Transcript
- 0:00Welcome to the We Are More podcast.
- 0:13My name is Alyssa.
- 0:15And my name is Bri.
- 0:16We are two sisters passionate about all things faith and feminism.
- 0:20We believe that Jesus trusted, respected, and encouraged women to teach and preach His
- 0:25word.
- 0:26And apparently that's controversial.
- 0:28Get comfy.
- 0:30Hello world.
- 0:34Hello.
- 0:37You'll be happy to know that today we are recording in a room that's not 9,000 degrees.
- 0:46Nine hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes.
- 0:50Have I made that one before?
- 0:51I don't think you have.
- 0:52Is that the actual right numbers?
- 0:53I'm pretty sure.
- 0:54I always get them wrong.
- 0:55I try and sing it and I'm like four thousand seven hundred and eighty thousand.
- 1:00No, I lost it.
- 1:01I'm not even sure what I just sang.
- 1:05That's from Rent, right?
- 1:06Girl, I don't know.
- 1:07I'm pretty sure it's from Rent.
- 1:10Where have I heard it from though?
- 1:11Glee.
- 1:12Is that what it is?
- 1:14Oh great.
- 1:15Yeah, but like it's just a song that everybody knows.
- 1:18Have you rewatched Glee in recent years?
- 1:20I think during the lockdown I rewatched it and I couldn't make it all the way through.
- 1:25It's so bad.
- 1:26I got to like the last season or two.
- 1:29Yeah, it was bad.
- 1:31I don't remember most of this stuff, but the teacher is horrifying on every level.
- 1:36Oh, a hundred percent terrible.
- 1:37He's a predator.
- 1:38He's a predator.
- 1:39Everybody's a predator in there.
- 1:40Yeah, it's bad.
- 1:41And they're like, it's okay.
- 1:42Because we're singing.
- 1:43We're singing and it's Glee.
- 1:46That happens with thespians.
- 1:47The poor thespians out there.
- 1:51I'm sorry.
- 1:52I support you thespians.
- 1:55We just went and saw Shrek the musical actually.
- 1:57We did.
- 1:58It was great.
- 1:59Well, it was good.
- 2:00It was a fun time.
- 2:01It was a fun time.
- 2:02It was not my favorite performance I've ever seen.
- 2:04No, because they changed a lot of it.
- 2:06Yeah.
- 2:07They really pushed to make it, I would say politically correct.
- 2:11Which is a rough thing to do with Shrek.
- 2:13With Shrek.
- 2:15Let's all keep in mind, it's Shrek.
- 2:19The whole thing is about being weird and not fitting in and not caring.
- 2:27I have a lot of gas.
- 2:29It has never been tame.
- 2:31No.
- 2:32You know what I kind of wondered actually was if, because we went to a midday show.
- 2:39Now the tickets didn't say this, but I wonder if there's a possibility that the midday show
- 2:43was made more for kids and the evening show might have been more normal.
- 2:47I don't know.
- 2:48They still sang that one song.
- 2:50Which one?
- 2:51Why me?
- 2:52Thank you for that.
- 2:53I don't want to cuss on the podcast.
- 3:01Not today.
- 3:02Not today?
- 3:04Do other people know that that's like our tagline?
- 3:08We say it all the time in real life, but I think we've only said it once or twice on
- 3:11the podcast.
- 3:12It came from the podcast.
- 3:13It did, but it's not a running joke.
- 3:16I said it at work the other day and they did not react.
- 3:19That's because they don't listen.
- 3:21That's true.
- 3:22Tell them not to listen.
- 3:23Ahem, out there.
- 3:24Co-workers.
- 3:25My co-workers are spread across the globe and I don't actually know who they are, so.
- 3:31That's so sad for you.
- 3:32It's really not.
- 3:33I'm okay with it.
- 3:34So today we're going to be talking about, this is one of our mini episodes.
- 3:38If you've ever tuned into one of these before, they're kind of just us talking.
- 3:42It's us talking about current events, things that are going on, things that we feel are
- 3:47necessary to sing about.
- 3:48Frankly, mostly it's things Brie saw on TikTok.
- 3:51A hundred percent.
- 3:54And this is one of them.
- 3:55It is.
- 3:56Last mini episode was something I saw on TikTok.
- 3:59They're all something you see on TikTok.
- 4:01Listen, I'm current.
- 4:02I'm on the social medias.
- 4:05I'm scrolling all night long.
- 4:08So this week on TikTok, Brie has been watching ballerinas.
- 4:12Ballerinas.
- 4:13When I was a kid, that's what I wanted to be.
- 4:17I wanted to be a ballerina teacher.
- 4:19We took all of two dance classes in our entire lives.
- 4:22Yep.
- 4:23I don't think that was an option for you.
- 4:24But I was convinced.
- 4:25Because I was my teacher's favorite because I was the cutest.
- 4:29Well, I got to dance with the Easter bunny at the mall.
- 4:34I remember that.
- 4:36Wow, that took me back.
- 4:37Yeah, because I was a favorite.
- 4:39They don't even have malls anymore.
- 4:41They have.
- 4:42I've been watching YouTube videos about that.
- 4:44They're all abandoned.
- 4:45It's actually really spooky.
- 4:47Honestly, all of the malls that I've been to lately have garbage stores in them.
- 4:53It's like croissant sandwiches that all have fruit flies.
- 4:57And like board games and calendars.
- 5:00What?
- 5:01There's a whole store dedicated to board games and calendars.
- 5:06And I've seen it at multiple malls.
- 5:08Are enough people buying board games and calendars?
- 5:11No.
- 5:12And they're overpriced.
- 5:13I feel like maybe there's money laundering.
- 5:14Maybe that's what's happening.
- 5:16That definitely could be.
- 5:18Conspiracies.
- 5:19Dun-dun.
- 5:20All right, now back to normal TikTok.
- 5:21All right, so I've been watching TikTok.
- 5:24Who here has heard of Ballerina Farm?
- 5:27They can't see you raising your hand.
- 5:29I'm raising my hand.
- 5:31And only because I just heard about her, not because I've heard about her before.
- 5:35But Ballerina Farm is this TikTok and Instagram account run by Hannah Neelman.
- 5:43But it's also an actual functioning farm out of Utah.
- 5:47I wrote down where in.
- 5:49I think Utah is sufficient.
- 5:51Utah is sufficient because I can't read my own writing.
- 5:54But this girl, Hannah Neelman, a little bit of a backstory for her.
- 5:59She was studying to be a ballerina at Juilliard back in the day.
- 6:04I don't know when.
- 6:05Prior to 2018, I'm going to say.
- 6:08All right.
- 6:09Well, she's got like eight kids.
- 6:10So yeah.
- 6:11Hey, sorry.
- 6:12Don't spoil it.
- 6:13I'm sorry I spoiled it.
- 6:16So she was a ballerina at Juilliard when she came upon this man named Daniel Neelman.
- 6:25And he is the son of David Neelman, who's the founder of JetBlue.
- 6:30He wanted to date her.
- 6:32She said no for like six months.
- 6:34Eventually, he stalked her.
- 6:37Yeah, I don't want to say he fully stalked her, but he did figure out that she was flying
- 6:42from New York to Salt Lake City and bought a plane ticket that was directly next to her.
- 6:47You know, super creepy, super creepy.
- 6:49And they ended up going on a date.
- 6:52And she said, I would like to date for a year, which is a normal amount of time for she's
- 6:57she grew up Mormon.
- 6:58They're both Mormon.
- 6:59It's a traditional amount of time for someone of that faith to
- 7:04Plus they're very young at this point.
- 7:05Oh, yeah.
- 7:06She hasn't even graduated college.
- 7:07Right.
- 7:08She wanted to date for a year.
- 7:09He said pass.
- 7:10He's only two years older than her.
- 7:12But he was like, I need to be married and engaged now.
- 7:16So they were engaged after a month.
- 7:21After two months, they were married.
- 7:23And after I think three months, they were having they were expecting their first child.
- 7:29Quick turnaround time.
- 7:30Quick turnaround.
- 7:31She birthed her first son and then graduated.
- 7:35And then they moved to Brazil for his job.
- 7:39And then she popped out a couple more kids in Brazil.
- 7:43Now she has a total of eight kids.
- 7:45She is homesteading running this farm with her husband in Utah.
- 7:51They have a website.
- 7:52They sell all their meat, eggs, milk on a website, etc.
- 7:57I don't know.
- 7:58I don't know how farms work, but she's super popular on TikTok and Instagram.
- 8:03Between those two platforms, she has over 18 million followers.
- 8:08She also got really popular because with her last daughter, she had two due dates.
- 8:13So she had her actual due date when she was supposed to birth that kid.
- 8:18And then two weeks, I think, after she birthed that kid, she was in a pageant because she
- 8:26does pageants.
- 8:27So she was Mrs. American 2023.
- 8:32And then she participated in Mrs. World.
- 8:34And that was in January 2024.
- 8:36So she had her kid and then boom was in this pageant.
- 8:40Ouch.
- 8:41Yeah.
- 8:42I guess they didn't realize that maybe this is going to sound bad, but that they had pageants
- 8:45for middle aged women.
- 8:47Yeah, Mrs. I guess.
- 8:49Yeah.
- 8:50I wouldn't call her middle aged.
- 8:51It depends on how long she's planning on living.
- 8:55She's older than us, I think.
- 8:58Well, I hope so.
- 9:02With eight children, I can't imagine having it.
- 9:05But if she started that young, she's probably not that much older than us.
- 9:09She might be your age.
- 9:10As a personal story, shut up.
- 9:17As a personal story, our great grandmother got married when she was 14 and started popping
- 9:24out kids very quickly.
- 9:25So to us, eight kids anywhere near the age group that we're in is insane.
- 9:32But you look at that just a couple of generations ago and she had, I'm not sure how many kids
- 9:37there were.
- 9:38A lot.
- 9:39A lot of kids.
- 9:40Very, very young.
- 9:41I mean, by the time she hit my age, she had all of her kids.
- 9:47You could be a grandmother.
- 9:50Shut up.
- 9:52I've been bringing up my birthday lately, so I'm going to bring up yours.
- 9:56I know that this is ridiculous at my age and you all will never know what it is.
- 10:01I think we've actually said it before.
- 10:03It's a mystery that will remain a mystery at my 97 years of age.
- 10:09People like my friends around my age saying that they're having babies, starting a family,
- 10:14yada, yada, yada.
- 10:15I'm like, whoa!
- 10:16And I'm old.
- 10:17I had kids so many years ago.
- 10:22It should be normal, but my brain still can't wrap around it.
- 10:25I'm like, you can do that.
- 10:27You're still a kid.
- 10:28Well, some of us are still kids.
- 10:32Some of us are as immature as kids.
- 10:36And I'm talking about myself.
- 10:40So the controversy with Hannah came about through an article and it was, I believe,
- 10:49the UK Times.
- 10:51I just heard it was The Times.
- 10:53I think it was the UK Times.
- 10:54Megan Agnaw is the author.
- 10:57Journalist.
- 10:58Okay.
- 10:59The writer.
- 11:00The interviewer.
- 11:01The person.
- 11:02So she went and sat with the family and I think spent a couple days there.
- 11:08Just one day.
- 11:09I think so.
- 11:10And just kind of observed them, as you do if you're writing an article on someone.
- 11:16She interviewed them.
- 11:18She watched them live their lives.
- 11:22And then went back and wrote an article that has become very controversial.
- 11:28And this just came out.
- 11:30So July 20th, 2024 is when this article came out.
- 11:34So the article strongly implied, I'm going to say, that Hannah had given up her life
- 11:42dreams of being a ballerina.
- 11:45She wanted to be a professional dancer.
- 11:47And she chose not to do that so that she could follow her husband where he wanted to go,
- 11:54farm because that's what he wanted to do, and have eight babies because that's what
- 11:59was expected of her, whether from her family or her religion or her husband.
- 12:04One of the pieces that I saw said that she, and this is not that relevant, but I just
- 12:10thought it was hilarious.
- 12:12She was like, you know, we got married and we talked about having kids and we both want
- 12:16kids because I guess they both come from families of like nine children.
- 12:20And so they want a big family.
- 12:24And she was like, we just left it up to God.
- 12:26Whenever God wanted to give us children, that was fine.
- 12:30And God created anatomy and biology, sister.
- 12:33Do you know how that works?
- 12:36Well, she goes, we didn't expect it just a couple months later.
- 12:39I was like, once again, have you had the conversation of the birds and the beast?
- 12:44Right?
- 12:45Did we not talk about this?
- 12:46Come on.
- 12:47Now, I understand that hyper religious families don't necessarily teach sex ed super well,
- 12:54but I think after the first three, you might figure something out.
- 12:58Seriously, birth control.
- 13:00And you know, if you want a huge family, there's nothing wrong with that at all.
- 13:04Have all the babies that you want to have.
- 13:07But to say, well, we just, we left it in God's hands, but we didn't expect it so soon.
- 13:11You're going to end up like the Duggars.
- 13:13Come on.
- 13:14They still want more kids.
- 13:15They've said they want more kids.
- 13:19But Hannah has part of her social media presence is that she is, they call her the queen of
- 13:23the trad wives.
- 13:25That was the name of the article too.
- 13:26Yeah.
- 13:27And that's where a lot of the controversy lies is that she is on social media, on YouTube,
- 13:34promoting this very domestic, very male centered lifestyle.
- 13:42Where I watched a couple of her videos and she makes dinner.
- 13:46There's so many people at the table.
- 13:49They all eat, they destroy everything.
- 13:52And then the kids go off and they do whatever they're going to do.
- 13:54He disappears.
- 13:55I don't know where he went.
- 13:57And she has to sit there and clean everything.
- 13:59And from what I can tell, hand wash everything because they're homesteaders.
- 14:03So she's hand washing all the dishes.
- 14:06She's putting everything away and it's a time lapse.
- 14:09So you can see nobody's coming in to help her.
- 14:11And at one point she's also holding the baby while doing the dishes, while dealing with
- 14:17all of this stuff.
- 14:18You're telling me her husband couldn't come and hold the baby.
- 14:20Well, he was dealing with seven others maybe, but those others are doing their own thing.
- 14:25That's the rest of the video is the kids.
- 14:27Don't get me wrong with nine children, there's going to be a lot of chaos.
- 14:31Is it eight?
- 14:32I'm sorry.
- 14:33Eight children.
- 14:34There's going to be a lot of chaos.
- 14:35Less chaos than nine perhaps, but still quite a lot.
- 14:39I think it's just really difficult because you are so wildly outnumbered.
- 14:45One of the things that came out of that article was, now this seems very foreign to me, but
- 14:51the idea of having nannies.
- 14:54They have billions of dollars, they have tons and tons of money and tons and tons of children.
- 14:59And people were like, well, why don't you get some nannies?
- 15:01Gosh dang it.
- 15:02Well, the husband is very against nannies.
- 15:07So people were like, but Hannah's raising all eight on her own.
- 15:10And it's like, they are her children.
- 15:12So yes.
- 15:13But something that he said in response in the article that, I don't know how to say
- 15:21her name, Agnew.
- 15:22I think it's Agnew.
- 15:23In the article we're discussing.
- 15:24In the article that we're discussing, she writes that Hannah cares for all eight children
- 15:29without the help of a nanny.
- 15:31And her husband, Daniel, told Agnew, the journalist, that quote, Hannah sometimes becomes so ill
- 15:42from exhaustion that she can't get out of bed for a week.
- 15:46Which is crazy to me because not only is she caring for all these children, they also,
- 15:52a homeschool to my knowledge.
- 15:55I think they might bring someone in to help with the homeschooling, but regardless, those
- 15:58kids are always in the house.
- 16:01And she is cooking clean and doing all of that.
- 16:04But she also runs the farm.
- 16:07So she's taking care of, like, they have chickens and they have, they just started a dairy.
- 16:11It's a full blown fricking farm.
- 16:14And also she manages her social media accounts, which is a ton of work.
- 16:19And it does bring in money.
- 16:21But that is a ton of work.
- 16:23The girl never stops.
- 16:27I think my response as the husband would be like, girl, sit down.
- 16:31Let's calm down.
- 16:33Let's order a pizza.
- 16:35Can I make dinner instead?
- 16:37Or not even, forget that.
- 16:39Don't ask.
- 16:41Just start making dinner.
- 16:42It's not something to brag about that your wife is so exhausted from life.
- 16:47From her life.
- 16:49That she can't get out of bed for a week.
- 16:52That's sad.
- 16:53At the end of the day, it is abuse.
- 16:55That's what it is.
- 16:56And now Hannah has come out with some statements after the fact that I think it's important
- 17:02to address and talk about because she says that the article presented things in a very
- 17:10untrue light.
- 17:13And that she's not being abused, that she made these decisions for herself on her own.
- 17:19She didn't just make them to make him happy.
- 17:21And that she loves the life that she has.
- 17:24She loves her kids.
- 17:25She loves raising them.
- 17:26She did a video and then she also did an article, like a blog on their website.
- 17:31And I want to say that we are not criticizing anyone that wants to be a stay at home mom.
- 17:38Anyone that wants to have eight children.
- 17:40I know we make it sound like it's so overwhelming, but my gosh, it's got to be overwhelming for
- 17:43me personally.
- 17:44I cannot imagine.
- 17:45But if that is what you want, if that's where you feel like God is leading you, go for it.
- 17:52If you want to have a farm and turn your own butter, more power to you.
- 17:56Absolutely.
- 17:57No issues with that.
- 17:59No shade.
- 18:00Do your thing.
- 18:01No shade.
- 18:02No shame.
- 18:03I think the problem in this instance lies in choice.
- 18:11Did she have a choice?
- 18:12One of the people that I was listening to, she said, can you give up your own agency?
- 18:20Can you say to someone else, you have full power and control over me from here on out?
- 18:26To me that sounds unbiblical.
- 18:29Because you're putting that person before God at the end of the day.
- 18:33God made you.
- 18:34He cares about you.
- 18:35He cares about that other person too, but that to me seems like it's a not okay thing
- 18:40to do.
- 18:41I'm very 50 shades and that freaks me out.
- 18:43Well, I think that falls under, I don't know if you guys have ever seen this, but there's
- 18:49a very famous depiction from the, it's from Bill Gothard, who was like a famous very,
- 18:58very conservative horrifying.
- 19:00Bill!
- 19:01Not that Bill.
- 19:02I hate you so I always will.
- 19:06And it's an umbrella.
- 19:08So at the top there's God and God, I don't know, is there.
- 19:14And then there's-
- 19:15Wow, this is descriptive.
- 19:16Shut up.
- 19:17Maybe we'll post a picture of it.
- 19:20There's an umbrella and it's God.
- 19:23And so God is like overlapping everybody.
- 19:25And then there's a slightly smaller umbrella and that's the husband.
- 19:29And there's a slightly smaller umbrella and that's the wife.
- 19:31And there's a slightly smaller umbrella and that's the kids.
- 19:34You can look it up, it'll make more sense.
- 19:36But that's what it reminds me of, is like I'm going to put my husband on this pedestal
- 19:41where he protects me and I assume that he is following what God wants both of us to
- 19:49do.
- 19:50As opposed to me having my own choice, my own agency and saying, well this is what God
- 19:55is telling me that I need or that our kids need or that we need.
- 20:02Like sometimes it's okay to say, God is telling me this for both of us, what's he telling
- 20:07you?
- 20:08Communication?
- 20:09What?
- 20:10Miracles.
- 20:11So I think it's such an interesting concept to think, can you make a decision in your
- 20:17life, the choice to get married to a particular person, that says you get to control me forever.
- 20:25You get to tell me what to do, you get to tell me that I can't have a nanny, you get
- 20:29to tell me whether I can have an epidural or not, because that's another controversy
- 20:33that was in the article.
- 20:34You can tell me where we're going to live and whether I'm going to leave my career and
- 20:38all of these things.
- 20:40Is that okay?
- 20:42Are we as a society okay with one decision defining all of those things for somebody?
- 20:50And obviously we can't step in for her, she's going to make the decisions she's going to
- 20:55make, but when it comes to allowing her to be an influencer, someone that influences
- 21:02young girls, young boys, are we okay with that?
- 21:06I'm not okay with that.
- 21:07Yeah.
- 21:08I mean she's influencing 18 million people.
- 21:13That is a lot of people.
- 21:14That's a lot of people.
- 21:16And one of the other things that I wanted to talk about too is her situation in life.
- 21:23The tradwife movement idealizes stay at home moms and traditional marriage, which means
- 21:32female submission, which means men make the decisions, etc. etc.
- 21:37We talk about it all the time.
- 21:39And in making that the ideal position for a woman, it's easy to do when you're a millionaire.
- 21:47She married into a millionaire family.
- 21:51I don't know their net worth.
- 21:53I don't know, but they're loaded.
- 21:55I mean they own a whole airline.
- 21:58Lots of people own planes.
- 21:59They own an airline.
- 22:04And when you have that kind of money, you have a lot of freedom.
- 22:10If she chooses to divorce this man someday because he is whatever, because if she decides
- 22:18that this is an abusive situation or whatever, that she leaves him, number one, she's probably
- 22:24going to get a solid divorce settlement.
- 22:28She's going to get a lot of money out of this.
- 22:30Number two, she has a social media following.
- 22:33So she really does have a job that she's going to make money at.
- 22:37Financially, she's doing okay while saying, be a stay at home mom.
- 22:42Quit your job.
- 22:43You don't need to make money.
- 22:44She's making all kinds of money.
- 22:46Other women in less financially stable situations.
- 22:51Her influences.
- 22:53Yes.
- 22:54Let's say they follow what she does and they quit their jobs and they are fully financially
- 22:59dependent on their spouse.
- 23:02Now they don't have the option to leave.
- 23:07If he becomes abusive, if he abuses his power, she can't leave.
- 23:12She can, but it's going to be very difficult.
- 23:15She's going to have to look to family.
- 23:17She's going to have to look to charities.
- 23:19She's going to have to look to a lot of places to help financially support her in this divorce
- 23:25situation.
- 23:26Right.
- 23:27Whereas, if she had a stable job, if she had some independence, if she had a community
- 23:33outside of her husband.
- 23:35Or the people that she was looking to be influenced from encouraged her to be strong, to not just
- 23:43make decisions because a man or someone else told you to do so.
- 23:48You are strong.
- 23:49You are valued.
- 23:50You are worth more.
- 23:52Maybe she would make a different choice.
- 23:55And I'm not saying, again, again and again and again.
- 23:58If your choice is to be a homemaker, if that's something that you feel God is calling you
- 24:04to do, awesome.
- 24:06Do it.
- 24:09But I think don't hold it up as the gold standard for all women.
- 24:13For all women.
- 24:14Just because you're a woman means that you must enjoy cooking and cleaning and birthing
- 24:20babies without epidurals.
- 24:22No one enjoys birthing babies.
- 24:23I mean, maybe there's like two people that do, but it is a bad time.
- 24:27Okay, we got to talk about why we're talking about this though, because she has had eight
- 24:32children.
- 24:33And the interviewer was talking to her and she's like, so you had all of these without
- 24:39any epidurals, any pain medication, whatever, yada yada yada.
- 24:43And she's like, yes.
- 24:44And her husband had left the room at that point and she whispered to the interviewer,
- 24:49she was like, except for one of her daughters, I think her name was Martha, because she actually
- 24:54had her at a hospital.
- 24:55She's like, I had an epidural with that one because I ran two weeks late and she was a
- 25:0010 pound baby and it was the best experience ever.
- 25:03And Daniel was gone.
- 25:06And she specifically mentioned her husband wasn't there.
- 25:09She had an epidural and it was the best birthing experience of her life.
- 25:14Well I believe she's made a statement about that particular part of the article too.
- 25:20And she said, she didn't whisper it because he left the room and he didn't want her to
- 25:25hear him because that's how the article made it sound.
- 25:28She said, I whispered because he got a phone call and so he left the room and I didn't
- 25:33want to bother his phone call.
- 25:35No, I can't sit here and say, oh yeah, absolutely.
- 25:38She's lying.
- 25:39I can't do that.
- 25:41That doesn't sound the most logical to me, simply because his phone call is a whole lot
- 25:46less important than your interview.
- 25:49And why would you feel the need to mention it at all that your husband was gone for that
- 25:54birth?
- 25:55Right.
- 25:56I would just be like, yeah, except for this 10 pound baby that I had to push out, I had
- 25:59to get drugged up for that one.
- 26:02And the concept behind that is that he believes in natural birth, correct?
- 26:07I don't really know.
- 26:08I'm making assumptions that he does.
- 26:12I don't really think he gets a choice.
- 26:14Well, if he's not pushing it out his Vagene, then that's what kills me is women, whatever
- 26:24birthing experience you want to have, it is your decision.
- 26:29If you want to stay at home and have your baby in a bathtub, as long as you have some
- 26:35medical professionals there, please, please do that for me.
- 26:39But do it like do that.
- 26:41That is your experience.
- 26:43You have had to carry this child for nine months.
- 26:45You have to push it out of your body.
- 26:47It's a bad time.
- 26:48Yeah.
- 26:49So do it however you want to do it.
- 26:50If you want to do it in a hospital with 45 doctors and an epidural, that would be my
- 26:55recommendation.
- 26:5645.
- 26:5745.
- 26:58No nurses, all doctors.
- 27:01Actually, the nurses are way better.
- 27:02I trust the nurses.
- 27:05I had a midwife for my son and it was great.
- 27:09She was wonderful.
- 27:10She was so kind and helpful the whole time.
- 27:13So maybe midwives.
- 27:14Maybe that's the way to go.
- 27:15I didn't like her.
- 27:16You didn't like the one that was there when I had him.
- 27:22All I know is I was forced to hold a leg and now I will never have children.
- 27:29Adoption is always an option for you.
- 27:31A big fan of adoption.
- 27:34I feel like something that was brought up through this article coming out through all
- 27:38of the drama is women have dreams.
- 27:41I don't know if you noticed, but women and men both equally have dreams.
- 27:46More often than not in our society, it seems like women are forced to balance their dreams
- 27:53with maybe their family's dreams and pick which ones work best for them.
- 27:59Usually, they put their family first.
- 28:03You don't really see that a lot with men because their jobs are to do their nine to five.
- 28:13That's their dream.
- 28:14Their dream is their job, not their family.
- 28:17Whereas women are told their dreams are their family.
- 28:19I think we can tie that really nicely into a TikTok that Brie made recently.
- 28:25It's great.
- 28:26You guys should go watch it.
- 28:27I highly encourage not watching it.
- 28:34There was a statement made aboutâ¦
- 28:36I'm not going to mention any names because I just don't want to deal with that, but
- 28:41one politician made a statement about another politician.
- 28:43Oh, well listen, tell me more.
- 28:47He called herâ¦
- 28:48It was a middle-aged man, right?
- 28:51He called her a single cat lady?
- 28:55What was the exact statement?
- 28:58Childless cat lady.
- 28:59Childless cat lady.
- 29:00Childless cat lady.
- 29:01And when I heard that, and I don't really think it matters what side of the political
- 29:06spectrum you fall on, would you ever say that about a man who had focused on his career?
- 29:12Oh, that's a childless cat man.
- 29:16Why is it an insult for someone to be childless?
- 29:19I have no tiny clue.
- 29:21It is not.
- 29:23She made a choice to focus on her dreams, her career, what she wanted out of life, and
- 29:30that is as valid as a woman making a choice to have children and make that her goal.
- 29:37You don't get to judge someone based on that choice specifically.
- 29:43You don't know the backstory of it either.
- 29:45Maybe she's not able to.
- 29:47And regardless, whether it was the ability to or whether it was a choice on her part,
- 29:53it's none of your business.
- 29:54None of your business.
- 29:56And her ability to bear children has nothing to do with her ability to lead.
- 30:05Any women.
- 30:06Not just her.
- 30:07All women.
- 30:08Right.
- 30:09Yeah, and I think we're not trying to make a political statement here.
- 30:11We're simply trying to make a statement about women because our value is so often tied to
- 30:15our ability to or choice to have children and raise them and homestead and do all, you
- 30:24know, cook and clean and do all of these things that we see these TradWive influencers doing.
- 30:30And the fact that it's coming out as an insult in such a public political arena is so disheartening.
- 30:39I feel like I feel more enraged just because I am childless.
- 30:47You're not a cat lady though.
- 30:48I'm not a cat.
- 30:49I don't really like cats.
- 30:51But just the thought that someone thinks that my value is any less because I don't have
- 30:58children.
- 30:59I get that question constantly.
- 31:01When are you having kids?
- 31:03When are you going to start birthing kids?
- 31:05But my value is not tied to my, if any, future children.
- 31:10Right.
- 31:11You know?
- 31:12Yeah.
- 31:13You hope that because we talk about things from a Christian perspective.
- 31:16We talk about things from the church world and whatever.
- 31:20And there's a part of me that because we're a little bit insulated and we talk about specifically
- 31:25this feminism concept within the church, you have this hope that all of this misogyny and
- 31:30garbage is not happening in the greater world.
- 31:33And that's why it's so important that we're speaking out about it still.
- 31:41You think like, okay, Susan B. Anthony did her job way back in the day.
- 31:45It was Susan B. Anthony, right?
- 31:47She's one of them.
- 31:49But it is still happening today.
- 31:53And I think we want, this is the legacy that we leave is being able to speak out and Susan
- 32:00B. Anthony could take one step, but she couldn't take the amount of steps that we can take.
- 32:05And then her daughter could take an extra step and her daughter could take another one.
- 32:09And so it's important that we not forget that the world is still not perfect, that misogyny
- 32:15is still out there, that patriarchy is still out there and happening to so many women.
- 32:20And so we continue to take those steps forward because feminism isn't women should be above
- 32:28everyone else and let's have a matriarchy.
- 32:31It's equality.
- 32:32Can we finally just have equality?
- 32:34Please.
- 32:35Like I said, that's hard.
- 32:36I saw a TikTok that, oh, shock.
- 32:39And we're ending on TikTok.
- 32:41The other day, there was like, instead of asking someone if they're a feminist, we should
- 32:46start asking people if they're misogynist.
- 32:52Because we should just assume that people are.
- 32:54Oh my gosh.
- 32:55Like you're for equality, right?
- 32:56Oh, are you not?
- 32:58I think that's hilarious.
- 33:01All right.
- 33:02So guys, your homework for the week.
- 33:03Yeah.
- 33:04What?
- 33:05And ask someone if they're misogynist.
- 33:06Oh boy.
- 33:07Our daughters daughters will adore us.
- 33:14That's really stuck in my head right now.
- 33:15I don't believe you.
- 33:17Okay.
- 33:18So next week we are going to be starting.
- 33:22I don't even want to call this series a two parter.
- 33:25Oh, the best thing's always coming to me.
- 33:30What?
- 33:31I think you never liked.
- 33:35You're so weird.
- 33:38So we're going to talk about our different roles in the church.
- 33:41So Bree's going to be up first because I decided that she has to go first.
- 33:46I'm the oldest I get to decide.
- 33:48What?
- 33:49We've had so many podcasts about that not being true.
- 33:54So she's going to talk about singleness in the church and what that looks like for her
- 34:01from her perspective.
- 34:02I'll still be here, but mostly she has to talk.
- 34:06Honestly, she can leave.
- 34:08She has no idea.
- 34:11I really don't.
- 34:12I got married when I was 21.
- 34:14And then we'll have a week of a mini episode that we have yet to decide about because those
- 34:18are supposed to be current events.
- 34:21And then we'll do me talking about being married in the church and what that looks like.
- 34:26So we hope you guys can get out.
- 34:30I have no idea.
- 34:31So we hope you guys will tune in for those.
- 34:33I think those will be really fun and interesting to talk about.
- 34:37Very informative.
- 34:38I don't know if fun is going to be the answer.
- 34:39I always say fun.
- 34:41Fun is not.
- 34:42I don't know that any of this is fun.
- 34:44Fun meaning may make you cry.
- 34:47Alright, so if you want to cry later, I had about two weeks.
- 34:54Tune in.
- 34:55Tune in.
- 34:56One more thing that I wanted to say.
- 34:58Last week we said we were going to challenge ourselves every week to grow our listener
- 35:03base and we asked you guys if you would share with anybody that you knew in Canada.
- 35:08And we saw Canada pop up just this morning.
- 35:12I'm so excited and just so honored and blessed that you guys wanted to share like that.
- 35:18So this week I think our challenge is going to be anybody that knows anyone in Australia.
- 35:22We would love to see that little flag pop up on there.
- 35:25I think that would be super fun.
- 35:28So please do share it with them.
- 35:29Please do share it with anybody that you think would be interested in our faith and feminism
- 35:33topic.
- 35:34Additionally, yesterday we hit a thousand downloads and we are so beyond excited about
- 35:40that.
- 35:41My daughter made us a sign.
- 35:42It was super cute.
- 35:43And we're just, I don't know, super blessed that you guys want to be on this journey with
- 35:48us and we hope that you'll continue to hang out in the future and listen to more crazy
- 35:54fun things that we have to say.
- 35:56Not fun.
- 35:57Crazy intense things that we have to say.
- 36:00Alright, well we'll see you guys later.
- 36:03We're going to go eat some dinner.
- 36:04Oh, I'm so hungry.
- 36:05I made bread.
- 36:06Thank you.
- 36:07You tried my...
- 36:08Shut up.
- 36:09Okay, goodbye.
