- 0:00Speaker 1: Would you describe this as your typical opening round game,
- 0:03Speaker 1: A little bit of sluggish, some sluggish stuff at the
- 0:05Speaker 1: beginning because he hadn't played in two weeks, but then
- 0:07Speaker 1: you get into a little bit of a flow.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 0:09Speaker 3: I think it happens probably every year. It's interesting after
- 0:14Speaker 3: the Big East Tournament. Sometimes that break is a good
- 0:17Speaker 3: thing for teams that they need to have that off,
- 0:19Speaker 3: and we certainly did. But having that long layoff, I
- 0:23Speaker 3: do think it impacts, you know, how we were able
- 0:26Speaker 3: to come out.
- 0:26Speaker 1: To the Ashland Shade double figures, got to one thousand
- 0:30Speaker 1: points for her career eleven team with seven rebounds, and
- 0:33Speaker 1: I talked to her yesterday in the locker room about
- 0:38Speaker 1: who that third scoring option might be. But it sounds
- 0:41Speaker 1: like with the depth that you have, it can be
- 0:43Speaker 1: done by committee. Block A had fifteen today, Kaylie Hackell
- 0:46Speaker 1: had eleven. You get a consistency across the board, you
- 0:50Speaker 1: don't need that third big score when you get everybody
- 0:53Speaker 1: else contributing.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, I think there have been a lot
- 0:57Speaker 3: of questions from well, I think one person in me,
- 1:00Speaker 3: but just about ash and what her role is or
- 1:05Speaker 3: I'm not really sure, but we've got guys in our team,
- 1:07Speaker 3: like Blanca, like Ash, who are willing to do whatever
- 1:09Speaker 3: we need them to do that day, and they don't
- 1:12Speaker 3: get caught up in the things that other people get
- 1:14Speaker 3: caught up in. You know, I think Ash has made
- 1:17Speaker 3: a concerted effort to become a better rebounder on the
- 1:20Speaker 3: offensive end, and she's done that.
- 1:22Speaker 2: She never gets tired.
- 1:24Speaker 3: We don't have to take her out of the game,
- 1:26Speaker 3: and so I don't worry about Ash. I do think
- 1:29Speaker 3: that she has the potential She's shown in different games.
- 1:32Speaker 2: I think.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Oh, actually last year against Iowa State, I think she
- 1:35Speaker 3: had you know, nineteen in the first half or something
- 1:37Speaker 3: like that.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Yeah, a bunch of threes in the first half.
- 1:40Speaker 3: So you know, I think we have capable scores and
- 1:43Speaker 3: people capable of being that third score. It's been you know,
- 1:46Speaker 3: by committee, it's been Ali, it's been Ash, it's been Blanca,
- 1:49Speaker 3: it's been a lot of people.
- 1:50Speaker 2: So I think that's a benefit.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Rebecca, Oh, Rebecca, putting water on your back or getting
- 1:56Speaker 1: it cool. Speaking of offensive rebounding, last four games Big
- 2:01Speaker 1: East Tournament in today, that has been really good and
- 2:04Speaker 1: you're cashing in. You had fifty four of the Big
- 2:06Speaker 1: East tournament. You get nineteen more today and second chance points,
- 2:10Speaker 1: that's big.
- 2:11Speaker 3: That helps, you know. I think that's something we focused
- 2:13Speaker 3: on all year. We're not always going to make every shot.
- 2:16Speaker 3: And you know, today I thought we took some really
- 2:18Speaker 3: quick threes and some of that might be in an
- 2:21Speaker 3: effort to try to hurry up and blow people out.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Not necessary to do that, but I thought we got
- 2:27Speaker 3: caught up in that where once we ran our stuff,
- 2:29Speaker 3: and you know, give them credit. I thought Texas San
- 2:32Speaker 3: Antonio they were very physical and when we stood around,
- 2:35Speaker 3: they were able to be physical with us.
- 2:37Speaker 2: When we started.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Moving, moving the ball and having some people movement, it
- 2:41Speaker 3: was more difficult for them to defend.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Yeah, you could tell when things get a little stagnant
- 2:45Speaker 1: how physical they are. And by the numbers that they
- 2:46Speaker 1: put up in the American Tournament alone, I mean, no
- 2:48Speaker 1: more than fifty one points. You kind of get that sense.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Sarah Strong with five more steals today, I mean, and
- 2:56Speaker 1: you guys, I don't know if you're aware of this,
- 2:58Speaker 1: you guys have smashed the single season Steels record as
- 3:01Speaker 1: a team. I mean oliterating, I.
- 3:03Speaker 3: Don't pay attention that much, but yeah, I'm not surprised
- 3:06Speaker 3: that when I was, yeah, well, but we've also you know,
- 3:09Speaker 3: this is probably the first year in a long time
- 3:11Speaker 3: that I can remember that we pressed as much as
- 3:13Speaker 3: we've done this year. So it's not surprising, although it
- 3:18Speaker 3: is surprising when you tell me the numbers. But uh,
- 3:20Speaker 3: you know, Sarah just has a knack and she's got
- 3:23Speaker 3: quick hands, and you know, it was an interesting start
- 3:26Speaker 3: to the game with you know, Asy generally doesn't foul,
- 3:29Speaker 3: and I thought there were two questionable calls, and then
- 3:32Speaker 3: the third foul was a dumb foul on her part.
- 3:34Speaker 3: But and then KK got in three, you know, got
- 3:36Speaker 3: three fouls. And again I always tell the players this,
- 3:39Speaker 3: expect that the ref is going to make one bad call,
- 3:42Speaker 3: and you can't have a dumb one because then that
- 3:44Speaker 3: puts two and that puts you on the bench. And
- 3:46Speaker 3: in this case, it was three and they had to sit.
- 3:49Speaker 3: So you know, I told them at the start of
- 3:51Speaker 3: the second half they were well rested because neither one
- 3:54Speaker 3: of them played a whole lot in the first half.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Uh, do you have one of these two as a
- 3:57Speaker 1: scout or was the game unknown?
- 4:01Speaker 2: I had no win this weekend.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Oh nice, all right, so sorry, we'll be looking forward
- 4:07Speaker 1: to yours as long as you take care business Monday,
- 4:08Speaker 1: you've got Friday scout.
- 4:09Speaker 3: I would think, right, well, it's interesting, you know, you
- 4:12Speaker 3: try to you do your best and trying to plan
- 4:14Speaker 3: out things based on who's scouted what team before.
- 4:17Speaker 2: And all that, and you know those plans usually don't work.
- 4:22Speaker 3: So we'll see hopefully, as you said, we have a
- 4:25Speaker 3: tough one on Monday, regardless of which team plays wins.
- 4:30Speaker 3: I think you know, Syracuse is missing one of their
- 4:32Speaker 3: their better guards. But you know, they've got a post
- 4:35Speaker 3: player who's a freshman. She's you know, older as an
- 4:37Speaker 3: international student, but really good. And then obviously Audie Crooks
- 4:42Speaker 3: is really good, a big body that we've had to
- 4:45Speaker 3: play before. And they they've got another player that came
- 4:47Speaker 3: back from injury and they shoot the three. So we
- 4:50Speaker 3: we've got a you know, we don't have any bargains
- 4:53Speaker 3: coming out.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Of this game.
- 4:54Speaker 1: No, All right, how many hockey games that had you
- 4:56Speaker 1: been to prior to being watching the BU game?
- 4:58Speaker 3: Well, I went to a game last year, but I
- 5:00Speaker 3: was afraid because when I went last year, they lost,
- 5:03Speaker 3: so I was really a little concerned. And then I
- 5:06Speaker 3: left when they I left early because we were up,
- 5:09Speaker 3: and I didn't. I wanted to leave while we were
- 5:11Speaker 3: so winning, so that it couldn't be my fault.
- 5:14Speaker 2: But I love hockey. And actually we.
- 5:18Speaker 3: Have a bunch of our kids that are talking about
- 5:21Speaker 3: being season ticket holders next year.
- 5:23Speaker 2: They they enjoy it too, so it's good for them.
- 5:26Speaker 1: There, hooked, I'm telling you it's better tonight. They're right,
- 5:28Speaker 1: they do, they do, and uh, you know, I wish
- 5:31Speaker 1: I was up there, but three o'clock tip times don't there.
- 5:34Speaker 3: Hey, but you got your seatback, so this is a
- 5:36Speaker 3: much better seat than.
- 5:37Speaker 1: The other one, So win win, you know. I will
- 5:39Speaker 1: say this one knowing some of my broadcast brethren, some
- 5:43Speaker 1: of the spots that they're in, I will never complain.
- 5:45Speaker 1: I mean, one twenty one is not bad. You're like
- 5:47Speaker 1: ten twelve rows up. It's not that bad. But there's
- 5:49Speaker 1: nothing like postgame is a little bit of an issue.
- 5:52Speaker 1: We tried, we tried our best to make it work
- 5:54Speaker 1: this year.
- 5:55Speaker 2: It did, it did.
- 5:56Speaker 1: And by the way, thanks for the text the other
- 5:57Speaker 1: day through Anna.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, you know what, you guys are lucky. Is
- 6:01Speaker 3: there a number you want to give me a number?
- 6:03Speaker 3: I will call you directly when I hear things that
- 6:05Speaker 3: are incorrect, and I will talk to you guys right
- 6:08Speaker 3: on the air.
- 6:08Speaker 1: I'll give the voice of you cod Women's basketball his
- 6:10Speaker 1: cell phone number and you can take care of them.
- 6:12Speaker 2: I will, I will.
- 6:13Speaker 3: You be getting a lot of phone call because I
- 6:15Speaker 3: listen a lot and then I end up calling Anna.
- 6:17Speaker 1: I appreciate you doing that.
