- 0:00Many years ago, tough pigs.com be got a great tradition of
- 0:05arguing about the Muppets on the internet now.
- 0:09Tough pigs has assembled a team of Muppet experts from all over
- 0:14the world for a summit on the state of the Muppets.
- 0:18This is a great Everybody talk loud, everybody.
- 0:53Talk loud. Everybody talk soft.
- 0:56Everybody talk soft. Thank you.
- 0:59Hello. Welcome to the spring 2023
- 1:01edition of the great Muppet fandom panel from tough
- 1:04pics.com. This is a panel discussion show,
- 1:06during which you'll hear highlights from the Henson
- 1:08headlines, discussed by a panel of Muppet nerds.
- 1:11It's sort of like a quarterly report on the state of our Fuzzy
- 1:13Friends at Muppet studio, Henson Co and Sesame Workshop, except
- 1:17the real quarterly reports at Sesame Workshop.
- 1:19Right now, presumably involve a lot more hair pulling and
- 1:21profane screaming. We've got time to catch up
- 1:24though. We might have just the same
- 1:26amount of that. Anyhow, each of our panelists
- 1:28has brought a discussion question.
- 1:30For us, which could be about anything related to Jim Henson
- 1:32or the Muppets. But we expect our main topics.
- 1:34This time will be Sesame Street commercials, Disney's creative
- 1:37Muppet promotions. And the recent success of the
- 1:39Jim Henson Company by which I, of course, mean, the release of
- 1:43Billy bunny, for all this and more will be talking with the
- 1:46hosts of Muppet fans, talking not the show.
- 1:49I used to host of the same name, nor any of the podcasts with
- 1:52that name on YouTube. Now, I'm talking about the one
- 1:55hosted by marry Maria and Sprout, which stands out because
- 1:57it's hosted by those people instead of other Let's introduce
- 2:01the panelists. First up Muppet fans, talking
- 2:04co-host and good friend of mine. C is for cookie.
- 2:07That's good enough for sprouting.
- 2:09Hi, it's me Sprout monster. Okay, how's it going?
- 2:15Hi, welcome to the show. I saw an opportunity I was so
- 2:21not expecting that next their co-host and partner a tough pigs
- 2:25contributor although I might like it for one afternoon.
- 2:29I don't want to live Yvonne Maria.
- 2:31Please don't live in Lyon, very tiny and I will die.
- 2:33If you, you know, try. I said, I don't want to.
- 2:37I just said, I don't want it for an afternoon.
- 2:39Are you here anyway? Okay.
- 2:42Fine. And finally, some have called
- 2:45her the queen of Muppets Twitter.
- 2:46But she insists. She's just the HR department, a
- 2:49gift from my mother, the day I was born.
- 2:51I love it because it's Mary. Hello, and I'm JD Hansel, thank
- 2:58you, thank you. Listeners might not know this,
- 3:01but we all became friends over Twitter.
- 3:04The most Dependable, social media platform.
- 3:07We've been Pals for almost a couple of years now, and I'm so
- 3:10used to chatting with you all and Richard and be on Twitter,
- 3:13but I feel like it's been a minute.
- 3:15Since we all really talked, how have you all been, what's new
- 3:18with you? And is there more Muppet fans
- 3:20talking coming in the future? I have been busy as a Bee.
- 3:23I've never stopped doing anything.
- 3:25You've been busy as our friend, be your name is Mary.
- 3:28I'm busy as our friend, be you. I know her.
- 3:30That's true. Everybody knows.
- 3:32And everyone listening will absolutely know who were talking
- 3:35about when we say be. There would be no ambiguity.
- 3:38There will be no complications with any of our personal
- 3:41conversations from Twitter bleeding into this podcast.
- 3:44I do for the larger, tough pigs audience.
- 3:46It'll be fun. Don't know who be is.
- 3:48That's your fault. If you don't know who he is,
- 3:51then you should follow be. If you didn't know who be is,
- 3:55you need to watch more Sesame Street, if you don't know who he
- 3:59is, you Be listening to some more Muppet fans talking.
- 4:02Yeah. So what is Muppet?
- 4:03Fans talking a podcast. Oh, great.
- 4:06Thank you. Well, that's all I needed to
- 4:07know. That's the end of our show.
- 4:09I guess we answered the question.
- 4:11I-i'm doing I'm doing got engaged.
- 4:17That's wild. Mmm, oh really?
- 4:19Yeah, umm, I don't know. I don't know if they're here.
- 4:22Are they here? Hello.
- 4:23Maria. Did you lose your fiance?
- 4:25It happens. They're so small holla.
- 4:29Oh, Marco. It's me.
- 4:33This is my lovely partner. Sprout.
- 4:35Hi. And the three of us run Muppet
- 4:38fans talking which we haven't done in a year.
- 4:41Has it been that long? It will be a year in April.
- 4:44I haven't recorded in over a year.
- 4:47Oh, wow. But mother fans talking stopped
- 4:51right in April because that's when a bunch of shrimp went down
- 4:55for all of us, personal things popped up at the time that.
- 4:59Yeah. You needed.
- 5:00Our utmost attention at that point.
- 5:03Okay, did it have to do with Richard ruining everything?
- 5:06As usual it's actually all Richards fault.
- 5:09Okay, yeah, Richard is the reason my dad died.
- 5:15Well, that we already knew it was Richard.
- 5:23And he will do it again. You know, people say like your
- 5:31dad's, Richard will kill them. The podcast over again?
- 5:39This is horrible. Yeah, it's pretty terrible, but
- 5:43I'm thinking I'm gonna use all of it.
- 5:46Yeah. Okay.
- 5:47So that's what mother fans talking is.
- 5:49It's a horrible podcast that we use because we love it and we're
- 5:52all friends. AIDS.
- 5:53And it's this. It's what you're hearing is this
- 5:56but more and very gay. Yes, true.
- 6:00This is a tangent. Did I tell you guys?
- 6:02What my dad said? When I came out to him.
- 6:05No. See, I don't know.
- 6:07He had this very weird dry sense of humor.
- 6:10So, I don't know if he was joking or not.
- 6:12I came out to him when we were in Disney World and I said, Dad,
- 6:17I'm gay. I like women.
- 6:19And we were walking towards the castle, and he stopped.
- 6:22And he turned to me, and he said, This is no longer the
- 6:24happiest place on Earth and he kept walking.
- 6:28Oh no. Well, I don't I think it was a
- 6:35joke. I mean he had a gay brother that
- 6:37he loved dearly. I don't know if it was still a
- 6:40gel, sorry if he was serious, but it kills me and I love to
- 6:44tell the tale. We don't know if it's hey, I
- 6:47don't know if it's like a super makeup.
- 6:49Hell level of like so homophobic.
- 6:52It's funny. Yes, it is.
- 6:55It is the supernatural version of.
- 6:57Wow, it's so bad, it's good. Okay.
- 6:59Okay, I need the one joke image of John shaking Garfield with Ru
- 7:04J or source. Okay is not know what he's
- 7:13gotten himself into. I knew what I was getting myself
- 7:16into I just I did. I know I've listened to your
- 7:20show before, okay, but the thing is, he thinks that this is a
- 7:24muppet fandom panel podcast know this is a backdoor Muppet fans
- 7:28talking episode where stealing your show your soft launching,
- 7:34the Muppet fans talking return. You're stealing a second pod
- 7:39Cast of mine. Yes, our universe gonna steal
- 7:43it. We're gonna steal more podcasts
- 7:45like Richard kills dad's, we're gonna steal everything you own.
- 7:50Well, here's the deal though. If you steal all my stuff, then
- 7:54you also get all of the characters from my old
- 7:57commercials, from Muppet fans talking.
- 7:59So you are going to have to deal with Thomas and Ethan.
- 8:02You may not like Thomason Ethan. Yes I'm getting free.
- 8:04IP o-- you. It sounds like A blessing, but
- 8:09it is actually a curse. I don't, I think you're going to
- 8:13have a hard time knowing what to do with Thomas anythin.
- 8:15I think they mean well, but there are a couple of very
- 8:18confusing Brits. Okay, can we lock them in a room
- 8:21somewhere? They already are locked in a
- 8:23room somewhere. It is now time for the great
- 8:28Muppet. Question panelists.
- 8:30Are you ready? Yes, great.
- 8:33This episode's, great Muppet. Question is, if you could pick
- 8:36any episode of Fraggle Rock, keep one human and replace the
- 8:39rest of the cast with Muppets. Who Would You cast in what
- 8:41parts? Okay, I am thinking like, the
- 8:45average Twitter user that has no fucking idea what anything
- 8:49Muppets is. They saw Muppets once, when they
- 8:52were five and they're like, I know the Muppets, they don't
- 8:55know the Muppets. I think they do so, you know,
- 8:58the episode where Uncle traveling, Matt is on the roller
- 9:03coaster. And Dave goals, has that great
- 9:05story of him being on a roller coaster for like 7 hours.
- 9:08Yes. Instead of Uncle traveling,
- 9:11Matt, your lease, it with Christopher Lloyd 1980s,
- 9:15Christopher Lloyd Wright right off the back of Back to the
- 9:18Future, Christopher Lloyd, that's our uncle traveling Matt.
- 9:21And then, you know, you do the average, you know, Twitter
- 9:23things like Mercury. Maya is global and he is red and
- 9:29fawzi is wimbley and cars, always were and just a smoky and
- 9:33sweet is is is Junior cord and I know so much about them up a
- 9:38song. So smart.
- 9:41That's my idea, that was a very good impression of be.
- 9:46Mary, I wanted to just ask you, if you could pick any episode of
- 9:50Fraggle Rock, keep on human, and replace the rest of the cast
- 9:52with Muppets. Who Would You cast in what
- 9:54parts? I would do.
- 9:55The episode. I don't care which is the one
- 9:58with boober and his blanket where he accidentally kills
- 10:01Wembley for a few minutes. Yep.
- 10:03Yep. Yeah.
- 10:03I watched it recently. He for a few minutes there.
- 10:06He kills Wembley. And then when we just comes back
- 10:08to life. Yeah.
- 10:09Yeah. My one human would be a Robert
- 10:12Capa friend. He would play Wembley and if you
- 10:14don't know who Robert CAPA, Is he played Raleigh in the Diary
- 10:18of a Wimpy Kid movies. I'm reference for people younger
- 10:24than me but go on and then I would have buried the played by
- 10:29Miss Piggy. I would have double blade bygone
- 10:33so I would have Mochi. Be played by Sam the eagle and I
- 10:37would have read Blade, III Zoot and then I would have the trash
- 10:45eat. Made by sweetums and following
- 10:47gun, would re respectively paid by partner knee.
- 10:52Hmm. Not Statler and Waldorf no, Bert
- 10:55and Ernie. She's made up her mind Maria.
- 10:58Okay. I'm sorry I just wanted to ask
- 11:01and then doc would be played by a pop since rocket would be big
- 11:05mean. Carl good.
- 11:08That's very good. Thank you good.
- 11:10A little too obvious, but I appreciate it sometimes there's
- 11:13just a right answer. Sometimes, the best answer is
- 11:16right in front of you. It's true.
- 11:17It's true Sprout. So I thought the Org, who would
- 11:22be king would be a fun one to do.
- 11:24Okay, solely. Because I want SOG to be junior
- 11:28gorg so I could see a hand puppet version of fog.
- 11:31Oh, all right, that's it. I'm picturing it.
- 11:36I'm picturing it and now I'm glad that I never have to
- 11:38picture it again. I also had fun with Padma gorg
- 11:44Pas gorg is Tama Nella grinder fall and MOG work is sweetums.
- 11:50Okay I like it. We all know how Fraggle Rock
- 11:55loves to use special effects. So for this, I really want to
- 12:00put it to the test in our human is none.
- 12:03Other Danny DeVito as Wembley fraggle?
- 12:08Yes, yes. Yes, question.
- 12:12The Danny DeVito, is it Danny DeVito from like, always, sunny
- 12:14are where are we getting like tax?
- 12:1680cm DeVito. We are exiting data, okay?
- 12:20Now I will just If it had been, it's always sunny, Danny DeVito.
- 12:25Then that episode, when Billy and the Egg would make a heck of
- 12:29a lot of things throwing that out there.
- 12:32So after this, I just started having fun and making a little
- 12:35bit of random choices. Mochi is the Swedish, Chef red
- 12:39is Miss Piggy. Gobo was scooter.
- 12:41The Gopher boober is Sam the Eagle.
- 12:45The background fraggles for our fun musical.
- 12:47Bit are the Electric Mayhem. Of course, cotterpin doozer is
- 12:51robbing the Fog and then for our trash Heap, saying Marjorie is
- 12:55played by Rolf, one of the most philosophical Muppets and Philo
- 12:58and gunge are Statler and Waldorf, because of all the
- 13:01jokes they crack in this episode, we have the same brain
- 13:05and with that. It's about time for me to get to
- 13:07the news. But before I do, I'd like to
- 13:09remind everyone that we're not covering all the Muppet news on
- 13:11this show, this isn't a weekly updates show so if you're
- 13:13looking for that listen to another podcast.
- 13:15However, if you'd like to stay up to date on everything
- 13:17happening in the mobile world, as it's happening, you've got to
- 13:20follow tough pigs.com where Social networks are sold, you
- 13:23really don't have a lot of better options and if you get
- 13:26your news from the scuffs, on your shoes, then that won't help
- 13:28at all. Jim Henson said that, it's time
- 13:31for news. Let's start with Sesame Street
- 13:34in early. January of this year.
- 13:36The magazine Elle not like the letter, but spelled ele had Bert
- 13:41and Ernie stop by to play a game of song.
- 13:44Association for a fun video on YouTube.
- 13:46Basically, they're given a word prompt and then they have 10
- 13:50seconds to start singing a song. I'm with that word in the lyrics
- 13:54panelists. Have you seen it?
- 13:55And what did you think? Yes, yes I've seen it and I
- 13:59loved it. I thought it was the greatest
- 14:01piece of Cinema made in quite a long time.
- 14:04I had to so many times. I remember I was having a really
- 14:08crappy day that day and then I watched that video and I don't
- 14:12even remember what I was upset about.
- 14:13Yeah, it was weirdly a pick-me-up for me too and it was
- 14:16one of those odd things where for once I saw a Sesame Street
- 14:19thing and I wanted to show it to other people like I made my
- 14:22Brother watch it, exactly. It's just, it's, it's good.
- 14:26It's a Sesame Street, really 2023 and it's good.
- 14:30It's fun. It's a burden.
- 14:31Ernie thing in 2023. That's funny and it shocks me a
- 14:35genuine Burton or anything where you and they let the I mean they
- 14:40let Peter and Eric play and I love just watching Peter and
- 14:44Derek play. I watched it again right before
- 14:47we did this because I watched it a few times when it came out,
- 14:49but I was like, I want to have my thoughts.
- 14:52It's written down. So I do have some things if you
- 14:53don't mind Hayes. Yeah.
- 14:56Okay. Um, I'm obsessed with how Burt
- 14:58said will sing or rap if you're so moved.
- 15:01I love how he said that. Just if you're so moved, Bernie
- 15:05trying to do a Randy Newman impression is just very good and
- 15:08I really want to know what face Peter lens is pulling to make
- 15:11that voice cuz you've you know he's making a weird face trying
- 15:14to do that voice of course. Don't poke me Burt has said that
- 15:19many times and every time it gets a laugh Army bird singing
- 15:23while thing also reminded me of oh yeah.
- 15:27Group with me baby is very Out Of Tune.
- 15:32It reminded me of the Kermit cover of wild thing.
- 15:36Oh yes, I'm Kermit on page. You Make My Heart Sing it's
- 15:41terrible. They're harmonizing on dream was
- 15:44beautiful anyway. Sprout and I are very Bert and
- 15:47Ernie coated. So if you want to make fan art
- 15:48of us, we are them basically, I would just love to bring up the
- 15:51The fact that I finally got already singing, Simon and
- 15:54Garfunkel? Yes this is all I've ever wanted
- 15:58life and I didn't even know I needed it.
- 16:01We had a whole Simon and Garfunkel Simon.
- 16:04Who are focal the last time?
- 16:16I drove around town. It was fun.
- 16:22It was nice. It was gay.
- 16:25Go to replace JD will do. Okay?
- 16:30Okay. So Sesame Street, characters
- 16:33have been popping up in a bunch of commercials lately.
- 16:36Cookie Monster was one of several celebrities to appear in
- 16:39a promo for the big game in February on Fox Sports.
- 16:43The count was lectured about NerdWallet for some reason and
- 16:46United Airlines released a series of commercials featuring
- 16:49Oscar, the Grouch as their new chief.
- 16:51Arash officer to promote their efforts to turn trash into fuel
- 16:55for airplanes. What did you all think of seeing
- 16:58our Sesame friends in these commercial spots?
- 17:01So it shouldn't feel weird, because even especially with
- 17:05Cookie Monster, Muppets were originally Starry in
- 17:07commercials, because that was the best they could get.
- 17:10And he had it is very strange. Hmm.
- 17:13And I think it's because we've had 50 plus years of these
- 17:16characters being characters on Sesame Street away from
- 17:19commercials. And so to bring them out of the
- 17:22Eat and not into our world into the world of commercialism feel
- 17:27slimy and gross and bad. And also as soon as I saw Cookie
- 17:32Monster in that big game hop-up add, I didn't want to see any
- 17:36other actor. I was like, well he's here, do
- 17:39something with him but he's just he's you're doing nothing.
- 17:44I'm tired. Go to bed.
- 17:47Mmm. Yeah, he's there for the sake of
- 17:49being here. My eyes, how it was Was man
- 17:52Sesame, Street, really Sesame, Workshop really needs money,
- 17:56right? That well, that's what it all
- 17:57screams, but here's the other side of it like this means we
- 18:01actually get to see Sesame Street characters in things that
- 18:04are geared towards adults. And so they're actually trying a
- 18:07little bit to be funny and entertaining, almost sort of
- 18:09kinda, but in a weird way. And I do like that they are in
- 18:13physical sets because and this is, you know, no fault of their
- 18:17own. But because of covid so much has
- 18:18become, you know, blue screen with obsessed.
- 18:22Lately. Yeah, and I don't fault them for
- 18:24that. But also I am a big lover of
- 18:26physical sets me too and so to see them in physical sets, feels
- 18:31great. I even though it's like, I don't
- 18:34want to see the count doing all of this because it feels so bad.
- 18:40When I like that, he's in a physical place.
- 18:43I did hate how he walked out of the bus, he looked so tall.
- 18:47Did anyone else feel like you look so tall when he was walking
- 18:50out of the bus? Maria, some girl, just like
- 18:52that. What are you?
- 18:57She's talking about. How the count is hot.
- 19:00Okay? Is that, was it just me?
- 19:05That it felt so weird, though, the count looked too tall
- 19:08getting out of the bus, something about the count was
- 19:10off. It all felt weird the way that
- 19:12he walked felt strange. Yes.
- 19:14Maybe it's the way he walked. Why are you sipping over the
- 19:19count? For comedic purposes.
- 19:24If you joke about something long enough it no longer becomes a
- 19:27joke. Mary, I'm warning you, I'm okay
- 19:30with that. I'm okay, joking the game you
- 19:33joke for real. So I guess I I like seeing the
- 19:38Sesame Street characters trying to do funny things for adults.
- 19:42And I'm relieved that these commercials have all been
- 19:46pitched at adults. Like it's not children's
- 19:50products, which would feel weird To have the Sesame Street
- 19:52characters doing that. I mean, they're already like
- 19:54their faces already put on juice boxes and things, but you know
- 19:56what I mean? It would feel weird for a Sesame
- 19:59Street character, like big bird or whoever to say, hey kids, you
- 20:02should buy this, it's really good.
- 20:04That would feel deeply wrong and also it is someone else doing
- 20:08the pitching in each case, it is not the Sesame Street characters
- 20:11saying, we like this product, if that makes sense.
- 20:14Yeah, I can, I can I get a hot take for a minute, that's what
- 20:19the shows for by all means. All right, I did Mind the door
- 20:23Dash commercial for the Super Bowl.
- 20:24The Sesame Street did a few years ago, I do not mind it.
- 20:27I thought it was a very well-executed commercial area,
- 20:31stop looking at me like that. I didn't say anything.
- 20:36You know, you're doing anyways. I didn't mind it.
- 20:41I thought it's a well-executed commercial.
- 20:43I think it showed the world very nicely.
- 20:45It was geared towards adults, but so it didn't feel
- 20:49manipulative like kind of what JD it was me.
- 20:51Mentioning and I didn't mind it. I think the volume of the
- 20:55commercials were getting now is where it's like, oh, I've
- 20:58concerned for Sesame Workshop. That's kind of where I'm at
- 21:00right now, but I also majored in marketing, so who knows?
- 21:04It's just the count one that really skeeves me out because
- 21:06he's like me, yeah, gas prices are going up.
- 21:09That's great. It's like, oh yeah.
- 21:11That's great. That's fantastic.
- 21:16Which was funny. It was funny.
- 21:19Well, in funny now was it Is it is it funny for people like me
- 21:24with no money? Well, But that's the joke.
- 21:29The joke is that the count doesn't understand that your
- 21:31suffering is it? Yes, it is lives in a castle.
- 21:36On a mountain, he does not know what the average Poor Joe was
- 21:39going through. Are you saying that he's the one
- 21:42percent he is and I think he should be the only one who's
- 21:46allowed to be in it. The Sesame Street muppets were
- 21:49just featured in another interesting place Sesame Street
- 21:53night on The Masked Singer. We didn't have time to watch all
- 21:56of it tonight. Since its During the night that
- 21:58we're recording this, we always seem to have scheduling
- 22:01conflicts on this podcast, whatever they do a muppet thing
- 22:03on the mask singer. And I'm always a little bit
- 22:05relieved because I don't want to have to deal with all that, but
- 22:08we did watch a minute of it before we recorded this.
- 22:11So my gosh. Was it auto-tuned?
- 22:15What it was so auto-tuned. So just like BTS, I've only seen
- 22:20Karma and obviously I only saw Kermit section because you think
- 22:24I'm going to watch The Masked Singer.
- 22:26No, right. Right.
- 22:29Okay. Mary Mary, do you watch the
- 22:31match went through a really rough time during covid.
- 22:35As we all did the night requirement was revealed as a
- 22:38contestant on the messaging or was the last night?
- 22:40I watched The Masked Singer because all I could think was
- 22:42it's not going to get better than this but they just had Dick
- 22:46Van Dyke. They did just have to Van Dyke
- 22:48and I love that, man. He's he is my one and forever
- 22:52for eternity and at some point I very much hope that on this
- 22:57Podcast, I will be able to suddenly surprise people with
- 23:02someone that they weren't expecting to see, but only time
- 23:05will tell Sprout. Have you seen the mask singer?
- 23:08I have seen the Kermit clip and I have seen the clip from
- 23:11Sesame. Street's episode.
- 23:15Hello. Hi.
- 23:27Like woman jump-scare. Hello Beastie, that's my bestie
- 23:32surprise. I'm here.
- 23:33Hello welcome baby. I I for the listeners at home, I
- 23:40thought it would be fun to surprise the Muppet fans talking
- 23:42gang with their friend. Our friend from Twitter and from
- 23:46elsewhere and for many Muppet fans, talking appearances.
- 23:48It's be high. You might know, be from her
- 23:52horrible taste in men. Wow!
- 23:55You're really gonna start that immediately?
- 23:57Why? S Be Be You technically a former
- 24:03host of Ft. She was use a host, no one
- 24:07knows. I'm one of the founders.
- 24:09Yeah, that's the floor. None of the video from this is
- 24:13going to be released just so you all know none of the videos
- 24:15going. Yeah, that's right.
- 24:16Private just naughty. I look horrifying say same as I
- 24:21just had to I just had to deal with like a bunch of six
- 24:25teenagers and they were making fun of me the whole time.
- 24:28Well, that's not nice. We would never do that to you
- 24:30for our final item in Sesame Street news.
- 24:33Variety reported on March 13th, at Sesame Street, is now doing
- 24:36an FTS at tough pigs. We've been pretty vocal about
- 24:40not feeling great about this, but some of us are more bothered
- 24:45than others as Louis pointed out in our in episode 2 of The Great
- 24:51Muppet fandom panel. They don't all have the worst
- 24:54environmental impact but these images That are for trading are
- 24:59not the most interesting use of the technology.
- 25:01They're not necessarily worth the impact they have and were
- 25:05generally, not sure who these Fraggle Rock Labyrinth and now
- 25:08Sesame NF to use our even for so Sesame Street.
- 25:13N FTS, do we, are we going to get them?
- 25:16Do we like them? All I'm gonna say is nft stands
- 25:19for? No frickin.
- 25:20Thanks, we've been saying fuck. You can say fuck if you want to.
- 25:25Yeah, I just felt it was little at that photo.
- 25:27For Sesame Street has, yeah on Sesame Street, they're always
- 25:30saying freaking every episode just to be on the safe side to
- 25:35keep it G rated. It's always like everybody.
- 25:38So freaking happy. See you?
- 25:42And if she's literally literally had they were using so much like
- 25:47resources that many schools didn't have heat for the winter
- 25:51Sesame Street, just shouldn't be like a part of that.
- 25:55The way I see it. The only nft is I care for or
- 25:58some nice hook. I'll tell you something right
- 26:04now. Mary, that is not going to make
- 26:05it into the Final Cut, but I appreciate it very much.
- 26:09No but it did make you smile it isn't.
- 26:11If this was Mother fans talking it would go and Muppets Phantom.
- 26:16I know, I know this is what will never be on topics.
- 26:24They won't allow us we're to wee volger for them.
- 26:29I mean you've been you've been in the pocket of the media Elite
- 26:32Jay-Z. Oh no, where's the people cry
- 26:35now? I have a question.
- 26:38Yes. Would it be allowed if she had
- 26:39said nice frickin time? Yeah, sure it's not.
- 26:46It's gonna get caught either way.
- 26:50Okay. Well friends, you've given us a
- 26:53lot to think about but it's time for a commercial break.
- 26:56We'll be right back with more Muppet talk right after this.
- 27:02Ruling Thomas, erlewine Ethan, but with Thomas anythin of
- 27:05Thomasson Ethan's voice is a British person.
- 27:07So a couple of impression it's from England with one Mission,
- 27:09providing Great British voices, that's our business.
- 27:12If you need a voice that sounds like a British person, we can
- 27:14provide that voice. We can sound like lots of
- 27:16different British people, don't believe us, he is John Cleese
- 27:18William. John Cleese.
- 27:19They can sound like lots of different British people just
- 27:21getting that wasn't John Cleese. It was Ethan.
- 27:23Guess it was, but don't take our word for it.
- 27:24Here's Elton John my um, Elton John.
- 27:26That wasn't John Cleese was Ethan, building.
- 27:28John is another one of the voices.
- 27:29We like To do these pretty groovy.
- 27:30You see groovy. Let's confirm that he is truly
- 27:32Andrew. Hi, I'm Julie Andrews.
- 27:34He's pretty groovy some of our other voices, include Michael,
- 27:36Caine, all your Michael Caine. The Patrick Stewart.
- 27:38I am Sir. Patrick Stewart, groaning
- 27:40Stones? I am the Rolling.
- 27:41Stones Wittenberg, wait a minute, Ethan.
- 27:43Are you sure? She's British now.
- 27:46That's where it is. Seamlessly from Somalia.
- 27:48That's a little different because it is, he said growing
- 27:50Omega, right? That's a little different gears.
- 27:52It is he is the end of the commercial or yo me the nine
- 27:54dollars and we're Thomason Ethan of Thomason.
- 27:56Ethan's voice is a British person.
- 27:57Visit our website at UDOT, gov.uk William Emma.
- 28:01Watson now we're done with her but no Ethan And so, the new
- 28:09tough pigs slogan is you'll love this live laugh.
- 28:14Love right? I do love it perfectly.
- 28:18Isn't that great? Yes I was just well yes, just
- 28:22well I have a question about these t-shirts.
- 28:24Yes, yes. Are they wearable know that
- 28:28someone else? The only downside is that we
- 28:30haven't figured out how to make their shirts wearable.
- 28:32Yet we figured out how to make their shirts watchable.
- 28:35So, you can watch them for hours if you want to.
- 28:37Now, I know they're watchable. But are they washable?
- 28:41Oh, that's a great question. No, no.
- 28:44You only get the one time. I have this question for you.
- 28:48Yes. Are these shirts just jpegs?
- 28:53Well, no, that's a very good question.
- 28:55We, they're not just jpegs. They might seem like they're
- 28:59just jpegs, but they are not just jpegs.
- 29:01I don't know, they're not gifts. Here's the thing about things.
- 29:05Else. No, none of that.
- 29:07Now, they are images. They are images, but these
- 29:12images, you know. They're these Collectibles.
- 29:14You. See you in Great Club.
- 29:17No, absolutely not. You have to pay $60 o $60
- 29:23t-that's right? Gee, that's such a steal.
- 29:27It is such a bargain. It is, this is what we're
- 29:30saying, it's a bargain, you pay $60 and then you get an image
- 29:34file. With a unique code.
- 29:37Now it may look like there are 50 other of these collectible
- 29:42images that are exactly the same but technically the code is
- 29:45completely unique. No, will they say well they all
- 29:48say live laugh? Love or are some of us going to
- 29:52lose out on this amazing idea. They all say live laugh love and
- 29:57that's what makes them distinct, tough pigs IP.
- 30:02Now I just got here. Yes.
- 30:04Hello Maria. How are you?
- 30:08Good. What the fuck is going on?
- 30:12Well, here is telling us about the wonderful new tough pigs,
- 30:15merge? Yeah.
- 30:18In the great is the great. Do you want to buy it?
- 30:21Oh, definitely. Yeah, I'm so glad.
- 30:25Well, here's the one problem right now, a certain someone's
- 30:29arm is extremely tired hurting very much from doing this.
- 30:33So I'm going to have to say goodbye, but thank you very much
- 30:35for your time visit mr. Squirrel are extremely expensive
- 30:40images. Has.
- 30:41I can't wait for them to be wearable.
- 30:44Well, hey, don't hold your breath.
- 30:46All right, later, everybody. Goodbye.
- 30:52Welcome back, friends. I'd like to Circle back to
- 30:54Sesame Street for just one more thing and that one more thing is
- 30:57Sprouts discussion. Question for us Sprout, what
- 31:00have you got for us to discuss today?
- 31:02So I thought it would be a fun little thinking experiment.
- 31:07To question, what would Sesame Street be like today?
- 31:11Day if HBO hadn't bought into the company outside of defunct,
- 31:17because we all know they sold literally money.
- 31:21Yeah. About to say, they went from so
- 31:24many episodes to like six a year.
- 31:27So I'm going to say defunct if they didn't.
- 31:31I feel like less. Like we wouldn't have Elmo's.
- 31:38Elmo said Elmo's. Late Late Show.
- 31:39Is that the name? I'm so tired.
- 31:42Not slept. Who knows?
- 31:43Who cares? I think it's been not too late.
- 31:46Yeah, not too late. Sorry, Rachel I did.
- 31:50Yeah, I did not sleep last night.
- 31:52We wouldn't have that. I don't think truly know.
- 31:57We wouldn't have that, but I do think that Sesame Street might
- 32:00have been able to get Get some other streaming deals and maybe
- 32:04get some of their other stuff back up on streaming.
- 32:07That HBO Max has just not been interested in making available.
- 32:12Yeah, I think Disney would have bought Sesame Street, that is.
- 32:17I hate. So it's probably a right, but
- 32:23right now I'm kind of like. Is it going to happen?
- 32:26Now that HBO Max is getting cold feet.
- 32:29I don't know if it's going to happen now, I'm just saying now
- 32:33that the HBO deals kind of seeming like it's starting to
- 32:35fall through the cracks, I'm not shutting anything down, is what
- 32:39I'm gonna say. Well how about we've already
- 32:42seen Apple TVs success with Fraggle Rock?
- 32:46What's to say? They don't buy the rights to
- 32:48Sesame. Well I think that that's a very
- 32:52good thought but at this point I do Wonder are we past the point
- 32:56of someone else getting is streaming deal for Sesame
- 32:59Street? And just going straight to
- 33:02Sesame Workshop is in crisis and someone has to by Sesame
- 33:06Workshop itself or else your goes away.
- 33:11But maybe that like you've got a really good point that like, if
- 33:14Apple TV plus could get everybody under the same
- 33:16umbrella, but it might be Disney plus, that's more likely to be
- 33:20able to get everybody under the same roof.
- 33:23Yeah. And there's a hopeful part of me
- 33:27me that I know this will never happen.
- 33:29That's like, oh, Maybe the handsome company can actually
- 33:31help which I know is like, not going to happen there.
- 33:33It's it's a very messy divorce like it's not a child of
- 33:39divorce. I'm a Jim Henson fan sometimes
- 33:45I, you know, it's a Daydream of like oh the good old days but
- 33:49like Henson company was dead in the water too.
- 33:53So like yeah companies are gonna company and companies die and
- 34:01We're in this very weird limbo state where because of Public
- 34:05Funding Sesame has to turn to other options and it is hard to
- 34:13think about it. It's surviving.
- 34:16And that is genuinely making me gonna cry and so I don't like to
- 34:23think about it. If only big bird ran for
- 34:26president, we needed that movie, if it, if HBO didn't, you know,
- 34:34get the the streaming rights and it, you know, it wasn't defunct.
- 34:40Then. Maybe there's an alternate
- 34:44universe where one of those like five seconds streaming apps, you
- 34:47know, the really big ones. What's that one that everyone
- 34:50was shooting on Mary, do you remember?
- 34:52I'm trying to remember, oh, quit bleep.
- 34:55Gonna be the Jeffrey katzenberg joint.
- 34:59Yeah, maybe there is an alternate universe where quippy.
- 35:03So I'm somehow help Sesame Street, only available on
- 35:06quality, you know, speaking of random streaming services.
- 35:12The Jim Henson company. Now has given random streaming
- 35:15now has given many of their projects homes on random
- 35:20streaming services for them. Like they've scattered things
- 35:24all over the dang place. So peacock added, Emma,
- 35:29daughters, jug-band Christmas and the Christmas toy to their
- 35:31service. The Christmas toy is free.
- 35:35Emmett Auto requires a paid subscription.
- 35:38Also behind the pay wall, you can also watch Emma, not An
- 35:41Amazon Prime for free you can. Well well free if you have
- 35:46Amazon Prime which is a lot of money.
- 35:47Heck yeah baby. Okay okay okay capitalist I'm
- 35:53paying Jeff Bezos all my money so I can watch Lenny Bruce died
- 35:58about it. Okay okay here's here's the
- 36:03amazing thing about peacock and the Jim Henson company.
- 36:06Now behind the peacock pay wall is Billy bunnies, animal songs,
- 36:13the 1993 Muppet sing along VHS tape, like I never in a million
- 36:20years never in a million years would have thought the Henson
- 36:23company would release this, which I've never seen in full.
- 36:26I've seen parts of it and part of it was caught up and included
- 36:30into the be and green sing-along tape that I had.
- 36:33Oh, there we go. Mary's, pointing that excites,
- 36:36Mary. My name is Maria.
- 36:38Maria. First, three letters of their
- 36:42name makes no, I knew. I was going to do it at some
- 36:45point. I don't think I've ever done it
- 36:46before, but I knew it was gonna happen tonight.
- 36:48Stop making hand motions. While you're holding your
- 36:51microphone, we are in, you're stuck in the keys, JD I know,
- 36:55I'll never get out of the cube. Have a kid out of the cube.
- 36:58Okay. So Jim Henson's Turkey Hollow.
- 37:01Anyone remember? Turkey Hollow good.
- 37:03No, no, me me, me me. Jim Henson's Turkey Hollow.
- 37:09I bring up because it we'll be coming to or art.
- 37:14Sorry it already is. Apparently I didn't notice it,
- 37:17but that's just me, it's already on Disney plus.
- 37:19Yeah, I'm not sure who cares, but weirdly even though was not
- 37:22made for Disney, it is on Disney.
- 37:24Plus Farscape has come to like YouTube to be peacock.
- 37:31Pluto TV, Amazon Roku Channel, Plex and Shout Factory TV while
- 37:37we're on the topic of the Jim Henson company.
- 37:39I want to shout out Jim Henson companies big win at the Oscars
- 37:44for Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, who's nice to see
- 37:47Lisa, Henson up on that stage. She looks wonderful.
- 37:51He did also, I just want to shout out my friend, Oliver, who
- 37:55worked on that. He technically also won an
- 37:57Oscar. Congratulations all over, right?
- 38:00Yeah. People people might know him as
- 38:03cranbersher online. I think this is a really cool
- 38:08moment for the Jim Henson company, which Usually, the Jim
- 38:12Henson company has a lot of wins on television.
- 38:14They get a lot of em, he's pretty easily, but in terms of
- 38:18recognition for their films, I mean so much of their recent
- 38:23movies have been, you know, there was the Happy Time murders
- 38:25a few years ago they did the what?
- 38:29Okay, what was that the Alexander and the Terrible?
- 38:32Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, they did that movie.
- 38:37Yeah, I didn't know they did that movie.
- 38:39Wow, Let's see. There's 24.
- 38:41Producers on that one. Yeah, it's a Disney movie.
- 38:45But yeah, whatever reducer reason, the Jim Henson company
- 38:48was also a production company on it and Lisa Henson was the
- 38:53producer. So this was like, the tail end
- 38:57of Disney making that kind of movie that sort of, like, just a
- 39:01real live action, family comedy. It feels like it's the last time
- 39:04when Disney was on normal movie studio that wasn't entirely
- 39:09built around just cranking out new installments of Franchises.
- 39:12Yeah. Then just a friend.
- 39:13Yeah. Like this.
- 39:14This is the last time when you might see Disney, do something
- 39:18like take a spec script. Not that this was necessarily
- 39:21that it was a still based on IP the running time for this
- 39:24feature. Film is 81 minutes.
- 39:27Hmm. Which is a short hairy men,
- 39:30sounds wonderful. It sounds wonderful now because
- 39:34we're so used to children's movies being a full two hours.
- 39:39Only you do not know who I am. I would kill for another 80 one
- 39:43minute movie and I feel very uneasy.
- 39:46You kill me and me. Yeah, it's true.
- 39:50I dunno. All I was trying to say there
- 39:56is, I think it's very, very nice that maybe the Jim Henson
- 40:00company is starting to have a little bit of a comeback but
- 40:03keep in mind, stop making faces and middle fingers while I'm
- 40:06trying to talk. I can't think I brought this
- 40:09upon myself but nevertheless we deal with What was I saying?
- 40:13What in the world was I saying their next.
- 40:16The Jim Henson company's next movie is coming to MGM.
- 40:18Plus a streaming service that sounds made up as a joke.
- 40:22I think mg M plus is kind of like a like an add-on to Amazon
- 40:26Prime or it's like okay kind of like your grip box or my
- 40:30personal favorite Acorn TV. Sure.
- 40:34So maybe this will be the next Oscar winner for the Jim Henson
- 40:37company, but I don't think so. I'm just glad that Pinocchio
- 40:40worked out for them. I haven't That film at some
- 40:43point here, fulfilled it's good, it's absolutely wonderful.
- 40:46Okay? Absolutely heartbreaking and
- 40:48beautiful. And if you haven't seen it, I
- 40:50think you should see it. I have a question.
- 40:53Yes. Do we Five Nights at Freddy's
- 40:56could be an Oscar winner. Hey, there's no reason right now
- 41:00to say it. Could it be?
- 41:02Yeah. Say Maria.
- 41:03What discussion question have you brought for us tonight?
- 41:06My discussion question. The Muppets have had many
- 41:09different public perceptions over time.
- 41:11And where do you think it's headed in the near future and
- 41:14how it correlates to, what we see now, because, you know,
- 41:17depending on who you ask the, The Muppets are either seen as,
- 41:19like, kids or family friendly, or adults, or, they're too nice,
- 41:23or they're too edgy. Where do you think that
- 41:25perception is right now? And where do you think it is
- 41:28going in the near future, right? Right now, I think the Muppets
- 41:31are mainly seen as memes, where it's Kermit drinking the tea,
- 41:37drinking the tea, or it's Miss Piggy is Glorious icon, which is
- 41:43in her own, right? Or the Kermit's down bad or see,
- 41:49I would argue that was more of Steve Whitmire in the era of
- 41:54when he did that Ted Talk. I think, I think it's still is
- 41:58carrying over into the public perception.
- 42:00Now, I think that's kind of a hard thing to shake.
- 42:04Yeah, I was gonna say, I think, I think that it's their kind of
- 42:07gonna be forever a little bit stuck in that knee mode, because
- 42:11means that I Like that, like the Kermit T1 that like, had all
- 42:14this, like, bootleg merchandise spawn that you can literally
- 42:17find anywhere. Yeah, he's never going to die
- 42:20because people are getting it for profit and that's what
- 42:22they're really using it for now. But I think it's a mix of meme
- 42:27in a way of like I feel like it was bigger in the early 2010's
- 42:30of that mean era of the Muppets but I feel like they're trying
- 42:34to steer away. At least as me, trying this tear
- 42:36away a bit from that and trying to get them more
- 42:39family-friendly, more Bass. Then anything I do think the
- 42:43direction they're going to be going into in the near future.
- 42:46Is that all of the Muppets are going to become Kpop stands?
- 42:49And I will not elaborate. Okay, good.
- 42:52Well, we, we do have Muppet Mayhem coming out and maybe that
- 42:56takes more of an adult. Turn rice.
- 43:00I have this one fear with muffin Mayhem and maybe this is just
- 43:03the people. I follow on Twitter that there
- 43:06is going to be like this huge group of people who do not give
- 43:09a shit about the puppets, but they We're just going to be
- 43:12there for the human romance and I'm not kidding.
- 43:15I think, what are you doing? I can see it.
- 43:17The weirdest people. Yeah.
- 43:20I mean, you follow all of us. Yeah, yeah.
- 43:22But I don't understand how this is possible at all.
- 43:27Well, that's fair well, enough people know about the human cast
- 43:33of the show. Like, has anyone ever watched a
- 43:35Muppet Show before without any interest, at all in the Muppets
- 43:38use you, you do not know the people I follow on Twitter.
- 43:41Twitter. They were watching them don't
- 43:43and I'm glad watching The Mighty Duck show and they found a ship
- 43:46out of it and they started watching it because of edits of
- 43:51that kind of those ships. That was me.
- 43:53I have nothing because of because of Gregg and Tom and his
- 43:57yeah, edits really shipping at, it's not even just shipping at.
- 44:01It's just like, thirst trap edits really drive a fan base to
- 44:05watch stuff. Yeah, uh-huh.
- 44:08Yeah, you're completely baffled. Why should I know better than
- 44:12anyone? You went and found archival fan
- 44:16mail just for Maria of Sesame Street.
- 44:20That's, that's true. Her, that is Imagine.
- 44:25Imagine if they were, if there was the ability to make and
- 44:28share Maria fancams in the 70s, but would have happened.
- 44:32Yes, I fear. I fear, we will be getting
- 44:34Lillie staying in Muppet Mayhem fancams and I don't I think we
- 44:39do need like fancams. Not of Lilly Singh.
- 44:42No offense to the Lilly Singh. We need like we do need fancams,
- 44:47especially like in The Tick-Tock Errol like we do need like Floyd
- 44:51and Janice edits and you know like has Zoot edits and and Dr.
- 44:56T he sexy man at its we need those things to drive engagement
- 45:00that. Yeah.
- 45:01That would be fully agree because you re like okay The
- 45:05Stanley Parable is one of my favorite video games and it had
- 45:09a really big boom for like a month and then it went down.
- 45:11And it's having a Resurgence right now because some people
- 45:14found narrator lines talking about Stanley and they've been
- 45:19making ship at its and it has a big Resurgence.
- 45:21And and the guy who made it's talking about like how much like
- 45:25sales have gone up in the last couple months because of those
- 45:28fan edits. So we do need those speaking of
- 45:32band on its it makes me think of like because I do follow some
- 45:35people on Tick-Tock who do make like Muppet edits.
- 45:39Yeah. And I'm going to be honest.
- 45:40One of the The best ones I've seen was the one that was
- 45:45Taylor. Swift would have could have
- 45:46should have was not that Christmas, Carol Scrooge.
- 45:49That is such a good really good one and it's things like that
- 45:55that I'm like if we had these her like Muppets Mayhem it would
- 46:00be, it would blow up because people love Taylor, Swift lyrics
- 46:04and people love, whatever it like applying them to certain
- 46:07situations. This doesn't have to do with the
- 46:09Muppets. Can we talk about the tailor?
- 46:11Swift added to that one. Jesus movie from Latin America.
- 46:15What? No.
- 46:16We don't have time. We don't have rooms.
- 46:20It's, it's 10:00 now. Where I am?
- 46:23It's 11:00. Yeah.
- 46:25So public perception changes. And I just want to know, I like,
- 46:33I know the fandom perception. I want to know the, the public
- 46:38perception of the people that aren't Megan.
- 46:41Fans like us or even just casual fans.
- 46:44I want the people that are like, have no clue that Kermit and
- 46:48Peggy broke up. Those type of people, you know.
- 46:51Yeah, yeah. I think that they still think of
- 46:55the Muppets as sort of a family brand for kids, but will
- 46:59probably only be interested in the muppets.
- 47:02Again, if the stuff that the Muppets are doing, has that
- 47:05chaotic like a really big loud, fast energy again, that is We
- 47:11need more explosions. Yes.
- 47:14Yeah, I don't know. I think we'll see.
- 47:16And I do, I do actually want to hear Mary's discussion question
- 47:20because I didn't know where to put it in the plan for this
- 47:22episode because I have no idea what it is.
- 47:25All right, all right, all right, if you were to select any Muppet
- 47:30or Jim Henson character and put them in a bong and smoke them,
- 47:35which one would it be boober? Fraggle?
- 47:41Janice Yes, I was gonna say lose, Eland.
- 47:45Mmm, fishy. Floyd is like my one and only I
- 47:48feel like I would just be having the time of my life.
- 47:51This punk. What about you JD?
- 47:54I'm struggling. I'm struggling to wrap my little
- 47:57brain around. What this question means this is
- 48:00why I asked if this was a family-friendly podcast.
- 48:03Yeah well we're well past that now I guess Big Bird.
- 48:11Oh, go with Bing burger. No, so, that's right.
- 48:17Well, I like the Mellow energy. I've always thought that big
- 48:22bird and bongs just go together. It just makes sense.
- 48:26Ready, boss. I think your friend who likes to
- 48:30play big bong I feel like my needs a little explanation
- 48:40because people associate boober with paranoia but awesome trip.
- 48:47You want to have there are some strains that make you like
- 48:55instantly go into cleaning mode and like you need to do
- 48:58everything all at once. And my thought is going towards
- 49:02that with boober and just getting chores, done, I see.
- 49:05You get all your laundry done. So, Finally, moving to Disney's
- 49:11Muppet studio news, Kermit and Fozzie appeared on Disney's
- 49:15Schoolhouse Rock. 50th Anniversary.
- 49:18Sing along. This was for what, Hulu?
- 49:22Or at least it's on Hulu. Now, I think it was for TV.
- 49:25It's on. It's on Disney plus now, it's on
- 49:27to Z Plus Z Plus? Yeah.
- 49:29Why does tough pigs dot-coms? Why did Johannes a Hulu?
- 49:33Maybe it's on Hulu, and Disney place at the same time.
- 49:37Anyway, what did we think? Gov Kermit and Fozzie on on
- 49:41Schoolhouse Rock. Because I got to tell you, I
- 49:43tried to watch it and I just kind of nodded off I haven't
- 49:48watched it because everyone who watched it when it's okay and
- 49:51like okay nothing's really compelling.
- 49:53Hey, that's the general consensus.
- 49:55So like, and how does it happen? I'd rather spend my muppet
- 50:01energy watching things that are bad or really, really good.
- 50:06I watched it because I'm a fan. I'm a big fan of Schoolhouse
- 50:09Rock and of course the Muppets. Why wouldn't I be here?
- 50:12Disney keeps producing these type of specials, that's just
- 50:16like singing. Long's that they've been
- 50:18producing since 2020, for obvious reasons, it gives me big
- 50:22imagine video on Twitter energy that I hate it does.
- 50:29And I just, we don't need these type of specials anymore.
- 50:34Yeah, I'd rather celebrate Schoolhouse Rock or whatever the
- 50:38special is about, but instead, we're just getting all these
- 50:41random ass celebrities, they keep throwing at us to like sing
- 50:44and dance to these songs. Though I did really like love
- 50:49comets performance. Great, great singer.
- 50:51It's like why are you here? Why is fawzi here?
- 50:54You're not talking or doing anything really you're doing
- 50:57kind of sight gags stuff. It's it's mediocre at best, it's
- 51:02fine, it's fine. That's its it.
- 51:04If I'm doing like an a to F it be a see.
- 51:08Speaking of why is Fozzie here, I want to know why Fozzie is now
- 51:15in Disney Parks hotel rooms. Well, there's a very bad answer.
- 51:21I could give you a comedian, that's what they do.
- 51:27Good, so I should explain what I was referencing here.
- 51:31I'm just going to read a bit of the tough pigs article.
- 51:33Breaking this story, which was written, by Johannes the
- 51:37executive producer of this podcast that you're hearing
- 51:40right now, whether it likes it or not.
- 51:44Hi Joe. Yeah, I just think you're Super
- 51:47cooling, great. And that everything I say on
- 51:50here is so super cool and great. I don't know, since you're super
- 51:53cool and great, you will not want to cut any of it.
- 51:57Yep. That'll work, that'll definitely
- 51:59work. Okay, this article is titled
- 52:02move over Alexa Fozzie Bear is your new digital assistant,
- 52:05wouldn't it be great if you could ask your Alexa or Google
- 52:08or toaster oven to tell you a joke and then out pops, the
- 52:12voice of Fozzie Bear with a classic groaner.
- 52:16Currently the folks at Disney have the same Quarry, because
- 52:19that's pretty much what's happening.
- 52:21The Disney Magical companion is a new and or upcoming service on
- 52:25the Amazon Echo in which you'll be able to say hey Disney and
- 52:29then ask it to set a timer ask about the weather or ask for a
- 52:33recipe for dragonfly Ripple ice cream.
- 52:36You know just like all those other digital assistants the
- 52:39catch is that hey Disney will conjure up a random Disney
- 52:42character to help you with your troubles characters like Dory
- 52:46from Finding Nemo. Mo Olaf from Frozen.
- 52:48Made her from cars, as well as Mickey, Minnie and Groot have
- 52:55all been confirmed, Fozzie Bear an animal from the Muppets will
- 52:59also have their voices captured and stuffed into the device.
- 53:03That's how machines work, right? According to the verge, the
- 53:06device was on display at the CES Expo, which may mean it's likely
- 53:12still in development but clothes for wide release.
- 53:15But also according to the Disney Six website.
- 53:17The Disney Magical companion is already in use at their Resorts,
- 53:21so whether you hope to get a wake-up call from animal or to
- 53:23get directions to your closest Honey dispensary from Fozzie,
- 53:28this could be coming to your home very soon.
- 53:31Thanks to Danny horn for the info.
- 53:33And then, of course, it says, click here to get yelled at
- 53:36through a tiny speaker on the tough pigs Forum.
- 53:39I'm sorry, like I had, I really hate to bring this up because
- 53:45it's not my buddy. But how is Root gonna be helpful
- 53:48in a recipe. Like this group could be helpful
- 53:51in any situation. I am Groot.
- 53:54I forgot we are Groot 1/4 cup of group.
- 53:59I do want to say the next time Sprout and I are at a Disney
- 54:03park, we are going to try to use this specifically to get Mater.
- 54:07Yeah that Go dadgum Muppets Mayhem.
- 54:13Set to Premiere in early May any thoughts, any feelings?
- 54:16What are we excited for? I really hope My Chemical
- 54:20Romance is there. I'm excited for the record.
- 54:22Can we can we talk about real quick?
- 54:24But the Paul McCartney rumor. Yeah.
- 54:28What do we make of that? I'm, I'm intrigued as a deep
- 54:33lover of whatever that old man does.
- 54:36It's called music intriguing that it wasn't leaked earlier
- 54:40than that. Actually, it's because everybody
- 54:43except Beverly Goldberg had an NDA.
- 54:45You know what? I'm always in this weird limbo
- 54:48state right before we get. Well even just whenever Muppet
- 54:51stuff is announced, I'm like either it's going to be great
- 54:54and I'm going to like it or it's going to be terrible but I'm
- 54:58gonna hate it down. There's not, there's not usually
- 55:01a happy medium, sometimes we do get a medium and it's like,
- 55:04okay, that was fine, but Sometimes I'm like, yes, I'm
- 55:10very excited for my but Mayhem, I love the Electric Mayhem.
- 55:13There's some of my favorite parts of the original Muppet
- 55:15Show. I love those characters to
- 55:17death, Zoot my beloved and other times.
- 55:21I'm like, how are they going to carry a show with dreams and
- 55:27hopes, and Rainbow Connection, rainbow connections?
- 55:31We're going to hear that song. I do you want you?
- 55:34I bet Sing it. I feel like maybe the Electric
- 55:39Mayhem instrumental on like a dramatic moment.
- 55:44Yeah. Life hasn't been the same since
- 55:46our manager. Jim died Rainbow Connection
- 55:49answers, will come in and then you zoom in on the log.
- 56:04In the middle of the swamp and it's just animal on the banjo Oh
- 56:15my god. Um, I I want it to be really
- 56:21good and other times I get worried about, like, characters
- 56:23because we do have these characters that have had set,
- 56:26like, personalities, and character traits for a while.
- 56:29And I'm worried they're going to do a 2015 where they're going
- 56:31to, just rip him to shreds and make new characters.
- 56:34Were, they made like Floyd up a conspiracy theories for no.
- 56:38Reason why it was a conspiracy theorist for no damn reason.
- 56:41Zoot I can get with because like he was already really sleepy and
- 56:46zoned out all the time sleepy in quotations.
- 56:49You know what I mean? They made Janice The Village
- 56:53bicycle and it upsets me to this day and I don't want that to
- 56:57happen. Here, I would as a Floyd and
- 57:01Janet shipper. I would like them to still be
- 57:03together, please. Thank you.
- 57:04I just, I just hope that it's not too.
- 57:08Focused on like the humans. Like I know that is a draw in.
- 57:13They I know that they did that with Muppets Haunted Mansion.
- 57:16Like they made it a big part of the promo but like and that'll
- 57:18become more of a part of that than you thought it was.
- 57:21But I really hope that like, they're kind of like a Sprinkle
- 57:25in of like having humans in The Muppets and I really hope it's
- 57:29more Muppets themed. Like, we got like more Muppet
- 57:32Focus than anything of like like like the side characters have
- 57:36their be plots, but they're not. Big enough be plots to where you
- 57:39think. It's in a pot, I have a bad
- 57:41feeling. I also think if they do a humid,
- 57:44be plot, I'm gonna be tuning out because I don't care about the
- 57:47humans. I've never cared about the
- 57:49humans. So yeah, from everything that
- 57:52we've heard about this show so far from the people involved.
- 57:58It seems like the Muppet studio actually has a lot of control
- 58:03over this in a way that they didn't over the ABC show.
- 58:05Yes. So I Spect that if they are
- 58:10doing anything like the 2015 show, in terms of how they
- 58:13handle the characters, it will be very much, much more in
- 58:18conversation with the performers, much more driven by
- 58:21the performers to help. So I really think so.
- 58:26I mean, it seems like everybody who's worked on the show from
- 58:31what little I have heard through.
- 58:33The grapevine is pleased is pleased that this show, Oh, is
- 58:38is some maybe return to form for the Muppets, perhaps, but we
- 58:42don't know. Reso cellmate my type bring up,
- 58:45though. They were saying the same
- 58:47things, when Muppet Haunted Mansion was coming out.
- 58:51Well, but then everybody really liked Muppets Haunted Mansion
- 58:54that was yeah, hugely popular among casual fans.
- 58:58I think Yeah, you can tell, you can tell the love and intent of
- 59:05when people do Muppets projects, when you can tell that they that
- 59:08it's been an impact in their life.
- 59:10And so they want to continue what they know when they love
- 59:13which is which tends to be very close or trying to at least
- 59:17emulate. What Jim did originally with the
- 59:18Muppets, because that's what they've all seen.
- 59:21So I think definitely that gives me a good bit of like hope of
- 59:25like okay, it's not coming out. This is a corporate angle of
- 59:28let's get this show. Let's This, let's push this.
- 59:30It's more of a, this is a labor of love and in continuing what
- 59:35you've seen your whole life and doing it, good and Justice.
- 59:39So I have Good Hope about that. I have good faith in this and I
- 59:43am looking forward to Muppets Pride and Prejudice with
- 59:46freckled stayed. It gives me the same energy of
- 59:49the DuckTales. Reboot like the people behind
- 59:52that were really like huge DuckTales fans, huge like you
- 59:56know Disney Saturday morning fan.
- 59:59So I I hope that this is the same thing of like actually
- 1:00:03wanting to make a muppet thing and loving it.
- 1:00:08Yeah, friends. This has been something and
- 1:00:13you've given us a lot to think about that, it has, but I'm
- 1:00:17afraid, our time is coming to an end Mary.
- 1:00:20Where can people find you on the internet?
- 1:00:22People can find all of us at Muppets underscore talking on
- 1:00:25Twitter and they can find me at Muppet m'lady on Twitter.
- 1:00:30Sprout. We're at this point.
- 1:00:33You're not on Twitter much. So no, but by my account still
- 1:00:37open. I may go back eventually.
- 1:00:39So you could possibly find me at paopu Sprout on Twitter, but
- 1:00:45otherwise, it would be at, is it Muppets underscore talking?
- 1:00:50It is, where can we find you Maria?
- 1:00:53Oh, in your dreams and your nightmares?

- 1:01:18you want to read fanfiction goodbye, be what Twitter account
- 1:01:26do you have that still alive? You can find me on Twitter at

- 1:01:47Thank you. If you enjoyed this program, we
- 1:01:48hope you'll consider supporting us on patreon.
- 1:01:51Thank you to those of you who do so already.
- 1:01:53This tough pigs Muppet, fan podcast was executive produced
- 1:01:55by the tough pigs Muppet fan, podcast executive producer
- 1:01:58Johannes. To Kenny, Durkin for our work
- 1:02:01and thanks to Frank Oz, because it's always a good time to thank
- 1:02:03you, Frank, for tough, pigs.com. This is JD Hansel, reminding you
- 1:02:07of Jim Henson's motto, you'll never get out of the cube,
- 1:02:09goodbye. Okay, so Maria since you've got
- 1:02:22one prepared, why don't you start the convenience store,
- 1:02:25clerk? Yesterday saw my Crusher and
- 1:02:28then he started man's playing to me about how George Carlin
- 1:02:31hosted Sesame Street for Five Seasons, and he wouldn't show
- 1:02:34the back up. And I'm so tired and he looked
- 1:02:37at me like I was crazy and it's not like that, he was crazy.
- 1:02:39I think he just had so much entitlement, and I can't believe
- 1:02:42him, they would say, such a thing to me and also he was
- 1:02:45like, oh, the mothers were so edgy.
- 1:02:47It's like you don't understand a lot.
- 1:02:49I don't know why you're talking to me.
- 1:02:51I write for tough Pig's Eye, I host a muppet podcast, stop
- 1:02:54talking to me. Stop looking at me.
- 1:02:56I just want my friend KitKat and a water bottle.
- 1:03:00I don't want to be here. I think Matt Vogel.
- 1:03:03Is it a really good ol Mo? He sounds nothing like Peter
- 1:03:06lens or Frank Oz, they could found anyone to voice acting
- 1:03:11better. Even, I could do it.
- 1:03:13Hebrews Kitty. Maybe you could uh, Kitty, see
- 1:03:17you at? Let me do it.
- 1:03:18I could be a great voice. Tactics fun like a really heavy
- 1:03:22with Scott. Northern Wisconsin accent for
- 1:03:24mine, please. Yes, please, okay.
- 1:03:29Okay, so I'm a little peeved off right now because I've been
- 1:03:33going to Walmart every other day for the past two weeks trying to
- 1:03:37find the wet and wild Sesame Street collection.
- 1:03:39I can't find it anywhere. I've been going every other day
- 1:03:41for the past two weeks so I decided something about it.
- 1:03:43So I went out of town this past weekend.
- 1:03:45Go see some friends like, you know, someone does.
- 1:03:47And then I decide I'm going to go to war.
- 1:03:49Mark their first thing I see when into the Walmart.
- 1:03:51Well I'm throwing hurt my back left and right.
- 1:03:53I got almost everything they're spending over $200 and I'm like
- 1:03:57damn this is why I should have a peach him.
- 1:04:01Yeah, I wish that were me. Excellent!
- 1:04:04He's gonna have a great time at an egg.
- 1:04:06I already do. Oh, yeah.
- 1:04:07I'm like when he said, do you guys want to do a podcast?
- 1:04:10I'm like, you know what? You're getting yourself into.
- 1:04:14We haven't worked together in a year and it's made us all
- 1:04:17Farrell. That's true.
- 1:04:19GD. Has been in hell this whole
- 1:04:21time. You can never escape the cube.
- 1:04:26It's true. I'll never get out of the cube.
- 1:04:27And this is my Cube now. Yeah, I wish that were me.
- 1:04:03Excellent! He's gonna have a great time at
- 1:04:05an egg. I already do.
- 1:04:07Oh, yeah. I'm like when he said, do you
- 1:04:09guys want to do a podcast? I'm like, you know what?
- 1:04:11You're getting yourself into. We haven't worked together in a
- 1:04:15year and it's made us all Farrell.
- 1:04:18That's true. GD.
- 1:04:20Has been in hell this whole time.
- 1:04:23You can never escape the cube. It's true.
- 1:04:26I'll never get out of the cube. And this is my Cube now.
