- 0:16Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriot's Unfiltered.
- 0:20Speaker 3: Well, you go to the Raiders at six, the Raiders
- 0:22Speaker 3: give you their second round pick, so you package then
- 0:24Speaker 3: the two sects, so you pick it that at six
- 0:26Speaker 3: you take Campbell or gent package the two second rounders.
- 0:28Speaker 4: That to go up twenty spots.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Maybe not quite twenty, but work with me here, Evan, I'm.
- 0:34Speaker 4: Trying to let the fact.
- 0:37Speaker 2: What he's saying is I have the quarterback, so you
- 0:40Speaker 2: don't have to worry.
- 0:41Speaker 3: About I got a channel Paul here, as Paul would go,
- 0:44Speaker 3: do they I think they gotta They gotta tap that class.
- 0:46Speaker 3: They also got to to tap the front seven classes
- 0:49Speaker 3: that class, tap that class.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Jake wants to know if I've received our Lads Guide yet.
- 0:55Speaker 5: No.
- 0:55Speaker 2: I think they're going into print next week. You know,
- 0:59Speaker 2: the day it comes out, you print it out.
- 1:00Speaker 6: You know.
- 1:01Speaker 7: Fred's stand in front of the.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Tony suggests the Foxy Lady. Okay, all right, my cousin
- 1:08Speaker 2: used to work there on stage or off stage.
- 1:10Speaker 3: No comment.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Okay, Wow, she was there and now put your hands
- 1:15Speaker 2: together for a lady Deuce.
- 1:19Speaker 8: This is Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website. For deals,

- 1:27Speaker 2: All right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 1:30Speaker 2: at a Lets Stadium, and we're fully into free agency.
- 1:34Speaker 2: We're getting ready for the draft. It's all. It's exciting.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Got owners meetings coming up. Those are always fun, so
- 1:42Speaker 2: lots of stuff to talk about. It's Evan, it's Paul,
- 1:45Speaker 2: it's Deuce, it's me, it's Matt and Nabooth and we'll
- 1:47Speaker 2: be here until two o'clock talking Patriots and whatever else
- 1:51Speaker 2: we want to talk about. Yeah, So Christian ellis back
- 1:55Speaker 2: in the fold. Reportedly they've matched the offer that the
- 1:59Speaker 2: Raiders gave them. So every lot of linebackers, I would say,
- 2:04Speaker 2: we're good with linebackers, right.
- 2:07Speaker 3: I wouldn't think so. I mean a lot of them
- 2:09Speaker 3: are the same I just started off with.
- 2:11Speaker 7: I would think, so, Fred sorry about that.
- 2:14Speaker 2: I told him I am forbidding him for using I
- 2:18Speaker 2: think when he.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Is, I'm gonna I think jar I think like I
- 2:22Speaker 3: think like I think.
- 2:23Speaker 4: I mean, basically, I'm a big I think I too.
- 2:26Speaker 3: I'm trying more.
- 2:27Speaker 2: I think I think we all are.
- 2:29Speaker 3: I'm surprised that they resigned Christianallis. I thought that they
- 2:33Speaker 3: had signed a couple of free agent linebackers and those
- 2:35Speaker 3: guys seem to fit that mold. Maybe they like him as.
- 2:37Speaker 7: A special teams guy.
- 2:40Speaker 3: I don't know if some people are saying he's Mike
- 2:43Speaker 3: Frabel's type of linebacker, and I don't know if I
- 2:45Speaker 3: believe that's the case. That he has him targeted to
- 2:48Speaker 3: play on defense Almos.
- 2:51Speaker 5: I'm a little cautious about because I've heard a lot
- 2:54Speaker 5: of different guys or Mike Frable type of fill in
- 2:56Speaker 5: the blank position and just curious as to how that
- 3:02Speaker 5: sort of became a thing like this, have you not?
- 3:07Speaker 2: And he's versatile.
- 3:08Speaker 5: Yeah. When hearing that, a lot of people are describing
- 3:11Speaker 5: different players, even like prospective draft picks like Mike Rabel
- 3:15Speaker 5: kind of players, I feel like I need to learn
- 3:19Speaker 5: more about Mike Abel to coach.
- 3:20Speaker 3: He's not going to play much his first four years,
- 3:22Speaker 3: then he then he'll go somewhere else and be a starter.
- 3:24Speaker 4: Well, I think it's a it's a it's a body
- 3:27Speaker 4: type thing at linebacker. I feel like that people are
- 3:29Speaker 4: gravitating towards Just to answer your your question.
- 3:32Speaker 5: You know, yeah, I'm talking about all positions.
- 3:34Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, Lina worry, is.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Drake may his type of quarterback? If the answers yes
- 3:38Speaker 2: and let's go, I'd hope so.
- 3:41Speaker 3: I would say that Will Campbell reminds me of Tyler Lawan.
- 3:44Speaker 5: I've heard Will Campbell described as a Mike Rabel type
- 3:47Speaker 5: of player, just as an example. I know what we
- 3:49Speaker 5: were talking about with the size, you know, like can
- 3:51Speaker 5: we've I think our buddy Mike Giardi had a story
- 3:55Speaker 5: about Jawan Bentley just sort of alluding to him having
- 3:57Speaker 5: dropped some weight being down in the two thirties. That
- 4:02Speaker 5: would sort of line up with everyone was just about
- 4:04Speaker 5: to say about the style of linebacker. I think Rabel
- 4:07Speaker 5: is looking for as opposed to, you know, the big
- 4:10Speaker 5: two fifty plus pound guys that Belichick grab.
- 4:13Speaker 2: It's a losing weight. Will Campbell seems to have gained
- 4:16Speaker 2: a little weight. He said he get weighed in at
- 4:18Speaker 2: three oh six at his pro day.
- 4:20Speaker 4: I think that was that that's not losing weight.
- 4:23Speaker 5: Is it a confusing him with Mason Graham? Yeah, oh man, Yeah,
- 4:26Speaker 5: Mason Graham's the one who was under under three hundred at.
- 4:29Speaker 4: The Mason Graham Cheesebergers.
- 4:31Speaker 5: Okay, weedy, So don't worry everybody. I only took one
- 4:34Speaker 5: show off on the back and speak.
- 4:36Speaker 2: But with Will camp so since he's had his prota,
- 4:38Speaker 2: did they measure his arms?
- 4:40Speaker 4: Yeah, so there is a there's a lot of scuttle
- 4:42Speaker 4: butt about the arms right now, A lot of scuttle
- 4:44Speaker 4: bit about the arms.
- 4:46Speaker 5: Because you.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Measured the arms in half away if they came in
- 4:51Speaker 2: over thirty four.
- 4:52Speaker 3: We know.
- 4:54Speaker 4: So here's the deal. The arm length measurements at the
- 4:58Speaker 4: Senior Bowl and at the Shrine Bowl were for some
- 5:01Speaker 4: reason different than the arm length measurements at the combine.
- 5:04Speaker 4: So whoever measured the arm lengths at the combine, they
- 5:08Speaker 4: are bringing into question whether or not that was accurate
- 5:10Speaker 4: across the board, like not just with Will Campbell, everybody.
- 5:14Speaker 4: So like Ozzie Trapilo, who I saw yesterday at Boston College,
- 5:18Speaker 4: he measured it at thirty three and a half at
- 5:20Speaker 4: the Senior Bowl, then somehow lost to half an inch
- 5:23Speaker 4: in his arm length at the combine. He measured thirty
- 5:25Speaker 4: three flat at the combine.
- 5:27Speaker 5: So who would have incentive well to do one or the.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Other if the methodology is just no, it could.
- 5:34Speaker 5: Be as honest as that. But who would have incentive
- 5:37Speaker 5: if there were some something, you know, unto a going
- 5:40Speaker 5: on Senior Bowl. People are pumping up their guys.
- 5:45Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean that's possible.
- 5:46Speaker 5: Combine doesn't care who. I mean, they're all there's three
- 5:48Speaker 5: hundred guys invited to the Combine. They don't care which ones.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Go measurement in his pro day.
- 5:53Speaker 4: Oh we don't know. But why the point that I
- 5:56Speaker 4: was trying to get to Paul Evan didn't do it
- 5:58Speaker 4: is that you're at that there's a lot of teams
- 6:02Speaker 4: that are going to actually measure themselves because I don't
- 6:06Speaker 4: think that there's too much inconsistency with the numbers from
- 6:10Speaker 4: the college you know, all Star games to the.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Comby more of a headache than you obviously can't take
- 6:16Speaker 2: you like you can't take the pure valves.
- 6:20Speaker 4: You can't take the pro day numbers like.
- 6:23Speaker 5: Pro Day Yeah, okay, but a.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Forty I can see because you know, if you're doing
- 6:28Speaker 2: it on a stop watch that I can see that
- 6:32Speaker 2: you know you're you're a tenth off or whatever. But
- 6:36Speaker 2: a tape measure is a tape measure should be Yeah.
- 6:39Speaker 3: It was my understanding that there would be not the
- 6:41Speaker 3: measurements off at the Shrine Bowl as well as the s.
- 6:44Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:44Speaker 4: So the measurements are and it's again it's not consistent
- 6:49Speaker 4: whether it's short or or long. Right, Like we're going
- 6:52Speaker 4: all over the place. Like some guys came in shorter
- 6:55Speaker 4: at the combine, some guys came in right.
- 6:58Speaker 3: So where were they measuring from.
- 7:00Speaker 4: At this point? And I'm being dead serious at this
- 7:03Speaker 4: point when it comes to Will Campbell, the Patriots are
- 7:05Speaker 4: going to have to host Will Campbell on a thirty
- 7:08Speaker 4: visit and measure his freaking arms.
- 7:10Speaker 5: Can I just say one thing that I don't want
- 7:13Speaker 5: to hear. If the Patriots think Will Campbell can play
- 7:16Speaker 5: tackle regardless of his the length of his arms, they
- 7:19Speaker 5: can convince me on this and we'll I'll wait and
- 7:22Speaker 5: see and hopefully they'll be right, and I'll have no
- 7:26Speaker 5: issue with that. If the Patriots drapped Will Campbell because
- 7:29Speaker 5: they said they had him in on his pro day
- 7:30Speaker 5: and they actually measured his arms and they're really X,
- 7:33Speaker 5: I'm going to be sick to my stomach that they're
- 7:35Speaker 5: just trying to convince themselves that the arms are long enough. Again,
- 7:39Speaker 5: if you think that he can play with those what
- 7:41Speaker 5: is it, thirty three and thirty thirty two. If they're
- 7:49Speaker 5: convinced that that's not a deal breaker, he's good enough,
- 7:53Speaker 5: he can do it. I'm okay with that. I'm not
- 7:55Speaker 5: okay if they just say, well, the combine's wrong.
- 7:57Speaker 4: Well, right, So apparently I think believe it was Greg
- 8:01Speaker 4: Bdard that reported this, said that last year in the
- 8:06Speaker 4: spring they measured his arms at thirty two and seven
- 8:09Speaker 4: eighths and then at the combine he was thirty two
- 8:13Speaker 4: and five a's. So now we have that measurements out
- 8:16Speaker 4: there that was also put out there by Jim Nagy
- 8:19Speaker 4: of the Senior Bowl, that he was thirty two and
- 8:21Speaker 4: seven as the combine comes in shorter at thirty two
- 8:24Speaker 4: and five. As no one knows what the right answer.
- 8:27Speaker 2: I can just see like the first scrum that Will
- 8:30Speaker 2: Campbell's available, but Guard tiles up next to him and
- 8:34Speaker 2: he's got like a measurement and trying to get it
- 8:37Speaker 2: on his own.
- 8:38Speaker 4: I've never all right, I've never seen anything.
- 8:43Speaker 5: I agree with everything. I don't ever remember that.
- 8:45Speaker 4: I've been falling the draft my my whole life, and
- 8:47Speaker 4: I have never seen anything anything like this with the
- 8:51Speaker 4: whole topic, Like when it comes to now, all of
- 8:53Speaker 4: a sudden, we're experts on wingspan, we're.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Experts on Will Campbell, and you knew that you had
- 8:58Speaker 2: thirty three inch arms. Would you just have a public
- 9:01Speaker 2: demonstration of a measurement and just say, screw all of you.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Here it is. If you want me, take me. If
- 9:08Speaker 2: you don't, don't.
- 9:10Speaker 5: It is funny that such a mundane thing can so
- 9:16Speaker 5: grossly impact a guy's future. We're talking like inches, millions
- 9:20Speaker 5: of dollars of inches, because going forward, if he's I mean,
- 9:25Speaker 5: even if he's a great guard, he won't make what
- 9:26Speaker 5: he could make as a great tackle, right, Like, what
- 9:32Speaker 5: is it three eighths of an inch or five eighths
- 9:34Speaker 5: of an inch or the difference in millions of dollars?
- 9:36Speaker 5: I mean, potentially it's.
- 9:37Speaker 4: The difference of him being a lock in the top
- 9:39Speaker 4: five and not being a lock in Like if he
- 9:43Speaker 4: had thirty three plus inch arms, he'd be a locktime.
- 9:46Speaker 5: But even if he ends up going in the top ten, Yeah,
- 9:49Speaker 5: that won't cost him that much in the in the
- 9:52Speaker 5: immediate short term, but down the road, if he's a
- 9:55Speaker 5: guard instead of guards make a lot of money too.
- 9:57Speaker 5: I'm not we don't need to have a bake sale
- 9:59Speaker 5: for will ca Amble. If he turns out to be
- 10:01Speaker 5: Quentin Nelson, he's going to make a lot of money
- 10:03Speaker 5: whether it's guard or tackle. But left tackles make more
- 10:06Speaker 5: than left guards. Yep, and eventually that will be all over,
- 10:11Speaker 5: you know, three eighths of an inch. It's it's kind
- 10:14Speaker 5: of crazy crazy.
- 10:16Speaker 2: So when you watch the tape, Yeah, is it evident
- 10:23Speaker 2: that well this guy could use longer arms or is
- 10:26Speaker 2: it even not an issue? And if it's not an issue,
- 10:28Speaker 2: then why is it an issue? Now?
- 10:30Speaker 5: Yes?
- 10:30Speaker 4: And no, I think it's a I can't even get
- 10:33Speaker 4: right that's right of this because I think it's evident
- 10:36Speaker 4: if you want to look for it, right like, and
- 10:39Speaker 4: if there's things that there's one or two reps a
- 10:42Speaker 4: game where you say to yourself, did he lose that
- 10:44Speaker 4: block because his arms aren't long enough? But then there's
- 10:47Speaker 4: sixty eight other blocks in the game where he's perfectly fine.
- 10:51Speaker 4: So that's offensive line though, right. All it takes is
- 10:54Speaker 4: for you to get the quarterback strips sacked once and
- 10:56Speaker 4: you've had a bad game.
- 10:57Speaker 2: So you know, I think he would be more of
- 11:00Speaker 2: an issue if this guy was like coming from some
- 11:03Speaker 2: small school but.
- 11:04Speaker 5: Found that he planned a U he gives me.
- 11:08Speaker 2: I agree with Fred, the competition's good. So at least
- 11:11Speaker 2: you know that he was going up against guys who were,
- 11:15Speaker 2: you know, future nflers. That should give you a little
- 11:18Speaker 2: bit of comfort.
- 11:19Speaker 4: Absolutely. I mean there's tape against him against pretty much
- 11:22Speaker 4: every top SEC edge rusher in this class. You know,
- 11:26Speaker 4: Shamar Stewart, Kyle Canard, Nick Gorton, like all the way down.
- 11:30Speaker 2: So if I'm Elliott and I'm Verbel, I'm going to
- 11:32Speaker 2: Maroon and Dante Scarnack and go, should we take this guy?
- 11:35Speaker 2: If they say yes, take him.
- 11:38Speaker 3: And Doug Marone was there yesterday too.
- 11:39Speaker 4: Yeah, Doug Maron was there yesterday, was locked in, locked
- 11:42Speaker 4: into Ozzie Trapilo's workout. It seems like he he likes him,
- 11:47Speaker 4: some azi, big kid athletic.
- 11:49Speaker 2: I like him late later in the draft.
- 11:52Speaker 5: Day two. Yeah, day two guy, you think he's Day two,
- 11:55Speaker 5: That's what I mean. I don't think that everybody. I'm not.
- 11:58Speaker 5: I don't not think that. I'm just going by what
- 12:00Speaker 5: people are projecting, don't I don't rank them. Bill taught
- 12:04Speaker 5: me that it.
- 12:04Speaker 4: Might be like a he could be a top seventy
- 12:06Speaker 4: five picky.
- 12:08Speaker 2: I don't know if I want to if I take Campbell,
- 12:10Speaker 2: I don't know if I want to take a third
- 12:12Speaker 2: round on another alignement.
- 12:13Speaker 5: Yeah, well we should talk about the mass Live reporting
- 12:18Speaker 5: that Elliott Wolf over the weekend at an event suggested
- 12:23Speaker 5: definitively that they maybe focused a little bit too much
- 12:28Speaker 5: on position last year and they won't do that this year.
- 12:30Speaker 5: It's more best player available. But I think that that
- 12:33Speaker 5: is so widely misunderstood. I think you always want to
- 12:38Speaker 5: get the best player available, but there's limits to that,
- 12:42Speaker 5: and there are positions that are not conducive to being taken.
- 12:46Speaker 5: You know, you don't take the best quarterback available at four, right,
- 12:49Speaker 5: if you're the Patriots, right, you know, if he's the
- 12:51Speaker 5: best player available, obviously you have drag me a kicker.
- 12:56Speaker 5: So I think there is an argument to be made.
- 13:00Speaker 5: Blocky Rears that was a blend that that deuces, you know,
- 13:05Speaker 5: mock draft theory that he's been roundly you know, teased about.
- 13:08Speaker 5: I wouldn't say criticize, I would say teased. You can
- 13:12Speaker 5: make an argument Ashton genty might be the best player available.
- 13:15Speaker 5: You can make an argument that Tyler Warren might be
- 13:16Speaker 5: the best player available. I like the two Georgia guys
- 13:19Speaker 5: that Evan and Mike have been talking to me about
- 13:21Speaker 5: for weeks now, the two Front seven guys from Georgia.
- 13:25Speaker 5: I like the idea of continuing to fish in that
- 13:28Speaker 5: well of Georgia defensive players that almost all of them
- 13:31Speaker 5: have panned out, you know, not all of them, but
- 13:34Speaker 5: almost all of them have panned out in the NFL.
- 13:36Speaker 5: That's a good defense. And those guys seem ready to
- 13:39Speaker 5: play right away. So Williams and Walker. I'd be interested
- 13:44Speaker 5: in either one of those two guys.
- 13:46Speaker 3: For sure. It's funny how the mock drafts go in waves.
- 13:49Speaker 3: I came back from the Combine and felt like no
- 13:51Speaker 3: hope for Carter or Hunter. But now I feel like
- 13:54Speaker 3: I have a little.
- 13:55Speaker 5: Well, everybody's you know, everybody's mock draft has one of
- 13:57Speaker 5: those guys to the Patriots.
- 13:59Speaker 3: Now, Yeah, which one would you want?
- 14:02Speaker 2: Our lads had a mock draft that came out yesterday.
- 14:06Speaker 2: They had us taking Abdull Carter at four.
- 14:10Speaker 5: I've seen a lot of those, Yeah, GRT today, Buddy
- 14:14Speaker 5: Mike Giardi, Boston Sports Journal had Abdua Carter.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Oh no, no, wait, wait, made me get it wrong.
- 14:19Speaker 2: They had us taking Will Campbell at four and Abdul
- 14:22Speaker 2: Carter was available, and he was taken at five.
- 14:24Speaker 4: That's all.
- 14:25Speaker 5: I don't see that happening. But I don't see Abdul
- 14:28Speaker 5: Carter being available after, you know, at four either, And
- 14:32Speaker 5: I've seen a lot of people. Yeah, I don't know
- 14:34Speaker 5: how you can pass up on Carter or Hunter if
- 14:36Speaker 5: you're the Patriots, can I agree?
- 14:39Speaker 2: Really any team if you're not picking a quarterback, right,
- 14:42Speaker 2: that's the problem.
- 14:43Speaker 5: But the first three all could take a quarterback, and
- 14:45Speaker 5: I could understand them passing up on one of those
- 14:47Speaker 5: two guys. I wouldn't if I were them, but I couldn't.
- 14:51Speaker 5: You know, Tennessee, Cleveland and the Giants none of them
- 14:54Speaker 5: has a starting quarterback.
- 14:55Speaker 4: The Titians are drafting camp Woard, right, Yeah, I mean
- 14:58Speaker 4: the video is that came from his pro day yesterday
- 15:01Speaker 4: of him with Calahan and there in the GM there
- 15:04Speaker 4: in Tennessee. I mean they were they're chopping it up,
- 15:07Speaker 4: I guess, but again, could smoke screen, you don't know.
- 15:11Speaker 4: I mean they they've spent all a free agency rebuilding
- 15:14Speaker 4: their offensive line and now they are chumming up with
- 15:18Speaker 4: him at the pro day. I just can't.
- 15:20Speaker 2: I mean, but maybe they want the world to think
- 15:22Speaker 2: that they're taking him and then they get.
- 15:25Speaker 4: The King's Ransom, and you know, maybe, I don't know.
- 15:28Speaker 4: When you have the number one overall pick like these
- 15:30Speaker 4: things are, usually you have control of the draft, so
- 15:33Speaker 4: there's no reason.
- 15:34Speaker 2: I don't know. I think there's a big difference between
- 15:35Speaker 2: Caleb Williams and cam Ward.
- 15:38Speaker 5: Oh, I agree, But that's why I wouldn't take him.
- 15:41Speaker 4: Right, I think that the I think it's a done deal.
- 15:43Speaker 5: Okay, I hope so I think Evan's right, but I
- 15:45Speaker 5: wouldn't take But that.
- 15:46Speaker 4: Doesn't mean anything like that because the Patriots still needs
- 15:49Speaker 4: to door Sanders to go in the top two. Right,
- 15:51Speaker 4: So it's really you know that that's all well and good,
- 15:53Speaker 4: But cam Ward's going in the top three. That's a lock.
- 15:56Speaker 4: It's if two quarterbacks are going to go in the
- 15:58Speaker 4: top three.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Is the question somebody was speculating. Is Jalen Milroe moving up?
- 16:05Speaker 4: Yeah, maybe the second round, bottom.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Of the few.
- 16:08Speaker 5: His forty time was special, yeah, and that's a special
- 16:13Speaker 5: ability as a running quarterback. I was talking to my
- 16:17Speaker 5: brother about this, and you know, I always work things
- 16:18Speaker 5: out with Rich at a time. You know, I have
- 16:20Speaker 5: my pre show with Rich and he was like, you know,
- 16:24Speaker 5: if you had told me that Jalen Hurts would be
- 16:26Speaker 5: as good an NFL passer as he's been, Not that
- 16:28Speaker 5: he's a great passer in the NFL, but as good
- 16:31Speaker 5: as he has been, I would have never believed you.
- 16:33Speaker 5: So who's to say that Jalen Milroe can't develop into
- 16:36Speaker 5: at least a serviceable passer to go along with what
- 16:39Speaker 5: is obviously special ability to run.
- 16:41Speaker 4: Right, he's a stronger arm.
- 16:43Speaker 2: If Kyle needed a quarterback right now, who do you
- 16:46Speaker 2: think he'd have his eye on?
- 16:48Speaker 4: Will Howard really something like that? Yeah, I mean I
- 16:54Speaker 4: don't know. Maybe he'd like Schador a little bit too.
- 16:56Speaker 4: But he's looking for somebody that's gonna press the right
- 16:59Speaker 4: button the controller. He's not looking for somebody that colors
- 17:02Speaker 4: outside the lines. Okay, you run my system, you know
- 17:05Speaker 4: this is my offense. You run my system.
- 17:08Speaker 2: But I thought his system was very quarterback friendly.
- 17:11Speaker 4: Yeah, because it's so easy for the quarterback to make
- 17:13Speaker 4: decisions from the pocket in the system. So you don't
- 17:16Speaker 4: necessarily need the quarterback to drive the bus. You need
- 17:19Speaker 4: the quarterback to just Jalen Milroe not screwed up. I
- 17:23Speaker 4: don't think that would be his type.
- 17:25Speaker 2: Note.
- 17:25Speaker 5: No, well he just got my he did take Trey Lance. No,
- 17:29Speaker 5: you're gonna blame this on that.
- 17:30Speaker 4: No, we didn't.
- 17:31Speaker 5: Okay, that was that was Paul throwing a grenade. Yeah, okay,
- 17:35Speaker 5: I knew that was I knew that was coming. Okay, Paul,
- 17:38Speaker 5: see that's scoffing. Look, I knew that was coming.
- 17:39Speaker 3: Just going back to that report from Karen, I just
- 17:41Speaker 3: I wonder if they got so maniacally focused on receiver
- 17:46Speaker 3: and tackle after May that it just they were so
- 17:49Speaker 3: glad you focused on those two guys, you know, and
- 17:51Speaker 3: we all were too.
- 17:52Speaker 5: So can I ask a question and if you guys
- 17:55Speaker 5: disagree with me, feel free we can talk about it
- 17:57Speaker 5: at fifteen minutes, and you know I'll end up in
- 17:59Speaker 5: an argument with Fred out something random. I think you
- 18:03Speaker 5: can draft for need and draft the best player at
- 18:07Speaker 5: the same time. I don't think the problem was the
- 18:11Speaker 5: positions they targeted. The problem was the player they took.
- 18:15Speaker 5: If they had drafted Lad McConkie, would people be saying
- 18:18Speaker 5: that's what happens when you draft for need. They needed
- 18:22Speaker 5: a wide receiver and wide receivers were in that area.
- 18:24Speaker 5: He took the wrong.
- 18:25Speaker 2: One, right, Nobody complained about the position.
- 18:28Speaker 5: No, But now it's we had a bad draft because
- 18:31Speaker 5: we focus too much. It's an excuse. It's an excuse
- 18:34Speaker 5: for a bad draft. They didn't draft just because of
- 18:37Speaker 5: need and get the wrong guys. They drafted the wrong guys.
- 18:41Speaker 5: There were tackles available that they could have moved up
- 18:43Speaker 5: into the bottom of the first round. They chose not
- 18:45Speaker 5: to do it. Okay, take a wide receiver, you also
- 18:48Speaker 5: need a wide receiver. You took the wrong one. This
- 18:52Speaker 5: isn't about need versus best player available. It's about bad evaluation.
- 18:56Speaker 5: That's not the same thing.
- 18:58Speaker 2: It's not the same thing.
- 19:01Speaker 5: I thought we could get an argument out of that.
- 19:03Speaker 2: He's trying to convince us that the urgency to get
- 19:06Speaker 2: the need led to included them from looking at other
- 19:10Speaker 2: guys who correct.
- 19:12Speaker 5: I think it's an excuse because if they had drafted
- 19:15Speaker 5: Lad McConkey, I don't think any of us would be
- 19:17Speaker 5: saying that's what happens when you draft for need. Fred
- 19:21Speaker 5: was all over Lad mcconakie a year ahead of.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Time, years ago, years ago, child.
- 19:26Speaker 5: Right, But I mean he was almost as high on
- 19:29Speaker 5: Slade Bolden.
- 19:30Speaker 3: Makes me think about Will Campbell though, as Will Campbell
- 19:34Speaker 3: the need is he the best player available?
- 19:36Speaker 9: Though?
- 19:37Speaker 3: Yeah, like that you kind of make that same decision again,
- 19:40Speaker 3: I feel.
- 19:40Speaker 5: And I would say, if you drafted Will Campbell, that's
- 19:44Speaker 5: a pick for need. If he works out, he works out,
- 19:47Speaker 5: but if he doesn't, it's not like you picked the
- 19:50Speaker 5: wrong tackle. He's the best tackle on the board. Right,
- 19:54Speaker 5: everybody agrees that he's the best player at that passion,
- 19:57Speaker 5: whether or not he can play tackle with the NFL.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Right if Tyler Warren, if Mason Graham are on the board,
- 20:05Speaker 2: and you pick Campbell.
- 20:07Speaker 5: That's a pick for need. I think so, And it
- 20:10Speaker 5: doesn't need to be wrong, right, Like I could give
- 20:12Speaker 5: you a million examples of the Patriots picking for need
- 20:15Speaker 5: and having it be a slam.
- 20:16Speaker 4: So why is it a pick for need? Like I
- 20:18Speaker 4: think if you ask ten different people Carter and Hunter
- 20:22Speaker 4: are off the board who you're taking at for, you
- 20:24Speaker 4: get ten different answers in a draft like this. So
- 20:26Speaker 4: there's a very good case for Will Campbell being the
- 20:28Speaker 4: best player available better than Mason Graham or Tyler Warren.
- 20:32Speaker 5: Could you could make that and I wouldn't, but you could.
- 20:35Speaker 4: In this draft. I think that you could.
- 20:36Speaker 2: But you need to isolate it because a lot of
- 20:38Speaker 2: times people are giving you that answer based on who's
- 20:40Speaker 2: picking fourth. You need to just say, if Hunt, if
- 20:44Speaker 2: Carter and Hunter, uh what's his name? Hunter are off
- 20:49Speaker 2: the board, who's the best player, who's the third best
- 20:52Speaker 2: player in this draft?
- 20:53Speaker 4: Well most people would say gent okay, But like the
- 20:56Speaker 4: point is that.
- 20:57Speaker 5: That's that's but Evan's point is you could ask ten
- 21:00Speaker 5: people that question and get eight different answers.
- 21:03Speaker 2: I know, but it is Will Campbell one of those
- 21:04Speaker 2: eight in Yeah, probably Will Campbell's That's what I'm trying
- 21:07Speaker 2: to Mason Graham, Ted McMillan, you know, Tyler Warren, the
- 21:12Speaker 2: two Georgia guys.
- 21:14Speaker 4: If anybody said any of those guys were the next
- 21:16Speaker 4: best player in the draft, I wouldn't necessarily argue with them.
- 21:19Speaker 5: That's why I don't. I think when people say that's
- 21:23Speaker 5: what happens when teams draft for need, it's always a negative.
- 21:26Speaker 5: And I don't think it's a negative all the time.
- 21:29Speaker 5: I think it always comes down to evaluation. You need
- 21:31Speaker 5: to get good players, if you know, I think a
- 21:34Speaker 5: pick that you could argue was a bad pick based
- 21:37Speaker 5: on need was Cole Strange for Bill Belichick. They needed
- 21:41Speaker 5: a guard, and you reach for a guard in the
- 21:43Speaker 5: first round. It's a position that's not generally taken in
- 21:46Speaker 5: the first round. And it was a guy, and it
- 21:49Speaker 5: was a guy that wasn't really slated to go in
- 21:51Speaker 5: the first round.
- 21:52Speaker 2: There's no doubt they needed it.
- 21:54Speaker 5: But i'll give you, you know, go back several years,
- 21:57Speaker 5: go back twenty plus years. They could not stop the
- 22:00Speaker 5: in two thousand and two. It ultimately was the reason
- 22:02Speaker 5: why they couldn't go back to back. They could not
- 22:05Speaker 5: stop anybody from running the ball. They needed to get
- 22:08Speaker 5: some bulk up front. They draft Ty Warren. That is
- 22:11Speaker 5: a need pick. It's a good pick because you needed it,
- 22:16Speaker 5: and he was a good player. If he ended up
- 22:18Speaker 5: being a defensive lineman like Dominic Easley, Ron Brace, Ron
- 22:24Speaker 5: Brace is a better compet because he's more of a
- 22:26Speaker 5: run stuffing defensive lineman who wasn't all that good. Then
- 22:30Speaker 5: everybody's saying, well, that's what happens when you know, it's
- 22:33Speaker 5: all about evaluation regardless of the positions you take. And
- 22:38Speaker 5: I just feel like we get lost in.
- 22:40Speaker 2: The Harry the position was fine.
- 22:45Speaker 5: If they had drafted DK Metcalf or Terry McLaurin or
- 22:49Speaker 5: AJ Brown, any of those wide receivers that were far
- 22:54Speaker 5: better than him. After that, no one would have said,
- 22:56Speaker 5: that's what happens when your draft for need.
- 22:58Speaker 3: Vega's position with this is quiquarterback. Though to me, we're
- 23:01Speaker 3: talking about cam Ward.
- 23:03Speaker 7: Is he the best player available at one overall? And
- 23:05Speaker 7: that's a position.
- 23:05Speaker 5: Quarterback is the exception. Right quarterback is the exception that
- 23:09Speaker 5: when you almost always when you take a quarterback, it's
- 23:13Speaker 5: a pick.
- 23:14Speaker 4: I just feel like this is like, you know, this
- 23:16Speaker 4: gets back to you have to have a role that
- 23:20Speaker 4: you envision for a player when you take four over
- 23:23Speaker 4: a guy four overall, that he's going to be able
- 23:25Speaker 4: to blossom into a franchise cornerstone type player with a
- 23:29Speaker 4: pick that high. And if you have guys that are
- 23:32Speaker 4: already you know, talk about tight end with Tyler Warren.
- 23:36Speaker 4: Is Tyler Warren a better tight end than Hunter Henry?
- 23:38Speaker 4: He might be, but they have players that are veteran
- 23:42Speaker 4: players ahead of him on that depth chart that now
- 23:45Speaker 4: all of a sudden, that becomes a very crowded room.
- 23:47Speaker 4: And how do you sort those types of things out.
- 23:49Speaker 4: So I think that people misconstrue that as need but
- 23:53Speaker 4: to me, it's what's the vision of the player? How
- 23:55Speaker 4: does he fit into the football team?
- 23:57Speaker 2: You know, how does And that was very prevalent during
- 24:00Speaker 2: the Belichick years because, let's face it, they had a
- 24:03Speaker 2: lot of really good veterans knew how to win fit
- 24:07Speaker 2: with what Belichick wanted to do, and so a lot
- 24:09Speaker 2: of his picks were based on that, Like, I could
- 24:12Speaker 2: pick him, but he's not going to make the team anyway,
- 24:14Speaker 2: so I might as well just go get this guy.
- 24:16Speaker 2: I think you saw a lot of that during Belichick's years.
- 24:19Speaker 4: You just don't want to have redundancies across the roster.
- 24:22Speaker 4: Like if you take Mason Graham, he might be the
- 24:23Speaker 4: best player available, but now you have two two hundred
- 24:26Speaker 4: and ninety five pound interior rushers, and so how are
- 24:29Speaker 4: you going to play Mason Graham and Milton Williams off
- 24:32Speaker 4: of each other on first and second down? And does
- 24:34Speaker 4: that mean that Mason Graham isn't going to play as much?
- 24:36Speaker 4: So now that you wasted the fourth overall pick on
- 24:39Speaker 4: a rotational pass rusher, like that's not what you want
- 24:41Speaker 4: out of that pick either, So you just have to
- 24:43Speaker 4: have a plan of how are we going to use
- 24:46Speaker 4: this player in a high volume capacity that's going to
- 24:49Speaker 4: get the most out of the pick.
- 24:50Speaker 2: You have to stack your board vertically and vertically.
- 24:54Speaker 4: Yes, because it's just easier to talk about this.
- 24:56Speaker 5: This part of the draft I could talk about forever,
- 25:00Speaker 5: just sort of trying to weigh the pros and cons
- 25:04Speaker 5: of concepts as opposed to thirty three or thirty two
- 25:09Speaker 5: inch arms. You know what I mean, what benefits you
- 25:14Speaker 5: the most both in the short and long term, and.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Bill long benefits us.
- 25:19Speaker 5: The right to your point, Bill often drafted with the
- 25:22Speaker 5: long term in mind. You know, we have you know,
- 25:26Speaker 5: Keith Trayler replacing Ted Washington at nose tackle. We don't
- 25:29Speaker 5: have an immediate need there, but Vince Wilfork is available
- 25:32Speaker 5: at twenty one. Long term, that's going to be a
- 25:34Speaker 5: really good pick for us. Right, they didn't have to
- 25:37Speaker 5: have that at the time, but recognition of the talent
- 25:42Speaker 5: and you could afford to do that the spot that
- 25:45Speaker 5: you're in, Right, that's how you draft a guy like
- 25:47Speaker 5: Gronk in the second round. There's a lot of teams
- 25:48Speaker 5: in the league that would not be able to make
- 25:50Speaker 5: that pick. A guy who did not play at all
- 25:52Speaker 5: is last year at Arizona. If you're like Joe Shane
- 25:56Speaker 5: and Brian Dable right now, you can't make that pick.
- 25:59Speaker 5: You can't because you can't make that risk. Then you're
- 26:02Speaker 5: going to draft a guy and get nothing out of
- 26:03Speaker 5: him his rookie year.
- 26:04Speaker 3: He can barely draft Sanders right now. Right with the
- 26:06Speaker 3: hot seat, there.
- 26:07Speaker 5: Are so there's a lot of I could talk about
- 26:09Speaker 5: that kind of aspect of the draft forever. That's what
- 26:11Speaker 5: I like about the first round draft show the most,
- 26:14Speaker 5: is sort of identifying what the teams might be thinking.
- 26:18Speaker 3: I find myself going back though, thinking about Bill's old
- 26:20Speaker 3: scouting methods, which you know, I know Elliott Will said
- 26:23Speaker 3: they changed last year, have been in process of changing,
- 26:26Speaker 3: but I remember Bill's scouting system was very specific to
- 26:29Speaker 3: the team and how the player would fit in and
- 26:31Speaker 3: exactly what role they would pill and what and how
- 26:34Speaker 3: they would stack up, which to me sounds like common
- 26:37Speaker 3: sense way to approach it. But I know that there
- 26:38Speaker 3: are different ways to do it, and I'm.
- 26:40Speaker 5: And somehow that's been deemed to be a negative.
- 26:42Speaker 10: I agree.
- 26:43Speaker 3: You know, what do you get getting away from that?
- 26:45Speaker 3: What are you getting to like?
- 26:46Speaker 7: How are you reevaluate?
- 26:48Speaker 3: I think you'd want to get to a place where
- 26:50Speaker 3: you're not really thinking about the need anymore.
- 26:51Speaker 2: What you think?
- 26:56Speaker 5: I like the way Mike is talking there and going
- 26:58Speaker 5: back to what Evan. You know, we led the show
- 27:00Speaker 5: up when everyone was explaining to me about the different
- 27:03Speaker 5: linebackers that Rabel might necessarily gravitate to it. Right, doesn't
- 27:08Speaker 5: that make sense that, well, I don't need a Brandon
- 27:11Speaker 5: Spikes kind of guy because Rabel doesn't really want those
- 27:14Speaker 5: kinds of guys. Isn't that like the essence of scouting
- 27:18Speaker 5: for a team? Right?
- 27:19Speaker 4: And you'd also you don't want to give Brandon Spikes
- 27:22Speaker 4: to a coach that doesn't want to coach him.
- 27:24Speaker 2: The way that gets to the whole conversation of whoever
- 27:27Speaker 2: the GM is knowing what the coach wants and scouting
- 27:32Speaker 2: toward you know what he.
- 27:34Speaker 4: Wants, right, And that's why you know to go back
- 27:37Speaker 4: to the best player available thing. All thirty two teams
- 27:40Speaker 4: have different boards because they're looking for different things. They're
- 27:43Speaker 4: looking for different skill sets, they're looking for different scheme
- 27:47Speaker 4: fits and different types of you know, attitudes and things
- 27:50Speaker 4: like that. So you can sit there and say that
- 27:52Speaker 4: you think in a vacuum that Mason Graham is a
- 27:56Speaker 4: better player than Will Campbell, or Will Campbell's a better
- 27:59Speaker 4: player or whatever. But it's very team specific when you
- 28:03Speaker 4: really get down to it. So you can't give Josh
- 28:05Speaker 4: McDaniels a receiver that doesn't fit the offense that he
- 28:09Speaker 4: wants to run. Now, if it's Calvin Johnson, he fits
- 28:13Speaker 4: every offense. But when we're talking about, you know, the
- 28:17Speaker 4: rudimentary receivers, you have to give him guys that he
- 28:20Speaker 4: is going to be able to unlock and use properly.
- 28:23Speaker 4: So when I just don't think that best player available
- 28:26Speaker 4: is kind of a myth because it depends on the
- 28:30Speaker 4: you know, the beauty is in the behind eye of
- 28:31Speaker 4: the beholder.
- 28:32Speaker 5: Well you can also say, no matter who you pick, well,
- 28:35Speaker 5: he was the best player in my eyes.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Right right right, doing what's in the best interest of
- 28:39Speaker 2: the team.
- 28:40Speaker 5: And when you go to the whole system thing, and
- 28:42Speaker 5: I agree with Evan again on that, you know, there's
- 28:45Speaker 5: certain guys that might fit better in certain systems. Now,
- 28:49Speaker 5: I think it's smart to go in that direction, but
- 28:51Speaker 5: it's also important, you know, and I think it's worthy
- 28:55Speaker 5: of criticism if like Bill Belichick's sort of at the end,
- 28:59Speaker 5: I think was kind of so set in his ways
- 29:02Speaker 5: that he was unbending to change the system, especially defensively,
- 29:07Speaker 5: that he was only interested in a certain amount of
- 29:09Speaker 5: guys and they were becoming harder and harder to identify
- 29:11Speaker 5: and find and put into, you know, put into his system.
- 29:15Speaker 5: So you can make a criticism, like to use Evans
- 29:18Speaker 5: example of Josh's type of receiver, You can criticize Josh
- 29:22Speaker 5: for saying, well, yeah, if you had Calvin Johnson, you
- 29:25Speaker 5: should be able to find a way, even though he's
- 29:27Speaker 5: not really you'll kind of receive it out. You should
- 29:29Speaker 5: be able to identify the talent and be able to
- 29:31Speaker 5: work it. If your system is so unbending that it
- 29:34Speaker 5: doesn't utilize.
- 29:36Speaker 2: Then the problems your system correct the player.
- 29:38Speaker 5: That's a fair criticism, But I think teams should absolutely
- 29:43Speaker 5: stack boards with their type of player in mind, sure
- 29:47Speaker 5: that they think fits best in their system. Penetrating defensive
- 29:50Speaker 5: lineman now evidently as opposed to two gapping run stuffers.
- 29:54Speaker 4: Right, do you want to tackle that's better in a
- 29:57Speaker 4: downhill run scheme? Do you want his own blocking tackle?
- 29:59Speaker 4: Do you want running back that's going to be in
- 30:01Speaker 4: a spread offense. Do you want a battering ram running back?
- 30:03Speaker 11: Like?
- 30:04Speaker 12: It?
- 30:04Speaker 4: Just all across the board, just depends on what you're
- 30:07Speaker 4: trying to accomplish as a team.
- 30:09Speaker 2: Another thing I want to bring up, and I'm seeing
- 30:12Speaker 2: on one of Paul's shows, they're talking about this thing
- 30:15Speaker 2: Brady came out with yesterday about why he left the
- 30:18Speaker 2: Patriots and that the split between him and Belichick was inevitable.
- 30:23Speaker 2: What did you think about that?
- 30:24Speaker 3: I didn't actually get to see it that I was
- 30:26Speaker 3: just catching up here on I didn't rate it. No,
- 30:28Speaker 3: I didn't see it yesterday.
- 30:29Speaker 5: Yeah, I saw it, Fred, Yeah, I did show Prepp.
- 30:31Speaker 3: You're doing your show prep with your brother. You talked
- 30:33Speaker 3: about it.
- 30:34Speaker 5: I didn't do that. That didn't come up in show prep.
- 30:35Speaker 5: That was this morning. I didn't see that. Yeah, he
- 30:37Speaker 5: was talking about that the Twitter machine.
- 30:39Speaker 2: It was really two part A little it was why
- 30:41Speaker 2: he left and why he picked Tampa Bay. But the
- 30:43Speaker 2: first part I thought was the most interesting to me
- 30:47Speaker 2: is he was saying that I had to leave. I
- 30:51Speaker 2: had to leave, that we had grown so far apart
- 30:54Speaker 2: he and Belichick, that it was just inevitable.
- 30:56Speaker 5: I had to go the last two or three years.
- 30:59Speaker 2: Yeah, it was kind of I just thought that was
- 31:00Speaker 2: curious that he's coming out with that five year anniversaries.
- 31:04Speaker 5: So I think it's really curious. Yes, I think it's
- 31:06Speaker 5: really curious that he seems to continue these kinds of
- 31:12Speaker 5: things unprovoked. Yeah, and I wonder why, I mean, is
- 31:16Speaker 5: he I don't know. I also thought he had this
- 31:20Speaker 5: whole thing of he ranked about twenty different things, and
- 31:25Speaker 5: you know about why he left the scale to one
- 31:27Speaker 5: to three of you know, the pros and cons of
- 31:29Speaker 5: staying and going and you know, practice weather was important,
- 31:35Speaker 5: game weather was important. He had those separated. You know,
- 31:38Speaker 5: the game weather was only a two, but practice weather
- 31:41Speaker 5: is a three. Targets you know, the weapons that he had,
- 31:44Speaker 5: you know, with with Evans and Godwin, he considered that
- 31:47Speaker 5: a three. Arians he considered the three, you know, even
- 31:52Speaker 5: though he ended up coaching the team. But this is
- 31:55Speaker 5: where you know, and the Tom Brady's like, you know,
- 31:59Speaker 5: I'm not like my I don't have this deep sort
- 32:02Speaker 5: of under underlying, you know, lack of appreciation for Tom Brady. Money.
- 32:10Speaker 2: Yeah, money wasn't.
- 32:11Speaker 5: Money wasn't. Money wasn't that wasn't really in the top ten.
- 32:14Speaker 2: That is such bold, That is such bold that that's
- 32:18Speaker 2: kind of what started why he wanted to leave here.
- 32:21Speaker 5: He correct, he was being respect wasn't appreciated. Why people
- 32:25Speaker 5: like Mike push him out of town?
- 32:26Speaker 2: Right?
- 32:27Speaker 5: Mike, you didn't you get the same impression when you
- 32:32Speaker 5: read that, like, oh, money wasn't money wasn't important? Really, Tom,
- 32:36Speaker 5: go ask mister Go ask mister Kraft.
- 32:38Speaker 2: He'll clarify and he'll say, well, the money wasn't important
- 32:40Speaker 2: to where I was going. But come on, if it
- 32:43Speaker 2: was important here, why wouldn't it be important?
- 32:45Speaker 5: So it was important, And I'm not blaming him for
- 32:47Speaker 5: it being important. I'm blaming him for not admitting it
- 32:50Speaker 5: was important.
- 32:51Speaker 4: Are we going to be like twenty years from now
- 32:52Speaker 4: and we're still doing like and have Brady talking about
- 32:55Speaker 4: him leaving the Patriots? How many more times do we
- 32:57Speaker 4: have to do?
- 32:57Speaker 5: But I think Brady's doing this.
- 32:59Speaker 4: I'm not blaming anybody.
- 33:01Speaker 3: You keep bringing it up.
- 33:02Speaker 4: I have no interest, but.
- 33:04Speaker 5: I would just I kind of would Evan on this,
- 33:06Speaker 5: But I don't really understand. Is he that needy that
- 33:10Speaker 5: he needs to like sort of inject himself into the
- 33:12Speaker 5: limelight at all times? It's weird to me, And that
- 33:16Speaker 5: was weird there.
- 33:17Speaker 4: I'm just going like I kind of know the story,
- 33:19Speaker 4: like we we've heard it, we know, we get it.
- 33:22Speaker 4: It's been five years wounds, so you can move.
- 33:25Speaker 5: I don't have any of that. I just find it
- 33:27Speaker 5: odd that he continues to talk about himself that way.
- 33:33Speaker 2: Oh yeah, all right, I just thought i'd bring that up. Okay,
- 33:37Speaker 2: anything else the listeners a little quiet?
- 33:42Speaker 4: It a cool day yesterday BC. Yeah, is at Boston
- 33:47Speaker 4: College yesterday. Patriots Palooza is what I would call it.
- 33:51Speaker 4: That Mike Rabel was there, Elliot Wolf, Ryan Cowed and
- 33:54Speaker 4: how many other teams all thirty two teams are represented?
- 33:57Speaker 4: Oh really yeah not Brable was the only head coach.
- 34:01Speaker 4: But you know, some cool moments with Bill O'Brien and
- 34:04Speaker 4: obviously with Rabel being tight with him and Maron too.
- 34:07Speaker 4: Maroon's really tight.
- 34:08Speaker 2: With other teams. Who was the big attraction?
- 34:13Speaker 4: Well, Aserko didn't do anything, So I would say the
- 34:17Speaker 4: alignment Trapillo and Kendel their centers, Draftable center as well.
- 34:23Speaker 4: So yeah, the Donovan Azeruku, who's their pass rusher, is
- 34:27Speaker 4: going to go first round?
- 34:28Speaker 2: Uh?
- 34:28Speaker 4: He he did the Senior Bowl, he did the combine,
- 34:31Speaker 4: so he just he just sat out the Day. But
- 34:34Speaker 4: I thought what O'Brien said was interesting was a lot
- 34:37Speaker 4: of the the reason why teams come to things like
- 34:39Speaker 4: pro days is actually what happens before and after the
- 34:42Speaker 4: Pro Day. They take them out to dinner, you know,
- 34:44Speaker 4: they they kind of get him in a social setting,
- 34:46Speaker 4: see what the kid's all about, that sort of thing.
- 34:49Speaker 4: So I wouldn't be surprised if you know, Azeruko had
- 34:52Speaker 4: a lot of meetings with teams even though he didn't
- 34:54Speaker 4: work out at the Pro Day. But how many teams
- 34:57Speaker 4: would you say with the all thirty two were repres okay,
- 35:01Speaker 4: but you know sometimes you just sent scouts, you know,
- 35:04Speaker 4: not necessarily gms.
- 35:05Speaker 2: But that's good for BC.
- 35:07Speaker 5: Yeah, and it was good.
- 35:08Speaker 4: I think this connection between the BC and the Patriots,
- 35:13Speaker 4: now that Rabel and O'Brien are the two head coaches,
- 35:15Speaker 4: I don't think this is going away. I think this
- 35:17Speaker 4: will be something that they'll they'll do a lot of
- 35:19Speaker 4: Rabel talked to the team, address the team before the
- 35:23Speaker 4: Pro Day began on Monday morning.
- 35:25Speaker 2: So when you went to the.
- 35:26Speaker 3: Z Flowers one a couple of years ago, BC, how
- 35:28Speaker 3: different was it this year?
- 35:30Speaker 4: I'd say there's more people this year, certainly more media
- 35:33Speaker 4: covering it, but it was a little bit more people
- 35:37Speaker 4: this year, which I found surprising because it's a wide
- 35:39Speaker 4: receiver and you know, usually there's some value to watching
- 35:43Speaker 4: those guys run routes in person and things like that.
- 35:45Speaker 4: But you know, just in comparison, when I went to
- 35:49Speaker 4: for Day Flowers, the highest ranking person for the Patriots
- 35:52Speaker 4: was Cameron Williams, the college scouting director. This one, all
- 35:56Speaker 4: three top decision makers were were in attendance, so they
- 36:01Speaker 4: definitely tried to show it. I think a little bit
- 36:03Speaker 4: for O'Brien, I think they'd try to do him a
- 36:05Speaker 4: solid as well. But it was cool.
- 36:08Speaker 3: It was interesting the instadrat to me, I went to
- 36:11Speaker 3: the Holy Cross one smaller, but those low level scouts
- 36:16Speaker 3: from other teams, just what a grind it is for them.
- 36:19Speaker 3: It seems like they are just doing this like pro
- 36:21Speaker 3: day to pro day timing, measuring, setting up stuff, taking
- 36:26Speaker 3: stuff down. It's just you got a little glimpse into
- 36:29Speaker 3: the grind of you know, we kind of sit up
- 36:31Speaker 3: in our ivory tower or you are scouting and you know,
- 36:33Speaker 3: but like it's like you don't have to go out
- 36:34Speaker 3: to some random school in the middle of nowhere and
- 36:38Speaker 3: time fifteen guys, fourteen of whom probably have no chance
- 36:41Speaker 3: of even making it now.
- 36:42Speaker 5: Were there any other prospects there yesterday other than BC players.
- 36:46Speaker 4: Yeah, there are some local guys that were there, and
- 36:49Speaker 4: they're a quarterback who is gonna be draft eligible. I
- 36:53Speaker 4: believe next year. He threw to the receivers, which happens
- 36:57Speaker 4: a lot, so they it's kind of like an early
- 36:59Speaker 4: show case for him, and he threw pretty well. I
- 37:02Speaker 4: have to say, I think he's in a quarterback competition
- 37:05Speaker 4: right now at the kid that transferred from Alabama, but
- 37:08Speaker 4: it sounds like he's gonna win it, and he can
- 37:11Speaker 4: he can spin it.
- 37:11Speaker 5: A little bit interesting to see what BC does next year,
- 37:15Speaker 5: you know, year or two of O'Bryan. They get their
- 37:17Speaker 5: program in, get their kind of some of their kind
- 37:20Speaker 5: of personnel, and especially the sill last year, yeah they did,
- 37:23Speaker 5: they had, I mean, they had a pretty good quarterback problem.
- 37:26Speaker 4: Yeah, but the quarterback last year was more of like
- 37:28Speaker 4: a dual threat as a runner.
- 37:29Speaker 5: He was a runner.
- 37:30Speaker 4: This kid can throw it, Yeah, he can throw it
- 37:32Speaker 4: from the pocket.
- 37:32Speaker 2: So okay, all right, let's get to the phones. The
- 37:36Speaker 2: hot line is eight five to five pasts five hundred
- 37:40Speaker 2: we'll go to Randy in Providence. What's up Randy here?
- 37:44Speaker 2: You guys, how's it going good.
- 37:47Speaker 11: I just wanted a couple of, like, I guess comments,
- 37:49Speaker 11: slash questions drafts related and then kind of get you guys'
- 37:53Speaker 11: reactions and answers afterwards. You guys were talking about the
- 37:56Speaker 11: length concerns with Campbell, and I felt like you were
- 37:59Speaker 11: kind of like almost pulling it, like like quarters of
- 38:01Speaker 11: an inch and so forth. And I think, you know,
- 38:04Speaker 11: recently we saw that again in the Super Bowl where
- 38:07Speaker 11: it's you know, Joe Touney is just getting dominated a
- 38:10Speaker 11: left tackle because he's not a left tackle because of
- 38:13Speaker 11: the length concerns. And I do think throughout the season
- 38:15Speaker 11: there are a number of scouts posting and like discord
- 38:19Speaker 11: groups and a couple on YouTube channels of their own
- 38:22Speaker 11: that we're concerned about Will Campbell's length and his ability
- 38:25Speaker 11: to deal with faster edge rushers due to those length concerns.
- 38:29Speaker 11: Similar Calvin Banks junior, they had a footwear concerns about
- 38:33Speaker 11: whether he'd be a better guard or tackle. And then,
- 38:37Speaker 11: like you guys were talking about the receivers for us
- 38:39Speaker 11: last year, I think a really good argument could be
- 38:42Speaker 11: made is it bad evaluation or bad development? You know,
- 38:46Speaker 11: giving experience of the coaching staff overall.
- 38:50Speaker 5: I would say both only because the guys that have
- 38:53Speaker 5: left here have not gone on, you know, Nikhil Harry
- 38:55Speaker 5: has not blossomed elsewhere.
- 38:57Speaker 11: Yeah, as an example, I mean just just specific to
- 38:59Speaker 11: the guy last year, like Pok and Baker specifically, like
- 39:02Speaker 11: are we out on them because they were bad picks
- 39:05Speaker 11: or were they not developed properly? But I think the
- 39:09Speaker 11: wide receiver class is like very similar to the twenty
- 39:12Speaker 11: nineteen wide receiver class, where it's like it's not a
- 39:14Speaker 11: lot of great talent at the top, and there's a
- 39:16Speaker 11: lot of good guys in the second third round that
- 39:19Speaker 11: you could get. And I wonder what do you think
- 39:21Speaker 11: specifically about a guy like Jalen Lane who's got all
- 39:24Speaker 11: those physical tools and he's kind of got a better
- 39:27Speaker 11: catch radius, bigger hands than guys like Kyle Williams or
- 39:30Speaker 11: Janalen Knowle and then maybe they get out of Miami. Ristreppa,
- 39:35Speaker 11: do you think he fell into Day three after running
- 39:38Speaker 11: that four eight three yesterday? And do you think that's
- 39:41Speaker 11: good for us in getting someone who could maybe fill
- 39:44Speaker 11: that role in like the fourth fifth round? And then
- 39:47Speaker 11: I wanted to know if you thought pretty safety was
- 39:49Speaker 11: a sneaky knee for us, maybe someone specifically like Andrew mccoubaugh.
- 39:53Speaker 11: Mike Rabel's defenses in Tennessee always had kind of ball
- 39:57Speaker 11: hawking Kevin Byern safety, And I don't know if we
- 40:01Speaker 11: have that guy right now. So that's it.
- 40:04Speaker 2: Thanks Randy lot to digest there.
- 40:07Speaker 3: Yeah, was like a four steven four eight four eight
- 40:10Speaker 3: three four eight three.
- 40:11Speaker 4: Yeah, so they armand member would beat him.
- 40:15Speaker 3: Put it to you that way, jeez, it's crazy.
- 40:18Speaker 5: Yeah, there was a lot of stuff that was really
- 40:20Speaker 5: good in that call. So I don't want this one comment,
- 40:22Speaker 5: and this is not directed, was it Randy? Yeah, because
- 40:26Speaker 5: he was he was really good with that call. Only
- 40:29Speaker 5: Patriots fans could look at a wide receiver running a
- 40:31Speaker 5: four eight as a positive for the Patriots, only Patriots fans.
- 40:35Speaker 5: Is this good because now he drops lower in the
- 40:37Speaker 5: draft and we can get or is it bad that
- 40:40Speaker 5: he ran a four to eight three coming into the league,
- 40:42Speaker 5: So that means like in two years he's running like
- 40:44Speaker 5: a five second forty.
- 40:46Speaker 3: Right.
- 40:46Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 40:47Speaker 5: You don't get faster generally unless you're like the learning
- 40:51Speaker 5: nutrition at the NFL level.
- 40:52Speaker 4: I wanted to like Ristrepo at the Senior Bowl. I
- 40:56Speaker 4: went into it being like, this is going to be
- 40:58Speaker 4: everybody does, oh WelCom in slot, and that poor kid
- 41:01Speaker 4: tried to separate on slot fades all week long and
- 41:05Speaker 4: just could not stack or like he couldn't run by anybody.
- 41:08Speaker 4: I was like, this is gonna be one of the
- 41:10Speaker 4: this is not. You know, he's a one level receiver.
- 41:13Speaker 4: You know he's gonna be quick hitters underneath. He can
- 41:16Speaker 4: run with the football after the catch, He's got good instincts,
- 41:18Speaker 4: good feel for zone coverage, all that andy.
- 41:21Speaker 5: I don't want to make it sound like that. I
- 41:22Speaker 5: would say, oh, don't waste your time. You take a
- 41:26Speaker 5: flyer on him late round six, seventh round, whatever, and
- 41:29Speaker 5: you get him. I saw his college production. I know
- 41:31Speaker 5: what he's done at Miami. He's been a good player
- 41:34Speaker 5: for them for a couple of years. So I wouldn't
- 41:36Speaker 5: say I'm out on him. I'm just saying I'm not
- 41:40Speaker 5: like longing for a slow slot receiver. I think this
- 41:44Speaker 5: team needs playmakers. If he comes in, he's just one
- 41:47Speaker 5: of those guys. He's a football player. It doesn't matter
- 41:49Speaker 5: what his time speed is.
- 41:50Speaker 4: Fine, what was his cam and all his short shuttle
- 41:54Speaker 4: also wasn't good well, So he just he just did
- 41:56Speaker 4: not test very He was a very.
- 41:57Speaker 5: Productive player at Miami, and I'm not dismissed with the
- 42:00Speaker 5: actual tape shows he caught a lot of passes for Miami.
- 42:03Speaker 5: And it wasn't just with cam Wood last year. He
- 42:06Speaker 5: was like that with quarterback issues prior to that at Miami.
- 42:11Speaker 2: All right, Alex is in DC. Hey, Alex, hey good?
- 42:16Speaker 13: What are you doing?
- 42:16Speaker 2: Good?
- 42:18Speaker 11: Good?
- 42:19Speaker 13: So I had some questions around thirty visits.
- 42:22Speaker 2: Okay, sorry you guys for a second.
- 42:26Speaker 13: Questions about thirty visits? What actually happens during a thirty visit?
- 42:30Speaker 13: Do you think Rabe'll be using them differently this year?
- 42:33Speaker 13: And why haven't more been reported for the past?
- 42:38Speaker 2: I think? Now, don't aren't these all public knowledge? Doesn't
- 42:42Speaker 2: the league publish thirty visits? No?
- 42:44Speaker 4: No, Now, I would say the main thing with all
- 42:47Speaker 4: these things is getting to know the player. Rock fell asleep,
- 42:50Speaker 4: So you're really I mean, there are some football aspects.
- 42:54Speaker 4: They'll put them in the classroom and quiz them on
- 42:57Speaker 4: their side of the ball and have the coaches come
- 42:59Speaker 4: in and put them through a test like that. There
- 43:03Speaker 4: might be an on field you know, workout that goes on.
- 43:05Speaker 4: But I would say mainly you're trying to get to
- 43:08Speaker 4: know the player a little bit better, his personality, his temperament,
- 43:12Speaker 4: the type of kid he is, you know, that court
- 43:14Speaker 4: sort of thing. And then as always, medicals like medicals
- 43:18Speaker 4: are massive. You get them in the facility, you get
- 43:21Speaker 4: your own doctors, you get them, put them through medical testing.
- 43:25Speaker 2: You know.
- 43:26Speaker 4: So a lot of thirty visits are related to this
- 43:28Speaker 4: player has an injury, and he's coming off an injury
- 43:32Speaker 4: or had a prior injury in college that was severe,
- 43:34Speaker 4: and so they wanted this kid towards a cl two
- 43:37Speaker 4: years ago, and they want to check out his knee
- 43:39Speaker 4: and make sure that his knee is in good show.
- 43:41Speaker 5: A good question though, that we haven't heard about any Yeah,
- 43:44Speaker 5: I've heard about a.
- 43:45Speaker 4: Couple of them, couple of running couples, and Ursery is
- 43:48Speaker 4: coming in for one. Reportedly a couple running backs still
- 43:51Speaker 4: and Samson oli Gordon are out there, But I haven't.
- 43:56Speaker 5: I haven't seen much. I'm with Alex, I must have
- 43:58Speaker 5: missed some of that. Maybe it was during my tournament
- 44:01Speaker 5: blackout here.
- 44:02Speaker 4: We also have to remember the big college pro days
- 44:05Speaker 4: still haven't happened yet or happening this week. So usually
- 44:08Speaker 4: those players don't go on visits until after their par.
- 44:11Speaker 2: Every team must have to tell the league who they're
- 44:15Speaker 2: having visit because you're only allowed thirty yep. So I
- 44:19Speaker 2: wonder if that that information's out there.
- 44:21Speaker 5: And that doesn't include the local guys, right right? I
- 44:25Speaker 5: don't you get free ones with those? Yeah?
- 44:27Speaker 4: I don't think that they usually get to all thirty,
- 44:30Speaker 4: Like I don't think. I don't think. I think thirty
- 44:31Speaker 4: is a lot. And I you know, we've we've kind
- 44:34Speaker 4: of taken away top thirty too, because it's not really
- 44:37Speaker 4: the top thirty players. It's usually players all across the draft.
- 44:40Speaker 5: Oh yeah, this day two and Day three guys visit
- 44:43Speaker 5: with two Just.
- 44:44Speaker 3: A question how you allocate those and guys you have
- 44:47Speaker 3: big questions on like we really feel like we need
- 44:49Speaker 3: to get But I was like the stories where they
- 44:51Speaker 3: didn't talk to me. I didn't even meet them, right,
- 44:53Speaker 3: they just like my film when they drafted me. Those
- 44:56Speaker 3: you know, those guys I feel like work out a
- 44:58Speaker 3: little bit.
- 44:58Speaker 4: Sometimes some sort of red flag with the prospect, whether
- 45:03Speaker 4: it's injury, character concerns, whatever the case may be. And
- 45:09Speaker 4: they have them in.
- 45:11Speaker 3: I was gonna say, go out of the previous color.
- 45:12Speaker 3: I don't know if I necessarily agree. The twenty nineteen
- 45:15Speaker 3: were like twenty nineteen, it felt like there was a
- 45:17Speaker 3: jumble of late first, early second receivers. I mean a
- 45:22Speaker 3: lot of guys who have gone on to success, but
- 45:25Speaker 3: see guys with traits. But I don't know that.
- 45:26Speaker 7: I don't see a lot of like this guy might.
- 45:28Speaker 3: Be a number one. Shoot, what's the one guy I'm
- 45:32Speaker 3: thinking of Arkansas No.
- 45:35Speaker 6: No.
- 45:36Speaker 3: One of those schools. I the big athletic kid that
- 45:38Speaker 3: looks Tasley the body type of a legit number one.
- 45:41Speaker 3: But I'll think of it in a second.
- 45:43Speaker 5: With Jady Niggins, I was gonna say, what's the Iowa
- 45:45Speaker 5: State guy that I like?
- 45:46Speaker 3: Please?
- 45:47Speaker 5: That's why I need Yeah, I need him. Let me
- 45:48Speaker 5: make sure you about the draft shows I do.
- 45:51Speaker 4: I do think this this wide receiver class is getting
- 45:54Speaker 4: a little bit too much hate. I don't think it's
- 45:57Speaker 4: a great class at the top, but it's a pretty
- 46:00Speaker 4: deep class. I mean there's gonna be guys as always
- 46:04Speaker 4: that you know, go second day to early day three
- 46:06Speaker 4: that I think are going to be solid NFL players,
- 46:09Speaker 4: or I think they'm going to be stars like probably not,
- 46:12Speaker 4: but I think there's a there's more depth to the
- 46:14Speaker 4: class and it's getting right out.
- 46:15Speaker 2: I'll let you know in due time.
- 46:17Speaker 5: I'll be looking forward to that.
- 46:19Speaker 2: Yet, writes in Patriots picked for need and intangibles, and
- 46:24Speaker 2: that's how they ended up with the worst roster. I'm
- 46:26Speaker 2: tired of hearing about intangibles. Talent wins games. The years
- 46:30Speaker 2: of Patriots winning with intangibles and do your job are
- 46:34Speaker 2: over and stop pretending like we're picking a running back
- 46:37Speaker 2: or tight end at fourth overall Carter Hunter and if
- 46:40Speaker 2: they're not there, you probably have to pick McMillan.
- 46:43Speaker 4: Stop pretending.
- 46:44Speaker 5: So just to be clear, nobody is suggesting picking any
- 46:47Speaker 5: position if Carter or Hunter is available. I think we
- 46:51Speaker 5: all three agree if one of those two is available,
- 46:54Speaker 5: like they're taking, they should take one of those two.
- 46:58Speaker 5: So I would never suggest taking Aston Genty over Abdul Carter. No.
- 47:03Speaker 3: And you asked earlier, Paul about Carter Hunter preferences, and
- 47:07Speaker 3: I think I've all been lockstep on Carter. That would
- 47:10Speaker 3: be my preference me too, but I feel like Hunters
- 47:13Speaker 3: give me. It's just the lack of attention on offense.
- 47:15Speaker 3: I think so far, and that's why I'm getting a
- 47:17Speaker 3: little itchy, Like I'm looking at the and really just
- 47:19Speaker 3: you know, it's a fair one edition receiver, and it's
- 47:22Speaker 3: a little because I also don't feel that they've really
- 47:26Speaker 3: added a lot on defense. They've stabilized it, they've they've
- 47:30Speaker 3: gotten the pieces in place. But for me, they need
- 47:32Speaker 3: to get the guys I've said it a couple of
- 47:34Speaker 3: times now that are gonna make the ceiling, like the
- 47:37Speaker 3: next generation of guys that Yeah, these guys Harold Lander,
- 47:40Speaker 3: he he's a stopper, he can play, he'll be good,
- 47:42Speaker 3: he'll be solid, but you need that young guy, that
- 47:44Speaker 3: young third guy to come in, you know, and really
- 47:46Speaker 3: push those guys and eventually be the go to guys there.
- 47:49Speaker 3: You know they've they've got the baseline there, but.
- 47:52Speaker 4: You're being greedy about your defense. I know I'm t's.
- 47:58Speaker 5: Critique because they have I've taken a lot of defensive
- 48:01Speaker 5: players and haven't really addressed the offense. I felt real
- 48:03Speaker 5: sunshiny yesterday on the show because they were saying, you
- 48:05Speaker 5: know what, what about the neglect on offense, And I
- 48:08Speaker 5: just said, you can have these things be true with
- 48:10Speaker 5: the same like I think the opportunity to pick guys
- 48:16Speaker 5: to phill holes presented itself on defense. I don't think
- 48:19Speaker 5: it was an orchestrated Mike Rabel's defensive coach. He's only
- 48:22Speaker 5: going to do the defense and let the offense was available.
- 48:26Speaker 5: Whatever I figured out, I don't feel there were a
- 48:28Speaker 5: lot of great options on offense that they now. They
- 48:31Speaker 5: absolutely could have gotten a wide receiver now probably wouldn't
- 48:35Speaker 5: have just been by free agency. They might have had
- 48:37Speaker 5: to get creative with the DK Metcalf or a Cooper
- 48:40Speaker 5: Cup or some you know, one of these kinds of guys,
- 48:42Speaker 5: you know, making a swinging a deal for somebody. But
- 48:47Speaker 5: the guys that were available that were the best players
- 48:50Speaker 5: in my view, were on defense, and that's what they did.
- 48:54Speaker 2: David Maine, I know that if Carter or Hunter is
- 48:56Speaker 2: available for we probably can't pass them up, but I'm
- 48:59Speaker 2: secretly hoping that they're both taken so we're forced to
- 49:02Speaker 2: take Campbell. I personally believe that protecting quarterback is more
- 49:05Speaker 2: important than having a w R one H star receiver
- 49:10Speaker 2: is worthless if Mat doesn't have time to throw him
- 49:12Speaker 2: the ball. Asked Matt Stafford and Calvin Johnson about all
- 49:16Speaker 2: their Super Bowl wins, see Paul, even if Campbell ends
- 49:19Speaker 2: up being a guard, he's like a Zach Martin.
- 49:22Speaker 5: Right, Why would you want to have a great quarterback
- 49:24Speaker 5: wide receiver combination because maybe he might not win the
- 49:28Speaker 5: Super Bowl like the thirty one other teams.
- 49:29Speaker 2: That don't Campbell like Zach Martin, still makes the line better.
- 49:33Speaker 2: And Phil Perry reported that he watched the LSU tapes
- 49:37Speaker 2: with Dante Scarnekia and Scar said the guy is a
- 49:40Speaker 2: tackle all day.
- 49:42Speaker 4: But I didn't know that Scar said that.
- 49:45Speaker 2: Well, I don't know why David Name would not.
- 49:49Speaker 4: I read the article that Phil wrote when he is
- 49:51Speaker 4: unless he said added that on a podcast. I don't
- 49:53Speaker 4: listen to everything that's.
- 49:54Speaker 3: Called burying the league.
- 49:55Speaker 4: Yeah, right, But he didn't say that. And most of
- 49:59Speaker 4: the quotes I saw from Scar about this for more
- 50:01Speaker 4: in generalities of In general, arm length is important because
- 50:05Speaker 4: of X, Y and Z and that sort of thing.
- 50:07Speaker 5: But I just would caution that it's no more true
- 50:12Speaker 5: to say that a great wide receiver and quarterback are
- 50:15Speaker 5: useless without blocking as it would be to say great
- 50:19Speaker 5: blocking is a guarantee of success without the rest. I
- 50:23Speaker 5: think there are plenty of really good tackles that toiled
- 50:26Speaker 5: in that league for a long time on bad teams.
- 50:30Speaker 5: You know, Like I just you need everything. Like the
- 50:34Speaker 5: Eagles have a great offensive line, arguably the best in
- 50:37Speaker 5: the league, if not the best. What else they got
- 50:40Speaker 5: If they didn't have anything else, would they have wonted?
- 50:42Speaker 5: But just an offensive line. They have the best roster
- 50:46Speaker 5: in the league. I mean, they have great weapons, you know,
- 50:50Speaker 5: at receiver, they have a great running back, they have
- 50:53Speaker 5: a really good quarterback, if not great, and the defense
- 50:56Speaker 5: made plays and they may play us all over the place.
- 51:00Speaker 4: I just wondered, you know, to go back to the
- 51:02Speaker 4: Carter Hunter conversation a little bit too. If you don't
- 51:07Speaker 4: address the offense, whether it's tackle or receiver, with the
- 51:11Speaker 4: first pick in the draft, I think you're punting on
- 51:15Speaker 4: that position until next year, because obviously you'll take somebody
- 51:19Speaker 4: on Day two and it's another Caden Wallace esque dart
- 51:22Speaker 4: throw and you hope for the best.
- 51:24Speaker 5: Can it be better than that? Though? I don't know
- 51:26Speaker 5: if you like guys you know.
- 51:28Speaker 4: Or if you trade back to if you trade back
- 51:31Speaker 4: up into the first round, you know, if you trade
- 51:34Speaker 4: up until you know, probably into the twenties or maybe
- 51:37Speaker 4: early thirty or earlier thirties, then maybe, but like you're
- 51:41Speaker 4: still not getting.
- 51:41Speaker 5: You're not getting it at thirty eight, is what you say, right, I.
- 51:43Speaker 4: Don't think so, and I don't think you're getting both.
- 51:45Speaker 4: Definitely not getting both. So both you can't get receiver
- 51:49Speaker 4: and tackle.
- 51:50Speaker 5: Oh no, no, no, I meant I meant like a tackle
- 51:53Speaker 5: like Matt Light. I'm thinking Matt Light. Can I get
- 51:55Speaker 5: some Can I get Matt Light in this at thirty eight?
- 52:00Speaker 5: I think, which maybe I'm not Maybe you know, I'm
- 52:02Speaker 5: not expecting mattl Like to step in as a rookie
- 52:05Speaker 5: and do what he did in two thousand and one,
- 52:06Speaker 5: which would be a starting caliber yeh tackle for them
- 52:09Speaker 5: right out of the shoot. But can you have your
- 52:11Speaker 5: tackle of the future at thirty eight?
- 52:14Speaker 4: I don't think it's tough. It all depends on when
- 52:17Speaker 4: that connorly Ersery Josh Simmons run happens like those three
- 52:21Speaker 4: guys last year.
- 52:22Speaker 5: It would have been no because last year that run
- 52:23Speaker 5: happened early correct and the Patriots weren't able to get in.
- 52:27Speaker 4: That's my fear. So Marius Mims started the run at eighteen.
- 52:30Speaker 4: Marus Mims goes Tyler Geiton goes. Those two couple of
- 52:33Speaker 4: guys go in the first end of the first round.
- 52:36Speaker 4: Once that run stops in this draft, that's big. The
- 52:40Speaker 4: cliff drops to the next group of tackles. So now
- 52:45Speaker 4: you're talking about Trapilo, who's really a right tackle. You're
- 52:49Speaker 4: talking about Anthony Belton from NC State, who's probably a
- 52:52Speaker 4: third or fourth round pick. You know, in most drafts,
- 52:54Speaker 4: like you really have that drop off to what was
- 52:57Speaker 4: last year was you know, Patrick Paul Kingsley, Sue Mattia,
- 53:01Speaker 4: Roger Rosegard, and Kayden Wallace and uh, the only one
- 53:04Speaker 4: that really played and played well was the kid in
- 53:07Speaker 4: Washington was Brandon Coleman.
- 53:09Speaker 5: And now guard wasn't bad, but he played guard. Oh
- 53:12Speaker 5: that's true.
- 53:12Speaker 4: So you know that that's that's where you're at right now.
- 53:17Speaker 4: If you don't go tackle a receiver with the first pick,
- 53:20Speaker 4: I just I don't know how you get that in
- 53:22Speaker 4: this tract.
- 53:23Speaker 5: I'm okay if you take a tackle at thirty eight. Again,
- 53:28Speaker 5: I understand everything you even just said, But if you've
- 53:30Speaker 5: got to tackle at thirty eight, I'm okay. If he's
- 53:31Speaker 5: not plug and play. I know everybody thinks that every
- 53:35Speaker 5: hole that you know, they had like literally, fifteen out
- 53:37Speaker 5: of the twenty two spots are open, and the Patriots
- 53:41Speaker 5: were expected to fill every single one of them with
- 53:43Speaker 5: a frontline player. I am not expecting that, and I'm
- 53:46Speaker 5: not going to be disappointed if they're not able to
- 53:48Speaker 5: do that. So it doesn't need to be a plug
- 53:50Speaker 5: and play left tackle, but can it be a guy
- 53:53Speaker 5: that Okay, he's going to be my left tackle. He's
- 53:56Speaker 5: not quite ready yet, but he's going to be my
- 53:58Speaker 5: left tackle. Maybe by the middle of this season he's
- 54:01Speaker 5: emerging as the starter, and you know, heading into twenty six,
- 54:05Speaker 5: that's my left tackle. I'm okay with that. A lot
- 54:08Speaker 5: of fans won't be. They're like, we've been waiting for
- 54:10Speaker 5: five years, you know, what are we doing? What? What
- 54:13Speaker 5: are they waiting for on offense? Blah blah blah blah blah.
- 54:15Speaker 5: I'm okay with that.
- 54:16Speaker 3: That goes back to need, though, and I feel like
- 54:18Speaker 3: at that point in the draft, you could get a
- 54:20Speaker 3: plug and play outside linebacker, running back like no, So
- 54:25Speaker 3: that's how you're kind of weighing it, like, Yeah, we're
- 54:28Speaker 3: gonna try to develop this guy into a need that
- 54:30Speaker 3: we really have, or there's definitely gonna be running back.
- 54:33Speaker 3: Sitting there at thirty eight that you know, I mean,
- 54:35Speaker 3: maybe that's even too soon for one of the running backs.
- 54:37Speaker 3: But I'd say defensive end, outside linebacker, that position group
- 54:40Speaker 3: that's really sure. That's the spot for this Red.
- 54:43Speaker 2: In my mind, I think you get a wide receiver
- 54:45Speaker 2: in the second round.
- 54:46Speaker 4: That you could, you could, but if you go yeah,
- 54:49Speaker 4: but if you go at thirty eight, if you if
- 54:51Speaker 4: you take a tackler receiver, I just don't think that
- 54:53Speaker 4: you can now count on sixty nine and seventy seven
- 54:56Speaker 4: filling the other hole that you don't draft.
- 54:58Speaker 5: No, no, But again I'm okay with I'm okay with
- 55:00Speaker 5: there still being a hole right after this year.
- 55:04Speaker 4: I think that in the third round you can find
- 55:07Speaker 4: a running back that's going to contribute. You can find
- 55:09Speaker 4: a pass rusher that can contribute, you can find a
- 55:11Speaker 4: defensive tackle that can contribute. That that those positions are
- 55:15Speaker 4: where the depth is in this draft. So like at
- 55:18Speaker 4: thirty eight, my fear is that they're going to find
- 55:19Speaker 4: themselves in a defensive line sort of party, right Like
- 55:24Speaker 4: there's just going to be defensive lineman and an ed
- 55:26Speaker 4: dreshers just flying off the board at that point in
- 55:29Speaker 4: the draft, and everybody's going to be waiting on tackle
- 55:32Speaker 4: and waiting on receiver because there aren't any that are
- 55:35Speaker 4: worth picking.
- 55:35Speaker 5: But I get that, and I'm okay with it.
- 55:40Speaker 4: The receive.
- 55:40Speaker 5: If they get a receiver in the third round, why
- 55:42Speaker 5: can't I get a receiver who can contribute? Yes, I understand.
- 55:45Speaker 5: I still have my hole with that number one receiver spot.
- 55:48Speaker 10: You know.
- 55:49Speaker 5: Can I think if they signed Stefan Diggs, who was
- 55:51Speaker 5: here last week, I still think they have a hole
- 55:53Speaker 5: with the number one receiver spot. Like I'm not. I
- 55:56Speaker 5: don't think that's going to get filled this season. But
- 56:00Speaker 5: they need to be in the business of getting better
- 56:02Speaker 5: players on the roster. Yeah, somehow they need to. They
- 56:05Speaker 5: need to improve that the overall talent.
- 56:07Speaker 4: What would you do?
- 56:08Speaker 3: Like, that's what do you do a receiver?
- 56:10Speaker 2: Though?
- 56:11Speaker 3: Like I totally curd your point which you just made.
- 56:13Speaker 3: And is it worth draft taking a flyer on a
- 56:15Speaker 3: guy when you've already got three four guys on the wall.
- 56:18Speaker 5: That's what I'm saying. I don't want to take to
- 56:19Speaker 5: me a flyer is taking McMillan at four. Well, I
- 56:23Speaker 5: just my need I have. I had a need for
- 56:25Speaker 5: number one receiver. I took the fourth pick of the draft. Well,
- 56:27Speaker 5: if you can't play, I haven't filled the role.
- 56:29Speaker 4: I think that's a little exaggeration. But if he's not
- 56:31Speaker 4: good enough to be that guy, right, But McMillan's more
- 56:34Speaker 4: than a flyer. Like McMillan, you're.
- 56:36Speaker 5: I don't see a lot of people that think he's
- 56:37Speaker 5: worthy of a top five pick.
- 56:39Speaker 4: I don't know about if he's worthy of a top
- 56:40Speaker 4: five pick. But he's a top ten talent in this class,
- 56:43Speaker 4: So like you're not. That's not a to me. A
- 56:45Speaker 4: flyer is like Pop Douglas was a flyer.
- 56:47Speaker 5: No, no, no, you know.
- 56:50Speaker 4: Was a flyer, right, Like those guys are are a lottery.
- 56:53Speaker 5: I just don't think that if you take McMillan, you're
- 56:56Speaker 5: your your problems are solved at the top of the wife.
- 56:59Speaker 3: You still need to get fast.
- 57:01Speaker 2: Kyler Pembroke. If I remember correctly, on one of Paul's shows,
- 57:05Speaker 2: they said, Travis Hunter isn't fast, Evan deuce, You guys
- 57:08Speaker 2: are all ball knowers. Is this fact or crap?
- 57:11Speaker 4: I have no comment.
- 57:13Speaker 3: He looks fast.
- 57:13Speaker 2: Why don't you have a.
- 57:14Speaker 5: Comment think he's fast or not?
- 57:15Speaker 4: Because if you like, did you have you watch the
- 57:17Speaker 4: guy play.
- 57:18Speaker 2: I mean, he's definitely got burst.
- 57:20Speaker 4: He's got one of the he's got probably one of
- 57:23Speaker 4: the best play speeds in the entire draft. Like he's
- 57:26Speaker 4: I don't know, if you put him on a stop watch,
- 57:28Speaker 4: if he was going to run a four to two,
- 57:29Speaker 4: I don't know. But when you watch him play, I
- 57:31Speaker 4: mean he ran away from guys. Yeah.
- 57:34Speaker 5: I like him better as a corner than a wide receiver,
- 57:36Speaker 5: But I think the Patriots would need to use him
- 57:38Speaker 5: at wide receiver if they did it. If they did
- 57:41Speaker 5: it that way, I feel like the little that I
- 57:44Speaker 5: watched him, he's the best athlete on the field. Yeah,
- 57:48Speaker 5: I don't think that'll be the case in the NFL,
- 57:50Speaker 5: So I worry a little bit about him as a
- 57:51Speaker 5: wide receiver.
- 57:52Speaker 2: Would would we be talking any differently about Travis Hunter
- 57:56Speaker 2: if he was playing in the SEC his career?
- 57:59Speaker 5: Yeah, if he did that in the SEC, yeah, I
- 58:01Speaker 5: would probably think better of him.
- 58:03Speaker 4: I would just might.
- 58:03Speaker 2: And then would he have been able to do that
- 58:05Speaker 2: in the SEC.
- 58:07Speaker 5: Well, I have no idea he's going to try to
- 58:09Speaker 5: do it in the NFL, evidently.
- 58:10Speaker 4: I just wonder if he, you know, would like you
- 58:13Speaker 4: mentioned some of the stuff out there about him as
- 58:16Speaker 4: a receiver, that he's a little raw and all that
- 58:18Speaker 4: kind of stuff. Well, I think we have to keep
- 58:20Speaker 4: in mind he didn't practice or focus on playing wide
- 58:23Speaker 4: receiver in college, so he played his focus was really
- 58:27Speaker 4: more on corner and he was just so damn talented
- 58:30Speaker 4: playing a receiver. That's just how they used him at Colorado.
- 58:34Speaker 4: So if he's not necessarily sole focused, but if ninety
- 58:39Speaker 4: percent of his effort is on training at wide receiver
- 58:42Speaker 4: athlete and he's already at this level, you know, this
- 58:45Speaker 4: floor of a wide receiver just be off his physical gifts.
- 58:49Speaker 2: Does Big Head like him, I don't know, because I
- 58:52Speaker 2: would think that he'd be in love with him, like
- 58:54Speaker 2: he's Bo Jackson, you know, type of all around athlete.
- 58:58Speaker 5: Do any Yeah, I don't know. I don't know. I
- 59:00Speaker 5: haven't really heard enough from from Andy to know what
- 59:02Speaker 5: he thinks about him. But that will be another one.
- 59:04Speaker 5: Going back to the combine, he weighed in I think
- 59:06Speaker 5: at one eighty eight.
- 59:07Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, six feet one eighty.
- 59:09Speaker 5: On a lot of people say how small he is.
- 59:10Speaker 5: I don't think there's anything wrong with one eighty eight.
- 59:13Speaker 5: Entering the league. He's going to get a little bigger
- 59:15Speaker 5: than that again, because Mike skinless chicken, you learn nutrition
- 59:19Speaker 5: at the NFL level. Right, he'll get a little bit
- 59:21Speaker 5: bigger than But like, it's not like he's one sixty
- 59:23Speaker 5: one eighty eight is that's that's a sturdy enough frame
- 59:26Speaker 5: he has.
- 59:27Speaker 4: He is basically Garrett Wilson from a measurable standpoint, you know,
- 59:31Speaker 4: in terms of height and weight, they basically measured in
- 59:33Speaker 4: around the same.
- 59:34Speaker 5: I had said yesterday on Sunshine that if he's available,
- 59:38Speaker 5: I don't see how the Patriots could pass him up,
- 59:40Speaker 5: and you wouldn't believe the pushback.
- 59:41Speaker 3: I could really really.
- 59:43Speaker 5: Like I said something really outside of the realm of.
- 59:46Speaker 2: Robin Coventry might snuck in a quiet but important question.
- 59:51Speaker 2: When measuring arms, what are they measuring from? Wouldn't it
- 59:54Speaker 2: be easier to measure from the fingertip of the left
- 59:56Speaker 2: hand to the fingertip of the right hand? I E
- 59:59Speaker 2: his wingspan, that's wingspan, that's measure length. What if he's
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: got short arms but a broad chest.
- 1:00:04Speaker 5: Well, they do both.
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: Sign the kid and stick them on a rack.
- 1:00:07Speaker 5: They do both, and he was exceptionally short in both. Ay,
- 1:00:11Speaker 5: b it doesn't matter what you're actually doing, they're all
- 1:00:14Speaker 5: they would all be doing it the same. So if
- 1:00:16Speaker 5: one guy has thirty two inch arms and another guy
- 1:00:19Speaker 5: is thirty four inch arms, but then you measure it
- 1:00:21Speaker 5: from a different spot, well, the other guy is still
- 1:00:23Speaker 5: going to be two inches longer, right, So what's the difference.
- 1:00:28Speaker 4: He has a very narrow chest.
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: As well, which is awesome the way he has a
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: narrow chest.
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: Yes, because his wingspan is narrow, so his upper body
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: is is not. His wingspans not long, so his shoulder
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: to shoulder.
- 1:00:43Speaker 5: I'm just going by what I read. All this stuff
- 1:00:45Speaker 5: is all of this stuff is not opinion by me.
- 1:00:48Speaker 5: I'm just going off of what I read. I've heard
- 1:00:50Speaker 5: that the wingspan in particular is like among the shortest ever.
- 1:00:54Speaker 5: It is smallest ever for that position.
- 1:00:56Speaker 4: It is that this is the first prospect that I
- 1:00:59Speaker 4: can remember where we're talking about his wingspan because.
- 1:01:03Speaker 5: It was so exceptionally small.
- 1:01:05Speaker 4: But but it's just weird because it's never been relevant in.
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: Relation to his wingspan. Does he have long arms.
- 1:01:12Speaker 4: That I don't know, but he's got a short wingspan.
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: Forearms, lo, I see what you did. How much does
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: just know about the will Campbell Armley country. I bet
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: this has bled over into your personal life, hasn't.
- 1:01:22Speaker 4: This is the point of the draft where I do
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: start to get a little annoyed.
- 1:01:26Speaker 5: So do you be talking the phone with Alex and
- 1:01:28Speaker 5: like Alex, I just don't know. Thirty two and five
- 1:01:30Speaker 5: a's it's just not long enough.
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: It's texts, trust trust I should take.
- 1:01:35Speaker 4: But yeah, this is the part where I start to
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: get a little annoyed because like some people start parachuting in,
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: you know, like that, like how like and and now
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: you know like his his shows have there that Travis
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: Hunter can actually play wide receiver, you know, like these
- 1:01:49Speaker 4: types of things.
- 1:01:50Speaker 5: That wasn't the tenor yesterday. I think people were on
- 1:01:53Speaker 5: board with Travis Hunter. I mean, I can just go
- 1:01:55Speaker 5: on the show that I was on yesterday with with
- 1:01:57Speaker 5: Tony and Tony and Jim Murray both said they agreed,
- 1:02:02Speaker 5: like if Carter or Hunter is available, I think you've
- 1:02:05Speaker 5: got to take one of those two guys.

- 1:04:00Speaker 16: Another episode of Pats from the Past podcast, Matt Smith
- 1:04:03Speaker 16: here alongside with Pop Parolo, and we're pleased to be
- 1:04:05Speaker 16: joined by former Patriots quarterback Matt Castle. Matt, thanks for joining.
- 1:04:08Speaker 10: Us, absolutely glad to be here.
- 1:04:10Speaker 7: Why are you here, Matt?
- 1:04:11Speaker 5: What would bring you back to.
- 1:04:13Speaker 6: What would bring me back to the Foxborough is not
- 1:04:15Speaker 6: just the people, the fans, but it's the tribute. Let's
- 1:04:18Speaker 6: be honest, it's the tribute the retirement ceremony for Tom Brady.
- 1:04:21Speaker 6: And you know, it was an incredible start to the
- 1:04:24Speaker 6: ceremonies last night when we all got together, a bunch
- 1:04:27Speaker 6: of teammates, old teammates and familiar faces coming back. So
- 1:04:30Speaker 6: we had a blast last night. We're looking to continue
- 1:04:32Speaker 6: it tonight.
- 1:04:33Speaker 16: You're a busy man with a big family, with a
- 1:04:35Speaker 16: lot of responsibilities and everything like that. So it's not
- 1:04:39Speaker 16: the easiest thing to sort of I'm going to drop
- 1:04:41Speaker 16: everything I'm doing. But was it and I'm sure so,
- 1:04:44Speaker 16: I mean, I don't want to answer it for you. Challenging,
- 1:04:47Speaker 16: But was it an easy decision to make that I
- 1:04:49Speaker 16: wanted to be here?
- 1:04:50Speaker 6: It was challenging, but it was definitely an easy decision
- 1:04:52Speaker 6: to make. I mean, Tom's a close friend of mine.
- 1:04:55Speaker 6: He's played an important role in my development when I
- 1:04:59Speaker 6: was young, and throughout the years we've stayed close. And
- 1:05:02Speaker 6: just the fact that we get an opportunity to celebrate
- 1:05:04Speaker 6: him tonight and send him send him out in the
- 1:05:07Speaker 6: proper fashion, and it'll be it'll be a fun, fun
- 1:05:10Speaker 6: experience for everybody.
- 1:05:11Speaker 5: You talked about the event that you did on Tuesday night,
- 1:05:14Speaker 5: any particular teammate that maybe you hadn't seen and you're like, wow,
- 1:05:18Speaker 5: it was great to catch out. I'm sure there was
- 1:05:20Speaker 5: a lot of them, but some one individually that stood out.
- 1:05:23Speaker 10: You know, there's not one individual.
- 1:05:24Speaker 6: The cool part about it is the thing that you
- 1:05:26Speaker 6: miss motes, and we talked about this is when you
- 1:05:29Speaker 6: leave the game, you miss that locker room, and you
- 1:05:32Speaker 6: had Logan Mankins, Matt Lay, Dan Cope and Lonnie Pax
- 1:05:35Speaker 6: and Kevin Fox, Dion Branch, all these guys that you've
- 1:05:39Speaker 6: had these incredible experiences with, and we played together, we
- 1:05:42Speaker 6: competed together. But to come back all and get into
- 1:05:45Speaker 6: one room and be able to see those guys and
- 1:05:49Speaker 6: pick up where we left off and tell funny stories
- 1:05:51Speaker 6: and old jokes, that's what it's all about, and that
- 1:05:53Speaker 6: it's the camaraderie that you really don't experience in other
- 1:05:57Speaker 6: walks of life, but you do in that locker room.
- 1:06:00Speaker 10: And so it's pretty unique.
- 1:06:02Speaker 16: All right, let's start where it started in two thousand
- 1:06:05Speaker 16: and five, and here's a guy who played one of
- 1:06:07Speaker 16: the best programs in all college football. You didn't get
- 1:06:10Speaker 16: a chance to play a lot.
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: What were your.
- 1:06:14Speaker 16: What realistically, Matt, did you think was going to happen
- 1:06:16Speaker 16: as you entered the draft that year?
- 1:06:18Speaker 6: Honestly, I was just hoping to catch on as a
- 1:06:21Speaker 6: free agent and prove myself, maybe even get in a
- 1:06:24Speaker 6: practice because my expectations were, Hey, if I can get in,
- 1:06:28Speaker 6: hopefully I can get a chance to prove myself. And
- 1:06:31Speaker 6: throughout the process I had a good Pro Day and
- 1:06:33Speaker 6: all that stuff, and I had some workouts for about
- 1:06:35Speaker 6: five different teams, and I just thought, you know, there
- 1:06:38Speaker 6: is potential here that I will be a free agent somewhere.
- 1:06:41Speaker 6: And then all of a sudden, that last day of
- 1:06:43Speaker 6: the draft, I get a phone call. I was sitting
- 1:06:45Speaker 6: down at my agency's like, look, free agency is gonna
- 1:06:47Speaker 6: happen quick. We got to be prepared. We're getting fucked.
- 1:06:50Speaker 6: We're started to field some phone calls from different teams,
- 1:06:52Speaker 6: and next thing I know, Coach Belichick's on the line
- 1:06:55Speaker 6: and saying, hey, Matt, welcome to the New England Patriots.
- 1:06:58Speaker 6: We're going to take you next in the NFL Draft.
- 1:07:00Speaker 6: And my jawge is dropped. I kind of even had
- 1:07:02Speaker 6: to ask him, are you messing with me? Because I
- 1:07:04Speaker 6: didn't think it was realistic, right, I mean, for a
- 1:07:07Speaker 6: guy that threw I think it was thirty two total
- 1:07:09Speaker 6: passes in college, I backed up to Heisman Trophy winners,
- 1:07:12Speaker 6: which probably you know, kind of helped me along the
- 1:07:15Speaker 6: way in terms of the perception of who I could
- 1:07:17Speaker 6: potentially be. But there wasn't any tape out there, and
- 1:07:19Speaker 6: so the fact that they took a shot on me
- 1:07:21Speaker 6: and gave me an opportunity, I'd be forever, forever grateful.
- 1:07:25Speaker 5: So when you got drafted, you know, I was we
- 1:07:27Speaker 5: were still doing the newspaper back then, Matt, That's how
- 1:07:29Speaker 5: long ago it was. But you know, I had your
- 1:07:33Speaker 5: draft profile that year and I called Pete Carroll, who
- 1:07:36Speaker 5: was the head coach here my first year working for
- 1:07:39Speaker 5: Patriots dot Com, and I talked to Pete a little
- 1:07:41Speaker 5: bit and he gushed about how agonizing the decision was
- 1:07:46Speaker 5: between you and Matt Leiner, and how you guys had
- 1:07:48Speaker 5: sort of toggled back and forth, and you know, depending
- 1:07:51Speaker 5: on the day that he woke up, he was convinced
- 1:07:54Speaker 5: you with the guy right, and then it was him,
- 1:07:55Speaker 5: and then it was you. And do you think that
- 1:07:57Speaker 5: maybe Pete talked to a lot of ent guys, maybe
- 1:08:00Speaker 5: with his obviously extensive experience, and maybe that sort of
- 1:08:04Speaker 5: helped give you a little bit of a push.
- 1:08:06Speaker 6: I absolutely think he had an influence on just the
- 1:08:09Speaker 6: ability to know so many different people from a personnel standpoint.
- 1:08:13Speaker 10: And then at the same time, I.
- 1:08:14Speaker 6: Remember on the pro day, before we started our pro day,
- 1:08:17Speaker 6: he would go in and speak to all the scouts
- 1:08:20Speaker 6: individually about each guy. And so I know that we
- 1:08:24Speaker 6: always had a good relationship, and as agonizing as it
- 1:08:27Speaker 6: was for him, it was more agonizing for me to
- 1:08:29Speaker 6: sit there and have to wait and say, you know,
- 1:08:31Speaker 6: I can't the week before season getting called into that
- 1:08:34Speaker 6: office and getting the devastating news that what you've been
- 1:08:37Speaker 6: working for, you've been the backup for three years behind Carson.
- 1:08:40Speaker 6: This was I felt like it was my time to go.
- 1:08:43Speaker 6: And then to be told, look, we're going to go
- 1:08:45Speaker 6: with line Art to start, but if he falters it
- 1:08:47Speaker 6: all and you know, he took off that first game
- 1:08:49Speaker 6: with like a rocket ship and we go beat Auburn,
- 1:08:52Speaker 6: and then I was like, man, what am I going
- 1:08:53Speaker 6: to do?
- 1:08:54Speaker 10: So I stuck playing.
- 1:08:55Speaker 6: I went and switched over, played a little tight end
- 1:08:57Speaker 6: that year, played on special teams, did all these different
- 1:08:59Speaker 6: things because I wanted to play and be a part
- 1:09:02Speaker 6: of it. But I was kind of stuck in that
- 1:09:03Speaker 6: catch twenty.
- 1:09:03Speaker 5: That's why Belichick drafted.
- 1:09:05Speaker 6: Yeah, He's like, maybe he'll be on special teams. The
- 1:09:07Speaker 6: more you can do right, the more you can.
- 1:09:09Speaker 16: Do Okay, So you're here ostensibly, you know, it helps
- 1:09:12Speaker 16: celebrate Tom's career, and so one of the big things
- 1:09:15Speaker 16: that has happened throughout the years or rookie comes in,
- 1:09:17Speaker 16: you're in the room with him. You know, what was
- 1:09:20Speaker 16: your first impression when you met tom.
- 1:09:21Speaker 6: You know, I pretty much introduced myself in the weakest,
- 1:09:25Speaker 6: nerdiest form and fashion when he came up. I said,
- 1:09:27Speaker 6: mister Brady, Matt Castle, because you know, it's an intimidating environment, right,
- 1:09:32Speaker 6: and this guy just came off three Super Bowls. You
- 1:09:34Speaker 6: don't know how to Like normally you go up and say, hey,
- 1:09:36Speaker 6: what's going on, man, nice to meet you. I just
- 1:09:38Speaker 6: completely geeked out, went with a mister Brady and he's like, hey, Bud,
- 1:09:42Speaker 6: don't call me that, call me Tommy. I was like,
- 1:09:43Speaker 6: he might have me cut tomorrow based on the fact
- 1:09:46Speaker 6: that he doesn't want to be in the room with
- 1:09:48Speaker 6: somebody like a But no, he.
- 1:09:50Speaker 10: Was incredible from the jump.
- 1:09:52Speaker 6: I mean we got in there, and then soon thereafter
- 1:09:54Speaker 6: as we started to get into the work outs that offseason,
- 1:09:57Speaker 6: he's noticed that, Look, I was one of those workout
- 1:10:00Speaker 6: warriors too. I like to go in there. I like
- 1:10:02Speaker 6: to work out, and he's like, hey, you want to
- 1:10:03Speaker 6: work out with me? So he kind of took me
- 1:10:05Speaker 6: under his wing at that point, and from that point on,
- 1:10:07Speaker 6: for the next four years.
- 1:10:08Speaker 10: We worked out every day with each other, we were
- 1:10:10Speaker 10: in every meeting.
- 1:10:11Speaker 6: But for me, it was just incredible to watch the
- 1:10:15Speaker 6: professionalism day in and day out and his leadership. And
- 1:10:19Speaker 6: it was not just with his words, but it was
- 1:10:21Speaker 6: with his actions. It's how he took care of himself,
- 1:10:24Speaker 6: it's how he interacted with his teammates, how he treated
- 1:10:27Speaker 6: one guy because he thought he could get the most
- 1:10:29Speaker 6: out of this guy like Welker, for instance, he could
- 1:10:31Speaker 6: yell at him all day long and Welker would just
- 1:10:34Speaker 6: continue to go, you know. And then there's other guys
- 1:10:36Speaker 6: that maybe like a raindy Moss, that he'd sit there
- 1:10:38Speaker 6: in the locker after practice and just have a general
- 1:10:40Speaker 6: discussion about stuff because how he approached people was different
- 1:10:45Speaker 6: based on their personality and the relationships.
- 1:10:48Speaker 10: So it was just a.
- 1:10:50Speaker 6: Masterclass in being a professional quarterback. And then to watch
- 1:10:53Speaker 6: what he did week in and week out was just astounding.
- 1:10:56Speaker 5: So you get to be part of that room with,
- 1:10:58Speaker 5: you know, the best that's ever done it, and you
- 1:11:01Speaker 5: also get to be coached by a guy who a
- 1:11:03Speaker 5: lot of people think is the best who's ever done it.
- 1:11:06Speaker 5: What do you remember about Bill specifically? But and I
- 1:11:09Speaker 5: know Matt and I tell talk about that story that
- 1:11:12Speaker 5: I think you talked about in the Dynasty documentary about
- 1:11:15Speaker 5: him calling your mom. Oh yeah, right.
- 1:11:19Speaker 6: About being a dumb ass because I missed the corner
- 1:11:21Speaker 6: blitz that was my rookie year. Yeah, it was the
- 1:11:24Speaker 6: last preseason game. I didn't see the week corner blitz, which, hey,
- 1:11:27Speaker 6: they were pretty sneaky about it.
- 1:11:28Speaker 10: Think this guy's as well. But he definitely called me
- 1:11:31Speaker 10: out in the meeting the next day.
- 1:11:32Speaker 6: He's like, you know, Matt, let's make sure we go
- 1:11:35Speaker 6: through the fronts and check the corner blitz so I
- 1:11:37Speaker 6: don't have to call your mom and tell our dear
- 1:11:39Speaker 6: missus Castle, we're sorry your son's in the hospital because
- 1:11:42Speaker 6: he's a dumb ass.
- 1:11:43Speaker 10: And from the whole t year, I was like, yep,
- 1:11:45Speaker 10: I deserve that one.
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: Uh.
- 1:11:46Speaker 10: But Bill Bill was.
- 1:11:49Speaker 6: He was incredible because he pushed you to limits that
- 1:11:51Speaker 6: you didn't know that you could go, and he got
- 1:11:53Speaker 6: the best out of each of his players. But I
- 1:11:54Speaker 6: always respected about Bill was he had you better prepared
- 1:11:58Speaker 6: for any situation situationally speaking, also just game readiness then
- 1:12:02Speaker 6: I've ever been around. And part of that was even
- 1:12:05Speaker 6: on Tuesdays, taking the time out of his day on
- 1:12:07Speaker 6: a Tuesday or off day, we'd come in, we'd meet
- 1:12:09Speaker 6: with him and you've probably heard the story. We sit down,
- 1:12:12Speaker 6: go through every personnel and their defensive back end, safeties,
- 1:12:16Speaker 6: corner strengths, weaknesses, summarize.
- 1:12:18Speaker 10: Who they are.
- 1:12:19Speaker 6: Then even maybe a potential matchup on linebackers, talk about
- 1:12:23Speaker 6: the defensive coordinator and also his lineage and where it
- 1:12:26Speaker 6: came from. Then we'd watch film on all these guys.
- 1:12:29Speaker 6: So by the time you came in on Wednesday, you're rolling.
- 1:12:33Speaker 6: You understand why we're implementing certain past schemes and concepts,
- 1:12:37Speaker 6: who we're trying to attack on specific routes, who are
- 1:12:40Speaker 6: trying to take advantage of and so you just had this.
- 1:12:43Speaker 6: You had this confidence going into game week, understanding why
- 1:12:47Speaker 6: we're doing certain things, and there was never that.
- 1:12:51Speaker 10: Wait, what are we doing? And if there was, it
- 1:12:54Speaker 10: was answered right and so.
- 1:12:56Speaker 6: And the other thing I always appreciated about Bill was
- 1:12:58Speaker 6: he he was always to everybody to the same standard
- 1:13:02Speaker 6: of accountability. It wasn't like a if you're this guy
- 1:13:05Speaker 6: and you're a big name, you're you're off limits. And
- 1:13:08Speaker 6: I've been around that that type of program before too No,
- 1:13:11Speaker 6: it was. Look, if you're Tom Brady or if you're
- 1:13:13Speaker 6: a free agent, it doesn't matter. If you've messed up,
- 1:13:16Speaker 6: I'm gonna call you out. We're gonna correct it here.
- 1:13:19Speaker 6: It might not be something that you know everybody everybody's
- 1:13:22Speaker 6: cup of tea, like to sit.
- 1:13:23Speaker 10: There and get it in the meeting room.
- 1:13:25Speaker 6: But at the same time, it's set a level of.
- 1:13:29Speaker 10: Expectation and a standard for everyone and now great moments in.
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: History satellite radio.
- 1:13:44Speaker 10: I really like it good.
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: Yeah, you don't like it, Eric, I don't have it.
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: You don't have anything.
- 1:13:49Speaker 5: Okay, you don't even have HBO podcast.
- 1:13:52Speaker 10: That's true.
- 1:13:53Speaker 16: I don't have HBO like you.
- 1:13:55Speaker 5: I have access to HBO. I know.
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: But you live like a monk's life over there in Providence.
- 1:14:01Speaker 10: I know you concerned.
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: You know you'll like a hermit.
- 1:14:03Speaker 15: Sure, Eric wearing an olive colored sweater's brown.
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: Down than I've said that before, green tint, and he
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: gets really upset.
- 1:14:14Speaker 10: I don't get upset.
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: It has a green tint to it.
- 1:14:17Speaker 5: Sure, but it's brown. It's not olive.
- 1:14:19Speaker 4: I think it's all trust me, it's not olive.
- 1:14:22Speaker 15: The color of an olive, like a dark olive, looks
- 1:14:25Speaker 15: just like your sweater.
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: That's another great moment from.
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: Those are the days.
- 1:14:32Speaker 5: I'm not getting mad, but but it's brown, right like
- 1:14:36Speaker 5: he was actually angry at the time.
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: Oh yeah, oh yeah, it's the best color, all right.

- 1:15:07Speaker 2: or you know, a restaurant like was there a consensus? Like, okay,
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: that was the hall.
- 1:15:11Speaker 4: Didn't play the game?
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: Oh you didn't play last week?
- 1:15:13Speaker 4: He said, Jersey Mike's or something.
- 1:15:15Speaker 5: Oh no, no, no, I said, I said the North End.
- 1:15:18Speaker 5: I said, take them to Boston so they know that
- 1:15:19Speaker 5: they're not basically in Siberia. Take them to Boston. Take
- 1:15:23Speaker 5: them to the North End. You can't go wrong. But
- 1:15:25Speaker 5: if you just want to stay Locals number thirteen at
- 1:15:27Speaker 5: Jersey next Mike's Way.
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, I was having a little.
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: Fun with local I mean sharing such a town with
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: so many patriots, greats in it.
- 1:15:34Speaker 4: And such a fine cuisine.
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: Didn't take them to the spot.
- 1:15:38Speaker 4: No, No, it's just fantastic cuisine and Sharon, they're really
- 1:15:42Speaker 4: known for that.
- 1:15:43Speaker 5: Yeah, I didn't take it seriously, this guy. I was
- 1:15:46Speaker 5: trying to town downtown, Sharon.
- 1:15:49Speaker 3: I will, I think fred I will have maybe a
- 1:15:50Speaker 3: little something special in the newsletter this week. There was
- 1:15:53Speaker 3: a new addition to the do So family over the weekend.
- 1:15:56Speaker 3: Oh for a friend, has john fantastic?
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: Do you want to save it for the newsletter?
- 1:16:05Speaker 5: We found it.
- 1:16:05Speaker 7: We found a very chill dog.
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: A dog.
- 1:16:07Speaker 7: It's kind of like a chiawa mix. He's a small dog.
- 1:16:11Speaker 3: His name is Zoot and he comes from Texas, so
- 1:16:13Speaker 3: we kept the name Zoot. I don't know where it
- 1:16:15Speaker 3: came from. He's like a nice like like light brown, like.
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: Olive ears stick up ears are very so.
- 1:16:22Speaker 3: He's got some doc I can't say docson doson doxon. Uh.
- 1:16:28Speaker 3: He's got a little bit of pug and he's got
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: a little bit of a little bit of pug poodle
- 1:16:35Speaker 3: little poodle and a little poodle.
- 1:16:37Speaker 7: So he's a little bit of a mix.
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: Yeah, apparently his parents parents.
- 1:16:42Speaker 3: Uh but no, very very chill dog. And he's assimilating
- 1:16:45Speaker 3: well into the family. So maybe I'll have a little
- 1:16:47Speaker 3: right up.
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: Who does he gravitate to most probably my wife right
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: out of the gate.
- 1:16:52Speaker 3: But he was smart. When we went to the thing,
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: you know, to the shelter to look at him, he
- 1:16:56Speaker 3: came right up to me and sat right next to
- 1:16:58Speaker 3: me and kind of flipped upside down and was just
- 1:17:00Speaker 3: like hanging with me. So he knew he knew who
- 1:17:02Speaker 3: the skeptical one was. And uh, yeah, No, it was
- 1:17:04Speaker 3: just very calm, not a barker, chill dog. So I
- 1:17:07Speaker 3: think it's a good, good addition for all those out
- 1:17:09Speaker 3: there who were very that's great. I had a text
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: Evan anounce that I knew they were heavily invested in.
- 1:17:14Speaker 4: Yeah, on Sunday night, sitting there and get a text
- 1:17:17Speaker 4: with the picture from picture in the text message there
- 1:17:21Speaker 4: is there's Zuke. Very excited.
- 1:17:24Speaker 2: There you congratulations, thank you, very excited.
- 1:17:27Speaker 5: Very good.
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: All right, let's go to the hot line. He's been
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: holding on for a while, Patty and Agaalon, what's up? Patty?
- 1:17:38Speaker 5: Patty passed out.
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: People are going to be really upset that you weren't
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: on the line. Let's go to Ohio. Brad's there. What's
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: up Brad?
- 1:17:48Speaker 17: Hey, good afternoon, guys.
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: Good.
- 1:17:54Speaker 17: Uh got a got a couple of thoughts here with you,
- 1:17:57Speaker 17: and uh, you know, the drafts upon us now, so
- 1:18:00Speaker 17: I think we're focusing a lot on that and that's
- 1:18:03Speaker 17: a good thing. Just a couple quick insights. If it
- 1:18:09Speaker 17: were me and it was picked four, I would either
- 1:18:13Speaker 17: go Hunter, Carter, Campbell, Graham, and if neither one of
- 1:18:18Speaker 17: those players were available, I would try to get Coaston
- 1:18:24Speaker 17: Loveland simply because he'll be great with Drake. And then
- 1:18:29Speaker 17: I don't know about that North Dakota state blocker. Where
- 1:18:32Speaker 17: are you all anticipating he'll be taken? Because can we
- 1:18:36Speaker 17: get back up into the first round and get.
- 1:18:39Speaker 4: Him, Well, he's a guard, yeah, talking about Gray's Abel,
- 1:18:43Speaker 4: who's fantastic. He's going to play guard though at the
- 1:18:47Speaker 4: next level, and he's going to be a top twenty,
- 1:18:50Speaker 4: top twenty five pick. I think in this class, really
- 1:18:54Speaker 4: really really really strong pre draft process starting at the
- 1:18:58Speaker 4: Senior Bowl just to absolutely skyrocketed up the board since then.
- 1:19:03Speaker 4: So good player, really good football player.
- 1:19:07Speaker 13: Then you don't think we'll get a chance. He won't
- 1:19:09Speaker 13: even fit in our offense.
- 1:19:11Speaker 4: Then no, I don't think it's not. He's just a guard.
- 1:19:14Speaker 4: You know, he's we talk about Will Campbell's arm length
- 1:19:17Speaker 4: like Gray's abels like closer to thirty two. You know,
- 1:19:20Speaker 4: he's really gonna there's no question, like, there's no there's
- 1:19:24Speaker 4: debate with him. He's moving inside at the Senior Bowl
- 1:19:27Speaker 4: and then where he practiced all three spots actually center
- 1:19:31Speaker 4: as well.
- 1:19:33Speaker 17: Okay, then, well I was hoping because he did look
- 1:19:35Speaker 17: like the sure bet as far as the blocker goes.
- 1:19:39Speaker 17: And then the running back. I still hope we get
- 1:19:42Speaker 17: Donovan Edwards and then Jenkins the other Higo State running back,
- 1:19:48Speaker 17: and then a wide receiver Isaiah Bond from Texas.
- 1:19:52Speaker 3: Is that oh yeah, we like him.
- 1:19:54Speaker 13: And then made me back back or.
- 1:20:01Speaker 3: Yeah best jack?
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: Okay, well all right thanks, Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:20:08Speaker 5: Perhaps branching out a little bit, only five Michigan guys
- 1:20:11Speaker 5: that I expected Isaiah Bond was was that was outside
- 1:20:14Speaker 5: the box.
- 1:20:15Speaker 4: Everybody's all over the place with Isaiah Bond. You either
- 1:20:17Speaker 4: love him or you hate him. There's no there's no consensus. Uh.
- 1:20:20Speaker 4: He's obviously got great, great speed, but he never really
- 1:20:25Speaker 4: realized the potential in college, like he had a really
- 1:20:28Speaker 4: good year at Alabama a couple of years ago, looked
- 1:20:30Speaker 4: like the next Jalen Waddle, like was just moving at
- 1:20:33Speaker 4: a different speed than everybody else on the field, and
- 1:20:36Speaker 4: the production just never really took off between Alabama and Texas.
- 1:20:40Speaker 4: So that that's Isaiah Bond. But he mentioned Judkins. I've
- 1:20:44Speaker 4: watched all these running backs recently. I actually like Treyvon Henderson,
- 1:20:47Speaker 4: the other Ohio State back, a little bit better. But
- 1:20:50Speaker 4: both those guys can play. They'll be second round picks.
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: Curtis and Saint Louis with a year after twenty twenty four.
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: Question for Paul, would you have rather taken say one
- 1:21:00Speaker 2: of Marvin Harrison, Junior Malik Neighbors or Joe alt impaired
- 1:21:04Speaker 2: them with say Shador Sanders or one of this year's
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: free agent veteran quarterbacks that were available, or would you
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: have still taken Drake and be in the current position
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: with the potential options at tackle and wide receivers. So
- 1:21:19Speaker 2: let me get it, so.
- 1:21:20Speaker 5: Last year, be I would take b you would take
- 1:21:23Speaker 5: I would rather have I would rather feel good about
- 1:21:25Speaker 5: my quarterback situation than be searching for it, because I
- 1:21:29Speaker 5: think there's a lot of teams that have good talent
- 1:21:31Speaker 5: and don't have an answer a quarterback that are not
- 1:21:33Speaker 5: very good. Yeah, they're just okay? And how see Pittsburgh Steelers.
- 1:21:37Speaker 3: Do you not want to be sitting here with Joe
- 1:21:39Speaker 3: Alt and trying to figure out, Please Russell Wilson come
- 1:21:42Speaker 3: to New England?
- 1:21:42Speaker 10: Right?
- 1:21:42Speaker 5: Save us? And and by the way, if he comes,
- 1:21:45Speaker 5: he's not saving you. Yeah, Like the the chances are
- 1:21:50Speaker 5: much greater that Drake may becomes an All Pro and
- 1:21:54Speaker 5: that saves you than it is of plugging some veteran
- 1:21:57Speaker 5: in or relying on Shador. In my view, I just
- 1:22:02Speaker 5: don't feel like those quarterbacks are as good as.
- 1:22:04Speaker 3: The class from last Jameis Winston Giants right, not even close.
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: Second question, Evan, Yes, with the addition of Marcus Epps,
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: do you feel he can be a true safety in
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: Rabel's defense or would he be more in the box?
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: And who do you feel he would pair better with?
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: Duggars or Peppers? Also, could you see the Patriots moving
- 1:22:24Speaker 2: on from one of those guys?
- 1:22:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I I think as a flyer, I'm not ready
- 1:22:30Speaker 4: to de pencil him in anyway coming off an injury.
- 1:22:34Speaker 4: You know, he's a good I would say probably more
- 1:22:36Speaker 4: of a free safety, like somebody that's gonna play deep
- 1:22:38Speaker 4: a little bit more. But he's pretty versatile, you know
- 1:22:41Speaker 4: when he was healthy and playing well. But I'm gonna
- 1:22:44Speaker 4: have to see it in training camp with him, and
- 1:22:46Speaker 4: I think you know you have him. They still have
- 1:22:49Speaker 4: Jalen Hawkins brought him by him back.
- 1:22:51Speaker 3: The same time too, similar kind of player too.
- 1:22:53Speaker 4: Yeah, so I think one of those two guys will
- 1:22:54Speaker 4: probably end up winning a spot. I don't think they
- 1:22:57Speaker 4: want to use a draft pick on a safety. I
- 1:23:00Speaker 4: think they would rather let's see, give Dugger and Pepper's
- 1:23:05Speaker 4: another year and hopefully they're the players we thought they
- 1:23:08Speaker 4: were when we extended them versus what they played like
- 1:23:12Speaker 4: last year. I think that they would prefer to do that.
- 1:23:15Speaker 4: That's just my opinion.
- 1:23:17Speaker 3: But I kind of think Peppers is here to stay now.
- 1:23:21Speaker 3: I think if they were going to get rid of
- 1:23:22Speaker 3: him because of the incident last year, which you know
- 1:23:25Speaker 3: he was clear for.
- 1:23:27Speaker 5: Still, they're clearly not getting rid of him for that incident,
- 1:23:30Speaker 5: but he'd been long gone if they were doing that.
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what I mean.
- 1:23:33Speaker 5: I'm not convinced that those two guys will be on
- 1:23:36Speaker 5: the team. One of them will be, but I'm not
- 1:23:39Speaker 5: convinced that both of them will be.
- 1:23:40Speaker 4: I don't know if both of them necessarily need to be,
- 1:23:42Speaker 4: just because the off the team, they are redundant skill sets,
- 1:23:46Speaker 4: Like I think you can.
- 1:23:46Speaker 5: Get away a chance that one of them could go.
- 1:23:49Speaker 4: Yeah, I just think that in terms of using you know,
- 1:23:51Speaker 4: we got a call earlier about you know, Andrew mccuba
- 1:23:53Speaker 4: is going to be a top one hundred pick at safety, Like,
- 1:23:56Speaker 4: I don't know if this is really you're creating more
- 1:23:58Speaker 4: holes in the canoe, right Like if you're starting to
- 1:24:00Speaker 4: pull out the safeties now now, and now all of
- 1:24:02Speaker 4: a sudden, New York, Okay, you're gonna use a top
- 1:24:04Speaker 4: one hundred pick on a safety, and now what about
- 1:24:06Speaker 4: all the other positions that you need that are maybe
- 1:24:08Speaker 4: more pressing. I would much rather them kind of like
- 1:24:11Speaker 4: what they're doing at tight end. You probably have passable
- 1:24:15Speaker 4: safeties right now, So let's just see if it were
- 1:24:17Speaker 4: and Mike.
- 1:24:17Speaker 5: Your chances are you're right, the status will be quo. Yeah,
- 1:24:21Speaker 5: but I wouldn't be stunned if one of those guys.
- 1:24:23Speaker 3: I'm just interested you guys are saying one of those
- 1:24:24Speaker 3: guys implying that maybe you think Kyle Duggar could go.
- 1:24:27Speaker 5: I just, you know, whichever one they can get something for.
- 1:24:30Speaker 5: There was a time where I don't think they're going
- 1:24:31Speaker 5: to release them. There was a time where we wouldn't
- 1:24:33Speaker 5: think of getting rid of Kyle Duggar. So let's get
- 1:24:36Speaker 5: back to that time. Maybe maybe a better front line
- 1:24:40Speaker 5: and more pressure on consistent pressure on the quarterback.
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: Helps him getting him healthy too, and get him healthy
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: maybe the biggest I just.
- 1:24:47Speaker 5: I just think things sometimes pop into your lap that
- 1:24:50Speaker 5: you're not necessarily expecting, you know, And if there was
- 1:24:53Speaker 5: a what if some team looks at Kyle dugla and
- 1:24:56Speaker 5: says he was really banged up last year, the contract
- 1:24:59Speaker 5: is is okay, it's not great, but it's not terrible.
- 1:25:03Speaker 5: I could give something for him, you know something, Maybe
- 1:25:06Speaker 5: I have a surplus somewhere and I could I could
- 1:25:09Speaker 5: trade this or you know, a draft pick for for
- 1:25:11Speaker 5: Kyle Duggar. And you know, the Patriots don't necessarily need
- 1:25:16Speaker 5: two physical box safeties. Maybe they look to get something
- 1:25:21Speaker 5: that they do.
- 1:25:21Speaker 2: Those are the kind of things that could happen, right.
- 1:25:23Speaker 5: I wouldn't suggest they're gonna, you know, year one into
- 1:25:25Speaker 5: a four year deal. Just release them and eat that
- 1:25:29Speaker 5: whatever the dead money is. I don't think that would happen.
- 1:25:32Speaker 2: Nate Chicago, did you guys see Dion and he means
- 1:25:35Speaker 2: Sanders publicly saying we are hoping for New York. I
- 1:25:39Speaker 2: think his endorsement could help force the Giant's hand, especially
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: since Joe Shane and Brian Dabele are on the hot seat.
- 1:25:46Speaker 4: I agree, Well, really.
- 1:25:48Speaker 5: I think the opposite, though I understand what the mentality is.
- 1:25:51Speaker 5: I just feel like, if you're on the hot seat,
- 1:25:53Speaker 5: the last thing you want is unproven rookie who some
- 1:25:56Speaker 5: people think is the second round pick.
- 1:25:58Speaker 4: See. I feel like you almost have no choice, Like
- 1:26:01Speaker 4: if you're stable in Shane, you need to start the clock,
- 1:26:04Speaker 4: Like you need to take a take a risk at
- 1:26:05Speaker 4: one of these quarterbacks at some point and start the clock.
- 1:26:08Speaker 4: And you know, last year they had opportunities to do
- 1:26:11Speaker 4: it too, Like they could have had Penix, they could
- 1:26:13Speaker 4: have had JJ McCarthy, they could have had Nicks. Like
- 1:26:15Speaker 4: at some point you have to take the plunge. And
- 1:26:18Speaker 4: if you keep kicking that can down the road and
- 1:26:20Speaker 4: the you know you're gonna get started getting asked some
- 1:26:22Speaker 4: questions like do you just not have the chops to
- 1:26:24Speaker 4: just go out and do it.
- 1:26:25Speaker 5: I just feel like, if you take Sanders and you
- 1:26:27Speaker 5: win three games, you're going.
- 1:26:29Speaker 4: But if you the alternative, playing jamis on.
- 1:26:31Speaker 5: The alternative is to figure out a way to get
- 1:26:33Speaker 5: Like Russell Wilson, you don't.
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: Think someone Sanders buys them some time.
- 1:26:37Speaker 5: I know, no, no, unless he's if they don't win
- 1:26:41Speaker 5: some games.
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: Yeah, but if they win more games than they did
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: last year and Sanders.
- 1:26:47Speaker 5: I don't think that can happen, Okay, I mean that's
- 1:26:49Speaker 5: just my view. I mean that doesn't mean I'm right.
- 1:26:51Speaker 5: I'm wrong about a million things. I thought my prediction
- 1:26:54Speaker 5: would be Sanders will not win five games.
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: But I always thought that getting that rookie quarterback buys
- 1:27:00Speaker 2: you some time as a head coach.
- 1:27:02Speaker 5: Y it does when you're a new regime. Like I
- 1:27:06Speaker 5: don't think, for example, Tennessee would have to take cam
- 1:27:09Speaker 5: Ward if they didn't want.
- 1:27:10Speaker 2: To, I guess. But they didn't work for right.
- 1:27:14Speaker 5: You know, like everybody uses Atlanta as an example. So
- 1:27:18Speaker 5: they they went and signed Kirk Cousins, and they still
- 1:27:20Speaker 5: drafted Michael Pennix. It's the first year coach. He's not
- 1:27:24Speaker 5: in the hot seat. He can do that. So I
- 1:27:27Speaker 5: think if you sign Russell Wilson or Aaron Rodgers, I
- 1:27:31Speaker 5: know that's unlikely. It looks like Pittsburgh for Aaron Rodgers.
- 1:27:34Speaker 5: But if they signed one of those guys, I don't
- 1:27:35Speaker 5: see how you can then take Shadua Sanders.
- 1:27:39Speaker 4: If I was I would just be they messed up
- 1:27:42Speaker 4: the draft last year. Like Neighbors a great player, but
- 1:27:45Speaker 4: they messed up the draft last year. I'm sure in
- 1:27:47Speaker 4: the eyes of their ownership, they messed it up by
- 1:27:50Speaker 4: passing on Nixon Pennix, Like those two guys look like
- 1:27:52Speaker 4: they can play in the league and they needed a
- 1:27:54Speaker 4: quarterback and they didn't take them. And so if you
- 1:27:57Speaker 4: do that again and Shadora Sanders goes to another team
- 1:28:00Speaker 4: and looks like he can play in the league, you're out.
- 1:28:03Speaker 5: If Sanders can play in the league again, If they're
- 1:28:06Speaker 5: wrong and I'm wrong and he ends up being really
- 1:28:09Speaker 5: good out of the shoot, they're gone.
- 1:28:11Speaker 4: Yeah, Because I think there's a chance he could be
- 1:28:13Speaker 4: really good out of the shoot, like and I say
- 1:28:15Speaker 4: really good, like mac Joe.
- 1:28:17Speaker 5: I think he's so raw. I just don't see it. See.
- 1:28:20Speaker 4: I think it's the opposite. I think that he's actually
- 1:28:21Speaker 4: I mean, he's played a ton of college football.
- 1:28:23Speaker 5: I know, and I think he's right at a high level.
- 1:28:26Speaker 4: He's got a pretty good instinct to him, a pretty
- 1:28:28Speaker 4: good ability to him in terms of his floor. I
- 1:28:32Speaker 4: think a lot of people are just wondering if the
- 1:28:34Speaker 4: athleticism in the arm talent is there for him to
- 1:28:37Speaker 4: have a breakthrough seals.
- 1:28:38Speaker 5: This is a little stubborn polism because Evan's right, that's
- 1:28:41Speaker 5: the way he's viewed. Evans got the viewpoint of most
- 1:28:44Speaker 5: I look at him in a much different way. I
- 1:28:46Speaker 5: think he has talent. I'm intrigued by some of his talent,
- 1:28:50Speaker 5: but I think he's raw, and he breaks a lot
- 1:28:52Speaker 5: of rules and runs around aimlessly, and yeah, he generally
- 1:28:54Speaker 5: points his fingers at the offensive line a lot. That
- 1:28:57Speaker 5: to me, he creates a lot of his own pressure
- 1:28:59Speaker 5: by running round and holding the ball. I think he's
- 1:29:02Speaker 5: really wrong. I think he has a long way to go.
- 1:29:03Speaker 2: Phill in the UK says, if Carter is at four,
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: given the current d line and needs elsewhere, would you
- 1:29:10Speaker 2: look to trade down to pick up a wide receiver,
- 1:29:12Speaker 2: tackle and additional picks? I say no, because you don't
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: have Abdul Carter, right, you don't have that type of rusher.
- 1:29:20Speaker 2: So maybe you have depth on your d line now,
- 1:29:24Speaker 2: but you don't have Abdul Carter.
- 1:29:26Speaker 3: And he's potentially special, a really good fit for what
- 1:29:30Speaker 3: they want to do. I mean, there's a number of
- 1:29:31Speaker 3: things they can do with him. Hey, it just makes
- 1:29:33Speaker 3: too much sense. It hurts that it's not on the
- 1:29:35Speaker 3: offensive side of the ball, but it's kind of like
- 1:29:38Speaker 3: free agency was you got to take what's given to
- 1:29:41Speaker 3: you or what's available. I think that'd be a huge
- 1:29:43Speaker 3: thing moment. If Abdul Carter falls to fourth overall they
- 1:29:46Speaker 3: get a chance to pick him, that would be that'd
- 1:29:48Speaker 3: be pretty cool.
- 1:29:48Speaker 4: I would definitely listen to the trade offers. If you
- 1:29:51Speaker 4: get a Will Anderson like package for Abdull Carter and
- 1:29:55Speaker 4: you can get a Day two pick and a future
- 1:29:58Speaker 4: first round pick for four in the position the Patriots
- 1:30:01Speaker 4: are in, with all the needs that they have, I
- 1:30:04Speaker 4: would definitely listen to it. Would I do it? I'm
- 1:30:07Speaker 4: glad I don't. I'm glad I don't have to make
- 1:30:11Speaker 4: that decision.
- 1:30:11Speaker 5: I haven't given any thoughts to that kind of a
- 1:30:13Speaker 5: package because I don't think that's available. But we also
- 1:30:15Speaker 5: haven't thought about Carter and being available, right, so I
- 1:30:21Speaker 5: hate to somebody wants him that much.
- 1:30:23Speaker 7: Like if somebody wants him that much.
- 1:30:24Speaker 3: You should want him that much, you know.
- 1:30:26Speaker 5: Like Mike god instinct would be to take Carter. I
- 1:30:28Speaker 5: think he's a special player, but maybe he's not. I
- 1:30:30Speaker 5: don't know.
- 1:30:31Speaker 4: Well, I don't even think it has to do with
- 1:30:33Speaker 4: whether he's special or not. I just they have a
- 1:30:35Speaker 4: lot of holes to fill that all over the roster.
- 1:30:39Speaker 4: I wouldn't hate having the extra picks, Like, you know,
- 1:30:42Speaker 4: then you have we're gonna have a first round, you know,
- 1:30:45Speaker 4: later first round pick this year, but you also have
- 1:30:47Speaker 4: you'll have four picks on Day two of the draft,
- 1:30:50Speaker 4: and you'll have two first round picks next year. You
- 1:30:52Speaker 4: know that. So you have a lot of picks to
- 1:30:54Speaker 4: work with, whether that's to pick players or to trade him.
- 1:30:57Speaker 4: It's an intriguing, right, you know, triguing possibile. I just wouldn't.
- 1:31:01Speaker 4: I just wouldn't. Like I don't know, last year when
- 1:31:04Speaker 4: you needed a quarterback, it was different. You weren't going
- 1:31:07Speaker 4: to trade down because you were taking a quarterback. I
- 1:31:09Speaker 4: don't know if any one position player moves the needle
- 1:31:12Speaker 4: enough for me to be completely dismissive of a trade down.
- 1:31:15Speaker 3: I'm excited for this draft though last year it was
- 1:31:17Speaker 3: all right, we just want we just want Jaden Daniels
- 1:31:21Speaker 3: to go, you know, like like I was thinking I
- 1:31:22Speaker 3: wanted Drake. So it just there was really one question
- 1:31:24Speaker 3: because Jade Dale was going to go to Washington.
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: Have you picked up your outfit yet for the draft? No,
- 1:31:28Speaker 2: we got to talk about that second quarters.
- 1:31:33Speaker 4: You want to go out on limb like that, that's bold, it's.
- 1:31:37Speaker 2: Help Rights and fred sis. You didn't like the watch
- 1:31:39Speaker 2: of mccallots. They said way back when, what kind of
- 1:31:42Speaker 2: snack do you in the PU team preferable? Paul and
- 1:31:44Speaker 2: I don't eat snacks anymore. We're off the snacks for
- 1:31:47Speaker 2: a little while, for a little while, so maybe Evan
- 1:31:49Speaker 2: and Deuce can answer the question.
- 1:31:51Speaker 7: Yeah, I like snacks.
- 1:31:54Speaker 4: I'm a I'm a big pretzel guy.
- 1:31:56Speaker 7: I like pretzels.
- 1:31:56Speaker 2: Talking about a pretzels like the kind you get at
- 1:31:59Speaker 2: the at the game, or like.
- 1:32:01Speaker 10: Just no.
- 1:32:03Speaker 4: Snyders, snyders, pretz mustard yeah, yeah, chocolate pretzels, yeah, peanut
- 1:32:10Speaker 4: butterful peanut butter pretzels, candy, sour packers.
- 1:32:16Speaker 3: I love.
- 1:32:17Speaker 2: Heard that they rot your teeth. Sour pas stuff them.
- 1:32:21Speaker 5: They need to tell me, like a piece of like
- 1:32:23Speaker 5: jelly like candy, you know, coated and sugar is bad.
- 1:32:26Speaker 2: For your teeth, but particularly sour of the sour candies
- 1:32:30Speaker 2: are particularly bad for the enameled.
- 1:32:33Speaker 4: Doesn't shock me at all.
- 1:32:34Speaker 2: I'm a big jelly belly like jelly bellies.
- 1:32:36Speaker 5: No, I don't know from jelly bellies, little jelly.
- 1:32:40Speaker 3: Beans, different flavors, and you you're always just playing, like
- 1:32:44Speaker 3: what's the flavor?
- 1:32:44Speaker 4: You know, jelly like chocolates, that's what we're doing. I
- 1:32:48Speaker 4: like oreos double stuff. You gotta go, you gotta but
- 1:32:53Speaker 4: you know, like I have a semi addiction to oreos,
- 1:32:56Speaker 4: so like I have to get them in like the packs,
- 1:32:58Speaker 4: so that I limit myself. Need the whole thing, right
- 1:33:00Speaker 4: because if you gave me a whole box or sleep
- 1:33:03Speaker 4: of oreos there, that's it.
- 1:33:05Speaker 2: You have to anonymous.
- 1:33:07Speaker 4: Oh yeah, no, it's bad.
- 1:33:08Speaker 3: My favorite, my favorite dessert of all time is this
- 1:33:11Speaker 3: Oreo tira Masu that they had at a bakery in
- 1:33:13Speaker 3: La called Sweet Lady Jane, And it was like it's
- 1:33:16Speaker 3: basically just whipped cream and oreos. Maybe like some custard
- 1:33:19Speaker 3: in there or something.
- 1:33:21Speaker 5: It was aw basically an excuse for Deuce to continue
- 1:33:24Speaker 5: to tell us who used.
- 1:33:25Speaker 7: To live in anything with Oreo closed down those Sweet
- 1:33:28Speaker 7: Lady Jane.
- 1:33:28Speaker 4: And season cream ice cream regular, he says.
- 1:33:36Speaker 2: Next Cross, Next, please put together a best of great
- 1:33:40Speaker 2: moments and Pew history downloads. I would pay for hours
- 1:33:44Speaker 2: of listening to that comedy and contentiousness while driving to
- 1:33:47Speaker 2: clinics and sporting and spotting severe weather out here in
- 1:33:50Speaker 2: the Great Plains of Colorado, lastly, and watching Door Sanders
- 1:33:56Speaker 2: Live and via TV. I think he is better then
- 1:33:59Speaker 2: you think. With the prime related publicity throw, I think
- 1:34:03Speaker 2: he will go top three.
- 1:34:04Speaker 5: Well, I think he I think he could very well
- 1:34:06Speaker 5: go in the top three. But he's better than I think.
- 1:34:08Speaker 5: I feel like you guys are higher on him than
- 1:34:11Speaker 5: I am. I think. Don't want to drag you into
- 1:34:13Speaker 5: my viewpoints.
- 1:34:15Speaker 4: The big question with Shador that I have is what
- 1:34:17Speaker 4: you brought up is was he making the offensive line
- 1:34:21Speaker 4: worse or is the offensive line making him worse? Like
- 1:34:24Speaker 4: if you had put him in Oregon's offense, in Texas's offense,
- 1:34:29Speaker 4: in LSU's offense, or whatever, would he have been lighting
- 1:34:33Speaker 4: at the point, you know, would he have been lighting
- 1:34:34Speaker 4: it up like those quarterbacks sid like bo Nix did
- 1:34:36Speaker 4: at Oregon because he's no one ever touches him and
- 1:34:39Speaker 4: he's just standing there. So in the NFL, if he
- 1:34:42Speaker 4: goes to a situation where they can protect him and
- 1:34:45Speaker 4: now he's he is clean to throw the football, I
- 1:34:48Speaker 4: think that there's a nice I'll say this.
- 1:34:50Speaker 5: I hope I'm wrong about Sanders, because I think it
- 1:34:52Speaker 5: would be good for the league to have, you know,
- 1:34:55Speaker 5: especially but well see, no, I think there's there's a
- 1:34:59Speaker 5: little bit similar to what you're talking about. Just there's
- 1:35:02Speaker 5: a there's a personality sure, and I think the aura
- 1:35:05Speaker 5: of Dion I think there'd be some value to that
- 1:35:09Speaker 5: if dos Sanders end up joining you know the classroom
- 1:35:14Speaker 5: last year, that looks like pretty much all the guys
- 1:35:17Speaker 5: that played had some success, not just Daniels. That's good
- 1:35:22Speaker 5: for the league. All of a sudden you have an
- 1:35:23Speaker 5: influx of a half dozen eight or so good young
- 1:35:26Speaker 5: quarterbacks that already, say in three years, when you know
- 1:35:31Speaker 5: those the older guys are starting to get sad.
- 1:35:35Speaker 2: You happen to catch Fanseka on TV last night, the
- 1:35:38Speaker 2: Brazilian tennis player I.
- 1:35:39Speaker 5: Did not what tennis was on on a Monday night
- 1:35:43Speaker 5: Tennis TV.
- 1:35:44Speaker 2: You just want it's the Miami Opens, It's a Master's
- 1:35:47Speaker 2: one thousand, it's.
- 1:35:48Speaker 5: A big tomorrow. I'm not doubting that it's a big tournament.
- 1:35:51Speaker 5: But what I would say is the tennis channel has
- 1:35:54Speaker 5: to get asterisks in the ratings and somehow you're watching it.
- 1:35:57Speaker 5: I have one viewer, right, it's like Patriots unfiltered on TV.
- 1:36:04Speaker 2: This kid is like a rock star. He's like the
- 1:36:07Speaker 2: next big thing.
- 1:36:08Speaker 5: It No, you've you've talked this kid up and then
- 1:36:11Speaker 5: he went on, No, no.
- 1:36:12Speaker 2: You're thinking about's. I don't know what happened to him.
- 1:36:16Speaker 2: He's falling off.
- 1:36:18Speaker 5: Who's the guy who recently you would you were snapping?
- 1:36:21Speaker 2: He got he moved up into the seventies in his
- 1:36:25Speaker 2: ranking and he got to like the quarters. I'm an
- 1:36:29Speaker 2: I watched the Majors a little bit. This kid French
- 1:36:32Speaker 2: is coming up. He's going to be the next big thing.
- 1:36:36Speaker 4: They need the next big thing because like Djokovic is,
- 1:36:39Speaker 4: those guys are getting O.
- 1:36:40Speaker 2: No, there's a lot of good young players. Although Ben Shelton,
- 1:36:42Speaker 2: well I can't stand center is.
- 1:36:44Speaker 18: Saying this guy is the next superstar, which Onelli Francisco, Yeah,
- 1:36:50Speaker 18: I mean center, it probably is him and Alcaraz are
- 1:36:54Speaker 18: the best to right now.
- 1:36:55Speaker 4: Law, I love watching that guy.
- 1:36:58Speaker 2: Josh Atlanta.
- 1:37:00Speaker 5: What an American.
- 1:37:02Speaker 2: There's a lot of good Americans right now.
- 1:37:03Speaker 5: Yeah, just good. There's no great one.
- 1:37:05Speaker 2: Taylor Fritz.
- 1:37:06Speaker 5: Yeah, they're good.
- 1:37:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:37:07Speaker 5: No, they're always they're always in the no great ones. Yeah,
- 1:37:09Speaker 5: they're always like, you know, quarterfinals, semi final considered great.
- 1:37:14Speaker 5: He was really good, should have been.
- 1:37:16Speaker 2: He won a couple of majors. But Shelton, this kid's
- 1:37:19Speaker 2: got one hundred and fifty.
- 1:37:21Speaker 5: Who was the last great American men's tennis player.
- 1:37:24Speaker 4: Race as Maybe.
- 1:37:28Speaker 5: Yeah, probably probably Sampres. You have to go back that far. Yeah, probably, Yeah,
- 1:37:33Speaker 5: Agasy won a couple of majors. Sampress won like twenty Yeah, I.
- 1:37:36Speaker 2: Would say I guess he was, you know, Hall of
- 1:37:39Speaker 2: Famer good.
- 1:37:39Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, because Sampress Mary Veronica von Uh. That
- 1:37:44Speaker 5: is correct, Yeah, that.
- 1:37:45Speaker 4: Is correct, every time.
- 1:37:47Speaker 10: Erotic.
- 1:37:48Speaker 5: Yeah, she married the never never lived back to them
- 1:37:52Speaker 5: the height, but thanks thanks for listening.
- 1:37:54Speaker 2: Never lived up to the names.
- 1:37:57Speaker 4: I mean, I feel like that was like my generation's
- 1:37:59Speaker 4: Agassi Sampris.
- 1:38:01Speaker 10: And he just it was.
- 1:38:04Speaker 5: Like, I feel like there's more American women that are relevant. Yeah,
- 1:38:08Speaker 5: there's some good men who you know can win.
- 1:38:11Speaker 2: They can this. This young kid learner ten out of Californi.
- 1:38:15Speaker 2: He's really good, so you know he's young.
- 1:38:18Speaker 4: These are young people, the young people American to win
- 1:38:22Speaker 4: the US Open, right, like the women break through and
- 1:38:26Speaker 4: win everyone golf.
- 1:38:27Speaker 2: Just one he's having trouble.
- 1:38:28Speaker 4: Yeah, she's streaky, she's.
- 1:38:32Speaker 5: But Madison Keys won her first major. Didn't you win
- 1:38:34Speaker 5: the Australian Madison Keys.
- 1:38:36Speaker 2: I don't know. I forget.
- 1:38:38Speaker 5: This is worse than I'm lost.
- 1:38:39Speaker 7: When we're talking basketball, we'll get that.
- 1:38:42Speaker 2: There's there's some good women. Yeah. On one of his shows,
- 1:38:47Speaker 2: Barth mentioned that the most frustrating part about the pages
- 1:38:51Speaker 2: drafting gently at four would be not able to see
- 1:38:54Speaker 2: Evans live reaction. Fred, I'm begging you find a way
- 1:38:58Speaker 2: to work, Alex. We will be raft day stream, even
- 1:39:01Speaker 2: if it's via zoom. If there's a chance Barth can
- 1:39:03Speaker 2: witness and comment on the unraveling of Evan Lazar, we'd
- 1:39:07Speaker 2: be eternally grateful. Shout out to Mike forgetting the ball
- 1:39:10Speaker 2: rolling on this conversation. There's a chance However, small Evan
- 1:39:14Speaker 2: is institutionalized if we pick genty, and that's the only
- 1:39:18Speaker 2: way we can justify taking a running back in round one.
- 1:39:21Speaker 2: So he wants to see you in a in a
- 1:39:23Speaker 2: institutional but a lot.
- 1:39:28Speaker 4: But I'm going to be I'll be professional about it
- 1:39:31Speaker 4: and i will save my thoughts for off the air.
- 1:39:34Speaker 5: Oh boy, see the.
- 1:39:35Speaker 7: Real reaction that will be like you see it on Slack.
- 1:39:37Speaker 7: It comes through like a second early, but you're holding
- 1:39:39Speaker 7: it in and what.
- 1:39:41Speaker 2: Spot's playing, you'll see it on slack.
- 1:39:43Speaker 4: He usually does, you know, the media worker room. Angle's
- 1:39:47Speaker 4: not He's not gonna be live on any of the shows.
- 1:39:50Speaker 4: I would assume that they'll have him do spots throughout
- 1:39:53Speaker 4: the night.
- 1:39:54Speaker 2: We can have him as a spot guest.
- 1:39:55Speaker 4: Yeah, come on, absolutely sure, that's I mean, that's not
- 1:39:59Speaker 4: my call.
- 1:39:59Speaker 2: You're sniff there for Framer, I'm.
- 1:40:07Speaker 10: Everyone.
- 1:40:07Speaker 4: He would really get a kick out of out of
- 1:40:09Speaker 4: the draft party. You know, that's that's right up his alley.
- 1:40:13Speaker 4: How cool is this?
- 1:40:13Speaker 2: Like all these people might even actually have a beer
- 1:40:15Speaker 2: and lose it. Yeah, right, exactly, Okay, let's oh, Patty's
- 1:40:20Speaker 2: back on the line. What's up, Patty?
- 1:40:24Speaker 9: Hey, good afternoon, gentlemen, how are you good? I got
- 1:40:29Speaker 9: questions for fred and and for Evan Freddy. I know
- 1:40:32Speaker 9: you said you're not gonna wear the Tucks, but just
- 1:40:35Speaker 9: in case two quarterbacks are taken in the top three,
- 1:40:38Speaker 9: will you at least bring the Tucks to the draft party?
- 1:40:40Speaker 2: The no, no, no, it's it's this doesn't This isn't
- 1:40:45Speaker 2: a Tucks draft. This is a blue collar draft, all right?
- 1:40:49Speaker 9: I gotcha? Fair enough? Heaven a couple of quick ones
- 1:40:53Speaker 9: for you and I'll take him off the air. One
- 1:40:56Speaker 9: of the things I don't think we ever hear about
- 1:40:58Speaker 9: Travis Hunter, just in case he is there. Four, is
- 1:41:01Speaker 9: how good of a separatory is?
- 1:41:02Speaker 5: Then?
- 1:41:02Speaker 9: I'm assuming that you watched the film on them, So
- 1:41:05Speaker 9: if you have, just how good of a separator is?
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: The d question?
- 1:41:10Speaker 2: Two?
- 1:41:10Speaker 9: Out of all the guys that you've watched so far,
- 1:41:12Speaker 9: out of all the wide receivers, who do you think
- 1:41:14Speaker 9: is the best separator? And I'll take it out there, guys.
- 1:41:16Speaker 4: Thanks, Okay, the best separator? That's a good question.
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: So first of all, what's Travis Hunter's reputation? Good separator
- 1:41:27Speaker 2: or not good?
- 1:41:28Speaker 4: I would say above average separator, great ball skills. I've
- 1:41:32Speaker 4: read him the catchpoint.
- 1:41:33Speaker 2: I've seen him make moves that just leave people.
- 1:41:37Speaker 5: In the dust.
- 1:41:37Speaker 4: Yeah, he definitely does separate. I think he's, you know,
- 1:41:40Speaker 4: around the seventieth percentile separation in terms of you know,
- 1:41:44Speaker 4: PFF and stuff like that. He can separate like that.
- 1:41:47Speaker 4: It's not a concern. But I would say his best
- 1:41:50Speaker 4: trade is his ball skills at the catchpoint, strong hands,
- 1:41:53Speaker 4: you know, ability to finish through contact. The best pure
- 1:41:57Speaker 4: separator in the draft, I would say it's probably a
- 1:42:01Speaker 4: two horse race between Matthew Golden and Jalen Noel from
- 1:42:06Speaker 4: Iowa State. I think both those guys are probably the
- 1:42:08Speaker 4: best pure separators in terms of route running technicians, you know,
- 1:42:11Speaker 4: your lad Maconkey's, you know, those types of guys.
- 1:42:14Speaker 6: You know.
- 1:42:15Speaker 4: Golden doesn't necessarily play to the four two nine. I
- 1:42:17Speaker 4: don't think he's that fast, but he's a technician and
- 1:42:20Speaker 4: he's a really good separated. He gets some Stefan Diggs comparisons,
- 1:42:24Speaker 4: you know, for ceiling comparisons, so he definitely gets open.
- 1:42:28Speaker 3: So I just don't think we talk much about like
- 1:42:29Speaker 3: what is Travis Hunter's ceiling as a receiver. As he
- 1:42:32Speaker 3: learns to run routes and learns the nuance of it
- 1:42:35Speaker 3: and really drills down on it.
- 1:42:36Speaker 6: You know.
- 1:42:36Speaker 3: It's one thing to look at him beating everybody, like
- 1:42:38Speaker 3: you guys said earlier, as a pure athlete, but when
- 1:42:40Speaker 3: he really becomes a polished wide receiver, like what does
- 1:42:44Speaker 3: that look like? And that's something you know, you don't
- 1:42:46Speaker 3: really there's a projection there. Even though he's an elite athlete,
- 1:42:49Speaker 3: there's a projection there.
- 1:42:50Speaker 4: And he's only twenty one years old.
- 1:42:52Speaker 2: Well, like Kevin said, in college, he didn't focus on
- 1:42:55Speaker 2: wide receiver, right, So he's.
- 1:42:57Speaker 3: Just out there beating guys on pure, pure skills and
- 1:43:00Speaker 3: speed and explosiveness, not the lab McConkey, who isn't going
- 1:43:03Speaker 3: to set the world on fire with his testing them,
- 1:43:05Speaker 3: but knows the little head dip and the little head
- 1:43:08Speaker 3: you know, and is able to with subtle movements by
- 1:43:11Speaker 3: himself separation.
- 1:43:12Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, he put up twelve hundred yards and
- 1:43:14Speaker 4: sixteen touchdowns on vibes like basically just being the best
- 1:43:18Speaker 4: player on the field. So now imagine we sprinkle in
- 1:43:21Speaker 4: some development and some some you know, wide receiver special
- 1:43:25Speaker 4: work like working on releases, working on the top of
- 1:43:28Speaker 4: the route, like all those different things, all of a sudden.
- 1:43:31Speaker 4: I think it's special the ceiling.
- 1:43:33Speaker 3: Him and Drake late in the down, Drake scrambling a
- 1:43:35Speaker 3: little bit. All of a sudden you get Travis Hunter
- 1:43:37Speaker 3: cooking through the middle of the field.
- 1:43:40Speaker 4: Now you're sticking my language.
- 1:43:42Speaker 2: Eldred's is in North Carolina. Hey, Aldred, Biggie, Hey, all right,
- 1:43:50Speaker 2: I gotta quint.
- 1:43:52Speaker 12: And like I said, there a duke car take them,
- 1:43:58Speaker 12: take them.
- 1:43:59Speaker 19: They didn't trade him in the first round.
- 1:44:01Speaker 20: Get a tackle.
- 1:44:03Speaker 12: But I know everybody won't.
- 1:44:06Speaker 20: Joe Milton gone.
- 1:44:07Speaker 19: So why is everybody, including Brian Hole, keep wanting to
- 1:44:11Speaker 19: get drafted?
- 1:44:12Speaker 20: Want to sit them out, you know, and we need
- 1:44:14Speaker 20: to pack up. I know, but we got job, but
- 1:44:16Speaker 20: I wouldn't trust jobs.
- 1:44:17Speaker 12: I don't have Milton back there backing up, mate.
- 1:44:21Speaker 20: Can anybody have that fortune?
- 1:44:22Speaker 12: Take it off there?
- 1:44:23Speaker 2: Okay, all right, thanks, thanks as got to get back
- 1:44:26Speaker 2: to truck.
- 1:44:26Speaker 3: If anybody wants to get rid of them, I just
- 1:44:28Speaker 3: think they might have er plus asset that you might
- 1:44:31Speaker 3: be able to get something significant. I don't necessarily, but
- 1:44:34Speaker 3: we don't necessarily think you're going to get something super significant.
- 1:44:36Speaker 5: But yeah, but I think people that are interested in
- 1:44:39Speaker 5: trading Milton think they're going to get it like a
- 1:44:41Speaker 5: second or third round.
- 1:44:42Speaker 2: Yeah. I think only they want to trade him if
- 1:44:44Speaker 2: they get something really good.
- 1:44:46Speaker 5: Right, Yeah, what is the Brian Hoyer that I miss?
- 1:44:49Speaker 3: Brian?
- 1:44:50Speaker 4: He must have said something on a podcast.
- 1:44:51Speaker 3: Oh okay, you can't trade that guy.
- 1:44:54Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:44:55Speaker 5: I would keep him because if if you think that
- 1:44:58Speaker 5: there might be some potential there, then you hold on
- 1:45:02Speaker 5: to him and you have him as a cheap backup.
- 1:45:05Speaker 2: And then will this be the most anticipated preseason and
- 1:45:08Speaker 2: Hatred's recent history? No?
- 1:45:10Speaker 5: Last year was you have the third overall pick and
- 1:45:13Speaker 5: you couldn't wait to see him play?
- 1:45:14Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:45:16Speaker 5: Right, it's gonna be cool too. But what if what
- 1:45:20Speaker 5: if he had a really good preseason?
- 1:45:22Speaker 2: Joe Milton?
- 1:45:22Speaker 5: Yeah, you might be able to might be a pump
- 1:45:25Speaker 5: his value.
- 1:45:26Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying.
- 1:45:27Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying too.
- 1:45:30Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:45:30Speaker 2: Marks in Connecticut? What's up? Mark?
- 1:45:34Speaker 3: Paul?
- 1:45:34Speaker 13: I hope you had a good vacation.
- 1:45:36Speaker 5: I did, thank you. I know the whole show.
- 1:45:40Speaker 11: Did I need you or.
- 1:45:43Speaker 12: Any of you guys to answer this question? We're talking,
- 1:45:46Speaker 12: you know, half an inch on a guy's arm. It
- 1:45:49Speaker 12: doesn't make any sense to me. Will Campbell, you don't
- 1:45:52Speaker 12: block with your arms out, you block with your hands in. No,
- 1:45:58Speaker 12: So what I don't understand is why is it that
- 1:46:00Speaker 12: we're talking about a half an inch if the guy's
- 1:46:02Speaker 12: gonna play tackle a ard.
- 1:46:04Speaker 2: Well that your your your premise is incorrect. When at
- 1:46:08Speaker 2: when you're out the outside of the line, your reach
- 1:46:11Speaker 2: does matter because you you start that way with that
- 1:46:15Speaker 2: initial punch, so you're you, you don't want to get
- 1:46:18Speaker 2: the guy close in. If you're a center a guard,
- 1:46:21Speaker 2: it's that's not as important. But when you're out there
- 1:46:23Speaker 2: on that island, you do need to get your arm
- 1:46:26Speaker 2: out and keep the distance between the rusher and you
- 1:46:29Speaker 2: because if they get close in, then they use your
- 1:46:31Speaker 2: own leverage against you.
- 1:46:35Speaker 12: What is that quarter to what happened? It's really going
- 1:46:37Speaker 12: to make a difference.
- 1:46:37Speaker 2: Well that's the question. That's the question.
- 1:46:40Speaker 5: You know it could. Yeah, NFL coaches believe it.
- 1:46:44Speaker 2: Okay, thanks, And.
- 1:46:45Speaker 4: It's not just like a quarter or a half Inchury
- 1:46:47Speaker 4: have to keep like he's below the threshold that was
- 1:46:50Speaker 4: reset right already. So he used to be thirty four inches,
- 1:46:53Speaker 4: then they reset it to thirty three and now he's
- 1:46:56Speaker 4: even below that threshold, right, So we're not really talking
- 1:46:59Speaker 4: about more like an inch or to an inch and
- 1:47:02Speaker 4: a half that he of ideal armleights, like thirty four
- 1:47:05Speaker 4: is still ideal. You just feel like you can get
- 1:47:08Speaker 4: away with thirty three.
- 1:47:09Speaker 5: And you know the Dante party was.
- 1:47:11Speaker 2: The greatest left tackle with short arms of all time.
- 1:47:15Speaker 4: Well, Joe Thomas had short arms. And you know he
- 1:47:19Speaker 4: always comes out this time of year and tries to
- 1:47:21Speaker 4: advocate for the short arms.
- 1:47:23Speaker 2: But what does that mean short?
- 1:47:24Speaker 4: I want to say thirty three and a half? You
- 1:47:26Speaker 4: know something. You know he was in the thirty three
- 1:47:28Speaker 4: OK range, but he wasn't overly long, like he didn't
- 1:47:32Speaker 4: have like Tyron Smith's level length, you know, and he's
- 1:47:37Speaker 4: maybe the best left tackle of all time.
- 1:47:39Speaker 5: I might be interested in Dante who says that this
- 1:47:41Speaker 5: guy can play tackle if that is accurate with the
- 1:47:43Speaker 5: emailer before said attributed to Dante, and I would I
- 1:47:47Speaker 5: would that would wait, that would mean a lot to me,
- 1:47:49Speaker 5: you know what done Dante feels. But I'm not interested
- 1:47:53Speaker 5: in having a tackle who can play tackle with the
- 1:47:56Speaker 5: fourth pick. I want that tackle to be a dominant tackle.
- 1:47:59Speaker 5: If I'm going to take him fourth, I want Trent Williams,
- 1:48:03Speaker 5: you know, I want like a top and high. You know,
- 1:48:06Speaker 5: someone brought up the fact that you know where I
- 1:48:09Speaker 5: think it was Randy, that we're overlooking a little bit
- 1:48:12Speaker 5: the problems with the short arms. Look at what Joe
- 1:48:15Speaker 5: Toney did. Joe Toney can clearly play tackle in the NFL.
- 1:48:19Speaker 5: He got beaten badly in the Super Bowl, but he
- 1:48:22Speaker 5: played at an acceptable level prior to that. But there
- 1:48:26Speaker 5: is limitations that come with your body type, and you
- 1:48:29Speaker 5: saw that in the Super Bowl. I don't want that
- 1:48:31Speaker 5: with the fourth overall pick. I don't want a guy
- 1:48:34Speaker 5: who can get by because he's good enough to get by,
- 1:48:37Speaker 5: but he's going to get victimized from time to time
- 1:48:39Speaker 5: because his arms are too short. I'm going to use
- 1:48:42Speaker 5: the fourth overall pick on him.
- 1:48:43Speaker 4: I think all these guys have that though, Like I,
- 1:48:47Speaker 4: if you're not getting those two top guys, like you're
- 1:48:50Speaker 4: you're picking from flawed options Like Ted McMillan is not
- 1:48:53Speaker 4: a typical top five receiver. You know, Mason Graham's undersized, well,
- 1:48:57Speaker 4: Campbell's undersize like you know.
- 1:48:59Speaker 5: It just you So it's a problem.
- 1:49:01Speaker 4: It's picked the lesser of the evils, Like which one
- 1:49:04Speaker 4: would you rather? Like, I'm with you if Joe Thomas
- 1:49:06Speaker 4: was in this draft, then obviously we'd be running the
- 1:49:08Speaker 4: card up there at four overall. But that player doesn't
- 1:49:11Speaker 4: exist necessarily in this draft outside of those top two guys.
- 1:49:14Speaker 4: So it's just what you have to pick your poison
- 1:49:17Speaker 4: a little bit with this class of what would you
- 1:49:19Speaker 4: rather live with?
- 1:49:20Speaker 5: Not an easy choice they're gonna have to weigh. I
- 1:49:23Speaker 5: would say anywhere between a half dozen to a dozen
- 1:49:25Speaker 5: guys that I think, as Evan said earlier in the show,
- 1:49:28Speaker 5: you could talk yourself into.
- 1:49:29Speaker 2: Yeah, Bill in San Diego, says Paul exclamations. Agassy won
- 1:49:35Speaker 2: eight majors, four Aussi's, two US, one Wimbledon, one French,
- 1:49:39Speaker 2: plus he won a gold medal. Sampress won fourteen, but
- 1:49:43Speaker 2: no French, no gold medals. Agassy was a much more
- 1:49:46Speaker 2: rounded player.
- 1:49:47Speaker 5: That'sampers is a vastly superior player at August.
- 1:49:50Speaker 2: Sampress couldn't win on slower surfaces.
- 1:49:52Speaker 5: That's like Sampress is a better player than Agassy. As
- 1:49:57Speaker 5: the tennis expert. Please, well, I.
- 1:49:58Speaker 2: Think on those majors he certainly was, but he never
- 1:50:02Speaker 2: won on clay. So but then again, Borg never won
- 1:50:05Speaker 2: the US.
- 1:50:05Speaker 5: Open, so does that mean he wasn't that good. There's
- 1:50:07Speaker 5: a lot of guys that are more suited, like to
- 1:50:10Speaker 5: individual services.
- 1:50:11Speaker 4: But I feel like, if you can't win on clay, Paul,
- 1:50:13Speaker 4: then how good are you?
- 1:50:15Speaker 5: I think it's the opposite. I think clay is the neutral.
- 1:50:19Speaker 5: I think because Sampras was so much better, the clay
- 1:50:22Speaker 5: slowed him down. Yeah, and he had a hard time.
- 1:50:26Speaker 5: I think winning on grass or like the hard course
- 1:50:29Speaker 5: is more impressive than clay. Now they're all great, I
- 1:50:32Speaker 5: mean I'm not. You know, like Rafael on the dollar
- 1:50:34Speaker 5: won how many frenches a million? Like approximately, he's one
- 1:50:38Speaker 5: of the one of the handful of greatest tennis players
- 1:50:40Speaker 5: ever five maybe, and he won how many clays? How
- 1:50:44Speaker 5: many on french tons?
- 1:50:46Speaker 2: He was the ten yeah right, yeah, but he also
- 1:50:49Speaker 2: wanted the US Open, right, you know.
- 1:50:51Speaker 5: I just I feel like Sampras was a far better
- 1:50:54Speaker 5: player than I think Agasy was a lot of flash.
- 1:50:57Speaker 5: Oh no, there was a lot of fun. He was good.
- 1:50:59Speaker 3: He was good.
- 1:51:00Speaker 5: He was Sampras is one of the all time great.
- 1:51:02Speaker 2: Agassy was one of the best returners ever. He ever.
- 1:51:05Speaker 5: I just don't think he was just going to sanprs
- 1:51:08Speaker 5: he does. I don't think that means he don't say
- 1:51:10Speaker 5: he was flash. He was about flash.
- 1:51:13Speaker 2: Why because he had a wig. You know, he wore
- 1:51:15Speaker 2: a wig.
- 1:51:15Speaker 5: He wore a wig, and he had high profile marriages.
- 1:51:19Speaker 2: Back then he was a little bit. He's turned his
- 1:51:21Speaker 2: life around.
- 1:51:23Speaker 4: I got I'm gonna have that with tennis players, you
- 1:51:26Speaker 4: gotta have some bizaz like it's not that's why you
- 1:51:30Speaker 4: know Roger Feederer, you know, like awesome players like fred
- 1:51:33Speaker 4: I like I didn't eat was she.
- 1:51:36Speaker 3: And anything less would be uncivilized? Was that an Angasy?
- 1:51:38Speaker 3: What was Agassy's big ads? He used to do.
- 1:51:41Speaker 2: Agassy's big ads? He probably had something.
- 1:51:44Speaker 5: I'm thinking he had a lot of them. Didn't think
- 1:51:46Speaker 5: he had like a commercial married for a long time.
- 1:51:50Speaker 5: He was with Brookshields before that.
- 1:51:52Speaker 2: Those kids, those kids made it play some tennis Agasy.
- 1:51:55Speaker 5: And they've been married for a while. They actually do pickleball. Now, yeah,
- 1:51:58Speaker 5: I know you probably don't want it like that at all.
- 1:52:00Speaker 5: You don't like the pickle just brushing it and pickle ball, well,
- 1:52:03Speaker 5: they play against other former like there.
- 1:52:06Speaker 7: Was Macelnoy to watch Agasy like just kind of you know,
- 1:52:12Speaker 7: you can't.
- 1:52:14Speaker 5: Smash each other.
- 1:52:16Speaker 2: They were watching Agacy came Agassy had the big.
- 1:52:19Speaker 5: You know he's talking about what he's talking about Pickle,
- 1:52:22Speaker 5: But they smashed at each other. Watch but the balls
- 1:52:25Speaker 5: it doesn't go as fast, but they smashed it.
- 1:52:30Speaker 4: Fred's discussed for pickles.
- 1:52:33Speaker 5: Why throw the bus on that?
- 1:52:35Speaker 2: Watch the good It can be a fast game. It's
- 1:52:37Speaker 2: very you know quick.
- 1:52:39Speaker 5: And I know you're right about Agassy he was. He
- 1:52:42Speaker 5: was great too. I just think Sanprus was a better player.
- 1:52:44Speaker 2: That's fine.
- 1:52:45Speaker 5: And I think it was not really close. Flouteen to
- 1:52:47Speaker 5: eight to me is not close. That's double them up now,
- 1:52:52Speaker 5: that's close.
- 1:52:53Speaker 4: It's definitely not close.
- 1:52:56Speaker 2: Not close game for Paul. Given that Paul said that
- 1:53:00Speaker 2: he wouldn't pick Matt Light at number four, even given
- 1:53:03Speaker 2: his solid career with the Patriots, which of these players
- 1:53:06Speaker 2: would Paul pick at number four? I just had a gyro.
- 1:53:10Speaker 2: You let me be, I might need a bib. Which
- 1:53:14Speaker 2: of these players would Paul pick at number four? Knowing
- 1:53:17Speaker 2: their career path? The caveat is that you either picked
- 1:53:20Speaker 2: them at four or you lose them ty law, I
- 1:53:24Speaker 2: take Tylard for Rodney Harrison.
- 1:53:28Speaker 5: Take Tyler Rodney Harrison at four, but have a little biasedness.
- 1:53:31Speaker 5: They're not gonna lie.
- 1:53:32Speaker 2: Favorite guy Vince Wilfork no, Logan Mankins no, Gronk yes, yes,
- 1:53:41Speaker 2: mccordy no, Wes Welker no, and lastly Drew Bledsoe Yeah, yes, okay.
- 1:53:49Speaker 5: One first, or take him at one.
- 1:53:51Speaker 3: Okay, that's I'm pretty lotched up with you on those ones.
- 1:53:54Speaker 5: That's a great game. That's a great game. Obviously I
- 1:53:57Speaker 5: would take all of those guys. They were all fantas
- 1:54:00Speaker 5: astic draft picks.
- 1:54:01Speaker 3: But overall, you know, you can get another nose tackles,
- 1:54:04Speaker 3: you can find the slot receiver.
- 1:54:05Speaker 5: He left one off there going in the way back machine.
- 1:54:08Speaker 5: Who I actually think was chosen with the fourth overall selection,
- 1:54:11Speaker 5: John Hannah.
- 1:54:12Speaker 3: Ye, different game back then different got a running.
- 1:54:15Speaker 5: Correct correct always cover your back, right, But I.
- 1:54:23Speaker 3: Skinless Chicken, the same thing.
- 1:54:25Speaker 4: But see, I think if it was just you got
- 1:54:27Speaker 4: to adjust to this draft, like Matt Light at four
- 1:54:30Speaker 4: overall in this draft might not be a bad pick.
- 1:54:34Speaker 5: Which is exposing me for being a little bit Paul
- 1:54:37Speaker 5: stubborn and not necessarily taking that into consideration. Yeah, you
- 1:54:41Speaker 5: guys are probably right. The email clearly had an opinion.
- 1:54:44Speaker 5: I think Evan same thing. Yeah, I probably would have
- 1:54:47Speaker 5: to take Matt Light at four in this draft right,
- 1:54:50Speaker 5: in this draft, in this draft, right. So I was
- 1:54:53Speaker 5: probably a little bit rash.
- 1:54:55Speaker 2: With that Jake and Melbourne Australia twelve months on. Knowing
- 1:55:00Speaker 2: what we know about the top three quarterbacks from last
- 1:55:03Speaker 2: year's draft, who would each of the PU crew take
- 1:55:06Speaker 2: if starting their own team. I think his upsides more
- 1:55:12Speaker 2: than Drake May Yep, you do. Yeah, you don't think
- 1:55:15Speaker 2: we've seen what we're going to see out of Jayden Daniels.
- 1:55:20Speaker 2: In other words, better is he gonna get?
- 1:55:23Speaker 5: I think he'll get better as he gets experience ridiculously
- 1:55:28Speaker 5: high level and it's not like he was along for
- 1:55:31Speaker 5: the ride. It wasn't like a mac Jones in twenty
- 1:55:33Speaker 5: one where he was handing the ball off and throwing
- 1:55:36Speaker 5: three yard passes.
- 1:55:37Speaker 4: You can make a case he was a top five
- 1:55:38Speaker 4: quarterback in the league as a rookie, which is crazy.
- 1:55:42Speaker 5: He was a large part of the reason that they
- 1:55:45Speaker 5: were winning.
- 1:55:47Speaker 2: H Nicholas from Oslo, Norway. If the Patriots signed Tyron
- 1:55:51Speaker 2: Smith to a one year contract and kick the can
- 1:55:53Speaker 2: down the road on left tackle, do next year's prospects
- 1:55:56Speaker 2: look better than this year's.
- 1:55:58Speaker 3: Oh boy, it's.
- 1:55:58Speaker 4: Always tough to do that. It's you know, you have
- 1:56:01Speaker 4: a whole another college football season to go, so I
- 1:56:04Speaker 4: couldn't say definitively. I know it's supposed to be a
- 1:56:07Speaker 4: little bit of a better receiver class next year, but
- 1:56:10Speaker 4: not by much. Really. The receiver class everybody's waiting for
- 1:56:13Speaker 4: is two years from now and Jeremiah Smith and Williams
- 1:56:15Speaker 4: come out.
- 1:56:16Speaker 5: So the two like seventeen year old freshman.
- 1:56:19Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's you know, it's too soon to tell.
- 1:56:23Speaker 5: What do we think of Tyrone Smith?
- 1:56:25Speaker 2: I like him.
- 1:56:26Speaker 5: I wanted them last year.
- 1:56:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I like him for one year.
- 1:56:29Speaker 5: Ye didn't everybody tell me he refused to talk to
- 1:56:31Speaker 5: them last year.
- 1:56:32Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:56:32Speaker 2: Oh I didn't hear that.
- 1:56:34Speaker 5: I didn't hear you signed him this year.
- 1:56:37Speaker 2: But I like him this year. But you know, it's
- 1:56:39Speaker 2: not my money, and they have a lot of it.
- 1:56:42Speaker 2: But I wouldn't go over twelve million for him, you know.
- 1:56:47Speaker 2: And I heard it's looking for like eighteen maybe it's
- 1:56:51Speaker 2: going on.
- 1:56:51Speaker 5: So just to play devil's advocate, like, what would your
- 1:56:55Speaker 5: rationale be for not wanting to give him six more million?
- 1:56:58Speaker 2: Locker room culture paying him so much, and then we're
- 1:57:01Speaker 2: going to say that a lot he's gonna he's going
- 1:57:03Speaker 2: to practice two days a week.
- 1:57:04Speaker 5: And but is that a lot eighteen million for a
- 1:57:07Speaker 5: starting left tackle.
- 1:57:09Speaker 2: Well, he's not. He's probably not gonna play every game,
- 1:57:11Speaker 2: you know that.
- 1:57:12Speaker 5: Okay, Well, what if he plays fourteen games? Then I
- 1:57:16Speaker 5: have to maybe recon Morgan Moses.
- 1:57:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't. I think Morgan Moses is more durable.
- 1:57:23Speaker 4: It's probably fair.
- 1:57:24Speaker 5: Yeah, I think at this stage of your career, you're
- 1:57:26Speaker 5: probably not expecting seventeen guys.
- 1:57:28Speaker 2: You don't want to make to manage both. But Tyron Smith,
- 1:57:31Speaker 2: he's been breaking.
- 1:57:32Speaker 5: Down absolutely, You're right. Yeah, I would take him, And
- 1:57:34Speaker 5: I love you know that much. I love I know,
- 1:57:36Speaker 5: I know you do. I would take him in a blank.
- 1:57:38Speaker 5: I would have taken him last year. I think they
- 1:57:39Speaker 5: made a mistake not going after him last year. And
- 1:57:41Speaker 5: didn't you only get like fifteen million last year?
- 1:57:43Speaker 4: Yeah, a lot of his deal last year was incentively
- 1:57:46Speaker 4: and based off of how many games he played, you
- 1:57:48Speaker 4: know that sort of stuff.
- 1:57:49Speaker 2: So, okay, I'm willing to do that.
- 1:57:51Speaker 5: I like the emailer's plan.
- 1:57:53Speaker 2: If he's willing to do an incentive laden contract, let's go.
- 1:57:56Speaker 5: Well, I just give him the money. They have the money.
- 1:57:58Speaker 5: What are we saving it for him?
- 1:58:00Speaker 4: Be the only thing that's left for him. You know,
- 1:58:01Speaker 4: if he had a contract that was full of guaranteed money,
- 1:58:04Speaker 4: I'm sure he would be signed already.
- 1:58:05Speaker 5: Yeah, I would take him. You want to talk about
- 1:58:08Speaker 5: pro to he wants to go to a contender he is,
- 1:58:11Speaker 5: He's the guy. I would take him in a blink.
- 1:58:13Speaker 2: He was made in a lab Gary from Harvard, the town,
- 1:58:17Speaker 2: not the school. For anyone who wants to see any
- 1:58:20Speaker 2: pick trade, I have a question. Should the Patriots propose
- 1:58:23Speaker 2: it before the draft starts or wait to see if
- 1:58:25Speaker 2: anyone offers a better haul once the Patriots are on
- 1:58:27Speaker 2: the clock. Obviously, trading down early risks missing out on
- 1:58:30Speaker 2: a blue chip if two quarterbacks go in the top three.
- 1:58:33Speaker 2: But there are risks in waiting too. All desirable players
- 1:58:36Speaker 2: are gone, and and one wants to trade, and best
- 1:58:38Speaker 2: partners do some other trades that disables this one. So
- 1:58:41Speaker 2: he's talking about strategy. When do you trade picks? What's
- 1:58:45Speaker 2: the best time.
- 1:58:46Speaker 3: I think he got to wait with those with Carter
- 1:58:48Speaker 3: and Hunter, potentially even it's out there that they might fall,
- 1:58:51Speaker 3: I think he got a wait to see.
- 1:58:53Speaker 5: I would agree with Mike, and I think in general terms,
- 1:58:55Speaker 5: the teams have an idea of what's going to happen
- 1:58:58Speaker 5: that we don't know. They have intel on that.
- 1:59:01Speaker 3: Well, they've all been talking already, right, And I would.
- 1:59:03Speaker 5: Think that you get the groundwork for a trade done
- 1:59:05Speaker 5: ahead of time, but I wouldn't do it until them.
- 1:59:08Speaker 2: One of the most hated callers is on the line,
- 1:59:11Speaker 2: Christian from La Christian.
- 1:59:14Speaker 19: I know right, Christian, I have become the guy that
- 1:59:17Speaker 19: people want to respond to directly, like the JABRONI last week.
- 1:59:21Speaker 20: Or who with the hammer?
- 1:59:22Speaker 2: And who the Briggs?
- 1:59:23Speaker 3: You know what?
- 1:59:24Speaker 13: What's going on?
- 1:59:25Speaker 14: Guys?
- 1:59:26Speaker 2: How you doing? Heay?
- 1:59:28Speaker 20: So here's the thing that my friend was talking yesterday,
- 1:59:31Speaker 20: and we said, if we took the Patriots teams that
- 1:59:36Speaker 20: at least made the NFC Championship, and we put togeler
- 1:59:39Speaker 20: a tournament of just those teams, which team do you
- 1:59:43Speaker 20: guys think would come out top of the car. You
- 1:59:45Speaker 20: can't obviously say, you know, the undefeated team besides the
- 1:59:49Speaker 20: defeated team, which team if we bracketed all the Patriots
- 1:59:52Speaker 20: teams that made the the AFC Championship, which team do
- 1:59:56Speaker 20: you guys think would come on top?
- 1:59:57Speaker 4: Why can't you pick the undefeated team.
- 1:59:59Speaker 5: You're picking team you won, right, Well, okay, four? Are
- 2:00:02Speaker 5: you asking who I think the best team was that
- 2:00:04Speaker 5: they never had is two thousand and four. In my opinion,
- 2:00:06Speaker 5: it's not so much.
- 2:00:07Speaker 20: About the best team sometimes, right, it's about the team
- 2:00:09Speaker 20: that would win the game based on styles like some
- 2:00:12Speaker 20: teams we have more.
- 2:00:13Speaker 5: Two thousand and four. Yeah, four could win anyway anyway
- 2:00:15Speaker 5: they want.
- 2:00:16Speaker 2: They once and they could beat you with defense. They
- 2:00:18Speaker 2: beat you with yours and they were well rounded, like
- 2:00:21Speaker 2: Andre Agassy, they were well, they.
- 2:00:23Speaker 5: Were well rounded, but not as good as Pete Sampers.
- 2:00:25Speaker 2: I'm not as good as seven. I take they were
- 2:00:28Speaker 2: better than seven Pete Samples was better than seven. Four
- 2:00:31Speaker 2: team Agassy Yeah better than seven?
- 2:00:33Speaker 19: Yepte?
- 2:00:36Speaker 2: Who's on first?
- 2:00:37Speaker 19: I got who's the one team?
- 2:00:40Speaker 2: Who's the one team?
- 2:00:42Speaker 3: Uh?
- 2:00:42Speaker 5: They're in the playing tournament with the eighteen team.
- 2:00:45Speaker 2: Yeah, there you go.
- 2:00:48Speaker 19: But so this thing, you guys know people that directly
- 2:00:52Speaker 19: better than Augusty just because of records, Like we all
- 2:00:55Speaker 19: know people people viewed Aaron Rodgers as the best quarterback
- 2:00:59Speaker 19: basically ever, mechanically and gil wise, although Tom Brady is
- 2:01:04Speaker 19: the best because he has the most championships, right, No, I.
- 2:01:07Speaker 5: Think Brady is a better player, Like in those all
- 2:01:10Speaker 5: those things that you're talking about count and when you're
- 2:01:13Speaker 5: categorizing a player, how they play in the clutch, how
- 2:01:15Speaker 5: they come from behind, how they lead their teams. That
- 2:01:18Speaker 5: that all counts. And Brady's better than Rogers and all
- 2:01:21Speaker 5: those regards. Now, if you want to say best passer,
- 2:01:24Speaker 5: then you might have an argument that Rogers is the best.
- 2:01:26Speaker 2: Now you're talking about like Rogers and Marino.
- 2:01:29Speaker 5: Right, they might. They might throw the ball physically better
- 2:01:32Speaker 5: than Brady George. They're not better quarterbacks than Braid. I
- 2:01:34Speaker 5: don't think a lot of people think Rogers is a
- 2:01:35Speaker 5: better quarterback than see Jeff George throw good looking, seriously
- 2:01:40Speaker 5: Joe Milton esque, unbelievable, Jeff George.
- 2:01:46Speaker 2: Thanks Christian, we got to Gotriots two one.
- 2:01:51Speaker 5: There's an argument for that.
