- Jaba: Hello everybody and welcome back to the Scout and the Speculator podcast. This is Will Jarvis, also known as Jabba Cards, joined by my co-host, Jeremy Brown of Perfect Game Baseball, more importantly known as JGB underscore cards underscore. And more importantly than that, known as the King of Nido. We we are Jheremy: That's right, baby. The neat o king. Not the Pokemon guy. Jaba: We are back. In the virtual studio, very excited. It's been too long. It's been a few days. We don't like that. And we are recording a whole bunch today. We're looking forward to it. And we're gonna start with our layup lines here, doing a brief AFL recap from yesterday. Only one game, and it was rain shortened, it was only seven innings. However, there was a lot of good relevant Bowman action packed in there, so we figured it was still worth doing. And because we enjoy Jheremy: Yeah. Jaba: it. Jeremy, I'll let you kick it off. Instead of splitting the games, we are literally splitting the teams from a seven inning game so we can both hear ourselves talk. So Jeremy, tell us about what the Scorpions did in their victory. Jheremy: I mean the Scorpions have the best player in all of the AFL. It's Nathan Flewelling. He has a 458 average and 980 OPS. Had two more hits, two RBIs. He did punch once. But guess what? We don't care. He continues to just hit the baseball on the barrel consistently. I I've said it how many times? He's still nineteen years old. Bryce Rayner went one for three, had a punchy, had an RBI. that one hit was a double, bringing that average up to 231. Slow start, made an made a mechanical adjustment early on this year, saw the power come in the back half. Got promoted early. kind of got him out of, I believe, Lakeland. So like just get him out, get him moving. Zire Hope went yard, had a pair of strikeouts just shy of a 300 average, 873 OPS. So we do like to see that the power is coming up for the newly minted Tiger. Dakota Jordan continues to kind of struggle. 0 for 3. no, 1 for 3. Two other ABs, though, were a were both strikeouts. Berlin Payne had a hit. A lot of Bowman here. Eric Batonti down to an 048 average. 0 for 3. Had a punch out. The Zaire Hope home run was a 101 exit VLO at a 38-degree launch. I never realized they had all this on the side of the thing. So like over on the side, the box scores. Jaba: Yeah, I I was just looking at that. Yeah, Harlan, Jheremy: Never seen that before. Jaba: I guess I'm gonna get into Harlan in a bit, but Jheremy: Yeah. Jaba: he he hit a single at one nine er I'm sorry, he did not hit it that hard. It was Braylon Payne, it was two of your guys. Jheremy: Yeah. Jaba: Payne's single was hit at a hundred and nine, Raynor's double was at one nine as well, so a couple of very hard hit balls from those two. Jheremy: I don't even see that on here. So look at that teamwork. and with that, I mean there's a lot of Bowman names. Not a whole lot happened. It was only a seven inning game. But within that, the Scorps did score six runs on seven hits. fluelling definitely the star there. Miguel Mendez got the start. Our buddy John told me he was up to ninety eight point eight, I wanna say, on the bump. it he really is like Dr. Jekyll and Hyde. Where he went two and two thirds this time, which is fine. Two walks, two hits, one earned. Also struck out four. One of that one of the two hits was a home run. Like whatever it is, what it is. The stuff's electric. If he can keep it in the zone, if he can get it over the white thing we called the the plate, I think he's gonna be a guy where you go from seeing his base autos being a couple bucks to slowly creeping up. I don't think he's ever gonna be a big time jump up, but Jaba: For sure. Jheremy: He's a he's a giant now, so we'll see. Jaba: Yeah, I mean you really have to give up hard contact to allow homers in that ballpark in San Francisco. So that Jheremy: Right. Jaba: could play to his strengths. but yeah, on the other side of things, and it's worth noting that Homer that Mendez gave up, it was to Chuck Davilon. yes he's been struggling, Jheremy: Keep boys. Jaba: but that's one of the better names in the Desert Dogs lineup. It's not like he's giving it up to some random guy. The entire lineup's quite good. They haven't been hitting like it. But yeah, two and two thirds with one earned is pretty good against that lineup because, you know, looking at it the top six of that lineup is all serious Bowman names. but getting into the hitters for the desert dogs, it's crazy. I mean, I say it every episode, but they're now one in seven, which is remarkable. Obviously you don't wanna just go off Hey, they have this many Bowman guys, but at the same time, they're all highly talented guys. I mean, Kintero Jheremy: Right. Jaba: and Davalon have been struggling six sixty-three and six sixty six OPS respectively. Chase Harlan, however, he started real slow and he's been nuclear lately. He's white hot, nine eighty four OPS now on the mini campaign. went two for three yesterday, pair of singles, one more strikeout, but that's that's That's okay. Mentioned Daballon had the Homer. He's only hitting 111, but nice to see him get into one, put a charge into one. Hopefully he can get hot now. Obviously, he was the MVP in high A. He was a little too old for high A. We've said this all. But again, you can only play where you're assigned. Little scary seeing him struggle in the AFL, but again, it's been eight games, so. Think we need to just be a bit more measured and patient there. But yeah, Eduardo Cantero, O for four with a K. Wyatt Sanford had another nice day. One for two with a walk and a K. He's hitting 318. So nice to see him putting balls in play. Caleb Bonimer, rare Ofer, O for two with a walk and a K. He's still playing out of his mind. Johnny Severino, one of my draft picks there. One for three with a double and a K. He's playing well. I mean Bonomer. Severino and Harlan all have OPS's over 920. Sanford's OPSing 878. So it's really the guys like Davil and Quintero and then the guys at the bottom of the lineup. I don't know if that's Easton Shelton. Okay. But Jheremy: That's Colby Shelton. I think. You know what? It would make it could be Easton actually. Or it could Colby's a white sock, I think. Yeah, so maybe it's not him. Jaba: So it really doesn't. We really can't do if he's a White Sock he'd be here too. But yeah, Jheremy: I bet you it's eastern shelf and coin. Well. Jaba: Isaiah Drake, for two. Owen Carey came in to pinch hit for him. Didn't get on base. Just kinda the secondary guys just really aren't doing much. I think if Eduardo Cantero can get hot, that would go a long way and hopefully this is the start of something for Chuck Dabble on. I do like him a lot, I have a lot of cards of his, so obviously I want to see him do well. And, you know, he just seems like the type that's such a good hitter where he'll bounce back and once he gets hot he'll hopefully stay hot. But Jheremy: Yeah. Jaba: that wraps this one up. You got any more thoughts or you good to Jheremy: It is it is Colby, Colby Shelton. Color only Jaba: Okay. Jheremy: guy. four people in the AFL now have two home runs tied for the league lead. Antonio Henderson, Vance Honeycutt, Ike Irish, and Chase Harlan. two players have double digits in hits. Nathan Floeling leading the way with eleven, Wellbin Francisca with ten, which I feel like we haven't talked about Wellbin a lot lately, but yet he's got Jaba: Yeah. Jheremy: ten hits. He's hitting five fifty six as a has an OPS of fifteen sixty three, which is I think by far and away the best. Actually Aidan Miller's Jaba: Yeah. Jheremy: fifteen thirty three, so he's not far behind. with Jaba: Yeah, I got into I got into him a bit yesterday in my solo adventure. I I don't Jheremy: Love that. Jaba: know if you saw, but he was the AFL hitter of the week for week one. So Jheremy: Yep, yep. Saw that. I mean yeah, I mean An Antonio Anderson go dust off those white boxes. Two home runs, a double, and seven hits on the year. Yeah, he does have eight strikeouts of five walks already. So he's like striking out fifty percent of the time and the other half it seems like the ball's going in play. So we do like that. He's got an on base percentage of five hundred and he struck out eight of his nineteen at bats. So quite literally almost half Jaba: Yeah, you gotta you gotta like the cheap cheap Red Sox names. I'm not just Jheremy: Right. Jaba: saying that 'cause we live in Boston or the Boston metro Jheremy: Yeah. Jaba: area. It's more just the fact that they sell really well. I'm not even a Red Sox fan. but I do find that buying Red Sox is often a profitable venture, for the most part. So just something something to keep in mind. Jheremy: Yeah. Just kind of looking through here. one player has double digit strikeouts. It's Dakota Jordan with ten. Jaba: Great. Jheremy: Jake Casey, Jake Cook, Ty Harvey, and Naomar Ochoa all have five stolen bases for the league lead. I mean, we're just sifting through. Vance Honeycutt still has eight walks to be the best. Jaba: Which is hilarious. Jheremy: Aiden Miller's got a seven hundred on base percentage over twelve at bats. So just some fun little Jaba: That worked. Jheremy: things to kinda go look through. Wellbens four doubles and Braylon Payne's two triples still our league leads. So yeah, nothing nothing anything good there, but I felt seven minutes was too short, so we had to ramble to at least get us to double digits, which we did, and now we're good. Jaba: All right. Well thank you for the filibuster and thank you all for listening. And we will have a lot more episodes out today. And we will talk to you then. Thanks everybody and see you soon. Bye. Jheremy: Where are you gonna see them?
