- 0:02Speaker 1: All right, it's the day before Yeah, November fourth, Monday
- 0:06Speaker 1: on the Morning Show with Preston Scott and Preston. He's
- 0:08Speaker 1: ose it is Show five thousand, two hundred and sixty eight.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Great to be with you this morning. Thrilled to have
- 0:15Speaker 1: time with you. As always, we appreciate you joining us
- 0:18Speaker 1: and we are always thrilled to have with us. Florida
- 0:20Speaker 1: Governor round a santus Governor. Not only how are you,
- 0:23Speaker 1: but how's the first lady? How are the first kiddos?
- 0:27Speaker 2: Well? Play you? The first lady is excellent. The kids
- 0:30Speaker 2: overall are doing outstanding. But you know, they're all die
- 0:34Speaker 2: hard Florida State fans and this has been a very
- 0:36Speaker 2: rough season for them, especially my first grader, my son Mason,
- 0:39Speaker 2: he is probably the biggest fan there is. I mean
- 0:43Speaker 2: we were when they played SMU you know, remember that
- 0:47Speaker 2: was a Saturday night game. You had Alabama Georgia, which
- 0:49Speaker 2: was the biggest game of the country. And he would
- 0:51Speaker 2: not let us turn the TV off s SMUFSU even
- 0:55Speaker 2: when they were losing big. And so it's been rough.
- 0:58Speaker 2: We are going to not I'd planned to go to
- 1:00Speaker 2: the Notre Dame, So we're going to Notre Dame next weekend,
- 1:02Speaker 2: I'm going to give a lecture on campus and do something.
- 1:04Speaker 2: I've never been to a football game at Notre Dame,
- 1:07Speaker 2: but when I committed to do that, I was thinking
- 1:09Speaker 2: this would be like with a playoff berth on the line,
- 1:12Speaker 2: So that part of it. He's especially my son, a
- 1:16Speaker 2: little little rough fledding on the football.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Yeah, sach cloth and ashes around here as well. I
- 1:21Speaker 1: know how he feels. We all share that. I'm curious.
- 1:26Speaker 1: We're a day out on a scale of one to ten,
- 1:30Speaker 1: with ten being completely confident. Nationally speaking, we know Florida's
- 1:33Speaker 1: going to hold a good election and a fair election.
- 1:36Speaker 1: What's your confidence level one to ten nationally Well, Florida's.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Ten out of ten. You will get a very transparent election.
- 1:46Speaker 2: You can track the votes as they're coming in, not
- 1:48Speaker 2: the results yet, but who's voting. You'll be able to
- 1:50Speaker 2: do that all throughout tomorrow. As soon as the polls close,
- 1:53Speaker 2: we'll know how many people voted. The count will continue
- 1:56Speaker 2: to proceed, and the results will be published. That's the
- 1:58Speaker 2: way it's supposed to be. Is it going to be
- 2:00Speaker 2: in some of these states further north? I don't have
- 2:03Speaker 2: the same level of confidence I think they take the
- 2:06Speaker 2: position that you just count for days and that somehow
- 2:09Speaker 2: is okay. Well, what ends up happening is you have
- 2:12Speaker 2: one candidate maybe leading on election night, they just keep
- 2:15Speaker 2: counting the next day and then what Thursday afternoon, a
- 2:18Speaker 2: new candidate takes the lead. It does not inspire confidence.
- 2:21Speaker 2: So unfortunately, I think you are going to see some
- 2:25Speaker 2: of these states lag. I don't think we're going to
- 2:27Speaker 2: get those states though, some of those key key states
- 2:31Speaker 2: called on election night, like you will in Florida.
- 2:34Speaker 1: When it comes to Florida's ballot measures, We've got some
- 2:37Speaker 1: constitutional amendments, and two of them are really significantly important
- 2:42Speaker 1: as it relates to their impact on the state. Let's
- 2:45Speaker 1: start with Amendment three. Your thoughts on the marijuana amendment.
- 2:48Speaker 2: First, just this is a constitutional amendment. You can't undring
- 2:52Speaker 2: this bell. You are taking this issue away from future
- 2:55Speaker 2: generations of Floridians to decide through the normal electoral process.
- 3:00Speaker 2: You can't change it once it's in the constitution. So
- 3:03Speaker 2: if they say you're already hearing people say, oh yeah,
- 3:05Speaker 2: Amendment three slat, but the legislature will fix it. You
- 3:08Speaker 2: can't fix a constitutional amendment by normal legislation. So what
- 3:11Speaker 2: I tell people is the default on these amendments should
- 3:14Speaker 2: be no. They, the people proposing this, have a burden
- 3:18Speaker 2: to prove to you beyond any doubt that this is
- 3:21Speaker 2: going to be good for Florida. If they don't have
- 3:23Speaker 2: that burden, the safe vote is no. Now Amendment three.
- 3:25Speaker 2: It's important to say, how did it get on your ballot?
- 3:28Speaker 2: Got on your ballot because one megaweed company CEO wrote
- 3:31Speaker 2: it and they've now put over one hundred and forty
- 3:34Speaker 2: million dollars into passing it. It is written to benefit
- 3:38Speaker 2: them and their other kind of monopolists that they have
- 3:41Speaker 2: a handful of these mega companies. So, for example, you'll
- 3:45Speaker 2: have the right to possess and smoke marijuana, but only
- 3:48Speaker 2: if you buy it from them. They do not give
- 3:50Speaker 2: you the right to grow your own. They also don't
- 3:53Speaker 2: provide any prohibitions on public use of marijuana. And in fact,
- 3:57Speaker 2: the way it's written, I think it would be impossible
- 3:59Speaker 2: to that. Talk to people in Denver, talk to people
- 4:02Speaker 2: in Manhattan. This has permeated those societies that would happen
- 4:06Speaker 2: in Florida tenfold. And here's the thing. Sometimes they'll say
- 4:10Speaker 2: it's about freedom, Well, if it was about freedom, they
- 4:13Speaker 2: would have put that you could grow your own. But
- 4:15Speaker 2: I also am concerned about the freedom of Floridians who
- 4:18Speaker 2: don't want to be involved in marijuana, because I think
- 4:20Speaker 2: a lot of people are like, you know, what you're
- 4:21Speaker 2: doing in your house, like, you know, we don't really care.
- 4:23Speaker 2: But if you're out on the street, you know, in
- 4:26Speaker 2: a park somewhere, walking down downtown, should should this be
- 4:30Speaker 2: something that infringes on you? And that will absolutely happen.
- 4:33Speaker 2: But probably the most galling thing about Amendment three, and
- 4:37Speaker 2: you don't get this from just reading the ballot You
- 4:38Speaker 2: actually have to go online read the text of the
- 4:40Speaker 2: amendment because the text is what will be in the Constitution,
- 4:44Speaker 2: not the ballot summary that was written by by the company.
- 4:47Speaker 2: They do it in a way to make it seem innocuous.
- 4:50Speaker 2: They give themselves total immunity from civil liability, and so
- 4:54Speaker 2: if they sell you defective weed, you're not going to
- 4:57Speaker 2: be able to assue them. You're talking about negli against
- 5:00Speaker 2: product liability, all these things. I've never seen that done period.
- 5:05Speaker 2: And so just understand where this come from. This is
- 5:07Speaker 2: one company looking to guarantee a stream of revenue for itself.
- 5:12Speaker 2: On the backs of Floridians, and they're willing to ensconce
- 5:14Speaker 2: themselves on our constitution to do it. There's a lot
- 5:18Speaker 2: of it. I mean, if you're opposed to marijuana, obviously
- 5:21Speaker 2: you vote no. If you're indifferent about marijuana, you vote
- 5:24Speaker 2: no on this because it's a horribly written amendment. But
- 5:26Speaker 2: even if you're someone that's a marijuana enthusiast, why would
- 5:29Speaker 2: you reward a big weed cartel. This is the opposite
- 5:34Speaker 2: of what you should be doing. So my recommendation is
- 5:37Speaker 2: that this is an easy no. It does not belong
- 5:40Speaker 2: in Florida's constitution. And that's true whether you love marijuana
- 5:44Speaker 2: or hate marijuana.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Monday, the day before tomorrow, a remarkably consequential day and
- 5:52Speaker 1: sadly series of days because of the way the election
- 5:55Speaker 1: is likely to unfold, an handful of states joining US.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Florida's governor round Is Santas Governor to saying is I
- 6:00Speaker 1: was I was as stunned by the decision of the
- 6:05Speaker 1: state Supreme Court to place Amendment four on the ballot.
- 6:09Speaker 1: I'm sixty four years old now, and this was the
- 6:11Speaker 1: most stunning decision I've seen in my lifetime. What was
- 6:14Speaker 1: your reaction when you learned it was going to be
- 6:16Speaker 1: on the ballot.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Well, we were obviously disappointed. I mean, they don't define
- 6:21Speaker 2: any of the terms, and you're putting something on the
- 6:24Speaker 2: ballot that we don't even necessarily know what it's going
- 6:27Speaker 2: to do. It was a four to three split, so
- 6:29Speaker 2: clearly you had three justices that saw it a different way.
- 6:34Speaker 2: But here's the thing again, this is a constitutional amendment.
- 6:38Speaker 2: If you're not one hundred percent sure that what's in
- 6:40Speaker 2: here is good, then you vote no on him. I'd
- 6:43Speaker 2: also say this, this is they don't define the terms,
- 6:47Speaker 2: but we know how they would go into court and
- 6:50Speaker 2: seek very radical interpretations of this. And so for example,
- 6:54Speaker 2: there's no definitions anywhere. That'll be a transfer of power
- 6:57Speaker 2: from the people of Florida to courts for decades. They'll
- 7:00Speaker 2: be hashing this stuff out. Second, there's really no limitations
- 7:03Speaker 2: on when elective abortions can be performed now in Florida.
- 7:07Speaker 2: All their ads are lies about Florida law. Florida allows
- 7:11Speaker 2: any necessary medical treatment life health of the mother, that
- 7:13Speaker 2: there's even exceptions for rape, incess victims of human trafficking.
- 7:17Speaker 2: That's mostly what their ads focus on. Even though our
- 7:20Speaker 2: law does not impact that, but they would allow abortions
- 7:24Speaker 2: for no reason through at least six months of pregnancy.
- 7:28Speaker 2: At that point a baby can feel pain, is fully formed, heartbeats, sucking.
- 7:32Speaker 2: To stumb all this stuff, but in reality, if you
- 7:34Speaker 2: read beyond that, it says any quote healthcare provider can
- 7:37Speaker 2: greenlight and abortion at any time if the healthcare provider
- 7:41Speaker 2: thinks it's necessary for quote patients health. But they don't
- 7:43Speaker 2: define patients health. We do in the statute, so it's
- 7:46Speaker 2: effectively no limit. So that's I think very troubling to
- 7:49Speaker 2: a lot of people. And here's the thing late term
- 7:51Speaker 2: abortions in the United States, because there are states like
- 7:53Speaker 2: Colorado that have no limits at all. The way in
- 7:55Speaker 2: nine months they happen. There's tens of thousands a year,
- 7:59Speaker 2: and most of them are in fact elective. That's just
- 8:02Speaker 2: the reality. You will then see that become a factive
- 8:04Speaker 2: life in Florida. But then this idea of healthcare provider,
- 8:08Speaker 2: that's very important language because people that are pro life
- 8:11Speaker 2: have said a lot of people are like, look, they
- 8:13Speaker 2: don't like abortion, they want it to be rare, but
- 8:15Speaker 2: they think it should be a decision between the mother
- 8:17Speaker 2: and the doctor. Mother and the doctor. That's what you hear.
- 8:20Speaker 2: A healthcare provider is not the same as a doctor,
- 8:22Speaker 2: so you will not need to be a physician. And
- 8:25Speaker 2: so I think that opens up a huge can of worms.
- 8:28Speaker 2: I think it's going to be very dangerous to have
- 8:29Speaker 2: these abortion clinics manned by non physicians greenlighting late term abortions.
- 8:34Speaker 2: And then another important thing is it eliminates the parental
- 8:38Speaker 2: consent for miners, and they do it very deceptively because
- 8:41Speaker 2: they say you can do parental notification, but a notice
- 8:45Speaker 2: is not the same as consent. So in Florida, they
- 8:48Speaker 2: can't give your kid a tailant all at school without
- 8:51Speaker 2: parental consent. But somehow they would be able a miner
- 8:55Speaker 2: would be able to get a late term abortion greenlit
- 8:58Speaker 2: by a non physician without the parents consent. That's in
- 9:01Speaker 2: the constitution forever. You're never going to be able to
- 9:04Speaker 2: get those rights back as a parent. And the final thing
- 9:07Speaker 2: just for voters that think about because this is not
- 9:09Speaker 2: a parent from the text of the amendment. But they
- 9:11Speaker 2: did the same thing in Michigan, they passed something similar.
- 9:14Speaker 2: They went into court and said taxpayer money is required
- 9:18Speaker 2: to go to these abortions and so they will do
- 9:20Speaker 2: that here in Florida. They will try to find a
- 9:21Speaker 2: liberal judge and they will see taxpayer fighting of abortions.
- 9:25Speaker 2: So that very well maybe the case if this passes.
- 9:28Speaker 2: So this is a really bad amendment, not good to
- 9:31Speaker 2: put in a constitution. It would not be good policy
- 9:33Speaker 2: if the legislature did it, because a lot of parents
- 9:36Speaker 2: wouldn't want their you know, the rights rescinded. People wouldn't
- 9:38Speaker 2: want to see late term abortions, all these other things.
- 9:42Speaker 2: And I think the fact that they've lied so much
- 9:44Speaker 2: about what Florida law does, you know, why not just
- 9:47Speaker 2: tell the truth about your amendment. This is such a
- 9:49Speaker 2: great amendment, why not say what great things that's doing.
- 9:51Speaker 2: They never talk about that, And now they're basically because
- 9:55Speaker 2: they've been refuted a lot in Florida, so now they're
- 9:57Speaker 2: talking about Ohio and all these other states that have
- 10:00Speaker 2: nothing to do with Florida. So, yes, this is this
- 10:03Speaker 2: is an easy no. Certainly if your pro life, it's no.
- 10:05Speaker 2: But even if you're not, this is definitely not the
- 10:07Speaker 2: way to do it.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Yeah, it's an extremist amendment. And you know, I just
- 10:11Speaker 1: go back to what Matt Staber and I'm sure, you know,
- 10:14Speaker 1: Matt with Liberty Council. He pointed out, no law shall prohibit,
- 10:18Speaker 1: and I mean it kind of just stops right there,
- 10:20Speaker 1: no law shall prohibit, and then it's filling the blank
- 10:23Speaker 1: from that point forward, isn't it?
- 10:25Speaker 2: Absolutely? And this is intentional the way they did this,
- 10:30Speaker 2: they know what they're doing. Part of it was pull
- 10:32Speaker 2: tested because they wanted to seem innocuous. And one of
- 10:35Speaker 2: the things we found when it did get put on
- 10:36Speaker 2: the ballot and just doing some research, they were pro
- 10:39Speaker 2: lifers that thought somehow this was pro life because they
- 10:41Speaker 2: thought viability meant the pregnancy itself is viable, instead of
- 10:45Speaker 2: it being twenty six weeks in, which is probably the
- 10:48Speaker 2: minimum they would they would want. So, yes, so this
- 10:51Speaker 2: thing is going to open up a huge can of worms.
- 10:54Speaker 2: It's not not the way to do business. They've lied
- 10:56Speaker 2: to you to try to pass it. Fortunately, I think
- 10:58Speaker 2: people have wised down to it. I think that both
- 11:02Speaker 2: of these amendments have lost support, you know, over the
- 11:04Speaker 2: last couple of months, but this one I think in
- 11:06Speaker 2: particular because I think the lies have been so brazen.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Governor. Thanks for the time, as always, I appreciate you
- 11:12Speaker 1: prying it out of your schedule and after the election,
- 11:14Speaker 1: when the smoke clears, I hope we have you back
- 11:16Speaker 1: on to talk about what we do next.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Let's do it.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Thank you, sir. Governor Ron Desatus with us this morning,
- 11:22Speaker 1: and seventeen eighteen passed the hour. It's The Morning Show
- 11:25Speaker 1: with Preston Scott
