It really does. So whether
- 13:20Speaker 1: or not they're better than the next I don't care.
- 13:22Speaker 1: I got my title, T Bob, I'm good. But I
- 13:24Speaker 1: say I'm good for the remainder of time. I am
- 13:27Speaker 1: good for the remainder of time as it relates to
- 13:29Speaker 1: the Nicks.
- 13:30Speaker 2: So I mean that's a great point. That's a great point,
- 13:32Speaker 2: right you You have the full belly of a championship season. Yes,
- 13:38Speaker 2: I've experienced that with LSU where like yeah, like the
- 13:41Speaker 2: next year, you're just playing with house money, right, nothing matters.
- 13:45Speaker 2: You don't feel like your your heart and souls on
- 13:47Speaker 2: the line every single Saturday. You just kind of hanging
- 13:50Speaker 2: out getting drunk, having fun. The I think this is
- 13:55Speaker 2: kind of fascinating, though. Is that the great strength of
- 13:59Speaker 2: the Knicks is that they are that classic whole is
- 14:02Speaker 2: the greater than the sum of its parts. Yeah, sort
- 14:05Speaker 2: of team, yes, that we love to celebrate and champion,
- 14:08Speaker 2: whereas Philly are just like a bunch of the great
- 14:11Speaker 2: parts just thrown in a bag and you gotta like
- 14:14Speaker 2: make it work. And so watching that dynamic because I
- 14:17Speaker 2: think Philly will struggle early on, but if they hit
- 14:21Speaker 2: their stride or they find a way and they get health,
- 14:24Speaker 2: luck and everything, then god, that could be just a
- 14:27Speaker 2: Titanic series in the East.
- 14:30Speaker 1: It's gonna be fantastic if we get to an Eastern
- 14:32Speaker 1: Conference finals of six Ers and Knicks. People forget about this.
- 14:34Speaker 1: With a Heat, if anyone can pull it off, it's Lebron.
- 14:36Speaker 1: He's been there, he's done it. But that Heat team
- 14:39Speaker 1: in its first season with Wade, Lebron and Bosh started
- 14:41Speaker 1: nine to eight. We wanted to fire the coach. I mean, yeah,
- 14:44Speaker 1: you're right. I mean it's you know, you bumpgate with
- 14:47Speaker 1: Lebron bumping into Spo. There was all kinds of things
- 14:50Speaker 1: going on. And then obviously they figured it out. What
- 14:52Speaker 1: to four straight NBA finals, you know, well, and.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Then and then here's Giannis.
- 14:58Speaker 1: He's just old news to Yeah, it's crazy, right.
- 15:01Speaker 2: For years you told Janni Sunty down town, and then
- 15:03Speaker 2: he goes to Miami and everybody goes, okay, yeah, yeah, sure,
- 15:06Speaker 2: where's Lebron going? Yes, which is crazy because like objectively,
- 15:08Speaker 2: Giannis is still a top five guy in the NBA
- 15:10Speaker 2: right now, he is. But I guess, I mean it's
- 15:13Speaker 2: everybody points just the parts in Miami, like they don't
- 15:16Speaker 2: have the parts, and so it makes it unexciting. I'll
- 15:19Speaker 2: be interested to see if heat culture will produce said
- 15:22Speaker 2: parts as they have in the past.
- 15:24Speaker 1: But Yanna says, your best player is not nearly as
- 15:26Speaker 1: exciting as Lebron on a four million dollar contract, does
- 15:28Speaker 1: your fourth best player? That's the thing, you know, true, Yes,
- 15:32Speaker 1: very true. So you picked up these magazines. I want
- 15:45Speaker 1: to talk to some college Baldwin. Yeah, you got these
- 15:48Speaker 1: Uh you got these magazines because you were going to
- 15:50Speaker 1: a place where there was no internet and so you know,
- 15:53Speaker 1: you knew you needed some magazines to what's the last
- 15:57Speaker 1: time you bought a magazine, by the way.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Okay, so this is actually that I've been developing for
- 16:01Speaker 2: a while now, which is that magazines are and you
- 16:05Speaker 2: may not realize it. Yet, magazines are entering a golden era,
- 16:08Speaker 2: or they should be. They could be potentially in that
- 16:12Speaker 2: they are so enjoyable, they're so nice because like when
- 16:17Speaker 2: you look at your phone, you immediately get sucked in.
- 16:21Speaker 2: It's rare that you're just gonna read an article on
- 16:23Speaker 2: your phone and then put it down. You're probably gonna
- 16:25Speaker 2: check a text. You might hop on Twitter, Instagram, whatever
- 16:28Speaker 2: your social media drug is of choice. You're gonna end
- 16:30Speaker 2: up getting stressed out by something. Maybe you look at
- 16:32Speaker 2: the calendar, maybe you check your email. Like you're gonna
- 16:35Speaker 2: get sucked in. There is something about a magazine. You
- 16:38Speaker 2: have ink in your ink under your nails. You sit there,
- 16:41Speaker 2: you hold it, you read the article, there's no other bullshit,
- 16:45Speaker 2: and then you fold it up and put it in
- 16:47Speaker 2: your back pocket and it goes around everywhere. You bust
- 16:49Speaker 2: it out. No distractions. Yes, I have found as of
- 16:53Speaker 2: late I get like National Geographic History Magazine, which have
- 16:57Speaker 2: loved for years and years, but like as of late,
- 16:59Speaker 2: I've really started to appreciate magazinell over again, especially when
- 17:03Speaker 2: it comes to college football because there's ten thousand transfers.
- 17:08Speaker 1: Yes, to try to keep track up right.
- 17:10Speaker 2: It's it's it's It boggles the mind the amount of
- 17:15Speaker 2: players that switch teams nowadays. So you almost need these
- 17:18Speaker 2: things to be like, Okay, who's coaching where? Yes, who's
- 17:21Speaker 2: the quarterback here? And it's a great way to establish
- 17:25Speaker 2: your base going going into a new season.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Okay, I like it. Someone should start a new magazine
- 17:31Speaker 1: called The Portal just that it just addresses the ports.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Mikey likes that. Let's get on that. So what'd you learn?
- 17:37Speaker 1: What are your college football takes here as you were
- 17:39Speaker 1: thumbing through these magazines in the woods with no cell
- 17:42Speaker 1: phone service?
- 17:44Speaker 2: I mean Notre Dame, you know, Liam Blevens. Congrats on
- 17:48Speaker 2: the playoffs, right, I mean already CD cars would be awesome.
- 17:52Speaker 2: You lose two first round running backs and you're still
- 17:54Speaker 2: number one in the country in returning production. Right, You've
- 17:58Speaker 2: got a softest shit schedule, which again I am someone
- 18:01Speaker 2: though this is a core belief of mine when it
- 18:03Speaker 2: comes to college football, and this what SEC fans did
- 18:05Speaker 2: for years, and I think they've finally been humble little bit,
- 18:07Speaker 2: but I absolutely lo it. We love to think that
- 18:11Speaker 2: we know who's going to win on Saturday. And the
- 18:14Speaker 2: College Ball Playoff Committee has made this unfortunately more relevant
- 18:18Speaker 2: than ever because every single week we sit there and
- 18:21Speaker 2: tell you we know this team is better, we know
- 18:23Speaker 2: that team is better, and then every single week we're
- 18:25Speaker 2: proven wrong with upsets. So, like I know, it looks
- 18:28Speaker 2: like Notre Dame's gonna go undefeated. I think they might
- 18:31Speaker 2: catch a loss somewhere. I think they're going to catch
- 18:33Speaker 2: a loss somewhere. I think they'll struggle more than it
- 18:35Speaker 2: looks like they will on paper. That said, they will
- 18:38Speaker 2: make the College Football Playoff. The new rules basically guarantee it.
- 18:42Speaker 2: They're number one returning production. I really like CJ. Carr.
- 18:46Speaker 2: He had a great freshman year at quarterback. He's in
- 18:48Speaker 2: back sophomore year. I guess the only question I have
- 18:51Speaker 2: is last year, having Jeremiah Love and you Darian Price, CJ.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Carr was about as about as a friendly quarterback as
- 19:01Speaker 2: you could possibly be, And now all the focus is
- 19:04Speaker 2: gonna be on him. And does he have the receivers
- 19:06Speaker 2: for they got Nias Williams the running back, he should
- 19:08Speaker 2: be good. But but CJ. Carr is one of the
- 19:11Speaker 2: more fascinating players in in the entire country. Right now, I.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Would say, okay, So I.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Mean Notre Dame. Of course in Indiana, it's like, is
- 19:23Speaker 2: Signetti gonna do the transfer quarterback thing again? Uh? Look
- 19:26Speaker 2: at the Iaric jump. Look at them and Doza jump.
- 19:28Speaker 2: And now you get Hoover in there from TCU, who,
- 19:31Speaker 2: while he's a bit wild, has way bigger stats than
- 19:33Speaker 2: those guys had coming in. Like, is Signetti gonna be
- 19:36Speaker 2: able to keep that thing rolling? Following that incredible season,
- 19:40Speaker 2: the Ohio State offense should be unbelievable. They return their
- 19:44Speaker 2: entire row line, they got bo Jackson backer running back,
- 19:46Speaker 2: they got Jeremia Smith back, the receivers are gonna be incredible.
- 19:49Speaker 2: Julians say in year two, much harder schedule. Uh, and
- 19:54Speaker 2: they lost a lot of great defenders. But I think
- 19:56Speaker 2: I think that the Ohio State to me is almost
- 19:59Speaker 2: like the Patriot to the NFL, where I think they
- 20:01Speaker 2: could be a better team with a worse record. This year,
- 20:05Speaker 2: like last year, Ohio State just dominates everybody. But they
- 20:09Speaker 2: ain't getting a fight. They didn't get bloodied up really
- 20:11Speaker 2: outside of that Texas and they didn't know what it
- 20:14Speaker 2: was to struggle. And they get in the playoffs and
- 20:16Speaker 2: they flopped and in the Big Ten Championship they flopped
- 20:18Speaker 2: because of that. So I think next year there's more
- 20:20Speaker 2: regular season struggle with more postseason success for Ohio State.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Georgia fascinates me. Okay, what is because if you look
- 20:31Speaker 2: at Georgia last year, I don't know how they got here.
- 20:33Speaker 2: The offense great solid, gunners socked and great solid. The
- 20:37Speaker 2: defense great solid, but on both sides of the ball,
- 20:41Speaker 2: you're talking about one of the most unexplosive teams in
- 20:44Speaker 2: the entire country. No big plays off very efficient offensively, right,
- 20:49Speaker 2: but no big plays offensively, very efficient defensively making you
- 20:53Speaker 2: put agether drive, make you player neath them, but terrible
- 20:56Speaker 2: in sacks terrible, and tackles for lost terrible and have
- 20:59Speaker 2: it great? So like, can Georgia find that that that
- 21:04Speaker 2: edge again? And why the fuck can't they? Like why
- 21:07Speaker 2: don't they have good receivers? Which doesn't make any sense. Yes,
- 21:10Speaker 2: my guys having to transfer out of there to find success,
- 21:13Speaker 2: it doesn't make any sense to me. And if they
- 21:16Speaker 2: find that, I think Georgia could be the SEC pick.
- 21:20Speaker 2: And then of course there is also like the gorilla
- 21:23Speaker 2: in the room that is Arch Manning in this Texas
- 21:26Speaker 2: team and Steve Sarkisian, somebody who I want to say,
- 21:31Speaker 2: I might have to look up the exact stats. I'm
- 21:33Speaker 2: not wrong. I want to say his like record against
- 21:37Speaker 2: top ten teams is like six and eighteen or something.
- 21:41Speaker 2: You know what, let's not put a number on it.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Wash my hands with that. What I'm gonna say is this,
- 21:45Speaker 2: James Franklin got a lot of shit for being awful
- 21:49Speaker 2: in big games. Sarkisian is not that far off. And
- 21:53Speaker 2: I know that he's wanted to me. I know that
- 21:54Speaker 2: he's led Texas to a more consistent level of success, yes,
- 21:58Speaker 2: than they have than they have had.
- 22:00Speaker 1: He is three and eight. He is three and eight
- 22:02Speaker 1: against ap top ten teams.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Okay, there you go, Yeah, there you go. Yes, that's
- 22:07Speaker 2: got to get better, especially this year where you get
- 22:09Speaker 2: Cam Coleman, who, if you don't know Cam Coleman, former
- 22:13Speaker 2: mister Ala, mister Alabama football, coming out of high school,
- 22:17Speaker 2: incredible talent, who's been buried at Auburn right, just haphazard offenses,
- 22:22Speaker 2: no ability to give him the ball. Well, now he's
- 22:23Speaker 2: got arch Man and he's got Texas. He's got all
- 22:25Speaker 2: those weapons around him, like there is. Texas has a
- 22:28Speaker 2: superstar team. They've committed all the money there's no excuse
- 22:32Speaker 2: for Texas really, not to mean there should be like
- 22:35Speaker 2: championship or Bus National Championship or bus pressure. And that's
- 22:39Speaker 2: gonna be fascinating because whenever I was bailing on Arch
- 22:42Speaker 2: last season, I was very much diving, you know, hold
- 22:45Speaker 2: on to him, guys. He's very young. Yes, he's gonna
- 22:47Speaker 2: be fine. He ends up finding his way. He enters
- 22:50Speaker 2: the offseason hot. Will we see a similar face plant
- 22:52Speaker 2: out the door, or does Texas come out and they're
- 22:55Speaker 2: just immediately rocking and rolling? What about Oregon? Oregon Dan
- 22:59Speaker 2: Lanny losing both coordinators to head coach jobs. Lapui goes
- 23:04Speaker 2: to cal to be the head coach, will Stein goes
- 23:06Speaker 2: to Kentucky to be the head coach. So all of
- 23:09Speaker 2: a sudden, you not have Dan Lanning in the area.
- 23:12Speaker 2: And in this situation that his mentors have gone through, right,
- 23:15Speaker 2: Savan could lose coordinators and replace. Kirby could lose coordinators
- 23:18Speaker 2: in replace. Can Dan Lanning do the same. It looks
- 23:21Speaker 2: like he has the team. I mean, they're they're they're
- 23:23Speaker 2: they're as talented as as ever on paper. Dante Moore
- 23:28Speaker 2: should be unreal This year. He would have been a
- 23:30Speaker 2: top five pick last year, had he decided to leave
- 23:34Speaker 2: UH and land landing someone who I think gets unfairly
- 23:37Speaker 2: painted as not being able to win the big game.
- 23:39Speaker 2: He's six and six against top ten teams. Yes, it's
- 23:43Speaker 2: a good record. Yeah, it's a fine record. Yeah you
- 23:46Speaker 2: can go, you can go down the list, and there's
- 23:48Speaker 2: there's there's something interesting with with every single team in
- 23:51Speaker 2: college football right now.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Man, you did some reading. I mean I am proud
- 23:55Speaker 1: of you. You read it. I mean you retained and
- 23:57Speaker 1: then you regurgitated that is that you took your had
- 24:00Speaker 1: off for some reason in the middle of that take sweating.
- 24:03Speaker 2: I got my Camp Paradise sweater on and it's like
- 24:06Speaker 2: ninety degrees today. Yes, I want my shout out Camp.
- 24:08Speaker 1: I gave you the record for sark against AP top
- 24:11Speaker 1: ten teams. I want you guys to guess what James
- 24:14Speaker 1: Franklin's career record is. I have it in front of
- 24:17Speaker 1: me against AP top ten teams. Okay, God, it's.
- 24:20Speaker 2: Like six and twenty or like six and twenty three
- 24:23Speaker 2: or something.
- 24:25Speaker 1: It is four and twenty one.
- 24:27Speaker 2: Oh my god, that's crazy.
- 24:32Speaker 1: So Sarka has another winning about third I don't know.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Fourteen losses to go something and.
- 24:39Speaker 2: Again it's not. It's not to say that he's bad
- 24:41Speaker 2: as Franklin, but again it is. But here's the other thing.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Is like, Penn State, I get why you fired Franklin,
- 24:48Speaker 2: that's that right there. Yes, but now you replace him
- 24:51Speaker 2: with Matt Campbell and a bunch of Iowa State players. Yep,
- 24:55Speaker 2: and you want to be better? Yes, going for the
- 24:57Speaker 2: big twelveth of the big ten. I love rock Obec
- 24:59Speaker 2: the quarterback. I had him on my top ten last
- 25:02Speaker 2: year and it didn't end up paying out quiet like that.
- 25:04Speaker 2: But I do think he's very good. But I find
- 25:07Speaker 2: like I just wonder where Penn State's expectations are at,
- 25:10Speaker 2: Like are they cool with like eight and four? Are
- 25:13Speaker 2: they thinking they need to be in the collegewall playoff?
- 25:15Speaker 2: I don't view them as a playoff team. Here's another thing, quarterbacks.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Look at last year's top five and then look at
- 25:23Speaker 2: like the Athletic just released their college quarterback tier list.
- 25:26Speaker 2: I cannot wait for the NFL tier list. It's the
- 25:29Speaker 2: fucking best day of the year when the Athletic does
- 25:31Speaker 2: their NFL tier list. But anyway, they just did their
- 25:34Speaker 2: college football one and so many of these quarterbacks that
- 25:38Speaker 2: we consider tier one. Now we're ranked in like the
- 25:41Speaker 2: twenties and thirties last year. So I'm very, very intrigued
- 25:45Speaker 2: to watch overy who are the people lurking in the shadows,
- 25:51Speaker 2: like a Byron Brown the South Florida transfer to Auburn
- 25:55Speaker 2: who last year led in total yardage, but it's at
- 25:57Speaker 2: South Florida, right, he was solid or whatever. But like
- 25:59Speaker 2: by the end of the year, are we gonna be
- 26:00Speaker 2: talking about Byron Brown for Heisman? And then last year
- 26:03Speaker 2: is all about Nusmeyer Clubnick They both sucked. Aller sucked.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Like is Manny gonna live up to it? Is Dante
- 26:10Speaker 2: More gonna live up to it? Like who's gonna fail
- 26:12Speaker 2: this year? Out of the guys that are thinking, Remember
- 26:15Speaker 2: Lenora Sellers, We fucking love Lenora Sellers. Now he's now
- 26:19Speaker 2: I think I did like an SEC quarterback list, and
- 26:21Speaker 2: I think he was like eight or nine right in
- 26:23Speaker 2: the conference. It's that So it's it's that's always really
- 26:27Speaker 2: fun to see, is which quarterbacks are going to burst
- 26:31Speaker 2: onto the scene and end up kind of defining the year.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Like Mendoza. I mean, look at Mendoza.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Yes, we'll get you out here in a second, Matt
- 26:38Speaker 1: Campbell's four and four versus ap top ten teams, so
- 26:40Speaker 1: he has seventeen more losses to go before he catches
- 26:43Speaker 1: James Franklin. Seventeen losses.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Good god, we're in Iowa State in Franklin's four and
- 26:51Speaker 2: twenty one at Penn State. Yep, that's what's sanity. Yes,
- 26:55Speaker 2: what's interesting is it's a very pro James Franklin schedule
- 26:58Speaker 2: Penn State has. I mean they play nobody, right, Oh,
- 27:03Speaker 2: that is true. I forgot about I forgot. That's a
- 27:04Speaker 2: great point, my gay, I forgot about the friendly schedule.
- 27:07Speaker 2: That's gonna help Campbell out a year. Maybe we'll be
- 27:09Speaker 2: a bit better. Yeah, that's also that. The opposite side
- 27:12Speaker 2: of that would be a team like Texas A and M,
- 27:15Speaker 2: where they were turned Marcel Reid. But they're losing their
- 27:18Speaker 2: entire offensive line, they're losing their entire defensive line, and
- 27:22Speaker 2: their schedule is significantly harder. This year. They replaced like
- 27:27Speaker 2: I can't remember the exact teams, but they replaced like
- 27:30Speaker 2: three of the bottom feeders from last year with the
- 27:32Speaker 2: top three teams, and two of them are on the road.
- 27:34Speaker 2: So A and M is a team to watch. It
- 27:35Speaker 2: can potentially implode, and then I don't know what the
- 27:37Speaker 2: fuck's going on. I don't know what's gonna happen with
- 27:40Speaker 2: Lsu Right, who knows Lane Kiffin? You know, I love
- 27:45Speaker 2: college rumors swirling around as you know, Sam Levin's coming
- 27:49Speaker 2: off the list, Frank, even people are terrified. He hasn't
- 27:51Speaker 2: look good. He's gonna have. All I know is this.
- 27:54Speaker 2: They paid a lot of money to get Lane Kiffin.
- 27:58Speaker 2: They poured about forty million dollars into this roster. We've
- 28:02Speaker 2: seen signetty what he did in Indiana, and although it's
- 28:05Speaker 2: an impossible bar to hold people to, it is the bar.
- 28:08Speaker 2: There ain't no fucking excuse in ban Rouge like Lank
- 28:12Speaker 2: Kibben has to win and he has to make the
- 28:14Speaker 2: playoffs here in year one.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Yes, I like that. I like that. I like you
- 28:18Speaker 1: demanding it. Wake up, Wake up barstool, check um out
- 28:21Speaker 1: every day FS one, check out the podcast as well,
- 28:24Speaker 1: wherever you get your podcast. He's fantastic. He's our buddy,
- 28:27Speaker 1: and he is home safely from Michigan. He survived four
- 28:30Speaker 1: days without his phone. Congratulations to you, my friend.
- 28:34Speaker 2: All right, guys, Mike gay Stu love you guys.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Have a great day, all right, We love you too.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Football is almost here, hanging there,
