- 0:28Good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30Today, I want to talk to you about triggers and it's kind of
- 0:33an offshoot of yesterday's podcast where we were talking
- 0:37about words and what they mean to us, triggers are a very
- 0:42important part of personal development self-development
- 0:46because they're like little landmines.
- 0:49They just think of them like little land mines that are all
- 0:51over us and we carry these wherever we go.
- 0:56And it's almost like we look for reasons to be offended and then
- 0:59something pops off and before. You know what?
- 1:01You're, you know, responding in a way that you didn't even
- 1:04realize it was going to happen and it just fired off little
- 1:09landmines, if you will, and they were, we refer to them as
- 1:13triggers. I love, you know, dr.
- 1:15Wayne Dyer, and I've mentioned this before on another podcast,
- 1:18where one of my favorite phrases that he ever used was it's not
- 1:22their fault for pushing your buttons.
- 1:24It's your fault for having the buttons, they push.
- 1:26And the first time I heard that I was so pissed off because it's
- 1:30so True. And I had Bunches of triggers.
- 1:32I had a full-blown panel with red and yellow flashing lights
- 1:36at that time in my life. And I was always looking to
- 1:40blame someone else for the fact that those lights were being lit
- 1:43up. And I was having triggers
- 1:44pushed, and the truth is, it was my fault for having all the
- 1:48buttons If I'm not offended oil, if you will, if I cannot be
- 1:54offended, then nobody has control over me.
- 1:58And this is what the weird thing is about triggers.
- 2:01You are allowing yourself to be controlled.
- 2:04When you have triggers, you are allowing yourself to be
- 2:06controlled by somebody else. Gandhi said, I refuse to allow
- 2:11others to walk through my mind with their dirty feet, what he
- 2:15meant by that was you come into contact with someone who gives
- 2:20you feedback or gives you information that's contrary to
- 2:24your liking or your information and all of a sudden worlds,
- 2:30kailash, and you become Offended or upset, angry saddened,
- 2:35whatever. The word might be whatever the
- 2:36emotion might be, and that person has just walked through
- 2:40your mind with their dirty feet. You know, we've all been in the
- 2:44situation where we've gotten into an argument with somebody
- 2:47or we've had a disagreement with somebody and we walk away from
- 2:52that and it ruminates with us for days and days and days.
- 2:56And we think about I should have said this.
- 2:58I should have said this, I could have done this blah blah blah
- 3:01blah blah. And Go into such a state of
- 3:05despair over it often because we wish we could undo the situation
- 3:09and go back and fix it, and sound better, and say something
- 3:12better or not allow our face to get red.
- 3:14Because so many of us when we get upset, our face will get
- 3:17red, and our voice will crack. Because the emotion is so built
- 3:21up. Well, those are all triggers
- 3:24that have been stepped on. And then the worst part is, once
- 3:27those triggers go off, they keep going off for days on end.
- 3:31So the Person who basically through that hand grenade at
- 3:34you, and blew you up walked away and they're not even thinking
- 3:39about you anymore. And yet here you are walking
- 3:41around, pushing your own buttons, having all your
- 3:43triggers go off again and they're not even thinking about
- 3:47you, but you've suffered days days, you have suffered because
- 3:51your triggers went off, and they were able to keep just worming
- 3:56their way through your mind. Really, that's what it comes
- 3:59down to pushing your buttons. Wormholes throughout your brain.
- 4:03And the sad part is, we have absolute control over this and
- 4:08we can choose to turn that off, but we have to be conscious of
- 4:12it to do it. We must be conscious of it to
- 4:15fix it and we have to make the choice to say, I no longer allow
- 4:19this person to have the right to come into my brain and do damage
- 4:23because that's what they're doing.
- 4:25They're doing damage and only because you allowed them on one.
- 4:29If you've read the my butt, Bus book.
- 4:32You know that particular book who's driving your bus, I talked
- 4:37about the fact that you can change the drivers but I joke
- 4:40around when I ever go out and speak about it, I'll say, well
- 4:42here's the story, you know, don't put let someone come on
- 4:46the bus, just don't you can pull the bus up to the curb but don't
- 4:49let someone get on your bus just like Gandhi.
- 4:51Don't let them walk through your mind with their dirty feet.
- 4:54Just don't let them on your bus. I'll choose to let them speak,
- 4:58whatever they want. Say whatever they want.
- 5:00But you don't have to have the Action.
- 5:01That's long-term, you don't have to have that piece of yourself,
- 5:06given up to them. And sometimes we feel like we
- 5:09have to fight back. We say, I have to defend myself.
- 5:12Well, do we really? Because these people hold no
- 5:16ability over you, these people, hold no ability over you other
- 5:21than the one you give them. So you really have to consider
- 5:25the fact that there are options to walk away from it.
- 5:29They might not be options. You want to take, they might not
- 5:31be options that you want to entertain but you do have
- 5:36options. Most of us that are hearing this
- 5:39have options and we get to make the decisions about what things
- 5:44mean to us. That is the power of Free Will.
- 5:46That's what we've been given by God and this universe we have we
- 5:50have the power of free. We will.
- 5:53So I'm going to challenge you today to start thinking about
- 5:57this piece and looking at your triggers and starting the
- 6:01process of eliminating them is by exposing them and
- 6:04understanding when they go off so that you can stop them from
- 6:07going off. So if you have to make a list of
- 6:09them what are the things that irritate you?
- 6:11What are the things that are your buttons?
- 6:13However, you like to do it, start the process of identifying
- 6:16those triggers and then make better choices in the moment
- 6:20because that's how you break it down moment-to-moment choices.
- 6:23I look forward to seeing you guys tomorrow.
- 6:25Have a great day. Bye.
