- speaker-0: Yeah This week on Full Credit to the Noise, the Hills are alive in Austria, Porsche cleans up in Spa, and SVG hands out lessons in Sonoma. Welcome to Full Credit to the Noise. Well hello. Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, and welcome to Full Credits of the Noise. You can find this podcast on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook at FCTTN Podcast. You can find me on Instagram, Twitter, Blue Sky, and Facebook at Former underscore legend. You can find the white across me on Twitter at AVL underscore motorsport. He's on Instagram at AVL dot motorsport. He's the man who this week screamed, Park the Bus four hundred times at the television. He's recently defended his Australian Lion Dancing Championship for the fifth year in a row, and tonight he's wearing a Carl for PM Hat. Welcome to Speed Cafe's Andrew Van Lewen. speaker-1: Hello Forma, yes it is very interesting times in the mainstream media landscape isn't it? the last week in light of what's happening. Have you had any calls from Channel 9? No. Do you like getting up early? speaker-0: N not since I've been doing the cash cow job, it's not it's a conflict of interest obviously. ⁓ yeah, no, ⁓ everyone's saying feel sorry for Carl. Pretty sure Carl's doing okay. I don't think we need to feel too sorry for him. No. ⁓ speaker-1: I he's got a plan to this whole thing to be honest. speaker-0: Yeah, you reckon? Gee. it's almost like he was trying to get sacked. Well done defending the Australian Lion Dancing Championship for the fifth year in a row. what was the big move this year you pulled off? speaker-1: Well, I wish that was actually true because I didn't do any winning on the racetrack over the weekend. I wish there was something I got out of the weekend that would have involved a trophy. speaker-0: You had to go to the line dance unless you could have kissed your cousin, I suppose. What happened on the weekend? How'd you go? No good. speaker-1: Nah, no good. Just got a few car issues. the driver probably wasn't at his sharpest, so it wasn't a day to write. We were only running two cars and one of only had three wheels left on it by the end of qualifying. that's... We probably should have just packed up the whole show and gone over that point, I think, to be perfectly honest. So, yes, very forgettable day at the racetrack, unfortunately. But anyway, we'll try again next time. speaker-0: I tell you what, long, long lots of to watch things in motorsport over the weekend. Did you see any of Spa? speaker-1: ⁓ No, no, was one of the, was something I had to give in between my own racing and ⁓ all the other racing that was going on and that was the one that did. speaker-0: Well, just like your one of your Formula Fords ending up with three wheels. After one lap there were five cars out ⁓ in a twenty four hour race. You gotta ask how does that even happen? ⁓ at Puhan, th basically just five cars just I I don't know, like two cars into one on the first lap just doesn't I don't get it around there. But starting from Pitt Lane, the line speed Porsche passed sixty two cars to win the ⁓ twice around the clock classic, driven by Thomas Preening. Bastion Boos and Ricardo Feller, all pretty common to Australia at some stages. Matt Campbell was the best placed Australian finishing in fourth, and it's another year, ABL, that I didn't go. It's another year closer to death when I need to get to that race. speaker-1: Well, you know what to do. Get on a plane and go. speaker-0: Tell you what, the Minister of Finances was not keen when I brought it up ⁓ over the weekend, but ⁓ anyway. Alright, let's go to the shift cut because we'll go to talk about Grand Prix stuff early. And it's one of the most spectacular Grand Prix of the year over the Austrian Grand Prix. ⁓ have you been to that track? speaker-1: I have, yes, I covered DTM there. speaker-0: Does it look as good to the naked eye as it does on T V? 'Cause it is just spectacular. speaker-1: No, it is absolutely amazing. It is an incredible place. One of the best tracks that I went to when I was in Europe. speaker-0: And it always turns on good racing, although there were points last night where I was questioning that ⁓ statement, but ⁓ we'll get to that in a minute. ⁓ qualifying, ⁓ the hall monitor, George, ⁓ Russell got pole from the two Ferraris. Despite running through wave yellows when Max crashed on the second last corner in Q three, he had to lift, he said, ⁓ and somehow still got it on pole. I'm gonna ask you this. How is it possible to prove you've lifted enough to assess the situation and act accordingly and still go faster than anyone else over your? speaker-1: Well, it's obviously a, you know, there's no kind of set. have to have lost this much time or whatever. You're not allowed to improve in a sector with a single wave yellow flag. And he didn't improve in that sector. And that the data clearly shows that he had a lift. It's always really hard to tell. They were kind of cutting to the audio and like Dave is saying, well, let's listen for the lift. And it's like, this is the super clipping age. Like these things can just stop accelerating at any time for no reason while your foot's flat to the floor. Like it's so hard to tell. But obviously the data suggested that he did. have a lift. I do find it difficult to get my head around the fact that you can take pole position for a Formula One race and still have taken enough care around a yellow flag situation. Remembering yellow flags are kind of the, unless you can actually cite what has happened, you know, and then you can press on in a yellow flag situation, a single yellow, but he clearly couldn't. So I think it was very much on the edge of, ⁓ what is acceptable. It's a tricky, I find this a really tricky one because as you know, we were chatting about it in the Discord when it happened. My first impression was that there's no way that lap can stand. speaker-0: I believe you said something along the lines of that's bullshit. speaker-1: Well, I might have. I may well. ⁓ speaker-0: I think there's another word in there, but we'll move on from that. speaker-1: When you, ⁓ when you unpack it all, the rules do actually sit on Georgia's side of the argument. So I do also usually sit on the side of play on as much as possible. You know, like I do think that, you know, I've been critical of super cars doing way, trying to way too much with slow zones and VSCs and all that, all that stuff. And, and, and I've always pushed the idea that we trust the yellow and double wave yellow flag systems. ⁓ and I guess in this case, George, did technically do that, but it didn't, the optics of it just weren't that good. And I still, yeah, the fact that he could have taken sufficient care and still been on pole for a Grand Prix, they just don't line up for me. I think they need to look at it and say, you know, what do we, what do we need to look for? Like I sort of, you know, and I think I felt bad for Kimmy kind of beating himself up for not doing the same when he actually did exactly the right thing. speaker-0: I totally agree. Absolutely. speaker-1: Like, and he was a bit closer because he got there first. Yeah. I think there was still a lot of data and you can see him look over and there's a lot of dust and stuff everywhere. And he's, he's done what he's done, the right thing and gone, well, clearly I can't grab pole with his lap. This place is going to fly into the wall. So he's got out of it and he actually did the right thing. And then he's standing there saying how he made a mistake. And that's what doesn't really sit well with me either. The guy that did the right thing. Feels like he made a mistake and the guy that really took a lot of risk. speaker-0: You got to see him go on the wall. speaker-1: in terms of what is legal and acceptable got pole position for the race. speaker-0: Yeah. I after after qualifying when they were interviewing ⁓ the drivers, 'cause he's it l let's let's call a spade a spade. The whole monitor's very unlikable to most normal thinking human beings. And so when he's sitting there like the cat that swallowed the canary, it was even more galling to me to l just to watch all this play out in real time. But I mean the saving graces, I suppose, Tono's so damn lovable that you just think, ⁓ fair enough, you you k you scoundrels. Because he came out and basically said, ⁓ you know, ⁓ he d he did lift, he lifted and it cost us two tenths. Two tenths to me, just as you said, going past a crash scene would suggest to me that I know it's Formula One and I know these are the greatest drivers in the world and they've probably got spotters who can tell them what's going on from monitors. But at the same time I just don't think that's the respectable thing to do in a situation where there's a car slapped into the wall. speaker-1: Yeah. And, and the thing is that actually the way it played out, the car was more than far enough away and there were no marshals hanging around. So it was actually fine, but he didn't know that tipping in. ⁓ and single wave means to take care. It doesn't mean, know, you don't have to be as cautious as double wave, double wave. Obviously the lap would never have stood, but still, I think that the FIA has to look at it and say, well, what are the optics of this? What are we trying to teach young drivers to do? speaker-0: That's right. speaker-1: ⁓ and do we need to have a think about how we actually do this, particularly cause quite often, ⁓ single wave yellows become double wave yellows, which is exactly what happened here. Like several seconds later, then he would have been doing the wrong thing. it, to me, ⁓ like I say, I'm usually, I'd be arguing the other side of this and saying, ⁓ look, it's, you know, the car was out of the way. We, want this to play on, but. at that part of the track and you can't, it's so easy to drop a wheel and make a mistake at Austria and end up off the road. It just felt, I, yeah, I just, I'm not comfortable with the way he, the way he tackled it and the way he went about it. And the fact that he was so quickly on the front foot, soon as he jumped out of the car was defending himself. The person involved knows that they are right on the limit and they have to make their case quickly and effectively. speaker-0: Usually pretty good selling. Yeah, well we go forward twenty four hours and the Hall monitor George Russell basically capitalized on starting from pole and went away to win the race. I don't think he was ever headed. If he was, it was only over a the pit over ⁓ pit stop strategy. But ⁓ Max was second, which was a very, very good drive. Almost ⁓ encouraging I'd almost say, but we'll see. And then the other Kimmy was third. ⁓ he again lost his mind for the first two or three laps ABL. He was he was doing Joker laps every yeah. speaker-1: Yeah, I know. speaker-0: He was driving first first rail of the grandstand a couple of times where he was just going long and deep into into corners. But I mean, for him to come third was a a good effort. Oscar was fourth, which was a bit of an unsung effort, to be honest. I mean he he just got the job done. The two Ferraris or the ones that we're talking about, they sunk like boat anchors. They I don't know whether it was the heat or whatever it was, but they were just horrible. speaker-1: Yep, absolutely nothing worked. mean we saw a bit of good racing between Lewis and Max early in the race but after that they didn't seem to get anything right strategically. It was just a classic Ferrari performance. They just didn't have the car in the window. Not a single set of tyres worked. You could see Lewis really struggling with the back end of the car and and Charles never even seemed like he was in the race at all. Really he was just constantly under fire. Yeah, that was that was pretty disappointing from Ferrari and obviously Lewis banked a few points but it has kind of taken the the sting out of that hole like ⁓ can he challenge for the title are these guys really in the fight because ⁓ unique conditions with the heat but yeah just they just really didn't seem in the fight at all and as you say you've got Max suddenly back up there that may you know they've brought some upgrades maybe it's because of that maybe it is just the unique ⁓ factors like the heat at that circuit and the fact that Max does go so well there. And then you've got the Mercedes thing. mean, George wasn't the quickest driver out there, but you don't have to be when you're leading the race. the advantage that you have that you can kind of dictate the pace of the race. ⁓ But Max was probably quicker and Kimi was really quick at the end. And at the very start, I was a little bit worried that the way Kimi was driving that... Like, ⁓ God, what, what's going on here? this the, is this the point where we go, hang on a minute? This is a kid in his, this is a 19 year old or whatever in his second year of Formula One. And maybe we're, ⁓ sort of hailing him as the, as the new sort of one of the greats. We've maybe got a bit early on, on this and we're about to sort of see his inexperience, but he gathered it all back up and drove a pretty impressive race to be, you know, what less than two seconds behind his, ⁓ his teammate at the end of it. So. speaker-0: You know who else was impressive was Liam Lawson because on lap five he reported his car was on fire. Pretty ⁓ sounds sounded similar to the Talladega night scene where he's gonna jump out and just run around his undies. ⁓ and it was an astonishing drive for him to then do sixty-five more laps in what was a basically the mobile towering inferno to finish ninth. ⁓ but he did have a blue with Arvid Lindblad. Did you hear about this? So if you dig down deeper, apparently they allowed Arvid to speaker-1: No, I didn't. speaker-0: pit first before Liam so he could cover off on one of the Audies. And then when he came then when Liam came out of pits, the deal was is to let Liam go because he he actually allowed Arvid to pit, but no, Arvid jumped in front of him and Liam apparently gave him a fair character reference on the radio to suggest that maybe that's not the ideal thing, ⁓ to play like a team. Then there was a safety car and apparently during the safety car period or the VSC, ⁓ The team spent much of that s assuring Liam it was all gonna be right once we could go back to Green, which it was, but ⁓ it would have been an interesting little team debrief after the race. speaker-1: It's always, there's, there is always tension in a team like that because obviously being part of effectively a graduation pathway, you know, like you are fighting for your career there. And it's very rare that Red Bull turns around at end of the year and says, right, you've both done great. You're both off the Red Bull racing. Like it's kind of, and they need to keep making room to bring the new Red Bull talent through. Like that's the point of the team existing. You can imagine the pressure that is on there in terms of your head to head with your teammate because ultimately you're not both. It's not a destination seat. It's not like being at our pain or something. If we work really well together, we can both have a great long career driving this car around. You know, there's going to be chopping and changing in that team. That's why it exists. So I can understand where these flash points of tension come from, just from the pressure of that environment. speaker-0: Yeah. I the other thing that was sort of of interest too was poor old Kimmy Antonelli, the other Kimmy, he he pitted twice a lap before the VSC and if he hadn't of, things might have been a little bit more interesting up at the front. He might have actually had a chance to have a crack at George. speaker-1: Yeah, for sure. But look, think Kimmy just needs to be pretty happy with how that all played out in the end and sit back and say, right, I was actually probably quicker than George in the last two races. It's just circumstance. And, know, in this case, obviously it would circumstance because the qualifying thing put him on the back foot. If he starts on the front row, it could have been a very different race. Yeah. And go look, fundamentally, I feel like I was probably quicker than George. I've got a 40 point lead in the championship still. The fact he's lost 28 points in the last two races does highlight how quickly these things change and how nothing is. anything like a foregone conclusion. ⁓ yeah, I think he should head to Silverstone going, you know what, this is a, this is a pretty good position for me to be in. ⁓ and I think he needs to head to Silverstone, you know, understanding that there's a very good chance that George is going to have a really good weekend there because it's his home race. He's, you know, there's just every chance that he is going to respond to that step up and be really quick. And Kimmy should be looking at it and going, all right, we'll look a strong weekend. coming second here even would be absolutely fine. And then let's sort of see what we do from there, but you don't want to see a repeat of that, like just that massive over-driving that he was doing at the start of that race, because somebody like Silverstone, if you get it wrong, you can have a pretty big shunt take yourself out of the race and, and, and bleed another 25 points. speaker-0: All right, what do you want? Do you want an unpopular opinion or do you want me to ask you a perplexing question? speaker-1: Let's go with an unpopular opinion. speaker-0: I liked the drone camp. I didn't think it was as offensive as everyone was carrying on. I actually thought it gave us a a good view a couple of times. speaker-1: I liked it if it was just that atmospheric shot when you're like trying to find out whether Lewis Hamilton's just sent Max Verstappen into a triple cartwheel through the gravel. Like it's sort of like, is not the camera, the angle. This is not what we should be watching. But I didn't, I found it okay as a kind of a fun atmospheric shot for when there's speaker-0: Tell you what it goes. It's got some legs. ⁓ all right, my question for you. Tono said after the race, when he was interviewed by media, that Red Bull's improvement this weekend was all down to Max. Question Why would he say that, Avial? Is it a shot at Red Bull? Is it to glaze Max? W why would he say that? What do you think the motivation is to say that at all? speaker-1: Yep, sure does. ⁓ I don't actually know. didn't sort of ⁓ part out that comment in particular. It didn't jump out at me. ⁓ yeah, I'm not sure why he would want to take aim at Isaac Hajjar specifically. speaker-0: Well, that's another w angle I hadn't even thought of, to be honest, but I thought it was more a shot at the Red Bull team and saying, Look, you've you've done nothing as far as your car's concerned, it's just your driver. Well then I thought maybe it's him saying, Max, come to the dark side. speaker-1: I just don't feel like that's on the cards at the moment. Like it sort of just feels like that Mercedes lineup is pretty settled. I mean if it was on the cards I'd be worried if I was George. speaker-0: Of course. ⁓ they're not gonna get rid of Kimmy. There's no speaker-1: So, I kind of, ⁓ yeah, I don't really think that there's any angling to try and get, ⁓ to try and get max at the moment. speaker-0: Well the McLaren rumour is now back on the cards. I don't see that happening either, I've got to be honest. speaker-1: No, there was some talk about some meetings going on and obviously, ⁓ Max Verstappen's manager made that comment early in the weekend about how, you know, Red Bull is family, but Max wasn't born to race in the midfield. So, but I mean, they just finished second and almost won the race. So I guess it's, know, let's wait and see how it, how it unfolds, but there's not any really obvious pathways or better options out there for Max at the moment to be perfectly honest, because I, I, you know, Zach Brown was pretty. You know, he, he, he said he doesn't see any reason why either of his drivers are going anywhere. Yeah. When he was asked about that, I mean, you're always investigating the market. You're always want to find out who's doing what and you know, what they're signed up for and when they could be available, particularly if they're a full time world champion. But Zach didn't really bite at, at the whole thing when asked about it. Ferrari, would think, you know, they've just kind of, there's this investment in shale, ⁓ as they're kind of the their presence as well, but their future. And it's hard to argue that the Lewis thing isn't going pretty good for him at the moment. I just kind of don't really see where Max necessarily, unless he really rolls the dice on an Aston Martin or something like that. speaker-0: Good luck. Mike. speaker-1: where the better option than Red Bull is. speaker-0: ⁓ in F three we should mention ⁓ Aussie James Wharton, who wound up fourth i in the sprint race on Saturday. I tell you what, he was second with a lap and a half to go and put two wheels on the dirt, which ended up costing him two more spots. And in the feature race he qualified twelfth, so Sunday wasn't all great to talk about. But I mean, given he's come back from that injury, it's starting to look a little bit positive towards how he's travelling. speaker-1: Yeah, and he had a win. Was it in Barcelona? had a sprint race win or something like that. yeah, it's obviously it sucks for James if he ran wide and lost a couple of spots late in the race, but how good is a circuit where that can happen? speaker-0: ⁓ mate, this is where it gravel traps give you everything you need. speaker-1: It's what makes this track great like that Qualifying it looks spectacular. You know, they're pushing you know, they're taking risk and we saw it with max You know, we saw him go off but even just dropping those wheels like that That's what car racing is all about. Yeah, and it's just it's a shame Yeah, it's a shame that it's so few times in an f1 season, you know, it's Monaco it's here It's a few of the other street tracks, but you know, yeah, there's just we just don't see it enough where you really speaker-0: Consequences. speaker-1: appreciate the risks these guys are taking because you can see how close to dropping off the edge of the curb and into the gravel there. speaker-0: Other F one news this week, the FOA have scrapped presidential term limits in a move that could allow Mohammed Ben Salaim to remain in power indefinitely, ⁓ to ruffle drivers' hair as long as he wants. ⁓ the change was approved by members ⁓ at the FIA's extraordinary General Assembly in Macau, removing the previous cap of three four year terms for the presidency and other senior roles. Ben Salaem was first selected at the end of twenty one, won a second term last December after running unopposed. It's a miracle. ⁓ under the previous statute he would have been limited to a maximum of twelve years in office. BB Sport BBC Sport reported the vote passed with ninety point seven one percent support. How does he do it? Although FIFA, sorry, FIA, ⁓ have not publicly confirmed the figure. Is this a good thing? That's not a good thing. speaker-1: I haven't really consumed enough sort of content from people in the know around it to fully understand it, but you know, he's a controversial figure and this feels like a controversial thing to do. That's really the long and the short of it. speaker-0: ⁓ Liam Lawson has downplayed speculation over his racing bull's future amidst reports he could be moved aside for the r from the Red Bull system for twenty seven. A report from Spanish outlet Soy Mota this week suggested F two driver Nikola Nikola Zolov has been guaranteed a seat at one of Red Bull's two F one teams next season. That has placed Lawson's future back under the spotlight, with a twenty four year old among the drivers listed as potentially being affected by any reshuffle. His twenty six campaign has reinforced his place amongst the ri midfield's most consistent performers, with racing bills also Racing Bulls sitting sixth in the constructors' championship. Wouldn't hurt last night, and the other thing too is the little blue with Harvard Libbl Lindblad and him saying, Well, I'm the better guy as far as the team's concerned wouldn't have hurt either. speaker-1: Yeah, yeah for sure. ⁓ at the end of the day lamb had a pretty good day in austria ⁓ on sunday well And I guess that's all he can really do like what what can he do? Like bear in mind. We haven't seen any real reporting about this from reputable outlets. ⁓ Sounds like something to go good with some ⁓ salmon sashimi and a bit of wasabi and some pickled ginger. I tell you that right now, but speaker-0: Soy motor, you're joking. I'm more an armand la armand motor enjoy myself or skim skim motor. speaker-1: But ⁓ yeah, but at the same time as exactly as we were just talking about the whole point of that Red Bull junior team is that you don't hang around forever So it's not a seed for life. No matter what he does. He's either got to impress enough to move up or move elsewhere or He won't stay in Formula one. So he's but he's doing a good job at the moment So I'm not I wouldn't be overly concerned if I was a Kiwi f1 fan speaker-0: ⁓ earlier this year, how's this at the Montreal F one Grand Prix, it was revealed that Lance Strahl told his team during the race he was only competing the race for the mechanics and his father Lawrence, the team owner. The radio message from Lance was ⁓ played from lap forty in Montreal when Formula One included in its post race weekend radio rewind video this week. After hearing his engineer Gary Gannon inform him about the gap to the car behind, Stroll made it clear he wasn't really bothered about those details and was only continuing for his mechanics and his dad who owns the team. He said, I'm completing the race for the mechanics, that's it and then said, ⁓ and Lawrence Probably a good idea to remember dad, ⁓ that stage. I'm completing completing the race for the mechanics and Lawrence, that's it. Which is a massive shout out to Adrian Newie and the engine supplier Honda Avial. Yeah. speaker-1: Exactly. Yep. What a disaster. It is. Would you? speaker-0: You th sure, I I I I gotta keep asking this. How long's he got? speaker-1: I don't know. I don't know. I think we're going to get onto this a bit later in the show, but yeah, it's just, it is just an absolute basket case. Like it's just, this is the team. And I've said this before. This is the team that smart reputable journalists in the F1 world where tipping was going to be the team that was going to turn F1 on its head this year. Yeah. With the works engine deal and Fernando Alonso with the wheel. Adrian Newey designing this car, brand new regulations. speaker-0: Idrien New Yeah. speaker-1: You know, there was, there were, there were proper journos who I really respect and trust who, who thought this would happen. And I'm not, I'm not saying that to highlight the fact they were wrong, but just to highlight how spectacularly bad it has gone for that team. Because people who know what they're talking about looked at all the ingredients and went, yep, this is going to work. And boy, ⁓ boy, it has not worked. speaker-0: Poor Nando. I know you feel a bit of sympathy for him. GT four Australia has con been confirmed for the Meguiar's Bathurst 12 hour undercard, which we I think we alluded to in February this year. This is your two sprint races. Strap yourself in because there's better news coming. Two sprint races as the curtain raiser to the GT3 based endurance race in February, but further to their opening round. speaker-1: no wheel hairs for me. speaker-0: GT World Challenge Australia will close out 2027 at Mount Panorama alongside Monochrome GT4 Australia as part of the Shannon Speed Series finale. Speed Cafe revealed on the weekend that the Bathurst Regional Council received a pitch from the SRO Motorsports Australia in recent weeks for a one off event at Mount Panorama. This is gonna shock you. I don't know this is all good. And more around the GT3 side of things. speaker-1: No, yeah, um, Stephen and I had a chat about this on the news pod last week when it was all sort of just coming out. It was just before it was all formally announced actually. Um, yeah, look, I don't love it. It's in October, like another Bathurst event in October. another, yeah, another GT event, GT4 Enduro for that October one. I mean, that's kind of interesting. Um, speaker-0: Two weeks later or something. speaker-1: It'll be interesting to see exactly how long that Enduro is and, know, whether they're going to bring refueling into it or whether that's going to be too costly. know there's been a bit of talk amongst GT four competitors about whether an Enduro is or isn't a good idea, but I think it's more interesting that they're giving it a go. So that's that, that's a good thing, but I don't know that, ⁓ yeah, to me, this is using Mount Panorama for the sake of using it. I have no problem with SRO trying to grab ahold of it. that this is something they've wanted to do. They obviously are involved in the 12 hour, but it's not their event. But to have just a GT event at Bathurst a couple of weeks after the 1000 and a couple of months before the Bathurst 12 hour. struggled to sit here and get hugely excited about it. You know what mean? speaker-0: Yeah. Yeah. It's got a real whiff of the international race. International, whatever that was thing was called when Yeah. The big international was Tony Dalberto. But Yeah. The big import. ⁓ yeah, I'm like I said, you you probably are surprised I'm not and I wonder whether speaker-1: Yeah, the pathos of Jeddashan. I thought you would have been all about it. I thought you would have been all about it. speaker-0: I ⁓ it made me wonder whether some of the Australian entries that actually race in the G in the twelve hour might say, you know what, that might do us. We don't have to race in the twelve hour this year, you know, and park it. So I don't know. ⁓ as exclusively predicted on this show a few weeks ago, ABL, one of IndyCar's longest and most successful partnerships looks like it could be about to end with Scott Dixon on the brink of leaving ⁓ Honda's top team Chip Ganassi Racing for Chevrolet rival McLaren. ⁓ as for those who could replace Dixon at Genaski, Speed Cafe ⁓ understands there could be a straight swap between the New Zealand and McLaren star Christian Lundgard. I think we said this about three weeks ago. This is on the cards. speaker-1: Yeah, there's a fair bit of chat about it out there now. ⁓ it'd be weird not seeing Scott Dixon as part of the CGR setup, but, but how fitting to have a, like a Kiwi and one of the greatest Kiwi motor racing exports driving for McLaren. Like there's something very funny about that. speaker-0: That's a good point. Is there ever a chance that he might come back into supercars at any stage? Does there be speaker-1: I really don't know. I've never heard him really talk about that. Like he's still just so strong in IndyCar. Like, ⁓ yeah, but who knows? That'd be cool. speaker-0: Yeah, true. Hmm. ⁓ Kiwi's Nozzsies overseas. Well, there was only one that let's talk about it. Shane Van Gisbergen put on perhaps the most dominant performance ever in the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts series to win at Sonoma. He started from pole position and only relinquished top spot during the pit stop sequence at the end of stage one and stage two. He led sixty-two laps of the seventy-nine lapper to defeat teammate Connor Zilich by one point three two seconds. He then doubled up today in the Cup Series ⁓ in the Truth Social three fifty ⁓ at Sonoma from six on the grid after spinning and qualifying. He l went out, hit the race or hit the lead early, and was basically it was just an S V G master class. Dominated from the get go, ⁓ scored a win from a pretty rapidly finishing, I gotta say, Chase Briscoe, who made it interesting with a few to go. speaker-1: Yeah, he's just an absolute master, isn't he? Like, he's just... He's just... Head and shoulders above him on this. We say it every time. Like, there's no new insight here, but he just continually shows the fact that... He can just school these blokes on these road courses. speaker-0: Dick, but two questions. Are they embarrassed by just the absolute domination of him? Because I think they're almost in the areas where they should be. speaker-1: You know, I think sometimes when someone is just so much better than you at something, kind of, it makes it easier to sort of swallow it. If you know what I mean? Like you just go like, yeah, I'm not even close. Like I'm not, I don't know. It's not like I don't know where those three tents are, but this bloke's like just so far down the road that I'm not, I clearly just don't possess the skills. Like. to do this like he does and I'm roughly around where everyone else is. So like I'm at least in the majority here. So I think that actually probably limits the embarrassment a little bit. think there's just general kind of, wonderment at what's happening in front of. speaker-0: My second question around this, why, for the life of me, wouldn't who was the last bloke to really give S VG a hard time in in racing? And I mean a hard time consistently. speaker-1: What in road like road course racing. speaker-0: Anything in his last categories. speaker-1: Well, obviously him and Scotty Mack went out. speaker-0: So why wouldn't they put Scotty in a Penskey? speaker-1: Yeah, yeah, that's a good point. That's a good point. Be interesting to see how he'd go on a road tour. Yeah, that's a really, that's a really good point. That's a really good point. speaker-0: Love to see it. Like just for the shits and giggles if nothing else. But ⁓ yeah. Anyway, ⁓ Moto GP, well Friday practice, Alex Marquez, who's just come back from surgery, ⁓ explained why his glove left ⁓ his left glove was missing as he sat in the gravel trap after a heavy red flag crash during practice at Asin. He said it was my fault I closed the glove, but with all the sweating and a lot of feet I needed to close it a little bit tighter. So just that it was my fault completely. I want to say sorry to Alpine Stars because in the end it's their image, but it was the writer's fault. So basically you see in the crash the glove fly off, which I never thought about it, but yeah, probably Alpine Stars is like, that's not a great look. but yeah, he ⁓ poor Alex hasn't done the on the done the glove up tight enough in the sprint on Saturday. Raoul Fernandez led home a track house one two. Beating ⁓ his April year teammate Ayagura by.362 of a second. Fabio D G Antonio completed the top three on the leading Ducati for VR forty six, while Marco Bazecchi extended his championship lead to nine points after finishing fourth ahead of April Year teammate Jorge Martin. But things quickly changed because on Sunday, Ayagura got his first motor GP win in an April podium. Paul Fernandez sorry, Raul Fernandez was second. Jorge Martin was third. But championship leader Marco Bosecchi had the mother of all get offs ABL, crashing hard in the opening laps. Legend has it that his ⁓ bike is still sitting in the sand trap with no marshals brave enough to pick it up just yet. speaker-1: Very good. That was a huge crash by huge crash. Yeah speaker-0: Those those ragdoll ones I don't like. speaker-1: Nah, nah, that was another one that had the discord up and chirping pretty hard like immediately as it, ⁓ as it happened. That was, ⁓ that was a scary one. So, ⁓ so glad he, ⁓ he was again, the, I still find driver conscious and incredibly low bar. I just find it a very low bar for this sort of sigh of relief and celebration. And let's start showing some replays because you sort of go, hang on to, he might be conscious, but as any of his bones in any, in one piece, like Yeah, but anyway, that's how they do it. speaker-0: Yeah, they sat him up in the sand trap and Marshalls with Turk and everyone thinking he's got a real whiff of weakened at Bernie's about it looking at him just then. Fine. All good. No drums. ⁓ in moto two, Senator Adius qualified seventh, but finished third in a strong race for him. Another good point of where he'll be heading next year, AVL. And in Moto three, Joel Kelso qualified second but dropped to eighth. But it was a pretty strong effort. Rotto. ⁓ we'll go to a super cheap anti ad then after the break. speaker-1: You speaker-0: revisit the $2 stock market AVL, something we do usually at the beginning of the year, and now we're gonna do it in the middle of the year. Some big specials there. It's Super Cheap again, ABL. I thought we'd do the two dollar stock market. So basically how this works, I'll name two stocks. You tell me as a motorsport investor which one you'd put your money in if they'll both currently paying two dollars on the stock market and you're gonna sell them this time next year. speaker-1: All right. So this time next year. we're selling at the end of June next year. Correct. speaker-0: Gotcha. All right. Right. So right now Will Power and Scott Dixon are both paying two dollars. Who are you investing in? speaker-1: mean, IndyCar isn't my real sort of strong knowledge subject, but I'm go with Scott Dixon. I think if this McLaren move comes off a bit of late career rejuvenation from a new environment. So yeah, I'm gonna go with Scottie Dixon. speaker-0: I'm all in with you, I think. And that's nothing against Will. I just think this might be a little bit of a freshen up for Scotty and he might push again. So I'll take Scotty. ⁓ and that's not to say that willpower won't improve either. I just think Scotty's got a little bit more margin for improvement. Yeah. This one, the Perth Supercars Street Race or the Moto GP Adelaide Street Race, which one are you investing in if both are paying two dollars right now? speaker-1: Oh, if we're selling this time next year, I'll go with Adelaide because we'll sort of be in the peak of the buildup. And I think it'll just, it'll just be worth a little bit more. be a bit more on people's, on people's minds. speaker-0: What about if it was in two years' time? speaker-1: Well, yeah, if we were doing a lot, let's say it was a five year investment, then I'm going to have a street race all in. Yeah. Yeah. Cause I could see the MotoGP thing sort of, you know, I do think the supercars race will reestablish itself in Adelaide as the number one. speaker-0: Concerned about the concerned about the coroner's inquiries for the Moto GP race after a few years. speaker-1: could be that as well but apparently everyone's very happy with the proposed track that was actually getting shopped around to the supercars guys for their take on how it would work as a supercars track in Darwin which was the news that we broke but um... speaker-0: What is that to suggest that they are only gonna have one configuration or are they still open to having the original and then speaker-1: So the layout will be the same for both. The, the way, well, so yeah, so there are different configurations of the same track. The layout will be the same. The corners go in the same direction in the same place, but the walls will be brought in. All the gravel traps will be removed. The walls will be brought in and the curbs will be, ⁓ dropped in for the supercars race, which is good because they're the things that make supercars on a street circuit spectacular. speaker-0: Okay. speaker-1: And they're also the things that will lead to multiple deaths on a motorbike. that's, you know, using the same, using the same circuit layout and apparently the feedback from drivers was good. Apparently there is still, cause you know, we're going to lose turn eight, but there is a, there's a sort of suitable replacement, so to speak, in terms of a pretty high risk sort of corner. yeah, it's, there was a lot of ⁓ optimism that came out of the meetings between. ⁓ Mark Warren and Leon Kirkpatrick from the SA Motorsport Board and the Supercars Drivers and Team Bosses in Darwin. And Team Bosses, you can imagine, when they hear Turn 8s going, just go, oh, thank God. That's great. But for drivers, they go, oh, that's a bit of a shame. So anyway, we'll see how it comes out. speaker-0: Yeah. All right. Matt Payne and Kai Allen at two dollars each right now. speaker-1: That is a really, really tough one. Yep. That is a really tough one. Here's what I'm thinking. I actually really fancy Matt to win the championship this year. Right. ⁓ I'll go with him because I'd be selling him as the defending champion next year. speaker-0: Yeah, okay. Okay. Don't mind that. Yeah, that actually changes my perspective because Kai is probably a longer term speculation, so speaker-1: But they're both so young. There's really just nothing between them. There's just not much between them. They're both just spectacular race car drivers. speaker-0: Yep. I'm gonna go Kai 'cause I think they might put all their eggs into the Kai Allen basket by this time next year. speaker-1: We'll actually make notes on this and we revisit it, we? speaker-0: Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's no good. I think we're both broke of officially from last year, so speaker-1: But we should do that. We should revisit it next year. speaker-0: It's like ⁓ this is like getting into Bitcoin real early. Kimmy Antonelli or Oscar Piastri? speaker-1: I'm going to go with the exact same philosophy as with the Kai and Matt Payne one. Cause I do think he will probably be the defending champion next year or the reigning champion. speaker-0: Ending champion. I think ⁓ the sky's the limit on this kid, so I'm gonna go Kimmy. ⁓ yeah, every time. This one's interesting. Pe Peko Bagnaya or Pedro Acosta. Now Peko's going from Ducati to Aprilia, Pedro is going from KTM to Ducati. speaker-1: Hmm, you should smoke me on this because you know more about that sort of form of these MotoGP guys than I do. Is it new regs next year? The new engine regs? speaker-0: Yes. Yeah. So I think they all have to be V fours. speaker-1: I'm going to... sort of, I don't know. I feel like the really, the big names when it comes to new regs are often worth backing. So I'll go with Ducati to do it right and therefore Acosta. speaker-0: Yona Costa. Th see the problem there is his teammate's gonna be Mark Marquez. speaker-1: Nah, it's a decent point that I had fully thought of. But, I feel like this... speaker-0: There's a reason why his brother's never beat his team. Well he has, I suppose, that's wrong, but ⁓ I'll speaker-1: If the Ducatis are riding down the road together then even if he's coming second. speaker-0: Well at the moment a pruya's riding off into the distance. So I'm gonna go Pecco because he's been complaining that everything's been set towards Mark. So we're about to find out one way or another with him. So ⁓ I'll put my money in there, but Pedro will be a good watch nonetheless. What about this one? Lewis Hamilton or George Russell? speaker-1: Always Lewis. I think even you could take like actual form out of it and Lewis just as a he's just he's just worth more like he's Lewis Hamilton So yeah, and I also think that this you know, George doesn't win this championship, it is going to be damaging to him ⁓ Not just the perception of him, but I think even It's going to be a tough thing for him to recover from. And I know we've talked about this before. To me, it's the complete opposite of the Oscar piastry situation. I don't see any real shame in Oscar not winning the championship last year because he was up against a much more experienced teammate who rightfully probably should have beaten him to the championship and did so. ⁓ but this is the complete opposite. So I think that it is something that will be tough for George to deal with if it does play out that way. speaker-0: Yeah, I'm going Lewis just because of Kim, so that'll do me. speaker-1: Yeah. The billion already so we're on the right path. speaker-0: jeez, it'd be like getting with Gina Reinhardt wouldn't it? speaker-1: No, not at all, but nothing close. speaker-0: The money thing I'm talking about, yeah, pervert. Liam Lawson or Carlos Sainz. speaker-1: ⁓ I think, I don't know why Kim Kardashian and Gina Rinehart were two of the options in this. ⁓ This is a good one. This is also a good one. I guess there's that question mark over Liam's future. So I'll go with Carlos Science. It feels like the safer bet, but it definitely could go either way if Liam keeps doing what he's doing and Williams keeps doing what they're doing, which is not much. speaker-0: I get a little whisper, or I heard a little whisper and like this is from a very unreliable source, so don't do not bank this one. I heard Liam is on Williams' horizons, so Yeah. I can go Liam. Definitely Liam. Yeah, Liam. ⁓ the geez. ⁓ I put this one in begrudgingly and now I feel bad, but Aston Formula One, Aston Martin Formula One, or Erebus Supercars? speaker-1: I don't know why feel bad. This is an absolute beauty. Like this is, this is tough, but it's great. ⁓ all right. So there is always. speaker-0: Yeah. But you know why I feel bad? 'Cause Aston Martin's a bit of a meme, that's why. And I don't want people to think I'm taking the piss out of Erebus 'cause I'm not. But similar situations. speaker-1: But it's that Erebus has had a tough start. We can talk through. Yeah. So there was always a potential that Honda and Aston get their act together for next season and they become semi-competitive. But I just lack faith in that for whatever reason. And also like what's Fernando going to do at the end of the year? You know, if he decides he doesn't come, you bother with this anymore. Like, can they really attract a top driver to replace him based on their form this year? Like I said before, unless someone like Max just goes, like just has so much faith in his ability. And he just goes, yeah, I'll go in there and fix everything. Like, I just don't see who they kind of get. So they end up with another midfield driver and then they're just not really making any progress. So Erebus on the other hand, like tough start to the season, but they've seemingly joined hands with the rest of the chef teams in terms of like some sharing some data and that sort of stuff, which I think has a, has a real potential to help. them with the fact they've got a second year driver and a rookie driver and I do think it was probably a bit of a misstep from the team to not jump on that train at the very start but you know that's fine that happens. They've now obviously realised that there could be some real benefit to it which is great and you also just can't completely disregard the chance that Erebus rocks up at Bathurst this year and the cars are speaker-0: Mate they were as smoky as chance last year with an hour to go. speaker-1: Yeah. And some of these guys end up on the, on the podium. And then we get into races that Joe Stewart's done before. I have more faith in Erebus than Aston Martin. So I'm going to take Erebus. speaker-0: Its brilliant. Yeah, I'm gonna say the same to be honest, because I think Aston Martin are in a massive hole. I think Honda stays, it's it's a lose. If Honda s leaves, it's a lose. I I just don't see where the positives are coming from for a little while. They've got a s a driver that's unmotivated. You could almost argue there's two drivers that are pretty unmotivated. So I I yeah, they're they're Erebus are already in front there just on the motivation of their drivers. speaker-1: I if I could, I can more easily picture Aerobus being a consistent midfield team this time in 12 months than Aston Martin. speaker-0: ⁓ yeah. Yeah yeah yeah. Alright, final one. Trans ⁓ and TA two, I never know which way to split this, or Super2. speaker-1: It's another really tough one. think Trans Am will kind of just carry on doing what it's doing and what it's been doing. And it's a good category. It's probably lost a little bit of ground in terms of affordability through a few factors, including, obviously, that's the downside of being more supercar-centric with your calendar and that sort of stuff. ⁓ But I think Trans Am will sort of hold firm at what it's doing into the future. Super 2 will be really interesting this time of the year because we'll be in the final year of using the Gen 2 hardware and I really have absolutely no idea how that is going to play out basically. So whether that's going to be a good thing for it or a bad thing for it or I really don't know. So, um, I went the, what was it that I went the safe option? I went the safe option on, uh, on Science and Lawson. So I'll take the risk. I'll roll the dice on Super 2 for this one. speaker-0: I'm going as a l as a Dide in the Wolf fan, Trans Am and T A two for me, I think. Heading in the right direction. Love watching ⁓ Every time they hit the track it's worth a watch and looking forward to seeing them around Sydney Motorswalk Park in ⁓ not too long from now. All right, we'll go to a break and we'll come back with rear of grid. Crap. speaker-1: And into the noise speaker-0: Winter could spell bad news for your vehicle's battery. Here are three maintenance tips from the battery gurus at RNJ Batteries. 1. Avoid frequent short trips to keep your battery at a healthy state of charge. 2. Keep the battery terminals clean and corrosion free. 3. Avoid running your accessories with the engine off for too long. If your battery is three years or older, it might be time to get it tested for free at your local RJ Batteries. RJ Batteries Power like nothing else. back to rear of grid. As you said, the only busier place than the markets on the weekend was ⁓ the Discord. I mean it it was ⁓ my god. And the other thing too was because there were so many things happening at once, I was I had three windows open because people were talking about one thing I'm thinking, wait, what's that about? I don't know. So really good place to go if you want to chat motorsport with like minded people and the odd lunatic. speaker-1: Yeah, it was popping. It's just a value add to those nights on the couch watching F1 and MotoGP and that sort of stuff. And obviously I don't get to get as involved in kind of the race commentary on Supercars weekend because there's, you know, there's other stuff going on. But for that sort of stuff, I just love being able to sit there and just chat with people who are watching along. Like it's just, it's just a real value add to the general experience of watching those races. speaker-0: Tighten great. Yeah, great. If you want to join FCTN dot com, follow the links. If you don't find the Discord link, do what everyone else has been doing. Just message me. I've got about seven thousand messages in the last few weeks where I've just been directing people into the Discord, so do that. One more law one more thing about the membership. Well it's a open to everyone, but members will get first shot. All I'll say is keep Wednesday at Bathurst free, especially Wednesday evening. So we'll talk about that. Further down the track, you'll probably figure it out from there. But Wednesday evening, keep that free. Members will be first to know about what's going on. Rhino, we're gonna do shredded or credits. I'll make a statement. You just tell me whether you agree or disagree. We'll come back after we've done all six. Number one, the new Suzuki Jimney Rhino will start at around fifty thousand dollars. If you think that's a good buy, you don't understand money. Credit. Number two. speaker-1: credit. speaker-0: Charles Leclerc is under more pressure than any other driver on the F one grid right now. speaker-1: Reddit. speaker-0: Yes, credit. Number three, it makes little sense to spend the bank on a driver who has every chance and wants to head to NASCAR if you're a supercar team. Yeah, credit. Number four, supercars should explore the NASCAR in season challenge. speaker-1: Ooh, shred it. speaker-0: Nah, credit. Number five, Mark Scafe was a points victor in his stouch with team Aene and Adrian Burgess on Motorsport one hundred eighty. speaker-1: Nah, I shred it. speaker-0: geez, the first time ever. I don't think I could vote 'cause I never watched a second of it. Number six. Cameron Waters has turned a corner inform and will be a threat at most races for the rest of the year. speaker-1: Ooh, that's a real roll of the dice. I'll be optimistic and say credit. speaker-0: I say credit too, yeah. ⁓ the gymney rhino at fifty K. Well we in a time when China's bringing stuff over that is just value for money, that is some sort of Suzuki sp speaker-1: It's a Jimny XL with a rhino like paint like sticking on the... speaker-0: Yeah, I don't even get it. speaker-1: It's ⁓ steven and I had a standard Jimny as a high car in Darwin last year and it's a fun concept But it's not amazing to drive. I don't know if the long wheelbase is any better but the the short wheelbase one I wouldn't be forking out 50k for one of those things. Yeah You know, I know you don't buy much car for less than 50k these days, but I still reckon I haven't driven many of the Chinese cars But I can't imagine many of them would be that would be worse on a highway than that thing It was a fun day. was cool to be cruising around Darwin. It was great for our little trip out to Beery Springs. speaker-0: You would look like a delightful couple. And good onions for Hashtag vote, yes. ⁓ Charlotte Clare is under more pressure than any other driver. I think George Russell might have him covered. speaker-1: It's exactly what I was thinking when you said that I think that it's George. It's I don't she thinks Charles under pressure at all to be Yes, no not not not pressure like job pressure or anything like that. Like I think he's pretty well protected there ⁓ But yes George, you know and at the end of they also let's not forget that when Charles gets beaten by his teammate It's Lewis Hamilton and I know we've had to recalibrate our brains a little bit after a couple of lean years for Lewis, but it's Lewis Hamilton Right. getting beaten by Lewis Hamilton is different to getting beaten by a second year driver that you should by any metric be having no problems with. speaker-0: I don't know. I I feel like I know it's Lewis and I know all the stats and fantastic. But he's essentially a forty odd year old bloke who this like Charles on his day is rapid. There's no doubt about it, especially in qualifying. But the mistakes are always there. I think he has a weak underbelly and I don't think that any time he is beaten by Lewis, and the numbers this year have been all Lewis. I don't think any time he's been beaten by Lewis It's a great look at all. So I don't think it's he's not in danger of losing his job. I'm not saying that. What I'm saying is I think he's under pressure because it's a bad look. speaker-1: Yeah, I still have a question mark over where the Shale is an absolute out now, A grade multiple world championship level driver. I do. I don't know that I've seen that yet, but I think Ferrari does think that. And I think they also rate Lewis really highly. So again, I don't think they look at it and go, like I think even at Mercedes, the Antonelli beating Russell, if he does beat him to the title this year, that will surely. speaker-0: Yeah. speaker-1: You know, know they committed to George for next year and stuff, but surely you go, yeah, okay. That's pretty interesting in the same way that I think that McLaren would have with Lando last year going, all right, well, you know, probably should have put all that additional experience to use and beating this guy. ⁓ so yeah, that's, that's where the pressure in Formula One lies right now, in my opinion. speaker-0: The signing a supercar's driver who has made it no secret that he wants to head to NASCAR and probably has great chance to be there is senseless. speaker-1: ⁓ yeah, look, I agree with it fundamentally. it's then the whole overseas things, the part of the GM and Matt pain plan that doesn't make heaps of sense to me from the GM side in terms of like, need a great race car driver, but they need him driving supercars in my opinion. So yeah, like it's, we still are yet to see exactly how it all shakes out. at what is on offer and what the plan really is and how realistic the overseas offers come into fruition are. But yeah, it's the bit that to take on a driver and have him for a year or two and then he goes overseas just leaves GM back in the exact position they're in. speaker-0: Yeah. Exactly, right. Yeah. The in season challenge, do you want to explain what it is, the NASCAR in season challenge? speaker-1: I don't know exactly but it's a couple of races where they like race for a million bucks or something over a couple of races speaker-0: My understanding is is that basically they seed the drivers from one to thirty two and then after ⁓ w at one particular race, thirty two versus number one, whoever finishes first or s in front of the other one goes through to the next round. speaker-1: ⁓ yeah, like a bracket sort of thing. Yeah. speaker-0: Yeah. I I like it. And it's a million bucks in the end. I mean, I don't know whether we've scrape together a million dollars for this thing to happen, but geez, I think it's interesting. speaker-1: It is. don't, yeah, like I said, obviously I've just revealed that I don't know too much about it, but, I don't hate the idea. I just feel like we've already got the sprint cup finals, the Darwin triple crown, the Jason Richards trophy, the Larry Perkins trophy, the per top pit stop challenge, the boost mobile pole award. Like, I think we'd need to tighten up a few things to be able to do it. And we've sort of just now we've split. speaker-0: What's going on? speaker-1: Because remember, like, we're slightly different to NASCAR in terms of we have ⁓ three parts of the season. Like, we've already got a fair bit going on inside that season. So that's my only thinking on speaker-0: Yeah. Plus, I don't know if we've got enough rounds to break down twenty four drivers. Yeah. Exactly. Only just get ⁓ in. ⁓ Mark Scaper was a points victor in the stage. I I don't know. I don't know. speaker-1: But you didn't say it. speaker-0: No. I haven't watched speaker-1: What a What a bizarre- This is- This is a bad- speaker-0: This is a don't take this as a reflection on I have not watched a minute of that show. Mm-hmm. I've got my own reasons and it's to do with personalities on that show. I just not gonna not gonna give ⁓ a time of the time of day. So no, I haven't watched that show. speaker-1: I did watch it and I watched Adrian on there and he held his own really well. speaker-0: Yep, which he's we you'd expect that he's no dummy. speaker-1: He did better than did better than hold his own to be purely honest in explaining exactly where that team's at. He's, he's a little less emotional than Charlie is. know, Charlie does have that habit of going on the massive victory lap when they win a race and you know, like Mark Scaves kind of, well, you know, ⁓ yeah. And, know, so, so for Mark Scaves kind of response to that being like, well, hang on a second. This is one race win. Like the it's maybe a little too early for the big victory lap. was very valid, but I liked that. I kind of liked that about Charlie as well. Like that's just how he is. And he gets emotional and the TARD not to, you know, like you don't want him to be sitting there saying, all right, well, I better not be excited about this. He's just excited. Like he won the race. ⁓ but Adrian is, is sort of more measured on that front was more on the side of, we understand fully understand that there's so much more to do here, but you know, this is just another sign that we're heading in the right direction. So he made a very, very good account of himself on that show. speaker-0: I'm not sure I want to be part of any team that doesn't celebrate their victories no matter how few and far they are between. I mean that is an excuse for a drink if ever I've heard one. ⁓ Cam Waters has turned the corner and is a threat. I actually think that's could be the case. I think the the new car and like just getting that monkey off his back, I reckon we might see something different this year. speaker-1: Yeah, you just never know with Tickford, which is why I said it's a bit of a rave of dice, but... speaker-0: I didn't think of that. I didn't think that's true. speaker-1: Darlin was definitely very encouraging. So, ⁓ yeah, I wouldn't be surprised. Like I think, and I think we spoke about it last week. You just put him back on the list of people that could very realistically win the championship this year now based on that. speaker-0: ⁓ Whisper of the Week already said it. Liam Lawson Williams question mark. Just leave it at that. ⁓ like I said, I wouldn't put my bank on it. ⁓ our letter of the week comes from Isaac Edwards from the Discord. And he says I think it's a good question. With Speed Series confirming ⁓ confirmed for running the fifth event at Mount Panorama, I would think the only way to make the event work is for the GT World Challenge Australia to be an endurance event. History suggests that sprint events at the mountain have proven to be unsuccessful, and I'm concerned it will go down that path as well. speaker-1: I guess so. guess that sprint events, you know, when you talk about unsuccessful sprint events at Mount Panorama, you're probably talking more on the supercar side of things. And the reason that they're unsuccessful is because they're not the Bathurst 1000. Yep. Like anything, they could be anything, but they're not the Bathurst 1000. Yep. And if you're not the Bathurst 1000, then you're not the best race at Bathurst, right? So that's kind of, and I guess there is, there is the kind of risk of this being a little bit the same. with the Bathurst 12 hour. So you know, you're going to go there for a GT round at Bathurst, but it's not the Bathurst 12 hour. So it's going to feel like it's fallen flat. But I don't think it's about the format. Cause even if you look at the supercars thing, if you did two supercars rounds at Bathurst each year, one was the Bathurst 1000 and one was the Mount Panorama 1000 and they were both 1000 K races. That would be even worse than doing the sprint races. So like, I think it's the same case here. If you went and did another GT3 Enduro, then yeah, I just think it's just too much similar racing at Bathurst speaker-0: Yeah, to differentiate itself from or set itself apart from the rest. I get that. And that's a good call. But I still think if you if I was going to have this second meeting for the GTs, I'd have it purely as a GT four race. There's enough GT fours in the country that we could have a a ten hour race for for a for want of a better way of looking at it. And if we did get some overseas, which may be unlikely in the G T four world, I'm not exactly sure, but If we did get some overseas, then even better. But there's enough cars around the country where a G T four race could work. And it does set itself aside from that GT three thing where, like you said, mate, we're gonna be having a race in October and then a few ye a few months later it's gonna be the big race that Yeah. I don't know. And at the moment, GT three, they haven't been pulling stellar fields, let's be honest. So I don't I don't know. So all right. I think we've solved some issues today. Whew.
