- 0:00Speaker 1: Like it does kind of sound like it'd be a
- 0:02Speaker 1: great thing to put on while I'm doing laundry.
- 0:04Speaker 2: And it won't keep you awake. You can go to
- 0:07Speaker 2: Sleeping Special.
- 0:08Speaker 3: Spam your benefit of the movie. I'm putting it on
- 0:13Speaker 3: my list.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Such a bad choice.
- 0:17Speaker 3: And hello, and welcome to Major Review. Be with you
- 0:21Speaker 3: with Nick Show.
- 0:22Speaker 1: I'm Joe, I'm Nick, and today is episode three of
- 0:27Speaker 1: a game we like to play.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Put it on your list.
- 0:30Speaker 1: It's a game in which I think many of us
- 0:32Speaker 1: are familiar with, in which you're talking to someone at
- 0:34Speaker 1: a bar and this person insists that you have to
- 0:37Speaker 1: watch this show and or movie and they're trying to
- 0:40Speaker 1: convince you why. Sometimes it's hell, Sometimes it's a gem.
- 0:45Speaker 1: We will be experiencing one of those two things today.
- 0:47Speaker 1: I'm not sure which one, but hell, see how it goes. Nick,
- 0:53Speaker 1: I would feeling today.
- 0:54Speaker 2: I'm feeling great.
- 0:55Speaker 4: I'm definitely pitching you one that you're gonna feel like
- 0:57Speaker 4: you're in hell for sure. This is no doubt we'll
- 1:01Speaker 4: get there. But you're you're gonna be uh, You're gonna
- 1:03Speaker 4: be wishing.
- 1:04Speaker 2: That I would walk away. Oh but I cannot. I
- 1:07Speaker 2: cannot walk away.
- 1:08Speaker 1: I'm actually I think I'm more excited for that than
- 1:11Speaker 1: the last two times, because, like the last two times,
- 1:14Speaker 1: you've actually pitched me things that I like. Automatically, I
- 1:16Speaker 1: was like, well, yeah, yeah, of course I would add
- 1:18Speaker 1: that to my like it took barely any convincing.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I want to see you struggle today.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Well, I don't know if it's gonna be a struggle,
- 1:24Speaker 2: but it's definitely hell. So we'll see how it goes.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Cool. Cool.
- 1:30Speaker 1: In case you missed our last episode, Nick and I
- 1:33Speaker 1: pitched to each other. I pitched an animated show, which
- 1:36Speaker 1: that was hell for Nick, over the Garden Wall, the
- 1:39Speaker 1: perfect season show for the hallowing time, and Kate and Leopold,
- 1:44Speaker 1: a romantic time travel comedy. That was a Nick pitch
- 1:48Speaker 1: to me, which again very easy pitch. So we'll see
- 1:52Speaker 1: how it goes today.
- 1:54Speaker 3: So we will get into that game.
- 1:56Speaker 1: We'll explain the rules of that game in a little bit,
- 1:58Speaker 1: but first we have some entertainment news to catch up on.
- 2:03Speaker 1: So Nick, it's almost like we plan this. We've been
- 2:06Speaker 1: playing put it on your list now for I think,
- 2:10Speaker 1: let's see, this is our third episode and we've been
- 2:12Speaker 1: doing it every two weeks, so it is our sixth
- 2:14Speaker 1: week right, third episode, six week. And every time we
- 2:17Speaker 1: play this game, there is news on James Gunn's Green
- 2:22Speaker 1: Lantern Show. Yes, it's weird how it keeps timing this way,
- 2:27Speaker 1: not doing it on purpose. So last time we were
- 2:31Speaker 1: talking about lanterns, the news was that Kyle Chandler, the
- 2:35Speaker 1: guy from Friday Night Lights, will be playing the role
- 2:37Speaker 1: of Hal Jordan, one of the most well known Green lanterns.
- 2:40Speaker 1: And at the time we found out that there was
- 2:43Speaker 1: also a casting call going on for John Stewart, another
- 2:48Speaker 1: very well known Green Lantern, and we knew it was
- 2:55Speaker 1: down to two actors. Today we know who was going
- 2:59Speaker 1: to play John Stewart. It's gonna be Aaron Pierre, who
- 3:03Speaker 1: has been famous from Old He's been famous more recently
- 3:06Speaker 1: from Rebel Ridge.
- 3:08Speaker 3: More on that later. And I am actually extremely excited
- 3:13Speaker 3: about this.
- 3:15Speaker 1: John Stewart is very like, it's very like by the
- 3:18Speaker 1: book like kind of cop character, and Aaron Pierre feels
- 3:23Speaker 1: like he would capture that really perfectly.
- 3:26Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 3:26Speaker 1: The more I hear about this show, the more I'm
- 3:28Speaker 1: into it. Nick, I feel like you don't care about
- 3:31Speaker 1: this show whatsoever.
- 3:33Speaker 4: I don't ah, listen, I love James Gunn, and we're
- 3:38Speaker 4: just gonna have to see.
- 3:39Speaker 2: I'm definitely going to watch it. I'm very I'm intrigued.
- 3:43Speaker 4: I have zero expectations, so hopefully it'll be decent, and honestly,
- 3:48Speaker 4: I'm sure it's gonna be It's gonna be good because
- 3:50Speaker 4: James Gunn like seems to have a really good plan,
- 3:53Speaker 4: but until we see what he's really got.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Going, we can't know for sure.
- 3:57Speaker 4: And it really comes down too if they're gonna really
- 4:02Speaker 4: let him kind of take the reins and do it
- 4:03Speaker 4: he thinks should be done right. If there's control issues
- 4:07Speaker 4: and disagreements and James Gunn doesn't have final control, there's
- 4:11Speaker 4: just gonna be continued problems in the DC universe that
- 4:13Speaker 4: we've always had. So I'll default to my glorious MCU,
- 4:19Speaker 4: who doesn't always make the best choices, but overall pretty solid,
- 4:26Speaker 4: glorious purpose, glorious purpose.
- 4:30Speaker 1: I appreciate the fact that you are approaching it cautiously.
- 4:34Speaker 1: I'm probably hyping myself up way too much for it,
- 4:37Speaker 1: and I will let myself down just like I did
- 4:39Speaker 1: with the Flash. Well, we will see how that goes.
- 4:42Speaker 1: I will say, just the idea of a true detective
- 4:46Speaker 1: esque show surrounding green lanterns being written by one of
- 4:50Speaker 1: the Lost writers. This seems to have like a lot
- 4:53Speaker 1: of stuff that I just vibe with, so hopefully they
- 4:56Speaker 1: don't screw.
- 4:57Speaker 3: It up well with some kind of suicide.
- 5:00Speaker 1: There is a movie that sounded great on paper that
- 5:03Speaker 1: apparently did get fumbled and screwed up. We'll get to
- 5:06Speaker 1: that in more entertainment news. But first, if you like
- 5:09Speaker 1: what you're listening to, please hit subscribe.
- 5:12Speaker 3: Hit that bell.
- 5:13Speaker 1: He give us a thumbs up. It helps us so much,
- 5:15Speaker 1: and we want to stay in your YouTube feed, So
- 5:18Speaker 1: hit that subscribe. But onto more movie news. So a
- 5:21Speaker 1: lot of different movies going on in the box office
- 5:23Speaker 1: right now that people are super into.
- 5:25Speaker 3: We're just gonna hit these really quick.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Terrifier three not a series I am familiar with, but
- 5:32Speaker 1: all of a sudden, in my movie feed, everyone's talking
- 5:35Speaker 1: about like this horror clown. I truly don't know a
- 5:40Speaker 1: lot about Terrifier three, but the audience score on this
- 5:44Speaker 1: is like ninety percent and people love this. I swear
- 5:48Speaker 1: to god, I have never I think I've heard someone
- 5:51Speaker 1: tell me about Terrifier maybe like one time, and it
- 5:54Speaker 1: was like a cult classic, just you know, a clown
- 5:57Speaker 1: psycho killer movie. And now Terrifier three is just like
- 6:02Speaker 1: popping off to the extent where I think, I, I'm
- 6:08Speaker 1: probably gonna watch it now I'm adding it to my list.
- 6:12Speaker 1: But I'm an easy I'm an easy horror guy. Like
- 6:14Speaker 1: I love horror. It's it's my jam nick. I feel
- 6:18Speaker 1: like that's is that true for you or now?
- 6:20Speaker 2: No, it's for me.
- 6:21Speaker 4: Never heard of Terrifier at all? Well not watch it?
- 6:24Speaker 4: Definitely not on any list of mine. I'll default to
- 6:27Speaker 4: you for that one. You can do that review by yourself, sir,
- 6:31Speaker 4: you know what I might where you can just like
- 6:34Speaker 4: us find us on threads. Joe will be talking about it.
- 6:36Speaker 1: There not a bad idea, although reviewing a horror movie
- 6:41Speaker 1: by yourself sounds about as appealing as watching a horror
- 6:44Speaker 1: movie by yourself.
- 6:46Speaker 3: So we'll see.
- 6:47Speaker 1: If I can convince anyone to go with me and
- 6:49Speaker 1: or anyone to review that with me.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Guest appearance for review.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Interesting, We'll see we can give that a shot, give
- 6:56Speaker 1: that a hail. Mary the Apprentice is also in as
- 7:00Speaker 1: you can imagine, that's drawing in a lot of different
- 7:04Speaker 1: criticism and opinion. I saw that the audience score for
- 7:07Speaker 1: that was actually surprisingly high.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Interested in what's going on there?
- 7:12Speaker 1: And the last movie that I'm interested in Nick Woman
- 7:16Speaker 1: of the Hour, the nineteen seventies Loss. In the nineteen
- 7:20Speaker 1: seventies Los Angeles, a wave of murderous headlines is going about,
- 7:25Speaker 1: and a young woman aspiring to become an actress and
- 7:27Speaker 1: a serial killer cross paths during an episode of a
- 7:31Speaker 1: dating show stars Anna Kendrick. I'm super interested in the
- 7:35Speaker 1: premise of this movie. It's getting some glowing reviews. It
- 7:39Speaker 1: seems like a really fun like not a Halloween esque,
- 7:42Speaker 1: but like if you want something like maybe like a
- 7:44Speaker 1: little creepier like on right, it sounds like this could
- 7:47Speaker 1: be a good time.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Like a solid thriller. It seems like very interesting.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Plus this podcast loves Anna Kendrick, giving that a thumbs up.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Agreed.
- 8:00Speaker 1: I'm glad I didn't have to hijack the podcast to
- 8:02Speaker 1: incertain opinion there.
- 8:03Speaker 2: I'm glad no United Front on NAMA. Kendrick bitches, Oh,
- 8:09Speaker 2: that is happening.
- 8:10Speaker 1: The last bit of movie news here, and I think
- 8:12Speaker 1: we could spend a little bit more time despite the
- 8:14Speaker 1: fact that I don't think either of us have seen
- 8:16Speaker 1: this movie. Is a Joker too. Now, I just went
- 8:21Speaker 1: over three different films that are getting some pretty glowing reviews.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Joker two does not make that list and talk about
- 8:29Speaker 1: a concept that is just fumbled in the end. So
- 8:35Speaker 1: it's Todd Phillips once again directing the helm of this movie,
- 8:38Speaker 1: and we we're back in this universe in which Arthur
- 8:43Speaker 1: Fleck has accidentally stirred a movement in Gotham of a
- 8:47Speaker 1: class uprising. And it's got Lady Gaga in it, and
- 8:52Speaker 1: it's supposed to be musical, and that sounded super fun
- 8:55Speaker 1: to me, just the idea of like a superhero musical.
- 8:58Speaker 3: It was like, Yo, what that's.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Weird, that's so weird. That could be great, and it wasn't.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Apparently Apparently it's awful. And it's my My worst criticism
- 9:10Speaker 1: for a movie is what I keep hearing about it.
- 9:13Speaker 3: It's boring.
- 9:14Speaker 1: I don't know how you have a movie about the
- 9:16Speaker 1: Joker with Lady Gaga's Harley Quinn and a musical and
- 9:23Speaker 1: somehow you describe it as boring.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Well, I like musicals.
- 9:31Speaker 4: Typically, but I'm kind of not shocked you're gonna make
- 9:37Speaker 4: a movie about the Joker a musical that that sounds
- 9:40Speaker 4: like just a train wreck waiting to happen.
- 9:42Speaker 3: It's not completely the opposite way with this concept.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't even realize it was a musical until
- 9:48Speaker 2: like an advertise like yeah, so like when it came out,
- 9:51Speaker 2: it's like it's a musical.
- 9:52Speaker 4: I'm like, oh my god, I'm gonna have to wait
- 9:53Speaker 4: till this like is not in theaters because it does
- 9:55Speaker 4: not sound like something I'm gonna want to waste my
- 9:57Speaker 4: time on. Certainly so far, that's the case tragedy really,
- 10:01Speaker 4: because the first one was so damn good that they've
- 10:04Speaker 4: just gone ahead and been like, oh, yeah, we the
- 10:06Speaker 4: first one was so good, we got awards, Let's do
- 10:09Speaker 4: a musical next.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Why why?
- 10:15Speaker 1: I mean, like, on paper, like, I think it's cool
- 10:17Speaker 1: that they went in a daring direction, but yeah, apparently,
- 10:20Speaker 1: like the movie's just a nothing burger. The whole movie
- 10:23Speaker 1: takes place and from what I understand, in two different settings,
- 10:26Speaker 1: which honestly like that on paper doesn't necessarily sound bad,
- 10:30Speaker 1: but apparently they just don't do anything with it. They
- 10:31Speaker 1: don't do anything with Arthur's character, and they I guess
- 10:35Speaker 1: they kind of have him fall back to like almost
- 10:37Speaker 1: the beginning of the first Joker movie before he really
- 10:40Speaker 1: starts embracing like the Joker persona, and they just kind
- 10:44Speaker 1: of have him like fumble through like this crime wave
- 10:47Speaker 1: that he's inspired.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Which DC is gonna DC. DC's just going to DC
- 10:53Speaker 2: Man Suicide Squad.
- 10:55Speaker 3: On to the game at hand.
- 10:57Speaker 1: The reason why we're here today, Nick and I are
- 11:01Speaker 1: going to try to put it on our lists.
- 11:04Speaker 3: So name of the game.
- 11:06Speaker 1: We're going to take turns here going back and forth
- 11:09Speaker 1: in which we will state whatever it is that we
- 11:12Speaker 1: are trying to pitch, and we'll do a brief summary
- 11:14Speaker 1: about what it is and like why the other person
- 11:17Speaker 1: should watch it. The other person will ask three questions
- 11:20Speaker 1: and at the end of those three questions will determine
- 11:23Speaker 1: whether or not the pitcher has successfully pitched the movie
- 11:28Speaker 1: or show to the other person and they will be
- 11:30Speaker 1: adding it to their list. We've had some pretty successful
- 11:33Speaker 1: pitches going back and forth in the last two episodes.
- 11:36Speaker 3: We'll see if we can maintain that streak today.
- 11:39Speaker 1: And from what I understand as far as the rules
- 11:42Speaker 1: of engagement go, the way we determine who goes first
- 11:46Speaker 1: is you just assert that you're going first. So I'm
- 11:49Speaker 1: gonna go first, no.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Questions, asked, all right, Nick, so today I will be
- 11:54Speaker 3: pitching you.
- 11:57Speaker 1: I don't know if you've heard of it before, but
- 11:59Speaker 1: Rebel Ridge. So, as I mentioned before, Aaron Pierre was
- 12:05Speaker 1: up for the John Stewart character in Lanterns, and we
- 12:09Speaker 1: were talking about that in our last episode and I
- 12:13Speaker 1: heard that, you know, he was getting a lot of
- 12:14Speaker 1: buzz from this movie. So I was like, you know what,
- 12:16Speaker 1: Like I'm interested in Lanterns. This kid is, you know,
- 12:19Speaker 1: got a got a career ahead of him. I kind
- 12:21Speaker 1: of want to check it out. So I put it
- 12:23Speaker 1: on one day. It was about one am in the morning.
- 12:26Speaker 1: I don't know why I did that. I think it
- 12:27Speaker 1: was folding laundry and I was like, I'll tune in
- 12:29Speaker 1: for like half an hour or something. I watched the
- 12:31Speaker 1: whole movie that night. It was a week day, by
- 12:34Speaker 1: the way, it wasn't weekend. I had stuff to do
- 12:36Speaker 1: the next day and I don't even care. This movie, Nick,
- 12:40Speaker 1: is so engaging, from like the first ten seconds all
- 12:45Speaker 1: the way to the end, where like I couldn't stop watching.
- 12:48Speaker 1: I needed to know how what was going to happen
- 12:51Speaker 1: and how it was gonna happen. It was it was
- 12:54Speaker 1: legitimately one of those movies where it was like, I
- 12:55Speaker 1: have I have no idea what's going to happen next.
- 12:58Speaker 3: So it's an action movie.
- 13:01Speaker 1: And it's one of the smartest action movies I've ever
- 13:04Speaker 1: had the pleasure of seeing.
- 13:05Speaker 3: It's a great time.
- 13:07Speaker 1: It is about a man who is writing into a
- 13:11Speaker 1: Louisiana town on his bike and he's going to post
- 13:14Speaker 1: bail for his cousin who was arrested for a crime,
- 13:19Speaker 1: and he runs into some cops and he experiences civil
- 13:25Speaker 1: forfeiture in which the cops, under a reason of suspect,
- 13:30Speaker 1: are able to take his money legally, and then the.
- 13:33Speaker 3: Movie unfolds from there.
- 13:36Speaker 1: I honestly don't want to say too much after that,
- 13:40Speaker 1: because it's not like there's a bunch of like twists
- 13:42Speaker 1: here and there, but it just you just don't know
- 13:47Speaker 1: where it's going, especially because like the movie plays so
- 13:50Speaker 1: well into the very real rules of how law enforcement works,
- 13:56Speaker 1: and how law enforcement can potentially and unfortunate lee probably
- 14:01Speaker 1: in some very small towns use the law to their
- 14:04Speaker 1: advantage against anybody else right in very legal and hateful ways,
- 14:11Speaker 1: And we just get to watch a guy kick ass
- 14:15Speaker 1: in very believable ways. It's not like a crazy action
- 14:20Speaker 1: movie where he's just doing all these insane stunts. Like
- 14:23Speaker 1: everything he does is extremely believable. It's one of the
- 14:25Speaker 1: more realistic action movies I've ever seen.
- 14:29Speaker 3: It's awesome. That's my movie, Rebel Ridge.
- 14:33Speaker 4: I really wanted to just immediately hate whatever you're about
- 14:36Speaker 4: to pitch me, but you did a good job, and
- 14:38Speaker 4: I'm very intrigued. So I'm wondering, how long is this
- 14:43Speaker 4: film and where can I watch it?
- 14:47Speaker 3: Okay, thank you for asking that part.
- 14:49Speaker 1: The second part I always forget to mention where you
- 14:52Speaker 1: can watch these things Netflix. It is a Netflix movie
- 14:57Speaker 1: as far as how long it is, So this is prising.
- 15:01Speaker 1: It's two hours, right, and honestly, watching it in the
- 15:04Speaker 1: first forty minutes, the initial problem kind of gets resolved, right,
- 15:10Speaker 1: and you're like, where.
- 15:11Speaker 3: Can this possibly go from this point?
- 15:13Speaker 1: And it goes to insane places, but again all like
- 15:18Speaker 1: within the realms of reality. Like it like you're watching
- 15:21Speaker 1: this and you're like, I can see how you get
- 15:24Speaker 1: to this point. It's just crazy how we keep finding
- 15:26Speaker 1: a way to push this premise further and further.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 15:33Speaker 4: All right, I'm trying to think of something else to
- 15:38Speaker 4: ask you based on your quick summary there aside from Pierre,
- 15:46Speaker 4: is there another standout performance or actor that really gets
- 15:51Speaker 4: you excited about this?
- 15:53Speaker 3: Yeah? There is. I have to look up his name.
- 15:56Speaker 3: He's a well known actor. He's probably the most well
- 15:59Speaker 3: known actor in this movie. He's an older guy. What
- 16:03Speaker 3: is this guy's name? Don Johnson? Don Johnson?
- 16:07Speaker 1: Oh, no, okay, yes, one of those guys who's been
- 16:10Speaker 1: in a lot of everything. Right More recently, I've discovered
- 16:13Speaker 1: him on the very trashy but sexy television show Doctor Odyssey.
- 16:20Speaker 1: That is a guilty pleasure that has nothing to do
- 16:22Speaker 1: with this right now, but damn is it fun to
- 16:23Speaker 1: watch out? Don Johnson plays a the police chief and
- 16:30Speaker 1: ultimately like the villain of of this and he's great.
- 16:36Speaker 1: He's a great, very believable villain. And he represents a
- 16:41Speaker 1: lot of like Southern like racist undertones, and like the
- 16:45Speaker 1: racism is there, right, but I wouldn't say it ever
- 16:48Speaker 1: like beats you over the head with it. He's not
- 16:50Speaker 1: like like looney tunish racist, right, Like he's not like
- 16:55Speaker 1: dropping end bombs, like he's like racist in like, oh
- 16:58Speaker 1: damn it, Like you've met this guy before, you know,
- 17:01Speaker 1: Like he's raisi ut in an unfortunate, very real way.
- 17:04Speaker 3: You know, got it.
- 17:09Speaker 2: All right.
- 17:10Speaker 4: It's a hell of a pitch, Joe, It's a hell
- 17:13Speaker 4: of a pitch. I don't have another question. I kind
- 17:15Speaker 4: of asked you too at the beginning back to back.
- 17:18Speaker 3: So the streaming service.
- 17:22Speaker 1: I feel like that needs to actually just be stated
- 17:25Speaker 1: without a without a question provided.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Yeah. Sure, But did you enjoy the ending of the film.
- 17:36Speaker 3: That's a great question.
- 17:38Speaker 1: I love the ending of the film. It is it's
- 17:41Speaker 1: such a it's such a strange choice, Like it works, right,
- 17:45Speaker 1: the ending works really really well. However, it's so abrupt,
- 17:50Speaker 1: like the movie just decides this is it. It's done,
- 17:53Speaker 1: Like we just stop, like yeah, like the climax, the
- 17:57Speaker 1: climax happens, and like as soon as the clime max
- 18:00Speaker 1: is over, the movie is like and that's it. And
- 18:04Speaker 1: like you think about it for a second, you're like, wow,
- 18:06Speaker 1: that was a weird place to end it. But then
- 18:07Speaker 1: you really think about and you're like, no, anything else
- 18:10Speaker 1: would just be kind of like would just be overstating.
- 18:13Speaker 3: It's welcome.
- 18:14Speaker 1: At this point you kind of know exactly what's gonna
- 18:17Speaker 1: happen after this, and like that's the beauty of the movie.
- 18:19Speaker 1: You don't know what's gonna happen right throughout the entire film,
- 18:24Speaker 1: and then finally you get to the ending and you
- 18:26Speaker 1: know exactly what's going to happen next, and that's when
- 18:28Speaker 1: the movie decides it's going to end. It doesn't overstate
- 18:31Speaker 1: it's welcome. It's like, as soon as you can't guess anymore,
- 18:34Speaker 1: it's like, yep, movie's done. I actually really appreciate that
- 18:37Speaker 1: about an action film, just like we're done, no more action.
- 18:40Speaker 4: All right, all right, Joe, I think I think you
- 18:45Speaker 4: did it. I think I'm gonna add it to my list.
- 18:49Speaker 2: This is too long. I'm gonna have to start saying
- 18:50Speaker 2: no eventually to you, because.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Hey, but it's the first non animated show I've given it.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Is I can't possibly say no.
- 18:58Speaker 4: It's the first non animated show there you me so
- 19:00Speaker 4: that also is playing in your favorite it's not animated.
- 19:03Speaker 4: Thank god putting it on my list, Well well done, sir.
- 19:09Speaker 1: I will save one more thing, Nick, if there is
- 19:13Speaker 1: another reason that anyone should be watching this movie. If
- 19:16Speaker 1: you're not familiar with Aaron Pierre, a fantastic actor. I
- 19:21Speaker 1: am so excited to see this man's career blow up and.
- 19:25Speaker 3: Also, wow, what a smoke show.
- 19:30Speaker 1: My goodness, just putting that out there. That man is beautiful.
- 19:36Speaker 1: You can be on your television for about two hours.
- 19:39Speaker 1: Just put on Rebel Ridge. My goodness, my goodness, I
- 19:43Speaker 1: had to question some things.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Oh my god. Okay, well we're gonna move on.
- 19:53Speaker 1: It.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Insist. Joe's all hot and bothered over here. So ridiculous.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Those you're ridiculous.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Okay.
- 20:01Speaker 2: Anyway, they'll tell your future wife that you.
- 20:04Speaker 3: Have I did, I did, I did. I was like, Yo,
- 20:07Speaker 3: you gotta look at this guy. He's so beautiful.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Oh my goodness, gracious, all.
- 20:11Speaker 4: Right, something else to look forward to. Some would say,
- 20:16Speaker 4: all right, Joe, it's my.
- 20:19Speaker 2: Turn to pitch a movie right to your list. I'm
- 20:26Speaker 2: gonna ask you a couple quick fire questions.
- 20:28Speaker 3: Interesting, we're going with you.
- 20:30Speaker 2: Would you watch a movie with Mark Wahlberg in it?
- 20:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I'd watch a movie.
- 20:34Speaker 2: Would you watch a movie with Halle Berry in it?
- 20:38Speaker 2: Would you watch a film with JK. Simmons in it?
- 20:41Speaker 3: I love JK. Simmons. Just started with him. Yes, of
- 20:43Speaker 3: course I would.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Well, then, Joe, you're gonna absolutely love this.
- 20:47Speaker 4: Twenty twenty four Netflix action comedy romantic film called The Union.
- 20:53Speaker 2: You're gonna love it and I love it.
- 20:55Speaker 3: Act back on action films.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Oh yeah, we are. We're going back to back Netflix
- 21:00Speaker 2: Action films.
- 21:03Speaker 3: There was a theme to this podcast. I didn't even
- 21:05Speaker 3: know it. Okay, let's go.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Here's a quick breakdown.
- 21:08Speaker 3: Okay.
- 21:09Speaker 4: Mark Wahlberg plays a actor, plays a guy named Mike
- 21:12Speaker 4: who is a down to earth construction worker who is
- 21:15Speaker 4: thrust into a world of superspies in secret agents when
- 21:18Speaker 4: his high school sweetheart, Roxanne played by Helen Barry, recruits
- 21:22Speaker 4: him on a high stakes US intelligence mission. This is
- 21:25Speaker 4: basically like you having a high school sweetheart who you
- 21:28Speaker 4: have not talked to in twenty years.
- 21:30Speaker 2: You're just a regular dude, just like we're just regular dudes,
- 21:34Speaker 2: and all of a sudden, she just comes back into
- 21:36Speaker 2: your life. But oh wait, she's a secret spy. And
- 21:38Speaker 2: then she kidnaps you against your will and takes you
- 21:40Speaker 2: all the way to London. This is that movie. This
- 21:41Speaker 2: is what happens basically, and now.
- 21:43Speaker 4: That movie you have to You just become a secret
- 21:46Speaker 4: spy overnight and it's hilarious and fun and it's an
- 21:52Speaker 4: hour and forty five minutes. Basically, no time commitment. Now
- 21:57Speaker 4: let me be very clear.
- 22:00Speaker 2: This is not a award winning film.
- 22:06Speaker 4: This is this is not the movie that you put
- 22:08Speaker 4: on if you want to be wowed by the cinematography,
- 22:11Speaker 4: or wowed by even the acting, or wowed by the plot.
- 22:15Speaker 4: This is the movie you put on when you want
- 22:17Speaker 4: to watch something that's under two hours, that's a little
- 22:20Speaker 4: bit fun that you know, what, if you if you
- 22:23Speaker 4: pick up your phone for five minutes, it's not gonna
- 22:26Speaker 4: make or break what's going on in the movie.
- 22:30Speaker 2: You're not gonna lose track.
- 22:32Speaker 4: Okay, this is not a Christopher Nolan film, clearly.
- 22:37Speaker 3: Losing losing me.
- 22:39Speaker 2: No, No, I'm not losing you. Because everyone needs this
- 22:41Speaker 2: film on their list.
- 22:42Speaker 4: This is the kind of film you need on your
- 22:43Speaker 4: list because you don't always want to sit down. Then
- 22:46Speaker 4: you don't always want to sit down and watch a
- 22:47Speaker 4: two or three hour epic. You don't always want to
- 22:50Speaker 4: do that, and you don't, and you don't want to
- 22:52Speaker 4: put a TV show on it necessarily, because that's more
- 22:54Speaker 4: of a commitment of like a long standing.
- 22:58Speaker 2: You know TV show, you're gonna go through a series.
- 23:00Speaker 4: This is just hour and forty five minutes of fun.
- 23:03Speaker 4: It's got halle Berry and Mark Wahlberg and JK. Simmons
- 23:06Speaker 4: and some others and.
- 23:07Speaker 2: It's just it's just enjoyable. It's some enjoyable film. That's
- 23:12Speaker 2: that's what I have to say.
- 23:13Speaker 3: Okay, what are your questions?
- 23:15Speaker 2: Hit me with them.
- 23:16Speaker 1: So first off, let me just say I kind of
- 23:20Speaker 1: love when someone can give me something like a little
- 23:23Speaker 1: bit mindless sometimes exact exactly what because like, dude, we
- 23:27Speaker 1: all love Suefla all right, Like I.
- 23:29Speaker 3: Like it's it's there.
- 23:30Speaker 1: You can appreciate a Sue Fla, right, But I don't
- 23:33Speaker 1: always want souflay. I want chips a lot most of
- 23:36Speaker 1: the time. Actually, I want to eat chips always. So
- 23:38Speaker 1: like if you offer me a bag of chips I've
- 23:40Speaker 1: never had before, like I'm probably gonna stick my hand
- 23:42Speaker 1: into it and take a bite.
- 23:44Speaker 3: So here we go.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Here's the hand going in. Okay, you mentioned JK. Simmons before,
- 23:50Speaker 1: and of those three, he's my favorite. So tell me
- 23:53Speaker 1: about his character.
- 23:55Speaker 2: H JK.
- 23:56Speaker 4: Simmons plays the essentially the head of the intelligence secret
- 24:01Speaker 4: intelligence agency.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Yeah, that's like his main role and it and it's
- 24:10Speaker 2: it's like a it's a JK.
- 24:11Speaker 4: Simmons part, Like it's JK Simmons, You know what I mean, Like,
- 24:13Speaker 4: he's got a very dude, he's got a very specific
- 24:17Speaker 4: not specific necessarily because he has played some like different
- 24:20Speaker 4: roles there in the past, but this is one of
- 24:22Speaker 4: those films where JK.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Simmons is on display. That's what I'll say.
- 24:29Speaker 1: Kind of sounds like like if I'm thinking like of
- 24:32Speaker 1: his time in like Law and Order or like on
- 24:34Speaker 1: The Closer, like he plays like I think he's a
- 24:36Speaker 1: police chief on the Closer. It kind of sounds like that. Okay,
- 24:41Speaker 1: So I'll be honest, that makes sense for JK.
- 24:44Speaker 3: Simmons.
- 24:44Speaker 1: I was kind of hoping you were gonna tell me
- 24:46Speaker 1: he was the villain. So second question, Uh, who's the antagonist?
- 24:50Speaker 1: And like what's what's their deal?
- 24:52Speaker 4: So there's a couple of different antagonists. The main antagonist
- 24:57Speaker 4: is played by played by Mike Mike Colter.
- 25:00Speaker 2: He's in Jessica Jones.
- 25:04Speaker 3: I Love Jessica Jones.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Luke Cage he plays Luke Cage. Oh right here, he
- 25:08Speaker 2: plays Luke Cage.
- 25:09Speaker 4: So he's like the main antagonist. But you don't necessarily
- 25:16Speaker 4: see I'm going to slightly ruin the film, but you don't.
- 25:20Speaker 4: He plays an antagonist at one part of the film,
- 25:22Speaker 4: but most of the time we're not entirely sure who
- 25:26Speaker 4: the antagonist is as well, because essentially the secret agency
- 25:31Speaker 4: that Mark Wahlber's character gets recruited for, their whole network
- 25:37Speaker 4: of spies has been like stolen, like their database of
- 25:40Speaker 4: who all their spies are across the world has been stolen,
- 25:42Speaker 4: and they have to figure out how to get it back,
- 25:44Speaker 4: so they try to buy it back from the party
- 25:46Speaker 4: that stole it, which we're not entirely sure of most
- 25:48Speaker 4: of the film, So you're essentially just like but then
- 25:51Speaker 4: there's other agencies who are trying to also get this information.
- 25:54Speaker 4: So it's kind of a and this is one of
- 25:58Speaker 4: the reasons, but it's not a you know, Oscar winning film.
- 26:02Speaker 2: Because the answer to your question is not straightforward. But yes,
- 26:07Speaker 2: what Mike Culter is is one of the antagonists.
- 26:11Speaker 1: Okay, I actually h my third question here. This is
- 26:15Speaker 1: tough because like I'm stuck between one of two questions
- 26:19Speaker 1: because I either want to ask you what is what
- 26:24Speaker 1: hooked you on this movie? Or and I think this
- 26:27Speaker 1: is where I'm going to lean into, actually what was
- 26:34Speaker 1: the most like ridiculous scene of the movie, And by
- 26:38Speaker 1: that I mean like, what was like the action scene
- 26:41Speaker 1: that you saw that you were either like, holy crap,
- 26:44Speaker 1: that was cool or you just laughed because of like
- 26:46Speaker 1: how ridiculous the action was.
- 26:48Speaker 3: In the moment.
- 26:50Speaker 4: Okay, so I don't I don't have one actually, like
- 26:55Speaker 4: right off the top of my head from an action
- 26:57Speaker 4: sequence perspective, because it's kind of just ridiculous, and jen
- 27:00Speaker 4: because it's.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Mark Wahlberg. Just his character is a construction worker and
- 27:05Speaker 2: now he has to train to be a spy.
- 27:07Speaker 4: So there's like a little training montage that's a little
- 27:09Speaker 4: bit like ridiculous right where he's kind of getting his
- 27:14Speaker 4: ass kicked and then of course like he gets a
- 27:15Speaker 4: little bit better. But the scene that actually like got
- 27:21Speaker 4: me hooked was actually the trailer that Netflix will automatically
- 27:26Speaker 4: play if you're like hovered over the film, And it's
- 27:28Speaker 4: earlier in the movie when he's talking to Roxanne or
- 27:31Speaker 4: halle Berry's character, and then all of a sudden, like
- 27:35Speaker 4: halle Berry just like drugs him.
- 27:37Speaker 2: And he rolls down a hill and then they bag
- 27:41Speaker 2: him up.
- 27:42Speaker 4: Basically this is how they kidnap him bring him to
- 27:44Speaker 4: London early in the film, and I was like, wait,
- 27:46Speaker 4: what the hell just happened, like, like, why is Halle
- 27:49Speaker 4: Berry like drugging Mark Wahlberg And then this guy's just
- 27:52Speaker 4: like rolling down a hill like completely not knocked out
- 27:54Speaker 4: and then literally wakes up in London. It's just like, Okay,
- 27:57Speaker 4: that's fucking It's totally ridiculous.
- 27:59Speaker 2: Is absolutely ridiculous. So that's kind of what got me.
- 28:02Speaker 4: The little Netflix got me with their stupid little trailer
- 28:04Speaker 4: thing that automatically plays.
- 28:06Speaker 3: I'll be honest with you here.
- 28:07Speaker 4: Put it on, put it on, put it on the
- 28:08Speaker 4: put it on the Mindless List, put it on the
- 28:10Speaker 4: Mindless List.
- 28:11Speaker 2: Do it?
- 28:12Speaker 3: I like that.
- 28:13Speaker 1: So we talked about this earlier. I like that we
- 28:14Speaker 1: have separate lists for all of this. Nick has his
- 28:18Speaker 1: animated list, and I guess now he has his action
- 28:21Speaker 1: movie list that I pitched.
- 28:23Speaker 3: All right, So here's the thing I don't so far.
- 28:28Speaker 1: I think I'm only like half interested in the plot.
- 28:31Speaker 1: If I'm being totally honest, I'm only about half interested. Like,
- 28:35Speaker 1: it does kind of sound like it'd be a great
- 28:37Speaker 1: like thing to put on while I'm doing laundry.
- 28:39Speaker 4: Yeah, right, and and it won't keep you awake.
- 28:44Speaker 2: You can go to sleep and spinish it tomorrow.
- 28:48Speaker 3: Oh, your benefit to the movies. However, Nick, However, however,
- 28:57Speaker 3: here's the thing. Here's the thing.
- 28:59Speaker 1: So you mentioned more Mark Wahlberg, right, and I've enjoyed
- 29:03Speaker 1: some Mark Wahlberg movies. I think he can be either
- 29:06Speaker 1: real hit or missed for me, and not necessarily his performance.
- 29:08Speaker 1: I think he just chooses, like some projects that he
- 29:10Speaker 1: should just never choose. The happening comes to mind halle Berry.
- 29:17Speaker 1: I almost always enjoy halle Berry.
- 29:20Speaker 3: But here's the thing. You pitched me a movie with JK.
- 29:23Speaker 1: Simmons, which, like again for the second week in a row,
- 29:27Speaker 1: that's so unfair that you you just you said something
- 29:31Speaker 1: without actually pitching the movie to me, that I would
- 29:34Speaker 1: automatically add it to my list.
- 29:36Speaker 3: Right.
- 29:37Speaker 1: So, I'm like, I'm really kind of torn here because,
- 29:39Speaker 1: like I'm being honest, Like I'm like, oh yeah, okay,
- 29:42Speaker 1: the plot sounds like it's.
- 29:43Speaker 3: A little forgettable. But I love me some JK. Simmons, man,
- 29:47Speaker 3: I do. I always love him.
- 29:50Speaker 2: It's my saving it's my saving grace.
- 29:52Speaker 1: It's your saving grace here it is, so I will
- 29:55Speaker 1: add it to my list for the hope that the
- 29:58Speaker 1: action and the premise alone is ridiculous enough to pull
- 30:02Speaker 1: me through.
- 30:04Speaker 3: I'm putting it on my list.
- 30:06Speaker 2: Such a bad choice.
- 30:10Speaker 3: Were you trying to not get it on?
- 30:13Speaker 2: No, I mean I'm trying to bidg it to you.
- 30:15Speaker 4: But like you know, it's it's exactly what I advertise
- 30:19Speaker 4: it as. You know, it's exactly what I advertise it as.
- 30:22Speaker 4: So like, listen, I had to watch this film, so
- 30:27Speaker 4: everyone has to watch this film.
- 30:28Speaker 3: Okay, so this is the revenge play son of a bitch,
- 30:31Speaker 3: he played me.
- 30:33Speaker 1: Here's the thing I need, so the chin. This is
- 30:36Speaker 1: going to date this podcast a little bit. But the
- 30:38Speaker 1: Chicago Bears are playing today and I need something stupid
- 30:41Speaker 1: and mindless to watch after that game is gone.
- 30:44Speaker 3: This is it.
- 30:45Speaker 2: This will make you happy.
- 30:48Speaker 1: And like I I know that I am committing myself
- 30:51Speaker 1: to something in which I have said, like I love JK.
- 30:53Speaker 3: Simmons, will watch anything with him in it.
- 30:55Speaker 1: And from what you're saying, it sounds like j K.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Simmons isn't even like that big of a part of
- 30:59Speaker 1: the film.
- 31:00Speaker 2: He's got a decent role. He's got a decent role.
- 31:02Speaker 1: Yeah, Okay, that actually makes me feel a little bit
- 31:04Speaker 1: better about this. I am putting it on my list,
- 31:07Speaker 1: but I am actually going to use this as a
- 31:10Speaker 1: standard from now on of when I am not feeling
- 31:14Speaker 1: super sure about what you're pitching me. So if I
- 31:18Speaker 1: enjoy this, that's gonna be great for fifty to fifty
- 31:20Speaker 1: movies moving forward.
- 31:22Speaker 3: Oh boys, it's gonna work against you if it's not.
- 31:24Speaker 2: Though, all right, I love it. I love it well.
- 31:29Speaker 1: That that will do it for us. On put it
- 31:32Speaker 1: on your list, hopefully we put one of these. If
- 31:36Speaker 1: not both of these movies on your list, or you've
- 31:39Speaker 1: seen both of them. Either way, let us know in
- 31:43Speaker 1: the comments. We want to hear from you whether or
- 31:45Speaker 1: not they sound great, or you've seen them and they
- 31:47Speaker 1: are great, or they're awful, Like I especially want to
- 31:49Speaker 1: know before I watch this movie if you think Nick's
- 31:51Speaker 1: movie is awful, Please please let me know.
- 31:55Speaker 3: If I have made a mistake. But yeah, that'll do
- 31:59Speaker 3: it for us to day.
- 32:00Speaker 1: As far as Next Time goes, once again, Nick, we
- 32:03Speaker 1: failed to talk about it before the cast, so we're
- 32:05Speaker 1: gonna figure it out right now.
- 32:06Speaker 3: Are we doing time travel next time?
- 32:08Speaker 2: No, we're not. We're doing a halfway. We're doing the
- 32:10Speaker 2: halfway of the Penguin.
- 32:12Speaker 1: Yay oh man, okay, yeah. Quick quick review of the penguin.
- 32:17Speaker 1: It's great. Go watch it.
- 32:18Speaker 2: Yeah, do it? Watch that.
- 32:19Speaker 4: Yeah, we're gonna do next week, We're gonna do halfway
- 32:22Speaker 4: thoughts on the penguin.
- 32:23Speaker 2: I think it is going to be the best option.
- 32:25Speaker 1: You want to talk to us sooner rather than later
- 32:28Speaker 1: about the penguin or about Agatha, which we are definitely
- 32:31Speaker 1: going to review once that series has concluded, Nick, where
- 32:33Speaker 1: can the people do that?
- 32:35Speaker 4: You can find us on threads where we're just sharing
- 32:37Speaker 4: our thoughts there there daily.
- 32:39Speaker 2: We're also of course hit subscribe on YouTube here, and
- 32:43Speaker 2: you can find us on Instagram as well.
- 32:45Speaker 4: And until next
- 32:46Speaker 3: Time, either review Thick with you, please
