- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happen to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good afternoon from the chicken coop because as
- 0:30you know, it's very dark early in the morning and we are
- 0:33currently trying to make sure we get back out with the girls
- 0:36doing this rather than doing it in the dark, dark morning.
- 0:39So today we are talking about technology and actually while I
- 0:44am doing this, I actually have a new piece of equipment that is a
- 0:48little DJI Osmo 3 and it is sitting over on the ground
- 0:52recording the girls and recording me walking back and
- 0:55forth while I'm doing this podcast because I'm trying to
- 0:59learn this darn thing. And let me tell you, it is one
- 1:01of the most wonderful little pieces of equipment yet.
- 1:05It is just, you know, technology is always challenging and, and
- 1:10at least it is for me, not for everybody.
- 1:11But you get a piece of equipment and you want to work with it.
- 1:14You want to be able to use that equipment to the fullest of
- 1:18extent that you can. And you want to just jump into
- 1:21it and do it. And here I am trying to learn
- 1:25it, trying to set it up, trying to work with it.
- 1:27And you think you have it and then you go to use it and boom,
- 1:30something happens. And then you have the best
- 1:32conditions and boom, something happens and you can't make it
- 1:35work. This is the story of what's
- 1:38happening with this little piece of equipment.
- 1:39Now, is it easy to use? Yes.
- 1:41It is not complicated. I can get a video every single
- 1:44time. But part of the challenge is
- 1:46there are the nuances of zooming in and out.
- 1:48There are the nuances of making sure that I'm, you know, being
- 1:52able to keep the gimbal because it follows you if you want it to
- 1:56or just put it straight so that it's not like looking up at the
- 1:59sky or looking down at the dirt or following things around.
- 2:02And I'm getting used to doing all of this because we are
- 2:05getting ready to launch YouTube channel soon and I have to have
- 2:08video of the farm and what we're doing and all the good stuff
- 2:12that it relates to. And filming the girls is
- 2:15obviously a very important thing for me because you know that
- 2:19they're such a big part of my mindset and how I like strive to
- 2:24have that peace and tranquility by being out in the chicken coop
- 2:27and hanging around with them when they're back here.
- 2:30And right now it's late afternoon, so they're coming
- 2:33back. It's actually almost 5:00 here
- 2:36and they're coming back now. Half of them are in the garden,
- 2:39half of them are under the big tree by the pond, and a few of
- 2:44them are in the run area. So I got the little camera set
- 2:49up and I'm attempting to film with it.
- 2:51And I was thinking about how this is so one of those things
- 2:55for me that's so challenging because I love learning new
- 2:59stuff. But when it comes to technology,
- 3:01there are times when I resist it because I think, oh, that's so
- 3:04frustrating. It's so annoying.
- 3:06Why can't it just work? Why doesn't it just work the
- 3:08right way? I thought I had it set up and
- 3:10then I get frustrated. And then I just want to
- 3:11sometimes Chuck it out the window because it's frustrating
- 3:16and I should be able to grasp it, right?
- 3:17I'm an intelligent person. I should be able to grasp it.
- 3:20Well, here's the thing, until you do something for a certain
- 3:22number of hours, you're never going to be great at it.
- 3:25You just have to accept that fact.
- 3:26And me reminding myself of that is necessary.
- 3:31And it's not just with this technology, it's other things
- 3:34that you're doing too. It's like you have to remind
- 3:36yourself of the fact that it's not going to be perfect right
- 3:39out of the gate. It's not going to be something
- 3:41that is easy right out of the gate.
- 3:44I have to figure out how it works, what it does, what it's
- 3:47doing, and all of those good little tidbits to make it so
- 3:51that it will come out the right way.
- 3:52But it all takes time. So there are going to be a
- 3:55number of videos that I shoot that I throw out.
- 3:59Tragic, right? Well, it's funny because I'm
- 4:03very used to doing this with photography, photographing
- 4:06things. I I put pictures up for
- 4:08everybody to see and people will go crazy and say, Oh my gosh,
- 4:12these pictures are so gorgeous. And they're, they're like print
- 4:15quality and all of this stuff. And yeah, but I've been doing it
- 4:19for years. That skill was put into my hands
- 4:23very early on. My very first camera was given
- 4:26to me when I was 8. And I used to have to have print
- 4:29pictures and wait for them to come back and, and half of them
- 4:33were terrible and the other half just sucked.
- 4:36And I had to get used to it. And I used to shoot over and
- 4:39over and over and over before I even got remotely good.
- 4:42And today, as I was doing this and setting this up, I reminded
- 4:45myself of that, about how how long did it take you before you
- 4:48were decent with a camera? And as I get ready to get a new
- 4:52camera, I sit there and say to myself, boy, I'm going to have
- 4:56to learn a new technology because I'm switching platforms.
- 4:59I'm changing over from a Canon camera to a Nikon camera.
- 5:04And you know, somebody who I trust and an advisor in the
- 5:08visual world had said to me really need to switch over to a
- 5:11Nikon. So I'm working on that.
- 5:14And the interesting part of it is I'm going to have to learn a
- 5:16new technology. And that's why I didn't pull the
- 5:19trigger because I'm used to the cannons.
- 5:21I'm used to what I know. But in when someone insists that
- 5:24something else is great, well, you know, that's one of the
- 5:27things you have to do. You just you take it on and you
- 5:30know that that's what you're going to do.
- 5:31You're going to learn something new.
- 5:33So that's what I'm doing with the gimbal as I sit here and
- 5:36look at it as it shut itself off right now.
- 5:38And I'm like, why did it shut itself off?
- 5:40So here we are back to learning. All right, my friends, I hope
- 5:44you have a very learning day too.
- 5:46And you know, in the quest of I had put the challenge out there,
- 5:49learn something new every month. This is mine.
- 5:52Learn the gimbal this month. Learn the gimbal.
- 5:55All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 5:58will see you all tomorrow. Bye.
