- 0:00All the billahi Min ash-shaytani.
- 0:01No, no James Miller of mannerheim respected, brothers
- 0:04and sisters, salam-o-alaikum, but I thought a lot and welcome
- 0:07back to the aftermath of the podcast before we get into the
- 0:09discussion. I just want to say thank you to
- 0:11everyone who's engaged recently, an, especially over the Muharram
- 0:14and suffer season. It's been an absolute eye-opener
- 0:17for us. And, of course, we've learned so
- 0:18much from you also, thank you for that.
- 0:20But today, brothers sisters, we want to talk about a topic which
- 0:23is really interesting, and I think quite relevant nowadays.
- 0:26The idea that no one can judge me.
- 0:29Except Only God can judge me and in doing so there's no
- 0:33compulsion in religion that it could all have 15.
- 0:35This is a narrative, which we've been seeing a lot online
- 0:38recently and we wanted to get into this to analyze it, to
- 0:41discuss it. And as always I would say
- 0:43highly. I'll make him say quick, quick,
- 0:50slow mo are doing on the law, Abdullah Abdullah.
- 0:53IBN Mubarak. We are all out of the season of
- 0:56Muharram and suffering on. We are indeed and I'm looking
- 0:59forward to all the celebrations in sha.
- 1:01Allah, you shall have the Muslim Community.
- 1:03All of us together, shot around inshallah inshallah, double
- 1:06overlays a month where we have a load of things to celebrate each
- 1:09other. We're going to be talking about
- 1:11these things in the coming weeks and hopefully doing a
- 1:13celebration on the podcast as well as to keep an eye out for
- 1:16that. We are really lucky and blessed
- 1:18to be joined. By none other than Chef selling
- 1:21Benji. Some way they can share now
- 1:22while they can slam off until then, thank you so much for
- 1:25being here. Thank you for having me here
- 1:26tonight on this program, not to you, or to a chef come, all the
- 1:30way from Canada. How has your time been in the
- 1:32UK? You know, so far so good.
- 1:34I've been able to interact with some of the communities in
- 1:37Birmingham, specifically. And in London, yeah, kind of
- 1:40meet some of the Young Generation we can say, I think
- 1:42as well and get a feeling, get a pulse of what's happening on the
- 1:45ground over here. Nice recognizing that some of
- 1:48the Has that that we have in Canada are similar over here?
- 1:52Yeah, so the ocean might divide us but our challenges kind of
- 1:55United's together and hopefully that means our Solutions can be
- 1:58a common solution, right? For the challenges that we both
- 2:00are facing on this. In this time that we live in
- 2:03right now sha sha Allah. I don't think just all
- 2:06challenges. You know, it's also our coffee
- 2:08because now we've got a lot more Tim Hortons.
- 2:10Well, so don't Park Royal. Yeah, everybody's popping up in
- 2:15the Canadian influence Marshall lives for those who don't know.
- 2:19To say just before we actually started the podcast when the
- 2:21check arrived at Mission to Morton's because that's the
- 2:23first thing I can remember, being in Canada's the staple
- 2:27branch of vanilla latte. For those who don't know, Chef
- 2:32Salim. I'll tell you a bit about him
- 2:33and his background. Of course, this doesn't do
- 2:35justice to his really impressive and extensive CV or resume for
- 2:38listening from North America, but the sure grew up in Canada.
- 2:42He then traveled to the holy city of come to pursue Islamic
- 2:45Studies and then after that, he returned to Canada if I'm not
- 2:47mistaken, correct? He's also the director of the
- 2:51Tuscany mr. Chu?
- 2:52No no. It's like Publishing House.
- 2:54Okay? Nice Marshall.
- 2:55Yes. Yeah.
- 2:56Okay, fantastic. And on top of that as well, the
- 2:58Shockers working with the Alcazar Foundation to work on
- 3:01eight volumes of commentary in the English language to farseer
- 3:05of the Holy Quran, due to be released, and Charles in the
- 3:07next six or seven years and shoulder volume, 1 will be in
- 3:10the New Year from January. And then one year of Subs, one
- 3:13volume per year subsequently after that.
- 3:15Okay, fantastic, fantastic. So, you were really lucky to
- 3:18have the show. We are indeed and I was telling
- 3:21the chef is you're very familiar found out you've crossed paths I
- 3:25believe elevated we had somewhere in 2016.
- 3:28Yes such a pleasure having you here.
- 3:30Thank you once again but more importantly is pleasure that I
- 3:33believe not just myself and am table, everyone watching or
- 3:35listening wherever they are on the world.
- 3:37They're going to gain from the sea of knowledge that we have
- 3:39on. You do our best inshallah we can
- 3:41do in Charlotte. Now, I don't know how we will
- 3:44ensure love start this conversation because I feel like
- 3:46I'm a student sitting beside you beside you.
- 3:49Have a question if I'm allowed to personally go ahead and it's,
- 3:52you know, I have many friends and handle are part of a huge
- 3:56Community here in the UK. And I see a statement that a lot
- 4:00of people always say. And it's whether you it's not
- 4:04about judging, it's about maybe telling them what's right what's
- 4:07wrong. And they always say, only Allah
- 4:09can judge me. Now sometimes it makes us think
- 4:13are we being judgmental? Or are we right to judge
- 4:15someone? All we actually not judging
- 4:17anyone. Where do we stand with the
- 4:18statement? We tell, for example, you know,
- 4:20our brothers, our sisters, this is wrong, or this is what's
- 4:24right? Where do we stand as Muslims?
- 4:26When it comes to advising other brothers and sisters?
- 4:29Good, good question. I think, an important way to
- 4:32start the discussion. So I think at one level, when we
- 4:35say that only, God, can judge me, I think, to an extent where
- 4:38right meaning on the day of judgment when we are in the
- 4:42presence of our creator, obviously he will be the only
- 4:44one to judge us at that time. But I think at the same Time
- 4:49that we believe that God can only judge us.
- 4:51We recognize that in the life of this world.
- 4:55We do have Concepts within religion within Islam.
- 4:58Within the teachings of the often invade peace, be upon
- 5:00them. Where we are kind of expected to
- 5:03not necessarily judge one, another would help one another
- 5:06out on the path. So that for example, the Quran
- 5:10says, you know what to, I want to.
- 5:11I love building what taqwa. Well, doctor I want to a lift
- 5:14me. What would one that encouraged
- 5:16and helped one another towards piety and goodness?
- 5:19And kind of help dissuade other, you know, one another from sins
- 5:23and evilness, right? So there's this, I think there's
- 5:25a misconception that people have where we think.
- 5:29Well, you know, this person is doing something wrong, I
- 5:31shouldn't tell them, or, you know, where is we have to look
- 5:35at it as we're not trying to push or impose this llama on
- 5:38them but we are as, as believing brothers and sisters because we
- 5:42are awliya, we are friends and Protectors of one another that
- 5:45we want the best for one another, right?
- 5:47I want to get to heaven, but I want all of All of my brothers
- 5:50and sisters to get to heaven. And so if I can give a little
- 5:53bit of guidance to help them out because sometimes or I would say
- 5:57most of the time I don't think are believing brothers and
- 6:00sisters break the laws of God because intentionally don't like
- 6:03God or Allah or they want to displease the prophet or the 108
- 6:07peace. Be upon them.
- 6:08I think sometimes we just don't know better or we're stuck in a
- 6:11situation of a secular society and we're kind of were pushed
- 6:16into those kind of Corners, right?
- 6:18So, I think it's almost an obligation that we need to
- 6:22encourage one another towards goodness and peyote, it looks
- 6:25like we're kind of stepping on people's, you know, on their
- 6:28feet, on their toes, so to speak.
- 6:29But I think if we recognize it as a community, that we're all
- 6:33helping one, another get to the ideal path, then I'm not looking
- 6:37at it. That why is he?
- 6:38Or she telling me what to do. It's like, you know, thank you
- 6:40for helping me put myself straight, right?
- 6:44Did you think shift, of course luck?
- 6:46Especially nowadays. Instead, I'm sure you can agree.
- 6:48We live in. This post modern 21st century,
- 6:51social media age. Now, with with social media
- 6:56especially there's so many more Avenues to put yourself out
- 6:59there and then of course as a repercussions to them be judged.
- 7:02So every time I post something, I post a status, I post a photo,
- 7:05I post an opinion, there's a flurry of judgments and those
- 7:08judgments sometimes can be subtle so they can be in the
- 7:11form of like a reaction or an emoji or a like or dislike or
- 7:14something like that. So the the modern-day judging is
- 7:19An expanding the ways, in which we can judge people and
- 7:22nowadays. Sometimes, of course.
- 7:23There's there's, there's a term which you here, which is
- 7:27snowflakes, which you guys here, of course, and on the news and
- 7:30on Twitter and so on people will each other snowflakes and people
- 7:34saying that people, you know, deserve to be canceled and so on
- 7:37and all of it comes down to the concept of emotion.
- 7:41Now, to what degree in the religion of Islam, should we be
- 7:46emotional if that makes sense? And should we be Be allowed to
- 7:49have a response to someone's Judgment of us.
- 7:53Is it a case where, for example Allah, Subhan Allah tells us in
- 7:55the Holy Quran and I had the tells us I'm gonna build my own
- 7:57roof and that, you know, munch on so we should accept it or are
- 8:00we allowed to respond and to have an emotion?
- 8:04Mmm. So I think, you know, with all
- 8:07of the obligations, we have all of the photo and Dana's.
- 8:09We have the ten. Let's say, we know that there
- 8:12are prerequisites for all of them, right?
- 8:13Like if it's a lot time right now, I need to make will do or
- 8:16purify myself. I need to know the direction of
- 8:18the Qibla. And all the other rules with all
- 8:21of the photo ID and we have those similarly similar
- 8:24prerequisites, right. So when we come to a mobile
- 8:26model for not handling, one car encouraging, good and forbidding
- 8:29evil. There are multiple
- 8:31prerequisites. That have to be in place before
- 8:33I can even think about commenting on somebody on their
- 8:36on their status or on their, you know, their clothing or
- 8:40something or whatever that they're doing.
- 8:41Yeah. Right.
- 8:42So I think we also have to recognize that there are
- 8:44limitations There are rules that have to be followed and it's not
- 8:48just okay. I see somebody doing something
- 8:50wrong on social media, or even, you know, in person and, you
- 8:54know, in real life. And I that I need to, for
- 8:56example, immediately comments, and maybe even reprimand them,
- 8:59let's say right, there is so many things that we have to keep
- 9:02in mind, right? Just as an example, right, some
- 9:04the scholars say that when it comes to you see somebody doing
- 9:08wrong is that you have to know that they know the difference
- 9:11between right and wrong. If if you see somebody doing
- 9:14something that's not valid from the Islamic perspective, there's
- 9:18a different way that you have. Carry yourself and you have to
- 9:21know what they're doing is wrong many times.
- 9:23You know, I think people are not aware of what is happening and
- 9:28they see somebody doing something and they think, well,
- 9:30that's how am I need to go and correct?
- 9:32Correct them. Right.
- 9:33But if we don't, if we ourselves are not aware of the religion,
- 9:36and all the nuances than we're, not really, in a position to
- 9:39judge that person, right? We don't know what they're
- 9:41doing, why they're doing it? There may be other reasons why
- 9:44they're involved in something, you know, not to condone immuno
- 9:47impermissible actions. But we don't Know what's going
- 9:49on at that particular juncture in their life, right?
- 9:53I just give you a very, very practical example that actually
- 9:55happened to myself when I was working in the corporate world.
- 9:59So we had a team lunch with my director and my co-workers.
- 10:04And so I managed to get to the restaurant before my before my,
- 10:08you know, the rest of my team. So the next two team members
- 10:11that came were female. So now, we were sitting at the
- 10:13same table in a Halal restaurant and Canada, they're both Muslim,
- 10:17women, Maja Jabez, right? Um, now if somebody from our
- 10:21community were to come in and see that, what are they going to
- 10:23think about a bad impression, right?
- 10:25But they didn't, they would they're not have known that.
- 10:27Our team members were coming in a few minutes and we just
- 10:29happened to get to the restaurant wicker furniture.
- 10:31So you know, when we if we look at any incident in our lives
- 10:34like that whether it's on social media platform or in real life,
- 10:38we recognize that what we see is not necessarily what is
- 10:42happening behind the scenes, beautiful.
- 10:44So I think we always need to keep be careful, right?
- 10:46That we don't want to be judgmental.
- 10:48Play that holier-than-thou. Now card, recognize that what
- 10:51we're seeing might not necessarily be the entire
- 10:53picture when you try, right? Yeah.
- 10:55So no. I like that.
- 10:56You like that. Yeah, it's true.
- 10:57And I think say it is, well, you know, reminds me of it.
- 11:00Reminds me of discussions. We've had about mental health
- 11:06and so on of moves because people will, for example,
- 11:08sometimes react in spite or maybe an anger, but maybe like
- 11:13the sheriff said, we don't know how what someone's going
- 11:15through. We don't know what sort of
- 11:16challenges, they're facing, well, maybe they don't, they
- 11:18don't even What they're doing is wrong and that and sometimes we
- 11:22do things and we don't even know it's wrong.
- 11:24And we get told this wrong nothing, you know, Chef to
- 11:26mention two important words. You said, we want to encourage
- 11:28them and we want to help them. I didn't ever see it from that
- 11:32perspective, you know, because because the other side of the
- 11:35argument of the people that only say, Only God can judge me is
- 11:37that you guys are being too judgmental, but they've never
- 11:40seen as a way of actually trying to help or advice and support
- 11:43them, which is, I think very important that you mentioned.
- 11:46But you think share that this concept of like us Support
- 11:49system, is it? Our fault as a community that we
- 11:54that people have an impression and within the community, people
- 11:56have an impression of us being judgmental or community at large
- 11:58being a judgment or Community. Because when that counsel is
- 12:03given, for example, it doesn't come across as supportive and it
- 12:07may come across as as to couple for example, and looking down on
- 12:11someone and condescending in that sense.
- 12:13So what role do we have to play? Or how do we approach people?
- 12:16Because, of course we can we can say something I'm just trying to
- 12:18help you And so on, but it may come across the wrong way.
- 12:21So how do we approach that? I think like you mentioned that
- 12:24many times, it comes off as a very condescending attitude of
- 12:27the whole year. They'll holier-than-thou
- 12:29perception, right? And I think it has to do with
- 12:31maybe again, the way that we have looked at religion and how
- 12:35these obligations have to be put in place, right?
- 12:38Like I mean if you look at Even in our traditional medressa
- 12:41system, right? How many hours and and and
- 12:44sessions are devoted to how to make will do how to pray the
- 12:47Salat, right? Everybody singled out.
- 12:49And all these things we learn in detail in medressa fasting, how
- 12:52to fast all the, you know, the doubts.
- 12:54If you do this wrong, how you break your fast, but I would ask
- 12:57myself and you know, ask both of you as well.
- 12:59That I think both, you probably went through some other as a
- 13:02system or some form of learning for our of our religious studies
- 13:05at how how many hours or weeks did your teacher dedicate to
- 13:09encouraging good and forbidding evil.
- 13:11And I'm going to build my roof and nothing under the moniker.
- 13:13Like how much what we taught of the rules and recommendations
- 13:16and and methodology and how to speak to People like, did we
- 13:19ever learn their mother? So how to how to speak to people
- 13:23and how to help them. Write like Allah says, in the
- 13:25Quran, for example, what we lost a billion, Rebecca will hit
- 13:28Mighty Wilma with their tail hasanah.
- 13:30You know, invite people to the way of your lord, not through
- 13:33yelling and screaming and, you know, you know, violent
- 13:36aggression. It's through beautiful,
- 13:39exhortation to encouragement, to words of guidance.
- 13:42But have you ever been taught that in a madrasa system?
- 13:44I'd have our elderly generation the seniors and that generation
- 13:48where Were they ever taught how to speak to people to encourage
- 13:52them? Right.
- 13:53I don't I don't I don't see our Prophet who was a man of Mercy.
- 13:57If that if you saw somebody doing something wrong in Mecca
- 14:00or medina that he would just go and you know slap him or you
- 14:03know, use vulgarity or profanity or saying your agenda me you're
- 14:07going to hell. What are you doing, right?
- 14:09He was a man of mercy of compassion.
- 14:10Allah says about him in the Quran had you been further
- 14:13Inland a little Pub than fuck demand holik.
- 14:16If you had been hard, you know, very Turn people would have run
- 14:19away from you. So if we look at these I out of
- 14:23how rasoolallah was hmm and I'm sure the actual date that they
- 14:26had a similar obviously characteristic to them.
- 14:29I don't think we have that in us where we see people doing wrong
- 14:32and we become extremely judgmental.
- 14:34Rude harsh. You know we might use - names to
- 14:37describe them, not recognizing that the Quran gives us a
- 14:40completely different picture of how you communicate to other
- 14:43people, right? Give you just one example is
- 14:46that if you look in the Quran, when a lot Allah tells me Musa
- 14:49and harun to go to Pharaoh on a man who claims to be the God,
- 14:52who claims to be the Rob. Allah says it Hubble Affair.
- 14:55Own vakula home, cold and lien, speak to him, a gentle word.
- 15:00Wow. So imagine you're going to a guy
- 15:02who calls him wrong. Yeah.
- 15:05And God says speak to them and speak to my gentle word.
- 15:09If you're going to speak with you.
- 15:10A guy who claims to be God gently?
- 15:12Wow. How can we not talk to our
- 15:14fellow brothers and sisters with with respect it baffles him?
- 15:19Mind to think that we can be rude to one another, right?
- 15:23So that's a beautiful example because, you know, I'll be in in
- 15:26scenarios where I live and it's normally people that we respect
- 15:31along and these are people who are more learned that the Elders
- 15:33of community like when they come and they want to advise a
- 15:35brother, for example, sometimes they do in front of everyone, I
- 15:39think that's wrong. Yeah.
- 15:41And I think the best thing, the best way to advise someone or
- 15:43help them encourage them to do. The right thing is pull them,
- 15:45aside speak to them in private. And I think if there is more of
- 15:49That more people will be welcoming decide bison shown
- 15:52here just to ask that as well. It's I think I believe if I'm
- 15:56not mistaken there's a Hadith I hope of Muhammad's Allah will
- 15:59send them all. Actually a story where a man
- 16:01comes the holy prophet Muhammad and he says, give me a jazzer to
- 16:04commit zener and the holy prophet instead of bashing into
- 16:08him and and slaughtering him and banishing him from the religion,
- 16:12he responds to the man and I'm paraphrasing along the lines of
- 16:15saying the lady who are looking to commit Xena with Is also
- 16:19someone's daughter and sister and so on and so forth.
- 16:22Rethink this action of whether you changes to protect your
- 16:25change of respect and the man subhanallah rethought this and
- 16:29the holy prophet Muhammad made a dart or last month has been
- 16:32looking at a lot. He's not committed this sin, but
- 16:34he has the desire to do. It remove this illness or
- 16:38disease from his heart and his soul and I'm delighted it
- 16:41worked. And of course that man didn't
- 16:43commit such an action. But it's just an example.
- 16:45That's like you said, she act to follow in the footsteps of the
- 16:48added. Basically almost Um, that, you
- 16:50know, there are ways maybe to communicate these things and and
- 16:53that maybe we don't have to be so spiteful when we do this.
- 16:57I think we fall into this trap, a lot of the time as so-called
- 17:01practicing Muslims, as practicing people that I'm in a
- 17:04mosque and this guy's praying wrong for example, or he's just
- 17:07the smallest things. I'm gonna go up to envelope
- 17:10brother. You shouldn't do this.
- 17:11This is very bad. If you do this Allah will do
- 17:14this to, for example like this, there's many ways where you can
- 17:17guys, always, you're gonna end up.
- 17:19And help. Yeah.
- 17:20So he's very scary. It is it is, it's unfortunate.
- 17:23Hmm. Definitely, you know we
- 17:25definitely have to as I said, right?
- 17:27We've learned all the rules of praying and fasting and Hajj and
- 17:30all of these things. But we haven't really learned
- 17:33interpersonal skills, right? As relievers, right in the
- 17:36Quran, again, as I give you one example of Moses and Aaron with,
- 17:40with the Pharaoh. There are so many more examples
- 17:42in the Quran that if we were to read the Quran with that kind of
- 17:46the reading that we're looking for guidance, we recognize.
- 17:48Allah is teaching us even, you know interpersonal relationship,
- 17:52skills of how to deal with other people.
- 17:54Again, we always jump to conclusions, were always very,
- 17:56you know, we're very rude to people many times, right?
- 18:01And I think that obviously is pushing people away from the
- 18:03religion. Yeah, whereas again, you know,
- 18:05the prophet brought the religion and all the rules within the
- 18:08Quran and his in his Sunnah, to get us closer to Allah, right?
- 18:12And you can't get closer to Allah when you have that kind of
- 18:14an attitude with with other people, mmm-hmm, I was going to
- 18:19ask you now this concept and I know, I know we've talked about
- 18:23this before the episode when we briefly mentioned, the vast,
- 18:25like I have Ford in. Why is that something?
- 18:29Which we want to discuss today as part of this discussion?
- 18:31Dr. Crawford in this from Surat al-baqarah mistaken and it's the
- 18:35reason why discussing is because even I've been looking at a lot
- 18:38recently, you know, given the recent Affairs around the world
- 18:41today I'm sure the viewers and listeners.
- 18:43They know what's happening around the world.
- 18:45This is this verse has been quoted everywhere even by
- 18:47non-muslims and the Surprising thing is that Muslims are using
- 18:50this to say that you can do whatever you want, just like a
- 18:53freedom pass, you know, you can be a Muslim, you can do whatever
- 18:55you want. There's no consequence.
- 18:56What is the what is the vast mean?
- 18:58There is no compulsion in religion.
- 19:00Yeah, that's I'm not an expert when it comes to, you know, the
- 19:04tafseer of this verse. So I'm going to pass this
- 19:06question on said, so yourself. The beauty of having.
- 19:09Yes, yes, yes, it is the easy job.
- 19:15So yeah, you're right. You know, in Reverse 256.
- 19:19So I was obviously as we know I talk or see 255.
- 19:22Yeah. And the Hadith say 256 and 257
- 19:24complete I talk or see. So 256 the very first part says,
- 19:28like, haha 15ml, right? That there is no compulsion in
- 19:31religion and so I think one of the things that we have to
- 19:35recognize is obviously the history of Revelation.
- 19:37This is one of the things as Muslims we kind of tend to
- 19:40overlook you know we have to put ourselves in the mind of a
- 19:43Muslims 1400 years ago because every verse that came down to
- 19:47the prophet was coming down. Because things were happening in
- 19:50Mecca or medina. Yeah.
- 19:52And in order to respond in order for the prophet to respond to,
- 19:55let's say that the non-believers around him or when Muslims were
- 19:59posing questions, allow would reveal to the prophet,
- 20:01Revelation, the Quran, and then the prophet would convey it.
- 20:04Mmm. So every verse we have to remind
- 20:06remind ourselves, it was being revealed in the, in historical
- 20:09context. So like, could I have 15 as the
- 20:12Quran, clearly says there's no compulsion in religion with a
- 20:16few different opinions of why it was revealed one of them.
- 20:19I'm not about to buy mentions and I'll Meson is that there is
- 20:22a man named Hussein in the city of Medina, who had two sons.
- 20:27So they were a Muslim family and they, you know they had a lot of
- 20:31different Traders and Caravans that would come to the city of
- 20:33Medina selling their goods. One of those Caravans belong to
- 20:37a Christian and so the two boys of this man Hussain they were
- 20:41kind of you know, they went to the Caravan to maybe buy
- 20:44something and this man was also pedaling religion, you know.
- 20:48Unfortunately he was using his, you know, his businessman, kind
- 20:52of, you know, job as also, a propagator for Christianity.
- 20:57So anyways, the two boys, converted to Islam.
- 21:00They left the prophet, they left the religion of Islam, they
- 21:02became Christians. Sorry.
- 21:04So now the father is distraught obviously like, you know, how
- 21:06can I, how can I allow my two children living at the time of
- 21:10the Prophet to leave Islam and become Christians?
- 21:13So he goes to the messenger of Allah.
- 21:15He says do I have the permission to coerce and force my To come
- 21:20back to the religion of Islam. Can I reuse?
- 21:22You know, violence or force? And this verse comes down.
- 21:26Like it could all have 15. Look, your children are adults.
- 21:29You cannot force them to come to Islam or you can to come back to
- 21:32Islam rather from, you know, leaving Islam going to
- 21:35Christianity. So, you know, we have to
- 21:37recognize like Raw Feed in its historical context.
- 21:40And what it means is that as Muslims from the time of the
- 21:44Prophet till today and until the end of time, we're not allowed
- 21:48to force. It's somebody to convert and you
- 21:51think about it. You can't change the heart of
- 21:53somebody by force, but you can make their bodies submit, but
- 21:57you will never make their heart submit to Allah who guided them
- 21:59alive, diet, and Alaska's us so many times.
- 22:02The Quran that, you know, he tells the prophet, you cannot
- 22:04guide whom you want. However, Allah will guide whom
- 22:07he wants, right? So like a 15 definitely is a
- 22:10part of our religion, but it doesn't mean that, you know, it
- 22:14doesn't mean, I think, what most of the Muslims wanted to mean,
- 22:17or what the orientalists are normal.
- 22:18I'm sorry. Trying to say this verse means,
- 22:22right? It's about coming into Islam.
- 22:24You we can never force people, we give them the message and
- 22:27then we let Allah, you know, mold the heart towards Islam.
- 22:31Mmm. Dude, that's I'd be, that's a
- 22:33beautiful interpretation of the bus because it's, by the way,
- 22:37Shannon is one of the first time I've heard, I've heard it from
- 22:39this business perspective and I think it's important that we can
- 22:42have more people who actually speak about this from.
- 22:45Yes, Aslam expects. It, it's more important because
- 22:47you know the way the media is Hijacked this verse is just
- 22:50completely different area. Completely this ironic because
- 22:54the concept of compulsion and Islam, like you said, in the
- 22:57media and in day-to-day, his seemingly looks like it's hand
- 23:00in hand. That slams compulsion.
- 23:02A compulsion is a slab. Of course, we're not.
- 23:04Like you said, she has the last one table is does not like
- 23:07compulsion and, and other, if I correct me if I'm wrong here,
- 23:10but in the Holy Quran, Allah spawned all that mentions that
- 23:12you cannot compel, for example, your daughter's into
- 23:15prostitution, for example, and things like that.
- 23:18And I know, It's a bit crude to mention but compulsion even in
- 23:20filk you cannot compel. For example a divorce, if a
- 23:25husband and a wife and a family compelled, the husband to
- 23:30divorce the wife. In fact that's not accepted,
- 23:32it's an invalid divorce. So, of course it's something for
- 23:35us to consider and so specifically on that verse year
- 23:39when people are using that verse for their own purposes.
- 23:42Yeah. Or to say like that I can do, I
- 23:44want God's not compelling me to do anything, I don't have to
- 23:46pray five times a day. I don't have to wear the hijab.
- 23:48Bob, I don't have to not do X Y or Z.
- 23:52Is it an incorrect use or is it a kind of an abuse of of the
- 23:56verse that I do want to go to that extreme?
- 23:58But how wrong is it to use the best for your own means?
- 24:01Yeah, I think those Muslims and even non-muslims who try to use
- 24:05this portion of that verse to justify their lack of practice
- 24:09of Islam. They're doing a disservice to
- 24:11the Quran and their I think they're cheating themselves, I
- 24:13would say right because we have to look at it.
- 24:16That yes, there's no compulsion in religion to come.
- 24:18To Islam. But once you come into Islam,
- 24:21once you acknowledge that you are a Muslim, then you are
- 24:24basically obliged to follow the rules, right?
- 24:27Give you a very practical example that we all fly around
- 24:31the world, right? When covid hit obviously flights
- 24:33were mostly cancelled but once once the airlines began to
- 24:37reopen, I wasn't compelled to fly to UK for example.
- 24:41But once I booked my ticket and I walk onto that plane, I'm now
- 24:45compelled to wear a mask, right? I'm now compelled to do so, Some
- 24:48things that I would normally want to do such a such a good
- 24:52analogy. Somebody could say, well, you
- 24:54know, you're impeding on my rights.
- 24:56Well, yeah, you might have a right to not wear a mask but
- 25:00there's a right for the people on that plane to be protected,
- 25:03right? And if the medical experts have
- 25:05said, that, one of the ways that safer covid to spread was
- 25:07through, droplets in the air and the mask is a preventative
- 25:10means. Then I can say, well okay, I
- 25:12won't board the plane then then you know, then you don't have to
- 25:15wear the mask. So similarly with Islam, when
- 25:17Allah says like Rahab Dean don't come into a swamp if you don't
- 25:20want to follow the rules, but once you come into this house
- 25:23called Islam, then you're expected to follow the rules.
- 25:27Now, the Challenger comes right, is that Islamic rules are at
- 25:30could maybe two different levels.
- 25:32One are the personal and one of the societal rules so like
- 25:36rafidhi, and if I don't want to pray my salaat, I can just, I
- 25:39don't have to pray, you know, there's no, there's no morality
- 25:42police coming to my home and knock.
- 25:44Hey, did you pray fudger today, right.
- 25:46Nobody knows whether I prayed or not but me.
- 25:48E not praying is not going to impact a society on a whole,
- 25:52right? Like it won't affect any of you
- 25:54are there. Other Muslims or non-muslims.
- 25:56If a Muslim doesn't pray, but there are societal rules within
- 26:00Islam and some of them are not even in the Quran or they're
- 26:03very generally mentioned in the Quran but those societal rules
- 26:06impact the society, right? So those are the rules, were
- 26:10Aslam says that. Yes, you may not be compelled to
- 26:13follow the, you know, the praying and the fasting and the
- 26:16other aspects. But When you step out of your
- 26:19house when you're in the public sphere, then even if you don't
- 26:22like those rules, like the masking policy.
- 26:24Yeah. Now you have to follow it
- 26:26because you are living in a society and a Muslim Society,
- 26:29has certain norms and values, which need to be upheld even if
- 26:33you kind of don't like those rules.
- 26:35Right? Right, right.
- 26:37So I think we have to recognize and especially Muslim Community
- 26:40have to recognize that. There are those rules that that
- 26:42verse can't be misused. But once we've come into Islam,
- 26:46then we need to follow the rules.
- 26:48The purse at a personal level, you don't have to wear hijab at
- 26:51home. Let's say if you want you know
- 26:53your friends come over you know male family and friends that are
- 26:55non Muharram. If a woman doesn't want to wear
- 26:58hijab in front of them, she's free to do it if she wants, but
- 27:01whence a woman or let me even say that once a man even comes
- 27:04into the public because men have hijab as well.
- 27:07Yeah, right. We have to also men have to wear
- 27:09a certain level of clothing when we go out in public.
- 27:12Just as women, do women have a more defined specific form of
- 27:16covering of the body? Yeah.
- 27:18But when Go into the public sphere.
- 27:19Then those rules of you can't force me or you can't judge me.
- 27:23They change, right? Once you go into that public in
- 27:27the pot is now affecting Society.
- 27:29Yeah, exactly. Right.
- 27:31Yeah. And I think it's probably
- 27:33applicable with so many so many different things.
- 27:35Yeah, it in religion and just generally, like you said in
- 27:39day-to-day lives and the lines are so blurred living in the
- 27:42west because you can do something or avoid doing
- 27:46something, which I slammed tells you to do or not to Do perhaps
- 27:49and even though it's a personal decision and like you said, she
- 27:51acts, we have the free will to choose what to do.
- 27:55There will be an effect at the bare minimum on ourselves and
- 27:59then that the most, they'll be in effect to our immediate
- 28:01circles in the wider society as well.
- 28:03Yeah, so it's something for us to consider.
- 28:05But what about, for example, say, I want to ask you as well,
- 28:08because I know we've seen a lot and you alluded to kind of what
- 28:11we've been seeing in the current affairs and so on.
- 28:14But we have seen the backlash of people who feel compelled to do.
- 28:18I think so. For example, if there is a law
- 28:23in place or if there's some some sort of narrative out there and
- 28:27someone feels compelled and they Rebel as a result of that
- 28:31compulsion, if you see what I mean, they may come out and
- 28:34throw sticks and stones and get angry and so on, what do you
- 28:38think living here? Kind of like in London is our
- 28:41responsibility or just generally in the west because of course
- 28:43there's there's times where people will will maybe respond
- 28:47with. - and say, you Muslim, or you, she are forcing X Y, or Z,
- 28:53for example, and we are then put in a really precarious position
- 28:58as to how to approach it, you know?
- 28:59I mean hmm. No, I asking in terms of, for
- 29:02example, as a non-muslim coming here or the like a Muslim,
- 29:05either all that, but if someone is, for example, on the
- 29:08offensive against the community or against Islam, as a whole,
- 29:12whether they are within their religion, but unwilling to
- 29:16participate or to practice or even outside The religion, but
- 29:19are not in favorite. She's awesome.
- 29:20And I generally genuinely believe that, if you tell anyone
- 29:24anything, yeah, but they got offended.
- 29:26You said it the wrong way, Yanni.
- 29:28It all comes down to how you have judged them.
- 29:31Yes, sometimes you can. You can judge them and you can
- 29:34miss judge them and not know why they are not doing this or why
- 29:37they're not doing the watch about or why they've maybe, you
- 29:39know, gone to the side of the path where they usually walking
- 29:42on. And that's because they feel
- 29:45like you are telling them what to do, and you just need to
- 29:48remind And um this is this is a nose on law is law.
- 29:50My for example, the Salah is why do we all know as watch it?
- 29:52You have to pray five times a day.
- 29:54This is how you pray, you have to do a little before.
- 29:56This this is this is, you know, the story.
- 29:58You have to mention here, they know how it's done.
- 30:01But some people, they choose not to pray because they say, you
- 30:04know what? For example, you know, I'll pray
- 30:06in 10 years. I'll go to Hajj, I'll become a
- 30:09Muslim and Allah will forgive all my, she know what?
- 30:11Like this, sorry to interrupt, but this is something which I
- 30:14feel was becoming more toxic and more frequent.
- 30:16So, this whole concept of For example, Islam is a personal
- 30:19choice is that God only got lost.
- 30:22Once Allah can judge make the chef Michelle because of society
- 30:24and Society, for example, the lady choose not to wear the
- 30:27hijab at home. Yeah, that's her decision but
- 30:29when you come outside, you're affecting society.
- 30:31And if they see a sister that's always what the heck?
- 30:34Job randomly know suddenly has taken of the idea.
- 30:38What does it tell the other people?
- 30:40She still, she says, I'm still praying, I'm still fasting, I
- 30:42still believe in Allah, but I'm choosing not to whether a job
- 30:44that's our choice. Yeah, let's make that clear.
- 30:46That is, her choice not between her.
- 30:48Last part of town about she's affecting society and because of
- 30:50that we are seeing this today. Hmm.
- 30:53Yeah, I need for anyone to come and say you know what you're
- 30:55saying, this is on the increase. That's because of society, my
- 30:59opinion, because you can go to Iraq.
- 31:01Let me give an example of a lot. For example, Iraq majority.
- 31:05Muslim country majority Shia go to Baghdad.
- 31:09Half of them. Don't wear hijab and you
- 31:11actually see no compulsion in religion.
- 31:13I don't know if that's the right right.
- 31:14Place to give an example but people are practicing or people
- 31:17not practice as up to you between you and Allah subhanahu
- 31:20wa'ta'ala. That's, that's the beauty of
- 31:22know, you know, forcing someone Islam on them.
- 31:26I don't know if I'm giving you the right answer, most of what I
- 31:28understood you correctly. But one thing I want to add to
- 31:30the conversation and I had a brother once asked me was like,
- 31:34you know, say it. I don't pray.
- 31:38I believe in Allah, you know, I go Ciara, I do love for me, you
- 31:41know, the she has really love my job and everything because I
- 31:43can't pray sometimes on some days.
- 31:45I don't fast. Is it wrong, he knows is wrong.
- 31:48Do you judge me because we're close friends.
- 31:50He said, you judge me when I told him that, I don't judge
- 31:52you, that's between you. And I lost part of Tyler, but if
- 31:55someone ever comes to ask me, you know, this brother, you
- 31:58know, him, he wants to get married, to my sister, who wants
- 32:01to get married to my niece. Hmm, I'm not going to come and
- 32:03tell him. You pray.
- 32:04I'm gonna have to tell him the truth.
- 32:05Yeah, so sometimes you need to look for your own.
- 32:08You know, sometimes maybe not just the our camera, but for
- 32:12this world as well, if you want to find that Soldier Zoila had
- 32:15used to do some of these acts. Yeah.
- 32:17That was the perspective. Like I would like to give the
- 32:20brothers an hour so let's not just be judgmental, Let's help
- 32:23them. Yeah yeah I think that you know
- 32:27I think that I think that covers that you know, it's It is
- 32:31difficult, definitely a difficult situation where I
- 32:33think we're in, you know, I mean, I think maybe with with
- 32:36social media and the world just to Communications of the world.
- 32:39You know, these has become more Amplified, right?
- 32:41We're seeing it more, like, I'm sure there have always been
- 32:43people who didn't wear hijab women.
- 32:46Men who didn't dress appropriately people who didn't
- 32:49pray, but I think because social media has given everybody this
- 32:53this right to kind of this to be who they want to be.
- 32:59We just see it more. But I think at the same time
- 33:02again you know we have to I think if we came back down to
- 33:05religion Islam being a religion of submission you know.
- 33:09Again I think it may also have to do just with the way that we
- 33:12haven't taught religion. I think sometimes I had this
- 33:14discussion, just I think yesterday or a few days ago with
- 33:17some it was some brothers and sisters in the community where
- 33:20at one level I think are you know forefathers that came to
- 33:23these countries and establish religious centers and the Sunday
- 33:26schools. They did.
- 33:27What they could do based on their level of education and
- 33:30weather. A level of ability to
- 33:32communicate to the Next Generation, but perhaps, you
- 33:36know, the religion wasn't taught in the right way, you know,
- 33:40maybe, for example, myself being brought up in Canada, we were
- 33:43kind of as young children taught to worship God, out of the Fear
- 33:46Factor. Yeah.
- 33:47Worship. Or you go to hell.
- 33:49You know, do this or you. Go to hell.
- 33:51If you listen to music, you'll have this punishment, right?
- 33:54So it was always a Fear Factor and sometimes I think we are
- 33:57also kind of inculcated with this.
- 33:59This thought, where you would also Face punishment in this
- 34:02world like things wouldn't go right for you, right?
- 34:05And then if you see you're living a life, you're not
- 34:07praying, you're not fasting and nothing.
- 34:08You know, fire and brimstone is aren't being showered down upon
- 34:11you like we just because you didn't pray or because if you
- 34:14have strands of hair were showing, you know, we kind of,
- 34:18you know, we lost a lot because there's just that Fear Factor,
- 34:22right? But like like Imam Ali would
- 34:24say, right? He didn't worship God out of
- 34:25fear or out of that slave master relationship but he recognized,
- 34:29God was worthy of being worshipped.
- 34:31Shift to thank God for all that. He's given to him.
- 34:33So he worshiped worshipped him. I think at one level, you know,
- 34:36this discussion on on the hijab, for example, because this is
- 34:40what's in the news right now, right?
- 34:41This don't compel me to wear hijab.
- 34:43I should be free to roam the streets with whatever I want to
- 34:46wear. I think a lot of it, I think a
- 34:49lot of it stems from the fact that we've maybe lost that
- 34:52connection with Allah, we don't really know God, you know?
- 34:55And because we were never given a clear, presentation of what
- 34:58God is or who he is. It was just again.
- 35:01Fear Factor why we worship God? I think it's an interesting
- 35:04conversation because for someone to say, only Allah can judge me,
- 35:09I feel there's an element of humility in it.
- 35:12The reason why is because you are accepting even
- 35:16subconsciously. The fact that perhaps you are
- 35:18not at the level you should be. And I think this applies to all
- 35:21the hospitals of course were none of us are flawless by any
- 35:23means but there's an element of humility because you understand
- 35:27that, I'm not where I should be and I don't want my sins to be.
- 35:31Opposed to the world. So that's between Allah and
- 35:33there's an element of I want to keep that private so I
- 35:36understand that and I also think there's an important thing and I
- 35:39have to stress this again, okay? That if you are within the
- 35:42Muslim Community, there is no right for anyone to go up to
- 35:47another person and to say to them, you are doing X, Y and Z
- 35:51wrong. Why are you doing this?
- 35:52Because this is to cupboard and this is condescending and it's
- 35:55offensive to people and there should be a softness in the way
- 35:58we approach people and the way we discuss issues Both on the
- 36:01private level and of course on the member and in our
- 36:04organizations and so on, and so forth.
- 36:06It's, I also want to mention a couple of things that we've,
- 36:09we've got because, of course, we've started getting some
- 36:13really good feedback. We try something new to say that
- 36:15we put out some questions and polls appalling honestly.
- 36:18Yeah, honestly G. Which is really cool.
- 36:20Can I just interject for just us?
- 36:22Yeah. Just, you know, because we're
- 36:23just coming out of the season and Muharram, and commemoration
- 36:26of the tragedy of a credible line of the start just came to
- 36:28my mind, about judging, Polite and we reflect on Imam, Hussein
- 36:34peace. Be upon him in horror.
- 36:35Yes, he judge her and say, you're, you're the one
- 36:38responsible for my children and, you know, becoming orphans and
- 36:41my women be taken as captives and, you know, the death of my
- 36:45family in a few days to come, right?
- 36:46He didn't have that nature and that and that attitude with
- 36:50horror, right? He spoke to her in again and
- 36:52that loving way, he, you know, even when Horace like, it's time
- 36:55for Salat and Imam. Hussein says, do you want to
- 36:57lead the prayers? Or do you want me to lead?
- 36:59Wow. In say, right?
- 37:01He's like, Jose, you're the, you're the grandson of the
- 37:04messenger of God, your lead rights and, you know, we have
- 37:08the, you know, the famous narration where Imam, Hussain
- 37:09tells his house, tells the men that go and feed, not only the
- 37:13soldiers of whore water, but feed the animals, the water, he
- 37:16knew, obviously a sued, to the knowledge of the Unseen that God
- 37:19had given him in these instances, where he needed it
- 37:22that this man was blocking his way and it would lead to the day
- 37:26of Ashura, but yet he didn't like, you know, he didn't cut
- 37:29him off from religion, right? And I think we have to, you
- 37:32know, especially because, you know, as followers of the actual
- 37:34bait, we hear this narration about about whore every year.
- 37:38And we, I think sometimes we just think of it as the
- 37:40historical whore, not recognizing that that has to be
- 37:44also embodied in our lives. Yeah, right, I mean, who could
- 37:47be a greater quote-unquote sinner than hoarder, you know,
- 37:49you're blocking the Imam of your time, you're leading to his
- 37:52death, but yet you see the compassion in mom, has with him
- 37:56and how he interacts, and he ends up coming to the side of
- 37:59Imam Hussain. Had he been hard with him?
- 38:02And you're you're you're going to hell and you're this and
- 38:05you're that who are probably would not have moved over,
- 38:08right? He shows how most of Allah
- 38:10subhanahu wa'ta'ala. Yeah.
- 38:11Indeed. Yeah, it's my employer, I've got
- 38:15lost in it. What you're saying?
- 38:16Well, I was the one back to our sure.
- 38:18I understand besides was hitting me, like, I completely forgot.
- 38:22I was gonna say, we're going to talk about Instagram.
- 38:25Yes. Sorry.
- 38:26Should just shows us that karbala has also, I think in
- 38:29many of our communities off topic, but in karbala has become
- 38:32just a an event to commemorate, not something to learn from,
- 38:36right? If we took all of these events
- 38:38is little, little kind of lessons that, you know, the 108
- 38:41were showing us, you know, for those first seven days and then
- 38:45the last three days before the day of Ashura and everything
- 38:47that happened on our show today. If we looked at all of those, it
- 38:50kind of as life learning lessons, I think we become
- 38:53better human beings. Mmm.
- 38:55But unfortunately, we just we come we sit for 10 days.
- 38:58We beat our chest. We drink some tea, we Some
- 39:01cookies and we leave and we don't reflect on the message
- 39:03that that Imam Hussain Ali. Hassan left for us, right?
- 39:06And in that in that Sega some absolutely notice.
- 39:10This countless lessons from the story about the love saying it's
- 39:13a lot of life's longing and you know, we can always look and
- 39:17even though we've ended the season.
- 39:18Now, in terms of the calendar, we should continue to research
- 39:21and to learn to reflect on it. Like I said, yeah.
- 39:24But I think a lot of people like like we've discussed earlier are
- 39:27open to receiving this feedback could call it.
- 39:30Yeah. Yeah, but it comes down to us,
- 39:32like you said, said, and the way we say, as to whether we offend
- 39:36them, so, for example, we pull up an Instagram.
- 39:38If someone approaches you to give you their opinion on your
- 39:40actions, do you think it's judgmental to which 86 percent
- 39:44of people said? The feedback is always helpful
- 39:47and they're willing for people to approach them.
- 39:49So it goes to show that if the majority of our communities
- 39:51willing for people to approach them.
- 39:53Yeah, then that's amazing. Surely though, it's comes down
- 39:56to us to do it in the right way. I also want to say another
- 40:00another Another question, we put up saying to you, what does the
- 40:03term like could I have 15 min? No compulsion, in religion, a
- 40:08couple of answers. We've got someone said, it's
- 40:09incorrect to force anyone to perform an action without them
- 40:12being convinced to do it. Someone else said, it's not a
- 40:16literal. Verse religion, has Halal and
- 40:18Haram. Another interesting point,
- 40:21someone says it means to teach people when asked a question
- 40:25about religion and each mentality, each mentally sane
- 40:29adult is And each each adult is responsible for their own acts
- 40:34and religion, okay, fair enough. Then there's a last point, which
- 40:37I wanted to maybe wrap up on. Maybe the question is to me,
- 40:41this verse means, I have more freedom than modern-day
- 40:44Scholars. Would deem me to have now is an
- 40:46interesting point, because, for example, one may go to the
- 40:50modulus, they may attend lectures, they made, they made
- 40:53listen on YouTube and so on, and to be honest here, they may be
- 40:56listening to you now for example, and they may think,
- 40:59well, this is all well and good but The Day The Scholar or the
- 41:02share, or the marja says, I have to do X, Y and Z, but they think
- 41:07I have a restricted amount of freedom in their bubble of
- 41:13element and knowledge and Islamic scholarship.
- 41:15When they don't know what I go through in day-to-day life in a
- 41:18western society and so on and I have more freedom than they may
- 41:21think. I do, how would you respond to
- 41:22that kind of from a scholarly perspective and as an Islamic
- 41:25educator one? Someone would say to you that I
- 41:27have more freedom to practice my religion in the way I view.
- 41:30View it in this scene. You have the way to practice the
- 41:32freedom to practice it in the way you view it.
- 41:36So I think maybe we are not understanding the the word
- 41:40Islam. Right Islam as as Imam Ali
- 41:43peace, building would say. It means Tesla means to submit
- 41:47to submit to who to Allah or God, right?
- 41:50But the question comes, or the what we have to ask ourselves is
- 41:53that am I worshipping or submitting to God as I want to
- 41:56worship and submit or how he expects me to submit to him.
- 42:00You look at the problem with, with a beliefs, with the devil,
- 42:03right? And najibullah.
- 42:04Imam Ali, peace. Bottom says that it believes
- 42:06worship God for 6,000 years and then Imam.
- 42:09Ali goes on to say that, I don't know if that is 6000 Earth years
- 42:13or years in the Divine realm because there's no sun and moon
- 42:17to quantify days weeks, months and years.
- 42:19So, 6000 years is maybe trillions of years and our an
- 42:23understanding, right? But the point being is that
- 42:26Imam, Ali then says, that it believes was told by Allah when
- 42:29he created Adam, he told all the angels and it bleeds was in that
- 42:33Gathering, so he was expected to fall.
- 42:35Oh, the order. And I'll a said, you have to do
- 42:37the act of prostration towards Adam.
- 42:39The Quran says that all of the angels and all of those in that
- 42:42Gathering submitted ilahi beliefs, right, except iblees,
- 42:46he became proud and arrogant and he was of the disbelievers.
- 42:49Yeah, so the goal here is that I am not allowed to worship God,
- 42:54how I want to worship him, right?
- 42:56I can't say that I'm going to pray like this, or I'm going to
- 43:00eat this kind of food or I'm going to wear my hijab in a
- 43:03certain way because I Of the freedom of the right to choose.
- 43:07If I'm really a Muslim and submitting that I need to go
- 43:09back to the Hadith, go back to the Quran, go back to see how
- 43:14Allah wants me to worship him, right?
- 43:16And if and then from there, then I basically, I need to follow
- 43:20those rules. If I want to be within that
- 43:22religion of Islam, then I have to submit to God as he wants me
- 43:25to write. And but, you know, keep in mind
- 43:27that we might not find a lot of the things of Islam in the
- 43:31Quran. But this is I think one of the
- 43:33things that many people bring up at About the hijab, right?
- 43:35Is that? Well, there's no verse of the
- 43:37Quran for the lotion, right? That's one doesn't talk about
- 43:40her job. Yeah, and if you look at the
- 43:41Quran, Allah uses the word hijab, if I'm not mistaken for
- 43:44times, but it never means a piece of cloth, right.
- 43:47It's a barrier between a man and woman that like a, like a cloth
- 43:50partition. For example, Allah uses the word
- 43:53hijab to mean a barrier in the Seas between water, right?
- 43:57So there are other and you know and also the bottle Zach can I
- 43:59ask ya sorry, especially in the fashion examples.
- 44:02Yes. Is that a physical barrier
- 44:04between the Women which are lost but I was referring to all kind
- 44:06of like a social barrier of distance.
- 44:09So I think there's one verse of the Quran, Allah speaking to the
- 44:11wives of the prophet. And he tells the the men of the
- 44:14community that whenever you want to speak to the wives of the
- 44:17messenger of Allah, asked, them from behind a hijab.
- 44:20So, I'm like a physical curtain or, you know, a piece of cloth
- 44:23that so you're not physically interacting with the wives of
- 44:26the messenger of Allah. All right, that's interesting.
- 44:28So there are but you know, if you look at the other ayat of
- 44:31the Quran, which are in Surah Noor chapter 24.
- 44:33There are two verses about he Job.
- 44:35And you know it's Unique because Allah speaks to the man first
- 44:39and then he tells the women after that or you look in
- 44:41chapter 33. So Allah has odd.
- 44:43The verse of hijab is and that verse but we also have to
- 44:47recognize that we need to go back to how the, how the out of
- 44:51women at the time of the prophet of the women in general, were
- 44:54were dressing at that time, right?
- 44:56And we have to study that historical background.
- 44:59And then read the ayat of the Quran to kind of complete the
- 45:02picture of hijab, right? So, if somebody is, Watching or
- 45:05listening today and saying, well, there's no direct
- 45:08methodology of wearing hijab in the Quran there.
- 45:11Correct to one extent, right? But there are ayat.
- 45:14As I mentioned in chapter 24 and chapter 33, which explain it,
- 45:18but we always have to remember that religion of Islam is not.
- 45:21We're not Quran Centric in the sense.
- 45:23That if it's not in the Quran, we're not going to do it.
- 45:25I'll give you a very practical example, right today, across the
- 45:28Muslim World in UK, and Canada, and the Middle East shiah, and
- 45:31Sunni alike, when a Muslim passes away.
- 45:34Way, we give them the closer, we wash the body, we do, the who
- 45:38Newt, we wrapped the body in white cloth, we buried them
- 45:40toward Mecca, that's not in the Quran.
- 45:43There is not a single verse of the Quran, even bit, even giving
- 45:47a basic guideline on how to bury a Muslim but yet we don't
- 45:50cremate the bodies, why not, right?
- 45:53There's no verse of the Quran that says when you died
- 45:55yesterday, how you bury a Muslim, but because the prophet
- 45:58taught us and the Companions and the ahlulbayt followed up those
- 46:02teachings right now, we Every Muslim from, you know, from
- 46:06China to Africa to the Middle East to Europe in the same
- 46:09fashion. So hijab is similar right?
- 46:12When a sister will say well there's no verse of the Quran
- 46:14that tells me to cover a specific amount of my body.
- 46:18Yeah I can just cover however I want and you know and God will
- 46:21judge me. Nobody should tell me what to
- 46:23wear, then we have to ask that sister a look.
- 46:26Okay fine, we agree, there's nothing in the Quran or very
- 46:29maybe very generic versus if you want to use that term.
- 46:32But what about the the son of the prophet?
- 46:34What about, if you're, if you're a follower of the Arnold bait,
- 46:37how did say the Zohar alayhis-salam were her job or
- 46:39how did he say that Xena wear hijab, peace be upon her if
- 46:42they're not the paragons of piety and women that are Role
- 46:45Models, right? We we, I mean, we will be
- 46:48commemorating. The fact to me are very soon, we
- 46:50cry over the tragedy, but let's look at how she lived her life,
- 46:54right? And for those who follow others
- 46:57streams and Islamic thought, well, you have the wives of the
- 46:59Prophet, right? You have how they live their
- 47:01lives. So, let's see how they cover
- 47:03themselves, right? You have.
- 47:05DJ peace be upon Him, ultimate meaning you have many other
- 47:08respectable wives of the prophet in Medina.
- 47:10Let's study their lives and study the lives of the women
- 47:12around the prophet, the daughter, you know, the the
- 47:15granddaughter of the Prophet, the wives of the prophet.
- 47:18And let's see how they wore hijab.
- 47:20And if they were doing something wrong, then the messenger of
- 47:22Allah would be obligated to tell them, you're doing something
- 47:24wrong. And if they're doing right, then
- 47:27obviously that the prophet seeing that and commenting on,
- 47:30it shows us that, that is the ideal.
- 47:32He job for a woman. Now, obviously, Culture and
- 47:35things. They know they'll be certain
- 47:36nuances of hijab but on a whole we have we have the example of
- 47:41the Prophet course. We have to recognize the fact
- 47:43again that the Quran gives us the basic, the general
- 47:46guidelines. And then we need to go back to
- 47:49the Sunnah of the Prophet, right?
- 47:50And obviously, the prophet was a man, so he's not going to be
- 47:52wearing hijab. So, then we need to go to the
- 47:55Quran and are the son of the messenger and see how the women
- 47:58around him were hijab. Right.
- 48:00The the wives of the Prophet, the daughter, the granddaughter
- 48:03of the profit, although Zane. They hustle on was only three
- 48:06four, five years old. But at least Fatima Zahra
- 48:09alayhis-salam grown mature woman.
- 48:11She was wearing hijab, right? How did she wear the hijab,
- 48:15right? And and we have to look at what
- 48:17she was doing. Now, you know, again, we, you
- 48:19know, we would have to say that her hijab would be the perfect
- 48:22version of hijab. We could call it women of today
- 48:26may not be expected and it may not be practical.
- 48:28Let's say the word nickel but face Veil, right?
- 48:31Some of them are Roger, actually demon Haram to her face veil in
- 48:33the West. Because it is it, your you're
- 48:37showing a side, you know, which shouldn't be there.
- 48:39Like, you know, that's it's clothing, which is kind of
- 48:42considered as being out of the norm for Society of Western
- 48:45Society, right? But generally speaking we have
- 48:48the general rules of a hijab that women need, you know,
- 48:50should look at from the from the daughter of the Prophet from the
- 48:52wives and recognize that that is the ideal of hijab, right again.
- 48:57And I'm not gonna, you know, point fingers at a sister if
- 48:59she's not wearing it because again, it is a struggle as men.
- 49:03We have no idea what it It is like to be that kind of singled
- 49:06out in society, right? We are beard.
- 49:09Does it signify anything? Right brown people have beards
- 49:13white. People have beards, right?
- 49:15We can change our names but when a Muslim woman wears the hijab,
- 49:18obviously, she becomes a fumble identifiable and many times,
- 49:22unfortunately may be a target for four people, right?
- 49:26So I'm not saying that women, you know, that they remove the
- 49:29hijab, right? But it will take the.
- 49:31I mean, I think we need to have an educational process, really?
- 49:34Revamp to understand why the hijab is there show.
- 49:38The verses of the Quran show, the Hadith, the Practical
- 49:40example. And I think we have to develop
- 49:43it right as a community and I think at the same time as we
- 49:46talked about in the beginning, that we can't be judgmental with
- 49:48one another. Yeah, we need to recognize that
- 49:50we're all on that path towards Islam towards true submission,
- 49:54to Allah but we're all traveling at a different pace and we you
- 49:59know and if we kind of are too abrupt or harsh with somebody on
- 50:04that, We might kind of divert them completely away from God,
- 50:08right? And we don't want to do that.
- 50:09We don't want to be responsible, at least.
- 50:11I don't want to be responsible for somebody who was trying to
- 50:14travel a path towards Allah to completely make them diverted
- 50:18and and they hate God or they hate people of religion or they
- 50:21hate the prophet or Yahoo debate.
- 50:23And we see that happening, right?
- 50:25People are burning the Koran they're using vulgarities
- 50:28against the prophet in the National debate.
- 50:30Over, you know, what's happening in the world today.
- 50:33And maybe it's because they were just given a very bad taste of
- 50:35Islam by people who are very condescending and very rude in
- 50:38their, in their, you know, trying to get them to follow or
- 50:41to teach in the religion. Sure, sure.
- 50:44Sure. Also.
- 50:45It's just, I mean, so much to think about, and so much to
- 50:48digest, and I just want to make it clear and absolutely
- 50:51emphasize to the viewers or home that we are discussing this
- 50:55particular point. I think, as a back on the back
- 50:58of obviously, recent conversations, both in the news
- 51:01and the media around the world and online, of course.
- 51:03And we, as As three males discussing, this are purely
- 51:08analyzing it from an external perspective like this year.
- 51:10So there's well, we have no idea what sort of efforts and hard
- 51:14work. All of our sisters around the
- 51:16world are putting in. And we know, of course you have
- 51:19family members, we have mothers and sisters and daughters and so
- 51:21on. So we understand of course from
- 51:23a male's perspective how hard it is, you know, we cannot do
- 51:27anything but credit you for your efforts and shallow.
- 51:29We only pray that I'm a lost man.
- 51:31Tyler makes it easier for you and you know especially with all
- 51:34all of the noise and distraction and pressure around you keep
- 51:38going. And of course from from our
- 51:41perspective as men as hopefully lines for our for our community,
- 51:45we should be out there defending you in any way we can but it's a
- 51:49very important discussion to have a everyone at home.
- 51:51Just please please engage in this discussion put your
- 51:54comments Down Below on YouTube. Let us know what you think, how
- 51:58we can discuss this topic specifically on her job but also
- 52:01on the wider conversation of compulsion, in religion and The
- 52:05idea of judging each other and hopefully to try and find a
- 52:07solution said any last comments before we wrap up.
- 52:10Truly only Allah can judge us. That's all I can say sent.
- 52:14Yeah, I know many people always use the same.
- 52:16Only Allah can judge me. There is some truth behind it.
- 52:19There is yeah. Chef.
- 52:20Anything last to add, before we wrap up, you know, just
- 52:25recognize that life is a struggle life is difficult, and
- 52:30all of our struggles will come in different levels, different
- 52:33different times in our life. Life.
- 52:35And I would say, just always keep God in the Forefront,
- 52:38right? God told us in the Quran so many
- 52:41times. They're being a Believer will
- 52:42never be easy. Yeah.
- 52:43At the time of the previous prophets you know it was a
- 52:46challenge at the time of the last prophet is a challenge at
- 52:48the time of the last Imam is going to be even a greater
- 52:51challenge. So just keep our head up, right?
- 52:54Keep our focus on God, keep our, you know, eyes on the prize, and
- 52:58continue to just ask God for help right to guide us and keep
- 53:02us, you know, we say and then I set out to almost of game, you
- 53:04know. Itís and keep us on that
- 53:06straight path. And you know, when people are
- 53:07slipping and and situation is in society, become turbulent, we
- 53:12just have to ask God for our feet to be firm, right?
- 53:15And to be able to stay on the path of Islam, as taught by the
- 53:18prophet and the eyelid bait. Peace, be upon all of them.
- 53:21Awesome, Chef. It's been an absolute pleasure.
- 53:24Having thank you, very great to be here.
- 53:25It's been great to be here today.
- 53:27And will we be seeing you again, is the main question.

- 53:34Initially, we'll be in the UK soon.

- 53:50challenges but, you know, achievements as a community that
- 53:52we've made and how we can keep the momentum rolling as a
- 53:55community loves so much chocolate eggs and I'm sure the
