- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, Welcome to the Driver's Show.
- 0:07Speaker 2: We do have to apologize about the audio of the
- 0:10Speaker 2: last episode.
- 0:11Speaker 3: I'm really sorry about that.
- 0:12Speaker 2: We were in transit and now today we are coming
- 0:17Speaker 2: live from Paul's hometown village somewhere in Croatia.
- 0:28Speaker 3: What is that lovely old nonna keep offering me borsch.
- 0:33Speaker 1: That's served in a boot.
- 0:36Speaker 2: No, thank you, I'm fine, No thank you. No, she's
- 0:42Speaker 2: too young to marry. Yeah, come back in twelve months.
- 0:49Speaker 1: This is lovely, This is love This is lovely.
- 0:51Speaker 3: Where you grew up.
- 0:52Speaker 1: I got to see the crate where you slept. How
- 0:58Speaker 1: are you good?
- 0:59Speaker 3: Are you? I'm glad, We're actually glad the audio quality
- 1:03Speaker 3: is better.
- 1:03Speaker 4: I was about to say I'm glad we're back in
- 1:04Speaker 4: the same studio, but there believe it wouldn't be true.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Come on, yeah, Look, it was a bit of a
- 1:10Speaker 2: rusty old plane. We did share it with several livestock.
- 1:15Speaker 1: There was a chicken next to me. At one point
- 1:17Speaker 1: there was a cow.
- 1:18Speaker 3: I thought live catileg sports were banned. That's not in
- 1:21Speaker 3: this village.
- 1:22Speaker 1: They'll take what they can get. Wow, but here we are.
- 1:26Speaker 1: It's beautiful, the mountains, it's a beautiful hometown.
- 1:30Speaker 3: I like it.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Off clus hardly shoes, take your cardboard boxes off a
- 1:38Speaker 2: little bath.
- 1:39Speaker 3: How are you.
- 1:43Speaker 1: I'm good, I'm good.
- 1:44Speaker 2: I weirdly we had a child's birthday party at the
- 1:48Speaker 2: same time, our different children. Yes, and my kid had
- 1:53Speaker 2: a fire truck at her party. Not planned, it was
- 1:58Speaker 2: just there was a fire. Kids, several children died. But
- 2:05Speaker 2: but do you know what the funny thing is? Like this,
- 2:07Speaker 2: this fire truck pulls out the front and it's it's
- 2:10Speaker 2: like a proper retired fire truck.
- 2:12Speaker 1: It's a big thing.
- 2:13Speaker 2: And these guys come out and they've got their suits
- 2:16Speaker 2: and stuff. I know, I was funny. I was like, oh,
- 2:20Speaker 2: the strippers of around kids. Anyway, the fire truck comes
- 2:24Speaker 2: up and all the little kids they get to climb
- 2:26Speaker 2: up and their seats up the top of it, and
- 2:28Speaker 2: you know, they they get to sit up there.
- 2:30Speaker 1: And we were supposed to have like.
- 2:31Speaker 2: A drive around our neighborhood, right and then we get
- 2:34Speaker 2: up there and I noticed there's a big stripper pole
- 2:36Speaker 2: right in the middle o. This thing's used for hen's parties,
- 2:42Speaker 2: and it was it was quite the experience to see
- 2:45Speaker 2: my three year old daughter and all their little friends
- 2:47Speaker 2: dancing around to hot potato around a striper pole. A
- 2:55Speaker 2: bit of a look in on her future I'm getting.
- 2:57Speaker 3: But yeah, that was.
- 2:58Speaker 2: That's been me lately, apart from driving some pretty cool cars,
- 3:01Speaker 2: which we'll talk about soon. Have you been give me
- 3:05Speaker 2: an update on your life.
- 3:06Speaker 3: Yeah. I had a kid's birthday party for our daughter.
- 3:10Speaker 3: There was a dinosaur there.
- 3:11Speaker 4: Oh not real, okay, as the kids soon discovered, they're
- 3:15Speaker 4: all terrified of it.
- 3:16Speaker 2: You are, we're talking car expert dollars. So it wouldn't
- 3:19Speaker 2: surprise me if Paul was like.
- 3:21Speaker 3: What a real dinosaur?
- 3:23Speaker 2: You just chucked a big show biz tantrum, just went
- 3:27Speaker 2: down to Jurassic Bark, put some pull on in the
- 3:29Speaker 2: back of it.
- 3:32Speaker 3: So yeah, that was. That was good fun. Was it
- 3:35Speaker 3: like an inflatable dinosaur thing?
- 3:36Speaker 4: Yeah, but it had like a it had like a
- 3:39Speaker 4: little fan that would inflated. No, no, no, it was
- 3:44Speaker 4: my brother in law. And then the batteries ran out,
- 3:47Speaker 4: and all of a sudden, this dinosaur just started looking
- 3:50Speaker 4: very depressing, and then the kids.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Started screaming because I thought it was dying. And then
- 3:54Speaker 3: he popped his head out and then they were all like, oh,
- 3:57Speaker 3: thank god, it's not real. I'm like yeah anyway, yes,
- 4:03Speaker 3: but also we've been very.
- 4:05Speaker 4: Busy with work because we're planning another another mega suv test,
- 4:10Speaker 4: including some off roading and towing and stuff, so we'll
- 4:13Speaker 4: have more to speak about that in the coming weeks.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Did you just do like the best ute?
- 4:17Speaker 4: Yes, we just did Australia's most comprehensive ute tests. Now
- 4:22Speaker 4: this will be Australia's most comprehensive four wheel drive suv tests.
- 4:25Speaker 3: Oh, it should be good. What are you looking forward
- 4:27Speaker 3: to putting in that thing? Just a bit of everything.
- 4:30Speaker 4: So we've got twelve vehicles in total doing a stack
- 4:34Speaker 4: of off roading, towing. It's the whole shebank.
- 4:38Speaker 3: Putting it through a four wheel drive test. Yeah, pretty much,
- 4:41Speaker 3: old chestnut. Wow.
- 4:44Speaker 4: Hey, we've got some more feedback. By the way, cover
- 4:46Speaker 4: that at the end of the show.
- 4:47Speaker 1: That's not good or bad feedback.
- 4:49Speaker 2: It was people outraged about putting your branded in some
- 4:54Speaker 2: sort of disrepute. This is not what the Engineers Association
- 4:58Speaker 2: is all about, Paul, or has that little boy called you, Pavelet?
- 5:04Speaker 2: This is not what you signed when you fucking graduated
- 5:09Speaker 2: from the Engineer's Institute of Australia. You have a brand
- 5:12Speaker 2: to protect, you could bring the whole establishment down.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Time for some more puerile humor coming up.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Hey, Tesla really revealed this was the weirdest reveal ever,
- 5:24Speaker 2: such a tease. But the thing is, there was a
- 5:27Speaker 2: tease of what I thought initially was going to be
- 5:31Speaker 2: their new Model three, because what I saw initially was
- 5:35Speaker 2: the silhouette tease, and then a lot of people on
- 5:38Speaker 2: Twitter were blowing up with the whole it looks exactly
- 5:40Speaker 2: like the Model three and doing like a comparison fading
- 5:43Speaker 2: the silhouette out and it's pretty much exactly the same shape.
- 5:46Speaker 2: But this is a brand new model.
- 5:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:49Speaker 4: Yeah, So Tesla's become interesting lately because they announced that
- 5:54Speaker 4: they're killing right hand drive production for the models and
- 5:58Speaker 4: the Model X. I mean, globally those cars sell in
- 6:02Speaker 4: such insignificant numbers that it doesn't really matter that much.
- 6:04Speaker 4: Tesla is basically a two car company, the Model three
- 6:07Speaker 4: in the Model WY.
- 6:08Speaker 2: It's one thing I'm sad about the X because I
- 6:10Speaker 2: thought the X was a ballsy move with the whole
- 6:13Speaker 2: doors and everything like design wise, I thought it was
- 6:16Speaker 2: cool at the time.
- 6:17Speaker 3: It's been built like rubbish.
- 6:18Speaker 4: Yes, one of the ones we had had the biggest
- 6:21Speaker 4: panel gaps. Those doors will stop working eventually and be
- 6:26Speaker 4: impossible slash expensive to replace.
- 6:28Speaker 3: I do think it's time those.
- 6:29Speaker 4: Things just disappeared, but it's before we sort of talk
- 6:32Speaker 4: about this in a little more detail orickon. Tesla is
- 6:35Speaker 4: now just becoming another car company. They kind of started
- 6:38Speaker 4: off being the anti car company, but when you look
- 6:41Speaker 4: at it, they are just another car company now.
- 6:43Speaker 3: So a design update for the Model three.
- 6:45Speaker 4: So they said that they wouldn't be doing that sort
- 6:47Speaker 4: of stuff, they would just do software updates, and now
- 6:50Speaker 4: they're doing a design update to keep it fresh because
- 6:52Speaker 4: the sales are sort of starting to go down.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Discounting, they change the price.
- 6:57Speaker 4: Of these things every ten minutes and that is literally
- 6:59Speaker 4: a kin to a car company doing an end of
- 7:02Speaker 4: financial years.
- 7:02Speaker 3: So Tesla's just doing that now as well.
- 7:06Speaker 4: They're doing advertising, so Musk has said that they're going
- 7:09Speaker 4: to try advertising, so again a sign of things just
- 7:13Speaker 4: not going as well as they were.
- 7:15Speaker 3: So look, I think.
- 7:16Speaker 4: Eventually, well, Tesla is now in my mind, just a
- 7:20Speaker 4: legacy EV company because if you have a look at
- 7:22Speaker 4: all the startups that are now coming up in that segment,
- 7:24Speaker 4: they're all doing the adventurous stuff. Tesla is sticking very
- 7:27Speaker 4: much to a pretty tried and tested formula in the
- 7:29Speaker 4: automotive world, which is fine.
- 7:31Speaker 2: I feel like also these new startups seem to be
- 7:33Speaker 2: doing something a little bit different in terms of they've
- 7:37Speaker 2: learned from Tesla's mistakes.
- 7:38Speaker 4: Yes, yeah, so they're all adapting to what Tesla's been doing.
- 7:41Speaker 4: And look, Tesla runs the risk of only having two
- 7:44Speaker 4: successful models, the three and the Y.
- 7:47Speaker 3: I mean the cyber truck.
- 7:49Speaker 4: To be honest, regardless whether you like or don't like
- 7:51Speaker 4: the design, it doesn't look very practical at all. We
- 7:54Speaker 4: know that electric uts aren't very good, and Tesla can't
- 7:57Speaker 4: change that formula all of a sudden.
- 8:00Speaker 2: The I think the thing with the cyber truck generally
- 8:03Speaker 2: the people who are going to be using it just
- 8:04Speaker 2: think it looks cool. So practicality wise, I don't think
- 8:07Speaker 2: I'm mad as everything. Everyone's just like, give me that
- 8:09Speaker 2: car that looks like it's from that fucking Harrison Ford
- 8:12Speaker 2: movie in the eighties.
- 8:13Speaker 4: Yeah, but that'll I just don't think that design will
- 8:16Speaker 4: age well. The semi they seem to be having a
- 8:19Speaker 4: lot of reliability issues with those as ye images of
- 8:21Speaker 4: those broken down constantly, So I don't know.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Tesla just really needs to get its act together.
- 8:26Speaker 4: And I think now that Elon has finally appointed a
- 8:29Speaker 4: CEO for Twitter, I've stopped using Twitter because it's just
- 8:32Speaker 4: become an absolute shit show over there, and it's just
- 8:35Speaker 4: full of just Elon lovers and I just don't have
- 8:39Speaker 4: time for that shit, so I've.
- 8:41Speaker 3: Stopped bothering with that.
- 8:42Speaker 4: But now that he's down as the CEO of that,
- 8:45Speaker 4: hopefully it means he can actually just renew focus on
- 8:48Speaker 4: the car company, because it does seem like it's been
- 8:50Speaker 4: fading away recently.
- 8:51Speaker 2: I saw them releasing an official video of the Tesla robots,
- 8:56Speaker 2: and my first thought was, I hope they're building the
- 8:58Speaker 2: fucking cyber truck, because not doing much else, no one
- 9:01Speaker 2: cares that you've just spent three billion dollars on a
- 9:04Speaker 2: robot that can TikTok dance.
- 9:05Speaker 3: The robots are just weird.
- 9:07Speaker 4: And it seems to me that Tesla has put all
- 9:10Speaker 4: this effort into autonomy and it's now realized that it's
- 9:15Speaker 4: not working, and a lot of car companies realize that
- 9:18Speaker 4: autonomy in everyday situations is not working. Autonomy might work
- 9:23Speaker 4: down the track in very closed scenarios, which is fine,
- 9:26Speaker 4: but in just general scenarios it is not working. And
- 9:28Speaker 4: I think they're trying to now go oh, hold on,
- 9:31Speaker 4: by the way, we've still got this thing over here
- 9:32Speaker 4: and this thing over here, and a lot of the
- 9:34Speaker 4: things that they're working on are kind of irrelevant. Like
- 9:36Speaker 4: the robot thing just seems like a waste of time. Again,
- 9:39Speaker 4: it's like an autonomy push for stuff that we don't need.
- 9:43Speaker 4: People want affordable electric cars, and at the moment you're
- 9:46Speaker 4: not delivering that.
- 9:46Speaker 2: So I feel like autonomy is the sort of thing
- 9:48Speaker 2: that they should be doing in baby steps rather than
- 9:52Speaker 2: thinking so far ahead and like this is what we
- 9:54Speaker 2: can do, and it sort of comes out of a
- 9:56Speaker 2: half baked idea.
- 9:57Speaker 1: It's like the robots like this is.
- 9:59Speaker 2: What they can do or they'll be able to do,
- 10:01Speaker 2: and they just like put it together, make it happen.
- 10:03Speaker 2: They said, well, why you've got now you've got nine
- 10:06Speaker 2: ten different fucking robots just standing there dancing.
- 10:09Speaker 3: Yeah, well, just chill it out.
- 10:11Speaker 4: Like I mean, if you look at Boston Dynamics with
- 10:13Speaker 4: that robot dog that they have, now, what has been
- 10:16Speaker 4: the purpose of that? Like they use it in niche
- 10:19Speaker 4: things like policing, policing, bomb, dispose.
- 10:22Speaker 3: All that sort of stuff. But what is the purpose
- 10:24Speaker 3: of an outside of that? You can't use it anywhere.
- 10:26Speaker 3: It's just so, what are.
- 10:28Speaker 4: You going to do with this robot that is going
- 10:30Speaker 4: to help me in life? I wouldn't want that thing
- 10:32Speaker 4: around my kid, Oh I would.
- 10:33Speaker 1: I would one hundred percent.
- 10:34Speaker 2: I want that thing answering the fucking door. And then
- 10:37Speaker 2: it answers the door. The door slowly opens and there
- 10:41Speaker 2: I am standing there with a robe and nothing else
- 10:45Speaker 2: and just a bottle of whiskey.
- 10:46Speaker 3: And then it starts laughing at you.
- 10:48Speaker 2: Yeah, the dogs just know, and the dog will just
- 10:49Speaker 2: come back and sit, sit, sit next to me.
- 10:51Speaker 3: Why have you got a tub of peanut butter?
- 10:57Speaker 1: I tried to program the dog to lick it off
- 10:59Speaker 1: my nuts.
- 11:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I had that go not well, let's just.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Say let's just say, well, this is the puerile humor
- 11:11Speaker 2: people signed up for after I scanned It's hard.
- 11:14Speaker 3: Yes, So yeah, back to Tesla.
- 11:16Speaker 4: So one step further is RIMAC just recently set something
- 11:21Speaker 4: like twenty plus Guinness World records and remac or mats.
- 11:26Speaker 3: If you want to pronounce it properly, give it.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Give it to me one more time, please, nice and
- 11:29Speaker 2: slow marts, nice and slow and isolated.
- 11:34Speaker 4: So yeah, the car company from Croatia has developed the
- 11:39Speaker 4: world's fastest vehicle, an electric vehicle, and it basically has
- 11:45Speaker 4: set over twenty world records in a day. So their
- 11:48Speaker 4: acceleration world records. There was a breaking world record in
- 11:51Speaker 4: there's a whole whole shebang. And someone tweeted at Elon
- 11:55Speaker 4: and asked him whether the roadster will be able to
- 11:57Speaker 4: keep up with that, and he replied with it's like.
- 12:01Speaker 3: All right, listen up, Champ.
- 12:02Speaker 4: If you've not created this car you said you were
- 12:05Speaker 4: going to create years and years and years ago, and
- 12:07Speaker 4: you're now laughing at someone because they've actually done what
- 12:10Speaker 4: you can't do. I just think it's it's just very
- 12:12Speaker 4: petty and kind of embarrassing on Tesla's part.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Ah, it's an interesting one, like he is falling behind
- 12:20Speaker 2: a little bit. He's losing the race that he started
- 12:22Speaker 2: and said he would win.
- 12:23Speaker 4: Yeah, and look, Jumats is a company that has come
- 12:27Speaker 4: up kind of out of nowhere. This this car, the Nivea,
- 12:29Speaker 4: is actually an incredible car because they've developed a car
- 12:33Speaker 4: from ground up and normally with these things they share
- 12:36Speaker 4: a lot of components with other cars and other brands.
- 12:40Speaker 4: These guys are the components that live in other car brands,
- 12:44Speaker 4: so they actually supply electric motors to brands like Kunigseg
- 12:47Speaker 4: and Hyundai as well, so that and Porsche.
- 12:50Speaker 3: So they've done a lot of.
- 12:52Speaker 4: Work here for these other brands and developed their own
- 12:55Speaker 4: hypercar that is full electric.
- 12:57Speaker 3: And I think that it's it's a remarkable achievement.
- 12:59Speaker 4: So to to try and shoot that down is just
- 13:01Speaker 4: a little bit embarrassing on Elon's part.
- 13:03Speaker 3: They look bloody great too, don't they. I think it's
- 13:06Speaker 3: like four million dollars or something sold. I'll buy one, Yeah,
- 13:10Speaker 3: I'll buy one with mate. Well, hold on, you've bought
- 13:12Speaker 3: a car, haven't you. We'll talk about that in another episode.
- 13:14Speaker 3: Take you Could it be the three Months nevera.
- 13:18Speaker 2: It's pretty close. It's pretty close. Let's just say it's
- 13:21Speaker 2: a super car, very good.
- 13:24Speaker 4: So yeah, let us know contact at the Drivers Show
- 13:29Speaker 4: dot com dot au or hit us up on social media,
- 13:33Speaker 4: let us know what you think about this whole Tesla thing.
- 13:35Speaker 4: I know I'm sounding a little bit negative there, but yes,
- 13:37Speaker 4: I obviously do drive a Tesla. My brother drives a Tesla.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Oh, I've just got my dad to buy one as well.
- 13:43Speaker 2: At coworkers drive them to or did they drive them
- 13:46Speaker 2: and sell them?
- 13:47Speaker 4: Yes? But yeah, I do like the car itself. It's
- 13:51Speaker 4: no dramas at all. But I'm just sort of pointing
- 13:53Speaker 4: out from analytical point of view that I think they
- 13:56Speaker 4: are starting to potentially fall behind.
- 13:58Speaker 3: Now.
- 13:58Speaker 2: I think it'd be interesting what you make it the Silhouette.
- 14:01Speaker 2: I mean, this is a brand new model and we
- 14:03Speaker 2: don't know what it's going.
- 14:04Speaker 3: To be called.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Probably could be the Tesla too.
- 14:07Speaker 3: I just hope it's a more affordable thing.
- 14:09Speaker 4: And this isn't just a jive at Tesla, but all
- 14:12Speaker 4: EV manufacturers. At the moment, there are no affordable evs,
- 14:15Speaker 4: and we're now forcing governments to do subsidies, and I
- 14:18Speaker 4: mean your taxpayer dollars doing subsidies isn't really an ideal
- 14:21Speaker 4: solution to this problem. So I am hoping that this
- 14:25Speaker 4: will pave the way to an affordable EV that people
- 14:28Speaker 4: can actually buy and not have to then you know,
- 14:32Speaker 4: go broke buying because cars are getting expensive at the moment.
- 14:36Speaker 2: Cars are and do you know what, I also have
- 14:37Speaker 2: noticed I reckon the second car, second hand car market
- 14:40Speaker 2: is starting to correct itself.
- 14:41Speaker 4: It is a little bit yeah, yeah, it is starting
- 14:43Speaker 4: to level out, so big time. Yeah, which is good news,
- 14:46Speaker 4: but ultimately.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Not for me.
- 14:48Speaker 3: Not for me, mate. No.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Twenty twenty four Toyota to coma which sounds like an
- 14:54Speaker 2: eye disease from a third world country.
- 14:56Speaker 1: But it's a stunting what is this? Is this a mid.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Size pickup or and how does it differentiate from say
- 15:01Speaker 2: a high Lux?
- 15:02Speaker 4: But it's an American mid size, So an American mid
- 15:05Speaker 4: size because America is kind of big, but it's not
- 15:09Speaker 4: super big. So I think if you were to visualize this,
- 15:12Speaker 4: it's in between a high Lux and a Tundra in
- 15:15Speaker 4: terms of size, and it looks unreal. I think this
- 15:20Speaker 4: looks just sensational, bloody love it.
- 15:23Speaker 2: I agree, it looks like a real rugged off road.
- 15:27Speaker 2: Well the one I'm looking at there must be like
- 15:29Speaker 2: a gr version. But what I'm looking at is well
- 15:32Speaker 2: they call.
- 15:33Speaker 3: Them the TRD, so it's the TRD Pro.
- 15:36Speaker 4: And the cool thing is ARB, the Australian off road
- 15:39Speaker 4: company who has the exclusive sort of partnership with ford
- 15:42Speaker 4: On off Road Components, has actually been selected to develop
- 15:46Speaker 4: some components for the trail Hunter trim Ah, which I
- 15:49Speaker 4: think is pretty cool.
- 15:50Speaker 1: It looks cool, doesn't it. What models that red one?
- 15:54Speaker 3: The red is the Limited? That is the Limited.
- 15:56Speaker 4: Yes, it's kind of like a bit of a sort
- 15:58Speaker 4: of trendy looking thing. By the way, just a little
- 16:00Speaker 4: trend there. If you go to car expert dot com
- 16:02Speaker 4: a you and have a look at the picture of
- 16:03Speaker 4: the Tacoma Limited there. Can you see that lip at
- 16:09Speaker 4: the bottom of the red one. These lips are there
- 16:12Speaker 4: for erow because they sit so high off the ground.
- 16:14Speaker 4: They've put those lips in to reduce the amount of
- 16:17Speaker 4: drag the cars. It sort of punches through the air,
- 16:19Speaker 4: so you see that on a lot of these pickup trucks,
- 16:21Speaker 4: and often it's retractable so that at lows speeds it
- 16:24Speaker 4: doesn't infringe your sort of off roading, but at a higher
- 16:27Speaker 4: speed that it comes down, so you actually get a
- 16:29Speaker 4: bit of aerow advantage there.
- 16:32Speaker 1: What do you think? What do you think about the look?
- 16:34Speaker 4: I love the look of both the Trail Hunter and
- 16:37Speaker 4: the TRD Pro. I think these things look absolutely unreal.
- 16:41Speaker 4: And the cool thing as well is that they've launched
- 16:43Speaker 4: this with a number of interesting engines. So and have
- 16:48Speaker 4: a look as well, at the back seat of the
- 16:50Speaker 4: TRD Pro. So if you keep scrolling down, that.
- 16:54Speaker 3: Trail hunter looks like a beefy.
- 16:57Speaker 4: So keep scrolling down to the backs of the pro.
- 17:02Speaker 4: Keep going, keep going, keep going, keep going, keep going.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Look at that.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Oh Jesus, red, oh cooiler.
- 17:08Speaker 3: That's cool.
- 17:11Speaker 2: No, they're not speakers, but some sort of suspensiony looking things. Yes,
- 17:15Speaker 2: it's some sort of I think, do you know what?
- 17:18Speaker 1: I think they're just like structure or something.
- 17:22Speaker 3: I don't even care what that is. That looks unreal.
- 17:24Speaker 1: So that looks like Bain's head.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just that looks like when Trevor wore that
- 17:29Speaker 2: dice and air.
- 17:30Speaker 4: Mass, except this doesn't turn you on. Yeah, that set
- 17:36Speaker 4: that fan too high. Yeah, it is just bloody cool.
- 17:39Speaker 4: The other interesting thing as well is they're launching.
- 17:41Speaker 3: This with.
- 17:43Speaker 4: What's called it sounds like a phone, the I Force Max,
- 17:48Speaker 4: which is basically two point four liter four cylinder turbo
- 17:53Speaker 4: made it to an electric motor.
- 17:55Speaker 3: Was it called the I Force Max? Jesus, I think
- 17:58Speaker 3: I found one of those in Trevor's bottom drawer.
- 18:02Speaker 1: I got this from the convention in Switzerland.
- 18:05Speaker 2: No, no, wait, Germany, I've got this in Germany Engage.
- 18:12Speaker 4: But yeah, it's it looks really cool because this is
- 18:15Speaker 4: the engine they will probably be fitting to the hybrid
- 18:18Speaker 4: version of the high Lux.
- 18:20Speaker 3: So I think it's pretty cool that this is all sort.
- 18:23Speaker 4: Of coming about and it finally means that we will
- 18:25Speaker 4: be getting some interesting drive train options in Aussie yutes
- 18:29Speaker 4: to come.
- 18:31Speaker 2: Can I just pausse you on this? Well, while we're
- 18:33Speaker 2: talking to COMA. One thing I've noticed is with the
- 18:37Speaker 2: infotainment display in this and it's the same in the
- 18:39Speaker 2: gr Corolla. What is with Toyota using really thick bezzling
- 18:43Speaker 2: in their infotainment display. It's so silly, like it's a
- 18:47Speaker 2: good it's a good what a centimeter and a half,
- 18:50Speaker 2: it's a good fifteen meals.
- 18:51Speaker 4: I think they do it because it gives them room
- 18:54Speaker 4: in the future to offer a bigger screen. So they're like, oh,
- 18:57Speaker 4: now we're going to do a bigger screen, and it's
- 18:59Speaker 4: like yeah, but the screen is just now the size
- 19:01Speaker 4: it should have actually been.
- 19:02Speaker 3: It it looks like old tech. That's strange.
- 19:06Speaker 4: So yeah, anyway, super excited for this and really do hope. Yeah,
- 19:12Speaker 4: I don't think they'll bring this to Australia because it'll
- 19:14Speaker 4: kill highlux. But I do hope that that engine makes
- 19:16Speaker 4: it to Australia because that'll be unreal.
- 19:18Speaker 2: I think it's early days for this to come to Australia,
- 19:20Speaker 2: but I reckon they possibly could. I mean, these sorts
- 19:24Speaker 2: of cars are getting more popular and look at the Ram.
- 19:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:27Speaker 4: Yeah, well this is like a smaller version of that,
- 19:29Speaker 4: and I think this would sell like hotcakes.
- 19:31Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, the Mustang Marquee. Is that what we're talking about, Yes,
- 19:35Speaker 2: Mustang Markeee prices have released. Yes, so he says.
- 19:40Speaker 1: With a glee.
- 19:41Speaker 3: Yes. To put this vehicle into context, this competes with things.
- 19:46Speaker 4: Like the Model Why in the States, so you would
- 19:50Speaker 4: think that in Australia it competes with the Model Y,
- 19:53Speaker 4: so you would price it against the Model Why. But
- 19:56Speaker 4: it starts at seventy nine nine nine before on road costs.
- 20:02Speaker 3: Now, that is for the.
- 20:04Speaker 4: Version of the Marquee that uses a seventy one killer
- 20:08Speaker 4: what our battery and it gives you a driving range
- 20:10Speaker 4: of four hundred and seventy kilometers. And putting that into
- 20:14Speaker 4: context with the version of the Model Y that we
- 20:17Speaker 4: get here in Australia, Model Y kicks off at a
- 20:21Speaker 4: significantly lower price. So it starts here in Australia, and
- 20:25Speaker 4: this is before incentives and all that sort of stuff.
- 20:28Speaker 4: It starts off here in Australia at a drive away
- 20:30Speaker 4: price of seventy five or a list price which matches
- 20:34Speaker 4: the marque at around sort of seventy thousand dollars, so
- 20:37Speaker 4: it's almost ten thousand dollars cheaper. And then in terms
- 20:40Speaker 4: of the driving range it's around the same. So the
- 20:42Speaker 4: Marquees four to seventy Tesla four fifty five. If you
- 20:45Speaker 4: then step up to the flagship GT one hundred and
- 20:49Speaker 4: eight nine, sorry, that is massive ninety one killer at
- 20:53Speaker 4: our battery, so it's a bigger battery there. But ultimately
- 20:57Speaker 4: it is going to give you you just have a
- 21:00Speaker 4: quick look here, it's going to give you driving range
- 21:02Speaker 4: of four ninety kilometers. The Model Y performance is five
- 21:05Speaker 4: to fourteen. Is it getting significantly more Model Y performance
- 21:10Speaker 4: three point seven to one hundred with the with the
- 21:13Speaker 4: GT three point seven as well, but about ten thousand
- 21:18Speaker 4: dollars more expensive.
- 21:19Speaker 3: The premium looks kind of cool, yep, But.
- 21:23Speaker 4: Even the premium ninety two nine ninety so that gives
- 21:25Speaker 4: you your longer driving range, and in the premium longer
- 21:29Speaker 4: driving range of six hundred k's if you compare that
- 21:31Speaker 4: to Model Y five point thirty three ks, so you're
- 21:34Speaker 4: getting more driving range in the Mustang, but again ninety
- 21:38Speaker 4: two nine ninety, whereas the Model WI is eighty two
- 21:40Speaker 4: thousand dollars.
- 21:41Speaker 3: What's a zero to one hundred again in this GT
- 21:44Speaker 3: so three point seven, So it's the same as the
- 21:46Speaker 3: Model Y performance in theory the same.
- 21:48Speaker 1: Where would you go, Well, this is the thing.
- 21:51Speaker 4: I want to drive the Marquee. I want to see
- 21:52Speaker 4: what it's like. Look Forward promised in Australia that we
- 21:56Speaker 4: would have over the air updates for SYNC four, which
- 21:59Speaker 4: is the infotaine system that's in the Ranger, that still hasn't eventuated.
- 22:02Speaker 4: So you're about to launch this which has the same
- 22:05Speaker 4: infotament system. So you're gonna launch it and presumably it's
- 22:09Speaker 4: not going to have any over the air updates. So
- 22:10Speaker 4: I'm going to get a car that's dating as soon
- 22:12Speaker 4: as I get it, whereas with the Model why it's
- 22:14Speaker 4: constantly getting updated. I'm want to see what the storage
- 22:17Speaker 4: space is like in this, because Tesla are the masters
- 22:20Speaker 4: of interior storage space for their cars.
- 22:23Speaker 3: I think it looks.
- 22:24Speaker 4: Even though I don't love the looks of the Marquete,
- 22:26Speaker 4: I think it looks significantly better than a model Why
- 22:28Speaker 4: oh yeah, which I guess you could say about virtually
- 22:31Speaker 4: any car on the road.
- 22:32Speaker 1: It's interesting that they badge this.
- 22:34Speaker 2: I remember my first thoughts on this when they when
- 22:36Speaker 2: they release this or I announce this.
- 22:39Speaker 1: To badge this as a Mustang, I thought was an
- 22:41Speaker 1: odd choice.
- 22:43Speaker 2: I kind of wonder like if they put this under
- 22:46Speaker 2: a Ford badge, but in a cool way. I mean,
- 22:48Speaker 2: they couldn't really do it with a different could they
- 22:52Speaker 2: do it with a different slightly different logo.
- 22:54Speaker 3: Or should have called it the Cortina.
- 22:59Speaker 1: Jesus. Yeah, I don't know.
- 23:01Speaker 2: What do you make of the fact that they've put
- 23:03Speaker 2: this under I mean, Mustang has got such a heritage
- 23:06Speaker 2: about it.
- 23:07Speaker 3: A lot of people are annoyed.
- 23:08Speaker 4: If you look at forwards social media when they announced
- 23:10Speaker 4: that autobooks were open and stuff, comments weren't exactly nice,
- 23:14Speaker 4: and you look at their comments in the States, people
- 23:16Speaker 4: still don't love the fact that it's called a Mustang.
- 23:18Speaker 4: So I don't know if they've made a mistake there,
- 23:20Speaker 4: But they're trying to make Mustang a brand, so they're
- 23:23Speaker 4: still doing the crazy internal combustion versions.
- 23:26Speaker 2: But yeah, I think it's like, I think it's probably
- 23:31Speaker 2: a progressive move. I hap the works. I'm looking forward
- 23:34Speaker 2: to this car. I think it looks great. I just
- 23:37Speaker 2: it is expensive, though, isn't it. I can't get past that.
- 23:39Speaker 3: Yeah, we'll see, agreed.
- 23:41Speaker 2: Should we get into our little car, revieh go and
- 23:44Speaker 2: I say little because it was a little.
- 23:45Speaker 3: Car with a big heart. Okay, just say yes. Yes.
- 23:53Speaker 3: The twenty twenty three to Yota GA Corolla.
- 23:55Speaker 4: Prices start at sixty two three hundred dollars before on
- 23:59Speaker 4: road costs.
- 24:00Speaker 1: We got in there, Toyota GR Corolla. Who oh yes.
- 24:04Speaker 4: So we did speak about this recently about how people
- 24:07Speaker 4: were trying to gouge. I think that's still the case.
- 24:09Speaker 4: But what do you think about the GR Corolla?
- 24:13Speaker 2: Right, let's go sixty two thousand dollars just over before
- 24:17Speaker 2: drive away. Interesting one with the numbers like healthy numbers,
- 24:19Speaker 2: two hundred and twenty one killer. What's three hundred and
- 24:21Speaker 2: seventy meters of talk coming out of a one point
- 24:24Speaker 2: six liter three cylinder engine. They are really pumping out
- 24:29Speaker 2: some good stuff out of that thing.
- 24:31Speaker 3: Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 24:32Speaker 4: Doesn't give you much room for tuning though, because if
- 24:34Speaker 4: you're you're developing I think they said it was the
- 24:39Speaker 4: most or one of the most power outputs per liter
- 24:43Speaker 4: of any car on the road. Yes, if you're developing
- 24:46Speaker 4: that right now, surely there's not much room for tuning
- 24:50Speaker 4: out of that engine.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Well, I mean this was the what is that the
- 24:52Speaker 2: GTS kind of version. Then they're bringing out a slight Yes,
- 24:57Speaker 2: the slightly beefed up one, which I I think was
- 25:00Speaker 2: I kind of thought it was the same sort of engine,
- 25:02Speaker 2: but I know they're deleting the back two.
- 25:04Speaker 1: Seats, adding a roll.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, so there is a there is obviously a
- 25:08Speaker 2: little bit of something something going on. They've saved weight
- 25:11Speaker 2: in a lot of areas. I think the wheels are
- 25:14Speaker 2: slightly lighter on the new one.
- 25:15Speaker 3: Yep.
- 25:17Speaker 1: But this was do you know what's interesting?
- 25:20Speaker 2: So I spent a week with the Type R and
- 25:23Speaker 2: then this, and everyone was like, how does it compare?
- 25:29Speaker 2: What does this compete with? Would you say this would
- 25:31Speaker 2: be the type sorry, the goalar.
- 25:35Speaker 4: Type are thir Yes, it's that sort of group of vehicles,
- 25:40Speaker 4: and you know where they've priced it.
- 25:42Speaker 3: It really goes in quite high.
- 25:45Speaker 4: But then when you look at the numbers, being that
- 25:47Speaker 4: it's a manual only a zero to one hundred and
- 25:50Speaker 4: five point three, that's quick, but to achieve five point
- 25:53Speaker 4: three you really need to assault the gearbox to get
- 25:56Speaker 4: it to that level.
- 25:57Speaker 3: So I also thought that it could do with a
- 26:00Speaker 3: bit more noise.
- 26:01Speaker 4: It kind of sounded a bit sedate as well, and
- 26:04Speaker 4: it is much softer than the Type A, so it
- 26:06Speaker 4: sort of sort of tips in a little better. It's
- 26:09Speaker 4: sort of very gentle compared to the Type A, and
- 26:12Speaker 4: it doesn't really it doesn't really do the sort of
- 26:15Speaker 4: thing that I'd like it to do, which is send
- 26:17Speaker 4: all of its talk to the rear axle to do
- 26:18Speaker 4: fun sort of drifty things it really needs.
- 26:21Speaker 3: But I did think that was a cool little function.
- 26:24Speaker 2: What do you call it, talk bias the talk by
- 26:26Speaker 2: a switch on it where thirty seventy to sixty seventy, yeah,
- 26:29Speaker 2: sixty forty or the fifty to fifty split, right, which
- 26:32Speaker 2: I think is a nifty little thing.
- 26:33Speaker 1: You don't really see that too much.
- 26:35Speaker 2: I think this was lacking a bit of track stuff
- 26:38Speaker 2: in general compared to its competitors, Like you look at
- 26:42Speaker 2: Jesus even an I thirty n had like the track
- 26:46Speaker 2: logger track info stuff on it. This didn't really seem
- 26:50Speaker 2: to have a lot of track tech on it. I
- 26:52Speaker 2: mean it did, but not compare to say something like
- 26:55Speaker 2: I mean, even the Golfer has probably more tech in it.
- 26:58Speaker 3: If you compare this to the Golfer, is significantly quicker.
- 27:01Speaker 4: Yeah, the golfer is more comfortable as a daily because
- 27:04Speaker 4: you can get it with the dual clutch.
- 27:07Speaker 3: I don't know. I just think that Toyota has.
- 27:09Speaker 4: Done a very pure driver's car here, So they've probably
- 27:14Speaker 4: gone a bit too Toyota on it and just made
- 27:16Speaker 4: it a bit soft. And I think that perhaps they've
- 27:19Speaker 4: done that on purpose to leave the door open for
- 27:20Speaker 4: Tunas to come in and do what they need to do.
- 27:22Speaker 4: But yeah, ultimately I think that perhaps it could have
- 27:26Speaker 4: been a little harder in that regard, and they could
- 27:28Speaker 4: have just added a bit more spice into it to
- 27:31Speaker 4: give it that sort of real character.
- 27:33Speaker 1: I thought it looked great. The bloody fled wheel archers.
- 27:36Speaker 3: On this thing. I mean, it looks unreal.
- 27:39Speaker 2: It is doing squats. It has got some serious leg
- 27:42Speaker 2: day action going on.
- 27:43Speaker 3: I like you, Yeah, I've got a flat bump. I
- 27:46Speaker 3: do think this will do.
- 27:47Speaker 4: Well as a as a collector's car down the track
- 27:51Speaker 4: you reckon.
- 27:52Speaker 3: Oh, absolutely, yeah.
- 27:53Speaker 4: I think when Toyota only does hybrid stuff and they
- 27:56Speaker 4: forget about all this stuff in the future, this is
- 27:58Speaker 4: going to be a bit of a collector's item.
- 28:00Speaker 2: I think it earns the respect. I think it drives excellent.
- 28:04Speaker 2: The limiteds lipdiff in this is really good. It really
- 28:07Speaker 2: grips to the road hard. I'm sort of with you
- 28:09Speaker 2: on I wish there was a bit more room in
- 28:11Speaker 2: the talk bias. But first impressions, it seems like an
- 28:14Speaker 2: expensive car. But I mean, let's say sixty five sixty
- 28:18Speaker 2: six thousand dollars worth of car like this sitting in
- 28:21Speaker 2: your garage. It's a good sports car. It's a really
- 28:25Speaker 2: solid car.
- 28:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:26Speaker 2: There was a few things that I didn't like about it,
- 28:28Speaker 2: which I would have expected for this price point. The
- 28:31Speaker 2: just little things like a three to sixty camera would
- 28:33Speaker 2: have been good, or the what do you call it,
- 28:36Speaker 2: the bezels on the driver display. There wasn't enough race
- 28:41Speaker 2: tech in it for my liking. But generally I thought
- 28:44Speaker 2: it's a great daily driver car. It's one of the
- 28:47Speaker 2: best ones out there as a daily It's an easy car.
- 28:49Speaker 1: To drive.
- 28:50Speaker 2: The gearbox is great. Did you find gears one to
- 28:53Speaker 2: two a little bit crunchy?
- 28:54Speaker 4: Yeah, and second to third as well would sometimes get
- 28:57Speaker 4: a bit stuck too, So I don't know whether that's
- 28:59Speaker 4: just as just these things have been abused or not,
- 29:02Speaker 4: but yeah, yeah, not amazing. It could be a bit tighter,
- 29:05Speaker 4: like a type. I thought that was nice and sort
- 29:07Speaker 4: of gated.
- 29:08Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that was brilliant. I still think about that car.
- 29:12Speaker 2: I'll just sit there and go, I wonder what it's
- 29:14Speaker 2: doing now. I don't know what it's up to. Yeah,
- 29:17Speaker 2: I would I love to have. I would have loved
- 29:19Speaker 2: to have got one of those. Can't get past the
- 29:21Speaker 2: red seats.
- 29:22Speaker 3: That's yeah. Otherwise definitely what I had one.
- 29:25Speaker 1: It's a great car. I can't get past the red seeds.
- 29:28Speaker 1: But yeah, don't worry about the price. I mean these abyss.
- 29:31Speaker 2: Yeah, look, I think it's a I kind of think
- 29:34Speaker 2: this is you know a lot of these sort of
- 29:36Speaker 2: I don't know what you'd call this category of car
- 29:40Speaker 2: where it's a crossover track and a daily hot hatch,
- 29:43Speaker 2: I guess, but I think this is definitely more There's.
- 29:46Speaker 1: A lot of cars out there that I would go.
- 29:48Speaker 2: More of a track car than a daily This is
- 29:50Speaker 2: definitely more of a daily car, yep. And it's a
- 29:54Speaker 2: boy racer if you want to track it. I just
- 29:57Speaker 2: I can't imagine tracking a car. People don't realized when
- 30:00Speaker 2: you track a car, it's actually quite expensive. Like it
- 30:02Speaker 2: all fucking adds up.
- 30:04Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, if you do it properly, which is
- 30:06Speaker 4: getting it checked before and after and stuff like that,
- 30:09Speaker 4: tires breaks gets bloody expensive.
- 30:12Speaker 1: Yeah, it racks up there. So I'm just.
- 30:16Speaker 4: Reflecting on our discussion here. I think we've both just
- 30:18Speaker 4: come out of this going bit.
- 30:19Speaker 3: Yeah it's nice.
- 30:20Speaker 2: I'm not overwhelmed by it. I'm impressed by it.
- 30:25Speaker 1: It was fun. I looked forward to it, but I
- 30:27Speaker 1: guess I would have liked a bit more.
- 30:29Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, I'm the same. I thought it was impressive
- 30:31Speaker 3: for what it is.
- 30:32Speaker 4: I just don't think it's amazing, and I think they
- 30:34Speaker 4: probably could have done just a little bit more to
- 30:36Speaker 4: make it a bit more fun and engaging.
- 30:38Speaker 2: I think if you've bought one of these cars, you're
- 30:39Speaker 2: going to have fun with it. You're going to enjoy it,
- 30:41Speaker 2: and you should. It's a it's a great looking car.
- 30:44Speaker 2: I would be interested to know if people do tune these.
- 30:47Speaker 2: So if you do own one and you've kind of
- 30:49Speaker 2: done a bit of who ha to it, let us
- 30:51Speaker 2: know what we'd love to see.
- 30:52Speaker 1: But yeah, I think it looks good. Ad a red one.
- 30:54Speaker 3: I don't know what color?
- 30:56Speaker 1: Did you have?
- 30:57Speaker 4: Gray?
- 30:58Speaker 2: Yeah, matches your personality. I think I'm not really a
- 31:01Speaker 2: fan of red cars. But you know you've got the
- 31:03Speaker 2: red seats apparently, No, not red seats either. I'm going
- 31:06Speaker 2: straight down to super cheap and getting.
- 31:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:10Speaker 2: I think it's a great looking car, but they've served
- 31:13Speaker 2: up as it should be, but there's it hasn't exceeded expectations.
- 31:18Speaker 3: Yes, agreed. Now what's going on with you? What's what's
- 31:21Speaker 3: happening on the You changed your shoes today?
- 31:23Speaker 2: Or are we still wearing your famous sweded down show?
- 31:28Speaker 4: I will actually point out we had a on one
- 31:31Speaker 4: of the down days of our biggest UV test.
- 31:33Speaker 3: We went go karting as a team and I won.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Obviously, the way he looked at me was like like
- 31:40Speaker 2: you had spectacles.
- 31:42Speaker 1: And of course, so they.
- 31:46Speaker 4: Requested that the winner does a shoey, which is where
- 31:49Speaker 4: you tip the beer into the shoe and drink it.
- 31:52Speaker 1: Wow, a bunch of engineers that would have gone down
- 31:54Speaker 1: the tree.
- 31:54Speaker 4: The problem was that the following day we were filming
- 31:57Speaker 4: and I had my my suede shoes on, so I
- 32:01Speaker 4: had to nominate someone. So I did a showy out
- 32:04Speaker 4: of our videographer's shoe and I now have an itchy mouth,
- 32:08Speaker 4: which is.
- 32:10Speaker 1: And an itchy dick. That bit doesn't really make well
- 32:16Speaker 1: maybe yeast.
- 32:17Speaker 2: You've told me before yeast infections work in mysterious ways.
- 32:22Speaker 4: Yeah, so that that was good fun. But you did
- 32:26Speaker 4: I can't Oh there we go, sorry about that. If
- 32:28Speaker 4: you're listening, there's the there's the effects of a shoey.
- 32:31Speaker 4: Did you have any beers beforehand? Or was this like
- 32:33Speaker 4: first one, first one for the one and it was down.
- 32:36Speaker 3: For the year. No, just kidding, Oh no, but was
- 32:39Speaker 3: this the first one of the day? Yep?
- 32:40Speaker 1: I couldn't think of anything worse.
- 32:42Speaker 3: You know.
- 32:42Speaker 2: During An's act day there was two up going on
- 32:46Speaker 2: and it was getting fucking wild, like wild. There was
- 32:50Speaker 2: there was a shoey being passed around. There was a
- 32:53Speaker 2: chick who had a tits out at one point, like
- 32:56Speaker 2: the chick who was getting on tits. I was doing
- 32:58Speaker 2: the showy like it was just I couldn't help but
- 33:00Speaker 2: think like my grandfather would be so proud, like he
- 33:03Speaker 2: this is what he was in the trenches for people
- 33:05Speaker 2: drinking beer out of shoes and so that chick could
- 33:08Speaker 2: get our tits out. But yeah, I just I could
- 33:11Speaker 2: not think of anything. Well, I think, what did you
- 33:13Speaker 2: get to a shoey? Mate?
- 33:14Speaker 3: So what did you do when it was passed around? Oh?
- 33:16Speaker 3: I just couldn't. Fun fact, I haven't had a beer
- 33:20Speaker 3: in four months. Oh yeah, that explains everything. Yeah.

- 33:25Speaker 1: four months either.

- 33:35Speaker 3: Trigger alcohol in the yeast. All right, So to the
