- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hello and welcome back.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: We're on part two for the straw the history about the changing Australian sports.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Let's drive into it.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: I can't wait to share there's so much to cover.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Here we go.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: Today I'll be sharing what teams I have are playing in today's MBL.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Now I do apologise, one of the teams were hopefully they're all there, but we do start off the VFL, the regional competition before the AFL came in and then the National Basketball League will share a bit of an AFLW who's playing there.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: But before we drive deeply into it, if you're new, welcome aboard.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Make sure you subscribe, share, make sure you just really share because there's so much fun episodes to come.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: We'll also, the most important, if you can like this, if you like it, make sure you do and hit that notification you do not miss an episode.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: For Aaron Dell, let's get on to it.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: So as I mentioned today, we'll be sharing what teams are playing in the MBL, which I'll be sharing very shortly.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: But before we also go back, which ovals used to be hosts from all AFL teams are not present but the past.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: So if I don't share all of them, I do apologise.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: I'm only going to do the only the most like the most popular ones.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: So the original competition was the Victorian Football League, which is a league, it's still today, but not in what they call today Australian Football League.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Known for AFL today.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: We'll now share all of that.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: Like I said, there is so much.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: And then we'll share tens we missed from part one from the basketball.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: So very much, very simple.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Now I hope you enjoy it much as let's now deepen into drive as we start.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: What stadiums, what ovals didn't been used today in the AFL.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: They are being using in the AFLW.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: So, well, the history of football park Amy Stadium, Westlake, the suburb in Adelaide.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: This suburb held 51,240 over the years, mainly part of Amy Stadium, which we didn't or we don't see that very often.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: Now, it's not oval for competition, that's what I meant.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: But oval traditional in football history that from the SNFL and the AFL Crows in Power or A Cruz and Port Adelaide.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Wow, that's all I can say.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: So yeah, it's so many good memories.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: Watching the Crows, Adelaide Cruz, and seeing the Nord Red Legs winning a few apprenticeships in my time as well.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: And that's losing one grand final.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: They move into the LA Division, which that's a different day, unfortunately.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: We are here for the Alden.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: So there were some great memories.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: I think it was the start I remember going to the very last game, and it was against the Melbourne Demons, and LA won that game.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: And that was such a gorgeous day, and the history icon to it.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: It's great to have football park memories as a child.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: Do you remember that Ival?
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: Stadium or park?
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: So we're driving from now into Melbourne, known for Princess Park.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: Now, there's a few names and you may remember.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna share the when that was, and so let's get drive into it.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: So it is a very unusual.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: There's four names today.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: So Octus, Octaside or Octus is our Octostadium now.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: Two different icons.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: One in Perth is Octostadium today.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: It's one of the biggest 60,000.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: This isn't this is held 62,000.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: Now, this is how it, like it's a suburb in Melbourne.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: So that was from 1994 to 2004.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: There is a completely big change of like grandstands and all that, a bit more modern.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: MC Labour Park from 2007 to 2008.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: It's only one year.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: Then it was Visa Park 2009 to 2015.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: Six years, pretty good.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: And in present of today, I at Com Park, the home of Carlton, they have a all very modern lies from 2015 to present.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: It means now.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: This oval is the home for Carlton Footy Club where the KFLW do play a lot of their clubs at this oval.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: This is, like I mentioned, this is stadium or oval as hell, 62,986 is the match.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: So a pretty good, decent big stadium to host grand finals generally.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: So we go to Amado Victorian team, Richmond Tigers, Rud Road, Oval, Park Road, right next to the MCG, the Richmond Tigers Footy Club.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: This is where there's been changes over the years.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: Well, what I'm gonna share right now is Mi Bank Center from 2011 to 2016, and from 2017 to now is Swimburn Center.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: It's a Richmond Tigers host their games.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: And I think that's really important to still host games there because this is a really important for the Richmond Tigers stadium.
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: We go into the next one, which is the Sydney Olympic Park.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: We come to a way of wording it, Sa Stadium, Sydney Olympic Park.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: The name has changed over the years, which was Telste Stadium from 2002 to 2007, ANZ Stadium 2008 to 2016.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: The stadium does not been used for Aussie Wolves, but does held 82,500, which is such a good effort.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: And watch the Sydney Swans do used to play in the 2000 days.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: So a pretty good effort.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: We go to the West of the Western Australia and perhaps semi-oval.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: Do you remember this oval?
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: It used to be Heaterson's Stavium from 2011 to 2014 and on to two years.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: Diamond Stabium from 2015 to 2017.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: Two years.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: This oval was held for 2009-22 from started back in 1987 to 2017 over two major oval names.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: But it was Subi Oval, which is a suburb in uh Western Australia.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: Now, do you like this so far?
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: Well, make sure you put your comments down below as well.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: What is your favorite memory from these ovals?
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: There's more to come.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: I'll share very at the end of the episode.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Make sure you subscribe and like as well.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: Love to hear from you.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: So, well, we do come to the next one and we go to Wavery Park, Bullmanizer's AFL Park.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: The oval for VFL Park was the 1917 to 1991.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: The stadium house 78,009 T 2935 over the years.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: This stamine we come and we continue on.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: It's the Western Bulldogs, which is Western Oval, which is witten the home of the Western Bulldogs, where the AFLW, Western Bulldogs team, do host their games during the AFW season.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: This is still runs from today with a 42,354, which is a great crowd capacity.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: A good cat means good crowd.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: Let's say that.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: Where the final oval we will share is Windy Hill, which is the Essendons registration reserved.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: This oval is home of the Essendon Bombers Footy Club, which is also a training base.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: I've been to this oval as well.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: Watching the Essendon Bombers train over 10 years.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: So coming up 10 years, so about eight, nine years ago.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: So I remember this oval.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: But AVW do host their games here for the Essinon Bombers.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: Well, that's all from the past Ovals.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: What do you remember?
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: And I remember a few, but I never went to all of them.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: Maybe one major one was in LA and one in Per uh LA.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: Well, sorry, Melbourne.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: So, well, before we go, passing on to the MBL, which is so much exciting news.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: Subscribe and like if you like this.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: Comments what was your favorite memory of what I just mentioned.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: I just enable a couple.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: Love to hear from you.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: Thank you for your support, and let's continue on.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: We come and we now move on to the National Basketball League, which is the Australian Basketball League.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: Well, I'm gonna do my best to make this short and sweet and make it all fun as well.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: We start with the LA Foods.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: This is the home of basketball in South Australia.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: What history?
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: We can name the Adelaide City Eagles.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: That's it.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: One season.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: The Adelaide City Eagles.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: Now, there's not just not the start.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: Really, the Eagles from it's very common, but it's not SA.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: Then we came to 1983, which is now present today, the Adelaide 36s.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: The original stadium was called Clipsal Power House, which I still call it from today.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: It is in a suburb of in Adelaide, Finden, where all the Adelaide and Adelaide Lightning used to play their basketball in the good old days.
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: Well, I remember, do you remember when Adelaide won their championship days?
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: Do you remember that in a big way?
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: I'll be sharing some great legends in just a moment.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: But it was a very difficult time.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: They were struggling, and then Phil Smythe really came in, a young fella just finishing playing basketball and came as the NBL's best well in that timer in for the basketball National Basketball League.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: So there's some great championship players play for this team, which is A.I.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: Green, Brett Maher, Mark Davis, and Phil Smythe was Kevin Brooks.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: Really funnel.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: Do you remember?
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: There's the name legends.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: There's Paul Russ.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: Do you remember those?
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: I remembered as a child.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: I used to run out with the players and sit on the sideline.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: And the very silly thing, eyes on the ball.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: I got my nose whack.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: So there you go.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: I remember waiting and signed from players, trying to get them attention.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: And that is all professionalized.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: But from today, Adelaide 36ers are now moved from Finland to the city of Adelaide, Adelaide Entertainment Center, where it's all sold out mostly each game.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: Whereas in the last few seasons, which it's just strong to say.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: Mike Wells is the coach for the Adelaide 36ers and done so well in the offseason.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: Signing Bryce Cotton, you know, there's some there's more players to that.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: But signing up import that he can improve this team and he's done that early in the year.
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: Go and check out the MBL series.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: It's all on my well, on my YouTube, but also my podcast.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: So wherever you get your podcast, make sure you do listen because every download does also help.
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: So hoping and good things are coming as well.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: But I'll give you a little bit of the the achievements Adelaide's done.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: Four MBL championships.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: Now all from the early 2000s.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: Adlee Food Sixers were also so close to being perfect over almost eight years, nine years?
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: So could Adelaide find a way to make a miracle?
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: Let's find out soon enough.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: The next team from the MBL is Sydney Kings.
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: The history of team has come and gone.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: It's now returned.
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: They entered the NBL 1988.
- 12:30SPEAKER_00: This is almost 40 years ago, 30, 30 or 40 years ago, and left.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: Absolute disappointment 20 years ago.
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: Then they came back a few years later.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: There's something that Sydney Kings have is by championship.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: From 2003, 04, 05, NOR, then returning 2022 and 2023.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: 17 years later, back-to-back chance.
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: Does Sydney have changed a lot since joining the NBL again?
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: I think so.
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: They got talent, they got a great coach and a great culture, all the best.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: It was coming with Brisbane bullets.
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: The 40 years history.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: Still part of the NBL, but this is the disappointing part.
- 13:16SPEAKER_00: They were out of the NBL competition for eight seasons, eight years, whatever word you like to call it.
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: Then returned to the NBL.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: Once again, they have not been the best.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: So they'll join the NBL 1979, left 2008, eight years later, 2016.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: This will be their ninth coming season since return.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: And no, not make the well, what you call it, the grand final series.
- 13:45SPEAKER_00: Brisbane has won free championships 1985, 1987, and 2007.
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: Hoping to see Brisbane playing finals again very soon.
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: We now come to the team of New Zealand Breakers.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: They are the era of 2003 joining the MBL.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: So the Australian-New Zealand competition are very very icon and very respectfully.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: They have won full championships from 2011, 2012, 2013, three in a row, then Harry Break to 2015.
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: This has been their tenth season since they have not won a championship.
- 14:20SPEAKER_00: They are trying to get everything to make New Zealand breakers good again.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: Hosting their games at Spank Arena in Auckland, New Zealand.
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: Alright, the straw here we go to Cairns High Pans.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: Now they joined in 1999.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: It's what a season has been.
- 14:36SPEAKER_00: This team is the north of Queensland.
- 14:39SPEAKER_00: We only got the one Queensland team used to be Townsville as well.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: Now the host gains, they play as a company at center and house 5,300.
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: In the history of Cairns joining the NBL, they have won emate grand finals but never won one.
- 14:56SPEAKER_00: No championships on Whisker.
- 14:58SPEAKER_00: Can they do it?
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: And I'll love to see one well, hopefully, in the next few seasons.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: Hoping that day will happen soon.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: So all the best Kent Highbans for the rest of the remaining NBL season.
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: We come to the next team with we have the Perth Wildcats.
- 15:15SPEAKER_00: Perf Wildcats entered the NBO in 1982, so it's been a very 43 years.
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: The Western State Wildcat was the original name, but the LA City Eagles.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: Then the Py Wildcats came in saying name Perth in 1984.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: So it's been a very, very difficult but sensational season of careers.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: The Perth Wildcats winning championships are the most ever in the history, and the most have won.
- 15:44SPEAKER_00: How many of the Perth Wildcats won?
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna share right now ten.
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: Ten championships.
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: Incredible.
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: The years were 1990, 91, 95, 2000, 2010, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, or 2019, 2020.
- 15:59SPEAKER_00: They have not won since in five years.
- 16:01SPEAKER_00: Incredible.
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: So a lot of championships in that in that time.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: But that was a big, big gap.
- 16:07SPEAKER_00: Ten years ago, they've done it.
- 16:09SPEAKER_00: But I gotta say right now, Perth are not gonna be easy after their rebuilding.
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: They do play at the RAC arena, known for the jungle.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: One hardest teams to play is perf.
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: When you're winning, well, it feels great.
- 16:23SPEAKER_00: But when you are really traveling to Perth's not easy, and it's common.
- 16:27SPEAKER_00: It doesn't matter where you play, it doesn't matter you play any sports you do.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: It is never easy.
- 16:33SPEAKER_00: We move to the final team.
- 16:35SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna share the nine for Melbourne Tigers.
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: That's it.
- 16:38SPEAKER_00: The nine for the Melbourne United.
- 16:40SPEAKER_00: I may share this before.
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: I may as well do it again in the Melbourne United version.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: So the Melbourne United joined back in 2014.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: This will be the 11th season, winning two championships.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: They play at John Cane Arena for 10,500.
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: That's basically all I'm gonna share there.
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: That's not much to share, but they got a great team.
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: They've been very good ever since Melbourne United.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: But I think Melbourne Tiger will a better team with Andrew Gaze, the legend.
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: There's so many legends I can say.
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: Brett Mars, well, Vanilla Foo Sixers Days.
- 17:11SPEAKER_00: So that's all.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: I hope you enjoyed the NBOA film, all the history about changing Australian sport.
- 17:18SPEAKER_00: Well, that is all what I am going to share today.

- 17:54SPEAKER_00: There's fun episodes already out.
