- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the Birds is back. What's going on? Everybody? It's
- 0:15Speaker 1: Adam Kaplan and Jeff Mosher. It is Inside the Birds.
- 0:18Speaker 1: It's June. Can you believe it? We made it here.
- 0:20Speaker 1: It's June first, and that's exciting. And I love to
- 0:24Speaker 1: say this when it's June first, Adam, that means I
- 0:27Speaker 1: get to tell people, do you know training camp starts
- 0:29Speaker 1: next month?
- 0:30Speaker 2: Because yeah, technically yes, technically training camp.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Will start next month. So what we want to do
- 0:35Speaker 1: in this Inside the Birds podcast. Last week we had
- 0:38Speaker 1: Andrew to checko on. He was at the Eagles Ota.
- 0:41Speaker 1: There'll be another ota open to the media this week.
- 0:44Speaker 1: And last week when we had Andrew on, he gave
- 0:47Speaker 1: he was our eyes and ears for what was going
- 0:49Speaker 1: on there. And what Adam and I want to do
- 0:51Speaker 1: is now put some things further into perspective about the roster.
- 0:55Speaker 1: What we can take and say, Okay, this looks real,
- 0:58Speaker 1: So what can we expand off? What can we go
- 0:59Speaker 1: in side to let people understand about this situation as
- 1:02Speaker 1: opposed to, Hey, this is what's your favorite phrase, Adam,
- 1:05Speaker 1: experimentation and what in rotation?
- 1:07Speaker 2: Yeah, this is the story of the NFL for thirty
- 1:11Speaker 2: two teams there's things that they're not going to be
- 1:13Speaker 2: doing in August unless something happens. But it's also where
- 1:17Speaker 2: you can get younger places reps. So I remember Bill
- 1:19Speaker 2: Pollion telling me the legendary Hall of Fame Junal manager
- 1:25Speaker 2: when push came to shove. Veterans really don't need to
- 1:27Speaker 2: be hit OTAs unless it's unless it's a new offense,
- 1:30Speaker 2: unless it's a new team. Now that Eagles have a
- 1:32Speaker 2: new offense. But he just knows that the veterans don't
- 1:35Speaker 2: need the reps. But the rookies, first year players, second, third,
- 1:39Speaker 2: even fourth year place they need the reps. So it's important.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Like a guy Mark kel Bell, get him used to it.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Eventually he could be the starting right tackle or the
- 1:47Speaker 2: backup right tackle someday, so you might as well get
- 1:49Speaker 2: him started a little bit and see where he's at.
- 1:51Speaker 1: That's all mean, yeah, for sure. So I want to
- 1:55Speaker 1: ask you this. I want to sort of queue you
- 1:56Speaker 1: up with a question. There's no doubt based on what
- 1:59Speaker 1: we discussed right going into the spring camps. If you
- 2:04Speaker 1: would have asked us and question marks Eagles, one of
- 2:11Speaker 1: them would be this and the second one would be okay.
- 2:18Speaker 1: The safety spot has a little bit more clarity now
- 2:21Speaker 1: because Vic this is not experimentation. VIC is basically telling
- 2:24Speaker 1: you Cooper to Gene is the safety on base downs.
- 2:27Speaker 1: So now the question is more about who's the nickel safety.
- 2:32Speaker 1: So knowing that Adam does that, well no, I mean
- 2:37Speaker 1: like yeah, yes, yes, and well we know we know
- 2:39Speaker 1: that Cooper de Gene and Nickel is the nickel back.
- 2:41Speaker 1: It's more like who is that third safety? Who Nickel?
- 2:45Speaker 2: Wef he's plu right, who would who's.
- 2:48Speaker 1: The nickel package safety? Yes, opposite of Macouba because Cooper
- 2:55Speaker 1: will move into the spot right right.
- 2:58Speaker 2: It's so yeah, I see what you mean. Yeah, it's
- 3:00Speaker 2: it's completely changed now because of the decision to put
- 3:04Speaker 2: de Gene at safety in base and as we discussed
- 3:06Speaker 2: on the last two shows, they're going to be facing
- 3:09Speaker 2: a bunch of teams that play twelve personnel like a
- 3:11Speaker 2: lot more than you think, and Coop's gonna play safety
- 3:14Speaker 2: more an you think. So they keep that in mind.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Okay, So, knowing what we know now about the safety
- 3:20Speaker 1: situation and compared to the interior offensive line depth situation
- 3:25Speaker 1: that we've talked about a lot for this team, where
- 3:28Speaker 1: would you where would your concern be like, this is
- 3:30Speaker 1: the number one roster concern at the moment or is
- 3:32Speaker 1: it something else in your mind?
- 3:36Speaker 2: Oh boy, I would say, well, they have other concerns,
- 3:39Speaker 2: but chief among them would be into your death because
- 3:44Speaker 2: of really because of Dickerson's injury history, which has been significant.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Sure they can move Cam Jargons over, they can do that,
- 3:52Speaker 2: but he also has had a big injury history, so
- 3:54Speaker 2: that they really will let they really need to have
- 3:56Speaker 2: someone who has experienced. I know Drew Kennell could play guard,
- 3:58Speaker 2: but he's really he's really said he was of Cross
- 4:01Speaker 2: trained him to play guard, but he's released center, so
- 4:04Speaker 2: that that's a concern. But now it's safety you've got again,
- 4:09Speaker 2: it depends on the opponent. Where Degene I, it's a
- 4:12Speaker 2: heavy twelve personnel team, he's gonna play safety almost the
- 4:15Speaker 2: entire game. If it's an eleven personnel team, he's yeah,
- 4:19Speaker 2: he's not gonna play safety. So it depends on the opponent.
- 4:22Speaker 2: It's not as a big need as it was before.
- 4:24Speaker 2: It's just not it's it's in fact, it's sort of
- 4:27Speaker 2: a I'd actually say it's a lesson. It's a it's
- 4:34Speaker 2: a blow the line need. It's really not because right
- 4:36Speaker 2: now you have mccuba. I know he's coming off a
- 4:38Speaker 2: major injury, but he's back, he's practicing. You've got Degene.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Your safeties are now. Degene mccouba, Michael Carter, Marcus Apps
- 4:46Speaker 2: was Newski will see he has to make the team first, right,
- 4:49Speaker 2: and that's pretty much it. Andrew Samdels, he's he's there,
- 4:52Speaker 2: he's a fourth or fifth safety. He's not gonna play
- 4:55Speaker 2: if if someone gets it started, gets hurt there he's
- 4:57Speaker 2: not so far he hasn't permit he can play. So
- 5:00Speaker 2: they could use one more guy. But see, this is
- 5:02Speaker 2: where it's interesting. One from being a goal boy, they
- 5:05Speaker 2: better get a veteran in who started a lot of games.
- 5:08Speaker 2: You don't. It's not you can wait a while now,
- 5:10Speaker 2: it's really not. It's just not a big deal. You
- 5:12Speaker 2: can wait. How he said they're going to do it, right,
- 5:15Speaker 2: but he said it before. He did say it after
- 5:19Speaker 2: the draft. Now, had they already made the decision to
- 5:21Speaker 2: move to Gene to safety in base, you would think
- 5:28Speaker 2: he would have known by them. But they still need
- 5:29Speaker 2: one more guy. But again, it's not that big of any.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Right, That's where I'm at. They need a guy. It
- 5:35Speaker 1: doesn't have to be a guy who's gonna play seventy
- 5:37Speaker 1: eighty percent of the snaps. So it's a rotational guy.
- 5:40Speaker 1: So now we used to talk about like, hey, Donovan
- 5:42Speaker 1: Wilson's out there. He's a guy with a lot of
- 5:44Speaker 1: starting experience. I don't know, you know, the league clearly
- 5:47Speaker 1: doesn't view him the same way now, or else he'd
- 5:49Speaker 1: have a job, or maybe he's just holding it, doesn't
- 5:50Speaker 1: want to do training camp. He's a veteran. I don't know,
- 5:53Speaker 1: but I don't even see that as a guy that
- 5:55Speaker 1: they would have to go out and pay if the
- 5:57Speaker 1: guy wants to make a certain amount of money. It's
- 6:00Speaker 1: just about getting a guy in there who could just
- 6:02Speaker 1: play the position. And the way Vic spoke about Marcus
- 6:06Speaker 1: EPs makes you really believe that Vic believes can be
- 6:09Speaker 1: the number three. If Michael Carter beats him out, that's great.
- 6:11Speaker 1: I mean Carter played really well. It's not a situation
- 6:14Speaker 1: where you're forcing a guy into a role just because
- 6:18Speaker 1: you don't have anything better, kind of like we saw
- 6:20Speaker 1: last year at Corner when Desine was at Nickel.
- 6:24Speaker 2: So really honest, right now, that veteran safety is going
- 6:28Speaker 2: to be a veteran minimum guy. There's zero reason to
- 6:31Speaker 2: trade for him. Why the hell would you trade for
- 6:32Speaker 2: one at this point? Makes no sense, right, Absolutely no sense.
- 6:35Speaker 2: In fact, I know that this decision for Degene playing
- 6:39Speaker 2: safety now is only for the season. I'm not so
- 6:42Speaker 2: sure about that. We'll see that it'll play out. I'm
- 6:45Speaker 2: not so sure Vic sees him is a corner coop.
- 6:48Speaker 2: It's I'm playing it this year unless it's emergency less
- 6:51Speaker 2: if somebody gets hurt. So when when we look at
- 6:57Speaker 2: the safety situation, it's okay, like they could go into
- 7:01Speaker 2: training camp. They don't. Look the season doesn't start till September.
- 7:05Speaker 2: They could wait, okay, which a lot of teams do.
- 7:07Speaker 2: They'd like to way through their offseason. Sometimes they wait
- 7:10Speaker 2: to training camp because remember, Michael Carter is going to
- 7:12Speaker 2: factor in Epps. You mentioned let's get to training camp
- 7:16Speaker 2: and see if fix still fails that way about Epps
- 7:18Speaker 2: over Carter. I didn't quite say it that way, but
- 7:20Speaker 2: he just talked about epsmore because he's played in the
- 7:23Speaker 2: scheme before, and then he got to know him a
- 7:25Speaker 2: little bit last year. They thought he looked good when
- 7:27Speaker 2: he played. But they do have apps mccouber, Degene Carter
- 7:34Speaker 2: and then was Nowski and Andre Sam Again they're they're
- 7:37Speaker 2: back there, they're back end of the roster players, so
- 7:39Speaker 2: they could go to training camp as is. They don't
- 7:41Speaker 2: have the do anying right now, to be honest.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Right right, Let's let's examine corner here, because Andrews said
- 7:47Speaker 1: something really interesting about how Kiey Ringo was basically running
- 7:51Speaker 1: with like the way down lows, like the third string
- 7:54Speaker 1: four strings, right, So he's clearly out of the picture
- 7:57Speaker 1: and a special team's only guy, and he's really good
- 8:00Speaker 1: at special teams. So there's a very good chance will
- 8:02Speaker 1: still be on the fifty three. But if you're looking
- 8:04Speaker 1: at about a playing time depth standpoint, you know your
- 8:08Speaker 1: starters are obviously Mitchell and Wolan, and so now you're
- 8:12Speaker 1: looking at that Jonathan Jones signing as being a little
- 8:15Speaker 1: bit more key and maybe if you and again Corey
- 8:17Speaker 1: and Bennett, we'll get maybe a longer lease than Ringo
- 8:20Speaker 1: because it's just year one, first full year. But one
- 8:23Speaker 1: of those two you would love both of those two
- 8:25Speaker 1: to have a nice camp and really impress VIC. But
- 8:27Speaker 1: at this point you're hoping one of those two can.
- 8:30Speaker 2: So the projection after the top starters, after Woolan and
- 8:35Speaker 2: Mitchell is Jones is a three. Then again he turns
- 8:39Speaker 2: thirty three in September. You got to see how he
- 8:40Speaker 2: looks first. Yeah, if he looks like you could still
- 8:42Speaker 2: be the three and still play because he could play
- 8:44Speaker 2: nickel or corner. He's the three. Bennett's the four. You
- 8:47Speaker 2: hope you've got mac McWilliams. Ringo is getting in the
- 8:52Speaker 2: mago's street, but he won't play on defense at all
- 8:54Speaker 2: unless there's emergency. There's just it's been abundantly clear. He's
- 8:57Speaker 2: given a chance after chance after chance. He's exactly who
- 9:00Speaker 2: he is, who we projected three years ago when we
- 9:03Speaker 2: said he's too stiff. It's going to show up at
- 9:05Speaker 2: some point. It did. It just did. So the tape
- 9:07Speaker 2: doesn't lie. I mean, it just was well known. The
- 9:11Speaker 2: analytical data was pretty good on him. But this is
- 9:13Speaker 2: where tape is has been always will be more important
- 9:16Speaker 2: than data. Data is one, a tape is one. You
- 9:19Speaker 2: can try to combine them both for every player. There's
- 9:22Speaker 2: sometimes when the data lies. It just wasn't good enough.
- 9:26Speaker 2: The tape was not The tape was not good enough,
- 9:28Speaker 2: the data was, and it turned out not to work.
- 9:30Speaker 2: But Matt McWilliams is there who could play corner and
- 9:34Speaker 2: you could play nickel. We'll see, but we'll see it
- 9:38Speaker 2: in training camp. How that looks. So they have enough
- 9:40Speaker 2: players right now. Jonathan Jones is a big deal here
- 9:43Speaker 2: because if if Woolan gets hurt or or Butchell gets hurt,
- 9:48Speaker 2: or Wolan or Vic doesn't see what he thought he
- 9:52Speaker 2: saw on this tape study, then that's a problem and
- 9:56Speaker 2: that Jonathan Jones has to be at this point. Showed
- 9:58Speaker 2: that he could have a enough left to be a starter.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, interesting to see how the Eagles have sort
- 10:05Speaker 1: of evolved over the years and players over thirty. You
- 10:08Speaker 1: know how where it used to be like we don't
- 10:10Speaker 1: touch that. And you know, Brandon Graham's Brandon Graham can
- 10:12Speaker 1: play until he decides he doesn't want to play. They're
- 10:15Speaker 1: welcome him back no matter what. And of course, you know,
- 10:17Speaker 1: signing a thirty three year old backup cool. I'm trying
- 10:21Speaker 1: to remember the last time the Eagles signed a player
- 10:24Speaker 1: in his thirties in free agency as a backup at
- 10:28Speaker 1: like a position like that corner or safety.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Or how old was Corey Graham when they brought him in?
- 10:34Speaker 1: So see, I see that a little bit differently because
- 10:37Speaker 1: that wasn't early in free agency. That was kind of
- 10:40Speaker 1: even after the year had already started. They had some injuries.
- 10:43Speaker 1: At that point, they were functioning a little. They were
- 10:46Speaker 1: experimenting for the first time with Big Nickel, like trying
- 10:48Speaker 1: to catch up with what the other teams in the
- 10:50Speaker 1: league were doing. It was either late in Camper or
- 10:53Speaker 1: right around the season. I don't think that was like
- 10:55Speaker 1: a March signing because I think it was with was
- 10:59Speaker 1: it the Ravens they got him from. I think he
- 11:01Speaker 1: was a late wave by the Ravens.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he was released. Yeah, it wasn't way
- 11:04Speaker 2: he was released.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Right, yeah, yeah, but can you remember the last time
- 11:09Speaker 1: they signed a guy of that age in like.
- 11:12Speaker 2: March agency, because you would wigh, Typically you just because
- 11:16Speaker 2: you've more leveraged, well longer you wait those guys are
- 11:18Speaker 2: typically there are exceptions to everything, but more often than not,
- 11:23Speaker 2: the training camp or as you mentioned, you're right, the
- 11:26Speaker 2: old school way to do it is. You know what,
- 11:27Speaker 2: I really don't want to be part of their offseason.
- 11:29Speaker 2: I just just get me tell you they tells you,
- 11:31Speaker 2: just get me sign my training camp. I don't think
- 11:33Speaker 2: doing with this stuff. You know right.
- 11:35Speaker 1: I mean, I know they signed Hellodi Nada, but that again,
- 11:37Speaker 1: I don't think that was like the first week of
- 11:39Speaker 1: free agency when they signed Chris Long, he was thirty two,
- 11:43Speaker 1: so that that's an example. But I think I still
- 11:45Speaker 1: think we're talking about like run around the field positions
- 11:48Speaker 1: like cornerback, wide receive, well, I guess wide receiver. They
- 11:50Speaker 1: signed Paris Campbell, right, Well, he's not there.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Was just retired.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Oh really he did?
- 11:55Speaker 2: He? Yeah, just retired.
- 11:56Speaker 1: How about that? But I mean they were just kind
- 11:59Speaker 1: of owning when they signed Campbell and then they also
- 12:02Speaker 1: signed Ross, right, they were just sort of throwing darts here,
- 12:05Speaker 1: like they really signed They really signed Jonathan Jones to like,
- 12:10Speaker 1: you know, be a top backup if he's good enough
- 12:12Speaker 1: to be a.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Two million they guaranteed two million. That No, they he
- 12:16Speaker 2: is signed here to be the three. There's no question
- 12:18Speaker 2: about that. Corey Bennett, they gave up draft capital for him.
- 12:23Speaker 2: He didn't look he just he he came in late.
- 12:26Speaker 2: I wasn't ready, can never get the scheme down, certainly
- 12:29Speaker 2: different than he played in with the Raiders. But now
- 12:32Speaker 2: he's getting a full off season. This is it for him.
- 12:33Speaker 2: I mean, he's just got to produce, but he could run.
- 12:37Speaker 2: They did their homework on him. We'll see if it
- 12:40Speaker 2: works out. I mean, they have enough players at the
- 12:43Speaker 2: cornerback position to be competitive behind the starters. But the
- 12:46Speaker 2: question is how competitive can they be if they have
- 12:48Speaker 2: to play? Can't answer that true? True enough?
- 12:51Speaker 1: You have the last thing before we get over to offense.
- 12:53Speaker 1: On defenses, I'm still thinking about how Zach Bond was
- 12:56Speaker 1: definitely suggestive when he said that VIC has some plans
- 13:00Speaker 1: to take some things to the next level this year,
- 13:03Speaker 1: and I just wonder what.
- 13:04Speaker 2: That that It won't be blitzing. It will it won't be.
- 13:08Speaker 1: I don't think it'll be a frequency of blitzing. But
- 13:10Speaker 1: it may be he's more willing to like last year
- 13:13Speaker 1: when he wanted to throw a sim pressure na Kobe
- 13:15Speaker 1: Dean was your fourth rusher, and then somebody was dropping
- 13:18Speaker 1: without Nakobe Dean. Maybe it's Campbell, Maybe it's maybe it's
- 13:22Speaker 1: Cooper to gene from the spot that, Yeah, maybe it's one.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Maybe he's key because he has movable pieces. Maybe he
- 13:27Speaker 1: can put a joker like somebody who moves around. Again,
- 13:31Speaker 1: it's a four man rush most time, but you can
- 13:34Speaker 1: use guys and align them differently and rush from a
- 13:37Speaker 1: different angle and just try to confuse the quarterback just
- 13:40Speaker 1: a little bit more. Or maybe it's as simple as
- 13:42Speaker 1: taking your safeties, rolling him down to one safety, but
- 13:45Speaker 1: then rolling right back to a two safety look right
- 13:48Speaker 1: at the post snap. I'm just I'm interested to see
- 13:50Speaker 1: what it means.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's all about trust. If he trusts
- 13:54Speaker 2: Willan with with the length that he and Mitchell have.
- 13:58Speaker 2: And obviously you got to see what safety looks like.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Coop now playing a new position. There's a new position
- 14:03Speaker 2: for him, so playing in safety, I know, I know
- 14:05Speaker 2: of someone who uh graded the Eagles tape told me
- 14:08Speaker 2: he goes. You know, there's there's short times the way
- 14:10Speaker 2: that vic uses him. He's sort of like a dynamic Nichol.
- 14:14Speaker 2: He's used differently than most Nichols. Could almost say he's
- 14:16Speaker 2: a safety the way they used them, but he wasn't
- 14:18Speaker 2: technically right. Now you know, he's actually gonna play it.
- 14:21Speaker 2: So that's gonna be fascinating because there are a lot
- 14:23Speaker 2: of moving parts here because of dedgin't at safety. And
- 14:27Speaker 2: then okay, as you mentioned earlier, okay, well what do
- 14:29Speaker 2: they do when in certain formations if coop is here?
- 14:35Speaker 2: What are they doing elsewhere? Right now? You've got Grenard Grenard.
- 14:40Speaker 2: It's a different type of edge than they had they
- 14:42Speaker 2: they've had. He's certainly different than Jalen Phillips. I'm a
- 14:46Speaker 2: size component. They're super deep at edge, super way too deep.
- 14:50Speaker 2: They need to vix Vic with the Niners play three edges,
- 14:53Speaker 2: as I was told, and he's doing it here with
- 14:55Speaker 2: the Eagles, so they've overkilled the edge situation. But yeah,
- 15:00Speaker 2: the good thing is, look, he could play more four down.
- 15:02Speaker 2: He could play four down, he could doesn't have to
- 15:04Speaker 2: play many five man for who knows like that? That's
- 15:07Speaker 2: something else. I mean, my ears perked up when Bond
- 15:11Speaker 2: said that. I didn't know. You know, you could only
- 15:13Speaker 2: go by what he said and then you look for it.
- 15:17Speaker 2: We're not gonna really tell at OTA's as much as
- 15:20Speaker 2: when they go with the regular defense in training camp.
- 15:23Speaker 2: That's when it's that's when you know.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Yeah, by the way, last year he played more man
- 15:28Speaker 1: coverage than the year before. I know some people when
- 15:31Speaker 1: you hear that means you think you're talking about blitzing. No,
- 15:34Speaker 1: you can just play man coverage behind your four man rush.
- 15:37Speaker 1: And he with Woolen in place of Dori Jackson. Now,
- 15:41Speaker 1: maybe he does play a little bit more man coverage,
- 15:45Speaker 1: which just gives you know, tighter close you know, you're
- 15:48Speaker 1: you get tighter coverage against these good quarterbacks and receivers
- 15:51Speaker 1: and you feel comfortable and you can do different things
- 15:53Speaker 1: up front if you want. So it just gives him
- 15:55Speaker 1: a lot more optionality.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Mm hmm, yeah, I mean it's the defense is potentially
- 16:02Speaker 2: line is deep, even with with Dean signing elsewhere. Now,
- 16:09Speaker 2: obviously they have to get through John Campbell's injury situation.
- 16:11Speaker 2: But with Bond and Campbell's your starters for now, they're
- 16:14Speaker 2: going to go young. They haven't signed a veteran yet.
- 16:16Speaker 2: If they do it all, you've got trot Junior who's
- 16:18Speaker 2: done well in limited time and we know he's practiced well.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Trotu and or Mandan Taylor Martin, he's come back from
- 16:24Speaker 2: major injury. So the question is kind of even could
- 16:27Speaker 2: even be on the roster of the season. It's gonna
- 16:28Speaker 2: be very hard chance. Campbell and Bobby King coach with
- 16:32Speaker 2: the Titans. He's got good length, a lot of injuries.
- 16:35Speaker 2: They're okay at ILB, they're okay in terms of it's
- 16:39Speaker 2: just sort of untested tested death. And would I give
- 16:42Speaker 2: Howie credit for we had that stat two years ago.
- 16:45Speaker 2: They're the only NFL team to don't have a vested
- 16:47Speaker 2: veteran at defensive tackle. So is not a vested veteran then, right,
- 16:52Speaker 2: So he's shown the willness to go younger than most
- 16:55Speaker 2: teams would do. So don't discount that at ILB behind
- 16:58Speaker 2: the starters.
- 16:59Speaker 1: I remember we were shocked at that at the time,
- 17:02Speaker 1: knowing how much the Eagles value like veteran dts and
- 17:04Speaker 1: having guys there that that that it turned out for
- 17:07Speaker 1: the best for them. It wor it did all right.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Uh.

- 18:19Speaker 1: Cammed inn Apothecary top quality cannabis, great prices and an
- 18:24Speaker 1: experience made for Philly fans twenty one and up. All right, offensively,
- 18:28Speaker 1: I think this falls unto your experimentation category, or as
- 18:33Speaker 1: you said earlier in the show, Miles hitting playing left
- 18:37Speaker 1: guard interesting. Definitely in the experimentation I understand by the
- 18:41Speaker 1: way they got seven tackles, so you do have to
- 18:44Speaker 1: do a little bit of moving around, but very interesting.
- 18:47Speaker 2: I thought, well, again, we've been talking about this for
- 18:51Speaker 2: three months. They have to figure out who the backup
- 18:55Speaker 2: guards are. Michael marsh will almost certainly be on the team.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Eustraft the six round pick. He's got ways to go. Yeah,
- 19:00Speaker 2: Kennell is really a center who they're cross training at guard.
- 19:05Speaker 2: Willie Lampa played garden center. He's a long shot to
- 19:08Speaker 2: make the team m hm U. But there's an opening
- 19:12Speaker 2: at guard and to me, just get it gives Miles Hinton.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Miles Hinden is not a lot to make the team.
- 19:19Speaker 1: He's just not right.
- 19:21Speaker 2: What I find interesting and it's scouting report we've we
- 19:23Speaker 2: got from within one club, they caught two clubs actually
- 19:26Speaker 2: agreed on it the way they saw it with maybe
- 19:29Speaker 2: the furbage was different. But the big issue for him
- 19:32Speaker 2: was he passive as a tackle.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Mm hm.
- 19:36Speaker 2: It's funny. My lot was a little bit because he
- 19:38Speaker 2: had to learn how to play football that wasn't rugby.
- 19:40Speaker 2: But Hinton's is not the most aggressive guy. Well, if
- 19:44Speaker 2: you're playing and you're playing inside, you got to be aggressive, yes,
- 19:48Speaker 2: and that's that to me is a concern. So I
- 19:51Speaker 2: get it. They're cross training him. They want to see
- 19:52Speaker 2: if he can do it because if it looks good enough,
- 19:56Speaker 2: and it looks good for these practices in the mandatory camp,
- 20:00Speaker 2: he now could he's been cross trained and he bring
- 20:03Speaker 2: him to train camp. This could be real. Yeah, experimentation
- 20:07Speaker 2: and rotation. That's what I call off season practices. Absolutely
- 20:10Speaker 2: do not make any bold statements. We make note of everything.
- 20:13Speaker 2: We make absolutely no definitive statements. It's it's ridiculous too
- 20:16Speaker 2: unless the coach says that it's permanent, like Vic said
- 20:19Speaker 2: with Coop, no more corner safety and nickel.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's interesting that it took Hinton, who's always
- 20:25Speaker 1: been a tackle experiment with him at guard. Yet peers
- 20:29Speaker 1: who they Holland Pierce, the huge three hundred and sixty
- 20:33Speaker 1: pound massive guy from Rutgers right who last year they
- 20:35Speaker 1: were trying to play at guard or cross train of guard.
- 20:38Speaker 1: They I believe he only took tackle snaps in the
- 20:42Speaker 1: regional as they may be done with the experimentation of
- 20:45Speaker 1: that of him as a guard.
- 20:46Speaker 2: One practice of the media soul. So this is another
- 20:48Speaker 2: reason why you have to be careful. The media only
- 20:50Speaker 2: sees one late. These are so lightly practices yep. So
- 20:54Speaker 2: like the manic mandatory camp is exactly the same. Yeah,
- 20:58Speaker 2: the differences, everyone's got to be there, right, and so
- 21:02Speaker 2: last practice is for the the the rookies and undrafted
- 21:05Speaker 2: free agents and young players to make an impression before
- 21:08Speaker 2: training camp starts. But the practice I was told are
- 21:10Speaker 2: exactly the same. There's literally no difference. Mm hmm, folks
- 21:14Speaker 2: understand that.
- 21:16Speaker 1: All right, to close it off, we're getting closed. I
- 21:19Speaker 1: mean today is June first, so technically the old June
- 21:23Speaker 1: first deadline is upon us, and that obviously is going
- 21:27Speaker 1: to uh, you know, bring the microscope around AJ Brown,
- 21:32Speaker 1: So we'll have to see what goes on there, and
- 21:34Speaker 1: obviously we will keep everybody updated with that situation. But yeah,
- 21:39Speaker 1: get used to I envision. I'm really curious training camp goes.
- 21:44Speaker 1: I I really feel like there's an opportunity for Dantavian
- 21:47Speaker 1: Wicks now, as the guy who has the body of
- 21:50Speaker 1: a true ex to really you know, get in that poside.
- 21:52Speaker 1: I know he can play inside and know we can
- 21:54Speaker 1: play anywhere, but the opportunity will be there for him
- 21:56Speaker 1: to really establish himself there.
- 21:58Speaker 2: All right, Two things, the AJ Brown trade just for
- 22:02Speaker 2: salary cap relief cannot happen until Tuesday, number one, And
- 22:05Speaker 2: there's no deadline. It doesn't have They could take as
- 22:07Speaker 2: long as they.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Want, right, Why wouldn't you take longer if your thought that,
- 22:11Speaker 1: you know, but.
- 22:12Speaker 2: Here's why the Patriots won't wanted to drag on. You'd
- 22:15Speaker 2: like to get him in with his new quarterback, Drake
- 22:20Speaker 2: May by their mandatory camp just let him. It's why
- 22:23Speaker 2: last year I remember talking to Steelers that they really
- 22:26Speaker 2: wanted Rogers in before the end of the off season,
- 22:28Speaker 2: just to get him used to get with a past
- 22:31Speaker 2: target group. Metcalf. I know he'd worked out with him before,
- 22:34Speaker 2: but you want him there, right, You want him there,
- 22:37Speaker 2: you know? And and and AJ Yeah he'll be if
- 22:41Speaker 2: it goes down like we think it's gonna go down,
- 22:43Speaker 2: he'll be with Vrabel again. And he knows a lot
- 22:46Speaker 2: of those coaches. We put this out three years ago.
- 22:48Speaker 2: They the Patriots actually called the Eagles Ray J. Brown
- 22:52Speaker 2: as well before Rabel got there. To be clear, it
- 22:53Speaker 2: had nothing to do with Rabel. They wasn't even on
- 22:55Speaker 2: the radar then, so uh and then yeah, it's it's
- 23:00Speaker 2: gonna be interesting to see because Wicks has got He's
- 23:03Speaker 2: not the player obviously of a J but I always
- 23:07Speaker 2: found it interesting. And Siriani is one of the few
- 23:10Speaker 2: coaches will say this. He doesn't call it X and
- 23:14Speaker 2: Z Ex's the single side receiver, the quote unquote number
- 23:17Speaker 2: one receiver, although by the way, not every X receiver's
- 23:20Speaker 2: you're number one, So there's the there's theser number one?
- 23:22Speaker 1: Correct?
- 23:22Speaker 2: He likes it inside and outside receivers. Ye okay, okay, fine,
- 23:28Speaker 2: we'll take him out of his word and we'll have
- 23:30Speaker 2: to watch this in training camp. Does does he like
- 23:35Speaker 2: if Wix and Smith and Hollywood Brown and others are
- 23:41Speaker 2: those your outside receivers? Does can Lemon play outside? He's
- 23:44Speaker 2: really is He's really a slot who could play little
- 23:47Speaker 2: of the Z is what team told me. So I'm
- 23:50Speaker 2: interested to see what what what changes? You know? And
- 23:52Speaker 2: then there here's the thing, folks, I'm just telling you.
- 23:54Speaker 2: If it goes down like we think it, Browns traded
- 23:57Speaker 2: the past, target group is gonna be Okay. Does the
- 24:00Speaker 2: quarterback get the football quickly? Does he get does he
- 24:04Speaker 2: master this offense? Well, we're not going to know that
- 24:06Speaker 2: until we get through training camp. I'm just telling you
- 24:09Speaker 2: if hurts play, if he if he plays on time
- 24:12Speaker 2: like he should have been for the last couple of years,
- 24:13Speaker 2: but he didn't always do it. But if he does it, yes,
- 24:17Speaker 2: the group overall is not as good. But with a
- 24:19Speaker 2: great play caller and a really good quarterback play it
- 24:23Speaker 2: could be very very good. You'll be surprised, especially if they.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Can get the run game going. I mean, if they
- 24:28Speaker 1: can marry a real effective run game with a play
- 24:30Speaker 1: action pass game, that can be a real big asset.
- 24:33Speaker 2: Well. But again, play action, as Kevin Spanci said, you
- 24:36Speaker 2: don't have to have a like you could have. Play
- 24:40Speaker 2: action is not predicated on how great you run the
- 24:42Speaker 2: ball in certain things. You you can do it at anytime. Correct.
- 24:45Speaker 2: He kind of made that clear that that he's not
- 24:47Speaker 2: on social media, but.
- 24:48Speaker 1: Right a lot of people i'lllamend it saying a great
- 24:51Speaker 1: run game with what a good downhill under center play
- 24:55Speaker 1: action game that that's what I mean, going under center
- 24:58Speaker 1: and having them because there's that's a better that's coming.
- 25:01Speaker 1: And just the shotgun play action yes, oh.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Oh the coas Heals told us that I don't know
- 25:05Speaker 2: how many times based on his tape study just from
- 25:09Speaker 2: his eyes, it's play action works so much better under
- 25:14Speaker 2: center than than with the quarterback and shotgun. And by
- 25:17Speaker 2: the way, Barkley, you should hit. His press conference was really.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Good last week. It was well. He went and talked.
- 25:21Speaker 2: About getting the play action and the Running Game under Center,
- 25:26Speaker 2: and and and and Shotgun. I thought it was really good.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Yeah, very very good stuff. All right, it'll be a
- 25:31Speaker 1: really big week here potentially here in Philadelphia. We got
- 25:35Speaker 1: June first, we got another O t A that'll be
- 25:38Speaker 1: open to the media, so we'll have a lot to
- 25:40Speaker 1: cover this week on Inside the Birds. That's gonna do
- 25:44Speaker 1: it for this episode of Inside the Birds, the Leading Podcast,
