- 0:00Speaker 1: It brings until you take that chance on it.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Who are you hiring, bro? That's what I came here for.
- 0:04Speaker 2: I came here for the whiteboard. Get out the whiteboard, bro.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Arlen, I want to hear from you. Who am I hiring?
- 0:11Speaker 1: Let's go, man. I'm going to go Jimbo, man. I'm
- 0:14Speaker 1: going to go Jimbo. I like Jimbo. The reason why
- 0:18Speaker 1: I like it is, well, I think he would be
- 0:21Speaker 1: a good candidate for multiple reasons. Let's say one. What
- 0:24Speaker 1: is our money looking like? If you're going to be
- 0:26Speaker 1: all in, you're going to pay $ 40 million to Mike
- 0:28Speaker 1: and you're going to pay another buyout to a guy
- 0:30Speaker 1: that's already coaching $ 40 million. If you got a blank checkbook,
- 0:33Speaker 1: let's go do it. This, that, and third. Go get
- 0:35Speaker 1: whoever the fuck you want to because you can pay
- 0:37Speaker 1: $ 40 to Mike, $ 40 to clear whoever out and then
- 0:40Speaker 1: pay the new staff and then have NIL money if
- 0:43Speaker 1: you have that type of money. If you're in a
- 0:44Speaker 1: situation to where, okay, we're kind of handicapped a little
- 0:47Speaker 1: bit and we got to maneuver in a certain way,
- 0:52Speaker 1: you can pay him $ 4 million. You're getting $ 7. 5 million
- 0:54Speaker 1: and pay him $ 4 million. You don't have to buy
- 0:58Speaker 1: out a new coach. Say, for instance, you go steal
- 1:02Speaker 1: Dan Landon from Oregon. You don't have to pay an
- 1:04Speaker 1: Oregon buyer or whatever it may be. You could focus
- 1:07Speaker 1: that money on a new staff and be staff heavy
- 1:09Speaker 1: and NIL competent heavy, this, that, and third. If you're
- 1:12Speaker 1: tied up from a money standpoint. And what I'm hearing, man,
- 1:14Speaker 1: like this, and this is what I'm hearing. This is
- 1:17Speaker 1: just third-hand information. Like he's, He's putting together a pretty
- 1:20Speaker 1: solid damn staff, and we're trying to put together a
- 1:23Speaker 1: pretty solid staff. We all know he's going for the job,
- 1:25Speaker 1: and he wants it. And he's been reaching out to
- 1:27Speaker 1: high school coaches in certain areas and things like that,
- 1:30Speaker 1: trying to build those relationships again if the situation was
- 1:35Speaker 1: to open up. So I think he would be a
- 1:36Speaker 1: good candidate. I like this is a guy that wanted
- 1:41Speaker 1: out last year from USC. If Baylor would have opened up,
- 1:44Speaker 1: I believe he would have been the Baylor coach 100%
- 1:46Speaker 1: there to fire Dave Aranda. I wouldn't have an issue
- 1:48Speaker 1: with Lincoln Rowley.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Reason being, we know offense is going to be explosive.
- 1:53Speaker 1: It's going to be explosive. You know how to recruit quarterbacks,
- 1:55Speaker 1: develop coach quarterbacks. That's the main thing in college football.
- 1:58Speaker 1: If you have a good quarterback, you can kind of
- 1:59Speaker 1: go from there, right? Trenches. He knows how to recruit
- 2:03Speaker 1: the trenches. I've been a big– I guess you could
- 2:07Speaker 1: say I've been a big critic of Lincoln Riley as
- 2:10Speaker 1: far as his recruiting prowess as far as where he's
- 2:13Speaker 1: focusing at. I feel like you should focus in California,
- 2:17Speaker 1: that West Coast area when– USC was peak. Pete Carroll
- 2:21Speaker 1: dominated the West Coast, right? Lincoln Riley has consistent. Tapped
- 2:25Speaker 1: into Georgia. Tapped into Florida. The Southeast as far as recruiting.
- 2:29Speaker 1: He's had some whiffs. He had some wins as well, too.
- 2:31Speaker 1: He had a lot of defensive linemen. So I say this.
- 2:34Speaker 1: He knows where the talent is. He knows where the
- 2:36Speaker 1: talent is. And even though he's on the West Coast,
- 2:38Speaker 1: he's still recruiting the trenches very good from the Southeast.
- 2:41Speaker 1: So you bring that back to the Southeast, there's no
- 2:44Speaker 1: doubt in my mind that those South Georgia kids that
- 2:46Speaker 1: were born in the they'll be staying in Florida from
- 2:49Speaker 1: a defensive line standpoint. And then when it be in
- 2:51Speaker 1: Florida State, I know the big question is his defensive coordinator.
- 2:53Speaker 1: He can hire a defensive coordinator as long as he
- 2:55Speaker 1: recruits the trenches well. He can bring in a guy
- 2:57Speaker 1: that's a competent D.C. in Florida, at Florida State, that
- 3:00Speaker 1: can be pretty good from a defensive standpoint. So I
- 3:02Speaker 1: think Lincoln would be a guy. I know a lot
- 3:04Speaker 1: of people feel like that's not obtainable, but I really
- 3:06Speaker 1: think it would be a mutual interest as far as
- 3:09Speaker 1: coming back to the South for Lincoln Riley. I think
- 3:12Speaker 1: it would be a good idea as well.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Do you like Rhett? You think Rhett would be good?
- 3:17Speaker 1: I like Rhett. I like Rhett. I do. I like Rhett.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Would he leave SMU?
- 3:22Speaker 3: Wouldn't his buyout be insane, though? Didn't he just sign
- 3:25Speaker 3: an extension?
- 3:26Speaker 1: I think he did sign an extension, so that would
- 3:28Speaker 1: be a question.
- 3:29Speaker 2: I don't think his buyout is crazy to leave. I
- 3:31Speaker 2: don't know if you can claw that real quick, Harlan.
- 3:34Speaker 2: The thing about SMU, I know the perceptions they got
- 3:39Speaker 2: out of this money. You know they've never finished with
- 3:40Speaker 2: a top 30 class.
- 3:42Speaker 1: So that's the thing, too.
- 3:43Speaker 2: I don't think they're spending that money like we think.
- 3:45Speaker 2: To the point.
- 3:46Speaker 1: And even within the portal, they haven't had a big
- 3:49Speaker 1: transfer portal.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Now, like, maybe we go after them hard and they
- 3:54Speaker 2: give them $ 12 million a year or something crazy. You know, like,
- 3:57Speaker 2: maybe they do up and spend it. But, like, all
- 4:00Speaker 2: this money that we think about SMU having, I ain't
- 4:03Speaker 2: seen them flaunting it yet. They ain't pulled a Texas
- 4:04Speaker 2: Tech yet. And I think we think about them like
- 4:08Speaker 2: they're Texas Tech.
- 4:09Speaker 1: You're talking about the Tony Express days.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Right. And they're just– now, I know they got it.
- 4:14Speaker 2: But I don't think they're spinning it like– I don't
- 4:18Speaker 2: know if them checks are flowing like we assumed they could. Now,
- 4:21Speaker 2: they might. Maybe we pony up. No pun intended. But, like,
- 4:23Speaker 2: maybe we try and go get him, and they do
- 4:26Speaker 2: go crazy with a contract for him. But I don't
- 4:29Speaker 2: think they're doing that right now. We'll see.
- 4:32Speaker 1: But I think– I can't believe– no, that would be
- 4:33Speaker 1: a great– that would be a great from an offensive standpoint. And, hell,
- 4:36Speaker 1: we know– even though it's the offensive coordinator in Miami–
- 4:39Speaker 1: He was the only quarterback to actually have– what's the
- 4:41Speaker 1: quarterback that was from New Jersey that ended up transferring
- 4:45Speaker 1: to Wisconsin?
- 4:46Speaker 2: Oh, Van Dyke.
- 4:48Speaker 1: He was the only coach to actually make Van Dyke
- 4:51Speaker 1: look like an actual.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Player in my opinion. Yeah, when he was healthy, Van
- 4:54Speaker 2: Dyke was balling.
- 4:55Speaker 3: He was before he got– SMU is a private institution,
- 4:59Speaker 3: so their contracts are, I guess, secret. You can't know,
- 5:04Speaker 3: but the guesstimate is his buyout is about $ 40 million.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Oof.
- 5:10Speaker 2: That's to fire him or to hire him away?
- 5:13Speaker 3: To hire him away, you'd have to pay out about
- 5:15Speaker 3: $ 40 million.
- 5:17Speaker 1: See, that's the big thing, the big issue, right? That's
- 5:20Speaker 1: too much. Right, you've got to pay the Mike Norvell,
- 5:22Speaker 1: you've got to pay someone's buyout.
- 5:24Speaker 2: And then pay him, too.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Correct, to come to Florida State. That $ 40 million is
- 5:28Speaker 1: a lot.
- 5:29Speaker 2: That's a lot, a lot. Dan Lanning's is crazy, too.
- 5:33Speaker 2: I need them to lose a few more games this year.
- 5:34Speaker 2: I'm cheering UCLA tomorrow. Well, today, I guess now. But
- 5:37Speaker 2: I'm cheering UCLA.
- 5:39Speaker 1: You know Jimmy Sesson's going to lose. He's a motherfucker
- 5:42Speaker 1: when it comes to his country.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Yeah, fuck that guy, bro. I need him to die.
- 5:46Speaker 1: It's like a 95% chance you're going to deal with
- 5:50Speaker 1: him when it comes to these coaches.
- 5:51Speaker 2: I know.
- 5:52Speaker 1: I know.
- 5:53Speaker 3: So, TJ, you asked CJ who he hired. Who are
- 5:56Speaker 3: you hiring?
- 5:57Speaker 1: Yeah, give me your list.
- 6:00Speaker 2: I don't hate the coordinator route. I think that's worked out. Like,
- 6:03Speaker 2: Kirby was a coordinator. Sark was a coordinator. Lanning was
- 6:05Speaker 2: a coordinator. A lot of the top coaches in college football, right?
- 6:08Speaker 2: Ryan Day was a coordinator. Like, I think that can work.
- 6:10Speaker 2: But to me, everything's a crapshoot, you know? I would
- 6:15Speaker 2: steer clear of Manny. I don't think I'd go that direction.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Jimbo I'd be fine with if he hired– like, if
- 6:21Speaker 2: Jimbo would CEO it and really be that closer on
- 6:24Speaker 2: the trail and be that evaluator and then, like, let
- 6:29Speaker 2: an offensive coordinator or defensive coordinator run things. That could
- 6:32Speaker 2: work to me, but I think I don't know that
- 6:34Speaker 2: I want Jimbo to be the offensive coordinator, run the offense,
- 6:38Speaker 2: all that stuff. There would have to be certain simulations there.
- 6:41Speaker 2: When you're thinking about coordinators, I like Heatherman. I don't
- 6:46Speaker 2: know if he would really leave or not. I like
- 6:50Speaker 2: both guys in Indiana. I like Schumann. I think there's
- 6:53Speaker 2: good coordinators out there. I don't know that there's a...
- 6:55Speaker 2: Last year, it felt like there were a lot of
- 6:57Speaker 2: group of five guys that felt like they made a
- 6:59Speaker 2: lot of sense, like Golish and Summerall and all those guys.
- 7:02Speaker 2: I don't know if I feel that way. I've heard
- 7:04Speaker 2: people talk about Charles Hoff. I'm like, man, I.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Can't do that. I do. But Memphis, you want to
- 7:10Speaker 1: go back?
- 7:11Speaker 2: I can't do the Memphis thing two times in a row, bro. Like,
- 7:14Speaker 2: I just.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I know I do. I do like Charles.
- 7:17Speaker 2: I think he's going to go to G5.
- 7:18Speaker 1: He's probably the only. G, him and the boys in state.
- 7:22Speaker 1: What boys is not G5 anymore. I think they're big 12.
- 7:25Speaker 2: No, they're Pac-12 now. So it's kind of fake G5.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Yeah, G5 still. So, but at the same time, it's,
- 7:31Speaker 1: proximity as far as not being a seven.
- 7:35Speaker 2: I think Jake Dickert's a good coach. The only thing
- 7:37Speaker 2: I worry about is he's kind of got the Norvell
- 7:39Speaker 2: vibes too, though. Not Norvell vibes. I think he's a
- 7:43Speaker 2: better coach. But he's winning at Wake, man.
- 7:46Speaker 1: And the only thing I don't... At Washington State as well, too.
- 7:51Speaker 2: And he did a good job evaluating talent. The only
- 7:53Speaker 2: thing I worry about is can he recruit? I think
- 7:56Speaker 2: you've got to find a proven recruiter.
- 7:57Speaker 1: There's nothing saying he can't.
- 8:00Speaker 2: I don't think Summerall came in as just this ace
- 8:03Speaker 2: recruiter that you couldn't miss on. I think Napier was
- 8:06Speaker 2: probably thought of as a better recruiter than Summerall before
- 8:09Speaker 2: both of them went to Florida. But I don't know, man.
- 8:12Speaker 2: If you put effort in, that might be enough. I
- 8:16Speaker 2: think that's part of FSU staff's problem is the effort level.
- 8:19Speaker 2: That's the thing.
- 8:21Speaker 1: It's been so many situations to where these guys had
- 8:26Speaker 1: a layup, literally a layup right in front of them.
- 8:28Speaker 1: but they just don't take the layup. They make stuff
- 8:30Speaker 1: so much harder than what it is. So you're right.
- 8:32Speaker 1: If you just put effort in and relay on relationships
- 8:36Speaker 1: and certifications to where it can be easier, like, for instance,
- 8:39Speaker 1: you guys know how much I tweet about Mandarin and this, that,
- 8:43Speaker 1: and the third and how it was ours for the taking.
- 8:46Speaker 1: It was literally ours for the taking if they did
- 8:48Speaker 1: what they were supposed to do and actually levy those relationships. Like,
- 8:52Speaker 1: it was no way, they didn't levy those Mandarin relationships
- 8:55Speaker 1: that we had and this, that, and the third and
- 8:56Speaker 1: it was, and of course we lost too, but It
- 8:59Speaker 1: was literally there, but you got to– that's on me
- 9:01Speaker 1: for actually believing in the staff to do their job
- 9:04Speaker 1: as well too, right?
- 9:05Speaker 2: They're always the bridesmaid, man. Correct.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Y'all hate Eli Drinkwits?
- 9:10Speaker 2: I don't hate that. I'll tell you what. My favorite
- 9:13Speaker 2: SEC stat of all time is that Missouri has never
- 9:16Speaker 2: beaten a team that finished above 500 in the SEC.
- 9:20Speaker 1: So that's the thing. Like I don't know– I think
- 9:22Speaker 1: Drink is an okay coach, but a lot of that
- 9:24Speaker 1: stuff be– Fluffing as far as SEC rankings and that
- 9:27Speaker 1: type of deal. Yeah, man. I really don't know. He
- 9:31Speaker 1: recruited pretty well for Mizzou. Had pretty good defense.
- 9:33Speaker 2: He got in the Warrior a couple years ago. He's
- 9:35Speaker 2: done a good job birding all those guys. He's gotten guys.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Hardy is there now.
- 9:41Speaker 1: How's the defensive end? I'm not sure if you guys
- 9:42Speaker 1: remember the defensive end. We had a five-star from Coco
- 9:46Speaker 1: that ended up flipping. Oh, what are you talking about? Yeah.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Dude, he is a good recruiter.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Right.
- 9:54Speaker 1: He had balls committed, too.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Yeah. And he, yeah, the thing about Missouri is, like, see,
- 10:02Speaker 2: they'll beat, like, a Thompson in Florida. Yeah, Javion Hilton.
- 10:05Speaker 1: He's just not a sexy name, to be honest.
- 10:07Speaker 2: He's not. But he might come in and win, you know. But, like,
- 10:12Speaker 2: watch this. They beat the shit out of him.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Sweet.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Watch him go this day and him tomorrow. Or today,
- 10:18Speaker 2: I guess now. Like, that's just the story of that.
- 10:21Speaker 2: You know, like, I don't know, man. He wouldn't be
- 10:26Speaker 2: the worst hire. Like, you could do worse than him
- 10:28Speaker 2: for sure. So, I would take it. But I don't know.
- 10:32Speaker 3: That kid transferred to Virginia Tech, by the way.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Goddamn. Well, so much for that.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Couldn't cut in the SEC, bro.
- 10:41Speaker 3: Right.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Just means more.
- 10:46Speaker 2: Franklin. I want Franklin last year. That's what I want.
- 10:49Speaker 2: That was my coach.
- 10:50Speaker 1: That's the thing. We had a perfect situation last year.
- 10:55Speaker 1: I really feel like after that Stanford game, it was
- 10:58Speaker 1: the perfect time to cut ties. We had a guy
- 11:02Speaker 1: on Franklin. He was begging for an FSU job.
- 11:04Speaker 2: That's why he waited so long. Virginia Tech finally told him,
- 11:06Speaker 2: you're either going to take this or not.
- 11:09Speaker 1: He was begging for the job because he knew it
- 11:11Speaker 1: would have been an easy bang, bang, come in and
- 11:14Speaker 1: get rolling. Not I know a lot of fans were
- 11:17Speaker 1: against it, but, like, man, you couldn't win the big game. Like, motherfucker,
- 11:21Speaker 1: it's fucking Ohio State. Like, yeah, it's not too many
- 11:24Speaker 1: people being Ohio State or Michigan the year they were up. Like,
- 11:26Speaker 1: it was– whenever those two teams are up in the
- 11:30Speaker 1: Big Ten, there's only so much you can do. But
- 11:32Speaker 1: I feel like we're Florida State. We're a different team
- 11:34Speaker 1: than Penn State in my opinion.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree. They got to– the people in charge
- 11:39Speaker 2: got to eventually look at this place like it's different
- 11:42Speaker 2: than just, you know, a department that makes them some
- 11:46Speaker 2: money on the side, they got to actually care about competing.
- 11:48Speaker 2: And we, we waste our breath and energy and everything else, effort, tears, everything,
- 11:53Speaker 2: all that we do. And once, once they start caring
- 11:56Speaker 2: half as much as we do, we'll probably get better.
- 11:58Speaker 2: You know, that's what it is.
- 12:00Speaker 3: A lot, a lot of, a lot of people will hate.
